Battle Of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad is known as the turning point of World War II as it is notorious for being
the first crucial loss for the Third Reich. Certainly, Hitler created this two pronged attack to close
the front on the east and to essentially knock Russia out of the war, however the aggressive fighting
that came from the Russians caused the Germans to rethink their easy Blitzkrieg strategy and the
Russians launched the astonished Germans into hand to hand combat. And although the Germans
had been striking victories within Russiaafter breaking the German Soviet Nonaggression Pact, the
Germans had multiple imperfections that led to their fall at Stalingrad; for they came as
conquerors and not as liberators. This conflict is known as one of... Show more content on

Also, it would prevent a similar repeat of World War Iwhere the Germans were faced fighting a
two front war; fighting with Britain and France in the west and Russians in the east. Due to the
failure of Operation Barbarossa, Hitler had accidentally opened up the eastern front and
immediately needed to crush the Soviet to remove it and therefore secure victory. In fact, it
would be a great propaganda victory to capture the city that holds the name of the USSR
dictator, Stalin. In the end, Hitler s overall goals were to remove Soviet forces, secure the
economic assets, and move south of Moscow to overtake the remainder of the Caucasus and
Moscow. Meanwhile, Stalin, who also knew how necessary Stalingrad is in regards of
transportation and industry, prepared by creating the Stalingrad Front and passed Order No. 227,
where the only extenuating cause was death and troops were told, not one step backward, by Stalin
s command. The battle as Stalingrad would set the lines for the remainder of the war and both
dictators knew that as the German troops approached

Edward Gibbon s Declaration Of The Reign
Edward Gibbon s declaration of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being the most happy and
prosperous time in the history of the human race bases its claims on what could be viewed as
superficial aspects of the empire. When studying the Roman Empire, it s difficult to not admire the
stunning works, such as the House of Fawn in Herculaneum or Hadrian s Villa. The wealth needed
to create such places indicates the prosperity within the empire during this time. Gibbons claimed
understanding on happiness and prosperity seem to have less to do with the personal lives of the
human race and more with what physically surrounded the human race during this period of reign.
The claim by Gibbons seems to focus on the benevolent paternalism that... Show more content on

If you were a prisoner of war coming to see the Forum in attempts to assimilate into this most
happy and prosperous society, you were faced with images of your ancestors as captives. The
forum catered to a specific class of Roman citizens and did not act as a place where the average
Roman man or woman felt represented. In addition to the works of Trajan, Hadrian s Wall can also
superficially symbolize the happiness and prosperity of the Roman Empire as asserted by Gibbons.
The emperor Hadrian built Hadrian s Wall after returning from his visit to Britain. The
construction of the wall was an attempt by Hadrian to set up permanent borders for the Roman
Empire and show the strength that the Roman Empire had during the reign of Hadrian by doing
so. The construction of the wall, while showing strength and wealth, also can symbolize the
empires struggle with its borders, and even more so, citizenship. The wall itself symbolized the
Roman Empire s tensions with the peoples surrounding the empire. The wall showed how the
empire needed a structural device to maintain some level of peace within the empire. The idea of
the reign of the Five Good Emperors being a time of prosperity can also be understood when
looking at the changing roles of women within the empire. Women during this time period were
treated differently than the woman before them. While it s difficult to assert definitively whether or
not women were more respected during this

Pancakes Short Story
Pancakes The overall topic of the story is about perfectionism and how it affects a person. In the
story Pancakes by Joan Bauer, the protagonist in the story is Jill who is a perfectionist. Therefore
she tries to make the community exultant and make things flawless, consequently, in the story Jill
was unsuccessful at keeping things faultless at the restaurant. In the story Pancakes the overall
argument is no one is perfect and everyone needs assistance. The literary devicesrevealing the
theme is imagery, characterization, and simile. In the story Pancakes the theme is no one is
perfect, therefore everybody needs help occasionally. One of the literary devices that reveal the
theme is imagery. Imagery reveals that Jill had trouble keeping the restaurant organized. Jill is a
perfectionist who wants to make the public satisfied and love her. She got a job from O Ye

My Grandmother Paragraph
My grandmother name is Maria Jimenez and she is the mother of my father who was born on
January 10, 1948. My grandmother was born in Puebla, Mexico in a small farm with her mother
and father. She was raised on a farm and had farm life duties as a child. She attended elementary
school and culminated still completing with her farm duties such as feeding the animals, picking
up the crops, watering the plants every morning, watching over the animals, and many other
duties. My grandmother and her parents were less fortunate than others and had to work harder.
As a young girl, her parents always talked to her about being someone is life and that she should
go to school to seek a better life opportunity but as farmers her parents were not able to afford her
studies. They would sell their crops in the market of the town. Maria attended middle schooland
always got the highest grade in her class, she graduated with her classmates with good grades but
could not attend high school because her parents could not afford it. She worked for super
markets, a farm worker and maid. She later met my grandpa in the farm she was working in, the
farm was in Mexico, puebla. Maria parents were very religious, they were strict Catholics and
tried to teach their children the bible. My grandpa asked her to marry him at the age of 16 and he
was 17. My grandmother s parents agreed to the marriage because at those times people were

Drinking Water In Canada
In summation, it is apparent that First Nations communities in Canada are deprived of their basic
human right to clean water. Canada has failed to effectively address the issue as its policies tend to
disregard Aboriginal People s right to safe drinking water. A significant portion of the responsibility
falls on the Crown as it is the responsibility of the Canadian government to ensure that all its
citizens have equal opportunities and resources. The literature reviews examined in this paper
demonstrates that the problem of the water crisisin First Nations communities is rooted from the
systematic discrimination that transpired post colonialism. Consequently, this paper advanced that
there is a need to design and implement a new federal policy... Show more content on

Various scholars have supported this premise as they have concluded that as a nation, Canada,
needs to act on its belief without excluding the rights of its citizens. First Nations communities
should have quality water guaranteed and provided to them. Water should be considered as an
important right because it involves Aboriginal Peoples health and safety. A national federal water
law would help ensure that at the very minimum that water is a human right that needs to be
recognized, protected and readily available to everyone. At the very least, acknowledging water as a
human right would be the first steps to combating systemic discrimination. Subsequently, policy
entrepreneurs should seek to consult with First Nations to ensure that their voices will be heard
equally during the decision making process that involves the lives of Aboriginal peoples. This issue
is of significance because Aboriginal people should be treated as equal members of the Canadian
society. Thereby, recognizing and providing quality water to on reserve First Nations communities
will ultimately reinforce Canadian values, justice, and human

Social Culture Of The Pawnee Tribe
The Pawnee tribe is a Native American tribe that was originated from Nebraska and had very
unique cultural elements. The cultural elements I chose to go more indepth are Social
Organizations, Customs and Traditions, Language, and Religion of the Pawnee tribe. For the
Social Organizations I will discuss the social classes, and the political organization of the tribe. For
Customs and Traditions I will examine the rules of behavior, as well as the food they consumed.
For LanguageI will discuss the written and the unwritten language as well as the common
language with the other bands. Lastly I will talk about the Religion and go into more details on
their rituals, and their beliefs. I believe that the longevity of the tribe was directly related to the
way they lived. The social organization of the Pawneetribe consisted of the social class, and the
political organization. The Pawnee tribe was divided into four main bands the Chaui or the
Great Band , the Kitkahahki or the Republican , the Pirahauerat or the Tappage and the Skiri or
the Wolf Pawnee . These four bands made up the political organization. The Chaui are generally
recognized as being the leading band although each band was autonomous, that is until outside
pressures from the Europeans and neighboring tribes saw the Pawnee drawing closer together.
(Legends of America) The Pawnee s social classes were set up in a series of hierarchical divisions.
The highest class consisted of chiefs followed by warriors,

Harrison, and now we re back with part two! Check out eight more riveting details of the Beatles
lead guitarist s life that you definitely (probably) did not know below. You might be surprised by
what you learn!
Number Eight: He Played Violin...Sort Of. While recording All You Need Is Love
, Harrison can be
heard playing the violin. This was despite the fact that he had never picked one up in his entire life.
Number Seven: He Was Admired by Sinatra. Frank Sinatra once called Harrison s Something, ...the

anything because I was under the covers but after I d finished they all applauded and cheered. At
least they kept quiet whilst I was doing it.
Number Four: He Was Part of a Dirty Joke. In the song Girl, Harrison and Paul McCartney can be
heard harmonizing tit tit tit tit in the background. Apparently, this is part of a dirty joke that
involved them slipping in a dirty word without anyone noticing.
Number Three: He Ate Horse. On December 25, 1962, The Beatles had horse for Christmas dinner
in Hamburg, Germany. The horse was cooked into steaks, and they didn t know what they had eaten
until they had already eaten it.
Number Two: His Birth Is Highly Contested. Though many books state that Harrison was born on
February 25, 1943, he actually changed his mind later and insisted that he was born on 11:50 p.m.
on February 24. To this day, it is still unclear which day he was actually born on.

Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed
Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and
infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This
can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various
forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic
habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow
Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the
levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams
in the greater Toronto area.
Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity
indicate the health of Yellow Creek?
Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the
environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions
representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an
acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels
below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic
life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in
which they live.
BMIs (or Benthic Macroinvertebrates) are tiny animals

The Legal Definition Of A Duty Of Care And Negligence
The legal definition of a duty of care and negligence is very complex. It primary concerns itself with
relationship between the defendant and the claimant, it must be established that there is an
obligation upon the defendant to take proper care to avoid causing injury to the claimant in all
circumstances.
Determining negligence is not always easy. Before 1932 there was no generalised duty of care in
negligence. The tort did exist but it was only applied in particular situations where the courts had
decided that a duty should be owed, e.g., road accidents, bailments or dangerous goods. Third
parties who suffered as a result of a breach of contract had no remedy, because they were not a part
to the contract and thus excluded by the doctrine of privity, which means that only parties to
contracts should be able to sue to enforce their rights or claim damages.
The idea of a duty of care in the tort of negligence has been developed over the years through
judges making decisions in high profile cases. In a ground breaking case and milestone in
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562, an opportunity had arisen for Lord Atkin to formulate the
neighbour principle . By doing so It created the and laid down the foundations of modern law on
negligence, by setting out general principles whereby one person would owe a duty of care to
another person.
Facts:May Donoghue, a shop assistant, met a friend at the Well meadow cafe in Paisley, near
Glasgow. Upon arrival Ms Donoghue s friend

In 1988, Donald Trump has first considered running for President, but unfortunately he was in
debt so it would ve been hard to do so. In 2000, was the only other time he ran. Trump announced
his candidacy under the Reform Party, but only got about 15000 votes in California. 2004, He
considered a presidential bid in 2004, but ultimately decided not to due to his new show called The

also been criticized by his attacks on President Obama s birthplace/certificate. Finally, in July
2015, he formally announces would run for presidency as a Republican. He became the official

Reflective Piece: Project: Babylon, magnum
Challenges
One of the biggest problems I had when trying to write this, was to try and keep it completely
original, instead of trying to make it just another zombie apocalypse style story. By the end, it
seemed pretty much the exact same as much of the other kinds of stories. Another big problem
had been from when I would try to write down ideas before I forgot them and had wound up
causing quite a few spelling problems, which I wasn t able to fix. That was a smaller problem; I
always have a habit of trying to go back and fixing any kinds of spelling mistakes the moment that
I see them which made this a little tricky. I think the final problem would most likely have to be
the fact that there were times that I almost typed something in third person, like I was for a side
project (Unintentional pun.) and I wasn t able to fix this until I was finished writing the chapter,
then I would go back and fix it on the Beta copy.

What Is The Chinese Parenting Style In The Roar Of The...
Title
Every parent always wants what is best for their children. But what is the best way to go about
this? There are so many ways one can go and never know if you are right or are doing the right
thing. You might believe you are doing what is best for your child or children, but other parents
don t see that so it can be conflicting at times. In the essay, The Roar of the Tiger Mom Amy Chua
explains with great detail, the many differences between Chinese mothers and western parents have
in the upbringing of their children trying to prepare them for the real world. Amy Chua puts in her
own insight of Chinese mothers trying to justify the Chinese parenting style, however, many
western parents would defy Chinese parenting style .
Amy Chua formed a list of the things she would never allow her children to do. These things may
seem like the normal thing for some, but seem completely bizarre for others. Chua does not allow
her children to:
Attend a sleepover, have a playdate, be in a school play, complain about not being in a school
play, watch TV or play computer games, choose their own extracurricular activities, get any grade
less than an A, not to be number 1 student in every subject except gym and drama, play any
instrument other than the piano or violin, not play the piano or violin (Chua 305). These are just a
few of the many things that Amy Chua and Chinese mothers forbid their children from doing.

Crime Statistics In Rural Communities
Although many people seem to believe that rural communities and populations are without crime,
this is a misconception that effects the way in which policing takes place. Crime statistics in local
communities do not put emphasis on the happenings in rural communities. This leads to shortages
in specialty crime units that could be useful in ruralareas, though difficult to supply because of low
usage. The resources, such as funding, that could be allocated to rural areas is then provided to
other departments that benefit locals. This could lead to shortage of officers in rural communities,
which causes strain on officers from higher shift loads. For a local policeofficer, work slates can be
divided up as other staff can come and complete already... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of policing is reactive where police officers patrol communities looking for crimes that
have or are occurring. This style of policing allows for all suspects to be treated the same
regardless of criminogenic factors. This type of policing leads to higher arrests and can be used
as a deterrent due to high numbers of people talking about the police catching their crimes. This
type of policing is effective when focusing on tackling a specific crime that is causing great
numbers of harm to societies as seen with initiatives on gun violence, drinking and driving or drug
trafficking. This type of policing limits corruption, which can be seen in policing approaches where
close community interactions can lead to bias an unfair treatment. However, traditional policing is
not without drawbacks. This type of policing leaves no room for discretion leading to us viruses
them mentality from not only the general population but the officers as well. The police officers
will no longer see themselves as apart of the community but above the community they are apart
of. Reactive policing does not address issues of the community problems; it only creates a
temporary superficial solution to greater problems. Community policing works with the public to
police as well as prevent crimes, which is not seen in traditional policing. Although community
policing seems idea, there should be a policing approach that handles most crimes without bias as
well as works with the

Similarities And Differences In Flowers For Algernon
Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes is a piece of literature that asseverates that perhaps
intelligence is a seamless fundamental. Precisely, for 34 old Charlie Gordon who initially wants
to attain intelligence because he has been dimwitted throughout his whole entire life. Mr.Gordon
is given an opportunity to be chosen for an operation. Fortunately for Mr. Gordon he happens to
be the perfect candidate for the operation that will result to be semi successful. As for Charley a
1968 film that portrays a 34 year old who seeks to acquire intelligenceas well, since he has been

masterpieces have similarities as well as differences. Flowers For Algernonand Charley have the
same characters for the most part. Charlie/Charley is the main character of both works, with the
exception of a petty spelling differencethat in the film it is spelt as Charley rather than Charlie. Mr.
Gordon s occupation of Flowers For Algernon and Charley are quite disparate. For example, in
the condensed version of Flowers For Algernon Charlie works in a plastic manufacturing factory.
While in the 1968 film Charley works in a bakery. Both in the book and film Algernon portrays a
very witted and agile mouse. There is no differences of Algernon within the book or film. In

Tao expects him to gouge out his eyes upon meeting him but Mr Petrovic ...did a remarkable
thing. He patted me on the cheek (Bowles, 1997, p.127). This reveals to the reader that the text has
been very one sided and there is another side to the story.
I enjoyed Surfing Mr Petrovic very much. This is an important point in teaching English and
encouraging children to read for enjoyment. It is unlikely that a teacher can inspire or encourage
children to read if the teacher cannot display genuine enthusiasm for the text they are promoting
(Elements of an English Program: Sharing Texts, 2007).
Preceding the sharing of the text with students an explanation would occur as to why this particular
text was being introduced. It would be stated that the text will be read primarily for enjoyment but
also to use the opportunity to explore the themes, structure and features of different text genres. The
title, cover and blurb would be used to encourage students to make predictions about the text and
what it might be about (see appendix 1).
The approach to the reading of the novel would be varied. It is anticipated that the class study
would begin with a shared reading of the opening chapter to foster students interest. A prepared
reading by the teacher is usually much more involving than a hesitant reading around the class
activity (Sykes, n.d.). The aim is to motivate each student to read the

Financial Statements And The Audit Report

Investors and other financial statement users receive information regarding an auditor s work,
concerning a company s financial statements, through an audit report. In the United States, the audit
report has changed little since the 1940s (PCAOB 2013b). Currently it, identifies the financial
statements that were audited, the scope and nature of the audit, the general responsibilities of the
auditor and management, and presents the auditor s opinion as to whether the financial statements

The PCAOB proposed auditing standard, The Auditor s Report on an Audit of Financial Statements
When the Auditor Expresses an Unqualified Opinion, as a result of recent outreach projects
concerning the usefulness of the audit report (PCAOB 2013b). Through these projects, the PCAOB

Loving Story Essay
The Loving Story The journey that Richard and Mildred Loving took is important for history and
for the future of civil rights in the United States. I recently watched the documentary The Loving
Story and enjoyed the footage, pictures, and interviews of everyone involved in the Loving v.
Virginia case. The documentary addressed the issue of interracial marriagein Virginia in 1967. The
married partners, Richard and Mildred, were woken up in the middle of the night and were
criminally charged for being in the state of Virginia and being married. Richard was a white male,
Mildred was a African Americanand Native American, and that was the problem that they faced at
that point in history. During this time, it was illegal to be of... Show more content on

It got across to us that the two people involved with each other and married are just as normal as
any straight, white, and married couple. The problem people had, and probably still do have, is
that they do not see them as normal people. They are different because of their race, sexuality, class
status, etcetera . The human face and cost is lost in the their eyes. The photos at the end showed
how they were not different from a couple that was made up of two white or two black people.
They were courageous and inspiring people in history and that is what they will be remembered
for. Mildred and Richard Loving made it possible for people of two different races to get
married in their case that made it to the Supreme Court. My reflections after viewing this film,
moved towards thinking about our current situation of not allowing people of the LGBT
community get married. The opinions and bigotry that are still instilled in our society. For those
that say that we have moved past our prejudiced views as a society in the United States; I would
say that they are wrong. The Loving story was significant in so many ways towards moving our
world into a better place for all. The education and consciousness of accepting all people will be
key in future of struggle for equality in this country and around the

Gaius Julius Caesar And The Fall Of The Roman Empire
General, politician, and master of propaganda, Gaius Julius Caesar, better known as Julius
Caesar, is closely associated with the fall of the Roman Republic. A man of profound charisma
who was well known for his pivotal military campaigns, Caesar was also an author and a shrewd
developer of military propaganda . He also became known for expanding the roman republics
geographic borders and founding its imperial system. Caesar had battled in numerous wars and
took part in the Roman government. The start of his Dictatorship of the Roman Empire, would
ultimately be the cause the end of his life. He would later become a large part in the History of
Western Civilization. This essay will explore the life of Julius Caesar, his influence on the Roman
Republic, government, military, and social practices.
Around July 13, 100 BCE, Gaius Julius Caesar was born in Rome . His mother was named Aurelia
Cotta, who was a born noble. His father governed the province of Asia as a Praetor, he was also
named Gaius Julius Caesar.
When he was fifteen years of age, his father passed away, making him the, paterfamilias, leader
of his home . He decided that becoming part of the priesthood, would benefit his family. There,
he managed to be nominated as the High Priest of Jupiter. Not only did Caesar have to take part
in patrician stock, he had to marry a patrician woman. He then became engaged to a woman
named Cornelia. Cornelia was daughter of Lucius Cinna, high profile and powerful leader of the
Populares . This marriage provoked fury in the, self declared Dictator, Sulla. He began a
methodical elimination of foes and those who held to the Populare ideology. Cornelia s father
was Sulla s political opponent. Because of this, Sulla targeted Caesar. He commanded that
Caesar divorce his wife, or he would lose his property. Caesar refused and fled Rome, but his
sentence was lifted intercession of his mother s family. Regardless, Caesars position as Priest was
stripped and his wife s dowry was impounded.
With no means to take care of his family, Caesar enlisted in the military. During Caesar s time in
the military, he proved himself a good and effective solider. For saving someone s life, Caesar was

A Metamorphosis Of The Paperweight, By George Orwell
Motolani Osinowo BOX # 2758 25 October, 2017 PROF. HODGE COURSE AHS 1000# SEC
#06 Paper One Final A metamorphosis of the paperweight 1984, by George Orwell, is an
overwhelming novel that seeks to notify humanity about the dangers of authoritarian rule and
the aftermath of it all. In the novel, the paperweight is one of the greatest symbols because it is
futile and beauty exists in it. However it is a sign of rebellion, through its simple and yet
peculiar nature, in the eyes of The Party; it contradicts the idea that everything and everyone
must be useful. One can come to a consensus that the coral and the glass dome represent Winston
and the upper room or party, respectively. This is due to the fact that the glass and or room
encases the coral or in this case Winston, or so he thinks. One is also aware that the paperweight
reveals a part of the past, which sparks Winston s curiosity to what the hope for freedom really
meant in the past this is a form of rebellion as the idea of freedom from Oceana is forbidden by
the party. However, Orwell argues that the seemingly positive significance of the paperweight will
be at a state of compromise through the use of sense perception, the remembrance of the past, and
the destruction of the paperweight. Because the paperweight is a representation of Julia and
Winston in the secrecy of the room, it reveals an inaccurate psychological form of the truth. By
referring to terms such as light (Orwell, p.130) gazes (Orwell, p.130)

Long-Term Consequences Of Spanish Colonization
An event that opens and gives way to the beginning of the history of our American continent is the
exploration and colonization of Spain centuries ago. There were many generals and idealistic
Spaniards who explored the American regions taking with themselves many of our wealthiest
resources. The Exploration and colonization of the Spaniards did not only open the door but also
and accounted for the early stages of the North American continent. The Spanish began getting
involved with the different cultures that had already been living there. This would result in the
suffering of the continent.
The Spanish began to enslave and colonize the Native Americans and controlled many of the
cultural development that populated the continent. As a result, ... Show more content on

An example of this is the diseases to which the Spaniards exposed Native Americans during the
period of exploration, we have typhus and tuberculosis, diseases for which at that time the Native
Americans had no antibody too, so Native Americans were susceptible to infection, and thus they
died in large numbers. These diseases still exist nowadays and are affecting a very small percent of
the American population. Another is the fact that, many of the tribes that existed back then do not
exist now because the Spaniards destroyed them. As I highlighted a few of the negative
consequences, I should also mention some of the positive ones as well. Before the arrival of the
Spanish, the Indians did not know the use of gold and how rare it really was. The Native American
natives did not have any better weapons than arrows, bows, and weapons developed rustically.
When the Spanish took over America, they brought their weapons with them. Although Spaniards
introduced diseases, some of the missionaries brought medicine with them as a more positive
influence. Also, the Spanish were among the first to distinctively map areas of North and South
America and founded communities that became cities, some of which have lasted into modern
times. Three of the four oldest cities in the United States were founded by the Spanish Florida, New
Mexico, Santa Fe, St. Augustine, and San Antonio,

Use of Polarization in Goodbye, Mr. Chips Essay
Use of Polarization in Goodbye, Mr. Chips
Opposites attract. James Hilton uses this fact in Goodbye, Mr. Chips to create tension in the story;
however, he makes greater use of this polarization to develop the character of Chips. Mr. Chips

thesis in the form of young Chips and antithesis in the form of Katherine Bridges to arrive at
synthesis, the personality and character of the mature schoolmaster.
Hilton portrays young Chips as lacking in confidence. During an interview, Chips, a schoolteacher

At forty, Chips considers himself rooted, settled, and quite happy (11).
When Chips is forty eight, an age at which permanence of habits begins to be predictable, Hilton

summer vacation at Wasdale Head, Chips first sees Katherine waving excitedly from a rocky
ledge. He believes that she is stranded and in need of help. In his attempt to rescue her, Chips finds
himself rescued instead of the rescuer, and neither role is one for which he had much relish (20).
Katherine, who typifies the New Womanof the nineties that Chips abhors, feels responsible for
Chips s injury and visits him daily. At first Chips doesn t know what to do with Katherine: he isn

the OASIS, goes through many character changes such as bad decision making, arrogance, and
friends.
Wade went through many changes in the book due to being in the center of international attention.
The pressure from the world had effects on how Wade made his decisions. These decisions led to
arrogance and bad poor making, which resulted in the loss of loved ones and friends. In the OASIS
you can be anything you want to be but Wade doesn t care about that, he has dedicated his life in
hopes of finding Holidays fortune. When Wade was the first one to find the first out of three keys
it sent him into the international spotlight because he was the first one to find a key. Before
obtaining the key Wade had to play the game against this NPC monster. When Wade won, another
person showed up and was mad that Wade had gotten the key first. Wade explains to this person
about how he won, I used to play Joust all the time against a friend of mine. So I d already had a

Artemis mad. His arrogance has an effect on him in the future because he ends up becoming
friends with Artemis and she has to put up with his arrogance. Wade was not used to being in the
center of international attention, so he thought he could stand up for all of the avatars in the
OASIS and tell off one of the most evil corporations ever. IOI is a huge evil corporation that is run
in a video game called the OASIS. IOI s main focus is to cheat their way to the prize. Wade
decided it was best if he went and told IOI off but he soon realized he made a the worst decision

Transparent Pictures Kendall Walton Summary
In his chapter titled Transparent Pictures, Kendall Walton makes a claim, which most of us
would agree on. He states that photographs are more realistic and therefore better at representing
fact than paintings and drawings could hope to do. Walton also states that because of this
realism we can see the past through the photographs in our hands. I can agree with him on his
first claim but I have to disagree with him on his second claim. Photographs are realistic because
of the details they can capture. However, those details are only details and do not allow us to see
beyond what was captured in the image itself. If we could literally see into the physical object
called a photograph, we could then accept the maxim that photographs are by their nature more
powerful in their ability to tell the truth. This maxim though, needs careful consideration and must
include a discussion on the failings that photographs potentially contain.
For some time master artists have devoted time and effort to perfecting the elusive techniques
needed to create a realistic picture. Painters of the post Renaissance moved closer to realism by
several methods, one being perspective. To give a picture depth was difficult and required close
observation. Finding the horizon line and then relating it to the paint canvas creates a linear
perspective, as does proper sizing of objects in relation to each other. Making trees larger in the
foreground and smaller in the background gives a sense of space. Using

How Does Ruper Nunn Create Suspense In The Last Death Scene
Macbeth Scene Analysis
Which version of Macbeth s final death is the most suspenseful? Why?
A good director is able to keep the audience engaged in the play, while a great director is able to
make the audience feel like they are a part of the play. Since the play, Macbeth , can be interpreted
in numerous ways, how the director chooses to include suspense in the final death scene can show
insight into the director s perspective. In the versions produced by Trevor Nunn, Rupert Goold, and
Roman Polanski, each performed a unique variation of the same play, but only one proved to be the
most suspenseful through the use of sound, lighting, and props.
The use of music and sound can emphasize important parts to make the scene more suspenseful
for the audience. In Trevor Nunn s version, he used an organ as background sound. In particular,
when Ian McKellen had a sword placed on his neck the organ becomes loud and ear piercing. This
captivated the audience, by raising their heart rate and caused suspense as to who was holding the
other end of the sword. Whereas, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

out his gun to shoot Michael Feast once and for all, Stewart pulls the trigger, the audience flinched

was clearly identified in this scene. Whereas Roman Polanski s version took a different view,
Polanski used the head of Jon Finch to emphasize the death of Macbeth. This created suspense by
Macduff, who beheaded Jon Finch, and his head fell from at least 10 feet in the air. The utter
shock of Macbeth headless was forced upon the audience, which created the suspense of the final
death. However, Goold s version has once again proved to be the most suspenseful with the use of
props that kept the audience on the edge of their seats in

The Pros And Cons Of The Colonization Of Mars
If the human race is to continue for another million years, we will have to boldly go where no one
has gone before, said Stephen Hawking in 2008. The interplanetary migration of our species has
been a stimulating prospect for ages, and, as technology is advancing by the minute, we are only
getting closer to its realization. For this prospect, Marsis the sole candidate. There are many
reasons why this is so, and there are many reasons as to why we should undergo the colonization
of Mars now. But why Mars in particular? Because it is the nearest celestial body that also happens
to be very similar to Earth. A day on Mars only forty minutes longer than a day on Earth, which, to
plant and animal life, would be familiar. Not only that, but Mars axis tilts similarly to how Earth
does, which means that Earth and Mars have similar seasonal patterns. These two aspects would
provide colonists familiarity rather than alienation. Not only this, but Mars is the closest planetto
Earth that is potentially inhabitable. (Venus is closer to Earth than Mars but highly uninhabitable.)
Most interestingly, Mars has sizeable reservoirs of ice mostly beneath its surface, which then could
be uprooted and thus usable. No other celestial body within the Sun s liveable boundary (called the
Goldilocks zone ) have these conveniences, making Mars the best option for interplanetary
habitation.
Pursuing Mars colonization now would directly improve modern technology and life. Alexander

Examples Of Soliloquies In King Lear
Soliloquies are predominantly used to reflect the internal thoughts of primary characters.
Shakespeare used these to express how a character was feeling and to create a sense of dramatic
irony. This is highly evident in King Lear, as Edmund illustrates his thoughts to the audience using
these inner contemplations. Edmund is the antagonist of the play, and consistently proves this to be
true by his harmful and vindictive actions. His characteris revealed to be illegitimate, evil, and
deceitful. His soliloquies also set the mood to be ominous, victorious, and dramatic. Finally, he
advances the plotby creating conflict, providing details about the subplot, and intensifying pre
existing turmoil. Therefore, the soliloquies of Edmund in the Shakespearean play King Learreveal
his true character, create atmosphere, and advances the plot.
Edmund s true character is discovered to be malicious, and he is depicted as the villain of this
play. His first soliloquy is evidence of his iniquitous behaviours, as he begins to plot against his
brother. The first soliloquy introduces Edmund as a child born out of wedlock, which deems him a
bastard. Due to this title, he will not inherit any of his father s land after his demise. ... Show more

Edmund is revealed to be evil, illegitimate, and deceitful, but he also creates ominous, victorious,
and dramatic moods. Moreover, the use of soliloquies advances the plot as it creates conflict,
provides background details, and fuels prior conflict between other protagonists. These monologues
provide a route to the personal thoughts of the antagonist, which permits the audience to learn
greater details about the ongoing altercations. In conclusion, it is evident that Edmund s soliloquies
are vital to the overall development of the Shakespearian Classic King

childhood wartime experiences in Cambodia impacted her life in multiple ways.
One way Ung s childhood experiences affected her life wasn t being able to practice a religion. In

Pain And Perception Of Pain
Pain is not only defined as a sensation or a physical awareness, but also entails perception.
Moreover, pain is an unpleasant and an uncomfortable emotion that is transferred to the brain by
sensory neurons. There are various kinds of pain and how one perceives them is varied as well.
Certain parts of the brainalso play a key role in how one feels painsuch as the parietal lobe, which
is involved in interpreting pain while the hypothalamus is responsible for the response to pain one
has. Although some believe pain is just a physical awareness and is in the body, pain is all in one s
mindbecause the perception of pain and the emotion that controls its intensity differs in individuals
and when pain itself is administered to the body, the brain determines the emotions one attaches to
each painful experience.
The perception of pain and the emotions that control intensity differ in individuals. Since feeling
pain is somewhat adaptive, when one experiences it, he or she becomes aware of an injury and tries
to remove oneself from the source that caused the injury. For this reason, pain is considered
neuropathic or inflammatory in nature. Thus, when pain is the outcome from the damage caused to
the neurons of the peripheral and central nervous system, then that pain is neuropathic. However, if
the pain signals any kind of tissue damage, then the pain is inflammatory in nature. Due to various
types of pain, the interpretation of pain by neurons and the source of that pain

Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their
lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In
this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the
will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in
explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of
the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could
be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of
procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to
determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the
world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power
and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this
passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is
the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation
as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength
life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This

The Photographer s Eye By Richard Berger
While there were many poignant statements in Ways of Seeing, I was not a fan of this reading
overall; it seemed to contradict itself time and again. Early on in the piece, Berger talks about
art s spiritual value determining its market value, in conjunction with the rarity of a work of art.
Towards the end of the piece, after berating the reproduction of art for diminishing the value of a
piece, he poses that the corkboards that many people have in their homes covered in replicated
art and various slices of life should replace museums. I m confused as to why Berger would
present this idea after showing such disdain towards replication. It seems he has a very strict idea
of what art is and what makes it meaningful, on page 21 of da Vinci s Virgin on the Rocks he
writes, it is authentic and therefore it is beautiful, an idea I find have difficulty to grasp. My... Show

Szarkowski s The Photographer s Eye was a much more intriguing engaging piece in my opinion,
while it was significantly shorter than Berger s, I felt the message was much clearer. I love the
point he makes about paintings being made and photographs being taken. The influx of
photographs in the 1850s after the increased accessibility to the daguerreotype is reminiscent of
the influx of beat makers and home producers in the music industry. When home computers and
laptops became technologically advanced enough for anyone to fit their own, very basic music
studio in the form of a digital audio workstation, or DAW, like ProTools or Ableton in their
computer, music industry very quickly became over saturated; everyone wanted to be the next big
thing, and the necessary tools were now at their fingertips. Anyone can become a producer and
much like the accidental artistic qualities found in a handful of early photographs, there are a
plethora of novice producers who accidentally create something

Sam Journey
The Adventures of Sam
Once upon a time there was a salmon named Sam. Sam and his family lived in the Pacific Ocean.
Sam was about to embark on a very tough journey. He was about to make his way from the Pacific
Ocean into the rivers that would lead him further into the United States. He was planning on
making his way to the Snake River located in Oregon and Idaho. Sam was making this journey
because he was going to spawn. Spawning is when a female salmon leaves her eggs in gravel beds
located in rivers so that a male salmon will come and fertilize the eggs. The reason why this is
such a hard journey is because the Sam and the other salmon are going to be swimming upstream.

By the time he was in the river, he was having a hard time already swimming. So many other fish
were surrounding him that it made it difficult to swim through the water.
The first few days of the trip were started getting tougher. Although Sam is a fast and strong
swimmer, he started to get really tired on the 5th day of his trip. When Sam was in high school,
he was on the swim team. Sam was not only the fastest swimmer, but he was able to swim for
forever and not get tired. However, Sam had to swim upstream which meant he was swimming
against strong waters which made him really tired. He had already seen many other salmon die
from exhaustion. Sam was getting closer and closer to his destination. At the pace he was going
at he would arrive at the Snake RIver in a day or two. Sam was minding his own business just
swimming along until one of the other salmon swimming beside him started to start a
conversation with Sam. Hey you should be careful, up here is where we re going to swim
through Richland Falls. Sam replied Why do I need to be careful? What s so dangerous about
Richland Falls? The salmon yelled back to Sam I can t believe you don t know about Richland
Falls. To get to Snake River where I assume you re going you have to pass through

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Investment Bonds
In finance, bonds are an instrument of liability. The bond issuer owes the debt to the bond holders
and the holders owes the term of the bonds and can claim the principal once the maturity date
reached. Coupon can be paid at regular intervals such as semi annual, annual or monthly. Besides
that, the bondusually is negotiable which means that in secondary market, ownership of the
instrument can be transfer to other people. In the secondary market, bonds are highly liquid. This is
because the transfer agents have medallion stamp the bonds at the bank.

Examples Of Moral Dilemmas
2. What are values and norms and what is a moral dilemma?
To answer this question I will divide the question in three parts.
Starting with what values are. Values are an absolut or relative and ethic value of a person. Values
can be defined as a wide preference for specific actions.
The assumption of those can be a basic form for ethic handling.
A Valuesystem is a set of consistense values and measures. A principale value is a fundamental on
which values and measures of integrity are based.
Some values are physiologically determined and used usually for avoiding fysical pain or for
looking for fun. Other values are subjective, they are different for every individu or for different
religions. These values are more based on religion and their beliefs. Different values are ethical

Then the last part of this question, moral dilemmas. But what is a Moral dilemma?. A Moral
Dilemma is that two well known cases conflict with eachother. In each case you have moral
reasons to do each of the two actions, but it is not possible to do both. This is what you call moral
dilemmas.
What is really a common factor for moral dilemmas is, is that it is kind of required to do both
actions, in this situation you can choose one of them but you can t do both, so you start feeling
that you failed, because both actions are important for you. No matter which one you will choose
you always have the feeling that you failed or did something wrong. So to recap this all a Moral
Dillema is a Dillema between two factors/choices that are both important to you and whatever you
choose you will always think you made the wrong choice.

Round Hill Essay
Between Clay Bank Top and Kildale, the Cleveland Way traverses the highest part of the North
York Moors, and once again the views are magnificent. During the crossing, the route passes
ancient earthworks, boundary stones, burial mounds and the site of an incredible railway.
Although without a lengthy detour, food and refreshments are unavailable, so another packed
lunch is in order. From Clay Bank Top a steady climb leads to the broad plateau of Urra Moor.
After the initial ascent, the gradient eases, and the track continues to the summit at Botton Head.
However, Round Hill, lying 100 yards (92m) north of the footpath, is the highest point of the North
York Moors at 1490 feet (454m). The trig point stands on the Bronze Age burial mound of... Show

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Way continues across Greenhow Moor, climbing gradually to
Burton Howe which stands at 1419 feet (433m). The tumulus of Burton Howe is a round barrow
built during the Early Bronze Age from 2500 to 1500 BC. The Barrow has an earth and stone
mound standing 6 feet (1.8m) high and 49 feet (15m) in diameter. Excavations in 1956 revealed a
turf stack surrounded by a circular kerb. At the centre of this was a stone coffin, containing the
cremated remains; other finds include shards of pottery and a clay bead. Additionally, these
funerary monuments also served as boundary markers between territorial divisions of land.
Leaving Burton Howe, the route passes another Hand Stone , which stands some distance to the
right of the track. This one, dated 1757, has three sides carved with hands and directions.
Incidentally, the stone has a hollowed out top covered with a small rock; this is where passers by
could leave alms for poorer travellers. Evidently, this tradition continues since the stone contained

Breath Eyes Memory Analysis
In the book Breath Eyes Memory by Edwin Dedicat, Sophie lived in a time and place where there
were significant societal issues. As pertains to Haiti, genders are not seen as equal with women put
under pressure to conform to the masculine idea of what a female should look and act like. In the
book, a womans fingers symbolize her purpose in life, with each of her ten fingers representing a
different role, such as loving and washing. Sophie s aunt, Tante Atie, reflects on this stating, The
men in this area, they insist that their women are virgins and have ten fingers... Sometimes, she
even wished she had six fingers on each hand so she could have two left for herself, (Danticat
151). The social standards of women, such as Tante Atie, are causing them to conform to the
masculine ideal. The roles assigned to the women revolve around caring for men s needs, leaving
them with little time and opportunities for their own wants and needs. In wishing she had two
fingers to herself, Tante is showing that she feels like she doesn t have control over her own life
and can t do as she pleases in Haitis civilization. In this male dominated society, women have little
power, causing Tante Atie, Sophie, and other women like them to struggle to succeed and support
themselves without the contribution of a male figure. In addition to women in Haiti having little
power, their civilization created a hostile environment for the women of the country. During Tante
Atie s time in the

Certainly, Hitler created this two pronged attack to close the front on the east and to essentially knock Russia out of the war, however the aggressive fighting that came from the Russians caused the Germans to rethink their easy Blitzkrieg strategy and the Russians launched the astonished Germans into hand to hand combat. And although the Germans had been striking victories within Russiaafter breaking the German Soviet Nonaggression Pact, the Germans had multiple imperfections that led to their fall at Stalingrad; for they came as conquerors and not as liberators. Edward Gibbon s Declaration Of The Reign Edward Gibbon s declaration of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being the most happy and prosperous time in the history of the human race bases its claims on what could be viewed as superficial aspects of the empire. When studying the Roman Empire, it s difficult to not admire the stunning works, such as the House of Fawn in Herculaneum or Hadrian s Villa. The wealth needed to create such places indicates the prosperity within the empire during this time. If you were a prisoner of war coming to see the Forum in attempts to assimilate into this most happy and prosperous society, you were faced with images of your ancestors as captives. The forum catered to a specific class of Roman citizens and did not act as a place where the average Roman man or woman felt represented. In addition to the works of Trajan, Hadrian s Wall can also superficially symbolize the happiness and prosperity of the Roman Empire as asserted by Gibbons. The emperor Hadrian built Hadrian s Wall after returning from his visit to Britain. The construction of the wall was an attempt by Hadrian to set up permanent borders for the Roman Empire and show the strength that the Roman Empire had during the reign of Hadrian by doing so. The construction of the wall, while showing strength and wealth, also can symbolize the empires struggle with its borders, and even more so, citizenship. The wall itself symbolized the Roman Empire s tensions with the peoples surrounding the empire. The wall showed how the empire needed a structural device to maintain some level of peace within the empire. The idea of the reign of the Five Good Emperors being a time of prosperity can also be understood when looking at the changing roles of women within the empire. Women during this time period were treated differently than the woman before them. While it s difficult to assert definitively whether or not women were more respected during this ... A significant portion of the responsibility falls on the Crown as it is the responsibility of the Canadian government to ensure that all its citizens have equal opportunities and resources. A national federal water law would help ensure that at the very minimum that water is a human right that needs to be recognized, protected and readily available to everyone. At the very least, acknowledging water as a human right would be the first steps to combating systemic discrimination. For LanguageI will discuss the written and the unwritten language as well as the common language with the other bands. The social organization of the Pawneetribe consisted of the social class, and the political organization. The Pawnee tribe was divided into four main bands the Chaui or the Great Band , the Kitkahahki or the Republican , the Pirahauerat or the Tappage and the Skiri or the Wolf Pawnee . Factors Affecting The Environment Of A Watershed Introduction: Environmental issues caused by such human activities as farming, agriculture and infrastructural development can negatively affect the abiotic factors of the local environment. This can disturb water equilibrium and pose implications on the biodiversity of a watershed. Various forms of pollution, including runoff and erosion, can interfere with the health of its aquatic habitats. The purpose of this lab report is to observe to what extent the abiotic factors of Yellow Creek correspond with the health status of its ecosystem. This will be done by comparing the levels of turbidity and acidity and the corresponding level of impairment to four other water streams in the greater Toronto area. Research Question: How can the abiotic factors of a watershed such as acidity and turbidity indicate the health of Yellow Creek? Background information: Abiotic factors are nonliving, physical and chemical aspects of the environment. (Rutherford, 2015) The pH level is a quantitative measure of the hydrogen ions representing the acidity or alkalinity of a water solution. Aquatic life prefer water that has an acidic level of around 6.5 8.5 pH. pH levels higher than 8.5 become highly basic, while pH levels below 6.5 become highly acidic for water quality. This does not allow the species to regulate basic life sustaining processes, primarily the exchanges of respiratory gases and salts within the water in which they live. • 11. The Legal Definition Of A Duty Of Care And Negligence The legal definition of a duty of care and negligence is very complex. It primary concerns itself with relationship between the defendant and the claimant, it must be established that there is an obligation upon the defendant to take proper care to avoid causing injury to the claimant in all circumstances. Determining negligence is not always easy. Before 1932 there was no generalised duty of care in negligence. The tort did exist but it was only applied in particular situations where the courts had decided that a duty should be owed, e.g., road accidents, bailments or dangerous goods. Third parties who suffered as a result of a breach of contract had no remedy, because they were not a part to the contract and thus excluded by the doctrine of privity, which means that only parties to contracts should be able to sue to enforce their rights or claim damages. The idea of a duty of care in the tort of negligence has been developed over the years through judges making decisions in high profile cases. In a ground breaking case and milestone in Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562, an opportunity had arisen for Lord Atkin to formulate the neighbour principle . By doing so It created the and laid down the foundations of modern law on negligence, by setting out general principles whereby one person would owe a duty of care to another person. • 25. A Metamorphosis Of The Paperweight, By George Orwell Motolani Osinowo BOX # 2758 25 October, 2017 PROF. HODGE COURSE AHS 1000# SEC #06 Paper One Final A metamorphosis of the paperweight 1984, by George Orwell, is an overwhelming novel that seeks to notify humanity about the dangers of authoritarian rule and the aftermath of it all. In the novel, the paperweight is one of the greatest symbols because it is futile and beauty exists in it. However it is a sign of rebellion, through its simple and yet peculiar nature, in the eyes of The Party; it contradicts the idea that everything and everyone must be useful. One can come to a consensus that the coral and the glass dome represent Winston and the upper room or party, respectively. This is due to the fact that the glass and or room encases the coral or in this case Winston, or so he thinks. One is also aware that the paperweight reveals a part of the past, which sparks Winston s curiosity to what the hope for freedom really meant in the past this is a form of rebellion as the idea of freedom from Oceana is forbidden by the party. However, Orwell argues that the seemingly positive significance of the paperweight will be at a state of compromise through the use of sense perception, the remembrance of the past, and the destruction of the paperweight. Because the paperweight is a representation of Julia and Winston in the secrecy of the room, it reveals an inaccurate psychological form of the truth. By referring to terms such as light (Orwell, p.130) gazes (Orwell, p.130) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were many generals and idealistic Spaniards who explored the American regions taking with themselves many of our wealthiest resources. The Exploration and colonization of the Spaniards did not only open the door but also and accounted for the early stages of the North American continent. The Spanish began getting involved with the different cultures that had already been living there. This would result in the suffering of the continent. An example of this is the diseases to which the Spaniards exposed Native Americans during the period of exploration, we have typhus and tuberculosis, diseases for which at that time the Native Americans had no antibody too, so Native Americans were susceptible to infection, and thus they died in large numbers. These diseases still exist nowadays and are affecting a very small percent of the American population. Another is the fact that, many of the tribes that existed back then do not exist now because the Spaniards destroyed them. As I highlighted a few of the negative consequences, I should also mention some of the positive ones as well. Before the arrival of the Spanish, the Indians did not know the use of gold and how rare it really was. The Native American natives did not have any better weapons than arrows, bows, and weapons developed rustically. When the Spanish took over America, they brought their weapons with them. Although Spaniards introduced diseases, some of the missionaries brought medicine with them as a more positive influence. Also, the Spanish were among the first to distinctively map areas of North and South America and founded communities that became cities, some of which have lasted into modern times. • 33. Transparent Pictures Kendall Walton Summary In his chapter titled Transparent Pictures, Kendall Walton makes a claim, which most of us would agree on. He states that photographs are more realistic and therefore better at representing fact than paintings and drawings could hope to do. Walton also states that because of this realism we can see the past through the photographs in our hands. I can agree with him on his first claim but I have to disagree with him on his second claim. Photographs are realistic because of the details they can capture. However, those details are only details and do not allow us to see beyond what was captured in the image itself. If we could literally see into the physical object called a photograph, we could then accept the maxim that photographs are by their nature more powerful in their ability to tell the truth. This maxim though, needs careful consideration and must include a discussion on the failings that photographs potentially contain. For some time master artists have devoted time and effort to perfecting the elusive techniques needed to create a realistic picture. Painters of the post Renaissance moved closer to realism by several methods, one being perspective. To give a picture depth was difficult and required close observation. Finding the horizon line and then relating it to the paint canvas creates a linear perspective, as does proper sizing of objects in relation to each other. A good director is able to keep the audience engaged in the play, while a great director is able to make the audience feel like they are a part of the play. Since the play, Macbeth , can be interpreted in numerous ways, how the director chooses to include suspense in the final death scene can show insight into the director s perspective. In the versions produced by Trevor Nunn, Rupert Goold, and Roman Polanski, each performed a unique variation of the same play, but only one proved to be the most suspenseful through the use of sound, lighting, and props. The use of music and sound can emphasize important parts to make the scene more suspenseful for the audience. In Trevor Nunn s version, he used an organ as background sound. Whereas Roman Polanski s version took a different view, Polanski used the head of Jon Finch to emphasize the death of Macbeth. The interplanetary migration of our species has been a stimulating prospect for ages, and, as technology is advancing by the minute, we are only getting closer to its realization. For this prospect, Marsis the sole candidate. There are many reasons why this is so, and there are many reasons as to why we should undergo the colonization of Mars now. But why Mars in particular? Because it is the nearest celestial body that also happens to be very similar to Earth. A day on Mars only forty minutes longer than a day on Earth, which, to plant and animal life, would be familiar. Not only that, but Mars axis tilts similarly to how Earth does, which means that Earth and Mars have similar seasonal patterns. These two aspects would provide colonists familiarity rather than alienation. Not only this, but Mars is the closest planetto Earth that is potentially inhabitable. (Venus is closer to Earth than Mars but highly uninhabitable.) Most interestingly, Mars has sizeable reservoirs of ice mostly beneath its surface, which then could be uprooted and thus usable. No other celestial body within the Sun s liveable boundary (called the Goldilocks zone ) have these conveniences, making Mars the best option for interplanetary habitation. Pursuing Mars colonization now would directly improve modern technology and life. Alexander Kumar explained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Pain And Perception Of Pain Pain is not only defined as a sensation or a physical awareness, but also entails perception. Moreover, pain is an unpleasant and an uncomfortable emotion that is transferred to the brain by sensory neurons. There are various kinds of pain and how one perceives them is varied as well. Certain parts of the brainalso play a key role in how one feels painsuch as the parietal lobe, which is involved in interpreting pain while the hypothalamus is responsible for the response to pain one has. Although some believe pain is just a physical awareness and is in the body, pain is all in one s mindbecause the perception of pain and the emotion that controls its intensity differs in individuals and when pain itself is administered to the body, the brain determines the emotions one attaches to each painful experience. The perception of pain and the emotions that control intensity differ in individuals. Since feeling pain is somewhat adaptive, when one experiences it, he or she becomes aware of an injury and tries to remove oneself from the source that caused the injury. For this reason, pain is considered neuropathic or inflammatory in nature. Thus, when pain is the outcome from the damage caused to the neurons of the peripheral and central nervous system, then that pain is neuropathic. • 44. Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This ... • 45. The Photographer s Eye By Richard Berger While there were many poignant statements in Ways of Seeing, I was not a fan of this reading overall; it seemed to contradict itself time and again. Early on in the piece, Berger talks about art s spiritual value determining its market value, in conjunction with the rarity of a work of art. Towards the end of the piece, after berating the reproduction of art for diminishing the value of a piece, he poses that the corkboards that many people have in their homes covered in replicated art and various slices of life should replace museums. I m confused as to why Berger would present this idea after showing such disdain towards replication. It seems he has a very strict idea of what art is and what makes it meaningful, on page 21 of da Vinci s Virgin on the Rocks he writes, it is authentic and therefore it is beautiful, an idea I find have difficulty to grasp. My... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Szarkowski s The Photographer s Eye was a much more intriguing engaging piece in my opinion, while it was significantly shorter than Berger s, I felt the message was much clearer. I love the point he makes about paintings being made and photographs being taken. The influx of photographs in the 1850s after the increased accessibility to the daguerreotype is reminiscent of the influx of beat makers and home producers in the music industry. When home computers and laptops became technologically advanced enough for anyone to fit their own, very basic music studio in the form of a digital audio workstation, or DAW, like ProTools or Ableton in their computer, music industry very quickly became over saturated; everyone wanted to be the next big thing, and the necessary tools were now at their fingertips. Anyone can become a producer and much like the accidental artistic qualities found in a handful of early photographs, there are a plethora of novice producers who accidentally create something ... • 48. Examples Of Moral Dilemmas 2. What are values and norms and what is a moral dilemma? To answer this question I will divide the question in three parts. Starting with what values are. Values are an absolut or relative and ethic value of a person. Values can be defined as a wide preference for specific actions. The assumption of those can be a basic form for ethic handling. A Valuesystem is a set of consistense values and measures. A principale value is a fundamental on which values and measures of integrity are based. Some values are physiologically determined and used usually for avoiding fysical pain or for looking for fun. Other values are subjective, they are different for every individu or for different religions. These values are more based on religion and their beliefs. But what is a Moral dilemma?. A Moral Dilemma is that two well known cases conflict with eachother. In each case you have moral reasons to do each of the two actions, but it is not possible to do both. This is what you call moral dilemmas. What is really a common factor for moral dilemmas is, is that it is kind of required to do both actions, in this situation you can choose one of them but you can t do both, so you start feeling that you failed, because both actions are important for you. No matter which one you will choose you always have the feeling that you failed or did something wrong. So to recap this all a Moral Dillema is a Dillema between two factors/choices that are both important to you and whatever you choose you will always think you made the wrong choice. 3.What Values and Norms does the chosen organisation ... During the crossing, the route passes ancient earthworks, boundary stones, burial mounds and the site of an incredible railway. Although without a lengthy detour, food and refreshments are unavailable, so another packed lunch is in order. From Clay Bank Top a steady climb leads to the broad plateau of Urra Moor. After the initial ascent, the gradient eases, and the track continues to the summit at Botton Head. The tumulus of Burton Howe is a round barrow built during the Early Bronze Age from 2500 to 1500 BC. The Barrow has an earth and stone mound standing 6 feet (1.8m) high and 49 feet (15m) in diameter. Excavations in 1956 revealed a turf stack surrounded by a circular kerb. At the centre of this was a stone coffin, containing the cremated remains; other finds include shards of pottery and a clay bead. Additionally, these funerary monuments also served as boundary markers between territorial divisions of land. Leaving Burton Howe, the route passes another Hand Stone , which stands some distance to the right of the track. This one, dated 1757, has three sides carved with hands and directions. Incidentally, the stone has a hollowed out top covered with a small rock; this is where passers by could leave alms for poorer travellers. • 50. Breath Eyes Memory Analysis In the book Breath Eyes Memory by Edwin Dedicat, Sophie lived in a time and place where there were significant societal issues. As pertains to Haiti, genders are not seen as equal with women put under pressure to conform to the masculine idea of what a female should look and act like. In the book, a womans fingers symbolize her purpose in life, with each of her ten fingers representing a different role, such as loving and washing. Sophie s aunt, Tante Atie, reflects on this stating, The men in this area, they insist that their women are virgins and have ten fingers... Sometimes, she even wished she had six fingers on each hand so she could have two left for herself, (Danticat 151). The social standards of women, such as Tante Atie, are causing them to conform to the masculine ideal. The roles assigned to the women revolve around caring for men s needs, leaving them with little time and opportunities for their own wants and needs. In wishing she had two fingers to herself, Tante is showing that she feels like she doesn t have control over her own life and can t do as she pleases in Haitis civilization. In this male dominated society, women have little power, causing Tante Atie, Sophie, and other women like them to struggle to succeed and support themselves without the contribution of a male figure. In addition to women in Haiti having little power, their civilization created a hostile environment for the women of the country. During Tante Atie s time in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
