The two main actions that the United States government issued towards the Plains Indians were
the Homestead Act and the Dawes Act. The Homestead Act correlated with the trend of
Manifest Destiny and encouraged settlers to migrate west. The Homestead Act encouraged

small filing fee and were required to complete five years of continuous residence before
