What Was The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy of opposing European colonialism in the Americas
beginning in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any independent
state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition
toward the United States . The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at a time when nearly all
Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the point of gaining
independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th century, Monroe s
declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United States and one of its
longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and several U.S. presidents,
including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. Roosevelt
gave much thought while in office to the consideration of the Monroe Doctrine of 1823. He added the
Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904, asserting that the U.S might intervene in the
affairs of an American republic threatened with seizure or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taft saw the goal of diplomacy as to create stability abroad and through this, promote American
commercial interests. Taft and Knox also attempted to promulgate Dollar Diplomacy in China, where
it was even less successful, both in terms of U.S. ability to supply loans and in terms of world
reaction. The dismal failure of Dollar Diplomacy from its simplistic assessment of social unrest to its
formulaic application caused the Taft administration to finally abandon the policy in 1912. The
following year Pres. Woodrow Wilson publicly repudiated Dollar Diplomacy, though he acted as
vigorously as had his predecessors to maintain U.S. supremacy in Central America and the

Classroom Reflection Analysis
For the final part of the project, me and the other students, plus the teachers and aides met in the
classroom on Monday morning to reflect on the project. During the final round table teachers
expressed some concern with communication. I think they felt like it was difficult to communicate
with us students since they did not have any contact information from us. A great suggestion was
made during the meeting to make a google document that would include all of our contact information
as well as updates and information about the all the children who the teachers were concerned about. I
feel like this would be beneficial for both the students and the teachers in order to contact each other
more easily and to get updates on the children efficiently. During the course of the semester, I felt like
the students and the teachers were not on the same page due to the issues of contacting each other. For
instance, when me and partner would get to the preschool we sometimes would be unable to fully
observe or coach during our time due to other activities happening in the classroom. For example, one
time me and my partner came and an employee from the public library was there for her weekly
reading activity. I felt a little surprised by this novel situation, but my partner and I would try and
adjust our plan to make it feasible to the new situation. Another issue the teachers had was
determining what time works best for us students to come in and observe or coach. Our teacher Jihan
did not limit us too much on our times, except when they were on field trips. Other teachers noted that
they had specific times for students to come in, and they felt overwhelmed by the amount of students.
They described the situations to be somewhat difficult to discuss the children they were concerned
about or how the strategies were working for them. Hearing the teachers talk about when would be the
best time for students to come in reminded me that they have a lot to take into consideration when
planning. For instance, they need to take into account which and how many children will be in their
classroom since some arrive late and some leave early. They need to take into account how much help
they will need to prepare or clean up an

Swimmeet-Personal Narrative
Next time you take your cousin with you to a competition you end up with sadness and then joy(if you
work hard enough). It was a Saturday morning. Michael woke up from his bed at 6:00am, my cousin
was staying over since the swimmeet was closer. Alex who was really enthusiastic about the
swimmeet(his first one by the way) he was jumping all over the place, looking for his goggles. We ate
breakfast, Ella, my mom cooked corn beef hash some eggs and pancakes. Robert, my dad who was
also really excited about Alex s first swimmeet. (He used to swim in college and his abs are still in
shape by the way). Michael who was the youngest in this mile swim team was extremely nervous. We
had to board an airplane that took about 5hrs to land. From Hawaii to California. We stayed in this
hotel provided by DACA.

The results will be posted at the end of the swim meet. I remembered my mom congratulating me and
my family being very happy. My cousin is about to do his event 50 meter freestyle his first event. I
saw my dad with his phone out at the end of the pool. My cousin looks at me with an excited smile. I
smile back. Announcer: Take your mark. BEEP! My cousin launched into the pool with energy. He got
a 34 seconds in the end. My family cheering, their faces red at the sight of him winning his first event.
After I swam a mile, I was awfully exhausted. However My cousin when he looked at the results he
got disqualified for all of his races. My cousin was crying. He went to my parents sorrowfully to tell
him. Annabelle went up to congratulate me. I said thanks. My cousin was still crying. I went to the
snackbar and got two of those very overpriced hotdogs 6 dollars each! I found out that my cousins
coach was working.
Me: Did you know why my brother got DQ?
Coach: Yes, he waited too long on the flip turn.
Me: Oh, is there any way we can fix it.
Coach: Yes if we talk to the official.

China s Economic Reforms Increase The Economic Output
China s 1970 economic reforms boosted the economic output by 11.4% on a yearly basis. The reforms
gave authority to the provinces and enabled the market oriented public enterprises. The economic
gains were so great that they accounted for about 33% of the national GDP. Prosperity seemed
imminent since the 1970s, but little did the people know that they were on the path that would place
them as the world s most polluted countries and the worlds largest greenhouse gas emitter.
China is experiencing an alarming decrease in air quality. In the first 3 months of 2015, about 90% of
the cities in China failed to meet the national air quality requirement. Beijing, surrounded by the
heavily industrialized province of Hebei, is one of the most polluted cities in China and is followed by
the cities Baoding, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Handan and Hengshui. The smog in Beijing has
forced schools to build domes with air filters over recreational sections so that students can play sports
without having to inhale the dangerous components in the smog. The recommended safe air quality
index level is 25, but that index is rarely met given that levels over 250 are reached in Beijing; young
children are not allowed to play outdoors at levels above 200, and older children are to remain indoors
when the levels reach above 250. People are getting in the habit of wearing air filter masks to decrease
their exposure to polluted air, but pollution is now threatening water quality no mask can fix

Mormon Discrimination
We do not need to look any further than the Book of Mormon to find historical examples of exclusion
and discrimination. The Book of Mormon recounts a considerable number of unfortunate stories filled
with contentions and wars. These stories are predominantly between people of different colors and
cultures. The motivation in the majority of these ancient scriptural accounts are firmly rooted in pride.
The feelings of being better than, was prevalent.
More recently, we have the question of discrimination in relation to a policy that Brigham Young
announced (in the year 1852), restricting men of black African descent from priesthood ordination.
This announcement also disallowed black men and women from participating in temple endowments
and sealing ordinances. Personally, I am not clear on the motivation or justification for this more
recent example. Some have speculated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Interstellar: The Most Mind Blowing Movie of Outer Space Seven billion humans are on earth, and
the planet has a life expectancy of two years left before it ultimately destroys itself. Discovering a new
planet is necessary to keep the human race from becoming extinct. The movie Interstellar shows what
actions need to take place when the entire race of humanity is at stake. As someone who is curious
about the possibilities out there. About what we don t yet know about this world we live in and what
lies beyond as I look up into the star filled night sky. About God or a higher being, About science,
About how the two may or may not be related, About dimensions, About consciousness, About the
unseen and untold. This film moved me in all of those respects and more

planets, as well as anticipating the final days of earth. Director Christopher Nolan is known for
making great movies that sell out box offices around the country. He is responsible for movies such
The Dark Knight Rises , Man of Steel , Inception and many more other household names. The fact
that his last four movies in the past five years have each won Movie of The Year should be one of
many reasons on why this film needs to be watched (IMDb).

How Did Europe s Breaking Point Dbq
The Great War : Europe s Breaking Point An assassination that threw an entire continent into war, a
brutal bloodshed that stretched over four year, and ten million lives lost. The morale of entire
countries beaten into a tired submission. This is was what WWI left for Europe at it s close in 1918.
And these are the most popular details of this war. And although WWII is often spoke of more often
and televised more than it s predecessor, it s importance and relevance does not waver. If it were not
for this war, entire empires may still be in place. One could argue that if it were not for this war,
Russia may still be under imperial rule. This one war was a spark in a flame that kept burning in
Europe long after it ended. And though the assassination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of these countries were well off, Britain especially, with the Industrial Revolution increasing
exports and Imperialism producing resources needed to keep their economy superior to other
countries. In the middle of this alliance, there lay another. It consisted of Germany, Italy, and Austria
Hungary. The Balkans to the south were considered neutral territory in 1914 (Document A), but the
peoples of these lands were vastly unhappy. One such people were the Serbians. Now, the Serbians
were not happy with how their lives were, and dreamed of revolution. So, a group known as The
Black Hand devised a plan that they believed would bring the change they wanted to Serbia; killing
the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Now when this happened, Austria Hungary responded by
declaring war on Serbia. However, when this did this, they alerted the Triple Entente. Russia, which
was tied to the Triple Entente, was on good terms with Serbia. And so Russia declares war on Austria
Hungary, which causes Germany to join in, and invade Belgium. And so Britain, who was a friend of
Belgium, declared war on Germany, and then France joined because England joined. So, in effect,
because of one assassination, because of one death, all of Europe bursted into a long, bloody
engagement in which ten million people

Yet another leap forward came in the 19th century when steam powered printing presses became
popular. These machines could print 1,100 sheets per hour. From the 15th to the 19th century not
much changed except that conditions for freedom of the press were improved. Today, the majority of
books are printed by offset lithography in which an image of the material to be printed is
photographically or digitally transferred to a flexible metal plate . The 21st century has brought
numerous technological changes to the publishing industry. These changes include electronic books
(eBooks), print on demand and accessibly publishing. E books have been quickly growing in
availability since 2002 . Google, Amazon and Sony have been leaders in working with publishers and
libraries to digitize books. According to estimates from Google there are about 130,000,000 unique
books in the world. So far they have scanned and digitized over 12,000,000 that are primarily out of
print or no longer commercially available. Google has publicly stated a goal to scan and digitize all of
them within this decade. This ambitious project was introduced by Google in 2004, at the same time
they announced partnerships with several high profile universities and public libraries including
Harvard, University of Michigan, Stanford, Oxford, and The New York Public Library. Worth noting
is that with the technology Google is using, anyone is able to search this

Samurai Dbq Analysis
The samurai the warrior for Japan, they were determined to defend their ruler no matter what the cost
is for example torture, Death or imprisonment. The knight was the warrior for Europe. They kept
order in Europe when there was none. Even though samurai and knights have many similarities, in a
one on one battle, the advantage would be to the samurai and this can be seen in their armor, training
and beliefs. The first way samurais would have an advantage is their armor. In document D written by
the DBQ Project it states The helmet bowl was made of 8 12 iron plates. This gives them the upper
hand because they had more head protection, this allows them to take more blows to the head. Another
piece of evidence that supports my claim is in document D written by the DBQ Project it says Below
it was a 5 piece neck guard . Their neck protection is probably one of the most important place to
protect because one hit to the neck can paralyze them or kill them. Although armor is important, there
are more subjects that could lead them to victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens Summary
In Sean Covey s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Covey explains ways to better yourself and
how you can better others. He forms each chapter as a different habit. These habits help with self trust,
social skills, and ways to make being a teenager easier. The habits are divided by private victory and
public victory. Through this book, I learned better ways to communicate and a different look on the
world. Habit one is Be Proactive. Being proactive is when you take the highway to be the better
person instead of overreacting. You can do this by talking a problem out with someone instead of
storming off and making them feel worse about what they ve done. I occasionally use habit 1. I
generally use it when I have more patience or the situation isn t life changing. Habit one also tells you
to not always go in the fast lane that sometimes you just need to stop and take a break. Habit one is the
root habit. This habit plays into multiple habits to better yourself. Additionally, Habit two is about
taking control of your life instead of letting someone else take control of it. This Habit is known as
Begin with the End in Mind. This helps to make a plan on how you want tomorrow, next week, and
even the next year to go. In this habit, you learn to construct a mission statement to live by. I use this
habit every once in awhile when I need have a lot to do. This habit is also a root habit because it helps
plan for your future. Habit 3 is all about prioritizing. In habit two, we learned to know what we want.
This habit helps prioritize what you want and all others can be done later. This habit uses 4 different
time quadrants to show how we all tend to use our time. Quadrant 1 is the procrastinator. The
procrastinator puts everything off to the last minute. This quadrant is usually stressed out and tends to
stay up until the sunrises doing work. Quadrant three is the yes man. This person is always trying to
please people. By doing this the person ends up making no one happy because they are breaking their
promises. Quadrant 4 is the worst quadrant to be in. This is the slacker. The slacker spends more time
on their phone and playstation rather than actually work. School is the last thing this person thinks
about.

Pros And Cons Of Command Economic System
Economic Systems
In today s world, we are faced with the everyday question of what the best way to run an economy is.
There have been many different attempts to create the perfect economic system that adjusts to the
needs of each citizen, while maintaining a strong market system in which the people create ideas and
product and keep control. However, there has yet to be the perfect system that comes with less risk
than potential, and it is most likely that there will never be a system where cons are not attached to the
pros. Command, Market, and occasionally Traditional are the three main types of economies we see
today, and each one offers a different set of positives that the others can t. An idea that has always
been represented in the world has been a command economy. This is an economic system in which a
central power holds control of the economy, and regulates it. Countries like Cuba, China, and North
Korea practice this economy in forms of communism. Socialism can fall under this category as well,
however as it requires a government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The governments of these economies limit regulations and provide a large amount of economic
freedom. Countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and the United States each have their own
version of a market economy. Because of the economic freedom, these countries are very strongly
business centered and run off of the motivation of their citizens working their way to the top, or being
able to have a family. Economic efficiency and growth are also major factors, and the state of the
economy relies heavily on these things in order to be the best it can be. The tradeoff, however, is that
the governments cannot guarantee that citizens needs will be met. With freedom, there will be a large
lack of equity as many citizens won t achieve. Countries like the United States attempt to have
security nets in place to help, but these can only stretch so

Eharmony Case
The Dating Services Industry provides a product that generated $320m in 2015, has historically grown
at a 5 year CAGR of 5.0%, and is forecast to grow 3.9% YoY into 2020. I believe this trend is justified
as a growing number of consumers begin to turn to the internet to look for love. Key Drivers for
growth include the proliferation of broadband internet connections, the exponential increase the
number of mobile devices, increased use of the internet, increasing GDP Per Capita (2.2% CAGR),
and a slowing marriage rate indicating a high proportion of single adults. According to the case, the

As mentioned above, the competitive threat of rivals to incumbent eHarmony in the Dating Services
industry is high and increasing; therefore resulting in a very serious threat to industry profitability.
This threat is primarily due to the constant innovation in the industry that is driven by both internal
and external incumbents. Internally, downward pressure is currently being placed by three key
competitors, (1) InterActiveCorp, (2) eHarmony, (3) Zoosk, and (4) Others. InterActiveCorp,
eHarmony s largest competitor is a global conglomerate this creates a majority of the competition
within the industry. IAC has been very successful due to their ability to monetize products and expand
operations internationally, of which eHarmony is currently contemplating in the four options proposed
by Waldorf. However, the key difference and competitive advantage that IAC fails to maintain is their
customer selection. IAC believes that top line growth should be driven by delivering services to as
many customers as possible, whereas eHarmony believes in maintain the quality rather than the
quantity of their service. However, IAC quickly replicates any new product offered by eHarmony (e.g.

such as these bypass competitive advantages and facilitate the need for a new way to decrease this

The Birth Order Of A Child
In the order of which you are born are so important in some families. In some cultures, the most
important order to be in for a child was to be the oldest. Being the oldest, you could be first for the
throne or first as a prince or princess. Different spots of birth order create certain differences between
children belonging to this or that spot inside the family. These differences show why siblings are not
alike. The term siblings are used to identify children who are brothers and sisters coming from that
same mom and dad. The commonly known words sibling rivalry may be understood as a phenomenon
caused directly by the order in which you were born in. From the research of Alfred Adler, the birth
order of a child is the predictor of his future characteristics. Adler said that, the firstborn children are
dethroned when the next child comes along and that they may never recover from that. Adler believed
that the true reason for the differences between siblings is the desire to be different and have different
characteristics, to be individual and not compared to their other sibling, and to stand out from the
crowd of other children. Siblings ranging in age are always competing for the love of the mom and
dad. Also, the oldest and the youngest always seem to have to fight for power over one another to gain
control of the situation. I m the oldest, so I m going to be in charge! Or you hear the youngest one say,
I m going tell mom you re being bossy! You re not the boss

Charles Crick And James Watson
A potential key to the secret of life was impossible to push out of my mind (Watson 35). Without
Crick and Watson s development on the anatomy of DNA, the foundation for modern day knowledge
on genetics and inheritance would have never existed. Francis Crick and James Watson were two
scientists who discovered and deciphered the structure and different parts of DNA. Subsequently, if
they never conceived the whole idea of a human genome, the entire maintenance of life s code would
remain a mystery. Throughout the race where the men were aiming to be the first ones to unscramble
the DNA code, Crick and Francis encountered and exchanged ideas and hypotheses with other
scientists in order to produce the structure and function of the DNA ... Show more content on

The men exemplified exploration by looking into the works of Linus Pauling, a scientist who had
released his discoveries of the proteins found in DNA, during the mid 1930s. In addition, the x rays of
DNA photographed by Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin in the early 1950s contributed in the
finalized DNA structure (Cobb). From Francis and James article, Genetical Implications of the
Structure of Deoxyribonucleic Acid, it describes how genes can carry specific chromosomes onto later
generations. They supported their hypothesis by including the information gathered from Franklin,
Wilkins, and Pauling. If it weren t for their earlier exploration of other people s ideas, these two men
would never have been able to conduct enough experimentation in order to actually construct a model
of DNA.
Nonetheless, Crick and Watson did not simply go online and search up other s information. These men
had to encounter people and exchange ideas with them. Along that line, conflicts were encountered.
By the end of January of 1953, Watson went to King s college to meet with Wilkins in order to obtain
x rays taken of DNA. This picture that was shown to Watson is known as the famous Photograph 51,
which when Watson saw it my mouth fell open and my pulse began to race. Since a slight glance of

Greek Mythology And Its Impact On Modern Society
Greek mythology has been passed down over many generations and has led to many great tales of
heroes and gods. One of these heroes was Odysseus. Although Odysseus is best known as a warrior in
the Trojan War, he is also known for leaving an impact on modern society and committing acts of
heroism.
Odysseus lived an exciting life full of adventure and hardship. Odysseus was the son of King Laertes
and Anticlea. While being educated by the centaur Chiron Odysseus showed many characteristics of
greatness including great strength and courage (Odysseus). One time he showed this was during a
hunting trip with his father and uncle during which he killed a wild boar thus saving the adults he was
with. When Odysseus was of age he was passed down the rule of Ithica, also around this time he
began to think of marriage. Like many other men of Greek mythology he desired the hand of Helen,
the beautiful daughter of King Tyndareus of Sparta (Odysseus). Even though this was unlikely to
happen due to the poorness of Ithica, Odysseus tried none the less. When Odysseus went to Sparta as a
suitor he displayed his cunning personality, for this he quickly became famous. The King took notice
of this and and accepted advice from him concerning how he can be sure of Helen s safety. Odysseus
advised Tyndareus to make all the suitors swear an oath to protect Helen and the man she married
(Odysseus). They all agreed and a man named Menelaus became the husband of Helen. To show

Truly Experience The Pantheon Of Ancient Rome

of Ancient Rome. Its large dome is an everlasting testimony to the architectural genius of the Romans
and the building still remains basically in tact and offers a unique opportunity for many visitors to

you make your way towards the bronze doors, and walk under the rectilinear porch, the height and
width of the building will fill your vision completely. You have plenty of room to move around and
how you see in this area. The rotunda happens to be one of the most remarkable features that the
Pantheon has, it was the biggest domed structure until 1912. The interior of the Pantheon is more
dramatic and stunning in comparison to its exterior. When you walk inside, you are bombarded with
various colours of light that reflect off of a variety of surfaces. The alcove that is just opposite the
door, is the most impressive and it touches the ceiling. It has decorative cornice and red porphyry

The Economic Growth Of Dubai

Economic Growth of Dubai Now known as a tourist destination like no other, Dubai was once a small
fishing and pearling community of close to 1,200 people. Appearing regularly in Western pop culture,
such as, movies, music, television shows, and advertising, the city of Dubai has come a long way from
its humble origins. The purpose of this paper is to look at what contributing economic and cultural
factors, throughout history, that have contributed to the explosive growth of Dubai, with the early
establishment of trade being a key feature. To fully understand the scale of development that has taken
place, it is required to understand some of the history that has led to its current status as a leader in the
Arabian Gulf regional economy and a luxury travel destination. Though the area that would later
become Dubai had been settled since approximately 2000 BCE, the first recording in modern history
dates to 1822. Initially known as Debai, the area was home to the Bani Yas tribe. Originally a
dependency of Abu Dhabi, the village sustained itself by fishing, pearl diving, and minor sea trade. On

Millie, a personality of no hope to deal with self conflicts and Guy is a person who is in desperate
quest to dig out significance, meaning and purpose of his life. Guy can be declared as poor hero who
is in journey of achieving things he himself not aware of. Initially, Guy Mission is in declining phase
due to misguided and awkward steps taken by him. On the other hand, Millie is not confused, but in
great pain. She kept on trying to end her life with multiple suicide attempts. Further, she preferred to
be busy in watching TV most of the time to divert her attention from pain. Her true feelings are buried
deep down that resulted in pain and sadness related to confronting life. Both characters are in
desperate desires of understanding their Karma in the hands of hit and trial methods. Although, both
lives are suffering and surviving, but they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Guy wanted to have change in society and status quo. In comparison with Millie, he is frustrated, but
never wanted to end up his life. His failures are ultimately challenging him to do something and try
which is not already tried by anyone before. While, Millie s failures are just saddest part of her life
that compel her to end her life after being fed up with the harshness present in her life. In other words,
she lacks motivational factors in life. She has converted her pain into some pointless obsessions like
watching opera. Guy explored his unware areas by getting himself aware of subconscious actions and
rebellious desires by reading plenty of books. Millie has stopped exploring anything and is more into
adding misery in her life. She considered her life as already tried and already done stuff. Millie wanted
change too, but in a way that is more negatively influential. She wanted to change life into death and
obsessions into never ending phase. Guy once said Millie that If you hide your ignorance, no one will

The Gorill Natural Selection And Sexual Selection
Darwin s theory is in regards to natural selection and sexual selection. The gorilla is an animal that
uses the two selections to determine their protection, feeding, and reproduction. First Charles Darwin
described the characteristics and structures that a animal like a gorilla is born with. He states that these
characters and structures will have slow changes that will be different than when they were born. Then
he believes that they will have characters and structures that are trifling important. This means that
although the structures and characters may look like they aren t important, these structures and
characters actually have a significant factor regarding their protection. The gorilla possess significant
structures and characters that are prime for their survival. Thirdly, Darwin believes that in natural
selection animals like gorillas have structures and characters that are beneficial between the young and
the old. These structures and characters are what protects gorillas. They are also used to feed gorillas
like the breast on a female gorilla, or the silver hair on the back of a male gorilla. Lastly, Darwin
explains the greatness of sexual selection involving gorillas. He also believe that they use determining
factors on what male gorilla the female gorilla chooses to reproduce with. After analyzing the quotes
from Darwin s The Survival of the Fittest , I will explain the quotes to some degree and use examples
that the gorillas possess that are

A Reader Response to The Lie Essay
A Reader Response to The Lie
Pleasing people and the pressure that comes with it. This is a major factor in one s everyday life. Eli
Remenzel, however, has been caught in the middle of just one of the many lies he will ever tell. It just
happens to be that this lie was one that would make a lot of people disappointed. In the short story The
Lie , the parents, and Eli s actions make me angry. However, I can definitely relate to what Eli is going
through.
To start with, I got extremely annoyed with the mother throughout the story. Actually, it wasn t just the
mother, it was both of the parents in general. Sylvia is way to bubbly and fake. And Dr. Remenzel is
extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, I find myself upset that Eli was too much of a coward to confess in the first place. I am angry
that the parents found out from Dr. Warren, not Eli. Since he was the one to lie, he should be the one
to uncover the truth. He got the easy way out. Eli s parents did not know this because Eli had found
the awful notice in the mail and had torn it up. I understand how he must feel, but when this is
revealed I could not believe that he did not tell his parents.
Finally, I can relate to Eli in this story. I know how it feels to have that much pressure put in you. The
entire conversation about how many Remenzels went to Whitehill School furiates me because it just
goes to show that Eli will become a shame. For instance, my older sister and brother both made Senior
Choir their freshman year. I was indirectly told several times that if I didn t make it my freshmen year
as well, then I would become a disgrace to them. Eli s circumstance is much like mine. If he does not
get into the school, he becomes a disgrace to the Remenzel family. And being the youngest child (in
my case) and the only child ( in Eli s case) makes it so that we pretty much already have a path set out
for us to take. The best four years of your life are just about to begin . When Sylvia says this

Prison Camps
Even though you might not know the soldier s name or where they were born they still made an
impact on how the war ended. Lots of people went through rough times, for all different reasons. The
family s of the soldiers suffered too, image hearing that your family member was just killed, and not
being able to say hello when they come home after the war. Some fought for money, to escape from
their jobs, to end slavery or to serve for their country. Prison camps was one of the main hardships
most soldiers faced during the war, some would call it hell. You would get captured from the war and
be brought to a horrid place. As we entered the place, a spectacle met our eyes that almost froze our
blood with horror...before us were forms that had once been active and erect stalwart men, now

Children would take on jobs that their father or brothers usually did or chores that their mothers could
not manage alone because they were now the new head of the household since their husbands were at
war. Children would help their family business, tend to crops, cook meals, and at the same time they
still went to school. A young girl named Carrie Berry said I was ten years old today. I did not have a
cake, times are too hard. I hope that by my next birthday there will be peace in our land. There was a
shortage of luxuries and very little household goods, especially in the South. As the war progressed,
many children did not have enough to eat. Today I am every lucky that I can have cake on my birthday
and I don t have a lot of chores to do. I can only image what it would be like to be a little girl and hear
the sounds of soldiers walking by, and wondering if my father or brother was still alive. Or being one
of the soldiers is the prison camps sitting there slowing dying, wondering if I would ever see my
family again. This was one of my favorite topics to learn about this

Kroc later purchased the McDonald brothers equity in the company and led its worldwide expansion,
and the company became listed on the public stock markets in 1965. Kroc was also noted for
aggressive business practices, compelling the McDonald brothers to leave the fast food industry. The
McDonald brothers and Kroc feuded over control of the business, as documented in both Kroc s
autobiography and in the McDonald brothers autobiography. The site of the McDonald brothers

Antonio. I liked this region as it is different than the one I am accustomed to in the Gulf Coastal
Plains. Although it is known as the great plains it does have many hills which is something that is
different. I also enjoyed the change in climate as it is not as humid as Houston. I however disliked the

SES Mission Statement
Organization and Administration Final Exam: Question 2
According to researchers, the experiences of students in higher education have been examined through
a variety of lenses. These include race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Low socioeconomic
status (SES) students are outside the mainstream and arguably equally disadvantaged in higher
education. SES, however, has received little attention in comparison to the aforementioned special
interest groups (Walpole, 2003). Scholars who have worked to address this gap in the literature, found
low SES and high SES students exhibit different behaviors in college choice, matriculation,
persistence, and post secondary enrollment (Walpole, 2003; John and Paulsen, 2002). These variances
demonstrate that students with greater financial concerns are more at risk in terms of access to and
success in college. This essay will address the impact of SES on college access and success. In
addition, this essay will analyze the mission statement of The University of Texas at Austin (UT
Austin) for connections to issues of SES in college access and/or success. ... Show more content on

This, along with pressures from policymakers, led to practices that emphasized SES as a measure of
academic success that negatively impacted the matriculation of underrepresented students. These
practices rewarded higher SES students and penalized lower SES, resulting in misaligned financial
packages that impacted their access to the institution and ability persist. Aligning of institutional
scholarship to inform institutional policy is one example that would better represent the university s
mission of advancing society through research, creative activity, and scholarly inquiry. When
combined with its pledge to public service, the institution has a greater ability to frame its work and
positively impact issues of access and success for low SES

The Effects Of Video Games On Society And Corrupts...
Video games have been the subject of many criticisms throughout the years. One of the main
criticisms is that violence in video games causes violence in society and corrupts children and young
adults into doing bad things. A game series that is constantly in the spotlight of this criticism is none
other than the Rockstar Games series Grand Theft Auto. The most recent implementation in the
popular franchise is GTA V, which follows three main protagonists throughout their daily lives and
involvements in various crime scenarios. GTA is known to take a satirical stance and take jabs at
America and crime culture as a whole. So, within a game that is a parody of society and the vices of
humanity, it is not fair to say that this game is the cause of social violence. Themes such as torture as a
means to gain information, psychopathy, murder and other blue collar crimes can be seen throughout
the game. There are many criticisms due to these heavy themes, but in the end, every concept covered
in this game merely reinforces and parodies those of today s world.
Easily the most talked about and news media covered story related to this game is the torture scene in
GTAV. In the mission By the Book , the player controls one of the main characters, Trevor, and is
forced to torture a seemingly innocent man in order to gain information to assassinate a person of
interest for the FIB (Federal Investigation Bureau, parody of the FBI) in a graphic scene containing
removal of teeth, smashing

Marketing Options, And Apply For Various Licenses And Permits
After completing high school in Nigeria, I immigrated with my siblings to the United States in the fall
of 2003. While the opportunity to reunite with our mother was a momentous one, our joy will be
muted a few weeks later when we realized the daunting task that laid ahead: a single parent taking
care of five children alone would be no easy feat! Even as she picked up more shifts at the nursing
home where she worked, the cost of college tuition and other essentials had us barely getting by. The
next summer, we embarked on the lofty goal of opening a home healthcare business, one that would
the sustain the family and still allow her spend time with my siblings and me. Barely 17, I found
myself in charge of creating the business policies and procedures to meet established state and other
health organizations standards. Each evening after completing my college work, I would draft the
business guidelines, explore marketing options, and apply for various licenses and permits. 18 months
later, it seemed that all the hard work and patience had paid off our business had passed a rigorous
state inspection. Running a healthcare business was challenging, but due to our hard work and ability
to put the needs of our patients first, the business thrived. More importantly, this experience made me
yearn for a more intimate relationship with medicine. Rather than experience healthcare via the lens of
a business, I wanted to be the one caring for the patient. I completed a degree in

Hero My Mom
The Super Hero I Call Mom
My mother occupies a special place in my heart that can never be replaced. She became pregnant with
me at the age of nineteen. Being a young, single mother, she had to overcome difficult obstacles to get
us to where we are today. Life was tough and there were many times where she just wanted to give up,
but she was determined to turn her life around for the better. She ingrained a lifetime worth of advice
into my head but it was her actions that taught me that the struggles I will face now will make me
stronger in the end.
As a senior in high school, my mother was the colonel of the drill team and was preparing for college
when life threw a major curve ball her way. Once she realized she was pregnant with me, she had to
change her lifestyle entirely. With no support, financially or emotionally from my father, my mother
had to do it all on her own. This greatly affected my mother because even to this day she is still
playing a role as both a mother and father figure, and has never complained or failed to follow through
with any of her responsibilities. Raising me was especially hard for my mother because she lacked
financial stability. There were times when she didn t even have enough money for a bottle of formula.
Her parents allowed her to stay at home with them but she was required to pay rent in exchange for
my grandmother babysitting me while she worked as receptionist at a local chemical plant.
Working at the chemical plant and seeing her

Flies With Honey Guilty
The critical function of drama , so Robert Brustein tell us, is to arouse the remorse of guilty creatures
(382). In Flies with Honey, the underlining theme is guilt: not only Anna s compunction over
potentially murdering the girl she is in love with, but also her guilt for having these feelings of love in
the first place. This is intended to be portrayed not only through dialogue but having Amy, the alleged
murder victim, appear as a manifestation of the protagonist s guilt. In order to present this
successfully, I had to understand what it means to write of guilt feelings for the stage and how such
structure can affect characters and their authenticity. I also had to explore how this medium can be
realised in musical theatre.
In very broad terms, there exist two types of plot: one that is driven by action, and one that is driven
by characters (Alderson). Because my stageplay is only fifteen or so pages long and takes place in one
location, it allowed itself to be more character based. However, writing for theatre also brings the
audience into what Martin Meisel calls the present progressive , which he defines as a state of time
which allows viewers to begin in the midst of things, responsive to what is happening now, with

They quote John Truby in saying that the single biggest mistake writers can make when creating the
characters is that they think of the hero and all other characters as separate individuals (73). While

audience will not interest themselves with the journey of the character if the other characters are not
also concerned with what has influenced this

Feudalism And Social System In Medieval Europe
TERMS
LATE MEDIEVAL EUROPE
1. Feudalism
Social system that dominated medieval Europe, in which there were divisions in social classes that
resulted in a social hierarchy with the king/queen on top, nobles and lords underneath, knights and
vassals next, merchants, farmers, and skilled craftsmen/tradesmen next, and peasants and serfs on the
bottom.
?
Feudalism developed because in 476 C.E.., the Roman Empire fell, causing chaos and little to no
effective political leadership to lead the people out of the dark times.
The importance of feudalism is that it was a type of government. It may not have been the most
effective or unifying government, but it was a system that got the people through the Medieval Period.
It later made way for the monarchy system found in many European countries later on in history.
2. Scholasticism
A system of thought with the purpose of using classical thinking and church teaching by emphasizing
reason, tradition, dogmas and faith. Ex: Thomas Aquinas
During the middle ages in Europe. Taught in medieval European universities.
The Catholic Church used this concept to pull people in and become more knowledgeable about the
bible as well as reinforcing tradition. Thoughts of humans weren t based on scientific concepts, but on
consulting the higher authority. It did add some knowledge to the society, but it slowed the cultural
growth and progress of Europe.
Scholasticism was important because it encourages scholarly questions about faith, belief, and

  • 2. What Was The Monroe Doctrine The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy of opposing European colonialism in the Americas beginning in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to take control of any independent state in North or South America would be viewed as the manifestation of an unfriendly disposition toward the United States . The Doctrine was issued on December 2, 1823 at a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the point of gaining independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires. By the end of the 19th century, Monroe s declaration was seen as a defining moment in the foreign policy of the United States and one of its longest standing tenets. It would be invoked by many U.S. statesmen and several U.S. presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. Roosevelt gave much thought while in office to the consideration of the Monroe Doctrine of 1823. He added the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine in 1904, asserting that the U.S might intervene in the affairs of an American republic threatened with seizure or ... Taft and Knox also attempted to promulgate Dollar Diplomacy in China, where it was even less successful, both in terms of U.S. ability to supply loans and in terms of world reaction. The dismal failure of Dollar Diplomacy from its simplistic assessment of social unrest to its formulaic application caused the Taft administration to finally abandon the policy in 1912. The following year Pres. Woodrow Wilson publicly repudiated Dollar Diplomacy, though he acted as vigorously as had his predecessors to maintain U.S. supremacy in Central America and the ... • 3. Classroom Reflection Analysis For the final part of the project, me and the other students, plus the teachers and aides met in the classroom on Monday morning to reflect on the project. During the final round table teachers expressed some concern with communication. I think they felt like it was difficult to communicate with us students since they did not have any contact information from us. A great suggestion was made during the meeting to make a google document that would include all of our contact information as well as updates and information about the all the children who the teachers were concerned about. I feel like this would be beneficial for both the students and the teachers in order to contact each other more easily and to get updates on the children efficiently. During the course of the semester, I felt like the students and the teachers were not on the same page due to the issues of contacting each other. For instance, when me and partner would get to the preschool we sometimes would be unable to fully observe or coach during our time due to other activities happening in the classroom. For example, one time me and my partner came and an employee from the public library was there for her weekly reading activity. I felt a little surprised by this novel situation, but my partner and I would try and adjust our plan to make it feasible to the new situation. Another issue the teachers had was determining what time works best for us students to come in and observe or coach. Our teacher Jihan did not limit us too much on our times, except when they were on field trips. Other teachers noted that they had specific times for students to come in, and they felt overwhelmed by the amount of students. They described the situations to be somewhat difficult to discuss the children they were concerned about or how the strategies were working for them. Hearing the teachers talk about when would be the best time for students to come in reminded me that they have a lot to take into consideration when planning. For instance, they need to take into account which and how many children will be in their classroom since some arrive late and some leave early. They need to take into account how much help they will need to prepare or clean up an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael woke up from his bed at 6:00am, my cousin was staying over since the swimmeet was closer. Alex who was really enthusiastic about the swimmeet(his first one by the way) he was jumping all over the place, looking for his goggles. • 5. China s Economic Reforms Increase The Economic Output China s 1970 economic reforms boosted the economic output by 11.4% on a yearly basis. The reforms gave authority to the provinces and enabled the market oriented public enterprises. The economic gains were so great that they accounted for about 33% of the national GDP. Prosperity seemed imminent since the 1970s, but little did the people know that they were on the path that would place them as the world s most polluted countries and the worlds largest greenhouse gas emitter. China is experiencing an alarming decrease in air quality. In the first 3 months of 2015, about 90% of the cities in China failed to meet the national air quality requirement. Beijing, surrounded by the heavily industrialized province of Hebei, is one of the most polluted cities in China and is followed by the cities Baoding, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Handan and Hengshui. The smog in Beijing has forced schools to build domes with air filters over recreational sections so that students can play sports without having to inhale the dangerous components in the smog. The recommended safe air quality index level is 25, but that index is rarely met given that levels over 250 are reached in Beijing; young children are not allowed to play outdoors at levels above 200, and older children are to remain indoors when the levels reach above 250. People are getting in the habit of wearing air filter masks to decrease their exposure to polluted air, but pollution is now threatening water quality no mask can fix ... The Book of Mormon recounts a considerable number of unfortunate stories filled with contentions and wars. These stories are predominantly between people of different colors and cultures. The motivation in the majority of these ancient scriptural accounts are firmly rooted in pride. The feelings of being better than, was prevalent. More recently, we have the question of discrimination in relation to a policy that Brigham Young announced (in the year 1852), restricting men of black African descent from priesthood ordination. This announcement also disallowed black men and women from participating in temple endowments and sealing ordinances. Personally, I am not clear on the motivation or justification for this more recent example. Some have speculated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And although WWII is often spoke of more often and televised more than it s predecessor, it s importance and relevance does not waver. All of these countries were well off, Britain especially, with the Industrial Revolution increasing exports and Imperialism producing resources needed to keep their economy superior to other countries. In the middle of this alliance, there lay another. It consisted of Germany, Italy, and Austria Hungary. The Balkans to the south were considered neutral territory in 1914 (Document A), but the peoples of these lands were vastly unhappy. One such people were the Serbians. Now, the Serbians were not happy with how their lives were, and dreamed of revolution. So, a group known as The Black Hand devised a plan that they believed would bring the change they wanted to Serbia; killing the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Now when this happened, Austria Hungary responded by declaring war on Serbia. However, when this did this, they alerted the Triple Entente. Russia, which was tied to the Triple Entente, was on good terms with Serbia. And so Russia declares war on Austria Hungary, which causes Germany to join in, and invade Belgium. And so Britain, who was a friend of Belgium, declared war on Germany, and then France joined because England joined. • 11. The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens Summary In Sean Covey s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Covey explains ways to better yourself and how you can better others. He forms each chapter as a different habit. These habits help with self trust, social skills, and ways to make being a teenager easier. The habits are divided by private victory and public victory. Through this book, I learned better ways to communicate and a different look on the world. Habit one is Be Proactive. Being proactive is when you take the highway to be the better person instead of overreacting. You can do this by talking a problem out with someone instead of storming off and making them feel worse about what they ve done. I occasionally use habit 1. I generally use it when I have more patience or the situation isn t life changing. Habit one also tells you to not always go in the fast lane that sometimes you just need to stop and take a break. Habit one is the root habit. This habit plays into multiple habits to better yourself. Additionally, Habit two is about taking control of your life instead of letting someone else take control of it. This Habit is known as Begin with the End in Mind. This helps to make a plan on how you want tomorrow, next week, and even the next year to go. In this habit, you learn to construct a mission statement to live by. I use this habit every once in awhile when I need have a lot to do. This habit is also a root habit because it helps plan for your future. Habit 3 is all about prioritizing. In habit two, we learned to know what we want. This habit helps prioritize what you want and all others can be done later. This habit uses 4 different time quadrants to show how we all tend to use our time. Quadrant 1 is the procrastinator. The procrastinator puts everything off to the last minute. This quadrant is usually stressed out and tends to stay up until the sunrises doing work. Quadrant three is the yes man. This person is always trying to please people. By doing this the person ends up making no one happy because they are breaking their promises. Quadrant 4 is the worst quadrant to be in. • 12. Pros And Cons Of Command Economic System Economic Systems In today s world, we are faced with the everyday question of what the best way to run an economy is. There have been many different attempts to create the perfect economic system that adjusts to the needs of each citizen, while maintaining a strong market system in which the people create ideas and product and keep control. However, there has yet to be the perfect system that comes with less risk than potential, and it is most likely that there will never be a system where cons are not attached to the pros. Command, Market, and occasionally Traditional are the three main types of economies we see today, and each one offers a different set of positives that the others can t. An idea that has always been represented in the world has been a command economy. This is an economic system in which a central power holds control of the economy, and regulates it. I believe this trend is justified as a growing number of consumers begin to turn to the internet to look for love. Key Drivers for growth include the proliferation of broadband internet connections, the exponential increase the number of mobile devices, increased use of the internet, increasing GDP Per Capita (2.2% CAGR), and a slowing marriage rate indicating a high proportion of single adults. • 14. The Birth Order Of A Child In the order of which you are born are so important in some families. In some cultures, the most important order to be in for a child was to be the oldest. Being the oldest, you could be first for the throne or first as a prince or princess. Different spots of birth order create certain differences between children belonging to this or that spot inside the family. These differences show why siblings are not alike. The term siblings are used to identify children who are brothers and sisters coming from that same mom and dad. The commonly known words sibling rivalry may be understood as a phenomenon caused directly by the order in which you were born in. From the research of Alfred Adler, the birth order of a child is the predictor of his future characteristics. Adler said that, the firstborn children are dethroned when the next child comes along and that they may never recover from that. Adler believed that the true reason for the differences between siblings is the desire to be different and have different characteristics, to be individual and not compared to their other sibling, and to stand out from the crowd of other children. Siblings ranging in age are always competing for the love of the mom and dad. Also, the oldest and the youngest always seem to have to fight for power over one another to gain control of the situation. I m the oldest, so I m going to be in charge! Francis Crick and James Watson were two scientists who discovered and deciphered the structure and different parts of DNA. Subsequently, if they never conceived the whole idea of a human genome, the entire maintenance of life s code would remain a mystery. From Francis and James article, Genetical Implications of the Structure of Deoxyribonucleic Acid, it describes how genes can carry specific chromosomes onto later generations. They supported their hypothesis by including the information gathered from Franklin, Wilkins, and Pauling. If it weren t for their earlier exploration of other people s ideas, these two men would never have been able to conduct enough experimentation in order to actually construct a model of DNA. Nonetheless, Crick and Watson did not simply go online and search up other s information. These men had to encounter people and exchange ideas with them. Along that line, conflicts were encountered. • 16. Greek Mythology And Its Impact On Modern Society Greek mythology has been passed down over many generations and has led to many great tales of heroes and gods. One of these heroes was Odysseus. Although Odysseus is best known as a warrior in the Trojan War, he is also known for leaving an impact on modern society and committing acts of heroism. Odysseus lived an exciting life full of adventure and hardship. Odysseus was the son of King Laertes and Anticlea. While being educated by the centaur Chiron Odysseus showed many characteristics of greatness including great strength and courage (Odysseus). One time he showed this was during a hunting trip with his father and uncle during which he killed a wild boar thus saving the adults he was with. When Odysseus was of age he was passed down the rule of Ithica, also around this time he began to think of marriage. Like many other men of Greek mythology he desired the hand of Helen, the beautiful daughter of King Tyndareus of Sparta (Odysseus). Even though this was unlikely to happen due to the poorness of Ithica, Odysseus tried none the less. When Odysseus went to Sparta as a suitor he displayed his cunning personality, for this he quickly became famous. The King took notice of this and and accepted advice from him concerning how he can be sure of Helen s safety. The interior of the Pantheon is more dramatic and stunning in comparison to its exterior. When you walk inside, you are bombarded with various colours of light that reflect off of a variety of surfaces. The alcove that is just opposite the door, is the most impressive and it touches the ceiling. The Economic Growth Of Dubai Gibbs 2 Scott Gibbs Dr. Jones Islamic History 5 6 16 Economic Growth of Dubai Now known as a tourist destination like no other, Dubai was once a small fishing and pearling community of close to 1,200 people. Appearing regularly in Western pop culture, such as, movies, music, television shows, and advertising, the city of Dubai has come a long way from its humble origins. The purpose of this paper is to look at what contributing economic and cultural factors, throughout history, that have contributed to the explosive growth of Dubai, with the early establishment of trade being a key feature. To fully understand the scale of development that has taken place, it is required to understand some of the history that has led to its current status as a leader in the Arabian Gulf regional economy and a luxury travel destination. Though the area that would later become Dubai had been settled since approximately 2000 BCE, the first recording in modern history dates to 1822. Initially known as Debai, the area was home to the Bani Yas tribe. Originally a dependency of Abu Dhabi, the village sustained itself by fishing, pearl diving, and minor sea trade. On June 9, 1833, led by Maktoum Bin Butti Al Maktoum, 800 members of the Al Bu Falasah clan peacefully took over the village and established the al Maktoum dynasty, which still rules Dubai, and the UAE, to this day. I am angry that the parents found out from Dr. Warren, not Eli. Since he was the one to lie, he should be the one to uncover the truth. He got the easy way out. Eli s parents did not know this because Eli had found the awful notice in the mail and had torn it up. I understand how he must feel, but when this is revealed I could not believe that he did not tell his parents. Finally, I can relate to Eli in this story. I know how it feels to have that much pressure put in you. The entire conversation about how many Remenzels went to Whitehill School furiates me because it just goes to show that Eli will become a shame. For instance, my older sister and brother both made Senior Choir their freshman year. I was indirectly told several times that if I didn t make it my freshmen year as well, then I would become a disgrace to them. Eli s circumstance is much like mine. If he does not get into the school, he becomes a disgrace to the Remenzel family. • 28. SES Mission Statement Organization and Administration Final Exam: Question 2 According to researchers, the experiences of students in higher education have been examined through a variety of lenses. These include race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. Low socioeconomic status (SES) students are outside the mainstream and arguably equally disadvantaged in higher education. SES, however, has received little attention in comparison to the aforementioned special interest groups (Walpole, 2003). Scholars who have worked to address this gap in the literature, found low SES and high SES students exhibit different behaviors in college choice, matriculation, persistence, and post secondary enrollment (Walpole, 2003; John and Paulsen, 2002). These variances demonstrate that students with greater financial concerns are more at risk in terms of access to and success in college. • 29. The Effects Of Video Games On Society And Corrupts... Video games have been the subject of many criticisms throughout the years. One of the main criticisms is that violence in video games causes violence in society and corrupts children and young adults into doing bad things. A game series that is constantly in the spotlight of this criticism is none other than the Rockstar Games series Grand Theft Auto. The most recent implementation in the popular franchise is GTA V, which follows three main protagonists throughout their daily lives and involvements in various crime scenarios. GTA is known to take a satirical stance and take jabs at America and crime culture as a whole. So, within a game that is a parody of society and the vices of humanity, it is not fair to say that this game is the cause of social violence. Themes such as torture as a means to gain information, psychopathy, murder and other blue collar crimes can be seen throughout the game. There are many criticisms due to these heavy themes, but in the end, every concept covered in this game merely reinforces and parodies those of today s world. Easily the most talked about and news media covered story related to this game is the torture scene in GTAV. In the mission By the Book , the player controls one of the main characters, Trevor, and is forced to torture a seemingly innocent man in order to gain information to assassinate a person of interest for the FIB (Federal Investigation Bureau, parody of the FBI) in a graphic scene containing removal of teeth, smashing ... While the opportunity to reunite with our mother was a momentous one, our joy will be muted a few weeks later when we realized the daunting task that laid ahead: a single parent taking care of five children alone would be no easy feat! Running a healthcare business was challenging, but due to our hard work and ability to put the needs of our patients first, the business thrived. • 31. Hero My Mom The Super Hero I Call Mom My mother occupies a special place in my heart that can never be replaced. She became pregnant with me at the age of nineteen. Being a young, single mother, she had to overcome difficult obstacles to get us to where we are today. Life was tough and there were many times where she just wanted to give up, but she was determined to turn her life around for the better. She ingrained a lifetime worth of advice into my head but it was her actions that taught me that the struggles I will face now will make me stronger in the end. As a senior in high school, my mother was the colonel of the drill team and was preparing for college when life threw a major curve ball her way. Once she realized she was pregnant with me, she had to change her lifestyle entirely. With no support, financially or emotionally from my father, my mother had to do it all on her own. This greatly affected my mother because even to this day she is still playing a role as both a mother and father figure, and has never complained or failed to follow through with any of her responsibilities. • 32. Flies With Honey Guilty The critical function of drama , so Robert Brustein tell us, is to arouse the remorse of guilty creatures (382). In Flies with Honey, the underlining theme is guilt: not only Anna s compunction over potentially murdering the girl she is in love with, but also her guilt for having these feelings of love in the first place. This is intended to be portrayed not only through dialogue but having Amy, the alleged murder victim, appear as a manifestation of the protagonist s guilt. In order to present this successfully, I had to understand what it means to write of guilt feelings for the stage and how such structure can affect characters and their authenticity. I also had to explore how this medium can be realised in musical theatre. In very broad terms, there exist two types of plot: one that is driven by action, and one that is driven by characters (Alderson). Because my stageplay is only fifteen or so pages long and takes place in one location, it allowed itself to be more character based. • 33. Feudalism And Social System In Medieval Europe TERMS LATE MEDIEVAL EUROPE 1. Feudalism Social system that dominated medieval Europe, in which there were divisions in social classes that resulted in a social hierarchy with the king/queen on top, nobles and lords underneath, knights and vassals next, merchants, farmers, and skilled craftsmen/tradesmen next, and peasants and serfs on the bottom. ? Feudalism developed because in 476 C.E.., the Roman Empire fell, causing chaos and little to no effective political leadership to lead the people out of the dark times. The importance of feudalism is that it was a type of government. It may not have been the most effective or unifying government, but it was a system that got the people through the Medieval Period. It later made way for the monarchy system found in many European countries later on in history. 2. Scholasticism A system of thought with the purpose of using classical thinking and church teaching by emphasizing reason, tradition, dogmas and faith. Ex: Thomas Aquinas During the middle ages in Europe. Taught in medieval European universities. The Catholic Church used this concept to pull people in and become more knowledgeable about the bible as well as reinforcing tradition.
