Postman On Education Summary
Postman finds ways that god s (narratives like myths) contributes to education. He mentions that
Public education does not serve a public. It creates a public. And in creating the right kind of
public, the schools contribute toward strengthening the spiritual basis of the American Creed. The
right answer depends on two things, and two things alone: the existence of shared narratives and
the capacity of such narratives to provide an inspired reason for schooling,,. At its best, schooling
can be about how to make a life, which is quite different from how to make a living. I choose these
quotes because it refers to the modern educationwhich arise a problem that most students do not
have a motivating reason to be enthusiastic in their education. However the speaker s has negative
opinion of the existing education system moreover it fails to involve and prepare young people for
the challenges of the real world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one is the engineering side, most young people get education through this category. The
other one is the metaphysical which includes the mission and purpose of education. Postman
suggest new narratives that may improve public education. These are the spaceship earth, the fallen
angel, the American experiment, the law of diversity and the word weavers. Those news gods will
help the education, one of the new god s deals with the commonly human mistakes. Humans are not
perfect, but by making mistakes can learn from their errors. These narratives will help education
therefore education will have a higher

How Did The Influence Of Hinduism During The Vedic Era
It is widely known that the Vedic Era was one of the most influential time periods in ancient history.
This is largely due to how the composition of the Vedas was made during this time, which was an
essential set of texts that greatly shaped Hinduism. This impact on Hinduism however would not
been a success without Sanskrit. During this time Sanskrit was able to completely change the
method of communication and along with having influence on the Vedasand Hinduism, Sanskrit,
most likely arriving from outside of Indiaencountered Ancient Asia, specifically during the
beginning of the Vedic Era, became central to South Asian culture, language and religion by 500
BCE. Other influences of Sanskrit can be observed through culture, language, and belief systems.
The Vedic Era can be described best as the time period when the Vedas were being composed. This
took place between 1500 500 BCE. Although the Vedic Era is famous for the composition of The
Vedas, a series of texts essential to Hinduism, it is also known for the development of the Sanskrit
language and other valuable advancements that further influenced the history of India and the
surrounding areas. Some of these valuable advancements include mathematics, especially algebra
and geometry, as well as early astronomy and planetary observations, many of which can be found
in the historical Vedic texts. Some other notable advancements made during this time include
technology. Shipbuilding, methods of trade and agriculture were

How to Drive Manual Car Essay
Outline
Manual Transmission Cars
Purpose To explain to the class about manual transmission cars and how to drive one.
Central Idea Driving a manual transmission car is very different from driving an automatic
transmission car
I. Introduction
Today about 6 million people drive a car in the United States, but the percentage of those people that
drive a manual transmission is significantly less than those who drive automatic. In every country
in Europe, and perhaps in the world, manual cars are a common sight. However, here in the
U.S.A. finding a manual car and someone who knows how to drive one is like looking for a needle
in a haystack. Although they are not as common as an automatic car,... Show more content on

Cars often have 4 gears and a reverse gear.
Transition: Ok so lets pretend we got into a manual car, we adjusted our mirrors, we put on our
seatbelts and now we re ready to go somewhere.
C. To get moving onto the road there are some things that we have to do. a. First off, we have to
release the Emergency Break.
i. Failure to do so might result in damage to the transmission and engine.
b. Next we have to step on the clutch pedal and shift the car to first gear.
c. Then we have to slowly release the clutch and start pressing on the gas pedal.
Transition: Next thing you know you re moving, but your car is starting to roar, time to change gear.
D. Changing gear from 1st to 2nd is much easier than the initial start. a. First, you step on the
clutch pedal. b. Next, you chose your gear. c. Then, you have to press on the gas lightly while
releasing the clutch
i. Note that this has to be done quickly, but not too quickly otherwise the car will give kickback
Transition: Sounds easy right? It took me about a month to fully understand it.
III. Conclusion
From what I ve been through if you ever want to learn to drive stick shift I highly recommend you
go to a driving school that teaches manual because they wont yell at you or call you names. Also,
it can be discouraging and depressing at first because you will stall a lot, that s when the

Chapter Two
Not only did Red get on the committee, it looked like she would get voted President without even
trying. She was really excited, but tried to keep her smile down to just a grin.
Shouldn t we still vote? Just to be fair. She tapped her toes on the floor, dancing a little jig in her
seat, her plan was working almost perfectly. All in favor of Red for president of the class
committee, raise your hand. Said Sherri smartly, raising her hand high in the air. Darrell, Gary,
Pierre and Sam followed suit. Red felt her grin spread wider and accepted their quiet applause with
a silly little bow. Oh my swirls! You guys won t regret this!

She was feeling pleased with her sketch so far, when she was startled by a snort behind her. A cute
little baguette suddenly grew an awkward antenna. She hurried to erase the line.
What is that? A pudgy ringed hand pointed at the outline of a basket of cheering cinnamon rolls
sitting on a table with dancing doughnuts.
It s a sweets table with dancing pastries. I am in the rough sketching stage right now, so it doesn t
look like much, except random circles, squares and lines. Boris pushed her art bag off her desk, as
he leaned in, squinting at the paper, and Peg snatched the poster off her desk, ripping a corner. She
then flipped it to the floor and stamped on it, making sure to leave a dirty footprint on the paper.
Red reached for her art bag and flinched as boris gave it a kick. She watched as her oil pastel
crayons spilled out of her bag, and a lone red crayon rolled down the aisle. We don t care about
your stupid ideas. No one looking at that poster would want to come to this classroom anyway.
Peg stood over Red, making her cringe as she shook in her seat. It s all just chicken scratch. The
twins glared at Red, as she slid out of her seat and picked up the poster and attempted to brush off
the dirt. As the twins started back down the aisle they came from, Boris made sure to kick her
pencil bag hard enough to disperse what was left in it. Red watched as her red

Mike O. Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge
Since the early days, the men try overcome environmental challenges and, in this process, ends up
creating amazing masterpieces of engineering. Among this works, the bridges appears as the
clearest representatives of how the mankind could adapt to Earth s contours. If the shape of
landscape can t be changed, the bridgesare the solution to link two places and allows the connection
of the traffic to improve aspects such as the communication and the trade. Depending to the need, to
the sources and to the environment, the bridgecan be constructed in a specific configuration. There
are five main sorts of bridges configurations. First, there is the simplest bridge, the beam bridge.
Second, the archbridge, one of the oldest kind. There are the truss, composed of set of trellises.

Among the hundreds of thousands bridges in the world, two worth mentioning for their history and
unique features. These two engineering masterpieces are the Mike O Callaghan Pat Tillman
Memorial Bridge, as known as Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Through
the analysis of their characteristics, it is possible compare and contrast these projects in aspects
such as historic facts, design features, and environmental and construction challenges.
First, the construction of the bride reflects a need and depends of the constructors sources. A
bridge is basically constructed to link two places, but its importance comes from the reason for
which it was made. Each bridge has its own motive to exist and history. In the case of the Hoover
Dam Bypass, the project was conceived as a alternative to the traffic. Previously the construction
of the bridge, the big project of the hydroelectric dam on the Colorado River, also was used as a

Acting Companies During The Elizabethan Era
Acting companies have been around almost as long as theatre itself. The first of the
professional stage companies started back in the 1560s. They were used for their comedic trade.
These companies also used women on the stage (Brown, 125 126). They can be seen as part of
tribal rituals to Broadway musicals making their way across countries. There are many forms of
acting companies. There are companies that meet once a year or they can travel around countries
for long periods of time. Stage companies are a large part of the theatreculture and community.
Acting companies became prominent during the Elizabethan Era. Families able to have a

During his career, Shakespeare had the pleasure of working with many different actors and many
different acting companies. Actors at that time held stable memberships allowing them claim over a
role written by the playhouse scribe. This membership changed very little when Shakespeare began
writing his scripts to be performed (Brown, 184). Even with this membership, there was still high
tension and competition between different troupes surrounding Shakespeare. The competition
began to heat up even more with the construction of the Globe Theatre. The two competing troupes
were the Admiral s Men and the Chamberlain s Men. In the end, the Chamberlain s Men took
residency at the Globe (Brown, 184). The Admiral s Men took residency at the competing theatre
the Rose and Fortune. Shakespeare s company was managed by the Londoner James Burbage
(Gurr, 4).
Even though theatres were being built, companies still travelled giving tours. When theatres and
playhouses were closed, the troupes would travel familiar and routine plan to go back to (Lander,

laws. They only went to a few towns and grandees at their country homes when they did go on tour.

Volcano s A Volcano Eruption By Cliff Montgomery
Volcano How to Survive Them.
When it comes to surviving, people will take whatever means are necessary to live just a little
bit longer. An example of this could be a point in the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat
sinking, Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. As a result, she was one
of the few people to actually be alive and rescued when the boats came back. When it comes to
survival, at that moment in time there is no rule book on what measure one can take to survive but
a person should know the basics. Volcanoes are a good example of this. Volcanos: How to Survive
a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery s article is effective because it acknowledges what is in
a volcano, explain what to do when a volcano is erupting and provides knowledge about what to
watch out for.
In the article: Volcano s How to Survive a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery , he gives
people a knowledge of Volcano s in depth. Montgomery first starts out giving background
information about places where volcano eruptions have occurred what the effects of those
eruptions have done to the city and the people. Next, he goes into the workshop about how
volcano s work and what is exactly inside of them that does so much harm. Lastly, he mentions is
how to protect one s self when the volcano erupts before and after the eruption.
No one really knows how volcanoes came to be but we know what is inside one. An example of
this would be in the article Volcanoes

The Revolt Of The Cockroach People
Mexican Americans in Texas have a long and detailed history spanning from the arrival of
Cortez all the way to the present day. Through historical events, the culture and identity of
Mexican Americans have shifted, diverted, and adapted into what people chose to identify as.
The rise of the Chicano identity during the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement was an
adaptation as a culture to oppressive and unjust treatment from white, Anglos that had almost all
political and social power over all minorities. To stop the oppressive voices from silencing and
oppressing the Mexican Americans, they had to stand up to fight for their rights as American
citizens that also had Mexican or Spanish heritage to be proud of. In Oscar Zeta Acosta s novel,
The Revolt of the Cockroach People, he dives into the Chicano Movement as a witness and an
active participant. His larger than life character is on the front lines of the movement and
examines the shift in identity among the group. It was particularly rising of their Chicano identity
that gave the people cause to organize politically and socially in order to fight for a worthy cause.
One aspect of the Chicano identity that gave rise to the Chicano Movement is the power of
reviving gender roles. The revival of the traditional roles gave Chicano men the desire to assert
themselves as the dominate gender to conquer the past oppressions from whites. Traditional roles
for men in Anglo, Spanish, and Mexican cultures dictate the men as the

Ghetto disease was a syndrome caused by loss of hope and exhaustion. An example of this is: In
the evening I had to prepare food and cook supper, which exhausted me totally. In politics there s
absolutely nothing new. Again out of impatience I feel myself beginning to fall into melancholy.
There is really no way out of this for us (Sierakowiak 2). A week later the author of this quote,
Dawid Sierakowiak, died of ghetto disease . These neighborhoods were blocked off from the rest
of the cities with barbed wire. In some places, the fences were a combination of brick and wire
that rose up to eleven feet high. If anyone tried to cross the fences or communicate with anyone
on the other side of the fence, they were shot on sight. The only people allowed to pass through
the fences were Jews with work permits or non Jewish citizens aligned with the Nazi party. Due
to these horrendous circumstances, resistance forces began to form in the ghettos. These forces,
such as the Jewish Combat Organization and the Jewish Fighting Organization, ZOB, fought
with homemade bombs and guns smuggled into the ghettos. Others resisted the Nazis by
keeping a record of the ordeal. George Kadish was one of the people who kept a record. He made
himself a pocket camera so he could get pictures of all the horrific experiences in the Warsaw
Ghetto. Dawid Sierakowiak was a teenage boy

While talking to Holden, Mr. Antolini says, This fall I think you re riding for it s a special kind

Mr. Antolini is implying that Holden will not realize when he has reached an all time low. Mr.
Antolini is also implying that somehow if Holden keeps going on this downward path down, he
could possibly even end up dead as well, however that might happen. Mr. Antolini is trying to
warn him of this fall and try to help him, before he hits the ground. Mr. Antolini was not able

Antolini says to Holden, So they gave up looking. They gave it up before they ever really even

What are surfactants? Surfactants are chemicals that reduce the surface tension between two liquids
such as water and oil. It connects both polar and non polar molecules. Surfactants contain both a
water loving head and oil loving tail.
What do they do? Surfactants lower the surface tension of a liquid. They change the properties of
materials.
Examples: Sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, disodium lauryl sulfuccinate
They can be in 3 different groups:

Surfactants can break down oils and water
They are able to work with water and oil.
Cleansing the most common use of surfactants in cosmetics is for cleansing. This is because skin
and hair obtain a large amount of dirt from the environment, which is known as solid particulates,
and from hair follicles known as oily deposits, which stays there. Lipophilic substances (oil loving)
attract the oily deposits. Surfactants are used to get rid of them. Through the use of aligning
lipophilic and hydrophilic ends, it is able to take the lipids off the exterior.
Foaming Surfactant solutions can foam, as the air in liquids are trapped in the surfactant molecules.
Foam is often desirable among consumers for cosmetics, so it is a key feature of surfactants.
Emulsification A lot of cosmetic products want to add oily materials to it in order to have the
preferred effect on skin and hair. These ingredients usually can t be applied directly because they
have undesirable aesthetic characteristics in their concentrated form. For this reason, cosmetic
chemists create emulsions using

The Slippery Snow On The Cold Ice Pack
Today was supposed to be like every other Sunday. No matter what the weather gave us, we got
up bright and early to go to church, and after we went to lunch at OUR FAMILY S DINER. As
we were leaving lunch and heading back into town, we had our music blaring to pop hits as
usual. My little sister and I love to dance in the car while my parents sing a duet, but today we
got carried away. My father was paying more attention to hitting the high note than the flashing
railroad lights ahead. By the time my father touched the brakes, we were far too close to the
tracks. The slippery snow on the ground did not help his attempt to stop before the tracks. Then
everything went black. When I woke up I could feel the cold ice pack against my left temple.
Within seconds of my eyes being opened, nurses came running in to check my monitors. Pain
radiated throughout my body. My right wrist and right leg were covered under a cast, and I had
a neck brace around my neck. A thin, blonde nurse in a blue scrub asked, Good morning, Dear. It
s nice to see you re finally awake. How do you feel? Do you remember anything? No, what
happened? How long have I been asleep for? Where s my mom? I asked impatiently, almost

1. Jeff Immelt s strategies for GE were solid in a theoretical sense. The company should have been
delivering above average returns and seen all the positives that he preached about it. The reason
this did not happen and they faced some humiliation in 2008 until 2010 were due to GE Capital.
Immelt thought that they were diversified enough to survive the economic downturn. However
this proved to be wrong. In an interview for BusinessWeek magazine David Magee, author of Jeff

I agree with what the analysts have said and that the most important thing for GE is to get their
stock prices back up. Immelt is trying to do so without selling GE Capital. I believe that in order
to get their prices back up they need to downsize GE Capital and have less money tied up in
assets that are in this very volatile market, especially real estate. This will help build confidence
in investors that they will not see huge losses if the economy takes another turn for the worst.
Until that happens I do not see GE getting back on track with Immelt s plans of growth and
profit. 2. GE s corporate strategy is one of moderate to high level of diversification. More

their product or service in a different part of the company. By having all of these differentiated
industries working together under the name of GE they have been very successful company. Now

Internal And External SWOT Analysis Of AT A Company
External SWOT/EFE. The SWOT analysis is a tool for evaluating a company s internal and external
environments in which they operates. The AT T external environment analysis using the SWOT
model reviews specific opportunities and threats that are external and beyond the control of the
telecommunication giant.
Opportunities. Industry Consolidation. The avenue for further business consolidation has acted as
a major opportunity for AT T to grow and diversify revenue. Evidently, AT T has made numerous
industry consolidation efforts including the DIRECTV acquisition and the vertical integration
through the set Time Warner acquisition (Nicholas, 2017). Such consolidation efforts have the
potential for reducing the churn rate and offering unique value propositions, such as bundled
offerings, and motivating cost efficiencies in content right negotiations and revenue synergies.
Wireless growth. The increasing consumer switch to wireless only is another opportunity for AT T
to grow its customer base. Recently, AT T has witnessed signals of a growing consumer postpaid
base in the wireless segment as it saw an increase in its post paid consumer base by 102,000 and its

Qatar the Tiny Giant of Southwest Asia
Southwest Asia is a region of conflict; many of the countries maintain power through military
superiority and dominance. Many governments and regimes have risen to power but only to
collapse due to the constant conflict in the region. This is why it has been important for
governments and regimes to maintain a strong military to keep order in the region. However, one
small country, Qatar does not maintain dominance through military superiority. Despite being one
of the smallest countries and having a minimal military Qatar has become a major influence and
power though means of economic and political influence in Southwest Asia. When most countries

Greek Mythology Importance
What is mythology? Greek mythology has been around ever since there were Greeks to tell them.
This started at around 1900 BC and ended at approximately 146 BC when the romans conquered
the Greeks. Because the Greeks were so old they didn t know much about earth such as why there
is night and day, why there are different seasons, why there is lightning and many other things. So
they used Mythology to explain these things. In those day s Greek mythologywas a little like
Christianity in that some people believed while others didn t believe.
What is the importance of Greek mythology? Greek mythology was very important to the Greeks
way back in those days because it was how they explained natural events. For example, they used
Greek mythology to explain how the humans were made, what happens to them when they die and
how the earth came to be. But these days there is more scientific ways of knowing these things. For
example, Christians believe God created humans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Book Clotel Or The President s Daughter
In the novel Clotel or The President s Daughter, Williams Wells Brown s use of irony as Europe,
particularly France, as a pivotal setting for the liberation of African Americans from the bondage of
slavery, by virtue of its political and social demeanor, contrasted from the United States of America.
In the Letter Exchange between Benjamin Banneker and Thomas Jefferson, Banneker s letter
reinforces the situational irony when he argues, Sir, suffer me to recall to your mind that time in
which the arms and tyranny of the British crown were exerted with every powerful effort in order
to reduce you to a state of servitude (253). Thus, this citation reminds Jefferson of his and his
country s origin. The Letters of Exchange and scenes from the novel dramatize the oppression of
enslaved African Americans while acknowledging the irony by assessing the persisting gap
between America s founding principles and the ruthless existence of slavery.
The publication of Clotel in London in 1853 is the first indication of irony, by assessing the
persisting gap between freedom in Europe and the ruthless existence of slavery in America.
Furthermore, it indicates to the reader African American status in U.S. culture. To begin, allow us
discuss Thomas Jefferson, father of American Independence and a father of slave children. A free
African American, Benjamin Banneker, contested the racialist views offered in Notes on the State

Blood Doping Essay
Blood doping and EPO use by elite athletes is an unprofessional way of making their way to the
top . Athlete s bodies are affected by the use of these additional cells and can have a major
outcome on how they perform in the long run future. This is an illegal act by athletes and can
majorly effect the body and its homeostasis. says Savannah Rhind. The tiny gap between winning
and losing has led athletes to look for what they call marginal gains, whether that comes from extra
sleep, better equipment, or even cheating (David Epstein, 2015). Blood doping is described as an
injection containing oxygenated blood that is injected into an athlete for the sake of sports
competitions and enhancing athlete s performances. So how does it affect... Show more content on

Homeostasis also improves how the body adapts to training for competitions. Athletes may lift
weights with the desire to get stronger, but that s not what motivates the athlete s body. Lifting
weights damages muscles, which causes homeostatic stress. Enough damage to that muscle will
cause the body to react by imaginatively saying I don t like this damage so I m going to form the
muscle back bigger and stronger. That way, the next time this stressor is thrown at me, I can
homeostatically handle it. (Trevor Connor, 2014).
But, how does the body accomplish the perfect equilibrium? Well hormones play the part of this
role. Sensors in the body can detect any imbalanced pathway in the body and tells the brain to
release the appropriate hormones that is needed to restore a balanced pathway again. Once the
stressor is gone, the hormones break down. The basic feedback loop diagram below represents
how our bodies are able to reach homeostasis after a stressor occurs and what happens if they occur

And then, on an impulse, she turned and ran into the cottage, up to her room, to the bureau drawer
where she had hidden Jesse s bottle the bottle of water from the spring. In a moment she was back

Bias In 12 Angry Men
The movie 12 Angry Men, directed by Sidney Lumet, introduces twelve jury members each one
coming from a different background. The experiences and personalities of these men play a
critical element in the first majority vote in deciding the verdict of guilty or not guilty. Juror #3,
#10, and #11 were very influential in that their opinions and thoughts on the case were
determined by their own personal bias. Therefore, a person s behavior, opinions, and thoughts are
reflected on how that person feels on the inside. Juror #3 is against the boy that is being tried and
very biased towards him; this results in how he acts during the meeting and what his thoughts are
regarding the case. This bias is due to an argument he had with his own son who punched him in

I hate tough kids! You work your heart out. We can get a lot from this juror in that he condemns
teenagers and has resentment towards them. Since the boy was born and raised in the bad part
of the city, it gave Juror #3 more reason to vote guilty because he is biased against people who
live in the slums. Juror #10 divides and segregates people stereotypically into them and us . Us
being middle class or rich people living in the city, and them being poor people or of a different
skin color or race, born and raised in the slums. Since the boy lived in such a place he was
obviously a victim to violence and crime so, Juror #10 was biased against him from the
beginning. Also, the boy being Hispanic placed him on the discriminatory list of what makes a
criminal. This is further proven when juror #10 says: They don t need any real big reason to kill
someone, either. You know, they get drunk, and bang, someone s lying in the gutter... most of

the article means that the population of The West Indian Manatee is far below average. The
population is expected to decline by a rate of at least 10% over the next three generations. This is
mainly due to human influence and loss of habitat. The same article goes on to state, Threats to the

A Nation Is A Nation By Ernest Renan
Ernest Renan, in his classic essay What is a Nation , excluded religion, race, material interests,
language, military necessity and even geography as suitable answers to his question. As an
alternative, he argues, a nation is a spiritual principle, the outcome of the profound complications of
history (quoted in Mehta, 1999, p. 187). In Ernest s remark, more than anything else, the spiritual
principle included a specific outlook toward a shared history. In this case, a nationis fundamentally
founded on the possession of memories and a shared past. This is evident, as I have observed, in the
Baloch nationalist movement in Pakistan, where the Baloch justify their distinctive national

Nationalism can make a group fight fiercely for establishing its own sovereignty and could lead it
to rule, that in itself does not reveal which of these nationalisms is ought to rule. Ultimately, the
number of distinctive cultures and potential nationalisms are going to extinct, or become
assimilated in the sea of the nation state (Gellner, 2008, pp. 42 43). For Gellner, it is irrational to
hold nationalism responsible for being forceful in homogenizing a people through its agencies
which is under the command of nationalist movements. Instead, it is the typical prerequisite for
nationalism as an educated, culturally standardized, exchange capable and transportable population
is what modern industrial states must have to operate successfully. In the light of the above, the
main weakness of nationalism is that only a very small fraction of nationalisms attain their goals

Chaucer Characters In Canterbury Tales
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales General Prologue , 29 pilgrims plan to journey
from London to Canterbury and back to worship at the shrine of St. Thomas a Beckett,
Maryland. Each pilgrim agreeing to tell two stories on the way there and two stories on the way
back. Amongst these character s in the General Prologue we have three estates that separate
them called the; Aristocrats, Clergy, and the Workers, each responsible for their own duties. In
the following paragraphs we will be focusing more on the estate of the Aristocrats than that of
the other estates. The estate of the Aristocrats who are uniquely made up of the Sergeant at Law,
the Franklin, the Doctor of Medicine, his Pharmacists, and the honorable Knight. Taking a look
at and evaluating how the majorities actions, dress, and behavior within the prologue reflect
how they are hypocritical to the value of their estate. While only one character truly adheres to
those values of their estate and is thus worthy of respect. The first of many of these hypocrites
that we run into is the Sergeant at Law who rather than adhering to the oath of the aristocrats of
upholding justice and protecting the weak, prey s on those who are in trouble. Seizing the land
of those who were below him and having nobody even question him of his suspicious actions as

A free market is a system where there is no government intervention in the business activities. A

One of the factors affecting the demand of a product is the price per unit of the product. A high
price per unit of the product leads to a decrease in the demand of the product. Secondly, the price
of other related products which include the complement and the substitutes also affects the demand
of a product. (Backhouse, 2005) Thirdly, the buyers income is another factor which affects his
decision to demand a good or a service. The more income the consumer has meant that his demand
for a product is also high. However, mainstream economist argues that demand is affected by the
price of the product alone. As the price of a product increase, the willingness of the consumers to
buy the product decreases. (Sheehan, 2010) Basically, a high price of a product leads to a decrease
in the demand of the product. As the price of the product continues to increase, the consumer may
opt to switch to consumption of the other substituting product. As the price of the commodity
decreases, the demand of the product increases because the product becomes more affordable and it

the missionaries to Nigeria affected the the Ibo culture and introduced its people to a new set of
religious beliefs and westernized customs. Chinua Achebe s novel, Things Fall Apart, portrays the
contrasting reactions of people to the new culture brought to their clan by the missionaries. Achebe

It was not the mad logic of the Trinity that captivated him. He did not understand it. It was the

darkness and in fear seem to answer a vague and persistent question that haunted his young soul
the question of the twins crying in the bush and the question of Ikemefuna who was killed.

success. I will outline what measures of success are impacted by the application of HR practices
and explain how HR strategies affect operational, functional, and business strategies. I will use
research to show the link that ties long term business success to effective people management
practices. Before I move into these elements it is important to understand what criteria is used to
select the best places to work, what criteria is used to select Fortune s Most Admired Companies,
and how top domestic and international organizations leverage their HR strategy to help them
maintain long term success. Let s dive into some of those questions in... Show more content on

Employees must trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the
people they work with (Wehner, 2015). This trust is established through management
creditability, employees feeling respected, and the extent that employee s expect to be treated
fairly. Additional criteria from the employee s perspective is the level of camaraderie employees
feel. From a manger s perspective a great place to work is one in which they achieve
organizational objectives by inspiring, speaking, and listening with employees who give their
personal best by thanking, developing, and caring and work together as a team/family by hiring,
celebrating, and sharing in an environment of trust (Wehner, 2015). This is the Great Place to
Work model. This model serves as a guide and these standards relate to HR practices and have
helped establish lessons learned for developing HR strategy and practices. Companies are finding
that in order to establish a great place to work you have to focus on culture because ultimately trust
breeds from the atmosphere and attitude established in your organization and strong culture is
formed when that atmosphere is one that values the people who perform the work. There are
certain areas where great workplaces stand out above the rest. The criteria from the Great Place to
Work Institute has brought focus on what successful companies do to manage their workforce and
image. They hire well and understand

The Life of Emperor Nero Essay
Emperor Nero, infamously known as one of the most malevolent, oppressive, and tyrannical
leader throughout history, was the last ruler of the Julio Claudian Dynasty. He was born outside
Rome in Antium and his mother married his great uncle, Emperor Claudius, in order for her son
to be the next Emperor of Rome. It wasn t apparent that her son was to become one of the most
feared and cruel leaders in Roman history from 54 CE to 68 CE. By examining his achievements
and failures as an emperor, his influences and changes over the entire economic, political and social
spectrum are revealed.
At this stage in the Roman Empire things were extremely dangerous and many power struggles
within the royal family were arising. With the demise of the ... Show more content on

He had all the attributes of an ideal leader, and the Roman Empire experienced an epoch of
strength, efficient administration and economic stability. His policies were beneficial for the
working class and poor and when the senate tried to pass a law regarding patrons having the right
to repeal freedom of a freedman, he quickly denied the request. Other economic reforms included
the tax cuts of approximately three percent, because there were complaints of over taxation of the
poor. The more oppressive sources of revenue he either abolished or moderated (Suetonius, 263) He
also reduced the price of food by dropping tariffs on imported products such as grain. This allowed
economics to flourish throughout the Roman Empire and he created a much more fair system that
actually was used to aid the populace. It gave the people security and Rome thrived with it new
institutional structures, stability, and its governmental reforms that efficiently worked. The
positive influence Nero had on Rome gave him popular support from the masses.
As Emperor Nero continued to rule new speculation formed that his mother was planning to
overthrow him with his brother Britannicus who was the actual son of Emperor Claudius. This is
because as his mother

Gandalf the Mischiefmonger Essay
If people tried to make an argument that J.R.R. Tolkien didn t used Norse mythology as a
backbone structure when writing The Hobbit in 1937, they would be without a doubt completely
wrong. Many creatures were pulled straight from the Norse myths and thrown into his famous
story, but did he use some of the Norse gods as structures for his characters as well? In the book
The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, he states that Gandalf is seen almost as an Odinic Wanderer ,
comparing him to Odinthe Allfather (Carpenter, C. Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien). Rather than Odin,
though, another almost unlikely god could fit the part of Gandalf s basis, and that would be the
trickster god, Loki, son of Laufey and Farbauti. Loki, without a doubt, would be an... Show more

They demand that he uses his not so noble tricks to return the goddess, along with her cherished
apples. Gandalf is not an outright liar, though he does slightly bend the truth throughout the story.
He is the reason that Bilbo is referred to as the burglar, as he puts the sign on the Hobbit s door
himself. Gandalf told the throng If I say he is a burglar, a burglar he is, or will be... (Tolkien 49).
His intentions for lying are more beneficial than Loki s reasons, though he is still manipulating
the idea of Bilbo being a burglar, convincing Thorin and Co. that Bilbo has experience with
thieving. Before they take off for their long journey, Thorin says to Bilbo, Aren t you the
burglar? And isn t sitting on the doorstep your job, not speak of getting inside the door? His
words show that he has some form of faith in Gandalf s white lie about the hobbit being a thief,
even though Bilbo had never stolen anything in his life. Both Gandalf and Loki are gifted with
magical abilities, and they rely their magic as well as their wit to solve their problems. In the
myth The Building of Asgard s Wall , the builder (or rock giant), offered to build a wall around
Asgard and for his payment, he wanted Freyja s hand in marriage, along with both the sun and the
moon. Odin turned to Loki for a plan, and he suggested to give the builder six months rather than
the eighteen months that he originally demanded. The builder agreed to the terms, with one
condition his steed is allowed to

  • 2. Postman On Education Summary Postman finds ways that god s (narratives like myths) contributes to education. He mentions that Public education does not serve a public. It creates a public. And in creating the right kind of public, the schools contribute toward strengthening the spiritual basis of the American Creed. The right answer depends on two things, and two things alone: the existence of shared narratives and the capacity of such narratives to provide an inspired reason for schooling,,. At its best, schooling can be about how to make a life, which is quite different from how to make a living. I choose these quotes because it refers to the modern educationwhich arise a problem that most students do not have a motivating reason to be enthusiastic in their education. However the speaker s has negative opinion of the existing education system moreover it fails to involve and prepare young people for the challenges of the real world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first one is the engineering side, most young people get education through this category. • 25. Analysis Of The Book Clotel Or The President s Daughter In the novel Clotel or The President s Daughter, Williams Wells Brown s use of irony as Europe, particularly France, as a pivotal setting for the liberation of African Americans from the bondage of slavery, by virtue of its political and social demeanor, contrasted from the United States of America. In the Letter Exchange between Benjamin Banneker and Thomas Jefferson, Banneker s letter reinforces the situational irony when he argues, Sir, suffer me to recall to your mind that time in which the arms and tyranny of the British crown were exerted with every powerful effort in order to reduce you to a state of servitude (253). Thus, this citation reminds Jefferson of his and his country s origin. The Letters of Exchange and scenes from the novel dramatize the oppression of enslaved African Americans while acknowledging the irony by assessing the persisting gap between America s founding principles and the ruthless existence of slavery. The publication of Clotel in London in 1853 is the first indication of irony, by assessing the persisting gap between freedom in Europe and the ruthless existence of slavery in America. Furthermore, it indicates to the reader African American status in U.S. culture. To begin, allow us discuss Thomas Jefferson, father of American Independence and a father of slave children. Athlete s bodies are affected by the use of these additional cells and can have a major outcome on how they perform in the long run future. This is an illegal act by athletes and can majorly effect the body and its homeostasis. says Savannah Rhind. The tiny gap between winning and losing has led athletes to look for what they call marginal gains, whether that comes from extra sleep, better equipment, or even cheating (David Epstein, 2015). Athletes may lift weights with the desire to get stronger, but that s not what motivates the athlete s body. Lifting weights damages muscles, which causes homeostatic stress. Enough damage to that muscle will cause the body to react by imaginatively saying I don t like this damage so I m going to form the muscle back bigger and stronger. That way, the next time this stressor is thrown at me, I can homeostatically handle it. (Trevor Connor, 2014). But, how does the body accomplish the perfect equilibrium? Well hormones play the part of this role. Sensors in the body can detect any imbalanced pathway in the body and tells the brain to release the appropriate hormones that is needed to restore a balanced pathway again. Once the stressor is gone, the hormones break down. The basic feedback loop diagram below represents how our bodies are able to reach homeostasis after a stressor occurs and what happens if they occur again, this cycle is important for our bodies to function ...
