The Pros and Cons of Nationalism Essay example
Nationalism at its core is the support of a country. The goal of a country is to have some
sort of resonance within the individuals that reside there that call themselves citizens. If
the citizens don t feel any connection with their country, they may move to find one that
they feel closer too. Once found, they may support the country over others, defend it
within conversations of politics or just find groups that have the same ideals they do
about the country. This papers purpose is to illustrate the pros of nationalism as well as
its cons.
Beginning with America, there is a strong sense of nationalism. Being called patriotic
would signify you support America and the ideals the flag stands for. It has many
meanings to every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Great evidence of this is in Germany s history. Although repeated quite often as an
example of radical nationalism, this doesn t remove it from being a true and sad
example of nationalism in its worst form. The central leaders of Germany including
Hitler instituted anti Jew laws and once they were certain that the public agreed with
these, or at least didn t disagree, started implementing much more extreme laws against
the Jewish people. This created one of the worst genocides in the history of mankind.
(Krome, 2010) What Hitler did, was take the dislike of Jews that the Muslims helped
establish (Maghen, 2009) (Jeffrey, n.d.) , along with Christianity that the Jews were a
problem (Callahan, 2004). Having these to point to, he directed an entire nation to
become his Aryan race, and Jews weren t alone. Blacks and all other races and religions
or creeds were included in the category of being removed, but it was largely the Jewish
population affected.
In short, nationalism is both good and bad. It seems to block rational behavior and
logical thinking to be replaced by radical support for a cause. When it s functioning
well, it allows the citizens of a country to unite with each other and share a common
interest. Unfortunately this is hard to govern, and it seems to be directed by government
bodies and religion. Radical support can go either way, for or against any topic. Middle

Every Piece Of Work Has Various Elements Of Art Within
Every piece of work has various elements of art within them, making them complete.
Elements of a piece govern and manipulate the tone and overall message being conveyed.
In Nunavut, Canada, Janelle Budgell designed an anti drinking campaign that was
released in 2014 to raise awareness of International FASD Awareness Day (Fetal Alcohol
Spectrum Disorder). The campaign consisted of a silhouette of a pregnant woman
consuming alcohol with a distress fetus. Budgell purposely integrated various elements
into the campaign to capture viewers attention such as the red background with
contrasting white and black text. Even though there was not a lot of text, the audience
can affiliate the elements with the intended denotation and analyze the... Show more

The main message was clear, concise, and complete; Pregnant women should never drink
alcohol.
The ad consists of a silhouette of a pregnant woman and an unborn child. In the
campaign, the pregnant woman is seen consuming an alcoholic beverage that goes
directly to the child. The consumption of alcohol has been generically known to be a risk
factor for the health of the child and the mother. Prenatal exposure to alcohol has been
known to affect the physical and mental development of the unborn child. Physical and
mental effects such as, but not limited to birth defects, growth problems, learning and
behavior problems, and sometimes miscarriage or still born (WebMD). The underlying
question is how much alcohol is safe for consumption for those who are pregnant? There
is not a distinct amount of alcohol that pregnant women can consume that is considered
safe . Therefore, no consumption of alcohol is highly recommended as a precaution.
Alcohol is not the only contributing factor causing a negative effect on a child s
development, but rather a part of the underlying problem.
At the top of the image, Baby or the Bottle is white letters with a black background. The
contrast between white and black allowed the text to be bold and legible enough to grab
the viewer s attention. Looking closely, Baby has a larger font than the other words on
the campaign. The usage
Mark Twain Satire Analysis
Mark Twain s Satire
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name, Mark Twain, was a
renowned writer and humorist in American literature. Twains most famous and well
known pieces are The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin and The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer. Throughout most of Twains writings he primarily used a form of humor known
as satire. The definition of this literary device used by Twain is The use of humorous
exaggeration and irony to expose people s failings and stupidity (Satire, 2017). Usually,
humor plays a role in making people laugh, which makes it easier to break the ice and
for satirical writing to reach its targets. To make it more effective to change society, Mark
Twain used satire, which is a literary manner of denouncing, criticizing and laughing at
the foibles, crimes or vices of a person or society, with the aim of correcting them (Mark
Twain Satirical Approach, 2017). Mark Twain used his satirical writing style to convey,
criticize, and poke fun at the flaws in society prevalent at the time.
Born the sixth child in the Clemens family, Samuel was born on November 30, 1835 in
Missouri. During the time period of Samuels birth, Missouri was considered a fairly new
state. The Clemens family resided on the banks of the Mississippi River which later on
became an ironic setting throughout many of Twains books. The Mississippi River is
one of the longest Rivers in the United States and the fourth largest river in the world.

Analysis Of The Article Advertising s Twenty Basic...
Paintings aren t as interesting as they used to be. Paintings became popular during the
Renaissance era (14th century 17th century). Artists express their thoughts and emotions
through their paintings. Paintings give off many messages, and the message someone
receives correlates with their mindset. For example, the paintingof the Last Supper, if
viewers don t have the mindset of a Christian then they would think everyone is mad at
the guy in the middle (Jesus). Paintings are all about perception and what the viewers can
take from the image mentally.
In the article Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals , Jib Fowles gives the meaning of
affiliation in advertisement. Fowles states, the need to associate with others is widely
invoked in advertising (para. 18). Advertisers use this technique when they want the
viewers to get involved. An artist may paint an image of a happily married couple, and
this may make a single man want to be affiliated with women. Painters use this technique
to bring people together.
Also, Fowles breaks down the need to escape in advertisement. Fowles claims that
advertisement gives the viewers the need to escape when we have a desire to duck out
of our obligations (para. 52). When life becomes too oppressive we tend to seek for
freedom. Many advertisements will show an image of people who is having the time of
their life to try to target people who are at a low stage in life. Artists use
transcendentalism in their paintings that make people want to
Reflection Of The Classroom Environment
Classroom Environment.
As I connect back to my ontological commitment of transferring knowledge for the sake
of building a foundation that can carry students through to graduation, I focus on how I
can determine why I believe the classroom environment is critical to me. Perhaps it goes
back to my positionality, where I truly believe that everyone has a right to learn and grow
and that knowledge is the key to success in anything. As a lifelong learner, when I
encountered difficulties transferring knowledge to students, I worked to develop intricate
ways of teaching complicated material. In some instances, it meant changing the
environment altogether, which is perhaps the reason I am a strong proponent for active
learning classrooms.
In my last qualitative course, I had the opportunity to interview and observe faculty in
both types of settings a traditional classroom and an active learning classroom. I gained
valuable insight on why teachers using ALCs seemed to thrive and truly engage with
students. The flexibility an ALC environment provides for both faculty and students
connects back to the theoretical framework of student centered learning and discovery
learning theories. My goal in using qualitative inquiry is to determine a better
understanding of the successes and challenges in using an ALC because converting
classrooms to more modern environments is costly and not many schools have the
funding for it (Walker, Brooks, Baepler, 2011). If we can publish more
Essay on War on Terror
On september 11, 2001 there was an attack on America. Four airplanes were hijacked,
two were crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the third crashed into
the Pentagon in D.C. and the fourth got stopped by a passenger. It was the first terrorist
attack on the U.S. soil. Thousands of lives were lost that day. This attach was the most
devastating act of belligerence on U.S territory since the Civil War (Terrorism, 2011).
This even had an enormous influence on America and its history. It led to numerous short
and long term effects. On September 20, 2001, former president George W. Bush
announced publicly that he declares War on Terror . After this announcement, our

TSA is able to open and search passenger s luggage for security screening, not many
people like this ability. In some cases the agents don t replace the locks or close them
properly. TSA has two companies make different kinds of locks that can be opened
and relocked by special tools and information by the manufacturer. A positive side to
this note is that if a passengers TSA approved lock is missing they can file a claim
with form SF 95. (Security, 2010) People get irritated by this, because no one wants
people going through their personal belongings. Despite the fact that this is a simple
way to detect if someone is carrying a bomb, any other type of explosives or anything
else that could be dangerous boarding a plane.
In the beginning of November 2010 TSA added new screening procedures. The new
screening procedures were created because of the reactions of the Underwear bomber
. That person smuggled plastic explosives onto and airplane in December 2009. These
procedures include the backscatter X ray and the sliding pat downs. The backscatter
X ray displays images of passenger s bodies. During sliding pat downs officers screen
passenger s breast, buttocks and genitals with the back of their hand. All pat downs are
done by a TSA officer of same gender of that passenger. And if requested the procedure
can be done in a private room. On November 23, 2010 TSA officials said that some U.S

Limitations Of Women s Rights
Limitations on Women s Rights in the United States
Pregnancy termination is a controversial and sensitive subject that has sparked many
debates in the past five decades. It is a two sided issue between life and death of the
unborn child. Planned Parenthood (2017) reports that 30 percent of women in the United
States terminate a pregnancy before reaching 45 years of age. Abortion has been legal in
the United States since Roe V. Wade
; a 1973 landmark decision held that the Fourteenth
Amendment s right to personal privacy covered the woman s choice to carry a child or
not. Republican Administrations such as those of Former Presidents Ronald Raegan and
George W. Bushhave been tough on abortion rights and sparked anti abortion movements

With Clinton canceling the bill in the early nineties, President Bush later reintroduced it,
adding more elements. The Bush Administration added still more teeth to the global gag
rule, prohibiting funding of any group that promotes or advocates legalization and
practice of prostitution and sex trafficking (Garrett 2017). Early into Obama s First 100
days, President Obama rescinded it again. There is a pattern between liberal and
conservative beliefs/actions and the Gag Rule. Garrett has noted that evidence from
research shows increase abortion rates under the bill. However, abortions rates were
significantly lower under Obama s administration due to women having access to
contraceptive options, sex education and most importantly the right to make decisions in
reproductive planning. Recently, President Trump has announced his position on the
Mexico City Policy and is leaning towards reinstating it, despite the statistics on increases
in abortions it has happen over time (Garrett 2017).
Effects on the Black Woman and Community. Trump has switched his stance on abortion
since announcing his run for president. Once pro choice, he has recently exposed a
different side, from pledging to employ an anti abortion litmus test for his Supreme Court

Analysis Of Henry D. Thoreau s Resistance To Civil
Government
Henry D. Thoreau s original paper Resistance to Civil Government, traces his perspective
of the relationship between the state and the person. The exposition was accelerated by
Thoreau s own demonstration of common rebellion in which he declined to pay survey
charges to an administration that was the slaves government also . Thoreau s protection
of his activities on good and philosophical grounds has enlivened the activities of a
significant number of history s most striking figures, including Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. of the American Civil Rights Movement. Thoreau s paper opens by characterizing the
reason for government saying that ...at its best it is an expedient by the end of the day,

This idea establishes the framework for Thoreau s contention that the individual, a
subject by decision, require not, and should not, relinquish his or her still, small voice
to the state s will. This point is fortified by the way that the state is irreverent and
effortlessly controlled. Essentially, the singular s heart ought not be quieted by the
greater part, usually considered the power in a vote based system, as since the majority
share rules of quality of numbers as opposed to the inner voice. The principle objective
of the Civil Rights Movement was to instate correspondence under the law. King was a
nonentity for the Civil Rights Movement. Kings capacity to compose groups into a drive
that was unaffected by savagery enormously added to the accomplishment of the Civil
Rights Movement. In a letter he composed from a Birmingham correctional

Because online education is based on information technology, students, teachers, and
colleges are requested to have personal computers, or other electronic devices. First of
all, students will end up bearing the losses once these devices malfunction such as the
computer crash. According to Healy, Block, and Judge (2014), there were many
students who had trouble with technical issues in online education, and these technical
issues severely impact their learning. Online education over dependent on electronic
devices, but it is impossible to guarantee that every student can have an appropriate
device and there will be no fault with it. Kingsley Hughes (2014) reports that the cash
rate of IOS was about 3.56 percent. Moreover, the Microsoft windows 7 cashed 7.1
times monthly on average (TWCN, 2012). These data show that the breakdown is not
rare in most electronic devices required by online education, so technology issues were
identified as a disadvantage to online education by a few of the participants . Moreover,
the requirement online education might discriminate against the students in poverty

computer and smart phone, which can be hardly afforded by some poor students. For

The Mystery of the Lost Colony
For centuries the disappearance of the Roanoke colonists has been one of the great
mysteries in the historical community. Within the span of three years, 120 colonists
disappeared from an English colony on Roanoke Island, a small piece of land off the
coast of North Carolina. The evidence left behind barely gives us a clue as to what could
have happened to the entire colony. With the testimony of John White, the leader of the
colony that left the settlement to get more supplies, and what little evidence there is,
there have been many theories as to what actually caused the disappearance. When trying
to make a logical conclusion about the disappearance of the 120 inhabitants of the colony
at Roanoke, there are many factors to consider.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The purpose of this overtly hostile action was to obtain information from the chief about
the defensive capabilities of the surrounding Indian nations. This action only served to
alienate the tribe and force the settlers to depend on the fruits of their own labors... within
months the first Roanoke colony was in disarray and the settlers were near starving
(Croatoan).
The colony barely lasted until Sir Francis Drake s fleet sailed by in 1586 when Drake
offered supplies or a trip back to their homeland. The settlers, starving and homesick,
quickly accept the offer and return to England. Not even a week later a relief ship
arrives with supplies to discover the settlement abandoned. The supply ship left fifteen
men with a reasonable amount of food before departing (The Settlement). Raleigh s
first colony was an instructive test run for a second, more planned effort. He
determined that if the colony was relocated 80 miles north in the Chesapeake Bay
shipping would be essentially easier. He also decided to reconfigure the core of the
colony by allowing seventeen women, nine children, and two ex convicts under their new
leader. John White was the expeditionary artist during Lane s colony and
The Effect Of Velashape Cellulite On The Body
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Dallas, Texas) ABCNews.com recently reported that cellulite affects 90 percent of
women at one time or another in their lives, even those who are in great shape and
remain at a healthy weight. This common problem arises when fat deposits in the body
make their way through connective tissue under the skin, and maybe the results of
hormonal issues, inadequate muscle tone and exercise, excess fat and/or poor circulation.
Laserium Med Spa now offers VelaShape Cellulite Reduction for individuals wishing to
remove these unsightly bumps.
VelaShape helps to improve the texture of the patient s skin, while targeting localized fat
deposits and reducing the appearance of cellulite. VelaShape remains the only device
currently cleared by the FDA for reducing cellulite and firming the skin, and it effectively
slims, shapes and contours the body. Patients begin to see results following the initial
treatment, although they are most apparent six to eight weeks after treatment is
complete, Kira Gill, spokesperson for Laserium Med Spa, announces. ... Show more

the deterioration of connective tissue. All can lead to the appearance of
The War Plan For South Korea
North and South Korea, which have technically been at war for the last 65 years, are
again acting like it. (npr.org) They ve always been fighting each other, and this is
another one of their battles. It all started when there was an explosive from landmines in
the DMZ, which is the sort of de facto border that separates North and South Korea,
which injured two South Korean soldiers that the South has blamed on North Koreabut,
of course, North Korea has not apologized for. (npr.org) That angered South Korea which
lead them to start anti North propaganda broadcasting through loudspeakers.
Consequently, both sides have been arguing at the DMZ. Then, everything was settled
when both sides made an agreement; however, no one really knows what Kim Jong Un
will do. As a result, the United Statesare hesitant, so the top U.S. commanders reviewed
the U.S. war plan for defending South Korea in case there was a sudden indication that
North Korea was going to begin a war. (cnn.com) They are on the watch for movement
for activation of air defences and artilleries. Currently, South Korea is low on
missionary materials to fight North Korea, so South Korea is going to need the U.S. s
help. North Korea has half a million more armed forces, 10,000 more artillery pieces, a
thousand more tanks, and etc. This can be very dangerous for South Korea if North
attacks. It can also be dangerous if U.S. helps South Korea meaning North Korea can
attack U.S. Immigration has

Mechanisms for mRNA Degradation
Messenger RNA (mRNA) is extremely important in expression of protein coding genes.
mRNA molecules contain the genetic code for synthesis of particular polypeptides
during translation. (Lewin s Genes XI, 624) Messenger RNAs are unstable molecules
due to the fact that cells have ribonucleases. These ribonucleases can specifically target
mRNA molecules in the cytoplasm. There are two types of ribonucleases.
Endoribonucleases cut the center of the RNAs, and exoribonuleases detach the ends of
RNAs. (Lewin s Genes XI, 625) The stability of mRNA is essential in controlling gene
expression. Less stable RNAs are more likely to undergo changes in transcriptionrates,
and the more stable RNAs are able to go through translation for longer periods of time.
(Lewin s Genes XI, 626)
There are several pathways in which mRNAs are degraded. However, the two most
common pathways are deadenylation dependent. This means that the degradation
process is originated by breaching their protective poly(A) tail. The new poly(A) tail
produced is covered in poly(A) binding proteins (PABP). Certain poly(A) nucleases
catalyze the steady shortening of the poly(A) tail as it enters the cytoplasm. The PAN2
/3 complex originally shortens the poly(A) tail. Then, CCR4 NOT complex degrades the
rest of the poly(A) tail more quickly, only leaving 10 to 12 bases remaining. (Lewin s
Genes XI, 629 30)
The first of the two common pathways is the 5 to 3 pathway. First, decapping enzymes

The Discovery Of Fossilized Hyoid Bones
By 0.6 Mya, H. heidelbergensis appeared. Likely an ancestor of our own species, their
fossils have been found with the remnants of large, butchered animals and hand axes
suggesting a good degree of tool usage. It is unknown whether or not they actively
hunted the large animals that they hunted, but the prolifacy of these butchering sites
would suggest that Heidelbergensis was able to have consistent access to these large
carcasses. Examination of fossilized hyoid bones in Heidelbergensis indicates that they
were also capable of making the nuanced sounds required for speech (MartГnez I, et. al.).
Their easy access to food and fire probably came in handy during the Kansan glacial
period, which lasted from 0.46 to 0.30 Mya. It was during this icy period that the
lineages of Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis finally split from that of H.
heidelbergensis and begin to truly hunt for their food.
As the ice thaws, Homo neanderthalensis and Homo rhodesiensis first appear.
Neanderthals were stockier than modern humans, standing at about 160 cm. They likely
possessed a pale complexion and reddish hair (indicated by sequencing the genetics of
the bones of two particularly well preserved specimens), which allowed them to produce
the large amounts of Vitamin D needed to survive in their primarily northern European
habitats (O Neil). Rhodesiensis, on the other hand, likely a human ancestor, showed
features consistent with a mix between heidelbergensis and H. sapiens, including an

Documentaries film making can never be values neutral

Media is so powerful that many people in business and politics have long realised that
documentary filmmaking is a powerful way to influence or persuade the masses as to
which side they should take on certain issues. Although the media claim their
documentaries to be neutral, subjectivity is always an issue. Like any form of
communication, including journalism, documentary filmmaking involves interpretation
and choice making on the part of the filmmaker, and is therefore unavoidably subjective.

Sigmund Freud And Karl Marx And Christianity
Religion has existed in some form or another for centuries, and has been a cornerstone
in the study of human history. It has the extraordinary power to create, destroy, and
influence our every action. Therefore, the nature of religion has caused it to become the
center of controversies and contentions. As a result, it has led to a plethora of scholars,
and individuals alike to question whether religion been a force of the Holy , or ?
However, there are several instances where religion has been harmful. Christianityin the
Middle Ages, and even during the early modern period, for example, is plagued with
instances of being harmful. Furthermore, many key thinkers have heavily criticized
Christianity, specifically thinkers such as Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud. Therefore,
in this paper, I will use the works of Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx to argue that
religion was used as a force of illusion and exploitation, as seen through Christianity
during the middle ages to the early modern period. Sigmund Freud was an influential
twentieth century think, most famously know for developing psychoanalysis. His ideas
had a lasting impact on the way we study the mind. His revelations further pushed the
discussions on a wide range of topics, including religion. However, his views on religion
was largely negative. To Freud, the formulation of religion was not from what individuals
considered true, but rather what they wanted to be true. In that sense, Freud had assessed
religion as being a
The Key Impacts Of Beeconomic
Beeconomic, launched by Karl Chong and Christopher Chong in 2010, with the deal
of the day concept in which they negotiate with merchants for a big deal on their
products or services (usually 50% or higher), and then Beeconomic will in return
promote merchants products or services on their site Groupon.com whereby
customers could buy the product at a discounted price within 24 hours, and the deal is
only valid if there is a minimum pre determined number of customers buying the
product, otherwise, the deal would be called off and neither company nor customers
could purchase of sell the product. Therefore, collective buying power is the key
factor driving the deal of the day concept. The idea of setting up Beeconomic was first
raised by Karl Chong who saw the potential in group buying site while working in
NYC, at that time the wind of group buying sites were blowing across US. After his
deliberate consideration and elaborate research, his brother, Chris, agreed to partner with
him in his endeavour, at the expense of deferring his studies on law in Australia, came to
Singapore to join him and they finally launched their company Beeconomic (Be

they may hold a second thought for their further collaboration with Groupon. With no
choice, Groupon has to find more ways to acquire additional earnings, one way can be
selling its data to merchants in exchange for money. It is not difficult for Groupon to
find enough data since it already has the largest database of daily deal users, selling all
these valuable data to merchants could also help them to better understand their ideal

Causes And Types Of Type 1 Diabetes
There are several different causes of Type 1 Diabetes. According to resources, the exact
cause in Type 1 diabetes is unknown. Possibly that is the immune system which fights
bad bacteria or viruses, and destroys the insulin in the pancreas, which leaves little or no
insulin after all. Instead of being transported into the cells, sugar builds up in the
bloodstream. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a special
hormone that is needed to convert sugar into daily needed energy. Insulin lowers the
amount of sugar in the bloodstream. Therefore that is not the same as type 2 diabetes. In
type 2 people make still make insulin, the illness and symptoms tend to develop
gradually. Sometimes diabetes can be caused by a malfunction in the pancreas or may
simply be an inherited disease, or some genetic factor. The pancreas produces insulin into
the bloodstream.
There are few ways to be diagnosed with diabetes. It can skip generations, like a first
relative of someone with type 1 diabetes has about 6 in 100 chance of developing it.
That is higher the general population. The reason behind that is certain people are more
prone to developing autoimmune diseases such as diabetes. According to Jdrf.com,
Type 1 diabetes was once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes. Type
1 is basically when the pancreas stops making insulin. In most cases type 1 is thought to
be an autoimmune disease. If a person has type 1 diabetes they may make antibiotics
Ethics, Kantian, And Aristotelian Theory
Buddhist ethics, although likened to some Western ethical theories, is not in fact the
same as those theories. The most common Western theories it is compared with are;
Utilitarianism, Kantian, and Aristotelian. Specifically, Utilitarianism does not address
the meaning of being a good person in its definition of right action. Kant does not
address the different classes as having different laws but believes in one set of universal
laws and Aristotle believes in the perfection of a self that does not exist in Buddhism.
These differences can be seen through the evaluation of how a person comes to a
decision about an ethical problem. The trolley cart problem presented by Philippa Foot.
The problem is making a decision between two options that both result in death. The
first option results in the death of one person but the saving of five people s lives. The
second option would result in the death of five people and the life of one. In the first
option you are consciously interfering with an event and changing that event in order to
save lives. In the second option your action is inaction, letting the event happen, and
letting the five people die while the one person lives. Using utilitarianism ethics, one
would come to the conclusion that you must intervene and save the lives of the five
people while sacrificing the life of one person. This is because Utilitarianism is
concerned with actions that produce the greatest good for the greatest number. Deciding
to kill the one
Los Angeles Lakers
The (9 34) Los Angeles Lakers face the (17 23) Sacramento Kings at the Staples Center
in the third game of their four game season series. The Lakers wasted a fast start (shot
74 percent from the field in the first quarter) and surprisingly competitive first half
before the Rockets turned up the heat defensively, dropped a nine 0 scoring run on the
purple and gold to start the third quarter en route to a 22 point lead in a 112 95 victory.
The Rockets sixth straight win against the Lakers sending the purple and gold into a
three game losing skid. However, the game provided some positives in addition to the
accompanying and omnipresent negatives.
As far as positives; Kobe Bryant had an assist on seven of the Lakers first 12 baskets,
passed Lakers legend, NBA Hall of Famer, the logo, Jerry West (6,238), landing in...

As far as negatives, the Rockets scored 50 or fewer points in the paint in their previous
11 games although the Lakers surrendered 70.
The Lakers lost their last two games against the Kings, outscored by 62 points (337
275). As a matter of fact in the Lakers last meeting with the Kings on January 6th at the
Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento the purple and gold played one of their better games of
the season.
The purple and gold down 25 4 five minutes into the game; trailed by as many as 27
prior to mounting an epic comeback. The inspired Lakers posted a 38 point third
quarter, outscored the Kings 29 16 in the fourth and led by one point after a tough D
Angelo Russell layup nearly completing the franchises third biggest comeback, based on
halftime deficit before falling 118 115.
In a tale of two halves of basketball, the Lakers outscored 69 48 in the first half, showed
a lot or grit, determination as well as resolve outscoring the Kings 67 49 in the second
half making the game a competitive
Achilles in The Illiad is not a Hero Essay
Achilles in The Illiad is not a Hero
In the introduction of the Essential Illiad given by Sheila Murnaghan, Achilles is
labeled as the greatest of the Greek heroes . In classic mythology a hero is a person of
great strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits and is often the offspring of a
mortal and a god. Achilles was the greatest fighter among the Greeks or Trojans and
feared no man in battle. He was also the offspring of a mortal and a god so by classic
mythology definition, Achilles was indeed a hero. A hero is defined by the present day
Websters Dictionary as: one who inspires through manners and actions; an individual
who leads through personal example and accomplishments requiring bravery, skill,
determination, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During that entire time, Achilles justification for wallowing in self pity is that he has
been dishonored . This argument becomes null and void when Agamemnon offers
lavish compensation for the affront. In addition to returning Briseis, Agamemnon offers
Achilles seven unfired tripods, ten gold bars, twenty burnished cauldrons, a dozen
horses, seven beautiful women from Lesbos, twenty Trojan women, his daughters hand
in marriage along with a rich dowry, and the ownership of seven populous cities. Any
reasonable person would have taken the offer but not prideful, bitter Achilles. Instead
he continues on with the same old rhetoric and refuses to fight. As if standing idly by
while his countrymen were being killed was not enough, Achilles has his mother call in
a favor to Zeus asking him to help the Trojans so that even more Greeks would die
during his absence. Not only did he abandon his comrades, he actually prayed for them
to die because his pride had been hurt.
In addition to the previously mentioned character flaws, one could argue that Achilles
was also a kidnapper, rapist and murderer. Briseis herself was a love slave. She was taken
as a spoil of war from one of the Greeks previous successful military campaigns. Even if
she went willingly and made love to Achilles willingly, it would be absolutely ludicrous
to think that all of his other love slaves (he had many) had such a good time. No one

Mystery and Menace in Black Veil and Signal Man Essay
If you are setting this submission as Premium, then please enter a short description of
what the essay is trying to achieve. Word Count.
Compare how Dickens creates a sense of mystery and menace in the
Black Veil and the Signal Man . Explain how he uses these theories to explore his theme?
The opening of both stories are quite different. The Black Veil is written in the third
person and The Signal man is written in the first person narrative. The Black Veil creates
an atmosphere of cosiness and warmth which is created by the items of clothing which
are worn by the doctor. reposing in his dressing gown and slippers The atmosphere is
also created by pleasant thoughts as the doctor thinks of his native place and dearest ...

His physical appearance is overcast a dark sallow man, with dark beard and rather heavy
eyebrows. Dickens description likens him to a ghost
the fixed eyed saturnine face . angry sunset is used to add a fiery red light to his dark
valley, which is shown with phrases such as his figure was foreshortened and
shadowed , and again adding an element of mystery because the narrator says I had
shaded my eyes with my hand before I saw him at all to first of all, introduce the
spectre s gesture, but also to give the impression that the light doesn t reach the valley,
but skims the top and he has to block it out to see into the darkness, and by using the
word angry , he makes the sunlight seem almost intimidating in itself. He first plants the
idea of the Signalman not being all he seems, in the readers minds when he says, as the
Signalman looks down the Line, There was something remarkable in his manner of doing
so, though I could not have said, for my life, what. But I know it was remarkable enough
to attract my notice which suggests that he is not entirely normal. When the narrator asks
about a path into the valley, he says the signalman
looked up at me without replying here, he seems to be somewhat preoccupied and
maybe wary of him. Dickens uses the phrase skimming away over the landscape , which
sounds ghostly, to describe the vapour given off by the train.

Similaritys And Dissimilarities And Similarities Between...
There are a lot of similarities and dissimilarities between India and Brazil when it comes
to culture which are as follows:
Similarities:
Both, India and Brazil, were colonies of the European nations for a long period of time.
While India was ruled majorly by the British, Brazil was under the reign of the
Portuguese. The Impact was that the official language of these imperialists became the
main dialect of the ex colonies i.e English in case of India and Portuguese for Brazil
There has been rage over one particular sport with the entire nation being obsessive
about it. It s Cricket for India whereas it is Football for Brazil
India is the second largest producer of tea in the world whereas Brazil is the number one
country in terms of production of coffee. So, both the nations hold major stake in the
beverage industry
Both the countries have huge income divide between the rich and the poor with the
former being excessively rich and the latter being deprived of basic amenities to lead a
healthy and wealthy life
Festivals are an important part of the culture of both the nations. While, Brazil receives
plenty of tourists from around the globe for its Carnivale that happens every year, India
has its fair share of international presence with festivals like Holi and ... Show more

soyabeans, oranges, cotton, tomatoes etc. The Amazon rainforest, majority of which lies
within Brazil s borders, is the habitat of all plant species and contributes 15 per cent of
the world s oxygen. It is also an important factor in the global climate equilibrium and
hence, biodiversity is one of the biggest natural assets that provide an edge to Brazil in

Institute of Contemporary Art
Institute of Contemporary Art
How do you make a building for contemporary art that stays contemporary in the future
without stooping to a neutral language? And how do you attract a big public without
compromising the selfish, private, exclusive time we all want to have in a museum?
These questions, put forward by Elizabeth Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, represent
the urbanistic motivation supporting the construction of Boston s Institute of
Contemporary Art (ICA). In such a manner Boston s ICA engages, not only with the
urban citizen, but also the urban landscape in which the site is located. The ICA conveys
the idea of architecture as art in itself. As a presenter of art to the urban citizen and
because of its open design, the inside allows the citizens to not only appreciate the art
within the building but also see the art of the building s natural environment and setting.
Boston s ICA situated at Fan Pier in South Boston represents a shift from preconceived
architectural constructs to more innovative forms. The building s position in the middle
of a currently undeveloped urban landscape gives it a striking entity that engages the
viewer in a way that facilitates its various functions as a contemporary art museum.
Furthermore its structure and location alter the population s understanding of museum
architecture as it has traditionally been defined, that it is a shell that contains significant
artistic work. A visual paradox becomes evident between
Meerkats Analysis
In contrast to the reading passage, which emphasizes the altruistic qualities of meerkats,
the professor focuses on explaining some arguments that reedem the characteristics of
the mammal. First of all, the passage states that in groups of meerkats, there is one
which acts as a sentinel and that if a predator approches the group, he gives an alarm
cry alerting the other meerkats to escape from the predator, but as some could consider
this act heroic because the sentinel has no food and the rest of the meerkats have the
food they had hunted, the professor argues that a closer studio revealed that the sentinel
meerkat eats before starting guard so that it makes no sacrifices as he is the first
individual of the group who has full stomach. The

  • 2. The Pros and Cons of Nationalism Essay example Nationalism at its core is the support of a country. The goal of a country is to have some sort of resonance within the individuals that reside there that call themselves citizens. If the citizens don t feel any connection with their country, they may move to find one that they feel closer too. Once found, they may support the country over others, defend it within conversations of politics or just find groups that have the same ideals they do about the country. This papers purpose is to illustrate the pros of nationalism as well as its cons. Beginning with America, there is a strong sense of nationalism. Being called patriotic would signify you support America and the ideals the flag stands for. It has many meanings to every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Great evidence of this is in Germany s history. Although repeated quite often as an example of radical nationalism, this doesn t remove it from being a true and sad example of nationalism in its worst form. The central leaders of Germany including Hitler instituted anti Jew laws and once they were certain that the public agreed with these, or at least didn t disagree, started implementing much more extreme laws against the Jewish people. This created one of the worst genocides in the history of mankind. (Krome, 2010) What Hitler did, was take the dislike of Jews that the Muslims helped establish (Maghen, 2009) (Jeffrey, n.d.) , along with Christianity that the Jews were a problem (Callahan, 2004). Having these to point to, he directed an entire nation to become his Aryan race, and Jews weren t alone. Blacks and all other races and religions or creeds were included in the category of being removed, but it was largely the Jewish population affected. In short, nationalism is both good and bad. It seems to block rational behavior and logical thinking to be replaced by radical support for a cause. When it s functioning well, it allows the citizens of a country to unite with each other and share a common interest. Unfortunately this is hard to govern, and it seems to be directed by government bodies and religion. Radical support can go either way, for or against any topic. Middle ground isn t something

Elements of a piece govern and manipulate the tone and overall message being conveyed. In Nunavut, Canada, Janelle Budgell designed an anti drinking campaign that was released in 2014 to raise awareness of International FASD Awareness Day (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder). The campaign consisted of a silhouette of a pregnant woman consuming alcohol with a distress fetus. The main message was clear, concise, and complete; Pregnant women should never drink alcohol. The ad consists of a silhouette of a pregnant woman and an unborn child. In the campaign, the pregnant woman is seen consuming an alcoholic beverage that goes directly to the child. The consumption of alcohol has been generically known to be a risk factor for the health of the child and the mother. Prenatal exposure to alcohol has been known to affect the physical and mental development of the unborn child. Physical and mental effects such as, but not limited to birth defects, growth problems, learning and behavior problems, and sometimes miscarriage or still born (WebMD). The underlying question is how much alcohol is safe for consumption for those who are pregnant? There is not a distinct amount of alcohol that pregnant women can consume that is considered safe . Therefore, no consumption of alcohol is highly recommended as a precaution. Alcohol is not the only contributing factor causing a negative effect on a child s development, but rather a part of the underlying problem. At the top of the image, Baby or the Bottle is white letters with a black background. The contrast between white and black allowed the text to be bold and legible enough to grab the viewer s attention. Looking closely, Baby has a larger font than the other words on the campaign. The usage
  • 4. Mark Twain Satire Analysis Mark Twain s Satire Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name, Mark Twain, was a renowned writer and humorist in American literature. Twains most famous and well known pieces are The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Throughout most of Twains writings he primarily used a form of humor known as satire. The definition of this literary device used by Twain is The use of humorous exaggeration and irony to expose people s failings and stupidity (Satire, 2017). Usually, humor plays a role in making people laugh, which makes it easier to break the ice and for satirical writing to reach its targets. To make it more effective to change society, Mark Twain used satire, which is a literary manner of denouncing, criticizing and laughing at the foibles, crimes or vices of a person or society, with the aim of correcting them (Mark Twain Satirical Approach, 2017). Mark Twain used his satirical writing style to convey, criticize, and poke fun at the flaws in society prevalent at the time. Born the sixth child in the Clemens family, Samuel was born on November 30, 1835 in Missouri. During the time period of Samuels birth, Missouri was considered a fairly new state. The Clemens family resided on the banks of the Mississippi River which later on became an ironic setting throughout many of Twains books. The Mississippi River is one of the longest Rivers in the United States and the fourth largest river in the world. What has made the Mississippi

  • 6. Analysis Of The Article Advertising s Twenty Basic... Paintings aren t as interesting as they used to be. Paintings became popular during the Renaissance era (14th century 17th century). Artists express their thoughts and emotions through their paintings. Paintings give off many messages, and the message someone receives correlates with their mindset. For example, the paintingof the Last Supper, if viewers don t have the mindset of a Christian then they would think everyone is mad at the guy in the middle (Jesus). Paintings are all about perception and what the viewers can take from the image mentally. In the article Advertising s Fifteen Basic Appeals , Jib Fowles gives the meaning of affiliation in advertisement. Fowles states, the need to associate with others is widely invoked in advertising (para. 18). Advertisers use this technique when they want the viewers to get involved. An artist may paint an image of a happily married couple, and this may make a single man want to be affiliated with women. Painters use this technique to bring people together. Also, Fowles breaks down the need to escape in advertisement. Fowles claims that advertisement gives the viewers the need to escape when we have a desire to duck out of our obligations (para. 52). When life becomes too oppressive we tend to seek for freedom. Many advertisements will show an image of people who is having the time of their life to try to target people who are at a low stage in life. Artists use transcendentalism in their paintings that make people want to
  • 7. Reflection Of The Classroom Environment Classroom Environment. As I connect back to my ontological commitment of transferring knowledge for the sake of building a foundation that can carry students through to graduation, I focus on how I can determine why I believe the classroom environment is critical to me. Perhaps it goes back to my positionality, where I truly believe that everyone has a right to learn and grow and that knowledge is the key to success in anything. As a lifelong learner, when I encountered difficulties transferring knowledge to students, I worked to develop intricate ways of teaching complicated material. In some instances, it meant changing the environment altogether, which is perhaps the reason I am a strong proponent for active learning classrooms. In my last qualitative course, I had the opportunity to interview and observe faculty in both types of settings a traditional classroom and an active learning classroom. I gained valuable insight on why teachers using ALCs seemed to thrive and truly engage with students. The flexibility an ALC environment provides for both faculty and students connects back to the theoretical framework of student centered learning and discovery learning theories. My goal in using qualitative inquiry is to determine a better understanding of the successes and challenges in using an ALC because converting classrooms to more modern environments is costly and not many schools have the funding for it (Walker, Brooks, Baepler, 2011). Four airplanes were hijacked, two were crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the third crashed into the Pentagon in D.C. and the fourth got stopped by a passenger. It was the first terrorist attack on the U.S. soil. Thousands of lives were lost that day. This attach was the most devastating act of belligerence on U.S territory since the Civil War (Terrorism, 2011). This even had an enormous influence on America and its history. A positive side to this note is that if a passengers TSA approved lock is missing they can file a claim with form SF 95. Despite the fact that this is a simple way to detect if someone is carrying a bomb, any other type of explosives or anything else that could be dangerous boarding a plane. In the beginning of November 2010 TSA added new screening procedures. The new screening procedures were created because of the reactions of the Underwear bomber . That person smuggled plastic explosives onto and airplane in December 2009. These procedures include the backscatter X ray and the sliding pat downs. Limitations Of Women s Rights Limitations on Women s Rights in the United States Pregnancy termination is a controversial and sensitive subject that has sparked many debates in the past five decades. Essentially, the singular s heart ought not be quieted by the greater part, usually considered the power in a vote based system, as since the majority share rules of quality of numbers as opposed to the inner voice. The principle objective of the Civil Rights Movement was to instate correspondence under the law. King was a nonentity for the Civil Rights Movement. Kings capacity to compose groups into a drive that was unaffected by savagery enormously added to the accomplishment of the Civil Rights Movement. Within the span of three years, 120 colonists disappeared from an English colony on Roanoke Island, a small piece of land off the coast of North Carolina. The evidence left behind barely gives us a clue as to what could have happened to the entire colony. With the testimony of John White, the leader of the colony that left the settlement to get more supplies, and what little evidence there is, there have been many theories as to what actually caused the disappearance. The colony barely lasted until Sir Francis Drake s fleet sailed by in 1586 when Drake offered supplies or a trip back to their homeland. The settlers, starving and homesick, quickly accept the offer and return to England. Not even a week later a relief ship arrives with supplies to discover the settlement abandoned. The supply ship left fifteen men with a reasonable amount of food before departing (The Settlement). Raleigh s first colony was an instructive test run for a second, more planned effort. He also decided to reconfigure the core of the colony by allowing seventeen women, nine children, and two ex convicts under their new leader. • 16. Mechanisms for mRNA Degradation Messenger RNA (mRNA) is extremely important in expression of protein coding genes. mRNA molecules contain the genetic code for synthesis of particular polypeptides during translation. (Lewin s Genes XI, 624) Messenger RNAs are unstable molecules due to the fact that cells have ribonucleases. These ribonucleases can specifically target mRNA molecules in the cytoplasm. There are two types of ribonucleases. Endoribonucleases cut the center of the RNAs, and exoribonuleases detach the ends of RNAs. (Lewin s Genes XI, 625) The stability of mRNA is essential in controlling gene expression. Less stable RNAs are more likely to undergo changes in transcriptionrates, and the more stable RNAs are able to go through translation for longer periods of time. (Lewin s Genes XI, 626) There are several pathways in which mRNAs are degraded. However, the two most common pathways are deadenylation dependent. This means that the degradation process is originated by breaching their protective poly(A) tail. The new poly(A) tail produced is covered in poly(A) binding proteins (PABP). Certain poly(A) nucleases catalyze the steady shortening of the poly(A) tail as it enters the cytoplasm. The PAN2 /3 complex originally shortens the poly(A) tail. Then, CCR4 NOT complex degrades the rest of the poly(A) tail more quickly, only leaving 10 to 12 bases remaining. (Lewin s Genes XI, 629 30) The first of the two common pathways is the 5 to 3 pathway. First, decapping enzymes comprising of

Likely an ancestor of our own species, their fossils have been found with the remnants of large, butchered animals and hand axes suggesting a good degree of tool usage. It is unknown whether or not they actively hunted the large animals that they hunted, but the prolifacy of these butchering sites would suggest that Heidelbergensis was able to have consistent access to these large carcasses. Examination of fossilized hyoid bones in Heidelbergensis indicates that they were also capable of making the nuanced sounds required for speech (MartГnez I, et. al.). Their easy access to food and fire probably came in handy during the Kansan glacial period, which lasted from 0.46 to 0.30 Mya. It was during this icy period that the lineages of Homo sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis finally split from that of H. heidelbergensis and begin to truly hunt for their food. As the ice thaws, Homo neanderthalensis and Homo rhodesiensis first appear. Neanderthals were stockier than modern humans, standing at about 160 cm. They likely possessed a pale complexion and reddish hair (indicated by sequencing the genetics of the bones of two particularly well preserved specimens), which allowed them to produce the large amounts of Vitamin D needed to survive in their primarily northern European habitats (O Neil). Rhodesiensis, on the other hand, likely a human ancestor, showed features consistent with a mix between heidelbergensis and H. sapiens, including an

Like any form of communication, including journalism, documentary filmmaking involves interpretation and choice making on the part of the filmmaker, and is therefore unavoidably subjective. It has the extraordinary power to create, destroy, and influence our every action. Therefore, the nature of religion has caused it to become the center of controversies and contentions. As a result, it has led to a plethora of scholars, and individuals alike to question whether religion been a force of the Holy , or ? However, there are several instances where religion has been harmful. Christianityin the Middle Ages, and even during the early modern period, for example, is plagued with instances of being harmful. Furthermore, many key thinkers have heavily criticized Christianity, specifically thinkers such as Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud. Therefore, in this paper, I will use the works of Sigmund Freud and Karl Marx to argue that religion was used as a force of illusion and exploitation, as seen through Christianity during the middle ages to the early modern period. Sigmund Freud was an influential twentieth century think, most famously know for developing psychoanalysis. His ideas had a lasting impact on the way we study the mind. His revelations further pushed the discussions on a wide range of topics, including religion. However, his views on religion was largely negative. To Freud, the formulation of religion was not from what individuals considered true, but rather what they wanted to be true. In that sense, Freud had assessed religion as being a

The Key Impacts Of Beeconomic Beeconomic, launched by Karl Chong and Christopher Chong in 2010, with the deal of the day concept in which they negotiate with merchants for a big deal on their products or services (usually 50% or higher), and then Beeconomic will in return promote merchants products or services on their site Groupon.com whereby customers could buy the product at a discounted price within 24 hours, and the deal is only valid if there is a minimum pre determined number of customers buying the product, otherwise, the deal would be called off and neither company nor customers could purchase of sell the product. Therefore, collective buying power is the key factor driving the deal of the day concept. The idea of setting up Beeconomic was first raised by Karl Chong who saw the potential in group buying site while working in NYC, at that time the wind of group buying sites were blowing across US. Instead of being transported into the cells, sugar builds up in the bloodstream. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a special hormone that is needed to convert sugar into daily needed energy. Insulin lowers the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. Therefore that is not the same as type 2 diabetes. In most cases type 1 is thought to be an autoimmune disease. If a person has type 1 diabetes they may make antibiotics
  • 22. Ethics, Kantian, And Aristotelian Theory Buddhist ethics, although likened to some Western ethical theories, is not in fact the same as those theories. The most common Western theories it is compared with are; Utilitarianism, Kantian, and Aristotelian. Specifically, Utilitarianism does not address the meaning of being a good person in its definition of right action. Kant does not address the different classes as having different laws but believes in one set of universal laws and Aristotle believes in the perfection of a self that does not exist in Buddhism. These differences can be seen through the evaluation of how a person comes to a decision about an ethical problem. The trolley cart problem presented by Philippa Foot. The problem is making a decision between two options that both result in death. The first option results in the death of one person but the saving of five people s lives. The second option would result in the death of five people and the life of one. In the first option you are consciously interfering with an event and changing that event in order to save lives. In the second option your action is inaction, letting the event happen, and letting the five people die while the one person lives. Using utilitarianism ethics, one would come to the conclusion that you must intervene and save the lives of the five people while sacrificing the life of one person. This is because Utilitarianism is concerned with actions that produce the greatest good for the greatest number. Deciding to kill the one

  • 24. Achilles in The Illiad is not a Hero Essay Achilles in The Illiad is not a Hero In the introduction of the Essential Illiad given by Sheila Murnaghan, Achilles is labeled as the greatest of the Greek heroes . In classic mythology a hero is a person of great strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits and is often the offspring of a mortal and a god. Achilles was the greatest fighter among the Greeks or Trojans and feared no man in battle. He was also the offspring of a mortal and a god so by classic mythology definition, Achilles was indeed a hero. A hero is defined by the present day Websters Dictionary as: one who inspires through manners and actions; an individual who leads through personal example and accomplishments requiring bravery, skill, determination, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During that entire time, Achilles justification for wallowing in self pity is that he has been dishonored . This argument becomes null and void when Agamemnon offers lavish compensation for the affront. In addition to returning Briseis, Agamemnon offers Achilles seven unfired tripods, ten gold bars, twenty burnished cauldrons, a dozen horses, seven beautiful women from Lesbos, twenty Trojan women, his daughters hand in marriage along with a rich dowry, and the ownership of seven populous cities. Any reasonable person would have taken the offer but not prideful, bitter Achilles. Instead he continues on with the same old rhetoric and refuses to fight. As if standing idly by while his countrymen were being killed was not enough, Achilles has his mother call in a favor to Zeus asking him to help the Trojans so that even more Greeks would die during his absence. Not only did he abandon his comrades, he actually prayed for them to die because his pride had been hurt. In addition to the previously mentioned character flaws, one could argue that Achilles was also a kidnapper, rapist and murderer. Briseis herself was a love slave. She was taken as a spoil of war from one of the Greeks previous successful military campaigns. Even if she went willingly and made love to Achilles willingly, it would be absolutely ludicrous to think that all of his other love slaves (he had many) had such a good time. No one likes to be

Dickens description likens him to a ghost the fixed eyed saturnine face . angry sunset is used to add a fiery red light to his dark valley, which is shown with phrases such as his figure was foreshortened and shadowed , and again adding an element of mystery because the narrator says I had shaded my eyes with my hand before I saw him at all to first of all, introduce the spectre s gesture, but also to give the impression that the light doesn t reach the valley, but skims the top and he has to block it out to see into the darkness, and by using the word angry , he makes the sunlight seem almost intimidating in itself. He first plants the idea of the Signalman not being all he seems, in the readers minds when he says, as the Signalman looks down the Line, There was something remarkable in his manner of doing so, though I could not have said, for my life, what. But I know it was remarkable enough to attract my notice which suggests that he is not entirely normal. When the narrator asks about a path into the valley, he says the signalman looked up at me without replying here, he seems to be somewhat preoccupied and maybe wary of him. Dickens uses the phrase skimming away over the landscape , which sounds ghostly, to describe the vapour given off by the train. The

  • 27. Institute of Contemporary Art Institute of Contemporary Art How do you make a building for contemporary art that stays contemporary in the future without stooping to a neutral language? And how do you attract a big public without compromising the selfish, private, exclusive time we all want to have in a museum? These questions, put forward by Elizabeth Diller of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, represent the urbanistic motivation supporting the construction of Boston s Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA). In such a manner Boston s ICA engages, not only with the urban citizen, but also the urban landscape in which the site is located. The ICA conveys the idea of architecture as art in itself. As a presenter of art to the urban citizen and because of its open design, the inside allows the citizens to not only appreciate the art within the building but also see the art of the building s natural environment and setting. Boston s ICA situated at Fan Pier in South Boston represents a shift from preconceived architectural constructs to more innovative forms. The building s position in the middle of a currently undeveloped urban landscape gives it a striking entity that engages the viewer in a way that facilitates its various functions as a contemporary art museum. Furthermore its structure and location alter the population s understanding of museum architecture as it has traditionally been defined, that it is a shell that contains significant artistic work. A visual paradox becomes evident between

Meerkats Analysis In contrast to the reading passage, which emphasizes the altruistic qualities of meerkats, the professor focuses on explaining some arguments that reedem the characteristics of the mammal. First of all, the passage states that in groups of meerkats, there is one which acts as a sentinel and that if a predator approches the group, he gives an alarm cry alerting the other meerkats to escape from the predator, but as some could consider this act heroic because the sentinel has no food and the rest of the meerkats have the food they had hunted, the professor argues that a closer studio revealed that the sentinel meerkat eats before starting guard so that it makes no sacrifices as he is the first individual of the group who has full stomach.
