Food Is The Highest Sign Of Igbo Hospitality
Food is a main part of our daily life that brings our families together at least once a day to reconnect.
It does not only keep us alive and functioning, but it helps us to learn and immerse ourselves into
other cultures. Food can symbolize different things in a certain culture, such as a holiday or a
celebration of some sort. An example is that on Jewish Passover each of the foods during the Seder
meal have a specific meaning, and is eaten to help with the remembrance of certain events in their
cultural history. Food can also show different cultures customs and their perceptions of what good
manners are.
In the Igbo culture, food is mentioned quite often, especially around times of celebration. It brings
people together to share one common thing, their desire for delicious foods. The different food each
have different meanings. Igbo people use their food to show gratitude, hospitality, and to express
certain customs. For example, the Kola Nut is the highest sign of Igbo hospitality. But, receiving a
Kola Nut was only a privilege for the men of the village, not the women. They would first bless the
Kola Nut, then break it, and lastly distribute it. Another food that is mentioned quite a bit throughout
Things Fall Apart and that has quite a significance is Palm wine. Palm wine is mostly mentioned
whenever one of the main characters has someone inside their home, during times of celebration, and
also during the time after Ikemefuna s death. An example of when the palm wine

Monologue On The American Ambush
How have you been? I hope life is going well. How is mom doing? Are you and her eating and
sleeping well? I want to be very honest in this letter. Please do not tell mother what I am about to tell
you. I don t want to worry her. I don t want to worry you too but you re stronger than mom. What I am
about to tell you please take it into consideration but also don t worry as much. Do you remember
Lieutenant Carroll? Lieutenant Carroll was the closest to heaven that we will ever get but that night
we were in hell. There was an ambush. When an ambush occurs you don t ever know what will
happen. Everything is unexpected and you might make some mistakes. I made plenty mistakes during
an ambush. During the ambush I was firing at the enemy trying to kill them and protect our man.
Carroll was near me. When I turned around I seen Carroll get hit near the armpit. Me and the men
tried to rush to the hospital to Chu Lai but it was too late. Carroll shortly died after arriving. Kenny I
wish you would have met him. I believed that Carroll was the only one who really cared for us since

A Raisin In The Sun Fate Vs Free Will Essay
In the texts, A Raisin in the Sun and Antigone, written by Lorraine Hansberry and Sophocles,
respectively, the lens of Fate vs. Free Will is exposed within the situations and dialogues in these
plays. However, to analyze these plays with this lens perspective, one must first recognize what this
lens pertains to. The lens of Fate vs. Free Will pertains to the perspective of analyzing events in a story
and deciding whether they occur due to a predetermined destiny, or rather, a choice made by a
character s own decision or free will. Some may argue, that no matter what, events happen only out of
one of these choices. Now in some opinions, that may hold some validity. However, this can be proved
otherwise. In A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family, a lower class black family in Chicago, awaits an
insurance check, sent in commemoration of the late father of Walter and Beneatha Younger, and the
husband of Lena Younger. There coexist many views on how to use the money, the prominent ones
being Walter s aspiration of opening a liquor store, Lena s aspiration of purchasing a house, ... Show

However, the perspective being taken here is that both fate and free will control these events. In A
Raisin in the Sun, the character, Walter, wants to open a liquor store with some of the money obtained
from the insurance check. This is an example of free will. In Antigone, Creon s close family, Eurydice,
Haemon and Antigone, all kill themselves because of Creon s harsh actions. This is an example of
fate. In these plays, examples of both fate and free will exist and prove that both control the events
that happen to these characters. Therefore, both fate and free will control the events in A Raisin in the
Sun and Antigone, as proved by the events that happen out of a character s decision, the destined
outcome, and the way the events progress based on fate and free

The Implementation Of The Jit
The company is under the leadership of Ms. Cook has taken the initiative to implement the JIT
approach to claim processing, in addition, MICI is changing the layout of the claim s department to
enhance the integration and the implementation of the JIT. Ms. Cook enlists the help of supervisors,
employees, and an outside consultant to work on creating a feasible layout, their first order of duty
was to visit a real life facility; the Kawasaki Motorcycle plant in Lincoln Nebraska for inspiration and
the team concluded that a change in the layout is definitely needed by the MICI claims department to
enhance productivity (Heizer Render, 2011).
Furthermore, Employee development is been prioritized by the company; as all managers and ... Show

The use of JIT will help the company increase their efficiency by cut down on wait time and
processing, all of which will translate to increased productivity and hence profitability. According to
Heizer Render (2011) employee training is vital to the success of a company, this is so true of MICI,
because of the extensive standard training and cross training of the MICI employees will translate to
increased efficiency, productivity flexibility, decreased wait time for customers and as history has
depicted, costumers satisfaction is integral to the success of a company because customers are the
major drivers in the market.
The layout strategy is another concept the book touched on, the new layout of the claims department
will allow for better workflow. It will also improve claims time, employee empowerment due to the
proximity of workers to each order and flow of work in the cell, flexibility of the various equipment
used by the company (Heizer Render, 2011).
Overall Ms.is using the fundamental principle of the JIT, work cell concept, the concept of employees
development, concept revamping and old system that is nonfunctional with the help of the of experts
and the people who actually work in the field. All of which, will hopefully increase throughput,
increase flexibility, reduce variability and give MICI a competitive advantage in the market.

Divine Interactions In Ancient China
Ancient art and literature and overall life was filled with influence of mythological gods and
goddesses. These gods and goddesses were part of everyday life in early history. The citizens would
tell stories about the divine to one another and pass them on from generation to generation. A myth, or
a traditional story, concerning the early history of a people or explaining natural or social phenomenon
typically involving supernatural beings or events, was part of everyday life in the ancient world. The
people would pray to the divine for help with all aspects of life from childbirth and farming to war and
death. Interaction between mortals and the gods was a very common daily occurrence. The Barberini

the art viewed, music seen, and literature read today would not be the same. The interaction of the

magic. Complete with an amazing cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Woody
Harrelson, and Mark Ruffalo, Leterrior attempts to alter the standard mindset of the saying, what you
see is what you get . Succeeding, the director conveys this point by blurring the lines between good

Now, some people may say the strikingly low levels of minority and women representation is because
we do not have enough women and people of color applying for the job in the tech sector. The so

In her research article The Lack of Diversity in Tech is a cultural Issue published by Forbes Magazine,
Bonnie Marcus dispels that myth. She states, The answer is we don t see more progress because the
pipeline concern is not the primary reason for the discouraging statistics. There s a bigger issue. It s
the culture. We can attempt to solve the problem by educating more women and minorities and
challenging hiring practices which are all important initiatives, but the underlying issue that must be
addressed to solve this problem is the hidden and often overt discrimination that prevails in the tech

The United States Military Bases
For roughly 1% of the United States population, the past 10 years have been an ever changing
experience serving across the world. On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by a
terrorist organization residing in Afghanistan. The United States Armed forces were called upon to
fight a war against terrorism. In May 2003, this conflict extended to Iraq, which was acting as a safe
zone for many of the world s terrorists. Since that time, more than 70,000 contractors and sub
contractors have been hired by the Department of the Defense, in order to assist the United States
military in their mission against terrorism. These individuals known as the TCN s or third country
nationals, take part in everything from base security to cooking and laundry. However, since these
individuals are not United States citizens and the government has turned its back to them. Personal
knowledge, department of defense reports, and official law reviews contain a wide variety of
information that give a look inside what has been happening on the United States military bases.
Allegations of human trafficking, sexual assault, and indentured servitude are all common issues these
TCN s have endured.
In 2001, the Pentagon began taking in contract offers from companies around the United States.
Private contracting firms such as KBR Inc. or Prime Project International began receiving over 15

John Dewey
Democracy is defined as a form of government that is ruled by the people. That is, rather than a single
or a small group of leaders, democracy obligates the citizens who are affected by the law to
collectively create the law through active participation. The United States is a nation that prides itself
as a democracy, built on rule by the people via elected representatives. However, the electoral college
system and other institutions within the electoral process actually inhibit many democratic values.
This, paired with remarkably low voter turnout rates, leaves political decisions to be made by those in
power rather than the people. To overcome this, it is necessary to go beyond elections as the central
form of political participation. Likewise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doughty s Participatory Democracy Beyond Classical Liberalism directly confronts major problems
with American politics and proposes a specific method to realistically overcome them. Doughty
explains that voter apathy, voter ignorance, neoliberalism, and inverted totalitarianism ( a system
where corporations have corrupted and subverted democracy and where economics trumps politics )
are each underlying reasons for the lack of participation in the United States theoretical democracy. As
a result, American politics plays out to be a two party system, which consequently limits the voice of
the people. In response, Doughty presents what he calls proportional representation, a multi party
system that the United States ought to adopt to become true democracy: This process respects neither
the integrity of voters who are forced to vote for someone they actually oppose, nor the principle of
democracy which is intended to produce results that accurately reflect citizens choices. Put simply,
Doughty believes that a system that really only values two opinions Democrat and Republican is not
an accurate representation the people. He believes that the only way to truly empower the public is to
match the proportion of representatives of a given party to the percentage of people who vote for that
party. For example, if 30 percent of the public vote for the Green party, then 30 percent of the seats in

was her ability to overcome her past life. She was at first a confused child at the mercy of her mother.
Her delinquent acts was said to be a result of her and her mother s bond. This emotional hold on the
daughter seemed to have forced Shangra into believing she needs to take care of her mom, to do so
she must indulge herself in illegal activity. Towards the end of the documentary, however, she was

fair in its decision with Shangra s case. Instead of locking her up in a jail cell for 8 years they gave her

Compressive Approach To Crime Prevention
Compressive approach The risk factors that can lead to substance abuse are well documented, with
that harm reduction strategies can be put into play. Dealing with the extensive amount of overdose
fatalities in B.C it has become a large concern by both socially and financially straining, intervention
which is costly and often ineffective (Uyei, J., Fiellin, D. A., Buchelli, M., Rodriguez Santana, R.,
Braithwaite, R. S. 2017). An effective approach to crime prevention would be proactive, risk based,
problem oriented, and evidence based; utilizing both informal social control and partnerships (S.
Schneider 2015). Many of the root causes to substance abuse can be traced to the adolescent years,
and reflecting the current state of emergency recent programs would seem to have a limited effect. It
would seem as though the best crime prevention approach would be through social development, it is
important to make use of problem solving interventions designed to prevent the onset of criminal or
deviant behavior specifically targeted at vulnerable or at risk youth (S. Schneider 2015). This type of
intervention is long term in scope and the only way to give an accurate assessment of its effectiveness
is through long term measurements. However as stated above one of the early onset risk factors is the

George Berkeley s Response To Materialism
George Berkeley seeks to prove that everything there is, is a mind or a mind s contents . His overall
goal consists of arguing against materialism in an attempt to promote idealism instead. Berkeley does
this by introducing his likeness objection , in opposition to the traditional representation theory of
perception. Another approach that Berkeley takes in describing the lack of distinction between
primary and secondary qualities. I, however, believe that his likeness objection and his thoughts
towards primary and secondary qualities is not as convincing as he honestly thinks it is, and that its
usage could potentially help promote materialism instead of dismantling it. In order to fully explain
how I believe the likeness objection is ineffective, I will present three sections worth of information.
In section one, I will state Berkeley s approach to idealism and how he integrates his likeness
objection into it; in section two, I will put forth my thoughts and claims about the matter; and in
section three, I will anticipate one possible criticism and respond to that criticism accordingly. Section
I Berkeley s advocacy of idealism stemmed from the different definition that ... Show more content on

Light levels in Nursing homes must be increased to make up for the loss of visual acuity that occurs
within the aging eye. In order to provide the needed amount of light for older adults, light levels need
to be raised, balancing of natural light and artificial light must occur, as well as the elimination of
glare. The elimination of glare is critical. As adults age, glare and reflection become real problems and
play key roles in contributing to agitation, confusion, and anger; this in turn, inhibits activity and
compromises safety (Brawley, 2006, Page 8).
When designing an elder care facility, designers and architects should be very conscious of the LRV
(Light Reflectance Values) within a space. LRV is a measurement taken of the usable light reflected

Assignment 1
Answer 1.
As described in the question store summarized this data into single score by multiplying the number of
responses by number assigned. With this procedure, they got mean value of 3.19. Which lies between
the 3 unsure and 4 agree.
With which store manager will conclude that response is mild agreement or small unsure.
This is not correct interpretation of data. As this argument relies on assumption that psychological
distance between agreement and strong agreement is same as in agreement and unsure. Which is not
correct as the responses can also be distorted on psychological attitudes. To put it in simple terms
Ordinal data cannot possess a mean value.

a). Gender Requires one of two responses male or female
From this question, we will get Nominal data. Because it has two possible values male or female. We
can count no. of males and females but both doesn t have their actual values neither we can compare
them to each other i.e. we can t say that male has higher value than female. But we can say no. of
males are less than or greater than no. of females.
b. Fahrenheit thermometers
Collects values representing temperatures in Fahrenheit
Collected values representing temperatures in Fahrenheit(F) is an Interval Data. As in the terms of
temperature there is fixed interval. As difference between 1F and 3F is same as in 22F and 24F.
However, we cannot say that 5F is half than 10F because there is no absolute zero in temperature.
Temperature can increase to infinity as well as decrease to infinity in Fahrenheit.
c. Kelvin thermometers Collects values representing temperatures in Kelvin
Collected values representing temperature in kelvin(k) is a Ratio Data. Because in terms of kelvin
temperature there is fixed intervals and as well as absolute zero. As there is absolute zero in kelvin
temperature we can say that 5 degrees is half hot as compared to 10 degrees.
d. The number of items a customer buys
In whole numbers
It is also a ratio Data because there can be a customer buying no item. So, there can be an absolute
zero. Moreover, we can also say that 5 items are half of 10

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Environment
Our lives and our environment are more closely intertwined than we think. From the Earth provided
materials and to man made items that surround us. How much we consume of these things, and how
much we waste. Greed surrounds us by what we use, and how we use it. Our health relies on all of
these things, as does the environment relies on our choices as human beings. The Earth provides us
with everything we need: Food, water, air, and shelter. We take these things to sustain us, even getting
creative in our choices to make new and better things. But our creativity has led us down a dark path.
It all started in the late 1800 s when man made synthetics. Synthetics were made by a chemical
process that imitated the real material. In the 1900 s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are hiding our creation under the ground. Out of sight, out of mind is the worst kind of thinking
when it comes to using and throwing away what we made unnaturally made and begun to rely on.
When we are not clearing away land and hiding our trash, the synthetic materials are building up in
our lakes, rivers, and oceans and destroying ecosystems. Ecosystems that animals rely on, which we
rely on the animals as a food source, and back to the rivers and streams that all living creatures rely
on. Without an ecosystem, we have no animals. Without animals, we have no food. Without water,
everything dies. As of right now, there is an island in the middle of the ocean that is stuck in the direct
path of the ocean currents. This means that whatever synthetic materials end up in the ocean, is
brought here. The residents of this island are an environmental preservationist that do everything they
can to clean up the waste. But there are billions of tons of plastics and synthetic materials, that they
cannot get rid of it all. So instead, the island is covered in piles of trash that kill the birds that rest and
mate there. The island is an important spot for a certain species of seagulls that use that land and the
ocean around it for food, water, and reproduction. But the food and water has been compromised. The
seagulls are dying before they get the chance to reproduce, or the babies are getting killed

Why Is Benjamin Franklin Called The Picture Perfect...
Nate Locatelli
Mr. Pisenti
Period 1
11/2/17
Benjamin Franklin was the picture perfect self made man. From seemingly nothing, he became a
successful musician, author, scientist, and printer. In his free time, he helped found and build a
country.
The key to Franklin s success was his desire and his need to constantly improve himself on all fronts.
His quest for excellence began at only the age of 20. It was then that he thought of a program that
would motivate and push him to possess more virtuous habits. Since he was also a perfectionist, he
drew up a list of 13 virtues, and created a chart on which to keep track of his progress in living them.
Each week he would focus on one virtue while also keeping track of the others. He would then move
on to the next virtue and so on, eventually going through four cycles of each of the virtues in a single
year.
When he failed to live up to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To make the most of his time, he created a schedule for himself. To begin the day the right way, not
only regarding order, but living well in general. This helped Franklin focus on things he could do to
serve his fellow man and help his society as he went about his daily routine. Franklin examined how
he had spent his hours and whether he had done the good things he had planned on doing, as well as if
he had taken action on spontaneous opportunities to lend others a helping hand.
Benjamin Franklin s moral and social philosophies inspired and still inspire millions around the world.
Becoming a self made man is a long and tough task. Improve yourself, which will then improve the
society around you. Slight slip ups are impossible to avoid when trying to follow strict ideals. Franklin
s purpose was to make people aware of their inclinations and to help them overcome the natural
tendencies of themselves, which would limit our dependence on other people. Benjamin Franklin is an
inspiration to us

Sally Joe Accomplishments
I worked with Sally Joe over the course of the semester and it was a wonderful time, at the beginning
she did not really want to open up to me but towards the end I could not get her to quit talking. She is
a remarkable young lady and I am so happy I got to work with her over the course of the semester.
Sally Joe is sixteen years old and lives in Coeburn, Virginia with her mother and father. She has 3
siblings, two older brothers and older sister. Sally is spending some time at Eastside High School in
Coeburn and she is spending the other half of the day at the Technical School in Wise, which is fifteen
minutes away from her high school. She is taking Marketing, English 9, Life Skills, and L.I.F.E. Some

She would be trained to stock shelves, working as a cashier, and being a helpful employee. She would
fit perfectly into a part time Food City because of her experience. She would be able to walk into this
job and not have too much of problems except for adjusting to the new system that would the only
major problem that Sally would possibly have. She would have to learn about stocking shelves at
Food City and their way of doing things at Food City.
Recommendations
The best advice I can give Sally is to continue to do well in school and continue to ease her way out of
her shyness. She struggles with her marketing class and I believe to major in business she would have
to work really hard to obtain this degree.
Another step Sally could take to brighten her future would be to talk more and engage in conversation
as well. She was extremely shy and nervous around me at first, but after working with her a little
while she finally started opening up. I believe in order to work with the public in general you have to
have a personality.
Sally needs to pay especially in detail when she begins to work at Dud s and Dough so she can take
that experience and put it towards her future

During the whole situation from the moment we pulled up out side the house I was very nervous and

I calmed down a little. I was surprised at my own reaction of distaste when I entered the house and

later informed me that his wife had recently divorced him and he was having difficulties coping).
When Claire asked me to do the drops I declined, at the time I was annoyed with myself for missing
the opportunity to practice my clinical skills.
4.Ethics: ask yourself:
Did my actions match with my beliefs?
What factors made me act in incongruent ways?
In refection my actions did not match the beliefs I held about myself before coming on community.
From my time on my ward placements I thought I had built up a good professional attitude and could
work my way around difficult situations. What I was not prepared for was how much; the lack of
familiar surroundings would affect my actions and how nervous I felt about giving a good impression
to Claire and the patients.

good intentions, Langston tells us about the group and the event happening, There was a big revival at
my Auntie Reed s church. Every night for weeks there had been much preaching, singing, praying,

succeeded in getting responses from some of the children for salvation. Although some is not enough,
for these members they want all of the children to be saved and start to put on the group pressure.
They do this by crowding the children gathering around, praying, singing and crying by them (79).
This method seems to be working the kids are getting up one by one till Langston is left alone (79).
Now the group is really stepping up the pressure, everyone is praying, singing and crying for Langston

New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers, spoke these jarring words in response to commentary by
other players around the league indicating their beliefs that vicious, helmet to helmet hits are simply
part of the game (Battista). For many years, this view, in which concussions are actually considered to
be good in the way that they show one s toughness and dedication to football, has been shared by
many players and coaches throughout the league. The generally short length of the effects of
concussions (or at least the immediate effects) and the frequency at which they happen have
contributed to this dangerously careless perception of the ailment, to the point that some players
would be more likely to consider retirement due to a foot injury than due to a head injury ( AP survey:
Concussions not most ). Additionally, the lack of response to concussions by the National Football
League, revealed in a 2012 lawsuit filed against it by former players affected by concussions,
exacerbates the issue, along with their past attempts to hide the severity of concussions from players.
This view of concussions is extremely concerning, and while the NFL has taken steps forward
regarding concussion prevention and response through fines and regulations, improvement of the
players awareness of concussions, stricter responses to concussions by the league, and increased

The First Method Of Mindfulness Of The Body
The first method of mindfulness of the body is to disentangle the direct and immediate sensation in the
body from our mental processes and reactions to the sensation. We attempt to place the sensation itself
in the foreground and fully observe it, while allowing our likes and dislikes, thoughts and fantasies, to
be noticed and let go of.
Many times as we work on our minds and bodies, there can be quite a bit of sore muscles, being tired,
just hang in there These will fade away and you will be on cloud nine. There will be sensations you
may not like.....that, too will fade away. We are instead fully observing the nature of the sensations at

sensation itself is contained. As s substitute, instead of transferring our attention we should penetrate
the experience a little more..
Accomplishing mindfulness during our practice of yoga, enables an awareness of letting go of our

our mind to become calm and peaceful, will be able to attain a better sense of wellbeing, take into

Researchers have recently begun to take an interest in healing benefits of mindfulness and yoga.
Research has indicated that there are many health benefits when applying mindfulness based
approaches to pain management, physical functioning, and the ability to cope with stresses in

We need to enable ourselves to understand how we can let go of stressful conditions by recognizing
and being mindful of them, Mindfulness Meditation is an effective technique for letting go of life s
problems. Mindfulness has always been essential to practice along with yoga since its early

Trainspotting (1996) is a depiction of the squalid depravities and exploitative self interest that

unflinching portrayal of drug use was what first attracted me to look at it a bit closer. Based on the

In 1950 Roman Jakobson introduced a theory concerned with the way that language and
communication is used. This is used in film to convey a message to the audience. His system is that
the `addresser sends a message to the `addressee , and the dominant function of the message
determines the meaning. The various forms that the function can take are; Referential; Emotive;
Conative; Phatic; Metalingual and Poetic. One of these functions will be dominant according to
Jakobson, thus playing a determining and shaping role with respect to the meaning of the message the
addresser sends to the addressee (Lothe 15). This is used in films such as Trainspotting in a way that is
not entirely obvious to the audience, as it is disguised by the narrative.

Revolutionary War A Just War Analysis
Have you ever wondered if the beginning of the United Sates was based off of a just war? Saint
Augustine, a renowned Christian theologian and philosopher, addressed the idea of a just war during
the time of the Roman Empire. Augustine is well known for his book City of God in which he first
introduces his standards of a just war. These standards must be met for a war to be classified as just.
This new concept that war could be approved by God and used for good revolutionized the way
Christians viewed war. Although written hundreds of years ago, these standards have truly stood the
test of time because they are still referred to today. Based on Augustine s standards, The Revolutionary
War can be argued as a just war because there was a just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tightening the standards would insure that future wars are fought for the protection of our country, but
not for spreading democracy or nation building. America has continuously meddled in other countries

anger towards America becomes even more important since our country now has a relatively open

The Genesis Of Future Conflict
Controversy surrounds the existence of the western way of war theme and even plants the seed of
doubt if it did occur. In Parker s The Cambridge History of Warfare, Parker suggests the western way
of war can be abridged into five characteristics: technology, discipline, aggressive military action,
finance, and innovation. Parker proposes that the western way of war facets significantly altered the
preparation for battle and the outcomes on the battlefield. A prime example is the great Napoleon
Bonaparte during his conquest to dominate the continent of Europe. The characteristics of the western
way of war that are best characterized during the Napoleon era are discipline, aggressive military
tradition, and innovation. The purpose of this essay is to argue that these three aspects were to become
the genesis of future conflict in post Napoleon era. The French army was not only promoted by the
nationalism ideology, but also by discipline. Before the French Revolution, Soldiers at the time were
viewed as the dredger of society. Soldiers within Fredrick the Great s armies did not have loyalty. For
example, Fredrick would send out troops for resources and his Soldiers often did not return; whereas
Napoleon s troops would gather resources from the land and return. Before the Seven Year s War, the
army was without enthusiasm and distinction, which lead to defeats. 2 Napoleon employed various
tactics aimed at physiology warfare with his opposition. Napoleon gave his enemies the

The following is a biography of Michel de Nostredame, it is a excerpt from Erika Cheetham, The

Michel de Nostradame, more commonly known as Nostradamus, was born on 14th December 1503, in
St. Remy de Provence. His parents were of simple lineage from around Avignon. Nostradamus was
the oldest son, and had four brothers; of the first three we know little; the youngest, Jean, became
Procureur of the Parliament of the Provence. Education

Tragedies
Then a series of tragedies struck. The plague came to Agen and, despite all his efforts, killed
Nostradamus wife and two children. The fact that he was unable to save his own family had a
disastrous effect on his practice. The he quarrelled with Scaliger and lost his friendship. His late wife s
family tried to sue him for the return of her dowry and as the final straw, in 1538, he was accused of
heresy because of a chance remark made some years before. To a workman casting a bronze statue of
the Virgin, Nostradamus had commented that he was making devils. His plea that he was only
describing the lack of aesthetic appeal inherent int the statue was ignored and the Inquisitors sent for
him to go to Toulouse.
Travelling
Nostradamus, having no wish to stand trial, set out on his wandering again and kept well clear of the
Church authorities for the next six years. We know little of this period. From references in later books
we know he travelled in the Lorraine and went to Venice and Sicily. Legends about Nostradamus
prophetic powers also start to appear at this time.
By 1554 Nostradamus had settled in Marseilles. In November that year, the Provence experienced one
of the worst floods of its history. The plague redoubled in virulence, spread by the waters and the
polluted corpses. Nostradamus worked ceaselessly.

As the water crisis continues to become severe, there is a dire need of reform in water management
system and revival of traditional systems. Scientific and technological studies needs to be carried out
to assess present status so as to suggest suitable mitigative measures for the revival to traditional

This method is less expensive and very effective and if implemented properly helps in augmenting the
ground water level of the area.
Components of the roof top rainwater harvesting system
The illustrative design of the basic components of roof top rainwater harvesting system is given in the
following typical schematic diagram/
The system mainly constitutes of following sub components:
§ Catchment
§ Transportation
§ First flush
§ Filter
The surface that receives rainfall directly is the catchment of rainwater harvesting system. It may be
terrace, courtyard, or paved or unpaved open ground. The terrace may be flat RCC/stone roof or
sloping roof. Therefore the catchment is the area, which actually contributes rainwater to the
harvesting system.
Transportation
Rainwater from rooftop should be carried through down take water pipes or drains to
storage/harvesting system. Water pipes should be UV resistant (ISI HDPE/PVC pipes) of required
capacity. Water from sloping roofs could be caught through gutters and down take pipe. At terraces,
mouth of the each drain should have wire mesh to restrict floating material.
First Flush
First flush is a device used to flush off the water received in first shower. The first shower of rains
needs to be flushed off to avoid contaminating storable/rechargeable water by the probable
contaminants of the atmosphere and the catchment roof. It

Behavior Change Project Report
Behavior Change Project
Selecting a Student
I selected my student from one of my students that I viewed to have some of the worst behavior in the
class. I am at Bond Elementary School which is an intercity school. Most of the school s student
population comes from subsidized housing (the projects). I am in a first grade class of nineteen
students. While performing my duties at in Mrs. J Williams Classroom I became very eager to observe
as well as work with a student by the name of Ja Von W. Ja Von is a six year old, I recently found out
that his mother is on drugs and is being supported by his sixteen year old brother. Many of the
students that I have observed in the classroom have had behavior problems and issues with their ...

In the intervention after helping him with his vocabulary and introducing the interventive technique I
will record how many words he gets wrong with the tally marks on the form same as I did for
baseline. Ja Von will hopefully be reading with 80% fluency after the end of the intervention.
Developing an Intervention
The intervention I selected was Chart Moves. The way that I implemented this particular intervention
with the student is by writing his name on the poster in which I supplied. Every time the student
performed the desired behavior, which was reading fluently within two minutes and answering post
questions he would move up half a notch. With the chart, Ja Von would have the opportunity to earn
different reinforcement such as things that he was interested in or things that he liked. I became aware
of the things that he was interested in during the observation phase and before I introduced him to the
intervention, I asked him to make a list of the 10 things that he enjoyed doing or things that he liked in
general. The list included but were not limited too cookies, candy and action figures. This gave me the
opportunity to use the reinforcers as ways to increase the desired behavior and decrease the
inappropriate one. After the intervention was introduced, it was explained to the student how it would
work. Moreover, the way the system was designed to work in the way that the student would quickly
and accurately read a passage

Camila Essay
The 1984 Argentine melodrama film, Camila, directed and co written by María Luisa Bemberg is
based on the true story of Camila O Gorman. The film is centred on the life of its main protagonist,
Camila, who is from a wealthy and well respected family which supports the dictatorship of Juan
Manuel de Rosas. In particular, the film captures Camila s affair with Father Ladislao Gutiérrez and
what is distinctively interesting is that regardless of his oath to the cloth, Father Ladislao is unable to
resist Camila s advances. As such, both are forced to elope and live under false pretences. Yet, this
sacrilegious union is not without consequences as both Camila and Ladislao are sentenced, imprisoned
and executed on Rosas order. In this regard, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, Bemberg juxtaposes entrapment with resistance to patriarchy. Therefore, we can posit
that Camila s choice to pursue Ladislao goes against the patriarchal system in more ways than one. On
one hand, she disobeys and refuses the choice her paternal father has made for her, that is Ignacio, as
her mate and on the other hand, Camila s choice of mate depicts the failure of Rosas dictatorship as he
is unable to truly propagate and enforce his ideologies but more importantly it underlines an insolence
to the patriarchal values on which the government and all other social institutions including the family
and church are built. The physical entrapment of Camila and La Perichona in the film highlights the
function of the patriarchal system that has suppressed females expression of love in Argentina during
the reign of Rosas. However, the issue of female entrapment leads to resistance. Camila s entrapment
with her passion has led her to act against values of the patriarchal system so as to satisfy her desires,
whereas the physical entrapment is an indication that she has rebelled against the system, as such her
privileges has been restricted. Thus, in the event that Camila had not challenged the patriarchal system
then she would not have faced imprisonment and her life would have been

Essay about Euthanasia
Introduction Euthanasia continues to be a subject of ethical debate. It is defined as the administration
of lethal drugs by someone other than the person concerned with the explicit intention of ending a
patient s life, at the latter s explicit request (Quaghebeur, de Casterle, Gastmans, 2009).
An unprecedented number of people in the United States today live well into their late adult years.
Improved medical and public health practices, increasing life expectancies, and the graying of the
baby boom generation have all contributed to this phenomenon (Moulton, Hill, Burdette, 2006).
Euthanasia has been and always will be a topic of debate in the United States because Americans are
living longer. Oregon, Washington, and Montana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Food Is The Highest Sign Of Igbo Hospitality Food is a main part of our daily life that brings our families together at least once a day to reconnect. It does not only keep us alive and functioning, but it helps us to learn and immerse ourselves into other cultures. Food can symbolize different things in a certain culture, such as a holiday or a celebration of some sort. An example is that on Jewish Passover each of the foods during the Seder meal have a specific meaning, and is eaten to help with the remembrance of certain events in their cultural history. Food can also show different cultures customs and their perceptions of what good manners are. In the Igbo culture, food is mentioned quite often, especially around times of celebration. It brings people together to share one common thing, their desire for delicious foods. The different food each have different meanings. Igbo people use their food to show gratitude, hospitality, and to express certain customs. For example, the Kola Nut is the highest sign of Igbo hospitality. But, receiving a Kola Nut was only a privilege for the men of the village, not the women. They would first bless the Kola Nut, then break it, and lastly distribute it. Another food that is mentioned quite a bit throughout Things Fall Apart and that has quite a significance is Palm wine. Palm wine is mostly mentioned whenever one of the main characters has someone inside their home, during times of celebration, and also during the time after Ikemefuna s death. An example of when the palm wine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Raisin In The Sun Fate Vs Free Will Essay In the texts, A Raisin in the Sun and Antigone, written by Lorraine Hansberry and Sophocles, respectively, the lens of Fate vs. Free Will is exposed within the situations and dialogues in these plays. However, to analyze these plays with this lens perspective, one must first recognize what this lens pertains to. The lens of Fate vs. Free Will pertains to the perspective of analyzing events in a story and deciding whether they occur due to a predetermined destiny, or rather, a choice made by a character s own decision or free will. Some may argue, that no matter what, events happen only out of one of these choices. Now in some opinions, that may hold some validity. However, this can be proved otherwise. In A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family, a lower class black family in Chicago, awaits an insurance check, sent in commemoration of the late father of Walter and Beneatha Younger, and the husband of Lena Younger. There coexist many views on how to use the money, the prominent ones being Walter s aspiration of opening a liquor store, Lena s aspiration of purchasing a house, ... In Antigone, Creon s close family, Eurydice, Haemon and Antigone, all kill themselves because of Creon s harsh actions. This is an example of fate. In these plays, examples of both fate and free will exist and prove that both control the events that happen to these characters. However, the electoral college system and other institutions within the electoral process actually inhibit many democratic values. Doughty explains that voter apathy, voter ignorance, neoliberalism, and inverted totalitarianism ( a system where corporations have corrupted and subverted democracy and where economics trumps politics ) are each underlying reasons for the lack of participation in the United States theoretical democracy. As a result, American politics plays out to be a two party system, which consequently limits the voice of the people. In response, Doughty presents what he calls proportional representation, a multi party system that the United States ought to adopt to become true democracy: This process respects neither the integrity of voters who are forced to vote for someone they actually oppose, nor the principle of democracy which is intended to produce results that accurately reflect citizens choices. Put simply, Doughty believes that a system that really only values two opinions Democrat and Republican is not an accurate representation the people. Wide receiver Mario Manningham, who has played for the NFL s New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers, spoke these jarring words in response to commentary by other players around the league indicating their beliefs that vicious, helmet to helmet hits are simply part of the game (Battista). For many years, this view, in which concussions are actually considered to be good in the way that they show one s toughness and dedication to football, has been shared by many players and coaches throughout the league. The generally short length of the effects of concussions (or at least the immediate effects) and the frequency at which they happen have contributed to this dangerously careless perception of the ailment, to the point that some players would be more likely to consider retirement due to a foot injury than due to a head injury ( AP survey: Concussions not most ). Additionally, the lack of response to concussions by the National Football League, revealed in a 2012 lawsuit filed against it by former players affected by concussions, exacerbates the issue, along with their past attempts to hide the severity of concussions from players. The various forms that the function can take are; Referential; Emotive; Conative; Phatic; Metalingual and Poetic. In Parker s The Cambridge History of Warfare, Parker suggests the western way of war can be abridged into five characteristics: technology, discipline, aggressive military action, finance, and innovation. Parker proposes that the western way of war facets significantly altered the preparation for battle and the outcomes on the battlefield. A prime example is the great Napoleon Bonaparte during his conquest to dominate the continent of Europe. The characteristics of the western way of war that are best characterized during the Napoleon era are discipline, aggressive military tradition, and innovation. The purpose of this essay is to argue that these three aspects were to become the genesis of future conflict in post Napoleon era. The physical entrapment of Camila and La Perichona in the film highlights the function of the patriarchal system that has suppressed females expression of love in Argentina during the reign of Rosas. However, the issue of female entrapment leads to resistance. Camila s entrapment with her passion has led her to act against values of the patriarchal system so as to satisfy her desires, whereas the physical entrapment is an indication that she has rebelled against the system, as such her privileges has been restricted.
