Essay On Emotional Intelligence
Crafting an essay on the subject of emotional intelligence can be quite challenging. This topic
delves into the complexities of human emotions, cognition, and behavior, requiring a nuanced
understanding of psychology, sociology, and even neuroscience. To adequately address
emotional intelligence, one must navigate through various theoretical frameworks, empirical
studies, and real-world applications, which demands thorough research and critical analysis.
Moreover, writing about emotional intelligence necessitates a high level of introspection and
self-awareness. It often involves reflecting on personal experiences, societal norms, and cultural
influences to provide insightful commentary on the topic. This introspective aspect can be both
rewarding and daunting, as it requires individuals to confront their own emotions and biases
while articulating their thoughts effectively.
Furthermore, effectively communicating the significance of emotional intelligence and its impact
on various aspects of life, such as relationships, leadership, and mental well-being, adds another
layer of complexity to the writing process. Balancing theoretical concepts with practical
examples and illustrating the relevance of emotional intelligence in different contexts requires
skillful storytelling and persuasive argumentation.
In summary, composing an essay on emotional intelligence demands a multifaceted approach,
combining research, introspection, and effective communication. It challenges writers to delve
deep into the complexities of human emotions and behavior while articulating their insights in a
clear and compelling manner.

Persuasive Essay Homelessness
Ever since I was a kid, I always asked myself how would it feel like to be homeless.
I never really understood back then how these people became homeless in the first
place, but as I got older I understood why and how it can happen to anyone in a
blink of an eye. Making bad decisions, hanging around the wrong crowd, getting
addicted to drugs, being lazy, or just not having anyone around you to motivate
you or push you. But for the most part you just don t know what people have gone
through in their life s to end up being homeless. So I decided to try to be in their
shoes for one day (literally) and see how that would turn out. I wouldn t take this
experiment that far like living outside or anything, but to a certain extent. I d be
too scared to sleep outside and be away from my house. So I kind of had an idea of
how I wanted to test this experiment without actually living outside. I planned to
not use my cell phone for the day which included the use of Instagram, Snapchat,
Facebook, Twitter, or any type of social media that would connect me to the
internet. I was not going to reply to any of my text messages, or take any phone
calls. I told my family that I was doing an experiment and if they really needed me
that it would have to be an emergency type situation. Ha, they probably thought I
was crazy for this. So as far as how much food I get to eat for that day, I had some
sort of a game plan. My plan was to ask my two older brothers who were home, but

Essay about Elie Wiesel s Night
When looking at the holocaust, it is widely known the devastation and pain that was
caused by the Nazis; however when inspecting the holocaust on a deeper level, it is
evident that the Jews were exposed to unimaginable treatment and experimentation
often overlooked in history discussions. When looking at Night , ElieWieselwas
helped by the doctors in the camp when his foot was severely infected; although this
is not the experience he had, many Jews were mistreated and even killed by the
doctors. Many Nazi doctors that were assigned to Jewish patients were later found to
have exposed the patients to horrific medical experiments and unnecessary treatments
that commonly led to their death.
There definitely were cases in which the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many claim that doctors were only advancing science, and others claim the horrid
acts that were committed were done because of the hatred towards the Jewish
people. Regardless of which fact is inevitably true, both situations caused cruel and
inhuman treatment to the Jews, and ultimately led to their deaths at the camps. A
civilian doctor named Carl Clauberg was famous for his sterilization experiments.
The procedure involved injections to the cervix to destroy the fallopian tubes, and
then often the victims were gassed and left for dead (Winik 9). When the Jews
arrived on transports, Nazi doctors immediately determined who would be gassed
and who would go to a work camp (Winik 8). In Auschwitz, Nazi doctors presided
over the murder of most of the one million victims of that camp. Doctors consulted
actively on how best to keep selections running smoothly, on how many people to
permit to remain alive to fill the slave labor requirements ... and on how to burn the
enormous numbers of bodies that strained the facilities of the crematoria (Gutman
303). In the book, Anatomy of the Auschwitz Death Camp, Yisrael Gutman offers a
summary of the events that took place at Auschwitz:
It was the Nazi doctors themselves, however, who were the most implicated in Nazi
mass murder and brutal experimentation in Auschwitz. There probably has never
been an episode in history in which

P1 Describe the technologies required for e commerce
The technologies required for an e commerce are as follows: server software, pc, and
database, web authoring tools, web server, ports, TCP/IP and the browsers. I will be
explaining why these technologies are required for an e commerce.
Web servers
A web server is a PC that opens pages on a browser on request. It sends the web
address of the page that has been requested to the web browser. They have an IP
address and possibly domains and are essential for an ecommerce because
ecommerce is online and a web server is what you need to surf the web.
Web browsers A web browser is an application on your PC that is used for searching
on the World Wide Webthey allow the user to share or receive information. They are
needed for ecommerce because you need a web browser to access the information
from ecommerce.
Sever software
Server software is software what is used what is used to turn a computer to a web
server. For example Windows or Apache. Important for the use of ecommerce
because without it you wouldn t be able to make a server to be able to run an
ecommerce and to be able to have the use of a browser, also so you can send and
receive information for ecommerce.
TCP/IP
TCP/IP is a protocol which transfers data across a network. It allows two different
computers to communicate well even if they use different codes. Putting both
computers into a new common code language which both computers
The Cherry Orchard By Anton Chekov
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have. As demonstrated by
this quotation from Vince Lombardi, a reflection of our worth derives from the effort
we put forward. Stories of successful citizens rising from the unknown to fame, or
poverty to wealth shows the common man that if they desire a similar outcome, there
exists a possibility of attaining a higher social status. Occasionally, as depicted in the
play The Cherry Orchardby Anton Chekov, instances where honest means to attain
fortune occasionally arise. By utilizing dialogue and direction, action, and images, he
makes clear the dishonest motives of the character Lopakhin, especially within the
third act. In order to obtain a new status within society, Lopakhin creates chaos in
order to ensure his future differs from his past, while controlling the destiny of those
who indirectly oppressed him through the development of a motive and acting on his
personal desires with no regard for the people around him.Without an initial
conversation regarding development, there exists no possibility for change. David
Ball, the author of Backwards and Forwards: A Technical Manual for Reading Plays
mentions, Talking is drama s most common activity. (Ball 27) then proceeds to
question the statement to continue his point by asking, What is it about talking that
connects it to recognizable human behavior? resulting in his answer of A human
being talks in order to get what he or she wants. (27). Within a play,
Kent State Shootings
The shootings that occurred at Kent State University, Ohio, on May 4, 1970 have
been a dark spot in American history for almost 36 years. It is a day remembered
by many names, THE KENT STATE SHOOTINGS, MAY 4 or the KENT STATE
MASSACRE. Four students were killed and nine were wounded, all of America
suffered. The student body at Kent State numbered about 20,000 and had been
considered conservative, but not overly political. In fact they were thought of as
rather passive politically. The shootings were a culmination of four days of
demonstrations by members of the student body. The students were protesting the
invasion of Cambodia by American forces. In 1968 Richard Nixon was elected
President. One of the promises he made was to end the... Show more content on

At 11:00 the curfew was enforced and the students went back to the dorms. A
protest that had been scheduled three days earlier was planned for noon on
Monday, May 4. The University had tried to ban the protest; they handed out
12,000 leaflets saying the event was cancelled. Even so and estimated 2000 to
3000 people gathered on the Commons. The rally began peacefully, the iron bell
was rung (usually it was rung to signal victories in football games) and one speaker
started to speak. At this point the National Guard chose to disperse the crowd,
fearing that the situation might get out of hand and grow into another violent
protest. Tear gas was again fired into the crowd but because of wind the gas had
little effect on dispersing the students, some of the protesters picked up the tear gas
canisters and threw them back at the Guard. Others were throwing rocks and
shouting Pigs off campus. In an attempt to disperse the crowd a group of 77
National Guardsman advanced on the hundreds of protesters with bayonets fixed on
their loaded weapons. The troops were wearing gas masks and had little training in
riot control. They soon found themselves trapped on an athletic field that was fenced
on 3 sides. The Guardsmen then began to retreat back in the direction they had
come, followed by some of the protesters. When they reached the top of a hill, 29 of
the 77 guardsmen fired between 61 to 67 shots at the unarmed students. The
Parental Leave At The United States Essay
III. Parental Leave in the United States
The lack of a paid parental leave law in the country does not necessarily mean that
it is absent in the U.S. labor market. Some generous and more progressive
companies do recognize the importance of the leave to employees and do offer it.
According to the Employee Benefits Survey of 2015, 21% of employers nationally
offer some paid maternity leave while 17% offer some paid paternity/adoption leave.
However, about a fifth don t have any kind of protected maternity, paternity, or
adoptive leave. (Ray, 8; Time, n. pag.)
An article online from Time Inc. Network lists some U.S. companies that do offer
paid parental leave. Most of these companies use the leave to attract talented
employees and most are in the information and/or technology industry. The list
include:
Adobe 26 weeks of paid maternity leave and 16 weeks of paid leave for primary
caregivers
Amazon 20 weeks of paid maternity leave, 2 of which can be taken before the birth
of the child, and 6 weeks of paid paternal and adoptive parents leave
Apple 18 weeks of paid maternity leave, 4 of which can be taken before the birth of
the child, and 6 weeks of paid paternal and adoptive parents leave
Facebook 16 weeks of parental leave (includes maternity, paternity, and adoption), and

Secrets of the Mind This summary is based on a video series, found on YouTube,
depicting the findings of neurologist, Dr. V.S. Ramachandran. Ramachandran is noted
for his use of experimental methods that rely relatively little on complex
technologies such as neuroimaging. According to Ramachandran, too much of the
Victorian sense of adventure [in science] has been lost. In the case of Derek Steen,
who is suffering from Phantom Limb Syndrome, Dr. Ramachandran evaluated the
levels of feelings on both sides of the patient s body by touching certain parts of the
patient with a q tip. When the Dr. stroked the q tip across the left side of the patients

DR. Ramachandran says that the reason Graham doesn t see anything, but can sense
its presence due to damage in the visual cortex. In a case similar to Graham Young,
Peggy Palmer suffers from visual neglect caused by a stroke in the parietal lobes of
the brain. Dr. Ramachandran explains that parietal lobes create a three dimensional
layout of the world around us, which allows us to navigate our direction. The
patient can see, but only on one side or the other, i.e. she only sees half of what is
really there. During an experiment where the patient was asked to draw a picture of
a daisy from memory, she was only able to draw the right half of the daisy.
Until, it was brought to her attention, she had no idea that she was only drawing half
of the picture. This gives us evidence that there is not only a sensory problem, but a
problem of consciousness. With 30 areas in the brain for seeing, visual input divides
into two parallel streams of processing. One called the How pathway, is concerned
with navigation and the other called the What pathway is concerned with recognition.
David Silvera has damage to the What pathway and has been diagnosed with
Capgras Syndrome. The patient does not recognize familiar people and places. He
contends that his parents are not who they say they are and does not recognize his
own home. The patient sometimes refers to himself as he was not David. He does
recognize his parent s
Jekyll And Mr Hyde Limitations
The novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis
Stevenson, is about a well respected scientist named Dr. Jekyll who creates an elixir
that turns him into evil Mr. Hyde who goes around and terrorizes a small community
in London. Hyde commits many terrible crimes, including murder. People are scared
of Hyde, and allow him to do whatever his heart desires. In the text the author shows
that the theme of limitations of scientific experimentation is evident. Stevenson
shows throughout that text that without limits people will die, limits are necessary
when science involves human testing, and had Jekyll been limited by science Hyde
would have never been created, and all of the death and despair would have never
happened. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Awful instances and crimes are something of a regular occurrence throughout this
story. These crimes seem to escalate in severity during the course of the story. The
first terrible crime happens in chapter one when hyde runs over a little girl, as a
pro football linebacker would do to a petite running back, and leaves her
screaming bloody murder as he carries about his business until he is brought back
to the scene by Mr. Utterson, who quickly realizes that this creature of a man is not
phased by this incident. Hyde also murders an innocent man for no other reason
except that the man got in Hyde s way. When the two met the older man bowed
and accosted the other with a very pretty manner of politeness (17) while Hyde all
of sudden broke out in a great flame of anger, stamping with his foot, brandishing
the cane, and carrying on (as the maid described it) like a madman (17). Hyde also
killed a second person, not with a physical beating, but from a psychological
standpoint. In Lanyon s letter, he states, The creature who crept into my house that
night was, on JekyllВ’s own confession, known by the name of Hyde (48.). The
mere thought of such a foul being led to the death of Dr. Hastie
7 Speedy Activity Benefits Of Yoga
Yoga does not require much effort, yet it comes packed with a lot of benefits. This
practice that combines breathing, poses and meditation has been found by many to
be beneficial in improving overall health, as well as increasing productivity. You will
find that many of the productive achievers in the world practice one form of yogaor
the other.
This has already begun a trend, where organizations encourage their employees to
get involved in yoga in order to increase focus, efficiency and over all productivity.
These 7 speedy productivity benefits of yoga will blow your mind.

It also improves posture, releasing the compression on the spine as a result of poor
posture.
Yoga has also been found to be beneficial in alleviating cardiovascular conditions and
preventing heart failure. This also is a physical ailment that impacts productivity.
Constant practice of the breathing techniques and some simple poses improves blood
circulation, and alleviates high blood pressure and other heart related diseases. Yoga
does not only treat these conditions, it also keeps a check on them, so that they do not
resurface.
YOGA IMPROVES MOVEMENT
Yoga improves balance and flexibility, allowing you a movement range that you
would ordinarily not have. For some people, it is very important for work
productivity.
Individuals in sports, entertainment and military, that require strength, balance and
flexibility, to carry out their work will benefit a lot from yoga. Others who just
want to be more effective at work, by being able to carry out various activities
effortlessly, can also benefit from yoga.
This is in fact an important ability, as one begins to advance in age.

The Longest Memory Summary
Tanner Stark History 100 Mary Borg 30 November 2017 The Longest Memory
Book Understanding When people think of slavery today they think of all blacks
being treated unfairly and beaten all the time. Slavery is a serious and very rough
topic due to the horror stories of beatings and how poorly some of the slaves were
treated. That was not the case for all slaves, in fact some slaves had it easier than
others depending on the overseers and the behavior of the slaves. Some were
treated well and had love interests with their owners and some would look more to
their religion of Christianity for how they should treat their slaves, which was
usually less harsh. There are many factors that come into play when talking about
the life of a slave in the south before the Civil War. In this paper I will talk a lot
about different ways and reasons why slaves were treated the way they were, how
the newspaper talks about the slave life and what the true meaning of The Longest
Memory is. Slave owners viewed slaves in several different ways, which can be put
into three categories. First is the discipline category. The discipline category
consists of a heavy hand which is used for slaves who disobey. Discipline with a
heavy hand is very brutal. They use discipline to show the slaves that they need to
behave because they will whip you as much as they need to in order to keep the
slaves in line and stop trying to run away. In the book The Longest Memory by Fred

A Long Period Of Time
The issues, related to tortures, have been a controversial topic for a long period of
time. Torture is generally defined as the act of deliberately inflicting severe
physical or psychological pain and possibly injury to an organism, usually to one
who is physically restrained or otherwise under the torturer s control or custody and
unable to defend against what is being done to him or her. (Rejali 1994). The cases of
torturing individuals are known from ancient times till nowadays in various countries
and either officially or not officially conducted. Reasons for such activities are
different, mostly they are punishment, political re education or revenge, they could be
personal or not personal, in some cases people experience satisfaction from watching
or performing torturing to other individuals. In such situations individuals are forced
from inside by psychological pressure and need serious professional help. The final
intentions of the tortures are also different, either this could be to kill the victim or
just to prolong the suffering until it turns out to be fatal. Sometimes tortures were
parts of capital punishment. The type of torture chosen, as well as its length and
methods, depends directly upon the final aim. Some countries acknowledged
application of tortures legally, in other countries tortures were prohibited by domestic
laws and they subdued to international prohibition laws. Starting from the 20th
century tortures are generally considered to be serious

Like The Sun Paradox
Like the Sun is a story about how a man decides to tell the truth all day, and The
Open Window is about a man with a nervous illness who is waiting to meet a new
acquaintance, but her niece scares him away with a secretly untruthful story. These
stories seem to be unlike each other, but they are alike in the way that they both have
concepts of truth and deceptions.
In Like the Sun a few examples of both irony and paradox are present. The biggest
irony of the story is that lying made people happier than knowing than the truth. A
small irony in Like the Sun is when Sekhar s boss asked him for the truth, which in
the end wasn t really what he wanted. The main paradox of Like the Sun is that if all
you did was tell the truth people
Eye Opening Trip To The Caribbean Essay
The Eye Opening Trip to The Caribbean It was a Sunday morning in the middle of
May when our family was on our way to the Caribbean. With that being said, we
had a long 14 hour flight ahead of us, but the sky was blue and we were all filled
up with excitement as to what would come next. I had never been in the Caribbean
before and I did not know what to except. As we sat impatiently waiting to board
our plane, I started writing my diary for the trip. Because we were going to be
away for a good month or even more, I had to write a diary of my experiences and
what I learned so that I could turn it in when I got back to school. As I began
writing, I started to brainstorm of what I thought it was going to be like being in a
very different culture with people you had never seen before. As a blond, young
girl, I did not know much about different cultures as I am from a country with very
little diversity. The only thing I knew was that the Caribbean was far,... Show more

Our brains today are capable of thinking, making decisions, learning, and creating
new ideas and inventions. However, 1.8 million years ago, our brains were not as
capable nor were they as advanced as our modern brain. Studies suggest that this
increase of brain size was all due to an unexpected factor that occurred almost 2
million years ago; this skill discovered by the homo erectus known today as
cooking. Humans also discovered how to propagate traits into crops, making them
easier to collect and consume. Millions of years ago, ancient humans developed new
and more modern ways of collecting and eating their food, which then led to the

humans. The domestication of these crops became ancient civilizations primary

could spend less time searching for food and more time building up their societies.
Cereals were an important part in helping the Mayan, Near East, Asian, and all of the

Sexual Harassment In The Crucible
At the moment, Hollywood actors are falling left and right. After decades of silence,
victims of sexual harassment have gained the courage to confront their harassers and
accuse them. This movement all began with actresses Ashley Judd and Rose
McGowan, who accused the well known Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, of
sexual harassmentfrom two decades ago in a detailed timeline in the New York Times
article, Harvey Weinstein Paid off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades written
by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. Following this accusation, several others began to
make sexaul harassment accusations against other popular actors. This movement
quickly gained momentum, however others have tried to discredit the accusers and
are calling this a modern day witch hunt. This movement creates a parallel to the 1692
Salem Witch Trials in Salem, Massachusetts, written about in the play The Crucible

In the beginning of The Crucible, a group of young girls were found in the woods
and believed to be practicing witchcraft. This event quickly spiraled into a
continuous loop of accusation after accusation. Several townspeople began to make
claims and charge people, mostly women, on the account of witchcraft, with
insufficient evidence. However, the accusers were able to prosper because of their
political and religious climate. In a similar way, in present day, Ashley Judd and
Rose McGowan, accusations against Harvey Weinstein led to several other actresses
/actors to come out and reveal their own stories of sexual harassment and accuse
other celebrities or film set workers. However, in modern time, most accusations are
believed and perpetrators are facing consequences but during the witch trials, all
accusations were firmly believed, although accusations
Importance Of Comics And Gns In English Novels
COMICS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS A POWERFUL TOOL FOR THE ENGLISH
LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN INDIA
Chumki Biswas, Ph.D. in English
University of Mumbai
ABSTRACT While the 1940s saw the Golden Age of Comics, the Graphic Novel
(GN), a sub set of comics is now the fastest growing book genre in the US. The
potential pedagogical value of Comics and GNs have caught the attention of the
English Language Teaching (ELT) community. In the last decade many experimental
language instructors have realised that Comics and GNs can be a valuable teaching
tool in the classroom that can facilitate Basic Interpersonal Communicative Skills
(BICS) as well as Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) in learners.
Though there is substantial research expounding the advantages of using Comics and
GNs for ELT, these texts have not yet become an integral part of school and college
curricula. Against such a background this paper highlights the reasons why it is
imperative that the Indian education system should include Comics and GNs in the
language learner s curriculum. Authentic texts like Comics and GNs will help in
acquiring language proficiency by increasing learner motivation, facilitating
contextual understanding, elucidating on conversational maxims and providing input
on cultural interactions. The narrative material of Comics and GNs is so diverse that
it can appeal both to young and adult learners, while reducing affective filters and
encouraging multimodal reading skills. Key Words:
The Role Of Violence In The White Tiger By Aravind Adiga
It cannot fairly be said that in Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, the only
way to escape the Darkness and advance in society is through violence, as an
alternative route to the Light is presented in the story arc of Vijay, the pig herder s
son turned politician. Balram asserts that the murder of Ashok is not only the
direct cause of his new wealth and status, but also the only possible trigger for his
newfound social mobility. Yet, this is contradicted earlier in the story when he
presents Vijay, the bus driver, as his role model for a successful person. Vijay, in
order to achieve his elevated position, resorted to prostitution; despite not being a
desirable alternative to violence, it is an alternative all the same and therefore
violence is not the only way to escape the Darkness. Following this logic, it is
Balram s story and the immediate increase in wealth that results from the murder of
Ashok that best supports violence as the only means of moving into the Light, and
Vijay s story is the best evidence against that point of view.
Although Balram argues that violence is his only way of overcoming the poverty he
is born into, Vijay, a manborn into status even lower than Balram s, achieves power
and wealth without resorting to violence. Initially Balram presents Vijay as his role
model, condoning the rumors of his prostitution in order to advance socially. He
portrays Vijay as the first entrepreneur [he] knew of and a man who had made it in
life (26), thereby
A Clash Of King Martin Analysis
All fiction has to have a certain amount of truth in it to be powerful. This is a quote
from leading fantasy writer and bestselling author, George R.R. Martin. In his
novel, A Clash of Kings, Martin depicts a dark and grimy setting in which war is a
constant theme, a setting very much similar to that of Lord of the Rings and
Beowulf. A Clash of Kings is only the second of thirteen novels in Martin s book
series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The first novel in the book series, A Game of Thrones,
undoubtedly left readers with many unanswered questions. It concluded with the
death of preeminent characters, King Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark. After King
Robert Baratheon s unexpected death, rulers from different Houses across the
Seven Kingdoms claimed to deserve the vacant position on his throne, which was
referred to as the Iron Throne. In the midst of a consistent struggle to obtain power,
Martin concentrates on four royal families: House Baratheon, House Stark, House
Lannister, and House Targaryen. Each House has at least one member of their
family that believes they are the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. The battles fought
to decide the new ruler of the Seven Kingdoms was often referred to in the book as
the War of the Five Kings. In his novel, A Clash of Kings, George R.R. Martin
strategically presents the story behind the War of the Five Kings from viewpoints of
nine of his characters, while keeping the readers entertained with persistent wars
being fought on and off the

Job Analysis and Legal Implications
Job Analysis Legal Implications A job analysis is a process to identify, to
determine in detail, the particular job duties and the relative importance of the
duties for a given job (Job Analysis: Overview, 1999). Judgments are made in the
process about the data collected on a job. The purpose is to establish job relatedness
of the employment procedures. This would include training, selection, compensation,
and performance appraisal. The job analysis is used to develop training needs,
compensation for skill levels, responsibilities, and required levels of education. It is
used to develop selection procedures and criteria for performance reviews. The job
analysis consists of different methods to be used in combination. The methods
include review of job classification systems, incumbent reviews, supervisor review,
expert panel, structured questionnaires, task inventories, check lists, open ended
questionnaires, observation, and incumbent work logs. The job analysis should
include duties and tasks, environment, tools and equipment, relationships, and
requirements. The Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures and the
American s with Disabilities Act govern the job analysis (Job Analysis: Law/Legal
Issues: Federal Guidelines, 1999). The Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection
Procedures requires a job analysis with validation studies based on job information
review. The job analysis should describe work behaviors, their relative importance,

is to analyse the impact of three different Flexible Alternating Current Transmission
System (FACTS) devices on a power system and to analyse their capabilities with
respect to various disturbances. FACTS devices discussed in this paper are Static Var
Compensator (SVC), Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Unified
Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The impact on power flow and Power Oscillation
Damping due to these devices is analysed in detail. Simulations based on different
choices of Power Oscillation Damping (POD) signal are simulated for small and
large disturbance incurred on the system. Effect of Linear (residue method) and
Non linear (CLF) based POD signals on the system is shown in the paper. Impact
of each device is considered separately followed by a comparative study between
them. All simulations are done with the help of SIMPOW and all figures are plotted

Augustine Research Paper
Many great classical thinkers had a profound influence on later great thinkers. Plato
and Aristotle are just two examples that come to mind out of many. It would be
interesting to ponder the possibility as to whether or not the thought of later times
would have the same ground that it has if it were not for these great thinkers that
came before.
In the early period of Christianity, the influence of Plato s philosophical criticisms of
art can be seen in effect in Augustine s view of the imagination as profane. One can
question as to whether Augustine s view of original sin would have been so negative
if he had not imbibed the Platonic conception of the Fall of the soul. The combination
of Biblical and Hellenic elements made Christian philosophy, ... Show more content

Alfarabi is probably the least important of these, he is primarily significant because
he was a pioneer in the invocation of Aristotle as a philosophical authority (essentially
paving the way for the Golden Age of Muslim Aristotelianism). He is said to have
believed in the unity of the thought of Plato and Aristotle. Also, his work shows a
confluence of their theories. An example of this is his claim that God is
simultaneously identical with the neo Platonic One and with Aristotle s Self
Thinking Thought . When we look at Avicenna however, we find the development of
a Muslim philosophy more independent of theological constraints as well as an
Aristotelianism less apologetic to supposed Platonic doctrine (philosopheruk). With
this being said, Avicenna rejects the conception of a divine creation of the world in
time and follows Aristotle in considering the primary aim of philosophy to be the
study of being qua being. Algazali demonstrated a critical backlash against the
Aristotelianism of Avicenna, within the Islamic tradition. In his work The
Incoherence of the Philosophers , he attacks the inconsistency of the philosophical
positions of Alfarabi and Avicenna with orthodox Koranic interpretation
(philosopheruk). This work is significant philosophically because it does not rule
out the possibility of philosophy de jure, but rather points to the misuse of
philosophy by both of his predecessors. In other words, he was concerned with the
philosophical ideas of the eternity of the world and the rejection of bodily
resurrection, ideas which he regarded not simply as theologically heterodox but as
the result of a misapplication of Aristotelian logical
Comparing Miss Brill And The Garden Party By

In language, the term conversation is commonly understood as a discussion engaged
between two or more people. This form of verbal communication enables news and
new ideas to be exchanged and shared. However, within literature, a conversation is
far more nuanced by a result of written work having a greater context which lies
beneath the words. The construction of a conversationwithin the literary text is
forever a creation made by the author themselves. The act of creating this
conversation by the author is both revealing for an in depth reading of the text but
most significantly to provide a contextual understanding of the author and their
choices. The Garden Party (1922) by writer Katherine Mansfield is a collection of

Therefore in the concise nature of the form, any conversational element must have
a significant role within the text. Within Mansfield s Miss Brill, the contrast in the
unreliable narration and dialogue in conversation, are employed to highlight the
stories main theme of reality versus fantasy. The stories detached narrative style
provides a convincing platform for Miss Brill s facade, creating the initial
impression that Miss Brill s life is flawless. In the stories inception, the narration
establishes Miss Brill s delusional fantasy, through the weather much like The
Garden Party which begins on a perfect day. In Miss Brill, the blue sky which is
powdered with gold and great spots of light shines down. The language evokes a
description worthy of a painting rather than a true autumn sky. This is a purposeful
technique by Mansfield as the sky is a symbolic mirroring of Miss Brill s attempts
to cloud her harsh reality with delusions of grandeur and beauty. The introduction of
a perfect fantasy is critical to the story as this is juxtaposed when the reader is
confronted with the later realisation of Miss Brill s reality through the role of
conversation. (add more) (Free indirect discourse needs to be
What Is Effective Altruism As A Philosophy And Social...
Peter Singer, author of The Most Good You Can Do, defines effective altruism as a
philosophy and social movement which applies evidence and reason to working
out the most effective ways to improve the world (Singer, 2015, p. 4 5). Given this
definition, who are effective altruists? They are individuals who wish to make
positive contributions to society by considering their course of action in an
objective manner. To make this clearer, Singer contrasts effective altruists from
warm glow givers (Singer, 2015, p. 5). Warm glow givers donate to charities to feel
good without truly understanding how their donations are utilized to help people.
Hence, these givers will offer their donations not to the most pressing causes, but to
causes that appeal to their heart. On the other hand, effective altruists do not
immediately act based on their emotions. Instead, they take a moment to step back
and critically analyze if a certain action will help as much people as they hope it
will. In short, they want to target the most urgent issues by maximizing whatever
resources they have for the benefit of a larger group of people. Since effective
altruism is a movement aimed at helping the most people, who are these people that
altruists hope to help? It is clear to me from this chapter that so far, the goal of
effective altruism is to uplift the poor. In this chapter, Singer states that money will
be utilized best if it is directed towards uplifting the needy in developing countries.
The Game Hex Was Invented By The Danish Mathematician
Piet
The game Hex was invented by the Danish mathematician Piet Hein in the 1940s.
This game has been of great interest to mathematicians around the world since its
introduction, including Martin Gardner who explores it in chapter eight of his
first Scientific American Book of Mathematical Puzzles and Games (1959). The
game is normally played on a board of 11x11 hexagons with two edges labelled
black and the other two labelled white. It is a two person game in which both
players (using black and white counters) attempt to create a chain connecting both of
their respective sides of the board. This chapter will stray away from the basics of Hex
and instead explore a more specific aspect of the game: ladders. Topics to be
discussed include general... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This knowledge will hopefully allow the player to place ladder escapes (discussed
later in the chapter), which will more often than not result in winning positions for
the attacking player. The most common ladder formation, the bottleneck, is one that
all players should familiarize themselves with. This occurs when there is a gap in
between two defensive counters, and the attacking player must place a counter in that
gap, which ultimately forces a ladder like the one depicted in figure one on the
left. At this point, it would be wise to place an escape in the third row, to the left of
where the ladder is about to form. The reasoning behind this is that the defending
player now has to deal with a ladder escape and a possible connection to counters at
the top of the board in C2, D3, and E4. All things considered, an ideal placement for
the ladder escape would be C9. Figure two shows the placement of the red counter
on C9 and the computer s response in A10. Can you now determine a placement
that would secure a win for the red player?Ladder escapes, as hinted to in the
previous two paragraphs, are of vital importance with regards to ladders and the
successful formation of a connection to the edge. Without the use of them, ladders
would continue to extend until reaching an edge and ultimately a victory for the
player on the defensive side of the ladder. Similarly to ladders themselves, ladder
escape counters

No matter how strong your recruiting, hiring, performance management, and

business. Terminations can result from employee misconduct, performance issues,
and changes in business. Termination meetings tend to be stressful for both the
employee and the person delivering the message. Nonetheless, there are some key
steps to follow that can make this meeting easier: Step 1) Above all else, treat the
employee with respect and kindness and remain calm no matter how the employee
reacts. Do not argue with the employee. Be compassionate and respectful. Step 2)
Conduct the meeting in private and keep it brief. Step 3) Have another witness
present preferably someone from HR or in management. Step 4) During the meeting,
discuss termination meeting, benefits, and references: Focus on the real reason for
the termination. Being vague can lead the employee to draw their own conclusions
regarding the reasons. The purpose of the meeting is to communicate the message,
not to discuss the reasons, or rights and wrongs, behind the decision. You should
avoid discussing anything not relevant to the employee s conduct or reason for
termination. Review termination benefits, if any (i.e., severance, vacation pay,
insurance continuation) and, if applicable, review the separation and release

Change In Film
Film, being both visual and audible, has become a power source of art throughout
its development. In many cases, films are used as a way to promote social change.
The 2000 X Men film can be seen as a cry for equality. A supernatural film about
mutants versus humans sends an underlying message about how people may not
feel accepted or like they fit in just because they don t conform to society. During
the mid 1950s and early 1960s movies were used to express the desire to break free,
as a people, from the ideals of perfection and gender norms as America underwent a
huge social change that quickly became known as The Sexual Revolution. (Escoffier,

that wants to find a purpose in life despite being neglected by his parents and

(1959) is about men who dress as women to escape thugs and the women they meet

the norm but was made despite American film censorship s contempt. Men in

to think. The speech was about just about African Americans but equal rights as
people. We people are as one and should treat each other with the same respect.
There is no money in the world that will pay for respect or equal rights. One of the
first things I think young people, especially nowadays, should learn is how to see
for yourself and listen for yourself and think for yourself (MalcolmX). Like many
young adults and any older adults listen for yourself and see for yourself. Many
people go by word of mouth thinking they will know the truth about situations that is
happening but in reality they may be given part of a story. Go out and see the truth
for yourself and experience what is being fought for. The rights or yourself and
others and everyone should be a part of it to understand why this is happening and the
outcomes that come about

Promotion Mix (D) **You will need to delete in RED as it helps you piece it
together as whole Brazil boasts having a reputation of fabricating some of the world s
most creative advertising especially when it is entertaining which includes familiar
venues like the United States but in addition evening soap operas known as
telenovelas and sporting events are popular and coveted advertising space (O Barr,
2008). Since the average Brazilian tends to watch an average of five hours of
television per day, television comprises of 59% of the media mix and the Brazilians
are overtly loyal to their evening news and telenovelas so to center their time around
those events (Millwardbrown, n.d). Other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Costs and premiums vary depending on the product and strategy but there are three
types of ad agencies in Brazil which include multi national agencies that also
service local accounts as well, smaller home grown agencies that service primarily
local clients and a small number of extraordinary successful Brazilian agencies that
grew up in the last two decades and enjoy distinction as some of the world s most
creative (O Barr, 2008). Personal selling is usually preferred when there is an
expensive higher end product that would be best sold on a one on one
personalized contact but is often costly to train the salesperson. According to
Onkvisit and Shaw (2009), personal selling is often taught in trade or vocational
schools and is not seen as a prestigious occupation and in Brazil, salespeople are not
trained well in comparison to U.S. standards. Door to door selling is allowed in
Brazil like in the U.S but for it to be successful, requires support in terms of training
and information (Onkvisit and Shaw, 2009). It could be considered as one of the
more difficult methods of promotion as excellent communication and persuasion
skills are necessary. Sales promotions customarily used in Brazil include social
media groups twitting about latest sales as 63 millions Brazilians have access to
The Sport of Soccer Essay
The Sport of Soccer Not much is known about the origin of soccer. However, the
Greeks and Romans played football and ball kicking games. The London Football
Association developed the first sets of rules in 1863. British sailors and settlers
brought the game to India, South America and Europe. During the late 19th century,
soccer was brought to the United States. However, it did not prove popular until
after World War I. In 1908, soccer was made an Olympic event. Since 1952, Hungary
has won the most gold medals with three. Even today, although it is an international
game, it has been slow to gain popularity as an intercollegiate sport in this country. It
is however, gaining popularity and is being included in physical education... Show

In soccer there are many rules that have changed. Back in the 1700 s the playing
field was shaped like a square. There were only four major markings on the field.
They were the touchlines, goal lines, halfway line, and the eighteen yard lines.
When the Football Association (FA) was created in 1863, the first uniform rules
were made. FIFA now requires that soccer be played on a rectangular field
between one hundred and one hundred thirty yards long and between fifty and one
hundred yards wide. For international matches the field should be between one
hundred ten and one hundred twenty yards long and between seventy and eighty
yards wide. There are two goals, one placed at each end of the field. They are eight
feet tall, eight yards across, and six feet deep. The lines that mark the sides of the
field are called touchlines; those that mark the two ends of the field are called goal
lines. Also there are five other distinctive lines. They are the halfway lines, the goal
areas, the penalty areas, the corner marks, and the center circle. In 1908 soccer was
put in every summer Olympic Game. Since 1952 Hungary has won the most gold
medals. By 1930 the interest in soccer was high enough to ensure the success of the
first World Cup. Even though only thirteen Countries entered that was still enough to
have the first World Cup. Soccer didn t come to the United States until 1620. Soccer
first became recognized in the United States when the National Collegiate Athletic
Characterization Of Harrison Bergeron In 2081 And

Characterization of Harrison Bergeron in 2081 and Harrison Bergeron
Comparing and contrasting Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron and Chandler Tuttle s
2081 in relation to their characterization of the short story s namesake is an
undertaking chock full of potential. These two sources are very different in their
representation of young Harrison and this serves to completely skew one s
preconceived understanding of his person, motivations, and desires. Due to this subtle
but significant variation one can come to the conclusion that the way an individual is
portrayed and the words they speak in different genres greatly manipulates others
perception of their character. This is evident when one analyzes the monologuing and
shot choices of the short film or the descriptions and dialogue in the story.
A satirical genius not recognized as such in his early years, Vonnegut published
what is now a staple in high school classrooms in 1961. This work is named for a
character who appears only briefly, but in that time creates a very strong impression;
Harrison Bergeron is a fourteen year old boy who surpasses most of society in every
measurable quality. Vonnegut s brash description of Harrison depicts him as some
monstrous being of metal and sandbags, reminiscent of horror movie villains of
times long past. Despite his limited dialogue, the words Harrison speaks reinforce
this image to a tee; he is a power hungry beast of a boy. Victim to delusions of
grandeur,
Art Room Painting Analysis
Walking through the art room the scent of acrylics guides the nose. The moisture in
the air is so thick, it feels as though a heavy blanket has been laid upon the room. It
seems to make the smell of the room magnify until there is nothing else except the
bitter smell of paints. The tile floors are splattered with paint and smudged with
chalk, which seem to lead you through this humid tundra. Stepping through another
set of doors, the world returns to the cool bliss of fall. Shaping knives, water cans
and an assortment of paint brushes are splayed across the room on countertops and
shelves. The wallto the left is lined with windows, where students always seem to be
looking in, as if to experience some sort of brilliance. But what happens... Show more

The painter picks up the brush, the grains of wood lightly caressing the fingertips,
willing them to move. With one stroke, fine lines bloom on the canvas, they come
forth like flowers during spring. Practiced movements carry the brush from one side
of the canvas to the next, leaving a trail of color in its wake. Laughter and music
dance through the air and taunt the painter with promises of distraction, but the
brushes movements whisk away the torment until the world is quiet. The only thing
moving is the wooden brush, its bristles moist with color.
The window to the left is the only indication of time going by. Green to red, red to
white. The scenery changes, as does the painting. Time goes by in this room. Has it
been weeks? Months? Flitting past like leaves on the trees. The light inside you
burns and begs to be set free. It expands until you are full of anticipating light.
The only thing left on the mind is time. As the painting continues to grow and take
root, the outside world begins to die. Winter is nearing. With the glittering hope of
snowfall brings a new sense of passion. Sprouting from within and spreading
outwards, it overpowers your body and

My choice of industry leader
My choice of industry leader is bobby flay his real name is Robert William flay.
When I think of influential hospitality leader I am familiar with is bobby flay. He
comes to mind as most influential person in this industry. What influence me was
that I have seen him on television since I was eight years old. I remember waking
up on Saturday mornings a watching grill it on bobby flay show. Also, I remember
every time I saw him on food networks iron chef America every afternoon on
Thursdays waiting for that show to come on. Even to the day he has like three
different shows. The most recent one is when he goes head to head against anyone
who steps in his kitchen. He even always finds a way to win in his show. That is
what made me want to cook because I want to succeed like him. That is why I
started cooking since a was ten and still cook almost every day to the current day
and sill have passion with my cooking. Thanks to growing up watching food network
every day.
Bobby flay born in New York city in 1964. The reason he was able get into the
cooking industry was because; (the great chef Joe Allen was impressed by flays
natural ability agreed to pay his tuition at the French culinary institute.) then he gave
him a job as a sous chef at the Brighton grill as his first job in the industry. Than
after a while fired their chef and gave the job to bobby flay and became the head chef
at Brighton grill.
Statement Of Purpose Of Electronic Engineering
Statement of Purpose
Dr.Einstein, aren t these same questions as last year s [Physics] final exam? a student
asked Albert Einstein. Yes, But the answers are different , he answered.
It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was
teaching us the allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do
you think makes a small piece of diamond more precious than tons of charcoal,
although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is it its appearance? No. It s the
pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a diamond . A
diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he quoted. No
pressure, No diamond. Pressure shapes a diamond, in the same way, persistence in
challenging situation shapes a man I still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Women In SophoclesAntigone
Sophocles Antigone follows the events that occur after the legendary battle in
which brothers Eteocles and Polyneices kill each other, and Creon becomes the
king of Thebes. The driving action of the play involves Antigone s burial of her
brother Polyneices, an act that Creon decreed illegal. When watching this play, a
modern audience will not always consider the role or opinion of women in the 5th
century B.C.E., and may instead consider Antigone s defiance as justified, because
the modern audience will consider the roles and expectations of women in today s
society. Furthermore, a modern audience may see justification in Antigone s
defiance since not only was she burying her brother, but she was also fulfilling the
decree of the gods, which she deemed to be morally right. Therefore, the
differences between the roles and expectations of women will have an effect on the
way that a 5th century B.C.E. ancient Greek and a modern, western audience will
perceive Antigone s defiance of Creon. When examining the audience s
interpretation of Antigone s defiance of Creon s decree, it is first important to
understand how the two time periods modern and ancient Greek view the role of
women in society. Firstly, women in a modern, western society have agency and
autonomy over their decisions; whereas in the past women would generally be
encouraged to stay at home and become a mother, today they are encouraged to
pursue a career, go onto post secondary education, or run a business,

Essay On Emotional Intelligence

  • 1. Essay On Emotional Intelligence Crafting an essay on the subject of emotional intelligence can be quite challenging. This topic delves into the complexities of human emotions, cognition, and behavior, requiring a nuanced understanding of psychology, sociology, and even neuroscience. To adequately address emotional intelligence, one must navigate through various theoretical frameworks, empirical studies, and real-world applications, which demands thorough research and critical analysis. Moreover, writing about emotional intelligence necessitates a high level of introspection and self-awareness. • 2. Persuasive Essay Homelessness Ever since I was a kid, I always asked myself how would it feel like to be homeless. I never really understood back then how these people became homeless in the first place, but as I got older I understood why and how it can happen to anyone in a blink of an eye. Making bad decisions, hanging around the wrong crowd, getting addicted to drugs, being lazy, or just not having anyone around you to motivate you or push you. But for the most part you just don t know what people have gone through in their life s to end up being homeless. So I decided to try to be in their shoes for one day (literally) and see how that would turn out. I wouldn t take this experiment that far like living outside or anything, but to a certain extent. I d be too scared to sleep outside and be away from my house. So I kind of had an idea of how I wanted to test this experiment without actually living outside. I planned to not use my cell phone for the day which included the use of Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, or any type of social media that would connect me to the internet. I was not going to reply to any of my text messages, or take any phone calls. I told my family that I was doing an experiment and if they really needed me that it would have to be an emergency type situation. Ha, they probably thought I was crazy for this. So as far as how much food I get to eat for that day, I had some sort of a game plan. My plan was to ask my two older brothers who were home, but at different times

When looking at Night , ElieWieselwas helped by the doctors in the camp when his foot was severely infected; although this is not the experience he had, many Jews were mistreated and even killed by the doctors. Many claim that doctors were only advancing science, and others claim the horrid acts that were committed were done because of the hatred towards the Jewish people. Regardless of which fact is inevitably true, both situations caused cruel and inhuman treatment to the Jews, and ultimately led to their deaths at the camps. A civilian doctor named Carl Clauberg was famous for his sterilization experiments. The procedure involved injections to the cervix to destroy the fallopian tubes, and then often the victims were gassed and left for dead (Winik 9). When the Jews arrived on transports, Nazi doctors immediately determined who would be gassed and who would go to a work camp (Winik 8). In Auschwitz, Nazi doctors presided over the murder of most of the one million victims of that camp. Doctors consulted actively on how best to keep selections running smoothly, on how many people to permit to remain alive to fill the slave labor requirements ... and on how to burn the enormous numbers of bodies that strained the facilities of the crematoria (Gutman 303). In the book, Anatomy of the Auschwitz Death Camp, Yisrael Gutman offers a summary of the events that took place at Auschwitz: It was the Nazi doctors themselves, however, who were the most implicated in Nazi mass murder and brutal experimentation in Auschwitz. There probably has never been an episode in history in which

  • 5. The Cherry Orchard By Anton Chekov The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have. As demonstrated by this quotation from Vince Lombardi, a reflection of our worth derives from the effort we put forward. Stories of successful citizens rising from the unknown to fame, or poverty to wealth shows the common man that if they desire a similar outcome, there exists a possibility of attaining a higher social status. Occasionally, as depicted in the play The Cherry Orchardby Anton Chekov, instances where honest means to attain fortune occasionally arise. By utilizing dialogue and direction, action, and images, he makes clear the dishonest motives of the character Lopakhin, especially within the third act. In order to obtain a new status within society, Lopakhin creates chaos in order to ensure his future differs from his past, while controlling the destiny of those who indirectly oppressed him through the development of a motive and acting on his personal desires with no regard for the people around him.Without an initial conversation regarding development, there exists no possibility for change. The rally began peacefully, the iron bell was rung (usually it was rung to signal victories in football games) and one speaker started to speak. At this point the National Guard chose to disperse the crowd, fearing that the situation might get out of hand and grow into another violent protest. Tear gas was again fired into the crowd but because of wind the gas had little effect on dispersing the students, some of the protesters picked up the tear gas canisters and threw them back at the Guard. Others were throwing rocks and shouting Pigs off campus. In an attempt to disperse the crowd a group of 77 National Guardsman advanced on the hundreds of protesters with bayonets fixed on their loaded weapons. According to Ramachandran, too much of the Victorian sense of adventure [in science] has been lost. Ramachandran says that the reason Graham doesn t see anything, but can sense its presence due to damage in the visual cortex. In a case similar to Graham Young, Peggy Palmer suffers from visual neglect caused by a stroke in the parietal lobes of the brain. Dr. Ramachandran explains that parietal lobes create a three dimensional layout of the world around us, which allows us to navigate our direction. The patient can see, but only on one side or the other, i.e. she only sees half of what is really there. During an experiment where the patient was asked to draw a picture of a daisy from memory, she was only able to draw the right half of the daisy. Until, it was brought to her attention, she had no idea that she was only drawing half of the picture. This gives us evidence that there is not only a sensory problem, but a problem of consciousness. With 30 areas in the brain for seeing, visual input divides into two parallel streams of processing. One called the How pathway, is concerned with navigation and the other called the What pathway is concerned with recognition. David Silvera has damage to the What pathway and has been diagnosed with Capgras Syndrome. The patient does not recognize familiar people and places. He contends that his parents are not who they say they are and does not recognize his own home. The patient sometimes refers to himself as he was not David. He does recognize his parent s

Slavery is a serious and very rough topic due to the horror stories of beatings and how poorly some of the slaves were treated. That was not the case for all slaves, in fact some slaves had it easier than others depending on the overseers and the behavior of the slaves. Some were treated well and had love interests with their owners and some would look more to their religion of Christianity for how they should treat their slaves, which was usually less harsh. There are many factors that come into play when talking about the life of a slave in the south before the Civil War. In this paper I will talk a lot about different ways and reasons why slaves were treated the way they were, how the newspaper talks about the slave life and what the true meaning of The Longest Memory is. Slave owners viewed slaves in several different ways, which can be put into three categories. First is the discipline category. The discipline category consists of a heavy hand which is used for slaves who disobey. Discipline with a heavy hand is very brutal. They use discipline to show the slaves that they need to behave because they will whip you as much as they need to in order to keep the slaves in line and stop trying to run away. Torture is generally defined as the act of deliberately inflicting severe physical or psychological pain and possibly injury to an organism, usually to one who is physically restrained or otherwise under the torturer s control or custody and unable to defend against what is being done to him or her. (Rejali 1994). The cases of torturing individuals are known from ancient times till nowadays in various countries and either officially or not officially conducted. Reasons for such activities are different, mostly they are punishment, political re education or revenge, they could be personal or not personal, in some cases people experience satisfaction from watching or performing torturing to other individuals. In such situations individuals are forced from inside by psychological pressure and need serious professional help. The final intentions of the tortures are also different, either this could be to kill the victim or just to prolong the suffering until it turns out to be fatal. Sometimes tortures were parts of capital punishment. The type of torture chosen, as well as its length and methods, depends directly upon the final aim. Some countries acknowledged application of tortures legally, in other countries tortures were prohibited by domestic laws and they subdued to international prohibition laws. Importance Of Comics And Gns In English Novels COMICS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS A POWERFUL TOOL FOR THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS IN INDIA Chumki Biswas, Ph.D. in English University of Mumbai ABSTRACT While the 1940s saw the Golden Age of Comics, the Graphic Novel (GN), a sub set of comics is now the fastest growing book genre in the US. The potential pedagogical value of Comics and GNs have caught the attention of the English Language Teaching (ELT) community. In the last decade many experimental language instructors have realised that Comics and GNs can be a valuable teaching tool in the classroom that can facilitate Basic Interpersonal Communicative Skills (BICS) as well as Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) in learners. Though there is substantial research expounding the advantages of using Comics and GNs for ELT, these texts have not yet become an integral part of school and college curricula. Against such a background this paper highlights the reasons why it is imperative that the Indian education system should include Comics and GNs in the language learner s curriculum. Authentic texts like Comics and GNs will help in acquiring language proficiency by increasing learner motivation, facilitating contextual understanding, elucidating on conversational maxims and providing input on cultural interactions. The narrative material of Comics and GNs is so diverse that it can appeal both to young and adult learners, while reducing affective filters and encouraging multimodal reading skills. Key Words:
  • 23. The Role Of Violence In The White Tiger By Aravind Adiga It cannot fairly be said that in Aravind Adiga s novel, The White Tiger, the only way to escape the Darkness and advance in society is through violence, as an alternative route to the Light is presented in the story arc of Vijay, the pig herder s son turned politician. Balram asserts that the murder of Ashok is not only the direct cause of his new wealth and status, but also the only possible trigger for his newfound social mobility. Yet, this is contradicted earlier in the story when he presents Vijay, the bus driver, as his role model for a successful person. Vijay, in order to achieve his elevated position, resorted to prostitution; despite not being a desirable alternative to violence, it is an alternative all the same and therefore violence is not the only way to escape the Darkness. Following this logic, it is Balram s story and the immediate increase in wealth that results from the murder of Ashok that best supports violence as the only means of moving into the Light, and Vijay s story is the best evidence against that point of view. Although Balram argues that violence is his only way of overcoming the poverty he is born into, Vijay, a manborn into status even lower than Balram s, achieves power and wealth without resorting to violence. Initially Balram presents Vijay as his role model, condoning the rumors of his prostitution in order to advance socially. He portrays Vijay as the first entrepreneur [he] knew of and a man who had made it in life (26), thereby

In his novel, A Clash of Kings, Martin depicts a dark and grimy setting in which war is a constant theme, a setting very much similar to that of Lord of the Rings and Beowulf. A Clash of Kings is only the second of thirteen novels in Martin s book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The first novel in the book series, A Game of Thrones, undoubtedly left readers with many unanswered questions. It concluded with the death of preeminent characters, King Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark. After King Robert Baratheon s unexpected death, rulers from different Houses across the Seven Kingdoms claimed to deserve the vacant position on his throne, which was referred to as the Iron Throne. In the midst of a consistent struggle to obtain power, Martin concentrates on four royal families: House Baratheon, House Stark, House Lannister, and House Targaryen. Each House has at least one member of their family that believes they are the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. The battles fought to decide the new ruler of the Seven Kingdoms was often referred to in the book as the War of the Five Kings. In his novel, A Clash of Kings, George R.R. Martin strategically presents the story behind the War of the Five Kings from viewpoints of nine of his characters, while keeping the readers entertained with persistent wars being fought on and off the

Job Analysis and Legal Implications Job Analysis Legal Implications A job analysis is a process to identify, to determine in detail, the particular job duties and the relative importance of the duties for a given job (Job Analysis: Overview, 1999). Judgments are made in the process about the data collected on a job. The purpose is to establish job relatedness of the employment procedures. This would include training, selection, compensation, and performance appraisal. The job analysis is used to develop training needs, compensation for skill levels, responsibilities, and required levels of education. It is used to develop selection procedures and criteria for performance reviews. The job analysis consists of different methods to be used in combination. The methods include review of job classification systems, incumbent reviews, supervisor review, expert panel, structured questionnaires, task inventories, check lists, open ended questionnaires, observation, and incumbent work logs. The job analysis should include duties and tasks, environment, tools and equipment, relationships, and requirements. The Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures and the American s with Disabilities Act govern the job analysis (Job Analysis: Law/Legal Issues: Federal Guidelines, 1999). The Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures requires a job analysis with validation studies based on job information review. It would be interesting to ponder the possibility as to whether or not the thought of later times would have the same ground that it has if it were not for these great thinkers that came before. In the early period of Christianity, the influence of Plato s philosophical criticisms of art can be seen in effect in Augustine s view of the imagination as profane. One can question as to whether Augustine s view of original sin would have been so negative if he had not imbibed the Platonic conception of the Fall of the soul. Alfarabi is probably the least important of these, he is primarily significant because he was a pioneer in the invocation of Aristotle as a philosophical authority (essentially paving the way for the Golden Age of Muslim Aristotelianism). He is said to have believed in the unity of the thought of Plato and Aristotle. Also, his work shows a confluence of their theories. An example of this is his claim that God is simultaneously identical with the neo Platonic One and with Aristotle s Self Thinking Thought . When we look at Avicenna however, we find the development of a Muslim philosophy more independent of theological constraints as well as an Aristotelianism less apologetic to supposed Platonic doctrine (philosopheruk). With this being said, Avicenna rejects the conception of a divine creation of the world in time and follows Aristotle in considering the primary aim of philosophy to be the study of being qua being. Algazali demonstrated a critical backlash against the Aristotelianism of Avicenna, within the Islamic tradition. In his work The Incoherence of the Philosophers , he attacks the inconsistency of the philosophical positions of Alfarabi and Avicenna with orthodox Koranic interpretation (philosopheruk). This work is significant philosophically because it does not rule out the possibility of philosophy de jure, but rather points to the misuse of philosophy by both of his predecessors. In other words, he was concerned with the philosophical ideas of the eternity of the world and the rejection of bodily resurrection, ideas which he regarded not simply as theologically heterodox but as the result of a misapplication of Aristotelian logical

The construction of a conversationwithin the literary text is forever a creation made by the author themselves. In the stories inception, the narration establishes Miss Brill s delusional fantasy, through the weather much like The Garden Party which begins on a perfect day. In Miss Brill, the blue sky which is powdered with gold and great spots of light shines down. The language evokes a description worthy of a painting rather than a true autumn sky. This is a purposeful technique by Mansfield as the sky is a symbolic mirroring of Miss Brill s attempts to cloud her harsh reality with delusions of grandeur and beauty. • 31. What Is Effective Altruism As A Philosophy And Social... Peter Singer, author of The Most Good You Can Do, defines effective altruism as a philosophy and social movement which applies evidence and reason to working out the most effective ways to improve the world (Singer, 2015, p. 4 5). Given this definition, who are effective altruists? They are individuals who wish to make positive contributions to society by considering their course of action in an objective manner. To make this clearer, Singer contrasts effective altruists from warm glow givers (Singer, 2015, p. 5). Warm glow givers donate to charities to feel good without truly understanding how their donations are utilized to help people. Hence, these givers will offer their donations not to the most pressing causes, but to causes that appeal to their heart. On the other hand, effective altruists do not immediately act based on their emotions. Instead, they take a moment to step back and critically analyze if a certain action will help as much people as they hope it will. In short, they want to target the most urgent issues by maximizing whatever resources they have for the benefit of a larger group of people. Since effective altruism is a movement aimed at helping the most people, who are these people that altruists hope to help? It is clear to me from this chapter that so far, the goal of effective altruism is to uplift the poor. In this chapter, Singer states that money will be utilized best if it is directed towards uplifting the needy in developing countries.

This game has been of great interest to mathematicians around the world since its introduction, including Martin Gardner who explores it in chapter eight of his first Scientific American Book of Mathematical Puzzles and Games (1959). The game is normally played on a board of 11x11 hexagons with two edges labelled black and the other two labelled white. It is a two person game in which both players (using black and white counters) attempt to create a chain connecting both of their respective sides of the board. This knowledge will hopefully allow the player to place ladder escapes (discussed later in the chapter), which will more often than not result in winning positions for the attacking player. The most common ladder formation, the bottleneck, is one that all players should familiarize themselves with. This occurs when there is a gap in between two defensive counters, and the attacking player must place a counter in that gap, which ultimately forces a ladder like the one depicted in figure one on the left. At this point, it would be wise to place an escape in the third row, to the left of where the ladder is about to form. The reasoning behind this is that the defending player now has to deal with a ladder escape and a possible connection to counters at the top of the board in C2, D3, and E4. All things considered, an ideal placement for the ladder escape would be C9. Figure two shows the placement of the red counter on C9 and the computer s response in A10. Can you now determine a placement that would secure a win for the red player?Ladder escapes, as hinted to in the previous two paragraphs, are of vital importance with regards to ladders and the successful formation of a connection to the edge. Without the use of them, ladders would continue to extend until reaching an edge and ultimately a victory for the player on the defensive side of the ladder. Similarly to ladders themselves, ladder escape counters

Terminations can result from employee misconduct, performance issues, and changes in business. Termination meetings tend to be stressful for both the employee and the person delivering the message. Nonetheless, there are some key steps to follow that can make this meeting easier: Step 1) Above all else, treat the employee with respect and kindness and remain calm no matter how the employee reacts. Do not argue with the employee. Be compassionate and respectful. Step 2) Conduct the meeting in private and keep it brief. Step 3) Have another witness present preferably someone from HR or in management. For international matches the field should be between one hundred ten and one hundred twenty yards long and between seventy and eighty yards wide. There are two goals, one placed at each end of the field. They are eight feet tall, eight yards across, and six feet deep. The lines that mark the sides of the field are called touchlines; those that mark the two ends of the field are called goal lines. Also there are five other distinctive lines. They are the halfway lines, the goal areas, the penalty areas, the corner marks, and the center circle. In 1908 soccer was put in every summer Olympic Game. Since 1952 Hungary has won the most gold medals. By 1930 the interest in soccer was high enough to ensure the success of the first World Cup. Even though only thirteen Countries entered that was still enough to have the first World Cup. Soccer didn t come to the United States until 1620. Soccer first became recognized in the United States when the National Collegiate Athletic
  • 42. Characterization Of Harrison Bergeron In 2081 And Harrison... Characterization of Harrison Bergeron in 2081 and Harrison Bergeron Comparing and contrasting Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron and Chandler Tuttle s 2081 in relation to their characterization of the short story s namesake is an undertaking chock full of potential. These two sources are very different in their representation of young Harrison and this serves to completely skew one s preconceived understanding of his person, motivations, and desires. Due to this subtle but significant variation one can come to the conclusion that the way an individual is portrayed and the words they speak in different genres greatly manipulates others perception of their character. This is evident when one analyzes the monologuing and shot choices of the short film or the descriptions and dialogue in the story. A satirical genius not recognized as such in his early years, Vonnegut published what is now a staple in high school classrooms in 1961. This work is named for a character who appears only briefly, but in that time creates a very strong impression; Harrison Bergeron is a fourteen year old boy who surpasses most of society in every measurable quality. Vonnegut s brash description of Harrison depicts him as some monstrous being of metal and sandbags, reminiscent of horror movie villains of times long past. Despite his limited dialogue, the words Harrison speaks reinforce this image to a tee; he is a power hungry beast of a boy. Victim to delusions of grandeur,
  • 43. Art Room Painting Analysis Walking through the art room the scent of acrylics guides the nose. The moisture in the air is so thick, it feels as though a heavy blanket has been laid upon the room. It seems to make the smell of the room magnify until there is nothing else except the bitter smell of paints. The tile floors are splattered with paint and smudged with chalk, which seem to lead you through this humid tundra. Stepping through another set of doors, the world returns to the cool bliss of fall. Shaping knives, water cans and an assortment of paint brushes are splayed across the room on countertops and shelves. The wallto the left is lined with windows, where students always seem to be looking in, as if to experience some sort of brilliance. But what happens... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The painter picks up the brush, the grains of wood lightly caressing the fingertips, willing them to move. With one stroke, fine lines bloom on the canvas, they come forth like flowers during spring. Practiced movements carry the brush from one side of the canvas to the next, leaving a trail of color in its wake. Laughter and music dance through the air and taunt the painter with promises of distraction, but the brushes movements whisk away the torment until the world is quiet. The only thing moving is the wooden brush, its bristles moist with color. The window to the left is the only indication of time going by. Green to red, red to white. The scenery changes, as does the painting. Time goes by in this room. Has it been weeks? Months? Flitting past like leaves on the trees. The light inside you burns and begs to be set free. It expands until you are full of anticipating light. The only thing left on the mind is time. As the painting continues to grow and take root, the outside world begins to die. Winter is nearing. With the glittering hope of snowfall brings a new sense of passion. Sprouting from within and spreading outwards, it overpowers your body and

Yes, But the answers are different , he answered. It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was teaching us the allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do you think makes a small piece of diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is it its appearance? No. It s the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a diamond . A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he quoted. No pressure, No diamond. • 46. The Role Of Women In SophoclesAntigone Sophocles Antigone follows the events that occur after the legendary battle in which brothers Eteocles and Polyneices kill each other, and Creon becomes the king of Thebes. The driving action of the play involves Antigone s burial of her brother Polyneices, an act that Creon decreed illegal. When watching this play, a modern audience will not always consider the role or opinion of women in the 5th century B.C.E., and may instead consider Antigone s defiance as justified, because the modern audience will consider the roles and expectations of women in today s society. Furthermore, a modern audience may see justification in Antigone s defiance since not only was she burying her brother, but she was also fulfilling the decree of the gods, which she deemed to be morally right. Therefore, the differences between the roles and expectations of women will have an effect on the way that a 5th century B.C.E. ancient Greek and a modern, western audience will perceive Antigone s defiance of Creon. When examining the audience s interpretation of Antigone s defiance of Creon s decree, it is first important to understand how the two time periods modern and ancient Greek view the role of women in society. Firstly, women in a modern, western society have agency and autonomy over their decisions; whereas in the past women would generally be encouraged to stay at home and become a mother, today they are encouraged to pursue a career, go onto post secondary education, or run a business,
