2. How Did The Puritans Influence Political Development
The New England colonies developed quickly and rapidly through the early 1600s.
The colonies development was largely influenced by the Puritans, who had helped
found most of the colonies in the region after emigrating from GB. The philosophies,
ideas, and values of the Puritans greatly shaped the development of the colonies in a
number of distinct ways. Politically, the idea of a united, representative government
that later became a staple of the US was derived from Puritanideals. Economically,
the ideals of fair pricing and the celebrated Yankeefrugality and thriftiness originated
from the Puritans. Socially, emphasis on church, religion, and community was
another lasting influence of the Puritans. Clearly, the values held by the Puritans
greatly influenced the political, economic, and social development of the New
Englandcolonies from 1630 to 1660. The Puritans greatly impacted the political
development of the New England colonies. Firstly, the idea of a representative
government was derived from Puritan ritual. Much as the Puritans believed the
congregation should elect the reverend, the Puritans also believed that the
government should get its power from the people. This experiment in democracy was
one of the hallmarks of Puritan influence on the New England colonies. Extending
that idea was the idea of unity, politically speaking. As said by John Winthrop, Wee

A Day That I Will Remember Forever
It was one of the last breezy afternoons of summer before I started middle school, and
I had just gotten back for summer hockey practice. Ring...ring...ring the phone goes
Ring...ring...ring, I pick up the phone to hear Ally s voice .
Hi, she said.
Hey, what s up, I replied.
Not much I was just wondering if you could to hangout? Ally asked.
Yeah, I can, I answered, I just have to take a quick shower, so I will come down
when I am done at around 12ish.
Ok, that s fine, She said, see you then, bye.

Ok, I said as I nodded my head, race you up .
Like Ally, I started running towards the stairs by the front door. Having a little bit
of a head start to my advantage, I rounded the corner and started up the stairs.
Suddenly, BAM I lost my footing and fell face first onto the carpet staircase. My
right foot slammed into the wooden prongs on the side. After the accident, I let out a
small scream, it felt like a million mains were just jammed into my foot. Ally was
right behind me, but stopped just in time. Across the hall, Ally s mom came racing to
the stairs from the office.
Are you ok? Ally asked in concern.
Yeah I think so, it just really hurt, I replied as I stood up, not knowing what I just
did I walked slowly up the stairs. Ally s mom gave me an ice pack just in case, but
when it touched my skin, it felt like icicles were stabbing into my foot. Ally and I
started talking, we still had about 2 hours before my mom came to pick me up to go
to swimming lessons. About 2 hours later, the doorbell rang; my mom was here to
pick me up. Unlike before, I got up but when I put pressure on my foot I was in a
lot of pain, yet I limped my way down the stairs and told my mom what happened
and that it really hurt. My mom said that if I can t go to swimming then we should
go to get it checked out. I climbed into the car slowly and we drove to the doctors.

Globalization and its Impact on Socio Economy in India
Dr. Mahendra Singh

Abstract:
Globalization was adopted by Indian Government during 1990 91 when Indian
Economy was in a very bad shape. It was, however, adopted not as a solution to
deteriorating Indian economy but to enable itself to get further foreign exchange
loans from World Bank as its foreign exchange reserveswere reduced to mere 3
weeks outflow. To rectify its ailing financial health, Government simultaneously
decided to amend its economic policies and go for privatization liberalization of its
economy. These decisions had immediate positive effect. However, globalizationhas
proved to be a double edged weapon. It did help government temporarily meet its
emergent need of foreign exchange but it has, as a by product, caused some
permanent damage to Indian Economic system and Indian social structure.
Key Words: Privatization, Liberalization, current account deficits, disinvestment,

ABSTRACT
The main theological function of the plague narratives in Exodus is to bring about
recognition of God to the Egyptians and the Israelites. The author of Exodus has
wonderfully used a well structured literary style ... Show more content on

Therefore, the plague narrative also serves a function of demonstrating who Yahweh
is to His own people. Israel must also know Yahweh as we see in Exodus 10:2.
Throughout the narrative, we see many allusions to the Egyptian gods and the
impotence of these gods before God of Israel.9 There are multiple gods in the
Egyptian temple. As an example, in the first plague, the Nile River was turned into
blood. The river was an important source of fertility to the land of Egypt. Thus, it
was dedicated to many gods (Osiris, Hapi, Sepek etc.) of the Egyptians.10 By
turning the river into blood, it eloquently reveals the power of Yahweh and the
inferiority of Egyptian gods. For the Egyptians who looked to various gods
associated with the Nile, this event would have produced many questions for their
faith. Even the magicians had to acknowledge in the third plague that it is the finger
of God as they could not replicate it (Exod. 8:19). As for the Israelites, the plague
narrative is a reminder of the mighty and awesome power of God who had chosen
them and kept His promise. A reminder that would help to strengthen their faith in
Him.
Each plague brings deeper knowledge and understanding of Yahweh. They are not
simply acts of judgment, but something that God uses to reveal Himself. Because
they are more than just punishments, they fail to actually secure Israel s release each
time. As signs , they are used to
6. 2008 Crisis Essay
Having said that, there was an even bigger surprise. Economists and regulators, who
are supposed to understand and use history, also did not learn from these
experiences. Perhaps they were blinded by the political climate of the time. It is
always hard to disagree with the established science of the time. After all, there was a
time when everybody knew the world was flat. Only the insane thought otherwise.
Thanks to government interventions (bailouts, wage and price controls, minimum
wage levels) negative market behavior was encouraged. Risk management was not
seriously considered. Effectively managing risk was still considered to be merely a
factor limiting profit making. The heroes of this madness included President Bill
Clinton, Congress, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 2008 financial crisis was the biggest crisis since the 1930s. What has been
referred to as the 2008 crisis, or the 2008 meltdown, or the Great Recession, has been
considered by many to have actually started in August of 2007.
But, more importantly, the 2008 financial crisis made the US economy, and most of
the Western economy, a bad joke. The West s greatest minds, and the West s highest
income nations, did not understand or anticipate the financial disaster the US had
created. People all over the world started suffering in 2008 and 2009. They would
continue to suffer for years. The elite had failed to appreciate or even understand
history s economic lessons. Economic theories of the elite assumed that a major
financial crisis was highly unlikely. They were, of course, wrong.
Various radical policy measures were used to deal with the massive 2008 problem.
These measures included the bailout of the commercial banking system, a huge
monetary expansion, and the accumulation of massive fiscal deficits. These
measures, particularly Bernanke s monetary experiment, may have avoided another
Great Depression. The evaluation of this issue will only be objectively decided in
looking back many years from now. Even so, by 2017, these measures had failed to
return a stable and robust economy to the

Middle school is a weird time for everyone I am pretty sure. The three year time
period is filled with hormones, drama, and stinky boys who have yet to learn the
wonders of deodorant. You find friends, lose friends, everyone begins to get their
first phones, you start dating , and you gain a whole new taste of freedom that you
never had before that first day. All is which to be expected, but the one thing you can
not prepare an 11 year old girl, who has lived in a tight perfect bubble her whole life,
for is the death of someone close to you, someone you have looked up to for over
half of your short life.
I have never been a person who favors change, I have had the same haircut, same
bed spread, same house, and same style my whole life. So leaving the safety of my
familiar elementary school and heading to the big bad middle school was incredibly
difficult for me. I was a week into the school year when my best friend of five
years, Avery, stopped showing up. I knew it had something to do with her mom.

9. Waste and Pollution
Waste
Nearly everything we do leaves behind some kind of waste. Households create
ordinary garbage, while industrial and manufacturing processes create solid and
hazardous wastes.
Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) more commonly known as trash or garbage consists of
everyday items we use and then throw away, such as product packaging, grass
clippings, furniture, clothing, bottles, food scraps, newspapers, appliances, paint, and
batteries. This comes from our homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses.
Each year EPA produces a report on MSW generation, recyclingand disposal. In
2010, Americans produced about 250 million tons of MSW, or about 4.3 pounds of
waste per person per day.

actually the second leading cause of death behind heart disease. Some people do not

amongst children from 0 17 years old. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death
by disease past infancy among children in the United States. At a very young age,
childhood cancer had impacted my life physically, mentally and emotionally. It
definitely changed my perspective on how I will live my life through on out.
According to the American Cancer Society, there are sixteen major types of
childhood cancers and over 100 subtypes. Leukemia and Lymphoma cancer are the
most common cancers that children get at a young age. Everyday forty six kids
are diagnose with childhood cancer and seven children die every day. Childhood
cancer kills more kids than Cystic Fibrosis, AIDS, and asthma combined! The
worst part about childhood cancer is that the treatment side affects can last a
lifetime for these kids. People do not understand that childhood cancer only gets a
small percentage of the budget for all cancers. National Cancer Institute budget is
around $4.9 billion and only 4% of that sum goes towards childhood cancer. On July

lives especially mine. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemiaat the age

Nobody could ever put a face to the so known, Jack the Ripper . Beginning in 1891
and finally evolving in 1891, ten murders took place in the area of London known
as the East End. They weren t randomly chosen either they all were street
prostitutes. As well as a case that they were trying to correlate the same murderer
with, so it was included in the file. The Pinchin Street torso , but it had no
association with the other murders. In this case they had discovered a female torso
which had been thrown away under a railway overpass. The search for Jack the Ripper
lasted for one hundred twenty years including theories and augmented debates.
The modern day forensics now and then were a lot different. Crime Scene
Investigation, Fingerprinting, and even crime scene photography were not used in
the police investigations at the time of the murders. There was also no social media
then to spread the word around about him and gather any clues.
All the murders in Whitechapel occurred in Spitalfields or the Whitechapel area with
the exception of Rose Mylett which occurred 2 1/2 miles east of the Royal London
hospital and was debated if it was a murder.

12. Relationship between Father and Son in Elie Wiesel s Night
Elie Wiesel s Night: Fathers and sons
Over the course of Elie Wiesel s novel Night, the protagonist Eliezer gradually
begins to lose his faith in God. He sinks deeper and deeper into the evils of the
Holocaust, first in the ghetto, then in the Nazi concentration camp. As Eliezer s
views on religion begin to change, so does his relationship with his father. He
begins the novel still a young boy, and regards his father as powerful and full of
strength. Gradually, he is stripped of his boyhood illusions as well as his faith, and
comes to regard his father as an ordinary mortal. He grows frustrated with his father
s physical weakness, and assumes the role of occasionally reluctant protector of the
older man, rather than the adolescent he was before. The relationship betwee
Eliezer and God, and his loss of faith in God parallels that of the loss of faith in his
father. [Thesis] One reason Eliezer comes to lose his faith is because of the way he
sees the human character of the victims corrupted in the death camps. In the ghetto,
there was at least some unity and solidarity amongst the persecuted Jews. In the death
camps, survival is the only priority. Eliezer s mother and sister are taken away; he is
left alone with his father with the men. Eliezer s father, ignored warnings of the
horrors of the death camps when the family was still living in the ghetto. Almost
immediately, upon coming to Auschwitz, Eliezer exhibits religious skepticism when
seeing the sights of the bodies

narrator, Holden states D.B. asked me what I thought about all this stuff I just

truth, I don t know what I think about it (234) Throughout the novel, Holden Caulfield

phony and corrupt. Holden has demonstrated his inability to recognize the patterns of
his mind and ignore the connections he makes with the motifs, allusions and episodes
in the novel such as the ducks in Central Park, Romeo and Juliet and James Castle.
Thus, Holden is a naive narrator.

ducks go. I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and
frozen over. I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo
or something. Or if they just flew away (16). Holden does realize that he
subconsciously identifies with the ducks. He sees the thought as insignificant since
he describes it as funny and he is not fully comprehending why the ducks come to
mind. The ducks are suggestive of Holden as a person which is Holden lacks

14. My Role Model In Life
As my father, Ladislao Trakal, one of my only role models in life, settles down
onto the couch, he reminisces about his college experience over a cup of coffee.
The same father who brought me to life, yet different than what he used to be. He
seems as though he were remembering a dismal time in his life, represented by the
lugubrious expression on his face, but one would soon discover that his woes were
only because of the challenges that he had to overcome throughout his timein college.
Now let us start from the beginning...
My father, like most students, had the choice of what job he would want to
partake in for the rest of his life. Due to his extreme ability to deal with technology,
my dad made a decision: to work the life of the computer and the cubicle and leave
aside any other field. Coming from a Hispanic background in the small but lively
country of Argentina, Trakal knew everyone and everyone knew him. From having
only one library in his town to being under a dictatorship until 1983, things weren t
as easy as they are now considering education and the effect technology has on it
today. Education those days was better and the biggest difference with nowadays is
that every student has a library at their feet, stated Trakal who was always extremely
fond of the unique technology sprouting during his teenage years. Apart from
attending a technical high school, Trakal would often spend long hours with his
family and friends getting together, barbecuing, and mostly

our domestic dogs. The anatomy and physiology of the dogcan vary greatly among its
different breeds but generally speaking the dog anatomy and physiology follow
similar blueprints no matter what. To begin, the dog transitioned from wolf to
domestic dog 130,000 years ago. Molecular evidence now shows that the dog is
indeed a direct descendent of the gray wolf, also know as Canis lupus. Dogs are

species is familiaris (Scientific Classification of Pet Dogs).
There are many physical differences among breeds of dogs. Selected breeding by
humans has lead to artificial evolution (Evolution of Dogs). There are
approximately 150 different breeds of dogs. Within these breeds and due to
artificial evolution, certain diseases or disorders can be specific to breeds.
Labradors can develop tumors, Bulldogs can have respiratory problems, Boxers
can develop cancer, and so on. As previously stated, though breeds can widely vary
in size and build, their anatomy and physiology is still that of a dog. Dogs have a
fourth head of their triceps brachii. This is known as the accessory head. They
walk on their phalanges, which are also home to their thick paw pads. Dogs sweat
from their paw pads and their noses only. The muzzle of a dog can vary between
breeds as well. An English Bulldog has a much more flattened snout than a Collie.
When a dog is panting, its respiratory system is regulating its body temperature. A
dog s digestive system includes the mouth, teeth, salivary glands, esophagus, stomach,
intestines, pancreas, liver, and gull bladder. These all work together to help the body
absorb nutrients, digest food, and eliminate waste from the body (Dog and Cat

The Degradation of Women in On The Road
An argument can be made that the women in Jack Kerouac s On The Road are not as
characteristically well developed as the men. Through Sal and Dean s interactions
with women, the reader sees that there exist two types of females in this novel the
benevolent virgin/mother figure or the whore. Women are constantly referred to in a
negative way or blatantly degraded and insulted by numerous characters. However,
Kerouac (through the character of Sal) exhibits sympathy for women. Sal does
occasionally participate in female stereotyping, but this is simply because he wants to

tired. He has been starving for three days now and of course eats everything in the
house. Then his Aunt s few extensive lines in the entire novel occur, and in a
decidedly motherly fashion she says Poor little Salvatore . She has fulfilled Sal s
entire need of her. She has been a mother to cook for him and fret over him. This
passage seems to point out the completely flat identities women were allowed or
perceived to have by the Sal. Women need few lines because the only thing they
need to say is go ahead and do me or oh, poor baby . The virgin or the whore; the
only identities men saw (Holmes 371). A slight twist on this is the character of
Terry. Though only in the book a little while, she has relatively lengthy dialogue
(for a woman) and a very significant role. She was the whore and the mother figure
for Sal. He got to make her in a hotel in California and she also got to cook for him
and fret over him while

Santiago s Journey
How to Read Literature like a Professor, by Thomas C. Foster, is like painting a
picture; with painting the first step is to paint inside the lines, but an advanced artist
understands that a picture is made up of not just color, texture, and shapes, but also
considers the purpose behind each stroke. Foster brings a different meaning to
reading a book and draws attention to the author and his or her intention. While
applying Fosters teaching s to Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist, the main character,
Santiago s journey becomes more than a journey it turns into a quest. Simple drinks
and foods turn symbolic into acts of communion and while ... Show more content on

Santiago knows that he is the protege and the Alchemist is his mentor, they have
respect for each other How characters are getting along or not getting along (Foster
80). Drinking wine in a foreign country where it is illegal, is an act of unity and
also Whenever people eat or drink together, it s communion (Foster 8). To Foster,
Breaking bread is an act of sharing and peace (8) Santiago and the Alchemist would
not have shared their last meal together on the Oasis if they had not wanted a peaceful
environment before their journey to come.
At one point, weather becomes vital to Santiago s survival. Santiago and the
Alchemist were traveling through the desert to get to the pyramids when they came
across tribesman. The tribesman believe that Santiago and the Alchemist are spies.
The Alchemist explains that he is A guide to his friend (Coelho 139). The tribesman
are still curious and proceed to ask about Santiago. The Alchemist says Santiago is an
Alchemist and he understands the forces of nature and wants to show them his
extraordinary powers (Coelho 139). The Alchemist continues explaining that If he
wanted to, he could destroy this camp just with the forces of the wind (Coelho 140).
Santiago spends the next three days trying to control the wind, on the third day the
chief came to him wanting to see him turn himself into the wind. Finally, when
Santiago and the wind start to talk, Foster s point of
22. Vasoconstrictor Effect
The beneficial effect of the vasoconstrictor as a component of local anaesthetic
carpule has been well documented. There are many types of vasoconstrictors that
differ in their selectivity on receptors. In particular, adrenaline remains the most
popular vasoconstrictor and it has a huge impact on the dental work in terms of the
various effects it provides when used as part of the local anaesthetic. 1,10
However, as with all drugs, vasoconstrictors interact with other medications or have
an enhanced impact on compromised body systems that make us cautious in using
them in some cases. 1,2 As a historical fact, Adrenaline was first discovered by Abel
in 1897 and was introduced to be part of the local anaesthetics in 1903 by Braun. 2
The purpose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Local anaesthetics are naturally vasodilators; that makes their action shorter and less
profound. Adrenaline with its vasoconstrictive role increases the depth and the
duration hence makes the action of local anaesthetic more profound. 1,2,3,4,9 This
action is governed by many factors like the type of the anaesthetic used, the
concentration of the epinephrine and site of injection. For example, one study shows
that the use of the 1% Lidocaine with 1: 100 000 epinephrine has better anesthetic
effect in maxilla if compared with 4% Articaine without epinephrine. The same
review reports a study that shows 1% Lidocaine without epinephrine doesn t have an
effect when used for infiltration in the maxilla.1 In the mandible, one study shows
that epinephrine in a concentration of 1:100 000 significantly affects the duration and
onset of action of 4% Articaine. The author argues that other aspects such as intra
and post operative pain and injection pain remain unaffected. Hence it is suggested
that when this property is not needed, such as in simple extractions of lower teeth,
IANB with plain 4% Articaine can work well. 11Another beneficial effect of
epinephrine is related to producing hemostasis that helps with the visibility of the
working area and hence increases the efficiency and accuracy of certain procedures.9
It is evident that this effect is primarily governed by the concentration of the
epinephrine and the
24. The Last Supper With Jesus And The Synoptic Gospels
The Synoptic Gospels describe The Last Supper with Jesus performing many of the
traditional elements found during the Jewish Passover as detailed in Exodus. Jesus,
himself, was a Jewish man and celebrated this tradition as a part of his faith, so it
makes sense that this final meal could hold traditional aspects of a PassoverSeder. The
three Synoptic Gospels seem to demonstrate parallels between a typical Passover
celebration and The Last Supper that Jesusperformed. The Gospelof Luke even calls
in a Passover meal in chapter 22 verse 15.
Joachim Jeremias , The Eucharistic Words of Jesus, comments that there are at
least 14 specific parallels between Jesus Last Supper and the Passover Seder as
seen through Exodus and the Synoptic Gospels. These 14 points include, worship,
discussion of the symbolism of the meal, and bread being consumed. The three
Synoptic Gospels tell of Jesus breaking bread with the disciples to symbolize his
body which is a parallel to the unleavened bread that the Jewish people were to eat
during their Passover meal. In two of the Synoptic Gospels, the group finishes
their meal by singing a hymn before leaving the room which follows Moses
command from God to the Israelites to worship Him after all the other commands
that the Lord had given them for the Passover. During Passover, the recalling of the
original event and symbolism of the parts of the meal are to be told and the same
traditions are to be followed as the Lord had commanded to Moses and

The Evolution of the Leopard Gecko One of the adaptations the the Leopard gecko
has is its defence mechanisms. The Leopard gecko is able to cut portions of its tail
off in order to distract predators while they make their getaway. If a predator
catches it by its tail the gecko can release the part that is captured. And while the
tail is disconnected it wiggles around for a few minutes as another way to distract
the predator. Its tail will grow back in a month or so, but the tail will not look the
same as it did before. The Leopard gecko have 100 teeth which they replace every 3
to 4 months. The teeth are obviously used to eat their food which consists of crickets,
roaches, grasshoppers, waxworms, mealworms, super worms, other insects.
26. Uniform Drinking Age
Ever since 1776, when the United States first gained independence, there has been
constant debate over how much power states should have compared to the the federal
government. Some argue that the central government should have more power,
claiming when laws are uniform to every state, they will be more effective. Others,
however, argue that if the states have more power that the federal government, then
they can enact laws that will address the unique needs of constituents of that
particular state.
Technically, the National Minimum Drinking Age Actdidn t force the states to
conform to a federal uniform minimum drinking age. Instead of overstepping the
boundaries of states right by simply making a federal law that outlaws anyone under

depends on location and education level. Although the education requirement for
applying to be an animal welfare officer is a high school diploma, university

The Skills Required
Most of the technicals required are animal handling. Communication skills are
very important for animal welfare officers because they work with people who are

Professionally the working conditions can be very difficult as they must be able to

29. Baroque Vs. Baroque Era
Baroque is a complex term used to describe what was thought to be a messy, vaguely
disgusting style. Potentially coming from the Spanish words barrueco meaning a
rough or imperfect pearl or berruca the term for wart , Baroque came to be a
generalized term for art, architecture, music, and sculpture from the 16th century to
the early 18th century (Klindt Jensen 2015). Not only was the Baroqueperiod long
lasting, but it was far reaching as well. From Holland to Spain, Germany to France,
the Baroque style began in Romeand Italy around 1600 and quickly spread to most of
Europe, eventually reaching colonial South America in the 18th Century (Fargis
1998). Similar to terms such as Gothic or Mannerism, the term Baroque began in a...

and instead had depth and spatial relations. Third, the change from closed to open
form: the acknowledgement of the viewer and the painting s relation to the
physical world with conflicting angles and the ability to be out of frame . Fourth,
the idea of unity in a painting where no single image could be isolated due to
lighting and significance. Finally, the change from absolute clarity to relative
clarity, the potential for a subjective painting, one which could be read as a story.
Painters such as Caravaggio presented their works as theatrical displays, with
intense lighting bringing the figures to the stage. Styles such as Tenebrism,
Chiaroscuro, and Leonardo De Vinci s Sfumato used fine shading and the drastic
contrast between light and darkness to bring dramatic elements to their works, as
though they had their own personal spotlight. Eclectic of the High Renaissance,
Baroque painting was an evolution of style, aggregating what were the preferred
styles from the past and adapting them to the painter s personal use. Peter Paul
Rubens, a Flemish painter, was one of the best known painters whom mastered the
power of the Baroque. His works such as the Raising of the Cross portrayed Jesus as
a heroic figure, with intense lighting and even more intense facial features (Scribner
2017.)
30. The Importance Of A Group For Women At The

The addiction group that I would be interested in leading, using a Stages of
Change perspective, would be a Support Group for women at the Maintenance
Stage of Change. The purpose of the Support group would be to assist and support
women to continue to maintain successful behavioral changes, anticipating
situations in which a relapse could occur and prepare coping strategies to deal with
stressful situations. The major focus would be relapse prevention and the
development of the skills that support and reinforce their own path in their
recovery. When developing a Support group that are a number of considerations
needed when. One factor to consider would be if the group was open or closed to
new members. Open and closed groups have their advantages and disadvantages,
but in this particular group I would have a closed group because, The regularity of
membership tends to promote trust as the team works on change together
(Walters, et al, 2002). Another factor to consider would be the size and duration of
the group. This group would be up to ten participants and would run for 6 sessions.
By allowing this number of participants it allows for the following: people
dropping out, people sick certain days, small enough for people to learn from each
other and small enough for participants to have the ability to share and participate. A
third consideration in developing the group would be If the group will be mixed or
homogenous in terms of readiness to change (Walters, et
31. An Project On Investigative Journalism
Methodology
My proposal focuses on a particular set of cultural practices, organizations,
productions, and identities, such as those mobilized by the performance of
investigative journalism in Chile in a post authoritarian moment. I am particularly
acknowledging culture s conception as a process and a set of practices and not a
collection of things (Hall, cited by Rose, 2016: 2), constituted by interworked systems
of construable signs by which culture is actually a context within which social events,
behaviors, institutions, or processes can be intelligible, thickly described , and not an
outcome of some measurable causes (Geertz, 2008: 36). In this vein, this proposal
recognizes MartГn Barbero s perspective in which popular and ... Show more content

That is, this project focuses on the culture specific, from the view of its players,
because people describe their world not as it is but as they make sense of it (Babbie,
2013). Admitting that this inductive bottom up strategy reduces its comparative
potential (Hanitzsch, 2007) and that cultural analysis is intrinsically incomplete
(Geertz, 2008), it rather gains from developing conceptualizations in a specific
political, economic, and cultural context. The proposal s aim is making sense of what
historically has happened in the field of Chilean investigative journalism and better
understand the features of this particular experience. Doing so, it contributes to
expand a research field heavily based upon Western literature, theories, and cultural
frameworks (mainly US and Anglo Saxon) that comparative perspectives are not
fully addressing particular historical experiences, geographical dimensions, or
cultural features (Hanitzsch, 2007; Waisbord Mellado, 2014). By understanding
culture as a set of entangled meanings, this proposal advocates for what Geertz calls
an interpretive effort in search of meanings rather than an experimental science
looking for laws (Geertz, 2008).
I borrow the concept of thick description applied to ethnography (Geertz, 2008) and
adapt it to this methodological proposal as

33. Essay On The Atomic Bomb
World War II was one of the most devastating wars in history. This war was
drastically different from all of the other wars. The reason being because the atomic
bomb was first used. The atomic bomb had been dropped on the cities of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki in Japan. At the time of the dropping of the bombs, the United States
public had no clue it even existed. This leads to the question, what did the United
States citizens think about the dropping of the bombs? The country was divided
between support for that drastic measure and criticism of the devastation.
Something so devastating can be hard at times to formulate an opinion on. Also, the
United States civilians were not informed of something that could bring such
devastation to the world. At the time, all they knew was that Japan attacked Pearl
Harbor and we had to retaliate. Consequently, this caused a lot of confusion, and
eventual opinions that led down both the paths. The devastation caused division
between public opinion. Opponents of the weapon were sharply critical and came
from all different types of backgrounds.
Those who had opposed it opposed it on moral grounds, and the devastation was
repulsive to them. Opposition was even found from those who helped create the
bomb. On August 2nd, 1939, Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard had written a letter to
President Roosevelt, implying that they should create their own nuclear program
before Nazi Germany. In 1947 however, Einstein had felt completely different after

35. Performance Management Reflects Organizational Goals
Introduction
Performance management is a process, which supports employee engagement and
where an employee s work reflects organisational goals. It is about achieving results
through individuals and teams to improve the performance of the organisation
(Armstrong, 2009). The outcome of performance management is visible through
financial performance, productivity, quality of the product and service, customer
satisfaction, employee engagement and talent retention. Performance management
offers competitive advantage and brings positive benefits including increased profits,
higher cash flow, and stronger stock value. Productivity is lower if performance
management is not present (Maley, 2012). To measure effectiveness of performance
management it is important to define the goals of the organization as well as
indicators of success. The measures method should provide balanced information
based of financial and non financial performance (Dti.gov.uk, accessed on 01/03
/2014). There are several methods used to measure performance management.
Armstrong, 2009 lists good ways to measure performance management effectiveness
to be KPI s, business results, engagement level or customer satisfaction. Another way
to assess performance management is to use score card, which can also help to align
individual performance with strategy.

In the book A Call to Action, Jimmy Carter talks about different ethical problems in
our society. Most of what is mentioned in his book has to do with women and how
they are treated and viewed. He starts the book with what he saw when he was a

childhood. He noticed that his town was interpreting Bible lessons to accommodate
the most convenient standards. People would be married to each other, but would

separate but equal ruling of the U.S Supreme court and couldn t believe that no one
raised objections. His friends and playmates would go to different schools, churches,
couldn t vote or serve in a jury. Jimmy Carter begins the second chapter by showing
his concern about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. World leaders signed
and ratified this agreement to protect human rights, but they are not being protected
and some religions have exempted themselves. Those relions are keeping women
and girls from having the equal rights as the men do. The agreement has led to war
if people try to stop those religions or countries from holding back women. If
nothing is done they will continue to be treated badly, but if someone says
something a war could be caused. Many countries also use war to solve many
problems that don t require
42. Cinderella In Charles Perrault s Cinderella Frozen In Time
Cinderella Frozen in Time: Why Cinderella continues be portrayed as a victim in the
era of feminism
Cinderella has changed so little over time that it seems we re still in the 1700 s
reading Charles Perrault s first edition. And yet it remains one of the most popular
fairy tales read to
Joshi 8 children. The role of women continues to be either the cruel, evil one or the
good, docile one while the prince continues to be the saving grace of the helpless
girl. The skeleton hasn t changed much as well. A damsel in distress, saved by a
knight in shining armor, who falls in love with her and they live happily ever after.
Does this sound familiar? This sentence might as well be a fairy tale. We ve seen this
over and over in Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.
I chose Cendrillon or the Little Glass Slippers by Charles Perrault as my fairy tale. I
grew up reading the Disney story book, inspired by Perrault s version. I can still
imagine the animated faces even though it s been years since I ve read that book.
My tale is a modern adaptation of Cendrillon, where the character is not weak willed
or naive. The main focus is on justice and on her relationship with her step siblings
and her Prince which is much more than superficial attraction. In Perrault s version,
Cinderella s father remarries after the death of her mother. Her step mother s cruel
treatment and aggravation is due to her own daughters unpleasant deposition when
compared to Cinderella s good
43. Dumas On Diversity
8.Throughout the entire essay, Dumas is stressing her belief that diversity is an
important thing in a life. She claims that Americans do not have enough diversity
in their everyday life. She has many points of evidence to support her claim and
argument from the very start of the essay when she says how kids made fun of her
and her family do to their names just because they were different from what
American children are used to. She states that some Americans when she lived in
Berkeley would flock to her just because her name is what we would consider
different or unusual. If there was more diversity in the U.S. she seems to believe this
might not happen or, at least, not as often. She realizes that many Americans
characterize her race... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe Dumas has multiple tones throughout her essay. Humor or sarcasm is the
main tone that Dumas uses, but there is also a bitter tone hidden amongst the
sarcasm in the writing. I say she uses sarcasm or humor for obvious reasons
because she is constantly using funny life memories to add a livelier impact to her
rather serious writing. She uses the humorous or sarcastic tone in order to keep
readers interested on what she really means. I truly do believe, though, that Dumas
is actually bitter towards America and the Americans living in it. She never flat
out says the things she hates about America because she does not want to offend
anyone, but she hints towards it through her sarcasm. When she says, America is a
great country, but nobody without a mask and a cape has a z in his name. And
have Americans ever realized the great scope of the guttural sounds they re
missing? Okay, so it has to do with linguistic roots, but I do believe this would be a
richer country if all Americans could do a little more tongue aerobics and learn to
pronounce... She is really stating that it bugs her and she almost finds it annoying that
Americans make no effort to be diverse and learned things from other cultures. This
is the time that her bitter tone comes into play but it is completely masked at first by
her sarcastic
44. Essay on Beat Movement In Relation To On The Road
The Beat Movement started out in the late 40 s and continued for another decade, it
would later evolve into the Hippie Movement. Many of the things that the Hippies
believed in the Beats also held to be true. The Beats had a great lack of respect for
authority and traditional American values. They would attempt to convince people
that this was the way to live life and to reject the way that they used to live. The Beat
Movement was mostly comprised of authors, artists, and musicians. The members
would attempt to influence and enlighten other people through their writings and
music, but their ideas had to come from somewhere, and this was where their greatest
problem came from. Members of the Beat Movement continually abused both drugs...

Here were the children of the American bop night. (On The Road, pg 241)
In the jazz clubs people were free to express themselves however they wanted;
whether that expression was through drinking, racial mixing, the art and free form
of jazz or even experimenting sexually. Yet before the time of the Beat Movement,
only alcoholics in America would indulge in excessive drinking; but the Beats
basically made that a cornerstone of their society. Americans are always drinking in
crossroads saloons on Sunday afternoon; they bring the kids; they grabble and drawl
over brews; everything s fine. Come nightfall the kids start crying and the parents
are drunk. They go weaving back to the house. (On The Road, pg 92)

Students included domestic and international undergraduate, Master s, and doctoral
students, post docs, and visiting scholars. Above 50 % of students who came to the
CSTW were ESL students. Writing genres my students brought covered college
compositions, research papers, conference papers and posters, Master s theses,

online and face to face situations, and issues of giving tutorials in online situations
and to ESL students. This work experience enables me to design and teach writing

46. Thomas Mor Museum Analysis
I chose to write about the art piece by Thomas Moran after going to the Museum of
Fine Arts in Houston. While walking through the buildings I saw a mass of artwork
that ranged from gold artifacts to paintings. I have to say that it was a lot to take in
but I chose the painting by Thomas Moran called the Stranded Ship on East Hampton
Beach. I liked the paintingwith the raging water crashing on the beach with the
stranded ship in the distance. I really like the contrast of the dark waves with the
white spray on the beach and white caps on the waves. It seems to tell how
dangerous the waves can be but there is a lot of flow. The waves seem to be choppy
but big and dangerous but I can feel the sense of movement and the windblowing. It...

Both paintings were purchased by Congress to be displayed in the Washington
Capital and was purchased for $10,000 a piece4. This price was unheard of at the

landscape was awesomely beautiful instead of the thinking it as a hellish land . His
paintings make it feel real, almost as if you are there experiencing it for yourself.
Viewing his paintings make me feel like I want to visit these places for
