Advantages Of Production Planning And Scheduling
SCHEDULING AND PRODUCTION PLAN
To maximize productivity, every company needs a sound production plan. However, effective
planning is a complex process that covers a wide variety of activities to ensure that materials,
equipment and human resources are available when and where they are needed. Production planning
is like a roadmap: It helps you know where you are going and how long it will take you to get there.
Here are some advantages of an effective production plan and scheduling.
пѓјReduced labor costs by eliminating wasted time and improving process flow.
пѓјReduced inventory costs by decreasing the need for safety stocks and excessive work in process
inventories.
пѓјOptimized equipment usage and increased capacity.
пѓјImproved on time deliveries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communicate the plan
After you have determined that you have met the criteria to start production, you will need to
communicate the plan to the employees who will implement it. You can plan the production on
spreadsheets, databases or software, which usually speeds the process up. However, a visual
representation is preferred as a means to communicate operation schedules to floor employees.
Some businesses post work orders on boards or use computer monitors to display the floor
schedule. The schedule also needs to be available to employees ahead of time and kept up to date.
Consider change
One of the many challenges of production planning and scheduling is following up with changes
to orders. Changes happen every day. You will need to adjust your plan in line with these changes
and advise the plant. Dealing with change is not always easy and may take as much effort as
creating the original production plan. You will need to follow up with the various departments
involved in order to rectify any problems. As well, computer software can be helpful in tracking
changes, inventory, employees and

The Effects Of Workplace Safety On Organizations And Society
Understanding the importance of workplace safety prevention is critical in the study of
occupational health and safety. Workplace violence is a term used to describe a situation in which
an individual experiences verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, harassment, or physical assault in
their place of employment or business related functions or events (OSH Answers Fact Sheet). This
is a common occurrence in many workplaces and has a significant impact on the employees mental
state, interfering with their ability to work successfully (Barling). Through research on the OHSA,
the Occupational Safety and HealthAct and historical data, we are able to explore the implications
of workplace safety on organizations and society. CCOHS, the... Show more content on

A survey conducted in 2004 demonstrated that 17% of reported incidents, or approximately
356,000 incidents occurred in the workplace. It is also estimated that only one in five victims
reported workplace violence (Violence in the Workplace). It is clear that workplace violence is an
ongoing issue that should be an immense part of occupational health and safety. The reason that
workplace violence is a significant topic of discussion is because it causes severe consequences to
not only the victim, but to other employees and the organization as a whole. Research shows that
when primary victims experience violence in the workplace, there is an increased risk of
developing PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder (Barling). For example, a study of 30 Irish victims
of workplace bullying reported feelings of anxiety, irritability, depression and paranoia (Matthiesen).
A few more symptoms of PTSD may include avoiding situations, activities, or people that remind
them of the traumatic events and difficulty concentrating or remembering information, which are
factors that hinder an employee s productivity in the workplace (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder,
2015). Workplace violence does not only affect the primary victim. Secondary victims are known as
the individuals that experience the same anxiety and discomfort as primary victims, even

Conspiracy Theory And Conspiracy Theories
Trying to find out if a conspiracy theory is true or false is the hardest situation ever. There s just
more and more theories being brought to light each and every day. Conspiracy theories are said to
be explanations for an event that is manipulated by a group of people, usually used to cover up
something that s true. As the popularity of conspiracy theoriesblew up, they seemed to become
more hostile. Today s conspiracy theories seem to be believed by anyone, rather the information
is legit or not. Some are too weird to even believe in them and some aren t even close to being
normal. Knowing that some theories are true and some are false, it would be a crime to just
ignore these conspiracies. There are a lot of questions behind conspiracies. What is the type of
people creating these theories? What is the real definition? What keeps people so attached to
something that s widely talked about from different perspectives? An interesting quote that
connects with this topic is The main thing that I learned about conspiracy theories, is that
conspiracy theorists believe in a conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the
world is that it is actually chaotic. The truth is that it is not The Illuminati, or The Jewish Banking
Conspiracy, or the Gray Alien Theory. The truth is far more frightening Nobody is in control. The
world is rudderless. Truly no one knows if they re correct, no one knows anything. It s all just a
theory.

Hare V Van Brugge Case Summary
Do the terms of the easement require Mr Hogg to allow you to continue to be able to use the
inclinator?
To begin contextualisation of the situation in terms of the ownership of the inclinator it vital.
Firstly, the inclinator itself is a fixture located within the boundaries of Mr Hogg s property, and
thus the nature of the item is fully owned by Mr Hogg for the remainder of his ownership of the
estate. Given this, as the inclinator is a fixture of the land it should be passed on for use by the
next person the estate falls under, according to the privacy of estate. Secondly, the inclinator was
installed in 1979 and at the time, was used by the owners of both lots, without any easement being
constructed. However, as it is an existed when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the cost of repairing under sharing the cost of maintenance and repair is obligated in
this particular situation to be equally split between both yourself and Mr Hogg. This is further
established in the case of Hare v van Brugge [2013] NSWCA 74 where the judge had found the
same result and that it is the shared duty of both the parties servant and dominant to preserve and
maintain the inclinator in this scenario as the dominant (you) have the obligation to maintain

The Unfortunate Events of the Apollo 13 Mission
Apollo 13 was one of the unlucky missions with an explosion and an unfortunate accident. All of
the unfortunate event from apollo 13 was seen to be caused by the actual number of 13. Most
individuals reference the number 13 with terrible luck. Apollo 13 was propelled precisely at
1:13pm from the Kennedy Space Center, on April eleventh, 1970. The sum of the launch date s
digits assuming that they are all added from left to right, 4/11/70, is equal to the number 13 and the
blast that happened on the apollo 13spacecraft happened on the 13th of april..Apollo 13 was one of
7 manned missions that entered into outer space. During the preparation for the launch of apollo 13
A lot of, what you could say misfortune happened, such as equipment going missing, engines not
working and the struggle to load the craft the take off was soon dubbed to be an Ominous trip .
2 days after the spaceship launched there was an explosion causing the Service Module portion
was demolished , and that caused the crew to lose their oxygen and electricity. The supplies of the
ship were only suppose to supply them for a total of 45 hours. The astronauts thought it through
,and savored supplies, using the shelter for 90 hours instead of 45. To do this, they needed to
spare water for the cooling framework. The astronauts water admission was down to six ounces
every day! The group lost what added up to more than 30 pounds in that short amount of time and
became severely dehydrated.Truth be told,

Why Is Louis Sullivan Important To Chicago
Louis Sullivan revolutionized architecture, redefining art in building form. His work in the late
1800s became known across the country and brought many to Chicago, either to see his grand
creations or study the architect himself. Louis Sullivan was born in Boston on September 3rd,
1856 and began work in Chicago in 1875 for several architecture firms. He joined Adler s firm in
1879, where his major work began. Sullivan s skill in artistic design and Adler s talent for business
matters and marketing made the firm very successful, and together they created many buildings
across Chicago, eventually playing a part in the 1893 World s Fair, (although the architecture did
not meet his expectations). Louis Sullivanwas greatly important to Chicago in that he left a lasting
effect on the city and country with both his incredible architecture and his strong, innovative ideas
about the future of architecture, ideas which gave birth to great new forms such as the skyscraper.
Louis Sullivan was born in Boston, where he lived for his first 10 years. His parents were Irish
immigrants who had moved to Boston. At age 12 he was already determined to become an
architect, his impatience with classroom education moved him from school to school, as he spent
only one year at MIT, where he studied under William Ware, an architect famous for his Victorian
Gothic building style. Sullivan left for Philadelphia in 1873 and worked with the firm of Furness
and Hewitt until work slowed due to the

A tactic is a means by which a strategy is implemented. For each of your company s objectives
you need to come up with possible strategies to achieve them. You then need to write tactics for
each of the functional areas of your firm to implement those strategies. For example, your
objective might be to increase sales revenue by 20% over the next three years. You then might
formulate three strategies, a general price increase of 10% for all of your products, an increase in
marketing budgets, a new product launch. Each functional area will then need a series of tactics to
implement each year for the next three years. For example in year one your marketing tactics
might be to implement the 10% price rise and to increase TV advertising expenditure by 20%.
Developing a Product Strategy
The company President has given you complete freedom to manage your firm s product. However
they have recommended that you choose to initially implement one of three product strategies:
A) HIGH PRICE, LOWER VOLUME
Increase your price by up to 10% (i.e. $550 $605) and increase your Product
Promotion expenditure by $500,000 $1,000,000.
B) MEDIUM PRICE, MEDIUM VOLUME
Change your price by less than 1% (i.e. $545 $555), and increase your Product
Promotion expenditure by $250,000 $500,000.
C) LOW PRICE, HIGHER VOLUME
Decrease your price by up to 5% (i.e. $522 $550) and increase your Product
Promotion expenditure

Lust By Simon Blackburn Quotes
Lust: the seven deadly sins by Simon Blackburn is part of a seven book series covering the seven
deadly sins. In the book Blackburn takes a wide ranging, historical approach, discussing lust as
viewed by Aristophanes and Plato, lust in the light of the Stoic mistrust of emotion, and the
Christian fear of the flesh that catapulted lustto the level of deadly sin. He describes how
philosophical pessimists like Schopenhauer and Sartre contributed to our thinking about lust and
explores the false starts in understanding lust represented by Freud, Kinsey, and modern
evolutionary psychology. ( Lust. Google Books. Oxford University Press, n.d. Web. 1 May 2017. .)

An assumption could be made based off of how he views other philosophers and people he has
decided to write about but without any actual interaction it is hard to tell his personality toward
others. In the chapter introduction of the book he says It is not a task to undertake lightly, and I
have to ask questions of myself. Do I really want to draw aside the curtains and let light disperse the
decent night that thankfully veils our embarrassments? Am I to stand alongside the philosopher
Crates, the Cynic, who believing that nothing is shameful, openly copulated with his wife
Hipparchia? Certainly not, but part of the task is to know why not. (Blackburn, Simon.
Introduction. Lust: The Seven Deadly Sins. Oxford: Oxford UP, 2004. 4. Print.) This makes it
explicitly clear in the beginning of the book that Blackburn is going to take factual, historical
information, analyze it and give his opinions based on what he believes is

Analysis Of Follower By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney s poems Digging and Follower focus on family life, tradition and the pride
Haney feels towards his family, particularly his father and grandfather. They also talk of
generation, role reversal and the passing of the time. The poems describe his father and
grandfather working on the farm and the admiration Heaney feels towards them. This essay will
analyse the techniques Heaney used to convey his deep pride and admiration for his family.
Throughout Follower Heaney consistently describes the strong sense of pride he feels towards his
father.
All I ever did was follow
Is an excellent example of this pride. Heaney uses a hyperbole (all I ever did) to show how much
he looked up to his father and wanted to be him. This child like ... Show more content on

It also shows that despite being a hard worker, Heaney s father always had time for his son.
Heaney speaks frequently about his father s skill.
Mapping the furrow exactly
This is a connotation which implies that Heaney s father worked precisely and was experienced in
his job. It reflects pride as it suggests he was extremely intelligent, furthering Heaney s hero
complex towards his father.
Another example of Heaney praising his father s skill is show in this quote;
The sod rolled over without breaking
It is an example of assonance which helps build on the idea that Heaney s father made his work
seem easy. It also shows that Heaney s father was very technically skilled, once again showing that
Heaney saw his father as a hero.
Moving onto the poem Digging which shows the admiration not only for his father but for his
grandfather as well.
By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man
Heaney s use of emotive language (by God) shows just how strongly he feels about his father and
grandfather. It also suggests the ease and comfort of their

The Pawnee Indians lived in lodges made of earth while the Sioux lived teepees. 5. There are

During the book, characters such as Mister Tom change dramatically, we are shown through
their speech and actions that they change in order to fulfil a purpose. At the beginning of the
story, Mister Tom, a misanthropic old man, has a shy young boy, Will, put under his care.
Placed in a new and alien situation, he has to reciprocate, as he develops compassion and learns
to care for Will as well as taking on new roles and becoming more open. Magorian uses
characterisation to display to the reader Tom s progression, with points that are taken from
different stages of the book such as Eat up, I ain t got all day. , and I love you too, boy, he

needs. This is as his diction and tone have changed from harsh, rude and demanding, to caring
and loving. That clearly shows that his identity has changed in order to care for Willie. Very
early on we are shown he doesn t accept the inevitability of war and refuses to buy a gas mask,
however, soon after Willie arrives he purchases two gas masks in order to protect the boy, his
actions and morals being clearly shaped from very anti war to cautious in order to provide for
Willie. He later even volunteers for a role in protecting the town from fires,

Public Libraries and Technology
There are myriad ways a child may develop a love of reading, however in the modern era it seems
that this passion and hunger for not only knowledge but for the pure enjoyment derived from it
has been all but lost. I have children of my own that are not old enough to begin to approach
about this and most other children I see are too endeavored with their tablets, videogames and
social media to be concerned with it. I can therefore only speak from the one common frame of
reference I have and that is myself. In doing so, I will inform you of just how a child may develop
a love of reading and possibly shed some light on how children may come to have a love of reading
even now.
I had a wonderful incentive in the form of a persistent grandmother whom would always shut the
television off and put a book in my hands. I claimed that I hated the time it took having to read
these boringly annoying things called words in no less an object made out of paper, but the
experience began to far outweigh the reservations I had about the activity at hand. I was started
off with books based on real life events. Not very interesting to a child indeed, but one aspect of
children is their curiosity and desire to know more, inquiring about the hows and whys of things,
the way they are, who was that and where did they come from. My own thirst for knowledge not
only grew but expanded beyond the simple trappings of my grandmother s personal collection and
so she decided to bring me to a public library

Nursing Code Of Ethics Case Study
My thoughts about the role of the professional nurse embrace many behaviors and attitudes that can
be recognize as belonging to any level nurse; accordingly, are depicted through our nursing code of
ethics. Nonetheless, these behaviors include the privilege and responsibility to care for those in
need with dignity and justice, regardless of ethnic background and or socioeconomic status. Hence,
respect, integrity, accountability, responsibility, modesty, and altruism, are all behaviors that serve
as a foundation for other behaviors that enhance the nurseability to provide quality, patient centered

Training Day Analysis
Training Day is a LAPD movie, but the plot makes it stand out. It s a story of a rookie cop who
has his mind set on a goal. Alonzo, (Denzel Washington), a veteran cop who can get him there.
The movie follows the cop duo, which feels like End of Watch, and both movies have the same
writer. Training Day is action packed, and makes you think because it sends a message to the
audience and the character. I like this movie too because it asks the audience what s right and
what s wrong. I would also like to mention that everyone is crooked, yet Jake (the rookie cop)is
honest. Alonzo stole money from a drug dealer to bribe a crooked judge to get a warrant to break
into a richer drug dealer house and to steal his money, so he can bribe russians to... Show more

It made really made me think if what the characters are doing morally wrong. Both cops handle
justice a different way and no one taught Jake that the world is cruel, and twisted. This
eventually causes the climactic intense ending, and will keep your eyes glued to the screen.
Although I enjoy this movie there is somethings that could be better. For instance the movie has
a slow start. I m not going to lie, I did skip a bit to the ride along, for it was boring. I also would
make a scene more believable, but I digress because if it was the movie wouldn t be able to
continue. Overall this movie contained major keys to make it interesting. I love rated R movies
because they are actually interesting and keep me in the edge of my seat. If this movie wasn t
as blunt as it is I probably wouldn t like it. Usually I would recommend R movies to 10 and up,
but I saw it before when I was younger. I had no idea what was going on, and I didn t understand
the message it was sending. So I would probably recommend it to 14 and up, for some children
won t see the message. MPAA rated Training Day rated R, for it s brutal violence, pervasive
language, drug content, and brief nudity. Overall this is a entertaining movie that doesn t
disappoint. 9/11 would watch

Michael Dwayne Vick was drafted first overall in the 2001 draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Vick
brought a skill set that the NFL had never seen before. He gave the quarterback a new meaning,
besides just throwing. Vick could pass with pinpoint accuracy but he could also run the ball. It
was something that was unheard of in the NFL then. He was leading the NFL in passing and
rushing. He was on top of the NFL world, and then his major flaw came into effect. His major
flaw was that he got into illegal dog fighting. He had this whole business dedicated to dog fighting.

Similarities Between Captain America And Beowulf
When someone thinks of a superhero, they think of someone that is strong and immortal. Someone
that can t be defeated yet, they go into battle with as much bravery as someone that goes into battle
knowing they CAN be defeated. Every superhero has traits that make them great, but they also
differ in many things as well. Although Captain Americaand Beowulf are similar in their
weaknesses, strengths, and bravery, they also differ in their motivations, character traits, and
heroics, making Captain America the better hero. All superheroes have weaknesses. Whether it s
physically or mentally, they all have weaknesses that they struggle with that try to prevent them
from being the best that they can be. Captain America and Beowulf share a similar weakness of
the ability to get mortally wounded, due to the fact that they are both regular human beings. The
advantage of Captain America though is that, due to the soldier serum, Captain America s age is
slowed down (Frost). This is so important because this was a major factor in why Beowulf died.
Because Beowulf was growing old, he wasn t as strong as he used to be. Therefore he wasn t
strong enough to fight the dragon (Beowulf 800 805). Unlike Beowulf, Captain America s slow
aging advantage will allow him to have strength and abilities that will allow him to fight for a long
time. Just as superheroes have weaknesses, they all have strengths too. Although it is said that
Beowulf is, ...greater and stronger than anyone in this world,

The Little Ice Age And Its Impact On Society
This report focuses on an event that occurred a long time ago, known as the Little Ice Age. A
description of what it is, how it began, how long it lasted, whether it was instantaneous or
consistent over time, and how it is related to climate change are included in this paper. What the
cause for the Little Ice Ageand its effects and impact on society in the past, present, and future are
discussed. Furthermore, the positive and negative feedback loops part of the Little Ice Age are
addressed, and any future projections of an event similar to this are also talked about. Finally, a
drawing of the various interactions between the event and each sphere of the Earththe Hydrosphere,
Biosphere, Lith¬osphere, Atmosphere is included towards the end of the report. There are two
interactions for each sphere. A conclusion wrapping all that was discussed in the report is
encompassed within this paper. The Little Ice Age and its relation and impact on the climate and
the Earth System are the major focus of this report.

Light Bulb And Immanuel Kant Essay
What does a light bulb and Immanuel Kant have in common? They both have to do with light
Kant moreso with Enlightenment, the era where reason and logic took place of tradition and
religion. In his essay entitled What is Enlightenment? he drew a distinction of reason, splitting it
into a binary of public and private. How this philosophical view impacts humanity, as well as
relates to my own personal life, is ever more abundant as time goes on. One of the largest points
Kant goes on to emphasize, practically the heart of the essay, is the concept of public and private
reason. He explains that private reason is done, not so much out of free will, but, however, out of
necessity. Someone employed at Taco Bell uses private reasoning to fold burritos or to stuff tacos.
In comparison, public reasoning not only includes freedom, but exudes it. Kant, in reference to
enlightenment, nothing is required but freedom. Public reasoning refers to our ability, and right, as
human beings to make our opinions heard, regardless of the duties everyday life imposes. To
continue with the Taco Bell example, said worker has every right to make their voice heard in...

Guns, Germs, And Steel
Guns, Germs, and Steel
In his work, Guns, Germs, and Steel (W. W. Norton, New York, NY, 1997) Jared Diamond
attempts to explain why human history has carried out the way it has, he often refers to accounts
from history to support his argument. Accounts that will be deemed adequate will discuss specific
groups of people, at a specified period of time. Diamond suggests that guns, germs, and steel are
three contributing factors for why the world is in its current state. It is not difficult to recognize
while reading, that the book spends a large amount of time talking about germs and much less text
discussing guns and steel. In Guns, Germs, and Steel Diamond does adequately account for the
historical development of guns and steel, in the way he accounts for the role of germs in the
history of human societies. It is no debate that germs played a massive role in many important
events in history, but guns came late, were not very effective at first, and steel production was
most important militarily. Diamond goes into incredible detail, especially in his chapter The Lethal
Gift of Livestock of his proposed history of germs in relation to humans. He considers the
difference in domesticated animals in the old world and new world, attributes their power to the
downfall of the Incan and Aztec empires when he writes, ...the most advanced native societies of
North America...their destruction was accomplished largely by germs alone. (373 373, Diamond) It

Non Pharmacological Methods Are Effective For Reducing...
Introduction
Painful procedures are common for premature infants and research has found that non
pharmacological methods are effective in reducing pain signs. Pain is subjective and difficult to
measure unless vocalized, as infants are unable to verbalize their pain, their management in regards
to pain relief is suboptimal (who.int). It has been documented in many studies that premature
babies of a gestation of less than 32 weeks are subjected to approximately between 10 and 15
painful procedures in their first few weeks of life and more than 80% of those procedures are
performed without pain relief (Stevens et al, 2003).
When premature infants are exposed to long term pain they enter into a state of passivity, with
decreased movement, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Early studies of neurological development showed that preterm infant perception of localized pain
was non existent. It was also thought that neonates were incapable of remembering painful
experiences and therefore, they were not considered of understanding pain in the same way as
adults (Urso, 2007). This understanding came from four misconceptions about the neonatal
physiology. The first being that the neonatal CNS was immature, the second was that nerve fibers
required myelination process in pain perception, the third was that infants did not have pain
receptors and the fourth was that premature babies were unable to remember painful experiences
(Urso, 2007).
It is known that premature infants with immature development experience pain especially those
needing surgical treatment or those who spend time in neonatal intensive. Knowing how to
manage neonatal care is a challenge for healthcare professionals as it is difficult to measure and
due to the fact that neonatal systems are more immature than those of older patients. It is also
known that experience of pain in early life can have an effect on pain perception later on in life.
Analgesia used can combat pain experienced by neonates. The most commonly pharmacological
pain relief used for neonates are paracetamol, opioids, most commonly morphine and fentanyl and
local analgesia. It is noted that as well as pharmacological

The Equity Method of Accounting for Investments
Chapter 1 the equity method of accounting for investments Chapter Outline I. Three methods are
principally used to account for an investment in equity securities. A. Fair value method: applied
by an investor when only a small percentage of a company s voting stock is held. 1. Income is
recognized when dividends are declared. 2. Portfolios are reported at market value. If market values
are unavailable, investment is reported at cost. B. Consolidation: when one firm controls another
(e.g., when a parent has a majority interest in the voting stock of a subsidiary or control through
variable interests (FIN 46R), their financial statements are consolidated and reported for the

B.Payments made in excess of underlying book value can sometimes be identified with specific
investee accounts such as inventory or equipment. C.An extra acquisition price can also be
assigned to anticipated benefits that are expected to be derived from the investment. For
accounting purposes, these amounts are presumed to reflect an intangible asset referred to as
goodwill. Goodwill is calculated as any excess payment that is not attributable to specific
accounts. For the year 2002 and beyond, goodwill is no longer amortized. V. Deferral of
unrealized gains in inventory A. Gains derived from intercompany transactions are not considered
completely earned until the transferred goods are either consumed or resold to unrelated parties.
B. Downstream sales of inventory 1. Downstream refers to transfers made by the investor to the
investee. 2. Intercompany gains from sales are initially deferred under the equity method and then
recognized as income at the time of the inventory s eventual disposal. 3. The amount of gain to be
deferred is the investor s ownership percentage multiplied by the markup on the merchandise
remaining at the end of the year. C. Upstream sales of inventory 1. Upstream refers to transfers
made by the investee to the investor. 2. Under the equity method, the deferral process for unrealized
gains is identical for upstream

How Did The California Gold Rush Affect America
The United States of America is a country deeply rooted in history, shaped by many significant
events over the past several hundred years. From the arrival of Columbus, to the Pilgrims, the
Revolution, the Civil War, both World Wars, and much more, these events have had a great impact
on the future of America. However, one of the most often overlooked yet incredibly significant
events in American history was the California Gold Rush of 1849. The discovery of gold in the
western territories prompted hundreds of thousands of Americans to venture west. These mass
migrations not only had many significant positive and negative impacts, but also created a
prosperous future for the desolate and unforgiving western half of the country. The California...

The great numbers of settlers moving west due to gold helped create hundreds of new villages, with
many becoming large metropolitan and economic centers such as San Francisco, Sacramento, San
Jose, and Fresno. The gold quickly turned many of these villages into cities that became extremely
important to the American economy. The discovery of the gold came only nine days before the
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, also making this treaty one of the most economically significant
treaties in American history. In addition, the United StatesTranscontinental Railroad was built
largely on gold money to connect the barren west to the rest of the country, and it ran through
Sacramento and San Francisco as soon as 1863. Now, travel that used to take months to complete
could be done in days, only further stimulating the growing American economy during the industrial
revolution. American production and manufacturing in many different aspects skyrocketed and
helped meet the rising necessary national supply and demand. The quick settlement of the west also
reinforced the idea of Manifest Destiny and made beneficial use of the territory that the United
States acquired in the Mexican American war. In addition to domestic improvements, the gold rush
also benefited the economy on a global stage, as fast growing cities in the west created new markets
for food, goods, and other materials. The west would receive imports from South America, Britain,
China, and many more nations in exchange for their precious gold. The California Gold Rush
quickly became one of the most influential economic movements in American history as it further

Detroit: Is a Comeback in Store?
Reputations can be very deceiving. They cause you to think a certain way about something without
forming your own opinion first. Reputations are like stereotypes: they both make you conform to
other people s views about a subject without getting to know it for yourself. The city of Detroit
falls victim to having a bad reputation. The Motor City is known as being corrupt and left for

From low test scores to high schools dropouts, Detroit is known as the least educated city in the
nation. This can lead to a variety of issues, including a rise in criminal activity and the inability
for residents to make a positive impact on their city. In 2009, an article was published by Taham
Bradley from ABC News called What Is the Worst School System in America? . Bradley writes
in the article that We ve always known Detroit public schools were among the worst in the

Public Schools are horrible. These low test scores don t just hurt Detroit, but bring down our
nation, making our education system fall behind on the international scale. That is why
lawmakers decided to make a bold move and close down Detroit Public Schools for good. In an
article by Avi Asher Schapiro called Detroit shifts debt, launches new district with local control ,
it is mentioned that In early June 2016, lawmakers approved a $617 million bailout of Detroit
Public Schools to restructure nearly $4 billion in crippling debt. The plan will divide the
schools into an old district a legal entity which will pay down debt over time and a new debt free
district known as the Detroit Public School Community District, which will be given $150
million startup loan from the state. This plan is expected to turn out for the better, by getting rid
of the name and bankruptcy of the previous school system and replacing it with this more
improved and better funded one. Schools are the foundation that will teach the new generation of
Detroiters to be successful members of society to help improve the city for years to come. Detroit

Time Amendment Pros And Cons Essay
Time limits are a big piece to the puzzle that is the failure of the ERA. It is not very common to
find time restrictions on proposed amendments. Amending the constitution is already a long and
strenuous task to put in motion, and when one is forced to work twice as quickly because of a
deadline, the process gets even more taxing. If an amendment is going to have a deadline, it will
usually be a seven year deadline (Palmer). The inequality that are constitutional deadlines are a
major problem in the ratification process. Deadlines are only placed on amendments to try and
guarantee failure of the amendment. Often times when a time restriction is placed upon a proposed
amendment, it is a gift to the people backing the amendment, letting them know that the people
putting a deadline onto the amendment are fully opposed to their idea (Kops). The problem with
time limits are that if gives states time to run out the window for voting on the amendment. If a
proposed amendment, such as the ERA, has to do with an issue that could cause public uproar, a
time amendment can allow states to simply not vote on the amendment, neither supporting, nor

The Basic Function Of A Police Officer
The Use of Force
It is the basic function of a police officer to deal with any problems that might require the use of
coercive force according to Carl B. Klockars (Dempsey and Frost 2011). I feel it is how they
uses that force is what makes the difference between a good officer and a bad one. This first
example from (www.justice.gov) is of an officer that uses excessive force on a suspect that is
already unter control, the only good i seen out of this is that the other officer on the scene reported
his conduct to their supervisor.
This case arose from Boone s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill s arrest on Feb.
19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police
officers were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Boone
ran up to the group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill s teeth and breaking his
nose. Other officers reported Boone s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had
submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. On March 13,
2015, a jury found Boone guilty of violating Hill s civil rights by using unreasonable force .

The Constitution in all its glory holds, as the supreme law of the land , in that it controls the limits

Lightness And Darkness In Macbeth Essay
The Light That Shines
Francis Bacon once said, In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present . In
plays with misfortunate events, such as Macbeth, characters go through internal conflicts,
questioning good versus evil. In the play, the antagonist goes through the struggle of finding an
answer to right versus wrong, along with the other characters. His mission is to become king,
which leads him to a world filled with darkness where he extinguishes all the light that was there to
guide him. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, the idea of lightness and darkness are discussed in
order to exhibit purity and corruption through the characters Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo.
When Macbeth is told by the witches that he shall become king soon, he realizes he has two paths
he must choose between. He must either wait for things to fall into place and earn the crown, or he
must steal it. Macbeth decides to take matters into his own hands, and steal the crown by

Treadwell s Relationship With Animals In Literature
Human beings have always looked for similarities between themselves and other people as to gain
common ground. However people also attempt to make connections between themselves and the
more primal parts of nature. Animals have been along side people for centuries and them being by
our side we ve assigned them certain traits and meanings as an attempt to connect with them on a
deeper level. The Egyptians treated felines as almost gods in their culture because, after
domestication, they killed vermin which helped crops grow. That praise evolved into worship, and
gave felines new meaning among humanbeings. In many ways humans change animals to suit their
purposes in literature and as to allow us to more finely tune our imagination to the lives of
animals. Human beings don t have any idea what it s like anymore to be one with their natural
surroundings which is why we focus so intently on relating to the lives of animals. The more we try
to become kindred with animals, the more definitive the relationship between humans and animals
becomes. Our relationship is almost anything we decide it to be on our end of it, but as for the
animals they seem to fairly indifferent. We can say whatever we want to say about our own
relationships with animals, but they re not going to ignore their own primal instincts no matter
what we say. This is demonstrated through Timothy Treadwells experience with the grizzly bears in
Alaska. Treadwell truely believed to be a kindred spirit with the

Memoir is a record of events written by a person having intimate knowledge of them and based
on personal observation. It is an account of one s personal life and experiences, an
autobiography. It is really effective especially in catching the readers because the one who
wrote it is also the one who exeprerienced it. When we read a memoir we are reminded of their
power to connect us to something beyond ourselves. A memoir invites us to step into a life and
an experience that are not ours. Even if we have experienced something similar, we are able to
relate, but that particular experience is not ours to claim. And because we cannot claim that
experience as our own, it exposes us to a different and possibly broader perspective. It s that broader

the Jews feel about it. It doesn t give you the idea of what the pain they ve been through. It s just
easy to say that, Oh, there s a thousand of women who were killed but we don t even know why
and how the Nazis kill them. It doesn t give a great impact on the readers because they can t
relate to the story. Elie is brave enough to tell us in details about what is happening. He became
an instrument for us to know everything. Elie s voice helped a lot for us to know how it feels to
be an innocent person that is imprisoned. During the marching and in the situation of the Jews
inside the camps, they were abused, the Nazis took their stuffs and they have nothing to wear.
They didn t even given the opportunity to have a bath and they also suffered from hunger that
resulted to malnutrition. The evidences that shows how the Jews were brutally treated by the
Nazis and how the Jews were killed slowly by making them suffer from hunger and depression
really impacted the readers. By reading a story of a person you ll learn something about him or her

Virginia Beach City Operating Budget
Transit represents a little less than one half of one percent of the Virginia Beach city operating
budget. If light rail is built, only in its third year of operation will light rail and the associated
inflation drive that number up to just about one half of one percent. Virginia Beach, a resort city, is
a suburban community with many environmental assets. There are green areas to the south that
require protection. As the city is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay these
require careful consideration for safeguarding. Virginia Beach has very little in the way of land to
develop so thinking vertically is a strategic plan the city has embraced and light railis at the heart of
its future when it comes to a unified Norfolk/Virginia Beach Metro mass transit system.
As previous explained in the literature review of this study, those for the extension say it will spur
economic development along the designated route, help lower taxes through a wider tax base, and
create additional opportunities for transit. Those against its creation argue that light rail is an old
technology that is very expensive and will not stimulate economic development or move enough
people to validate the cost. A purposeful analysis, will examine whether light rail will improve the
quality of life for residents in Virginia Beach and if an incremental tactic in its construction is the
correct way forward. Regardless if the resort city remains a fiscally sound municipality, is the

Statement Of Purpose For Software Engineering
Statement of Purpose Choosing to learn software engineering was fortuitous for me when I had
to select a profession several years ago. As I studied software engineering more deeply, I began to
realize technologies related not only are very interesting but also have permeated into many fields.
After experiencing undergraduate education for four years and graduate education for less than
one year, I am extremely desperate for an occasion to further improve my cognition and practical
ability in computing science. Your prestigious program is absolutely an excellent platform to make
my dream come true. My major has gradually revealed the fundamental disciplines and inherent

During the period in the team, I grasped some basic and advanced technologies, met a lot of
difficulties and made some mistakes too. I extremely appreciated things I learned and friends I
met there. After graduation from college, I followed the former steps of living a normal life,
repeating learning new frameworks, using them and satisfying others requests. Then I began to
realize, this could neither let me research more deeply nor achieve anything I think that is worth
working. Moreover, most of my classmates and friends around interesting in coding concentrate
much more on how many projects they could have done or how much money they can earn other
than whether they think this is interesting or not. I think I need to broaden my horizon even if the
new environment would not be so magnificent as I expect. So I prepared the English test from
long before, though I didn t get a high score finally and then consulted teachers who are familiar
with the Dual Degree Program. Eventually I decide to go abroad for further

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Essay
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, normally abbreviated as ADHD, is a disorder in which a
person has trouble paying attention and focusing on tasks, tends to act without thinking and has
trouble sitting still. This condition may begin in early childhood and continue into adulthood.
Without treatment ADHD can cause problems at home, school, work and any social gatherings.
The disorder sparks up many controversies for the simple fact that the exact cause is not clear or
more over not well understood. Because of the lack of information of how ADHD is caused, the
most common controversy that this disorder brings is that many people believe that the disorder is
not a realistic diagnosis because of the increasingly number of children ... Show more content on

What are the different types of ADHD?
There are three main types of ADHD. They are the primarily inattentive type, primarily hyperactive
impulsive type and the combined type. A child with the inattentive type fails to pay attentionto
details and gets easily distracted and tends to daydream on a day to day basis. On the other hand
the hyperactive impulsive type makes it hard for the child to stay still for long. Mostly this child
would jump or climb things in inappropriate occasions. The most common type of ADHD is the
combined type. This type is characterized by both impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, and
inattention and distraction.
Causes of ADHD
Scientists are studying causes and risk factors that might contribute to the development of ADHD in
an attempt to better control and reduce the chances of a person having the disorder. Researchers
who study the brain are coming closer to understanding what may cause ADHD. They believe that
some people with ADHD don t have enough of certain chemicals, called neurotransmitter, in the
brain. These chemicals help the brain control behavior. However the exact or precise cause of the
disorder remains unknown.
Diagnosis
When diagnosing ADHD, there is no single test itself that can determine it. Deciding if a child has
the disorder is a several step process, which requires the attention of different professionals as well
as those surrounding the child on a daily basis. A pediatrician,

Persuasive Essay On Drunk Driving Laws
Essay 3 Drunk driving accounts for nearly a third of traffic related deaths in the United States.
Because of this it is perfectly reasonable for laws to be in place to prevent drunk driving. In my
belief, these laws are just and put in place to not only protect the driver under the influence, but
those around them. John Rawls would also believe that these ideas are just due to the law not
impeding on anyone s basic liberties. The laws are also the same for everyone, no matter the social
standing they are in. In the utilitarian viewpoint of Jeremy Bentham the law would be just as well.
The law protects the community and saves many from pain. When comparing the multiple
viewpoints of John Rawls, Jeremy Bentham, and myself, we all would come... Show more content

This speaks directly to Rawls s point, it does not take away the constitutional rights of anybody. In
my viewpoint this is a valid reason that the laws are just. They protect others while not taking away
any basic liberties from the driver. This penalty for driving under the influence is the same for
everyone as well no matter the social class. Someone who is poor has the same punishment as
someone who is wealthy.
Like Rawls s and my own view Bentham would also find the laws and penalties for drunk driving
just. When someone gets into the driver s seat of a car drunk they run the risk of hurting
themselves and others. When taking into account Bentham s view on the pleasure and pain
system this hurt would cause an intense amount of pain. The pain could be physical for those
who are in the accident or emotional for the family members of those who have been hospitalized
or have passed away. The laws that are put into place to protect people from drunk driving
accidents help make sure these pains do not occur. Even if the laws do not bring pleasure to most it
stops pain from the community. To me this is very important in making the law just. These stops
multiple potential accidents and saves many people pain.
Overall the three viewpoints of Rawls, Bentham, and I are similar in the ways we believe the drunk
driving laws are just. The laws are in place to save

The name of the case Wal Mart Stores, INC. v. Dukes ET. AL. in the United States. The case suits
to the research question, which is about discrimination. Wal Mart v. Dukes was a United States
Supreme Court case. The appeal of the case was done in the Ninth Circuit s Court. Firstly, Dukes v.
Wal Mart Stores, Inc. case, in which the Supreme Court canceled the district court s decision, then,
it was convinced that the lawsuit included more than million women as the plaintiffs, who presently

In this case, Betty Dukes, a female Wal Mart employee, with five other women, filed a class action
against the violation of civil rights by the Wal Mart company. The claim was that the... Show more

However, Wal Mart appealed this decision to Court of Appeals. A panel of three judges of the
Ninth Circuit confirmed the district court s class certification (plaintiff) in 2007. However, Wal
Mart was not satisfied with court`s decision and sued for a rehearing, claiming that the judges
committed a legal mistake in classifying the action certification. The Ninth Circuit panel
recalled its primary decision and issued a following, replacing opinion, which still allowed the
class certification. In 2009, the Ninth Circuit provided Wal Mart a rehearing for the previous
court`s decision. As a result, Ninth Circuit opinion was no longer effective. Supreme Court
agreed to hear Wal Mart s appeal as Wal Mart v. Dukes. Eventually, the Supreme Court made its
decision in Wal Mart s favor on June 20, 2011 by saying that the million plaintiffs did not have
enough in common to base a class (a group of several people, who sued the case). The Court ruled
unanimously that because of the changeability of plaintiffs circumstances, the class action could
not proceed as comprised. Critics of the opinion allege that the decision makes it incredibly difficult
to certify a class without a prohibitive amount of work on the part of plaintiff attorneys. The
requirement to look through the class to the merits requires an immense amount of discovery,
which was not previously

Essay about The Gospel of Thomas
Discovered in the twentieth century, The Gospel of Thomas was founded by peasants that were
digging for fertilizer close to the village of Nag Hammadi, Egypt. The peasants revealed a container
containing thirteen leather bound manuscripts that were buried in the fourteenth century. The
container contained fifty two tractates that represented heretical writings of Gnostic Christians.
Dated back to 200 A.D., there was not much known about the Gospelof Thomas besides that there
were only three small fragments from Oxyrynchus. The Gospel of Thomas is a collection of
literary works that contains 114 opaque sayings of Jesusthat were collected and written down by St.

For example, the Gospel of Thomas includes salvation by secret knowledge, polytheism, disregard
for the bodily appetites, and the thought of a blissful teaching Christ who is not necessarily human.
It is likely related to Sethian Gnosticism. However, Gnosticism is largely an umbrella term for the
beliefs of several movements in the post Apostolic era that sought out special knowledge.
Gnosticism is a term that is used for spiritual practices and religious beliefs. This term was very
common for early Christians, as well as Zoroastrianism, Hellenistic Judaism, and Neoplatonism.
The discovery of this Gospel, which was founded in 1945, along with the rest of the Nag
Hamaddi library is very revealing of certain gnostic groups that we previously had less
knowledge of. We knew of Gnosticism from other texts and witnesses to them (Irenaeus) before.
However, now there are many more source texts. There is also a difference between Gnostics and
Orthodox Christianity. The Old Testament prophecies were described as fulfilled by Jesus. That
is that Jesus was explained in the canonical Gospels as the Messiah. The Canonical Gospels are
highly Jewish in their language and references. They were written by Hebrews. The Gnostic
Gospels seem to be ignorant of the fact of the Jewish nature of Christ. They basically use His name
but attach it

Stress in Todays Society

Stress is a killer. There is doubt that stress can cause health problems. Daily stressors lead into
major health problems. Therefore if you can manage your daily stress you can promote a healthier
life. The American Medial Association defines stress, as being any disruptions of a person s
mental and physical well being. (4.) My position is that if you balance the stress in your life you
can live healthier and prevent certain sicknesses. Not all stress is bad for your body. It is good to
have some stress in your life. However, too much stress in your life can be harmful. Stress seems
to come mostly from psychological threats instead of physical ones. Stress varies from person to
person. For college students time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many ways to reduce or handle stress in your life. The easiest and one of the healthiest
antidotes for stress is laughter. Just smiling helps because it releases blood flow to the brain and
endorphins are released. (4.) This gives a sense of well being. Some other simple techniques are
doing uninterrupted breathing. Another stressor is lack of sleep. Therefore break the stress
sleeplessness cycle. You can help relieve your sleep problem by developing a daily sleep routine
and don t drink alcohol or caffeine before bed. Another thing is to reserve your bedroom for
sleeping and sex only. (4.) Writing down your feeling in a diary may help relieve emotional
stress. (4.) Time management is a major way to reduce stress. If you can keep a schedule of the
things you need to do and when you have to do them, this can open time for yourself. Try to
focus on the important task and then do the little things. (3.) Many stress experts suggest that
you begin your fight against stress by defining your values. (4.) Don t think that everything has
to be perfect. If you are a perfectionist you fuel a variety of stress producing qualities. (4.) If your
over stressed slow down. Try moving, talking and behaving in a relaxed, slower manner. (4.)
Some tips on how to slow down is to drive slower than usual. Wait five minutes in the driveway
before going in the house. All you need to do is relax and ease into the

Water Resource Management ( Wrm )
Introduction: Water is extremely vital for all forms of life, from microorganisms to humans to
ecosystems alike. Water is a key factor in driving economic and social development within
countries, impacting agriculture, energy, sanitation and health, gender equality etc (World Bank,
2014). For these reasons humans have invested an abundant amount of time, labor, and money into
perfecting water infrastructures in an effort to provide water services for populations worldwide.
Water resource management (WRM) goal is to manage and allocate water resources in a manner
that satisfies the demand of domestic, agricultural and industrial water sectors. Often left out of the
equation is the water demand needed for ecosystemsustainability. WRM... Show more content on

Ecosystem Services: Aquatic ecosystems play a pivotal role for living organisms, providing life
supporting services, along with valuable goods and services for society. Aquatic ecosystems are
able to decrease flood damages by storing season floodwaters. They supply humans with water for
domestic, agricultural, and industrial sectors and aid in recharging groundwater supplies, which is
an essential source of potable water. Furthermore, the recharging of groundwater aids in drought
mitigation. Freshwater ecosystems play a similar role to water treatment plants in that they filter
out pollutants and purify water. They support a variety of plant and animal life, which ultimately
creates a robust food chain, supporting human and wildlife consumption. Wetlands reduce
greenhouse gas emissions by storing carbon dioxide rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. As
mentioned above, ecosystems help mitigate water related disasters. Aquatic ecosystems provide
nutrients to estuaries, river deltas, and maintain soil fertility. Additionally, by delivering freshwater,
freshwater ecosystems are able to maintain salinity balances within estuaries (Postel, 2008; SRWP,
2007; GWP, n.d.).
Water Demand for Ecosystem/Environmental Flow Requirements: Aquatic ecosystems rely on
water to survive and if the amount of water they rely on dwindles, the ecosystem becomes
negatively impacted and the services they provide will

Cynthia Barnett Water Work
Among all of the resources in the world, there is one that we do not often consider to be
diminishing. The masses take this resource, water, for granted. When the average person takes a
single look at a world map, they see multiple blue oceans covering the Earth. But, although we are
surrounded by water, our clean water reserves dwindle rapidly. In her article, Water Works , Cynthia
Barnett attempts to bring this issue to greater light and offers her own solutions. While I agree with
many of Barnett s points, she fails to look at the arguments of her detractors to the detriment of her
already flawed case. Throughout the article, Barnett analyses the idea of water scarcity. She
accentuates the fact that aging infrastructure hampers our ability... Show more content on

Her argument is focused on the Pacific Northwest, our rainy marine paradise. She speaks to a
specific population, citing the cultural significance of the salmon in this area (Barnett 2013).
Unfortunately for her message, this ignores the ranging climates and situations around the
world, where her solutions may not be as effective. While this may be persuasive towards the
generally liberal population in the region that likely already agrees with her, it offers little for
people who live in drier regions. Even within the United States, I have my doubts that Barnett s
suggestions would work. For example, desert regions in California and plains in the Midwest
would not benefit from these ideas. The article s biggest failing, however, is the view of the rest
of the world. As Dr. Pierre Mukheibir, a civil engineer with over 20 years experience in the water
sector, points out in his article that about 1.2 billion people live without access to clean drinking
water. These people do not live in the Pacific Northwest, they mostly live in developing countries
in Africa (Mukheibir 1028). I think our resources and knowledge would be better spent focusing on
the lives of those suffering from the deprivation of human rights instead of pinpointing specific
areas and peoples in the United

  • 2. Advantages Of Production Planning And Scheduling SCHEDULING AND PRODUCTION PLAN To maximize productivity, every company needs a sound production plan. However, effective planning is a complex process that covers a wide variety of activities to ensure that materials, equipment and human resources are available when and where they are needed. Production planning is like a roadmap: It helps you know where you are going and how long it will take you to get there. Here are some advantages of an effective production plan and scheduling. пѓјReduced labor costs by eliminating wasted time and improving process flow. пѓјReduced inventory costs by decreasing the need for safety stocks and excessive work in process inventories. пѓјOptimized equipment usage and increased capacity. пѓјImproved on time deliveries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Communicate the plan After you have determined that you have met the criteria to start production, you will need to communicate the plan to the employees who will implement it. You can plan the production on spreadsheets, databases or software, which usually speeds the process up. However, a visual representation is preferred as a means to communicate operation schedules to floor employees. Some businesses post work orders on boards or use computer monitors to display the floor schedule. The schedule also needs to be available to employees ahead of time and kept up to date. Consider change One of the many challenges of production planning and scheduling is following up with changes to orders. Changes happen every day. You will need to adjust your plan in line with these changes and advise the plant. Dealing with change is not always easy and may take as much effort as creating the original production plan. You will need to follow up with the various departments involved in order to rectify any problems. As well, computer software can be helpful in tracking changes, inventory, employees and ... • 3. The Effects Of Workplace Safety On Organizations And Society Understanding the importance of workplace safety prevention is critical in the study of occupational health and safety. Workplace violence is a term used to describe a situation in which an individual experiences verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, harassment, or physical assault in their place of employment or business related functions or events (OSH Answers Fact Sheet). This is a common occurrence in many workplaces and has a significant impact on the employees mental state, interfering with their ability to work successfully (Barling). Through research on the OHSA, the Occupational Safety and HealthAct and historical data, we are able to explore the implications of workplace safety on organizations and society. CCOHS, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A survey conducted in 2004 demonstrated that 17% of reported incidents, or approximately 356,000 incidents occurred in the workplace. It is also estimated that only one in five victims reported workplace violence (Violence in the Workplace). It is clear that workplace violence is an ongoing issue that should be an immense part of occupational health and safety. The reason that workplace violence is a significant topic of discussion is because it causes severe consequences to not only the victim, but to other employees and the organization as a whole. Research shows that when primary victims experience violence in the workplace, there is an increased risk of developing PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder (Barling). For example, a study of 30 Irish victims of workplace bullying reported feelings of anxiety, irritability, depression and paranoia (Matthiesen). A few more symptoms of PTSD may include avoiding situations, activities, or people that remind them of the traumatic events and difficulty concentrating or remembering information, which are factors that hinder an employee s productivity in the workplace (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2015). Workplace violence does not only affect the primary victim. Secondary victims are known as the individuals that experience the same anxiety and discomfort as primary victims, even ... • 5. Conspiracy Theory And Conspiracy Theories Trying to find out if a conspiracy theory is true or false is the hardest situation ever. There s just more and more theories being brought to light each and every day. Conspiracy theories are said to be explanations for an event that is manipulated by a group of people, usually used to cover up something that s true. As the popularity of conspiracy theoriesblew up, they seemed to become more hostile. Today s conspiracy theories seem to be believed by anyone, rather the information is legit or not. Some are too weird to even believe in them and some aren t even close to being normal. Knowing that some theories are true and some are false, it would be a crime to just ignore these conspiracies. There are a lot of questions behind conspiracies. What is the type of people creating these theories? What is the real definition? What keeps people so attached to something that s widely talked about from different perspectives? An interesting quote that connects with this topic is The main thing that I learned about conspiracy theories, is that conspiracy theorists believe in a conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is actually chaotic. The truth is that it is not The Illuminati, or The Jewish Banking Conspiracy, or the Gray Alien Theory. The truth is far more frightening Nobody is in control. The world is rudderless. Truly no one knows if they re correct, no one knows anything. It s all just a theory. The New World Order also ... Firstly, the inclinator itself is a fixture located within the boundaries of Mr Hogg s property, and thus the nature of the item is fully owned by Mr Hogg for the remainder of his ownership of the estate. Given this, as the inclinator is a fixture of the land it should be passed on for use by the next person the estate falls under, according to the privacy of estate. • 9. Why Is Louis Sullivan Important To Chicago Louis Sullivan revolutionized architecture, redefining art in building form. His work in the late 1800s became known across the country and brought many to Chicago, either to see his grand creations or study the architect himself. Louis Sullivan was born in Boston on September 3rd, 1856 and began work in Chicago in 1875 for several architecture firms. He joined Adler s firm in 1879, where his major work began. Sullivan s skill in artistic design and Adler s talent for business matters and marketing made the firm very successful, and together they created many buildings across Chicago, eventually playing a part in the 1893 World s Fair, (although the architecture did not meet his expectations). Louis Sullivanwas greatly important to Chicago in that he left a lasting effect on the city and country with both his incredible architecture and his strong, innovative ideas about the future of architecture, ideas which gave birth to great new forms such as the skyscraper. Louis Sullivan was born in Boston, where he lived for his first 10 years. His parents were Irish immigrants who had moved to Boston. At age 12 he was already determined to become an architect, his impatience with classroom education moved him from school to school, as he spent only one year at MIT, where he studied under William Ware, an architect famous for his Victorian Gothic building style. In the book Blackburn takes a wide ranging, historical approach, discussing lust as viewed by Aristophanes and Plato, lust in the light of the Stoic mistrust of emotion, and the Christian fear of the flesh that catapulted lustto the level of deadly sin. He describes how philosophical pessimists like Schopenhauer and Sartre contributed to our thinking about lust and explores the false starts in understanding lust represented by Freud, Kinsey, and modern evolutionary psychology. Do I really want to draw aside the curtains and let light disperse the decent night that thankfully veils our embarrassments? Am I to stand alongside the philosopher Crates, the Cynic, who believing that nothing is shameful, openly copulated with his wife Hipparchia? Certainly not, but part of the task is to know why not. Public Libraries and Technology There are myriad ways a child may develop a love of reading, however in the modern era it seems that this passion and hunger for not only knowledge but for the pure enjoyment derived from it has been all but lost. I have children of my own that are not old enough to begin to approach about this and most other children I see are too endeavored with their tablets, videogames and social media to be concerned with it. I can therefore only speak from the one common frame of reference I have and that is myself. In doing so, I will inform you of just how a child may develop a love of reading and possibly shed some light on how children may come to have a love of reading even now. I had a wonderful incentive in the form of a persistent grandmother whom would always shut the television off and put a book in my hands. I claimed that I hated the time it took having to read these boringly annoying things called words in no less an object made out of paper, but the experience began to far outweigh the reservations I had about the activity at hand. I was started off with books based on real life events. Not very interesting to a child indeed, but one aspect of children is their curiosity and desire to know more, inquiring about the hows and whys of things, the way they are, who was that and where did they come from. My own thirst for knowledge not only grew but expanded beyond the simple trappings of my grandmother s personal collection and so she decided to bring me to a public library ... Every superhero has traits that make them great, but they also differ in many things as well. Although Captain Americaand Beowulf are similar in their weaknesses, strengths, and bravery, they also differ in their motivations, character traits, and heroics, making Captain America the better hero. All superheroes have weaknesses. Whether it s physically or mentally, they all have weaknesses that they struggle with that try to prevent them from being the best that they can be. Captain America and Beowulf share a similar weakness of the ability to get mortally wounded, due to the fact that they are both regular human beings. The advantage of Captain America though is that, due to the soldier serum, Captain America s age is slowed down (Frost). This is so important because this was a major factor in why Beowulf died. Because Beowulf was growing old, he wasn t as strong as he used to be. Therefore he wasn t strong enough to fight the dragon (Beowulf 800 805). They both have to do with light Kant moreso with Enlightenment, the era where reason and logic took place of tradition and religion. In his essay entitled What is Enlightenment? he drew a distinction of reason, splitting it into a binary of public and private. How this philosophical view impacts humanity, as well as relates to my own personal life, is ever more abundant as time goes on. One of the largest points Kant goes on to emphasize, practically the heart of the essay, is the concept of public and private reason. He explains that private reason is done, not so much out of free will, but, however, out of necessity. Someone employed at Taco Bell uses private reasoning to fold burritos or to stuff tacos. In comparison, public reasoning not only includes freedom, but exudes it. Kant, in reference to enlightenment, nothing is required but freedom. Accounts that will be deemed adequate will discuss specific groups of people, at a specified period of time. Diamond suggests that guns, germs, and steel are three contributing factors for why the world is in its current state. It is not difficult to recognize while reading, that the book spends a large amount of time talking about germs and much less text discussing guns and steel. In Guns, Germs, and Steel Diamond does adequately account for the historical development of guns and steel, in the way he accounts for the role of germs in the history of human societies. It is no debate that germs played a massive role in many important events in history, but guns came late, were not very effective at first, and steel production was most important militarily. Diamond goes into incredible detail, especially in his chapter The Lethal Gift of Livestock of his proposed history of germs in relation to humans. He considers the difference in domesticated animals in the old world and new world, attributes their power to the downfall of the Incan and Aztec empires when he writes, ...the most advanced native societies of North America...their destruction was accomplished largely by germs alone. Early studies of neurological development showed that preterm infant perception of localized pain was non existent. It was also thought that neonates were incapable of remembering painful experiences and therefore, they were not considered of understanding pain in the same way as adults (Urso, 2007). This understanding came from four misconceptions about the neonatal physiology. The first being that the neonatal CNS was immature, the second was that nerve fibers required myelination process in pain perception, the third was that infants did not have pain receptors and the fourth was that premature babies were unable to remember painful experiences (Urso, 2007). It is known that premature infants with immature development experience pain especially those needing surgical treatment or those who spend time in neonatal intensive. Knowing how to manage neonatal care is a challenge for healthcare professionals as it is difficult to measure and due to the fact that neonatal systems are more immature than those of older patients. It is also known that experience of pain in early life can have an effect on pain perception later on in life. Analgesia used can combat pain experienced by neonates. Boone ran up to the group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill s teeth and breaking his nose. Other officers reported Boone s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. On March 13, 2015, a jury found Boone guilty of violating Hill s civil rights by using unreasonable force . In plays with misfortunate events, such as Macbeth, characters go through internal conflicts, questioning good versus evil. In the play, the antagonist goes through the struggle of finding an answer to right versus wrong, along with the other characters. His mission is to become king, which leads him to a world filled with darkness where he extinguishes all the light that was there to guide him. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, the idea of lightness and darkness are discussed in order to exhibit purity and corruption through the characters Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo. When Macbeth is told by the witches that he shall become king soon, he realizes he has two paths he must choose between. He must either wait for things to fall into place and earn the crown, or he must steal it. Macbeth decides to take matters into his own hands, and steal the crown by murdering King Duncan. • 38. Treadwell s Relationship With Animals In Literature Human beings have always looked for similarities between themselves and other people as to gain common ground. However people also attempt to make connections between themselves and the more primal parts of nature. Animals have been along side people for centuries and them being by our side we ve assigned them certain traits and meanings as an attempt to connect with them on a deeper level. The Egyptians treated felines as almost gods in their culture because, after domestication, they killed vermin which helped crops grow. That praise evolved into worship, and gave felines new meaning among humanbeings. In many ways humans change animals to suit their purposes in literature and as to allow us to more finely tune our imagination to the lives of animals. Human beings don t have any idea what it s like anymore to be one with their natural surroundings which is why we focus so intently on relating to the lives of animals. The more we try to become kindred with animals, the more definitive the relationship between humans and animals becomes. Our relationship is almost anything we decide it to be on our end of it, but as for the animals they seem to fairly indifferent. The disorder sparks up many controversies for the simple fact that the exact cause is not clear or more over not well understood. They are the primarily inattentive type, primarily hyperactive impulsive type and the combined type. A child with the inattentive type fails to pay attentionto details and gets easily distracted and tends to daydream on a day to day basis. On the other hand the hyperactive impulsive type makes it hard for the child to stay still for long. Mostly this child would jump or climb things in inappropriate occasions. The most common type of ADHD is the combined type. This type is characterized by both impulsive behavior and hyperactivity, and inattention and distraction. Causes of ADHD Scientists are studying causes and risk factors that might contribute to the development of ADHD in an attempt to better control and reduce the chances of a person having the disorder. Because of this it is perfectly reasonable for laws to be in place to prevent drunk driving. In my belief, these laws are just and put in place to not only protect the driver under the influence, but those around them. John Rawls would also believe that these ideas are just due to the law not impeding on anyone s basic liberties. The laws are also the same for everyone, no matter the social standing they are in. They protect others while not taking away any basic liberties from the driver. This penalty for driving under the influence is the same for everyone as well no matter the social class. Someone who is poor has the same punishment as someone who is wealthy. Like Rawls s and my own view Bentham would also find the laws and penalties for drunk driving just. When someone gets into the driver s seat of a car drunk they run the risk of hurting themselves and others. When taking into account Bentham s view on the pleasure and pain system this hurt would cause an intense amount of pain. The pain could be physical for those who are in the accident or emotional for the family members of those who have been hospitalized or have passed away. The laws that are put into place to protect people from drunk driving accidents help make sure these pains do not occur. Even if the laws do not bring pleasure to most it stops pain from the community. To me this is very important in making the law just.
