Mayans Achievements
Carson Ritchie
3rd
The amazing achievements of the Mayans! The majestic Maya! These were people who, for more than
3,000 years have lived in Mesoamerica. More than a thousand years before the Spanish arrived the
Maya had built a great civilization. The Maya s most remarkable achievements were based off of four
things. Scale, genius , effort, and significance. In this essay, we will be looking at many great
achievements that the Maya s have accomplished. The Maya had a very fancy trade network that went
from Mesoamerica from Southern Mexico to Honduras (DOC A). They carried lots of products on
these routes including shells, pearls , and sometimes even gold that they got sometimes from
Colombia (DOC A). The Maya had to put a lot of effort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also used combinations of dots and bar symbols. This helped the Maya with time keeping (DOC
C). If the Maya didn t have a symbol for zero, the system could not work properly. This achievement
by the Maya was a great success but also took a large amount of genius and significance. The Maya
created a 260 day calendar for rituals and ceremonies and a 365 day calendar that synced with Earth s
orbit around the Sun. The two calendar cycles were used together. The Maya developed the calendar
further than anyone else (DOCD). The Maya priest astronomer s took a lot of time to collect
information and so they could predict what would happen with the systems and develop them (DOC
D). This took a lot of effort and genius although it is not as significant today, it was very helpful to the
Maya back then. The most remarkable achievement of the Maya is their ability to build cities.
Scientists have found thousands of building remains in over 2,000 places (DOCB). Tikal has an
estimated population of 75,000 and has packed buildings covering two miles (DOCB). All these
buildings took a long period of time to build and with the resources they had with no transportation it
would take even more effort. This achievement takes a lot of all four of the things on the

The Boy Descended From The Rooftops Coughing And Covered...
The boy descended from the rooftops coughing and covered in soot. No one acknowledged that they
were there and no one cared either. They were all focused on themselves and their families. Fernando
knew that no help would be found here. The boy needed to rest for a bit, so he went over to find some
shade on the other side of town. He settled towards a nice and big palm tree. He put Mia down right
next to him and asked, Any words yet? Mia stared at him like she had no idea what he was talking
about. With a sense of disappointment he then laid back and stared up at the sky. The entire time he
was wondering what his parents were doing and what they would think of him when they saw him and
his sister. He decided to sit down, relax, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fernando liked to go real deep because he was a really good swimmer. He went out until he couldn t

continued, Papa and mama will be so mad when they see what happened. he then decided to walk
back towards the remains of his home to wait for his parents. He then grabbed Mia and picked her up
and headed towards the palm tree to grab what they needed and then left.
They got to the remains of his home and waited for his parents while it was lightly drizzling. His
parents weren t there yet. Fernando said, Where papa and mama, they should be home by now. He saw
that the Police were still there discussing. One officer walked up to Fernando and said,
We found out that today s fire wasn t an accident, but an Arson.
Fernando stood there with confusion in his eyes. He didn t understand why someone would do that.
The rain started to pick up intensity. The officer then looked at him and asked,
What apartment number did you live in? Fernando then replied,
306 sir. The officer looked at him in disbelief and put his hand on his shoulder. With a mumble in his
voice he said,
Oh I m really sorry, He was a good man. The boy looked at the officer and said,

The Internet Addiction Disorder
An increasing problem streaming throughout the global society today is IAD or Internet Addiction
Disorder. Our culture along with many others has been consumed with the ease and pleasure of
shopping, gaming, and social networking through online portals to the point that it has become an
overwhelming problem for some people. What Internet Addiction Disorder is exactly has been the
topic of much debate and so has what makes internet addiction so addicting. IAD is a serious problem
and is receiving attention from all over the world. Once we ve learn to identify the problem how do
we deal with it? As technology is becoming faster, better, and increasingly available, the need to study
and understand matters corresponding to Internet Addiction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, research on Internet Addiction Disorder is being pursued throughout the international
community. Currently in China it is reported 13.7%, or about 10 million Chinese adolescent Internet
users meet Internet addiction diagnostic criteria. It has developed into such a major concern in China
that in 2007 China began limiting computer game use; present day laws now discourage more than 3
hours of daily game use (Block 307). In South Korea the average high school student spends 23 hours
a week gaming. Numerous authorities have been growing concerned about the escalating number of
individuals dropping out of school or work to spend time on computers. Over 1,043 counselors have
been educated in the treatment of Internet addiction in South Korea, and over 190 hospitals and
treatment centers have been enlisted. Also several preventive measures are now being introduced into
their schools to help combat IAD. The dilemma is so serious in South Korea that a series of 10
cardiopulmonary related deaths have occurred in Internet cafés along with a game related murder.
According to a story in The New York Time, a South Korea couple s life was ruined due to Internet
Addiction. The couple met through an online chat site and were soon married. Soon after that, they

Why The Anti Equal Rights Amendment
Introduction This essay will explore the reasons why the anti Equal Rights Amendment of the 1970s
was successful in keeping the proposed amendment from being added to the Constitution. It starts
with a discussion of the process in congress and what it took for the amendment to even reach the
states for a vote, and the exact literature of the amendment. It continues by analyzing what caused the
movement for the ERA, successes of the feminist movement in the 1970s and leaders in the pro ERA
movement. The rest of the essay will discuss the Stop ERA campaign, its arguments against the
amendment and how it succeeded in garnering enough support to prevent passage of the amendment.
This subject is particularly important to discuss because our society continues to be riddled with
gender inequality and sexual discrimination. Though legislative change does not guarantee societal
change, it is certainly a necessary step, and the lack of an Equal Rights Amendment has put the issue
of sexism in the United States on the backburner. It is necessary to examine the origins of the failure
of the Equal Rights Amendment in order to fully understand what is holding the United States back as
a country and what can be done to move forward and make meaningful changes in how we perceive
gender and sexuality. Passing an Amendment In order to pass an Amendment to the Constitution of the
United States of America, it must first be proposed by either Congress with a two thirds majority vote

Importance Of Animal Use For Entertainment
The third reason that humans use animals is for entertainment. Animal circuses, aquariums, zoos,
bullfighting, and dog fighting are examples of using animals for enjoyment. There has always been a
conflict whether it is ethical to keep animals in captivity and away from their natural habitat just for
fun. Humans started using animals for amusement since the ancient years. Even though the previous
generations methods were more deadly and cruel, the same concept of animal use for entertainment is
still applied. Kate Good, a famous author and animal activist, states in her article Five Cruel Methods
Used to Train Animals That Will Make You Skip the Next Animal Show in No Time: When you stop
looking at these attractions as an opportunity for you to see the animals you love, and see them for the
profit driven businesses they truly are, the discrepancies between good intentions and cruel action
becomes apparent. People visit the entertainment centers because they love animals without knowing
why the animals act the way they do. The crowd applauses when an elephant rides a tricycle, when a
cat jumps through multiple burning rings, when bears play soccer, or when dolphins draw Christmas
trees. Do these animals understand what they are doing? Are they doing what they are doing because
they enjoy it? No, evidence has revealed that animals go through a cruel process, also known as
PHAJAAN, since their infancies to be trained for these humane activities for the public.

Prostitution Is Legal For Human Trafficking
Are you serious? Girls are not just objects, they are human beings just like everyone else. That
disgusts me, are the thoughts I was having when I saw that Thailand has a total of around three million
sex workers in their country, and the number is increasing. Prostitution is legal but human trafficking
is not. How can we make prostitution legal and then not expect is to lead to more human trafficking
around the world. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with
someone for payment. Usually when you think about prostitution you think about out of the United
States. But, now in the United States 1 out of 50 states have prostitution legal. Nevada is the only state
where prostitution is legal. But it is still going on in other states in the United States. Prostitution was
taken place, usually when a female needs money to support herself or maybe even her family. But,
now parents are starting their kids to be prostitutes at the age of THIRTEEN! In Thailand, there are
around three million people there are sex workers and around one third are MINORS. Luckily, it is
way harder to have minors in the United States then it would be to have minors out of the country.
Being a minor means that you are under the age of 18. This is called prostitution of children or child
prostitution meaning prostitution involving a child. It is a form of commercial sexual exploitation of
children. The term normally refers to prostitution of a minor, or person under

Literary Techniques Used in Mother to Son by Langston...
Mother to Son, written by Langston Hughes, is a short poem about a mother who is teaching her son
about perseverance and determination by using the image of a staircase. She explains that even though
life has given her many hardships, she continues forward and she urges her son to do the same. In
Mother to Son, Langston Hughes uses an extended metaphor, imagery, dialect, and structure to paint a
picture of a weary mother who wants her son to persevere through the hardships of life. The theme of
this poem is determination and the value of experience. The mother is telling her son that no matter
what happens, he should never give up. Even though this is a rather sad poem, there is a glimpse of
hope because she never gave up. She never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A staircase that is broken would not be in a wealthy person s home, so this also shows us that she is
poor. In the 1920 s, which was when this poem was written, many African Americans were moving
from the South into the cities for a chance at making a living. Most of them were very poor and lived
in poverty, which is why the staircases would be broken down, bare, and no carpet. The title, Mother
to Son, tells us that this is a mother giving her son advice. Langston Hughes opens the poem by
saying, Well, son, I ll tell you: (1), which could mean that the son had asked her about her life or that
maybe he was complaining about his current struggles. The mother then begins to tell her son that her
life has not been easy, but she never gives up and she urges her son to do the same: So boy, don t you
turn back. Don t you set down on the step Cause you finds it s kinder hard. Don t you fall now
The mother is telling her son that he should never turn around or sit down just because it gets tough,
and she uses herself as an example. You can see the determination that this mother has. She keeps
trying and persevering through her troubles, even when it seems like there is no hope, And sometimes
goin in the dark / Where there ain t been no light. (12 13). And sometimes goin in the dark (12) could
mean two things: she felt hopeless at some points in her life, or that it was hard to see the way. If a

Christianity And The Nature Of God
If one is to write about Christianity and the nature of God, one must have a foundation to rely upon.
Both theology and our epistemological queries concerning God must be crafted from a source.
Michael Bird in his Evangelical Theology notes that the prolegomena or things we say before saying
anything about God must be predicated upon a critical source. This source is God s Word and is
revealed in multiple ways. If one is to conduct a Credo or apologetic stance of his Christian faith, this
person ought to explain how God reveals Godself, especially through the Biblical text, but also
potentially through creation. God revealing Godself through the God s Word is also known as Special
Revelation; whereas, God revealing God s personality through creation is known as General
Revelation or Natural Theology. First and foremost, there is a significant debate concerning the
possibility of Natural Theology. Emil Bruner and Karl Barth famously debated this in the 1930 s as
Barth argued that only the Holy Spirit can illuminate the person of God so that God is revealed to
humanity. Without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, humanity is too deep in their sin to see God s
handiwork throughout creation. John Calvin, on the other hand, believes that the knowledge of God
has been naturally implanted in the minds of humanity. To prevent humanity from pretending that they
were never aware of God s existence, God implants knowledge of God s divine majesty. Additionally,
Calvin believes that

Menace II Society Essay
Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the hustler lifestyle and is
struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and the
characters around him violate many of society s norms. Throughout the film, the characters swear
incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones, commit
street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people
unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in this
film were, [Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed
robbery. It s funny like that in the hood sometimes. You never ... Show more content on

However, he sees his only option of obtaining signs of wealth, like a nice car, are via street crime.
Thus, Caine s deviance can be attributed to Strain Theory as well. Caine takes the deviant path of an
innovator in order to achieve cultural goals. For instance, he makes and sells drugs for money and he
mugs a man in order to get nice rims for his new car. Caine rarely shows any intention of using
institutionalized means of achieving cultural goals he claims he was never fit for some boring job.
However, it must also be considered that Caine was born into a family that belonged to an urban slum
and whose way of life had crime woven into it. Caine grew up watching his father and his father s
friends deal drugs while rarely working normal jobs. He claimed that he even learned how to make
drugs from his father. As a result, it becomes evident that Caine had all the opportunity in the world to
be turned on to the life of a hustler since it was the same life his father led and that his friends would
later live as well. In this way, Caine s life is an ideal example of illegitimate opportunity theory since
crime was fused into his way of life.
Growing up a young black man in an urban slum certainly did not deter Caine from deviating either.
He grew up with the stigma of a young Black man. This master status led Caine to believe that other
people, specifically non Blacks, always thought that young black men were always in trouble. For
example, when Caine

Canadian Narrative
It was a cool September morning in the 19th century, the brisk, dry breeze of Kentucky s Autumn
winds struck my face. It woke me from my slumber within the dark, forlorning cave. The dim glow of
dawn s sunrise was refreshing, it gave me a sense of hope that... maybe I could survive running away
from my master and live in freedom. Maybe I truly could make it to Canada, it may be getting cold,
but temperature could only douse my hope for so long. Standing and brushing the leaves off from my
dress, I gathered myself and headed out onto the Underground Railroad; my path to liberty. The leaves
crunched and tattered beneath my feet, and the comfort of the cave walls were left behind me. I couldn
t hide forever, I had to face the harsh reality that there was going home now. It s unfortunate why I had
to take the railroad, they were going to sell me to the Carolina s for my learning. And we all know
South Carolina is the deepest south you can get. All I could do at this point as I continued my journey
was pray, pray to the lords above that I could survive this. No bounty hunters could track me, no ...

Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures
A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures
reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign
contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both
composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments
of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of
an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of
forgiving. Subversively in Departures, Takita manipulates confrontations of humanity through Daigo

Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working
with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces
himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest
distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of
discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work
effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their
weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness
and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing
himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the
concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to
accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. Thus positioning us to view such
conflicts with sympathy as while securing in emotional troubles, consider confrontations to be a vessel
for overriding. Through the exploration of such examples, it can be seen that hostilities with the

The Pros And Cons Of Bilinguals
Language is an important way to communicate with people around us in the world, but many people
around us speak more than one language. Bilinguals are people who can speak at least two languages.
There is a lot of debating on whether monolinguals have better memory or bilinguals. Many research
has shown similar results with similar experiments. It is true that monolinguals do know more words
in a language, but when it comes to memory, bilinguals have a better memory (Kudo Swanson, 2014).
Bilinguals do make grammar mistakes a lot and mix up the languages to get their point across but they
are able to deliver their point across. Overall, they are better able to focus on what to remember. In all
of the studies, I have reviewed bilinguals have outperformed monolinguals. Bilinguals are able to
focus more on the task that is assigned to them as well as eliminate the distraction around them.
Bilinguals have learned how to balance two languages in their life, they speak a different language at
home and a different language at school. Bilinguals are able to pick up cues in their everyday life to
deal with any type of situation. Bilinguals are able to attack the situation quickly and accurately than
monolinguals Bilinguals do have outperform monolinguals in all tasks except in vocabulary.

We always hear that knowing two languages is better than one, it will take you farther in future. So,
the people who speak two languages are bilinguals. A study conducted by Blom et. al

Siddhartha Gautama s Life And Spiritual Religion
Siddhartha Gautama s Life Spiritual religion is one of the main aspects of human civilization.
Buddhism is one of four religions that have the most followers besides Christianity, Judaism, and
Hinduism. Siddhartha Gautama, called Buddha, was the founder and awakened leader of Buddhism.
His life has a great influence on this religious belief. Siddhartha s Birth Siddhartha Gautama was born
as the royal prince at Lumini (a place in Nepal now) in 6th century B.C.E. His father was the king of a
clan named Shakyas named Shuddhodana Gautama, and his mother was queen Mayadevi ( The Birth
of Buddha Kadampa Buddhism. ). One day, Queen Mayadevi went out to share food and clothes for
the poverty people. After returning to the palace, the Queen had the dream that the white elephant
descended from heaven and entered into her womb. After that, the Queen got pregnant. When she was
giving birth of the child, she did not experience the pain. It was a miracle birth. The Hindu gods and
godless came and blessed the child, and they took him from the side of the queen ( About Buddha. ).
The baby stood up right after the delivery and he walked seven steps into four directions. He had the
birthmark of a wheel or chakra at the bottom of his feet. Queen May died seven days after of
Siddhartha birth. After that, Siddhartha was taken care by his mother s sister. As the practice of all

Favorite Learning Experience
During my early years of life, I absolutely loved learning new things. I would wonder around the
house and garage and look for items that were interesting. I was a very tactile child, in which I needed
to touch and feel objects and items in order to learn about them. My parents and grandparents taught
me to count at a young age using money and household items. For example, every morning, I went to
McDonalds with my grandfather, and I purchased a cappuccino to take home for my grandmother. The
overall cost of the coffee would be 95 cents, and I would receive a nickel in change. When we left
McDonalds, my grandfather would give me the nickel as long as I saved the nickels and counted them
in the pickup truck. At a young age, I had already learned the alphabet and numbers. My absolute
favorite learning activity and form of play as a young child included spending time with my
grandfather on the new land, in which I helped build the house. I followed him around, played on the
dirt pile, and was interested in the tools he would use to build cars and furniture.
From birth to three years old, I was intrigued by toys that played music. For example, I used rattles to
make noise, and I played music with a toy xylophone. My parents and grandparents also assisted in
reading books with sounds and different textures for sensory input. My family also bought me a
musical activity gym where I could flat on my back on a mat with a variety of toys that played music
above me.

Streetcar Named Desire Naturalism
Naturalism was a literary period that was highlighted between 1880 and 1940. Naturalists used to
believe that nature was much more powerful than anything else which humanity would never overturn
its power. Naturalists would use lifestyles, common characters, and plenty of personification
associated with nature. Naturalists studied characters through their relationships with each different
characters and nature alike. Taking an experimental stand on life, Naturalists were objective in life and
allowed the natural order of things to progress.
While not usually outlined as a realistic piece, some characteristics of Naturalism are apparent in
Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire.
First, the play depicts lower class characters in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the ending of the play was made apparent through all that led up to that. Life for Blanche and
Stella was what it was. Regardless of how arduous either of them tried, their lives were on a path that
they would not be ready to deter from. Blanche s mental instability could lead to nothing but her being
institutionalized and Stella s love for Stanley could lead to nothing but her staying with him.
Naturalism was initially began by French author Emile Zola. Zola cast the road for alternative authors
who wanted to tug away from the Romantic concepts of writing. Romantics viewed life through rose
colored glasses (meaning they forced the sweetness of all things to the front). In essence, in their want
to elevate nature and also the fantastic thing about nature, Romantics would often alter the realities of
life.
Naturalists, on the opposite hand, desired to point out life as it ultimately was (as an extension of
Realism). The authors would usually be figurative scientific observers, stating solely what they
observed in life while not manipulating

Girl Who Owned A City Event Map
A deadly plague has wiped out every one in the world over the age of twelve. Lisa is ten years old and
struggling to survive with her five year old brother, Todd. She decides to form a militia to protect her
family and community, against the dangerous gangs.
1. Mr. Williams house was one of abandoned places Lisa has robbed. She gathered essential food and
supplies for Todd and herself. During her visit, she found a letter to the owner s son explaining the
plague and a vaccine he could get. Lisa found it similar to the one her father wrote which was sent to
the Nelsons before he died in the hospital.

They planned to have supply trips and also have some put in storage. 5. Grand Avenue worked on the
defense plan because they needed the protection. Each house was armed with lots of security
including a unique alarm which was to be used when attacked, a guard dog and booby traps like
rockslides. Planks connected to every rooftop, a barbed wire fence lined the houses and signs were put
up everywhere. All children used a favorite weapon for attacking intruders, which they practiced
fighting imaginarily. Drills even occurred throughout the days. After a lucky victory over The
Chidester Gang one day, they celebrated and made it their holiday.
6.After the Nelson house was burnt down, because of Chidester Gang, Lisa and Todd take refuge at
Jill s orphanage. She decided that they would be more likely to win in battles if they didn t have to
fight at all, just defend. Lisa thought that an abandoned high school, Glenbard would be the perfect

secretly so no one would know. They had classes, jobs and dorms for every child family who lived

Direct Democracy Vs Representative Democracy Essay
Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy
The term Democracy is derived from two Greek words, demos, meaning people, and kratos, meaning
rule. These two words form the word democracy which means rule by the people. Aristotle, and other
ancient Greek political philosophers, used the phrase, `the governors are to be the governed , or as we
have come to know it, `rule and be ruled in turn .
The two major types of democracy are Representative Democracy and Direct
Democracy. Clearly the arguments for and against each form of democracy are plentiful. However, it
is my belief that theoretically, Direct Democracy is the superior form of political rule. Due to
problems with in the direct democratic system, its use as a practical ... Show more content on

It is not even thinkable that all citizens will agree on what good is. Rousseau recognized this and
accepted a term of majority rule. Those who voted against a policy which is found to be the best for
the general, must have been thinking of personal gains, rather than the gains of the entire society.
The feature which distinguishes direct democracy from other forms of government is the idea of
agreement and the key to agreement is discussion. It is impossible to reach an agreement without
discussion, because it is not right to think that everybody will have the same opinion on all matters.
But, it is very possible, that through discussion an agreement could be reached by all members.
Representation, on the other hand allows a select few to make decisions in their own best interest,
which is not necessarily the best interest of the society.
However, direct democracy is not the perfect method to produce a union of the community. For a
direct democracy to work, face to face communication between all members of the community is
needed. The only way this is possible is to meet in large groups. Due to the fear of high tension, many
citizens
will not participate in these large group meeting. So in order for these fearful people to voice their
opinions they must get together in smaller, less tensions groups, where they are not as timid to say as
they wish to see happen.
A direct democracy can only work in a small group, so as a form of government for an

Comparing Hobbe s and Locke s Theories on Nature
Two books that I am going to be drawing information from for my paper are Hobbes Leviathan and
Locke s Two Treatises of Government. This essay will be focusing on the differences between Hobbes
and Locke s ideas on the state of nature. One of the biggest, and in my opinion most important points
that makes Hobbes different from Locke is his belief that the state of nature is equal to the state of
war. Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher, who lived between 1588 and 1679. He witnessed
multiple events throughout his life that later led him to write his book Leviathan, in 1651 once the war
had ended. Hobbes witnessed the English Civil War (1642 1651), the interregnum period of England
starting in 1649, and the hardest of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hobbes PAGE NUMBER)
After that Hobbes goes on to say, The life of man is solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short. (Hobbes)
He argues that nothing is unjust in the state of nature. He believes that everyone has the right to do
anything he/she wants because in the state of nature, there is no right or wrong and there is no law;
everyone can do everything and nothing can be unjust. He says that Where there is no common power,
no law; where no law, no injustice. (Hobbes)
So all in all with Hobbes, he believes that all people are equal, therefore no power over the others in
the state can be established. Everyone is the enemy to everyone else, therefore, no on can secure
himself/herself, there is no property, and nothing is unjust. So overall, Hobbes state of nature is very
pessimistic and is not a place to survive.
Locke s idea of the state of nature is that everyone is equal to everyone. He states that, the state of
nature is also the state of equality, wherein all the power and jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having
more than another.. (Locke) Locke however, does not think that this leads the people to war. He thinks
that the state of nature is NOT equal to the state of war, but there is a chance of it becoming the state
of war. He says that the person who committed the crime against a certain person puts himself in the
state of war with that

Dickens Creation of a Picture of Nineteenth Century School in Nicholas Nickleby
This essay demonstrates how Charles Dickens, the author of the novel Nicholas Nickleby creates an
image of the 19th century school Dotheby s Hall School for Boys. Also I will be discussing the
conditions of the school, the description of the boys and the protagonists (Mr. Squeers, Smike and
Nicholas.) In the 19th century the rich students were treated pleasantly because they had the money to
pay the school however the poor students were treated harshly. Also, in the 19th century there was no
social service so the teachers could do as they wished to the students.

In addition here is another quotation an unhealthy looking boy with warts all over his hands. This
portrays that the children are not being given any medicine for any wounds. Dickens is trying to make
the reader create a picture that makes them feel repentant for the boys.
However, Dickens shows the character Mr. and Mrs. Squeers as the symbol of evil and violence in this
novel. Mr. Squeers has power in the beginning of the story but through the extent of the novel he
looses the power to Nicholas Nickleby and the children gain hope from Nicholas Nickleby. For
example administering a cut with the cane . This examines that Mr. Squeers has the power to do what
ever he wishes to the children. Mr. Squeers looses his power over the children at the end for example
beat the ruffian till he roared for mercy . This studies how Mr. Squeers is weakened by one man.
Nickleby also uses violence to gain power over Mr. Squeers Nickelby uses violence for the right

The character Nickleby is shown to be nice, mature and understanding. Nickleby stands up to Mr. and

The one concept that the two disagreed on was the decision of a monarchical power. Adams oddly

A Unified Thai Kingdom
During the 14th century, a unified Thai kingdom was established. Today it is known as Thailand but
up until 1939 it was called Siam. It is the only Southeast Asian country that has never been under
European rule. As archaeology studies suggests, 4000 B.C. was the time period where early bronze
metallurgy centers were thriving. Metallurgy refers to the science and technology concerned with the
properties of metals and their production. This development along with the cultivation of wet rice
gave the motivation for social and political organizations to make an appearance. Also, research
suggests that these new discoveries could have been transmitted to the rest of Asia, including China.
The Thai are linguistically related to the Tai groups in Southern China because migration groups left
from China and settled in Southeast Asia. Thai s date the founding of their nation to the 13th century.
According to tradition, in 1238 the Thai chieftains overthrew the Khmer rulers and established a Thai
kingdom in its place. This kingdom soon declined and a new Thai Kingdom emerged in 1350, the
Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The first ruler of this kingdom, King Rama Thibodi, made two very important
contributions to Thai history. One was the establishment and promotion of Buddhism as the official
religion and the second one was the compilation of the Dharmashastra, which are laws based on Hindu
and traditional Thai customs. The Dharmashastra stayed as a tool of Thai law until the late 19th

Five Points Sociology
The Truth: Irish immigrants were driven to America by the potato famine of the 1840s. This caused a
massive influx of immigrants to New York City who were forced to settle for the cheapest and
shabbiest lodgings in a poorer area of the city, known as Five Points. These kinds of conditions
resulted in dirty, overcrowded spaces with relatively poor standards of living. Men typically worked at
a trade, what we would now consider blue collar, or working class jobs, to provide for their families.
Due to the fact that in this time, women were still not welcome in the workplace, many unmarried or
widowed women were forced to turn to prostitution in order to support themselves. Gangs were
formed to promote political candidates, and sometimes fought among themselves. There was also a
building known as the Old Brewery, where more than 1,000 people supposedly lived. It was torn down
in the 1850s so that the land could be used for a mission to do charity work. In the 1890s, Five Points
was converted to factories and public buildings, essentially ending the Irish occupation of the area.
The Civil War began in 1861 and lasted until 1865, covering the majority of the events in the movie.

Whistling Vivaldi Chapter Summary
Growing up many of us learns about racism, probably from reading To Kill a Mocking Bird, or other
such works. One thing we don t learn about is stereotype threat. This is an issue Claude Steele delves
into in depth in his book Whistling Vivaldi. Claude Steele himself, being black, grew up with
segregation and racism. This is something that affected his entire life. When he gets offered a job at
the University of Washington he develops a special interest in stereotype threat when he sees the
minority students underperforming despite have equal or higher SAT scores upon entering the college.
This is when he really develops his interest in stereotype threat and with fellow colleagues develops a
group of experiments to explore more about this topic. In the first three chapters of this book Steele
sets the stage for the coming experiments, and delves into the process of showing us how stereotype

The Striped Pyjamas Comparison
It s completely normal to feel vulnerable and fragile throughout our life. It s something we all go
through as people. I have chosen the theme vulnerability and how it affects people. This particular
theme is conveyed through two books Animal Farm written by George Orwell and Boy in The Striped
Pyjamas written by John Boyne. It s also portrayed through the poems Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy
and Let me describe for you her eyes by Glenn Colquhoun. The authors all use effective ways and
techniques to convey this theme. The theme of vulnerability and how it affects people is shown quite
clearly throughout the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. The theme was portrayed mostly
through the pigs, as they were the lower class because they re well known as the fat, ugly and lazy
animals on the farm. They were often verbally abused and treated with disrespect. The birds ... Show

Roundness In No Name Woman
Patriarchy as Represented by the Symbol of Roundness in Maxine Hong Kingston s No Name Woman
In the short story No Name Woman, Kingston pushes the motif of roundness pass its traditional
connotations of family, union, and fulfilment, and through it explores Chinese feudal traditions as a
tool of suppression for women, and the erased narrative of her aunt s fatal transgressions.
Roundness features heavily in Chinese cultural iconography, in round mooncakes, round doorways,
round windows, and round rice bowls, of the Chinese (Kingston 13). Its associations with perfection,
harmony, and familial values serve as a reminder of the law: the family must whole, faithfully keeping
the descent line by having sons to feed the old and the dead, who in turn look after the family (13). In
other words, roundness is the status quo, which bears particularly harshly on women in hard times,
when to be woman, to have a daughter in starvation time was waste enough (6). ... Show more content

The narrator s mother tells her story of her aunt as a cautionary tale, and in doing so draws a
connection between the two. The narrator s menstruation (Yue Jin in Chinese, as in the moon s passing

stomach (3). Indeed, the narrator views her childhood, barred from simple joys of flying high kites and
carnival ride[s] and having to pa[y] in guilt (6) when she dares disobey, as markedly similar to her
aunt s life. Under the feudal system, women are relegated to the role of extending the descent line into
perpetuity. Roundness, as critic Sau Ling Cynthia Wong describes, is mindlessly self perpetuating; if a

Romeo And Juliet By Baz Luhrmann Essay
Baz Luhrmann adaptation of William Shakespeare s Romeo Juliet is modernised to convey the
meaning of the original play more appealing to today s audience. He keeps the Shakespearian
language but changes the props, clothing, setting and music. By using these different techniques he
makes the movie effective to the audience. The prologue directed by Baz Luhrmann is a futuristic
interpretation of Shakespeare s 16th century play. The prologue shows the tv newsreader describing
the rivalry in Verona Beach and the deadly feud between Romeo s Montague family and the Capulet
family of Juliet. Baz Luhrmann uses the newsreader as the narrator compared to Shakespeare s play.
He uses the prologue to locate the action in the modern fictional Verona Beach USA, and to introduce

Dramatic Ironry In O. Henry s Lamb To The Slaughter
Short stories are an exeptional use of literary elements to an audience of all ages. Lamb to the
Slaugher, by O. Henry, expresses many literary elements such as imagery and dramatic irony. Gift of
the Magi is also an amazing use with foreshadowing and diction. Lamb to the Slaughter uses the
elements better than Gift of the Magi in many different ways, starting with it s precise characters.
Lamb to the slaughter expresses many literary elements, creating a story about Mary Maloney s
experience with her husband. Dramatic irony is a very critical part of the story, especially while
evaluating the situation. Personally, I think it s right here on the premises. Probably right under our
very noses. What you think Jack? (Roald Dahl 9). She killed her husband with a frozen lamb leg after
discussing troubling news that was never revealed. Mary called the police, who were also her husband
s coworkers. The police never figured out what the weapon was or who killed him. Mary asked them
of a favor to eat the lamb leg cooking in the oven, and the weapon was right under their noses when
they were eating. Additionally, the imagery really helps the most crucial part of the story come alive.
Mary walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the
air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head(Roald Dahl 4). The text could
have just said she hit him with a lamb leg, but instead it elaborates and explains how it happened.

Wollstonecraft was radical and direct. Much of her text was straightforward and she showed no
regards in holding back her thoughts. In some sense she was sarcastic, and mocked the way women
were looked upon such as when she says My own sex, I hope, will excuse me, if I treat them like
rational creatures, instead of flattering their FASCINATING graces, and viewing them as if they were
in a state of perpetual childhood, unable to stand alone. By emphasizing fascinating graces, she is
mocking the norm expectation of how women were supposed to act during that time period. On the
other hand, in Barbauld s poem, she mentions women s graces to their advantage. Go, gird thyself
with grace; collect thy store Of bright artillery glancing from afar; Soft melting tones thy thundering
cannon s roar, Blushes and fears thy magazine of war. (Barbauld) She suggests that women should use
their lady like qualities men have established upon them to their advantage, rather than try to fight
against it. It is clear that Wollstonecraft believed that women deserve equality to men and that the only
reason they were not as equal was because they were not given the proper tools to be so (such as
education). In her work, she does not try to take the approach that women are better than men or

interdependence. When most people think of leaders they do not think about them needing to depend
on anyone. Some would even think of it as a weakness, a concept I have myself had to overcome. In
my mind, I associated interdependence with being weak in character.
Character before this course defined to me as moral fineness and steadfastness. However, this course
changed my concepts of exactly what character and characteristic of self, of a followers and leaders
were. I now understand their relevance to leadership, followers and organizations. Hencley wrote
about leadership theories approach maintains that leadership is determined not so much by the
characters of the individuals as by the requirements of social situation (Gujral 2012, p. 108). Instead of
only thinking in terms of personal character traits, I now recognize that there is distinguishing
characteristic between in most everything like social, leadership, followers, and situations as well as

Oedipus The King By Sophocles
Oedipus the King, written by Sophocles, follows the tragic story of a king named Oedipus who goes
from an all powerful ruler to a hopeless blind peasant. Oedipus the King was written as a play and

fate of the gods. Throughout the play Oedipus struggles to find a solution and change all the troubles
in his life. The play observes the story of Oedipus who defies the gods and through the journey
experiences hardships in tragic flaw, tragic fall and tragic realization. Tragic flaw would be considered
the negative aspect which influences the character. Teiresias, who is a blind prophet warns Oedipus of
his horrible fate and Oedipus tells him Your life is one long night so that you cannot hurt me or any

Narrative is plays a role of importance just as much as the characters themselves. The narrative of the
characters is very much a depiction of reality; fragmented and without a set way of telling a story. The
narrative in the film is structured in a way that is a representation of how we as human beings live and
lead our lives on an everyday basis. the film comments on the struggle of children and women, and
how unjust the system can be against them. For example, in the film, we encounter Rehka, a prostitute
who has a daughter to take care of. As a mother, biggest fear comes to life when authorities take her
child away and place her daughter in an orphanage. They hope to sell off the virginity of the young
girl, and sell her body to the person who pays the biggest price. This depicts how families can be torn
apart due to an unfair economical system that they do not benefit from. The mother is taken away
from her child and feels lost, much like Krishna and his mother, separated from each other. The film
shows how little care people have in families, especially ones that are run by women. They do not care
for them as much as they should. The film is displays a reasonable amount of references to children

Examples Of Immortal Soul In Phaedo
An Immortal Soul (Socrates in Phaedo)
The idea of the soul s participation in the divine can also be found in ancient philosophy, and
specifically in the writings of Plato. In Plato s Phaedo, Socrates, at his last moments of life, discusses
the immortality of the human soul. He suggests that the human soul is immortal in that it preexists and
also it survives death. The soul, according to Socrates, is divine and the body is mortal. The body is
the soul s prison as long as it (the body) pursues worldly pleasures and as long as it is driven by senses
that prevent it from pursuing true knowledge. In Plato s account of Socrates, true knowledge can only
be achieved upon the separation of the body from the soul. He argues that apart from the ... Show

They wait for the day when God will finally free them from this evil and sinful world and take them to
eternity where they shall enjoy rest and dwell in the arms of the lord. To this category of people, the
eschatological message of the gospel is more appealing than Christ s message of embracing suffering
and showing a good example while living in the world of struggles.
Thesis Statement
Through the interaction between the divine and the human soul of Christ, God is able to lift the human
soul into His divinity, such that through Christ, humanity is made divine and eventually sanctified.
The whole human being, possessing both his sensible body and a soul experiences this action of
salvation and sanctification. This therefore suggests that a holistic description of humanity helps us
come to the understanding of the role of incarnation in reorienting humanity.
He does not only reorient our minds but our bodies too. This therefore suggests that the natural affinity
towards the divine, which pulls humanity away from the extremity of bodily inclination, is naturally
implanted or rather fashioned in human soul. The soul controls humanity and prevents it from the
excesses of the ego. With this divine nature, we can distinguish between good and evil and choose to
do good and shun

Incorporation of Natural Capital into Mainstream Policies
Executive Summary
This paper objectively advocates a paradigm shift that incorporates natural capital into mainstream
policies, and businesses practices, at all levels. It sheds light on the role and importance of valuing
natural capital; reasons why it has not been properly integrated into everyday decision making
process; the risks associated with negligence; and the benefits of integration. A few examples were
enlisted to help outline the opportunities that lie within the ecosystem, if only we can implement
practices to utilize it sustainably. Individuals, corporations, and governments, must understand and
account for their use of natural capital and be aware of the accurate cost of human and economic
security.
1.0 Introduction
Virgil (October 15, 70 BC September 21, 19 BC), a classical Roman poet once quoted the greatest
wealth is health . In the quest for wealth, human beings degrade their health through actions such as
sleep deprivation and stress from prolonged work just to make so much wealth which we ultimately
spend on replenishing health. Depending on the level of damage done, we might not be able to sustain
good health and die. The above statement, even though blinkered, is an opening for our broader focus
of natural capital, which in spite of its utmost importance, is not appropriately implemented in modern
day decision making process. Natural capital refers to environmental health and its primary function is
life support. As human economic activities

Comparing Odysseus s Pride And The Gods
Raul G Rodriguez
Dr. Cook
Humanities
February 6, 2015
Odysseus s pride and the Gods The two issues that will be discussed will be whether Odysseus s
downfall was himself or the gods. When Odysseus and his men leave to return home after the Trojan
War, the ocean currents and wind throw them off course constantly. When they land they find
themselves on an island with Cyclops roaming everywhere. Odysseus and his handpicked men head
into a cave where he helps himself to the food. After sometime the Cyclops that resides in that cave
returns and traps them. Being hungry the Cyclops eats two of the men. Odysseus then devises a plan
to escape; he gets the Cyclops drunk on the wine he receive from a priest he saved, next Odysseus
says his name is nobody, then he takes a sharpened olive branch and blinds the Cyclops. The Cyclops
goes outside and yells nobody is hurting me! so the other Cyclops on the island ignore him. Odysseus
and his men escape back to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How all Odysseus s problems start was at the Cyclops Island when he yelled his name to the Cyclops
that prayed to the god Poseidon and had Odysseus curse. Only after Odysseus angers the Cyclops that
is a demigod does he have to pay. Granted the Cyclops in the cave did eat two of his men, but gods
only the offenses others have done to them and nothing more. Next at the Witch s island Odysseus
saves his men and stays with the witch for a year despite his crew s wishes, that creates a shred of
distrust between them. Eventually that causes a domino effect after Hades and the monster where
Odysseus hides behind his men; when they land on the sun god s island. The men go behind Odysseus
s back when he is asleep and kill the flocks that were on that island. From this the Sun god pleads to
Zeus for vengeance. Zeus creates a storm that kills his men. In this sense the gods are a reactive force,
to the one action Odysseus made on the Cyclops

Graffiti War
What do the graffiti wars say about social relations of inequality and power in cities?
Unequal power relations seemingly drive the war against graffiti. Arguably, this war targets
marginalized individuals in poor communities, more specifically; it targets poor Black and Latino
youth. Chronopolous (2011) argues that graffiti is seen as a threat to social disorder and suggests that
communities festered with graffiti are out of control (Chronopoulous 2011, pg. 77 78). This is as a
result of authorities seeing the act of graffiti writing as a domination of public spaces by Blacks and
Latinos. Not to mention, they also consider graffiti artists as criminals, disturbed, insignificant,
insecure, cowards, and socially maladjusted; which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated by Taki, an influential graffiti artist when addressing the concern authorities held about his
graffiti writing, Why they go after the little guy? Why not campaign organizations that put stickers all
over the subways at election time? (Chronopoulos 2011, pg. 81). Though, graffiti is deemed as
legitimate when it is used to generate profit, which is seen through the recent increased demand for
graffiti with the purpose of beautification and gentrification. Evidently, the growing concern over
graffiti in public spaces is driven by the conflict graffiti creates when obstructing advertisements,
which generate increased consumption and profit. It also demonstrates the lack of tolerance the
dominant class has for the promotion of dominance by the lower class. Moreover, constant public
proclamations which urged people to see graffiti writing as a social safety issue, has certainly
influenced the demand for anti graffiti efforts and the attitudes upper and middle class whites had
towards Blacks and Latinos (Chronopoulos 2011, pg. 87)
There are many associations with graffiti writing, Hip hop being the first. Though the emergence of
graffiti can be attributed to street gangs; which, they used to mark their territories (Chronopoulos
2011, pg. 79), graffiti began to merge with hip hop culture in the 70s (Chronopoulos 2011, pg. 82).
Ultimately, this combination promoted the public domination over public spaces in New York City
through the use

Gender Socialisation Commences At Birth, Parental...
Gender socialisation commences at birth, parental conditioning and expectations are confirmed with
the introduction and expectations that girls play with dolls and boys play with trucks and cars. Girls
are seen as the homemakers whilst boys are guided more towards building, climbing and rough and
tumble play. This continues at primary school where girls are encouraged to wear dresses for their
uniforms and boys shorts or long pants. Boys are chastised if they cry and therefore learn to hold back
their emotions. This could result in excess anger and frustration manifesting into aggression and
possible labelling of the child (UNICEF, 2015). People who internalize the social norms of society are
less likely to commit misdemeanours or advocate drastic social changes. In all societies, however,
there are individuals who do not follow culturally defined standards and social norms. This could be
due to not having received adequate socialisation. These people are usually considered to be eccentric,
mentally ill or criminals and are likely to end up being incarcerated (Anthro.palomar.edu, 2015).
Teaching in the twenty first century classroom brings a multitude of values, ethics, morals, attitudes
and standards. Students are more likely to come from diverse backgrounds which could include single
parent, same sex parents or grandparents as primary carers. These factors will influence how children
are socialised in the child s microsystem, as defined by Bronfenbrenner (as cited in

The United Nations ( Un ) Conference On Sustainable...
The United Nations (UN) Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012 led to the proposal for
sustainable development goals. The focus of this paper will be on Goal 14, Conserve and sustainably
use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development (United Nations Department of
Economic and Social Affairs, n.d.). Are the Targets Truly Measurable? The targets (1 7) of Goal 14 are
designed to provide ways to monitor the progress of this goal. Generally, these targets do this,
however, they do not provide specifics for the ways in which they should be measured. For instance,
target 14.1 refers to prevention and reduction of marine pollution, but there is no indication of the way
in which this can be done. Target 14.5 is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Canada, the government has measures to reduce threats of pollution from land based activities and
spills (Environment Canada, 2013). Globally, there is UNEP s Global Programme of Action for the
Protection of the Marine Environment from Land based Activities (GPA). At least 72 countries have
created programs of marine protection and pollution reduction since GPA was established (Global
Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land based Activities,
2014). It was difficult to find research to support whether target, 14.2 (sustainably manage marine
ecosystems by 2020) is being measured. The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of
UNESCO works with several global/intergovernmental programs of Ecosystem Health and Ocean
Observation. The IOC assesses marine environment globally working with national governments and
collects data on marine environment to help inform decision makers (UNESCO Intergovernmental
Oceanographic Commission, 2015). Target 14.3 addresses ocean acidification and minimization. In
the United States (U.S.), the NOAA s PMEL Carbon program has been working to determine how
ocean acidification affects marine ecosystems (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
PMEL Carbon Program, n.d.). The ICES/OSPAR Study Group on Ocean Acidification incorporates
different disciplines (e.g. chemistry, biology, etc.) to create a long term program to address
acidification (International Council for the

  • 2. Mayans Achievements Carson Ritchie 3rd The amazing achievements of the Mayans! The majestic Maya! These were people who, for more than 3,000 years have lived in Mesoamerica. More than a thousand years before the Spanish arrived the Maya had built a great civilization. The Maya s most remarkable achievements were based off of four things. Scale, genius , effort, and significance. In this essay, we will be looking at many great achievements that the Maya s have accomplished. The Maya had a very fancy trade network that went from Mesoamerica from Southern Mexico to Honduras (DOC A). They carried lots of products on these routes including shells, pearls , and sometimes even gold that they got sometimes from Colombia (DOC A). The Maya had to put a lot of effort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also used combinations of dots and bar symbols. This helped the Maya with time keeping (DOC C). If the Maya didn t have a symbol for zero, the system could not work properly. This achievement by the Maya was a great success but also took a large amount of genius and significance. The Maya created a 260 day calendar for rituals and ceremonies and a 365 day calendar that synced with Earth s orbit around the Sun. The two calendar cycles were used together. The Maya developed the calendar further than anyone else (DOCD). The Maya priest astronomer s took a lot of time to collect information and so they could predict what would happen with the systems and develop them (DOC D). This took a lot of effort and genius although it is not as significant today, it was very helpful to the Maya back then. The most remarkable achievement of the Maya is their ability to build cities. Scientists have found thousands of building remains in over 2,000 places (DOCB). Tikal has an estimated population of 75,000 and has packed buildings covering two miles (DOCB). All these buildings took a long period of time to build and with the resources they had with no transportation it would take even more effort. This achievement takes a lot of all four of the things on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were all focused on themselves and their families. Fernando knew that no help would be found here. The boy needed to rest for a bit, so he went over to find some shade on the other side of town. He settled towards a nice and big palm tree. He put Mia down right next to him and asked, Any words yet? Mia stared at him like she had no idea what he was talking about. With a sense of disappointment he then laid back and stared up at the sky. The entire time he was wondering what his parents were doing and what they would think of him when they saw him and his sister. He decided to sit down, relax, ... He then grabbed Mia and picked her up and headed towards the palm tree to grab what they needed and then left. They got to the remains of his home and waited for his parents while it was lightly drizzling. His parents weren t there yet. Fernando said, Where papa and mama, they should be home by now. Our culture along with many others has been consumed with the ease and pleasure of shopping, gaming, and social networking through online portals to the point that it has become an overwhelming problem for some people. What Internet Addiction Disorder is exactly has been the topic of much debate and so has what makes internet addiction so addicting. However, research on Internet Addiction Disorder is being pursued throughout the international community. Currently in China it is reported 13.7%, or about 10 million Chinese adolescent Internet users meet Internet addiction diagnostic criteria. It has developed into such a major concern in China that in 2007 China began limiting computer game use; present day laws now discourage more than 3 hours of daily game use (Block 307). In South Korea the average high school student spends 23 hours a week gaming. Numerous authorities have been growing concerned about the escalating number of individuals dropping out of school or work to spend time on computers. Over 1,043 counselors have been educated in the treatment of Internet addiction in South Korea, and over 190 hospitals and treatment centers have been enlisted. Also several preventive measures are now being introduced into their schools to help combat IAD. The dilemma is so serious in South Korea that a series of 10 cardiopulmonary related deaths have occurred in Internet cafés along with a game related murder. • 5. Why The Anti Equal Rights Amendment Introduction This essay will explore the reasons why the anti Equal Rights Amendment of the 1970s was successful in keeping the proposed amendment from being added to the Constitution. It starts with a discussion of the process in congress and what it took for the amendment to even reach the states for a vote, and the exact literature of the amendment. It continues by analyzing what caused the movement for the ERA, successes of the feminist movement in the 1970s and leaders in the pro ERA movement. The rest of the essay will discuss the Stop ERA campaign, its arguments against the amendment and how it succeeded in garnering enough support to prevent passage of the amendment. This subject is particularly important to discuss because our society continues to be riddled with gender inequality and sexual discrimination. Though legislative change does not guarantee societal change, it is certainly a necessary step, and the lack of an Equal Rights Amendment has put the issue of sexism in the United States on the backburner. It is necessary to examine the origins of the failure of the Equal Rights Amendment in order to fully understand what is holding the United States back as a country and what can be done to move forward and make meaningful changes in how we perceive gender and sexuality. Passing an Amendment In order to pass an Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, it must first be proposed by either Congress with a two thirds majority vote in ... • 6. Importance Of Animal Use For Entertainment The third reason that humans use animals is for entertainment. Animal circuses, aquariums, zoos, bullfighting, and dog fighting are examples of using animals for enjoyment. There has always been a conflict whether it is ethical to keep animals in captivity and away from their natural habitat just for fun. Humans started using animals for amusement since the ancient years. Even though the previous generations methods were more deadly and cruel, the same concept of animal use for entertainment is still applied. Kate Good, a famous author and animal activist, states in her article Five Cruel Methods Used to Train Animals That Will Make You Skip the Next Animal Show in No Time: When you stop looking at these attractions as an opportunity for you to see the animals you love, and see them for the profit driven businesses they truly are, the discrepancies between good intentions and cruel action becomes apparent. People visit the entertainment centers because they love animals without knowing why the animals act the way they do. The crowd applauses when an elephant rides a tricycle, when a cat jumps through multiple burning rings, when bears play soccer, or when dolphins draw Christmas trees. Do these animals understand what they are doing? Are they doing what they are doing because they enjoy it? No, evidence has revealed that animals go through a cruel process, also known as PHAJAAN, since their infancies to be trained for these humane activities for the public. ... • 7. Prostitution Is Legal For Human Trafficking Are you serious? Girls are not just objects, they are human beings just like everyone else. That disgusts me, are the thoughts I was having when I saw that Thailand has a total of around three million sex workers in their country, and the number is increasing. Prostitution is legal but human trafficking is not. How can we make prostitution legal and then not expect is to lead to more human trafficking around the world. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. Usually when you think about prostitution you think about out of the United States. But, now in the United States 1 out of 50 states have prostitution legal. Nevada is the only state where prostitution is legal. But it is still going on in other states in the United States. Prostitution was taken place, usually when a female needs money to support herself or maybe even her family. But, now parents are starting their kids to be prostitutes at the age of THIRTEEN! In Thailand, there are around three million people there are sex workers and around one third are MINORS. Luckily, it is way harder to have minors in the United States then it would be to have minors out of the country. Being a minor means that you are under the age of 18. This is called prostitution of children or child prostitution meaning prostitution involving a child. It is a form of commercial sexual exploitation of children. • 8. Literary Techniques Used in Mother to Son by Langston... Mother to Son, written by Langston Hughes, is a short poem about a mother who is teaching her son about perseverance and determination by using the image of a staircase. She explains that even though life has given her many hardships, she continues forward and she urges her son to do the same. In Mother to Son, Langston Hughes uses an extended metaphor, imagery, dialect, and structure to paint a picture of a weary mother who wants her son to persevere through the hardships of life. The theme of this poem is determination and the value of experience. The mother is telling her son that no matter what happens, he should never give up. A staircase that is broken would not be in a wealthy person s home, so this also shows us that she is poor. In the 1920 s, which was when this poem was written, many African Americans were moving from the South into the cities for a chance at making a living. Most of them were very poor and lived in poverty, which is why the staircases would be broken down, bare, and no carpet. The title, Mother to Son, tells us that this is a mother giving her son advice. Langston Hughes opens the poem by saying, Well, son, I ll tell you: (1), which could mean that the son had asked her about her life or that maybe he was complaining about his current struggles. The mother then begins to tell her son that her life has not been easy, but she never gives up and she urges her son to do the same: So boy, don t you turn back. Don t you set down on the step Cause you finds it s kinder hard. Don t you fall now The mother is telling her son that he should never turn around or sit down just because it gets tough, and she uses herself as an example. You can see the determination that this mother has. She keeps trying and persevering through her troubles, even when it seems like there is no hope, And sometimes goin in the dark / Where there ain t been no light. (12 13). • 9. Christianity And The Nature Of God If one is to write about Christianity and the nature of God, one must have a foundation to rely upon. Both theology and our epistemological queries concerning God must be crafted from a source. Michael Bird in his Evangelical Theology notes that the prolegomena or things we say before saying anything about God must be predicated upon a critical source. This source is God s Word and is revealed in multiple ways. If one is to conduct a Credo or apologetic stance of his Christian faith, this person ought to explain how God reveals Godself, especially through the Biblical text, but also potentially through creation. God revealing Godself through the God s Word is also known as Special Revelation; whereas, God revealing God s personality through creation is known as General Revelation or Natural Theology. First and foremost, there is a significant debate concerning the possibility of Natural Theology. Emil Bruner and Karl Barth famously debated this in the 1930 s as Barth argued that only the Holy Spirit can illuminate the person of God so that God is revealed to humanity. Without the illumination of the Holy Spirit, humanity is too deep in their sin to see God s handiwork throughout creation. John Calvin, on the other hand, believes that the knowledge of God has been naturally implanted in the minds of humanity. To prevent humanity from pretending that they were never aware of God s existence, God implants knowledge of God s divine majesty. Additionally, Calvin believes that ... • 10. Menace II Society Essay Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the hustler lifestyle and is struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and the characters around him violate many of society s norms. Throughout the film, the characters swear incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones, commit street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in this film were, [Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed robbery. However, he sees his only option of obtaining signs of wealth, like a nice car, are via street crime. Thus, Caine s deviance can be attributed to Strain Theory as well. Caine takes the deviant path of an innovator in order to achieve cultural goals. For instance, he makes and sells drugs for money and he mugs a man in order to get nice rims for his new car. Caine rarely shows any intention of using institutionalized means of achieving cultural goals he claims he was never fit for some boring job. However, it must also be considered that Caine was born into a family that belonged to an urban slum and whose way of life had crime woven into it. Caine grew up watching his father and his father s friends deal drugs while rarely working normal jobs. He claimed that he even learned how to make drugs from his father. As a result, it becomes evident that Caine had all the opportunity in the world to be turned on to the life of a hustler since it was the same life his father led and that his friends would later live as well. In this way, Caine s life is an ideal example of illegitimate opportunity theory since crime was fused into his way of life. Growing up a young black man in an urban slum certainly did not deter Caine from deviating either. He grew up with the stigma of a young Black man. This master status led Caine to believe that other people, specifically non Blacks, always thought that young black men were always in trouble. For example, when Caine ... • 11. Canadian Narrative It was a cool September morning in the 19th century, the brisk, dry breeze of Kentucky s Autumn winds struck my face. It woke me from my slumber within the dark, forlorning cave. The dim glow of dawn s sunrise was refreshing, it gave me a sense of hope that... maybe I could survive running away from my master and live in freedom. Maybe I truly could make it to Canada, it may be getting cold, but temperature could only douse my hope for so long. Standing and brushing the leaves off from my dress, I gathered myself and headed out onto the Underground Railroad; my path to liberty. The leaves crunched and tattered beneath my feet, and the comfort of the cave walls were left behind me. I couldn t hide forever, I had to face the harsh reality that there was going home now. It s unfortunate why I had to take the railroad, they were going to sell me to the Carolina s for my learning. And we all know South Carolina is the deepest south you can get. Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of forgiving. Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Bilinguals Language is an important way to communicate with people around us in the world, but many people around us speak more than one language. Bilinguals are people who can speak at least two languages. There is a lot of debating on whether monolinguals have better memory or bilinguals. Many research has shown similar results with similar experiments. It is true that monolinguals do know more words in a language, but when it comes to memory, bilinguals have a better memory (Kudo Swanson, 2014). Bilinguals do make grammar mistakes a lot and mix up the languages to get their point across but they are able to deliver their point across. Overall, they are better able to focus on what to remember. In all of the studies, I have reviewed bilinguals have outperformed monolinguals. Bilinguals are able to focus more on the task that is assigned to them as well as eliminate the distraction around them. Bilinguals have learned how to balance two languages in their life, they speak a different language at home and a different language at school. Bilinguals are able to pick up cues in their everyday life to deal with any type of situation. Bilinguals are able to attack the situation quickly and accurately than monolinguals Bilinguals do have outperform monolinguals in all tasks except in vocabulary. His father was the king of a clan named Shakyas named Shuddhodana Gautama, and his mother was queen Mayadevi ( The Birth of Buddha Kadampa Buddhism. ). One day, Queen Mayadevi went out to share food and clothes for the poverty people. After returning to the palace, the Queen had the dream that the white elephant descended from heaven and entered into her womb. After that, the Queen got pregnant. When she was giving birth of the child, she did not experience the pain. It was a miracle birth. The Hindu gods and godless came and blessed the child, and they took him from the side of the queen ( About Buddha. ). The baby stood up right after the delivery and he walked seven steps into four directions. He had the birthmark of a wheel or chakra at the bottom of his feet. Queen May died seven days after of Siddhartha birth. After that, Siddhartha was taken care by his mother s sister. • 17. Favorite Learning Experience During my early years of life, I absolutely loved learning new things. I would wonder around the house and garage and look for items that were interesting. I was a very tactile child, in which I needed to touch and feel objects and items in order to learn about them. My parents and grandparents taught me to count at a young age using money and household items. For example, every morning, I went to McDonalds with my grandfather, and I purchased a cappuccino to take home for my grandmother. The overall cost of the coffee would be 95 cents, and I would receive a nickel in change. When we left McDonalds, my grandfather would give me the nickel as long as I saved the nickels and counted them in the pickup truck. At a young age, I had already learned the alphabet and numbers. My absolute favorite learning activity and form of play as a young child included spending time with my grandfather on the new land, in which I helped build the house. I followed him around, played on the dirt pile, and was interested in the tools he would use to build cars and furniture. From birth to three years old, I was intrigued by toys that played music. For example, I used rattles to make noise, and I played music with a toy xylophone. My parents and grandparents also assisted in reading books with sounds and different textures for sensory input. My family also bought me a musical activity gym where I could flat on my back on a mat with a variety of toys that played music above me. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Streetcar Named Desire Naturalism Naturalism was a literary period that was highlighted between 1880 and 1940. Naturalists used to believe that nature was much more powerful than anything else which humanity would never overturn its power. Naturalists would use lifestyles, common characters, and plenty of personification associated with nature. Naturalists studied characters through their relationships with each different characters and nature alike. Taking an experimental stand on life, Naturalists were objective in life and allowed the natural order of things to progress. While not usually outlined as a realistic piece, some characteristics of Naturalism are apparent in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire. First, the play depicts lower class characters in ... Regardless of how arduous either of them tried, their lives were on a path that they would not be ready to deter from. Blanche s mental instability could lead to nothing but her being institutionalized and Stella s love for Stanley could lead to nothing but her staying with him. Naturalism was initially began by French author Emile Zola. Zola cast the road for alternative authors who wanted to tug away from the Romantic concepts of writing. Romantics viewed life through rose colored glasses (meaning they forced the sweetness of all things to the front). In essence, in their want to elevate nature and also the fantastic thing about nature, Romantics would often alter the realities of life. Naturalists, on the opposite hand, desired to point out life as it ultimately was (as an extension of Realism). The authors would usually be figurative scientific observers, stating solely what they observed in life while not manipulating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Direct Democracy Vs Representative Democracy Essay Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy The term Democracy is derived from two Greek words, demos, meaning people, and kratos, meaning rule. These two words form the word democracy which means rule by the people. Aristotle, and other ancient Greek political philosophers, used the phrase, `the governors are to be the governed , or as we have come to know it, `rule and be ruled in turn . The two major types of democracy are Representative Democracy and Direct Democracy. Clearly the arguments for and against each form of democracy are plentiful. However, it is my belief that theoretically, Direct Democracy is the superior form of political rule. Due to problems with in the direct democratic system, its use as a practical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not even thinkable that all citizens will agree on what good is. Rousseau recognized this and accepted a term of majority rule. Those who voted against a policy which is found to be the best for the general, must have been thinking of personal gains, rather than the gains of the entire society. The feature which distinguishes direct democracy from other forms of government is the idea of agreement and the key to agreement is discussion. It is impossible to reach an agreement without discussion, because it is not right to think that everybody will have the same opinion on all matters. But, it is very possible, that through discussion an agreement could be reached by all members. Representation, on the other hand allows a select few to make decisions in their own best interest, which is not necessarily the best interest of the society. However, direct democracy is not the perfect method to produce a union of the community. For a direct democracy to work, face to face communication between all members of the community is needed. The only way this is possible is to meet in large groups. Due to the fear of high tension, many citizens will not participate in these large group meeting. So in order for these fearful people to voice their opinions they must get together in smaller, less tensions groups, where they are not as timid to say as they wish to see happen. • 21. Comparing Hobbe s and Locke s Theories on Nature Two books that I am going to be drawing information from for my paper are Hobbes Leviathan and Locke s Two Treatises of Government. This essay will be focusing on the differences between Hobbes and Locke s ideas on the state of nature. One of the biggest, and in my opinion most important points that makes Hobbes different from Locke is his belief that the state of nature is equal to the state of war. Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher, who lived between 1588 and 1679. He witnessed multiple events throughout his life that later led him to write his book Leviathan, in 1651 once the war had ended. Hobbes witnessed the English Civil War (1642 1651), the interregnum period of England starting in 1649, and the hardest of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Hobbes PAGE NUMBER) After that Hobbes goes on to say, The life of man is solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short. (Hobbes) He argues that nothing is unjust in the state of nature. He believes that everyone has the right to do anything he/she wants because in the state of nature, there is no right or wrong and there is no law; everyone can do everything and nothing can be unjust. He says that Where there is no common power, no law; where no law, no injustice. (Hobbes) So all in all with Hobbes, he believes that all people are equal, therefore no power over the others in the state can be established. Everyone is the enemy to everyone else, therefore, no on can secure himself/herself, there is no property, and nothing is unjust. So overall, Hobbes state of nature is very pessimistic and is not a place to survive. Locke s idea of the state of nature is that everyone is equal to everyone. He states that, the state of nature is also the state of equality, wherein all the power and jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another.. (Locke) Locke however, does not think that this leads the people to war. He thinks that the state of nature is NOT equal to the state of war, but there is a chance of it becoming the state of war. It is the only Southeast Asian country that has never been under European rule. As archaeology studies suggests, 4000 B.C. was the time period where early bronze metallurgy centers were thriving. Metallurgy refers to the science and technology concerned with the properties of metals and their production. This development along with the cultivation of wet rice gave the motivation for social and political organizations to make an appearance. Also, research suggests that these new discoveries could have been transmitted to the rest of Asia, including China. The Thai are linguistically related to the Tai groups in Southern China because migration groups left from China and settled in Southeast Asia. Thai s date the founding of their nation to the 13th century. According to tradition, in 1238 the Thai chieftains overthrew the Khmer rulers and established a Thai kingdom in its place. This kingdom soon declined and a new Thai Kingdom emerged in 1350, the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. The first ruler of this kingdom, King Rama Thibodi, made two very important contributions to Thai history. One was the establishment and promotion of Buddhism as the official religion and the second one was the compilation of the Dharmashastra, which are laws based on Hindu and traditional Thai customs. • 26. Five Points Sociology The Truth: Irish immigrants were driven to America by the potato famine of the 1840s. This caused a massive influx of immigrants to New York City who were forced to settle for the cheapest and shabbiest lodgings in a poorer area of the city, known as Five Points. These kinds of conditions resulted in dirty, overcrowded spaces with relatively poor standards of living. Men typically worked at a trade, what we would now consider blue collar, or working class jobs, to provide for their families. Due to the fact that in this time, women were still not welcome in the workplace, many unmarried or widowed women were forced to turn to prostitution in order to support themselves. Gangs were formed to promote political candidates, and sometimes fought among themselves. There was also a building known as the Old Brewery, where more than 1,000 people supposedly lived. It was torn down in the 1850s so that the land could be used for a mission to do charity work. In the 1890s, Five Points was converted to factories and public buildings, essentially ending the Irish occupation of the area. Roundness features heavily in Chinese cultural iconography, in round mooncakes, round doorways, round windows, and round rice bowls, of the Chinese (Kingston 13). Its associations with perfection, harmony, and familial values serve as a reminder of the law: the family must whole, faithfully keeping the descent line by having sons to feed the old and the dead, who in turn look after the family (13). In other words, roundness is the status quo, which bears particularly harshly on women in hard times, when to be woman, to have a daughter in starvation time was waste enough (6). ... The prologue directed by Baz Luhrmann is a futuristic interpretation of Shakespeare s 16th century play. The prologue shows the tv newsreader describing the rivalry in Verona Beach and the deadly feud between Romeo s Montague family and the Capulet family of Juliet. Baz Luhrmann uses the newsreader as the narrator compared to Shakespeare s play. He uses the prologue to locate the action in the modern fictional Verona Beach USA, and to introduce the feuding families. The news reporter is reading Shakespeare s original text and tells the events that will lead to the tragic deaths of the star crossed lovers . Although Baz Luhrmann s prologue is delivered different from the original play the language is still the same. The dramatic scenes show images of violence and grief in a way that appeals to the ... • 34. Dramatic Ironry In O. Henry s Lamb To The Slaughter Short stories are an exeptional use of literary elements to an audience of all ages. Lamb to the Slaugher, by O. Henry, expresses many literary elements such as imagery and dramatic irony. Gift of the Magi is also an amazing use with foreshadowing and diction. Lamb to the Slaughter uses the elements better than Gift of the Magi in many different ways, starting with it s precise characters. Lamb to the slaughter expresses many literary elements, creating a story about Mary Maloney s experience with her husband. Dramatic irony is a very critical part of the story, especially while evaluating the situation. Personally, I think it s right here on the premises. Probably right under our very noses. What you think Jack? (Roald Dahl 9). She killed her husband with a frozen lamb leg after discussing troubling news that was never revealed. Mary called the police, who were also her husband s coworkers. The police never figured out what the weapon was or who killed him. Mary asked them of a favor to eat the lamb leg cooking in the oven, and the weapon was right under their noses when they were eating. Additionally, the imagery really helps the most crucial part of the story come alive. Mary walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head(Roald Dahl 4). The text could have just said she hit him with a lamb leg, but instead it elaborates and explains how it happened. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Wollstonecraft And Barbauld Women s Rights in the Eyes of Wollstonecraft and Barbauld I call with the firm tone of humanity; for my arguments, Sir, are dictated by a disinterested spirit I plead for my sex not for myself (Wollstonecraft 2). Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft and Rights of Woman by Anna Barbauld are two works that discuss the idea of women s rights. In many ways, the two works greatly relate to one another and the authors seem to believe in the same values, but they find ways that are both alike and different to portray their message of women s equality. In some sense she was sarcastic, and mocked the way women were looked upon such as when she says My own sex, I hope, will excuse me, if I treat them like rational creatures, instead of flattering their FASCINATING graces, and viewing them as if they were in a state of perpetual childhood, unable to stand alone. By emphasizing fascinating graces, she is mocking the norm expectation of how women were supposed to act during that time period. On the other hand, in Barbauld s poem, she mentions women s graces to their advantage. Go, gird thyself with grace; collect thy store Of bright artillery glancing from afar; Soft melting tones thy thundering cannon s roar, Blushes and fears thy magazine of war. (Barbauld) She suggests that women should use their lady like qualities men have established upon them to their advantage, rather than try to fight against it. It is clear that Wollstonecraft believed that women deserve equality to men and that the only reason they were not as equal was because they were not given the proper tools to be so (such as education). I will give an assessment of how the application of each can enhance my leadership effectiveness. I will cover how it has made me rethink preconceived ideas about what it means to be a leader to flowers. I will focus on the relationship between leader, follower and situations. When most people think of leaders they do not think about them needing to depend on anyone. Some would even think of it as a weakness, a concept I have myself had to overcome. In my mind, I associated interdependence with being weak in character. Character before this course defined to me as moral fineness and steadfastness. However, this course changed my concepts of exactly what character and characteristic of self, of a followers and leaders were. I now understand their relevance to leadership, followers and organizations. Hencley wrote about leadership theories approach maintains that leadership is determined not so much by the characters of the individuals as by the requirements of social situation (Gujral 2012, p. 108). Instead of only thinking in terms of personal character traits, I now recognize that there is distinguishing characteristic between in most everything like social, leadership, followers, and situations as well as personal. Oedipus the King was written as a play and performed in front of an audience. Sophocles shows in Oedipus the King that one cannot escape the fate of the gods. Throughout the play Oedipus struggles to find a solution and change all the troubles in his life. The play observes the story of Oedipus who defies the gods and through the journey experiences hardships in tragic flaw, tragic fall and tragic realization. Tragic flaw would be considered the negative aspect which influences the character. Teiresias, who is a blind prophet warns Oedipus of his horrible fate and Oedipus tells him Your life is one long night so that you cannot hurt me or any other who sees the light (Sophocles 1747). In this exchange Oedipus believes that he is all powerful and nothing can hurt him which shows his arrogance. Oedipus s arrogant behavior will end up costing him greatly as he continues through the story as if nothing can harm the king. Oedipus accuses Creon for his problems and Creon tells the citizens of Thebes what he believes, Citizens, I have come because I heard deadly words spread about me, That the king accuses me. I cannot take that from him (Sophocles 1751). Oedipus s arrogance spreads deep into his psychological thinking as he continues to believe that he cannot make mistakes and blames others. Examples Of Immortal Soul In Phaedo An Immortal Soul (Socrates in Phaedo) The idea of the soul s participation in the divine can also be found in ancient philosophy, and specifically in the writings of Plato. In Plato s Phaedo, Socrates, at his last moments of life, discusses the immortality of the human soul. He suggests that the human soul is immortal in that it preexists and also it survives death. The soul, according to Socrates, is divine and the body is mortal. The body is the soul s prison as long as it (the body) pursues worldly pleasures and as long as it is driven by senses that prevent it from pursuing true knowledge. To this category of people, the eschatological message of the gospel is more appealing than Christ s message of embracing suffering and showing a good example while living in the world of struggles. Thesis Statement Through the interaction between the divine and the human soul of Christ, God is able to lift the human soul into His divinity, such that through Christ, humanity is made divine and eventually sanctified. The whole human being, possessing both his sensible body and a soul experiences this action of salvation and sanctification. This therefore suggests that a holistic description of humanity helps us come to the understanding of the role of incarnation in reorienting humanity. He does not only reorient our minds but our bodies too. This therefore suggests that the natural affinity towards the divine, which pulls humanity away from the extremity of bodily inclination, is naturally implanted or rather fashioned in human soul. Incorporation of Natural Capital into Mainstream Policies Executive Summary This paper objectively advocates a paradigm shift that incorporates natural capital into mainstream policies, and businesses practices, at all levels. It sheds light on the role and importance of valuing natural capital; reasons why it has not been properly integrated into everyday decision making process; the risks associated with negligence; and the benefits of integration. A few examples were enlisted to help outline the opportunities that lie within the ecosystem, if only we can implement practices to utilize it sustainably. Individuals, corporations, and governments, must understand and account for their use of natural capital and be aware of the accurate cost of human and economic security. 1.0 Introduction Virgil (October 15, 70 BC September 21, 19 BC), a classical Roman poet once quoted the greatest wealth is health . In the quest for wealth, human beings degrade their health through actions such as sleep deprivation and stress from prolonged work just to make so much wealth which we ultimately spend on replenishing health. Depending on the level of damage done, we might not be able to sustain good health and die. The above statement, even though blinkered, is an opening for our broader focus of natural capital, which in spite of its utmost importance, is not appropriately implemented in modern day decision making process. Natural capital refers to environmental health and its primary function is life support. As human economic activities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguably, this war targets marginalized individuals in poor communities, more specifically; it targets poor Black and Latino youth. Chronopolous (2011) argues that graffiti is seen as a threat to social disorder and suggests that communities festered with graffiti are out of control (Chronopoulous 2011, pg. 77 78). Though, graffiti is deemed as legitimate when it is used to generate profit, which is seen through the recent increased demand for graffiti with the purpose of beautification and gentrification. Evidently, the growing concern over graffiti in public spaces is driven by the conflict graffiti creates when obstructing advertisements, which generate increased consumption and profit. It also demonstrates the lack of tolerance the dominant class has for the promotion of dominance by the lower class. Moreover, constant public proclamations which urged people to see graffiti writing as a social safety issue, has certainly influenced the demand for anti graffiti efforts and the attitudes upper and middle class whites had towards Blacks and Latinos (Chronopoulos 2011, pg. 87) There are many associations with graffiti writing, Hip hop being the first. Though the emergence of graffiti can be attributed to street gangs; which, they used to mark their territories (Chronopoulos 2011, pg. 79), graffiti began to merge with hip hop culture in the 70s (Chronopoulos 2011, pg. 82). • 46. Gender Socialisation Commences At Birth, Parental... Gender socialisation commences at birth, parental conditioning and expectations are confirmed with the introduction and expectations that girls play with dolls and boys play with trucks and cars. Girls are seen as the homemakers whilst boys are guided more towards building, climbing and rough and tumble play. This continues at primary school where girls are encouraged to wear dresses for their uniforms and boys shorts or long pants. Boys are chastised if they cry and therefore learn to hold back their emotions. This could result in excess anger and frustration manifesting into aggression and possible labelling of the child (UNICEF, 2015). People who internalize the social norms of society are less likely to commit misdemeanours or advocate drastic social changes. In all societies, however, there are individuals who do not follow culturally defined standards and social norms. This could be due to not having received adequate socialisation. These people are usually considered to be eccentric, mentally ill or criminals and are likely to end up being incarcerated (Anthro.palomar.edu, 2015). Teaching in the twenty first century classroom brings a multitude of values, ethics, morals, attitudes and standards.
