Prevention Of A Child Welfare Social Worker
This might happen when the social worker receives a report of possible problems from such sources as
mandated child abuse reporters, teachers, or simply anonymous citizens. In some cases, a child
welfare may be able to spot a possible child in need, particularly if she works in a school or other
facility that caters to children. Signs that a child may be in need of the intervention of a child welfare
social worker may vary. Children who are frequently getting in trouble, dealing with behavioral issues,
or show signs of neglect or abuse are often the children that catch the eye of these types of social
workers. Abuse and neglect, however, are major concerns for most child welfare social workers. The
signs of both neglect and abuse can be very subtle at times and difficult to spot to the untrained eye. A
child welfare social worker, they will be trained to recognize signs of neglect and abuse in children
and investigate. For instance, a child comes to school on a cold snowy day dressed in shorts, a t shirt,
and without a warm coat for the third time in a week. Upon further investigation, a child welfare
social worker notices that the child has not bathed. After interviewing teachers and other school
faculty members, the social worker also finds out that the child rarely has a packed lunch nor does he
have money to buy lunch. The child welfare social worker then has reason to believe that the child is
being neglected. After determining the possible problems that a child may be

Hair By Hilma Contreras And Park Cinema
Hair by Hilma Contreras and Park Cinema by Elena Poniatowska are short stories rich in their context
as depicted through their characters. Both authors depict similar male protagonists with specific
differences. The resemblance amongst these two characters is made prevalent through the portrayal of
male weakness. The primary character flaw possessed by both male protagonists is obsession. Aside
from obsession, there are comparable themes carried throughout both short stories. Hair and Park
Cinema both incorporate motifs including, destruction of beauty, hate, lust, and most prevalently,
obsession. Although there are several similarities between the two male characters represented in each
story, the women, however portrayed differently. Both authors use married men who obsess over
unattainable women. The wives depicted in each story have different reactions to their husband s
obsessive conduct. Nonetheless, the obsessiveness covered in both short stories results in rage.
In Hair by Hilma Contreras, Luciano, a pharmacist expresses his vexation with a young girl, Natividad
s beautiful long chestnut hair. In the story, the theme of obsession is displayed by Luciano s fixation
with Natividad s hair, If he lifted his eyes from his work, the hair was there, on the street, on the
balcony, at the window, on the terrace. There came a moment when his mind was so disturbed by the
effect of the mass of hair, that the prescriptions he was filling made no sense (Contreras

The Pros And Cons Of The World Bank
Angry protesting, political upset, governments falling, privatization failing, and money lost are a few
outcomes that influence the public opinion on the World Bank, and its involvement in many
underdeveloped countries. While the World Bank claims that reducing poverty across the globe is its
foremost priority, many opponents believe that it is responsible for increasing poverty. The World
Bank is a multifaceted organization that loans money to government around the world for
development.
One major complaint about the World Bank is that it causes high debt in developing countries. Even
though the loans are meant to help these countries, they end up causing the countries to take on debt
that they must pay interest on and remain under the conditions of the institution. Another is that as part
of their lending requirements; the World Bank has imposed rigorous conditions on recipient countries.
These requirements are known as structural adjustment programs. These programs force countries to
adopt their conditions, such as deregulation of capital markets, reformation of national companies to
private corporations, and downscaling of social welfare programs. Privatization of water supplies and
public pensions, and imposing fees for public hospitals and publics schools are among the debated
bank reforms. In his book, 50 Years Is Enough, Kevin Danaher describes the World Bank s policies as
austerity plans that reform economic policies by suffocating the poor and inviting

Leisure And Leisure Time Vs. Leisure Time
We do not only gain utility from our consumption. We also gain utility from leisure. Leisure time is
the time you spend outside of work. In the similar way of maximizing utility from our purchases, we
decide the number of hours of work that will yield us the highest utility, in other words, that makes us
the happiest. People make money by giving up some leisure time. The more leisure hours you
sacrifice to go to work, the more income you earn. Leisure time or activities are contrasted, implicitly
or directly, with worktime or productive activities. (Moore and Hedges, 1971) Leisure time could be
used for vacation, resting, playing golf or other activities that we enjoy doing. Thus, economists see
leisure as a normal good that provides us with satisfaction. On the other hand, income generates
purchasing power so we can purchase goods and services we desire. In other words, income gives us
satisfaction in an indirect way. As both income and leisure yield utility, everyone has their own
indifference curve between income and leisure, depending on personal preferences.
An indifference curve is constituted by a set of combinations of income and leisure hours that yield
the same level of utility. Indifference curves are downward sloping and convex to the origin. They are
parallel to each other they do not intersect. The distance between an indifference curve and the origin
indicates the utility level of the individual, as it gets longer, the satisfaction of the individual becomes

Water Conservation
WATER CONSERVATION
INTRODUCTION:
Water is essential for life on earth. Water is needed for growing food, keeping ourselves clean,
generating power, controlling fire and most importantly to stay alive! This list is simply non ending.
This shows that water is an integral part of our daily life and we are heavily dependent on it.
Water conservation
Refers to reducing the usage of water and recycling of waste water for different purposes such as
cleaning, manufacturing, and agricultural irrigation.
Water conservation can be defined as:
1. A reduction in water use accomplished by implementation of water conservation or water efficiency
measures; or, 2. Improved water management practices that reduce or enhance the ... Show more

Using less water also puts less pressure on our sewage treatment facilities, and uses less energy for
water supply to the grid.
Why should you conserve water?
There are many good reasons to conserve water. Water conservation can help meet future needs.
Saving water will save you money. Water conservation helps preserve the environment. Saving water
will save energy.
Although water conservation helps, some people have misconceptions about what water conservation
can and can t do. If we all work together to conserve water, we can help assure a bright and prosperous
life for future generations. Become an advocate of conservation in your community. Help promote
conservation as a wise and important water management principle.
[pic]SAVE MONEY
Conserving water saves you money! Not only will your water bill go down, but as you use less water,
your gas or energy bill will also decline. If your whole community conserves, you will also pay less
fees for water related services. Water conserving communities will not need to pay as much to develop
new supplies and expand or upgrade water and wastewater infrastructure.
Wise usage of water helps us in saving money. We have to pay for the water we use. If we use less
water, we will have more money left to spend on other things.

Research Paper On Bluefin Tna
Bluefin Tuna: Endangered Species
The common name for Thunnus thynnus, is bluefin tuna. It includes three of the eight species: the
southern bluefin tuna (Thunnus maccoyii), northern bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), also known as
the Atlantic bluefin tuna, and the Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis). The scientific classification
of the Bluefin is: Animaila (Kingdom), Chordata (Phylum), Actinopterygii (Class), Perciformes
(Order), Scombridae (Family), and Thunnus (Genus).
The size of the bluefin tuna is usually three meters in length, but sometimes can reach up to four
meters in length. The average weight for a Bluefin tuna is around 130 kilograms to 680 kilograms,
which is 286.6 pounds to 1499.14 pounds. The Bluefin tuna has ... Show more content on

Bluefin tuna eat other fish such as mollusks, crustaceans, and macro algae. Sharks and giant marine
animals prey on the bluefin tuna itself. Up to 72 parasites also host on the bluefin tuna. Farming the
bluefin tuna with chemicals can also impact the environment. Removing bluefin before spawning
affects the ratio of offspring. The bluefin tuna reproduces by spawning their eggs. The pacific bluefin
tuna lay eggs in the Western Pacific ocean. The Atlantic bluefin reproduce in the Gulf of Mexico and
the Mediterranean in the west. After the bluefin tuna lay their eggs, they do not look out for them. It
takes four to eight years for bluefin tuna to become sexually matured. The bluefin tuna can live up to
an estimated thirty to forty years, but many bluefin tuna are captured before they have the chance to
mature. The bluefin tuna can produce large amounts of eggs per year. The chance of survival for each
egg, however, is 1 in 40 million. The northern and southern Bluefin tuna are critically endangered. The
bluefin tuna has been exploited since recorded history began. The population is decreasing from the
demand for Bluefin tunas in high end sushi markets. It is a prized fish to eat. Many chefs, mainly in
Japan, buy them for a large amount of money. Also, illegal capturing of the bluefin tuna is a huge issue
and illegal fishing has not been controlled and constrained well. The market for canned tuna after
1960 removed a lot of bluefin tuna from the population. Although there is not an exact number of
bluefin tuna left, there is a very small amount left in the world. According to research, overfishing
caused the Pacific bluefin tuna numbers to drop 96 percent. Fishing fleets from the United States,
Mexico, South Korea and Japan are the main countries exploiting the bluefin tuna

2.3 The Physiological Effects on Employee Performance.
Over the last two decades, many studies have been done on the psychological and physiological
effects of motivation. Medical and scientific professionals who focus on the areas of neurology,
biology and similar science branches have carried out these studies in an effort to help people
suffering from the effects of low self esteem, severe depression, and even Extreme levels of anxiety. In
this article, we will explore the psychological and physiological effects of motivation. Although our
society is largely extrinsically motivated by external rewards such as money, fame and power,
research has indicated those who are intrinsically motivated by inner desires for creativity, ... Show

The Power of Motivation
Motivation is a powerful driving force that we all have to some degree. We put the motivation to work
on a daily basis. It is an essential key to basic survival psychologically and physiologically.
Motivation is the impulse, obsession, or pure desire to achieve specific goals in our life. For that
motivation to be effective in our lives, the energy that each of us has to work together in an effort to
put the power behind motivation. Motivation moves us, strengthens us, places us exactly where we
want and we must be in life. If the motivation that experience is positive, we are able to optimize our
physical and mental health in general.
People who lack sufficient or the right kind of motivation often experience a number of complications
in their life. These complications may include negative emotions, lack of self esteem, frustration,
dissatisfaction with life, and even depression. In addition to this, physical symptoms and issues such
as a rise in blood pressure, stress in the body and even ulcers can be effects that linger around
individual motivation. If you want to optimize your health, it is important to understand the role of
motivation in regards to the physiological and psychological aspects of who we are.

Examples Of Puberty In Alice In Wonderland
The Loss of Childhood Innocence: Puberty and Becoming a Woman in Alice in Wonderland
Throughout the course of the infamous book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice finds herself in
a very strange place after she falls through a rabbit s hole, a place called Wonderland. During her time
in the mysterious Wonderland, Alice goes through a variety of ridiculous physical as well as mental
transformations. Whether she is constantly growing bigger or smaller, Alice is faced with discomfort
for most of her time in this new adventure land. The distress that she feels at never being the right size
acts as a symbol for the changes that occur during adolescent puberty (Lough 306). Those who have
experienced puberty understand the constant fluctuations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was interesting to see how Alice s cognitive functions changed throughout the story. Lough explains
that Alice is very much captivated and intrigued with the life in Wonderland and the different animals
and people that lived there (314). Then, as the story progressed, she became more and more confused
by what the characters are saying, and realized that they did not make any sense to her anymore (314).
This can be seen when she is at a tea party with the Mad Hatter. After a conversation about the time,
the Mad Hatter explains to Alice that Time is a him, rather than an it (Lough 314). This explanation
can be confusing to someone who is not dealing with the side effects of puberty, let alone Alice, who
is dealing with such things. It can easily be seen by the read that Alice is confused confusion at the
Mad Hatter s remark when Carroll says, Alice felt dreadfully puzzled. The Hatter s remark seemed to
her to have no sort of meaning in it, and yet it was certainly English (105). Alice s sudden confusion
of what those around her are saying is directly correlated to the confusion that young girls encounter
when certain things start happening to their bodies. Alice is in a world, and going through a transition,
that is totally new to her and she is failing to comprehend it, which is normal, especially for a young
girl going through many scary and unfamiliar changes. It is a very foreign process, and there is
definitely going to be some bewilderment that occurs when these things

The Purpose Of A Mousetrap Car
The purpose of my mousetrap car design was to design a car that was both quick/traveled and creative.
The design of my car was one main piece of basswood and having two thin pieces on the side of that.
Each of those side pieces would have two whole in them (at the ends) so that I would be able to stick
an axel through them and put wheels at then end. I used a total of four wheels on my car so that the
whole thing was balanced. I used lego wheels and lego axles because I knew that because the axles fit
perfectly in the wheels, that the wheels would be straight and move easily. My wheels had a lot of
tread to them which helps them maintain a high degree of friction and it gives them a better grip to the
floor. I hypothesized that if the length

How Is Christopher Columbus Selfish
Following the light of the sun, we left the old world. , said Christopher Columbus the world s most
famous navigator. Christopher Columbus set out to cross the Atlantic, while he was on his journey he
discovered not only Americas, but also that the world was round.
Christopher Columbus was born in 1436 in Genoa, Italy. Columbus parents were Domenico Columbo,
and his mother was Susanna Foutanarossa. He was the oldest of four siblings. Their names were
Bartholomew Columbus, Gioranni Pellegrino Columbus. His family was Italian. Christopher s father
was a wool weaver. At a very young age Christopher worked as an apprentice for his father s wooling
business. He always loved studying maps and sailing ships. (britannica.com)
When he left his father s wooling business he was employed as a seagoer. He sailed the Mediterranean
Sea. When one of his ships crashed along the way he stayed at the coast of Portugal and became a
mapmaker. (eyewitnesstohistory.com)
As Christopher Columbus got older he got more interested in map making and traveling the seas. He
was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia. So that is what he set out to do.

Foucault s Power And Power
Foucault s Power (Intro) Power, what is power? Is it a thing, something that can be controlled by a
person or group? Or is it an omnipresent force with no clear distinction of what it is and what it is not?
My views before being introduced to Foucault was: power is an attainable thing, but elusive. For
example, it is said one has power, if one has enough money. Another example I commonly hear is that,
the government (the State, the law, police) holds too much power. My final example is, in my opinion,
power is usually viewed as a negative thing by ones that do not hold said power. Michel Foucault, a
philosopher, challenged the traditional view of power by analyzing power in a series of studies of
different forms of power, such as from his books: Madness and Civilization, Discipline and Punish,
and The Order of Things to name a few. What Foucault found through his critical observations was
that the concept of power in the traditional views were too narrow and specific; not a singularity
composed of only negative aspects but also a dualism that leans much heavier on the side of positivity
than vice versa and an omnipresent force (or rather relationships) that may be used through various
techniques but not owned at all.
DEFINITION OF FOUCAULT S POWER

They are formed during ageing in the temperature range between 400 and 600oC after the steels had
been solution annealed in the austenitic phase and air cooled which results in a martensitic
microstructure. Over the past half century, two major types of maraging steels have been developed,
the 18Ni maraging steels and the cobalt free maraging steels. The Standard maraging steels contain
18% Ni, 8% Co, 5% Mo and 0.4% Ti. But Ni, Co and Mo are very expensive strategic alloying
elements as cobalt reaches to levels as high as 8 to 13%. This keeps the steels rather expensive,
preventing wider selection and application, but with maximum strength levels reaching 2400 MPa,
accompanied by good toughness and ductility. Therefore, developing cobalt free maraging steel with
reduced quantities of expensive alloying elements to lower the production cost has been an important
direction of maraging steels research. Over the past two decades, enormous advances have been
achieved in the development of cobalt free maraging steels to high strength levels with Ni and Ti as
the major precipitation hardening phase in cobalt free maraging steels.
To overcome this problem, titanium was used as one of the primary strengthening element replacing
Co in steels, and to overcome the problem of retained

Rauch (1993), Crihfield and Panggaben (1995), Glaser et al (1995), Simon (1998), Simon and
Nardinelli (2002) and Glaser and Saiz( 2004) address human capital as impacting the economic
performance of the area and is also identified as the main determinant of growth in metropolitan areas.
Crihfield and Panggabean (1995) include four points of production function: labor, private physical

growth, geography as well as public capital investment to ascertain the large impact human capital has

Smith views gentrification as a negative thing, and a product of political economic shifts in local and
global markets (Smith pp.92) . He notes that this revanchist or French for Revenge city theme
aggressively re claims the city and tries to re infuse the city with middle class morals, standards and
costs. Gentrification also experiences a pattern of what many note as consumption in which those with
the sweat equity such as the LGBT community but some such as Rose (1984) suggested that first
wave gentrifiers were of small means, but were able to carve out spaces and enclaves of sage space
based on sweat equity Smith (1996) reintroduces the notion of the rent gap in gentrification. Knopp
(1987) mentions the increase in rents and the inability for pioneer gentrifiers in the gay community to
keep up with the increase in taxes and home prices.
Knopp (1990) analyzes the significance of gays in the gentrification process in New Orleans,
Louisiana. He finds that are three sets of events that present catalysts for neighborhood
transformation; the transformation included gay men, specifically white gay men who were active in
the community and also developers of the neighborhood. Knopp concluded that, ...the class interests

C Language
The C programming language (often, just C ) is a general purpose, procedural, imperative computer
programming language developed in the early 1970s by Dennis Ritchie for use on the Unix operating
system. It has since spread to many other operating systems, and is now one of the most widely used
programming languages. C also has had a great influence on many other popular languages,[1]
especially [[C++]] which was originally designed as an enhancement to C. It is the most commonly
used programming language for writing system software,[2][3] though it is also widely used for
writing applications. Though not originally designed as a language for teaching, and despite its
somewhat unforgiving character, C is commonly used in computer science ... Show more content on

The relatively low level nature of the language affords the programmer close control over what the
program is doing, while allowing solutions that can be specially tailored and aggressively optimized

mass produced consumer embedded systems, which today are as capable as the general purpose
machines originally used to implement C.

The Second Estate Formed A Chaotic State
France in 1793, was in a chaotic state. The masses of people that went against the aristocrats had
enough of the old policies. The civilians expressed their laws and policies during the early days of
Republicanism . Thus, the Third Estate embodied the enlightened principles of equality, liberty, and
fraternity . The Third Estate formed a National Convention and prevailed with radical ideologies. The
Third Estate wanted these laws so desperately that they relied on the corrupt Committee of Public

policies. France was suffocating. The country didn t have enough funds or food to sustain the
population. So the elites stayed wealthy and fed; only by shunning the rest of France. The people had
grown tired of the mistreatment placed upon them. Simultaneously, the radical National Convention

expressed his frustrations, The Republic is but an empty illusion when the counterrevolution takes
place daily because three quarters of the citizenry cannot afford the price of basic foodstuffs and no
one sheds a tear . Roux s angst is conveyed through the lack of necessities consumed because of the

Historical Background Of The Golden Summer Of 1991
(III) The Golden Summer of 1991
A] Historical Background:
India followed Import Substitution Industrialization policy up to 1991. The major highlights of this
policy included significant restrictions on imports (ensured by high tariffs and import control), limited
incentives to private sector, a large public sector (with focus on heavy industries) and an overvalued
exchange rate. Furthermore, there were restrictions on consumer goods too. Quantitative restrictions
such as import licensing and exchange control existed too. All of these policy measures were part and
parcel of what is known as barriers to an economy. The quantitative restrictions prevented the opening
up of the Indian economy. Thus, integration of India with the global village was to wait till 1991.
The period from 1976 to 1991 is known as ad hoc liberalization. It is during this period that businesses

the Government made a departure from socialist policies.
Politically speaking, in 1978 Janata Party formed the Government. The Janata Pary Government had
thought of modifying India s economic policy in order to attract foreign investment and to encourage
participation of private sector. However, ad hoc liberalization began during Rajiv Gandhi s tenure as

restrictions on industrial license and on import export prices.

throughout the Susquehanna Tree, the water is absorbed by the roots and the roots bring the water to

trunk, and down into the roots. The trunk grows because of the roots and the branches, just how the
ways of knowing are the necessity to the obtainment of knowledge. Because of the ways of knowing,
such as, sense perception, memory, reason, language, emotion, faith, imagination, and intuition, the

Mlab Concert Review
On November 18, 2015, I attended a UAB concert involving jazz combos and a guitar ensemble. This
concert was filled with amazing musicians, intricate solos, and thick harmonies. There were three jazz
combos and one guitar ensemble; the first set was the guitar ensemble, which contained four guitarists
and one bass player. The ensemble consisted of four songs: Swing It, a swing style song; Samba #1 ; A
Child is Born, a waltz; and Bill s Bay. The main theme of Bill s Bay was very catchy and memorable,
and the ensemble s most impressive player to me was Michael Galanti on the bass guitar. His solos
involved precise pizzicato and quick movement that I have never witnessed in a bass player. Next, the
series of jazz combos began, and a younger group of UAB students started to play. Their first song
was The Preacher by Horace Silver, and this song was the only song with lyrics. The singer was nearly
impossible to hear because she was singing in piano while the other group members were playing in
fortissimo. Also, I was startled by how loud the brass instruments sounded in the concert hall;
however, this is due to the trumpet being a haut instrument. Then, another combo began playing, and
this combo was under the guidance of Carlos Pino. The group brought more energy and more skill,

uses metaphors, symbolism, similes, as well as other literary elements to convey the importance of the
wall. Without the use of literary elements his poem wouldn t have the same effect on the reader, it
would change the whole poem and the way it s perceived. The theme of the poem is to respect others
choices or decisions.
Frost uses several metaphors within the whole poem to further the reader s visual picture of the
literature pieces. When they collect rocks to mend the wall he says some are loves and some so nearly
balls (17). He uses word such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned in the last poem the wall is an ongoing metaphor for their relationship. In lines 1 and 35
frost repeats the phrase Something there is that doesn t love a wall . This represents the Narrator s side
of the disagreement. He no longer want the separating him, from his neighbor, he wants to befriend
him. Several times he points how there is an entity or force that doesn t want the wall up. And that
maybe it s for the best if it isn t dividing them. That sends the frozen ground swell under it, And spills
the upper boulders in the sun; And makes gaps even two can pass abreast. (2 4). He suggests that
nature takes course in destroying the wall so they can meet. And even alter he suggests that maybe its
elves, That wants it down. I could say Elves to him But it s not elves exactly (36/37). In both lines 27
and 45 the neighbor states that Good fences make good neighbours. On the other side of the spectrum,
this is the neighbor s rebuttal as to why the fence should remain. The fence is to maintain their
nonexistent relationship. Without having the neighbors disagree on the fence the story would be

The Globalization Of The World Economies Is A Direct...
Over the past few decades, particularly during the 2000s, financial markets around the globe have
become increasingly interconnected (Shmukler, 2004). This mounting integration of the world
economies is a direct result of globalization. Particularly, the globalization of financial markets is
characterized by substantial cross national flows of capital and the development of a large foreign
exchange market. Every day around the world, banks and stockbrokers transfer vast amounts of
money across country borders in the form of retirement funds, hedge funds, insurance, and similar
investments. For instance, a German national is able to purchase Facebook stock which is an
American based company that went public to venture capitalists around the ... Show more content on

According to Schmukler (2004), when financial institutions in one country are under duress,
borrowers have the option to raise capital by issuing shares in domestic or international capital
markets. The globalization of finance make the valuing and distribution of capital more efficient as
changes in financial risks are revealed quickly. Furthermore, borrowers and investors can obtain better
terms on their financing as they are able to tap a broader pool of capital from a more diverse and
competitive array of providers (Häusler, 2002). Corporations can afford tangible investments because
they have become substantially cheaper. As a result, these reduced rates improve economic activity
and growth, in addition to economic prosperity. Emerging enterprises and reputable banks can source
funds from a diverse group of providers, and build their businesses.
On the other hand, the pitfalls of financial globalization include: the instability of markets, distortion
of the allocation of capital, emerging companies and banks are vulnerable because of inadequate
regulation, and the contagion phenomenon. The globalization of financial markets are volatile and this
may threaten markets. When the globalization of financial market occurs, financial risk will become
actively traded among companies, investors, and other nations. Consequently, it becomes challenging
to pinpoint potential challenges and measure

Disillusionment In The Jungle
In the politically righteous book, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, a newly wed s feeling of innocence
and happiness after their beautiful wedding in their homeland come to an end following the reality of
discovering their new life in America. The notion comes from the disillusionment of American
freedom and the twisted advertisement of a capitalist system. America was systematically built to be
corrupt and dehumanized the significance of individual existence. This was done by easily replacing,
deceiving and exploiting people for the self interest of the wealthy.
The Jungle depicts the exploitation of immigrant lives in Packingtown, a town near Chicago. The
small industrialized town is filled with oppressing poverty, dangerous and ... Show more content on

He becomes a tireless advocate for socialism and gets a job as a porter in a socialist run hotel. People s
lives matter more than the meat and food industry. The world does not revolve around taking
advantage of the poor working class and treating them like active robots. Humans are living, not
inanimate.
Humans are the equivalent to animals in the meat industry for the purpose of profit. Jurgis tours the
slaughterhouse. He describes the detachment in the work environment with the slaughtering and
packaging of hogs. The hogs are not treated kindly or even thought of as animals just as sales. There
was a long line of hogs, being simultaneously swung up and then another, and another squealing] and
lifeblood ebbing away together. (Sinclair 39) There is an orderly way to set up the slaughterhouse to
distract the poor immigrants of the American lifestyle. The worker wants to give more to their family
and add to their financial status even if it means being away from their home country. Businesses take
advantage of workers valuing their work ethic more than the idea of being miserable at work so it is

Choosing A Baby Is A Big Decision For Most People
Deciding to have a baby is a big decision for most people. This decision does not stop at whether or
not to have a baby, but continues on with the decision of where, how, and with whom to have their
baby. There are many options to consider when making this decision. Unfortunately, many people are
unaware that the traditional method of going to an OB/GYN is not their only option. No matter what
insurance provider a person has, there is always the option of going to a CNM for pre and post natal
care.

One third of U.S. births are C sections (ACNM, 2013). Most states, thirty three out of fifty, require
private insurers to cover CNM services and Medicaid requires all states to provide coverage

Births attended by Birth Connections take place in hospital in the Labor and Delivery suites at Self
Regional Healthcare. Birth Connections operates in accordance with the American College of Nurse
midwives, the ACNM, and supports their goal of providing women with a safe, positive childbirth
experience. They advocate a low technology approach to labor that includes intermittent auscultation
of fetal heart sounds instead of continuous monitoring, non pharmacological methods for pain relief,
and freedom of movement of the mother during labor. Births attended by Lexington Women s Care s

They use the traditional method of fetal monitoring, IV antibiotics and Oxytocin (if necessary),
periodic physical examination, and manually rupturing the amniotic sac (if necessary) to encourage
labor and delivery to progress more quickly. Although this is the traditional method, there are other
options such as having a doula present for labor support or refusing pain medication in order to
experience a more natural birthing process. Both methods of care have their perks, such as the option

Meyer Inc s financial statements. In determining the power to direct the activities of a VIE that most

Lack of Service: You may be in a location where there are no wireless broadband alternatives or may

Data Speeds: While there are some fairly fast wireless broadband connections, it may be some time
before they will compare to wired or cable connections. Malfunctions: Cell sites can stop working for
various reasons. Repairs often need to be made on site and may take time. Broadband services require
one or more pieces of equipment at your house which you will need to fix if it fails. Wireline
equipment can normally be repaired at the central office. Murphy s Law says breakdowns will happen
at the worst possible time. You Have No Backup: Unless you have an extra cellular phone, if
something happens to your main phone or its associated equipment, or your account, you can t just
plug another phone into the wall. Inconvenience: Some alternative services only offer a single jack for
one phone. If you want service throughout the house you either must go wi fi or cellular. Otherwise,
plan on using the phone near your computer or router. With a cell phone you need to keep it close to
you if your home is large or on multiple floors. It Might be Difficult to Get a Job: Some employers

Research Paper On Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality
By Naqi Ahmad
Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user s environment in real time. So
unlike virtual reality which creates a very artificial environment. A.R uses the existing environment
and overlays new information on top of it.
Overview
In 1960 the First Augmented Reality System was created by Ivan Sutherland. He went on to invent the
head mounted display and suggested It was a window into the virtual World . Bob Sproull his student
helped Ivan Sutherland to create the first Augmented Reality headset, it was called the Sword of
Damocles. The term Augmented Reality was coined by researcher Tom Caudell in 1990s. In 1994
Julie Martin Creates the very first augmented reality theatre production, by doing this she brought
augmented reality into the media. The camera systems started to develop by 2005 that can analyse

became the basis for Augmented reality systems to integrate into reality with virtual entities. Google

Freud s Developmental Stages Essay
Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human
psychological development and developmental problems.
A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages:
Birth 1 year: Oral Stage.
This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and
from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force.
When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next stage
which is solid food.
Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression.
The individual could suffer from difficulties with food, oral behaviours such as smoking, gossip and
other more aggressive verbal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1 3 years: The Anal stage. â€oeWhere gratification is derived from gaining control over withholding
or eliminating faeces†Dryden s
Handbook of Individual Therapy pg 32
This stage is concerned with child s need to do things on their own terms, the conflict arises for them
where they have a need to assert their own will but also crave parental approval, this time can produce
a battle of wills between parent and child.
Age 3 6 years: The phallic stage.
At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the roles
they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the same sex role
models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as there are many
single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would not have been
accepted.
However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious
about sexual differences.
This is a very important stage in psychological development. There are some differing accounts about
what the Oedipal complex truly represents but it is clear it is a time of confusion for a

Mental Illness and Violent Crime
The stereotype that goes hand in hand with mental illness that though seems to have improved over
the years is still pervasive. Teplin, Abram McClelland (1994) state that people in general, believe that
people with mental illness are more likely to commit violent crime with those without mental illness.
In their study they seek to find evidence to that statement to learn if having a mental illness increases
the likeliness of violent crime and recidivism after release from prison. This author seeks to discover
the same using similar data to learn if there is a connection between violent crime and mental illness.

institutionalized individuals in two waves. In wave one; data was collected between 2001 and 2003
and in wave two, between 2004 and 2005. The definition of mental illness for this study was those
with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder which are in line with the other
studies in this review. The data used was obtained from the National Epidemiological Survey on
Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC). This data was examined by the researchers with SAS
where they used univariate rates of violence and bivariate relationships between mental disorder
between the two waves and then multivariable connections to see the relationship between mental
illness and violence. Their results were in contrast with recent findings that there is little connection
between mental illness and violence. The results show that people with severe mental illness have
higher risk of violence than those with no mental health or substance abuse issues. Dorn et al. (2012)
also state that the NESARC data shows a causal relationship between severe mental illness and risk of
violence.
There is an understandable desire among law enforcement persons to be able to predict the likelihood
of a mentally ill person to commit a violent crime. What is interesting to this author is that a large
amount of research on the matter states that there is no connection and no

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Introduction
Acute respiratory distress syndrome, also known as ARDS, is the abrupt collapse of the respiratory
system. It can advance in anyone 1 year and older who is critically ill. An individual with ARDS has
accelerated breathing, difficulty getting adequate air into the lungs and decreased blood oxygen levels.
ARDS normally develops in people who have major injuries or already ill with another disease. ARDS
is usually a hospital acquired disease. ARDS is normally grouped with an almost indistinguishable
condition called acute lung injury, but people with ARDS have much decreased oxygen in their blood,
the condition is more dangerous. ALI can progress into ARDS if the oxygen levels continue to
decrease.
What causes ARDS?
No one is certain about exactly what triggers ARDS, but it normally happens when you are previously
ill or severely injured. Examples of conditions that may cause ARDS include: drug overdose, bacterial
infection in the blood (sepsis), pneumonia, aspiration, near drowning, breathing in poison, multiple
blood transfusion and severe injury. ARDS usually develops very rapidly, normally within 12 to 48
hours after the circumstance that caused it (Mancini, 2013).
Signs and Symptoms of ARDS
Initial symptoms of ARDS may include: low blood pressure, confusion, loss of consciousness, fatigue
or extreme tiredness, anxiety or a feeling of impending doom, fever caused by infection, faster
breathing, severe respiratory distress, agitation and rapid heart rate. ARDS

  • 2. Prevention Of A Child Welfare Social Worker This might happen when the social worker receives a report of possible problems from such sources as mandated child abuse reporters, teachers, or simply anonymous citizens. In some cases, a child welfare may be able to spot a possible child in need, particularly if she works in a school or other facility that caters to children. Signs that a child may be in need of the intervention of a child welfare social worker may vary. Children who are frequently getting in trouble, dealing with behavioral issues, or show signs of neglect or abuse are often the children that catch the eye of these types of social workers. Abuse and neglect, however, are major concerns for most child welfare social workers. The signs of both neglect and abuse can be very subtle at times and difficult to spot to the untrained eye. A child welfare social worker, they will be trained to recognize signs of neglect and abuse in children and investigate. For instance, a child comes to school on a cold snowy day dressed in shorts, a t shirt, and without a warm coat for the third time in a week. Upon further investigation, a child welfare social worker notices that the child has not bathed. After interviewing teachers and other school faculty members, the social worker also finds out that the child rarely has a packed lunch nor does he have money to buy lunch. The child welfare social worker then has reason to believe that the child is being neglected. After determining the possible problems that a child may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both authors depict similar male protagonists with specific differences. The resemblance amongst these two characters is made prevalent through the portrayal of male weakness. The primary character flaw possessed by both male protagonists is obsession. Aside from obsession, there are comparable themes carried throughout both short stories. In Hair by Hilma Contreras, Luciano, a pharmacist expresses his vexation with a young girl, Natividad s beautiful long chestnut hair. In the story, the theme of obsession is displayed by Luciano s fixation with Natividad s hair, If he lifted his eyes from his work, the hair was there, on the street, on the balcony, at the window, on the terrace. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of The World Bank Angry protesting, political upset, governments falling, privatization failing, and money lost are a few outcomes that influence the public opinion on the World Bank, and its involvement in many underdeveloped countries. While the World Bank claims that reducing poverty across the globe is its foremost priority, many opponents believe that it is responsible for increasing poverty. The World Bank is a multifaceted organization that loans money to government around the world for development. One major complaint about the World Bank is that it causes high debt in developing countries. Even though the loans are meant to help these countries, they end up causing the countries to take on debt that they must pay interest on and remain under the conditions of the institution. Another is that as part of their lending requirements; the World Bank has imposed rigorous conditions on recipient countries. These requirements are known as structural adjustment programs. These programs force countries to adopt their conditions, such as deregulation of capital markets, reformation of national companies to private corporations, and downscaling of social welfare programs. Privatization of water supplies and public pensions, and imposing fees for public hospitals and publics schools are among the debated bank reforms. In his book, 50 Years Is Enough, Kevin Danaher describes the World Bank s policies as austerity plans that reform economic policies by suffocating the poor and inviting ... • 5. Leisure And Leisure Time Vs. Leisure Time We do not only gain utility from our consumption. We also gain utility from leisure. Leisure time is the time you spend outside of work. In the similar way of maximizing utility from our purchases, we decide the number of hours of work that will yield us the highest utility, in other words, that makes us the happiest. People make money by giving up some leisure time. The more leisure hours you sacrifice to go to work, the more income you earn. Leisure time or activities are contrasted, implicitly or directly, with worktime or productive activities. (Moore and Hedges, 1971) Leisure time could be used for vacation, resting, playing golf or other activities that we enjoy doing. Thus, economists see leisure as a normal good that provides us with satisfaction. On the other hand, income generates purchasing power so we can purchase goods and services we desire. In other words, income gives us satisfaction in an indirect way. As both income and leisure yield utility, everyone has their own indifference curve between income and leisure, depending on personal preferences. An indifference curve is constituted by a set of combinations of income and leisure hours that yield the same level of utility. Indifference curves are downward sloping and convex to the origin. They are parallel to each other they do not intersect. The distance between an indifference curve and the origin indicates the utility level of the individual, as it gets longer, the satisfaction of the individual becomes ... Examples Of Puberty In Alice In Wonderland The Loss of Childhood Innocence: Puberty and Becoming a Woman in Alice in Wonderland Throughout the course of the infamous book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice finds herself in a very strange place after she falls through a rabbit s hole, a place called Wonderland. During her time in the mysterious Wonderland, Alice goes through a variety of ridiculous physical as well as mental transformations. Whether she is constantly growing bigger or smaller, Alice is faced with discomfort for most of her time in this new adventure land. The distress that she feels at never being the right size acts as a symbol for the changes that occur during adolescent puberty (Lough 306). It was interesting to see how Alice s cognitive functions changed throughout the story. Lough explains that Alice is very much captivated and intrigued with the life in Wonderland and the different animals and people that lived there (314). Then, as the story progressed, she became more and more confused by what the characters are saying, and realized that they did not make any sense to her anymore (314). This can be seen when she is at a tea party with the Mad Hatter. After a conversation about the time, the Mad Hatter explains to Alice that Time is a him, rather than an it (Lough 314). This explanation can be confusing to someone who is not dealing with the side effects of puberty, let alone Alice, who is dealing with such things. It can easily be seen by the read that Alice is confused confusion at the Mad Hatter s remark when Carroll says, Alice felt dreadfully puzzled. The Hatter s remark seemed to her to have no sort of meaning in it, and yet it was certainly English (105). Alice s sudden confusion of what those around her are saying is directly correlated to the confusion that young girls encounter when certain things start happening to their bodies. Alice is in a world, and going through a transition, that is totally new to her and she is failing to comprehend it, which is normal, especially for a young girl going through many scary and unfamiliar changes. The design of my car was one main piece of basswood and having two thin pieces on the side of that. Each of those side pieces would have two whole in them (at the ends) so that I would be able to stick an axel through them and put wheels at then end. I used a total of four wheels on my car so that the whole thing was balanced. I used lego wheels and lego axles because I knew that because the axles fit perfectly in the wheels, that the wheels would be straight and move easily. My wheels had a lot of tread to them which helps them maintain a high degree of friction and it gives them a better grip to the floor. I hypothesized that if the length ... • 12. Foucault s Power And Power Foucault s Power (Intro) Power, what is power? Is it a thing, something that can be controlled by a person or group? Or is it an omnipresent force with no clear distinction of what it is and what it is not? My views before being introduced to Foucault was: power is an attainable thing, but elusive. For example, it is said one has power, if one has enough money. Another example I commonly hear is that, the government (the State, the law, police) holds too much power. My final example is, in my opinion, power is usually viewed as a negative thing by ones that do not hold said power. Michel Foucault, a philosopher, challenged the traditional view of power by analyzing power in a series of studies of different forms of power, such as from his books: Madness and Civilization, Discipline and Punish, and The Order of Things to name a few. What Foucault found through his critical observations was that the concept of power in the traditional views were too narrow and specific; not a singularity composed of only negative aspects but also a dualism that leans much heavier on the side of positivity than vice versa and an omnipresent force (or rather relationships) that may be used through various techniques but not owned at all. DEFINITION OF FOUCAULT S POWER I will use this section to elaborate on each of the five points that according to Clare O Farrell s, a scholar at QUT (Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia), key concepts page, on her website ... They are formed during ageing in the temperature range between 400 and 600oC after the steels had been solution annealed in the austenitic phase and air cooled which results in a martensitic microstructure. Over the past half century, two major types of maraging steels have been developed, the 18Ni maraging steels and the cobalt free maraging steels. The Standard maraging steels contain 18% Ni, 8% Co, 5% Mo and 0.4% Ti. But Ni, Co and Mo are very expensive strategic alloying elements as cobalt reaches to levels as high as 8 to 13%. This keeps the steels rather expensive, preventing wider selection and application, but with maximum strength levels reaching 2400 MPa, accompanied by good toughness and ductility. Therefore, developing cobalt free maraging steel with reduced quantities of expensive alloying elements to lower the production cost has been an important direction of maraging steels research. Over the past two decades, enormous advances have been achieved in the development of cobalt free maraging steels to high strength levels with Ni and Ti as the major precipitation hardening phase in cobalt free maraging steels. To overcome this problem, titanium was used as one of the primary strengthening element replacing Co in steels, and to overcome the problem of retained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This concert was filled with amazing musicians, intricate solos, and thick harmonies. There were three jazz combos and one guitar ensemble; the first set was the guitar ensemble, which contained four guitarists and one bass player. The ensemble consisted of four songs: Swing It, a swing style song; Samba #1 ; A Child is Born, a waltz; and Bill s Bay. The main theme of Bill s Bay was very catchy and memorable, and the ensemble s most impressive player to me was Michael Galanti on the bass guitar. His solos involved precise pizzicato and quick movement that I have never witnessed in a bass player. Next, the series of jazz combos began, and a younger group of UAB students started to play. • 30. Freud s Developmental Stages Essay Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human psychological development and developmental problems. A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages: Birth 1 year: Oral Stage. This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force. When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next stage which is solid food. Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression. The individual could suffer from difficulties with food, oral behaviours such as smoking, gossip and other more aggressive verbal ... At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the roles they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the same sex role models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as there are many single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would not have been accepted. However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious about sexual differences. This is a very important stage in psychological development. • 31. Mental Illness and Violent Crime The stereotype that goes hand in hand with mental illness that though seems to have improved over the years is still pervasive. Teplin, Abram McClelland (1994) state that people in general, believe that people with mental illness are more likely to commit violent crime with those without mental illness. In their study they seek to find evidence to that statement to learn if having a mental illness increases the likeliness of violent crime and recidivism after release from prison. This author seeks to discover the same using similar data to learn if there is a connection between violent crime and mental illness. The data gathered in the Teplin, Abram McClelland (1994) research was conducted in the Cook county jail in Chicago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researchers of the Dorn et al. (2012) study conducted in person interviews with non institutionalized individuals in two waves. In wave one; data was collected between 2001 and 2003 and in wave two, between 2004 and 2005. The definition of mental illness for this study was those with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder which are in line with the other studies in this review. The data used was obtained from the National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC). This data was examined by the researchers with SAS where they used univariate rates of violence and bivariate relationships between mental disorder between the two waves and then multivariable connections to see the relationship between mental illness and violence. Their results were in contrast with recent findings that there is little connection between mental illness and violence. The results show that people with severe mental illness have higher risk of violence than those with no mental health or substance abuse issues. Dorn et al. (2012) also state that the NESARC data shows a causal relationship between severe mental illness and risk of violence. There is an understandable desire among law enforcement persons to be able to predict the likelihood of a mentally ill person to commit a violent crime. What is interesting to this author is that a large amount of research on the matter states that there is no connection and no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
