Childhood And Going Into Adult Hood
Attachment is defined as affection, fondness or sympathy for someone or something.
There have been different researchers and various types of research that has been done over the
years to try and uncover the mystery that what happens in the first few years of your life will
determine what happens in the later stages on childhood and going into adult hood. Research into
the subject of insecure attachment sparked an interest in the world of psychology in 1948 with the
research John Bowlby did on maternal attachment. Bowlby interviewed 44 juvenile thieves who
were in a protection programme and 44 other juvenile who have not yet committed any crime to act
as the control group what he did next was brought all the parents and interviewed ... Show more

In addition, although that the majority went to prove what he was testing it is not 100% true as
there was 14% who were not separated and still went on to commit crime, this leads to other theory
s getting created.
Another psychologist who has had major input in the subject of attachment is Spitz and Wolf
(1946). Spitz and Wolf (1946) studied 91 orphanage infants in USA and Canada (3) , what they
found amazed the world of attachment. They found that despite getting better care and maintaining
adequate health many had died before their first birthday. This and Bowlby s research lends a hand
in understanding attachment and both complement each other in facts. Seen as Bowlby was
researching about the critical stage in development the research that Spitz and Wolf did also proves
that.
This is because both of the infants were apart from a proper caregiver during this stage and this
effected their later development unfortunately for a third of Spitz and wolfs participants the latter
development never happened. There is an issue with both of these studies and it is in the time of
which they were doing their research.
In the Mid 1940 s Men were coming back from the war and at that time the women were in the
roles men were previously. Therefore there was urgency to have a reason for the mothers

The Banking Concept Of Education
In the excerpt from The Banking Concept of Education the author, Paulo Freire explains the critical
flaw in the current education system. He continues by offering his believed solution to this
problem. The two concepts Freire discusses in this excerpt are the banking concept of education and
the problem posing method of education. The banking concept is talked about rather negatively,
whereas the problem posing method is talked about highly. Freire believes in the problem posing
method and that students should have free will to a certain extent in the classroom with less
authoritative power from the teacher during discussions.
This flawed concept in education today is the oppressive depositing of information (banking
education) by teachers to students. Banking education (for obvious reasons) attempts, by
mythicizing reality, to conceal certain facts which explain the way people exist in the world...
(p.224) The banking concept is an act that hinders the intellectual growth of students by turning
them into receptors and collectors of information that have no true connection to their lives. The
banking concept is essentially turning humans into objects. Banking education inhibits creativity
and domesticates (although it cannot completely destroy) the intentionality of consciousness by
isolating consciousness from the world, thereby denying people their ontological and historical
vocation of becoming more fully human. (p.224) This type of education

Fiber Optic Biosensors
Abstract:
This paper studies the clinical use of fiber optic biosensors, its advantages over traditional means of
detection and limitations of this new technology. An in depth study of its history, how the
technology works, and comparisons with older methods of bio sensing will also be made.
Introduction:
A biosensor is a device or method that allows a certain specific biological material to be detected.
Common forms of detection are Fluorescence techniques, Raman Scattering, Plasmon Resonance,
Near infrared Spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. These detection methods each
have distinct advantages and disadvantages, and can adapt to a variety of different applications for
different situations. However, traditional methods of biosensing usually requires the molecule to be
labeled with an analyte, which must be chemically bound the molecule that is to be detected,
making such methods slow, cumbersome and sometimes even toxic to the body.... Show more

Besides being used in biosensing, fiber optics has been used in various telecommunication and high
speed networks around the world, replacing or supplementing traditional copper wires. This is due
to the rapid advancement of relatively new technologies from fiber optics: the laser and the low
cost of fiber optics production. Fiber optic biosensors also have excellent light permeability, easy
and cheap to manufacture, able to illuminate the target with light and also able to transmit the light
that is emitted by the target after

Technology In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a product of the era of its conception. Originally published in 1818,
the novel found itself released at the height of the Industrial Revolution. During this tumultuous
time period, many nations and peoples found themselves witnesses the dawn of a new era and a
new way of life. Industrialization brought with it the possibility and promise of a simplified and
more efficient way of living. But with such bold potentialities came the fear of going forth into the
unknown. Shelley s Frankensteinis a response to the new technological advances seen in her life
and is a cautionary tale about boldly going in the new industrious age. In Frankenstein, Shelly
creates a narrative of a man throwing caution to the wind with... Show more content on

In the world we live in we see many examples of human s working towards combating the limited
existence we have on this Earth. The field of medicine has greatly benefited the quality and
longevity of human life. In this way, the facet of Frankenstein s pursuit for circumventing death
is present in today s world as we are seeing people being able to live longer and healthier lives
thanks to advances in medicine and the medical field. But Shelley did not create Frankenstein as
a character entrenched in the search of a longer life, but rather to be able to hold the reins of
existence and to create life itself. Shelley is clear with her stance on the idea of mankind
attempting to supersede a creator and become creators of life themselves. Frankenstein is seen as
being greatly affected by his creation and the very nature of his actions. After the creation of his
monster, Frankenstein is stricken with illness: I passed the night wretchedly. Sometimes my pulse
beat so quickly and hardly that I felt the palpitation of every artery; at others, I nearly sank to the
ground through languor and extreme weakness (Shelley p. 36). This is Shelley presenting the idea
that should a person perform such an act as to create an abomination of life that they would be
going against such an innate tendency of humans. And in doing so, their own body would react to
such aberration that they would be wracked with physical torment.

Carson, Illinois At The World s Busiest Corner Between...
Carson, Pirie Scott Building (1899 1904) is also known as Schlesinger Mayer Store which is
located in Chicago, Illinois at The World s Busiest Corner between State and Madison Street. This
building was designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler for the retail firm Schlesinger and
Mayer in 1899.
Carson, Pirie Scott Building is quite unusual building compared to other buildings as it
continuously developed overtime (Fig 1). Louis Sullivan considered Schlesinger and Mayer s
aspect, giving the new presence and atmosphere to the store among its neighbours along State Street
, of the building that lead him to design rounded corner entrance according to the site. The Building
is surrounded by the buildings but it stands out definitely. And also, the relation to the other
buildings brings the contrasting atmosphere due to its difference and ornamented exterior. There is
three possible entrances to the building (The main grand entrance and two of the entrances to the
office in each side of the street.) The Chicago Department Store is a Landmark as it stood from the
Field Museum of Natural History also has been a Chicago Landmark since 1975.
The exterior of Carson Pirie Scott Building shows Sullivan s own style with his motif of nineteenth
century architecture were the expression of people s particular way of life. The expression of the
columns and the beams (Fig.2.) were giving architectural function to the building for the office area
especially. By reading up the columns

Review Of The Kitab Al Fihrist
Early references[edit] In 988 Ibn al Nadim compiled the Kitab al Fihrist which mentions Jabir as
a spiritual follower and as a companion to Jafar as Sadiq, the sixth Shia Imam. In another
reference al Nadim reports that a group of philosophers claimed Jabir was one of their own
members. Another group, reported by al Nadim, says only The Large Book of Mercy is genuine
and that the rest are pseudographical. Their assertions are rejected by al Nadim.[9] Joining al

After the Abbasids took power, Jabir went back to Kufa. He began his career practicing
medicine, under the patronage of a Vizir (from the noble Persian family Barmakids) of Caliph
Harun al Rashid. His connections to the Barmakid cost him dearly in the end. When that family
fell from grace in 803, Jabir was placed under house arrest in Kufa, where he remained until his
death. It has been asserted that Jabir was a student of the sixth Imam Ja far al Sadiq and Harbi al
Himyari;[9][17] however, other scholars have questioned this theory.[18] The Jabirian corpus[edit]

nearly 3,000 treatises and articles are credited to Jabir ibn Hayyan.[19] Following the pioneering
work of Paul Kraus, who demonstrated that a corpus of some several hundred works ascribed to
JДЃbir were probably a medley from different hands,[11]:3[20] mostly dating to the late 9th and
early 10th centuries, many scholars believe that many of these works consist of commentaries and
additions by his followers,[citation needed] particularly of an Ismaili persuasion.[21] The scope of
the corpus is vast: cosmology, music, medicine, magic, biology, chemical technology, geometry,
grammar, metaphysics, logic, artificial generation of living beings, along with astrological
predictions, and symbolic ImГўmГ® myths.[11]:5 The 112 Books

The state of Oregon is known for many things, The Crater Lake National Park and the Columbia
River Gorge, to name a couple of big attractions. Oregon is also known for their AVA s, and the
Wine that comes out of all 17 AVA s within the state. The history behind the first groups of people
to start growing grapes in Oregon goes back farther than some would expect. Many people were
growing grapes and other kinds of fruit in Oregon long before the WineIndustry took over the area.
Williamette Valley in Oregon is the main producer of Wine and the most well known region, but

Regardless, Oregon is still a very successful state for growing wine. There are 18 AVA s, or
American Viticultural Area, in Oregon. The most popular one of them all is Williamette Valley,
located just south of Portland. Williamette Valley is also the largest AVA in the state of Oregon,
being around 5,200 Square Miles. Williamette Valley is notoriously linked to Pinot Noir because
of David Lett. Despite how popular Williamette Valley is, the valley has remained mostly small
scale, and attracts a different kind of wine maker. Within Williamette Valley, there are 6 AVA s
that associate themselves with the Valley, but their climate, location and soil type make it
noteworthy to know of these specific areas. One of these sub appellations is known as the
Dundee Hills. Just under 7,000 acres of land, this AVA has over 25 Wineries which have
produced over 44,000 cases of wine. This specific area is known for its Pinot Noir, where 7
wineries have won recognition from international wine experts. Another Oregon AVA is the
Applegate Valley located in Southern Oregon, and is a sub appellation of the Rogue Valley
AVA. Wine grapes were first planted in this Valley around the mid 1800s by a man named Peter
Britt (Fast Wine). Covering a total area of roughly 275,000 acres, The Applegate Valley AVA has

Parthenon Vs Pantheon Research Paper
The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in
Rome. There were two questions asked which were for us to consider how the style and function
(use) of each building serves as a typical example of its culture. And also How are the similarities
and differences between ancient Greeceand Rome seen in these two buildings? . The buildings
were built a few hundred years apart and while they do have differences they also have similarities.
One of the main similarities is that they are both ancient temples, one being built in Greece and the
other in Rome.
First I will discuss the a lot of the differences between these two structures. The Pantheon is
located in Rome Italy and was completed around 126AD. The purpose of this building was to
serve as a temple for the Gods in ancient Rome. It is currently in use as a Roman Catholic church,
so in essence it is still a house of worship. The architecture system is developed and based on
arches. It was built by Publius Aelius Hadranus. The building is a circular building and is
supported by Corinthian columns. The structure has a very large dome on top of it. The original
construction was by Marcus Agrippa in 27BC and was destroyed,, then the emperor Publis Aelius
Hadranus rebuilt it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Germination of Cress Seeds
Background point 1:
There are several conditions that affect the germination of seeds. Most factors are external but there
are also some internal conditions that affect the germination of seeds, even though this is quite rare.
The most common and the most important external conditions and factors that affect the germination
of seeds are oxygen, water, temperature and also in some cases light or darkness. Some plants
require several variables for successful seed germination. As this is quite rare, this often depends on
the individual seed and its natural habit.
Let s focus on the most important factors that affect germination of seeds.
Firstly we have oxygen which is required by the seed that is germinating for metabolism. The ...

Background point 2:
In the world, there are two basic sorts of seed and they have been named monocotyledon
respectively dicotyledon. Dicot seed contains of two parts which have been named cotyledons.
Their job is to supply the food for the growing of the young plant. An excellent example of a dicot
seed is the bean seed. Dicot seeds consist of an outside cover, called seed coat, and also an embryo
inside the bean. The Greek word for two is dis , and that is where we get di from.
Seed which consists of only a single cotyledon are known as monocots. A corn seed is a very good
example of a monocot. The seed of a monocot stays in one piece and does not split up. As the
bean seed, the corn seed also has a seed coat, but this coat doesn t get off as easily. There is as well
a part of the seed called the endosperm and this is the part where the monocot plants store their
food. The Greek word for one is monos , and that s where we get mono from.
Of course seeds consist of several components, but the three main and most significant parts are the
seed coat, the endosperm and the embryo.
The outer membrane of the seed is known as the seed coat and that is the part of the seed that is
visible. The coat of the seed is often hard and very difficult to break. The outer membrane s
function is to protect the sensitive parts that are inside the seed from diseases and common
damages. Even though all seeds have a seed coat, there is

The Red Guards Essay
HYPOTHESIS: The Red Guards were instrumental in carrying out Mao s ideologies within the
Cultural Revolution
In correlation to Stalin s Russia, Mao s China shadowed through the darkness of an intensive
economic crisis, generally referred to as, The great leap forward . The campaign lasted over a
decade despite the catastrophic events that made China and its economy go downhill. Although
Mao s efforts were too colossal to go unnoticed, the monstrosity of a decade lead Mao to slowly
fade in the background. Consequently, Zedong s acquaintances, Deng Xiaoping and Liu Shao chi,
rose to power to rectify the situation. Deng and Liu s attempts to restore China after the period of
the great leap forward may have been an optimistic road for the two officials. However, for Mao
Zedong, it was far from the ideologies he obtained from the very beginning. Mao s return in 1966
was merely to enforce his socialist principles, underpinning the Cultural Revolution.

Analysis Of Total Eclipse By Annie Dillard
Description Essay Total Eclipse By Annie Dillard
Annie Dillard s Total Eclipse depicts her own existential crisis while watching the 1979 solar
eclipse. Using metaphors and Stream of Consciousness Writing she details her own dissociative
hallucination.
She begins her work by describing her morning, comparing it to an avalanche, It had been like
dying, She wrote. that sliding down the mountain pass. It had been like the death of someone,
irrational, that sliding down the mountain pass and into the region of dread. IT was like slipping
into fever, or falling down that hole in sleep from which you wake yourself whimpering. Setting the
tone for the essay, death and irrational thoughts filling her mind as it unfolds around her. She
compares the avalanche to death, foreshadowing her own avalanche, an avalanche of the mind. Her
own avalanche happens while she is standing outside on a mountain, watching the eclipse with her
husband. She slips into a dissociative delusion, writing, I looked at Gary; He was in the film.

The Tasman Glacier And Its Impact On The World
Introduction
The Tasman glacier is located in the heart of the Southern Alps, in the South Island of New
Zealand. Tasman Glacier is New Zealand s biggest glacier and therefore is an attraction. however,
the Glacier has been retreating due to a number of processes which are operating. The retreat is
evident in the years between 2000 2006, for example the Glacier had retreated at approximately 54
metres per year (Robert C. Dykes, Brook, Winkler, 2010). The aim of this research was to gain an
understanding as to why and how the Tasman Glacieris retreating, in relation to the processes that
are operating in the environment. The use of a range of aerial images and the aid of a stereoscope
helped to achieve the aim, by allowing a close examination of the area, and giving a visual
representation. Consequently, this allowed for the natural landform features to be identified and
provide evidence as to why and how the Glacier is retreating. The importance of understanding the
changing Glacier is paramount. This is because constant retreat can affect the surrounding
landscape, for example if the Tasman Glacier continues to retreat it could lead to more ice melt
will fill the Tasman Lake. Thus, resulting in a lake rise. Therefore, if we understand how and why
the glacier is changing, measures can be taken to help prevent further, extreme retreat. Methods
To obtain results to be able to identify changes to the Tasman Glacier and process that may be

Essay on The Cultural Invasion of Kenya
The Cultural Invasion of Kenya
A screeching yell ripped through the house that Wednesday evening, Ahhhhh, we re being

Look, I whispered in disbelief. A few seconds of silence followed. There they were, the words I
never thought would appear on our 29 inch Sony screen: Sizzlin Hot Country . The appearance of
American country music on the Kenyan airwaves was the latest sign that American culture had

Pete was an example of a victim of the culture invasion. He would often be seen with his pants held
precariously at his hips only by a belt. Sagging soon caught on with many students and yet again,
I admit, with me. Sagging probably had its origins in the popular American hip hop that appears
on many local channels. While walking around in school, I would find students mimicking the
popular 2 Pac and Dr. Dre , with a Wesssaaid sounding in the air occasionally. A friend was also
nicknamed Krayzie Bone, after a member of the Bone Thugs N Harmony group. Baggy jeans
that could have fit two people at a time were also the order of the day at many parties and get

a popular article that during our school s annual Cultural Day, the only day when one could or
would show off one s cultural attire, they were banned.
School dances and parties rarely featured traditional songs. Instead, American icons like Aaliyah, Dr
Dre and Britney Spears dominated the playlists. Roaming the grounds of my secondary school, I
would find a girl singing out What a girl wants, what a girl... in a desperate attempt to mimic pop
idol Christina Aguilera. For some reason, emulating American youthwas trendy. Rakim, another

The Railroad Boom Essay
The Railroad Boom
The main reason for the transcontinental railroads to be built was to bring the east and west
together. The building of these railroads caused huge economic growth throughout the United
States. The railroad created opportunities for everyone across the US.
Railroads were the first big business, the first magnet for the great financial markets, and the first
industry to develop a large scale management bureaucracy. The railroads opened the western half of
the nation to economic development, connected raw materials to factories and retailers, and in so
doing created an interconnected national market. At the same time the railroads were themselves

(Railroad Land Grants)
The building of the railroads:
During the 1870 s, railroad construction in the United States grew dramatically. Prior to 1871
only 45,000 miles of track had been laid. Between 1871 and 1900, another 170,000 miles were
added on to the United States increasing railroad system. A large portion of the growth can be
attributed to the building of the transcontinental railroads. In 1862, Congress passed the Pacific
Railway Act, which authorized the Union Pacific Railway Company and Central Pacific to
complete a railroad all the way to the Pacific Ocean. One company started on the West Coast and the
other one started on the East Coast. The first transcontinental railroad was completed on May 19,
1869. Both lines of the railroad met at Promontory Point Utah where a ceremonial golden spike
was driven with a silver plated hammer to commemorate the event. Soon after the completion of
the first transcontinental railroad, land grants were no longer public policy due to the fact that
many people began questioning giving away so much land to private companies. Between 1850
and 1870, over 129 million acres had been granted to about 80 railroad companies. The value of this
was more than half a billion dollars. Due to the land give away, many fortunes were made. Some
were made from sales of land that was left over because it was not used for the railroad and some of

At least three extreme sports stars have died in recent months in the U.S. If you let your kids

in extreme sports like snowboarding, skateboarding, BMX, Motocross,, Mountain Biking, and
Rock Climbing. Extreme sports can be caused by peer pressure and risky behavior. Also the
sports can be harmful and can lower self esteem. One of the main reasons kids participate in
extreme sports is peer pressure and risky behavior. If someone you know does an extreme sportand

more likely to get depressed and kids that are depressed are more likely to use drugs and get in

Appalachian Mountains And Appalachians
Appalachians
The Appalachian Mountains region is roughly 360,000 km squared, taking up about 3.6 percent of
Canada s land surface. This region locates itself on the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador,
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and a bit of Quebec, with Moncton and Halifax as some of its major
cities. The rocks, most of which are mostly sedimentary, were changed drastically when Europe and
North America collided, causing its geography to be uneven, with many jagged peaks. Forestry,
agriculture, fishing, tourism, coal mining, logging, and manufacturing are their main
industries.Their overall population lands at a bit more than 25 million. Some interesting facts are
that they have the oldest mountains and the richest fishing.
Canadian Shield Despite covering 5 million km squared of land (over 50 percent) it does not have
ideal soil for crops while having the richest area for mining. The Canadian Shield occupies most of
Quebec, much of Ontario, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories and a small
portion of Alberta. Some of the jobs in this area of only 7 million are lumbering, mining, and
manufacturing. Their land contains mostly igneous and metamorphic rock plus many minerals
(gold, nickel, lead, copper, zinc,). When the tectonic plates collided the mountains, later eroded to
flatland or rounded hills. Its geography also contains rivers and lakes from glaciers. Some of their
largest cities are Montreal and Kugluktuk.

How the Use of Computerized Management Systems to Record...
Explain how the use of computerized management systems to record administrative data can
increase quality of care in a given situation.
Having a single view of the patient and their treatment and recovery plan is invaluable in
ascertaining which are the most and least effective tactics in treatment. The 360 degree view of the
patient and the many processes supporting them is crucial for increasing the accuracy, effectiveness
and performance of treatment programs over time (Blakeman, 1985). Computerized management

Essay on The Importance of Freedom
The Importance of Freedom Many of us take freedom for granted. Many of us tend to forget the
hardships and sacrifices our forefathers of freedom went through. Many of us fail to cherish and
value our granted freedom. Many of us do not apprehend the full meaning of freedom. However,
a few among the society realize the value of such a bestowment. Our Freedom today exists as of the
actions of those who believed that it was a necessity to live by and disallowing it is a relic of days
more barbarous than ours.
But those mere sentences will never illustrate to us the hardships and rigorous tasks undertaken to
give us our freedom. At a time many of our forefathers took up arms ... Show more content on

Yet a year after these horrible events countless innocent Iraqi civilians are thrown in jails. Yet a

Many Iraqis support the militants causes because they deem foreigners to be as faceless and

The Collapse Of A Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
In 2008 the world faced the worst financial crisis since the great depression. Many banks closed
their doors for good that year. Among them were both small and large banks. One specific bank
that collapsed that year was IndyMac, one of the largest banks in the United States. IndyMac
marked the largest collapse of a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation(FDIC) insured institution
since 1984, when Continental Illinois, which had $40 billion in assets, failed, according to
FDIC records ( The Fall of IndyMac 2008). This paper will talk about the cause of the collapse of
IndyMac in 2008, the handling of the issues, as well as the aftermath of the collapse. IndyMac
opened its doors in 1985 but was originally called Countrywide MortgageInvestment created by
David Loeb and Angelo Mozilo. It was built to collect Countrywide Financial loans that were too
large to be sold to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. IndyMac Bank was the largest savings and loan
association in the Los Angeles area and the seventh largest mortgage originator in the United
States ( Too Good to Be True: The Fall of IndyMac , 2008). In 1999, IndyMac loaned out record
amounts. In the first quarter alone IndyMac loaned out $1.6 billion. In July of 2000, IndyMac
became IndyMac Bank when it acquired SGV Bancorp. The total purchase cost was $62.5 million

Emma Goldman s Critique Of Anarchism
Emma Goldman explains that Anarchism has been subjected to much hearsay and false
interpretation, and that it is most often criticized with being impractical. This is the critique that I
most often hear and rely upon myself, but she maintains that it is deeply practical in that it, more
than any other idea, is helping to do away with the wrong and foolish (55). Anarchismhas been
mischaracterized as being synonymous with chaos and destruction, but in truth it at the very least
deserves to be examined as a legitimate political alternative. Her critiques of capitalismare
strikingly relevant, as she focuses on the exploitation of the individual within a capitalist system
as a mere particle of a machine, with less will and decision than his master of steel and iron (60).
Her ideas on crime are also still relevant, as economic oppression is often associated with crime
(121). Obviously, her allusions to an industrial capitalist system are somewhat outdated, but I
would argue that they can still be applied to a service economy. Though most people in the
United States no longer work in industrial manufacturing, service jobs can still exploit and control
the wills of individuals. Though workers may no longer be alienated from the material products
of their labor, it is entirely possible that within a service economy workers can become alienated
from their own emotions, as it is often their job to serve the emotional needs of others (think, for
example, of a store clerk

the new type of separation between the Yang s. The topic of distance is constantly brought up in

The Priestly Line Of Malki Tzedek
About the Priestly Line of Malki Tzedek for those that want to learn more.
In Numbers 18 the Most High says, speaking about the priesthood, that it is an eternal covenant
with Aaron and the Levites that these are the duties that he and they have. What s clear here is no
one from the Davidic line in the tribe of Judah could ever bring an incense offering into mikdash
ha kodesh(the holy of holies) in the Temple Lev 16:12 13. There can never be a high priestfrom the
house of David. The priesthood belongs to Aaron, his sons and the Levites forever.

forever David is told, a Kohane, one who has been given an important office. David s children are
called priests, Kohane, that does not mean they are of the lineage of Aaron and will officiate in the
Temple performing priestly duties. It means David s sons hold important offices.
Numbers 18:19 All the gifts of the Kodesh things[offerings], which the children of Israel offer unto
YHWH, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, as an eternal portion; it is an
everlasting covenant of salt before YHWH unto thee and to thy seed with thee.
The Most High says the Priesthood belongs to Aaron and his descendants forever, a salt covenant.
These are eternal covenants, they can not be broken, in fact, the Most High calls it a salt
covenant. Why a salt covenant? Because salt never spoils, it never degrades. Not only doesn t it
degrade but it preserves food, it never changes. The covenant is as permanent as salt. So if someone

compassion is thrown away at the first sight of difference. Between the two supernatural beings in
Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings , one gets more kindness and awe from
the ordinary people because of her humanorigins; while the other supernaturalbeing, an old man

Entropy Research Paper
Entropy and Energy Density in A Finite and Infinite Dimensional Universe
Entropy, or disorder, is increasing in the universe and aims to do so until it reaches its maximum
limit or capacity [1]. Energy density, on the other hand, is the amount of energy stored per a given
volume of space [2]. While the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant [3], energy
density decreases as the universe continues to expand.
In an infinite dimensional universe, meaning the universe will continue to expand indefinitely in all
directions, entropy will continue to increase until it eventually reaches its maximum. When this
happens, all energy would have been transformed into the same type of energy and dispersed
equally throughout the whole universe. This would happen because if entropy has reached its
maximum limit, then everything would have already been disordered to its maximum limit. At this
point, the whole universe would then be in equilibrium: the Heat Death of the Universe [4].
Another possible outcome is that, as the universe is expanding indefinitely, then entropy will also
increase indefinitely and will not be able to reach its maximum limit.
On the other hand, in a finite dimensional universe, meaning the universe will continue to expand
only until a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evidence Based Practice Examples
In order for Evidenced based practice (EBP) to be successfully adopted and maintained, nurses
and other healthcare professionals realize that it has to be adopted by individual providers,
microsystems and system leaders, as well as policy makers. Federal, state, local, and other
regulatory bodies are necessary for EBP adoption. An example of this is the mark of excellence in
nursing used by the Magnet Recognition Program (Stevens, 2013). The development of evidenced
based practice is fueled by the increasing public and professional demand for accountability in
safety and quality improvement in healthcare (Stevens, 2013). An example of federal program that
has emerged because of EBP is Congress funding the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute

Symbiotic Relationship Lab Report
Parasitic or Mutual Symbiotic Relationship?
Author: Natasha Patel. Lab Partner: Ariana Crolene. Mira Costa College 3333 Manchester Ave
Cardiff, CA 92007.
Abstract:
Our experiment is designed to show the symbiotic relationship between the mycorrhizal fungus and
spinach plant. We constructed a 2X2 table of live molasses and controlled groups. Our hypothesis
is that the live molasses with mycorrhizae group will extend the plants root bodies and increase the
total surface area of the plant. That being said, the fungus and the plant will have a symbiotic
mutual relationship towards each other. Our predictions came out to be false. The controlled groups
had a higher average in shoot length and wet mass, which indicates that the plant and fungus have a
parasitic relationship towards each other.
Introduction: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mycorrhizae benefited from the sugars but the plant did not benefit from the mycorrhizae,
which caused them to not extend their root bodies. The controlled groups had higher averages
than the lived averages. Also, the class averages were similar to our data as well. For future
experiments, the plants with mycorrhizae should be given more molasses, which will allow us to
detect if the plant and fungus have a symbiotic relationship or not. There have been many studies
that provide mycorrhizae aiding plants for nutrients, proper growth, and survival. However, there
are experiments that will show outliers and proving that not all studies are correct, which basically
demonstrates the field of biology. In biology, we constantly perform numerous experiments to
validate our hypothesis. But, there are exceptions when our hypothesis comes out to be false,
which always gives us room to modify our errors. Thus, biology is a never ending field and is

What I Want With My Life
Growing up in Miami I have gotten accustomed to the cold and impersonal interactions attributed
to living in a big city. Although I enjoy all of the opportunities that are presented by metropolitan
areas, it disheartens me to know that most people in urban settings do not know their neighbors.
Via avian perspective, you can see the large scale segregation of classes and ethnic groups. Little
Havana, Little Haiti, and Little Puerto Rico are just some examples of the neighborhoods I have
called home. As a multiracial child, I found it difficult to fit in when the typical icebreaker
question was Where are you from? Me? I would ask. Knowing there was a narrow range of
accepted responses I replied, I am from here from Earth... but more importantly, where am I going?
It seems a natural human characteristic to assign greater importance to our past experiences than to
our aspirations for the future. In order to achieve what I want with my life I know that I must not
dwell on the past but focus on the future.
It is human nature to question our reality in an attempt to better understand our surroundings.
Science, for me, is the devotion to better understand the world we live in, rooted in the natural and
inevitable questions that all humans ask themselves. I believe that by answering the most
fundamental questions, the potential technological advancements are much greater than that
generated by applied engineering. Nowadays we can thank Einstein s theory of relativity for

Historical And Textual Data Of The Mesopotamian Religion
The Mesopotamian religion has not a large amount of information uncovered. There are both
archaeological and textual data that has been found on religious beliefs of the early Sumerian
civilization survive. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with
buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image
of the deityright in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but
the later new temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a
ziggurat. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers,
descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always
associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest
attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for
assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule,
that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or moral topics as death, survival, and contact
with the divine. The discovered mythological literature is difficult for present day readers to
understand and the extent to which such myths reflect early religious beliefs is unknown. In its
beginning, Mesopotamian religionexpressed harmony between humanity and the natural powers on
which it depended on survival. The Sumerians have

Taking a Look at Sports Psychology
Don t think of a pink elephant. Come on don t let the picture creep into your mind. Stop thinking of
that... Pink Elephant (Gardner). It has been proven that putting a don t or a not into a statement can
cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell
themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team
score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into
the net, and then they do just that. Sometimes they tell themselves to do something, and that athlete
might end up doing the unthinkable. With three seconds left in the game, a basketball player might
take the three point shot and win the game, even though they have never been able to make that
shot before. These types of scenario tend to happen all the time. Psychology, or the mental game in
sports, is so important it can completely change the outcome of the game.
Sports Psychology has become more and more influential in understanding how to play the game.
Serious athletes are now training their mind just as much as they train their body. They have found
that to be a champion, it now takes more than just being fit and having talent. As the pressure to
succeed continues to increase, athletes continually add both physical and emotional stress to their

how to do longdivision. I have been lucky enough that all of the above things I have had to
opportunity to do. Well. I am still in the process of business school and I might not say that I
loooove it. It is pretty great though, you know, for university. And now my next thought. My next
break through. I only found out about this idea 24 hours ago and I have been completely consumed
with it for that entire time.
In school we must complete co ops; a great chance to try out careers to get some experience
under your belt and they are paid. So it is exam time now which means procrastination is at an
all time high. Lately when I procrastinate I look up potential careers for myself. It helps to
motivate me, seeing a career that I would love to do that a business degree would be necessary
for. It promotes the mindset that maybe I am doing the right thing spending ten thousand dollars
a year on stress and books. I have a major travel bug and a huge passion for global volunteering so I
always end up on their sites looking for positions. Let me tell you how much I wish I wanted to go
into finance. It

Hank Williams Influence On American Music
Despite Hank Williams rough childhood and spina bifida, he made a lasting impression on
American music and is still inspirational to young musicians.
Hiram Hank King Williams is his original name given to him by his parents on September 17,
1923. Hank s parents made homestead in Mount Olive, Alabama in Butler county, his parents were
Lon Williams a locomotive engineer and Lillie Williams a church organists. Lon and Lillie
divorced early in Hank s childhood. He never spent time with his dad after that, he spent most of his
childhood between Georgiana and Greenville, Alabama by his mother. The reason they traveled to
two places when he was living with his mom was because they would always go visit Lilies side of
the family in Alabama to help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hank kept his interest in music throughout his whole childhood and began performing in
Montgomery, Alabamas main radio station WSFA radio. He remained there from 1937 to 1942.
While he was performing on the radio station a street singer and a good friend of Hank Williams
Rufus Tee Tot Payne an African Americaninfluenced his sound and helping him with his guitar
playing skills. Once Hank picked up the style that Rufus was doing he made it famous and this is
the first time that the honky tonk type of style of music was created. While Hank was performing
on the radio station he attracted some kids that lived nearby that knew how to play some other
instruments. They called themselves the Drifting Cowboys, while Hank was singing and playing
guitar in this band his singing voice was as strong as an artists today because since he did have
any amplification he had to sing above all of the instruments and this is where he mastered his
singing and yodeling without losing control of

The World s Wife By. Duffy
As suggested by the title of the anthology, Duffy s poems within The World s Wife place the
focus on women in an inherently patriarchal and male dominated world. This is also true of Mrs
Beast , in which Duffy reimagines the traditional fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast to give
Mrs Beast dominance over her husband, as well as financial and emotional independence. The
opening lines of Mrs Beast set the tone for the rest of the poem, linking all of the characters
mentioned throughout The World s Wife , as well as listing many other women with stories that
would fit the themes of the sequence due to their exploitation by men. This acts as a warning to
men from Mrs Beast, who sees these women in herself, commenting: so when you... Show more

This inversion of the traditional roles in a fairytale is also present throughout the rest of the
stanza, as Mrs Beast describes herself as no longer a girl, knowing my own mind, / my own gold
stashed in the bank, / my own black horse at the gates , demonstrating that she is able to take
care of herself with no need for help. Moreover, her financial and emotional independence is
highlighted by the anaphora of my own , with repetition similar to this used by Duffy throughout
The World s Wife , particularly in Little Red Cap . However, the effect of the use of anaphora in
Mrs Beast contrasts with its effect in Little Red Cap at the beginning of the sequence, which
describes a girl progressing from innocence and naivety at childhood s end to saving herself and
becoming independent ten years later. Despite these differences, both poems similarly
reimagine fairytales, with Mrs Beast being what Little Red Cap could grow up to become with
her new found independence, as Mrs Beast demonstrates her ability to take care of herself and
be carried off at one wrong word, / one false move, one dirty look . In juxtaposition with this, the
Beast is presented as submissive and similar to a slave rather than as the traditional handsome
and arrogant prince of fairytales. He is treated and described as an animal instead of a person,
falling to his knees at the door for Mrs Beast and kiss(ing) her glove with his mongrel lips ,
reflecting his

Vaccination And Herd Immunity
Vaccination and Herd Immunity: Personal and Public Health When I was younger, I always
dreaded going for a checkup at the doctor s office. Waiting around was boring and procedures
were tedious. The worst part for me, however, was always getting shots. The needle scared me
and the shot hurt. As a little kid, I didn t understand why I had to get shots, and why I had to
keep getting them year after year. I had no idea how important those shots were, and would
continue to be. When I walked out of the doctor s office after an appointment I left with more than
a sore arm and a sticker. I walked away with a stronger immune systemand a healthier future.
The immune system is an important and complex part of the human body, guarding it against

As a politician, he has a demographic that he has to please in order to stay in office and continue
his career. A defining feature of the Republican platform is the reduction of the federal
government. As he shows in the rest of his article, that includes federal regulation of vaccines. His
use of fear continues as he warns the audience that, by letting the government mandate vaccines,
we are heading towards total loss of bodily autonomy. To speak out against government
regulations of vaccines, Ron Paul attacks vaccines themselves. He is fear mongering in order to
fulfill a political agenda. This is the kind of political backlash Omer Saad discusses in his New
York Times Op Ed. He credits the backlash against vaccine regulation to intemperate comments by
politicians, [which causes] some Americans [to] continue to view vaccines as an intrusion on their
personal liberty rather than as a matter of public health. (Omer) Omer s solution is to create
mandated education on vaccinations. This way people know the risks of not vaccinating and
removing their children from the immunized herd.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay
Most often, people have an image in their mind when they think of detectives, whether the image
is a man in a trench coat holding a magnifying glass, a beloved childhood character like Nancy
Drew or the Hardy Boys, or the classic Victorian detective. While all of these may hold true, one
specific person comes to mind at the mention of a detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with
images of detectives come preconceived ideas of what a detective or mystery novel should be or
what it should contain. Within the genre, numerous authors have stood out among the others and
set their own standard for these works of literature. In The Hound of the Baskervillesby Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle, Doyle employs juxtaposed settings, descriptive imagery, and the symbolism that each
convey to establish an immense attention to detail which maximizes the effectiveness of his
writing in the genre of detection in this classic Sherlock Holmes story.
Throughout the novel, Doyle sets up an immense contrast between the settings of the story which
acts as a guide to clearly distinguish between the locations and give insight into their symbolism.
In The Hound of the Baskervilles there are two distinct locations in which the story takes place,
London and Dartmoor. London is where the story begins, where Sherlock and Watson are first
introduced to the case, and where things first start to seem peculiar. Though these first events that
set up the mystery of the novel take place in London, London is a symbol of

  • 2. Childhood And Going Into Adult Hood Attachment is defined as affection, fondness or sympathy for someone or something. There have been different researchers and various types of research that has been done over the years to try and uncover the mystery that what happens in the first few years of your life will determine what happens in the later stages on childhood and going into adult hood. Research into the subject of insecure attachment sparked an interest in the world of psychology in 1948 with the research John Bowlby did on maternal attachment. Bowlby interviewed 44 juvenile thieves who were in a protection programme and 44 other juvenile who have not yet committed any crime to act as the control group what he did next was brought all the parents and interviewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, although that the majority went to prove what he was testing it is not 100% true as there was 14% who were not separated and still went on to commit crime, this leads to other theory s getting created. Another psychologist who has had major input in the subject of attachment is Spitz and Wolf (1946). Spitz and Wolf (1946) studied 91 orphanage infants in USA and Canada (3) , what they found amazed the world of attachment. They found that despite getting better care and maintaining adequate health many had died before their first birthday. This and Bowlby s research lends a hand in understanding attachment and both complement each other in facts. Seen as Bowlby was researching about the critical stage in development the research that Spitz and Wolf did also proves that. This is because both of the infants were apart from a proper caregiver during this stage and this effected their later development unfortunately for a third of Spitz and wolfs participants the latter development never happened. There is an issue with both of these studies and it is in the time of which they were doing their research. In the Mid 1940 s Men were coming back from the war and at that time the women were in the roles men were previously. Therefore there was urgency to have a reason for the mothers ... • 3. The Banking Concept Of Education In the excerpt from The Banking Concept of Education the author, Paulo Freire explains the critical flaw in the current education system. He continues by offering his believed solution to this problem. The two concepts Freire discusses in this excerpt are the banking concept of education and the problem posing method of education. The banking concept is talked about rather negatively, whereas the problem posing method is talked about highly. Freire believes in the problem posing method and that students should have free will to a certain extent in the classroom with less authoritative power from the teacher during discussions. This flawed concept in education today is the oppressive depositing of information (banking education) by teachers to students. Banking education (for obvious reasons) attempts, by mythicizing reality, to conceal certain facts which explain the way people exist in the world... (p.224) The banking concept is an act that hinders the intellectual growth of students by turning them into receptors and collectors of information that have no true connection to their lives. The banking concept is essentially turning humans into objects. Banking education inhibits creativity and domesticates (although it cannot completely destroy) the intentionality of consciousness by isolating consciousness from the world, thereby denying people their ontological and historical vocation of becoming more fully human. (p.224) This type of education ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantages Of Fiber Optic Biosensors PH4604 Topics in Applied Physics: Bioimaging and Sensing Chin Zong Yang U1340544E Fiber Optic Biosensors Abstract: This paper studies the clinical use of fiber optic biosensors, its advantages over traditional means of detection and limitations of this new technology. An in depth study of its history, how the technology works, and comparisons with older methods of bio sensing will also be made. Introduction: A biosensor is a device or method that allows a certain specific biological material to be detected. Common forms of detection are Fluorescence techniques, Raman Scattering, Plasmon Resonance, Near infrared Spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. These detection methods each have distinct advantages and disadvantages, and can adapt to a variety of different applications for different situations. However, traditional methods of biosensing usually requires the molecule to be labeled with an analyte, which must be chemically bound the molecule that is to be detected, making such methods slow, cumbersome and sometimes even toxic to the body.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Besides being used in biosensing, fiber optics has been used in various telecommunication and high speed networks around the world, replacing or supplementing traditional copper wires. This is due to the rapid advancement of relatively new technologies from fiber optics: the laser and the low cost of fiber optics production. Fiber optic biosensors also have excellent light permeability, easy and cheap to manufacture, able to illuminate the target with light and also able to transmit the light that is emitted by the target after ... • 5. Technology In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a product of the era of its conception. Originally published in 1818, the novel found itself released at the height of the Industrial Revolution. During this tumultuous time period, many nations and peoples found themselves witnesses the dawn of a new era and a new way of life. Industrialization brought with it the possibility and promise of a simplified and more efficient way of living. But with such bold potentialities came the fear of going forth into the unknown. Shelley s Frankensteinis a response to the new technological advances seen in her life and is a cautionary tale about boldly going in the new industrious age. In the world we live in we see many examples of human s working towards combating the limited existence we have on this Earth. The field of medicine has greatly benefited the quality and longevity of human life. In this way, the facet of Frankenstein s pursuit for circumventing death is present in today s world as we are seeing people being able to live longer and healthier lives thanks to advances in medicine and the medical field. But Shelley did not create Frankenstein as a character entrenched in the search of a longer life, but rather to be able to hold the reins of existence and to create life itself. Shelley is clear with her stance on the idea of mankind attempting to supersede a creator and become creators of life themselves. Frankenstein is seen as being greatly affected by his creation and the very nature of his actions. After the creation of his monster, Frankenstein is stricken with illness: I passed the night wretchedly. Sometimes my pulse beat so quickly and hardly that I felt the palpitation of every artery; at others, I nearly sank to the ground through languor and extreme weakness (Shelley p. 36). This is Shelley presenting the idea that should a person perform such an act as to create an abomination of life that they would be going against such an innate tendency of humans. And in doing so, their own body would react to such aberration that they would be wracked with physical torment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Carson, Illinois At The World s Busiest Corner Between... Carson, Pirie Scott Building (1899 1904) is also known as Schlesinger Mayer Store which is located in Chicago, Illinois at The World s Busiest Corner between State and Madison Street. This building was designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler for the retail firm Schlesinger and Mayer in 1899. Carson, Pirie Scott Building is quite unusual building compared to other buildings as it continuously developed overtime (Fig 1). Louis Sullivan considered Schlesinger and Mayer s aspect, giving the new presence and atmosphere to the store among its neighbours along State Street , of the building that lead him to design rounded corner entrance according to the site. The Building is surrounded by the buildings but it stands out definitely. And also, the relation to the other buildings brings the contrasting atmosphere due to its difference and ornamented exterior. There is three possible entrances to the building (The main grand entrance and two of the entrances to the office in each side of the street.) And also How are the similarities and differences between ancient Greeceand Rome seen in these two buildings? . The buildings were built a few hundred years apart and while they do have differences they also have similarities. One of the main similarities is that they are both ancient temples, one being built in Greece and the other in Rome. First I will discuss the a lot of the differences between these two structures. Dicot seed contains of two parts which have been named cotyledons. Their job is to supply the food for the growing of the young plant. An excellent example of a dicot seed is the bean seed. Dicot seeds consist of an outside cover, called seed coat, and also an embryo inside the bean. The Greek word for two is dis , and that is where we get di from. Seed which consists of only a single cotyledon are known as monocots. A corn seed is a very good example of a monocot. The seed of a monocot stays in one piece and does not split up. As the bean seed, the corn seed also has a seed coat, but this coat doesn t get off as easily. There is as well a part of the seed called the endosperm and this is the part where the monocot plants store their food. The Greek word for one is monos , and that s where we get mono from. Of course seeds consist of several components, but the three main and most significant parts are the seed coat, the endosperm and the embryo. Tasman Glacier is New Zealand s biggest glacier and therefore is an attraction. however, the Glacier has been retreating due to a number of processes which are operating. The retreat is evident in the years between 2000 2006, for example the Glacier had retreated at approximately 54 metres per year (Robert C. Dykes, Brook, Winkler, 2010). The aim of this research was to gain an understanding as to why and how the Tasman Glacieris retreating, in relation to the processes that are operating in the environment. The use of a range of aerial images and the aid of a stereoscope helped to achieve the aim, by allowing a close examination of the area, and giving a visual representation. Consequently, this allowed for the natural landform features to be identified and provide evidence as to why and how the Glacier is retreating. The importance of understanding the changing Glacier is paramount. This is because constant retreat can affect the surrounding landscape, for example if the Tasman Glacier continues to retreat it could lead to more ice melt will fill the Tasman Lake. Thus, resulting in a lake rise. Therefore, if we understand how and why the glacier is changing, measures can be taken to help prevent further, extreme retreat. • 27. Emma Goldman s Critique Of Anarchism Emma Goldman explains that Anarchism has been subjected to much hearsay and false interpretation, and that it is most often criticized with being impractical. This is the critique that I most often hear and rely upon myself, but she maintains that it is deeply practical in that it, more than any other idea, is helping to do away with the wrong and foolish (55). Anarchismhas been mischaracterized as being synonymous with chaos and destruction, but in truth it at the very least deserves to be examined as a legitimate political alternative. Her critiques of capitalismare strikingly relevant, as she focuses on the exploitation of the individual within a capitalist system as a mere particle of a machine, with less will and decision than his master of steel and iron (60). Her ideas on crime are also still relevant, as economic oppression is often associated with crime (121). Obviously, her allusions to an industrial capitalist system are somewhat outdated, but I would argue that they can still be applied to a service economy. Though most people in the United States no longer work in industrial manufacturing, service jobs can still exploit and control the wills of individuals. Though workers may no longer be alienated from the material products of their labor, it is entirely possible that within a service economy workers can become alienated from their own emotions, as it is often their job to serve the emotional needs of others (think, for example, of a store clerk ... • 32. Entropy Research Paper Entropy and Energy Density in A Finite and Infinite Dimensional Universe Entropy, or disorder, is increasing in the universe and aims to do so until it reaches its maximum limit or capacity [1]. Energy density, on the other hand, is the amount of energy stored per a given volume of space [2]. While the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant [3], energy density decreases as the universe continues to expand. In an infinite dimensional universe, meaning the universe will continue to expand indefinitely in all directions, entropy will continue to increase until it eventually reaches its maximum. When this happens, all energy would have been transformed into the same type of energy and dispersed equally throughout the whole universe. This would happen because if entropy has reached its maximum limit, then everything would have already been disordered to its maximum limit. At this point, the whole universe would then be in equilibrium: the Heat Death of the Universe [4]. Another possible outcome is that, as the universe is expanding indefinitely, then entropy will also increase indefinitely and will not be able to reach its maximum limit. Abstract: Our experiment is designed to show the symbiotic relationship between the mycorrhizal fungus and spinach plant. We constructed a 2X2 table of live molasses and controlled groups. Our hypothesis is that the live molasses with mycorrhizae group will extend the plants root bodies and increase the total surface area of the plant. That being said, the fungus and the plant will have a symbiotic mutual relationship towards each other. Our predictions came out to be false. The controlled groups had a higher average in shoot length and wet mass, which indicates that the plant and fungus have a parasitic relationship towards each other. Introduction: ... The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image of the deityright in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but the later new temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a ziggurat. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers, descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule, that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or moral topics as death, survival, and contact with the divine. This is also true of Mrs Beast , in which Duffy reimagines the traditional fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast to give Mrs Beast dominance over her husband, as well as financial and emotional independence. The opening lines of Mrs Beast set the tone for the rest of the poem, linking all of the characters mentioned throughout The World s Wife , as well as listing many other women with stories that would fit the themes of the sequence due to their exploitation by men. Moreover, her financial and emotional independence is highlighted by the anaphora of my own , with repetition similar to this used by Duffy throughout The World s Wife , particularly in Little Red Cap . However, the effect of the use of anaphora in Mrs Beast contrasts with its effect in Little Red Cap at the beginning of the sequence, which describes a girl progressing from innocence and naivety at childhood s end to saving herself and becoming independent ten years later. The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay Most often, people have an image in their mind when they think of detectives, whether the image is a man in a trench coat holding a magnifying glass, a beloved childhood character like Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys, or the classic Victorian detective. While all of these may hold true, one specific person comes to mind at the mention of a detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Along with images of detectives come preconceived ideas of what a detective or mystery novel should be or what it should contain. Within the genre, numerous authors have stood out among the others and set their own standard for these works of literature. In The Hound of the Baskervillesby Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Doyle employs juxtaposed settings, descriptive imagery, and the symbolism that each convey to establish an immense attention to detail which maximizes the effectiveness of his writing in the genre of detection in this classic Sherlock Holmes story. Throughout the novel, Doyle sets up an immense contrast between the settings of the story which acts as a guide to clearly distinguish between the locations and give insight into their symbolism. In The Hound of the Baskervilles there are two distinct locations in which the story takes place, London and Dartmoor.
