Essay On A Hero
Crafting an essay on the concept of a hero can be a challenging endeavor, as the term "hero" is
subjective and can be interpreted in various ways. The difficulty lies not only in defining what
constitutes a hero but also in navigating the intricate nuances of heroism across different cultures,
historical periods, and personal perspectives.
To begin with, one must delve into the rich tapestry of literature, mythology, and history to
unravel the myriad archetypes of heroes that have emerged over time. This requires meticulous
research to understand the cultural, social, and historical contexts that shape the perception of
heroism. Moreover, the task becomes even more intricate when attempting to analyze
contemporary heroes, as societal values and expectations are continually evolving.
The challenge further intensifies when trying to balance the heroic qualities with the inevitable
flaws that make a character relatable and human. Striking the right chord between idealism and
realism is a delicate act, demanding a keen understanding of storytelling and character
development.
In addition, the writing process demands a coherent structure that seamlessly weaves together
diverse perspectives on heroism, presenting a comprehensive and engaging narrative. Juggling
the introduction, body, and conclusion while maintaining a coherent flow of ideas can be a
formidable task, especially when grappling with the intricate nature of the hero concept.
Furthermore, the essay should avoid superficiality and delve into the deeper philosophical and
ethical dimensions of heroism. Analyzing the motivations, sacrifices, and ethical dilemmas faced
by heroes adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of a hero requires a delicate balance of research,
analysis, and creativity. It demands an exploration of diverse cultural and historical contexts, a
nuanced understanding of human nature, and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and
compelling manner.
For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of such essays, various resources are
available. HelpWriting.net offers a platform where one can explore similar essays and access a
wealth of writing assistance to make the essay-writing journey a more manageable endeavor.

Chris Landreth Documentary
This review will critically analyze and evaluate, Ryan by Chris Landreth and Waltz
with Bashir by Ari Folman, and assess the role of the animated documentaries in the
film world. It will explore the truth and validity in animated documentaries and how
each of the films visually portray the key themes. I will argue that animations can be
valid documentaries, due to their focus on the subjective and unique ways to depict
emotion and mental responses.
Animation is derived from the latin word animare, meaning to give life to (Wells,
1998). Animation is therefore the representation of life, both real and imagined.
Animation can express more than just the physical world (Wells, 1999) therefore
making it a unique way to create a documentary. Animated... Show more content on

By using primary evidence to create the films, there is a suggested basis of truth.
Each of these films treat the interviews in different ways. Folman uses the
interviews to further his own story to evoke the memories he has repressed. In
contrast, Landreth uses them to reflect more directly on his own personal
experience. This is first seen in Waltz with Bashir through Folman s first epiphany
in which he has his first flashback to the war. Likewise this is first seen in Ryan
when Landreth asks Larking to give up alcohol. The montage of photos that follow
Larkin s angry outburst at this suggestion reveals that Landreth s mother also had
an alcohol addiction, which caused her death. A black substance covers the old
photos of Landreth s mother and increases to cover the photos as as she ages. At
this point, we gain greater insight into Landreth s personal contribution to the story
and how it has affected the production of the film. Landreth clearly relates his own
experience of the disease to Larkin s situation. This personal connection is also seen
at the end of the film when Larkin in seen begging on the street. Landreth appears
across the street, looking more abstracted like Larkin. This change in physical
appearance indicates a new understanding of himself which resulted from his meeting
with Larkin. Landreth believes that we don t see things as they are but we
Ecological Footprint In Canada
Introduction In order to preserve Canada s natural capital, it is imperative to improve
Canada s ecological footprint. A country s ecological footprint consists of that
country s impact on their environment via their use of resources2. Canada has a small
population which results in a much lower ecological footprint than countries with
bigger populations¬6. Canada s total ecological footprint is 224 global hectares
(gha)6. This is comparable to the United Stateswith a total ecological footprint of 2.3
billion gha, China with 2.9 billion gha and India with 1.1 billion gha6. This does not
mean that Canada is better at preserving natural capital than these other countries6.
Canada s per capita ecological footprint is 6.4gha6. The University of... Show more

One of the largest contributors to a high ecological footprint is related to personal
transportation and the construction, maintenance and operations of buildings3. When
more people are living in an area, the amount of energy and transportation needed
decreases and so does the area s ecological footprint3. This occurs because as
walking increases, the amount of personal driving decreases.
Another way Vancouver is working to reduce its ecological footprint is by
protecting land in the Green Zone 7. About 60% of the region s land is protected7.
This includes agricultural land, watersheds, and natural and recreational areas7.
These Green Zones will limit access and help preserve the region s natural capital.
The David Suzuki Foundation proposed a South Coast Conservation Program in
order to conserve and restore at risk species and ecosystems on the British
Columbia South Coast 9. The projects main focus is to preserve ecosystems and
maintain biodiversity9. These are essential components in improving natural capital.
The Emily Carr University of Art in Design (ECUAD) in Vancouver joined forces
with The David Suzuki Foundation (DSF)10. Their goal was an to provide a natural

Tiberius Quaestor
Tiberius Claudius Nero was the second emperor of the Roman Empire, successor
of Augustus. Born the 16th of November 42 BC in the wonderful city of Rome.
Tiberius was the son of Tiberius Claudius Nero and Livia Drusilla. He was also the
brother of Nero Claudius Drusus. Tiberius was only four years old when his parents
got divorced, when his mother decided to marry Octavian and later to Augustus, who
became his adopted father. After adoption Augustus changed his news son s name to,
TiberiusJulius Caesar. He was also the grandchild of Julius Caesar. Tiberius created
a family of his own with his wife Vipsania Agrippina and had a son named Drusus
Julius Caesar. Tiberius also adopted his nephew, Germanicus, and raised him as his

When he was 17 years old, in 24 BC under the reign of Augustus, Tiberius was
appointed a quaestor. A quaestor is a public officer who takes care of financial
affairs. He always served as a prosecutor and successfully convicted Fannius Caepio
and Varro Murena for betraying the country. He always participated in other
administrations like inspecting slave barracks and regulating grain supply.
Tiberius s first military act consisted of him leading armed forces to Armenia
where he then crowded Tigranes as emperor. He always accompanied his new
adopted father Augustus to help free the standards from the Parthians. On his way
home from his trip with Augustus, was appointed as an army commander also
known as a praetor. His next mission was to be sent to Gaul and overcome the
people. Once he returned back to Rome in 19 BC he was presented the position of
consul. He then had to leave once again to fight battles over in Germany in 12 BC
where he captured roughly about 40,000 prisoners. Tiberius then relocated the
prisoners in Gaul. He returned again in 7 BC and served his position as the consul.
The following year he was granted the tribunician power . Still during the year of 6

Family Guy Character Analysis
Family Guy, an Analytical Review by Caleb Packard
I am not allowed to watch much TV. Therefore, I must be super selective about what
I watch. While I could waste a lot of time watching Duck Dynasty, when it comes to
choosing a show, Family Guy is my top selection. I think the popular cartoon comedy
Family Guy, written by Seth MacFarlane, is one of the best shows still running today.
Among currently running animated sitcoms, there are a few that have current
connections to people and events. Most famous of this genre of shows are South
Park and Family Guy. Unlike South Park, which follows a group of friends at
school, Family Guy is about a family. The Griffin family consists of parents Peter
and Lois, their children Chris, Meg, Stewie, and the family dog, Brian. Instead of
showcasing the adventures of an individual struggling to balance impulses and
responsibilities, Family Guy focuses on the dynamics created by family members
who are extreme in their personality traits and very different from each other. Peter,
the father, is impulsive, incompetent, and easily excitable. Lois is the stereotypical
responsible mother and wife. Meg is a classic case of a teenage girl struggling to fit
in at high school. Chris is your average awkward and immature teenage boy. Stewie,
the precocious baby, is by far the smartest and most cunning of the cast. Interestingly,
the screenwriters often drop hints that he is gay. He is eager to assume adult
responsibilities and motivated to have
Contracts Derivatives
Why do they call these contracts derivatives? Where is the optionality in these
contracts?
Weather derivatives structures commonly used are:
i) cap a call option; ii) Floor a put option; iii) Collar a put and a call option, usually
with little or no premium; iv) Swap a derivative with a profit and loss profile of a
futures contract
v) Digital option an option that pays either a predetermined amount if acertain
temperature or degree day level is reached, or nothing at all in other case.

They generated an idea of creating financial tools built around an index that was
familiar to every energy company, that of degree days. Unlike many other
financial products it was easy to create this index, because weather is
independently measured. As people have different opinions on which way the
weather index was going to go (warmer or colder) then a market was, in principle,
possible. At first insurance companies were unimpressed so Enron decided to act as
a risk capacity provider to start the market. In 1997, the first major deal took place
between three US energy companies, which created sufficient publicity to persuade
insurance companies into the market. The underlying issues about data and pricing
were also being resolved. In the UK, the first weather derivative deal was sold by
Enron to Scottish Hydropower who, at that time, 1998, were taking part in a
government pilot scheme for the privatization and deregulation of energy markets.

Stalling A Fighter Jet In The Navy
a fighter jet all this knowledge will come into your mind every time you go to fly
or fly your missions. When you are flying a fighter jet in the Navy there are certain
aspects that you should be aware of. For example fighter jets can stall or in other
words the engine could stop running. A stall occur at the angle of attack, at which
point the airflow over the wingbecomes chaotic and the wings can no longer produce
sufficient liftto counteract weight . As the airfoilapproaches the stalling speed, the
point of transition, or separation point, moves forward enough to exceed the design
factor of the wing. An airfoil is any surface used to help lift and control the airplane,
by creating or moving the air currents. The stalling angle is
How Many Patriots Were Loyalists
Loyalists vs. Patriots Believe it or not there were some colonists during the
American Revolution that supported British rule. Loyalists are what they were
called. They remained loyal to England and King George. However, there were also
two other groups along with the loyalists which include the patriots and the people
who were neutral. The few colonists that remained loyal to Great Britain, during the
American Revolution, were wrong in doing so, even though Britain had a nice, stable
government. If you were a loyalist you were hated by the patriots. The patriots were
people who wanted to gain independence from Britain. U.S.history.org states, Patriots
subjected loyalists to public humiliation and violence. Many loyalists found their
property vandalized, looted, and burned. This shows that the colonists who were
loyalists had a tough life during the American Revolution. So, it wasn t a smart
choice to become a loyalist during that time period.... Show more content on

One of the things they did was tax the colonists on things they didn t get to vote on
in parliament. NC Pedia states, Parliament did not have the right to take their
money by imposing taxes. No taxation without representation became their rallying
cry. This means that colonists didn t want to get taxed for something they didn t
have a say in. They know that taxes are needed to help run the country but, they
didn t get to help decide what should be taxed. Great Britain also made some unfair
laws. For example, they decided to make it legal that a British soldier come and
sleep in your home and you would have to feed them. So, as you can tell, the British
did some pretty unfair and cruel things so, who would want to be a part of
Public Key Infrastructure
Public key infrastructure, known as PKI supports the distribution and identification
of public encryption keys which allows users and computers to securely exchange
data over the internet and networks to confirm the identity of the other party. Without
PKI, sensitive information can still be encrypted and exchanged, but there would be
no assurance of the identity of the other party. Any form of sensitive data exchanged
over the Internet is reliant on PKI for security.
A standard PKI consists of several components: hardware, software, policies and
standards, administration, distribution of keys and digital certificates. Digital
certificates are at the heart of PKI as they confirm the identity of the certificate
subject and bind that identity to the public key contained in the certificate. A typical
PKI includes several key elements. A trusted party, known as a certificate authorityor
CA, acts as the root of trust and provides services that authenticate the identity of ...

The company can choose between using a public certification authority or operating

The in house approach provides the maximum level of control. Certificates and
keys can be made any time with little wait time. However, the cost of software
licenses, maintenance fees, and the expense to purchase and deploy the entire
supporting infrastructure can be big. Also add in training of a few employees or
hiring new ones with the needed skills. The cost will pay for its self eventually.
(Walder, Bob. July 2003)
Outsourcing the PKI service will allow for faster implementation. The initial cost is
low but will be continuous. There is no need for training or new employees.
Availability will be the key deciding component. Will the outsourced company be
available anytime? How long is the turnaround time when requesting a certificate?

PTSD is a mental health condition many soldiers who were involved in combat

veteran suicide. A Vietnam War veteran named Burk, stated those who have had
experience with applying for PTSD benefits application said you have to relive

(Belhaven, 2015). In other terms, leaders prepare and make sure that their followers
are ready to take on the tasks that they are to be presented with. The model has strong
purposes currently in fields such as athletic coaching and in the military. Coaches
work to prepare their athletes for competition by practicing and repeating techniques.
They also scout their opponents and then use the information found while scouting to
help prepare their their team for the upcoming opponent. In the military, numerous
tasks and tests are presented to members to make sure they are prepared for the
dealings they will have when they are on their own and in battle.
This leadership model has strong ties to the greatest leader of all, Jesus Christ.
Christ used this type of modeling when he prepared his apostles for their ministry
work in Matthew. Christ began by laying out the the mission, gave them authority
over unclean spirits, to cast them out and to cure every disease and every sickness.
(Matthew 10:15, New Revised Standard Version). He gave them that authority in
order to prepare them for the unclean cities and people they were to encounter. As
He continue to address these 12, Christ explained to them they were to proclaim the
good news, The kingdom of heaven has come near. (Matt. 10:7, NRSV). By
addressing the people of the cities to this news, the apostles would also use a form of
situational leadership by preparing the people for

vehicles with Firestone tyres. In the year 2001, the controversy broke out as there
were plenty of incidents happened as more than 220 people have been killed with
road accidents all over America involving Ford Explorer vehicles. There was a bit
of rivalry between Ford and General Motors and with this controversy it had
damaged the reputation of Ford which resulted in the loss of its market share and its
loyalty among customers. Both the companies were facing millions of dollars of
lawsuits from various costumers. This controversy brought an end to the 100 year

problem lies within the Ford Explorer standard and safety features rather than the

Diffusion And Osmosis Of Potato Cores
Diffusion and Osmosis in Potato Cores By Brittany Pangilinan Abstract Van t Hoff
s Law suggests that the osmotic potential of a cell is proportional to the
concentration of solute particles in a solution. The purpose of this experiment was
to determine if there are any differences between the osmolalities, the no weight
changes of osmolalities, and the water potentials of potato cores in different
solutions of different solutes. The percent weight change of the potato cores was
calculated through a change in weight method. The potato core s weight was
measured before and after they were put into different concentrations of a solute for
1.5 hours. In our experiment, there were no significant differences from the osmotic
potentials of our results and the osmotic potentials of other scientists work. Ending
with chi square values of 2.17 and 2.71, and p values of 0.256 and 0.337,
concluding that there is no difference in water potentials of potato cores in different
solutions of different solutes at varying concentrations. Introduction Water potential
is the measure of potential energy in water, or the difference in potential energy
between a water sample and pure water. According to Kosinski (2015), white
potatoes are an experimentally favorite subject for the determination of water

Aristotle Virtue
Virtues dictate all systems of human morality. Aristotle s interpretation of virtue is
found in Book II of the Nicomachean Ethics, the man who possesses character
excellence does the right thing, at the right time, and in the right way. While this
holds true, it leads to an ambiguous interpretation. Aristotleunderstood virtueas a set
of character traits that, once developed, will lead to an overall good character. Core
virtues such as respect, loyalty, and honesty make up the foundation of the virtue
theory of ethical thinking. By living an ethical life, a person must demonstrate moral
character traits. A virtuous person lives his life in a sweet spot called the golden
mean of the two extremes of excess and deficiency. Actions dictated... Show more

as the fuel gushed from the hole in the forward number five tank, the centre of

Hippies are the real activists of freedom who love each other in a positive way. The
word hippies generally invoke sterotypes that involves drugs, sex and bare feet.
Though it is true that many hippies did practice these sterotypes, they were people
who fought for rights and freedom without violence. They gave up the traditional
morals and values to promote new values that were about freedom of experssion and
loving each other. After getting the attention, they expressed their needs, hopes and

The second wave of feminism was the movement of the view of females in society

The Battle Of The Confederate Flag
Statement of pride or statement of hate? Many people have strong opinions when it
comes to the Confederate Flag; many others are not as educated as they think they
are on this topic. When it comes to what the civil war was really caused by, and
what the Flag really stands for, people tend to make up their own conclusions. There
is much about the Confederacy s side of the war that isn t taught in schools or
reported on the news. The Flags of the Confederacy are prominent figures in
American History. The Civil War was a time in American history when the nation was
divided. In 1860, the nation split into two sides, north and south. These two sides,
United Statesof America and Confederate States of America, went to war for four
years. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In March 1861 the first official flag of the CSA was established, the Stars and Bars
(Flags of the Confederacy). It had seven stars, one for each state: South Carolina,
Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. The stars were on a
blue field arranged in a circle. Similar to the union flag, it had two red bars and a
white bar. This flag, however, was not easily distinguished from the Union flag,
especially on the battlefield. The second national flag was created and put into
action in May 1863. This flag was easily mistaken for a white flag of surrender
especially when the air was calm and the flag hung limply. (Flags of the
Confederacy) This was an unfortunate design flaw on the Confederacy s part. It
was nicknamed the Stainless Banner because the flag was white with the battle
flag placed in the top left corner. This flag served from 1863 to 1865(Flags of the
Confederacy). It also included four more stars, for the states of Virginia,
Tennessee, Arkansas, and North Carolina. Missouri and Kentucky failed to secede
from the union, though they were still represented by a star. The third and final
national flag, the Bloodstained Banner as it was called, flew from March 1865
onward(Flags of the Confederacy). It was nearly a look alike to the second flag,
except that it had a red bar on the fly end. This simple change ended confusions with
the flag of surrender. Until the southern states rejoined the Union, this flag flew at the

Family Nurse Practitioner Interview Paper
For this assignment, I had the opportunity to interview Samantha Hage De Reyes,
family nurse practitioner, currently working at the University of California,
Riverside (UCR) Health Center in Riverside, CA. Family nurse practitioners are
described as health professionals with analytic skills for evaluating and providing
evidence based, patient centered care across settings, and advanced knowledge of the
healthcare delivery system (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy O Grady, 2014). My objective
was to ask a series of questions pertaining to the role of a family nurse practitioner,
challenges concerning this nursing role, opinions regarding the future of family nurse
practitioners, and more. This interview was conducted over the phone, and it was a
valuable opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a family nurse
practitioner and to start thinking about what I want to achieve in my own... Show

Samantha stated that initially many people asked her if she chose to be a family
nurse practitioner to be a mini physician (S. Hage De Reyes, personal
communication, June 22, 2016). In her perspective, it has been an issue to show
others in health care professions that nurses just want to expand their knowledge.
She fights battles every day for her patients because of the holes in our health care
system (S. Hage De Reyes, personal communication, June 22, 2016). In her
experience, she has seen many individuals without insurance. She has learned that
being a family nurse practitioner is being an advocate for the patient and helping
them get the resources that they need. Family nurse practitioners help provide care
in a more affordable way. In Samantha s opinion, family nurse practitioners are the
answer to creating access to care for the large uninsured population and those that are
newly insured under the Affordable Care Act, and I could not agree
Analysis Of Bilbo Baggins s The Hobbit
The word hero, might conjure an image of somebody dressed in shining armour
holding a sword and slaying the terrible dragon guarding a hoard of gold. In The
Hobbit, there is indeed a heinous dragon guarding a hoard of treasure, and a hero
who embarks on a journey to defeat the dragon and reclaim his stolen birthright.
However, there is not just one hero, but two: Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who plays the
role of the non traditional hero, and Thorin Oakenshield, a strong minded dwarf who
represents the traditional hero. By the end of the story, both characters have
established that they re capable of conquering obstacles and adversities with their
individual set of skills that they ve either acquired or already had: Bilbo with his...

His failure was a result of poor luck. It s stated on #41 that: ...at any rate, hobbits
can move quietly in woods, absolutely quietly. Furthermore, his stealth had roped
him and the Company out of dire situations. When the wood elves had taken the
Company hostage, it was Bilbo who snuck in and evaded the guards notice for
over a week (#203), and then freed the dwarves from the dungeon (#208). His small
stature and his ring of invisibility are all factors that contribute to Bilbo s stealth.
And of course, it is Bilbo s ability to lead that was one of his greatest assets. He was
not much of a leader at first, but as we delved deeper, we soon learned that he is
indeed worthy of being deemed a leader. There are two quotes that prove this, found
on page 204: ...and they [the dwarves] all trusted Bilbo. Just what Gandalf had said
would happen, you see. Perhaps that was part of his reason for going off and leaving,
and, ...Thorin had taken heart again hearing how the hobbit had rescued his
companions from the spider... Bilbo inspired Thorin to not give up, gained the trust
of the dwarves, earned their respect, and proved his abilities to the mentor, like a
true leader. The reason Tolkien had Bilbo developed these skills was to prepare him
for the supreme ordeal (Smaug), and his journey back. It was necessary for Tolkien
to carefully plan Bilbo s character development in order for him to realistically face
these obstacles. Despite his small size,
Iliad and Achilles Speech
In the modern world, people, as a society, have always given themselves a goal or
goals that they would like to attain at some point during their lifetime. Many people
seek to attain riches, love, happiness or high stature within society. When we
people set that goal, we tend to mold our lifestyles around it. As people work
throughout their lives to achieve this ultimate goal, it becomes apparent to others
what it is we are working so hard for. Just as this pattern is evident in modern
society, it can also be seen in the times of Homer, particularly in the great Greek epic,
the Iliad. This distinct pattern can be seen in Achilles, one of the most vital characters
in the story. Achilles, being the ultimate most powerful warrior of all... Show more

Hektor, the assassin of Patroklos. Achilles makes the decision to kill Hektor in
spite of the fact that his fate will be to die. Even though Achilles plans to attack
Hektor for vengeful purposes, he has an underlying motive. Because Achilles feels
he has failed his friend, he wants or needs to save face. This is in order to keep his
goal of ultimate glory within his grasp. Achilles sees the opportunity his been
waiting for all his life. By killing Hektor and then being slain himself, he achieves
his lofty goal of ultimate glory. It is evident through this passage that Homer is
building up this grand battle between two of the greatest warriors of this time

passage, Achilles in a sense forewarns everyone of his intentions,
Factors That V Leiden Thrombophilia
Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia Thrombophilia is a disorder that contains several
genetic components that can cause an individual to form arterial and venous
thrombi more readily. Many serious medical complications can result from
thrombus formations that are often times fatal. In fact, a venous thromboembolism
(VTE) is relatively common and a thrombosis of the deep veins of the legs or
pelvis can lead to morbidity and mortality. Small portions of this patient population
even develop pulmonary emboli (PE), which can be fatal. This major medical
problem affects 1 in 1,000 persons per year and approximately 1 in 130 Americans
younger than age 65 develop a VTE (Crow, 2003; Kujovich, 2011). Interestingly
enough, inherited thrombophilia can be identified in half of the patients presenting
with VTE (Kujovich, 2011). In 1993, European investigators Dahlback and his
colleagues recognized a new mechanism for familial thrombophilia. Their research
was initiated in order to investigate the cause for a number of young adults that
presented with VTE, who had a family history of thrombosis but no detectable
genetic link. As a result, a previously unrecognized mechanism associated with
activated protein C resistance (APCR) was found Factor V Leiden mutation (Crow,
2003). Factor V Leiden is considered the single most common cause of hereditary
thrombophilia and is often linked to thrombosis due to hereditary hypercoagulability.
Studies have indicated that factor V Leiden is a

Introduction
The commercial culture of salmonids is concentrated on three high value species:
Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), and rainbow
trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) (Asche and Bjorndal 2011). Early North American
commercial salmon culturists favoured coho salmon as a culture species due to
their rapid growth rate and hardiness (i.e. their capacity to survive under
unfavourable conditions), combined with the availability of a surplus of eggs from
pre existing government hatchery programs (Pennell and Barton 1996; Fairgrieve
2006). Today, global aquaculture production of coho salmon is dominated primarily
by Chile (producing 161,953 tonnes in 2012) and to a lesser extent Japan
(producing 9,728 tonnes in 2012) (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations [FAO] 2014). While Canada has been remained a minor producer within the
last decade, North American coho salmon production has been severely curtailed by
social and economics issues combined with a lack of suitable operation sites
(Fairgrieve 2006). In the wild, mature coho salmon return to their freshwater natal site
during late summer and autumn, and spawning occurs between November and
January (Fairgrieve 2006). Eggs are
Thomas Hobbes And John Locke s Political Theories Essay
Analyzing Thomas Hobbes and John Locke s Political Theories and Justifying if
these Governmental Officials Have Legitimate Reason To Hold Secrets from the
Public
Systems of government across the globe are utilized to various extents. Similarly to
John Locke s vision of government, the United States stands by a system of
representative democracy. This means that our government highly values that the
people of a society hold the power of where the direction of their state goes through
electing officials. In Locke s book, Two Treatises, he states that if a government
official extends their power in any way, other than to better citizens lives, then the
people have the right to replace those elected into power (77). However, Thomas
Hobbes, in The Leviathan, explains that it is human nature to always have self
interest in mind. Hobbes confirms that even though he is open to representative
democracy or having multiple officials lead as an assembly, due to human nature
getting in the way, having more than a single governmental official ruling the state
as a monarch is not ideal. Hillary Clinton, and her use of private emails, is a
modern example that conceptualizes these two theories of Locke and Hobbes. The
two philosophers, Locke and Hobbes, would approach this situation in two parallel
ways. From Locke s belief of allowing the people of the state to hold the overall
power, he would suggest to first evaluate to see if the intentions of Clinton were
strictly for the good of the

it to the exact spot of the tape to get the information that they needed.
That s is what caused the invention of file systems. The file system closely
resembled a filing cabinet. Just like a filing cabinet Information was stored in files
or directories. These folders could be placed in other folders thus creating
hierarchy i.e. it eradicated a single directory or folder, and this was the basis for the
file hierarchy system. The reason File Systems are necessary is because it ensures
reliability in data storage and it also manages access and retrieving data much easier

As computers grew in speed and capability the same had to be with information

Market Revolution In America Essay
In the late 1800s, there was a drastic change in the manual labor system originating in
the south, that soon moved to the north, and later spread to the entire world.
Traditional commerce became outdated with new modes of transportation and other
inventions. As a result, the north began to have a more powerful economy that
started to challenge the economies of some mid sized European cities of the time.
These changes caused by the Market Revolution had significant effects on U.S.
society, workers lives, and gender and family relations.
The beginning of technological innovations in America included the steamboat, the
train, better roads and canals, the telegraph, and interchangeable parts. Steamboats
replaced slow barges, and new riverboats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The commercial and industrial growth of the United States greatly elevated the
average income of the American people, but this increasing wealth was being
distributed unequally. The urban poor were mostly widows, orphans, immigrants,
or free blacks and almost entirely without resources, often homeless, and
dependent on charity or crime for survival. Yet, a large number of workers
managed to move at least one notch up the social ladder, even if they did not go
from poverty to riches. More importantly, geographical mobility meant that some
workers saved money, bought land, and moved west to farm it, but few urban
workers could afford to make the move. Much more common was the movement of
laborers from one industrial town to another after layoffs, looking for better
opportunities. Changes in the economy contributed to changed ideas about class,
gender, and family. The ideas of republican motherhood that had been prevalent
following the American Revolution, gave way to the cult of domesticity . Women
were expected to remain in the household and were relegated to second class
citizens. Additionally, children in urban households were much more likely to leave
the family in search of work than they had been in the rural world. This was because
of the shift of income earning work out of the home. Before, the family

My Career Choice Essay
I have not fully decided on a career choice, but if you ask me I would pick nursing.
I would choose nursing because of the many self rewarding tasks you can achieve
while being a nurse. For example helping and tending to an elderly who has no
strength to complete tasks anymore because of old age. Nursing is such a great
career choice, I can see myself doing well within the career and also being
financially stable because of good pay. Also another detail I noticed in being a
nurse is how flexible your schedule can be. I believe that this career, nursing, would
be something I would enjoy and be comfortable with. I can also see it bringing me
happiness in ways that I can help families who have a loved one or friends who are
need of urgent care. Without nurses there would not be that certain individual to
help another human being out at their toughest times. After graduating from high
school there is a range of nursing careers I can try to pursue. Getting an education
to achieve a bachelors in nursing is a very long process. Achieving a diploma or an
associates degree would be about two years in a community college or any
vocational nursing schools. Getting an associates degree would be the quickest
way possible, but the job offerings are way less. You can decide to go further than
an associate s degree which is the License Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered
Nurse (RN). An LPN student can pursue forward to become an RN later on.
Registered nurse programs usually go more in

Progressive Wal-Mart. Really. Essay
Former bureau chief for the Economist, Sebastian Mallaby writes in defense of a
large retailer in his essay, Progressive Wal Mart. Really. Through his essay he
explains that through the continual campaigns against the large corporation, Wal
Mart has been and still remains a benefit to working Americans seeking affordable
goods. He elaborates on the crusade of Anti Wal Mart campaigns looking to paint
the business as a detestable parasite, when all the company has done is keep costs
low and earnings for its shareholders high while trying to defeat competitors, just as
any company would. A progressive success story. Mallaby offers a few words from

When defending the store against the implication they re paying Chinese workers
pennies a day trying to keep up with the demand of merchandise for the store, he
makes a point that no one has offered any proof that the pay is any lower elsewhere
compared to the countries average. Mallaby, feeling further need to express the
unfair depiction of the company presents the information that the workers mainly
come from previously working on farms, ... earnings are even worse than at
WalMart s subcontractors and where the labor is still more grueling. While many
use the fact that 5 percent of its workers are on Medicaid against the company, the
fact remains, that such a number is common for large retail firms and the nation
average is just 1 percent below that of Wal Marts. For the same people who loudly
fought for a system that allowed Medicaid workers to work while keeping benefits,
Mallaby declares it, ironic that they would now be critical of the policy being used
to help its workers. Companies like Wal Mart are not run by saints Mallaby asserts,
putting forward one graceful negative before another, They can treat workers and
competitors roughly. They may even be poor stewards of the environment. However,
he continues, the company is large, global and it is only expected for critics to
emerge to question its
Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans
Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are
brought into the conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to
individuals, but they haven t always been this way. On television, many times,
Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially incapable/awkward , Asian
American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically awkward,
while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically
awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore
on page 479,
Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles,
they realize the need to be serious about their studies. But white college students
complain: Asian students are nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears
that Asian American students are raising class grade curves.
Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian
ethnic groups: Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are
mostly invisible to society, some groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the
Hmong Americans, are known for their population size. These groups are also the
groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the same race,
therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized from personal
experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me with
the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I
am told that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females
generally are shorter in stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black
hair. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my
darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes
and about how little they are. These experiences have made me believe that the role
that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the conversation
turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with
looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian
foods or, I think that kimonos are
Theme Of Language In The Film A Clockwork Orange
Language in both literature and film is a profound part, which takes its reader or
viewer on a journey and develop their perception of characters. A Clockwork
Orange deals with the brilliant usage of language in both novel and film. Anthony
Burgess the writer of the novel A Clockwork Orange uses language to create a
buffer, to indicate alliances with a specific social group and lastly, to embroil the
reader in the action. Stanley Kubrick the screenwriter of the film A Clockwork Orange
believes language is the least important aspect in a film so instead to create the same
effects that Burgess creates through language, Kubrick s uses cinematic techniques to
achieve the same effect. This essay will explore and examine the function and

The only characters who uses nadsat, is Alex and his friends thus, making is easy for
the reader to differentiate between teenage gang members and older mature
citizens. Colloquialism creates a community and Burgess uses language to make
the reader feel as though they are part of this gang. In the prison there is a direct
contrast to who is part of this social group, and who is not. Dr Brodsky tells Alex
you can t get the better of us (Burgess, Morrison, 2000:86), to which Alex replies
grahzny bratchnies (Burgess, Morrison, 2000:86). Not only is this a way to
differentiate gangs from normal society, but also an indication of which character are
teenagers and which are grownups, keeping the language exuberant in its
inventiveness (Nixon, 2010:8).
Different from Burgess Language alliance technique, Kubrick also indicate
alliances with a social group by means of the visual representation of Alex and his
friends. From the beginning of the film, there is a clear indication of who part of the
gang, and who is not. Alex and his friends wear white long sleeved shirts, and white

for the viewer to distinguish between the characters .Kubrick intentionally chooses

The Fluidity of the American Civil War
The American Civil War, widely known in the United States as simply the Civil War
as well as other sectional names, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 to
determine the survival of the Union or independence for the Confederacy. Among the
34 states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their
secession from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America. The
Confederacy, often simply called the South, grew to include eleven states, and
although they claimed thirteen states and additional western territories, the
Confederacy was never diplomatically recognized by a foreign country. The states
that remained loyal and did not declare secession were known as the Union or the
North. The war had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slavery was the central source of escalating political tension in the 1850s. The
Republican Party was determined to prevent any spread of slavery, and many
Southern leaders had threatened secession if the Republican candidate, Lincoln, won
the 1860 election. After Lincoln had won without carrying a single Southern state,
many Southern whites felt that disunion had become their only option, because they
thought that they were losing representation, which would hamper their ability to
promote pro slavery acts and policies.
Root causes
Slavery. Contemporary actors, the Union and Confederate leadership and fighting
soldiers on both sides believed that slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly
believed the war was to emancipate the slaves. Confederates fought to protect
southern society, and slavery as an integral part of it. From the anti slavery
perspective, the issue was primarily about whether the system of slavery was an
anachronistic evil that was incompatible with Republicanism in the United States.
The strategy of the anti slavery forces was containment to stop the expansion and thus
put slavery on a path to gradual extinction. The slave holding interests in the South
denounced this strategy as infringing upon their Constitutional rights. Southern
whites believed that the emancipation of slaves would destroy the South s economy
because of the alleged laziness of blacks under free labor.
Slavery was illegal in the

The Oppression Of Women In John Perley s Work
However, Perley understands she is inhibited and uses this knowledge to her
advantage by pursuing her intended goal without approval from a man. As long as
I am unmarried and independent, Maverick, I am very much in earnest in my wish
to manage my mills myself (Silent, 62 65). Perley does not have one significant
male figure in her life after her father s passing, so one is left to question whether
this lack of direct male companionship or authority helped influence her decisions
and involvement in the mills. Whatever my disqualifications, I am ready to remove
them...I shall feel that you refuse it to me because I am a young lady, not because I
do not stand ready... (Silent, 66). She directly resisted social assumptions by insisting

They were head of the household, while their rank was under their husbands. Her
authority was limited and she had no voice in public matters. Assumptions and
attitudes shaped ideas about what proper manhood and womanhood was, and this
ideology had the capacity to either empower or constrain men and women. Women
could either form bonds with other women, or challenge the social construct and
enter the public realm in exchange for their privately held sphere. Through
networking, women formed a sisterhood and resisted the ideology through their own

End Of Time Research Paper
End of time is also referred to as end of the ages, end of days, last days, finals days,
last time, latter days or eschaton. The selection of the end of times prophecies from
the Bible involve the end times events, when Jesus is to return and judge the living
and the dead. Jesus return will be unexpected and it will take people by surprise. The
resurrection, judgement, the millennial kingdom and the eternal state will all happen.
The term eschatology concerns personal eschatological issues such as death and the
intermediate state, as well as themes with more general focus. As mentioned in the
scriptures, physical death is the separation of the soul from the body; thus the body is
spiritually dead.
As posited by the Ecclesiastes writer, physical death in general is where the body
returns to the dust from which it came and the spirit to God who gave it. (Eccl 12:7).
The term death is not restricted to physical death; but rather, ... Show more content on

And at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the
book. Bible prophecies have tell us that the period leading up to the Great
Tribulation will be a time of increasing religious deception, religious persecution,
demonic miracles, extreme natural disasters like storms and earthquakes, economic
distress, famines, disease epidemics, violence of all kinds, intense conflicts in the
Middle East, localized wars plus great regional wars, and other terrifying events and
threats. Given that humanity has chosen to reject God s way this will result in
suffering and death. The time of end will occur in order for God to teach us humans
to repent of our sins and to turn to Him
How Does Adichie Create Tension In Purple Hibiscus
Mental and physical abuse can take a toll on a person s everyday life. Not only
does it hurt while it s happening, but there are a shocking amount of ramifications
afterwards. In abuse cases, victims are often idiomatic, selfless, and shameful. Abuse
victims may become lost in their own head while trying to please others. This can
relate to Kambili in the book Purple Hibiscus because she is constantly monitoring
the behavior of others, and searching for their approval. The book Purple Hibiscus by
Chimamanda Adichie, highlights the domestic abuse story of Papa, Mama, and their
children; Kambili and Jaja. The book sheds light on the everlasting effects of abuse,
and how it leaves victims. At the beginning of this story, tension is high in... Show

Towards the ending of the story, Kambili seems to be less tense towards situations
and more willing. For example, Kambili was not used to the palm oil bleaching,
and other traditions in Nsukka, causing her to feel like an outcast. On page 264
she says, I went to the verandah, still coughing, It was clear that I was unused to
bleaching palm oil . On the same page, she redeems herself. She recalls, I was
grateful when she called me back later to ask that i cut the ugu for the soup. I did
not just cut the ugu, I made the garri also... I had never done this before at home .
This shows a more capable and valiant side of Kambili. In the beginning of the
book, she would always watch from the sidelines and wonder if her relatives
thought less of her. She had a hidden jealousy or admiration for how quick Jaja was
able to adapt to Nsukka and felt like she was the odd one out. Her ability to cut the
ugu and prepare the garri shows that she is more comfortable with herself and
knows where she stands in Nsukka. Another example of Kambili s adversities
improving her takes place not only in Nsukka once again, but continues in the car
with her mother. On page 277, Kambili was attempting to drown out her
surroundings after being asked to pray for Aunty Ifeoma s visa. She says, Still I
would not pray that she get the visa. I could not pray for what i did not want .
During this time, Amaka started playing the Fela tapes and noticed Kambili singing
along. You are singing along, she said after a while . What makes this important is
that in the beginning of the story, she refused to sing these songs and was not even
allowed to listen to them. But now, she is singing them blindly. This shows that she
has subconsciously let go of the restraints her father held on her. She now only
loosely follows her father s wishes,
Role Of Brits Becoming Adventurous In The Kitchen
Are Brits becoming more adventurous in the kitchen? (346) Ambra Santucci
Appendix to the Teaching Unit July 2013 пїјпїјпїјWhat comes into your mind when
you think of British food? Probably fish and chips, or a Sunday dinner of meat and
two vegetables. But is British food really so bland and uninteresting? Despite a
reputation for less then spectacular cuisine, Britain is producing more and more top
class chefs who dominate our television screens and whose recipe books frequently
top the best seller lists. It‟s thanks to these TV chefs rather than any advertising
campaign that Britons are turning away from meat and two veg and ready made
meals and becoming more adventurous in their cooking habits. It seems that TV
programmes have the power to bring

California Irrigation System Analysis
Water drainer
With an everlasting reputation of droughts, California has caused their citizens to
struggle through their droughts in exchange of money. Peaking at 34 billion dollars
in revenue in 2013, California means business when it comes to agriculture.
California is in fact the largest agricultural producing state in meaning a large amount
of water from the state is going towards irrigation systems. As a result, the amount of
land and water used has a huge impact towards the state of California physically. If
California s agriculture business continues as it is now, the little amount of ground
water they have will cease sooner than it should naturally. By creating a new
irrigation system for farmers, the state can have more water to use for citizens and
allow their aquifers to rest.
Irrigation systems account for 70% of water usage in the world. By creating a new
irrigation system for agriculture, the system will be focusing on using as little water
necessary per plant. Farming uses a large amount of unnecessary water per plant as
their current system lacks efficiency. The typical irrigation system, flood irrigation, is
one of the most common irrigation systems used despite being one of the oldest. The
problem with this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of all the irrigation systems California uses for agriculture, 13 percent of them
is drip irrigation. What stops farmers from changing their systems is the low cost
of water itself. With the prices being low agriculture companies are not pressured
whatsoever to help reduce the water usage in California. While increasing the price
of water seems like the actual solution, doing so would depend on those who have
better practices on the competitive market drive. Those who are originally well off
will continue to survive and those that are not will be
Fixed Price Elasticity
Elasticity are products that have a general fixed price and consumers are not
willing to pay anymore than a specific price for that product. This is why when you
look at the graph for elasticity the graph shows a horizontal line because if there is
a decrease in the demand for a product and an increase in price the line becomes
flatter on the graph. There are many elastic products that I buy. For example,
gummy bears. I was recently traveling from Florida and I make sure to buy a bag of
gummy bears before I go to the airport. I generally expect to pay around $1 for a bag
gummy bears at Walgreen s or Walmart. When I get to the airport I try and stay away
from buying there foodbecause it is over priced and I am not willing to pay that much.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example gas is an example of an inelastic product. We can complain about gas
prices all we want, but unless you have an electric care there is not much that we
can do to avoid this product. No matter how high or low prices on gas go there will
always be a demand for the product. Video games are an example of inelastic
product that became an elastic product for me. As I got older I was not into video
games as much as I used to be. When I was a kid I wanted to be the new video
game that costs $65 and I did not care what the price was. When the new Call Of
Duty game came out I had to get it and would pay whatever the price was for that
product. It did not matter what the price was because my demand would always be
high. As I have gotten older I spend my money different ways and have realized
that I can live without the new video game for a few months until the price drops.
The reason video game company s make so much money is because people want to
buy the game right when I comes out, and that when it is the most expensive. If
people were to wait a few months the price drops dramatically. As I have matured
video games are not as important to me as they once were and so it has changed
from an inelastic purchase to an elastic
Speech On Denture Adhesive
Introduction
Many people approach purchasing a denture adhesive with some degree of anxiety
and skepticism. However, once you get over the initial apprehensiveness, you ll
come to appreciate denture adhesives as a great way to ensure you dentures remain
firmly rooted in your mouth all day long. While there is no way to determine the
absolute best denture adhesive available, today I m going to be showing you some of
the my personal favorites.
What is a Denture Adhesive?
I m sure you already understand the basic idea of a denture adhesive to prevent your
dentures from slipping off your gums throughout the day but do you know what
exactly goes into one? Obviously, all denture adhesives will vary slightly in their
ingredients, but most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may set you back a little more than some other denture adhesives on the market, but
the majority of those who have used it insist it is worth every penny.
Pros
Extra Strong Hold
The Effergrip Denture Adhesive Cream may look rather unimpressive in terms of its
packaging, but it offers an incredible performance. With an extra strong hold, it
ensures your dentures stay in place from the moment you put them in your mouth in
the morning right through to the moment you take them out at night.
No Aftertaste
A common problem with a lot of denture adhesives is that they leave an aftertaste
every time you swallow. The Effergrip Denture Adhesive Cream, however, leaves
virtually no aftertaste and allows you to enjoy every meal you eat throughout the day.
Cons
Difficult To Find In Shops
There was a time when the Effergrip Denture Adhesive Cream was as widely
available as the products of Fixodent. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the product
has become frustratingly difficult to find in shops across the United States of
America. It can still be purchased online, but that may prove difficult for a lot of less
technologically gifted denture wearers.

The Changing Of The Government In 1984, By George
Orwell
The past is constantly changing and history is continuously being interpreted in
different ways. This changing of the past is relevant in the modern world, as well as
the fictional world in in the novel 1984, written by George Orwell. The government
in 1984 has the ability to completely control the past, greatly impacting the daily lives
of the people living under this invasive government. The government s ability to
change the past causes the control that an individual has over their life to be stripped
away, which stops individuals from making lasting impacts in society.
In the novel 1984, the fictional government, Ingsoc, brainwashes the members of
society so that their ideas match the radical ideas of Ingsoc. Ingsoc holds power over

The lack of control an individual has over their life is shown clearly through the
character Winston. Winston is a revolutionary who hates the Ingsoc government
and realizes the secrets they are hiding. The altering of the past takes people who
make significant contributions in their lifetime and make it seem as if they did
not exist. It is described to Winston that once one is a member of the Ingsoc party,
whatever happened you vanished, and neither you nor your actions were ever
heard of again (Orwell 165). Winston expresses his ideas of disobeying the
government many times during his life. He keeps a journal where he writes about
his hatred towards the government, and has frequent conversations with his love,
Julia, where they discuss all things wrong with Ingsoc. Despite these acts against
the government, all records of Winston s rebellion are erased, as if he never exists.
This takes away the control Winston has over his life because no matter what he
does all records of his existence and ideas are easily destroyed by Ingsoc. The
government does not hide the fact that people s records are being destroyed, and even
the most revolutionary members of society, such as Winston, are told that their
existence is insignificant. Only when Winston is captured for having radical
thoughts, he is told that nothing exists except through human consciousness (Orwell
265). Since

Essay On A Hero. How to Write Your Hero Essay

  • 1. Essay On A Hero Crafting an essay on the concept of a hero can be a challenging endeavor, as the term "hero" is subjective and can be interpreted in various ways. The difficulty lies not only in defining what constitutes a hero but also in navigating the intricate nuances of heroism across different cultures, historical periods, and personal perspectives. To begin with, one must delve into the rich tapestry of literature, mythology, and history to unravel the myriad archetypes of heroes that have emerged over time. This requires meticulous research to understand the cultural, social, and historical contexts that shape the perception of heroism. Moreover, the task becomes even more intricate when attempting to analyze contemporary heroes, as societal values and expectations are continually evolving. The challenge further intensifies when trying to balance the heroic qualities with the inevitable flaws that make a character relatable and human. Striking the right chord between idealism and realism is a delicate act, demanding a keen understanding of storytelling and character development. In addition, the writing process demands a coherent structure that seamlessly weaves together diverse perspectives on heroism, presenting a comprehensive and engaging narrative. Juggling the introduction, body, and conclusion while maintaining a coherent flow of ideas can be a formidable task, especially when grappling with the intricate nature of the hero concept. Furthermore, the essay should avoid superficiality and delve into the deeper philosophical and ethical dimensions of heroism. Analyzing the motivations, sacrifices, and ethical dilemmas faced by heroes adds another layer of complexity to the writing process. In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of a hero requires a delicate balance of research, analysis, and creativity. It demands an exploration of diverse cultural and historical contexts, a nuanced understanding of human nature, and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner. For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of such essays, various resources are available. HelpWriting.net offers a platform where one can explore similar essays and access a wealth of writing assistance to make the essay-writing journey a more manageable endeavor. • 2. Chris Landreth Documentary This review will critically analyze and evaluate, Ryan by Chris Landreth and Waltz with Bashir by Ari Folman, and assess the role of the animated documentaries in the film world. It will explore the truth and validity in animated documentaries and how each of the films visually portray the key themes. I will argue that animations can be valid documentaries, due to their focus on the subjective and unique ways to depict emotion and mental responses. Animation is derived from the latin word animare, meaning to give life to (Wells, 1998). Animation is therefore the representation of life, both real and imagined. Animation can express more than just the physical world (Wells, 1999) therefore making it a unique way to create a documentary. Animated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using primary evidence to create the films, there is a suggested basis of truth. Each of these films treat the interviews in different ways. Folman uses the interviews to further his own story to evoke the memories he has repressed. In contrast, Landreth uses them to reflect more directly on his own personal experience. This is first seen in Waltz with Bashir through Folman s first epiphany in which he has his first flashback to the war. Likewise this is first seen in Ryan when Landreth asks Larking to give up alcohol. The montage of photos that follow Larkin s angry outburst at this suggestion reveals that Landreth s mother also had an alcohol addiction, which caused her death. A black substance covers the old photos of Landreth s mother and increases to cover the photos as as she ages. At this point, we gain greater insight into Landreth s personal contribution to the story and how it has affected the production of the film. Landreth clearly relates his own experience of the disease to Larkin s situation. This personal connection is also seen at the end of the film when Larkin in seen begging on the street. Landreth appears across the street, looking more abstracted like Larkin. This change in physical appearance indicates a new understanding of himself which resulted from his meeting with Larkin. Landreth believes that we don t see things as they are but we
  • 3. Ecological Footprint In Canada Introduction In order to preserve Canada s natural capital, it is imperative to improve Canada s ecological footprint. A country s ecological footprint consists of that country s impact on their environment via their use of resources2. Canada has a small population which results in a much lower ecological footprint than countries with bigger populationsВ¬6. Canada s total ecological footprint is 224 global hectares (gha)6. This is comparable to the United Stateswith a total ecological footprint of 2.3 billion gha, China with 2.9 billion gha and India with 1.1 billion gha6. This does not mean that Canada is better at preserving natural capital than these other countries6. Canada s per capita ecological footprint is 6.4gha6. The University of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the largest contributors to a high ecological footprint is related to personal transportation and the construction, maintenance and operations of buildings3. When more people are living in an area, the amount of energy and transportation needed decreases and so does the area s ecological footprint3. This occurs because as walking increases, the amount of personal driving decreases. Another way Vancouver is working to reduce its ecological footprint is by protecting land in the Green Zone 7. About 60% of the region s land is protected7. This includes agricultural land, watersheds, and natural and recreational areas7. These Green Zones will limit access and help preserve the region s natural capital. The David Suzuki Foundation proposed a South Coast Conservation Program in order to conserve and restore at risk species and ecosystems on the British Columbia South Coast 9. The projects main focus is to preserve ecosystems and maintain biodiversity9. These are essential components in improving natural capital. The Emily Carr University of Art in Design (ECUAD) in Vancouver joined forces with The David Suzuki Foundation (DSF)10. Their goal was an to provide a natural capital application as an educational tool to provide data on natural capital have it more readily
  • 4. Tiberius Quaestor Tiberius Claudius Nero was the second emperor of the Roman Empire, successor of Augustus. Born the 16th of November 42 BC in the wonderful city of Rome. Tiberius was the son of Tiberius Claudius Nero and Livia Drusilla. He was also the brother of Nero Claudius Drusus. Tiberius was only four years old when his parents got divorced, when his mother decided to marry Octavian and later to Augustus, who became his adopted father. After adoption Augustus changed his news son s name to, TiberiusJulius Caesar. He was also the grandchild of Julius Caesar. Tiberius created a family of his own with his wife Vipsania Agrippina and had a son named Drusus Julius Caesar. Tiberius also adopted his nephew, Germanicus, and raised him as his own. Tiberius... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he was 17 years old, in 24 BC under the reign of Augustus, Tiberius was appointed a quaestor. A quaestor is a public officer who takes care of financial affairs. He always served as a prosecutor and successfully convicted Fannius Caepio and Varro Murena for betraying the country. He always participated in other administrations like inspecting slave barracks and regulating grain supply. Tiberius s first military act consisted of him leading armed forces to Armenia where he then crowded Tigranes as emperor. He always accompanied his new adopted father Augustus to help free the standards from the Parthians. On his way home from his trip with Augustus, was appointed as an army commander also known as a praetor. His next mission was to be sent to Gaul and overcome the people. Once he returned back to Rome in 19 BC he was presented the position of consul. He then had to leave once again to fight battles over in Germany in 12 BC where he captured roughly about 40,000 prisoners. Tiberius then relocated the prisoners in Gaul. He returned again in 7 BC and served his position as the consul. The following year he was granted the tribunician power . Still during the year of 6 BC, Tiberius accompanied general Gaius Sentius Saturninus in invading the Germanic tribe of Marcomanni with two separate
  • 5. Family Guy Character Analysis Family Guy, an Analytical Review by Caleb Packard I am not allowed to watch much TV. Therefore, I must be super selective about what I watch. While I could waste a lot of time watching Duck Dynasty, when it comes to choosing a show, Family Guy is my top selection. I think the popular cartoon comedy Family Guy, written by Seth MacFarlane, is one of the best shows still running today. Among currently running animated sitcoms, there are a few that have current connections to people and events. Most famous of this genre of shows are South Park and Family Guy. Unlike South Park, which follows a group of friends at school, Family Guy is about a family. The Griffin family consists of parents Peter and Lois, their children Chris, Meg, Stewie, and the family dog, Brian. Instead of showcasing the adventures of an individual struggling to balance impulses and responsibilities, Family Guy focuses on the dynamics created by family members who are extreme in their personality traits and very different from each other. Peter, the father, is impulsive, incompetent, and easily excitable. Lois is the stereotypical responsible mother and wife. Meg is a classic case of a teenage girl struggling to fit in at high school. Chris is your average awkward and immature teenage boy. Stewie, the precocious baby, is by far the smartest and most cunning of the cast. Interestingly, the screenwriters often drop hints that he is gay. He is eager to assume adult responsibilities and motivated to have

Weather derivatives structures commonly used are: i) cap a call option; ii) Floor a put option; iii) Collar a put and a call option, usually with little or no premium; iv) Swap a derivative with a profit and loss profile of a futures contract v) Digital option an option that pays either a predetermined amount if acertain temperature or degree day level is reached, or nothing at all in other case. Unlike many other financial products it was easy to create this index, because weather is independently measured. As people have different opinions on which way the weather index was going to go (warmer or colder) then a market was, in principle, possible. At first insurance companies were unimpressed so Enron decided to act as a risk capacity provider to start the market. In 1997, the first major deal took place between three US energy companies, which created sufficient publicity to persuade insurance companies into the market. The underlying issues about data and pricing were also being resolved. In the UK, the first weather derivative deal was sold by Enron to Scottish Hydropower who, at that time, 1998, were taking part in a government pilot scheme for the privatization and deregulation of energy markets. Figure 1 Who needs weather derivatives? Any company whose revenue is affected by weather has a potential need for weather derivatives. • 7. Stalling A Fighter Jet In The Navy a fighter jet all this knowledge will come into your mind every time you go to fly or fly your missions. When you are flying a fighter jet in the Navy there are certain aspects that you should be aware of. For example fighter jets can stall or in other words the engine could stop running. A stall occur at the angle of attack, at which point the airflow over the wingbecomes chaotic and the wings can no longer produce sufficient liftto counteract weight . As the airfoilapproaches the stalling speed, the point of transition, or separation point, moves forward enough to exceed the design factor of the wing. An airfoil is any surface used to help lift and control the airplane, by creating or moving the air currents. The stalling angle is
  • 8. How Many Patriots Were Loyalists Loyalists vs. Patriots Believe it or not there were some colonists during the American Revolution that supported British rule. Loyalists are what they were called. They remained loyal to England and King George. However, there were also two other groups along with the loyalists which include the patriots and the people who were neutral. The few colonists that remained loyal to Great Britain, during the American Revolution, were wrong in doing so, even though Britain had a nice, stable government. If you were a loyalist you were hated by the patriots. The patriots were people who wanted to gain independence from Britain. U.S.history.org states, Patriots subjected loyalists to public humiliation and violence. Many loyalists found their property vandalized, looted, and burned. This shows that the colonists who were loyalists had a tough life during the American Revolution. So, it wasn t a smart choice to become a loyalist during that time period.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the things they did was tax the colonists on things they didn t get to vote on in parliament. NC Pedia states, Parliament did not have the right to take their money by imposing taxes. No taxation without representation became their rallying cry. This means that colonists didn t want to get taxed for something they didn t have a say in. They know that taxes are needed to help run the country but, they didn t get to help decide what should be taxed. Great Britain also made some unfair laws. For example, they decided to make it legal that a British soldier come and sleep in your home and you would have to feed them. So, as you can tell, the British did some pretty unfair and cruel things so, who would want to be a part of

Public Key Infrastructure Public key infrastructure, known as PKI supports the distribution and identification of public encryption keys which allows users and computers to securely exchange data over the internet and networks to confirm the identity of the other party. Without PKI, sensitive information can still be encrypted and exchanged, but there would be no assurance of the identity of the other party. Any form of sensitive data exchanged over the Internet is reliant on PKI for security. A standard PKI consists of several components: hardware, software, policies and standards, administration, distribution of keys and digital certificates. Digital certificates are at the heart of PKI as they confirm the identity of the certificate subject and bind that identity to the public key contained in the certificate. Cause Of Homelessness The United States, one of the most powerful nations in the world; who had fought in many wars, put thousands of boots on different soil; who has the most powerful and advanced military forces that bring peace; all these credits belong to our heroes, our veterans. Many of the veterans lost their lives on the front line, with thousands of them becoming wounded and not being able to receive the medical care and benefits they require after service. Based on a 2003 article called Treatment of Veterans by William Triplett, America has always promised good care and benefits to veterans for their service to the nation (973) but in reality, this is not the case. In addition to this, Triplett found that an estimated 1.7 million veterans were unable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PTSD is a mental health condition many soldiers who were involved in combat experience. This condition is triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. The symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety, as well uncontrollable thoughts about the event; it s also the number one cause of veteran suicide. A Vietnam War veteran named Burk, stated those who have had experience with applying for PTSD benefits application said you have to relive [the traumatic event], write it down and then deal with the bureaucracy. Most guys can t withstand that (qtd. 979). In history classes, one learns that battle in war can be a living hell on earth, that no one should have to experience. Veterans, who have had gone to war and came home with a mental illness, have to dig deep into their nightmares they suppress to be able to file the claim. Even though veterans are being forced to remember in painful memories, the claims are not always accepted. In 2005, the VA sought to review 72,000 cases of claims for PTSD because it felt that 2.5% of them were fraudulent. The VA suspended the review after a sampling of 2100 were reviewed with few discrepancies found (English Marlanda). VA agents rejected veterans claim without knowing the painful experiences they had gone through in war because they felt most of them were

I kept repeating the phrase into the phone as if I had never heard of the sixth letter of the alphabet before. Like it was a concoction of my wife s imagination. Once home, she showed me the proof; a half sheet of college ruled, spiral bound, white paper with numbering down the left side of a red margin followed by a series of answers neatly written on the right. Four of the answers were marked with a large X and a red number 60 circled at the top. If I don t write about my other daughter Ella much, it s because she takes to Decatur like a duck to water. She s made more friends easier, finishes homework faster and is further along in the school scene than Sadie ever was at the same age. Which is surprising, because Sadie is that focused kid you ll likely find in a quiet place reading a book. Ella, on the other hand, is likely to be swinging from the chandelier, screaming wildly and naked as a newborn. But Ella had a head start. She walked Decatur halls for three years before she took a class. Ella knows every teacher by sight. She knew our Zero Excuse tolerance policy regarding homework years before it mattered for her. Sadie was her vanguard. If this were NASCAR race, Ella would be drafting. But there s something else. We ve always wrestled with whether Decatur was appropriate for Sadie. We never thought of it, or any school, as our manifest destiny. We found Decatur as a

Ambivalence or indifference toward citizenship among illegals. The primary goal of most undocumented immigrants continues to be what originally drew them here: supporting their families, whether back home or in the United States Resistance In the past 50 years, polling data have charted a deepening opposition to immigration, linked in part, it appears, to economic concerns. • 14. Leading With Jesus Leading with Jesus Leading others is a lot like skinning a cat, there are multiple ways to do. Similarly, some of these ways will produce positive results, while others will leave you wish you thought your decisions through a little bit more. In a world driven so much by ego, it is hard work to get a group of people to work together with the group s best interest in mind. Leaders need to be open to new ideas on how to relate to the people they are leading. If they fail to find ways to connect with the people they are leading, it will spell disaster for their group. The model has strong purposes currently in fields such as athletic coaching and in the military. Coaches work to prepare their athletes for competition by practicing and repeating techniques. They also scout their opponents and then use the information found while scouting to help prepare their their team for the upcoming opponent. In the military, numerous tasks and tests are presented to members to make sure they are prepared for the dealings they will have when they are on their own and in battle. This leadership model has strong ties to the greatest leader of all, Jesus Christ. Christ used this type of modeling when he prepared his apostles for their ministry work in Matthew. Christ began by laying out the the mission, gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out and to cure every disease and every sickness. (Matthew 10:15, New Revised Standard Version). He gave them that authority in order to prepare them for the unclean cities and people they were to encounter. As He continue to address these 12, Christ explained to them they were to proclaim the good news, The kingdom of heaven has come near. (Matt. 10:7, NRSV). By addressing the people of the cities to this news, the apostles would also use a form of situational leadership by preparing the people for

The Impact Of Ford And The Firestone Crisis Ford and the Firestone crisis was a long standing controversy between the car manufacturer and the tyre company based on the failures of Ford Explorer vehicles with Firestone tyres. In the year 2001, the controversy broke out as there were plenty of incidents happened as more than 220 people have been killed with road accidents all over America involving Ford Explorer vehicles. There was a bit of rivalry between Ford and General Motors and with this controversy it had damaged the reputation of Ford which resulted in the loss of its market share and its loyalty among customers. Both the companies were facing millions of dollars of lawsuits from various costumers. Firestone during that time is worried about the fact that other vehicle companies would cancel their orders with firestone because of this controversy. During the committee hearing, there were evidences which showed that Ford have been replacing firestone tyres with tyres of Low quality (The Economist, 2017). Diffusion And Osmosis Of Potato Cores Diffusion and Osmosis in Potato Cores By Brittany Pangilinan Abstract Van t Hoff s Law suggests that the osmotic potential of a cell is proportional to the concentration of solute particles in a solution. The purpose of this experiment was to determine if there are any differences between the osmolalities, the no weight changes of osmolalities, and the water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of different solutes. The percent weight change of the potato cores was calculated through a change in weight method. The potato core s weight was measured before and after they were put into different concentrations of a solute for 1.5 hours. In our experiment, there were no significant differences from the osmotic potentials of our results and the osmotic potentials of other scientists work. Ending with chi square values of 2.17 and 2.71, and p values of 0.256 and 0.337, concluding that there is no difference in water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of different solutes at varying concentrations. Introduction Water potential is the measure of potential energy in water, or the difference in potential energy between a water sample and pure water. According to Kosinski (2015), white potatoes are an experimentally favorite subject for the determination of water potential in plant tissue. In our lab we use a procedure called change in weight method, which was published by Meyer and Anderson in 1935. Where we use potato cores to explain and show

Aristotle s interpretation of virtue is found in Book II of the Nicomachean Ethics, the man who possesses character excellence does the right thing, at the right time, and in the right way. While this holds true, it leads to an ambiguous interpretation. Aristotleunderstood virtueas a set of character traits that, once developed, will lead to an overall good character. Core virtues such as respect, loyalty, and honesty make up the foundation of the virtue theory of ethical thinking. By living an ethical life, a person must demonstrate moral character traits. Similar to the union flag, it had two red bars and a white bar. This flag, however, was not easily distinguished from the Union flag, especially on the battlefield. The second national flag was created and put into action in May 1863. This flag was easily mistaken for a white flag of surrender especially when the air was calm and the flag hung limply. (Flags of the Confederacy) This was an unfortunate design flaw on the Confederacy s part. It was nicknamed the Stainless Banner because the flag was white with the battle flag placed in the top left corner. This flag served from 1863 to 1865(Flags of the Confederacy). It also included four more stars, for the states of Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, and North Carolina. However, there is not just one hero, but two: Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who plays the role of the non traditional hero, and Thorin Oakenshield, a strong minded dwarf who represents the traditional hero. When the wood elves had taken the Company hostage, it was Bilbo who snuck in and evaded the guards notice for over a week (#203), and then freed the dwarves from the dungeon (#208). His small stature and his ring of invisibility are all factors that contribute to Bilbo s stealth. And of course, it is Bilbo s ability to lead that was one of his greatest assets. He was not much of a leader at first, but as we delved deeper, we soon learned that he is indeed worthy of being deemed a leader. There are two quotes that prove this, found on page 204: ...and they [the dwarves] all trusted Bilbo. Just what Gandalf had said would happen, you see. Perhaps that was part of his reason for going off and leaving, and, ...Thorin had taken heart again hearing how the hobbit had rescued his companions from the spider... Bilbo inspired Thorin to not give up, gained the trust of the dwarves, earned their respect, and proved his abilities to the mentor, like a true leader. The reason Tolkien had Bilbo developed these skills was to prepare him for the supreme ordeal (Smaug), and his journey back. It was necessary for Tolkien to carefully plan Bilbo s character development in order for him to realistically face these obstacles. Despite his small size,

Many people seek to attain riches, love, happiness or high stature within society. When we people set that goal, we tend to mold our lifestyles around it. As people work throughout their lives to achieve this ultimate goal, it becomes apparent to others what it is we are working so hard for. Just as this pattern is evident in modern society, it can also be seen in the times of Homer, particularly in the great Greek epic, the Iliad. Factors That V Leiden Thrombophilia Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia Thrombophilia is a disorder that contains several genetic components that can cause an individual to form arterial and venous thrombi more readily. Many serious medical complications can result from thrombus formations that are often times fatal. In fact, a venous thromboembolism (VTE) is relatively common and a thrombosis of the deep veins of the legs or pelvis can lead to morbidity and mortality. Small portions of this patient population even develop pulmonary emboli (PE), which can be fatal. This major medical problem affects 1 in 1,000 persons per year and approximately 1 in 130 Americans younger than age 65 develop a VTE (Crow, 2003; Kujovich, 2011). Interestingly enough, inherited thrombophilia can be identified in half of the patients presenting with VTE (Kujovich, 2011). In 1993, European investigators Dahlback and his colleagues recognized a new mechanism for familial thrombophilia. Their research was initiated in order to investigate the cause for a number of young adults that presented with VTE, who had a family history of thrombosis but no detectable genetic link. As a result, a previously unrecognized mechanism associated with activated protein C resistance (APCR) was found Factor V Leiden mutation (Crow, 2003). Factor V Leiden is considered the single most common cause of hereditary thrombophilia and is often linked to thrombosis due to hereditary hypercoagulability. Studies have indicated that factor V Leiden is a

Salmon culture site selection: considerations for the determination of an appropriate location for a partially integrated coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) operation. Sarah Davis 27600105 Applied Biology 418 Dr. Ackerman October 31, 2014 Introduction The commercial culture of salmonids is concentrated on three high value species: Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch), and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) (Asche and Bjorndal 2011). Early North American commercial salmon culturists favoured coho salmon as a culture species due to their rapid growth rate and hardiness (i.e. their capacity to survive under unfavourable conditions), combined with the availability of a surplus of eggs from pre existing government hatchery programs (Pennell and Barton 1996; Fairgrieve 2006). Today, global aquaculture production of coho salmon is dominated primarily by Chile (producing 161,953 tonnes in 2012) and to a lesser extent Japan (producing 9,728 tonnes in 2012) (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations [FAO] 2014). While Canada has been remained a minor producer within the last decade, North American coho salmon production has been severely curtailed by social and economics issues combined with a lack of suitable operation sites (Fairgrieve 2006). In the wild, mature coho salmon return to their freshwater natal site during late summer and autumn, and spawning occurs between November and January (Fairgrieve 2006). Eggs are

Thomas Hobbes And John Locke s Political Theories Essay Analyzing Thomas Hobbes and John Locke s Political Theories and Justifying if these Governmental Officials Have Legitimate Reason To Hold Secrets from the Public Systems of government across the globe are utilized to various extents. Similarly to John Locke s vision of government, the United States stands by a system of representative democracy. This means that our government highly values that the people of a society hold the power of where the direction of their state goes through electing officials. In Locke s book, Two Treatises, he states that if a government official extends their power in any way, other than to better citizens lives, then the people have the right to replace those elected into power (77). However, Thomas Hobbes, in The Leviathan, explains that it is human nature to always have self interest in mind. Hobbes confirms that even though he is open to representative democracy or having multiple officials lead as an assembly, due to human nature getting in the way, having more than a single governmental official ruling the state as a monarch is not ideal. Hillary Clinton, and her use of private emails, is a modern example that conceptualizes these two theories of Locke and Hobbes. The two philosophers, Locke and Hobbes, would approach this situation in two parallel ways. From Locke s belief of allowing the people of the state to hold the overall power, he would suggest to first evaluate to see if the intentions of Clinton were strictly for the good of the

The commercial and industrial growth of the United States greatly elevated the average income of the American people, but this increasing wealth was being distributed unequally. The urban poor were mostly widows, orphans, immigrants, or free blacks and almost entirely without resources, often homeless, and dependent on charity or crime for survival. Yet, a large number of workers managed to move at least one notch up the social ladder, even if they did not go from poverty to riches. More importantly, geographical mobility meant that some workers saved money, bought land, and moved west to farm it, but few urban workers could afford to make the move. Much more common was the movement of laborers from one industrial town to another after layoffs, looking for better opportunities. Changes in the economy contributed to changed ideas about class, gender, and family. The ideas of republican motherhood that had been prevalent following the American Revolution, gave way to the cult of domesticity . Women were expected to remain in the household and were relegated to second class citizens. Additionally, children in urban households were much more likely to leave the family in search of work than they had been in the rural world. This was because of the shift of income earning work out of the home. Before, the family

While many use the fact that 5 percent of its workers are on Medicaid against the company, the fact remains, that such a number is common for large retail firms and the nation average is just 1 percent below that of Wal Marts. For the same people who loudly fought for a system that allowed Medicaid workers to work while keeping benefits, Mallaby declares it, ironic that they would now be critical of the policy being used to help its workers. Racial Stereotypes Of Asian-Americans Today, when society talks about diversity, often times, Asian Americans are brought into the conversation and are talked about as highly looked up to individuals, but they haven t always been this way. On television, many times, Asian Americans are represented as nerdy and socially incapable/awkward , Asian American males are mostly shown as being weak and stereotypically awkward, while Asian American females are either shown as exotic or also stereotypically awkward and nerdy, as stated by Takaki in his book Strangers from a Different Shore on page 479, Hopeful a college education can help them [the students] overcome racial obstacles, they realize the need to be serious about their studies. But white college students complain: Asian students are nerds. This very stereotype betrays nervousness fears that Asian American students are raising class grade curves. Though, these representations do only account for the three most popular Asian ethnic groups: Japanese, Chinese and Korean. The other Asian ethnic groups are mostly invisible to society, some groups, such as the Vietnamese Americans and the Hmong Americans, are known for their population size. These groups are also the groups that tend to live in areas that are largely populated with the same race, therefore, congregating to one area. A lot of times, I ve realized from personal experience, that when people realize that I am Asian, they tend to compare me with the stereotypes that are generally associated with being Asian American. Often, I am told that I am tall for being Asian as the stereotypes say that Asians females generally are shorter in stature and are petite with light skin and pin straight black hair. On occasion, I am told that I look more Hawaiian than I do Asian due to my darker skin and bigger build. Though, I do hear a lot of comments regarding my eyes and about how little they are. These experiences have made me believe that the role that Asian Americans play in the race conversation now is that when the conversation turns to Asian America, people automatically look towards stereotypes along with looking at certain traditional cultures often stating things such as, I really like Asian foods or, I think that kimonos are

Theme Of Language In The Film A Clockwork Orange Language in both literature and film is a profound part, which takes its reader or viewer on a journey and develop their perception of characters. A Clockwork Orange deals with the brilliant usage of language in both novel and film. Anthony Burgess the writer of the novel A Clockwork Orange uses language to create a buffer, to indicate alliances with a specific social group and lastly, to embroil the reader in the action. Stanley Kubrick the screenwriter of the film A Clockwork Orange believes language is the least important aspect in a film so instead to create the same effects that Burgess creates through language, Kubrick s uses cinematic techniques to achieve the same effect. The Fluidity of the American Civil War The American Civil War, widely known in the United States as simply the Civil War as well as other sectional names, was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the survival of the Union or independence for the Confederacy. Among the 34 states in January 1861, seven Southern slave states individually declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America. The Confederacy, often simply called the South, grew to include eleven states, and although they claimed thirteen states and additional western territories, the Confederacy was never diplomatically recognized by a foreign country. Slavery was the central source of escalating political tension in the 1850s. The Republican Party was determined to prevent any spread of slavery, and many Southern leaders had threatened secession if the Republican candidate, Lincoln, won the 1860 election. After Lincoln had won without carrying a single Southern state, many Southern whites felt that disunion had become their only option, because they thought that they were losing representation, which would hamper their ability to promote pro slavery acts and policies. Root causes Slavery. Contemporary actors, the Union and Confederate leadership and fighting soldiers on both sides believed that slavery caused the Civil War. Union men mainly believed the war was to emancipate the slaves. Confederates fought to protect southern society, and slavery as an integral part of it. From the anti slavery perspective, the issue was primarily about whether the system of slavery was an anachronistic evil that was incompatible with Republicanism in the United States. The strategy of the anti slavery forces was containment to stop the expansion and thus put slavery on a path to gradual extinction. The slave holding interests in the South denounced this strategy as infringing upon their Constitutional rights. Southern whites believed that the emancipation of slaves would destroy the South s economy because of the alleged laziness of blacks under free labor. Slavery was illegal in the

The selection of the end of times prophecies from the Bible involve the end times events, when Jesus is to return and judge the living and the dead. Jesus return will be unexpected and it will take people by surprise. The resurrection, judgement, the millennial kingdom and the eternal state will all happen. The term eschatology concerns personal eschatological issues such as death and the intermediate state, as well as themes with more general focus. As mentioned in the scriptures, physical death is the separation of the soul from the body; thus the body is spiritually dead. On page 264 she says, I went to the verandah, still coughing, It was clear that I was unused to bleaching palm oil . On the same page, she redeems herself. She recalls, I was grateful when she called me back later to ask that i cut the ugu for the soup. I did not just cut the ugu, I made the garri also... I had never done this before at home . This shows a more capable and valiant side of Kambili. In the beginning of the book, she would always watch from the sidelines and wonder if her relatives thought less of her. She had a hidden jealousy or admiration for how quick Jaja was able to adapt to Nsukka and felt like she was the odd one out. Her ability to cut the ugu and prepare the garri shows that she is more comfortable with herself and knows where she stands in Nsukka. Another example of Kambili s adversities improving her takes place not only in Nsukka once again, but continues in the car with her mother. On page 277, Kambili was attempting to drown out her surroundings after being asked to pray for Aunty Ifeoma s visa. She says, Still I would not pray that she get the visa. I could not pray for what i did not want . During this time, Amaka started playing the Fela tapes and noticed Kambili singing along. You are singing along, she said after a while . What makes this important is that in the beginning of the story, she refused to sing these songs and was not even allowed to listen to them. But now, she is singing them blindly. This shows that she has subconsciously let go of the restraints her father held on her. She now only loosely follows her father s wishes,

Peaking at 34 billion dollars in revenue in 2013, California means business when it comes to agriculture. California is in fact the largest agricultural producing state in meaning a large amount of water from the state is going towards irrigation systems. As a result, the amount of land and water used has a huge impact towards the state of California physically. If California s agriculture business continues as it is now, the little amount of ground water they have will cease sooner than it should naturally. By creating a new irrigation system for farmers, the state can have more water to use for citizens and allow their aquifers to rest. Irrigation systems account for 70% of water usage in the world. This is why when you look at the graph for elasticity the graph shows a horizontal line because if there is a decrease in the demand for a product and an increase in price the line becomes flatter on the graph. There are many elastic products that I buy. For example, gummy bears. I was recently traveling from Florida and I make sure to buy a bag of gummy bears before I go to the airport. As I got older I was not into video games as much as I used to be. When I was a kid I wanted to be the new video game that costs $65 and I did not care what the price was. When the new Call Of Duty game came out I had to get it and would pay whatever the price was for that product. It did not matter what the price was because my demand would always be high. As I have gotten older I spend my money different ways and have realized that I can live without the new video game for a few months until the price drops. The reason video game company s make so much money is because people want to buy the game right when I comes out, and that when it is the most expensive. If people were to wait a few months the price drops dramatically. As I have matured video games are not as important to me as they once were and so it has changed from an inelastic purchase to an elastic

It is described to Winston that once one is a member of the Ingsoc party, whatever happened you vanished, and neither you nor your actions were ever heard of again (Orwell 165). Winston expresses his ideas of disobeying the government many times during his life.
