argue that there are examples of both successful democracies and dictatorships

The documentary, Solitary Confinement, really brings to light the issues that
surround this old form of punishment. These tactics were used in the past, and then
were eventually regarded as being cruel and inhumane. Somehow, the idea of
solitary confinement has returned and is respected among many people. I believe
that there are some people who do need to be put in solitary confinement and some
who shouldn t have to go through that psychological pain. The movie did shine some
perspective on to me, as i had not nearly any clue as to what really went down behind
those walls.
First of all, at Colorado State Penitentiary, they call it administrative segregation
rather than solitary confinement. This is because their goal is supposedly, just to cut
them off from physical contact until they are determined to be safe around other
people. The feelings projected by the men being interviewed in the documentary tie
in with the feelings that Stanley Tookie Williams expressed in his book, Life in Prison

John Steinbeck usually uses California and the Salinas valley as his setting and is
usually placed in the 30s when the great depression occurred. The Grapes of Wrath
is about a family living in Oklahoma and they are farmers during the period called
the dustbowl in which culture was rough because there were droughts and
conditions were not suitable for farming. This family, because they are not doing
too well, decide to move to California to find jobs and dignity. The author writes
about the struggle of a family during and Great Depression and also the struggle of
each individual as their lives are being torn apart. He not only shows how they go
through these hardships, but also how they will overcome them. In John Steinbeck s
novel, The Grapes of Wrath, he argues that all who follow the ways of the Bible will
become renewed at the end. He uses religion and parallelism in order to bring to light,
the chance of hope that is evident within dire circumstances, and project changes
within people during turmoil.
The Grapes of Wrath incorporates parallels between both the Old Testament and the
New Testament. Steinbeck uses biblical symbols from the book Exodus to tell the

For my Social Norm Project I decided to go to a scary movie at AMC. My friend
and I went to the scary movie called Crimson Peak when the movie theater was

Clean technique As it was well stated by Barber et al (3) it may be difficult to
determine whether to use a clean technique or a sterile technique when dealing with
the different types of wound one encounters. As mentioned in the same article, it is
important to consider the policies of the hospital. The the type of wound, bone
exposure and an immunosuppressed state would also require sterile technique.
Research has been done in order to determine which technique to use. The Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has emitted guidelines regarding that
clean procedure should be used in the context of pressure ulcers. On the other hand,
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advise for use of sterile
technique when dealing with surgical wounds. The CDC also has provided
healthcare workers with guidelines up to 48 hours after wound closure and not for
longer periods of time. The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society s fact
sheet (4) has brought some definitions and recommendations with regards to clean or
sterile techniques to be used in wound care. Table 3 outlines some of the reasons

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder that affects at least 10% of
women living in the United States. Insulin Resistance plays a large part in fertility
for women who have polycystic ovary syndrome. Myo Inositol improves fertility,
and alleviates many of the symptoms associated with polycystic ovary syndrome
and insulin resistance. Case findings of women with polycystic ovary syndrome
were first documented in 1935 by American gynecologists Irving F. Stein, Sr., and
Michael L. Leventhal (Hoyt and Schmidt 156). For many years, polycystic ovary
syndrome was called the Stein Leventhal syndrome . Once insulin resistance was
added to the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome the name of the syndrome then
changed to Syndrome X (Bhathena 106). Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition
that affects many different parts of the body, not just the ovaries. The list of ailments
associated with polycystic ovary syndrome is long, ranging from skin tags, dark skin
patches, and hirsutism (male patterned hair growth) to liver disease, obesity, and
insulin resistance. The symptoms that contribute to infertility are irregular menstrual
cycles, an excess of androgens, and chronic anovulation (Genazzani, Lanzoni and
Riccieri 139). Polycystic ovary syndrome is shortened to its acronym of PCOS by
the medical community and the women who have been diagnosed with it. Polycystic
ovary syndrome is predominant among reproductive women between the ages of 12
and 45 (Banning 635).
