The Child And The Shadow Summary
In the essay The Child and the Shadow, author Ursula LeGuin utilizes techniques of
Jungian psychology to connect the shadow of a young child to fantasy, and how this
specific genre could be used to further develop this part of humanity. The speech
begins with LeGuin summarizing a Hans Christian Andersen story about a man and
his shadow. The man, desiring to enter the House of Poetry, tells his shadow to go on
without him. His shadow departs from him, and both go their separate ways. Soon
after, however, the shadow returns and controls the man, eventually having him
killed. The purpose for the presence of this story is to tie literature and psychology
together, employing the Carl Jungs school of thought to describe the shadow and
the man. According to LeGuin, the shadow symbolizes what is repressed in the
man, while the man represents civility. If the man truly wishes to set foot in the
House of Poetry, the symbol for creativity, he must first acknowledge his shadow
as part of himself. Like the man, a child must develop their shadow if they ever
wish to reach their full potential. Ursula LeGuin s The Child and the Shadow puts
forth a thorough argument for the use of fantasy to develop a child s shadow and to
truly understand their inner beings in a way that does not damage their young and
undeveloped psyche. The use of fantasy to develop a child s shadow is at the center
of her argument. Fantasy is the medium best suited to a description of that [exploring

Similarities Between The American And French Revolution
Question A:
On July 4, 1776, fifty six men gathered in Philadelphia to sign the Declaration of
Independence. A few years later, on August 26, 1789, a similar gathering occurred in
France. This resulted in the signing of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and
Citizen. As discussed in the text, these two documents were the embodiment of
Enlightenment thinking. (Sayre 845). The Enlightenment was a time where one took
a rational, scientific, and logical approach to everything in life. In addition, this age
focused on the role of the individual in government. The earlier form of government
was focused on the divine right of kings. This is the idea that kings receive their
authority from God. However, writings produced by John Locke and Rousseau ...

However, one major difference was the reason that search began. As Sayre wrote, The
American Revolution was essentially the revolt of an upper class that felt
disenfranchised by its distant king, while the French Revolution was a revolt against
an absolute monarch whose abuse of power had disenfranchised his own people
(844). The American Revolution occurred after the end of the Seven Years War.
During the war, Britain helped the colonists defeat the French and thus they now
felt the colonists owed them. The British government sought repayment through a
series of taxes on various goods. Two well known examples of this included the tax
on tea, which lead to the Boston Tea Party, and the Stamp Act. In these cases, the
king did not give the colonists a say in the matter and was removed from the
colonists. This made it extremely hard for them to feel the king knew anything
about life in the colonies. On the contrary, the king of France was not removed
from his subjects. The problem in France was that King Louis XVI abused his
power as king. This caused a major problem with the national debt and led to the
lower class citizens running out of food for their
Deporting Illegal Immigrants
Deporting illegal immigrants is not going to help the United states economy by any
means, in fact, there would be no positive factors when it comes to impacting the
economy. Some people may assume that illegal immigrants in the United States are
not very well educated individuals, but that is not the case at all. Ryan Edwards, an
author of the National Bureau of EconomicsResearch, states, they re highly trained,
highly paid professionals, so their removal has a pretty large effect. (Ehrenfreund)
Not only do they help the United Stateseconomy, but they play a huge role in it as
well. The National Bureau did a study one year ago and they found, Immigrants living
illegally in the United States account for roughly 18 percent of employment
Racism In Midnight Without A Moon By Linda Williams
Jackson
Racism; a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races
determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one s
own race is superior and has the right to rule others. In the historical fiction novel,
Midnight Without a Moon, by Linda Williams Jackson, the author shows how
horribly blacks were treated when they tried to vote. The main character, Rose Lee
Carter, battles with understanding why blacks were facing such repercussions while
trying to fight for their rights. Levi Jackson, Reverend George W. Lee, and Lamar
Smith face several acts of racism while trying to vote, and because of this, they are
brutally murdered. However, the reader is left wondering if the punishments the
characters received actually occurred in real life. In Midnight Without a Moon, the
author uses history by including key details to emphasize how far whites were
willing to go in order to ensure that blacks wouldn t be allowed to vote, while at times
altering it to highlight the intense feelings Rose has over the situation.
In the novel, Midnight Without a Moon, thirteen year old Rose Lee Carter struggles
with racism in her town of Stillwater, Mississippi. During this time period, being
considered African American was a disadvantage in society because you weren t
given the same respect as white people. This was a challenge, because it violated basic
human rights, especially being allowed to vote. As a result of this, Rose encounters

The Importance Of Mass Communication
In today s society, worldwide communication is at the palm one s hands. In just
seconds, someone can send a message to someone halfway across the world with
very little effort. The mass use of this fast as light communication can cause one to
become so accustomed to it that they see it as the norm. Due to this exponential
increase in technology, it is easy to forget about how message were communicated
before there was any technology available to communicate with. Mass
communication traces back all the way to a time before even written languages had
been created. The root of all communication was storytelling. For people like the
Ancient Greeks, though, storytelling was much more than just a form of
communication. It was a form of art and entertainment. Some people s job was solely
to tell stories. Bards and minstrel were tasked with entertaining people, especially
royalty and the elite, with stories from the past. However, entertainment does not
express the true value of storytelling in Ancient Greece. The real reason storytelling
was so prominent is those time was because it was a form of survival. Storytelling as
a mode of survival is prominently seen in Homer s work, The Odyssey. The main
character, Odysseus, uses storytelling as a tactic to stay alive during his hero quest. In
many situations throughout the work, his skill at telling stories prevents him from
being killed and helps him get closer to returning to his home in Ithaca. Storytelling
was crucial to
Political Changes In Akhenaten
Along with his striking religious changes, Akhenaten also led a political revolution,
namely in the perception of the pharaoh. One of the most visible changes in
Akhenaten s reign was a drastic change in art. Public perception of the pharaoh was
essential to political power, but Akhenaten s portraits do not portray the pharaoh in
the larger than life style associated with other New Kingdom rulers. Firstly, Akhenaten
was feminine in appearance, and is shown affectionately playing with his children and
Nefertiti. Amarna art is realistic and Akhenaten chose to portray a reality no other
pharaoh had been willing to show. Nicholas Reeves explains these changes: In
Akhenaten s new look these striking changes in composition and gesture, which...

Religious life was tied to social life in every aspect, and the Egyptian year was
based around religious festivals. These festivals stopped under Atenism, and the
people of Egypt were introduced to a new tradition: the procession of Akhenaten
and Nefertiti mirroring the sun moving across the sky. However, this new tradition
was not capable of adequately replacing the traditions of the past: The festivals of
the past which had divided the year and provided the stops and starts which
powered day to day living were removed; and they do not seem to have been
replaced despite the fact, as Barry Kemp has observed that worship of the sun
provides a ready made set of calendrical feasts [in the form of] the solstices and
equinoxes. The progress of the king along the Royal Road, however splendidly
orchestrated, offered but a poor substitute. Egyptians lived their lives based around
the various festivals of their gods, and in removing these festivals, Akhenaten
removed a piece of culture he could not replace. Maat, the Egyptian concept of
order controlled by the pharaoh meant that every single part of daily life was
touched by the introduction of the new religion. Thebes, the cultural center of Egypt,
was abandoned by the pharaoh, and he moved life to Akhenaten. For Egyptians
outside of the city, what they experienced of Atenism was a loss of traditions they
had followed for generations, and these changes did not bode well for a long lasting
Similarities Between Chinese And Australian Economy
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to compare both Australian and Chinese economies.
China is one of Australia s closest trade neighbours, often referred to as the Sino
Australian relations. While Australia has a minute population of 23.9 million in
comparison to China s 1.357 billion its economic ranking is just as its population,
lower than China s. Both economies have various similarities and differences in areas
such as economic systems and historical events, economic growth, quality of life,
employment and unemployment, distribution of income, environmental
sustainability and, the role of government in health care, education and social welfare.
The following report will parallel and compare both economies in retrospect to the ...

The Environmental Performance index (EPI) gave Australia a score of 87.22 and a
rank of 13, whereas China achieved a score of 65.1 and a ranking of 109, this is
most probable as a result of China s environmental crisis due to rapid industrialisation.
Also, Australia s and China s Foreign Direct (FDI) and Gross Domestic Product
(GDP) growth saw huge declines during the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Both
economies, being highly export driven, especially China saw GDP declines from
2007 to 2008. Australia declined by 1.9% and China by 4.6%. Both economies also
experienced a huge fall in FDI Australia s FDI declining 24% from the previous
year and China s declining 36%. The huge economic decline and lack of confidence
in both economies raised the unemployment rate in Australia from 4.6% to 5.4% and
4% to 4.3% in China.
Quality of Life
Quality of life refers to the standard of living within a population. Quality of Life can
be quantified by the Human Development Index (HDI) which measures a country s
social and economic development out of 1.

Alex Grothendieck was born on March 28, 1928 in Berlin, Germany. He was one of
the famous mathematicians born in the 20th century. Alex began to love mathematics
in 1942, when he attended a secondary school in Chambon, France. When World
War II ended, he went to University of Montpellier, wanting to continue his
fascination with math and become a mathematics teacher. He received a scholarship
after three years in 1948 and moved to Paris, to the University of Nancy and worked
on functional analysis. In 1957, he began to work on algebraic geometry and simple

Grothendiecks parents moved away from him in 1933 to fight in the Spanish civil
war. That left him in Wilham, Heydorn. He later found out his father was living in
a concentration camp during World War II, while he was attending school. He
never heard anything more on his mother. (The Famous People website.) In the
mathematical years of Grothendiek, he did not face many challenges in his life.
One of the main reasons why he left IHES, was because of military funding
problems. After all, Grothendieck was the son of an antimilitarist anarchist and he
grew up very poor. This is why he grew up having compassion for the poor. He also
left because he got so tired which led to the problem of losing interest in what he
was teaching at IHES. By the late 1960 s, he became interested in science. David
Ruelle, a physician at IHES, claimed that Alex Grothendieck had come to him later
on asking him about the study of physics. (Astrology and Horoscope Website.) He
was also into talking about the war, politics, and the Military. He did agree to attend
lectures given about mathematics, but while he was there, he went into debates
about the war. All of his followers became irritated with him. He then wanted to
destroy everything he had ever written about math. (The Amazing Grothendiek.)

The European Economic Community
Ever since the treaty of Rome, the 6 members of the now European Economic
Community had been experiencing economic prosperity and a rapid development in
all areas of society.
Politically, the EEC aimed to reduce tensions in the aftermath of World War II. In
particular, it was hoped that integration would promote a lasting reconciliation of
France and Germany, thereby reducing the potential for war.
EEC governance required political cooperation among its members through formal
supranational institutions.
To reduce the risk of there being political separation (some groups supporting
communism, others supporting other ideas E.g. capitalism, Western Politics Etc.) the

With the construction of the berlin wall, Khrushchev confirmed that the GDR would
still be in existence. It also meant that Western powers would have to acknowledge
East Germany, pretty much ignoring the ideas in the Hallstein Doctrine. With people
unable to leave East Germany, it meant Ulbricht could develop a New economic
system which was supposedly meant to revolutionize the GDR S economy and gain
acceptance for socialism.
The Berlin wall shifted a large amount of focus onto Berlin and Europe. During this
time the EEC stayed relatively quite as they still were only involved with west berlin,
not east berlin.
The European Economic Community Turing into the European Community 1967.
Members revamped the organization several times in order to expand its policy
making powers and to revise its political structure. On July 1, 1967, the governing
bodies of the EEC, ECSC, and Euratom were merged. Through the Single European
Act , which entered into force in 1987, EEC members committed themselves to
remove all remaining barriers to a common market by 1992.
After the European Economic Community turned into the European Community in
1967, other countries soon joined. In 1973, the European community opened up and
let in a few more countries such as the United Kingdom, Denmark and Ireland (see

The Walking Dead By Timothy Morton
The Walking Dead, Timothy Morton s Hyperobjects and Lars Von Trier s film
Melancholia, all open with the end of the world as their starting points to begin
their narrative, aiming to demonstrate how the end of contemporary time, as
familiar to both the characters in the show, as well as Morton and Trier s audiences
(us), are forced to adapt, alter, and change the way in which we perceive the world,
and act in order to survive in our new conditions. The following essay, utilizing the
apocalyptic theme contained within all three works, will strive to illustrate how
certain global events which profoundly revamp the world in which we live, as seen in
all three abovementioned examples, work in shifting the motivations, ethical
groundings, and moral underpinnings of the world s inhabitants. More precisely, the
following thesis will aim to answer what it means to act ethically in a world that has
ended , or is always ending, and how the end of times powerfully permutes the innate
instincts, incentives, and concerns of all mankind.
Firstly, this essay will briefly offer a summarization of the Walking Dead, primarily
focused on the episode judge, jury, executioner , as well as some of the basic
tenants of Morton s thoughts in Hyperobjects, as well as the happenings in
Melancholia, in order to reveal how the show s writers, as well as Morton and Trier,
use the end of times to demonstrate the profoundly altered conditions in which the
apocalypse has produced, as well as how this

Endangered Species Essay
How would you feel if some of your favorite animals became extinct? Throughout
history animals have always struggled to survive. In recent years, many studies have
shown species are becoming extinct for different reasons. Some species endangered
status are created by competition with other species, natural disasters, diseases and
even human involvement. These endangered speciesshould be preserved because of
the effects it has on other animals, the significance of each animal on the ecosystem,
and because of the role humans take on their endangerment.
Some people might not know what an extinct species is or why it is important that a
species disappears. An extinct species is one that has completely died out; living
individuals of this kind no longer exist. By this definition the death of every
individual of that species is considered an extinction. This is a big issue for an entire
species to die out and no longer exist on this planet. And this is important because,
any endangered species is a threat to the natural balance of life on Earth. Every single
organism in an ecosystem depends on each other to survive. All the plants and
animals in the world are connected to each other in the web of life that holds them
together. With these statements people can have a better understanding of this
serious situation.
Each species lives in different environments so their endangerment may be cause by
different things. One example is that, Habitat destruction is a major cause of

The concept of dating has dramatically changed and in the 21 century s age of self

of dating the normal way, many Americans turn to online dating to find their partner.

Vertical Value Chain Benefits
Hosting your own in house vertical value chain has many benefits for a business
like ECCO. ECCO s many facilities in different countries can take advantage of
local resources and expertise in different areas like the leather research center in
Denmark. Another benefit is being able to oversee operations and produce products
faster. Inventory can be controlled efficiently, meaning that ECCO can wait longer to
produce items to match market mean due to how long it would take to place an order
with an outsourced manufacturer and to receive that order to deliver to customers.
Vertical Value Chain Cons
The main negative for ECCO in having an integrated vertical value chain is increased
costs over competitors. For most shoe companies, the cheapest option is to outsource
manufacturing, which is what most of ECCO s competitors have done. Another con
of keeping production within the company is that when no competition is present,
often production is slow and inefficient. Managing the cons is vital for ECCO, which
they have been able to do.

Hermia And Lysander Themes
Oberon is connected to some of the major themes of love in the play. The major
theme of course, being course of true love never did run smooth. And he is
connected to this theme in two different angles. One being with Titania. Both of them
are of course the fairy gods who, when they clash rip apart nature and ruin many a
humans lives. Imagine if they got along, but they don t. This is connected to how true
loves path isn t smooth, and this is particularly evident in their relationship. Another
way we can see how Oberon is connected to this theme is with his meddling in other
people s affairs. Such as when he creates the love juice and manufactures a situation
where Hermiaand Lysander s true love is broken apart seen in this example, when...

His love juice and its usage also shows another theme. Such as love is irrational.
When he uses his juice on Lysander, he also contributes to this theme when Lysander
springs up from his slumber and loves Helena seen here, Not Hermia, but Helena I
love (2.2 113). His sudden maturing and affection for Hermia which is of course is
due to Oberon s love juice, shows the theme of how love is irrational. With how
Lysander has loved Hermia, but all of a sudden loves Helena, and their is only one
explanation for it. And that is that love is an unexplainable thing with no
rationality whatsoever. The symbols I chose to represent the major themes Oberon
shows are hearts. One of the themes he shows is that love is irrational for this I
have the pi symbol inside of a heart. The heart more obviously represents love and
pi is the most famous example of an irrational number, therefore when pairing the
two together you get a symbol which represents one of the major themes in the play.
The other symbol I chose to represent the other theme Oberon contributes to which is

There are two types of aortic aneurysms thoracic and abdominal. Both can be

What is the life expectancy?
The life expectancy of affected individuals depends on their stage of retinoblastoma
and whether they were diagnosed early enough to receive treatment. Like other
cancers, lifespan can be reduced if patients develop second stage tumors and are not
treated quickly enough. Most often, death caused by retinoblastoma is rare because
patients are usually diagnosed as children can receive treatments that are very
effective.
What is the quality of life?
Living with retinoblastoma can be difficult, both physically and emotionally.
Children affected by retinoblastoma may experience poor vision and eye pain as well
as rapid involuntary eye movement. These symptoms can be very uncomfortable for
a young child. Further, the frequent treatments such as chemotherapy can be
inconvenient, and affected children often have lower self esteem as a result of their
Boston Bombing Report
On April 15, 2013, Boston s first attack on public citizens, in a long time. During
this attack 3 civilians were killed and later on there was an officer shot by the
suspect. There was also 264 people who were wounded during this time as well. All
this was caused by two bombs that went off on Boylston Street each at different parts
of the street. This was known as the BostonBombing. Hello I m Cameron Smith, our
country has many monuments and memorials, all dedicated to people or events
that would never be forgotten in America s history. On the dated listed above the
Boston Bombing happened, which affected many people who lived in America.
This is why I am proposing a new monument to honor all those people who risked
their lives to go save others who, were injured. This monument would also honor
those who lost their lives during this tragic accident. This monument would be built
in Boston, near where the bombs went off. As you can see on the rough sketch the
design shows seven people. Three of these people are injured, then we have four
different civilians who rushed in and are assisting the injured people. The max
height of people the people who are standing up will be 10 ft. They... Show more

the rock banner that goes across, there is the name of the officer who was shot and

Essay On Monty Python The Quest For The Holy Grail
Monty Python the Quest for the Holy Grail is a decently funny film mocking the
stories of knights, women, religion, and good vs. evil. So far through this first nine
weeks we have read and learned about the different but similar themes of Medieval
Literature. The Medieval times took place in England around 449 1489 A.D. The
way of life of the Medieval people s way of life is a whole different way of living
than what it is too me. They lived by the land and also raised their own farm
animals. They lived by the Feudal system, which is the ranks of the people. The
highest up were the Kings followed by the lords, and knights and with the lowest
rank were the peasants.
The code of chivalry emphasized bravery, military skill, generosity in victory, piety,
and courtesy to women. The film made fun of knights right toward the beginning
Monty Python the Quest for the Holy Grail. A knight is defined as a man who served
his sovereign or lord as a mounted soldier in armor. The film mocked on this

Evil played a big role in these noble quest in most if not all medieval literature. For
Beowulf it was the big and evil Grendel and his revenge seeking mother and the
treasure guarding dragon. Beowulf being a good night has the face the evil
monsters on theses noble quest to prove his knightly behavior. For Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight I believe it is still good and evil but Sir Gawain is not as honest
as a knight should be. Sir Gawain showed his bravery for Arthur when he stepped
up to take the challenge. The biggest thing that stuck to my mind in the film is the
scene with the black knight. This is good vs evil but both are knights. The black
night will not let the night pass without a fight. Even after the he loses a couple of
limbs the black knight still has the courage and bravery as a knight should, to fight

Examination of Delphi and Quasi-experimental Research
Designs
Research plays a vital role in more deeply understanding library science. Thoughtful
consideration of how evidence based research is conducted is essential to its
effective use. Research helps professionals identify and explore areas of concern or
interest in addition to providing possible solutions for known problems. The Delphi
and quasi experimental studies provide examples of researchperformed in library
science.
The Delphi Study The Delphi study was developed by The RAND Corporation in
the 1950s for the Air Force and was primarily used to forecast future events based on
expert opinions (Wildemuth, 2009). Delphi studies provide an alternative to the
traditional round table type discussion (Cypher Gant, 1971). The Delphi design ...

These numbers were identical for round three. In total, 268 books and 34 journals
were ranked with the top 100 representing items recommended for a core CME
library.
This study focused on gathering information on books from its expert panel and
does exemplify several areas of a Delphi study. First, the researchers nominated a
panel to recruit experts and make sure the instruments used were clear. To reduce
bias, any book or journal affiliated with a panel member was eliminated.
Demographics were noted by sub groups, and each panel member was asked to rate
his expertise. A minimum number of votes (10) was used as a cutoff for books
indicated as most helpful to novice learners. In addition, each panel member was
asked to waive anonymity with names published in the report. Forty three members
agreed.
The Quasi experimental Study A quasi experimental study is a subcategory of
experimental design where randomization of participants is not possible or not
needed (Wildemuth, 2009). These studies occur in natural settings when limited
control over the variables is possible. The independent variable (treatment) is
manipulated to see if a causal relationship exists (Haas Kraft, 1984). Naturally
occurring groups such as classes are generally used. The goal is to produce reliable
causal knowledge (Haas Kraft, p. 229). Internal and external validity are important to
this design. Internal validity is determined when
What Is The Theme Of Amigo Brothers
Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. ~Helen

Sex Offender Speech
Hello Ladies, I believe that a sex offender is a sex offender, from this course I have
learned there are multiple reasons a person may become a sex offender, it
typically isn t a decision made over night. Research has proved abusive behaviors
are instilled at a young age through child abuse, and/or are caused by mental health
problems. I understand that is not the reason in all cases, of course drugs and
alcohol play a factor too. The behaviors don t just appear or just go away, they may
lie dormant or present in a subtle way, but they exist. Sexual predators adapt to their
surroundings, so it doesn t matter if they are in the military or not, if they want to
commit a sexual assault they will. The military is predominately male, with extreme

considering a different way to go for a career option. There are many pluses when
you work in a traditional job, just as there are negatives. With your traditional job,
you are basically assured of receiving a paycheck every week. You go to work,
work your set hours and get paid for it. That suggests a certain amount of stability.
You know that paycheck will come so that you can pay your bills. That s the up
side of working a traditional job. Also with your traditional job, you may be in a
field you really enjoy. You could be a medical professional, working in a doctor s
office, or perhaps even in social work. Those types of jobs can be rewarding in
themselves, especially when you get to help people when you are working. That is
another good thing about working a regular job. But, when you think of it, there
are a lot of down sides too. Your 9 to 5 job may not offer you a lot of room for
advancement, which also means that your pay scale may be limited. You may not
earn enough in your traditional job

Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks
In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil
painting, is a 33 1/8th in. x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create
this piece. Currently this piece is located at the Art Institute of Chicago. In The
Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The buildings and diner
design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people
present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working
at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the
clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960.
After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an exact depiction of a
real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this painting,
there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene.
The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows.
Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting.
Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light
colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In
addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in
it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the
dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the street. This

The NBA season is well under way and there is one team who is surprising

they play in. Pistons star center Andre Drummond is off to a record start and
newcomer Marcus Morris may just be what us fantasy fans were looking for in a

to my fantasy roster, but I never believed that there would be a core four group of
players who would rock our world!

Marcus Morris, Small Forward
Morris has quickly fit right into his new home in Detroit and solidified his role on

per contest. Morris is second on the team in total minutes at 38.3 per contest, so he

Emotional Conflict In Agamemnon
All major characters are in these texts are facing a tough moment in their life and
this puts them in a difficult position where they feel uneasy. For example in
Agamemnon, Agamemnon s wife Helen is captured and claimed by a Trojan prince
and this causes a chaotic period of chaos and conflict. Agamemnon is in a tough
situation that is very distressful for him. Agamemnon s character is described as
someone who cannot uphold the role of the King of Argos and often hesitates to
make a decision which is the main reason why he is at such a distressing point of his
life. In Hamlet, the main protagonist, Hamlet, finds out that King Claudius was the

Their emotional battle against themselves has made it difficult for them to make wise

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock the author makes it clear that readers should
listen carefully and be wary of what Mr. Prufrock says. He showed the readers that
he has a strange personality that is not quite settled. His words confuse the readers
by saying one thing and another thing, both very difficult to make sense of. In
Hamlet, Hamlet says For there is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so,
(Hamlet, Act II, Sc. 2, 11) Hamlet feels that one can never really tell the truth, the
good, and the evil of the world, except through our own thoughts. His own character
captivates him while his inner turmoil and unpredictability causes him to question
himself, which means what he really is doing is questioning the true essence of a
human. Agamemnon suffered from similar feelings when put under a stressful crisis
in the battlefield. Although Agamemnon is a good man who is aware of the
importance of family order and a cohesive society, he has other traits that destabilize
his good qualities and contribute to self created

In 2005, my husband was forced to retire from a job at Georgia Pacific. This was a
job that he had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were
tearing for no reason that we knew of and he was having some other health
problems. It was very upsetting to both of us not knowing the outcome about his
health and now no income as well. We had seen many doctors on many different
occasions. We kept hitting a dead end. Finally, we were able to see a new doctor, a
neurologist, and after examining my husband, he immediately said to my husband,
you have McArdle s disease. It was a term that I was not familiar with at all. My
heart dropped and I was not sure what we were up against. Understanding the
limitations of a person with McArdle s disease is the best way to live with it.
What is McArdle s disease? It is a rare skeletal muscle disorder (Choleva, A.J. 2011).
1 in 100,000 persons is affected by the disease. The disease gets its name from Dr.

(sugar).
People who have McArdle s disease often appear lazy. Just to look at them, they
seem to be very healthy. In order for someone to have the disease both parents
would have to have the defective gene. This is called autosomal recessive

Emotional Intelligence For Biologists By Dr. Paulette
Laubsch
Abstract: This paper is based on the seminar topic Emotional Intelligence for
Biologists by Dr. Paulette Laubsch. Emotional Intelligence is the capacity to
understand one s feelings or others feelings. This differs from general intelligence
because it is a step further than taking known information and interpreting it to make
it useful; it is using emotions to make information beneficial and useful. The
following paragraphs will explore emotional intelligenceand how it affects people s
decision making and sociability with others.
Introduction: Emotional Intelligence is defined as an individual s ability to govern
their own emotions and the emotions of others (PsychologyToday). In order to be
emotionally intelligent, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the way someone comforts a person can be a result of cultural
aspects; some people use touching, while others opt to just talking. Dr. Laubsch
described the hierarchy of happiness, noting how everyone requires their basic
needs to be met in order to be happy and content. She also mentioned ways to be
emotionally intelligent, i.e. knowing when to deliver bad news (not on a Friday),
knowing who s vulnerable and who s not, and knowing how to read body language.
Lastly, she discussed empathy and how feeling for someone can impact emotional
intelligence. In order to properly understand emotional intelligence, more research
must be done. Many psychologists conducted experiments to explore how one s
capacity for emotional intelligence can affect the way they work with others,
especially in the health field.
Materials and Methods: One of the studies conducted was in Malaysian public
hospitals. Emotional intelligence was studied among nurses to see how it impacted
caring behavior. This was done by using a cross sectional survey and administering it
to five hundred and fifty nurses and using structured equation modeling to analyze the
data (Kaur 2015). Another study sought to examine the relationship between self
rated and performance measures of emotional intelligence by using tools such as the
Self Rated Emotional Intelligence scale (Bracket et al. 2006). This type of test

Rockefeller And George Eastman As A Captain Of Industry
John D. Rockefeller and George Eastman were captains of industry because they
were innovators and philanthropists. Rockefeller founded the Standard Oil company
that took over the oil industries and was the first United States business trusts.
Eastman founded a camera company soon to be called Kodak, and created roll film
for cameras. By this founding Rockefeller was able to give people ways to start

When Eastman started Kodiak and made roll film, families created memories and
gave people their favorite movies by the the roll film. Because the Standard oil
company was so popular, it led to other companies selling oil for less, like Mobil, and

Competition, efficiency, and stability in banking

Professor:
Competition, efficiency, and stability in banking
1.0 Introduction
1.1. Background of the study
Management of credit risk in financial institutions is a core concern for policy
makers, practitioners, and regulators, particularly from the start of the fiscal crisis. A
singled out driving force of financial unsteadiness is too much competition in the
financial sector. As a result, special attention has been received since the beginning of
the financial crisis (Sealey Lindley, p.2009). Interested stakeholders have produced
studies that investigate the relationship between competition, efficiency, and stability.
The academic writing is yet to arrive at an agreement over these conflicting
narratives. However, recent theory and proof are pointing towards a positive outcome
of competition on bank stability (Schaeck Cih?k, 2013, p.111). On the contrary,
conventional literature stipulates that growing competition erodes character values
that eventually yield a negative trade off between competition, efficiency, and
stability in the banking sector.
This research will, therefore, revisit the debate empirically, and bring up the question
of mechanisms that makes competition contribute to bank stability as stated in recent
studies. In spite of its significance for policy and regulation, the mechanism of
transmission has remained an
Modern Day Hockey
Hockey started in about the 16th century where Europeans played a form of field
hockey. People may argue that Alexander Cartwright or Abner Doubleday is the
creator of the game. However , it is impossible to list the man responsible. The
origin of the name hockey has been a large debate, and nobody has been able to say
with complete accuracy how it came about. The introduction of modern day hockey

Felicia Hendrix Letter
I do not understand why Felicia Hendrix, Probation Officer Manager would
encourage an employee to write a letter making false statements, defaming my
character of being a racist so that she can gain supervision of training Ms. Amibeth
Grandy. This is a form of retaliation, hatred blatantly toward me. These allegations are
extremely hurtful. I treat everyone the same regardless of their gender, raceor
nationality with professionalism and fairness.
1.I have heard through the gossip mill and Doreen Wyche that Felicia Hendrix told
Ambeth Grandy to write a letter regarding her probationary period review and before

Review on Mrs Trollope s Domestic Manners of Americans
Essay
Mrs. Trollope depicts her seemingly pleasurable exploration in America with
caricature which grounded on the constantly comparison between the American
domestic life with her own experience in Europe with pretension. I have to say that
to some extent, this is good travel narrative full of exaggerated anecdotes rather than
real description of Domestic manners of the Americans as the reader expected. Mrs.
Trollope amused herself largely by sneering at the system of new nation America and
its people and enjoyed her ascendency over the folly Americans. Why did she show
such scornful attitude to American style?
The first reason I assume is that she was so eager to settle down in America to start
her new life with her children there. Her real ... Show more content on

Similarly, Mrs. Trollope s fortune did not grow rapidly as she wished, which make
her more resentful to American so called free political institutions .
As Mrs. Trollope failed to fulfill her previous dream before she left for America
here. She has to enjoy it. And she did trying to find some follies of Americans to
laugh at. Meanwhile she found some poor people to show her sympathy to make
herself believe that she is still leading a better life over those wretched people.
Mrs. Trollope amused herself with coming through the Phrenological society s
ephemeral fate on the 3rd day when subscriptions were expected to be paid. She
shows great contempt on Miss Wright s ridiculous conception on giving the blacks
equal education to prove the human are equal. Could this fact be once fully
established, she conceived that the Negro cause would stand on firmer ground
than it had yet done, and the degraded rank which they have ever held amongst
civilized nations would be proved to be a gross injustice. (Chapter 2) For example,
Mrs. Trollope is trying to convince us that she is just a traveler. And Mrs. Trollope

will feel the more contented with our own town (Chapter 5) Moreover Mrs. Trollope

Colonial Culture And Spanish Influence During The
Colonial...
During the colonial era, directly after the US Civil War, the European empires were
absolute authorities in Southeast Asia. Spanish influence during this time was
centralized in the Philippines. The geography of the region rendered the Philippines
vulnerable to international manipulation and political dissolution. Because the
islands make political unity difficult, they have been targeted by empires, and
manipulated oppressive politics. Divisions in the Philippines cross many boundaries.
Race, class, religion, and geography all fed into international politics that heavily
shaped foreign influence on the island nation. The first organized religion that came
to the Philippines was Islam. This created one of the first great cultural chasms
among the islands. When the Spanish landed on the shores, Roman Catholicism
spread like wildfire. As adopted as it was, Catholicism was much more on the
influential in the north, while the southern islands still mostly practiced Native
religions or Islam. During this time, the languages used to promote these various
religions varied from the indigenous languages, Spanish, Latin, Arabic, and hundreds
more. This only served to drive wedges between the population. Topping off the list
for fissures in communication, a universal language was never imposed on the
Philippines. This meant that the majority of Filipinos never learned a word of
spanish, even at the height of the empire. This arguably caused a collapse in tradition

Descriptive Essay On The Airport Trip
Damn, the thickness in the air is definitely enough to make this long sleeve teeshirt
stick to my sweaty back. I walk down the steps from the plane, onto the Tarmac,
feeling less than official. You usually imagine what ambassadors, or celebrities
look like as they freshly arrive to a new country to experience local life. It s like
they re spritzed with Evian, and powdered upon deplaning. That clearly is not the
case with how much of a hot mess I look. When you re an Average Jo, you simply
look like you stepped off an economy flight, slightly frightened from turbulence,
with stiff legs caused by the borderline illegal parameters of legroom (or lack there
of) you were allotted Crisp air finally hits my skin as we walk through one of the
fanciest airports I ve seen. Marrakech, who knew you did it so big with the
terminal design? My happiness of the spacious airport entrance is quickly halted
when I notice how massive the immigration line is. We snail down at least four
long turns, admiring the fact there are diverse people entering a country we knew
we d stick out in. Maybe we wouldn t be so foreign. 30 minutes of switching the
weight of my legs back and forth, and attempting to connect to the failing free
airport wifi, I finally get past the immigration officer, who barely glanced at my face,
and stamped my passport. Score, another stamp to add to the book of experiences.

Kicker, a 3 year old boy, who has never been to a doctor, never received any type of
shot or poke, eaten a clean, nutrient dense diet throughout his short three years and
never had anything toxic on his skin, was sitting in the cold hospital room waiting
for news of a diagnosis. Nurses came in and out of the waiting room, bringing in
needles, advice, paperwork and machines. All of which were intimidating to a 3 year
old and his mother, Season, who happened to be a holistic nutritionist. A nurse came
into the waiting room and informed Season that an Oncologist needed to speak with
her. At that moment, Season began holding her jaw tight to fight back the tears
knowing that Oncologist specialized in cancer. Unfortunately, the Oncologist... Show

While Season felt completely broken down, she knew that she had no choice but to
bring her background in nutrition to her own home. To build Kicker s immunity
Season implemented The Ketogenic Diet. The human body produces cancerous cells
daily, so building a strong immunity is imperative when fighting off cancer cells and
the harsh chemicals from treatment. The Ketogenic Diet is a new cancer treatment,
which is free, with virtually no side effects. It can also be conjoined with other cancer
treatments. The diet involves cutting carbohydrates, beginning with the worst
carbohydrate of all, sugar (Johnson L, 2013). It is a high fat, adequate protein, low
carbohydrate diet. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.
Normally the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which
are then transported around the body. However, if there are little carbohydrates in
the diet then the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. Ketone bodies
are water molecules that are produced when the body is consuming very little food,
which mimics fasting. Cancer is an obligate glucose metabolizer because it fuels on
sugar. One s normal cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from saving glucose
by using ketone bodies (Johnson S, 2014). This addressed that because cancer

Love in A.S. Byatt s Possession, Zadie Smith s White Teeth, and the Full Monty by
Peter Cuttaneo
As British literature and film seek to sort out the identity crisis that England finds
herself in as a post imperial nation, a variety of views have emerged concerning
solutions for Britain s confusion. One reoccurring theme to these views is love. A.S.
Byatt s Possession, Zadie Smith s White Teeth, and The Full Monty, directed by Peter
Cattaneo, all deal with a traditional, romantic view of true love, whether it is
presented as a necessity or a dispensable ideal. While Possession and The Full Monty
show romantic love as an essential part of what will push Britain towards
rejuvenation, White Teeth presents romanceas something that can ... Show more

love, just like LaMotte and Ash s, is never about the physical, self gratification that
some relationships are. They learn each other; they grow to appreciate each other.
Eventually, Roland, who up to this point lives a boring, emasculated life, not unlike
the British living in a Thatcher era, taking his thrills vicariously through Ash as he
studies his works, is able to feel something on his own, something passionate, as he
tells Maud, I love you.... In the worst way. All things we we grew up not believing
in. Total obsession, night and day. When I see you, you look alive, and everything
else fades. All that (Byatt 550). Roland is telling her that the ideal love that of
fairytales that one grows bitter to is attainable. Through his realization of true love,
Roland is able to finally regain his masculinity and consummate their love. Byatt ends
this scene, and, thus, the book, describing the next morning. She writes:
In the morning, the whole world had a strange new smell. It was the smell of the
aftermath, a green smell, a smell of shredded leaves and oozing resin, of crushed
wood and splashed sap, a tart smell, which bore
Paradaise Lost by John Milton Essay
PART ONE:
John Milton is the greatest poet of all time. Oddly enough, he wanted to be as
great as Homer or Virgil and be remembered like they were. Milton had this thing
called Photographic Memory, so he remembered everything he had ever read. He
even spends six straight years just reading every book he could get his hands on.
However, he ended up becoming blind because when he did read the only lighting
he had was candle light so he literally read his eyes out. Yet, this was before he
could do something great, so he rounded up his daughters and he had him write
down an epic poem he had written in his head. This poem his daughters penciled
down for him is known as Paradise Lost, a poem about the story of Adam and Eve
from the Bible. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some say that they should start another war, while others want to make a heaven
out of hell and remain at peace. All that they knew is that they didn t want to go
back to Heaven because they felt it was, Better to reign in Hell, than Serve in Heav
n (Book 1, pg. 12, lines 263). Another option that was brought up was when they
heard the news of a new planet that God had created, Earth that has been inhabited
with humans. Satan immediately wants to check this place out, so he flies off to
Eden. All of these events are a part of Theodicy starting with how God had
banished Satan and his followers because they had rebelled against him making this
action of his justifiable. This draws to the conclusion that if people do bad deeds,
there will be consequences. However this still doesn t answer the question on why
good people are sometimes punished with disease and illnesses. Another key part of
theodicy from Paradise Lost is explained in the events that happen in the Garden of
Eden. This is the place on Earth that has just been created by God. It contains every
single animal in pairs as well as Adam and Eve, the first humans ever to exist.
Adam was created before Eve and desired a partner, so God made Eve out of one
of Adam s ribs. They tend garden and are given eternal life; yet, there s a catch, they
must not under any circumstances eat from the Tree of Knowledge or the Tree of
Life. Mitchell validates this observation, To replace
Safety Statement And Risk Assessment
Employees who works in the care homes performs physically exhausting activities
such as lifting heavy loads, working in awkward positions when assisting and
transferring residents. Increase exposure to hazardous conditions increases working
injury rates (Trinkoff, Johantgen, Muntaner, Le, 2005).
In relation to stairs and steps, both ascending and descending can be hazardous.
Descending stairs may be more likely to cause accidents and these accidents may
result in more serious injuries. As well as stairs and steps, ramps and kerbs must be
considered (HSA, 2016).
SAFETY STATEMENT AND RISKASSESSMENT| SECTION 19 AND 20
In a healthcare sector where the purpose of the organisation itself is to provide care
and health security to their residents, a safety statement and risk assessment is
mandatory not only for residents but employees and anyone who have come in and
out of the workplace premises. In Mary s case the safety committee and the
management have failed to follow the 2005 Act and General Application Regulations
2007 in developing a safety statement which includes a written risk assessment that is
reviewed and kept up to date (HSA, 2012).
Safety statement specify how the health and safety of employees are secured and
managed. Concerning health and safety it will include:
A policy that states the employers commitment in providing a safe place of work.
Duties of the employers and employees.
Guidelines for employees consultation and communication of health and safety

everyone was old and stupid (317). The society was divided in two parts. Some of

Everything you want is just outside your comfort zone

2)Structural Tension
Structural tension is a type of mechanism in our brain from perspective of
psychology. We need to list our main goals in a separate book called goal book.
Then, we need to read it everyday and make it as habit or discipline. This will
activate our power of desire. When our power of desire increases, our brain closes
the gap between the current reality and the vision of our goal.

Essay about Sam Phillips, the Father of Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll has come a long way since 1952 when music business icon Sam
Phillips created it. Sam Phillips is considered the father of Rock and Roll. He went
against the social normality of segregated music, and produced music that he felt
should be made. Even when faced with career ending criticism, Phillips continued on
making history. Not only is Sam Phillipsresponsible for the being the origin of the
seemingly everlasting Rock and Rollmovement, he segregated music amidst all kinds
of cultural disruption with civil rights. Sam Phillips is considered a musical
revolutionary who, despite adversity, changed the world forever.

Elvis Presley was signed to Sun Records in 1954. This was monumental for
Phillips s stand on racial boundaries in music. Elvis drew national attention to Sun
Records which, in part, sparked slight popularity for other Sun artists such as
Howlin Wolf, B.B. King, and Roscoe Gordon (Sun Records 1). This point in time
is known as the origin of Rock and Roll. Contrary to what Rock and Roll is now, it
was only popular within a certain demographic of people for a long time
Furthermore, Sun Records and Sam Phillips went under fire by local radio stations
and parents everywhere. Phillips s creation, Rock and Roll, caused an outrage. It
was seen as provocative towards young people, which was its most popular
demographic. Music from artists such as Elvis, King, and Gordon were banned from
radio stations and televisions (Impact of Rock Roll on USA 5). Criticism from other
well known music moguls didn t stop Sam. Nevertheless, Phillips kept on putting out
influential, black music. Despite the hardening Civil Rights movement in the 1950 s,
songs by African Americanartists slowly became extremely popular. In 1958, the
first black artist reached the top of the billboard hot 100. This marked the climax of
Phillip s goal to make popular music from an unpopular race. Sam Phillips s
persistence on creating popular black records and the equality protests go hand in
hand. The exposure of the protests and music gave new
Essay On Foster Home
A Whole Different World
Picture going to a house where eleven or twelve other kids live and you have to
share a room with three of those kids. You have no personal space or somewhere to
go if you want to be alone. Most likely you didn t get to take any of your personal
belongings with you besides your clothes, but why would you want to take any
personal belongings? Chances are they ll get stolen by another kid in the home.
The foster parents are probably just in it for the money so they don t care if your
things get taken. Also picture going to a new school where you know no one. We
wonder why foster kids age out and why no one wants to adopt them. It s because
the homes these kids do go to are abusive or don t give these kids enough support.
Everyone needs someone. Whether you want to accept it or not. You need someone
who you can vent to and someone you can go to with a problem. Kids in the foster
care system most likely have no one Don t get me wrong, I know there can be good

Humpa Lahiri The Namesake Themes
humpa Lahiri s The Namesake explores the expectations bestowed upon Gogol
Ganguli by his immigrant Bengali parents Ashoke and Ashima. We are first
introduced to Ashima, who is pregnant with Gogol, in a very foreign Cambridge,
Massachusetts. The family does their best to adapt to American culture without
infringing on their own. The birth and cultural naming of Gogol is the starting point
of his identity crisis. It was the duty of Ashima s grandmother to choose the name of
their child but, due to unfortunate circumstances, they hadn t received the letter
containing the name in time to release the baby from the hospital. Ashoke is the one
who names his sonafter Nikolai Gogol, a famous Russian author and the savior of
Ashoke s life during a train accident when he was younger. This scene is important

Colin Powell s 18 Leadership Principals
General (USA Ret) Colin L. Powell s 18 Leadership Principals
During his distinguished military career, General Colin Powell exemplified what
it means to be a great leader. In a briefing given to the Outreach To America
Program, General Powell outlined 18 principals that all leaders should strive to
encompass. After reviewing his brief, three of these principals stuck out Being
responsible sometimes means pissing people off , The day soldiers stop bringing
you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them and Perpetual optimism
is a force multiplier . These three principals resonate with my personal experiences in
the military and in leadership.
The first principal, Being responsible sometimes means pissing people off , is
something that I struggled with early in my military career. I was eager to prove
myself and accomplish missions assigned to me at any cost. As my career progressed
and I had soldiers assigned to me, I realized that being a yes man is not always the
responsible choice. When the safety and welfare of others is put in to your hands you
must put your own ambitions aside and consider the big picture. Specifically, in my

They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do
not care. Either case is a failure of leadership. I have encountered a few cases of
toxic leadership during my career and this warning sign was present in each of
those units. As a leader I make it my personal mission to create a culture in which
soldier s feel comfortable and confident enough in me as their leader to bring forth
their problems. It is important as a leader to focus on the big picture but also not
lose sight of soldier care. At the end of the day, you cannot accomplish the mission
by yourself, soldiers are the ones who execute

  • 2. The Child And The Shadow Summary In the essay The Child and the Shadow, author Ursula LeGuin utilizes techniques of Jungian psychology to connect the shadow of a young child to fantasy, and how this specific genre could be used to further develop this part of humanity. The speech begins with LeGuin summarizing a Hans Christian Andersen story about a man and his shadow. The man, desiring to enter the House of Poetry, tells his shadow to go on without him. His shadow departs from him, and both go their separate ways. Soon after, however, the shadow returns and controls the man, eventually having him killed. The purpose for the presence of this story is to tie literature and psychology together, employing the Carl Jungs school of thought to describe the shadow and the man. According to LeGuin, the shadow symbolizes what is repressed in the man, while the man represents civility. If the man truly wishes to set foot in the House of Poetry, the symbol for creativity, he must first acknowledge his shadow as part of himself. Like the man, a child must develop their shadow if they ever wish to reach their full potential. Ursula LeGuin s The Child and the Shadow puts forth a thorough argument for the use of fantasy to develop a child s shadow and to truly understand their inner beings in a way that does not damage their young and undeveloped psyche. The use of fantasy to develop a child s shadow is at the center of her argument. Fantasy is the medium best suited to a description of that [exploring the
  • 3. Similarities Between The American And French Revolution Question A: On July 4, 1776, fifty six men gathered in Philadelphia to sign the Declaration of Independence. A few years later, on August 26, 1789, a similar gathering occurred in France. This resulted in the signing of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. As discussed in the text, these two documents were the embodiment of Enlightenment thinking. (Sayre 845). The Enlightenment was a time where one took a rational, scientific, and logical approach to everything in life. In addition, this age focused on the role of the individual in government. The earlier form of government was focused on the divine right of kings. This is the idea that kings receive their authority from God. However, writings produced by John Locke and Rousseau ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, one major difference was the reason that search began. As Sayre wrote, The American Revolution was essentially the revolt of an upper class that felt disenfranchised by its distant king, while the French Revolution was a revolt against an absolute monarch whose abuse of power had disenfranchised his own people (844). The American Revolution occurred after the end of the Seven Years War. During the war, Britain helped the colonists defeat the French and thus they now felt the colonists owed them. The British government sought repayment through a series of taxes on various goods. Two well known examples of this included the tax on tea, which lead to the Boston Tea Party, and the Stamp Act. In these cases, the king did not give the colonists a say in the matter and was removed from the colonists. This made it extremely hard for them to feel the king knew anything about life in the colonies. On the contrary, the king of France was not removed from his subjects. The problem in France was that King Louis XVI abused his power as king. This caused a major problem with the national debt and led to the lower class citizens running out of food for their
  • 4. Deporting Illegal Immigrants Deporting illegal immigrants is not going to help the United states economy by any means, in fact, there would be no positive factors when it comes to impacting the economy. Some people may assume that illegal immigrants in the United States are not very well educated individuals, but that is not the case at all. Ryan Edwards, an author of the National Bureau of EconomicsResearch, states, they re highly trained, highly paid professionals, so their removal has a pretty large effect. (Ehrenfreund) Not only do they help the United Stateseconomy, but they play a huge role in it as well. The National Bureau did a study one year ago and they found, Immigrants living illegally in the United States account for roughly 18 percent of employment
  • 5. Racism In Midnight Without A Moon By Linda Williams Jackson Racism; a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one s own race is superior and has the right to rule others. In the historical fiction novel, Midnight Without a Moon, by Linda Williams Jackson, the author shows how horribly blacks were treated when they tried to vote. The main character, Rose Lee Carter, battles with understanding why blacks were facing such repercussions while trying to fight for their rights. Levi Jackson, Reverend George W. Lee, and Lamar Smith face several acts of racism while trying to vote, and because of this, they are brutally murdered. However, the reader is left wondering if the punishments the characters received actually occurred in real life. In Midnight Without a Moon, the author uses history by including key details to emphasize how far whites were willing to go in order to ensure that blacks wouldn t be allowed to vote, while at times altering it to highlight the intense feelings Rose has over the situation. In the novel, Midnight Without a Moon, thirteen year old Rose Lee Carter struggles with racism in her town of Stillwater, Mississippi. During this time period, being considered African American was a disadvantage in society because you weren t given the same respect as white people. This was a challenge, because it violated basic human rights, especially being allowed to vote. As a result of this, Rose encounters many
  • 6. The Importance Of Mass Communication In today s society, worldwide communication is at the palm one s hands. In just seconds, someone can send a message to someone halfway across the world with very little effort. The mass use of this fast as light communication can cause one to become so accustomed to it that they see it as the norm. Due to this exponential increase in technology, it is easy to forget about how message were communicated before there was any technology available to communicate with. Mass communication traces back all the way to a time before even written languages had been created. The root of all communication was storytelling. For people like the Ancient Greeks, though, storytelling was much more than just a form of communication. It was a form of art and entertainment. Some people s job was solely to tell stories. Bards and minstrel were tasked with entertaining people, especially royalty and the elite, with stories from the past. However, entertainment does not express the true value of storytelling in Ancient Greece. The real reason storytelling was so prominent is those time was because it was a form of survival. Storytelling as a mode of survival is prominently seen in Homer s work, The Odyssey. The main character, Odysseus, uses storytelling as a tactic to stay alive during his hero quest. In many situations throughout the work, his skill at telling stories prevents him from being killed and helps him get closer to returning to his home in Ithaca. Storytelling was crucial to
  • 7. Political Changes In Akhenaten Along with his striking religious changes, Akhenaten also led a political revolution, namely in the perception of the pharaoh. One of the most visible changes in Akhenaten s reign was a drastic change in art. Public perception of the pharaoh was essential to political power, but Akhenaten s portraits do not portray the pharaoh in the larger than life style associated with other New Kingdom rulers. Firstly, Akhenaten was feminine in appearance, and is shown affectionately playing with his children and Nefertiti. Amarna art is realistic and Akhenaten chose to portray a reality no other pharaoh had been willing to show. Nicholas Reeves explains these changes: In Akhenaten s new look these striking changes in composition and gesture, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Religious life was tied to social life in every aspect, and the Egyptian year was based around religious festivals. These festivals stopped under Atenism, and the people of Egypt were introduced to a new tradition: the procession of Akhenaten and Nefertiti mirroring the sun moving across the sky. However, this new tradition was not capable of adequately replacing the traditions of the past: The festivals of the past which had divided the year and provided the stops and starts which powered day to day living were removed; and they do not seem to have been replaced despite the fact, as Barry Kemp has observed that worship of the sun provides a ready made set of calendrical feasts [in the form of] the solstices and equinoxes. The progress of the king along the Royal Road, however splendidly orchestrated, offered but a poor substitute. Egyptians lived their lives based around the various festivals of their gods, and in removing these festivals, Akhenaten removed a piece of culture he could not replace. Maat, the Egyptian concept of order controlled by the pharaoh meant that every single part of daily life was touched by the introduction of the new religion. Thebes, the cultural center of Egypt, was abandoned by the pharaoh, and he moved life to Akhenaten. For Egyptians outside of the city, what they experienced of Atenism was a loss of traditions they had followed for generations, and these changes did not bode well for a long lasting

The following essay, utilizing the apocalyptic theme contained within all three works, will strive to illustrate how certain global events which profoundly revamp the world in which we live, as seen in all three abovementioned examples, work in shifting the motivations, ethical groundings, and moral underpinnings of the world s inhabitants. • 30. Edward Hopper Painted The Night Hawks In 1942, American artist Edward Hopper painted The Night Hawks. This oil painting, is a 33 1/8th in. x 60 in. piece. Hopper used oil paint on canvas, to create this piece. Currently this piece is located at the Art Institute of Chicago. In The Night Hawks, a city diner is depicted sometime at night. The buildings and diner design, are consistent with a city setting. Within the diner, there are 4 people present. Three of these people appear to be customers, while the other is working at the diner. There are three men present in the picture, and one woman. Due to the clothes they are wearing, we know that this diner is set sometime before 1960. After looking at the painting, I believe that this is either an exact depiction of a real life diner, or the painting was inspired by a real life diner. Within this painting, there are many different elements of design that Hopper uses to create this scene. The first element of design within this painting is, the use of light and shadows. Hopper uses light and shadows, to create the visual of nighttime within the painting. Within the restaurant, very bright colors are used to create the walls. Using light colors in this way, makes it appear as if the walls of the diner are reflecting light. In addition, the countertop within the diner appears to be glossy, and has reflections in it. This effect also aids in making the illusion of light within the diner. Outside of the dinner, light can be seen on the buildings across the street. This

This was a job that he had been working at for thirty three years. The muscles in his arms were tearing for no reason that we knew of and he was having some other health problems. Emotional Intelligence is the capacity to understand one s feelings or others feelings. Dr. Laubsch described the hierarchy of happiness, noting how everyone requires their basic needs to be met in order to be happy and content. She also mentioned ways to be emotionally intelligent, i.e. knowing when to deliver bad news (not on a Friday), knowing who s vulnerable and who s not, and knowing how to read body language. Lastly, she discussed empathy and how feeling for someone can impact emotional intelligence. In order to properly understand emotional intelligence, more research must be done. Many psychologists conducted experiments to explore how one s capacity for emotional intelligence can affect the way they work with others, especially in the health field. Materials and Methods: One of the studies conducted was in Malaysian public hospitals. Emotional intelligence was studied among nurses to see how it impacted caring behavior. This was done by using a cross sectional survey and administering it to five hundred and fifty nurses and using structured equation modeling to analyze the data (Kaur 2015). Another study sought to examine the relationship between self rated and performance measures of emotional intelligence by using tools such as the Self Rated Emotional Intelligence scale (Bracket et al. 2006). Background of the study Management of credit risk in financial institutions is a core concern for policy makers, practitioners, and regulators, particularly from the start of the fiscal crisis. A singled out driving force of financial unsteadiness is too much competition in the financial sector. As a result, special attention has been received since the beginning of the financial crisis (Sealey Lindley, p.2009). Interested stakeholders have produced studies that investigate the relationship between competition, efficiency, and stability. The academic writing is yet to arrive at an agreement over these conflicting narratives. However, recent theory and proof are pointing towards a positive outcome of competition on bank stability (Schaeck Cih?k, 2013, p.111). On the contrary, conventional literature stipulates that growing competition erodes character values that eventually yield a negative trade off between competition, efficiency, and stability in the banking sector. This research will, therefore, revisit the debate empirically, and bring up the question of mechanisms that makes competition contribute to bank stability as stated in recent studies. In spite of its significance for policy and regulation, the mechanism of transmission has remained an

Race, class, religion, and geography all fed into international politics that heavily shaped foreign influence on the island nation. Another option that was brought up was when they heard the news of a new planet that God had created, Earth that has been inhabited with humans. Satan immediately wants to check this place out, so he flies off to Eden. All of these events are a part of Theodicy starting with how God had banished Satan and his followers because they had rebelled against him making this action of his justifiable. This draws to the conclusion that if people do bad deeds, there will be consequences. However this still doesn t answer the question on why good people are sometimes punished with disease and illnesses. Another key part of theodicy from Paradise Lost is explained in the events that happen in the Garden of Eden. This is the place on Earth that has just been created by God. In 1958, the first black artist reached the top of the billboard hot 100. This marked the climax of Phillip s goal to make popular music from an unpopular race. Sam Phillips s persistence on creating popular black records and the equality protests go hand in hand. The exposure of the protests and music gave new

You have no personal space or somewhere to go if you want to be alone. Most likely you didn t get to take any of your personal belongings with you besides your clothes, but why would you want to take any personal belongings? Chances are they ll get stolen by another kid in the home. The foster parents are probably just in it for the money so they don t care if your things get taken. Also picture going to a new school where you know no one. We wonder why foster kids age out and why no one wants to adopt them. You need someone who you can vent to and someone you can go to with a problem.
