1. Population Growth Essay
Writing an essay on population growth is a challenging task that requires a comprehensive
understanding of various disciplines such as demography, sociology, economics, and
environmental science. Addressing this topic involves delving into complex issues, ranging from
the impact of population growth on resources and the environment to its implications for socio-
economic development.
To begin with, gathering accurate and up-to-date data on global population trends and regional
variations can be a time-consuming process. The sheer volume of statistical information and the
need for precision make it essential to sift through numerous sources and verify the reliability of
the data.
The essay must not only present facts but also analyze the causes and consequences of
population growth. This requires a nuanced understanding of social, economic, and political
factors that contribute to both rapid and slow population growth in different regions. Balancing
the presentation of these factors while maintaining objectivity can be challenging.
Furthermore, addressing the ethical considerations surrounding population growth, such as
reproductive rights, access to family planning, and the potential for coercion, adds another layer
of complexity to the essay. Engaging with diverse perspectives and navigating through the moral
dimensions of the topic demands careful consideration and critical thinking.
Crafting a coherent structure for the essay is another hurdle. Ensuring a logical flow of ideas,
from introducing the issue to presenting arguments and supporting evidence, requires skillful
organization. It is crucial to avoid information overload while providing sufficient depth to
convey a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
Lastly, synthesizing all the information into a clear and compelling narrative is essential. The
essay should not only inform but also engage the reader, making a persuasive case for the chosen
perspective on population growth.
In conclusion, writing an essay on population growth is a formidable task that demands
meticulous research, analytical thinking, ethical awareness, and effective communication skills. It
is a journey through data, theories, and debates, requiring the writer to navigate the complexities
of a multifaceted topic.

2. The Conflict Between Islamic State And The European...
One of the main problems among the people in the early history was civilians
limited access to information about other nations. This lack of knowledge caused
people to look blindly to their leaders as their only source of information. During
the crusaders, the political conflict between the Islamic state and the European
Christians caused the truth regarding Christians and Muslims identities to be
distorted. Scholars had an overwhelming power of shaping people s perception of
the outside world, which helped spreading Muslims and Christian s stereotypes. In
Muslims on Christians, Usama ibn Munqidh described the European Christians,
also known as the Franks, from his own perspective, which suggested that
Christians are animals. He justified his opinion by telling his experiences with the
franks. On the other side, European Christian scholars also criticized Muslims. In A
History of Deeds Done Beyond the Sea, William of Tyre described Muslims as the
descendants of Satan, who spread their teachings using violence. William supported
his perspective by providing some historical background of Muslims. Comparing the
two sources can allow the reader to visualize the Muslimand Christian relationship
during the crusaders also known as the holy wars . While reading the two sources, it
is important to realize that the political conflict between Muslims and Christians
influenced their opinions, but did this conflict make each source a reliable one for
factual evidences? If these
3. Who Is Anne Shirley A Dynamic Character
Both Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery and Indian Horse by Richard
Wagamese focus on the troubled past of the protagonist characters, and the influence
their personal histories have on the growth and development of the individuals as
they enter adulthood and come to terms with themselves. A great milestone in the
transition between childhood and adulthood is self acceptance, and learning from
your past. Anne of Green Gablestells the story of Anne Shirley, a young romanticist
who struggles to find balance between her lively imagination and the realities of
growing up. Anne finds herself in all sorts of trouble as she tries to adjust in her new
home, and is often challenging the world around her. However, as Anne matures with
age, she begins to embrace the qualities that make her unique, and... Show more

Anne retreats to her imagination to create a dream world, which often acts as a
contrast to the environment she lives in. Upon entering Avonlea, Anne s daydreams
and fantasies often pull her away from reality, and she struggles to understand the
social normalities and expectations within her community. Even in Anne s earliest
days at Green Gables, the reader gets a sense of her fanciful and dramatic character.
Throughout the novel, she often expresses her distaste in her appearance; and is
especially wordy when discussing her bright red hair, I could endure anything if I
only thought my hair would be a handsome auburn when I grew up. It would be so
much easier to be good if one s hair was a handsome auburn, don t you think? (page
65). One of Anne Shirley s most defining traits is her use of playful language. When
discussing aspects of her life which she finds displeasing, she will re imagine the
situation in a more extravagant and romantic way and, in many cases, her fantasies
are excessive and
4. The Life Of George Price
The life of George Price is one example of total selflessness. Throughout his life,
George Price was a fluctuating and ever changing scientist. Accepted to Harvard and
the University of Chicago, he eventually obtained a doctorate degree in chemistry.
Price worked on the Manhattan project, a program during World War I focusing on
building an atomic bomb. He later went on to work in various fields such as
computer science, psychology, politics, and eventually moved to London where he
discovered his love for evolutionary studies. He examined himself in the concept of
altruismand kin selection. He eventually created an equation for this concept of
selfishness versus altruism. Called the covariance or Price equation, this formula
tested... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Price finally underwent a conversion to Christianity and submerged himself in a life
of pure altruism. Giving money, clothes, or food to homeless people and those in
need, Price became the epitome test subject to disprove his own theory. Over time,
Price became depressed, quiet, and very isolated within his own mind. This state of
being led him to suicide over the Christmas of 1974 (Bankston).
The total amount of suffering per year in the natural world is beyond all decent
contemplation. During the minute that it takes me to compose this sentence,
thousands of animals are being eaten alive, many others are running for their lives,
whimpering with fear, others are slowly being devoured from within by rasping
parasites, thousands of all kinds are dying of starvation, thirst, and disease. It must
be so. If there ever is a time of plenty, this very fact will automatically lead to an
increase in the population until the natural state of starvation and misery is
restored (Dawkins 85). George Price is one of many cases of people converting in
to the beliefs of altruism and complete selflessness. But in the end, even people as
extraordinary as George Price must accept the fact that without some form of
consideration for one s self, the burdens of life will be a heavy component in
dragging down the human mind. The natural order of life has to have some amount
of suffering in order to function.
5. America s Expansion Of The New Lands
The Manifest Destiny was in nature a benevolent movement and it was also seen as
a well intended deal that was bound to make the country more successful through the
means of expanding its boundaries over a vast area. However, the approach which
the nation took in the acquisition of the new lands suggests differently as it did in
fact greatly benefit America but was truly a much more aggressive form of
imperialism. America s strive to move westward was a thought since the very
beginning and expansion helped portray the country s true potential. This was clearly
seen throughout the entire first half of the 19th century. Starting in the year 1803, the
United Statesgovernment purchased the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon I of
France, under the lead of President Thomas Jefferson. With the purchase, the country
doubled in size and only increased the movement of people into the interior of the
continent. By 1820, settlers had moved well beyond the Mississippi River, and as
years passed it was evident that the west was increasing much more rapidly than the
rest of the nation. In the 1840s, the United States had made many significant
purchases and additions to the country s land. One of these was the annexation of
Texas. In the 1820s the U.S. attempted to purchase Texas from Mexico twice but both
offers were refused. It wasn t until after violence between Americans and Mexicans in
Texas began that the American settlers proclaimed their independence from Mexico
and eventually led
6. Mississippi Mavens Stand Against Racism, Injustice, and...
Mississippi history is full of strong African American women who made a stand
against racism, injustice, and segregation, or paved the way for others to achieve
the American Dream. Ida B. Wells, Ruby Bridges, and Oprah Winfrey each fought
for equality of African Americans in different ways and different time periods, but
each has made a major impact on Mississippi and elsewhere in the United States. Ida
B. Wells was born in Holy Springs, Mississippi on July 16, 1862. Ida was born into
slavery. Ida s father served on the board of trustees for Rust College so he made
education a priority for his 7 children. Ida received early schooling but she had to

that they started pulling their children out of the school. Ruby and her family went

be there to help me grow and work hard to achieve not only my personal goals but
helps the team achieve theirs. On that last hole of the golf game getting ready for
your final putt of the round you take a chance and chose the line that you want to
putt your ball on. When I discovered Colorado State University and Coach Annie I
felt I just chose the right line for myself. As the final ball rolls toward the hole and
coach Annie selected me as one of her new recruits I knew not only that I had the

9. Red Coloringing Essay
Decades ago, when hummingbird feeders were made from plain glass vials or
bottles, a little red coloring was often added to the sugar water to attract the birds
attention. A tradition was born, and though modern commercial feeders are proven
attractive without additional color in the contents, to many people a hummingbird
feeder just doesn t look right unless it s filled with red liquid.
Hummingbird experts have long discouraged the used of colored feeder solutions as
unnatural and unnecessary, but there was little more than anecdotal evidence to
suggest how synthetic dyes might affect the birds health. Now studies on humans, lab
animals, and even cell cultures are providing that evidence without turning the
hummingbirds themselves into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a 1983 study, American researchers found that high doses of Red No. 40
administered to adult rats and their offspring resulted in significantly reduced
reproductive success, parental and offspring weight, brain weight, [and] survival as
well as behavioral abnormalities. Though the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
approved its use over twenty years ago, there is enough uncertainty about the safety
of Red No. 40 that it is banned in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany,
Sweden, and Switzerland.
Another food dye under scrutiny is FD C Red No. 3 (erythrosine), also found in
liquid food coloring and often added to feeder solutions. In 1990, the FDA banned
certain uses of Red No. 3 in response to a study that found that large doses of this
dye cause thyroid tumors in male rats. Subsequent research has identified estrogen
mimicking effects of the dye on human breast cancer cells and linked high doses to
reduced sperm production and behavioral changes in lab animals. (Neither Red No.
3 nor Red No. 40 should be confused with the infamous Red No.2, which was banned
in the U.S. in 1976.)
What are the implications of this research for hummingbirds and the people who
love and feed them? The most alarming aspect of these studies is that many of the
harmful effects were dose dependent: The larger the dosage of dye, the greater the
effect. A hummingbird the size of a Black chinned needs to drink about two and a
half times its body weight in 4:1 sugar water
10. Reasonation Styles Of Rebecca Loot, Rebecca Fadiman
And...
There are multiple argumentation styles and types of reasoning a writer can use to
make their argument effective. There are three main argument styles, which are
called the Aristotelian approach, the Rogerian approach, and the Toulmin approach.
Each of these styles incorporates evidence in different ways and have the claim stated
in different sections of the argument. There are different types of reasoning that can
be used to strengthen a writer s argument, which include inductive and deductive
reasoning. However, writers can accidently use fallacious reasoning, which can make
their arguments invalid and unreliable. Fallacious reasoning can also discredit the
author s argument. Anne Fadiman and Rebecca Skloot have different and similar
writing techniques. Anne Fadiman uses a Rogerian approach in her writing whereas
Rebecca Skloot uses the Aristotelian approach. Even though they both have fallacies
within their arguments, Rebecca Skloot is more effective and successful in her
arguments than Anne Fadiman because she uses an Aristotelian approach and uses
different types of inductive/ deductive reasoning to strengthen her claim.
Anne Fadiman, uses a Rogerian approach as her argumentation style in her book
called The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. A Rogerian argumentation style is
a conflict solving technique that works towards finding a common ground. For
example, in the beginning of her book, Fadiman states:
Dan had no way of knowing that Foua and Nao Kao had already
11. Vaccines In The Vaccine War
Most diseases prevented by vaccines are no longer common in the United States.
Vaccines prevent more than 2.5 million deaths each year according to the website
DoSomething.org. Yet, if vaccines were not used, a few small cases of the measles
could quickly turn into hundreds or thousands of cases. With this in mind, why
would anyone go against the yearly flu shot or against vaccines in general? This was
the question Frontline attempted to answer while producing their film The Vaccine
War .
In the beginning of the film The Vaccine War , the audience is shown the birth of a
newborn girl and a list of vaccines that a child gets within the first few months of
life. Then, the audience is presented facts about vaccines, which are explained by a
wide range of experts. Frontline invited a variety of public health care officials,
doctors, science based bloggers, and researchers to promote the science aspect of
vaccines. These experts clearly explained the benefits and risks of vaccines. They
conveyed how the benefits of vaccinations outweigh the risks, and emphasized the
threat of vaccine preventable diseases returning if herd immunity drops. With many
parents neglecting to have their children vaccinated, the herd immunity has a higher
risk of dropping and leading to an outbreak of disease. The experts expressed the
seriousness of the measles outbreak traced to Disneyland and the 2008 San Diego
outbreak.
Not only did Frontline seek an expert s advice, but they conveyed

Nature of Suffering in Buddhism and Christianity
Suffering is a component of many religions. The nature and purpose of suffering is
different in Buddhism from Christianity. Christianity has many examples of suffering
from the sins we commit, and the original sin that we are born with. Suffering is also
deeply embedded in Buddhism. One of the Three Marks of Existence in Buddhism is
Dukkha which translates to suffering. Christianity s most obvious examples of
suffering are divided into two different categories, mortal and venial sins. Venial sins
are not as serious, while mortal sins are very serious. Both types of sins can
13. Activity-based costing in restaurants
Activity based costing in restaurants
1. Introduction
Interest in cost and management accounting practices in the restaurant industry is
rising (Raab et al., 2009; Annaraud et al., 2008). Pavesic (1985) has initiated research
in pricing and cost accounting for restaurants, introducing the concept of profit factor
(PF) in menu engineering (ME). Prior studies, such as the one presented in Chan and
Au (1998) investigate the implications of not incorporating overhead costs in menu
item profitability analyses in restaurants in Hong Kong. Since then, a number of
researchers have examined the application of contemporary cost and management
accounting techniques, and particularly activity based costing (ABC) in a restaurant
environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To this end Kaplan and Cooper (1998) suggest that service companies are ideal
candidates for ABC. One reason for this is that in the services industry a great
percentage of total cost is labour cost and processes are highly variant (Kostakis et al.,
2008). Studies have shown the possible use and potential benefits of ABC in the
hotel industry (Kostakis et al., 2011; Berts and Kock, 1995; Noone and Griffin, 1999).
New techniques assisting large scale ABC implementation have also been developed
in recent years (Kaplan and Anderson, 2004).
The restaurant industry is facing great challenges today, mainly due to the highly
competitive environment and the diverse needs of the customers. Restaurants have to
achieve a balance between serving these needs, and pricing their menu items to
achieve adequate profitability levels (Raab et al., 2009).Traditional costing
systemsand simplistic pricing approaches were very popular within the restaurant
industry. Overhead cost and operating expenses were usually excluded and prices
were a function of food cost, as well as customer demand, historical prices and other
factors. This method has the evident disadvantage of leading to misleading
information about individual menu items.

The film Schindler s List has a tendency to simplify and sentimentalize the character

Data was collected from published studies or in press studies that focused on human
impacts toward soil biodiversity. Potential relevant studies must compare multiple
sites which having different land use type and/or intensity. In addition, species
abundance, richness, occurrence, or other diversity metrics must be present in the
study, so that diversity can be estimated. Furthermore, the information of the sites
location is also very important, studies which have the sites coordinates are more
preferable. The coordinates are very useful not just to pinpoint the exact location on
the map, but also to help us acquire other information, e.g. climate, biome, and
ecoregion (all paper criteria similar to Newbold et al. 2015). To find these potential
relevant studies, I used Web of Science (http://webofknowledge.com/) and Google

The corresponding authors of the suitable studies were contacted, asking whether
they are willing to share their raw data (which were not usually made fully available

them agreed to give me the raw data. After receiving the data, they were coded into a

17. Body Image By Jamie Santa Cruz
Society follows a norm that requires a general agreement between groups in order
to function as a whole. Human beings are social group animals (Lessing 1) and
need each other to survive with the intention to get along or fit in. These desires to
conform influence our idea about ourselves (Lessing 1) and people lose a sense of
their inner self based on these insecurities. The false concept of ideal beauty of
body image is displayed in the media and it pressures young women and men to
accept this particular notion of beauty. The role of the media comes into play
because it pressures individuals to give in, since they appeal to our need, which is to
be accepted. Although, people oppose to media pressuring individuals to conform, it
is clear... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Body Image Pressure Increasingly Affect Boys, Jamie Santa Cruz shows that the
media harms boys and girls in similar ways. Cruz discusses that boys who were
highly concerned with their weight, about half were worried about gaining more
muscles...major difference between boys and girls when it comes to weight concern:
whereas girls typically want to be thinner, boys are as likely to feel pressure to gain
weight as to lose it (1). This displays that boys feel obligated to look a certain way
like having a 6 pack or looking physically fit due to the influence of media.
Similarly, women want to lose weight because being skinny is considered to be
attractive. Cruz shows that most action figures have a significant proportion of
muscles which displays the improbable body image they set up for young boys (3
4) because of this, boys are falling prey to a distorted image of themselves and their
physical inadequacies (3 4). It is presenting men in a way that is unnatural, like
how girls and their bodies are advertised. We assume that this is how men should
appear and we judge them based on the illusions that the media has created. Cruz
displays that steroids is associated with depression, range attacks, suicidal
tendencies, and cardiomyopathies (4). He asserts that boys are pressured to look
what is considered as healthy in society. This shows how the media is harmful to
boys because they can use other alternatives, such as

Joy Hopewell is the thirty three year old maimed child of Ms. Hopewell in
Flannery O Connor s short story, Good Country People. Joy is characterized
throughout the story as an ungrateful, childish adult with a bad temperament. Joy s
leg has been shot off in a hunting accident over twenty years ago, and it can be
presumed that at least some of her behavioral issues can be attributed to the accident.
Ms. Hopewell, the eternally helpful and kind character, wakes up at seven each
morning to light the heaters in her and Joy s rooms. Joy shows her gratitude by
stomping her artificial leg unnecessarily on the way to the bathroom and then
slamming the door upon her arrival. She often has outbursts when her mother asks

Bibles, a boy named Manley. Initially (and not surprisingly) rude at dinner, Joy
eventually opens up to the boy as he is walking towards the gate. He tells a simple
joke and she doesn t laugh, but the conversation turns philosophical and her
interested is peaked. Joy agrees to meet him for a picnic the next day. She
imagines during the night that things come to such a pass that she very easily
seduces him and then turns his guilt into something useful and philosophical (371).
The real picnic turns out much different. On the way to the picnic, Joy notices that
Manley s valice isn t as heavy as it was when he carried the Bibles, and he even
swung it, but she doesn t think much of it (371). Despite all her degrees, Joy can t
sense that something is amiss. Her character judgment doesn t set off any alarms
when it comes to the boy. She has no idea that he isn t even close to what he says
he is. The two decide to rest from their walk in a barn in the loft, no less. Joy is so
eager to prove that she can get around just fine on her artificial leg that she doesn t
even realize that the boy needs her up there so he can take what he wants. Joy doesn
t sense any misguided thoughts at all in his apparent reverence for her. Her bad
temperament and lack of common sense have left her with so little worldly

usually made of plastic and glued on top of the liner. The liner is the most important
part of the helmet as it provides the most protection. It is usually made of Expanded
Polystyrenefoam. As the foam crushes, it converts the mechanical energy of the
collisionto other forms of energy such as heat, as well as, lengthens the time of
impact which reduces the impact force (F↓= I/T↑). These days some helmets

however, are affected by customer s willingness to buy the product, and thus, we do
not have very safe standards. Helmet standards, just like any other standards, could
also mislead people into being overconfident of the certified product. Lab tests,
which are used to make standards, also cannot accurately stimulate the effects on the
skull because they use a rigid head model. As time passes and impacts occur,
standards could also become meaningless because the foam starts to weaken. To
accommodate to this, you could either buy another helmet after each impact, which
could be expensive, or use the same helmet and endanger
21. Chorley Wood Rot Problem
Given enough time and the right conditions, wood rot problems in Chorley can
completely destroy the wooden building materials in your house. It can be difficult
to pinpoint rotting wood, especially if it is not easily noticeable. Undetected, wood
rot can spread throughout your entire house, eventually causing extensive structural
damage. If you suspect wood rot problems in your house, contact a professional damp
proofer as soon as possible.
Older buildings and houses that have not been regularly maintained are at risk. In
Chorley, wood rot problems are caused by wet timber. Moisture in the wooden
parts of your house creates an environment that is ideal for fungal growth. This
causes the wood s fibres to deteriorate. If there is an unprotected wooden area in
your house that is in contact with water over a long enough length of time, the wood
will begin to rot. Wood decay spores can settle on the damp or wet wood, and when
the conditions are right, will germinate into tiny fungus plants that will penetrate the
wood. If wood rot is not detected and removed, it can ... Show more content on

The United States presidential election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial
presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1984. The presidential
race was between the incumbent Republican candidate, President Ronald Reagan,
and former Vice President Democratic candidate, Walter Mondale. Reagan was
helped in the election by a strong economic recovery from the deep recession of
1981 1982. Reagan carried 49 of the 50 states, becoming only the second presidential
candidate to do so after Richard Nixons victory in the 1972 presidential election.
Mondale s only electoral votes came from the District of Columbia, which has
always been considered a Democratic guarantee, and his home state of Minnesota
which he won by a mere 3761 votes, meaning Reagan came within 3800 votes of
winning all fifty states. Reagan s 525 electoral votes (out of 538) is the highest total
ever received by a presidential candidate. Mondale s 13 electoral votes is also the 2nd
fewest ever received by a second place candidate, second only to lf Landon s 8 in
1936. In the national popular vote, Reagan received 58.8% to Mondale s 40.6%

In 1897, my great great grandfather was born in North Carolina. His name was Roy
Hudson. He served in the army in World War One and he died in 1960 from a
lengthy issue with his heart. His heart issues started when he developed pleurisy,
most likely from sleeping on the cold, wet ground while in the Army during World
War One. He was only sixty three years old when he died. Just before he died, he
gave his wife, my great great grandmother, his glasses, a book, and a billfold. My
great great grandmother s name was Roland Goddard. She was born in 1898 in North
Carolina, and her parents died when she was only eight years old. She was very
active in her community, and acted in community plays. She was very kind, and she
sang beautifully. In 1979, she died when she was eighty one years old. One of
RolandВґs children, Doris Hudson, was born in North Carolina in 1927. She is my
great grandmother, and she is still living. She is ninety years old and I call her
Gaga. She fell a few months ago and could not walk for a while, but she recovered
and is now able to walk slowly. When I was too young to go to daycare, she would
babysit me all day. She thought that is was alright for me to eat cookies when I
could barely eat solid food. She also thought that I was hungry every time that I
cried, therefore I was a very chubby baby. She had three children; Bobby Rose,

The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Miguel Soto Professor Folkerts Pepperdine
University 23 April 2014 Abstract Hirudo are well known for their blood sucking,
fluid feeding behavior. The purpose of this experiment was to get a better
understanding of Hirudo s blood feeding behavior; more specifically, the study was
designed to answer the question: how do different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s
thirst? By soaking a sponge with different volumes of cow blood and measuring the
time it took for the Hirudo to attach to the blood soaked sponge, the experiment
yielded results that help explain whether or not there was a connection between the
amount of blood available to Hirudo for feeding and the time it takes Hirudo to
attach to the blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Blood Sucking Behavior of Hirudo Hirudo, more commonly known as leeches,
are interesting creatures with a very distinctive feeding behavior. In society, they
are primarily known as blood suckers, but not much else is known about their
feeding behavior. In nature, Hirudo utilizes its abilities to detect and feed on blood
for efficient uses of energy (Sawyer, 1986). These unique behaviors caught my
interest and made me question them. This eventually led to the question: how do
different volumes of blood affect Hirudo s thirst? Hirudo are segmented worms
that can grow up to 20cm. long when fully mature and range from green to brown
in color. Hirudo have two suckers, one on each end called the anterior and
posterior. They are predacious animals and mostly fluid feeders. Some are true
blood suckers, attaching themselves to a host during feeding periods. They feed
mostly on turtles, fishes, dolphins, and other mammals (Elliot, 1986). Hirudo live in
many different places all over the world. Their habitats even stretch across Europe
and Asia. The most preferred habitat for this species is muddy freshwater and
ditches with a lot of weeds (i.e. lakes, ponds, streams, and marshes). Hirudo prefer
water that is eutrophic, meaning it is high in nutrients (Fields, 1991). In various
countries around the world, Hirudo are used for medical purposes. Leeches have been
used for treatment for illnesses such as benign tumors,
29. Poverty Is The Outcome Of Economic Inequalities
Poverty is the outcome of economic inequalities that are sustained by the social
problems prevalent in our society. The lack of equal opportunities has created social
margins where people in crisis are expelled to the economic edge. In a society where
members are stratified by wealth and status, those who live in poverty are seen as
deservingly powerless and ultimately abandoned to comply with their temporary
crises as permanent. Economic segregation reinforces the unequal separation amongst
social classes to keep the poor living in poverty. These are people who do not have the
means to fix the conditions of their environment, therefore they remain stagnant in a
state of submission and dehumanization, while those who are better off act... Show

Detroit, the Motor City, was once an icon of our national industrial prowess, the
home of an innovative automobile industry that played a key role in the
development of the modern middle class. Because of its specialization in the
production of heavy equipment during World War II, the city earned the label
Arsenal of Democracy.1 Throughout the postwar boom, Detroit was known as a
city where blue collar workers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds could prosper.
However, Detroit no longer symbolizes industrial might or technological
advancement. Rather, the city is frequently seen as leading the nation in
unemployment, poverty, deindustrialization, blight, high crime, and bitter racial
strife. It seems to have become the quintessential underclass city with 50% of
Detroit families making less than $25,000, 15.5% of the population unemployed,
and 35.5% of families living below the poverty line (USA Govt 2010c). Although
the deterioration of the city is inevitable, it is on the road to recovery and many
have chosen to embrace a new beginning of rebuilding. Detroit is unlikely to rise
again as the Motor City, however, some planners envision the reinvention of the city
as a haven for artists, cultural producers, and hipsters. According to urbanist Richard

spreading the success of the creative economy in Detroit.8 He argues that the key to

There are a lot of reasons for the rank structure and the chain of command. Every
reason that I am going to explain in this essay is very important. I am going to
separate them into two paragraphs. The first paragraph will be about the
importance of the rank structure and why the rank structure is in place. The second
paragraph will be about the importance of the chain of command and why the chain
of command is set into place. The rank structure goes back to the 1700 s. The rank
structure was put into place so that the soldiers had someone that was there to give
out orders; also the rank structure was there to teach the newer enlisted respect. If the
rank structure was not in place, there would be no order or discipline in the army....

But there is one simple way to fix that problem that a lot of us lower enlisted seem
to have. If the person you are about to talk to is not your chief or one of the other
chiefs in your platoon. Do not talk to them unless they speak to you first. And all
you really need to say to them is check, roger, hooah. In the past year and three
months, I have had a lot of trouble realizing this. I tend to do the wrong thing and
go talk to who I need to talk to without going about it the right way. If you want to
talk to your commander, you need to talk to you chief, then your platoon sergeant,
then your first sergeant, then you can talk to your commander. This may seem like
a lot of work. But in all actuality if the problem that you have is able to be fixed
beforehand, then it was all worth the work. Yes there are going to be situations
when you know that it can only be fixed by talking to the highest person in the
chain of command, but the chain of command needs to know what is going on so
that they can try to help you and explain the situation to the next person up. Before
I realized that the chain of command is here for the soldier, I always thought that it
was just so that your chief and your platoon sergeant do not look bad to the person
above them. In some cases this may be slightly true, but it is not just about that. It is
about helping you out as much as possible. Help yourself by going through the chain
of command. There is no reason for you to

Throughout history, there has been many different methods for corrections. Looking
back over time, you can see how the correctional system has evolved from the harsh,
brutal, inhumane ways of the 16th century, to the rehabilitation methods of today. In
the correctional system, there are different types of correctional facilities, various
custody levels, and a time where it all started. The United States correctional system
is a complicated system to fully comprehend. There are many different kinds of
facilities one can go to for corrections, and also there are numerous jurisdictions
inside the system. There are federal facilities, state, and local facilities. Federal
facilities vary in levels from low, to complex in order to be able to assign an offender
to their appropriate facility. There are different kinds of facilities inmates can go to,
there are Prison Camps, Federal Correctional Institutions, Unites States Penitentiary,
Administrative Facilities, and Federal Correctional Complexes.
The first federal facility is minimum security institutions, which are Prison Camps.
Prison Camps have minimal security and usually have a higher inmate to staff ratio.
Prison Camps have relatively low amounts of fencing around the facilities, and
sometimes don t have fencing at all. Inmates in these camps sleep inside dorms, and
are in a work or study program.

how mature Mike was. It shows that Mike was mature because he had a moustache
at the age of 17. And the moustache. She shook her head. I still a seventeen year old

rule of people. As said by Abraham Lincoln, democracy is government of the
people, by the people, for the people . In democracy all the power is seized by the
people but, still we find many cases in different parts of the world that the political
leaders and government officials and their families having more rights and power as

One easy way to differentiate civil rights and civil liberties is to recognize civil
liberties as the protection of our rights from any type of government interference.
Similarly, Civil rights are rights through which there is no discrimination in people
on any basis like race, sex, religion. The best example to differentiate civil rights and
civil liberties would be same sex marriage. Right to get married comes under civil
liberty whereas marring with same sex or different sex is a civil right of an individual.
2 In my life civil right has more influence as compared to civil liberties. The misuse
of power by the superior post is found in every country. When I was in my country
I had tried to go in the army. I tried my best and passed all the tests with high points
as required, there were a lot of individuals who had tried during that period. Most of
them belonged to the military family. The guys belonging to the military family just
met the minimum requirement whereas me and other common who had no relation
with military had better points. The results were out and was very biased. Among
hundred individuals only thirty five of them were selected and the selected persons
were all directly or indirectly related to the military family. So, instead of me a
common citizen the son of the major was selected.

Ex ante
Advantage: The ex ante analysis are that it give the company or organization an
idea of what the impact of a program will be once implemented. This can help
weigh out the cost over the benefits of choosing the program over another
alternative. An example is President Obama s recent lifting of federal oil drilling
regulations. It gave then an idea of the cost (environmental impact) over the benefits
(jobs and energy). A pro to support ex ante analysis is that it properly accounts for
the risks.
Disadvantages: The ex ante analysis requires information that the organization may
not have available. This means that large setbacks can occur with limited or
inadequate data. Perhaps a good example is our Social Security System. When the
program was introduced the expected life span of our citizens was much shorter. Has
analysts been able to predict the evolution of modern medicine and technology and
incorporated it into their projections, we might not be facing the outcome that is
inevitable.
Ex post:
Advantages: The ex post analysis is used to measure the efficiency of the
implemented program. This is an evaluation tool that can be implemented after the
project is implemented and up and functioning. This has the advantage of revealing
the demand. It can divulge problem areas that will likely affect the future of the
project. This can be used as a monitoring instrument on how to

Mark Twain was an influential writer, who not only wrote books with a sense of

The Adventure of Tom Sawyerand its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn have

Mark Twain always came up with quotes from his books, and because of an intense
curiosity I started reading his two classics. These books made me feel a variation
of emotions, such as happiness and acute desire to learn history and many more.
He had an abrupt way of telling things as they were, and a lot of people, including
me, were and are drawn to his stories because they do not refine people or society.
His tranquil literary style has given these books a sense of rawness to the emotions
his characters feel in his books, and the fact that Mark Twain is able to transmit
these emotions that goes to the roots of human nature, through only pieces of paper
is one of the many reasons why he is an author that almost everybody knows of. He
has not only opened many people s eyes, but also motivated great authors, such as
Ernest Hemingway and William Falkner. Mark Twain is able to create characters
that can see their environment from several perspectives, a great talent to have and it
teaches everybody who reads The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , and The
Adventure of Tom Sawyer the basic intuition of seeing things from other people s
perspective.
To conclude, Mark Twain is still relevant today and he teaches people the importance
of empathy, but also gives an insight to how unjust the society was before. He has
written many great things, a lot of them based on humour, such as The Adventures of

Research on this program has shown a favorable outcome of reduced suicide. At a 3

1775 and ended 1783. There was a lot of tension between the 13 colonies and the
British Monarchy. Smaller battles between British troops and smaller militias near
Lexington and Concord kicked off the war. And by 1777 the rebels began a full
scale war on Great Britain. The war turned into an international conflict when France
joined the war and sided with the American colonists in 1778. With the help of the
French the British surrendered at Yorktown in 1781 but the war did not officially end
until 1783. When conflict between groups of American colonists and British soldiers
had begun in April 1775, the Americans were solely fighting only for their rights as...

Tensions were high and had been building for years between residents of the
American colonies and the British authorities, primarily in Massachusetts.
Suddenly on the night of April 18, 1775, British army regiments marched through
Boston to Concord with the task of seizing an arms cache. The well known Paul
Revere and other riders sounded the alarm, and colonial militia began deploying to
intercept the Redcoats. An engagement on the Lexington town green began the
skirmishing, soon the British were quickly retreating due to severe fire. The
battles some larger than others still continued, and in 1783 the colonists formally
succeeded in their fight for independence. The British were very aggressive in their
measures of building revenue from the 13 colonies which ultimately caused the
tragic war(s). The Stamps Act, Sugar Act, and Townshend Acts caused animosity
amongst the colonists who ended up protesting where the Boston Massacre took
place. The Boston Massacre was a horrible side effect of American Rebellion but at
a cost of American blood. The Boston Massacre was a brawl I the street that
occurred on March 5, 1770, between a mob of younger men called a patriot mob.
The young men threw snowballs, rocks, and stick at the armed British Soldiers.
Unfortunately several colonists were killed. This led to a campaign by speech
writers to instigate the issue of citizenry. The presence of British redcoat

The marketing of the Chevrolet Voltwill be protected by this assignment, but there are
some important factors to consider.
General Motors and the EV1
At the turn of the 20th century, General Motors had developed the EV1. The EV1
was a plug in vehicle that relied solely on an electrical battery as its source of
power. This vehicle which had generated lots of hype, such as the Chevrolet Volt is
now, never made it into production. This result has caused many enthusiastic
electrical powered potential buyers to be weary of the production of the Chevrolet
Volt because of the heartbreak they suffered a decade ago. Additionally, analysts on
Wall Street deemed the EV1 a massive failure because of the non commercial
production of the vehicle.
Trying to understand why this vehicle failed to reach its potential is absolutely
necessary in the development of the Chevrolet Volt s marketing strategy. The primary
problem with the EV1 from a marketing perspective was the product itself. Unlike the
Volt, GM s EV1 didn t have the capability to use other fuel sources when the battery
died, but instead just died. Therefore, the product design of the vehicle was not
aligned with customer s expectations that had to make normal commutes throughout
the day. Another key factor was that the marketing of for this product was almost non
existent. Other than a few appearances at car shows and a television commercial that
41. The Impact Of Gunpowder
Everyone knows what a gun is right? But do you REALLY know the impact that
gunpowder has caused? Gunpowder has been around for centuries, over
millennium. How has gunpowder effected Warfare, and life as we know it? You
would never think about how gunpowder may have affected the existence of the
electronic device you re using right now. But its effects are longer lasting than one
might have ever thought. The smart phone in your pocket? It exists because of the
Industrial revolution, which was powered by gunpowder. The Car you drive, the
toaster in your kitchen? All powered by gunpowder. Now let s start off from the
beginning of the discovery of gunpowder. In the early 900 s it was discovered on
accident. (5) Gunpowder was found originally in China, some Taoist monks were
trying as hard as they could to find a way to make an immortality potion. They
found out how it blew up if dropped or was set on fire, it was put to use against the
invading Mongols by the existing Song Dynasty in China right away. The first
recorded use of Gunpowder was when the Chinese strapped a tube filled with
Gunpowder to arrows; they then lit these arrows on fire and shot them at the
invading Mongolians. (5) They were extremely effective at scaring the Mongols
away. It would be comparison to scaring a newborn child with a popped balloon.
The reaction you get from them is similar to how a person would react if they never
knew what gunpowder was. Soon after that, the Chinese tried to put the
42. Analysis Of A Great Deal Of Inequality Within The Scene...
Another difference of opinion could be that Tessie reveals a great deal of
inequality within this scene, that this scene reveals a great amount of gender
inequality in society. For example, the lottery reinforces gender oppression as it is
men such as Mr. Summer, who operates the lottery. Tessie is the one who dies
because of the lottery yet has little agency over in the community s affairs.
Furthermore, since it is Bill who pulls the slip of paper from the box, the narrative is
reinforcing the notion of genderinequality found within religion. In fact, Tessie
acknowledges this paradox of her predicament as that she yells You didn t give him
time enough to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn t fair! (text). It is at this
moment that Tessie is acknowledging the duality of the lottery. Tessie is placing the
blame of her results upon her husband s inability to pull an arbitrary slip of paper
from the box. Moreover, Tessie reveals that she lives almost abstracted from the
events of the community since her husband is the partaking in the event and Tessie is
gossiping with her friends. Furthermore, the communities gender inequalityoccurs as
Tessie draws the final black spot and is stoned to death. The act of being chosen by
the lottery and Tessie s inability to hold a voice against the machine that causes her
demise is a paradox of gender inequality and being women within a community, that
only includes the female gender when convenient.
Furthermore, Tessie s

(Ndongo 92). Ndongo demonstrates through this novel that education can take more
than one form, and though it differs from Western ideals, it still serves as a uniting
force amongst the tribe. Similarly, Pierre is guided by his grandmother throughout
childhood. When speaking with the Colonel, Pierre hears his grandmother s voice in
his head speaking about shikwembu, and compares the description with the Colonel
(Mudimbe 52).
In both of these novels, education is exemplified in ways other than ancestral
teachings. In Between Tides, Pierre receives an education starting from elementary
school. We learn that in addition to his schooling to become a priest, he studied canon
law. In Shadows of Your Black Memory, the Spaniards used education as a tool to
colonize the Fang people, teaching them to recognize they should be grateful that
they had been saved and to glorify their Spanish ancestors:
...when Don RamГіn asked you what you were, your little voice stood out clearly: all
of us together are Spaniards by the grace of God! And why are we Spanish? intoned

44. The Safety Of A Car Vehicle
Most of the automotive companies believe that the next generation of cars are
going to be autonomous vehicles, but not all of them have the same opinion about
it. Some companies want to bring a fully autonomous car to reality, which wouldn t
need any human interaction to drive the car, while other ones are interested in
driverless cars, which need humans to drive them. Both autonomous and
driverless concepts give cars more control over themselves, and both aim to give
more comfort for mankind, thus providing an easier life for drivers and
passengers, but the idea of an autonomous car on the roads raises some questions
about the safety of it and the responsibility over a car like this. A driverless car can
have most of the autonomous features, it just needs someone to drive it, and then
the control would also be from a person that would be more watchful and take
responsibilities over the car. Ford is going to launch an autonomous car. The
company already has a semi autonomous one in market, the Fusion hybrid, and they
say that the car is automated, but by automated they mean that it is capable of
automated operation under the supervision of a human driver. Ford already have
one step in automated driving, and in five years they are going to bring two new
innovative features that are going to be essential for self driving cars; one is the
fully automated parking that allows the vehicle to park itself with no help from the
driver, the driver just have to press a button, then
45. The Paris Eiffel Tower
1.0 Introduction.
The topic I am going to write about is The Eiffel Tower in France about its structure,
history etc. Because Eiffel Tower is a very significant man made building at that
time(1889) and still the most famous and recognizable tower people could think of in
the world nowadays.
1.1 History and background of The Eiffel Tower.
The Eiffel Tower is located in Paris, France, buildt in 1889 and it is 1063 feet tall.
The reason of the name of the Eiffel Tower is because it was named after Alexandre
Gustave Eiffel, who was a famous civil engineer and architect. The tower was built
for the International Exhibition of Paris in memory of the centenary of the French
Revolution. It means too much for the french people, it is a sign of ... Show more

*The Eiffel Tower is an excellent viewpoint, to get the whole city of Paris under your
eyes, and it is a great spot for observation.
*The tower saves a lot of land space.
Disadvantage
*Because the tower is very high and famous, it became a very popular place for
people to commit suicide, approximately more than 350 people jumped off from
Eiffel Tower and died. So safety is one of the major disadvantages of The Eiffel
Tower.
*The cost is often much higher to build a tower rather than a lower structure, and
requires more people and money to clean or repair from high.
2.5 Interesting facts about the Eiffle Tower
Thomas Edison visited the tower in September 1889 and left a message of
congratulations for M Eiffel .
In February 1912 Austrian Franz Reichelt attempted to jump off the first floor of the
tower using his home made parachute to glide to the ground. Unfortunately during the
60 m drop his parachute failed to open and he died on impact.
Between 1925 and 1934, three sides of the Tower accommodated advertising space
for Citroen which made it the world s tallest advertising structure at the time.
The Eiffel Tower has featured heavily in at least two James Bond movies, although
there have been many more cameo appearances in a

Canada, a country known for its rich mosaic of cultures and people, it is uncommon
for us to picture the oppression and discrimination of any minority groups.
Unfortunately, not all countries live up to par with our human rights. Such as Sri
Lanka, a small island located off the south coast of India, surrounded by the Indian
Ocean. This beautiful country beholds some of the greatest entities such as its
prosperous tea plantations. However, beneath this beauty lies a tremendous amount
of corruption and chauvinism. From the time when Sri Lanka received independence
from the British colonies, the population was split into two different cultures. The
Majority being the Sinhala Buddhists while the minority being Hindu Tamils. The

Upwards of seventy thousand Tamil civilians were killed and hundreds of
thousands were displaced (United Nations, 2000). Worldwide it is known as the
May massacre and black July. The systematic killings of the Tamils were considered
genocide. The United Nations (2000) states, that genocide is the [perpetration of]
violent crimes with [the] intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic,
racial or religious group (P.337). The genocide against Tamils has been going on for
years and the Sri Lankan government has not been brought to justice. Till this day, the
surviving Tamil civilians are kept in concentration camps where many men, women
and children get tortured, kidnapped and raped. According to the Sri Lankan
government, these camps were made for rehabilitation purposes. David Keen (2014)
states that the use of the camp is, a dramatic practical expression of the fact that the
Tamil population as a whole was considered suspect in relation to rebellion and
terrorism (P.10). Even after the genocide and the victory of the civil war, the Sri
Lankan government still has not done anything to bring equality amongst its
population. Let alone any sort of independence for the Tamil civilians. The newly
elected President, Mahinda Rajapaksha opted to take Sri Lanka down an authoritative
road (stone, 2014). He has brought other members of his family to governmental
positions creating a permanent family line of non democratic leadership. The
instability and corruption within the government will assure that the Tamils will

to the business district of Maycomb, he passes Mrs. Dubose s house and loses his
temper and destroys all of her camellia bushes with a baton from Scout. As a
punishment Atticus makes Jem go read to Mrs. Dubose everyday for a month.
When Jem was reading to Mrs. Dubose it was helping her stop being addicted to
morphine. At the end of the month she is no longer addicted but dies. In the story
the author Harper Lee reveals how Mrs. Dubose is old fashioned and cantankerous.

48. Examples Of Tragic Hero Creon
Antigone is one of the greatest tragedies ever written by Sophocles. There is a
controversial question about this play: Who is the tragic hero? Could it be Antigone
or Creon? Even though the play s name is Antigone, but as I read the story. A
sensible and responsible king, Creon, is a tragic hero because of his power madness,
self righteousness, and ruthlessness. He is the center of the play, which causes events
to happen. The first tragic fall that leads Creonto his downfall is his power madness.
His power madness fall can be supported by Antigone s dialogue, Further: he has
the matter so it that anyone who dares attempt the act will die by stoning in the
town. (Antigone 2). The quote means that anyone who didn t follow Creon s
decree will die. Another support can be seen when Creon said, Not to take sides
with any who disobey. (Antigone 8). This quote shows that he wants everyone to
obey him and anyone who disobeys him will get in trouble. The last support can be
found when Creon said, Not to take sides with any who disobey. (Antigone 8). This
quote shows that he wants everyone to obey him and anyone who disobeys him will

49. Descriptive Essay On The Virtual Museum
I toured the virtual Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Though it
was not face to face, I still really enjoyed my experience through the virtual word. I
was more fascinated about the liveliness in the virtual world than anything else. I
think the virtual museum itself was more of a work of art than the art it displayed
because it covered almost every inch from many different points of view in the
museum. I also liked how it was pretty easy to operate and move around, and no
matter how much I zoomed in or out I could read almost everything perfectly fine.
While being able to explore this museum from the comfort of my own home was a
plus, I truly missed out on being able to read the display labels to learn more about
the artifacts. Reading about the history or story behind a work of art is, in my
opinion, the best part. This virtual tour was captivating, and I hope to someday
visit the museum in person. The Smithsonian is known for its realization and
absolute beauty shown in the exhibits. Every exhibit of this museum has great
detail and precision. Not only was each exhibit filled with things of its nature, but
also had the right colors to make you feel the exhibit. For example, the vibes
flowing from the ocean hall were incredible. The way they accomplished the feel of
actually being in the ocean was a surreal experience to even see through the screen. I
also liked the way that everything was pretty close to life scale, like the huge whale
hanging from the

Oscar Wilde works combine the importance of his own life with his ability to write to
create famous short stories, plays and novels. A few of his most famous works
include The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest. This Irish

writers of his time. Themes such as homosexuality, individualism and aestheticism
frequently which make his works especially stand out. His most important techniques

Raby describes its uniqueness and the fact that Wilde s play didn t imitate any
Standard British comedy plays used in that time period for a variety of reasons. At
the time most comedic plays used as much pace and physicality in their plays as
possible while Wilde s plays had performers that were much more seriously
absorbed in the roles and seemingly didn t not realize or understand the humor.
Wilde made sure his actors were well aware that his plays were not to be acted out
in the standard way and it was part of his own unique style. Raby also states that
pace was very important for comedic plays to function well combined with Wilde s

To get the iron to the furnaces, it was shipped 50 miles, by boat, from the mines.
The cost to work the furnaces was about 120 slaves a furnace (Colonial Livings). In
the beginning, iron was produced in Bloomery forges, a hearth in which iron ore
was combined with charcoal and heated. To fuel these monstrous furnaces to make
iron required many trees for fuel. One acre of trees produced about 30 40 cords of
wood and about 4.5 cords were needed to make one ton of iron. One acre produced
about 6.5 8.5 tons of iron. Steel was also needed in the colonies. To produce small
quantities of steel, used for blades and cutting implements such as saws, wrought iron
was reheated, to a molten state in clay pots with measured amounts of charcoal.(Penn
