How To Write A Satirical Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of composing a satirical piece may initially seem like a
straightforward task. However, delving into the art of satire requires a nuanced understanding of
humor, societal issues, and the delicate balance between wit and criticism. To start with, one
must possess a keen awareness of current events, cultural trends, and the nuances of human
behavior, as satirical essays often draw inspiration from these sources.
The challenge lies in skillfully intertwining humor with a critical examination of societal norms.
Striking the right balance between satire and offense is a tightrope walk, as crossing the line can
undermine the intended message and alienate the audience. Crafting satire demands a sharp wit,
a deep understanding of language nuances, and the ability to transform serious subjects into
comedic commentary.
Additionally, the writer must navigate the fine line between exaggeration and realism, employing
hyperbole and irony to emphasize their point without losing the audience's engagement. Research
becomes crucial, as factual accuracy grounds the satire in reality, making the humor more
impactful.
Furthermore, structuring a satirical essay poses its own set of challenges. Determining the
optimal pacing and ensuring a consistent tone throughout the piece is essential to maintain the
comedic flow. Effective use of language, wordplay, and rhetorical devices is key to delivering
satire that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
In conclusion, writing a satirical essay is a complex task that demands a multifaceted skill set. It
involves a delicate dance between humor and critique, necessitating a deep understanding of
societal issues and the ability to wield language with precision. Successfully navigating these
challenges can result in a compelling and insightful satirical essay that leaves a lasting impact on
the reader.

Satsuki s Changes In My Neighbor Totoro
In the film My Neighbor Totoro, Satsuki and her family go through a great deal of
changes in their lives. The recent changes in Satsuki s family s lives cause them a
great deal of stress. Everyone in the family deals with the stressful situation in
different ways. Satsuki s dad tries to spend more time at home instead of always
working. Mei, Satsuki s sister, deals with the stress by trying to spend all of her time
with Satsuki. Satsuki tries to cope with the stressful situation by ignoring it. She
simply distracts herself from the entire situation her familyis enduring. This causes
her multitudes of issues throughout the film and it eventually causes her more stress.
The Totoros come into her life to give her an alternative, stress free environment.
They also distract and relive her from some of the stressful feelings she encounters.
One of the changes in Satsuki s life that causes a lot of stress is that her mother is in
the hospital getting a long term treatment for an unknown sickness. This unfortunate
situation forces the family to make a couple of difficult adjustments to their lives.
Satsuki s family decides to move to a new neighborhood in order to be closer to the
hospital that their mother resides in. Moving to a different home ... Show more

Satsuki decides to ignore the stress that comes with her family s situation and keep
herself preoccupied. She tries multitudes of things to ignore her feelings and they
all seem to work temporarily. One of the methods she uses to preoccupy herself is
helping her dad out. She knows that her dad has a good deal of things on his mind
since her mother is not there to help him, so she willingly decides to cook lunch for
the family. She knows this is something simple that she can do that simultaneously
helps him out. Unfortunately for Satsuki, helping her dad cook only helped her
ignore the feelings of stress for a minute fraction of
Why Do All Lives Matter Essay
Personally I feel that if people of a free nation think that something is happening
hat needs to be stopped and only the government can stop it then I m all for it. The
U.S became the U.S because we didn t like how our mother country was treating
us, so we stood up for ourselves and left. Why shouldn t we still have that right?
Something going on that lots of people have been talking about recently was the
Black Lives Matter protest. Personally I m a All Lives Matter type of person but, if
people actually want to go and make protest for BLM then I m all for it, If people
honestly feel like something needs to change then it is our right to change it. Now if
you look at all of the good protest they actually get things accomplished. But, if you

because many colored people were getting shot with out a reasoning (as they say)

shot were the ones who weren t listening to the authorities. Many I m basis because
I was born in a really Christian family and i was always taught from the very
beginning to always listen to the people who have the authority over you if its
your parents, grandparents, teachers, strangers, or even siblings you always listen

Gender And Optical Illusions
Introduction Paragraph
In my science fair project I tested whether gender matter in the way people see
optical illusions. I tested this because it sounded fascinating, and also interesting.
Optical Illusions now in day, it s used in many ways. They can be used as a way to
trick people, to learn about sensory perception, and to learn about how the brain
perceives lighter values and dark values.
Research Summary
Optical illusions fool our brains by taking shortcuts, because the brain can t take
everything at once. Our brain is able to perceive lighter values more quickly than
dark values. Our sense of light and dark becomes unreliable during this.
Cognitive Illusions have four different categories of illusions which are Distorting,
ambiguous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other people were not at school because they were sick, which caused me to find
other people to do it instead of the ones I had planned to do it with. Also,
sometimes the place I was going to use had people in it, which caused me to look
for another place and sometimes to postpone. And I learned that putting 5 people in
a room is not the best way to do the optical illusions, because some people talk to
each other even though they are not allowed to. If I did this experiment again, I
would fix every single difficulty I had in this
Good Practices of Communication within a Team
Good Practices of Communication within the Team The topic focused in this paper
within teamwork is communication. In teamwork, communication in an important
part in order to achieve success and reach goals. This was the reason why this topic
was chosen because; establishing good communication facilitates team work and
achievements. This paper will be discussing four good practices that are important for
communication, which are suggested by peer reviewed scholarly articles. Each good
practice is provided with an example of how it can be used in my discipline and
why it could be helpful. My first practice is to establish a dialogue and hold a
common ground as a team. This means to not treat the team as a debate with others,
but rather with mutual respect. My second good practice in communication looks as
individual communication skills, and assertiveness. My third practice views team
communication skills, including team conflict resolution. The final good practice
looks how to communicate during the decision making process as a team. In addition
a useful technique in part of decision making is brainstorming. Following each
practice will assist the team and its members to have good communication and form a
stronger team.
Outline of Literature Surveyed To prepare this paper several journal articles were
reviewed through online article databases. Many articles found during the beginning
of the literature review were relating to the medical and nursing field. This made it
My First Day Of High School
You need to surround yourself with people who care about you. Who challenge
you to grow. Who make you happy and appreciate all that you have to offer. The
message rang in my head as my mother offered me this advice, in attempt to quell
my fear of not fitting in the night before my first day of high school. I was often
scared to be myself. Being a persistent Asian with nothing but frequent late nights
studying intensely to keep up, young male dancer, and closeted gay teenager were
all facets of my identity that did not sit well in the minds of middle school bullies.
However, my high schoolexperiences brought me to realize that by integrating
myself in a community of passionate individuals, I thrived immensely and found
myself growing every day. Today, I no longer fear being unapologetically Marcus.
With a profound clarity, I envision myself continuing my journey of self improvement
by studying at Carnegie Mellon as a design major.
I found my niche in design because the field allows me to combine my love for the
arts and functional aesthetics with my dream of creating an impact on the world.
Already, I observed the immediate social impacts of thoughtful communication design
as editor in chief for our school s yearbook publication. I learned design extends
beyond aesthetics as its primary significance is functionality, which my staff
accomplished by telling powerful stories through an understanding of visual hierarchy
and efforts to ensure thorough coverage. A full year s

The Theme Of Hate In The Count Of Monte Cristo
In the book The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, Hate seems to be a
stronger force than love, unlike the saying love is the strongest force in the world.
Although in some instances love is a pretty strong force. In chapter 21 starting on
page 119, the so called love of the Count of Monte Cristo is actually a mask for his
hatred and revenge. Albert gets kidnapped by italian bandits led by Luigi Vampa.
Vampa is a long time friend of the Count of Monte Cristoand The Count actually set
up Albert to get kidnapped by him far ahead of the time. The Count did all of this out
of hatred and the want for revenge on his enemies. It does appear to Albert and Franz
that the Count is a kind gentleman, but he actually helped them so that Albert
Perception In Ob
Outline:
Introduction: perception definition, and why it s important in Ob.
Body
I.How perception affects managers job: positively or negatively.
II.Examples from: Managerial activities, performance evaluation, employee

III.What are the implications that the manager could learn from?
Conclusion: a brief summary, and additional information but not new.
Perception is a process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory
impressions in order to give meaning to their environment. However, what we
perceive can be substantially different from objective reality (Robbins, Judge, Millet,
Boyle, 2013, p.142). Robbins et al (2013) stated that Workers in an association may
see it as an incredible spot to work ideal working conditions, fascinating occupation
assignments, great pay, fabulous profits, understanding and capable administration at
the same time, as the majority of us know, its extremely surprising to discover such
agreement. According to Aque. (2007, В¶14)
The current form of perception relates back clearly to its original Latin meaning as
the action of taking possession, apprehension with the mind or senses . Perception is
what allows us to make sense of the world through the experience of our senses and
the collection of data but the question remains of how we perceive and what it means
to perceive. To perceive something is thus not to understand something, but rather to
hold that
Personality Disorders Are Pervasive And Enduring
Patterns...
Personality Disorders are pervasive and enduring patterns of thoughts and behaviors
that deviate significantly from the expectations of a person s culture (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). The inner experiences or behaviors are expressed in
at least two of the following areas: Cognition, affectivity, interpersonal functioning,
or impulse control. These patterns are inflexible and stable over time, cause
significant impairment or distress, and have an onset typically occurring in
adolescence or early adulthood. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5th Edition
(DSM 5) includes ten specific personality disorders, classified into three clusters
based on similar characteristics (APA, 2013). Cluster A disorders exhibit odd or
strange characteristics and include Paranoid, Schizoid, and Schizotypal personality
disorders. Cluster B disorders encompass wild or dramatic qualities and include
Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, and Narcissistic personality disorders. Lastly,
Cluster C disorders express anxious or worried features and include Avoidant,
Dependent, and Obsessive Compulsive personality disorders. Due to the breadth and
comprehensiveness of personality disorders, this review with concentrate on the
treatment of Cluster B disorders, specifically Borderline Personality Disorder.
Psychopathology of Borderline Personality Disorder According to the DSM 5 (APA,
2013), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a persistent pattern of instability in

Apparently, very little seems changed since the time of the Goffman s analysis. His

different times, contexts, and media, but the majority of the detected representations

particular, the Goffman s role function, ie the association between masculinity and
positions of power and femininity and secondary tasks, often related to the of the f
home keeping and the care of the family, is also found in most of our sample,

completely outdated in the Italian culture and too common in the television

Despite the expectations and the spread of the concerns in the Italian debate on gender
and the media, the sensual woman/object to be observed and used, is not a very
popular figure in our sample. If anything, she is an element, sometimes discreet
sometimes gaudy, which serves to embellish the scene or to a attract or gratificate
the gaze. However, this figure appears often in the spot of products more or less
related to seduction, like the underware. A commercial of the brand Intimissimi, for

Shaykhlislamova, wearing panties and bra, staging the feminine touch well depicted

female endorsers chosen more for their beauty than for skills or knowledge. In the

conspiracy and crime, but he is still considered to be one of the most beloved
political figures in Providence, Rhode Island s colorful history. He earned his first

Providence was no longer the bustling hub that it used to be. The city never really
recovered, it now houses many of the lower middle class and minority communities.
This type of implosions is sometimes referred to as white flight, the white middle
and upper class fled the city leaving the lower classes to live in dissolving,
disheveled neighborhoods . The Italian neighborhood, Federal Hill, fell under the
control of organized crime during this weakened economic window, this would
remain a prominent authority in Providence until the late 1990s. Today the tendrils of
mobster influence still can be seen but in a lesser degree than in the 1970s.
Politically, Providence was always a bit corrupted. It ran on a patronage system where
a person would scavenge and promote democratic voting and in return, the democrats
would give the person who gathered the votes a government job . This continued well
into the twentieth century despite the Pendleton Act of 1883 which stated that
government jobs should be awarded based on the potential employee s merit rather
than their political affiliations or connection . The politics were not clean, it was run
by the Democratic machine which kept the city spiraling down by putting the same
ineffective politicians in charge.

Kids In Congo By Annie Oonard Analysis
Annie Leonard creates a cohesive and influential argument against man s
overwhelming reliance on consumption by integrating numerous personal anecdotes,
popular environmental design philosophies, governmental initiatives, and
corporations backward innovation tactics to reaffirm man s need to use their
sociological imagination to truly see the world in front of them and fight for a more
socially equitable and environmentally sustainable way of life. First, Leonard
provides an all encompassing perspective of corporations and the government as they

She first references many upstream efforts to change the way corporations and
industries design, market, and produce their products. For instance, she frequently
echoes the claims of the Upcycle s McDonough and Braungart to take the toxins out
of the design process in the beginning, like Europe is doing with chlorine removal
from paper (Leonard, 54). Leonard also continually references closing the loop for
production materials and changing values to ensure design is environmentally and
socially sound (Leonard, 84, 103). Biomimicry is also celebrated as an influential
and revolutionary design tactic (Leonard, 19). While those efforts are more top down,
Leonard also supports bottom up, such as Greenmanager (Leonard, 188). The author
successfully incorporates many environmental initiatives and efforts into a
comprehensive plan for moving forward. She embraces and encourages these efforts,
but argues they are just placing more Band Aids on a leaky pipe, rather than dealing
with the problem at hand, they are just not big or powerful enough. Rather, Leonard
asserts there must be a civic engagement part to bring the accountability and
responsibility back to the government and corporations (175). Leonard makes a great
point, but

at the Gates of Difference The rejection of modernity, sexual expression, and the

Dracula dwells at the gates of difference, first at the gates of modernity. Which Stoker

Dracula, he notes that unless my senses deceive me, the old centuries had, and
have, powers of their own which mere modernity cannot kill. The turn of the
century was bringing about major changes to English society. Beliefs that were
held with such strength for years were being challenged. Stoker writes Dracula
throughout as a monster who easily avoids and defeats these modern ways. For
example, modernist devotee characters such as Mina and Dr. Seward were focal
points in showing how without knowledge of the Old World they were helpless to
help or even venture logical guesses about how to help Lucy after she was attacked.
It was only until Van Helsing who did have the old knowledge that they were able
to render any aid to her once so ever. Finally, Stoker writes in

Sales of Buell motorcycles (which are distributed through select Harley Davidson
dealers) increased to $14 million in 1995 as compared to $6 million in 1994. The
Company began 1995 at a scheduled motorcycle production rate of 395 units per day.
As the implementation of the manufacturing strategy continued, the rate increased to
470 units per day by the end of the year. The Company exceeded its production goal
of 100,000 units in 1995 and anticipates 1996 production will reach at least 115,000
units.
The Company is currently reviewing alternative sites for the construction of a new
manufacturing facility to enable it to achieve its long term goal of doubling
motorcycle production by 2003. Year end data indicates that the domestic (United
States) motorcycle market continued to grow throughout 1995.
Compared to 1994, industry registrations of domestic heavyweight (engine
displacements in excess of 751cc) motorcycles were up 11.3% . The Company
ended 1995 with a domestic market share of 55.8% compared to 56.1% in 1994.

Similarities Between Inspector Goole And Birling
The mystery and morality play, An Inspector Calls , was constructed by Priestley
to expose to the public the problems in society and Capitalism. He uses Inspector
Goole and Mr. Birling, two very opposing characters in personality and political
views, to help illustrate his ideas. This is mainly highlighted by the idea of the
Inspector being the protagonist and Birling as the antagonist. Inspector Goole and
Birling both represent the two major political parties present in 1912, when it was
set (Socialism and Capitalism). Mr. Birling gains more in his business and society
due to Capitalism, so is unable to accept community and all that nonsense . This
illustrates Birling s belief that each person should only care about their friends and
family.
Act One of Romeo and Juliet Essay
Act One immediately engages the audience. Do you agree with this statement?
How does Shakespeare achieve this? Act One of Romeo and Juliet by William
Shakespeare does indeed immediately engage the audience. Shakespeare does this
by using several language techniques to create an interesting opening scene.
Shakespeare uses humour, action and romance all in Act One and it is this variation
that keeps the audience s attention. The play begins with a prologue that is written
in the form of a sonnet. The Prologue gives a summary of the play but does not
give away too much of the plot, in order to keep the suspense. Shakespeare tells of
the great tragedy that will follow. The sonnet form is used because it is more

They are usually dressed in bright, colourful costume, they walk jauntily and they

The two servants poke fun at each other and use sexual innuendo to create an
immediate sense of humour in the play. They begin by using wordplay to create
humour on the first four lines and then move on to boasting to one another about
their fighting skills. Sampson says, I strike quickly, being moved to mean that he is
quick to fight when he is angry. From line ten, the servants begin to use words with
two meanings, one of which is sexual. Words like thrust , stir (to have sex), stand
(have an erection) and maidenheads (virginity) are used. Sampson and Gregory
continue to use sexual innuendo to insult each other s manhood and brag about their
own virility. Sampson says that t is known I [he] is a pretty piece of flesh to mean he
is an attractive man but Gregory replies insultingly by suggesting that he is not able
to have an erection. This gives the play humour and grabs the audience s attention.
Immediately after this, an argument breaks out between Sampson and Gregory and
two servants of the Montague household. After a few insults, they begin to fight.

Thesis On Psoriasis
Abstract:
Psoriasis is a disease of chronic systemic inflammation that involves not only the
skin, but also internal organs. The frequency of Non alcoholic fatty liver disease
was found to be significantly greater in psoriasis patients with increased risk of
atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. A large number of immunes is found in
Psoriatic skin and this immune produce chemokine s, cytokine and inflammatory

between some psoriasis loci and those identified in other autoimmune or
inflammatory diseases has been reported.

increased incident rate of psoriasis, and hip circumference and waist to hip ratio

associated with metabolic syndrome and increase risk of cardiovascular disease are
non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and chronic plague. . NAFLD is the
hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome, with its key component being
visceral obesity. 38 The prevalence of NAFLD is 10 24% of the general population
worldwide, increasing to 57.5 74% in obese individuals. The mortality was
increased in patients with NAFLD compared with the general population and in the
National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) study, the
NAFLD cohort had both increased overall mortality and liver related mortality
compared with individuals without liver disease. 39 While in most patients,
NAFLD does not progress beyond simple steatosis, it may progress to Non
Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH). The prevalence of NASH also correlates with
obesity, with waist to hip ratio and abdominal obesity reported to be predictors of
NASH. Diagnosing patients with NAFLD and identifying those with NASH is
challenging, as they are generally asymptomatic. Clinical presentation and current
radiological modalities may not be reliably to
Carelessness In Prodigal Son From The King James Bible
Carelessness Sometimes the desire to give can be overwhelming, especially when
you have a plethora of what another person craves. In the parable, Prodigal Son
from The King James Bible, a reckless son takes advantage of his father s wealth,
but to everyone s surprise he was never punished. Actually, he was even celebrated
for returning home after blowing away the millions of dollars his father had gave
him. The boy s brother on the other hand was not having it, and confronted his
father about the reasoning behind this fiasco. The father retaliates in an odd
manner by saying, It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy
brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found (Luke 15: 11 32). The

In the 1980s and 1990s there was a baby blip in New Zealand, thus resulting in an
increased number of young people aged 12 24 years living in New Zealand
(Ministry of Youth Development, 2011). The numbers of young people have grown
from 757,000 at the time of the 2006 Census to approximately 818,000 in 2011

Abstract
Court appointed attorneys constantly face ethical and moral conflicts in their position
of authority The toughest calls could be considered those that challenge professional
ethics and personal ethics. When attorneys accept to the duty to represent a client,
they have an ethical duty to protect confidential information obtained through
attorney client meetings. However, how do attorneys respond when an accused
murderer admits to a crime that has previously been committed and is currently
being investigated? Can an attorney break the attorney client privilege bind or
should they continue to represent a client they know is guilty? Can justice, if at all
possible, be discovered from either ethical dilemma? This paper will not only
answer these questions but it will also discuss the legality of client confidentiality.
The 1973 Buried Bodies case will be used to explain and analyze the legal bind

What Were The Goals Of The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement was an African American revolution, that started
because African Americans were being judged by the color of their skin. Africans
Americans felt as though they were second class citizens. They were segregated
within the school system, businesses, assaulted daily by white citizens with fists or
attack by police dogs, and denied equal rights. African Americans felt that things had
to change and that they deserve all rights as an American. The religious beliefs that
was foundation of the Civil Rights Movement differ. Martin Luther King, Jr s.
religion was Christianity, and felt that all Americans should be integrated and get
along despite the brutality of some white supremacists. But Malcolm X s religion
was Muslim and more militant. His belief in Black Nationalism was that white
America wanted to keep African Americans from empowering themselves by
political, economic and social success and that violence could be use if needed. Black
Nationalism also wanted to promote separatism from white America. For example,

Malcolm X, and the Black Power Movement were alliances of the Civil Rights
Movement of 1960. However, how to reach these goals of equal rights separated
African Americans. Many African Americans felt being nonviolent had achieved
many victories; such as the Brown v. Board of Education (1954), desegregation of
businesses in the South, Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1964.
Other the other hand, other African Americans believed that without the threat of
violence lingering in the background, nothing would have been achieved. These
differences splintered the Civil Rights Movement. With the assassinations of Malcom

with the Black Power Movement, the Civil Rights Movement became

Prosecuting Traffic Crimes
Getting a ticket for violating traffic laws is more than just a nuisance. You can lose
your license if you accept the accusation and pay the ticket. The consequences vary
depending on the traffic crime that you commit, but they are all rough. Speeding can
get you hefty fines along with license points that can make drivingexpensive for you.
Insurance premiums could skyrocket, and your access to driving positions could be
limited. Some traffic offenses such as drunk driving can land you in jail. Scheduling
a consultation with a reliable driving violation solicitor can help you avoid losing
your license.

vehicle before it can ask a judge to charge you guilty of any violation.
Next, the prosecuting party has to present evidence of your traffic violation before

prosecution claims to have substantial evidence. For example, machinery can always

Finally, the other party will have to prove that you committed the traffic offense with
full knowledge of the offense and without extenuating circumstances. One example of
extenuating circumstances is baby delivery or a hospital emergency. The judge may
be lenient if you were rushing someone to the hospital when you committed the
offense, however.
Depending on the nature of the offense, a solicitor may be able to request that the
judge lessen your penalty. You could receive probation or house arrest for drunk
driving, for example. The judge may ask you to complete a drunk driving class, as
Kidney Stone Research Paper
I have chosen the topic about kidney stone because my favorite comic book series
featured it as a character. Kidney stones, also known as, Nephrolithiasis or Renal
Calculi, are crystalized lumps formed by insoluble calcium compounds (Kidney
Stones). Normally, the two kidneys in the human body are in charge of filtering blood
to produce urine. The urine travel down to the ureters, then into the urinary bladder,
and finally excreted through the urethra (Baxter, 2016a). When there is not enough
water to dilute the waste products, they stay in the kidneyand increase the risk of
stone formation. As waste stayed in the kidney, it start to build up and form into a
kidney stone. Depending on the size of the kidney stone, some may slide down the
urinary tract without causing any discomfort. However, because of the small
diameter of the ureters, large usually get stuck and block the flow of urine (Baxter,
2016c).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the size of the stone are less than five millimeters in diameter, it should pass
through the urinary tract without the need of surgery or medicine. However, if the
diameter of the stone are bigger than ten millimeters, then it must be removed by
surgery or lithotripsy (Baxter, 2016b). In order to determine what kind of kidney
stones have formed, a 24 hour urine sample, blood screen, calcium loading tests,
and stone analysis has to be performed (Baxter, 2016b). Men between the ages of
twenty to thirty are most likely to be diagnosed with kidney stones (Kidney Stones).
Approximately 70% of men and 10% of women are diagnosed with kidney stones by

Thereby, both underwater and land archaeology should coincide information in order
to search for more accurate explanations. For instance, the connection between Ulu
Burun shipwreck and Egyptian civilization could be unveiled with the help and
support from the land archaeology. Although the Ulu Burun excavators found
material and assumed that to be ivory, in fact it was African Blackwood found in
Sudan, Mozambique and Angola (Bass 238). However, archaeologist could later
learn that they were the same wood that was used in King Tut s tomb by
supplementing archaeological discoveries from the land. As a result, they
successfully confirmed that the Ulu Burun shipwreck was associated with Egypt. On
the other hand, the increasing number of findings can often challenge the original
assumption. The raw materials found on the ship along with the various Cypriot
and Canaanite objects made it appear as if the ship was traveling from the east to
the west when it sank (Bass 240). However, the discovery of some amber beads
refuted this original thought. This particular amber was identified as Baltic amber,
which occurs in an arc sweeping across northern Europe from the Baltic south to the
Black Sea (Bass 241). His statement asserts that it became unclear exactly which
direction the ship was heading. This requires archaeologist to continuously
William Shakespeare s Time
The timeless, genius, iconic writer Shakespeare, still to this day has his stories and

strong. Now for nearly five hundred years, his work of tales and stories remain and
are idolized. Shakespeare s many plays still are relevant even with how immensely

they are structured with rules. Our entertainment coming from actors and actresses,
and how we respect them. And even how we see music and acting is our industry.
Times have changed and spiraled into a very different direction.
The first concept of how Shakespeare s time is much different than our own, is how
we perceive the entire idea and thought of how a theater should be treated and how it

However, statistics show he isn t wrong. Time and time again, law abiding gun
owners use guns for self defense and to stop criminals. In a thorough study done by
the National Research Council, which used science, raw data and research to come
to an unbiased conclusion, it was confirmed, The hypothesis that many Americans
use guns for self protection each year has been repeatedly subjected to empirical
test, using the only feasible method for doing so, survey of representative samples of
the populations. The results of nineteen consecutive surveys unanimously indicate
that each year huge numbers of Americans (700,000 or more) use guns for self
protection. Further, the more technically sound the survey, the higher the defensive
gun use estimates (Pepper Peltrie Wellford 113). Unfortunately, because of a lack
of funding by the CDC to study current gun violence, the exact numbers of how
many people stop criminals while using guns to protect themselves is unknown, but
according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), gun
ownership has increased by 66% in the last 20 years (Mantel 238). Despite not
having recent numbers, it would be reasonable to conclude using guns for protection
should see an increase as gun ownership increases. In addition, while the media
rarely publicizes the heroic examples of crimes being thwarted by gun toting
civilians, a simple Internet search unveils many recent examples where violent crimes
were stopped at the end of law abiding gun owners. Gun control advocates push Gun

The Consequences Of High School Dress Code In Public
Schools
Approximately 64% of the United States public education system requires a strict
dress code. How does the dress code affect the students and how does it benefit
them? Do the students have a say in this dress code policy? Do they have a fair vote
on how dress code violations should be addressed? There are so many questions on
how the students defend their rights in the public school system, yet they cannot
have the opportunity to have their opinions heard. Dress codeamongst the years have
changed amongst the years and not for the better. High Schooldress code is
demoralizing towards females and the consequences are exorbitant.
Dress code has been administrated all across the world and thousands upon
thousands of students have complained about their school dress code. Some dress
codes have not put into the consideration of weather and current fashion trends. There
are some schools that have extreme heat that almost forces the students to disobey
the school s dress code policies. At Baldwin High School there are very limited air
conditioned buildings which create heat in the learning environment. Despite that the
heat is too extreme for students that they have to wear shorter length clothing and
breathable attire to condemn the fact there is no way to cool down besides clothes
that don t adhere to the dress code. Students are usually taught to practice their right
to freedom of expression, the first Amendment. Dress code prohibits that ability and
discourages students. Most students interact with the daily fashion trends in the
world and want to choose to follow those trends. To some students dressing up in
their clothes is their only way to express their selves. Creating this suppression
against their artistic ability discourages these students from feeling comfortable in
their own school, is it not that school is supposed to be where students feel safe and
comfortable at? School administration claims that the dress code is imposed to create
a less distracted environment and to prepare students for their future careers. The
attire student wear are not the only distractions in the classroom, students are
distracted by their cellular devices and life issues. Yet, cell phones cause a greater

Historical Analysis Of Zoot Suit, By Luiz Valdez
Historical Analysis of Zoot Suit Zoot Suit was written by Luiz Valdez and
published in 1978. The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the
1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural
conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s. This story also deals with
the intercultural struggles between Mexican Americans and white Americans. In

central cause of the riots ( People Events ). The script takes place before and during

Luiz Valdez, is a 76 year old Mexican American male that is known to be the father
of Chicanoplays. He earned a degree in theater from San Jose State University and
founded El Teatro Campesino (Albert). El Teatro would perform for migrant farm
workers. Valdez grew up working alongside his parents in the field. This led to
Valdez be an activist; his theater would perform plays to aid the farm worker strikes
by lifting the spirits of the protesters. For that, Valdez became an influential leader in
the Chicano movement. He had interesting early life experiences that gave him
inspiration for his plays. In Zoot Suit, the protagonist
The Legend of La Llorona Essay
A Guatemalan native, a male graduate student that I work with in my research
group at the University told this story. He came from the countryside, living in a
small village back home. According to him, the story of La Llorona, involving a
weeping woman, arose sometime in the 1700s and became well known both at
school and home. Some claimed to have actually seen the weeping woman. Some
disregard it as unscientific and implausible. No one is sure of the exact origin of this
urban legend. This story was told to me and another graduate student in our research
group while sitting in lab waiting for the experiment results. The story began as we
started sharing our own background and the culture of our own countries when the

Enraged at the young man who once promised her that he would be with her forever,
she drove him away. When the time came for the wedding, MarГa stood at the back
of the church hoping a miracle would happen. However, the ceremony went on and
the young man was married with the girl his parents chose for him. When the
ceremony was over, MarГa went home in a crazed state and killed her children,
throwing them into a nearby river and then drowning herself. When her soul reached
heaven, God denied her entry. God asked her, Where are your children? Ashamed,
she confessed that she threw them into the river and did not know their whereabouts.
Go and bring them here, the Lord said. You shall not enter the heaven gate and rest
until you have found them. Ever since MarГa, now La Llorona, wanders along
streams, creeks, and rivers at night, weeping and crying for her children, Ay, mis

those who have seen her, her face is sometimes that of a horse, but often time more

In this report i will be writing brief description on the functions of the main cell
components of the body cell.
The cell membrane : is something that lets some things in and some things out of
the cell. It is an outer cover for the cell. If the cell membrane was non existences the
cell would spill all over the place. Its function is to protect the integrity of the interior
of the cell by allowing certain substances into the cell, while keeping other
substances out. It is composed of a thin, double layered sheet of lipids, around the
Cell and is a protective membrane layer around every Cell.

It acts as a storage organelle. It is important in the creation and storage of steroids. It
also stores ions in solution that the cell may need at a later time. Steroids are a
type of ringed organic molecule used for many purposes in an organism. They are
not always about building muscle mass like a weight lifter. The ion storage is
important because sometimes a cell needs ions fast. It might not want to search the
environment for ions, so it is easier to have them stored in a pack for easy use.
Rough ER looks rough on the surface because it is stubbed with very small
organelles called ribosomes. Ribosomes are made of RNA and protein and are the
site of protein synthesis. They are very important in the synthesis and packaging of
proteins. Some of those proteins might be used in the cell and some are sent out.
The ribosomes are attached to the membrane of the ER. As the ribosomes builds the
amino acid chain, the chain is pushed into the ER. When the protein is complete, the
rough ER pinches off a vesicle. That vesicle, a small membrane bubble, can move to
the cell membrane or the Golgi apparatus
Golgi apparatus[pic]
The function of the Golgi apparatus is to modify, sort, and package proteins and other
materials from the endoplasmic reticulum for storage in the cell or secretion outside
the cell.

Legal Forms of Business in Sri Lanka
Introduction
A business also called a company, enterprise or firm is a legally recognized
organization, designed to provide goods and services to consumers. According to the
purpose of the business, ownership of the business and nature of economic
contribution of the business; the business can fall into one of the three standard
sectors. There are; private sector, public sector and nonprofit sector.
The part of the economy concerned with providing basic government services is
called public sector. In most countries the public sector includes such services as the
military, public transit, primary education and healthcare. Their aim is to give
service to the people and less emphasis is made on profit making. Public cooperation

All assets of the business are owned by the owner and all profits and all losses
accrue to him. He is personally responsible for all debts of the business and must pay
them from his personal resources. This means that the owner has unlimited personal
liability for the business. Also, owner is less burdened by government restrictions
and control, and he has less to do in terms of reporting and taxes.
The main advantage of a sole proprietorship is that they are easy to start up and to
close. The reason is, they are less expensive and also subject to fewer regulations
compared to other types of businesses. Since the owner has full autonomy with
regard to business decisions, sole proprietorship businesses are easy and
inexpensive to discontinue. The second advantage is that the owner can take all the
profits of the business and there is no profit sharing. This may be the most
significant motivation for most businesses to become sole proprietorship type. At
the same time, all losses accrue to the owner and he does not have the tension
regarding conflicts among the partners as there are no partners. In sole
proprietorship business type, the owner of the organization pays self employment
taxes on the profits made. It makes tax filing much simpler and hence this can be
considered as another advantage for sole proprietorship business type. Since this is
not a corporation; it does not pay

All managers have resources (time, talent and capital) to varying degrees within
their organizations. So, technically, all managers are strategists. The reality,
however, is that not all managers are good strategists. Herein lies the pearl of great
opportunity: the deeper you can dive into the business and resurface with strategic
insights, the more valuable you ll become to your organization. Effective resource
allocation drives profitability (more resources invested in the right activities) and
productivity (fewer resources invested in the wrong activities). The result is a high
performance organization in which all levels of management are encouraged and
equipped to shape its strategic direction. 2.0 Definition of Subject 3.1 What is
Strategy and Why is it Important Why every company needs a sound strategy to
compete successfully, manages the conduct of its business, and strengthens its
prospect for long term success? A company s Strategy consists of the competitive
moves and business approaches that managers are employing to compete
successfully, improve performance, and grow the business. Strategy is the process
by which individuals and organizations make choices about scarce resources so as to
satisfy wants over time. In making their choices individuals and organizations are
constantly assessing market and non market forces as vehicles to enhance economic
welfare but they do so in an environment of complexity and
Murder Capital Of The World
In a period of four years one metropolitan city experienced a 1,000 percent increase
in homicides. Steven Dudley and Elyssa Pachico report that there was an astounding
3,000 murders reported in 2010 compared to only 300 murders in 2006. The
statistics dubbed Ciudad Juarez as the murder capital of the world during these years.
The ongoing war between the once dominant Juarez Cartel and the current reigning
rival Sinaloa Cartelspurred the homicide rate in this crucial drug trafficking route.
Recent speculations are that the Sinaloa Cartel led by Joaquin El Chapo Guzman
Loera has surpassed the waning Juarez Cartel and taken control of Cd. Juarez s
territory (Shoichet). Just like both groups are to blame for the colossal amount of
murders so can the shift in power and dominance by one organized crime group in
the area could be accredited the dramatic decrease in violence. Crime in this border
city which neighbors El Paso, TX has had a sharp decrease in killings. Julio
CastaГ±eda, a Chihuahua state spokesman, reports, So far this year (2015) there
have been 89 killings (Valencia). Fighting organized crime will always be an
international challenge, but the war against organized crime in Mexico and along
the border with the United States needs to be approached differently than it has been
in the past. The high demand for illicit drugs in the United States needs to be
minimized, the supply of weapons flowing south to arm federal law enforcement
agencies in Mexico needs to stop,

The objective of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) is to protect those who create
works, such as artistic works or literary works, as well as those other subject matter,
such as films or sounds recordings, from those who would serve to exploit or profit
from their labor, skill and creativity. But, what about those who use these protected
works and other subject matter for interests different to the above? Such as for
educational purposes or for broadcasting? Under the act, there are listed many
defences to protect an individual or a corporation from infringement of copyright, or

General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (GATT), first signed in 1947, and
Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS), signed in
1995, which covers trade related areas of copyright. In the UK, the Copyright Act

Statute of Anne, is also a major influence on Australian copyright law was adopted
into Australia by virtue of the Copyright Act 1912 (Cth). This UK piece of
legislation also recognized the importance of legislating in this area. In the United
States, this area is legislated by the Copyright Act 1976 (USA). This piece of
legislation will be discussed below when dealing with fair use defences. It is clear,
that on an international scale, the importance of protecting intellectual property is
paramount. Works of an individual s skill, independent thought and labour needs to
be protected, to prevent exploitation, rip offs, and encourage future individuals to
create new works or other subject matter other than works.
The Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), as stated above, was introduced in response to the
growing need to protect individual s creative works or other subject matter from
commercial or other exploitation. It contains provisions, which describes what

The Blackfoot Indians Essay
The Blackfoot Indians
The wind blows across the lone prairie, causing the golden heads of grass to sway in
a synchronized motion. On the horizon stands a herd of buffalo with bowed heads
silhouetted by the slowly sinking sun. In the east stands an
Indian war party mounted on horseback, each individual in different multicolored
attire, all with either bows or spears in hand. As they move in for the attack, the
mystical scene slowly fades from vision.... This dreamlike scene was once
everyday life to the American Indian before they were robbed of all that made their
life real. The Indians originally came over to North America via the Bering Strait at
a time when the ice age caused the gap to freeze over. They came from Asia by...

The peace pipe was always passed by the host to his vis a vis(left handed neighbor),
who puffed it several times and passed it on to his left. This left pass routine was
continued until the end of the line was reached, at which time the end man either
returned the pipe to the host or sent it back toward the right. No one would take a
puff until the pipe was returned to the host, who smoked it and sent it around again.
The Blackfoot were a nomadic tribe that lived throughout the year in tepees and had
seasonal migrations. the tepee was originally covered with buffalo skins, but later
they were covered with canvas due to the lack of buffalos. Women were considered
the owner of the tepee and were in charge of it s care and maintenance. Blackfoot
tepees consisted of four poles and among the Indians were the most elegant in shape
and painted decoration. The
Blackfoot tepee had a broad band of dark color painted around the base to represent
earth, and on this a series of circles, or dusty stars. They had seasonal grouping of
the tepees in a large circle. The fireplace was made in the center of the tepee, with
an outlet for smoke at the top. The tent cover had flaps to which two poles were
attached outside the general framework to form a closable doorway. The entrance to
the tepee faced east with the place of honor in the rear. Ceremonial objects were kept

Examples Of Fatal Flaws In The Once And Future King
The Fatal Flaws of Characters in the Arthurian Legend
Many characters in stories have one fatal flaw that can eventually lead to his or her
downfall. In The Once and Future King by T.H. White and The Mists of Avalon by
Marion Zimmer Bradley, the love triangle between King Arthur, Guinevere, and
Lancelot is revealed. Guinevere is married to Arthur, but she has feelings for Lancelot
who is Arthurs most trusted knight. Each of these three characters have
characteristics that could be their fatal flaw. The fatal flaws of King Arthur,
Guinevere, and Lancelot all contribute in one way or another, to Arthur s downfall.
Arthur s fatal flaw is outlined in his early years of growing up, in Book One of The
Once and Future King. His parents leave him so he is adopted by Sir Ector who also

Her marriage to Arthur is an arranged marriage, so she didn t have any say in the
decision. Although she is married to Arthur, she also has affections for Sir
Lancelot. Why do you think I am any more happy or contented than you? she
demanded, her voice shaking. At least you can choose whether to stay or to go,
but I was given into Arthur s hands without even so much as will you or no? Nor
can I rise and ride forth from court when things go not to my will, but must stay
here within walls and do what is expected of me ... if you must go, I cannot say,
Stay; and if you stay, I cannot say to you, Go! At least you are free to go or to stay
as makes you happiest! (The Mists of Avalon). She loves Arthur as well as
Lancelot, but her love for Lancelot is romantic, unlike Arthur s. Guinevere is also
childish in a sense that she lets lust override her loyalty to Arthur. She ignores the
guilt she feels for her affair with Lancelot and constantly craves to be with him. Her
love for Sir Lancelot causes her to make bad decisions and they affect everyone
around her. Guinevere s lust blinds her and contributes to Arthur s
The Luck Of Ginger Coffey Essay
In Brian Moore s The Luck of Ginger Coffey, the city of Montreal is depicted as
being in a kind of stasis, its landscape and inhabitants repeatedly described as frozen
and stagnant: Four forty five. Office workers, waiting release as the minute hand
moved slowly towards the hour, looked at the darkness beyond their windows and
saw edges of frosting begin to mist the panes (Moore117). Despite this passage s
emphasis on stillness, however, it nevertheless features two references to time.
Throughout Moore s novel, attention is repeatedly paid to specific times or time
frames, complicating the underlying image of Montrealas a city averse to progress.
Considering the subjectiveness of the third person limited narration, it seems best to

The profession of the contemporary newspaper typist saw a change in corporate
culture wherein the clock became a powerful object, owned only by the foreman
and governing the employees. It seems, however, that Moore s depiction of time is
more appropriately a reflection of Ginger s fixation on the myth of the new world
as a land of boundless opportunity. Indeed, the clock does seem to be independent of
the diurnal cycle: As [Coffey] started off, the sun moved west, unadmitted by the
pall clouds which all day had curtained the frozen river and the city islanded within
it . . . Four forty five (117). This image of the sun being blocked from the city by
clouds demonstrates the city s apparent ignorance for the sun s position in the sky,
yet the passage continues on, repeatedly referring to the passing minutes as Coffey
makes his way to the Tribune. One thing that time does not seem so independent
from, however, is the lives of the office workers in the financial district, waiting
release as the minute hand moved slowly towards the hour (117). At five o clock . .
. down came the office workers, spilling out into the streets (117); at five thirty . . .
[another] policeman . . . invited Coffey to cross [the street] (117). In this passage, the
connection between time and nature has been completely severed and time has
become reappropriated as
Dan Ariely s Predictably Irrational By Dan Ariely
Dan Ariely, the author of В«Predictably IrrationalВ», conducted a comprehensive
research related to human behaviour and its influence on our decision making. In the
seventh chapter of the book, Dan explains why people overvalue their possessions
and how this overestimation hinders our life. He considers that our perspectives can
be changed dramatically due to overvaluing what we have and gives several instances
of proving his thoughts.
The first example is the experiment at Duke University where students should spend
an enormous amount of time in tents to get a ticket for a basketball game. Dan Ariely
called ticketholders and those who did not get any ticket and asked them about the
price at which they were willing to sell this ticket or pay ... Show more content on

People generally are not concerned about this problem because they cannot
sometimes distinguish it. Dan Ariely presented the extensive research to explain to
people how the overvaluing of what we have complicates rational decision making
about our possessions. The examples appeared in the chapter help in revealing the
interesting aspects of human behavior related to the ownership. People may find
several instances relatable because all of them reflect our situations in life. The
author provides the broad explanations about why overvaluing influences on our
decision making. He makes it easier for us to understand how ownership can
dramatically alter our perspectives.
Summarizing all above mentioned it seems that the chapter is managed
appropriately to make the main issue clear for the readers. Dan Ariely raises the
problem of overvaluing to warn people about its danger that can disturb their life. He
covers the whole topic by providing the comprehensive instances and answering the
central questions related to the problem. The chapter clarifies how the issue of

  • 3. Why Do All Lives Matter Essay Personally I feel that if people of a free nation think that something is happening hat needs to be stopped and only the government can stop it then I m all for it. The U.S became the U.S because we didn t like how our mother country was treating us, so we stood up for ourselves and left. Why shouldn t we still have that right? Something going on that lots of people have been talking about recently was the Black Lives Matter protest. Personally I m a All Lives Matter type of person but, if people actually want to go and make protest for BLM then I m all for it, If people honestly feel like something needs to change then it is our right to change it. The whole point of BLM is because many colored people were getting shot with out a reasoning (as they say) and dying. But, most of the reasons was because the people who ended up getting shot were the ones who weren t listening to the authorities. Many I m basis because I was born in a really Christian family and i was always taught from the very beginning to always listen to the people who have the authority over you if its your parents, grandparents, teachers, strangers, or even siblings you always listen and reply with yes ma am and yes sir and do what they say when they say it no matter the situation or circumstance. In this case it is the cops, and while yes while no one deserves to get shot and die if you don t listen and the cps feel like you are a threat to other people then serious things will

I tested this because it sounded fascinating, and also interesting. Optical Illusions now in day, it s used in many ways. They can be used as a way to trick people, to learn about sensory perception, and to learn about how the brain perceives lighter values and dark values. Research Summary Optical illusions fool our brains by taking shortcuts, because the brain can t take everything at once. Our brain is able to perceive lighter values more quickly than dark values. Our sense of light and dark becomes unreliable during this. Cognitive Illusions have four different categories of illusions which are Distorting, ambiguous, ... And I learned that putting 5 people in a room is not the best way to do the optical illusions, because some people talk to each other even though they are not allowed to. If I did this experiment again, I would fix every single difficulty I had in this

  • 6. My First Day Of High School You need to surround yourself with people who care about you. Who challenge you to grow. Who make you happy and appreciate all that you have to offer. The message rang in my head as my mother offered me this advice, in attempt to quell my fear of not fitting in the night before my first day of high school. I was often scared to be myself. Being a persistent Asian with nothing but frequent late nights studying intensely to keep up, young male dancer, and closeted gay teenager were all facets of my identity that did not sit well in the minds of middle school bullies. However, my high schoolexperiences brought me to realize that by integrating myself in a community of passionate individuals, I thrived immensely and found myself growing every day. Today, I no longer fear being unapologetically Marcus. With a profound clarity, I envision myself continuing my journey of self improvement by studying at Carnegie Mellon as a design major. I found my niche in design because the field allows me to combine my love for the arts and functional aesthetics with my dream of creating an impact on the world. Already, I observed the immediate social impacts of thoughtful communication design as editor in chief for our school s yearbook publication. I learned design extends beyond aesthetics as its primary significance is functionality, which my staff accomplished by telling powerful stories through an understanding of visual hierarchy and efforts to ensure thorough coverage. A full year s

II.Examples from: Managerial activities, performance evaluation, employee interviews, managerial decision making. III.What are the implications that the manager could learn from? Conclusion: a brief summary, and additional information but not new. Perception is a process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment. However, what we perceive can be substantially different from objective reality (Robbins, Judge, Millet, Boyle, 2013, p.142). Robbins et al (2013) stated that Workers in an association may see it as an incredible spot to work ideal working conditions, fascinating occupation assignments, great pay, fabulous profits, understanding and capable administration at the same time, as the majority of us know, its extremely surprising to discover such agreement. According to Aque. (2007, В¶14) The current form of perception relates back clearly to its original Latin meaning as the action of taking possession, apprehension with the mind or senses . Perception is what allows us to make sense of the world through the experience of our senses and the collection of data but the question remains of how we perceive and what it means to perceive. To perceive something is thus not to understand something, but rather to hold that

His search is not entirely comparable with the GEMMA ones, because it refers to different times, contexts, and media, but the majority of the detected representations has more than one point of contact with the survey of the Canadian sociologist. In particular, the Goffman s role function, ie the association between masculinity and positions of power and femininity and secondary tasks, often related to the of the f home keeping and the care of the family, is also found in most of our sample, populated by many housewives and few female workers. His career was fraught with conspiracy and crime, but he is still considered to be one of the most beloved political figures in Providence, Rhode Island s colorful history. He earned his first term as mayor at age thirty three, in 1975. He would serve six terms as mayor over the course of three decades. Buddy died just last year, January twenty eighth, 2016 after losing a battle with cancer. The Italian neighborhood, Federal Hill, fell under the control of organized crime during this weakened economic window, this would remain a prominent authority in Providence until the late 1990s. Today the tendrils of mobster influence still can be seen but in a lesser degree than in the 1970s. Politically, Providence was always a bit corrupted. It ran on a patronage system where a person would scavenge and promote democratic voting and in return, the democrats would give the person who gathered the votes a government job . This continued well into the twentieth century despite the Pendleton Act of 1883 which stated that government jobs should be awarded based on the potential employee s merit rather than their political affiliations or connection . The politics were not clean, it was run by the Democratic machine which kept the city spiraling down by putting the same ineffective politicians in charge. Leonard also continually references closing the loop for production materials and changing values to ensure design is environmentally and socially sound (Leonard, 84, 103). Biomimicry is also celebrated as an influential and revolutionary design tactic (Leonard, 19). While those efforts are more top down, Leonard also supports bottom up, such as Greenmanager (Leonard, 188). The author successfully incorporates many environmental initiatives and efforts into a comprehensive plan for moving forward. She embraces and encourages these efforts, but argues they are just placing more Band Aids on a leaky pipe, rather than dealing with the problem at hand, they are just not big or powerful enough. Rather, Leonard asserts there must be a civic engagement part to bring the accountability and responsibility back to the government and corporations (175). Leonard makes a great point, but

The turn of the century was bringing about major changes to English society. Beliefs that were held with such strength for years were being challenged. Stoker writes Dracula throughout as a monster who easily avoids and defeats these modern ways. For example, modernist devotee characters such as Mina and Dr. Seward were focal points in showing how without knowledge of the Old World they were helpless to help or even venture logical guesses about how to help Lucy after she was attacked. It was only until Van Helsing who did have the old knowledge that they were able to render any aid to her once so ever. Finally, Stoker writes in

Similarities Between Inspector Goole And Birling The mystery and morality play, An Inspector Calls , was constructed by Priestley to expose to the public the problems in society and Capitalism. He uses Inspector Goole and Mr. Birling, two very opposing characters in personality and political views, to help illustrate his ideas. This is mainly highlighted by the idea of the Inspector being the protagonist and Birling as the antagonist. Inspector Goole and Birling both represent the two major political parties present in 1912, when it was set (Socialism and Capitalism). Mr. Birling gains more in his business and society due to Capitalism, so is unable to accept community and all that nonsense . This illustrates Birling s belief that each person should only care about their friends and family.

In an article called Actors in Shakespeare s Day , it states how the public eye saw many actors. First off, actresses were very disrespected and not very common because the gender rights were not equal, unlike today. So, many actors were critiqued or made fun of, and seen as jokers. Many audience members watching the actors would not respect them (like stated above, they would yell things at the actors and throw things on the stage). Nevertheless, people would still pile into the theaters and watch the shows quite often. In today s time, we love and respect many actors and actresses. Time and time again, law abiding gun owners use guns for self defense and to stop criminals. In a thorough study done by the National Research Council, which used science, raw data and research to come to an unbiased conclusion, it was confirmed, The hypothesis that many Americans use guns for self protection each year has been repeatedly subjected to empirical test, using the only feasible method for doing so, survey of representative samples of the populations. The results of nineteen consecutive surveys unanimously indicate that each year huge numbers of Americans (700,000 or more) use guns for self protection. Further, the more technically sound the survey, the higher the defensive gun use estimates (Pepper Peltrie Wellford 113). Unfortunately, because of a lack of funding by the CDC to study current gun violence, the exact numbers of how many people stop criminals while using guns to protect themselves is unknown, but according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), gun ownership has increased by 66% in the last 20 years (Mantel 238). Despite not having recent numbers, it would be reasonable to conclude using guns for protection should see an increase as gun ownership increases. In addition, while the media rarely publicizes the heroic examples of crimes being thwarted by gun toting civilians, a simple Internet search unveils many recent examples where violent crimes were stopped at the end of law abiding gun owners. There are so many questions on how the students defend their rights in the public school system, yet they cannot have the opportunity to have their opinions heard. Dress codeamongst the years have changed amongst the years and not for the better. High Schooldress code is demoralizing towards females and the consequences are exorbitant. Dress code has been administrated all across the world and thousands upon thousands of students have complained about their school dress code. Some dress codes have not put into the consideration of weather and current fashion trends. There are some schools that have extreme heat that almost forces the students to disobey the school s dress code policies. At Baldwin High School there are very limited air conditioned buildings which create heat in the learning environment. Despite that the heat is too extreme for students that they have to wear shorter length clothing and breathable attire to condemn the fact there is no way to cool down besides clothes that don t adhere to the dress code. Students are usually taught to practice their right to freedom of expression, the first Amendment. Dress code prohibits that ability and discourages students. Most students interact with the daily fashion trends in the world and want to choose to follow those trends. To some students dressing up in their clothes is their only way to express their selves. Creating this suppression against their artistic ability discourages these students from feeling comfortable in their own school, is it not that school is supposed to be where students feel safe and comfortable at? School administration claims that the dress code is imposed to create a less distracted environment and to prepare students for their future careers. The attire student wear are not the only distractions in the classroom, students are distracted by their cellular devices and life issues. Yet, cell phones cause a greater distraction in the

The story is based on the Sleepy Lagoon murder trials of the 1940s and follows protagonist Henry Reyna. This play deals with the intercultural conflicts between Henry s generation and his parent s. This story also deals with the intercultural struggles between Mexican Americans and white Americans. In this historical analysis, I will not only be looking at what events in history influenced this play and the author, but how this play uses those historical influences are used to create a realistic screenshot of the 1940s Los Angeles. Los Angles was going through huge demographics changed in the early 1940 s. Mexican refugees were escaping the Mexican Revolution, farmers were fleeing the Dust bowl, and American service men rushed to Los Angeles because of World War II ( People Events ). The economy was booming from the war as American production increased. The youth was partaking in jazz culture and began wearing zoot suits. Because of the Sleepy Lagoon murders, the zoot suitwas associated with Mexican violence. Eventually, tensions rose between the rebelling Mexican American youth and Marines because the servicemen found it their responsibility to straighten the youth up. This led to the Zoot Suit Riotsof 1943 that left hundreds injured. As stated by the citizens committee investigating the riots; racism was the central cause of the riots ( People Events ). The script takes place before and during the riots and is intended portray the discrimination of the era. The author of the play, Luiz Valdez, is a 76 year old Mexican American male that is known to be the father of Chicanoplays. He earned a degree in theater from San Jose State University and founded El Teatro Campesino (Albert). El Teatro would perform for migrant farm workers. Valdez grew up working alongside his parents in the field. This led to Valdez be an activist; his theater would perform plays to aid the farm worker strikes by lifting the spirits of the protesters. For that, Valdez became an influential leader in the Chicano movement. He had interesting early life experiences that gave him inspiration for his plays. In Zoot Suit, the protagonist
