How Detergent Effect The Size Of Holes In The JELL-O
Problem How will the enzymes in the detergent effect the size of the holes in the JELL O? An enzyme
is any of various proteins, as pepsin, originating from living cells and capable of producing certain
chemical changes in organic substances by catalytic action, as in digestion. Detergents with enzymes

Our data that we collected during the experiment supported our hypothesis. When we came back to
school and checked our experiment the holes were much larger than they had started out as. The holes
with enzymes grew a lot more than the holes with the detergent without enzymes. Tide had the
greatest change in diameter when it expanded by 7mm. This was a great change compared to All
which didn t have enzymes. All only changed by 2mm. This is evidence that supported our hypothesis
that detergent with enzymes will expand the holes in the JELL O more than detergent without

First And Second Laws Of Thermodynamics For Living Systems
1. Explain the consequences of the first and second laws of thermodynamics for living systems. The
first law of thermodynamics states that all energy is constant, which as a consequence, or result,
means that energy can never be produced or destroyed but rather it is transformed. During the process
of energy being transformed some energy is typically lost as heat. Another result of energy being
transformed is the increase of entropy, or disorder. The increase of entropy and loss of energy is
referred to as the second law of thermodynamics.
2. Explain how life is able to adhere to the laws of thermodynamics and accomplish the following life
processes:
a. Growth Living organisms are able to grow as long as cells grow which survive by several inputs,
such as nutrients and oxygen. When cells grow it is typically referring to amount, not size. Cells
multiply by mitosis or meiosis, which require energy to occur. The first law of thermodynamic is
applied in which energy from macromolecules, such as enzymes, are transferred for the cellular
processes can take place, and thus the organism increases in growth.
b. Increase in Order An increase in order would occur when coupling a process that increases entropy

Explain how environmental conditions can affect enzyme function. Provide examples. Environmental
factors that can affect enzyme function include enzyme and substrate concentration, temperature, pH,
salinity, activators, and inhibitors. For example, the ideal temperature for enzymes to work properly is
the normal body temperature of 37°C (98.6°F) and if the body temperature increases or decreases at a
high rate, the enzymes will change and they will no longer be of any use to the body. Another example
would be the salinity, which is the concentration of salt. Change in salinity disrupts bonds and
enzymes are intolerant of extreme

Medical Studies Of Diabetes
Diabetes Due to the need for close monitoring of blood glucose and insulin level in the body, there
have been various studies done regarding the various insulin regimens that are available today. Before
we get into the details of the studies conducted, it is only relevant to give an overview of the problem
at hand. Type I Diabetes or as it also known juvenile onset diabetes is a disorder that is normally
diagnosed in young adults or children. This form of diabetes results from the destruction of the insulin
producing beta cells in the pancreas. With auto immune destruction being the most common cause,
type I diabetes is a lifelong disease. Insulin is the basic treatment for Diabetes in about 30% of the
diabetic patients in the United States. (Centers for Disease control, 2008)It should be noted that insulin
is present in three different forms and a person needs to take the regimen that is most suitable for
them. As mentioned earlier, too much insulin given at a time can cause a person to go in
hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is way more fatal than increased glucose levels. The 30 year old female
in our case was taking the Insulin Basal bolus that consisted of novo rapid and glargine. There has
been much concern over the efficacy of a basal regimen to a pre mixed insulin form. A study
conducted by Mathieu et. al (2013) was done to see how the change in regimen switch is tolerated.
This change is the opposite of what we are proposing for the 30 year old female. In the Atlantic

How Scheduled Maintenance Can Ultimately Save You Money
How Scheduled Maintenance Can Ultimately Save You Money
Keeping on top of your vehicle maintenance will cost some money. However, this investment can pay
big dividends down the road. Discover how people will know if the car has been well maintained and
the effect this will have on the value in a private sale or trade in situation at a car dealership. We ll also
outline several ways to find out what services are due on your vehicle and how to cut costs on these
important repairs.
The First Step in the Process
When you bring home that new or used vehicle the first thing you need to do is to create a dedicated
folder for it. There s a lot of paperwork associated with the purchase of an automobile and this belongs
in your folder. As time moves on you will collect receipts for motor vehicle records, warranty repairs,
completed recalls, maintenance services, parts and accessory purchases, cleaning supplies and detail
services. All of these things will go in your folder.
Very few sellers of automobiles have a rock solid organized history from the day the vehicle was
purchased, but now you will. If you sell the automobile to a private party you ll be able to instill a
level of confidence that your competition will not. Even if you decide to trade the vehicle at a
dealership they will have to consider these records into the value of the trade.
The Value of a Well maintained Automobile
There s no question that the condition of the automobile plays a large role in its value.

Anne Sexton The Bells
Anne Sexton was a troubled woman. She often felt neglected by her parents; unloved even, so much
so that she attempted suicide. Before she succeeded in 1974, Sexton used hundreds of poems to
confess her feelings. One such poem is The Bells , a seemingly simple memory of a trip to the circus.
However, poetry can never be looked at through one lens. Instead, one must look deeper to understand
the message the poet is attempting to convey. And so, through a different a lens, this memory becomes
a story of an incredibly complex father daughter relationship. Before analyzing the meaning, a reader
must first notice the style of the poem itself. Anne Sexton, being a part of the confessionalism period,
writes in first person. This deepens the suspicion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite this being only the first line, diction is already important. Sexton specifically chose the word
scabbed, as scabs cover wounds. Perhaps a scab is covering the wounded father daughter relationship.
Line 5 furthers this idea, as Sexton writes Father, do you remember? . This line is key in
understanding the father daughter relationship, as it has many meanings. For one, Sexton purposely
chose Father, rather than Dad or Daddy. Father is more formal; it shows the distance between father
and daughter. Sexton also asks this question because she wants to make sure this memory means as
much to him as it does to her. The idea is furthered by lines 9 10, as they read ...and how the bells/
trembled for the flying man. The reader must pay close attention to the bells, as it is the title. Sexton
uses this metaphor to symbolize the negative feelings to her father. The bells tremble, as Sexton would
have, because she is scared. This idea is contradicted, however, by the end of stanza one. Sexton
depicts a typical father daughter relationship; a child laughing on his shoulders. She depicts a
relationship she wishes she

Marketing Strategies Of The New Northern Beaches Hospital
3 Marketing strategies
The construction of the new Northern Beaches Hospital in Frenchs Forest has opened the opportunity
for the construction of a new Starlight Express Room. Thus requiring a new marketing strategy to
increase donations.
To increase donations a multiple segmentation strategy will be used within a main campaign and the
marketing mix will be adjusted to target each household life cycle. This ensures that the same quality
message in conveyed but relayed differently to reach each segment based on their needs. This strategy
creates a niche segment based on geographic locations.

3.4 Campaign Product
As a non for profit organisation the product is a service. For this campaign the service remains the
same for both households. The intangible nature and people involvement can affect the quality of
service. To avoid service dissatisfaction branding will ensure consistent communication to the
households so that emotional connections are made to initiate information searches that lead to
donations. For example, the purple and yellow colours will be used in all communication, as well as
the logo. These stimuli should trigger emotions or feelings, beliefs and behavioural intentions towards
the charity (Quester et al., 2014, p. 338). Thus, conditioning the target to think of the charity when it
sees similar colours and influence purchasing/donating behaviours. Clear brand guidelines will also
guide staff training, tone of voice and personality of the campaign.
3.5 Young Couple Without Children Household Marketing Mix

To be perceived as a superior children s charity with social benefits and the number one children s
charity in the Sydney Northern Beaches. The charity will differentiate from competitors by reinforcing
its desire to build a new Starlight Express Room in the area and consistently delivering excellent

DNA Technology Task 3 Poster
DNA fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a technique used in forensic science that
identifies individuals based on various characteristics of their DNA. Although the DNA sequences
between humans are 99.9% identical, DNA fingerprinting is able to distinguish between individuals
due to the presence of specific sequences within the non coding region of the genome known as
satellite DNA. This satellite DNA consists of long stretches of DNA made up of repeating base
sequences known as short tandem repeats (STR). These STRs considerably vary in length between
individuals, particularly between unrelated individuals, allowing exact individuals to be identified.
One major use of DNA fingerprinting is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the presence of negatively charged phosphate groups within the sugar phosphate backbone of
DNA, the DNA fragments diffuse through the gel towards the anode. The smaller fragments are more
able to penetrate through the gel and thus travel the furthest whereas the larger fragments travel a
shorter distance. The exact size in bases for each separated fragment in a given sample of DNA can be
determined by comparing each fragment against standard fragments of known length. This is
commonly known as a ladder within the laboratory. For the purposes of a crime scene investigation,
multiple DNA samples would be simultaneously run through the gel, Once separated, a DNA
fragmentation pattern is produced that allows the criminal to be identified. As shown in the figure
below, a DNA sample obtained from the crime scene is compared to two possible suspects. The
pattern of suspect 1 more closely matches the pattern of the DNA obtained from the crime scene thus
allowing the true criminal to be correctly identified. Similarly, for paternal testing, the DNA samples
of the mother and child are compared to the potential fathers. The fragmentation pattern of the child
should resemble both the mother and true father as half of child s alleles are inherited from the mother
and father. Male 1 resembled the child s

Comparison Of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
I agree with that quote because I believe that literature is much like art in the sense that you can look
at what someone has made and figure out how they think. Without words we as a species would never
have made it half as far as we have in such the relatively small time that we have been on this earth. It
is truly incredible how we are able process what is right from wrong in a split second, feel a whole
plethora of emotions all at once, and even solve tasks that are presented to us on a daily basis. All
because we have evolved over so many generations with the help of words to communicate with other
members of our species, and that is how literature truly allows us to see through the eyes of another
and in a way, even see their thought process and how truly unique we all are. I believe what makes us
human is our creativity and ingenuity as a species and those are the major traits that set us apart as
both a species and as individuals.
My book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it is the fourth book in the series but it is my favorite
of the seven. The book follows the perspective of Harry as he must compete against three other
wizards to win the Triwizard Tournament. Throughout the book Harry faces a series of obstacles that
he must overcome, the first problem he faces is he must find out who put his name into the Goblet of
Fire, this causes Harry to then face the internal conflict that is the feeling that someone is out to get
him. Towards the end it is revealed

The First Nations were one of canada s first victims. They were discriminated against, their land was

Wildlife Protection And Commercial Interests
Introduction
Throughout history, the battle between conserving the wildlife around us and the need for commercial
interests has led to many arguments. Wildlife protection refers to the practice of wild plant and animal
species and their habitats. A commercial interest encompasses a company with the purpose of
expanding or producing goods or services that are to be consumed by customers. When the road to
expansion first started, most people did not worry about cutting down a tree to build a home or
railroad. Now, however, the argument over what is moral and what is necessary has led to the question
of whether or not a wild animal should be protected or their habitat cut down in order to make more
room for housing or oil pipelines or other man made things. In this paper, I will be presenting
alternative positions on the topic of the differing priorities of wildlife protection and commercial
interests.
Perspective 1: Pro Wildlife Protection A conservationist is someone who advocates or acts for the
protection and preservation of the environment and wildlife. This particular group of people would
argue that protecting the existing wildlife is more important than other commercial interests.
To begin, conservationists would argue that wildlife has already deteriorated so much and so people
must conserve natural habitats for future generations of both people and animals to enjoy. For
example, there are 41,415 species currently on the International Union Conservation of Nature s

A very important aspect of a working society today is a spoken language. Being able to communicate
and understand one another through words opens up an abundance of doors for humanity. Taking
language to the next level was the creation of writing systems. Without a writing system, there would
be no way to document important events in history or to record facts that will help with further
developments. Writing systems not only help with the present, but with future developments. With a
spoken language you are only able to spread facts by word of mouth and eventually things will be
forgotten or warped, but with a writing system people are able to compose these things and can be
kept intact to be read and used for thousands of years. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Phonemes are units of sound that can very drastically change the meaning of a word. For example, the
words booth and both appear to be very similar, but are vastly different in their definitions. In the
Sumerian language, phonemes are mostly used with the vowels of their alphabet. In the English
language there are roughly 24 vowel sounds, while Cuneiform contains a mere 8 vowel sounds. Also,
there are 14 constants used in Cuneiform: b, p, t, d, g, k, z, s, sh, ch, r, l, m, and n. Sumerians did not
use these vowels and constants literally, but were translations made by studying the language.
Morphemes are the smallest grammatical units in a language. In The Sumerian language, people used
morphemes usually to make a word plural. These are known as plural markers. For example, the s in
the word books would be the morpheme that is making the word plural. Morphemes in modern day
are much more intricate, but this was the basic use in the fourth millennia. Cuneiform vowels include
short a, long a, short e, long e, short i, long i, short u, and long u. Cuneiform is very simple in context
compared to the English writing system, but in the era it was created, it was very complex considering
it was one of the first writing

Censorship In Music
Music is an expressive, vivid form of art. The influence of music has a huge impact with every age
group in the world. When people think of music they automatically think of how it makes them feel
which most of the time is good. They don t comprehend the provocative lyrics or what the song s
meaning really is. People have become used to this insulting and offensive language found on just
about any song. Every song being released today contains some sort of graphical, sexual, or explicit

Karen Dill, author of Violent rap lyrics make listeners more accepting of violence , states: Radio
personality Don Imus referred to a college women s basketball team as nappy headed ho s . Dill also
argues, ... many responded that the racist and sexist language was acceptable because the type of
language is used by minorities in rap music . Rap music has made their own image of what women are
in their eyes and this has caused others to treat females a certain way. Women have always been
portrayed as weak, feisty, helpless, property, and more. Females start to believe this about themselves
having low self esteem, not wanting to be in relationships, and thinking they aren t good enough. In
reality, they might not feel that way, but that s how they are talked about in music so they believe they
need to be that way. According to the author of The public should criticize violent music lyrics,
women are objectified, often in the most obscene and degrading ways (Brownback). For example,

disgusting comments towards women calling her a bitch , stank hoe , dumb bitch , and a chickenhead

Huckleberry Finn

December 10, 1884. This picaresque novel takes place in the mid 1800s in St. Petersburg, Missouri

character is young delinquent boy named Huckleberry Finn. He doesn t have a mother and his father is

People from the south, especially the deep south like Missouri didn t want to be seen in that kind of
way. They felt like they were more than just some racist and uneducated fools. Pearl James assertion
of how Twain creates the impression of American folk culture through his use of dialect and phonetic
spelling, which mimics speech, rather than writing is valid because in the real world people are not all
the same, everyone is different. Their actions are different the way they speak and the vocabulary is
different. Twain wanted to use this information and put it into his writing. He creates various dialects
to all the characters he adds into his novel. For example, one reason why this book was first band from
schools and libraries was because it had a vigorous debate over the numerous appearance of the N
word. As awful and disrespectful word that is, Twain used it over and over again throughout the novel.
The reason being was because that s how people talked back then. He wanted his novel to be as
accurate as he can make it. Furthermore, without the use of this word the novel and dialect would
change dramatically. It wouldn t seem to give it that extra kick to make the reader feel like they were

De La Poer s The Rats In The Walls
The Rats in the Walls tells the story of the last living descendent of the de la Poer line, who learns of
his family heritage. The de la Poers formerly inhabited a property called Exham Priory in Wales,
before Walter Delapore, his direct ancestor, killed off the remainder of his family and fled to Virginia
to begin a new life. De la Poer, stricken with the death of his only son, resolves to move back to
Britain and restore his family s home to its former glory. Over a century, Exham Priory has fallen into
a state of squalor; yet, no cost will deter de la Poer from his mission. He finds that Exham Priory is a
very peculiar construction with a very long history. Once an ancient Druidic temple, it was
appropriated and styled by the invading Romans, and later the resident Saxons. Each culture added
their own elements to the structure, resulting in a medieval castle on the outside with increasingly
ancient architecture as one went deeper. The de la Poer family acquired the site in 1261, and thus
began a very strange lineage, hated by the local peasantry, which became the monstrous subject of
many folktales involving demons, rats, and the disappearance of villagers over many generations.
According to legend, the de la Poers haunted the property until Walter Delapore, a chivalrous and
delicate man, suddenly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
De la Poer resolves to spend a night in the sub cellar, where he is joined by Norrys and his favorite
cat, a black cat with an unfortunately racist name who is often referred to in future editions of this
story as Black Tom. Upon waking up in the night to the sound of rats, de la Poer finds Black Tom
frantically pawing at a small crack in the largest altar in the room. It is revealed upon closer
examination that this is, in fact, a secret

The Fifth Amendment And The Rights During Arrest, Trial,...
No matter what the crime is, the Constitution is supposed to help protect the accused s rights during
arrest, trial, and sentencing. The Sixth Amendment clearly states that In all criminal prosecutions, the
accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district
wherein the crime shall have been committed... and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense .
If the accused is found to be guilty, the Eighth Amendment is there to protect us from the possibility of
cruel and unusual punishment. This is something as an American we all expect and we all assume is
what happens, but what if you re a minority, or have a mental impairment and you re facing the death
penalty, can you expect the same rights? Recent studies have shown that while the use of the death
penalty have gone down over the years since it was reinstated in 1976, there is still a staggering
number of statics showing inequality in the application of its use. A law professor from the University
of Iowa, David C. Baldus and two colleagues published a study not long after the reinstatement of the
death penalty in 1976 (Dow, 2011). In this study it looked at over 2,000 homicide cases just within
Georgia alone beginning in 1972, what they found was startling (Dow, 2011). Baldus found that black
defendants were 1.7 times more likely to be given the death penalty than white defendants and those
who murdered white victims were actually 4.3 times more apt to be

Life Care Center Of West Bridgewater
One of the many things that attracted me to nursing was the variety of positions a nurse can be
employed in. Personally, I have a few positions that I am thinking of applying to once I finish the
program and pass the NCLEX PN. The very first place I will apply to is the facility I work in, the Life
Care Center of West Bridgewater. It is a skilled nursing home and rehabilitation center that is divided
into long and short term floors. There, I can grow and gain experience as an LPN, particularly on the
short term floor named Nantucket. I would continue to work there per diem on the weekends, in hopes
of getting my dream job working full time at a doctor s office in either women s health or pediatrics.
My desired shift for Life Care would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many Life Cares in the area and even more throughout the country! Additionally, I am
thinking of applying to Fitchburg State University to their LPN BSN program.Since there is a Life
Care in Fitchburg, working there while going to FSU would be appropriate. I would simply have to do
an internal transfer from the Life Care in West Bridgewater to the one in Fitchburg. I could work
nights 11 7 part time and go to class afterwards. Being that it is a three year program, I would like to
get this done as soon as possible. I plan to take classes throughout my winter and summer breaks. I
would like to work all throughout my time during the program. After I am done and take the NCLEX
RN, my goal is to be working in hospice. Five years from now, my dream is to have gotten my BSN
and work as a hospice nurse. With the experience that I would have gained during those five years
working in long term care, I would teach as a nursing professor. Even though I would eventually need
a master s in education, teaching students that love nursing as much as I do sounds interesting. With
the nursing shortage at it s all time high, it s important for new, incoming nurses to have dedicated and
caring professors. I consider myself lucky to have been accepted into a program that offers just that.
Being a professor would be my way of giving back of what has been given to me. On the contrary, I
have had my fair share of bad experiences with nursing professors.

The Auschwitz Protocols
By 1941, the Holocaust was merely starting to increase. However, mass ngs didn t begin till around

March of 1941 when Polish Army Captain Witold Pilecki volunteered to be detained at Auschwitz. In
October of 1941, he sent various reports about the camp and the genocide going on there to polish
resistance headquarters in Warsaw. Policies, reports were being sent to the Western Allies (On). The

Rust And Tears. The Pitter Patter Of The Rain Against The
Rust and Tears The pitter patter of the rain against the attic window was a soft, constant sound. It felt
to Joyce as though the rest of the world were mourning with her and the thought comforted her in a
strange and sad way. The world was an infinitely duller place without her grandmother, Annabelle,
and it was felt by many. The funeral and reception had been over for only a few hours, but Joyce
found that she couldn t sleep and would rather be productive than stare at the water stain on the corner
of her ceiling that her grandmother had always hated. Her grandfather, Randall, wasn t able to sleep
either after a late night shared over stale and bitter tea. To help grieve, they decided they should sort

Taking advantage of the seat, she sat down, and held the box inquisitively. After examining the box,
for what felt like a moment, she fingered the lid off and found a plethora of aged letters, pictures and
even some ripped up pieces of old notebook paper. It distinctly and heartbreakingly smelled of rust
and tears. She gently picked up a few of the items for closer inspection when she heard a clanking
thud against the wooden floors. She looked down to find a brass heart shaped necklace that looked old
and worn, obviously loved and beginning to rust from age. She picked it up tenderly, fearing she
would break the fragile looking necklace. She looked closer to better make out the brass engraving,
which was a molding of a small, beautiful tree of life, which is now nearly covered in rust. Fingering
the back as she held it, she found her fingers caught on an uneven surface, and flipped it over to
investigate. It was a second engraving that was faded, she moved the locket closer to her face to read
it. Upon doing this, she discovered a distinct smell, which she was surprised to find she immediately
recognized. It smelled like rust and tears. The faded engraving, which read Anna + Marcus surprised
her, as she was expecting to find her grandfather s name next to her grandmother s. She sorted through
the box to see the same name addressed in the letters and realized it must have been someone of

How Did Myrtle Wilson Fail In The Great Gatsby
The failure of the American Dream
The novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream. The American
Dream is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success through
hard work. The failure of the American Dream is represented by Myrtle Wilson, Daisy Buchanan, and
Jay Gatsby.
Myrtle Wilson s dream is to have an opulent, happy life. One reason why her American Dream fails is
because of Daisy Buchanan. In The Great Gatsby, it says, [...] until I realized that her eyes, wide with
jealous terror, were fixed not on Tom, but on Jordan Baker, whom she took to be his wife (Fitzgerald,
125). Myrtle is jealous of Daisy because she wants to be with Tom. She is not happy with her life.
Another reason why her American Dream fails is because of George Wilson. In The Great Gatsby,
Myrtle states, She smiled slowly and, walking through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gatsby himself is a reason why his American Dream fails. In The Great Gatsby, the book states, And

bedrooms swathed in rose and lavender silk and vivid with new flowers, through dressing rooms and
poolrooms, and bathrooms, with sunken baths [...] (Fitzgerald, 91). Gatsby thinks he can impress
Daisy and win her back by showing his wealth. Gatsby cannot discern that by trying to get Daisy, he
can t tell the difference between what is right and wrong. He does not get to be with Daisy because of
Tom. Tom is a reason why his American Dream fails. In The Great Gatsby, the book expresses, In
June she married Tom Buchanan of Chicago, with more pomp and circumstance than Louisville every
knew before (Fitzgerald, 75). Daisy married Tom Buchanan while Gatsby was fighting in the war. If

Christianity In The Matrix
Although The Matrix does not explicitly reveal any connections to the Christian faith, many can be
deduced from the symbols and messages portrayed throughout the movie. As such, many figures
presented in the Bible can be seen throughout the entirety of the film. Neo being the central character
in The Matrix can be compared to Christ in the way that he is portrayed to be the savior of the people
living in a false reality. Furthermore, Neo s name can be rearranged into the word One , alluding to the
Chosen One, which to Christians further stresses his symbolic relationship to Jesus Christ. In addition,
Neo undergoes many experiences that relate to various events in the life of Jesus. An occurrence such
as Jesus recognition by John the Baptist

The Ways We Lie, By Ericsson
Most of the people lies and doublespeak when they are desperate to escape from situations that they
can t say the truth. For example, a dad can t say that his wife died to his children because they can be
shocked in a young age. In this book, The Ways We Lie , Ericsson talks about the types of lies and
how they are used. The other book, The World of Doublespeak , Lutz shows the types of double
speaking and the examples. A lie is a false statement or action especially made with the intent to
deceive and doublespeak is language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t. Both of them
are saying the false statement to someone but doublespeak is making the people to be understood in
several ways. Whereas, lying is just saying a false statement, doublespeak is half false and true
statement making people confused by numerous understandings. ... Show more content on

For example The white lie assumes that the truth will cause more damage than a simple, harmless
untruth. (Ericsson 121). By saying a white lie, it can relieve the anxiety of a person who actually has a
big damage in his/her body. Lying can cause a negative effect because people who misunderstood
might occur problems which might be risky. However, lying can be very effective. In life, there are
certain stations where you just have to lie. In society, just by people changing their clothings can make
other people think differently. When I put on a suit to go to see a client, I feel as though I am putting
on another face. (Ericsson 122). Even if a poor person wears a nice suit, people will automatically
think that person is a formal person. Lying can change a person s view but is not a right way to do

Gifted Education In Public Schools
In recent years, gifted education programs have received extensive attention from a multitude of
groups, in many cases arousing passionate arguments about their effectiveness, or even their
fundamentality. Angry parents complain about budget cuts from these programs, while others are
furious that their child was not accepted into a gifted program. Teachers are also divided on this issue.
Some teachers believe gifted programs are very important for engaging high achieving students, while
others believe they hold back students who are not accepted. Still others have too little knowledge of
the issue to create an informed opinion, even though it directly relates to their work. Many do not
know how to identify gifted students so they can recommend ... Show more content on

A study by Saiying Steenbergen Hu and Paula Olszewski Kubilius notes that gifted programs often
encourage gifted students to remain in public schools rather than transferring to private ones, thus
enriching the intellectual diversity of public schools (Steenbergen Hu et al 33). If they remain in
public schools, gifted students can contribute valuable ideas to class discussions, and they can share
their expertise with classmates, creating a better learning environment for all students. In addition, a
study by Jessica Hockett found that students in gifted programs could act as guinea pigs for
experimental educational policies (Hockett 26 27). Because of their advanced abilities, these students
could easily adapt to make up for loss of instructional time if these programs proved ineffective.
However, if they proved effective, they could improve curricula for general and gifted education alike.
Hockett recognized differences in the characteristics of these programs, but argued that they share
certain core concepts, such as authenticity, applicability, and flexibility, which make them fairly
interchangeable (Hockett

In order to sound convincing, the first stage of our research we would like to devote to Lewis Carroll s
achievements as a gifted writer and his contribution to the world literature. It could be easily traced
that his young years were happy. Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson on January 27,
1832. Dodgson was the eldest son and third child in a family of seven girls and four boys born to
Frances Jane Lutwidge, the wife of the Reverend Charles Dodgson. His father was perpetual curate
from 1827 until 1843, when he became rector of Croft in Yorkshire a post he held until his death. As it
has been already mentioned, Carroll had a happy childhood. His mother was patient and gentle, and
his father tutored all of his children and raised them to be good people. The family lived in an isolated
country village and had few friends outside the family but found little difficulty in entertaining
themselves. Charles showed a great aptitude for inventing games to amuse them. He wrote a series of
family magazines throughout his childhood, containing poetry, drawing, and prose. In 1846 1849
Dodgson attended Rugby School, from which he graduated to Christ Church College, Oxford. In 1854
he was awarded a degree in mathematics, and the following year he began work as a Lecturer at Christ
Church in that subject and after taking holy orders, including the commitment not to marry,

The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the
days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the
world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse.
In this gray, dull world there is little in the way of color or light to be seen. The sky has become gray,
and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of
color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity
of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old world and new, and
between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this
contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and
boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in
wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak
landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man
and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands
they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This
darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with
corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral
corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity.
Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt
world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s
ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown
into. Whereas the man s wife ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option
presented to them, the man is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man
is left with a sole

III. Informatives
A. quot;It seems clear that the California Legislature has determined that incarceration is not
appropriate for many criminal offenses and that alternative sanctions are preferable for non violent
offenders. quot; (Randy Meyer, Political
Official) B. But while this approach is to be applauded, its spreading prevents the fulfillment of its
true potential. C. quot;By retaining those non violent offenders that are currently in state prison and
continuing to pursue defensive punishment at the local level in the form of short term quot;shock
incarceration quot; and bootcamps, the costly and ineffective methods of criminal behavior correction
remain intact. quot; (Charles Calderon US News) D. By immediately eliminating incarceration for all
non violent offenses and requiring victim compensation and community service, resources can be
committed to preventing crime rather than to the feeding and housing of offenders. E. This is
consistent with the findings of the legislature and is cost efficient, requires minimal systemic change,
and increases public safety and security.

  • 3. First And Second Laws Of Thermodynamics For Living Systems 1. Explain the consequences of the first and second laws of thermodynamics for living systems. The first law of thermodynamics states that all energy is constant, which as a consequence, or result, means that energy can never be produced or destroyed but rather it is transformed. During the process of energy being transformed some energy is typically lost as heat. Another result of energy being transformed is the increase of entropy, or disorder. The increase of entropy and loss of energy is referred to as the second law of thermodynamics. 2. Explain how life is able to adhere to the laws of thermodynamics and accomplish the following life processes: a. Growth Living organisms are able to grow as long as cells grow which survive by several inputs, such as nutrients and oxygen. When cells grow it is typically referring to amount, not size. Cells multiply by mitosis or meiosis, which require energy to occur. The first law of thermodynamic is applied in which energy from macromolecules, such as enzymes, are transferred for the cellular processes can take place, and thus the organism increases in growth. b. Medical Studies Of Diabetes Diabetes Due to the need for close monitoring of blood glucose and insulin level in the body, there have been various studies done regarding the various insulin regimens that are available today. Before we get into the details of the studies conducted, it is only relevant to give an overview of the problem at hand. Type I Diabetes or as it also known juvenile onset diabetes is a disorder that is normally diagnosed in young adults or children. This form of diabetes results from the destruction of the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. With auto immune destruction being the most common cause, type I diabetes is a lifelong disease. Insulin is the basic treatment for Diabetes in about 30% of the diabetic patients in the United States. (Centers for Disease control, 2008)It should be noted that insulin is present in three different forms and a person needs to take the regimen that is most suitable for them. As mentioned earlier, too much insulin given at a time can cause a person to go in hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is way more fatal than increased glucose levels. The 30 year old female in our case was taking the Insulin Basal bolus that consisted of novo rapid and glargine. There has been much concern over the efficacy of a basal regimen to a pre mixed insulin form. A study conducted by Mathieu et. al (2013) was done to see how the change in regimen switch is tolerated. This change is the opposite of what we are proposing for the 30 year old female. In the Atlantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, this investment can pay big dividends down the road. Discover how people will know if the car has been well maintained and the effect this will have on the value in a private sale or trade in situation at a car dealership. We ll also outline several ways to find out what services are due on your vehicle and how to cut costs on these important repairs. The First Step in the Process When you bring home that new or used vehicle the first thing you need to do is to create a dedicated folder for it. There s a lot of paperwork associated with the purchase of an automobile and this belongs in your folder. As time moves on you will collect receipts for motor vehicle records, warranty repairs, completed recalls, maintenance services, parts and accessory purchases, cleaning supplies and detail services. All of these things will go in your folder. Very few sellers of automobiles have a rock solid organized history from the day the vehicle was purchased, but now you will. If you sell the automobile to a private party you ll be able to instill a level of confidence that your competition will not. Even if you decide to trade the vehicle at a dealership they will have to consider these records into the value of the trade. • 9. Anne Sexton The Bells Anne Sexton was a troubled woman. She often felt neglected by her parents; unloved even, so much so that she attempted suicide. Before she succeeded in 1974, Sexton used hundreds of poems to confess her feelings. One such poem is The Bells , a seemingly simple memory of a trip to the circus. However, poetry can never be looked at through one lens. Instead, one must look deeper to understand the message the poet is attempting to convey. And so, through a different a lens, this memory becomes a story of an incredibly complex father daughter relationship. Before analyzing the meaning, a reader must first notice the style of the poem itself. Anne Sexton, being a part of the confessionalism period, writes in first person. This deepens the suspicion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite this being only the first line, diction is already important. Sexton specifically chose the word scabbed, as scabs cover wounds. Perhaps a scab is covering the wounded father daughter relationship. Line 5 furthers this idea, as Sexton writes Father, do you remember? . This line is key in understanding the father daughter relationship, as it has many meanings. For one, Sexton purposely chose Father, rather than Dad or Daddy. Father is more formal; it shows the distance between father and daughter. Sexton also asks this question because she wants to make sure this memory means as much to him as it does to her. The idea is furthered by lines 9 10, as they read ...and how the bells/ trembled for the flying man. The reader must pay close attention to the bells, as it is the title. Sexton uses this metaphor to symbolize the negative feelings to her father. The bells tremble, as Sexton would have, because she is scared. This idea is contradicted, however, by the end of stanza one. Sexton depicts a typical father daughter relationship; a child laughing on his shoulders. She depicts a relationship she wishes she ... Science DNA Technology Task 3 Poster DNA fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a technique used in forensic science that identifies individuals based on various characteristics of their DNA. Although the DNA sequences between humans are 99.9% identical, DNA fingerprinting is able to distinguish between individuals due to the presence of specific sequences within the non coding region of the genome known as satellite DNA. This satellite DNA consists of long stretches of DNA made up of repeating base sequences known as short tandem repeats (STR). These STRs considerably vary in length between individuals, particularly between unrelated individuals, allowing exact individuals to be identified. One major use of DNA fingerprinting is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the presence of negatively charged phosphate groups within the sugar phosphate backbone of DNA, the DNA fragments diffuse through the gel towards the anode. The smaller fragments are more able to penetrate through the gel and thus travel the furthest whereas the larger fragments travel a shorter distance. The exact size in bases for each separated fragment in a given sample of DNA can be determined by comparing each fragment against standard fragments of known length. This is commonly known as a ladder within the laboratory. For the purposes of a crime scene investigation, multiple DNA samples would be simultaneously run through the gel, Once separated, a DNA fragmentation pattern is produced that allows the criminal to be identified. As shown in the figure below, a DNA sample obtained from the crime scene is compared to two possible suspects. • 12. Comparison Of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire I agree with that quote because I believe that literature is much like art in the sense that you can look at what someone has made and figure out how they think. Without words we as a species would never have made it half as far as we have in such the relatively small time that we have been on this earth. It is truly incredible how we are able process what is right from wrong in a split second, feel a whole plethora of emotions all at once, and even solve tasks that are presented to us on a daily basis. All because we have evolved over so many generations with the help of words to communicate with other members of our species, and that is how literature truly allows us to see through the eyes of another and in a way, even see their thought process and how truly unique we all are. I believe what makes us human is our creativity and ingenuity as a species and those are the major traits that set us apart as both a species and as individuals. My book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it is the fourth book in the series but it is my favorite of the seven. The book follows the perspective of Harry as he must compete against three other wizards to win the Triwizard Tournament. Throughout the book Harry faces a series of obstacles that he must overcome, the first problem he faces is he must find out who put his name into the Goblet of Fire, this causes Harry to then face the internal conflict that is the feeling that someone is out to get him. Wildlife Protection And Commercial Interests Introduction Throughout history, the battle between conserving the wildlife around us and the need for commercial interests has led to many arguments. Wildlife protection refers to the practice of wild plant and animal species and their habitats. A commercial interest encompasses a company with the purpose of expanding or producing goods or services that are to be consumed by customers. When the road to expansion first started, most people did not worry about cutting down a tree to build a home or railroad. Now, however, the argument over what is moral and what is necessary has led to the question of whether or not a wild animal should be protected or their habitat cut down in order to make more room for housing or oil pipelines or other man made things. In this paper, I will be presenting alternative positions on the topic of the differing priorities of wildlife protection and commercial interests. Perspective 1: Pro Wildlife Protection A conservationist is someone who advocates or acts for the protection and preservation of the environment and wildlife. This particular group of people would argue that protecting the existing wildlife is more important than other commercial interests. To begin, conservationists would argue that wildlife has already deteriorated so much and so people must conserve natural habitats for future generations of both people and animals to enjoy. They felt like they were more than just some racist and uneducated fools. Pearl James assertion of how Twain creates the impression of American folk culture through his use of dialect and phonetic spelling, which mimics speech, rather than writing is valid because in the real world people are not all the same, everyone is different. Their actions are different the way they speak and the vocabulary is different. Twain wanted to use this information and put it into his writing. He creates various dialects to all the characters he adds into his novel. For example, one reason why this book was first band from schools and libraries was because it had a vigorous debate over the numerous appearance of the N word. As awful and disrespectful word that is, Twain used it over and over again throughout the novel. The reason being was because that s how people talked back then. He wanted his novel to be as accurate as he can make it. Furthermore, without the use of this word the novel and dialect would change dramatically. It wouldn t seem to give it that extra kick to make the reader feel like they were there listening to the character s conversation. He uses this specific type of language to access the culture and to accurately define a character and to make it more believable, complex, and therefore dignified. Or it can make them seem merely uneducated, and caricatured. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. De La Poer s The Rats In The Walls The Rats in the Walls tells the story of the last living descendent of the de la Poer line, who learns of his family heritage. The de la Poers formerly inhabited a property called Exham Priory in Wales, before Walter Delapore, his direct ancestor, killed off the remainder of his family and fled to Virginia to begin a new life. De la Poer, stricken with the death of his only son, resolves to move back to Britain and restore his family s home to its former glory. Over a century, Exham Priory has fallen into a state of squalor; yet, no cost will deter de la Poer from his mission. He finds that Exham Priory is a very peculiar construction with a very long history. Once an ancient Druidic temple, it was appropriated and styled by the invading Romans, and later the resident Saxons. Each culture added their own elements to the structure, resulting in a medieval castle on the outside with increasingly ancient architecture as one went deeper. The de la Poer family acquired the site in 1261, and thus began a very strange lineage, hated by the local peasantry, which became the monstrous subject of many folktales involving demons, rats, and the disappearance of villagers over many generations. • 21. The Fifth Amendment And The Rights During Arrest, Trial,... No matter what the crime is, the Constitution is supposed to help protect the accused s rights during arrest, trial, and sentencing. The Sixth Amendment clearly states that In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed... and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense . If the accused is found to be guilty, the Eighth Amendment is there to protect us from the possibility of cruel and unusual punishment. This is something as an American we all expect and we all assume is what happens, but what if you re a minority, or have a mental impairment and you re facing the death penalty, can you expect the same rights? Recent studies have shown that while the use of the death penalty have gone down over the years since it was reinstated in 1976, there is still a staggering number of statics showing inequality in the application of its use. A law professor from the University of Iowa, David C. Baldus and two colleagues published a study not long after the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976 (Dow, 2011). In this study it looked at over 2,000 homicide cases just within Georgia alone beginning in 1972, what they found was startling (Dow, 2011). Baldus found that black defendants were 1.7 times more likely to be given the death penalty than white defendants and those who murdered white victims were actually 4.3 times more apt to be ... I would simply have to do an internal transfer from the Life Care in West Bridgewater to the one in Fitchburg. I could work nights 11 7 part time and go to class afterwards. Being that it is a three year program, I would like to get this done as soon as possible. I plan to take classes throughout my winter and summer breaks. I would like to work all throughout my time during the program. After I am done and take the NCLEX RN, my goal is to be working in hospice. Five years from now, my dream is to have gotten my BSN and work as a hospice nurse. With the experience that I would have gained during those five years working in long term care, I would teach as a nursing professor. Even though I would eventually need a master s in education, teaching students that love nursing as much as I do sounds interesting. With the nursing shortage at it s all time high, it s important for new, incoming nurses to have dedicated and caring professors. It felt to Joyce as though the rest of the world were mourning with her and the thought comforted her in a strange and sad way. The world was an infinitely duller place without her grandmother, Annabelle, and it was felt by many. The funeral and reception had been over for only a few hours, but Joyce found that she couldn t sleep and would rather be productive than stare at the water stain on the corner of her ceiling that her grandmother had always hated. Because of their advanced abilities, these students could easily adapt to make up for loss of instructional time if these programs proved ineffective. In order to sound convincing, the first stage of our research we would like to devote to Lewis Carroll s achievements as a gifted writer and his contribution to the world literature. It could be easily traced that his young years were happy. Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson on January 27, 1832. Dodgson was the eldest son and third child in a family of seven girls and four boys born to Frances Jane Lutwidge, the wife of the Reverend Charles Dodgson. His father was perpetual curate from 1827 until 1843, when he became rector of Croft in Yorkshire a post he held until his death. As it has been already mentioned, Carroll had a happy childhood. His mother was patient and gentle, and his father tutored all of his children and raised them to be good people. The family lived in an isolated country village and had few friends outside the family but found little difficulty in entertaining themselves. Charles showed a great aptitude for inventing games to amuse them. He wrote a series of family magazines throughout his childhood, containing poetry, drawing, and prose. In 1846 1849 Dodgson attended Rugby School, from which he graduated to Christ Church College, Oxford. • 30. The Use Of Light And Light In Cormac Mccarthy s The Road The novel The Road is a tale filled with evil and darkness with nights dark beyond darkness and the days more gray than what had gone before (McCarthy ). An unspecified apocalypse has razed the world and nearly all of human civilization, leaving a desolate world for a man and his son to traverse. In this gray, dull world there is little in the way of color or light to be seen. The sky has become gray, and the sun has been obscured, reduced to a faint, dim light. In this dark, achromatic world the use of color and light is reserved for objects and ideas of importance. Cormac McCarthy utilizes this scarcity of light and color throughout the novel to provide contrast between the old world and new, and between good and evil and to draw attention to important object and topics. The primary use of this contrast between light and dark is the man and boy s metaphorical task to carry the fire. The man and boy are stuck trudging day by day in a barren, scorched landscape of gray, endlessly foraging in wasted buildings for food and supplies (Hage 140). Murderers, cannibals, and thieves roam the bleak landscape, and evidence of their evils is witnessed at every turn of the pair s ill fated journey. The man and boy are one of the few people still holding on to their humanity in this wasteland that demands they abandon it in order to survive. The world that they inhabit is one of absolute darkness. This darkness ecompases not only the physical darkness and inhospitidy of the landscape littered with corpses, the sun blotted out, flora and fauna dead, [and] the seas poisoned, but also the moral corruption that has engulfed humanity. In this expanse of darkness the man and boy are just an oddity. Two of the last of the survivors carrying the fire and serving as a pocket of goodness in a corrupt world. Additionally, the boy s role as this metaphorical fire serves an important role in the man s ethical dilemma. The man has little desire to live in the world that he has been involuntarily thrown into. Whereas the man s wife ultimately came to the conclusion that suicide was the only sane option presented to them, the man is much more hesitant. After watching his life crumble around him the man is left with a sole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
