The Sarbanes Oxley ( Sox ) Act Of 2002
The Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Act of 2002 was legislated by Congress to restore reliability of
financial statements with the objectives to raise standards of corporate accountability, to not only
improve detection, but to also prevent fraud and abuse (Terando Kurtenbach, 2009). Additionally,
SOX was the response to general failure of business ethics such as the propagation of abusive tax
shelters and greater aggressive tax avoidance strategies (Raabe, Whittenburg, Sanders, Sawyers,
2015).
Tax Advantages of Sarbanes Oxley
Considering the tax planning, SOX identify the potential risks of the similar firm conducting both
tax services and auditing for a business by changing the relationship between the audit Committee
of company and external auditors, thus providing a new obligation for the tax services to be pre
approved by the audit committee while the auditors are not limited from the tax services they can
offer (Piotroski Srinivasan, 2007). The Security Exchange Commission specifies that the audit
committee in charge of retention and appointment of auditors must examine first, transactions
primarily suggested by the accountant of the firm, secondly transactions which the only purpose is
tax evasion, and lastly the treatment of tax that may not be assisted by the Internal Revenue Code
of the United States and associated regulations (Piotroski Srinivasan, 2007). Tax evasion constitutes
the illegal nonpayment of tax and cannot be condoned (Raabe, et al., 2015). Those three

John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism
The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective
assessment of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions
that people take to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the
standards for happiness utilizing John Stuart Mills Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all
people at different levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only
subjective standards at its higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of
happiness based upon their faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater
good through their actions. Mill makes it clear early in his work that... Show more content on

Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He
states, Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become
conscious of them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification
(Mill, 5). This comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable
pleasures. Humans mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher
the person s faculties, the higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality
of happiness is therefore subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of
happiness with significantly different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily
and understands more about philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to
understand this level of happiness. These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to
animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that once people are made aware of their possession of higher
faculties, they will not be happy when these are

Merri Creek Case Study

WORD COUNT:
INTRODUCTION:
Our sites (Figure 1.) were spread along the lowest reach of Merri Creek before it runs into the
Yarra River. As a direct result of this there is an extensive valley from the constant presence of
fluvial processes over geological time. The landform patterns at our sites were extensively
governed by the movement and availability of water, with escarpments, gullies, cliffs and spurs of
varying steepness all observed. Figure 1. Topographic map of the meandering form of Merri Creek

Wurundjeri People(39000BC 1835) were hunter/gatherers and actively managed the environment
such that they did not permanently deplete its resources. The creek and surrounding lands were
important to Aborigines for food, shelter and travel. Where Merri Creek and the Yarra Riverjoin at
Dights Falls (site 6) was once an important Aboriginal meeting place. (Jackson, 2018) The area
was then used pastorally and subsequently deforested to be used for agriculture, mostly as grazing
land for livestock (1835 1850).
Now the surrounding area consists mainly of residential development of houses and recreational
facilities (1850 present). (City of Melbourne, 2018)
This area along Merri Creek now has two main uses; recreation (Merri Creek bike and walking
Trail, Rotunda Wetland, Geofrey Knott reserve) (walking paths, viewing platforms and seating
areas) and transport (Merri Creek Trail, Heidelberg Rd/Eastern Freeway)
Extensive amounts of litter were observed both in (figure 8) and around the creek, this aspect of

Why People Should Not Go To Mars
Imagine going on a six billion dollar rocket ship and never seeing your family or friends again.
The astronauts will risk their lives because it is a dangerous expedition and could easily fail if
the people die from lack of oxygen. Colonizing Mars is a terrible idea there is no natural source
of water, if Mars One sends them they cannot come back once they arrive there, and someone
could get sick and die before they get there. The people that go to mars are risking their lives
they can die of many things, including lack of oxygen and sickness. There is no atmosphere on
Mars so therefore there is no oxygen which all humans need. The people will try to make an
atmosphere by planting plants which let off oxygen, which could easily fail. Some... Show more

The trip is about eight months long and there is no natural source of water on Mars. There could
be a disease on Mars that s not on Earth and if someone gets it there are no doctors or medicine on
Mars. One of the people could get hurt, for example, someone can receive a huge cut and die
from loss of blood since there are no doctors on Mars. No one knows what will happen if you get
a cut on mars the dust could infect the cut. Therefore people should not go to mars if they don t
know how dangerous it is. The astronauts that go might get dehydrated from not having a natural
source of water. They could extract water from the ground, but the water could have harmful
chemicals mars one says they will store 1500 liters of water in each life support unit . The
participants will have to live on what they brought with them. The mission to Mars is already
estimated to cost 6 billion dollars. They would have to bring their own food and water. To
conclude people may die from the lack of supplies.
In conclusion, colonizing Mars is a terrible idea There is no known natural source of water,
Once you get there you cannot come back , and If you get sick, the astronauts can die since there
since no doctors or medicine. Above all it is a really dangerous place to live at and could be a life

Arthur Lubow Research Paper
In 2003, Arthur Lubow wrote an article in the New York Times titled, The Secret of the Black
Paintings. He believes that Goya s Black Paintings were actually painted by someone else. The
Black Paintings ornamented the wall of Goya s Quinta del Sordo. Art Historian, Junquera,
studied the Black Paintings, and, given the evidence, he believes they were actually painted by
Goya s son, Javier. Javier was a businessman, not a painter, so he probably sold his paintings as
his fathers to make extra money. Another clue that they were not painted by Goya is that they are
more modern than his other pieces. The style that they were painted in emerged after Goya s death.
No visitors of Quinta del Sordo reported seeing them. No sad, dark paintings

better title than The Prisoner ?
In the short story The Guest by Albert Camus, irony is show in many aspects throughout the
story. In the main title, the irony of it is that the word guest is not necessarily used to really
describe a guest, because the guest is the prisoner of the French government. The arab prisoner,
had been convicted of supposingly killing his cousin while they were in the village, the police
want to get the arab prisoner to France for a trial regarding his conviction. The short story ``The
Guest is much more appropriate rather than titling the story The Prisoner because, the story isn t
based on the Prisoner and his choices and decisions, but more towards Daru and the duties he
had to fufill as he was the host. 5. This story has as its background a specific political situation
the French Algerian crisis in the years following World War II. How does Daru reflect France s
plight? Is the story s meaning limited to this situation? What does the story tell us about good and
evil and the nature of moral choice?
In the short story The Guest by Albert Camus, Daru s predicament goes hand in hand with France s
difficulties and Camus self appreciation. In the short story The Guest we are introduced to see Daru

Bacon s Rebellion Research Paper
In 1676, the English colony of Virginia experienced a revolt. This revolt, led by Nathaniel Bacon,
was backed largely by lower class, white farmers, and was directed towards both the rich
landowning Virginian farmers and the nearby Native Americans. This revolt, now known as Bacon
s Rebellion, reflected both the racial and class tensions held by the majority of settlers in
seventeenth century Virginia, and would greatly affect the dynamics of colonial society. Bacon s
Rebellion was caused due a myriad of racial conflicts. The Virginian colonists had had several
smaller raids and battles with the Powhatan Native Americans before the actual rebellion began.
Neither group fully trusted the other, but an uneasy peace was reached between the two through
trade; the Native... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when Chief Powhatan died in 1618, his brother, Opechancanough, immediately attacked
the colonists. The settlers then launched a counter attack, successfully pushing back the Native
Americans. From then on, the Native Americans were cemented as the enemy. However,
Opechancanough eventually attacked again. In a matter of two days, 500 Virginians ended up
dead. The colonists captured the chief and killed him. The resulting treaty allowed the Native
Americans to have the unsettled wilderness to live on, as ong as they allowed the already settled
land to belong fully to the colonists. The Virginians were not happy with this; they needed that
land for farming. At the time, there was a surplus of past indentured servants that needed to start
their own farms to make a living. This was one reason for Bacon s Rebellion; many of these poor
servants rallied behind Nathaniel

Essay On Replacing Saturated Carbohydrates
While there are some proven benefits of replacing saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat, there are
also proven negatives of replacing saturated fat with carbohydrates. As described previously, in The
Women s Health Initiative study, replacing saturated fat intake with carbohydrates can lead to a
high glycemic load from refined carbohydrates. Epidemiologic data gathered in the Nurses Health
Study indicates that a high dietary glycemic load intake from refined carbohydrates increases
the risk of CVD, independent of known risk factors. [38] This cohort study included a large
sample size (75,521) of women ages 38 63. The participants were followed for 10 years starting
in 1984 and they had no previous diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, MI, angina, stroke, or other CVD.
The large sample size, initial health state of participants, and the length of the study are all
indicative of a well controlled observational study. Replacing saturated fatintake with carbohydrates
can cause an increase in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is enormous amount of data supporting the fact that decreasing saturated fat intake will lower
CVD risk and incidence, yet there are many factors that will affect the health outcomes. Individual
fatty acids have specific properties, some that lead them to increase CVD risk facts and some that
lead them to decrease risk factors. Identifying and measuring specific risk of the individual fatty
acid can help to better understand the mixed results in the studies. There have been more recent
studies suggesting that carbohydrate intake can lead to an even greater risk of CVD risk factors.
With people limiting saturated fat intake, it is important to be aware of what nutrients they are
replacing it with. The up and coming new cardiovascular guidelines will hopefully lead to a better
understand of how we should interpret the data and understand the risks of cardiovascular

Macbeth Rait Castle Essay
J. M. Barrie expressed that A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is
a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch
rises. Ghosts were created when the first man woke in the night . The unknown is a terrifying
notion, as many people are afraid of what they cannot explain. There are many haunted locations
in Scotland where the Shakespearean play Macbeth takes place, and many of which are
considered the most haunted places on earth. Several of these places are castles that were once
lived in, and had terrible events unfold within their walls. Such as murderous deeds and betrayal,

The Rait Castle was built in the fourteenth century in Cawdor, by the Cummings family. In 1165
the castle was granted to Saw Mackintosh, the son of Duncan Macduff and later served the
crown. When his father passed the castle was given to Angus which lead to him losing the land
to the Cummings family. This caused a feud between the two families for many years. In a
deceiving act one of the Cummings daughters told the Mackintosh s about a murder that was
going to take place of the leader of the Mackintosh s family, and the Mackintosh s ambushes
before the Cummings could ( Rait Castle ). Legend says that the chief of the Cummings family
fled upstairs to escape the massacre, and found the daughter that betrayed the family. As she tried
to flee out of the window he cuts off her hands as she hung from it ( Rait Castle ). The castle is
now reported to be haunted by her ghostly figure with no hands, as she still wears the blood stained
clothes. Her ghost is a haunting reminder of the past events that took place in this castle, where
many people died because of a little feud. Her presence is a reminder to people that betrayal

Questions On Attitudes And Attitudes
For this assignment, I was assigned to take some assessments regarding some prejudices I might
have. In my opinion, I do not think if it matters whether we are black, white, catholic, or gay or
straight. Everyone regardless of certain demographics has some prejudice thoughts that are present
in their mind. Those prejudices do not mean that we are racist or discriminatory. For the most
part we base those prejudices on stereotypes that are not even true. From this website I had
personally taken three different assessments. These assessments had included prejudices on
sexuality, race and weight. First, the weight assessment gave me results I was not surprised
from. The majority of these questions were related to my tolerance towards overweight people
compared to thinner individuals. In any event, my results had indicated that I have a stronger
preference for thin people then I have for those who are overweight. However, I think that it is
important to note that I used to be overweight. Two years ago I weighed in at 220 pounds at my
heaviest. Today, I have been able to maintain my current weight at around 170 pounds. I lost the
weight through a lot of dedication and changing my life habits. For this reason, part of me is
prejudicetowards overweight people in a sense as my results had indicated. This is because to a
certain extent I see being overweight as being a life choice. For pretty much my whole life until a
couple of years ago I had choose to be overweight. But then

The Impact of Computers In Today s Society
Computer, as the term is most commonly used, refers to the digital computer, an electronic device
that makes lengthy or complicated calculations at high speeds and (except for certain small
models) is also able to make decisions based on logic. A less common type of computeris the
analog computer. A digital computer forms the core of a data processing system. Data processing
is, basically, the organization of information into a useful form by such processes as comparing,
selecting, and arranging. A very simple example of data processing is alphabetizing a list of names.

In such sciences as physics, chemistry, and psychology, computers are used to monitor
experiments and organize the results so that they can be interpreted more easily. In astronomy,
computers perform the complicated calculations necessary for determining the orbits and relative
positions of various heavenly bodies. In engineering, computers are used to help produce and
evaluate the design of new products. Another use of computers is to control industrial processes.
This form of control, a type of automation, has been applied to such processes as machining, oil
refining, and the manufacture of chemicals. Another industrial use is to control robots used in
assembly operations. Computers are essential for a variety of functions performed by government
agencies. For example, computers are used by the National Weather Services for analyzing large
amounts of weather data to make weather forecasts; by the Federal Aviation Administration for
operating the complex equipment needed to direct air traffic; by the Internal Revenue Service for
handling tax records; by the Census Bureau for compiling statistical data on the country s
population; and by the military for communication, defense, and weapons systems. In the home,
computers are used for a number of purposes. A popular used of home computers is for playing

Essay on Raphael Sanzio s Life and Accomplishments
Raffaello Sanzio was an amazing artist from the late 1400 s to the early 1500 s, who created many
amazing paintings that helped change the style of medieval art to Renaissance art. Without him,
the style of art now would most likely be more primitive and not as advanced as it should be. This
is because he made many advances including more realistic painting. His most important paintings
include The School Of Athens , the Sistine Madonna , and the Marriage of the Virgin . Not only are
those some of his most famous paintings, they also show the realisticness that changed the world.
Raffaello Sanzio had a very interesting young life. He was born in Urbino, which at the time was a

He was his apprentice at the town of Perugia. Since Perugino was a master painter this greatly
influenced Raphael s young life and encouraged him to become an artist. Raphael, before exiting

Graces, The Knight s Dream, and The Marriage of the Virgin, which I will mention later.
Raphael made many very detailed paintings. My choices for his most contributing paintings are
The School of Athens, The Sistine Madonna, and The Marriage of The Virgin. They were just a
few of the many amazing paintings that Raphael has painted. The School of Athens was possibly
Raphael s most popular painting. It shows representations of many mathematicians, philosophers,
and scientists of the Renaissance. The two people walking down the middle of the hall are
Aristotle and Plato who were very important contributors to the way of western thinking, and in
different ways, their philosophies were incorporated into Christianity. Plato is holding the book

Since organism s genes are modified, they can be having adverse effects on the consumer.
According to AAEM, genetically modified foods cause immune system and gastrointestinal

who is legally able to be here has the right to be treated equal as everyone else. Why is that the way
someone looks or where their from affects the way people judge them. A system called Affirmative
Actions has been used to promote access in opportunities dealing with education, employment,
housing, and government contracts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now this example has been proven and researched so it is based of off facts. This leads us to
believe that this impacts in a negative way. The affirmative action is a type of discriminationin a
way because not all people benefit from it, so a lot of people are being excluded. Just because
someone is not necessarily caucasian it doesn t mean that they are not equal to them. Minorities are
the most targeted in these cases and no one does anything to help them because they believe that if
they do they can get affected by what might happen. So people have allowed that things like
affirmative action to occur without really knowing what it actually does and how this affects

Did a boy named Romulus and his brother named Remus really found Rome? Most people think

them as if they were a god.
Romulus and Remus almost did not survive infancy because Amulius ordered them to be thrown

A Night to Remember
The hit movie Titanic may possibly be one of if not the greatest movie of all time. It s tale of the
epic romance and disaster film leading to the early morning hours of April 15, 1912 in the North
Atlantic, killing 1500 of the 2200 on board. This creative movie has a strong underlining love
story between Leonardo DiCaprio as (Jack Dawson) and Kate Winslet as (Rose DeWitt Bukater).
While Titanicis easily the most subdued and dramatic of Cameron s films, fans of more frantic
pictures like Aliens and The Abyss will not be disappointed. Titanic has all of the thrills and

For the ship s interiors, production designer Peter Lamont s team looked for artifacts from the
era. However, the newness of the ship meant every prop had to be made from scratch. Fox
acquired 40 acres of waterfront south of Playas de Rosarito in Mexico, and began building a
new studio on May 31, 1996. A horizon tank of seventeen million gallons was built for the
exterior of the reconstructed ship, providing 270 degrees of ocean view. (2011) This would then
be used later in the computer generated version of the boat being broken in half and eventually
sinking. Within was a fifty foot lifting platform for the ship to tilt during the sinking sequences.
Towering above was a 162 feet (49 m) tall tower crane on 600 feet (180 m) of rail track, acting as a
combined construction, lighting, and camera platform.
The Titanic s sound effects contributed too much of the film s success and were responsible for
two of the Oscar nominations and wins: Sound and Sound Effects Editing. The Titanic movie
also won awards for Original dramatic score and Original song. A lot of the sound effects used in
the process of getting the boat to sound like it was actually sinking were a bit tricky. They had old
photographs they used to create replicas of just about everything the ship had in it. They then
would twist and break the items to give the life like sounds of the

Erikson’s End Stage of Development Essay
As human beings age, according to Erik Erikson, they go through developmental stages that help
to create and transform their personalities. If needs are met and the ego is gratified, then the
individual is able to move on to the next challenge. Onward they march in life and in stage until
they find the end level: integrity versus despair. This has been categorized as adults 65 years and
older by Erikson. Here, people are to reminisce and judge their lives in terms of merit or
disappointment. Erikson himself had a lot to comb through in his later years. Erik Erikson was
born in Frankfurt, Germany just after the turn of the twentieth century. It is known that he was a
product of an affair out of wedlock. He did not find this out... Show more content on

The final stage, however, is a little different. One does not have a challenge to overcome so
much as a lesson to learn. The person must look back on their life and see the mistakes they have
made. They can also see the wise decisions reached and good times had. And it is at this point
that most people either see meaning or resentment in their lives. Once an adult reaches
retirement, they begin to slow down, if they have not already, and reflect upon a long life lived.
They are at the mercy of many decades worth of memories, some good and some bad. The elder
will feel a sense of wellbeing if they are satisfied with their life. This satisfaction roots itself in
accomplishment. Humans usually want to undertake many things in their lives. Some are able
to attain these and others are not. Those that do achieve their goals are filled with a sense of
gratification. Arlene Handler says that Erikson calls this integrity (The Developmental Stages of
Erik Erikson, 2002 (revised 2009)). This also allows for a quiet acceptance of death. People who
accept death as inevitable do so with grace and ease. They look at their life and see an adventure
with hills and valleys, but valleys that they were able to climb out of with might and determination.
Erikson thought this to be remarkable and was amazed by elderly people s resiliency. He found
that the strength at this stage was wisdom and that all the experiences

Some individual wears fancy clothes on casual nights, and others wear casual clothes on select
nights. When we don t wear appropriate clothes for an event, it comes off as disrespectful. Based
on appearance only, we also determine how attractive someone is, and this is taken into
consideration when we approach a potential spouse. We tend to focus on how they look and not
who they are, which could lead to problems later on in a marriage.
A few relationships tend to be based solely on their partner s level of attractiveness. We determine

a source of energy that is an alternative to the problem that these fossil fuels have caused our Earth.
Alternative energy are renewable and is considered to be free energy sources (Alternative Energy).
All alternative energysources have lower carbon emissions when being compared to conventional
energysources. These sources include Biomass Energy, Wind, Solar, Geothermal, and Hydroelectric

Solar energy is mostly used to generate light and heat (Conserve Energy Future). The orbital path
of the sun and its variations in the galaxy affects the energy that is emitted from solar sources that
are reflected on the planet (Conserve Energy Future). While 70% of the sunlight gets reflected
back into space, we only have the remaining 30% to meet the energy demands that the planet
requires (Conserve Energy Future). The sun generates solar energy in the form of electromagnetic
radiation. It travels to the earth s surface at various wavelengths (Solar Energy). There are many
living things on earth that depend on the sun s radiation (Solar Energy). The sun plays a very
important part in our environment because it is responsible for producing energy that warms the
earth as well as the energy that plants need to make their food (Solar Energy). Solar energy is
crucial for plants to create a sustainable life because without it, no animals or any other living thing
could survive.
There are some advantages and disadvantages to the use of this particular alternative energy

The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Individual Health
When talking about alcoholism, we have to take into consideration all of the effects that the
alcohol use and misuse have, not only on the individual and its family but on the whole society
as well. More or less people drink because they want to socialize and some people drink because
they think that with the alcohol they will recover a solution or make their problems easier.
Alcohol can have big implications on the individual health. The individual that is an alcoholic or
that has alcohol related problems can be more prone to different diseases. If the alcohol is used
constantly for a long period of time it can harm not only the physical but the mental health as
well. The individual using alcohol can become aggressive and violent towards the family. The
household may also suffer not just physical but a mental abuse as well. The individual with an
alcohol related problem may start being absent from work more frequently, having a lack of
productivity, be more easily annoyed and begin arguing with coworkers or superiors. This may lead
to losing the occupation and create even bigger troubles with the family, friends, and the vicinity.
From this being said, there is a big burden on the society as well. All the injuries, violence that may
occur, traffic accidents, treatments, medical bills, changing policies, and so many other problems
that the society has to deal with. Every society, country, nation is different and unique. All of them

The Traditional Way Of Education By John Dewey
The traditional way of teaching had been debated for a very long time because of the rights given
to teacher and only duties for students. A student had been just following the rules and orders that
are given to him by his teacher and there had never been any question or argument from any
student in this regard. A student is supposed to follow even without knowing the purpose why he
is following and what would be possible outcome. Many teachers think that students are not
capable of understanding the real concept or actual purpose of learning any specific lesson so they
must pass through the process and once they memorize or learn the thing they will soon be able to
implement that. Our traditional system supporters say that learning needs regular routine and tough

Dewey create a rift in two extremes in education i.e. traditional and reformist education. One is
traditional while other is free we can say that it is the difference between relatively organized,
controlled, well ordered, instructive traditional way education vs. relatively free, at liberty,
student directed advanced education. Dewey also analyzes old style schooling for missing in
complete understanding of students and planning set of courses overly focused on content
instead of making efforts in teaching content and making process which is judged by its
involvement to the well being of personalities and the general public. While on the other hand,
advanced education is too much conservative and takes a free methodology without actually
knowing how or why lack of restrictions can be best useful in schooling. Independence for the sake
of freedom is a weak way of life as well as education there must be some proper reason for this
demand. Dewey also says that we need to move beyond this model war and in order to do that we

The Importance Of Technology For Classroom Communication
The Importance of Technology for Classroom Communication
I have always thought that good communication is a vital part of succeeding. With all the
technology the world has to offer today there are more than enough ways to create exceptional
communication between people. In order to understand someone there needs to be good
communication. To have a relationship, business or personal, there must be good communication.
For someone to put their trust in another person, there should be good communication. Before
technology, the only real way to have a conversation with anyone was face to face. Now, I m not
saying communicating with someone in person is unnecessary, because it very much is, however,
this day and age we are lucky enough that we don t have to wait for a convenient time to talk to
someone. Let s face it, as a teacher there is no convenient time. According to Holcomb, Castek, and
Johnson, it is important to keep classroom teachings current with the present day (2007). This is
where technology and its importance comes into play for teacher and student/parent communication.
Why Teacher/Parent Communication is Important
Teachers not only work with children, they work with children s parents as well. Having good
communication between both the student and their parents is very important. As previously
mentioned, good communication leads to success, which means part of being a good teacher is
having good communication. If a teacher is not good with communicating this can

Double Modals Or Multiple Modals
The structure falls into the more general category of double modals or multiple modals, that is,
the use of two or more modal auxiliaries within the same verb phrase. However, in order to study
pragmatic context and linguistic structure of double modals, other researchers compile naturally
occurring double modals heard or overheard in conversations. Montgomery does find some
difference in usage according to social class: although double modals are used by upper , middle
, and lower class speakers, the percentage of usage in LAGS increases as class decreases. Di
Paolo believes that all Southerners have used a double modal at least once; Montgomery claims
that there are some whose dialect does not include double modals. Double modals are of theoretical
syntactic interest because they appear to violate the phrasestructure rule that allows only one modal
in the verbphrase.
There are gaps in Standard English, and Southern English has creative ways of filling them. Of
course, not every Southerner speaks the same variety of Southern English.
Double modals like might could are what Wolfram and Fasold refer to as socially diagnostic
features, in that their use identifies social characteristics of the speaker. They are not associated
with one particular variety of Southern English, the way, for example, habitual be characterizes
African American Vernacular English. Although Southern English remains stigmatized as the one

Essay on Ancient Greek Medicine
Ancient Greek Medicine
While Greek Medicine particularly from the 5th century B.C onwards, increasingly used scientific
method to develop cures, there still however remained people that considered medicine to be a
religion. The ancient Greeks (Hellenic) made important discoveries about the human body and
health, so by the sixth century BC, medicinal practices focused largely on a more clinical approach
involving observation. Their discoveries were made by firstly studying the human anatomy using
dissection and vivisection, finding ways to heal using things such as plants and herbs, then finally
practising surgery on the human body using different instruments.

Doctors used an important practice called vivisection. Even though this was a cruel practice,
medicine couldn t be as advanced as it is today without it. Vivisection the act of cutting open live
animals for medical research (Collins Australian Dictionary 2004). In Ancient times as well as
animals, this also involved cutting open humans.
Vivisection and dissection were the ways in which anatomists discovered the anatomy of the
human body and the way it functioned. Vivisection was an extremely emotional issue; people didn
t believe that cutting up a human being whilst dead, let alone alive was respectful, so it was
condemned in some countries. However, during the Ptolemaic age in Egypt it became possible for
Greek and other anatomists to dissect and vivisect in a free and unrestricted environment. This
change in attitude was due to the philosophical teachings of Aristotle. The ready supply of
criminals able to be used for vivisection also made this controversial practice possible.
Aristotle never possessed any inclination to open a human being, although he performed many
dissections and vivisections on animals seen as near to man , these being Barbary apes, dogs and
pigs. The only chances of his observations came from a wounded mutilated person. Via vivisection,
anatomists found that the heart pumps blood, humans breathe through

Hidden Depths In Will Smith s Life
Hidden Depths After analyzing the text from Will Smith s life it is clear to me that the

by analyzing Will Smith s personal life it is clear to see that he puts the priorities of others
before his needs. He obeys to the social norms and in my opinion has no representation of an ID
Factor. A perfect example of this is looking at his life with his children. Will Smith puts the
needs of his family before himself. Thus in this one particular time when he was on tour he had
opportunities to be unfaithful to his family however he decided that it was not logical two act on

Baseball And Softball Are The Victim Of It Essay
It is hard to feel injustice if you do not realize you are the victim of it. Logistically, baseball and
softball are different sports although they seem very similar. Confusing them as the same sport
seems innocent enough, until you truly begin to understand the differences and why they exist. It is
nationally understood that baseballis for boys and softball is for girls. The girls sport is baseball,
but softer. It is meant to be easier and less complicated than baseball. The difference between a
baseball and a softball is three inches (Rules of Sport). It is amazing the amount of oppression
caused by those three inches.
If the heroines in Ring s book were treated fairly, surely there would not be such a book. Men,
significantly Spalding, took a widely accepted coed s game and turned it into a game that shows
masculinity and is a man maker (Ring, page 57). Due to his own insecurities, Spalding turned
baseball into a way to prove his worth and his manliness. After all, it sure is hard to prove you
are a man when you are getting beat by women, right? The ironic part about Spalding s claim is
that while baseball is decidedly a men s game, it does not fit the general definition of manly.
There is rarely contact or much movement. Most of the team members are standing in the dugout
for the majority of the game. You can be out of shape and still be a baseball player, Babe Ruth for

she was constantly running around checking on patines and getting different meds together for

Analysis Of The Lady Of Shalott
In the story by Alfred Tennyson, The Lady of Shalott the story is about a fairy who is isolated
from the outside world in a tower. In a mythical and fairytale like setting, the author uses imagery
and the Lady Shalott s character to explain the underlying message to his readers. The message of
this story is the importance of one s identity seen in the world. The author explains this aspect
through the isolation of Lady Shalott to show that love and affection is needed to enhance this
identity. We as readers are introduced early on to whom Lady Shalott really is and what her
environment is like. The author describes the island of Shalott dividing Lady Shalott s world of
her tower on one side of the river and another area of land on the other; the river keeping these
areas apart. The author emphasizes that the Lady of Shalott is unknown to society by stating,
But who hath seen her wave her hand? Thus, we can see that the Lady of Shalott is isolated in a
tower being basically nonexistent to others. Through looking outside her window, she can see
some shadows. Lady Shalott states, I am half sick of shadows to emphasize to the reader that
she enjoys seeing someone else, however, haven t been physically interacted with one before.
These aspects of the Lady of Shalott s environment are crucial and impactful to this aspect of
loneliness on identity. Tennyson states that the Lady of Shalott is a fairy who weaves webs
during her time in the tower. The author uses this mythical character of a fairy due to their
stereotypes. Such include a very dainty and sometimes ditsy fairytale like creature. The ideas of
being ditsy can come from the fairies in Sleeping Beauty. The author uses this dainty and ditsy
character to show the Lady of Shalott being unaware of the outside world because of her isolation.
The author also mentions that the Lady of Shalott has an unknown curse put upon her. Without
going into much detail, the author states how this curse is unknown to herself. This curse could
possibly be an aspect of her own self. Because of Lady Shalott s isolation, she is unaware of what
the outside world is like. Thus, her mindset up this curse upon herself is due to unknown aspects of

Medicine And Traditional Medicine
When one s body is not feeling quite right do they pick up the phone to make an appointment with
their physician? Or do they contact their grandmother for advice on what to do? For millions of
years people have used traditional medicine in the form of natural herbs and home remedies to cure
the unhealthy and prevent further disease. Furthermore, leading to the development of modern
medications.
In a world that is rapidly evolving in every aspect many cultures remain providing traditional
medicine as a primary source of healthcare. In Africa and Asia nearly 80 percent of their
populations utilize traditional practices rather than modern medicine. Traditional medicine is the
use of natural herbs and plants that are found all over the world to aid in maintaining a healthy
body. The use in herbs as medication has been found to date to 4000 5000 B.C. (Rasoulian
Kheirandish par.1). Although, more plants, trees and herbs are essentially healthy are being
discovered today (Shetty par. 2).
Traditional medicines (TMs) make use of natural products and are of great importance. Such forms
of medicine as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, Kampo, traditional Korean
medicine(TKM), and Unani employ natural products... (Yuan, Ma, Ye Piao p.1). These medications
have been manufactured by crushing the plant, herb, tree bark or root resulting in a mixture that
contains hundreds of active molecules within it. Testing the effectiveness of the molecules in the

Compare / Contrast the evolution of Aquatic Organism to Terrestrial Organism. what did fish
evolve from? What were the different stages of their evolution?
What makes an animal aquatic is if it is a vertebrate or an invertebrate. They live in water for the
MAJORITY of their life, it could breathe air or extract oxygen through its habitat in the water
through their special adaptations such as gills or through its skin. A Terrestrial Organism is
basically the total opposite, these are your animals that live on land, from your friendly pets to the
slug snails living in the backyard.
Important characteristics of terrestrial organism s environment would be to have DRY land in
comparison to an aquatic animal. Oxygen is very important to a terrestrial organisms , it needs to
always be available to the organism. The environmental temperature of the environment is less

With this happening the Devonian has become known as the age of fishes. The first backboned
fish were the Aganthans, which are commonly called jawless fish (Huges, 1996). Agnathans live
today as hagfish and lampreys, but they do not resemble ancient Agnathans (Hamlin, 1999). The
Agnathans lived from 510 to 350 million years ago (Huges, 1996). These fish, since they did not
have a jaw, sucked food in through a hole in their heads (BBC, 1998). One type of Agnathan was
the Hemicyclasis, which had only one nostril and a bony head shield (BBC, 1998). (http:/

fish but more fish evolved from these first fish. The Acanthodians, or spiny fish, had jaws unlike
the Aganthans. They had a short, deep body, five fins on it s belly and of course, it has spines all
over it s body. These fish went extinct in the Carboniferous

Comparing Dreams In Death Of A Salesman And Fences
In Death of a Salesman and Fences there are many similar things happening between the characters
of both plays. There are many hopes and dreams that are either realistic or wild hopes, regardless
none of the hopes and dreams actually come true. That then leads to affecting the relationships
between every character and usually negatively affecting the hopes and dreams of the next
generation while being the cause behind all of the conflicts that go on and become the reason that
the fathers and sons do not get along. Both plays have extremely forgiving wives, and son(s) that
they do not know how to connect to them so they end up ruining their relationships with them.
Within Death of a Salesman there are many different hopes and dreams between both Willy and
Biff. There hopes and dreams at times go back and forth between being realistic and wild hopes
that are so out there for them that they will never happen, and then goes on to fester until it drives
at least Willy out of his mind because of his secrets as well as the fact that he cannot seem to reach
his dream. I think the things that ate Willy up so bad were the secrets that he had been keeping
from his wife mainly the affair he had years ago. The affair seems to be the root of a lot of the
issues that Willy is facing throughout the play. It... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Earned Tax Credit Policy
One problem the policy faces is that even though the Earned Income Tax Credit encourages work
for some groups, it actually discourages work for others; such as families with two earners who
can decrease hours worked and still have the same amount of money due to the amount of credit. It
is becoming a challenge for low to middle income families to benefit from the policy and even
harder to gain upward social/economic mobility. According to Eamon (2009), Although we might
expect that over time the EITC would motivate more low income parents to enter the workforce and
take advantage of this program, thus further reducing child poverty, our analysis provides little
support for these expectations (pg. 922). It has left hard working families standing... Show more

Meanwhile, the notion of the nation was introduced to Europe in a powerful way during the
Revolution and the subsequent Napoleonic period (xxx, xxx). After Napoleon was finally subdued,
European monarchs and their representatives assembled in Vienna to chart a more peaceful order
for themselves (xxx, xxx). They blamed the mayhem that Europe endured between the early 1790s
and 1815 on the notion of popular sovereignty and thus agreed to proscribe Republicanism (xxx,

The inconsistencies in the implementation even partly contributed to the outbreak of the Second
World War (xxx, xxx). The European powers mobilized their African subjects with propaganda
vilifying the racial supremacist ideology of the Fascist powers. This set in motion a process in
which Fascist nationalism produced the opposed reality of anti Fascism; and anti Fascism became
antiracism; and antiracism led in due course to an end of colonization (Davidson, 1992). The
result was the erasure of European colonial rule from large swathes of the African continent within
a relatively short period of time (xxx, xxx). Consequently, this led to the development of a
decolonized version of the self determination concept. The decolonization version of self
determination was based on the following three principles: i) all dependent peoples are entitled to
freedom; ii) the peoples so entitled are defined in terms of the existing colonial territories, each of
which contains a nation; and iii) once such a people has come to independence, no residual right of
self determination remains with any group within it or cutting across its frontiers (Emerson 1964).
This version of self determination had numerous implications. The concerned entities often did not

Examples Of Delusion In Don Quixote
Miguel Cervantes Don Quixote is a masterpiece in many senses of the word: at the time of its
conception, it was hailed as a revolutionary work of literature that defined a genre, in later centuries
regarded as an acerbic social commentary, a slightly misshapen romantic tragedy, and even as a
synthesis of existentialist and post modernist features. At the centre of this Spanish satirical
chronicle is the perplexing character Don Quixote. Don Quixote s personality and perspective is
rapidly established fromsince the beginning of the novel, revealing unabashedly to readers that he
is mad. The source of his madness lies in the extent to which Don Quixote acts on his delusions and
projections unto reality as he saunters through Cervantes Andalusia. Don Quixote s delusions have
two primary functions in the novel: demonstrating the reality and tragedy of Cervantes
manifestation of idyllic themes of love and chivalry, and revealing certain characteristics about
narration. A role of Don Quixote s delusions is to provide a glimpse into a situation where the
chivalric code is implemented. Don Quixote is mad at first glance:... Show more content on

1.According To Industry Analysts, Acquisition Can Increase
1.According to industry analysts, acquisition can increase the company s global footprint, which
means it can achieve publicity on an international scale. It is conducive for Tata to increase the
company s business diversity across markets and product segments, which brings Tata advanced
technology, low cost engineering and design to the industry. Based on Market analyses,
acquisition is a fast way to bring the brand into a new market. The competitive advantage was the
main supplier of automotive high grade steel to JLR and other automobile industries in the US and
Europe. Jaguar s vehicles are high profit margins in case they can offer a range of Luxury vehicles

Besides, from the experience the Nano has in the India market, we can clearly see the pros and
cons that fit with customers needs. But, there may be threats that come from strong competitors
like BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes. It is undeniable that the weakness of brand image for Tata and
new products and market buildings are also big problems. The cons for Tata are challenges from
other competitors since they share the risk with each other and unclearly market shares. The last
action Tata may choose is complementary strategic. Tata can grow a competitive advantage if they
purchase Jaguar and Land Rover. The pro in this situation is that it can bring the well known brands
emerging in the Indian car market an opportunity. Admittedly that offers Tata a high certification
across the global market within a brief period. The cons may have is partners fail to use their
resources in the market or inadequate contracts unsure creating value chain.
4. I think the diversifying strategic alliance is the best option for Tata, because we know in a long
way Tata Motorswere highly dependent on Indian markets. So in that way, it will be less
dependent on the Indian market. As a key to acquisition, if Tata purchase Jaguar and Land Rover,
it can bring separate market share reputation and more. In this case, Tata can avoid the damage to
brand image. Besides, Jaguar and Land Rover both can increase the design services and sourcing

The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration Essay
The Dilemma of Macular Degeneration
According to Baily and Hall, while visual impairment early in life is associated with inherited
congenital disorders, abnormal fetal devepment, and problems associated with premature birth,
most eye conditions are associated with aging. They claim that over 70% of the visually impaired
population in the United States is over 65. Age related maculopathy, also called macular
degeneration, or AMD, impairs the center of vision in older individuals. The macula is the region in
the back of the retina that surrounds and includes the fovea (Goldstein 1999). It is important to
understand that when this degeneration progresses enough, the condition constitutes blindness

Danger can exist for victims of the condition when simply walking down the street or even through
their own homes. While there is yet no cure for macular degeneration the research is in progress.
Two main areas of research include investigating the causes and exploring potential treatments.
According to Friedman, progress in the effort to stop or prevent AMD will be slow until the
cause is learned. He claims retinal pigmant epithelium damage to be the prominant theory
explaining the choroidal circulation changes that lead to AMD. Although Friedmal himself
does not subscribe to this theory, other researchers do and use it as a basis for study. Grunwald,
Harisprasad, Dupont, M. G. Mguire, Fine, Bruker, A.M. Maguire, and Ho compared choroidal
blood flow in subjects with AMD to a control group. They used laser doppler flowmetry to asess
the volume, velocity, and flow of blood in the center of the fovea. Ten subjects with no drusen
(cellular debris) were compared to 20 subjects with ten or more large drusen. The average visual
acuities of the two groups was very close. No significant differences between age, blood pressure,
or intraocular pressure was revealed between the subjects. Spraul, G. E. Lang, Grossnik laus, and
G. K. Lang questioned the validity of the study. They claim doppler flowmetry to be an imperfect
method for such a study because of multiple light scattering properties of the tissue. They also

George Orr s Loss Of Power
Throughout history, there has been many leaders or individuals who have taken power over their
followers and anyone else under them. They pick and choose what they want to do with the
power they have and whether they want to use it for good or bad. More often than not it is utilized
towards good and helping others. But when it is not, it can lead to the destruction of the person
with the power and of the followers of the leader. Though having powers can be one of the best
things in the world, it can also be the worst because it can drive people away from helping others, it

George realizes it and he says, It s the chance of power that my dreams give him that twists him

The white light that one can see is known to be the origin of our solar system. Milky Way galaxy is
a gravitational bound system consisting of stars, stellar remnants, an interstellar medium of gas

Subprime lending
Subprime mortgage lending is the origination of residential mortgage loans to customers with
impaired credit histories. Typically, these borrowers have lower credit scores and/or other credit
deficiencies that prevent them from qualifying for prime mortgages. Subprime borrowers pay
premium above the prime market rate in order to compensate the lender for bearing greater default
risk. In addition, subprime borrowers pay higher origination and continuous costs, such as
applications fees, appraisal fees, mortgage insurance payments, late fees and fines for delinquent
payments.
Subprime Mortgage market
Since mid 1990s, the subprime mortgage market has grown rapidly experiencing a phenomenal
23% compound annual growth rate to 2006. The total subprime loan originations increased from
$65 billion in 1995 to $613 billion in 2006. The subprime sector has become a significant sub

2006. Similarly, by year end 2006, total outstanding balance of subprime loans grew to $1.2 trillion,
approximately 12.6% of all outstanding mortgage debt.
A number of legislative and economic factors contributed to the growth of the subprime market:

  • 2. The Sarbanes Oxley ( Sox ) Act Of 2002 The Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Act of 2002 was legislated by Congress to restore reliability of financial statements with the objectives to raise standards of corporate accountability, to not only improve detection, but to also prevent fraud and abuse (Terando Kurtenbach, 2009). Additionally, SOX was the response to general failure of business ethics such as the propagation of abusive tax shelters and greater aggressive tax avoidance strategies (Raabe, Whittenburg, Sanders, Sawyers, 2015). Tax Advantages of Sarbanes Oxley Considering the tax planning, SOX identify the potential risks of the similar firm conducting both tax services and auditing for a business by changing the relationship between the audit Committee of company and external auditors, thus providing a new obligation for the tax services to be pre approved by the audit committee while the auditors are not limited from the tax services they can offer (Piotroski Srinivasan, 2007). The Security Exchange Commission specifies that the audit committee in charge of retention and appointment of auditors must examine first, transactions primarily suggested by the accountant of the firm, secondly transactions which the only purpose is tax evasion, and lastly the treatment of tax that may not be assisted by the Internal Revenue Code of the United States and associated regulations (Piotroski Srinivasan, 2007). Tax evasion constitutes the illegal nonpayment of tax and cannot be condoned (Raabe, et al., 2015). Those three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective assessment of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the standards for happiness utilizing John Stuart Mills Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all people at different levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only subjective standards at its higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of happiness based upon their faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater good through their actions. Mill makes it clear early in his work that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He states, Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become conscious of them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification (Mill, 5). This comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable pleasures. Humans mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher the person s faculties, the higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality of happiness is therefore subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of happiness with significantly different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily and understands more about philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to understand this level of happiness. These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that once people are made aware of their possession of higher faculties, they will not be happy when these are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The astronauts will risk their lives because it is a dangerous expedition and could easily fail if the people die from lack of oxygen. Colonizing Mars is a terrible idea there is no natural source of water, if Mars One sends them they cannot come back once they arrive there, and someone could get sick and die before they get there. • 6. Arthur Lubow Research Paper In 2003, Arthur Lubow wrote an article in the New York Times titled, The Secret of the Black Paintings. He believes that Goya s Black Paintings were actually painted by someone else. The Black Paintings ornamented the wall of Goya s Quinta del Sordo. Art Historian, Junquera, studied the Black Paintings, and, given the evidence, he believes they were actually painted by Goya s son, Javier. Javier was a businessman, not a painter, so he probably sold his paintings as his fathers to make extra money. Another clue that they were not painted by Goya is that they are more modern than his other pieces. The style that they were painted in emerged after Goya s death. • 9. Bacon s Rebellion Research Paper In 1676, the English colony of Virginia experienced a revolt. This revolt, led by Nathaniel Bacon, was backed largely by lower class, white farmers, and was directed towards both the rich landowning Virginian farmers and the nearby Native Americans. This revolt, now known as Bacon s Rebellion, reflected both the racial and class tensions held by the majority of settlers in seventeenth century Virginia, and would greatly affect the dynamics of colonial society. Bacon s Rebellion was caused due a myriad of racial conflicts. The Virginian colonists had had several smaller raids and battles with the Powhatan Native Americans before the actual rebellion began. However, Opechancanough eventually attacked again. In a matter of two days, 500 Virginians ended up dead. The colonists captured the chief and killed him. The resulting treaty allowed the Native Americans to have the unsettled wilderness to live on, as ong as they allowed the already settled land to belong fully to the colonists. The Virginians were not happy with this; they needed that land for farming. At the time, there was a surplus of past indentured servants that needed to start their own farms to make a living. A student buys a sandwich called the Last American Pirate and unearths the long forgotten tale of Edward Owens, who terrorized the Chesapeake Bay in the 1870s. Kelly explains that he hopes to mold his students into much better consumers of historical information, and at the same time, to lighten up a little in contrast to overly stuffy approaches to the subject. • 11. Essay On Replacing Saturated Carbohydrates While there are some proven benefits of replacing saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat, there are also proven negatives of replacing saturated fat with carbohydrates. As described previously, in The Women s Health Initiative study, replacing saturated fat intake with carbohydrates can lead to a high glycemic load from refined carbohydrates. Epidemiologic data gathered in the Nurses Health Study indicates that a high dietary glycemic load intake from refined carbohydrates increases the risk of CVD, independent of known risk factors. [38] This cohort study included a large sample size (75,521) of women ages 38 63. The participants were followed for 10 years starting in 1984 and they had no previous diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, MI, angina, stroke, or other CVD. The large sample size, initial health state of participants, and the length of the study are all indicative of a well controlled observational study. Individual fatty acids have specific properties, some that lead them to increase CVD risk facts and some that lead them to decrease risk factors. Identifying and measuring specific risk of the individual fatty acid can help to better understand the mixed results in the studies. There have been more recent studies suggesting that carbohydrate intake can lead to an even greater risk of CVD risk factors. • 12. Macbeth Rait Castle Essay J. M. Barrie expressed that A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man woke in the night . The unknown is a terrifying notion, as many people are afraid of what they cannot explain. There are many haunted locations in Scotland where the Shakespearean play Macbeth takes place, and many of which are considered the most haunted places on earth. Several of these places are castles that were once lived in, and had terrible events unfold within their walls. Such as murderous deeds and betrayal, much like the play when Macbeth kills his king and his best friend to secure the crown.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Rait Castle was built in the fourteenth century in Cawdor, by the Cummings family. In 1165 the castle was granted to Saw Mackintosh, the son of Duncan Macduff and later served the crown. When his father passed the castle was given to Angus which lead to him losing the land to the Cummings family. This caused a feud between the two families for many years. In a deceiving act one of the Cummings daughters told the Mackintosh s about a murder that was going to take place of the leader of the Mackintosh s family, and the Mackintosh s ambushes before the Cummings could ( Rait Castle ). Legend says that the chief of the Cummings family fled upstairs to escape the massacre, and found the daughter that betrayed the family. As she tried to flee out of the window he cuts off her hands as she hung from it ( Rait Castle ). The castle is now reported to be haunted by her ghostly figure with no hands, as she still wears the blood stained clothes. • 13. Questions On Attitudes And Attitudes For this assignment, I was assigned to take some assessments regarding some prejudices I might have. In my opinion, I do not think if it matters whether we are black, white, catholic, or gay or straight. Everyone regardless of certain demographics has some prejudice thoughts that are present in their mind. Those prejudices do not mean that we are racist or discriminatory. For the most part we base those prejudices on stereotypes that are not even true. From this website I had personally taken three different assessments. These assessments had included prejudices on sexuality, race and weight. First, the weight assessment gave me results I was not surprised from. The majority of these questions were related to my tolerance towards overweight people compared to thinner individuals. In any event, my results had indicated that I have a stronger preference for thin people then I have for those who are overweight. However, I think that it is important to note that I used to be overweight. Two years ago I weighed in at 220 pounds at my heaviest. Today, I have been able to maintain my current weight at around 170 pounds. I lost the weight through a lot of dedication and changing my life habits. For this reason, part of me is prejudicetowards overweight people in a sense as my results had indicated. This is because to a certain extent I see being overweight as being a life choice. For pretty much my whole life until a couple of years ago I had choose to be overweight. But then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Raphael Sanzio s Life and Accomplishments Raffaello Sanzio was an amazing artist from the late 1400 s to the early 1500 s, who created many amazing paintings that helped change the style of medieval art to Renaissance art. His most important paintings include The School Of Athens , the Sistine Madonna , and the Marriage of the Virgin . • 24. Erikson’s End Stage of Development Essay As human beings age, according to Erik Erikson, they go through developmental stages that help to create and transform their personalities. If needs are met and the ego is gratified, then the individual is able to move on to the next challenge. Onward they march in life and in stage until they find the end level: integrity versus despair. This has been categorized as adults 65 years and older by Erikson. Here, people are to reminisce and judge their lives in terms of merit or disappointment. Erikson himself had a lot to comb through in his later years. Erik Erikson was born in Frankfurt, Germany just after the turn of the twentieth century. It is known that he was a product of an affair out of wedlock. He did not find this out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final stage, however, is a little different. One does not have a challenge to overcome so much as a lesson to learn. The person must look back on their life and see the mistakes they have made. They can also see the wise decisions reached and good times had. And it is at this point that most people either see meaning or resentment in their lives. Once an adult reaches retirement, they begin to slow down, if they have not already, and reflect upon a long life lived. They are at the mercy of many decades worth of memories, some good and some bad. The elder will feel a sense of wellbeing if they are satisfied with their life. This satisfaction roots itself in accomplishment. Humans usually want to undertake many things in their lives. Some are able to attain these and others are not. Those that do achieve their goals are filled with a sense of gratification. Arlene Handler says that Erikson calls this integrity (The Developmental Stages of Erik Erikson, 2002 (revised 2009)). This also allows for a quiet acceptance of death. People who accept death as inevitable do so with grace and ease. They look at their life and see an adventure with hills and valleys, but valleys that they were able to climb out of with might and determination. Erikson thought this to be remarkable and was amazed by elderly people s resiliency. He found that the strength at this stage was wisdom and that all the experiences ... A student had been just following the rules and orders that are given to him by his teacher and there had never been any question or argument from any student in this regard. A student is supposed to follow even without knowing the purpose why he is following and what would be possible outcome. Many teachers think that students are not capable of understanding the real concept or actual purpose of learning any specific lesson so they must pass through the process and once they memorize or learn the thing they will soon be able to implement that. With all the technology the world has to offer today there are more than enough ways to create exceptional communication between people. In order to understand someone there needs to be good communication. To have a relationship, business or personal, there must be good communication. For someone to put their trust in another person, there should be good communication. Before technology, the only real way to have a conversation with anyone was face to face. Now, I m not saying communicating with someone in person is unnecessary, because it very much is, however, this day and age we are lucky enough that we don t have to wait for a convenient time to talk to someone. Will Smith puts the needs of his family before himself. Thus in this one particular time when he was on tour he had opportunities to be unfaithful to his family however he decided that it was not logical two act on his instincts or urges. • 34. Baseball And Softball Are The Victim Of It Essay It is hard to feel injustice if you do not realize you are the victim of it. Logistically, baseball and softball are different sports although they seem very similar. Confusing them as the same sport seems innocent enough, until you truly begin to understand the differences and why they exist. It is nationally understood that baseballis for boys and softball is for girls. The girls sport is baseball, but softer. It is meant to be easier and less complicated than baseball. The difference between a baseball and a softball is three inches (Rules of Sport). It is amazing the amount of oppression caused by those three inches. If the heroines in Ring s book were treated fairly, surely there would not be such a book. Men, significantly Spalding, took a widely accepted coed s game and turned it into a game that shows masculinity and is a man maker (Ring, page 57). Due to his own insecurities, Spalding turned baseball into a way to prove his worth and his manliness. After all, it sure is hard to prove you are a man when you are getting beat by women, right? The ironic part about Spalding s claim is that while baseball is decidedly a men s game, it does not fit the general definition of manly. There is rarely contact or much movement. Most of the team members are standing in the dugout for the majority of the game. You can be out of shape and still be a baseball player, Babe Ruth for example. Regardless, the problem with Spalding s behavior is that it made a difference. It took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On Thursday when I went, there was a RN who was pretty much in charge of the unit and she had several LPNs and a tech who worked under her guidance. The LPNs and the tech did much of the patient contact work. Like getting a client weighted and into their chair, setting up the dialysis lines and connecting everything up, and monitoring the patient while they were dialyzed. In a mythical and fairytale like setting, the author uses imagery and the Lady Shalott s character to explain the underlying message to his readers. The message of this story is the importance of one s identity seen in the world. The author explains this aspect through the isolation of Lady Shalott to show that love and affection is needed to enhance this identity. We as readers are introduced early on to whom Lady Shalott really is and what her environment is like. The author describes the island of Shalott dividing Lady Shalott s world of her tower on one side of the river and another area of land on the other; the river keeping these areas apart. The author emphasizes that the Lady of Shalott is unknown to society by stating, But who hath seen her wave her hand? Thus, we can see that the Lady of Shalott is isolated in a tower being basically nonexistent to others. Through looking outside her window, she can see some shadows. Lady Shalott states, I am half sick of shadows to emphasize to the reader that she enjoys seeing someone else, however, haven t been physically interacted with one before. These aspects of the Lady of Shalott s environment are crucial and impactful to this aspect of loneliness on identity. Tennyson states that the Lady of Shalott is a fairy who weaves webs during her time in the tower. The author uses this mythical character of a fairy due to their stereotypes. Such include a very dainty and sometimes ditsy fairytale like creature. The ideas of being ditsy can come from the fairies in Sleeping Beauty. The author uses this dainty and ditsy character to show the Lady of Shalott being unaware of the outside world because of her isolation. The author also mentions that the Lady of Shalott has an unknown curse put upon her. Without going into much detail, the author states how this curse is unknown to herself. This curse could possibly be an aspect of her own self. Because of Lady Shalott s isolation, she is unaware of what the outside world is like. Thus, her mindset up this curse upon herself is due to unknown aspects of life. Going further into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Delusion In Don Quixote Miguel Cervantes Don Quixote is a masterpiece in many senses of the word: at the time of its conception, it was hailed as a revolutionary work of literature that defined a genre, in later centuries regarded as an acerbic social commentary, a slightly misshapen romantic tragedy, and even as a synthesis of existentialist and post modernist features. At the centre of this Spanish satirical chronicle is the perplexing character Don Quixote. Don Quixote s personality and perspective is rapidly established fromsince the beginning of the novel, revealing unabashedly to readers that he is mad.
