Sp Statement Of Purpose Statement
Statement of Purpose Applying for M.S. in Statistics Program Studying at University of
Virginia was my first time living by myself in a foreign country. Turning to math seemed an easy
choice for me because I had been passionate about math since elementary school. I started to
learn Olympic Mathematics in second grade and enjoyed the challenging topics. I was soon able
to learn by myself with the help of training in logical thinking. When I was forced to stay at
home for a whole school year due to a heart problem, I read the textbooks on my own and passed
the final exams so that I could continue with my class the next year. In fifth grade, I was able to
understand abstract concepts such as linear equations and use x and y to represent unknown
variables. Winning numerous Olympic Mathematics competitions awards got me into the best
middle school and high school in Beijing, where I continued to pursue my affection in Olympic
Mathematics. I received the medals of school winner and honor roll of distinction in AMC 12 and

I found a famous psychotherapist that I enjoyed working with and started my internship at her
clinic. After learning different skills in therapy and attending seminars in which therapists and
patients discuss their experiences and feelings, I soon became an assistant psychotherapist. I
administered questionnaires to incoming patients and analyzed the collected data. In addition, I
conducted regular psychotherapy seminars with a leading psychotherapist. While these valuable
trainings and experience sharpened my skills in communication, leadership and many other aspects,
I kept exploring myself and realized that I still have passion about statistics. Therefore, I decided to
pursue a career combining my interest in statistics and psychology, neither of which are separable

Nero s Domus Aurea And The Colosseum
The Colosseum has been standing for over 1900 years but before discussing the Colosseum s
achievements, it is important to understand the historical context and background of the building.
How can a place go from being a symbol of extreme tyranny and private wealth to a symbol of one
of the greatest entertainment venues and architectural feats? The Roman Colosseumdid just that. It
completely changed the public attitude and activity since it was built upon the grounds of what
was once the part of Golden House of Nero (Domus Aurea). Although both Nero s Domus Aurea
and the Colosseum are architecturally supreme and complex, the area holds rich history of private
decadent excess to a public attraction making them supreme and complex in two different ways.

Claudius, the fourth Roman emperor 41 54 CE married for the fourth time to Nero s mother
Agrippina, even though he was her uncle. To aid Claudius politically, Nero was adopted in 50.
Nero was older than his stepbrother Britannicus and thus became heir to the throne. Agrippa did
everything in her power to ensure Nero s reign and control the government, eventually many
people were killed including Claudius. Nero was only seventeen when he became emperor in 54.
Nero was not all bad, he did things like eliminate secret trials, fixed some of the wrongdoing from
the Claudius reign, initiated poetry, theaters, and athletics. But, like a kid without consequences,
Nero noticed he could do what he wants without much retribution. Nero was popular with the
crowds but after he forced Seneca to commit suicide, he became an evil ruler.

Burial In Sophocles Antigone
In Sophocles play Antigone, two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices fight for the thrown of Thebes.
The war comes to an end when both brothers die fighting for the honor, and their uncle Creon
becomes the king of Thebes. Upon his coronation, Creon issues a decree that Eteocles, the former
king of Thebes, will be honored with a traditional military burial, while his brother Polynices will
be left unwept, unburied, a lovely treasure for birds that scan the field and feast to their heart s
content (Sophocles, 60). Antigone, one of the two sisters, outraged by this ruling, takes matters
into her own hands and goes against this newly established law by properly burying her brother.
Ultimately Antigone sets aside the political law and does what s morally right by honoring her
brother with a traditional burial. I will argue that Antigone s decision to bury her brother was the
right decision. While she may have disobeyed the law put in place by the newly appointed
inexperienced king of Thebes, she was in turn honoring her brother and the long standing traditions
and expectations of the g ds, principles much more important than the arbitrary laws of the state.
I would argue that most importantly, Creon s law was arbitrary. Creon says in a discussion he has
with Haemon, Am I to rule this land for others or myself? after a short dialogue back and forth
where Haemon argues that a city is not owned by one man alone, Creon declares that The city is
the king s that s the law

Good Night And Good Luck Film Analysis
Good Night, and Good Luck, is a film made by George Clooney in 2005. In response to the Iraq
war. It follows the story of Sig Mickelson played by Jeff Daniels. A newscaster who is set in his
values, exposing corruption, and keeping the government in line. In a time when America was
having a communist red scare.
This film did transitions amazingly every time a there was a major change in the plot. The
audience hears a female singing in a film with almost no music at all. This really help the
audience see that some major change is happening. And on the topic of transitions/ camera work.
A lot of the transitions are very creative for example one of the shots was shot through a mirror in
the set piece showing the characters. This was really cool seeing it show that Clooney is actually
putting in effort to plan his scenes and working with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also ended rather abruptly which might have been what Clooney was going for. The problem
with not wrapping up the film and leaving open end/ to the audience s imagination. Is that it
loses all mass market appeal. It also is a lot harder on the audience to connect all the threads in
the plot. This seems to be found in a lot of these art house/film festival films. But overall it just
feels like the film could have been two hours not the 90 minutes that it is. Now saying that this is
one film that would be not the same if you cut 10 minutes out of. Dissimilar to a lot of the mass
market/ big budget films.
Overall Good Night, and Good Luck was a great film by George Clooney. It shows film makers
how to use color or lack of, angles, and transitions. It also shows off how a small low budget film
can keep you on the edge of your seat the same ass large block busters, and it also is able to
present the viewer with a political point without basically making it super obvious. It is definitely
worth a

3: 360 Degree Viewing This isn t a well established design idea because not many people are

shippers who wouldn t have access to their items wouldn t be able to do something like this, but
they could always take multiple pictures so when clicking Next or an arrow to view the next

Leadership And Leadership Practices And Expectations
There was research set up in the early 1980 s to determine what it takes to become an
effective leader. The researchers wanted to know how ordinary men and women practiced their
skills while they were in leadership. The analysis consisted of surveys that covered thousands of
cases over a few years. The research revealed consistent leadership practices and expectations.
Research has shown that leadership can be learned, and there are ten basic lessons on what it

Therefore,
there is a possibility that there are leadership qualities in everyone, and a belief that ordinary
people can perform extraordinary to make sure that things get done. The person just has to
believe in his or her abilities and have the confidence in them and themselves. When developing
leadership you have to remove the barriers that are self imposed or placed by others.
Leadership can be an emotional process. It requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice to
bring a dream to reality. People will not follow a leader who they feel is unsure of themselves or
their abilities. To be a good leader, you should have your mind focused on the task at hand.
I read an online article about the director, Ava Du Vernay. She was the director of the
acclaimed movie Selma, and she is taking on television with an adaptation of the book Queen
Sugar. She is a great filmmaker, but these days there is a renaissance of the golden age of
television. Things are happening and being shown on television that are stunning and changing
our culture. If you are a storyteller, you want to be a part of that.
Embracing diversity and complexity is an increasingly important part of leadership.
Multiculturalism is the understanding and acceptance of others who may not be like you. But in
Hollywood, the voice of the white male is the dominant voice. When you talk about the
portrayals of black people and women in film, you want the

Overcoming Obstacles To Success
People are faced with obstacles on a daily basis, but it is how a person deals with the obstacle
that really reveals their true character. I personally believe that obstacles are present in order to
demonstrate how much one really desires to achieve a particular goal. While growing up, I was a
stereotypical awkward pre teen that grew too fast for his age: I was not fast enough for basketball,
not coordinated enough for baseball, and definitely not nimble enough for soccer. It was here in
middle schoolwhen I was faced with obstacles, but it is how I dealt with these obstacles that
taught me many lessons and turned me into the person I am today. Although I was not seen as
athletic, I still had a love for sports. I would spend some of my free time watching English
soccer games or highlights, wishing that I could play like them. I could not wait to try out for
soccer, and hopefully make it. On the first day, I sat down on the bench, put on my cleats, and got
ready for tryouts. After a week of running and demonstrating our soccer skills, all of us potential
soccer players were sitting outside of the coach s office waiting... Show more content on

I wanted to quit because I came to the hasty conclusion that sports generally were just not for me.
This, however, changed quickly. I hated the idea of failure at anything; it just did not sit well
with me. I persisted and continued with soccer anyways. I would take my father along with me
to the local park. I watched videos on form, and I practiced it with my dad. I determined that, as
a lanky kid, I was better suited for the goalkeeper position than on the field, so I adapted and
committed to that position. Fast forward to 8th grade when I tried out again. After a week of
hard work, I got called in by the coach and made the team. However, I was still the third choice
goalkeeper, and while I was proud of my improvements, I still wanted

Editha, by William Dean Howells Essay
William Dean Howells was an advocate of realism in writing; he believed that literary art should
reflect the reality of the common man and demonstrate the truth of everyday current issues. He
believed in truthful writing and he accepted very little at face value. He practiced this belief in his
own writing, and his story called Editha is a good example of this. In this ironic tragedy, W.D.
Howells shows the truthand nature of war. He uses a combination of metaphoric characters, irony,
and the pathos appeal to create an almost grotesque parody of the reality of war. In final analysis,
Howells is successful in highlighting the consequences of war and inspiring the audience to
question the wisdom of those who advocate armed conflict.... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, the author uses George as a metaphor for those who would fight, kill, and die in the
war; this element is an important part of the author s persuasive strategy. W.D. Howells wants to
appeal to the values and the emotional sensibility of his audience, for this reason, Howells
portrays George as passive and unsure of himself. George is fearful of the war and he sees no
glory in it. He believes that God is peaceful and the idea that God would advocate for war runs
counter to George s belief in peace. In short, the author uses George s story to illustrate the
consequences of war for the reader. This strategy works to persuade a resistant audience to relate to
George, hence, lowering their resistance to the anti war message of this piece.
W.D. Howells uses irony to illuminate the difference of perspective and conflict of interest
between Editha and George. Editha is so busy trying to fix what she believes is wrong with
George; she does not recognize the flaws in her own thinking. She secretly sees George as less
than he is because of his peaceful nature, and she does not imagine that George is aware of her
low regard of him. Editha uses three reasons to support her advocacy for the war, first, that to
fight in the war will be glorious. Second, that the war is ordained by God, and third, that to fight
for the country is to show devotion or loyalty. Similarly, war advocates have used these same
reasons to rally the citizens to battle in past wartimes.

Feature Matching
Determining the most beneficial augmentative and alternative communication device is a critical
component in AAC because it takes time and dedication to teach a client how to use the device as
well as teach others around them how to understand. Hypothetically if a SLP were to provide
wasted effort the results could have the potential to be devastating because in some circumstances
all the client has is little time. Lucky enough for speech language pathologists there are models for
assessment that provide guided intervention tactics. Assessment models can be described as feature
matching, the participation model, and or the universal design for learning. Typically, feature
matching is a quick and easy way to guide assessment because essentially... Show more content on

The participation model begins by identifying the participation patterns and communication needs
where the clinician then identifies participation barriers (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 108). SLP s
are then taught to differentiate between assessing opportunity barriers and assessing access barriers
in the concept that the working clinician evaluates policy, practice, facilitator skill, facilitator
knowledge, attitude, and current communication (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 108). The client s
current communication assessment includes a full assessment of their possible potential to increase
natural abilities, an assessment of potential environmental adaptations, and an assessment of the
potential to utilize AAC systems or devices (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 108). Once there has
been a thorough analysis the speech language pathologist should plan and implement interventions
that will span across the present and the future with a follow up to determine how effective the
intervention has been in advancing a client s participation (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p.

Ethnocentrism And Ethnocentrism In Japan
Ethnocentrism: Ethnic Homogeneity In many ways, Japan has been looked upon as a strangely
homogeneous society for much of its modern history. And for some, it stands as one of the most
homogeneous nation in the world. However, when looking at Japan as a whole, and considering
whether or not it homogeneity is a problem, or just another cultural phenomenon, one must look
towards the root cause of homogeneism in Japan. In Japan s past, it has has been questioned, as
well as assumed, that the growth of Japans homogeneous viewpoint was put forward by the
government of Japan, and was done so by circulating false accusations of its lineage. Which these
false stories of lineage, Japan has grown in its ethnocentric views and ways. Ethnocentrism, or...

One example of this happened back in the 1970 s and 1980 s when Japan only accepted a small
number of refugee s from Vietnam and other nations in the southern parts of Asia. Yet at the
same time Japan was bringing in labor for Korea and China before and during World War II.
Like stated before, once Japan felt itself become a weaker force in the world, and its own view
of itself suffered, ethnocentrism strived. Things started to change. Japan let in less cheep labor
and less refugees as a way to preserve its pureness. Another argument made by Japan when asked
why they had refused to bring in refugees at this time is very much the same argument made by
Japan s establishment today. The reason Japan accepts so little refugees and the like is that the
mono ethnic Japanese society has no tradition of accepting outsiders. However, as stated
previously, the case before World War II showed the opposite. To put things into todays
perspective, over the last few years, Japan has accepted about 2,560 refugees from around the
world, while the United Kingdom has accepted 117,161 refugees as of 2015. Keeping in mind that
the UK measures slightly less in square meters than Japan, so the reason cannot be made that there
is no room. Whether or not Japan is accepting refugees from outside of Japan

James Watson Critique
Another method that scientists do when they are researching is discussing and comparing your
experiment results or models with other scientists data or even your own to confirm or contradict
your idea. For example, in section 27, Watson and Crick finished building the next double helix
DNA structure model after a long wait for the metal bases that were required in order to continue
constructing it. In section 28, they found out that the data that both he and Rosy had supported the
structure that James and Francis had built. Rosy s idea that there had to be an outside backbone
and middle bases also worked hand in hand with the double helix model. By using others already
existing data, they were able to confirm that the model was strongly supported... Show more content

The very first man who is mentioned, is Francis Crick. In the beginning, Watson didn t know much
about crystallography and was unable to progress faster without the knowledge, so Crick taught him
about it. All throughout the adventure, Crick and Watson were constantly jamming their heads
together, working hard towards the discovery. This included gathering data, discussing theories
with, and even building model structures. Without Francis, the discovery of the structure of DNA
wouldn t have happened as soon as it did. Another important scientist mentioned is Maurice
Wilkins. In the first place, Wilkins was who inspired Watson to study DNA. When he presented
his photograph of crystallized DNA in Naples, that is what first caught Watson s attention and
drew him to the topic. Maurice was also someone who Watson and Crick shared their information
and discussed theories with. When Watson went to Maurice s lab to tell him about Linus Pauling
s incorrect paper, Maurice showed him the copies of X ray photographs that he had copied from
Rosalind Franklin. Speaking of Rosalind, she also played an important part in the discovery. She
was Maurice Wilkins assistant in the lab, someone who Maurice had gripes about because of her
moodiness and seemingly stubborn attitude. Despite this, no one can deny that her contribution was

The Development and Usage of Gas Warfare Essay
Gas warfare was first introduced in World War I and continued to be used throughout World War
II. It was most commonly used in the front lines, and was feared by many. Gas warfare was a
very effective war tactic. The effects of gases were unbearable, which is what caused them to be
so heavily feared. Luckily, by the time that World War II came about protective masks called, gas
masks had been invented. This resulted in a decrease of use in World War II compared to World
War I, however it did not totally destroy the effort ( Poison Gas and World War Two ). There
were many different purposes for gas warfare during World War I and II, gases could do anything
from merely disabling soldiers, to killing hundreds at a time. The reasoning... Show more content on

Symptoms appear much more slowly from a skin dosage than from a respiratory dosage.
Although skin absorption great enough to cause death may occur in 1 to 2 minutes, death may be

kills almost as rapidly. Although most gases are made to be lethal, some gases just inhabilitate
soldiers for a period of time, rather than killing them ( Chemical Warfare Weapons Fact Sheets

own symptoms and effects. The primary gases of World War I were Mustard, Phosgene, Chlorine
,
and a mix of Chlorine and Phosgene gases ( Research ). Mustard gas is probably the most
commonly known. Mustard gas was really painful because it caused the soldiers skin to blister.
However, its symptoms did not always appear right away. Some soldiers did not even realize they
had been infected with it until up to twelve hours later! One of the reasons it was so nasty was
because it could transfer through material onto the skin. It was given the nickname King of Gases
because of how commonly it was used. Another commonly used gas was Chlorine. Chlorine caused
many deaths. Even those who survived the original dose usually ended up dying later due to
pneumonia. The Chlorine gas caused acute bronchitis, and slowly suffocated those exposed to it.

Temple Expiatori De Familia Research Paper
When one thinks of a cathedral, he or she may not bring La Sagrada de Familia as their first

Barcelona is far more unique than most other temples or cathedrals all around the world. It has been

All of this was just to organize the Combatant Command Headquarters. A Joint Task Force still
needed to be stood up and damage on the ground still needed to be assessed in order to determine
what kind of aid Haiti was going to need. Selecting the JTF Commander was pretty easy for
SOUTHCOM. LTG Keen was identified as the JTF Commander for a plethora of reasons. He
had vast experience in the region, had built a personal relationship with the Commander of the
MINUSTAH contingent and he was on the ground in Haiti when the earthquake happened. Once
identified as the JTF H Commander, LTG Keen had to start piecing together a capable Joint Task
Force. Pieces of the puzzle, such as the USS Carl Vincent, the 22nd and 24th Expeditionary Strike
Forces as well as a BCT from the 82nd Airborne Division were identified almost immediately as
parts of the newly formed JTF. After reading this case study and some articles online, I initially
thought that the Department of Defense s response was going to be a huge failure. Failure in the
sense that this Geographic Combatant Command (GCC) was undermanned and unprepared and
this was going to cost the people of Haiti dearly due to the delayed response times while this
GCC was getting fully manned and properly organized; then I looked at the timeline. It is
astonishing what was accomplished so quickly by both the DOD and SOUTHCOM. Were they
fully prepared for the crisis? No. Were they

Creating Vulnerabilities
With the increasing use of technology today with computers, there are better ways we can came up

Millersburg Case Brief
MILLERSBURG A Millersburg area man on Tuesday denied being in possession of firearms as he
fled the scene where he was allegedly stalking a donut delivery driver.
Andrew L. Hershberger, 40, of 4607 Township Road 302, Millersburg, pleaded not guilty in
Holmes County Municipal Court to carrying a concealed weapon, menacing by stalking,
possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of improper handling of a
firearm in a motor vehicle.
If convicted, Hershberger faces up to six years in prison.
The charges stem from a Dec. 19 incident.
Millersburg Police were called that night to a reported disturbance at a gas station along state
Route 39. There, they were advised Hershberger, who had fled the gas station as they arrived, had
been following the delivery driver between his last four stops to local businesses, according to Sgt.

Hershberger not only admitted to following the deliveryman, but said he had several loaded
weapons a pistol on him, a pistol on the dashboard and a rifle in the back seat in his vehicle,
according to Shaner.
Hershberger said he thought he was compliant with Ohio s open carry law, which does not extend
to weapons in a vehicle, said Shaner.
Hershberger told the officer he had been following the deliveryman because he believed the man
was delivering either heroin or methamphetamine along his route and Hershberger indicated an
interest in intervening, said Shaner, noting police do not believe there was any substance to
Hershberger s claim.
During Hershberger s arrest, police found marijuana on him and in the car, where they also found
rolling papers, said Shaner.
Hershberger is next scheduled to appear in court for an April 13 pretrial conference. A jury trial is

OGILVY MATHER
PART 1:
One of the most definitive problems with Charlotte Beers brand stewardship was her
communicative process with upper level management. While it may be true that Beers was able to
develop a clear vision of Brand Stewardship and explain what that meant to her collaborative team
thirsty for change, the idea was only a concept at the end of their meeting summit.
It is essential to the success of any plan that a strategy must first be developed, and to that point,
Charlotte Beers was initially on track. She brought together a team to devise a vision and plan for
what Ogilvy Mather was to become, but she never fully developed what that strategy meant and
how it was to be implemented. This lack of strategy set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clients would be one of the top priorities for Ogilvy Mather because the need to understand the
concept of Brand Stewardship to invest in it, without their support of the idea the concept would be
defunct. The main objects of this communication strategy would be to first and foremost for them
to fully grasp the idea of Brand Stewardship and how it can work for their company. This is integral
because it is not only about understanding, but it s also about knowing the benefits of this service
and what it can do for their company. With the know, I would also want them to understand how
Ogilvy Mather will go about acting out these benefits through strategy and thoughtful planning.
The Core Disciplines play an extremely important role in the Brand Stewardship plan, as they
are the individuals who will be executing the idea. This group would be a priority because if they
do not understand the concept then neither will the client because they are the communicators,
they provide the examples and final product of what Brand Stewardship really is. The main
communicative object for the Core Disciplines would be for them to be able to clearly and
concisely define what Brand Stewardship is. If they are able to explain exactly what the message

The Myths Of College Majors
Myths of College Majors College students have the hardest time paying off their student loans, but
why? Well, most students usually pick their major based on their talents and their interests.(Source,
Time) This idea sounds like a smart move, but in fact it is putting students in a very difficult
situation. Since most majors end up making considerably less money in their first year out of
college, it is becoming more and more difficult for majors in the humanities and arts to pay off their
student loans.
When I chose my major, criminal justice, I did pick it because I had been involved with a police

I know from researching my career path that the salary I will receive because of my degree will be
ample to pay off my loans within a couple of years. Most students end up in debt because they don
t take the time to look ahead to the future. For some it is a $80,000 life experience which leaves a
future graduate with debt.
For an example, my stepfather is a general manager for a car dealership. We had a conversation
about college graduates who apply at his dealership for a salesperson job. These applicants have
zero experience and when you look at their college major, it has nothing to do with sales. He had
one individual who went to Anderson College. He was a music history major and during his
interview he said that he needed the job to pay for his college loan payments. He was over
$100,000 in debt. I found this shocking that someone would be that far in debt and they are not
even using their degree. This is a common issue with many graduates. A college degree is no
guarantee of economic success, but through a graduate s choice of their major, they can take at
least some steps toward boosting their odds. (Source, IM) I interviewed ten family and friends who
attended a college or university. Five out of ten people who went to college did not end up
graduating. All five who did not graduate did not have scholarships or grants and had to pay for
their tuition. Three of those five said it took over

Google Books and the Controversy
Google Books and the Controversy
The progress in relation to Google books has of late sparked a cause for closer look in relation to
the issue. All these problems have emanated from the argument by Google in the year 2005, that
the company would start a scanning process on books and digitalize them in order to create a web
based library for the world. By the year 2011, Google had gone ahead and rolled out this plan
working with various partners in the scanning certain books and availing them online. Google books
have faced controversy because of various issues such as copyright infringement. As pertains to
copyright infringement, there has been raging debate that Google was violating the provision by
scanning contents of books whose authors had not died in the past 70 years (Baksik 405).
There have also been issues regarding censorship and invasion of privacy, which probe a closer
look into this issue. Economic implications have also been among the important mention as
pertain to Google books with incisive looks also essential to help gather all the essential details.
Controversy has also stemmed in the basis of agreements, which seems to give Google an upper
hand in the arguments, an issue which is believed to be unfair to other players in the agreements.
Thus speaking, it can broadly be accepted that there are serious issues pertaining Google books that
have to be resolved if fairness is to be realized.

The Hateful Eight-Personal Narrative
The Hateful Eight
The splendid and cruel Quentin Tarantino now gives us an immeasurable American epic set for
the most part in only one room. Truth be told, the different areas and corners of that room begin
to feel as far off as urban areas or deserts. At one stage, a character recommends separating this
space to speak to the Unionist North and Confederate South, and it s not all that quite a bit of a
stretch to envision, in spite of the fact that the elusive severe amoralism of every last one is such
that tribal unwaveringness segment was never going to work. Tarantino has made another
stunningly snazzy and sharp film, a Jacobean western, insinuate yet some way or another peculiarly
huge, at the end of the day discharging his own particular sort of unwholesome insane interesting
brutal nitrous oxide into the silver screen assembly room for every one of us to breathe in.
Additionally, Tarantino now makes a genuine star of Walton Goggins, giving a silly execution as

Historical Background Of Australia s Industrial Relations
Trade unions have been prominent in Australia since the early nineteenth century, established to
improve and maintain the working conditions of workers through strategic industrial action
including strikes, collective bargaining with employers, and advertising campaigns. Typically,
Australia s industrial relations have been shaped by highly centralized Commonwealth and state
tribunal systems of conciliation and arbitration. However, the last three decades have seen
considerable changes in the legislative, economic, and social realms that have traditionally
governed the industrial relations of Australia, and the relevance of unions is under questioning.

This commitment lasted over a decade and fostered negotiation among employees, employers, and
governments outside of the formal industrial relations progressions (Chapman Gruen 1990; Morris

(AWAs) accessibility to ratify non union collective agreements under enterprise bargaining at the
workplace level, effectively decentralizing the union movement and reducing union control over
employee working conditions (ABS Cat No 4102.0). The Act saw the prohibition of compulsory
unionization and strengthened control that the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC)
had over illegal industrial action, allowing the AIRC to stipulate how much and for how long
industrial dispute was lawful (Van Gramberg 2001). This period also endured a major privatization
of the public sector occurred which promoted policies to foster a growth of precarious employment

India And The Birth Of Khalsa
Background: India and the Birth of Khalsa India is a vast country with rich and varied heritage. In
this unique country live followers of several religions, such as Hinduism, Islam, Christianity,
Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism and Sikhism. At the time of the birth of Guru Nanak, the
founder of the Sikhreligion, India was being ruled by Muslim kings. In their desire to control the
population of India, these kings resorted to oppressive tactics to convert all non Muslims to
Islam. They imposed several religious taxes and expressed blatant disrespect for places of
worship that did not coincide with their own, among other tactics. However, they were not
alone in doing so. The Hindu pundits and Brahmins also turned to unorthodox practices by
exploiting the people and forcing them to participate in expensive ceremonies and rituals. Both
Hinduism and Islam were being corrupted by the greedy tendencies of those considered
religious authorities . Guru Nanak was born in a Hindu family and retained an interest in
religion. His desire to explore beyond what had been given to him led him to leave home and
embark on a journey of sorts. At the age of 28, Guru Nanak went to a river to bathe and meditate
and returned three days later, filled with the spirit of God. He proclaimed that there is no Hindu
and no Muslim, and upon this he began his work as a missionary and the Sikh religion was born.
Founded in 1469 A.D. by Guru Nanak, Sikhism is the youngest of the world religions

His fascination with silk screen as an instrument for mass production led him to open a studio,

The Factory became a center for pop and would be pop stars. It attracted a wide variety of
glamorous people and an assortment of characters in the art and performing worlds. Although
many of Warhol s films, such as Sleep (1963), Eat (1963), and Empire (1965), were lengthy
depictions of the most mundane activity or object, some of his works anticipated future film
themes or ridiculed certain subjects. Lonesome Cowboys (1968) treated homosexuality when it
was taboo as a subject for commercial films and, at the same time, challenged the cowboy myth of
courageous, macho riders of the range. With such works as Flesh (1968) and Trash (1970), Warhol
focused on sexual themes. These were the forerunners of the pornographic film market of the
1970s and 1980s. By the mid 1970s his Andy Warhols Dracula (1974) and Andy Warhol s
Frankenstein (1974) enjoyed commercial success as satiric yet serious works. From 1963 to 1974,
he had been involved in the production of more than sixty films of varying quality and subject

Descriptive Essay About Michaelmas
Michaelmas
Every year, on the colorful fall day of September 29th, Sacramento Waldorf School hosts a festival
where good triumphs and evil parishes. Young girls and boys eagerly dress up as knights, to help
Saint George and Saint Michael conquer and tame the malicious dragon, through good actions and
deeds. Along with fun activities, caramel apples, and motivating spirit, Michaelmas is a special

Michaelmas is a whole school event, where grades first through twelve are assigned a different

first through fourth grade), Knights (played by the fifth grade) the dragon (Played by the sixth grade

giant circle, created by everyone attending the festival. A town of poor villages are fearful of a
dragon, who is merciless and cruel. One day, the dragon attacks the village, leaving the villagers
desperate and frightened. All the noble knights flee in fear, except for one, Saint George. Saint
George bravely faces the dragon, but instead of using his sword, he kneels and prays to saint

Why The Artifact Was Selected
Why the Artifact was Selected This artifact was a seminar paper written as a literature review to
address topics, theories, issues, and trends in HRD in the course Seminar in Human Resource
Development. This artifact considers strategic human resource management (SHRM) practices in
terms of what human resource (HR) practitioners are doing and how it affects the organizations
they are doing it in and the field of human resource development (HRD). Definitions of SHRM are
represented as; a human resource system designed for the mandates of business strategy and a
planned model of human resourcesactivities to allow the organization to achieve its goals. It
reports SHRM information found in literature and relates it to the study of HRD. I selected this
artifact because it compares and contrasts SHRM approaches of HRD and analyzes each of their
strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, the artifact evaluates and clarifies the importance of
SHRM to HRD and its purpose and goal within an organization.
Alignment of the Artifact to the Learning Outcome This artifact gave me the opportunity to
analysis and synthesis twenty years of literature relating to historical trends, research, and theories
and apply them to current HRD practices. A knowledge of the field of HRD and its historical
development is not enough. It is essential as a practitioner to see the relationships between practice
guidelines and the strategies of HRD as they relate to organizational benefits. This artifact

For this semester of TCH 209 I am working with a second grade girl named Yainany. After taking
a few running records I found out that she is at a level H reading level which would be the
equivalent of a high first grade reader. To get to know my student I printed out a readingsurvey and
a get to know you worksheet. The reading survey was asking questions about what genres of books
she likes, what are some of her favorite things (books, tv shows, animals, sports, characters, jobs,
activities), if reading is fun for her, if reading is easy for her, if she reads at home, and how she
likes to read. The get to know you worksheet had her color her own person based on some of her
favorite things like her favorite color, if she likes to read, her favorite subject, the color of her eyes,
and how many siblings she has. These helped me get to know her as a reader and as a person by
knowing how she reads and what interests her. One assessment that I did with my student was
three running records. I did a Level J book, a Level I, and a Level H book. For the first book, Level
J, she got an 85% which was not high enough to be her reading level. I then went to a Level I book
and she got an 92% which was still not high enough to be her reading level. The last book I did
in my running records assessment was the Level H book and with that book she got a 95% which
was high enough to be her reading level and she does a great job reading books at that level.

The Louisiana Science Education Act Essay
In the United States, evolution and creationism remain a controversial issue as far as which
method should stay in science classes across the globe. How was the earth created? How were
humans created? These are questions that arise in most science classes. Many students require an
explanation of why people exist. There are those who would oppose evolution, and there are those
who oppose creationism. Is there a significant difference between these methods? Several states
have passed regulations that allow schools to teach both evolution and creationism. The Louisiana
Science Education Act, in particular, is a highly controversial debate. The act allows teachers to
teach adscititious materials in the classroom. Many opponents are looking to repeal this law. The
Louisiana Science Education Act should not be repealed as it allows the student to engage in
critical thinking skills, acknowledge both theories and ultimately decide which theory they believe.
Looking back at our history creationism was the first explanation of why humans exist today. Since
the beginning of time Christianity has played a significant role in religion. Christianity started in
Jerusalem and expanded into many different denominations across the world. Therefore,
Christianity is a religion based off of Jesus Christ and God the creator of the earth. Creationism

The long range infantry weapon of the 1700 s was the musket. The musket is stronger than the bow
and arrow. The kinetic energy and momentum of an 18mm musket ball shooting from a Brown
Bess musket are 1460 joules and 9.36 kg*m/s. The kinetic energy and momentum of an arrow
being shot from a bow are 16.5 joules and 1.15 kg*m/s. The musket ball clearly has a much
stronger momentum and kinetic energy than the arrow, which means it has more stopping power.
Firearms of the 1700 s also have much greater maximum range than bows and arrows. If a Brown
Bess was fired at a forty five degree angle in a frictionless environment, the musket ball would
travel 9783 meters. If a bow fired it s arrow at forty five degrees in a frictionless environment, it
would travel only one hundred and nineteen meters. The musket has more than eighty two times the
maximum range of the bow and arrow. Some might say that bows and arrows are stronger than
muskets, but that is not entirely true. Most people refer to muskets and rifles of the eighteen and
nineteenth century only as smooth bore barrel muskets. Muskets barrels later became rifled in the
nineteenth century and are much more accurate than their smooth bore relatives. Not only are
muskets more lethal than bows and arrows, but cannons and artillery are more lethal than medieval

devotional purity making him a greater warrior than even his prominent father.
For one thing, Sir Lancelot du Lac is viewed to be the greatest and worst knight of king Arthur s
Round Table. Firstly, Lancelot is widely known to be the greatest swordsman of the Round
Table. Legend tells that as a child, Lancelot is left by the lake, where he is found by Vivian, the
Lady of the Lake. She raises and fosters him, and in time Lancelot became one of legend s most
powerful knights. Additionally, he never failed in gentleness, courtesy, or in courage. He is said
to be the bravest and most pure of heart and is always willing to help others, saving a tremendous
amount of people during his lifetime. Nonetheless, Lancelot is also conflicted as the ill made
knight who commits the horrible sin of adultery. Queen Guinevere, King Arthur s wife, and
Lancelot fall deeply in love and have an affair that is eventually revealed by Mordred. Lancelot
betrays the trust of Arthur and goes against his vows as a knight. Because of this sin, Lancelot feels

Second Grade General Elementary Classroom Observation
For my observation, I observed a second grade general education classroom at Emmanuel
Children s Mission. The day of my observation, I met with Mrs. Cooper, the classroom teacher to
go over the purpose of me examining her classroom, which is to observe three students. I
observed two boys and a girl, one African American boy and the other boy and girl were
Hispanic. They all were seven years old. Student A, the African American boy according Mrs.
Cooper, he is on the spectrum and receives small group instruction through RTI. Student B, who
is the Hispanic boy he is learning well thus far, without any signs of a learning disability and so
is student C, the girl. The math lesson that was taught is addition, the objectives of the lesson
was to add three or more numbers, to decompose a number in three or more addends and to solve
problems by decomposing numbers. For example, the students had to solve how many ways the
penguins can get to the carnival. There were a total of ten penguins and the first problem was to
use four ice bergs, placing the ten penguins on the ice bergs to get the total sum of ten penguins.
For instance, one penguin was placed on the first ice berg and another penguin was placed on the
second ice berg,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cooper used the student along with the manipulatives to re explain the lesson, I noticed that both
students A and C started to become more engaged in the lesson. In addition, to evaluating students
A and C comprehension of the lesson, Mrs. Cooper had then work in groups. Using the same
concept, they use four ice bergs. They put one penguin on the first ice berg, on the second ice berg
they put two penguins, the third ice berg they put three penguins, and the fourth ice berg they put
four penguins. After they completed their groups and added them up to get the answer ten, they
then explained the result by saying the penguins can get to the carnival in groups of one, twos,
threes, and fours, which gives you a sum total of ten

Morocco Cities Chapter Summaries
Loti enjoys the city as he walks about dressed in Arab garb. When he returns to the quarters of the
French Minister, the Arab men encourage him to continue to dress in the clothes of Morocco when
he returns to France. Loti sees the French Minister and his other colleagues sitting at lunch
European style, he realizes he has returned to the modern world and these quarters are really a little
corner of France (Loti, Pg. 232).
At the bazaar, he laments the general uncleanliness of Morocco. The ground is covered with liter,
with animal excrement, and with dead mice. How far removed is all this life from ours! (Loti, Pg.
235).
With the letter from the Sultan, Lito meets the young pasha and they rides into Mekinez together

Persuasive Essay For Dog Park
Dog parks are a staple of urban and suburban areas, a place where dog owners can congregate and
converse about the local gossip, or goings on about the neighborhood. Over the past 12 months, a
group of people have come together to propose allocating land for a dog park in Weston and
tensions are running high.
Surprisingly, the dog park has met with a strong degree of controversy. For the better part of the
last year, there have been multiple hearings involving the dog park. The latest meeting occurred just
last week and there is still no resolution about how to proceed.
Maria Proto, a long time Weston resident started the campaign for the dog park. She has a lot to
say. When I spoke to her last week, she said, One of the benefits that a lot of people don t realize
when they don t go to dog parks regularly is that it is not just socialization for your animals. So that
s one of the benefits for your animals get socialized well and well socialized dogs are usually less
aggressive towards other dogs but is also a way for people to go out and meet each other ... I
would love to meet my fellow Westonites who have dogs. I have also been told by some people
that it is very hard to meet people in our town because there aren t many events in Weston to go to.
While many residents are in support of the formation of the park, there are many people on the
other side. Just ask Bill Theriault. He is worried that if Weston puts money to this dog park it will
take money away for many

How Does Realism And Idealism Affect Our International...
Amidst Political Idealism, Realism
The theories of realism and idealism are as old as politics, itself. There has always been one group
looking as things as they are, asking finite questions like how much will it cost, examining actions
over intentions and another group aiming for how things should be while asking is this morally
right, just or conscionable?. How does realism and idealism affect our international political
landscape? Although theory suggests that politicians operate from one camp or another, is it
impossible to navigate life supporting every initiative of one camp or another? One may in fact
possess an idealistic viewpoint or attitude overall but, cast a vote for a more realistic solution of a
particular situation.
Evidence suggests that descriptors of realism and idealism are blurred lines, although it is in direct
conflict with the teachings of political science, which have not changed much since inception.
...one cannot understand Hitler s Germany and Stalin s Soviet Union, the two most destructive
states of the twentieth century... Both regimes were driven by the desire to remake first their
societies and then the world. Neither took the state as the unit whose interests were to be served;
no narrow self interest or considerations of national security or even national gain could have led
to such domestic slaughter and dangerous expansions. Jervis, R. (1998). There are many examples
of overlapping realism and idealism. A group of realists and

Green Incentives in Malaysia
Environmental sustainability is gaining much focus in the recent years as people are beginning to
strive for a balance between economic growth and sustainability. In fact, many developed countries
such as UK, Japan have implemented strict environmental policies to enhance the quality on the
environment and to preserve the sustainabilityof its resources. It is viewed that Malaysia s effort has
been marginal in achieving effective management of resources, pollution control and prevention of
environmental degradation.

WASTE RECYCLING
Solid waste is one of the environmental problems that are often overlooked by Malaysian. Due to
the increasing population and development, generation of solid waste continues to increase and it is

Turning to math seemed an easy choice for me because I had been passionate about math since elementary school. I started to learn Olympic Mathematics in second grade and enjoyed the challenging topics. I was soon able to learn by myself with the help of training in logical thinking. When I was forced to stay at home for a whole school year due to a heart problem, I read the textbooks on my own and passed the final exams so that I could continue with my class the next year. In fifth grade, I was able to understand abstract concepts such as linear equations and use x and y to represent unknown variables. Winning numerous Olympic Mathematics competitions awards got me into the best middle school and high school in Beijing, where I continued to pursue my affection in Olympic Mathematics. • 3. Nero s Domus Aurea And The Colosseum The Colosseum has been standing for over 1900 years but before discussing the Colosseum s achievements, it is important to understand the historical context and background of the building. How can a place go from being a symbol of extreme tyranny and private wealth to a symbol of one of the greatest entertainment venues and architectural feats? The Roman Colosseumdid just that. It completely changed the public attitude and activity since it was built upon the grounds of what was once the part of Golden House of Nero (Domus Aurea). Although both Nero s Domus Aurea and the Colosseum are architecturally supreme and complex, the area holds rich history of private decadent excess to a public attraction making them supreme and complex in two different ways. Nero was the fifth Roman emperor of the Julio Claudian line who ruled from 54 68 CE. Nero did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Agrippa did everything in her power to ensure Nero s reign and control the government, eventually many people were killed including Claudius. Nero was only seventeen when he became emperor in 54. • 4. Burial In Sophocles Antigone In Sophocles play Antigone, two brothers, Eteocles and Polynices fight for the thrown of Thebes. The war comes to an end when both brothers die fighting for the honor, and their uncle Creon becomes the king of Thebes. Upon his coronation, Creon issues a decree that Eteocles, the former king of Thebes, will be honored with a traditional military burial, while his brother Polynices will be left unwept, unburied, a lovely treasure for birds that scan the field and feast to their heart s content (Sophocles, 60). Antigone, one of the two sisters, outraged by this ruling, takes matters into her own hands and goes against this newly established law by properly burying her brother. Ultimately Antigone sets aside the political law and does what s morally right by honoring her brother with a traditional burial. I will argue that Antigone s decision to bury her brother was the right decision. While she may have disobeyed the law put in place by the newly appointed inexperienced king of Thebes, she was in turn honoring her brother and the long standing traditions and expectations of the g ds, principles much more important than the arbitrary laws of the state. I would argue that most importantly, Creon s law was arbitrary. Creon says in a discussion he has with Haemon, Am I to rule this land for others or myself? after a short dialogue back and forth where Haemon argues that a city is not owned by one man alone, Creon declares that The city is the king s that s the law ... It follows the story of Sig Mickelson played by Jeff Daniels. A newscaster who is set in his values, exposing corruption, and keeping the government in line. In a time when America was having a communist red scare. This film did transitions amazingly every time a there was a major change in the plot. The audience hears a female singing in a film with almost no music at all. This really help the audience see that some major change is happening. And on the topic of transitions/ camera work. A lot of the transitions are very creative for example one of the shots was shot through a mirror in the set piece showing the characters. It also ended rather abruptly which might have been what Clooney was going for. The problem with not wrapping up the film and leaving open end/ to the audience s imagination. Is that it loses all mass market appeal. It also is a lot harder on the audience to connect all the threads in the plot. This seems to be found in a lot of these art house/film festival films. But overall it just feels like the film could have been two hours not the 90 minutes that it is. Now saying that this is one film that would be not the same if you cut 10 minutes out of. I personally believe that obstacles are present in order to demonstrate how much one really desires to achieve a particular goal. While growing up, I was a stereotypical awkward pre teen that grew too fast for his age: I was not fast enough for basketball, not coordinated enough for baseball, and definitely not nimble enough for soccer. It was here in middle schoolwhen I was faced with obstacles, but it is how I dealt with these obstacles that taught me many lessons and turned me into the person I am today. Although I was not seen as athletic, I still had a love for sports. I would spend some of my free time watching English soccer games or highlights, wishing that I could play like them. I could not wait to try out for soccer, and hopefully make it. On the first day, I sat down on the bench, put on my cleats, and got ready for tryouts. • 12. Editha, by William Dean Howells Essay William Dean Howells was an advocate of realism in writing; he believed that literary art should reflect the reality of the common man and demonstrate the truth of everyday current issues. He believed in truthful writing and he accepted very little at face value. He practiced this belief in his own writing, and his story called Editha is a good example of this. In this ironic tragedy, W.D. Howells shows the truthand nature of war. He uses a combination of metaphoric characters, irony, and the pathos appeal to create an almost grotesque parody of the reality of war. In final analysis, Howells is successful in highlighting the consequences of war and inspiring the audience to question the wisdom of those who advocate armed conflict.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, the author uses George as a metaphor for those who would fight, kill, and die in the war; this element is an important part of the author s persuasive strategy. W.D. Howells wants to appeal to the values and the emotional sensibility of his audience, for this reason, Howells portrays George as passive and unsure of himself. George is fearful of the war and he sees no glory in it. He believes that God is peaceful and the idea that God would advocate for war runs counter to George s belief in peace. In short, the author uses George s story to illustrate the consequences of war for the reader. This strategy works to persuade a resistant audience to relate to George, hence, lowering their resistance to the anti war message of this piece. W.D. Howells uses irony to illuminate the difference of perspective and conflict of interest between Editha and George. Editha is so busy trying to fix what she believes is wrong with George; she does not recognize the flaws in her own thinking. She secretly sees George as less than he is because of his peaceful nature, and she does not imagine that George is aware of her low regard of him. Editha uses three reasons to support her advocacy for the war, first, that to fight in the war will be glorious. Second, that the war is ordained by God, and third, that to fight for the country is to show devotion or loyalty. Similarly, war advocates have used these same reasons to rally the citizens to battle in past wartimes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And for some, it stands as one of the most homogeneous nation in the world. However, when looking at Japan as a whole, and considering whether or not it homogeneity is a problem, or just another cultural phenomenon, one must look towards the root cause of homogeneism in Japan. In Japan s past, it has has been questioned, as well as assumed, that the growth of Japans homogeneous viewpoint was put forward by the government of Japan, and was done so by circulating false accusations of its lineage. One example of this happened back in the 1970 s and 1980 s when Japan only accepted a small number of refugee s from Vietnam and other nations in the southern parts of Asia. Yet at the same time Japan was bringing in labor for Korea and China before and during World War II. Like stated before, once Japan felt itself become a weaker force in the world, and its own view of itself suffered, ethnocentrism strived. Things started to change. Japan let in less cheep labor and less refugees as a way to preserve its pureness. Another argument made by Japan when asked why they had refused to bring in refugees at this time is very much the same argument made by Japan s establishment today. The reason Japan accepts so little refugees and the like is that the mono ethnic Japanese society has no tradition of accepting outsiders. However, as stated previously, the case before World War II showed the opposite. To put things into todays perspective, over the last few years, Japan has accepted about 2,560 refugees from around the world, while the United Kingdom has accepted 117,161 refugees as of 2015. In this unique country live followers of several religions, such as Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism and Sikhism. At the time of the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikhreligion, India was being ruled by Muslim kings. In their desire to control the population of India, these kings resorted to oppressive tactics to convert all non Muslims to Islam. They imposed several religious taxes and expressed blatant disrespect for places of worship that did not coincide with their own, among other tactics. However, they were not alone in doing so. The Hindu pundits and Brahmins also turned to unorthodox practices by exploiting the people and forcing them to participate in expensive ceremonies and rituals. Both Hinduism and Islam were being corrupted by the greedy tendencies of those considered religious authorities . Guru Nanak was born in a Hindu family and retained an interest in religion. His desire to explore beyond what had been given to him led him to leave home and embark on a journey of sorts. At the age of 28, Guru Nanak went to a river to bathe and meditate and returned three days later, filled with the spirit of God. After taking a few running records I found out that she is at a level H reading level which would be the equivalent of a high first grade reader. To get to know my student I printed out a readingsurvey and a get to know you worksheet. The reading survey was asking questions about what genres of books she likes, what are some of her favorite things (books, tv shows, animals, sports, characters, jobs, activities), if reading is fun for her, if reading is easy for her, if she reads at home, and how she likes to read. The get to know you worksheet had her color her own person based on some of her favorite things like her favorite color, if she likes to read, her favorite subject, the color of her eyes, and how many siblings she has. These helped me get to know her as a reader and as a person by knowing how she reads and what interests her. One assessment that I did with my student was three running records. I did a Level J book, a Level I, and a Level H book. For the first book, Level J, she got an 85% which was not high enough to be her reading level. I then went to a Level I book and she got an 92% which was still not high enough to be her reading level. There are those who would oppose evolution, and there are those who oppose creationism. Is there a significant difference between these methods? The act allows teachers to teach adscititious materials in the classroom. Many opponents are looking to repeal this law. The Louisiana Science Education Act should not be repealed as it allows the student to engage in critical thinking skills, acknowledge both theories and ultimately decide which theory they believe.
