Who Is John Steinbeck A Tragic Hero
Money cannot solve all your problems, it can actually create more. Usually, when you receive
something great, you think you will be able to benefit from it. Well, in The Pearl by John Steinbeck,
that is not the case. Kino cannot afford to get treatment for his infant son, Coyotito. He then goes
diving for pearls and finds the Pearl of the World. Kino s life goes from great to bad as he keeps the
pearl. His downfall is inevitable. John Steinbeck s creation. Kino, is an example of a tragic hero. Kino
is a tragic hero due to him representing Aristotle s characteristics in the book. They are Hamartia,
Anagnorisis, and Catastrophe.
One reason Kino was a tragic hero was because of Hamartia. Hamartia is the mortal flaw, defect, and

The Roman And Roman Rome
The Roman Catacombs
Rome today is a bustling and diverse city teeming with history and culture that dates back to
thousands of years. This rich cultural intertwine is evident with its seeming myriad of historical
monuments, relics, and construction that allude to various ancient cultures. Rome s ground level
environment is truly an architectural, cultural, and spiritual hearth for things of the past; however, this
area is truly only the tip of the iceberg . Underneath Rome s floors lies a seemingly unending expanse
of tunnels and chambers that makeup The Roman Catacombs. Inside the cavernous pathways of Rome
s catacombs is a plethora of religious and cultural history that provides historians today with an
unfathomable source of early Roman and Christian history. Regardless of discrepancies over its use
and origins, the Roman catacombs are indispensable for providing insight on the culture, beliefs, and
social location of early Christians. Due to the Roman Catacomb s ancient origins, there are several
discrepancies concerning aspects of the catacombs origin and use. However, there are several
elements of this architectural wonder that are generally accepted among scientists and archaeologists
today. The Roman Catacombs are generally accepted to have begun construction in the early third
century, and stopped use around the fifth century ( 339 Nature. com). These figures are attained
through radiometric dating of various points in the catacombs: from areas of earliest

Key Competency For Achieving High Performance
Enabling others in any organization is such a viable act. Leaders are aware that things cannot be done
alone so including their employees and team members is what has to happen. Successful managers
take a great deal of team to ensure that they have a great, trustworthy team to back up the
organization. They work together to create goals and they establish relationships along the way
showing their team members that they care for their well being. Collaboration is such a crucial
competency for achieving high performance in an organization (Kouzes Posner, 2012). A leader is not
able to start a brand new team with working together. It takes a great deal of trust and collaboration in
order to get others to work together properly. A leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are situations that could arise where a team member loses trust or a leader loses trust in a team
member. While mistakes do happen, it s up to the leader and their team to establish a truthful
relationship so that if a situation arises, it could be handled. Opening up to either a leader or a team
member can be a very difficult task. If an individual is one where they have had a bad experience, it
could be very difficult for one to accomplish this. Leaders should always go first in opening up
because it allows for a high level of performance amongst teams and it also creates a trusting
environment for employees (Kouzes Posner, 2012). Bankers sometimes have a bad reputation because
they are not able to be trusted. If they chose to not be trusted then others with not trust them. It s very
simply stated and very easy for them change if they wanted to. The face of banking could have a
different reputation but it s the leaders and management who ruin it for everyone else. Being sensitive
to what other team members are going through creates a great relationship that allows others to keep
coming back for more. Employees should be able to turn to their manager and communicate with them
if they are having a rough day in the office or in their personal life. A lot of employers use the
expression of leaving your personal life at the door when you walk into the office. Great leaders that

Composed Upon Westminster Bridge By William Wordsworth And...
The two poems Composed upon Westminster Bridge by William Wordsworth and London by William
Blake s both show sharp contrasting views about the city of London. Wordsworth sees the beauty in
London whilst Blake only sees the ugliness. It is through these different perspectives of London that
both poets present their ideas of nature, darkness and suffering.
In London , Blake portrays a gloomy perspective of London, whereas in Composed upon Westminster
Bridge Wordsworth s tone is bright and buoyant leading the readers to paint an optimistic picture of
London. Blake chooses to describe London s midnight streets in order to reinforce the theme of
London s darkness and represents a city full of misery whilst Wordsworth, describes The ... Show

The fact that Marriage hearse is in a neat rhyming structure makes the words drum into the readers
head more making it easier to remember and to paint a mental picture in the readers mind.
Both Blake and Wordsworth use similar literary devices of first person, tone and imagery to describe
their thoughts about London, however these techniques have a different effect in each poem. Blake
uses dark imagery to suggest poverty, bloodshed, disease and death in order to convince the reader of
the melancholy and morbidity of the city whilst Wordsworth uses imagery to portray a charming and
entrancing London, full of splendour, tranquillity and serenity. Wordsworth also uses imagery to
provide the reader with the idea that London is a quiet and peaceful city. Wordsworth uses simile to
describe the city s beauty, this is evident in the line This city now doth, like a garment, wear the
beauty of the morning; silent, bare . His use of simile in this line suggests that the city is clothed in
beauty however it is a beauty that is removed when people wake as suggested by the use of the word
garment . Blake also uses first person in London to increase the immediacy of his tone and to narrate
the things he observes as he walks through the streets of London. In the first stanza, it opens near the
River Thames where he observes that everything he sees is chartered . the use of the word

Digital Technology Into The Learning Process Essay
Academia has been slow to incorporate digital technology into the learning process, and English
courses seem to lag behind most other subject areas. Even when trying, College professors are
challenged because post secondary students separate into different stratifications... according to their
previous academic, social, and professional experiences with computers experiences that, in turn, are
often dependent on age, class, race, and gender (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). These stratifications create
Rainie s definition of the digital divide: the gap between those who access and use computers and the
internet and those who do not (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). Many students can access the internet or
computers, but there is an additional expectations in collegiate education. Writing centers regularly
work with students who cannot confidently or successfully use technology for academic purposes,
which becomes a primary barrier to their academic success. Writing centers need to actively attempt to
reduce this divide through instruction, application, and adaptation to help struggling students.
Recognizing the Divide
Literacy with technology takes on additional expectations when considering collegiate academics
which creates a digital divide. This digital divide exists in most colleges at multiple levels: Students,
faculty, and staff all have different digital experiences. This digital divide exists in most colleges at

would wear the brand s clothes; however now it just shifts that focus to the actual clothes.
How strong is the brand story? What are the core brand associations and meaning narratives
associated with the brand?
The brand story was considered very strong. It is a high end brand that accounts such as
Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, etc. appreciated because it was the best performing brand. It could have
been too strong, before the repositioning, because it shifted certain segments away. People associated
the brand as for older people, well established in their careers as well as a mom/grandmother brand. It
had a very strong brand loyalty associated with it. As the company grew older so did its customers.
Some people did not want to be associated with that, and did not buy the brand; therefore shifting
younger segments away.
How healthy is the brand at the time of the case?
At the time of the case the brand was healthy but it was at a vulnerable point. There had been
economic downfall, so the industry as a whole was suffering but Eileen Fisher was stronger than its
competitors. Economic factors forced customers to go to discount brands and shy away from
department stores, therefore not only was Eileen Fisher losing customers its competitors were as well.

Describe how the city of Boston and the people living there changed between 1850 and 1900. Lisa A

The history of Boston is one of many changes and growth since its renaming in
1630. Going from a small British settlement initially limited to the Shawmut Peninsula to a busy
merchant seaport in 1850 to the industrial metropolis by the 1900 s. The changes can be seen in three
main areas sizes, population, and ethnic composition. The city more than tripled its sizes by filling in
marshes, mud flats, and gaps between wharves down by the waterfront. Starting in 1807, they used the

The s Mini Research Paper Essay
Santa Iglesia Advanced English 1, Per. 7 14 November 2016 OMS Mini Research Paper The word
man has a very simple definition: an adult male ( The Definition ). However, there are many symbols
and meanings being it. A Native American picture known as Man in a Maze, originally called I itoi,
depicts a man standing at the entrance of a maze. At the center is the man s dreams where God greets
him and passes him into the next world. The center is not easy to reach, for there are many twists and
turns in the maze itself. The maze symbolizes life and the difficulties man has to go through to reach
the end and move on. In this instance man is naive, but represents strength, and must go through the
challenges faced through existence in order to find the way to the finish ( The Symbol ). Another
simple, yet very complex word beyond its basic definition, is old . The book definition of old is to
have existed for a long time ( I Found ). The word old is associated with wisdom because a lot of
experience is thought to be gained during long periods of time. When combining the two words, old
and man, a new and very intricate symbol is made. Old man symbolizes wisdom of humanity and the
power of great knowledge. The phrase old man is also associated with high status and special powers
because with great wisdom comes significant respect from less experienced individuals (Cirlot). Joe

The Pros And Cons Of Being Against Open Marriage
Reasons why everyone should be against open marriage is because you married the person that you
wanted to love and spend the rest of your life with. You are breaking the marital vows. When marrying
someone you are making a commitment to be loyal. According to J.B. Chachila, What we commit to
be not just to take on that person, to uphold that person s dream, and to meet that person s needs. We
actually commit to becoming one that person. When people have a open marriage is when one
companion breaks the pre established rules of marriage. Open marriages show that your love and
commitment should be questioned because why marry someone when all they want to do is go out and
do things with other people while married. If two people are perfect for each other than they shouldn t
be in an open marriage because they are together because they are supposedly perfect for each other. If
you aren t happy with the person you are currently married to then what was the point of marrying
them in the first place. Before you are officially you say special marital vows to each other to promise
that you be there for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. According to Romans 7:3,
Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive.
But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an
adulteress. The reason everyone says vows is because they are supposed to show a public

Negative Effects Of Evictions
Eviction s Effects
Those who have experienced evictions are forced into multiple logistical housing situations. Due to
the stigma associated with a court ordered eviction, landlords would often engage in rent screenings to
ensure that potential renters not only have a clean criminal record but also an eviction free record
(Desmond, 2016). As Desmond discusses (2016), the landlord s double barrier screening is shielding
their neighborhood from criminality and poverty. Correspondingly, some landlords knowingly do not
engage in these screening practices as a business model to potentially profit off of the poor (Desmond,
2012a). As the person who is evicted fall into the bottom of the rental market, the housing fate of the

Children who are exposed to these housing insecure households are susceptible to low birth weights,
asthma, depression, behavioral issues, and educational delays (BARHII, 2016). In addition, physical
health can include being exposed to sexual harassment. Tester (2008) reports that some landlords
aware of a tenant s economic status and need for housing used their positional authority to sexually
coerce tenants. Unfortunately, due to housing availability, Tester s (2008) work described female
renters precarious situation as women failed to report the sexual harassment due to fear of retaliation
and housing needs.
Households that undergo eviction are at a 20% higher level of material hardship (Desmond, 2016,
293). Those who have undergone an eviction have a 15% chance of being terminated by their
employer (Desmond, 2016, p. 293). This potential financial burden can be magnified on account that
many lose their possessions as a result of the eviction and risk having to re obtain clothing, appliances,
and other items. As Desmond (2016) explains, evicted families working on securing habitable housing
would be forced into paying for storage that ran around $100 dollars per month (p.132). Sometimes
people would fall behind in paying for their items and would result in the evicted individual not just
losing their home, transportation costs, sometimes their job, the storage rental, but now their

Aphra Behn introduces her characters in Oroonoko as beautiful people who possess a pure, innocent

Scorching A Laminate Kitchen Counter
Laminate kitchen counters are easy to burn or scorch with a hot pan. To avoid damaging your kitchen
counter top, you should always use a trivet. However, if an accident does occur, you can try a few
different methods to fix the burn on a laminate kitchen counter. Step 1: Create a paste with baking
soda and water. Use steel wool to work the paste into the burned area, and lift the stain. TIP: If a
baking soda paste will not lift the stain on the counter, try using Ajax or Comet and water to create a
paste to attempt to lift the stain. Step 2: Use a sponge and water to remove the paste after you have
finished scrubbing. Dry the area with a rag. Step 3: Buff the kitchen with carnuaba wax to provide a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Haematoxylin
Abstract
Haematoxylin is a natural dye which stains poorly unless it is combined with different metallic salts
known as mordants. A mordant is a metal with a valence of at least two. The most common metals
used in histology are aluminum and ferric iron (both have a valence of three).
The combination of haematoxylin and a mordant is called a haematoxylin lake. There are several
haematoxylin lakes and they vary in colour. The different types of haematoxylin lakes are: Alum
haematoxylin solutions
An effective nuclear staining alum haematoxylin solution requires three main items: the dye
(haematoxylin or haematein), mordant (an aluminum salt) and the solvent (water being the simplest).
These solutions contain potassium alum or ammonium alum as ... Show more content on

Hence, it is useful for photomicrography. This technique uses iron alum as a differentiating agent and

mitochondria, chromatin, chromosomes, nucleoli, centrioles, nuclear membrane, cross striations of

Conformative Consequences Of John Winthrop
John Winthrop The effects of the post Columbian world would have profound transformative
consequences upon the Americas. As Spanish and Portuguese claimed huge swaths of the Southern
Americas the northern regions were up for grabs by English, Dutch and French colonists. One of the
most consequential of these colonists was the Englishman, John Winthrop. Winthrop was a deeply
devout man, earning the label of Puritan for his pure beliefs. When given the opportunity to establish a
colony Winthrop eagerly embraced the opportunity, partly because of King Charles I anti puritan
policies. In the spring of 1640, Winthrop sailed on the Arbella with the goal of establishing a model
Christian colony, one that would be a divine City upon a hill. ... Show more content on

Winthrop looked onto the bible for much of his guidance on how to deal with things going on in the
colonies. Many of the puritans believed in how everything Winthrop was doing was correct. One of
good accomplishments towards the puritans was that he made them realize they needed to be literate
and he set an educational foundation for them. Since the puritans trusted his word and followed him
they knew that everything had to be done by bible reading and writing because that s how they can
ingest God s word; along with this they made sure to keep a spiritual journal. By 1647 many of
colonies such as Charlestown, Dorchester, Salem, etc. followed his lead by implying many of the
households to have a reading and writing instructor which made the view of John Winthrop even
better. For others, Winthrop was a villain whose spiritual impulses quickly devolved from doting
father to tyrannical Puritan. In his 12 terms as Governor, Winthrop clashed with many of his following
colonists because of his strict theocratic beliefs. Most famously, these tyrannical impulses were
demonstrated in Winthrop s conflict with Anne Hutchinson in 1636. While many believed his aims
were pure they believed methods were antithetical to true Christian morality. Winthrop also believed
that God wanted all Indians gone since they were dying of smallpox so they can take the

Zoos And The Conservation Of Animals
A family is enjoying a trip to their local zoo when they stop to look at the tigers. The child sprints over
to exhibit with excitement; he notices a red sign stuck the glass of the enclosure which reads,
Endangered. Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they let
them back into the wild to live free? Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the
unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding Never. It has become noticeably evident that zoos
are not a current resource for the protection of rare and endangered species. Animals should not be
kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no education
about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally.
Primarily, zoos fail at the conservation of animal species. Zoos claim that certain species would
become extinct if places like zoos did not exist, but they ultimately fail at the conservation of animal
species. Animals who are endangered will likely never be released back into natural habitats ( Zoos:
Pitiful Prisons par. 9). The Author of Captive Animal Protection Society states, Many zoos have no
contact of any kind with any reintroduction program, meaning that once the animals are introduced to
zoos, they are likely to remain there. One U.S. study found no compelling evidence for zoos and

Decision Options and Analysis
Option 1: The new head should report to Tim Kelly, president and CEO of Global Media Group. This
will give him tight control over different media units like the NGM, the book publishing, television
etc. and help in building brand value by providing a meaningful and engaging experience to customers
which is aligned to the latest mission i.e. to inspire people to care about the planet . The downside of
this option is he will have little exposure with researchers, writers and explorers. Also the allocation of
funds to expensive mission programs will still remain a problem as it requires close coordination with

Option 2: The new head reports to Linda Berkley, the head of Enterprise Group. Reporting to Linda

founder Bruce MacNaughton expanded his company from one manufacturing and retail outlet in
1989, following a second retail outlet in 1991. The company also diversified and opened two
restaurants in 1989 and 1990 respectively. It is anticipated that P.E.I.P.C. will continue to grow, with
projected sales for the year ending January 1992, to reach one million dollars.

Value A resource is valuable if it enables P.E.I.P.C to exploit opportunities to establish competitive
advantage or negate threats. Japanese tourist comprises a large number of visitors to Prince Edward
Island and Prince Edward Island Preserve, Co. outlets. The popularity of P.E.I and P.E.I.P.C s products
are well known to Japan. Essentially, the high level of spending by the Japanese, their fascination with
P.E.I., traditions of gift giving and the amount of disposal income available to them, indicates that
opportunities in Japan might be successful.
Rarity P.E.I.P.C can enjoy temporary competitive advantage, so long as the content of ingredients used
to make its specialty preserves remain rare and scarce relative to it competitors.
Inimitability/Non substitutability Other firms in P.E.I. has begun to retail specialty preserves in hopes
to profit from P.E.I.P.C. s success. Competitors might be able to imitate or substitute the value and

implementation of its objectives, P.E.I.P.C. can exploit their brand and products domestically and
manufacture their products globally with the resources available.

Impact of Cultural and Social Factors on Health
Health is a universal human aspiration and a basic human need. The development of society, rich or
poor, can be judged by the quality of its population s health, how fairly health is distributed across the
social spectrum, and the degree of protection provided from disadvantage due to ill health. Health
equity is central to this premise. Strengthening health equity globally and within countries means
going beyond contemporary concentration on the immediate causes of disease to the causes of the
causes the fundamental structures of social hierarchy and the socially determined conditions these

In an effort to cope with the disease, people may decrease food intake, sell assets, borrow, withdraw
children from school, leave their families or delay seeking care. There may be direct impact in the
form of income loss, stigmatization and homelessness. Poor housing, overcrowding, malnutrition and
risky behaviour also play important roles. Tuberculosis is the single leading cause of death among
women of reproductive age.
One of the leading causes of malnutrition and ill health in South Asia is food poverty . Over 350
million in China and India alone do not have access to basic nutrition requirements.13 Malnutrition
increases the risk of infection and infectious diseases, and is one of the biggest contributors to child
mortaility, according to WHO.
Prostitution and Sex Tourism:
HIV/AIDS is deeply rooted in social structures and institutions, making it a particularly important
disease for studying the social aspects of health.
Across South Asia, prostitution exists in different forms, including red light areas and brothel based
prostitution. The region is home to a huge number of red light areas in big cities and medium towns, in
transit business points on routes of business, as well as close to major industrial centres, and along
highways and the borders, where there is military or paramilitary presence. Some of the largest red

Unsolved Case of Jon Benet Ramsey´s Murder Essay
WHO KILLED JON BENET RAMSEY?
The brutal murder of 6 year old JonBenet Ramsey on Christmas night in 1996 shocked America to its
core. Just as the Lindbergh baby kidnapping and murder seven decades earlier had seared the nation s
consciousness, this murder of a beautiful and talented child in a wealthy Boulder, Colorado home
renewed every parent s worst nightmare. It has been nearly three years since this violent crime
occurred and no one has been brought to justice.
At 6:48 p.m., Dec. 23, 1996, a 911 call was placed from the Ramsey home to the Boulder Police
Department. The call was terminated before a police dispatcher could speak to the caller. Six minutes

A cursory search of the house was made, including the basement. One small storeroom in the
basement was skipped when John Ramsey reportedly said it had been painted shut.
The police left a few hours later to obtain a warrant to search the house for evidence of a break in.
When they returned, they were surprised to find what appeared to be a young child lying under the
Christmas tree. It was JonBenet. She appeared to be dead, and appeared to have been dead for a period
of time.
John Ramsey told Detective Arndt that he had found JonBenet in the wine cellar in the basement,
underneath a blanket, with a piece of tape covering her mouth. John Ramsey had removed the tape
from her mouth before he carried JonBenet upstairs to the first floor. There appeared to be a piece of
cord loosely tied around JonBenet s right wrist. There were bloodstains in the crotch of her panties,
but not on her skin. In addition, there were dark fibers on her skin, in the vaginal area, that caused
police to believe her body had been wiped down with a cloth. Apparently, during the police s absence
John Ramsey and a family friend searched the house themselves.
Fingers of suspicion were pointed quickly in the direction of John Ramsey. The foregoing search
warrant affidavit was filed the same day JonBenet s body was found, and the resulting search warrant
was the instrument by which her body was removed from the house (normally a body would be
removed with consent). In addition to

The Effects Of Neutral And Non Neutral Toys On Children
The Effects of Neutral and Non Neutral Toys on Children
Our nation has improved rapidly in the aspect of a mutual goal for gender equality. Ever since World
War 1, women have had many more responsibilities and rights to heed to. Although this is a
significant feat, America lacks to disregard the source of the very dilemma. At exceedingly young
ages, new generations are being taught by their parents and peers, strict gender roles and expectations
through the most seemingly innocent source: their toys. Cnn.com relate on the subject, When children
see and hear gender labeling from their parents, peers, siblings, grandparents, and even the toy aisles

Effortlessly associated with the varying genders, one often pictures a pink tiara for girls and likewise a
blue cape for boys. The Guardian.com quotes, the connection of blue with boys and pink with girls is
relatively recent and goes on to recite a Sears Catalougue, from 1965 to 1985, pink was so strongly
associated with femininity that it was vehemently rejected by feminist parents for their daughters
clothing. The well known divide between the two antagonistic worlds of girl and boy are steadily
sharpening into an almost unyielding force that will be impossible to reverse. Children will continue
to grow up with the understanding that they mustn t breach the barrier or they will be persecuted for it.
In adulthood, the fight for equal treatment is still a large issue and the continuing increase and support
for it in young years only amplifies the problem. Hand in hand with the color discrimination, the
constant fight between masculinity and femininity is ever present. These labels are often devised by
the impressions that color often displays, dark colors are automatically associated with the male
gender while a more bright and lighter colors scheme is original for females. Naturally, these color
stereotypes are parallel to the various traits displayed by men and women. Men are commonly
identified for being more active and aggressive in gameplay, while women are classified by nurturing
and appearance focused activities. What is even worse

The Political Importance of Zheng He’s Voyages Essay
Accompanied by 27,000 men on 62 large and 255 small ships, the Chinese eunuch Zheng He, led 7
naval expeditions to Southeast Asia, Middle East and east coast of Africa in the span of 28 years
during the Ming Dynasty. The scale of Zheng He s fleet was unprecedented in world history. The large
treasure ships used during the expeditions were purported to be 440 feet long and 180 feet wide
(Dreyer, p. 102). Throughout his travels, Zheng He brought Chinese tea, porcelain and silk products to
foreign countries and also brought back exotic goods to the Ming court such as spices, plants and
leather. Although his voyages fostered commercial trades and cultural exchange between China and
foreign countries, the goal of his expeditions stemmed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, the original and main purpose of Zheng He s expeditions to foreign countries was political
and diplomatic. Emperor Yongle intended to awe the rulers of Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean
into sending tribute to China (Dreyer, p. 27). Zheng He and his fleets needed to establish Chinese
presence and influences in those countries in order to enforce the tributary system. Although China
had no interest in imperial expansion through oceanic exploration like the Europeans did, navy power
was traditionally associated with the strength of a nation. Therefore, the gigantic treasure ships, the
significant scale of Zheng He s crew as well as the Chinese goods he brought to the foreign countries
all served the political needs to display wealth and power of the Middle Kingdom. In order to
understand the political motives behind Zheng He s expedition, it is important to look into the
historical background of Emperor Yongle s reign. Yongle did not inherit the throne from his father
Emperor Hongwu. Soon after his father s death, Yongle, the Prince of Yan at that time, initiated a
military rebellion and overthrew his nephew Emperor Jianwen. Because he usurped the throne,
Emperor Yongle had a huge urge to suppress rumors and legitimate his rulership during his early years
of reign. During the rebellion, Emperor Jianwen disappeared and he was rumored to survive the palace
fire and flee overseas. Historians argued that one of the original goals of Zheng He s

Kerbstone In Pompeii
In the summer of 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvius erupted, earning its infamy by destroying Pompeii and
many surrounding Roman towns in southern Italy. This volcanic disaster, considered one of the worst
in history, buried the ancient Roman city of Pompeii under a carpet of volcanic ash. When
archeologists and explorers rediscovered the site, they found that under the ruins, dust, and debris,
Pompeii was fairly intact. The remains of the buildings, artifacts, and skeletons led researchers to
piece together what daily life would have been like prior to the eruption. Author Robert Harris and
director Paul Anderson both attempt to recreate this catastrophic event through their novel and movie,
respectively, both given the title Pompeii. Harris and Anderson ... Show more content on

To ensure the correct layout, a helicopter was flown over the ruins to capture aerial views to use in the

discusses the purpose of kerbstones and stepping stones in his article The Circulation of Traffic in

Tidal Power In The Bay of Fundy Essay example
Environment Report: Tidal Power In The Bay of Fundy
INTRODUCTION
The Bay of Fundy, which is found off the shores of Nova Scotia, has the highest tides in the world .
Extraordinary tides occur when the tidal wave length is two to four times the length of the Bay. By
virtue of blind luck or physics, the tide is amplified into a standing wave, like water sloshing in a
bathtub. For a breaking wave to form, the surging tide must meet an obstacle. When the ocean meets
the river going in the opposite direction, the sea hesitates, piles up behind the front line, and advances
anew in a tidal bore.
Usually the ingredients occur during a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sun and the moon are the only important celestial bodies in producing Terrestrial tides. While the
moon is much smaller than the sun, it is nevertheless more important for tidal processes, because of its
proximity to the earth. There is a small imbalance between the centrifugal force and the gravitational
attraction of the moon on the water column that gives rise to horizontal forces, causing water motion
that causes two bulges in the sea surface. One immediately under the earth, and the other on the other
side of the earth. These bulges tend to rotate around the globe along with the moon resetting in semi
diurnal tides with a period of half a lunar day (12.4 diurnal hours) even though the earth s rotation is a
diurnal period of 24 hours.
PROLOGUE
The Bay of Fundy is an area of about 1.6(100000 Km2). The Bay of Fundy is a part of the Continental
Shelf off eastern Canada and New England. It also serves as an extension that divides New Brunswick
from Western Nova Scotia. At the Bay of Fundy s tidal river at the Southwestern tip of Nova Scotia,
sea water overflows the other riverbank in spring to deposit loads of North Atlantic Salt twice daily. In
the tidal river, fresh water and salt water are mixed. Fundy of
Bay is famous for its tides which is the best and highest in the whole world.

Definition Of Self Regulation Assignment
Self regulation Assignment Manjunath Bhat McMaster University Under the principle of universality,
the standardization of nursing care across the country is important to maintain inter professional
equality and compatibility. This can be achieved by regulating nursing practice through inter
professional collaboration, communication, professional conduct, accountability and mutual respect
(Benton, González Jurado Beneit Montesinos, 2013). Self regulation assignment is a tool developed
by College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) to promote safe, competent and ethical nursing care in
Ontario. It will assist nurses with professional practice and help them understand the expectation of
entry level practice. It will also ensure that nurses are able to demonstrate the competencies through
Quality Assurance (QA) program (Colleges of Nurses of Ontario, 2014a). The College regulates the
nursing practice through the quality assurance program which has two parts: self assessment and
practice assessment. The purpose of self assessment is to identify learning needs and develop a
learning plan using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reliable and Time bound) to
meet those learning needs. Through the practice assessment, CNO regulates the nursing practice by
selecting few nurses to participate in the assessment every year.

Abstract
The removal of phenol from aqueous solution was evaluated by batch method using two ion exchange
resins, Duolite A 171 (DLE 171) (a strong anion exchange resin) and Duolite A 368 plus (DLE 368) (a
weak anion exchange resin) and a nonfunctionalized Duolite S 861 (DLE 861) resin. The maximum
removal capacity was achieved at pH 11. The removal of phenol was found to be in the following
order DLE 171 DLE 368 DLE 861. The mechanism involved in the process was found to be both
adsorption and ion exchange. The resin was characterized using FTIR and SEM with EDAX analysis.
The equilibrium data were fitted to Freundlich isotherm. The kinetics of the sorption was found to
follow pseudo second order and intraparticle diffusion models. The values of thermodynamic
parameters indicate the nature of sorption is spontaneous and exothermic.
Keywords: Removal of Phenol; Polymeric Resins; Duolite A 171; Duolite A 368; Duolite S 171.

  • 3. The Roman And Roman Rome The Roman Catacombs Rome today is a bustling and diverse city teeming with history and culture that dates back to thousands of years. This rich cultural intertwine is evident with its seeming myriad of historical monuments, relics, and construction that allude to various ancient cultures. Rome s ground level environment is truly an architectural, cultural, and spiritual hearth for things of the past; however, this area is truly only the tip of the iceberg . Underneath Rome s floors lies a seemingly unending expanse of tunnels and chambers that makeup The Roman Catacombs. Inside the cavernous pathways of Rome s catacombs is a plethora of religious and cultural history that provides historians today with an unfathomable source of early Roman and Christian history. Regardless of discrepancies over its use and origins, the Roman catacombs are indispensable for providing insight on the culture, beliefs, and social location of early Christians. Due to the Roman Catacomb s ancient origins, there are several discrepancies concerning aspects of the catacombs origin and use. However, there are several elements of this architectural wonder that are generally accepted among scientists and archaeologists today. The Roman Catacombs are generally accepted to have begun construction in the early third century, and stopped use around the fifth century ( 339 Nature. com). • 5. Key Competency For Achieving High Performance Enabling others in any organization is such a viable act. Leaders are aware that things cannot be done alone so including their employees and team members is what has to happen. Successful managers take a great deal of team to ensure that they have a great, trustworthy team to back up the organization. They work together to create goals and they establish relationships along the way showing their team members that they care for their well being. Collaboration is such a crucial competency for achieving high performance in an organization (Kouzes Posner, 2012). A leader is not able to start a brand new team with working together. There are situations that could arise where a team member loses trust or a leader loses trust in a team member. While mistakes do happen, it s up to the leader and their team to establish a truthful relationship so that if a situation arises, it could be handled. Opening up to either a leader or a team member can be a very difficult task. If an individual is one where they have had a bad experience, it could be very difficult for one to accomplish this. Leaders should always go first in opening up because it allows for a high level of performance amongst teams and it also creates a trusting environment for employees (Kouzes Posner, 2012). Bankers sometimes have a bad reputation because they are not able to be trusted. If they chose to not be trusted then others with not trust them. It s very simply stated and very easy for them change if they wanted to. The face of banking could have a different reputation but it s the leaders and management who ruin it for everyone else. Being sensitive to what other team members are going through creates a great relationship that allows others to keep coming back for more. Employees should be able to turn to their manager and communicate with them if they are having a rough day in the office or in their personal life. They recommend validation, active listening, and being assertive. The types of strategies that they give are very situational and seem to only work in certain areas. Mckay gives general advice for everyone, which is the end doesn t always work. When using McKay et al (2009) advice on active listening, it has unfortunately backfired on me when working with co workers in a meeting. • 7. Composed Upon Westminster Bridge By William Wordsworth And... The two poems Composed upon Westminster Bridge by William Wordsworth and London by William Blake s both show sharp contrasting views about the city of London. Wordsworth sees the beauty in London whilst Blake only sees the ugliness. It is through these different perspectives of London that both poets present their ideas of nature, darkness and suffering. In London , Blake portrays a gloomy perspective of London, whereas in Composed upon Westminster Bridge Wordsworth s tone is bright and buoyant leading the readers to paint an optimistic picture of London. Blake chooses to describe London s midnight streets in order to reinforce the theme of London s darkness and represents a city full of misery whilst Wordsworth, describes The ... The fact that Marriage hearse is in a neat rhyming structure makes the words drum into the readers head more making it easier to remember and to paint a mental picture in the readers mind. Both Blake and Wordsworth use similar literary devices of first person, tone and imagery to describe their thoughts about London, however these techniques have a different effect in each poem. Blake uses dark imagery to suggest poverty, bloodshed, disease and death in order to convince the reader of the melancholy and morbidity of the city whilst Wordsworth uses imagery to portray a charming and entrancing London, full of splendour, tranquillity and serenity. Wordsworth also uses imagery to provide the reader with the idea that London is a quiet and peaceful city. Wordsworth uses simile to describe the city s beauty, this is evident in the line This city now doth, like a garment, wear the beauty of the morning; silent, bare . His use of simile in this line suggests that the city is clothed in beauty however it is a beauty that is removed when people wake as suggested by the use of the word garment . Blake also uses first person in London to increase the immediacy of his tone and to narrate the things he observes as he walks through the streets of London. Digital Technology Into The Learning Process Essay Academia has been slow to incorporate digital technology into the learning process, and English courses seem to lag behind most other subject areas. Even when trying, College professors are challenged because post secondary students separate into different stratifications... according to their previous academic, social, and professional experiences with computers experiences that, in turn, are often dependent on age, class, race, and gender (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). These stratifications create Rainie s definition of the digital divide: the gap between those who access and use computers and the internet and those who do not (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). Many students can access the internet or computers, but there is an additional expectations in collegiate education. Writing centers regularly work with students who cannot confidently or successfully use technology for academic purposes, which becomes a primary barrier to their academic success. Writing centers need to actively attempt to reduce this divide through instruction, application, and adaptation to help struggling students. How strong is the brand story? What are the core brand associations and meaning narratives associated with the brand? The brand story was considered very strong. It is a high end brand that accounts such as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, etc. appreciated because it was the best performing brand. It could have been too strong, before the repositioning, because it shifted certain segments away. People associated the brand as for older people, well established in their careers as well as a mom/grandmother brand. It had a very strong brand loyalty associated with it. As the company grew older so did its customers. Some people did not want to be associated with that, and did not buy the brand; therefore shifting younger segments away. How healthy is the brand at the time of the case? At the time of the case the brand was healthy but it was at a vulnerable point. There had been economic downfall, so the industry as a whole was suffering but Eileen Fisher was stronger than its competitors. Economic factors forced customers to go to discount brands and shy away from department stores, therefore not only was Eileen Fisher losing customers its competitors were as well. Compared ... Streetcar Suburbs: The Process of Growth in Boston, 1870 1900 By Sam B Warner, Jr. Harvard University Press and The M.I.T. Many of these working class neighborhoods were crowded and unsanitary, with inadequate public services. Many workers lived in houses once occupied by middle and upper class residents, now divided and subdivided to accommodate more people than the original builders had intended. Others squeezed into tenements, which were specially constructed to house as many families as possible. Small apartments were dark and stuffy and often had windowless rooms. • 11. The s Mini Research Paper Essay Santa Iglesia Advanced English 1, Per. 7 14 November 2016 OMS Mini Research Paper The word man has a very simple definition: an adult male ( The Definition ). However, there are many symbols and meanings being it. A Native American picture known as Man in a Maze, originally called I itoi, depicts a man standing at the entrance of a maze. At the center is the man s dreams where God greets him and passes him into the next world. The center is not easy to reach, for there are many twists and turns in the maze itself. The maze symbolizes life and the difficulties man has to go through to reach the end and move on. In this instance man is naive, but represents strength, and must go through the challenges faced through existence in order to find the way to the finish ( The Symbol ). Another simple, yet very complex word beyond its basic definition, is old . The book definition of old is to have existed for a long time ( I Found ). The word old is associated with wisdom because a lot of experience is thought to be gained during long periods of time. When combining the two words, old and man, a new and very intricate symbol is made. Old man symbolizes wisdom of humanity and the power of great knowledge. The phrase old man is also associated with high status and special powers because with great wisdom comes significant respect from less experienced individuals (Cirlot). • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Being Against Open Marriage Reasons why everyone should be against open marriage is because you married the person that you wanted to love and spend the rest of your life with. You are breaking the marital vows. When marrying someone you are making a commitment to be loyal. According to J.B. Chachila, What we commit to be not just to take on that person, to uphold that person s dream, and to meet that person s needs. We actually commit to becoming one that person. When people have a open marriage is when one companion breaks the pre established rules of marriage. Open marriages show that your love and commitment should be questioned because why marry someone when all they want to do is go out and do things with other people while married. If two people are perfect for each other than they shouldn t be in an open marriage because they are together because they are supposedly perfect for each other. If you aren t happy with the person you are currently married to then what was the point of marrying them in the first place. Before you are officially you say special marital vows to each other to promise that you be there for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. According to Romans 7:3, Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. • 14. Negative Effects Of Evictions Eviction s Effects Those who have experienced evictions are forced into multiple logistical housing situations. Due to the stigma associated with a court ordered eviction, landlords would often engage in rent screenings to ensure that potential renters not only have a clean criminal record but also an eviction free record (Desmond, 2016). As Desmond discusses (2016), the landlord s double barrier screening is shielding their neighborhood from criminality and poverty. Correspondingly, some landlords knowingly do not engage in these screening practices as a business model to potentially profit off of the poor (Desmond, 2012a). Unfortunately, due to housing availability, Tester s (2008) work described female renters precarious situation as women failed to report the sexual harassment due to fear of retaliation and housing needs. This potential financial burden can be magnified on account that many lose their possessions as a result of the eviction and risk having to re obtain clothing, appliances, and other items. As Desmond (2016) explains, evicted families working on securing habitable housing would be forced into paying for storage that ran around $100 dollars per month (p.132). When given the opportunity to establish a colony Winthrop eagerly embraced the opportunity, partly because of King Charles I anti puritan policies. Since the puritans trusted his word and followed him they knew that everything had to be done by bible reading and writing because that s how they can ingest God s word; along with this they made sure to keep a spiritual journal. By 1647 many of colonies such as Charlestown, Dorchester, Salem, etc. followed his lead by implying many of the households to have a reading and writing instructor which made the view of John Winthrop even better. For others, Winthrop was a villain whose spiritual impulses quickly devolved from doting father to tyrannical Puritan. In his 12 terms as Governor, Winthrop clashed with many of his following colonists because of his strict theocratic beliefs. Most famously, these tyrannical impulses were demonstrated in Winthrop s conflict with Anne Hutchinson in 1636. Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding Never. Definition Of Self Regulation Assignment Self regulation Assignment Manjunath Bhat McMaster University Under the principle of universality, the standardization of nursing care across the country is important to maintain inter professional equality and compatibility. This can be achieved by regulating nursing practice through inter professional collaboration, communication, professional conduct, accountability and mutual respect (Benton, González Jurado Beneit Montesinos, 2013). Self regulation assignment is a tool developed by College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) to promote safe, competent and ethical nursing care in Ontario. It will assist nurses with professional practice and help them understand the expectation of entry level practice. It will also ensure that nurses are able to demonstrate the competencies through Quality Assurance (QA) program (Colleges of Nurses of Ontario, 2014a). The College regulates the nursing practice through the quality assurance program which has two parts: self assessment and practice assessment. The purpose of self assessment is to identify learning needs and develop a learning plan using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reliable and Time bound) to meet those learning needs. • 33. Removal Of Phenol From Aqueous Solution Using Duolite A 171 Removal of phenol from aqueous solution using Duolite A 171 Duolite A 368 plus and Duolite S 861 polymeric resins A.K.R. VasanthaKamesh, M. Pandeeswaran*, G.N. kousalya and S. Kannan PG and Research Department of Chemistry, GTN Arts College, Dindigul, Tamilnadu, India Abstract The removal of phenol from aqueous solution was evaluated by batch method using two ion exchange resins, Duolite A 171 (DLE 171) (a strong anion exchange resin) and Duolite A 368 plus (DLE 368) (a weak anion exchange resin) and a nonfunctionalized Duolite S 861 (DLE 861) resin. The maximum removal capacity was achieved at pH 11. The removal of phenol was found to be in the following order DLE 171 DLE 368 DLE 861. The mechanism involved in the process was found to be both adsorption and ion exchange. The resin was characterized using FTIR and SEM with EDAX analysis. The equilibrium data were fitted to Freundlich isotherm. The kinetics of the sorption was found to follow pseudo second order and intraparticle diffusion models. The values of thermodynamic parameters indicate the nature of sorption is spontaneous and exothermic.
