Teeth Synthesis Essay
Teeth are the hardest substances in the human body and help us in everyday life. They aid in our
speech, eating and also give shape in our face and mouth (Taylor, 2014). Without teeth, we would
have to eat foods that didn t require chewing, and learn to speak without some of the common sounds
and letters in the alphabet. However, our everyday activities such as eating and drinking can damage
our teeth. Foods and drinks with a high acid or sugar content can lead to damage and a slow break
down the protective enamel surrounding your teeth. (Serio, 2010). There are several different parts to
a tooth. The enamel, which is the outer covering, protects the tooth. It is the hardest substance in the
human body, and is non porous. It is made mostly of calcium phosphate and is irreplaceable due to
being made of a non living mineral. (WebMD, 2013)Underneath the enamel is the dentin. Unlike the
enamel, dentin is made of living cells. Dentin is a tough layer of ... Show more content on

Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day can help prevent any number of diseases. One of the
most common problems are oral cavities. A cavity is a hole on a tooth which is decaying. (Foundation,
2014) This happens when bacteria or plaque stick to teeth. If teeth aren t cleaned by brushing and
flossing daily, the sugars from foods and drinks feed the bacteria who in return create acid which rots
away the enamel on the tooth. If a cavity isn t taken care of quickly, the infection can spread past the
enamel and into the dentin and delicate pulp. This can be very painful and can result in damage to the
nerves, or even loss of a tooth. In serious cases, the infection can spread into the jaw bone and gums
which may require surgery. Most cavities occur in between two teeth, where it s more difficult for the
bristles of a tooth brush to reach (Serio, 2010). This is why it is important to floss as well as brush

Self Assessment Life History Report
Self assessment Life History Report
The identity of a person can be influenced by many factors depending on the environment in which
they live (Kuada Chachah, 1999). I am a 23 year old Ghana national. I came to this country in 2002
when I was ten years old, and I am a Christian by religion. Many factors have influenced my current
identity and described my values and beliefs. Such factors include gender, sexual orientation, age,
family, race and ethnic identification, religious identity, and socio economic status among many
others. These factors have determined the person I am today, and it makes them significant in my life
Ghana is a democratic state in which all people are expected to obey the Constitution. That is why I
believe in the rule of law and that all people within the country have their rights and freedoms. Ghana
has over 100 ethnic groups, which peacefully coexist. These groups vary in population with Akan
being the largest which I am a member. In this country, the different ethnic groups are known to have
diverse talents such as the craftworks of the Akan tribe in making products such as fertility dolls and
hand carved stools.
Family is the basic unit of the society in Ghana, and it provides the primary source of people s
identity. It creates a sense of responsibility and loyalty among people. In Ghana, different ethnic
groups have different family values. For instance, the Akan believe that women in families possess
higher status, and they determine the

Hotel Rwanda vs. Erin Brockovich
Two Different Ways to Murder Thousands of People Hotel Rwanda and Erin Brockovich are two
provocative films that take a look at separate deviant acts but still present similar dangerous social
problems. The conflicts that are portrayed are different in the means of operation but both share a
similar end with the endangerment of thousands of people. We will examine how these deviant
decisions affect both their societies and the reasons behind these atrocious acts. Hotel Rwanda is a
very graphic film filled with a tremendous amount of deviance and social problems. The Hutu tribe
feels that the Tutsi should not be in power and the Hutu extremists try to overtake their position. The
social problem is they want control over their part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Hirschi has been quoted concluding that a child s relationship with his or her parent is the most
important factor in determining involvement in delinquent activities. Those who had weak bonds with
their parents were most likely to commit delinquent acts (Tepperman 2010). Hirschi s theory sheds
light on the fact that children still at crucial developmental stages of their lives are very easily
influenced by their parents and the amount of involvement one s parents has in their own lives. In this
film many of the children witnessed their own fathers participating in these barbaric acts and were
encouraged to stand up and fight for their family. A problematic social upbringing where children are
forced to interact with parents taking on violent roles has a huge impact on their own behaviors. In this
story the children gain a sense of attachment and shared identity, which is facilitated by violent family
values and rituals, such as, murder and violence. This is known as Authoritarian parenting where the
parents have a high level of control but are not very caring (forcing them to fight in a war, not
worrying if they get killed). The children seemingly become brainwashed by these notions and accept
it as their responsibility or as fate . Psychologist Jean Piaget showed in his research the self is a social
product... because the self is a social product, it changes

Tort Law Reform Research Paper
Is Tort Law Reform the Solution?
Because the practice of defensive medicine is driven primarily by the threat of legal liability,
researchers have proposed direct or indirect tort law reforms as the solution. With caps on non
economic damages and collateral source offsets , direct reforms seek to limit the cost of malpractice
litigation for providers (Kessler, 2011, p. 96). Indirect reforms seek to alleviate malpractice pressure
through other means, including contingency fee limitations, periodic payment requirements against
future damages, joint and several liability reforms, and provisions for patients compensation funds
(Kessler, 2011). The potential of such reforms to curtail defensive medicine is based on the
assumption that reduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Active bills in Florida, Georgia, Maine, and Tennessee during the 2016 legislative session provoked
fierce debates among various stakeholders. The two main arguments focus on the potential for costs to
rise uncontrollably under the PCS, and its feasibility to replace the current malpractice system (Forray,
Fleming, Wunder, 2014; Forray Wunder, 2017).
Because the PCS would not function within the legal system, its substitution for the malpractice
liability system may deprive patients and providers of their right to court system access. The PCS
proposed exclusivity therefore raises constitutionality issues (Forray, Fleming, Wunder, 2014). On the
other hand, as long as the malpractice liability system exists, injured patients will still find their way to
court, thus perpetuating provider incentives to practice

Describe The Differences Between Paul And Robinson s Life
The mill factories of the early 19th century are quite different from what we know and perceive to be
factory work today. One might be surprised initially that a girl would want to go to the mills given the
current perception of them, but in this time the mills were quite attractive initially for many women.
Mary Paul initially tried to find work as a domestic for a farming family but after that failed, she
moved to the mills in Lowell looking for work (Dublin 121). Most women in the early 19th century
didn t have opportunities to earn and income. Lowell was such a unique place at this time as it
provided women work for money and a chance to move of their own accord to somewhere new. At
Lowell, in addition to there being work, there was housing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Robinson worked when the mills were just opening and not many were around. The Erie Canal was
built in 1925, which greeting increased the speed of transportation from the Great Lakes to New York,
causing an influx of of people (Foner 329). Many new factories sprung up around it as there was easy
water access to the ports. Faster transportation from canals and railroads caused an increase in the area
factories could supply people with manufactured goods. Newly settled western areas became states
and opened up a market for more people needing goods (Foner 332 3).This created a second hub for
factories away from Boston that was competing to sell their goods. The area of where they sold their
products began to overlap, creating a need to produce faster and cheaper. The Embargo of 1807 that
helped spur the factories initially continued to contribute to the growth of new factories into the 1950 s
(Foner 340). Even within Lowell other factories began to pop up to account for increased demand in
manufactured goods, as mentioned by Mary Paul. The companies began to cut wages to compete
which was coupled with another change in the

The Glasgow Science Centre Tower Project Case Study Essay
Introduction
The Glasgow Science Centre project was conceived as a way of promoting Glasgow as a major high
tech center, as well as a means of revitalizing the River Clyde dock area of Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
The Science Centre consists of three main exhibits: the IMAX Theatre, the Science Mall, and the
Glasgow Tower. The stunning design of the Glasgow Science Centre Tower was envisioned as a one
of a kind structure capable of revolving 360° from the ground up and was expected to become a
famous landmark. The unique design of the Glasgow Tower was envisioned to feature a viewing cabin
on top of a reed slim tower 330 feet above the River Clyde. The distinctive design presented an array
of engineering, technical, and safety challenges to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result the schedule was described as loose , and when the funding was finally allocated there was
nothing published regarding the completion date and the public opening dates in these early stages of
the project.
Although the project team made an attempt to manage risk by performing risk analysis from early out,
there was no attempt of managing the risk from a strategic perspective. For example, normally towers
are built up to 6 or 7 times the width of the base, but this tower was designed to be 10 times taller.
This created a major technical challenge.

Due to the design complexity of the Glasgow tower, construction could not start until a variety of

Harmonielehre Analysis

The continued relevance of the Symphonic genera through Musical Synthesis In John Adams
Harmonielehre
In todays society a musician must grapple with many different artistic realities. The current musical
landscape includes many different styles from music in pop culture to music existing predominantly in
the academic field. In this vast sea of musical styles the compositional career of John Adams was
born. In this ever changing era of musical styles John Adams has created a style for himself titled Post
Minimalism. The Post Minimalistic music of John Adams was derived through many cultural and
musical influences of the 1900 s and early 2000 s, specifically as a reaction to Schoenberg s Viennese
school. John Adams orchestral work Harmonielehre shows a conscious reaction to Schoenberg s serial
music and a synthesis of many styles of music while including serial elements from the Viennese
school. This connection makes the work of Adams different from other minimalistic composers at the
same time ushering an era of New or Post Minimalism, creating an accessibility in both the symphonic
orchestra and minimalism repetoire that did not exist. As with many composers the experiences in
Adams past shaped much of his music, specifically his development of Post Minimalism style along
with his synthesis of several musical styles. John Adams was born and raised in New England and
partook in marching band and community orchestra in his early years. He then

Vivid Images In Jonathan Edwards
Jonathan Edwards uses many vivid images to make and reinforce his point to the members of his
congregation. Perhaps the most powerful image is the extended metaphor of God holding the sinner
over the pit of hell. ...there is nothing between you and Hell but the air; it is only power and mere
pleasure of God that holds you up. This image would have been even more powerful in Edwards time
than it is today, as Puritan worshippers were regularly exposed to the idea of a fiery hell. Edwards also
uses the idea of sin (wickedness) making a sinner as heavy as lead. He describes the sin weighing
down the sinner to the point that if God should let go, you would immediately sink and swiftly
descend and plunge into the bottomless gulf. Furthermore,

The Tampa Museum Of Art
For this project, I chose the Tampa Museum of Art. My daughter Annabelle, who is eleven,
accompanied me. She is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This paper
will describe our trip, the museum s activities, and what was on exhibit. After which, I will choose two
works of art and preform an analysis on them. I will employ the formal elements and the principles of
design to engage the first piece, The Great Journey . With my second choice A Group of Cubans who
left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea , I will discuss how applying an alternative contextual analysis
would help in understanding the meaning behind the painting more. The museum was celebrating
Family Day as well as Hispanic Heritage Month, so Annabelle and I were able to enjoy all the special
activities that were being held. She was able to partake in all the art making activities e.g. drawing and
painting different objects with different media. After Annabelle was finished, we watched the Sones de
Mexico, a group of Hispanic children from all around the bay area. The group of dancers performed
traditional dances from all over the different regions of Mexico. The dances were honestly astounding
and beautiful to watch. All the time and effort that those young children put in, just to learn the dances
is remarkable. Furthermore, the fact that they are working so diligently to keep their heritage alive and
thriving here in the US is inspiring. My daughter and I

Torres Strait Islander Children
have had more sophisticated and developed culture, society, and technology. Similarly, the white
Australians had ideas that the white are superior, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander should
be assimilated to the white culture. Because of such circumstances, the legislative removal of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their family and community has happened, and it
has been significant in Australian history. This essay will argue that Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander children s human rights have been protected by several human rights mechanisms, but still
not enough. Firstly, this essay will introduce several legislations, which slowed removal of the
children. Secondly, it will summarise impacts of the removal ... Show more content on

Such legislations which have been mentioned above ostensibly aimed to provide better protection and
cares for the Aboriginal children. In fact, children who were subjects of the removal were regarded as
neglected by their parents (Beresford Omaji 1998, p. 15), so Aboriginal families thought as an
acceptable living standards from white standards were often removed their children (Beresford Omaji
1998, p. 62). Thus, in one sense, those Acts seemingly protected the Aboriginal children by removing
them from their parents. However, applying removed children s evidences cited above to the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights (UNDRIP) document, the legislations seem having caused the human
rights violations of the Aboriginal children. For example, the discrimination from white adoption
mother because of skin colour (CS 82) can be violation on the article 2, the right to free from any kind
of discrimination (UNDRIP p. 4). Also, sexual abuse in the orphanage and foster homes (CE 528) can
be violation on the article 7, the right the rights to life, physical and mental integrity, liberty and
security of person (UNDRIP p. 5). Additionally, the removal, the placement, and the limitation of their
behaviour are originally violation on the collective right to live in freedom, peace and security and

The growth of drum and bugle corps in America
Classic drum and bugle corps are musical ensembles that descended from military bugle and drum
units returning from the first World War and subsequent wars. Traditionally, drum and bugle corps
served as signaling units as early as before the American Civil War, with these signaling units having
descended in some fashion from ancient drum and fife corps. However, a modern drum and bugle
corps are a musical marching ensemble consisting of brass and percussion instruments, synthesizers,
and a color guard. Drum corps perform in parades, festivals, and other civic functions, but primarily
make appearances in competitions. Drum and bugle corps have ... Show more content on

These thirteen pioneer corps were unhappy with the strict immutable rules and regulations of the
American Legion and the VFW (veterans of foreign wars) who were the primary sponsors for the
corps and shows at the time. The Thirteen DCI member corps found new sponsors, hosts, and
appeared in a hand full of competitions which helped to grow their popularity and build an audience.
In August of
1972, the first annual DCI world championship competition was held at Warhawks Stadium on the
campus of University of Wisconsin Whitewater with 39 corps from 15 states and one
Canadian province in competition. DCI has since constructed their headquarters in Indianapolis
Indiana, where the annual world championships have been held at Lucas Oil Stadium since 2009 and
is charted to be the host of the competition through 2028. From the thirteen founding drum and bugle
corps which consisted of around ninety or fewer members per corps , DCI has grown to its now forty
six member corps with a limit of 150 members per corps and an age range from
13 to 22 years old. The DCI organization has grown their audience from the small last minute
audience at the first championship competition to the over 400,000 fans that attend live events last
year during the summer DCI tour, not to mention the fact that the championship finals were
broadcasted on PBS starting in 1975 and by ESPN2 from 2006 to 2007. Despite the finals sadly no

Tourette Syndrome is a common neurological disorder that affects many Americans every year. It is
characterized by sudden motor tics that can be involuntary and repetitive. These involuntary motor tics
can have degrees of intensity ranging from simple to complex. Brief and repetitive movements such
as, eye blinking, facial grimacing, other eye movements characterize simple motor tics. Simple motor
tics usually involve a limited number of muscle groups and can include simple vocalizations such as,
repetitive sniffing, throat clearing, or grunting sounds. Unlike simple motor tics, complex motor tics
are distinct and coordinated patterns of movement. Facial grimacing, sniffing or touching objects,

Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep )
Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had been
little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian Guinea
Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating guinea
worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full burden and
distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate prevention
measures for the disease.6
The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on the
burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the disease in
Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is that a UNICEF
sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea worm in Nigeria
and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following this document, a
Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for eradication in the
country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea worm into all modes
of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when former United States
President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of the country and the
Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida,

Benefits Of Companion Animals
Anatole France once said, Until one has loved an animal, a part of one s soul remains unawakened.
Everyone who has ever become fond of an animal knows how much one small aspect of your life can
impact so many things. I have a cat and I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today
without her. Unlike human connections, communication is more difficult due to the fact that animals
don t speak English; A simple glare or rub from an animal means a million times more to most than a
well constructed conversation between peers. Bonding with companion animals will benefit your
overall wellness. According to ASPCA, a companion animal is a domestic animal that can safely
interact with humans physically and emotionally (Definition of Companion). This means they have
been known to work with humans without being a threat. Wild animals and hybrid mixes are not
considered companion animals due to the fact that they could be dangerous (Species Specific).
Common household pets like guinea pigs, fish, some reptiles, cats, dogs, and other mammals of a
smaller size are examples of valid companion animals; Horses and other farm animals bred
specifically to be a companion animal are also valid (Species Specific). Loneliness is an aspect of life
everyone dreads feeling but cannot suppress. Lacking love or even just a friend can cause
unimaginable ache and heaviness. Humans are social creatures so when they do not get the necessary
interactions they feel empty in a sense. Companion

He suggests that people take their own risks and thinks that if athletes take steroids it s at their own
use. There are several reasons to ban performance enhancing drugs: respect for the rules of sports,
recognition that natural talents and their perfection are the point of sports, and the prospect of an arms
race in athletic performance.(Murray,6). President of Hastings center Thomas Murray thinks PED s
should be banned. He says athletes disrespect the sport while using drugs. He also says that taking
drugs destroys the description of sports and that is natural talent and perfection. He finally ends it by
saying drugs destroy the competitive nature of all sports and turns it into a game of

Mesopotamia Cuneiform History
3100 BC Mesopotamia and Cuneiform
The first recorded history of writing tablets comes from Sumer in 3100 BC. The chief of the temple
called the sangu (accountant) was responsible for noting animals and other goods to tally the temple s
wealth. The images of these goods were simply drawn on lumps of wet clay and lines drawn in
accordance with the number of each, allowed to dry in the sun and became a permanent tablet.
In Mesopotamia, clay tablets became the most common surface for documenting and writing. A piece
of reed, sculpted with a tapered or rectangular end became the first writing instrument. This initial
human script consisted of wedge shaped characters called cuneiform. This became the standardized
method of writing and is seen in Mesopotamia, Persia and Ugarit. Scribes were able to record
messages to be read with the understanding and concept of long lasting notations passing through time
and space. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The combined concepts and suggestions of objects are similarly depicted. The hieroglyph name came
from the Greeks in 500BC. Heiros (sacred) and glypho (engrave) in Greek was coined because the
Greeks used this type of writing only for holy texts. Prior to the introduction of Papyrus, hieroglyphic
inscriptions were used on the walls of tombs and temples, created by sculptors, painters and craftsmen
who modeled these intricate images in relief on plaster.
Scribes began writing on papyrus, a smooth surface created from tall, pithy sedge plants that grew
along the Nile river. The hieroglyphic inscriptions had utmost importance, becoming more detailed
and delicate as the act of writing with a fine reed pen evolved. The scribe was a professional and
regarded as such. Three hieratic versions of hieroglyphs developed, formal for religious documents,
less formal for official documents and literature and even less formal for private

The Gastrointestinal System Of Pregnant Women
Introduction
Physiological changes within a pregnant woman occur throughout the pregnancy and the
gastrointestinal system is affected by alterations of the pregnancy, these changes are considered
normal. The aim of this essay is to focus on the gastrointestinal system of pregnant women, discussing
physiological changes which occur under the influence of hormones, while focusing on nausea and
vomiting (NV) as a minor disorder. Finally, it will examine the role the midwife has on providing
effective education to the pregnant woman in her care employing a woman centred approach.
Discussion
The gastrointestinal system of a pregnant woman undergoes a transition in physiology and anatomy. It
is important to understand that these normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In early pregnancy nausea and vomiting (NV), begins around four weeks of gestation, and continues
to around twelve weeks of gestation. Lee and Saha (2011) estimate the number of women
experiencing these symptoms to between 70 and 80%. Though, some women continue to experience
NV until the sixteenth week. Few women continue to experience these symptoms into the third
trimester. According to Stables and Rankin (2010), the pathogenesis of NV symptoms are not clear,
but it believed that hormones progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), contribute to
these symptoms (Lee Saha, 2011). Lee and Saha (2011) suggest that NV is enhanced under the
stimulus of hCG. It peaks in the second trimester between twelve and fourteen weeks of pregnancy.
During pregnancy women experience an increased appetite and cravings, or distaste of other food
types (Niebyl, 2010). It is theorised that NV in pregnancy occurs due to evolutionary change, it s
advantageous to pregnant women by avoiding food which may contain microorganisms or unsafe
toxins. The relationship between hCG and NVP are linked into protection of the vital development and
formation of the embryo in the early to second trimester of pregnancy by avoiding potentially harmful
foods (Lee Saha, 2011).
A woman centred approach is an endeavour for pregnant women to take ownership in their care and
the midwife a guide in their

Do People Respond To Incentives
Do people respond to incentives? What is your opinion?
People respond to incentives (Mankiw). An incentive is something that encourages a person to do
something or work harder (Incentive). It says right in the definition that it is motivating. Since people
make decisions by comparing costs and benefits (Mankiw), when there is an incentive, or larger
benefit, they will make a different choice. When people are shopping at grocery stores and two brands
of cereal are the same price but one includes a prize inside, this prize acts as an incentive for the
customer to buy that brand of cereal. Any time a benefit is available, the chances of that option being
chosen increases. Why would restaurants like McDonalds and Burger King provide

Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic Summary
The airline restrictions harmed West Africa s already fragile government by hampering the flow of aid
and trade. The Analysis of the West African Ebola Virus Disease Epidemic shines a light on the need
for reform in the Global Health System by emphasizing the failures of the government officials and
organizations. Unity opens many opportunities for a stronger government as Friedman and Gostin
emphasized in their article. Friedman and Gostin argue that the government failed to unity by saying
states imposed travel restrictions and quarantines contrary to the demands of WHO and the United
Nations (UN), hindering the response of aid and travel, but critics would argue that every state has
their own security interest that are seen as safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unity between all agencies and governments will allow for everyone s voice to be heard. Group
compromise and discussion is possible when all systems are working together for a common goal;
such as, overcoming an epidemic. Forming a strong framework requires accountable leaders to work
constructively with other organizations as equal partners. When organizations unite, leaders are held
responsible for their global practices, motivating action rather than hesitation. Accountable leaders are
essential in a strong government because they take action and motivate change. When a government
has weak leaders, actions are postponed and hesitation causes delays in funding, education, and
volunteers. Civil groups, along with other non governmental organizations, need their opinions heard.
Uniting together all forces, not only creates a stronger, trusting bond between countries, but also
creates an unstoppable fighting force against epidemics. In the article, Gostin and Friedman
acknowledged the contributions a non governmental agency, Médecins Sans Frontiéres, made to help
control the raging epidemic. A representative of Médecins Sans Frontiéres said without accountable
leaders there is no one to take responsibility which is what he claims to be a major issue in the Ebola
crisis (1904). Other government agencies; such as, Human Resources and the United

problems that one might not think could relate to other issues. Depo Provera in some instances has
might increase cholesterol and other blood fats, so users should have these checked regularly
(Osathanondh, 1995b). Long term use can increase risk of osteoporosis due to a loss in bone density.
Although these problems will not affect most users, they should always get regular check ups. Of
course, make sure they are not pregnant before starting the injection. Finally, the most common risk
found is that people think the shot will protect from hepatitis, HIV, and other sexually transmitted
diseases. The only protection against those factors would be condoms or abstinence. Also, this form of
birth control should not be used if the potential user has abnormal bleeding yet to be diagnosed, severe

Self Definition
Self definition Throughout history black women have been stereotyped and put into many different
roles in society. Black women, it seems, have become the scapegoat for many issues and problems and
have been misrepresented usually by men, mostly by white men. Through the creation of the mammy,
the sapphire, the Jezebel, the strong black woman and more, black women have been misrepresented
and portrayed in negative ways in society. In a response to this labeling, black women have begun to
tell their own stories and speak out for themselves. Through their writings, black women writers have
been able to dispel the stereotypes of black women by showing the truth, the true story of the women,
told by the woman. Doing this, they have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m thinking bout telling Bovanne what a lovely dress Nisi got on instead I just haul the man on out
of there (Bambara 9). She decides to define herself. Toni Morrison uses situational irony in a
different manner, instead of using the women s thoughts she uses their actions. The expectations of the
reader are because of the upbringing and personal connection of Sula and Nel. The reader experiences
situational irony in upbringing through Nel and irony in the women s personal connection through
Sula. It may seem as if Nel will not become like her mother, leave the town, travel, become chaotic
and take chances. For days afterward she imagined other trips she would take Leaving Medallion
would be her goal (Morrison 29). Nel does none of this and settles into the life of the Bottom and
contrary to what the reader expects, she grows up to be almost exactly like her mother. Yet it is not
expected that Nel would do this and it is surprising when it happens. Morrison spends great detail
explaining the upbringing of both Nel and Sula to show that they are exact opposites, foils of each
other and the attraction that each has towards their different lives. Nel, grows up with a strict mother,
she is restricted by her mother and is never able to express herself. Her household is quiet and
reserved, in a sense, perfect and her mother is involved in the community and works hard to kill the
imagination and drive of her daughter. Sula grows up

A Trip To The Congo Analysis
As their trip in the Congo begins, Ruth May mentions: What they do is, they all stare at us (Kingsolver

having religion forced upon them, but also furthers the separation of the family that happens due to the
events in the Congo. The Reverend begins to really delve into the spirit of his mission by preaching to
anyone who will listen which is not very many. Nathan, however, makes a grave mistake consistently

Pros And Cons Of The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment
In todays society, the common consensus about human experimentation is that it is unethical, however,
people in the past believed it was necessary to advance scientific discoveries. The Tuskegee syphilis
study is a prime example of how scientists in the past disregarded the ethics of human experimentation
to enhance scientific research. The study was an experiment where four hundred to six hundred
uneducated African American men were tricked into being tested. Most of the patients were injected
with the disease and left without treatment to discover its effects, while the others were safe being
used as controls. This experiment lasted for Forty years and was probably the biggest example of
unethical human experimentation in America. Fortunatley, the contrivertial actions taken in the
experiment lead future generations to create the law of informed consent where the patient
understands what will happen during their treatment. The inspiration for researching this topic was
how in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks , by Rebecca Skloot, Henrietta was used for a scientific
study without her consent. In relation to Henrietta, the men in the syphilis study were not aware of
what was happening to them and were experimented on without their consent. Overall, the human
experimentation in the Tuskegee syphilis study was unethical in many ways. The first reason behind
why the Tuskegee syphilis study was unethical was because of the experiments racism towards
African Americans. In

The Sixties And The End Of Collapsing
In terms of the amount of political upheaval that took place, the 1960s is probably the most fascinating
decade post World War II to study historically. To understand how the country was almost at the brink
of collapsing, one must survey one of the prominent political actors during the decade: the student
movement. According to William H. Chafe in The Unfinished Journey, the student movement emerged
from the feeling that President John F. Kennedy s insistent call for the young to fulfill America s
unfulfilled promises was a mandate for action. Yet, the conclusions made about the student movement
in the 1960s are still contested today. David Steigerwald, author of The Sixties and the End to Modern
America scrutinizes the student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Chafe s use of the Port Huron Statement is more so a summary of the attitudes of the student
movement, Steigerwald offers a critique of the student movement s ambitions. Steigerwald does not
deny that the Port Huron Statement was bold, stating that its critiques of U.S. Cold War foreign policy
were both realistic and prescient and that the ideals presented in the statement were meant as an
antidote to the ills of bureaucratized society. Personal fulfillment was to be realized through civic
participation . However, Steigerwald argues that the deepest flaw of the student movement was that it
could encourage mere rebelliousness masquerading as radicalism, a phony radicalism that saw politics
as a vehicle for exhibitionism and self assertion rather than change . Steigerwald s critique questions
whether the student movement actually aimed to challenge the apparent status quo of the American
political landscape. Steigerwald s critique is in accordance with the larger historical critique of the
counterculture movement of the 1960s that the movement did not make the impact that it intended to
make. Chafe joins with Steigerwald on the critical

Inner Evil in Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay
Inner Evil Throughout the novel Lord Of The Flies, the boys on the island are continuously faced with
numerous fears. Subsequently there is nothing on the island which they fear more than the beast. The
beast is not a tangible object that can be killed or destroyed by conventional means, but an idea
symbolizing the primal savage instincts within all people. Its Golding s intention to illustrate the
innate evil inside man through his view of human nature, the actions of the Jack and his tribe, and the
relationship between the beast and the school boys. Golding wanted to reveal to the reader his point of
view and theory of human nature. He wanted to make it clear that each member of humankind has a

Their desire to please the beast leads them into golding s theory of inner evil, shown by the gruesome
slaughtering of the pigs and the Lord of the Flies itself, a gift to the supernatural creature. The Lord of
the Flies is a direct translation to Beelzebub, which is name given to the devil in the bible. From this
we can take Golding s perspective and motives not to express the relationship between the Pig s head
and the boys but human nature and evil. Soon the hunters lose sight of their school boy origins and
their compassion, seeking only to hunt pigs and increase the tribe members or kill anyone standing in
their way. This is a direct outcome from the beast who leads the boys into savagery and violence
further developing their own inner beast. The relationship between the beast and the school boys is
played out through the conversation between Simon and the Lord of the Flies. The Lord of the Flies or
pig head tries to intimidate and forewarn Simon calling him, just an ignorant, silly little boy (184) and
scoffs at Simon for thinking the beast is something you could hunt or kill! (184) Golding uses this
symbolic beast, the Lord of the Flies, to reveal the truth to Simon which is that they (184) the boys on
the island are the real beast. Before Simon faints the Lord of the Flies warms Simon that

  • 2. Teeth Synthesis Essay Teeth are the hardest substances in the human body and help us in everyday life. They aid in our speech, eating and also give shape in our face and mouth (Taylor, 2014). Without teeth, we would have to eat foods that didn t require chewing, and learn to speak without some of the common sounds and letters in the alphabet. However, our everyday activities such as eating and drinking can damage our teeth. Foods and drinks with a high acid or sugar content can lead to damage and a slow break down the protective enamel surrounding your teeth. (Serio, 2010). There are several different parts to a tooth. The enamel, which is the outer covering, protects the tooth. It is the hardest substance in the human body, and is non porous. It is made mostly of calcium phosphate and is irreplaceable due to being made of a non living mineral. (WebMD, 2013)Underneath the enamel is the dentin. Unlike the enamel, dentin is made of living cells. Dentin is a tough layer of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day can help prevent any number of diseases. One of the most common problems are oral cavities. A cavity is a hole on a tooth which is decaying. (Foundation, 2014) This happens when bacteria or plaque stick to teeth. If teeth aren t cleaned by brushing and flossing daily, the sugars from foods and drinks feed the bacteria who in return create acid which rots away the enamel on the tooth. If a cavity isn t taken care of quickly, the infection can spread past the enamel and into the dentin and delicate pulp. This can be very painful and can result in damage to the nerves, or even loss of a tooth. In serious cases, the infection can spread into the jaw bone and gums which may require surgery. Most cavities occur in between two teeth, where it s more difficult for the bristles of a tooth brush to reach (Serio, 2010). This is why it is important to floss as well as brush ... • 3. Self Assessment Life History Report Self assessment Life History Report The identity of a person can be influenced by many factors depending on the environment in which they live (Kuada Chachah, 1999). I am a 23 year old Ghana national. I came to this country in 2002 when I was ten years old, and I am a Christian by religion. Many factors have influenced my current identity and described my values and beliefs. Such factors include gender, sexual orientation, age, family, race and ethnic identification, religious identity, and socio economic status among many others. These factors have determined the person I am today, and it makes them significant in my life Ghana is a democratic state in which all people are expected to obey the Constitution. That is why I believe in the rule of law and that all people within the country have their rights and freedoms. Ghana has over 100 ethnic groups, which peacefully coexist. These groups vary in population with Akan being the largest which I am a member. In this country, the different ethnic groups are known to have diverse talents such as the craftworks of the Akan tribe in making products such as fertility dolls and hand carved stools. Family is the basic unit of the society in Ghana, and it provides the primary source of people s identity. It creates a sense of responsibility and loyalty among people. In Ghana, different ethnic groups have different family values. For instance, the Akan believe that women in families possess higher status, and they determine the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hotel Rwanda vs. Erin Brockovich Two Different Ways to Murder Thousands of People Hotel Rwanda and Erin Brockovich are two provocative films that take a look at separate deviant acts but still present similar dangerous social problems. The conflicts that are portrayed are different in the means of operation but both share a similar end with the endangerment of thousands of people. We will examine how these deviant decisions affect both their societies and the reasons behind these atrocious acts. Hotel Rwanda is a very graphic film filled with a tremendous amount of deviance and social problems. The Hutu tribe feels that the Tutsi should not be in power and the Hutu extremists try to overtake their position. The social problem is they want control over their part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Hirschi has been quoted concluding that a child s relationship with his or her parent is the most important factor in determining involvement in delinquent activities. Those who had weak bonds with their parents were most likely to commit delinquent acts (Tepperman 2010). Hirschi s theory sheds light on the fact that children still at crucial developmental stages of their lives are very easily influenced by their parents and the amount of involvement one s parents has in their own lives. In this film many of the children witnessed their own fathers participating in these barbaric acts and were encouraged to stand up and fight for their family. A problematic social upbringing where children are forced to interact with parents taking on violent roles has a huge impact on their own behaviors. In this story the children gain a sense of attachment and shared identity, which is facilitated by violent family values and rituals, such as, murder and violence. This is known as Authoritarian parenting where the parents have a high level of control but are not very caring (forcing them to fight in a war, not worrying if they get killed). The children seemingly become brainwashed by these notions and accept it as their responsibility or as fate . • 5. Tort Law Reform Research Paper Is Tort Law Reform the Solution? Because the practice of defensive medicine is driven primarily by the threat of legal liability, researchers have proposed direct or indirect tort law reforms as the solution. With caps on non economic damages and collateral source offsets , direct reforms seek to limit the cost of malpractice litigation for providers (Kessler, 2011, p. 96). Indirect reforms seek to alleviate malpractice pressure through other means, including contingency fee limitations, periodic payment requirements against future damages, joint and several liability reforms, and provisions for patients compensation funds (Kessler, 2011). The potential of such reforms to curtail defensive medicine is based on the assumption that reduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Active bills in Florida, Georgia, Maine, and Tennessee during the 2016 legislative session provoked fierce debates among various stakeholders. The two main arguments focus on the potential for costs to rise uncontrollably under the PCS, and its feasibility to replace the current malpractice system (Forray, Fleming, Wunder, 2014; Forray Wunder, 2017). Because the PCS would not function within the legal system, its substitution for the malpractice liability system may deprive patients and providers of their right to court system access. The PCS proposed exclusivity therefore raises constitutionality issues (Forray, Fleming, Wunder, 2014). On the other hand, as long as the malpractice liability system exists, injured patients will still find their way to court, thus perpetuating provider incentives to practice ... • 6. Describe The Differences Between Paul And Robinson s Life The mill factories of the early 19th century are quite different from what we know and perceive to be factory work today. One might be surprised initially that a girl would want to go to the mills given the current perception of them, but in this time the mills were quite attractive initially for many women. Mary Paul initially tried to find work as a domestic for a farming family but after that failed, she moved to the mills in Lowell looking for work (Dublin 121). Most women in the early 19th century didn t have opportunities to earn and income. Lowell was such a unique place at this time as it provided women work for money and a chance to move of their own accord to somewhere new. At Lowell, in addition to there being work, there was housing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robinson worked when the mills were just opening and not many were around. The Erie Canal was built in 1925, which greeting increased the speed of transportation from the Great Lakes to New York, causing an influx of of people (Foner 329). Many new factories sprung up around it as there was easy water access to the ports. Faster transportation from canals and railroads caused an increase in the area factories could supply people with manufactured goods. Newly settled western areas became states and opened up a market for more people needing goods (Foner 332 3).This created a second hub for factories away from Boston that was competing to sell their goods. The area of where they sold their products began to overlap, creating a need to produce faster and cheaper. The Embargo of 1807 that helped spur the factories initially continued to contribute to the growth of new factories into the 1950 s (Foner 340). Even within Lowell other factories began to pop up to account for increased demand in manufactured goods, as mentioned by Mary Paul. The companies began to cut wages to compete which was coupled with another change in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Glasgow Science Centre Tower Project Case Study Essay Introduction The Glasgow Science Centre project was conceived as a way of promoting Glasgow as a major high tech center, as well as a means of revitalizing the River Clyde dock area of Glasgow, Scotland, UK. The Science Centre consists of three main exhibits: the IMAX Theatre, the Science Mall, and the Glasgow Tower. The stunning design of the Glasgow Science Centre Tower was envisioned as a one of a kind structure capable of revolving 360° from the ground up and was expected to become a famous landmark. • 8. Harmonielehre Analysis Jonathan Milke The continued relevance of the Symphonic genera through Musical Synthesis In John Adams Harmonielehre In todays society a musician must grapple with many different artistic realities. The current musical landscape includes many different styles from music in pop culture to music existing predominantly in the academic field. In this vast sea of musical styles the compositional career of John Adams was born. In this ever changing era of musical styles John Adams has created a style for himself titled Post Minimalism. The Post Minimalistic music of John Adams was derived through many cultural and musical influences of the 1900 s and early 2000 s, specifically as a reaction to Schoenberg s Viennese school. John Adams orchestral work Harmonielehre shows a conscious reaction to Schoenberg s serial music and a synthesis of many styles of music while including serial elements from the Viennese school. This connection makes the work of Adams different from other minimalistic composers at the same time ushering an era of New or Post Minimalism, creating an accessibility in both the symphonic orchestra and minimalism repetoire that did not exist. As with many composers the experiences in Adams past shaped much of his music, specifically his development of Post Minimalism style along with his synthesis of several musical styles. John Adams was born and raised in New England and partook in marching band and community orchestra in his early years. He then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perhaps the most powerful image is the extended metaphor of God holding the sinner over the pit of hell. ...there is nothing between you and Hell but the air; it is only power and mere pleasure of God that holds you up. This image would have been even more powerful in Edwards time than it is today, as Puritan worshippers were regularly exposed to the idea of a fiery hell. Edwards also uses the idea of sin (wickedness) making a sinner as heavy as lead. He describes the sin weighing down the sinner to the point that if God should let go, you would immediately sink and swiftly descend and plunge into the bottomless gulf. Furthermore, ... She is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This paper will describe our trip, the museum s activities, and what was on exhibit. After which, I will choose two works of art and preform an analysis on them. I will employ the formal elements and the principles of design to engage the first piece, The Great Journey . With my second choice A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea , I will discuss how applying an alternative contextual analysis would help in understanding the meaning behind the painting more. The museum was celebrating Family Day as well as Hispanic Heritage Month, so Annabelle and I were able to enjoy all the special activities that were being held. She was able to partake in all the art making activities e.g. drawing and painting different objects with different media. After Annabelle was finished, we watched the Sones de Mexico, a group of Hispanic children from all around the bay area. The group of dancers performed traditional dances from all over the different regions of Mexico. The dances were honestly astounding and beautiful to watch. All the time and effort that those young children put in, just to learn the dances is remarkable. Similarly, the white Australians had ideas that the white are superior, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander should be assimilated to the white culture. Because of such circumstances, the legislative removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their family and community has happened, and it has been significant in Australian history. Firstly, this essay will introduce several legislations, which slowed removal of the children. Secondly, it will summarise impacts of the removal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such legislations which have been mentioned above ostensibly aimed to provide better protection and cares for the Aboriginal children. In fact, children who were subjects of the removal were regarded as neglected by their parents (Beresford Omaji 1998, p. 15), so Aboriginal families thought as an acceptable living standards from white standards were often removed their children (Beresford Omaji 1998, p. 62). Thus, in one sense, those Acts seemingly protected the Aboriginal children by removing them from their parents. However, applying removed children s evidences cited above to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDRIP) document, the legislations seem having caused the human rights violations of the Aboriginal children. For example, the discrimination from white adoption mother because of skin colour (CS 82) can be violation on the article 2, the right to free from any kind of discrimination (UNDRIP p. 4). Also, sexual abuse in the orphanage and foster homes (CE 528) can be violation on the article 7, the right the rights to life, physical and mental integrity, liberty and security of person (UNDRIP p. 5). The Growth Of Drum And Bugle Corps Taylor Turnpaugh Eric Simonson Musi 120 5 April 2017 The growth of drum and bugle corps in America Classic drum and bugle corps are musical ensembles that descended from military bugle and drum units returning from the first World War and subsequent wars. Traditionally, drum and bugle corps served as signaling units as early as before the American Civil War, with these signaling units having descended in some fashion from ancient drum and fife corps. In August of 1972, the first annual DCI world championship competition was held at Warhawks Stadium on the campus of University of Wisconsin Whitewater with 39 corps from 15 states and one Canadian province in competition. DCI has since constructed their headquarters in Indianapolis Indiana, where the annual world championships have been held at Lucas Oil Stadium since 2009 and is charted to be the host of the competition through 2028. The DCI organization has grown their audience from the small last minute audience at the first championship competition to the over 400,000 fans that attend live events last year during the summer DCI tour, not to mention the fact that the championship finals were broadcasted on PBS starting in 1975 and by ESPN2 from 2006 to 2007. Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep ) Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate prevention measures for the disease.6 The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when former United States President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of the country and the Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida, ... Everyone who has ever become fond of an animal knows how much one small aspect of your life can impact so many things. I have a cat and I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today without her. Unlike human connections, communication is more difficult due to the fact that animals don t speak English; A simple glare or rub from an animal means a million times more to most than a well constructed conversation between peers. Bonding with companion animals will benefit your overall wellness. According to ASPCA, a companion animal is a domestic animal that can safely interact with humans physically and emotionally (Definition of Companion). This means they have been known to work with humans without being a threat. Wild animals and hybrid mixes are not considered companion animals due to the fact that they could be dangerous (Species Specific). Common household pets like guinea pigs, fish, some reptiles, cats, dogs, and other mammals of a smaller size are examples of valid companion animals; Horses and other farm animals bred specifically to be a companion animal are also valid (Species Specific). The chief of the temple called the sangu (accountant) was responsible for noting animals and other goods to tally the temple s wealth. The images of these goods were simply drawn on lumps of wet clay and lines drawn in accordance with the number of each, allowed to dry in the sun and became a permanent tablet. In Mesopotamia, clay tablets became the most common surface for documenting and writing. A piece of reed, sculpted with a tapered or rectangular end became the first writing instrument. Few women continue to experience these symptoms into the third trimester. According to Stables and Rankin (2010), the pathogenesis of NV symptoms are not clear, but it believed that hormones progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), contribute to these symptoms (Lee Saha, 2011). Lee and Saha (2011) suggest that NV is enhanced under the stimulus of hCG. It peaks in the second trimester between twelve and fourteen weeks of pregnancy. The study was an experiment where four hundred to six hundred uneducated African American men were tricked into being tested. This experiment lasted for Forty years and was probably the biggest example of unethical human experimentation in America. The Lord of the Flies is a direct translation to Beelzebub, which is name given to the devil in the bible. From this we can take Golding s perspective and motives not to express the relationship between the Pig s head and the boys but human nature and evil. Soon the hunters lose sight of their school boy origins and their compassion, seeking only to hunt pigs and increase the tribe members or kill anyone standing in their way.
