Moreover, as a result of cooperation with these groups, Hydro One chose to financially support 23
locally designed projects that are proposed by 13 different groups for better improving the local area.
The offset project works through quantifying the relevant habitat loss due to the reinforcement
construction and the relevant habitat gain by the offset. Because of the trans regional property of the
line construction, the quantifications are used independently in very watershed traversed for achieving
the no net habitat loss in each local watershed area. Moreover, besides the sole quantification of
habitat changes, the social factors also have been taken into the consideration of habitat loss and gain
assessment. The social factors include the related changes in local educational opportunities, First
Nations participation opportunities, local entertainment utility. Consequently, Hydro One not only met
the requirement of no net loss, but also made a net gain to habitat via this offset project.
There are more detailed points of Hydro one project that are worth to mention.
The cost is another essential factor in consideration of project application. Hydro one costed 16
million dollar for the total environment expenditure which includes fixed and variable cost, because
cost structure indicates the types and relative proportions of fixed and variable costs that a business
expends. Fixed costs remain the same despite that the amount of goods

Last Night By Sharon Olds Summary
In the poem Last Night by Sharon Olds, the essence of the poem was greatly enhanced through the
wistful delivery of the speaker and the present tone of lust and desire. This was obtained through the
successful pronunciation of words and the various use of literary devices such as metaphors and
similes, in addition to the steamy atmosphere that the erotic tone of this poem brings. The profound
languages used helps the reader develop an idea of what the context is and the main idea that revolves
around the sentences or words. In the where it begins with Love? it shows the uncertainty of an
individual who s confused and possesses unanswered questions. When the speaker emphasizes the
question mark at the end of the word, it genuinely separates the idea of a general question and one that
is searching for answers. The goal of the language used in the poem will not be achieved without the
speaker acting on it verbally. Words are empty without emotions and therefore the speaker plays an
important role that enforces meaning and structure onto what is being said. Another important factor
would be the speaker s attitude. How the speaker approaches the poem gives away the main idea, the
concept and even the identity of the person behind these words. For example, if the speaker proceeds
through the poem with a very positive attitude, it sets a different atmosphere than the one that would
be if it was approached negatively. In this case, the speaker continues with the poem

What Was The Potato Famine
Was the Potato Famine an accident? It had little to do with the declines in food production. The bad
seasons were the cause of the death that happened during this time. You would think that the main
cause of the potato famine would be plant disease, but England s long running political hegemony
over Ireland was a huge factor.
Since the demand for potato s was higher there was a greater need to supply more, and so then
everyone started on the frenzy for potato s. When there was a strain of Phytophthora infestation
caused the widespread devastation of potato crops in Ireland and Northern Europe. The system started
to fail, and the demand for food (potato s) became greater, and then the supply of them was not met.
During this time there

Dyer, Gursoy, Sharma Carter (2007, p. 409) argued that tourism is prominent in Australia s economic
restructuring, particularly in regional and coastal areas. There are many aspects such as history,
attitudes and culture to contemplate when defining the meaning of leisure, though it is essential the
participation of recreational activities free from any other obligations or responsibilities (Lynch Veal
2006, p. 25). The issues statement provided for discussion through this essay is:

so easy to force women have no time to engage in recreation. Women always consider a range of
social or environmental factors before participate in the leisure activities such as safety, their
behaviour and level of control (Lynch Veal 2006, p. 377). Tourism is one of recreation activities, so
before join in it, they will consider where they will go, who they go with, there is safe for them and so
on. Also, women always play the role as wife and mother, and then they should do the housework and
look after children even if they got a job. In general, women lack of access to appropriate space for
leisure, they usually have less leisure time than men, especially for those in paid employment, and
then women have less chance to participate in tourism activities. On the other hand, men have more
time and more chance to go to travel than women. Overall, gender influences individuals to participate
in tourism activity.
Psychology
This section discusses psychological factors of tourism activities. In terms of psychology, tourism is
indication of tourists ideas and opinions about going on trips, about where to go and what to do, and
about how to relate to other tourists, locals, service personnel. (Leiper, cited in Richardson Fluker

A Seminar Essay
Socratic Seminar Essay There has been a drastic change in the way we perceive the world and this can
alter the way we see each other. We tend to jump onto a bandwagon because it seems easiest or
because of one personal scenario. This is one of the main causes for prejudice and injustice. How a
person reacts to being oppressed may bring out another side of them, but this side is their true self.
This reaction speaks of his or her morals, ethics, and values. To these people, all the perpetrators
appear the same, but it is known that while some may easily go along with it, some may choose to
stand above it all. The concepts referenced to earlier will be soon elaborated on in further analysis as
this essay goes on. It is human nature to assume certain ideas about certain people and it is also human
nature to love and trust wholeheartedly. These two aspects of our species collide when the terms
prejudice and injustice are involved. If one person had a certain relationship with someone different
than themselves in some way, they will most likely come in contact with someone who they feel the
need to share this event with. This person will most likely be trusted and respected by the storyteller
and listen to/believe everything they say. This is lead to rumors and soon becoming a prejudice
because there might be multiple acting this certain way. Although it does very frequently, this should
not lead people to jump to conclusions about a general group. This soon leads to

Business Combinations
Business Combination Amendments
November 29, 2008
Introduction There have recently been a number of significant accounting changes due to FASB and
the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) making modifications for the accounting
treatment of business combinations in SFAS 141(R) and IFRS 3. Business combinations have
implemented the newly created accounting treatment called the acquisition method. It will replace of
the current purchase method strategy effective January 1, 2011. The major changes in the acquisition
method involve variations to fair value measurement, goodwill recognition, and non controlling
interests.
Purchase method The purchase method was recommended for all business combinations ... Show

A requirement of this method is that the acquirer must be clearly identified in every business
consolidation. Below are several key component changes in the acquisition method:
Fair Market Value treatment Measurement of the subsidiary s net identifiable assts is based on the fair
value of the subsidiary as a whole, rather than based on the cost of purchase at the acquisition date.
The acquisition date is the closing date that the purchaser obtains control of the acquired business. For
example, the parent will still have full control of the entire subsidiary even if they purchased less than
100% of the net identifiable assets. The parent includes the full fair value of the subsidiary in the
consolidated financial statements and then allocates to the non controlling interest. The key difference
between the purchase method and the acquisition method is that in the acquisition method, all of the
FMV increment and all of the goodwill is recognized, including the portion attributable to the non
controlling interest.
The justification behind this idea is that a business in control of another entity should be able to fully
control all of their assets and

Things Fall Apart Misogynist
The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, can be viewed or depicted in many different ways
depending on the reader. The novel takes place during the late nineteenth century and the early
twentieth century in a village named Umuofia, Nigeria. The timing is important to the setting because
during this period in colonial history, Britain was trying to modernize and increase economic, cultural,
and political influence in Africa. In Things Fall Apart women are viewed as weak and oppressed, and
women are continually given bad connotations, while the men are viewed as superior. I will explain
how a feminist will feel while reading this novel by pointing out key parts of women s oppression and
how a misogynist will feel reading this book as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A misogynist, who is a person that is strongly prejudiced against women, would read this novel and
see nothing wrong with the way the women are being treated. Instead, the misogynist would praise it
and see it as a thing that should be happening. Misogynists would be entertained by the way Okonkwo
has an impulsive temper and acts before he thinks. The way Okonkwo collects and beats his wives
makes him manly in his tribe. Okonkwo gave her a sound beating and left her and her only daughter
weeping. Neither of the other wives dared to interfere beyond an occasional and tentative, It is
enough, Okonkwo, pleaded from a reasonable distance. (Shmoop, Achebe) To have the women be so
afraid of the way Okonkwo reacts and his bad temper that his wives have to tell him to stop beating
one of the other wives from a distance, shows how crazy he can get. Misogynists would not see this as
a bad thing, because they want the women to know better than to involve themselves. If one of the
wives were to get involved, meaning pushing Okonkwo off or protecting the wife getting beaten, then
Okonkwo would most likely feel disrespected or intimidated and would end up beating her,

A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For...
First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words, but,
understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or development issue.
Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the inception of new sorts of
creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the other hand, Microevolution
alludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of a gathering, however the
relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor.
According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level. So
instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require that we
zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its position on the
tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in development, for example,
the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of blooming plants. Macro evolutionary
examples are by and large what we see when we take a gander at the substantial scale history of life. It
is not as a matter of course simple to see macro evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to
be perused. Rather, we reproduce the historical backdrop of life utilizing all accessible confirmation:
geography, fossils, and living beings.
Once we ve made sense of what transformative occasions have occurred, we

Similarities Between Odysseus And Harriet Tubman
Heroic Comparison: Who s The Real Hero
Odysseus is considered a hero in his own one sided story whilst Harriet Tubman is considered a hero
by all. Although Harriet Tubman did not experience the traditional type of the twelve stages of a hero s
journey, that does not make her any less of a hero than Odysseus seems to be. In fact whilst following
the guide of the twelve stages to a hero s journey, Harriet Tubman can be viewed as a better hero
parse, than Odysseus. Although in most cases to be viewed as a hero you must be a superhero, killer,
god, or something of the sorts, Harriet can be viewed as a hero despite being an ordinary African
American woman in the racist 1800 s. However this does not mean that her story follows the 12 stages

example for an ordeal because it shows the hero getting trapped in a situation and she needs to find a
way out. Harriet gets her way out of this sticky situation by reading a book since her wanted poster

Odysseus story he wasn t alone in his situation, he had his crew with him to assist in the escape from

Global Flow of Silver Dbq Essays
The global flow of silver managed to redefine the social structure in many societies, as well as
dramatically altered the basis of the economy in many European and Asian countries. Despite the
economic change that came from the mass production of silver and its use as a standard currency, the
growth of the silver industry brought as much change socially and culturally as it brought economic
transformation. Many people viewed the conversion to silver being the standardized currency as a
huge hindrance to their daily lives, but the silver industry brought wealth to many societies and
became a necessity in trade. On one side of things, the flow of silver throughout the world brought a

Documents 3,5,6, 7 and 8 all mention how the economy changed dramatically due to the arrival and
growth of silver as a currency. In document 3, a Ming dynasty court official writes about how the
silver coin is hard to come by because the government is hoarding all of it. They take silver for taxes
but do not redistribute it to the people. He is writing this because he is trying to convince the emperor
to distribute the silver more appropriately to the people, and because his family is obviously not doing
well financially. He is a court official who most likely has small influence in the government and
writes in hopes of getting the emperor to consider spreading the wealth to the lower classes of China,
to save his family, and other families like his. Document 5 expresses a different, but somewhat related
view about how silver has become a hindrance to regular business interactions, because customers can
no longer trade items of their own to purchase goods, they have to go through a lengthy process to pay
everything in silver. Document 6 shows a counter point of view about the wealth that the mining of
silver has brought to Spain. Document 7 is a report written to convince the emperor of China that there
is much wealth to be found in foreign trade, because of how much silver some countries will pay for
Chinese goods. Finally, document 8 examines how European countries are able to purchase Asian
commodities freely because of their immense supply

Identity, And Social Identity
Social Identity Biography While thinking about who I am , I came across many different aspects:
Gender, ethnicity, religion, race, and much more. On September 11th 1996, I was born a female (sex)
to a middle aged single mother, Betty Scarborough, at U.T. Medical Center. To this day, my gender
remains a woman. Although there are many different races, I was born into this world a Caucasian
(White). When exploring the dating world, I would consider myself as a heterosexual individual
because I only have attractions to males. So, when I was born and in todays time I would consider
myself a female. When looking through my families ethnicity, I am more Irish than Cherokee.
However, I do have some German heritage through my father s side, according to my mother. Also,
when looking at my religion, I would consider my self as Christian. My family went to church every
time the doors open, this results in why I attend church every chance I can. I love being able to
worship the Lord, and learn more about him. Also, some religions believe differently than I do and
that is totally okay. So, therefore, I have a lot of Irish in me, and Christianity would be my religion.
However, as a child, I would consider myself under the lower middle class category because my
mother was a singe parent of three children. She is an Elementary school teacher, which they do not
get paid much when raising three children on her own. In today s time, I would say I am considered
under the working class category because I make enough to exceed a little over ends meet. Being in
the working class is extremely difficult because paying for bills can sometimes be difficult. So,
therefore, as a child, I fell under the lower middle class, but as a young adult, I unfortunately fall
under the working class. During this time, I would consider myself as a young adult who lives in the
United States. There are many reasons why I chose this category; I am between the ages of 18 to 30,
which usually considers an individual a young adult. Also, being a young adult is the start of having a
little more freedom than being a child. For example, at 18 you can are allowed to buy tobacco
products and join the Army, but when you become 21 of older you are allowed

Live Sound Setup
Introduction
A PA system that is installed correctly and operates at its optimum level will allow a sound signal to
travel from one or more microphones to a mixing console. At the mixing console all signals will be
mixed together in the right balance and levels and sent out to an amplifier. The signals are then
converted into much larger signals and sent to the speakers creating sound waves for the audience to
hear. (Fry, 2005)

Since the mass development of universities, it has become more traditional for people of all social
statuses to attend college. Also, since 1636 the number of people going to college has also increased as
a higher education has become more attainable for the average person. However, in recent times the
trend of an increasing enrollment has faded away. This decrease in college registration influences the
question of why students have begun to stray away from college in the last few years.
Mathew Bidwell, a professor at the Wharton University of Pennsylvania has found that About 300,000
fewer students enrolled in college this fall [2013], compared to 2012 (Bidwell 2). This decline in
enrollment is something to worry about because the future of the United States falls heavy on the

The battle that won American Independence While researching skirmishes and major battles

guerrilla like hit and run tactics of the minute men causing confusion and exhaustion to the neat

Willy Loman Out Of Work Analysis
Both Willy Loman from Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and the poetic voice of out of Work by
Langston Hughes share the common trait of unsuccessfulness. Both chose to take their path from the
choices they have taken. When given an occupation, they will stubbornly refuse, create problems for
himself and people around him and try to get a better deal off the employer than take what is given.
Firstly, both chose to ignore any job offers that were given directly to them. Nevertheless Willy from
the play and the voice from the poem assumed that those jobs will bring them more compared to their
place already. For instance, in Death of a Salesman, Charley attempted to offer [him] a job. [He can]

The Success Of Southwest Airline Company Essay
This week s case study is regarding the success of Southwest Airline Company. It was interesting to
read and see the success of Southwest uncovered. Reading these case studies it brings a different
approach to management. With this case, it shows how we have to be brave enough to step out of the
normal and go with our passion and calling in life. Herbert Kelleher was not your typical CEO. It was
fun, outgoing, witty and goofy.
1.
a. Airline customers are segmented in different groups: airlines must use the following criteria in order
to target their specific customers: identifiability, size, accessibility, growth potential, and absence of
vulnerability to competition:
i. Visit friends traveler ii. Independent traveler iii. Senior Traveler iv. Business
b. Southwest would try to market to all of them. However, would not appeal to the bigger business
owners. I would assume your higher companies they would want prefer first class with extended
options.
2. The decision to increase expansion on long hauls I think was a great idea. It not only open the door
to become profitable but also help keep their customers happy. Not everyone needed to fly short
distance. The only drawback I see is that the flights are uncomfortable and no food after five hours can

However, the benefit is not without risks, the most commonly known negative effects of AAS are
most often an increase in sexual drive, more body hair, increasingly aggressive behavior and acne

Factory Girls By Leslie Chang
In her novel Factory Girls, Leslie Chang offers an insider s perspective of the Chinese export business
that ultimately exposes the true colors of factory life in China to the people of the western society.
Throughout the novel, she cites historical reasoning as to why a sudden growth in factory workers has
occurred and how it has turned into the monstrous industry that it is now. Mainly, she credits the large
migration of people from the rural areas to the cities because this caused major political reform. The
PRC were then able to move into the global economy with a new strategy, given by Deng Xiao Ping,
which consequently caused trade to open up and certain cities to be designated as placeholders for
economic development with the potential for newer business. Most importantly, the reestablishment of
the hukou system in the early sixties, preceding the failure of Mao s Great Leap Forward plan,
affected factories in China heavily. By law, every worker in the city needed a hukou, an urban
residence permit, in order to be allowed to work. This created a huge conflict between China s urban
and rural citizens as it was made extremely difficult for people from rural areas to get hukous, which
of course everyone wanted (Naughton, pg. 118). Because of this, the urban and rural areas started to
develop in very different ways since city folk had primary access to food, even during the nationwide
famine. However, even with the societal uproar, the Chinese government did not make

The Horse Dealer s Daughter Analysis
Last Thursday, as we were out at a restaurant eating dinner we discussed D.H. Lawrence s short story
The Horse Dealer s Daughter. We talked about Mabel and her family s past and their present
situations. Surprisingly, you mention to me that you did not understand why Mabel attempts suicide.
This statement shocked me since I could think of multiple reasons that led Mabel to attempt suicide.
Throughout the short story Lawrence gave clues and reasons to why she attempts suicide. Mabel
attempts suicide for the following reasons: To feel closer to her mother, bankruptcy after her father s
death, and because she feels unloved.
One reason Mabel attempts suicide is to feel close to her mother and be with her again. Once her
mother had died, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawrence explains Mabel s thoughts on how having money made her feel secure and happy. Also,
how no longer having money she no longer feels secure as follows:
For months, Mabel had been [sic]servantless in the big house, keeping the home together in penury for
her ineffectual brothers. She had kept house for ten years. But previously, it was with unstinted means.
Then, however brutal and coarse everything was, the sense of money had kept her proud, confident.
The men might be fouled mouthed, the women in the kitchen might have bad reputations, her brothers
might have illegitimate children. But so long as there was money, the girl felt herself established, and
brutally proud, reserved. (Lawrence 4)
The earlier quote shows how money and housekeeping has kept Mabel satisfied with her life. Now
that her father has died Mabel and her family has gone bankrupt and will lose their money and their
home. Lawrence notes, Now he was dead and everything was gone to the dogs, there was nothing but
debt and threatening (4). Furthermore, Mabel has lost everything that makes her feel secure,
established, proud, happy, and confident. Yes, indeed, Mabel attempts suicide because her family s
bankruptcy caused her unhappiness.
Once Mabel s mother had died Mabel began to feel unloved. In effect of her mother s passing her
father remarried, causing the loving relationship between her and her father to disappear.
Consequently, leaving Mabel feeling alone and unloved by her

Feminism In Rear Window
Within the action and suspense of Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the theme of feminism
is uncovered. Throughout Rear Window, Lisa Fremont, the female protagonist, is a symbol of
feminism due to her character transformation. In the beginning of Rear Window, Lisa Fremont is
introduced during a conversation between L.B. Jeff Jefferies and his nurse Stella. Throughout this
conversation, Jefferies describes his girlfriend Lisa as being too perfect, she s too talented, she s too
beautiful, she s too sophisticated, she s too everything but what I want (Rear Window). While this
description of Lisa gives the viewers a preconceived impression about Lisa and that she is just not the
one for Jefferies, due to a lack of spontaneity and being adventurous, it is not true. The reality of it is
that Lisa is a financially stable, hardworking, and fashionable woman that does not need a man to
survive. Lisa is strong and independent and is a true symbol of feminism. Hitchcock was very aware
of the impact Lisa would have, especially in 1954 when the film was made, and had Lisa parade
around in the latest fashions not only for the sake of her elegance (though that was important to him)
but to bring out certain cruel and immature tendencies in Jeff, who is afraid of committing to Lisa and
who rationalizes his fear by attacks on her style and way of expressing herself (Fawell). Even though
Lisa is more than a compatible match for Jefferies, and he refuses to see so, Lisa confronts the lack of
faith Jefferies has in her and sets out to prove him wrong, just as a true feminist would do. To prove
Jefferies wrong, and let him know that she is capable of being spontaneous and not just a stuck up
fashionista, Lisa takes matters into her own hands and takes control of her body and uses it to have the
upper hand over Jefferies. This scene, where Lisa appears at Jefferies apartment, she comes in with a
tiny suitcase, proving to Jefferies that she can definitely live out of one bag, as Jefferies had
previously told her she wouldn t be able to do. Also in this scene, Lisa does not ask to stay the night,
but insists, showing Jefferies who the real boss is and taking control of the situation. Finally, the true

Analyzing 50 s And 60s American Society Through Music
Analyzing 50 s and 60s American society through music
The two songs that I am going to analyze Is Nina Simone To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Gil
Scott Heron Whitey on the Moon . I will view both of these songs in terms of there contributions to
the counter hegemonic force fighting against the dominant white supremacist ideology that was
prevalent during the 50 s and 60 s.
To give some quick context about Nina Simone, she was a genuine musical artist who routinely
recorded music that ranged across tunes from all genres. The greatest of these was To Be Young,
Gifted and Black, which Simone composed with her new protégé Weldon Irvine, a youthful jazz artist
and arranger of musicals, whose frightful verses paid tribute to the late civil rights activist Lorraine
Hansberry, who fought bravely for the rights of all Americans before her unfourtanate death. Nina
Simone had noticed that the moral of black Americans was destroyed by the way that the dominant
ideology of white supremacy which had successfully sold the idea that all races that were not White
were inferior, low class citizens who should accept there roles and deal with it. She acted as a counter
hegemonic force that challenged the way blacks were thought to view themselves for what they really
are, valuable, talented, and gifted human beings just like the Anglos were. Gil Scott Heron sang the
lyric Whitey on the Moon in 1970 reacting to Neil Armstrong s outing to the moon. In the ballad,

The Rise Of Globalization And Commercial Nationalism
Consuming The Consumer
The rise of globalization has created a demand for consumable goods on a scale never before seen on
Earth. For the first time in the history of the world, products can be sold and purchased by almost
anyone, everywhere at anytime. This, coupled with the rise of credit purchasing throughout the
industrialized world has granted buying power to even the lowest classes of the world s population.
Consumerism as it stands is not sustainable. Product Branding has the ability to place value on
everything from education to cell phones. With that in mind, we find ourselves buying experiences
and goods we rarely require, but are often told we need. Consequently, brand recognition may also be
applied to developing countries wishing to establish a marketable identity. These countries seek to
create an economic advantage through national branding that can improve loyalty as well as a sense
individual belonging of its citizens.
Nevertheless both global consumerism and commercial nationalism need to be considered when
looking at the benefits or detriments of branding.
In 1902, Thorstein Veblen labeled a middle section of society as the Leisure Class. This class
possessed purchasing power beyond basic necessities. This class required goods that set them apart
from the other (and often lower) classes of society. They wished to differentiate themselves by
reflecting status through possessed goods. Veblen writes, In order to be reputable it [goods] must be

How Hercules Changed Over Time Essay
Hercules has adapted over time because the original myth of Hercules is so complicated that for
people to comprehend it, the story of Hercules needed to be simplified. There many changes to help
people understand the story of Hercules, but there are three main topics that have been changed to
help the younger and older audiences. These three main topics that support that Hercules original story
is too complicated is, the story of his immortality, the antagonist Hades, and the happily ever after.

Yes, actually a happy ending is portrayed in both the original myth and movie, but are very different.
In the original myth Hercules died as a result of a poison, and after having burned in the funeral pyre,
he obtained immortality (Greek Mythology). He may have died, but if he did not die he would not
have become an immortal. After becoming an immortal Hercules married a women named Hebe.
Hebe was actually the daughter of Hera, the women who tried to kill Hercules. Along with getting
married he had a child in Olympus where he started to live the life of an immortal. Though he did end
with becoming immortal and getting married this is probably not the ideal ending for Disney, because
instead Disney only used half of the original myth and even changed some of that. When I say they
used half of the myth I am referring to how Hercules ended up falling in love with Meg and lived
happily, but it was with actually with Hebe. The other half of the ending is when Hercules chose to be
with Meg instead of staying immortal, because due to his decision he became a mortal. When
Hercules decided to be a mortal he also chose love. I think that with including that Hercules chose
love over eternal life he gives a good message for everyone. My guess is that Disney decided that
having the message that when you lose one thing something another thing good will happen, for
instance how Hercules was a mortal, but he also got love which was his main

The Gunpowder Plot

such as overthrowing or destabilizing an existing socio political system.
Now, looking back at the Gunpowder Plot it can be stated that it fits the definition on each point that
Symeonidou Kastanidou (2004) brings about. They were a group of thirteen skilled man, who planned
an attack on parliament. Attack was planned over the certain period of time, they had finance and
equipment (thirty six barrels of gunpowder, fuse and a fire) to carry out an attack. Equipped with
religious grievances and the intention to kill the King and members of the parliament (symbolic place,

brought change of the regime from the Protestant rule to the Catholic reign or created social
dissatisfaction and condemnation (Fraser, 1996). Schmid (1992 cited in Lutz and Lutz, 2013) states

How Did The Beatles Become So Popular
The appeal of the Beatles in 1964 could be attributed to many different things. One important reason
was that their style of music was like nothing else people would have heard on the radio. A lot of the
music on the radio was either pop or blues. The Beatles were heavily inspired by American pop and
blues acts such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley. They combined
aspects of both genres to make very radio friendly music that was still unique to the American public.
Their appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show along with a largely promoted tour of the United States
also helped launch them into superstardom in America. The Beatles were heavily promoted to be the
biggest band in the world, and it was extremely successful. They performed dozens of concerts all
over the United States, each of which was attended by thousands of screaming fans who were so loud
that the music was barely audible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are by far the most popular band of all time. Everybody knows who they are, and everyone in

The Beach Boys, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and countless other acts.
The Beatles also were responsible for bringing more popularity to psychedelic and experimental
music. Nothing that The Beatles wrote was new or groundbreaking, but they exposed millions of
people to music that otherwise would have never been heard. The Beatles, along with The Beach
Boys, were the first acts to have psychedelic songs that were high charting. If they weren t performed

Stereotypes In Video Games
Every story has a hero, no matter their motive, background, or even their gender. Yes for those who
don t know, there are women in video games. Most are in the background or running around as an ally
or enemy, but what most people don t realize is that there are a lot of games where the lead is a
female. For people who pay more attention to the gaming world, this is more common knowledge, but
there seems to be a misconception. Most think females are nothing but eye candy for male gamers, but
this is simply not true. Not only are female protagonists not represented poorly, females in general as
gamers are just as common.
There are also many female protagonists in games as well. Some of these games give you a choice to
be male or female but it doesn t effect the game experience. They give you almost full customization
abilities for either gender too. Some examples of very successful games that give you the choice to be
male or female and give you almost full customization are Skyrim, Oblivion, the Fallout series, Saints
Row series, Halo 3 and onward, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse. There are many other games that do give
you a choice but do not allow you to customize them but, some games do not let you choose for story

Roy Lichtenstein Drowning Girl
Roy Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 September 29, 1997) was one of the most innovative artists
towards the end of the 20th century. He helped originate modern day Pop Art, and his first pieces of
work were all based off of comic strips, advertisements, etc. that mimicked the indecency that
newspaper reproductions had for printing. These artworks altered the history of modern art and
created a new, American feel and view to the way art was seen as. Lichtenstein s success was through
all of his time, focus, and energy that was put into his creations, and he went on to create more than
5,000 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, murals and other objects after his peak in the 1960s.
Lichtenstein s piece Drowning Girl (1963) was an oil and synthetic polymer paint on canvas (171.6 x
169.5 cm). He based this painting off of Run for Love!, the melodramatic lead story in DC Comics
Secret Love #83 (1962), to portray a different message than the actual comic. Lichtenstein altered
words such as I don t care! and the man s (boyfriend s) name, when originally they were I don t care if

There is then the opportunity to provide individuals with advice and support to promote prevention.
The jobs have also evolved within primary care creating a very diverse client group and needs, this is
mainly due to Hospital stays being shorter so patients are being discharged into the community
requiring more acute technical care than previously Parham(2003). Where acute care within the
community is concerned these are such incidents as palliative care within the home. Due to the
recognition of the importance of primary care, primary groups were created in 1999, this was post
implementation of the White paper: The new NHS modern and dependable (Department of
Health,1997). The purpose of these groups were to improve the health of the local population they
covered and to address the health inequalities and also develop primary care and community health
services (Banks Smith 2001). Then the PCG S created and encouraged primary care to break into PCT
S (Primary Care Trusts) this now means that each trust manages their own services. There are many
professions involved in the primary care sector. Here are some examples: · District Nurses · Health
Visitors · School Nurses · Practice Nurses · Specialist Practitioners · General Practitioners ·

Elijah Rylson Case Study
Elijah Rylson was born October 26th, 1999. His parents were Elijah Rylson Sr. and Catherine Rylson.
Elijah s mother, Catherine had died two weeks after his birth in a car accident. Soon after his wife s
death, Elijah Sr. had gone into deep clinical depression from the passing of his wife and having to take
care of his first child all by himself. Within a short few months Elijah s Sr. s depression had turned
into alcoholism
Elijah Jr. who mainly went with Eli has very few memories of his father being sober. One time when
they both had to attend his grandfather s funeral, on his tenth birthday party, and now, on his
seventeenth birthday where he just bought his own car an old beat up minivan with money he s been

Eli and Vivian were talking for nearly three before he had asked her out on a date. Eli had taken
Vivian out to a classy restaurant and a movie where they had their first kiss. Eventually in no time the
two were highschool sweethearts and inseparable. Right after both had graduated high school they got
matching tattoos to symbolize the strong love they have for eachother. Five years after graduation Eli
had proposed to Vivian where they had went on there first date. It was nearly ten years later when the
couple had three children, a house in the suburbs, a border collie dog and a life they had always
dreamed of.
One day while on his way to pick up his children from school he stopped at a gas station to fill up his
tank. A bus had swerved off the road and hit a pump while trying to avoid hitting a dog crossing the
street. Once the bus hit the pump instantly the gas station exploded. Eli had woken up with major deja
vu, a bright light above his head, his bare butt on a cold hospital mattress wearing a hospital gown,
and a thin blanket covering him.

The Pros And Cons Of Restraint
Restraints limit a patient s movement. This brings up many ethical debates and issues. There are
certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know
the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a
chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present risk
and negative outcomes.
History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the late
1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared to a
current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal government and
accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints (Taylor et al. 2015, p.
708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the health care team the risks of
using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up.
Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are physical,
chemical, and seclusion. According to Springer (2015), a physical restraint is a device that keeps the
patient from moving freely or from the patient harming themselves or other people nearby. Chemical
restraints are drugs that are administered that do the same thing a physical restraint does.

Overview Of Drunk Driving
Every day people put their lives in danger when they get behind the wheel, sober or not. Most people
probably think that a majority of car accidents were caused from drunk driving, but there are also
numerous other reasons. The tiniest of distractions can make a ginormous change in someone s life.
Texting, along with drinking, are among the most dangerous problems of driving. In 2015 alone, 3,477
people were killed, and 391,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers (
Distracted ). When looking at statistics, approximately 660,000 drivers are using their cell phones (
Distracted ). The potential to be in an accident caused by texting is tremendous. Not only that, but
every day, 28 people in the United States die

  • 4. Last Night By Sharon Olds Summary In the poem Last Night by Sharon Olds, the essence of the poem was greatly enhanced through the wistful delivery of the speaker and the present tone of lust and desire. This was obtained through the successful pronunciation of words and the various use of literary devices such as metaphors and similes, in addition to the steamy atmosphere that the erotic tone of this poem brings. The profound languages used helps the reader develop an idea of what the context is and the main idea that revolves around the sentences or words. In the where it begins with Love? it shows the uncertainty of an individual who s confused and possesses unanswered questions. When the speaker emphasizes the question mark at the end of the word, it genuinely separates the idea of a general question and one that is searching for answers. The goal of the language used in the poem will not be achieved without the speaker acting on it verbally. Words are empty without emotions and therefore the speaker plays an important role that enforces meaning and structure onto what is being said. Another important factor would be the speaker s attitude. How the speaker approaches the poem gives away the main idea, the concept and even the identity of the person behind these words. For example, if the speaker proceeds through the poem with a very positive attitude, it sets a different atmosphere than the one that would be if it was approached negatively. In this case, the speaker continues with the poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bad seasons were the cause of the death that happened during this time. You would think that the main cause of the potato famine would be plant disease, but England s long running political hegemony over Ireland was a huge factor. Since the demand for potato s was higher there was a greater need to supply more, and so then everyone started on the frenzy for potato s. When there was a strain of Phytophthora infestation caused the widespread devastation of potato crops in Ireland and Northern Europe. There are many aspects such as history, attitudes and culture to contemplate when defining the meaning of leisure, though it is essential the participation of recreational activities free from any other obligations or responsibilities (Lynch Veal 2006, p. 25). The women s recreation is constrained by patriarchy the pervasive power of men in society. It is so easy to force women have no time to engage in recreation. Women always consider a range of social or environmental factors before participate in the leisure activities such as safety, their behaviour and level of control (Lynch Veal 2006, p. 377). Tourism is one of recreation activities, so before join in it, they will consider where they will go, who they go with, there is safe for them and so on. Also, women always play the role as wife and mother, and then they should do the housework and look after children even if they got a job. In general, women lack of access to appropriate space for leisure, they usually have less leisure time than men, especially for those in paid employment, and then women have less chance to participate in tourism activities. On the other hand, men have more time and more chance to go to travel than women. Overall, gender influences individuals to participate in tourism activity. • 7. A Seminar Essay Socratic Seminar Essay There has been a drastic change in the way we perceive the world and this can alter the way we see each other. We tend to jump onto a bandwagon because it seems easiest or because of one personal scenario. This is one of the main causes for prejudice and injustice. How a person reacts to being oppressed may bring out another side of them, but this side is their true self. This reaction speaks of his or her morals, ethics, and values. To these people, all the perpetrators appear the same, but it is known that while some may easily go along with it, some may choose to stand above it all. The concepts referenced to earlier will be soon elaborated on in further analysis as this essay goes on. It is human nature to assume certain ideas about certain people and it is also human nature to love and trust wholeheartedly. These two aspects of our species collide when the terms prejudice and injustice are involved. If one person had a certain relationship with someone different than themselves in some way, they will most likely come in contact with someone who they feel the need to share this event with. This person will most likely be trusted and respected by the storyteller and listen to/believe everything they say. This is lead to rumors and soon becoming a prejudice because there might be multiple acting this certain way. Business combinations have implemented the newly created accounting treatment called the acquisition method. It will replace of the current purchase method strategy effective January 1, 2011. A requirement of this method is that the acquirer must be clearly identified in every business consolidation. Below are several key component changes in the acquisition method: Fair Market Value treatment Measurement of the subsidiary s net identifiable assts is based on the fair value of the subsidiary as a whole, rather than based on the cost of purchase at the acquisition date. The acquisition date is the closing date that the purchaser obtains control of the acquired business. For example, the parent will still have full control of the entire subsidiary even if they purchased less than 100% of the net identifiable assets. The parent includes the full fair value of the subsidiary in the consolidated financial statements and then allocates to the non controlling interest. The key difference between the purchase method and the acquisition method is that in the acquisition method, all of the FMV increment and all of the goodwill is recognized, including the portion attributable to the non controlling interest. The novel takes place during the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century in a village named Umuofia, Nigeria. The timing is important to the setting because during this period in colonial history, Britain was trying to modernize and increase economic, cultural, and political influence in Africa. In Things Fall Apart women are viewed as weak and oppressed, and women are continually given bad connotations, while the men are viewed as superior. I will explain how a feminist will feel while reading this novel by pointing out key parts of women s oppression and how a misogynist will feel reading this book as well. ... Instead, the misogynist would praise it and see it as a thing that should be happening. Misogynists would be entertained by the way Okonkwo has an impulsive temper and acts before he thinks. The way Okonkwo collects and beats his wives makes him manly in his tribe. Okonkwo gave her a sound beating and left her and her only daughter weeping. Neither of the other wives dared to interfere beyond an occasional and tentative, It is enough, Okonkwo, pleaded from a reasonable distance. (Shmoop, Achebe) To have the women be so afraid of the way Okonkwo reacts and his bad temper that his wives have to tell him to stop beating one of the other wives from a distance, shows how crazy he can get. Misogynists would not see this as a bad thing, because they want the women to know better than to involve themselves. • 12. A Note On Macro, Micro Evolution There Is Important For... First off, when talk about macro, micro evolution there is much falsehood about these two words, but, understanding them is maybe the vital essential for comprehension the creation or development issue. Macroevolution alludes to major developmental changes after some time, the inception of new sorts of creatures from beforehand existing, yet distinctive, tribal sorts. On the other hand, Microevolution alludes to assortments inside of a given sort. Change happens inside of a gathering, however the relative is unmistakably of the same sort as the precursor. According to Berkeley.edu, Macroevolution generally refers to evolution above the species level. So instead of focusing on an individual beetle species, a macroevolutionary lens might require that we zoom out on the tree of life, to assess the diversity of the entire beetle clade and its position on the tree. Macroevolution includes the most amazing patterns and changes in development, for example, the beginning of warm blooded animals and the radiation of blooming plants. Macro evolutionary examples are by and large what we see when we take a gander at the substantial scale history of life. It is not as a matter of course simple to see macro evolutionary history; there are no firsthand records to be perused. On September 11th 1996, I was born a female (sex) to a middle aged single mother, Betty Scarborough, at U.T. Medical Center. To this day, my gender remains a woman. Although there are many different races, I was born into this world a Caucasian (White). When exploring the dating world, I would consider myself as a heterosexual individual because I only have attractions to males. So, when I was born and in todays time I would consider myself a female. When looking through my families ethnicity, I am more Irish than Cherokee. Also, some religions believe differently than I do and that is totally okay. So, therefore, I have a lot of Irish in me, and Christianity would be my religion. However, as a child, I would consider myself under the lower middle class category because my mother was a singe parent of three children. Factory Girls By Leslie Chang In her novel Factory Girls, Leslie Chang offers an insider s perspective of the Chinese export business that ultimately exposes the true colors of factory life in China to the people of the western society. Throughout the novel, she cites historical reasoning as to why a sudden growth in factory workers has occurred and how it has turned into the monstrous industry that it is now. Mainly, she credits the large migration of people from the rural areas to the cities because this caused major political reform. The PRC were then able to move into the global economy with a new strategy, given by Deng Xiao Ping, which consequently caused trade to open up and certain cities to be designated as placeholders for economic development with the potential for newer business. Most importantly, the reestablishment of the hukou system in the early sixties, preceding the failure of Mao s Great Leap Forward plan, affected factories in China heavily. By law, every worker in the city needed a hukou, an urban residence permit, in order to be allowed to work. This created a huge conflict between China s urban and rural citizens as it was made extremely difficult for people from rural areas to get hukous, which of course everyone wanted (Naughton, pg. 118). • 29. Feminism In Rear Window Within the action and suspense of Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the theme of feminism is uncovered. Throughout Rear Window, Lisa Fremont, the female protagonist, is a symbol of feminism due to her character transformation. In the beginning of Rear Window, Lisa Fremont is introduced during a conversation between L.B. Jeff Jefferies and his nurse Stella. Throughout this conversation, Jefferies describes his girlfriend Lisa as being too perfect, she s too talented, she s too beautiful, she s too sophisticated, she s too everything but what I want (Rear Window). While this description of Lisa gives the viewers a preconceived impression about Lisa and that she is just not the one for Jefferies, due to a lack of spontaneity and being adventurous, it is not true. The reality of it is that Lisa is a financially stable, hardworking, and fashionable woman that does not need a man to survive. Lisa is strong and independent and is a true symbol of feminism. Hitchcock was very aware of the impact Lisa would have, especially in 1954 when the film was made, and had Lisa parade around in the latest fashions not only for the sake of her elegance (though that was important to him) but to bring out certain cruel and immature tendencies in Jeff, who is afraid of committing to Lisa and who rationalizes his fear by attacks on her style and way of expressing herself (Fawell). Even though Lisa is more than a compatible match for Jefferies, and he refuses to see so, Lisa confronts the lack of faith Jefferies has in her and sets out to prove him wrong, just as a true feminist would do. To prove Jefferies wrong, and let him know that she is capable of being spontaneous and not just a stuck up fashionista, Lisa takes matters into her own hands and takes control of her body and uses it to have the upper hand over Jefferies. This scene, where Lisa appears at Jefferies apartment, she comes in with a tiny suitcase, proving to Jefferies that she can definitely live out of one bag, as Jefferies had previously told her she wouldn t be able to do. Also in this scene, Lisa does not ask to stay the night, but insists, showing Jefferies who the real boss is and taking control of the situation. Finally, the true part in this ... Analyzing 50 s And 60s American Society Through Music Analyzing 50 s and 60s American society through music The two songs that I am going to analyze Is Nina Simone To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Gil Scott Heron Whitey on the Moon . I will view both of these songs in terms of there contributions to the counter hegemonic force fighting against the dominant white supremacist ideology that was prevalent during the 50 s and 60 s. To give some quick context about Nina Simone, she was a genuine musical artist who routinely recorded music that ranged across tunes from all genres. The greatest of these was To Be Young, Gifted and Black, which Simone composed with her new protégé Weldon Irvine, a youthful jazz artist and arranger of musicals, whose frightful verses paid tribute to the late civil rights activist Lorraine Hansberry, who fought bravely for the rights of all Americans before her unfourtanate death. Nina Simone had noticed that the moral of black Americans was destroyed by the way that the dominant ideology of white supremacy which had successfully sold the idea that all races that were not White were inferior, low class citizens who should accept there roles and deal with it. She acted as a counter hegemonic force that challenged the way blacks were thought to view themselves for what they really are, valuable, talented, and gifted human beings just like the Anglos were. • 35. The Rise Of Globalization And Commercial Nationalism Consuming The Consumer The rise of globalization has created a demand for consumable goods on a scale never before seen on Earth. For the first time in the history of the world, products can be sold and purchased by almost anyone, everywhere at anytime. This, coupled with the rise of credit purchasing throughout the industrialized world has granted buying power to even the lowest classes of the world s population. Consumerism as it stands is not sustainable. Product Branding has the ability to place value on everything from education to cell phones. With that in mind, we find ourselves buying experiences and goods we rarely require, but are often told we need. Consequently, brand recognition may also be applied to developing countries wishing to establish a marketable identity. These countries seek to create an economic advantage through national branding that can improve loyalty as well as a sense individual belonging of its citizens. Nevertheless both global consumerism and commercial nationalism need to be considered when looking at the benefits or detriments of branding. In 1902, Thorstein Veblen labeled a middle section of society as the Leisure Class. This class possessed purchasing power beyond basic necessities. This class required goods that set them apart from the other (and often lower) classes of society. They wished to differentiate themselves by reflecting status through possessed goods. There many changes to help people understand the story of Hercules, but there are three main topics that have been changed to help the younger and older audiences. These three main topics that support that Hercules original story is too complicated is, the story of his immortality, the antagonist Hades, and the happily ever after. In the original myth Hercules died as a result of a poison, and after having burned in the funeral pyre, he obtained immortality (Greek Mythology). He may have died, but if he did not die he would not have become an immortal. After becoming an immortal Hercules married a women named Hebe. Hebe was actually the daughter of Hera, the women who tried to kill Hercules. Along with getting married he had a child in Olympus where he started to live the life of an immortal. Though he did end with becoming immortal and getting married this is probably not the ideal ending for Disney, because instead Disney only used half of the original myth and even changed some of that. When I say they used half of the myth I am referring to how Hercules ended up falling in love with Meg and lived happily, but it was with actually with Hebe. The other half of the ending is when Hercules chose to be with Meg instead of staying immortal, because due to his decision he became a mortal. When Hercules decided to be a mortal he also chose love. I think that with including that Hercules chose love over eternal life he gives a good message for everyone. My guess is that Disney decided that having the message that when you lose one thing something another thing good will happen, for instance how Hercules was a mortal, but he also got love which was his main ... One important reason was that their style of music was like nothing else people would have heard on the radio. A lot of the music on the radio was either pop or blues. The Beatles were heavily inspired by American pop and blues acts such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley. They combined aspects of both genres to make very radio friendly music that was still unique to the American public. Their appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show along with a largely promoted tour of the United States also helped launch them into superstardom in America. He helped originate modern day Pop Art, and his first pieces of work were all based off of comic strips, advertisements, etc. that mimicked the indecency that newspaper reproductions had for printing. He based this painting off of Run for Love!, the melodramatic lead story in DC Comics Secret Love #83 (1962), to portray a different message than the actual comic. • 44. The Pros And Cons Of Restraint Restraints limit a patient s movement. This brings up many ethical debates and issues. There are certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present risk and negative outcomes. History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the late 1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared to a current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal government and accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints (Taylor et al. 2015, p. 708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the health care team the risks of using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up. Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are physical, chemical, and seclusion.
