Developments Of Securing The Nation s Ports
Developments in securing the nation s ports have occurred since September 11, 2001:
According to American Association of Ports Authorities (n. d) the United States is served by some 360
commercial ports that provide approximately 3,200 cargo and passenger handling facilities and there
are more than 150 deep draft seaports under the jurisdiction of 126 public seaport agencies located
along the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf and Great Lakes coasts, as well as in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico,
Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Transportation Security Administration (2010), broaden the
definition of the maritime sector to include a wide range of watercraft and vessels and consists of
approximately 95,000 miles of coastline, 361 ports, more than ... Show more content on

Furthermore, on August 9, 2004, the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2004 were
signed into law. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the United States Coast Guard
(USCG) are the Sector Specific Agencies (SSAs) for the Transportation Systems Sector. They teamed
up with the Department of Transportation to coordinate the preparedness activities in the national
maritime domain. The SSAs partners functions are to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover
from all hazards that could have a debilitating effect on homeland security, public health and safety, or
economic well being using the National Infrastructure Protection Plan risk management framework as
risk management and mitigation framework (Transportation Security Administration 2010).
Dual threats of terrorism and natural disasters and their affected port security: Provide examples to
illustrate your findings.
A natural disaster is a sudden calamitous event that is the result of atmospheric and other geological
imbalances that threatens the viability of the organization and is characterized by creating chaos,
disruption of operations, confusion, and even death of employees (Morrison, et al 2014, p. 66).
Natural disasters that can have more negative impact or affects on the port security include
earthquake, hurricane, flood, volcanic eruption, tsunami, just to mention but few. Also, some

Diomedes Poetry Analysis
Then, when the Achaeans start loosing, Athena and Hera harness Heras chariot and put on their armor.
When they get Zeus approval to aid the Acheans, they fly to the battlefield, and Hera gives courage to
the Achaean forces.Athena flies to Diomedes to remind him that she will protect him and that there
should be no reason to be afraid, in fact, she criticizes him. Diomedes replies that Ares is dominating
the battle resulting Athena to get into Diomedes chariot to attack Ares. With Athena s help, Diomedes
spears Ares; In a panic, Ares flies away. The gods constantly intervene in the war, and to some extent,
the tides of war can be measured by a gods intervention. Usually, when a god arrives, it changes the
outcome on the battlefield, as soldiers will are given new courage. With Athena s help, Diomedes
glory reaches its peak as he spears the god of war himself. The passage is interesting because it
suggests the relationship between free will and divinity in the poem. Diomedes deemed a strong
fighter, and yet he s dependent upon the gods for support. He not a free agent: instead, he needs the
help of gods and goddesses. In this way, the passage reinforces why religion and divine worship are so
important in the poem: without the gods maneuvering them, the characters couldn t accomplish much.
Finally, the gods intervention is a reinforcement that the battle between Achaea and Troy is a battle
between groups of gods in conflict. At the beginning of book four, the

The Food On Biola University Is All Provided By Bon Appetite
The food on Biola University is all provided by Bon Appetite. In the beginning, I did not know that
Bon Appetite s food was Certified Humane so I decided to show support of humane treatment of
animals by going on a vegetarian diet. Since I could not go off campus to buy Certified Humane
groceries nor could I really afford buying healthy groceries, I decided to go vegetarian. I did the
vegetarian diet for two weeks and obtained protein through nuts, beans, and peanut butter. When I was
participating in the diet, I realized how common meat was a part of the dishes served for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner. It was often a central part of a dish, and meat was always served for every meal.
While protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, the amount offered is more than needed. After this
exercise, I am willing to consider giving up chicken or pork. I also definitely suggest going on a
vegetarian diet for at least a week or two to experience what it is like. I gained a broader perspective
when I did this diet and learned how vegetarians got their protein, why vegetarians did their diet, and
obtained a common ground to discuss about with vegetarians or vegans. I find that a vegetarian diet is
a lot easier than a vegan diet. Perhaps one should participate in a vegetarian diet for a week and then a
vegan diet for another week. In addition, to fully understand the purpose of such diet and effects of
such diet, one should perhaps journal their experience, note down what they would

Questions On Behavior And Behavior
Purpose of Study With every misbehavior, a child is communicating their needs to an adult. The
purpose of this research is to fully understand why misbehavior occurs in the classroom. Through
relevant research and in class observations, this study will conclude how teachers can positively guide
the class to avoid reoccurrence of misbehaviors. Understanding why the misbehavior is occurring will
help avoid the situation for future occurrence. Research that is mentioned this study covers different
aspects of misbehaviors including different theorists and beliefs to why misbehavior occurs in the
classroom. The purpose of this study is also to observe students in a classroom environment to see
how often misbehavior happens. Classroom observations will help identify misbehaviors that occur
with a specific student or the whole class and how often it occurs. Different methods were used to
conduct and document this observation for applicable results.
MEDTHODS Participant This study was conduced in a third grade classroom, located on the east side
of Anchorage. The observation was focused on the whole class with a focus on a specific child when
misbehavior occurs. The classroom has twenty three students. Only one student has a personal
behavior scale chart that is sent home to the parents about his classroom behavior. The scale chart is a
1 5 scale categorized in math, reading, writing, transition, specials, and intervention time. For whole
class, there is a reminder consequence

Introduction of Induction Motor and Speed Control
Induction motor is widely used in many different industries, it is a kind of machine use AC electric
power to generate magnetic force and field from the stator winding. The different of induction motor
from other kinds of motors is that induction motor need no automatic commutation, separate
excitation or self excitation from stator to rotor to changing the power. Rotor voltage is induced in the

Major methods of induction motor speed control
1) Changing the stator side supply voltage
Speed Nāˆ torque T, so we can use the torque changing to represent the changing in speed.
As we know: Induction motor`s torque equation
is the rotor resistor value and when the slip stays a very small value, then the s is also very small so it
can be treat as a 0 value. is rotor induced EMF and it is in direct proportion to the voltage. Torque is in
direct proportion to the s. Therefore, we know that torque T is also in direct proportion to . When we
increase(decrease)the voltage supply, the torque will increase(decrease), therefore the speed
increase(decrease). By changing the voltage supply we can achieve the speed control, this is the
simplest way to control the speed. But not widely use in the real industry. Because: change a very
large voltage but the speed only changes a little, the speed control range is too small. When the supply
voltage has a sudden changing, the flux density in the motor, a sudden changing flus density will
result a change in magnetic conditions of the motor. This result is not welcomed in the real condition
of use. So changing the supply voltage is rarely used.[5][6]

Thoughts and behavior
Thoughts are just electrochemical reactions to Stimuli. When we experience anything, we can react to
it, and generally these reactions plot as ponderings. Yet would we say we are these reactions? We must
be more than reactions to helpers, especially if we can control these reactions properly. It would be
disabling to know the inconsistent examinations which appear in our minds, especially the ones which
are seen as uncommon or disturbing, are to be characteristically our own. An idea or thought can be
for the most part characterized as a mental wonder inside the human personality that can influence a
singular s conduct to a huge degree. Amid intuition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pitiful recollections, or melancholic contemplations may make an individual cry. In the meantime, the
cerebrum can control perspectives and direct them; it can change musings also, however it doesn t
appear to stop the reasoning procedure.
The other intense hotspot for musings is an outer domain. Individuals respond to external boosts and
react suitably. In the event that the encompassing is perilous, or the circumstance is distressing, people
have a tendency to have frightful and pessimistic contemplations. Contemplations result into feelings,
and feelings reinforce considerations. An individual may act nonsensically, for instance shout, cry, or
assault others. The other kind of response as to stretch is a power outage, or here and there even loss
of motion. Conversely, if the encompassing is protected or advantageous, individuals feel good, and
their contemplations get to be more peaceful, which likewise brings about conduct. A smooth
individual has a tendency to be all the more amicable to their encompassing, more supportive and
lovely in correspondence. At the end of the day, individuals behavioral

Transgender Bathrooms
I was delighted to see that the people of Houston voted for common sense. Newt Gingrich had
remarkable words to say after the city of Houston didn t vote in favor of the transgender bathroom
law. According to Kaeley Triller, There s no way to make everyone happy about transgender
bathrooms and locker rooms. So the priority ought to be finding a way to keep everyone safe. If you
have a gender on your birth certificate, then that is your gender, regardless of what you want to be.
Debate.org states, Biologically, there are only two options male and female. To claim that sex is fluid
is insanity. This shows that you are either male or female, and there is no switching around.
Transgenders should use the bathroom of the gender on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On the other side of the debate, people claim that it only matters about what you think of yourself.
But, there is no way to prove if you are actually a transgender. NBC Washington states, D.C. police
have charged a security guard at a Giant grocery store with simple assault after a transgender woman
said the guard forced her out of the women s restroom. The guard was mistaken because the woman
could not prove anything. She didn t know if this person was a man or a woman because it is too
confusing. She didn t have a permit or a legal document saying that she was a woman. So, until you
can prove that someone is legitly a transgender, they have to use the bathroom of their birth gender.
Genesis 1:26 states And God created man in His image, in His likeness; male and female He created
them . . . . and it was very good. Whether you believe in god or not, this proves that we were created
to be male or female. We were not created to switch. Whatever created us had the best ideas for us to
become successful. We were put on this earth for a reason, and that reason is not to change between
genders. We can t prove if a person is a transgender, and that adds confusion, and also creates a danger
of sexual assault. Finally, Amanda Prestigiacomo writes, A Seattle man, citing transgender bathrooms
laws, was able to gain access to a women s locker room at a public recreational center while little girls

Sample Classroom Observation
I conducted my observations at the HUB, outside where the tables are located. I decided upon this
location due to its large size, alongside the fact that it is placed in a spot where most people have to
pass by while walking to class. Additionally, I decided to sit outside the HUB rather than inside due to
the fact that I would be exposed to more people, sounds, and smells; I would be out in the open rather
than a closed setting. Almost every UCR faculty member takes pride in mentioning how diverse the
UCR campus is, however, I had not truly recognized how diverse the campus is until I sat down and
focused on observing other people. I noticed people of all sizes, skin colors, hair types, speaking a
wide array of different languages and eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest difference were the population size, drinks of choice, and noise level. The group of people
sitting outside the HUB decreased in size from Wednesday at noon to Friday at 10 am. I deduce that
this was due to the fact that maybe people were not on campus yet as they had later classes, or most
were in class already. Moreover, I noticed that people were mostly drinking water during my
observation period on Wednesday, whereas the overall drink of choice on Friday was coffee. I
presume this shift in drink choice was due to the change in time; people enjoy drinking coffee in the
mornings and/or it helps people reduce the groggy, tired feeling of waking up. The noise level was the
most drastic change. The HUB and its surroundings were boisterous and lively during Wednesday at
noon whereas the HUB fell a bit silent during Friday at 10 am. I consider this change drastic as the
decrease in noise level was outstandingly clear almost immediately. I assume this was due to the fact
that most people were still waking up and had not yet summoned all energy. With these observations, I
not only improved my observational skills, however, I also realized how fortunate I am to attend a
school that celebrates and encourages diversity among

The ideology of quot;strong and stable quot; is high evident within the world that of which is

in living standards as a result of the Stock Market Crash of 1929, which led to the total economic
collapse of the Great

placing the complete control of the world #39;s politics and economic system under the World State,

at the cost of progress, as the World Controllers believe that progress, although a positive force for
change, comes at the possibility of instability and civil unrest. This is shown when the World State
attempts to trial a four day work week on a remote

Mr.Sir opened the nozzle and the water flowed out of the tank but did not go in Stanley s canteen. In
Louis Sachar s novel, Holes, Mr.Sir thought stanley was a liar, troublemaker, and was careless, but he
is actually nice, helpful, and loving.
People used to think stanley wasn t very nice but now that they know him most people think he is
really nice. One example that show s stanley is nice is when he took the blame of stealing the
sunflower seeds when magnet was actually the one who stole it. Secondly, instead of trying to beat up
people when they were making fun of Zero Stanley just reminded them that someone does care about
Zero. Lastly, instead of not caring about Zero running away he went after him so he could help him
survive out in the wild and not become buzzard food. Those 3 reasons are why people started to see
how nice Stanley really is.

leave camp without Hector Zeroni even though his lawyer told him to leave Hector there. Lastly, when
Stanley figured out how much money was inside the suitcase instead of keeping everything for

Drug Policy: A Look at America s Ineffective Approach to Drugs
Introduction In January 2004, senatorial candidate Barack Obama firmly opposed the twenty two year
war on drugs, saying that the United States approach in the drug war has been ineffective
(Debussman). Although the term, war on drugs, was originally coined by President Richard Nixon in
1971, it wasn t until Ronald Reagan announced that drugs were menacing society that it became a
major policy goal to stop widespread use. Following Reagan s promises to fight for drug free schools
and workplaces, the United States boosted its efforts in its most recent declaration ... Show more

Liberalizing drug reforms would be a step in the right direction for Colombia and would seriously
burden the cartels (Leff). The drug war is a catalyst that has increased the profits of drug cartels. The
illegal nature of narcotics limits supply, allowing the cartels to charge large sums of money for their
product. Everytime the authorities fighting the drug war bust a drug deal, the supply currently
available goes down, and cartels are able to charge even more for drugs. The system of criminilazation
created by the drug war is actually the reason that cartels are so profitable. By driving down prices, the
power of drug cartels is limited. The illegality of the drug trade directs its multi billion dollar profits
go to criminal gangs. The drugs account for the bulk of the gangs income and thus their firepower (
Burn ). Legalization benefits drug producing countries by decreasing the money that cartels can use to
buy firearms, 90% of which are sold to them from the United States (Ellingwood et al.). This would
allow governments, rather than gangs, to govern the country. The militarization and criminalization of
drugs in Latin America has led to a precipitous increase in violence, killing thousands of people and
injuring many more. Economist Jeffrey Miron of CNN writes, Prohibition creates violence because it
drives the drug market underground. This means buyers and sellers

Communism And Fascism Similarities
There are many political philosophies in this day and age. Many people seem to confuse the terms
such as Communism, Socialism, and Fascism together. This is major mistake. Although they have
some overlap they are all different ideologies and are not the same thing. These ideologies all have
their own separate beliefs. Their terms are not interchangeable, Socialism is Socialism, not
Communism. Fascism, by definition, is an authoritarian and nationalistic right wing system of
government and social organization. The name comes from an Italian word, fascismo. This means
bundle, political group. This would be prominent in Mussolini s Italy. The main idea is to do what is
best for the state, not necessarily the people. The government would do what they thought would be
best for the wellbeing of the country as a whole, not necessarily its residents.( What is Fascism? ). ...

It would be published in his Communist Manifesto. This ideology would spread to Russia in the form

social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be
owned or regulated by the community as a whole. This ideology basically makes everyone even.
Equal wages amongst everyone to make society equal. This ideology can be seen in China today.

Celiac Disease Research Papers
Did you know that if you have celiac diease it can stun your growth? There s no cure for celiac disease
but following a strict gluten free diet can help manage symptoms and promote intestinal healing. If
you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Over time,
this reaction produces inflammation that damages the small intestine s lining and prevents absorption
of some nutrients (malabsorption). When people with celiac disease eat gluten (a protein found in
wheat, rye and barley), their body mounts an immune response that attacks the small intestine. These
attacks lead to damage on the villi, small fingerlike projections that line the small intestine, that
promote nutrient absorption. When the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

History Celiac disease (CD) was first described in the second century, but the cause wasn t identified
until the 20th century. Terminology has changed as research confirmed that celiac disease diagnosed
in children was the same disease as non tropical sprue diagnosed in adults. CD was born over 2000

Transformational Opportunities Exist With The United...
Transformational Opportunities Exist to Integrate the United States Mental Health System Mental
illness refers to all diagnosable mental disorders defined as health conditions that are characterized by
alterations in thinking, mood or behavior (or some combination thereof) associated with distress
and/or impaired functioning. (Williams Torrens, 2008, p. 221) With one in every five American adults
experiencing mental illness, the resulting economic burden exceeds $300 billion per year to include
approximately $100 billion in direct health care expenditures, $24 billion in disability benefits, and
$193 billion in lost earnings. (Insel, 2008) This estimate is conservative as it excludes the components
of incarceration, homelessness, comorbid conditions, early mortality and the incalculable costs to
families that absorb much of the financial and emotional burdens of these illnesses. Despite the fact
mental illness contributes over 6% to the nation s health care spending; the United States (U.S.)
mental health system has historically lacked integration with physical medicine and public policy
support. (Insel, 2008) The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), though not a panacea,
has provided an opportunity to bolster a broken mental health system. The ACA includes a variety of
provisions to effect the biggest expansion of mental health and substance abuse services in a
generation. (Golden Vail, 2014, p. 96) The expansion of health insurance coverage

Muhammad s Influence On Islam
In the year wchih followed the Revelation, Muhammad began his public preaching. The first converts
include his wife Khadija, cousin Ali, other people closely related to him, and eventually more people
from his own clan of Hashim. At first there was no sign of opposition against Muhammad s teaching,
but as it become more widespread in Mecca, people start seeing it as a threat to the city s stability.
Muhammad s message about a single, all powerful deity negates the legitimacy of the haram and its
idols, puting the holy and neutral status of the site at risk. This theological clash continued to put
pressure on Muhammad and his followers. However, they receive protection because of the solidity of
the clan system. It had been Abu Talib, Muhammad s uncle, who united the Hashim in support of
Muhammad and protected him for his Meccan opposition.
In 619, both Khadija and Abu Thalib, two of Muhammad s most important protecters passed away and
his opposition became even more bold and determined to pressure Muhammad. It is important to
remember that the previous early success of the spread of Islam in Mecca could only be achieved
because of Muhammad s allegience and close relationship with these two important Meccan figures.
In other words, Muhammad s kinship paved the way for his teachings to be disemminated within the
Meccan society. As Meccans become more hostile towards Muhammad, he began to look outside his
native city for support. At this crucial point, Muhammad was

Monocular Deprivation
In the early postnatal life, there are restricted time windows within which the essential role of
experience is mainly evident. These time windows are called critical periods.54In critical periods
brain circuits display a high sensitivity to acquire informative and adaptive signals from the exterior
environment. Visual deprivation or ocular abnormalities in early life causes disruption of proper
environmental signals that can result in long tremor even permanent brain diseases,55one of them is
Amblyopia.56
The deļ¬cits can be avoided if deprivation begins postnatal, but there are different sensitive periods for
different visual capabilities: 3 months for scotopic sensitivity, 6 months for photopic sensitivity, 18 24
months for spatial contrast sensitivity, and after 2 years for binocular vision. These ļ¬ndings found that
there is not just one visual sensitive period but rather that there are different sensitive periods during
which different characteristics of vision can bedamaged.43The critical period for monocular

Social Media As A Negative Aspect Of Their Lives
Many people have begun to perceive social media as a negative aspect of their lives. They believe that
they do not get enough face to face interaction and this causes their actual social life to deteriorate.
However, this is a fallacy. Clive Thompson writes, Fewer than 20% of kids send more than 200 texts a
day; 31% send barely 20 or fewer (Thompson Teenagers and social networking it might actually be
good for them ). It is a person s choice to spend the majority of their time using social media. Social
media has many more positives than negatives. A perfect example of this is global communications.
People can speak with relatives, business partners, and friends from around the world. Many others
are capable of using social media to their economic advantage as well. There are many companies
founded through the use of the internet and use social media to self promote these companies. Also,
the internet and specifically, social media is now used as a valuable source of news and many people s
primary way of obtaining recent news. Therefore, although social media may cause less human
interaction it does generally make us more social due to the fact that we can interact with others
globally within minutes and access news in the same fashion. There are many cases of ludicrous
things happening on the internet through social media. Things such as cyber bullying or stalking. Due
to this many people no longer feel safe when they use social media. They are reluctant to post

Evaluation Of The First Chapter
The first chapter introduced me to the various roles within OT. This includes activities that are
meaningful to a client. So, not only is OT helping with a problem, such as a broken wrist, but it also
helps break that down into different aspects that are utilized to regain function through tasks. I didn t
realize how much, or the depth OT actually went, and how many occupations there were to cover. This
chapter introduced me to just how diverse the clientele are in OT, and how much creativity with a
holistic approach in activities is used to help in a client s therapeutic treatment. This chapter made me
look positively toward my future in OT, with promise of it being a rewarding journey. The second
chapter gave me a history of where OT has evolved from. I think this is an important chapter to review
to show how OT has developed over the years from people with many different backgrounds. I had no
knowledge as to where OT had developed from. These people didn t just go to school to be involved
with OT they were creating the field itself. I didn t gather that all the people were working together in
a collaborative effort to make OT a field of study. This chapter gives light to the discovery of different
approaches and methods ranging from the Arts and Crafts Movement and beginning of moral
treatment for people from all walks of life, to the progress to drugs being introduced and Acts being
adopted into law to help people who needed OT. Not only has the realization that people

The 19th Centuary Essay
In the first half of the 19th century the processes known as Industrialization and Urbanization started
to transform Europe. It affected and changed every aspect of life of every citizen of every European
nation. The notorious results of these changes were the horrible living and working conditions of the
working class, who made up the majority of the society. Great Britain was involved most profoundly
in this Industrial Revolution as it led the way in the development of railroads and factories. We find a
lot of documents from that time period describing working conditions in Britain during that era. As a
response to those changes created by Industrial Revolution many sought reforms to confront those
social problems. Karl Marx was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They complain how this new instruments of production will replace workers and leave eight thousand
hands deprived of the opportunity of getting a livelihood . According to Marx: The bourgeoisie cannot
exist without constantly revolutionizing the instruments of production, and thereby the relations of
production, and with them the whole relations of society. As we can see revolutionazing the
production was distinguishing trait of the bourgeois and of the Industrial Revolution, that had a
devastating effect on the working class as they were replaced and pushed into powerty by the
machines and new methods of production. The workers are asking for the self interest to be laid aside
and appealing to the sensible part of mankind, who are not biased by interest to pay attention to their
petition. But as we read in Communist Manifesto: The bourgeoisie left no other nexus between man
and man than naked self interest, than callous cash payment. It has drowned out the most heavenly
ecstasies of religious fervour, of chivalrous enthusiasm, of philistine sentimentalism, in the icy water
of egotistical calculation. In one word, for exploitation, veiled by religious and political illusions, it
has substituted naked, shameless, direct, brutal exploitation. Just like in Leeds Woolen Workers
Petition we saw that Merchants were not really concerned about the workers when they threw
thousands out of employ, but were rather

How Did The Great Debate Pros And Cons
The Great Debates The political debates amongst Nixon and Kennedy assume a gigantic part in TV
history, and the historical backdrop of America. It formed the way that we run our political races
today. The politics debate being aired on television enabled individuals to see the character and
activities of both candidates. During these televised debates, various viewers saw Kennedy s self
assurance and how well put together he was. But then on the other hand, Nixon had a harder time and
gave off a frightful vibe to the viewers who were watching the debated. Individuals who watched it on
TV felt Kennedy won the debate, while the individuals who tuned in to the radio felt Nixon won. This
point is important, essential, and identified with television

Compare The Difference Between A Day s Wait And Stolen Day
A Day s Wait and Stolen Day Pessimistic means to always see the worst in things or to always believe
the worst will happen. The author of A Day s Wait is Ernest Hemingway. The main character in this
story is a boy named Schatz and the story is told from Schatz s father s point of view. In the story
Schatz has the flu and he thinks he is going to die because he misunderstood the temperature
measurements of Celsius and Fahrenheit. The author of the story Stolen Day is Sherwood Anderson.
The main character is a boy who believes he has inflammatory rheumatism. He tells himself he has
this disease because he wants to go fishing instead of going to school. Both of these stories have many
similarities and differences. The stories A Day s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these differences is, in the beginning of the story, Schatz does not want his father to come into
his room because he does not want his father to become ill as well. Schatz s father insisted that he
reads to Schatz. Schatz s father stayed with Schatz and read to him for a while. In the story A Day s
Wait it says, I read aloud from Howard Pyle s Book of Pirates; but I could see he was not following
what I was reading, (Hemingway 300 301). This quote shows that Schatz s father read to Schatz even
though Schatz was not following along. On the contrary, the boy from Stolen Day wants more
attention from his mother. In the story Stolen day it says, She was pretty busy that day and hadn t paid
much attention to me. She had made me get into bed upstairs and then hadn t even come up to see how
I was, (Anderson 307). This quote shows the boy wanted more attention from his mother, because he
said his mother had not paid attention to him. Another difference between the two stories is Schatz
was truly sick while the boy was not. The doctor came to Schatz s house and gave him medicine so he
would get better. However, the boy from Stolen Day only thinks he had inflammatory rheumatism
because he wants an excuse as to why he can go fishing instead of going to school, (Anderson 307
308). There are many differences between the two stories, A Day s Wait and Stolen

Edgar Allan Poe s Annabel Lee
In a Kingdom By the Sea
The poem Annabel Lee written by Edgar Allan Poe is a poem about a strong love he had with a girl
when he was a child. Throughout the the poem Poe tells us how much he adored and loved Annabel
Lee. In the written piece it explains the love was so strong, even the angels were jealous. He puts
emotions of happiness, sorrow, and rage, but the rage is against the angels. He believes the angels
killed his Annabel Lee because they were covetous. The darkest scene in the poem is when Annabel
Lee is killed by a chilling wind. Then the darkness enhances when Poe concludes that the angels put
his love to death. The angels actions were promoted by their emotions of covetousness, however the
murder could have been avoided if they have overcame their dark impulses with ... Show more content

In stanza two it states With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven. Coveted her and me. This shows
that the angels took interest because they were feeling coveted. This means they wanted to have
something that didn t belong to them. As angels this is not a holy feeling, but a devilish feeling. So this
part is where darkness starts to take shape. Next in stanza four it tells The angels, not half so happy in
heaven,
Went envying her and me Yes! that was the reason. Then also in stanza four Poe reveals the actions of
the angels which is That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. The first part is Poe finding out that it was the angels who
commited the crime. He shows with his words that the angels are to blame for the death of Annabel
Lee. In the second part he explains how the angels killed his love by having a gust of wind come out
at night and chill Annabel Lee to death. So in finish that is how the angels emotions of covetousness
were influenced by creating a dark moment in the written

Western Front Inhumanity
In All Quiet on the Western Front, one of the themes associated with the war was the inhumanity of
mankind. The motif of animal instincts between characters showcased this abandonment of humanity.
In addition, the strong theme of nationalism throughout this time period encouraged the loss of
individuality. Lastly, men in positions of authority in the novel dehumanized soldiers by abusing their
position of power. Overall, the events of the war promoted the development of the inhumanity of
mankind through recurring animal instincts, nationalism, and power abusive men. Surviving the war
was not a matter of intelligently planned decisions, but a series of reactions triggered by primal
instincts. The animal instincts within strong soldiers inhibited ... Show more content on

For Paul and his comrades, who had sacrificed so much to participate in the war, the unfair leadership
created tension between the ranks. For example, when Paul was on leave and strolled the streets of his
hometown, a nearby Major became furious at Paul because he had missed the opportunity to salute.
This man, with the considerable power to overthrow Paul s leave, orders Paul, Twenty paces
backward, double march! Paul complied, but was infuriated and contemplated the validity and
relevance of these men. This, ruins everything (163), for Paul, as he abandoned wearing his uniform to
avoid another confrontation. It was shown that the most controlling officers were so often those
without combat experience on the front. In fact, Himmelstoss, a Corporal that trained Paul and his
company, showed fear toward the battle when he was called to participate. In Chapter Six, he was
found, pretending to be wounded. The thought of him progressing made his, lips quiver, his moustache
twitch (131 32). Pretending to represent their country, these men showed no respect for the soldiers,
resented them, and expressed the deepest inhumane actions in the name of

5 Pillars Of Islam Research Paper
1. The Five Pillars of Islam 2. The Eightfold Path B. The Five Pillars of Islam are a set of beliefs in the
Islam tradition that support building a life of meaning purpose and fulfillment. The first pillar is
Shahadah, which is the profession of faith that Muslims recite. The second pillar is Salat, which are
daily prayers. Muslims are expected to pray five times per day towards Mecca to symbolize their
devotion to Allah, which means God. The third pillar is Zakat, which is giving charity to the poor. The
fourth pillar is Sawm, in which Muslims fast during Ramadan. Ramadan is a holly month in the
Islamic calendar that Muslims are expected to fast from sun rise to sun down. The last pillar is the
Hajj, which is the pilgrimage to Mecca ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My most important take away from studying the four religions this semester about building a life of
meaning, purpose, and fulfilment is self identification. In order to live a life of meaning, purpose, and
fulfilment, the individual must be able to realize who they are as a person and only then is when an
individual start to realize how they can live a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfilment. Being able to
discover what brings you happiness, knowing your strengths and talents, and finding the unmet needs
of individuals around you guides an individual to self identification. If an individual is able to
understand what brings them happiness, it leads to a life of meaning because you have something to
look forward to. It brings a life of purpose because then you understand what your purpose is through
what makes you happy and by living a life of meaning and purpose leads a life of fulfillment. My gold
nugget can enhance my efforts to build a life of meaning, purpose, and fulfillment because as I keep
figuring out who I am as a person, what makes me happy, my strengths and talents, and helping others
it will lead me to understand what my purpose is. Once I know what my purpose is, then I can live a
meaningful life and eventually reach

Imagination And Symbolism In Finding Neverland
Trust, love, and loyalty; thrown out the door to fulfill the needs of a widowed mother and her children.
When James Barrie meets the Davie family in the park one evening, his life takes a hit in order to
bring back the imagination of a child, and his own. In the movie Finding Neverland, James Barrie, an
intelligent, open minded, play writer, pushes away the tedious people in his life that were once
important to him, in order to save his own career, and the Davie boys childhood. James Barrie comes
off as a very mysterious man within the first scenes of the movie. His dark slicked back hair and well
tailored suits give off this impression. James always seems to be dressed in formal attire. His wife,
Mary, seems to be dressed well throughout the movie as well, which tells the viewer that they are a

As James struggles to write a play that will be fancied by the critics, the conflict dwells into a much
larger picture. Society begins to think that James is cheating on his wife, and possibly molesting the
children. He remains very positive and calm, despite the wicked thoughts of his own wife, and the rest
of the community. James continues to be there for the family and does not change his aspects in the
making. James Barrie seems to symbolize the idea of imagination throughout the entire movie. When
times get tough, he quickly comes up with an idea to solve the problem. James constantly tries to get
Peter s imagination flowing and convince his mind into the idea of being a child. James is the
protagonist in this film, or hero. He constantly shows compassion and does anything in his power to
help those in need. The antagonist, or bad guy, in this film is Sylvia s unidentified illness. It
continually threatens her life throughout the majority of the movie, until it eventually takes the last
parent of the Davie boys. James tries to take Sylvia to the doctor multiple times, but she

South Carolina Dbq
The Secession of South Carolina was on December 20th, 1860. This was when the state of South
Carolina drafted the Declaration of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession of
South Carolina from the Federal Union this meant that South Carolina was repealing its ratification of
the U.S. Constitution. South Carolina did this because they felt that the federal government of the
Union was not obeying the Constitution and going against it. They believed that the states had equal
and separate control of its own state and government itself, and they could also claim slaves as their
property and the constitution says that they have the right to do whatever they want with their
property. As for the repercussions of this South Carolina ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of them was that they were the first to fall in a line of dominoes in which more and more states of
the south will open their eyes and secede from the Union. As said by WIECEK, WILLIAM M In it,
the Carolinian accused the free states of violation or half hearted enforcement of the Fugitive Slave
Acts, tolerating abolitionists agitation, and electing a presidential candidate pledged to eventual
abolition of slavery therefore South Carolina declared itself an Independent State, with full power to
levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things
which the independent states may right do (South Carolina Ordinance of Secession (1860) 1). This
quote explains to us that South Carolina seceded and left the union, for these reasons. Now, in that
time more states will see and realize that South Carolina was right and that they shouldn t be the only
ones that should leave the union but every slave state should leave the union to create the confederate
states of america. This was the beginning of the war and all there was left to do was

Vietnam Draft Essay
The Vietnam War was fought to protect against the spread of communism in Vietnam. During the
Vietnam War, many men were drafted to serve in the military, regardless of whether they wanted to or
not. The Vietnam War draft was an unnecessary form of servitude because communism in Vietnam
was not a direct threat to the United States, the draft was a fundamental violation of American
liberties, and the more privileged in society could avoid the draft.
Selective Service was the government agency that collected the names of all men 18 26 years old and
called them to serve their country (Hillstrom, Hillstrom, Sawinski 157). The Federal Government
resorted to a draft only in times of great danger. For most of its history, the United States relied on

The United States military eventually became one of low morale and deteriorating race relations. This
was contrary to the image we liked to have of our military. Young Americans found that the draft and
the war violated their moral and religious ideas (Accettola 169). In the United States, young men
should have been able to practice religion and have their own ideas without restraint. Through
deferments, exemptions, legal technicalities, and noncombat alternatives, the draft rewarded people
with money and power (Stoner and George 77). The draft was contrary to American ideals in that it
unfairly rewarded some who had more than others. The draft hurt military efficiency by substituting
motivated volunteers for unmotivated draftees. It was bad for troop morale and performance, so it
endangered the mission (Bodenner). The draft endangered the American mission in Vietnam by
lowering morale and performance, therefore endangering the United States as a

Dual threats of terrorism and natural disasters and their affected port security: Provide examples to illustrate your findings. A natural disaster is a sudden calamitous event that is the result of atmospheric and other geological imbalances that threatens the viability of the organization and is characterized by creating chaos, disruption of operations, confusion, and even death of employees (Morrison, et al 2014, p. 66). • 3. Diomedes Poetry Analysis Then, when the Achaeans start loosing, Athena and Hera harness Heras chariot and put on their armor. When they get Zeus approval to aid the Acheans, they fly to the battlefield, and Hera gives courage to the Achaean forces.Athena flies to Diomedes to remind him that she will protect him and that there should be no reason to be afraid, in fact, she criticizes him. Diomedes replies that Ares is dominating the battle resulting Athena to get into Diomedes chariot to attack Ares. With Athena s help, Diomedes spears Ares; In a panic, Ares flies away. The gods constantly intervene in the war, and to some extent, the tides of war can be measured by a gods intervention. Usually, when a god arrives, it changes the outcome on the battlefield, as soldiers will are given new courage. With Athena s help, Diomedes glory reaches its peak as he spears the god of war himself. The passage is interesting because it suggests the relationship between free will and divinity in the poem. Diomedes deemed a strong fighter, and yet he s dependent upon the gods for support. He not a free agent: instead, he needs the help of gods and goddesses. In this way, the passage reinforces why religion and divine worship are so important in the poem: without the gods maneuvering them, the characters couldn t accomplish much. Finally, the gods intervention is a reinforcement that the battle between Achaea and Troy is a battle between groups of gods in conflict. At the beginning of book four, the ... • 4. The Food On Biola University Is All Provided By Bon Appetite The food on Biola University is all provided by Bon Appetite. In the beginning, I did not know that Bon Appetite s food was Certified Humane so I decided to show support of humane treatment of animals by going on a vegetarian diet. Since I could not go off campus to buy Certified Humane groceries nor could I really afford buying healthy groceries, I decided to go vegetarian. I did the vegetarian diet for two weeks and obtained protein through nuts, beans, and peanut butter. When I was participating in the diet, I realized how common meat was a part of the dishes served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was often a central part of a dish, and meat was always served for every meal. While protein is an essential part of a healthy diet, the amount offered is more than needed. After this exercise, I am willing to consider giving up chicken or pork. I also definitely suggest going on a vegetarian diet for at least a week or two to experience what it is like. I gained a broader perspective when I did this diet and learned how vegetarians got their protein, why vegetarians did their diet, and obtained a common ground to discuss about with vegetarians or vegans. I find that a vegetarian diet is a lot easier than a vegan diet. Perhaps one should participate in a vegetarian diet for a week and then a vegan diet for another week. In addition, to fully understand the purpose of such diet and effects of such diet, one should perhaps journal their experience, note down what they would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Questions On Behavior And Behavior Purpose of Study With every misbehavior, a child is communicating their needs to an adult. The purpose of this research is to fully understand why misbehavior occurs in the classroom. Through relevant research and in class observations, this study will conclude how teachers can positively guide the class to avoid reoccurrence of misbehaviors. Understanding why the misbehavior is occurring will help avoid the situation for future occurrence. Research that is mentioned this study covers different aspects of misbehaviors including different theorists and beliefs to why misbehavior occurs in the classroom. The purpose of this study is also to observe students in a classroom environment to see how often misbehavior happens. Classroom observations will help identify misbehaviors that occur with a specific student or the whole class and how often it occurs. Different methods were used to conduct and document this observation for applicable results. MEDTHODS Participant This study was conduced in a third grade classroom, located on the east side of Anchorage. The observation was focused on the whole class with a focus on a specific child when misbehavior occurs. The classroom has twenty three students. Only one student has a personal behavior scale chart that is sent home to the parents about his classroom behavior. The scale chart is a 1 5 scale categorized in math, reading, writing, transition, specials, and intervention time. For whole class, there is a reminder consequence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As we know: Induction motor`s torque equation is the rotor resistor value and when the slip stays a very small value, then the s is also very small so it can be treat as a 0 value. is rotor induced EMF and it is in direct proportion to the voltage. Torque is in direct proportion to the s. Therefore, we know that torque T is also in direct proportion to . When we increase(decrease)the voltage supply, the torque will increase(decrease), therefore the speed increase(decrease). By changing the voltage supply we can achieve the speed control, this is the simplest way to control the speed. But not widely use in the real industry. Because: change a very large voltage but the speed only changes a little, the speed control range is too small. When the supply voltage has a sudden changing, the flux density in the motor, a sudden changing flus density will result a change in magnetic conditions of the motor. This result is not welcomed in the real condition of use. So changing the supply voltage is rarely used.[5][6] 2) Changing the stator side applied frequency The speed equation of the rotating magnetic field of induction motor is given by ... • 8. Transgender Bathrooms I was delighted to see that the people of Houston voted for common sense. Newt Gingrich had remarkable words to say after the city of Houston didn t vote in favor of the transgender bathroom law. According to Kaeley Triller, There s no way to make everyone happy about transgender bathrooms and locker rooms. So the priority ought to be finding a way to keep everyone safe. If you have a gender on your birth certificate, then that is your gender, regardless of what you want to be. Debate.org states, Biologically, there are only two options male and female. To claim that sex is fluid is insanity. This shows that you are either male or female, and there is no switching around. Transgenders should use the bathroom of the gender on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other side of the debate, people claim that it only matters about what you think of yourself. But, there is no way to prove if you are actually a transgender. NBC Washington states, D.C. police have charged a security guard at a Giant grocery store with simple assault after a transgender woman said the guard forced her out of the women s restroom. The guard was mistaken because the woman could not prove anything. She didn t know if this person was a man or a woman because it is too confusing. She didn t have a permit or a legal document saying that she was a woman. So, until you can prove that someone is legitly a transgender, they have to use the bathroom of their birth gender. Genesis 1:26 states And God created man in His image, in His likeness; male and female He created them . . . . and it was very good. Whether you believe in god or not, this proves that we were created to be male or female. We were not created to switch. Whatever created us had the best ideas for us to become successful. We were put on this earth for a reason, and that reason is not to change between genders. We can t prove if a person is a transgender, and that adds confusion, and also creates a danger of sexual assault. I decided upon this location due to its large size, alongside the fact that it is placed in a spot where most people have to pass by while walking to class. Additionally, I decided to sit outside the HUB rather than inside due to the fact that I would be exposed to more people, sounds, and smells; I would be out in the open rather than a closed setting. Almost every UCR faculty member takes pride in mentioning how diverse the UCR campus is, however, I had not truly recognized how diverse the campus is until I sat down and focused on observing other people. The biggest difference were the population size, drinks of choice, and noise level. The group of people sitting outside the HUB decreased in size from Wednesday at noon to Friday at 10 am. I deduce that this was due to the fact that maybe people were not on campus yet as they had later classes, or most were in class already. Moreover, I noticed that people were mostly drinking water during my observation period on Wednesday, whereas the overall drink of choice on Friday was coffee. I presume this shift in drink choice was due to the change in time; people enjoy drinking coffee in the mornings and/or it helps people reduce the groggy, tired feeling of waking up. The noise level was the most drastic change. The HUB and its surroundings were boisterous and lively during Wednesday at noon whereas the HUB fell a bit silent during Friday at 10 am. I consider this change drastic as the decrease in noise level was outstandingly clear almost immediately. I assume this was due to the fact that most people were still waking up and had not yet summoned all energy. With these observations, I not only improved my observational skills, however, I also realized how fortunate I am to attend a school that celebrates and encourages diversity among ... In Louis Sachar s novel, Holes, Mr.Sir thought stanley was a liar, troublemaker, and was careless, but he is actually nice, helpful, and loving. People used to think stanley wasn t very nice but now that they know him most people think he is really nice. One example that show s stanley is nice is when he took the blame of stealing the sunflower seeds when magnet was actually the one who stole it. Drug War Daniel Schifrin APCP Research Paper Period 8 Drug Policy: A Look at America s Ineffective Approach to Drugs Introduction In January 2004, senatorial candidate Barack Obama firmly opposed the twenty two year war on drugs, saying that the United States approach in the drug war has been ineffective (Debussman). Although the term, war on drugs, was originally coined by President Richard Nixon in 1971, it wasn t until Ronald Reagan announced that drugs were menacing society that it became a major policy goal to stop widespread use. Liberalizing drug reforms would be a step in the right direction for Colombia and would seriously burden the cartels (Leff). The drug war is a catalyst that has increased the profits of drug cartels. The illegal nature of narcotics limits supply, allowing the cartels to charge large sums of money for their product. Everytime the authorities fighting the drug war bust a drug deal, the supply currently available goes down, and cartels are able to charge even more for drugs. The system of criminilazation created by the drug war is actually the reason that cartels are so profitable. By driving down prices, the power of drug cartels is limited. The illegality of the drug trade directs its multi billion dollar profits go to criminal gangs. The drugs account for the bulk of the gangs income and thus their firepower ( Burn ). Legalization benefits drug producing countries by decreasing the money that cartels can use to buy firearms, 90% of which are sold to them from the United States (Ellingwood et al.). This would allow governments, rather than gangs, to govern the country. The militarization and criminalization of drugs in Latin America has led to a precipitous increase in violence, killing thousands of people and injuring many more. This is major mistake. Although they have some overlap they are all different ideologies and are not the same thing. These ideologies all have their own separate beliefs. Their terms are not interchangeable, Socialism is Socialism, not Communism. Fascism, by definition, is an authoritarian and nationalistic right wing system of government and social organization. The name comes from an Italian word, fascismo. This means bundle, political group. This would be prominent in Mussolini s Italy. • 14. Celiac Disease Research Papers Did you know that if you have celiac diease it can stun your growth? There s no cure for celiac disease but following a strict gluten free diet can help manage symptoms and promote intestinal healing. If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Over time, this reaction produces inflammation that damages the small intestine s lining and prevents absorption of some nutrients (malabsorption). When people with celiac disease eat gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye and barley), their body mounts an immune response that attacks the small intestine. Transformational Opportunities Exist to Integrate the United States Mental Health System Mental illness refers to all diagnosable mental disorders defined as health conditions that are characterized by alterations in thinking, mood or behavior (or some combination thereof) associated with distress and/or impaired functioning. (Williams Torrens, 2008, p. 221) With one in every five American adults experiencing mental illness, the resulting economic burden exceeds $300 billion per year to include approximately $100 billion in direct health care expenditures, $24 billion in disability benefits, and $193 billion in lost earnings. (Insel, 2008) This estimate is conservative as it excludes the components of incarceration, homelessness, comorbid conditions, early mortality and the incalculable costs to families that absorb much of the financial and emotional burdens of these illnesses. Despite the fact mental illness contributes over 6% to the nation s health care spending; the United States (U.S.) mental health system has historically lacked integration with physical medicine and public policy support. (Insel, 2008) The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), though not a panacea, has provided an opportunity to bolster a broken mental health system. The ACA includes a variety of provisions to effect the biggest expansion of mental health and substance abuse services in a generation. • 16. Muhammad s Influence On Islam In the year wchih followed the Revelation, Muhammad began his public preaching. The first converts include his wife Khadija, cousin Ali, other people closely related to him, and eventually more people from his own clan of Hashim. At first there was no sign of opposition against Muhammad s teaching, but as it become more widespread in Mecca, people start seeing it as a threat to the city s stability. Muhammad s message about a single, all powerful deity negates the legitimacy of the haram and its idols, puting the holy and neutral status of the site at risk. This theological clash continued to put pressure on Muhammad and his followers. However, they receive protection because of the solidity of the clan system. It had been Abu Talib, Muhammad s uncle, who united the Hashim in support of Muhammad and protected him for his Meccan opposition. In 619, both Khadija and Abu Thalib, two of Muhammad s most important protecters passed away and his opposition became even more bold and determined to pressure Muhammad. It is important to remember that the previous early success of the spread of Islam in Mecca could only be achieved because of Muhammad s allegience and close relationship with these two important Meccan figures. In other words, Muhammad s kinship paved the way for his teachings to be disemminated within the Meccan society. As Meccans become more hostile towards Muhammad, he began to look outside his native city for support. At this crucial point, Muhammad was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I didn t realize how much, or the depth OT actually went, and how many occupations there were to cover. In the story A Day s Wait it says, I read aloud from Howard Pyle s Book of Pirates; but I could see he was not following what I was reading, (Hemingway 300 301).
