Motivation Theory X And Theory
Motivation Theory X
Motivation Theory X
Foundation of today s organizations. These theories go back to the turn of the century and in some
cases are considered by the uninformed to be simply fads which come and go. As I have discovered,
these theories are rather the steps on a ladder which continually takes us higher and higher. Douglas
McGregor in his book, The Human Side of Enterprise published in 1960 has examined theories on
behavior of individuals at work, and he has formulated two models which he calls Theory X and
Theory Y. Theory X Assumptions The average human being has an inherent dislike of work and will
avoid it if he can. Because of their dislike for work, most people must be controlled and threatened

Collaborative self directed work teams can get complex projects done at faster rates than the
traditional boss worker arrangement, because the decision making process is made faster and more
effective in a team. Empowering teams to make decisions about their work also enhances satisfaction
and reduces turnover (Berger, 1998). Self directed work teams involve employees in a specific area, or
those who are working on a specific product or process. Self directed work teams can be any size, we
usually use 5 team members but normally run no more than 12 to 15 employees. The work team
makes the decisions that would normally be made by a supervisor or manager, and might interact with
the company s suppliers and customers, whether they are inside or outside the company.
In some companies, self directed work teams will also take over many of the human resource
functions as well (Cotton, 1993). Self directed work teams have also become one of the more
changing approaches to employee involvement, and has been increasing in popularity within the last
several years. Companies such as Proctor Gamble, Digital Equipment, General Mills, Federal Express
and other well known companies, are reorganizing their employees into self directed work teams. In a
recent survey, 476 Fortune 500 companies found that although only 7% of the work

The Gateway Group s Alcoholic Anonymous
For the support group observation assignment, I attended the Gateway Group s Alcoholic Anonymous
(A.A.) meeting. The Gateway Group is part of a larger organization called the Tri County Intergroup
Association of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Tri County Intergroup serves A.A. members in Franklin,
Wake, and Warren Counties and is broken down into 113 separate groups. As the preamble states, the
purpose of all A.A. group meetings are for A.A. members to share their experience strength and hope
with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from
alcoholism. There are no dues or fees for being an A.A. member, and the only requirement for
membership is to have a desire to stop drinking (). The Gateway Group ... Show more content on

The leader of the group, began the meeting with a welcome and an introduction of the visitors.
Visitors introduced themselves first and then the entire group individually introduced themselves by
stating, hello, I am (first name) and I am an alcoholic. The group would respond back, hello, (first
name). After introductions, the leader made announcements and passed around a calendar and black
binder for people to submit any additional announcements. Other members of the group then read the
Twelve Traditions and the Twelve Steps (See Appendix). Next, the Gateway Group had a short
intermission, so that the group could be split into two smaller groups, to allow more people to speak.
As we recommenced, the leader asked if anyone had anything to get off their chest, if they felt like
they needed a drink, or if they had taken a drink. There was no response, so the leader continued with
the lesson. The topic of discussion was Spiritual Progress and she began describing her spiritual
journey and how significant the first and third step were in her life. As she concluded, the floor was
then opened for others to share stories about their Spiritual Progress. People willingly shared and gave
insight on what helped them grow spiritually and physically. Whenever someone spoke, they would
introduce themselves as hello, I am (first name) and when they finished the group would say, thank
you (first name). About 10

Stolen Generation Essay
The Stolen Generation was a group of tragic people in Australian history, they are the victims of the
White Australian policy pursued by the Australian government at the beginning of the 20th century.
The apology to the Stolen Generations was the first conducted in Parliament by Kevin Rudd and it
established a path to resolving the historical injustice which was fully controlled by the government
(Reilly, 2009). This paper will reflect on my experience of the lecture from Ivan Clarke on the Stolen
Generation and identify strategies I could use when teaching the Stolen Generations to secondary
students.
Learning
I immgranted to Australia with my family when I was 15. In Year 10 History class, I knew there s a
group of people called the Stolen Genereation. We had one lesson on the Stolen Generation, learned
about the timeline and discussed some Aboriginal Heros in sports. It was a historical event for me
until I heard Ivan s story. It was a distressed time for me during the lecutre. Before 15 year old, I lived
seperatly with my parents, I can understand how it feels when a child been removed from their
parents. Upwards of 50,000 indigenous children were removed from their families. These children
were suffered great psychological trauma. They may be able to go home, but they can not return to
their childhood; they may be able to reunite with parents and loved ones again, but the time has
passed. After the lecture, I realized that they can go home again, but the

German Americans After Ww2
After the end of World War I many German Americans Living in the United States changed their way
of living. They would change the way they would speak, look and in some cases the way they would
act. This change started appearing not only at the end of the war, but also throughout World War I.
Some would go even as far as changing names to an American spelling while others would even
change the name of their business (Wüstenbecker, 2014).
German Society in the U.S.

threatened due to the growing of anti German sentiments, and many would change the ways they
would live their life in order to seem more patriotic, they would go even as far as changing their name,
stopping the use of their native language outside of home. They removed any trace of heritage and

What A Strange Genre Of Painting Still Life
Still life
What a strange genre of painting still life is: it makes people admire a copy of those things that we
sometimes do not admire originally, Blaise Pascal (famous French mathematician, writer and
philosopher).
Indeed, though at the first sight some still lives may not seem to convey great ideas to the viewers,
nevertheless these paintings tend to conceal deep meanings within. Often, only the discerning eye of
an artist can see the hidden essence of some objects in space.
Still life painting, as a distinct and independent genre of art, only began to exist in Northern Europe
(Holland, Germany,) in the 16th century since, during the Medieval Ages, art wasn t supposed to
depict anything but religious scenes from the Bible and some ... Show more content on

Bonnard was a leader of Post impressionist avant garde artists group, which was found by him and
some of his friends painters (such as Maurice Denis and Édouard Vuillard) at the school of art in Paris.
The young artists began to call themselves Les Nabis ( a prophet in Hebrew). Their art was mostly
inspired by the contemporary artists of their time, such as Paul Gauguin (attracted to the use of bright
and vivid colours), Paul Cezanne (the great Post impressionist of the 19th century) and even by
Japanese woodblock prints. Nevertheless, the art Bonnard was criticised and rejected by the
contemporary society since the public yet wasn t used to progressive modern art depicting an idea
within the scene, rather than just objects beautifully composed together and painted in a realistic
manner. Bonnard s paintings were often considered too childish and pointless by critics. Conversely,
they are now appreciated and valued by the art lovers all over the world. In his art, Bonnard always
aspired to go beyond the limitations of the contemporary art movement. He criticised the
impressionists for the imperfection of composition in their paintings and for the redundant use of pale
and predominantly tertiary colours. The features of his abstract expressionist brushwork are the

Canada, the United States and the Cold War
After the end of World War Two, the world was split into two, east and west. This marked the
beginning of an era called the Cold War. The Cold War was the most subtle war in history, but the
world came very close to a nuclear war that had the potential to inevitably wipe out mankind. The two
main opponents in this war were the Soviet Union and the United States. With Canada being the
United States neighbour to the north and close to The Soviet Union geographically, Canada allied
itself with the United States. This union cause a lot of political trauma, but it brought a lot of new
technology to Canada and helped strengthen our relationship with the United States. Therefore Canada
did ally with the United States, but at the same time Canada ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With Canada being close to the Soviets geographically, any attack made by them, whether it was a
nuclear strike or an air invasion, they would have to go near or over Canadian airspace in order to
attack. Therefore Canada and the United States reached an agreement to create an organization which
would control Aerospace in North America. This U.S Canadian organization was called NORAD (The
North American Aerospace Defence Command) and was founded on May 12, 1958 . This organization
would detect man made objects coming into North American airspace, such as Soviet bombers or
nuclear warheads. This organization uses aircraft to protect North America from attack. While
NORAD would control the skies of North America, it would also monitor the Maritime regions as
well. Previous to the establishment of this organization, Canada and the United States also agreed to a
long series of radar stations in the Canadian arctic. Known as the DEW line (Distant Early Warning),
these radar stations would be used to detect Soviet aircraft coming into North American Airspace. In
addition to this DEW Line, which stretched from Alaska to Greenland, Canada also had two more
lines of radar stations called The Mid Canada Line , and The Pine Tree Line . These radar stations
were constructed during the Cold War Era to protect North America from potential Soviet invasion,
though the radar lines became obsolete with the invention of Intercontinental ballistic missiles

How Social Workers Within Hospice
Social work is recognized as a helping profession, by attempting to improve a better quality of life and
accessing the needs of clients. However, when addressing the needs of client, over time can cause a
great deal of stress on a social worker, which leads to burnout. In the social work field, particularly
hospice, social workers work in a high loss environment which can also contribute to burnout and
their own death anxiety issues. In this research proposal, we will investigate how social workers
within hospice face burnout and how it is relates to death anxiety.
The purpose of hospice is to provide the best quality life and end of life care for individuals with a
chronic illness. Engaging in hospice social work is both a rewarding and challenging (Quinn Lee,
Olson McBride, Unterberger, 2014). Individuals often choose to become hospice social workers for a
variety of reasons including a sense of purpose and commitment based on personal experiences with
death and grief; disenchantment towards dying in a hospital setting and a desire to focus on the quality
of life versus the quantity of life (Quinn Lee, Olson McBride, Unterberger, 2014). Rewards associated
with hospice work include working with an interdisciplinary setting, the opportunity to implement
hospice philosophies, and the opportunity to share transcendent experiences with clients and their
families (Quinn Lee, Olson McBride, Unterberger, 2014).
This paper will summarize a study conduct between social

1953 Waco Tornado
Since the beginning of time there have been countless weather disasters, which include hurricanes,
floods and tornadoes. Comparable to other natural disasters, there is a great deal of severe damage to
properties, businesses and unfortunately loss of life. There were a total of 422 tornadoes throughout
the country in 1953. Texas has endured a multitude of disastrous storms; however on May 11, 1953
there was a particular storm that forever transformed a city called Waco, Texas known as 1953 Waco
Tornado.
In 1953, the Waco tornado was part of a tornado outbreak sequence with a series of at least 33
tornadoes occurring in 10 different U.S. between May 9 11, 1953. According to the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) a research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

at any time. Ultimately, the twister caused an estimated loss of $41 million by destroying over 600
businesses, 850 homes and 2,000 cars (Sawyer Amanda 1); that is about $363 million dollars in 2016
dollars. Being prepared for a natural disaster such as this, could possibly have led to fewer casualties.
If the community of Waco wouldn t have ignored the warning signs I m certain more lives would have
been saved. When tragedy struck, the city of Waco came together and supported each other during this
disastrous time, which showed courage. There were many heroic people on that fateful day, and there
also many who lost their lives. Many people believe the tornado was the cause of the way Waco s
downtown area is today, because it never totally recovered. Although, this was a horrific natural
disaster, something valuable came out of it. The Waco Tornado of 1953 was a major turning point on
how we view and track tornados today. Fortunately, with the use of technology, we are able to track
tornadoes. Meteorologist identifies and understands the basic ingredients to be able to forecast a

The Aboriginal People
Our group was focus on the distinctive culture of the aboriginal people. The Aboriginal culture is a
precious humane heritage of entire Canada, and plays an irreplaceable role in the contemporary
culture of Canada. The main purpose of Aboriginal education is to pass on the unique cultural
elements.
When European colonists first came to North America, the Aboriginal culture was falsely believed as
barbaric and savage, and the so called civilized people thought that they need to take over Aboriginal
children s education. In J. R. Miller (1996) s book Shingwauk s Vision: A History of Native
Residential Schools, Miller states that When European missionaries began to live among Aboriginal
people it was concluded that as soon as they could separate children from their parents the sooner they
could prepare Aboriginal people to live a civilized life . In short, the non Aboriginal missionaries
thought that the Aboriginal culture was not worth preserving. However, this perception is very
incorrect, because the Aboriginal culture represents survival of the mental, spiritual, emotional and
physical well being of each Aboriginal individual.
A nation without its own cultural is just an outer form with no identity, so our presentation wants to
digger deeper into the Aboriginal culture, in order to find a more effective way to shape our current
Aboriginal education system. We did a thoroughly research about the contemporary Aboriginal
culture, including photography, painting, sculpture,

Dr Caligari Close Up
The silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), is a German expressionist film. The film illustrates
subjectivity, an askew world and expression through its sets, costumes, shots, editing, and acting. Film
theorist Mungsterberg s main idea is that the film overcomes reality through manipulation and
transformation of space, time, and causality. In addition, Mungsterberg emphasizes that the form of
the film should match the content to create unity. Similarly, theorist Balazs main point is how close up
s help transform reality in relation to quality and expression. He highlights the importance of how
close ups reveal the most visual details of life, which portray emotion, mood, intentions, and thoughts.

Caligari would be that the film transforms reality due to the amount of close up s used to evoke
emotion, mood, intentions, and thoughts. Balazs states that The close ups of the film are the creative
instruments of this might visual anthropomorphism (Balazs 119). Balazs basically explains how the
close up gives the viewer a new perspective of reality through the close up. Plus, the close up shows
us things we cannot see like: human characteristics, behaviors and objects in detail to demonstrate
power and emotion. For example, in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari when Cesare tells Alan that he is only
going to live until dawn there is a close up of Alan s face showing extreme terror. This creates an
emphasis on human emotions and behaviors which helps the viewer relate and possibly identify with
the character. Also the close up in this example helps the audience understand the dramatic scene that
is unfolding through the expression of the character. To sum up, Balazs would agree that The Cabinet
of Dr. Caligari transforms reality through the use of close ups by illustrating emotions and behaviors
that the viewer cannot see through a medium or wide

The Control Over Chemical Reactions
The control over chemical reactions is of greatest interest since early times. The four basic well known
variables that are capable of controlling chemical reactions are temperature, pressure, concentration
and contact time.1 Therefore in 19th and early 20th century s high temperatures and pressures were
employed in order to achieve reasonable production rates in most industrial reaction processes.
Unfortunately these harsh conditions were associated with several disadvantages and problems.
Because they are energy intensive, corrosive or otherwise damaging to equipment and materials and
nonselective results leading to undesirable side reactions and side products.1 Sudden breakthrough
occurred with emergence of catalysis which is a phenomenon where chemical reactions are
accelerated by small quantities of extraneous substances referred to as catalysts.2
The term catalysis was first proposed by Jons Jakob Berzelius1, 2 in 1835comes from the Greek
words kata meaning down and lyein meaning loosen. However some of the catalytic reactions such as
production of alcohol from sugar by fermentation is known and practiced long before. Besides
Berzelius, many others also devoted their work for catalysis in different aspects. Fundamental work
carried out by Ostwald 2was recognized with the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1909 where he defined
catalysis as acceleration of chemical reactions by the presence of foreign substances which are not
consumed.
Basically catalytic reactions are

The Effects Of Russian Culture On Military Operations
The Effects of Russian Culture on Military Operations in That Region
Introduction
Understanding a country s culture as it pertains to military operations is highly important in the
modern era. Dictionary.com defines culture as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular
social, ethnic, or age group . There are many examples throughout history that show the negative
consequences of ignoring or misunderstanding the cultures of other countries. The most recent
example is our long sustained operations in the Middle East. We have operated in the Middle East for
the better part of two and a half decades. Through our own successes and failures, it is obvious how
important cultural awareness can be. The mistakes we have made have created more animosity
towards our military and our country in general. Over the last decade, our government has worked
continuously to understand and teach those lessons to our service members. Through those efforts, we
have been able to win over many of the hearts and minds that we lost during the early part of the 1990
s and 2000 s. Continuing these practices in the future, with countries such as Russia, will allow us to
overcome many of the mistakes and problems we have encountered in the past.
This paper is the culmination of my own personal thoughts and in no way reflects any official views
or opinions of the United States government. As you move from topic to topic, I hope you begin to

Graphene Structure, Physical Properties, And Fabrication...
1.3 Graphene structure, physical properties, and fabrication methods
1.3.1 Graphene structure
In 2004, two scientists prepared the graphene, a single planar layer of graphite, which has a double
carbon atoms bonds. Each carbon atom joins itself with three atoms by strong σ covalent bonds, the
strong carbon carbon bonding granted graphene a rigid structure. With four valence electrons, each
carbon atom can contribute one unbounded electron to form π bonds above the plane of the carbon
sheet. Graphene layers arrange as hexagons and every hexagon is completely surrounded by other
hexagons that are packed in a honeycomb crystal lattice as shown in Figure ‎
1 3. Their thickness is
about one atom thick [6] and their bond length in the range of 0.142nm[7][8]. Thus, in 1 mm thick
graphite, there are about 3 million graphene sheets[9]. The 2010 Nobel Prize in physics has been
awarded to the two scientists: Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov from University of Manchester
(UK) for their research in graphene discovery. Also, the surface area of the single sheet is 2630 m2/g
[10].
This sheet is the most interesting form of carbon allotropes which promises to be a super material due

Adam And Eve, The Flood, Abraham And Esau
Human Situation Lecture Paper Rough Draft Although God makes seemingly unfair choices in the
cases of Adam and Eve, the flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Jacob and Esau, these unfair decisions are
still justified because they serve God s greater purpose of creating the Israelites. God s first decision
that is unfair but still just was his judgement of Adam and Eve. Although Eve was the first to eat from
the tree of knowledge, when she gave some to [Adam] she neither persuades or forces him to eat as
well. He actively made a decision to eat the fruit even though God gave him the direct message not to
eat of [the tree] or touch of it (3.3). This would indicate that Adam is at least somewhat responsible for
his own part in disobeying God. Even though Adam does deserve some punishment, he decides to
shift all of the blame onto Eve who then shifts all of her blame onto the serpent. It is unfair that the
serpent is unable to defend himself at all but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God flooded the Earth because it had become corrupt [and] filled with lawlessness (6.11). He used this
flood as a tool for starting over because he regretted that He had made man on earth (6.6). God s first
covenant with man after the flood shows that the flood served a larger purpose of creating a more
conscientious mankind. God states as part of his first covenant that [he] will require a reckoning for
human life the word reckoning implies the God wants all humans to value each other s lives.
Additionally, God states whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed (9.6)
meaning, if one person harms another then they themselves will be killed in retribution. This
exemplifies God establishing the rules for a better and more just world after the

Recitatif Toni Morrison Summary
It is the expectation of this paper to take a gander at Toni Morrison as an author and how she
communicated her political perspectives through fiction. The short story by Ms. Morrison Recitatif ,
written in 1983. She has turned into the voice for the Black American experience. Recitatif is the
narrative of two ladies one dark and one white. From the earliest starting point of the story the peruser
can get on racial pieces of information and arrive at this conclusion. The one thing precluded in this
story is which one white and which one is dark. This where the peruser s own particular racial biases
may come in. On page 210, it states we looked like salt and pepper standing their and that is the thing
that alternate children called us once in a while (Mays p. 210) Although this isn t the principal piece of
information this the most clear intimation to the race of the two young ladies. The creator forgets the
racial character of the two young ladies. She is testing the peruser to take after her intimations all
through the story. The peruser s own racial predispositions may impact which young lady they was

Roberta, who does not need her youngster dispatched crosswise over town to go to an unexpected

The Negative Impacts Of Television Violence And Its...
Over the past few centuries, people have seen an extreme transition from letters and telegrams to cell
phones and flat screen TVs. These advancements have allowed people to connect, communicate more
efficiently, and access a wide range of information that previous generations would not have dreamed
of viewing. By the end of the next decade, the world s technological abilities are expected to be one

further ingrained in people s daily lives ( The Emerging Future Is ... ). However, the impacts of the
flourishing technology industry is not completely positive. As the United States becomes more reliant
on technology, a new type of bullying cyber bullying has risen, and video programs have allowed
more realistic violence to develop on television. Technological advancement, electronic aggression,
and the surge in violence portrayed on TV spur an increase in national crime rates and conflict in

Television programming in the United States is considered the most violent in advanced industrialized
nations. Nearly two thirds of all television programming contains violence. Dramas include realistic
stories about crime, psychotic murderers, police cases, emergency services, internationalism, and war.
As people view these shows, they themselves become more susceptible to commit violent actions

respect for them after reading how much time and effort they have to work in order to run a successful
business.
The Facts and Traits of a CFO
How CFO s came to be
For some reason, business in the early 1900 s didn t seem to care about their finances and record
keeping nearly as much as we do today. People didn t start realizing this until around the 1960 s.
Before the Chief Financial Officer was even thought about, most companies had a Financial Manager .
They kept track of the financial records and handled the taxes but that was about it.
In the 1970 s, the SEC and the FASB were considering making accounting and financing regulations
more important in the business

Oppression of Women in 19th Century Literature
In the stories The Jewelry by Guy de Maupassant, The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, and The
Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the female characters are unequal and less important
than the men in society. The duties of women during this time period did not consist of much more
than seeing to her husband s needs and caring for the home and children. The authors show the lack of
independence women were allowed in the 1800s, especially in marriage. The stories express women s
cry for equality and their feelings of entrapment in their marriage. Each story elaborates on the
importance of social class in the 19th century, how women were presented in society, and how society

In the midst of her grieving, Mrs. Mallard pictures the time that is to come, when she will be able to
make all of her own decisions and will be given the freedom to live her life as she pleases. Suddenly,
she feels relieved more than she is upset. She knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind,
tender hands folded in death...but she saw beyond that bitter moment a long procession of years to
come that would belong to her absolutely (Booth 307). Her desire for freedom overcame the despair of
her husband s death. Chopin includes that Mrs. Mallard tried to fight off these ideas with her will
(Booth 307). Her embraced feelings of independence could have been viewed as forbidden. Although
she is excited by these thoughts, she tries to resist the pleasure she truly feels when she realizes the
freedom that she has gained. The words free, free, free! escaped from her mouth (Booth307). She
attempted to hold back the overwhelming desires for her own life. Perhaps she is hesitant to welcome
these feelings because of the public view on women s rights, and the potential consequences for those
who opposed such views. Despite the faithfulness and love Mrs. Mallard showed for her husband, the
extreme relief she felt in no longer having a marital obligation overpowered her feelings of sadness
and loss. At the end of the story, Mrs. Mallard s husband walked through her front door in the flesh,
but Mrs. Mallard s heart could not handle the excitement. The

Comparing Buddha And Ashoka, Pillar Edicts

First Sermon at Benares and Ashoka, Pillar Edicts . Though it seems that the edicts were more useful
as a social contract, rather than a path to enlightenment, the influence of Buddhism is unmistakable.
The Buddha would agree with Ashoka s policies and beliefs because both are ways one can use to
reach further self enlightenment and continue further on the path to Nirvana. Bearing his edicts, which
provided a framework like the teachings of Buddha, the pillars cover moral, religious and social ideas
to help elevate his people to a better life. I have started to have Dhamma edicts written for the welfare

Henry David Thoreau Analysis
Henry David Thoreau, a nineteenth century writer, philosopher, and abolitionist, establishes himself as
an outsider, a passionate rebel against the status quo, in a passage from Walden. He writes to explain
why he went into the woods to live and left behind what most people would consider civilization.
Especially for an audience of contemporaries in the 1850s, before the Civil War, his choice to live in
the woods would have been outrageous even revolutionary. Even today, his choice to live in a small
cabin in the woods would be considered counter to the status quo, so the modern audience is also
intrigued by his explanation. His language and method of presenting his ideas create an argument
between civilization and real life, and it is clear that he values real life in the woods over what most
people would consider civilization. He pits civilization against life throughout, though he hides the
reference to civilization behind a contrast to life in the words not life, and he suggests that living in
civilization would be a resignation. He counters this with many references to life (nouns) and live and
living (verbs), such as to live deliberately, facts of life, I had not lived, wish to live, not life, living is
so dear, live deep, marrow of life, to live so sturdily. The paragraph is bursting with life references,
and we immediately discern the urgency of his desire. We learn the temperament of the man through
this intensity. The contrast between life and not life is

Why I Should Be A Teacher
I want to be a teacher to continue to serve. I have served twenty years as officer in the United States
Army and I want to continue to serve others in a different capacity. Through my time in service and
later as member of the civilian work force I have seen the struggles of workers and employers as they
struggle to find sustainable matches. One of the answers to this struggle a is better prepared work
force. However, there are segments of our country that have been systematically left out, and I want to
address that.
I grew up in Seattle during the de segregation, and it was normal for me to be the only black kid in my
class. As society around me came to grips with the change in the city, I had to go to school. I could
wait for programs and understanding to take hold and remove the old ways. I was labeled one of those
kids , a disruptive child in the class, until at the behest of my parents and school administrators, I was
tested. The test show I was not challenged by the normal material which lead to the behavior and soon
I was challenged.
However, my story doesn t end there. I still had to face the challenges that our current disadvantage
students face and there was a time where my future was in question. However, by the grace of a few
dedicated teachers, I was able to overcome my obstacles and find some success in the classroom,
because of that I want to pay it forward to the next generation. Because of the efforts of so many, I
have gone on to earn my

In the mid 1850s, Métis petitioned the Imperial Government in London through Red River born
lawyer Alexander Kennedy Isbister to limit the Council of Assiniboia s power. On the ground, the
Council rarely commanded enough of a constabulary to compel Métis to follow its laws, so the
Council was often forced to compromise with the community to ensure the enforcement of its laws.
Other events overshadowed Métis Company disputes in the 1860s: the intensifying eastern interest in
developing the West and Confederation in 1867. In 1869 the Dominion of Canada and the Hudson

Arguably, medicinal marijuana has proven to be most effective for the relief of nausea and anorexia
associated with cancer and AIDS/HIV treatments. For cancer patients who not only go through the

Not only has marijuana proven its therapeutic value for cancer and HIV/AIDS patients, but it has also

her and Chris Hemsworth earned $10 million. Because of what happened with American Hustle, to be

  • 2. Motivation Theory X And Theory Motivation Theory X Motivation Theory X Foundation of today s organizations. These theories go back to the turn of the century and in some cases are considered by the uninformed to be simply fads which come and go. As I have discovered, these theories are rather the steps on a ladder which continually takes us higher and higher. Douglas McGregor in his book, The Human Side of Enterprise published in 1960 has examined theories on behavior of individuals at work, and he has formulated two models which he calls Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X Assumptions The average human being has an inherent dislike of work and will avoid it if he can. Because of their dislike for work, most people must be controlled and threatened before they will work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collaborative self directed work teams can get complex projects done at faster rates than the traditional boss worker arrangement, because the decision making process is made faster and more effective in a team. Empowering teams to make decisions about their work also enhances satisfaction and reduces turnover (Berger, 1998). Self directed work teams involve employees in a specific area, or those who are working on a specific product or process. Self directed work teams can be any size, we usually use 5 team members but normally run no more than 12 to 15 employees. The work team makes the decisions that would normally be made by a supervisor or manager, and might interact with the company s suppliers and customers, whether they are inside or outside the company. In some companies, self directed work teams will also take over many of the human resource functions as well (Cotton, 1993). Self directed work teams have also become one of the more changing approaches to employee involvement, and has been increasing in popularity within the last several years. Companies such as Proctor Gamble, Digital Equipment, General Mills, Federal Express and other well known companies, are reorganizing their employees into self directed work teams. In a recent survey, 476 Fortune 500 companies found that although only 7% of the work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Tri County Intergroup serves A.A. members in Franklin, Wake, and Warren Counties and is broken down into 113 separate groups. The leader of the group, began the meeting with a welcome and an introduction of the visitors. Visitors introduced themselves first and then the entire group individually introduced themselves by stating, hello, I am (first name) and I am an alcoholic. The group would respond back, hello, (first name). After introductions, the leader made announcements and passed around a calendar and black binder for people to submit any additional announcements. Other members of the group then read the Twelve Traditions and the Twelve Steps (See Appendix). Next, the Gateway Group had a short intermission, so that the group could be split into two smaller groups, to allow more people to speak. As we recommenced, the leader asked if anyone had anything to get off their chest, if they felt like they needed a drink, or if they had taken a drink. There was no response, so the leader continued with the lesson. The topic of discussion was Spiritual Progress and she began describing her spiritual journey and how significant the first and third step were in her life. As she concluded, the floor was then opened for others to share stories about their Spiritual Progress. People willingly shared and gave insight on what helped them grow spiritually and physically. Whenever someone spoke, they would introduce themselves as hello, I am (first name) and when they finished the group would say, thank you (first name). About 10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stolen Generation Essay The Stolen Generation was a group of tragic people in Australian history, they are the victims of the White Australian policy pursued by the Australian government at the beginning of the 20th century. The apology to the Stolen Generations was the first conducted in Parliament by Kevin Rudd and it established a path to resolving the historical injustice which was fully controlled by the government (Reilly, 2009). This paper will reflect on my experience of the lecture from Ivan Clarke on the Stolen Generation and identify strategies I could use when teaching the Stolen Generations to secondary students. Learning I immgranted to Australia with my family when I was 15. In Year 10 History class, I knew there s a group of people called the Stolen Genereation. We had one lesson on the Stolen Generation, learned about the timeline and discussed some Aboriginal Heros in sports. It was a historical event for me until I heard Ivan s story. It was a distressed time for me during the lecutre. Before 15 year old, I lived seperatly with my parents, I can understand how it feels when a child been removed from their parents. Upwards of 50,000 indigenous children were removed from their families. These children were suffered great psychological trauma. They may be able to go home, but they can not return to their childhood; they may be able to reunite with parents and loved ones again, but the time has passed. What A Strange Genre Of Painting Still Life Still life What a strange genre of painting still life is: it makes people admire a copy of those things that we sometimes do not admire originally, Blaise Pascal (famous French mathematician, writer and philosopher). Indeed, though at the first sight some still lives may not seem to convey great ideas to the viewers, nevertheless these paintings tend to conceal deep meanings within. Often, only the discerning eye of an artist can see the hidden essence of some objects in space. Still life painting, as a distinct and independent genre of art, only began to exist in Northern Europe (Holland, Germany,) in the 16th century since, during the Medieval Ages, art wasn t supposed to depict anything but religious scenes from the Bible and some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bonnard was a leader of Post impressionist avant garde artists group, which was found by him and some of his friends painters (such as Maurice Denis and Édouard Vuillard) at the school of art in Paris. The young artists began to call themselves Les Nabis ( a prophet in Hebrew). Their art was mostly inspired by the contemporary artists of their time, such as Paul Gauguin (attracted to the use of bright and vivid colours), Paul Cezanne (the great Post impressionist of the 19th century) and even by Japanese woodblock prints. Nevertheless, the art Bonnard was criticised and rejected by the contemporary society since the public yet wasn t used to progressive modern art depicting an idea within the scene, rather than just objects beautifully composed together and painted in a realistic manner. Bonnard s paintings were often considered too childish and pointless by critics. Conversely, they are now appreciated and valued by the art lovers all over the world. In his art, Bonnard always aspired to go beyond the limitations of the contemporary art movement. He criticised the impressionists for the imperfection of composition in their paintings and for the redundant use of pale and predominantly tertiary colours. The Cold War was the most subtle war in history, but the world came very close to a nuclear war that had the potential to inevitably wipe out mankind. The two main opponents in this war were the Soviet Union and the United States. With Canada being the United States neighbour to the north and close to The Soviet Union geographically, Canada allied itself with the United States. With Canada being close to the Soviets geographically, any attack made by them, whether it was a nuclear strike or an air invasion, they would have to go near or over Canadian airspace in order to attack. Therefore Canada and the United States reached an agreement to create an organization which would control Aerospace in North America. This U.S Canadian organization was called NORAD (The North American Aerospace Defence Command) and was founded on May 12, 1958 . This organization would detect man made objects coming into North American airspace, such as Soviet bombers or nuclear warheads. This organization uses aircraft to protect North America from attack. While NORAD would control the skies of North America, it would also monitor the Maritime regions as well. Previous to the establishment of this organization, Canada and the United States also agreed to a long series of radar stations in the Canadian arctic. Known as the DEW line (Distant Early Warning), these radar stations would be used to detect Soviet aircraft coming into North American Airspace. In addition to this DEW Line, which stretched from Alaska to Greenland, Canada also had two more lines of radar stations called The Mid Canada Line , and The Pine Tree Line . However, when addressing the needs of client, over time can cause a great deal of stress on a social worker, which leads to burnout. In the social work field, particularly hospice, social workers work in a high loss environment which can also contribute to burnout and their own death anxiety issues. In this research proposal, we will investigate how social workers within hospice face burnout and how it is relates to death anxiety. The purpose of hospice is to provide the best quality life and end of life care for individuals with a chronic illness. Engaging in hospice social work is both a rewarding and challenging (Quinn Lee, Olson McBride, Unterberger, 2014). Individuals often choose to become hospice social workers for a variety of reasons including a sense of purpose and commitment based on personal experiences with death and grief; disenchantment towards dying in a hospital setting and a desire to focus on the quality of life versus the quantity of life (Quinn Lee, Olson McBride, Unterberger, 2014). Rewards associated with hospice work include working with an interdisciplinary setting, the opportunity to implement hospice philosophies, and the opportunity to share transcendent experiences with clients and their families (Quinn Lee, Olson McBride, Unterberger, 2014). If the community of Waco wouldn t have ignored the warning signs I m certain more lives would have been saved. When tragedy struck, the city of Waco came together and supported each other during this disastrous time, which showed courage. There were many heroic people on that fateful day, and there also many who lost their lives. Many people believe the tornado was the cause of the way Waco s downtown area is today, because it never totally recovered. Although, this was a horrific natural disaster, something valuable came out of it. The Waco Tornado of 1953 was a major turning point on how we view and track tornados today. Fortunately, with the use of technology, we are able to track tornadoes. Meteorologist identifies and understands the basic ingredients to be able to forecast a tornado. The Aboriginal culture is a precious humane heritage of entire Canada, and plays an irreplaceable role in the contemporary culture of Canada. The main purpose of Aboriginal education is to pass on the unique cultural elements. When European colonists first came to North America, the Aboriginal culture was falsely believed as barbaric and savage, and the so called civilized people thought that they need to take over Aboriginal children s education. In J. R. Miller (1996) s book Shingwauk s Vision: A History of Native Residential Schools, Miller states that When European missionaries began to live among Aboriginal people it was concluded that as soon as they could separate children from their parents the sooner they could prepare Aboriginal people to live a civilized life . In short, the non Aboriginal missionaries thought that the Aboriginal culture was not worth preserving. However, this perception is very incorrect, because the Aboriginal culture represents survival of the mental, spiritual, emotional and physical well being of each Aboriginal individual. A nation without its own cultural is just an outer form with no identity, so our presentation wants to digger deeper into the Aboriginal culture, in order to find a more effective way to shape our current Aboriginal education system. The film illustrates subjectivity, an askew world and expression through its sets, costumes, shots, editing, and acting. Film theorist Mungsterberg s main idea is that the film overcomes reality through manipulation and transformation of space, time, and causality. In addition, Mungsterberg emphasizes that the form of the film should match the content to create unity. Similarly, theorist Balazs main point is how close up s help transform reality in relation to quality and expression. Caligari would be that the film transforms reality due to the amount of close up s used to evoke emotion, mood, intentions, and thoughts. Balazs states that The close ups of the film are the creative instruments of this might visual anthropomorphism (Balazs 119). Balazs basically explains how the close up gives the viewer a new perspective of reality through the close up. Plus, the close up shows us things we cannot see like: human characteristics, behaviors and objects in detail to demonstrate power and emotion. For example, in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari when Cesare tells Alan that he is only going to live until dawn there is a close up of Alan s face showing extreme terror. This creates an emphasis on human emotions and behaviors which helps the viewer relate and possibly identify with the character. Also the close up in this example helps the audience understand the dramatic scene that is unfolding through the expression of the character. To sum up, Balazs would agree that The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari transforms reality through the use of close ups by illustrating emotions and behaviors that the viewer cannot see through a medium or wide ... • 17. The Control Over Chemical Reactions The control over chemical reactions is of greatest interest since early times. The four basic well known variables that are capable of controlling chemical reactions are temperature, pressure, concentration and contact time.1 Therefore in 19th and early 20th century s high temperatures and pressures were employed in order to achieve reasonable production rates in most industrial reaction processes. Unfortunately these harsh conditions were associated with several disadvantages and problems. Because they are energy intensive, corrosive or otherwise damaging to equipment and materials and nonselective results leading to undesirable side reactions and side products.1 Sudden breakthrough occurred with emergence of catalysis which is a phenomenon where chemical reactions are accelerated by small quantities of extraneous substances referred to as catalysts.2 The term catalysis was first proposed by Jons Jakob Berzelius1, 2 in 1835comes from the Greek words kata meaning down and lyein meaning loosen. However some of the catalytic reactions such as production of alcohol from sugar by fermentation is known and practiced long before. Besides Berzelius, many others also devoted their work for catalysis in different aspects. Fundamental work carried out by Ostwald 2was recognized with the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1909 where he defined catalysis as acceleration of chemical reactions by the presence of foreign substances which are not consumed. The Effects Of Russian Culture On Military Operations The Effects of Russian Culture on Military Operations in That Region Introduction Understanding a country s culture as it pertains to military operations is highly important in the modern era. Dictionary.com defines culture as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group . There are many examples throughout history that show the negative consequences of ignoring or misunderstanding the cultures of other countries. The most recent example is our long sustained operations in the Middle East. We have operated in the Middle East for the better part of two and a half decades. Through our own successes and failures, it is obvious how important cultural awareness can be. The mistakes we have made have created more animosity towards our military and our country in general. Over the last decade, our government has worked continuously to understand and teach those lessons to our service members. Through those efforts, we have been able to win over many of the hearts and minds that we lost during the early part of the 1990 s and 2000 s. Continuing these practices in the future, with countries such as Russia, will allow us to overcome many of the mistakes and problems we have encountered in the past. This paper is the culmination of my own personal thoughts and in no way reflects any official views or opinions of the United States government. Henry David Thoreau Analysis Henry David Thoreau, a nineteenth century writer, philosopher, and abolitionist, establishes himself as an outsider, a passionate rebel against the status quo, in a passage from Walden. He writes to explain why he went into the woods to live and left behind what most people would consider civilization. Especially for an audience of contemporaries in the 1850s, before the Civil War, his choice to live in the woods would have been outrageous even revolutionary. Even today, his choice to live in a small cabin in the woods would be considered counter to the status quo, so the modern audience is also intrigued by his explanation. His language and method of presenting his ideas create an argument between civilization and real life, and it is clear that he values real life in the woods over what most people would consider civilization. He pits civilization against life throughout, though he hides the reference to civilization behind a contrast to life in the words not life, and he suggests that living in civilization would be a resignation. He counters this with many references to life (nouns) and live and living (verbs), such as to live deliberately, facts of life, I had not lived, wish to live, not life, living is so dear, live deep, marrow of life, to live so sturdily. GORD normally occurs because of the ring of muscle at the bottom of the oesophagus weakening2. The most common symptoms of GORD include heartburn and regurgitation. In this clinical trial, participants have non erosive GORD, which does not have any visible oesophageal injury1, however non erosive GORD can progress to erosive disease in susceptible patients3. Recommended treatment for non erosive GORD is stated as offering patients a full dose proton pump inhibitor (PPI) for 4 or 8 weeks4. NICE states that if symptoms recur after the initial treatment, offer a PPI at the lowest dose possible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this trial, patients will be assigned at random to one of the two groups, with a 1:1 ratio5. The participants will be taking one capsule at the same time everyday throughout the 4 weeks, and will be asked to record any time they experience heartburn symptoms into an e diary. This study will be conducted in China, with the overall participation time being 11 weeks5. Participants will make 4 visits to the health clinic, and will also be contacted by phone 5 10 days after their last dosage for a follow up assessment. To be enrolled onto this clinical trial, patients must be able to identify their main symptom as a burning feeling in the mid epigastric area and/or chest area and they must have had a history of GORD for 6 months or longer prior to Screening with GORD symptoms that were responsive to acid suppressive therapy5. Furthermore, they must have episodes of heartburn for 4 or more days during the 7 days prior to Day 1, as recorded in their diary. This clinical trial is a randomised, placebo controlled as well as being a double blind study, which reduces the likelihood of prescriber bias. There are no ethical issues involved with this trial, as participants must be aged over 18, and there is a large sample size of 200 participants, which increases the significance and reliability of the results. In my opinion, there could have been a larger sample size, as compared to this study, another trial evaluating the efficacy of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Women s Role In Big-Budget Films Amanda Seyfried once said, A few years ago, on one of my big budget films, I found I was being paid 10 percent of what my male co star was getting, and we were pretty even in status When negotiating pay, if a woman stands up for what they want, they ll come across as bratty and risk losing their part but when a man does it they re considered fierce. In 2015 Jennifer Lawrence earned $52 million, making her the highest paid actress in the world. Robert Downey Jr., the highest paid actor, made $80 million that same year. After the Sony Hack, Jennifer Lawrence wrote an essay for Lenny Letter an online feminist newsletter. A group known as the Guardians of Peace hacked Sony and leaked confidential information. Specifically, the hack revealed the pay of the stars of American Hustle. Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner each earned 9% of the film s profits while Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams both earned 7%. The difference may not seem like much but why were only the women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By doing this, it won t make a difference for an actor or actress to make a powerful deal. If an actress wants to fight for equal pay then she should be able to without losing a role or being called a spoiled brat. Charlize Theron fought and received equal pay for the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman. Both her and Chris Hemsworth earned $10 million. Because of what happened with American Hustle, to be symbolic, Jennifer Lawrence negotiated for $20 million in Passengers while Chris Pratt earned $12 million. There are still many more negotiations to come. A world with more powerful women in the media industry who are unafraid to negotiate well is the kind of world we need to live in. The Hollywood pay gap is just a fraction of the gender inequality issues we face today. If we can change the way we think about actresses, the difference in pay won t be one of those issues. This would be a huge step in the right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Adversity In Workplace up where they left off the year before, winning many games early in the year. Once the playoffs came a thunderbolt hit as well. A thunderbolt is something that is beyond our control, a phenomenon that one day strikes your team/business. The thunderbolt that hindered the Lakers was the injury bug. The Lakers lost their Rookie of the Year James Worthy, the defensive anchor Bob McAdoo, and their lights out shooter Norm Nixon. After losing three key role players, it is easy for a team to feel sympathetic in the midst of a title run. But sympathy is the junk food of the soul, it contains nothing uplifting and ultimately is a negative emotion. A winning team prepares itself for the adversity it is certain to encounter along the way to success. Adversity should almost be welcomed because it forces the team to remain uncomfortable, which is when the most growth is seen. It is the combination of hardiness and ability to grasp context ... When the core begins to crack do not try to stop the break up, but instead take the lessons learnt in the past as the basis for the future. Smart teams realize that security is always imaginary, people come and go, and you must always be prepared. Management should always be arranging new talent into developing young leaders to replace veterans. This is the key to remaining relevant in both the business and sports world. Although the team may change, the spirit of the team will last. The achievement of the old team shall be treated as an inspirational catalyst for the future. The ladder of team evolution is a rocky one, but it may look something like: from nobody to upstart, from upstart to contender, from contender to winner, from winner, to champion, and from champion to dynasty (Riley, ...
