Political Participation Activities Analysis
For my political participation activity, I was a key member in organizing an Army ROTC 5k to
raise funds for the ROTC program and the Martha Portree scholarship. At first thought this may
seem like a simple event, that doesn t include politics but there are multiple different ideological
beliefs that come with trying to get people to participate in something like this. Throughout the
semester I completed many different duties in order to reach success. In the beginning, what could
be called the planning phase I assisted fellow students in organizing with NAU s and labeling what
needed to be completed. Then to direct organization of the event that included communicating with
sponsors, and gaining people in Flagstaff to sign up for the run/walk.... Show more content on

Specifically, I went to Country Host restaurant, Planet Dodge, Urban Clouds vapor lounge,
Black Bart s steak house, Lumberyard Brewing company, and Flag X. These business gained
interest to participate in one of two ways. The bigger ones like Planet Dodge were interested on
how big their emblem would be on the T shirt. While the smaller establishments like Country
Host wanted to know when the event was so they could attend and be part of the community. By
gaining the help of these places I influenced them to act politically because like Bartel explains

Narrative Essay About My Christmas Day
My family and I have a christmas tradition that involves watching movies all night Christmas Eve
and open our presents at midnight. Six years ago I got a tablet. I was so excited for when I woke
up a few hour later after it had been charging and couldn t wait to use it. If I had known what I
know now about what happens next, I would not be so anxious. ChristmasDay 2015, my sixth
grade year. I woke up and of course I was the first up of my brother, sister, mom, and dad. When I
rushed to the living room to play with my present, it happened. I started coughing to the point
when I collapsed. I was laying on the floor coughing out every bit of air that was in me and that
is when I felt the lack of breath. A lot of stuff had happened to me, but that was the first time in
my life when I thought I was going to die and the pain made me actually want to. I was alone in
my house, having the worst experience of my life, and if it wasn t for my father waking up and
hearing me. He rushed to get me an inhaler, but it only helped me regain the ability to breath. I
could not stand, I could not talk, I could not eat, I could barely breath, I felt like a fish out of
water and I felt helpless. I was rushed to the E.R where I found out that a throat infection was the
cause of all the pain, and that my weight caused the asthmaattack. I had stopped caring about others
opinions about me at that point, but I realized that my weight was a real problem and not a flaw in
me but something that had the

Why Women Still CanT Have It All By Anne-Marie Slaughter
In the article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter explains why women
can t manage both the difficulties of a high end job while doing the best they can as a parent.
Slaughter is a very successful women who had worked for Hillary Clinton at the state department
being the first woman policy planner. She begins the essay by explaining a conversation that came
up between herself and a colleague who held a senior position in the White House. She tells her
colleague that is has been very difficult for her to be away from her son at work, when he needs her
at home. At this point Slaughter comes up with the idea to write an article about these struggles she
and many women are dealing with. Throughout this meeting Slaughter... Show more content on

This reason could eventually lead to women either being stressed because they don t have enough
time to fulfill their needs at work and home, and also could eventually lead to a decision against
having children altogether. Slaughter also includes examples of some very successful women that
have struggled to raise a family due to the fact that they are so limited with time, while most
successful men, if not all, are still able to balance the time of have a family and a high end job.
It s easy to understand how this can be a very difficult problem for most women to get around.
Even if they find a very successful job, it s much more challenging for them to be a good mom
while also doing their overall best in their profession. I thought Slaughter shared a very
interesting quote halfway through her article to help sum up her thoughts from Mary Matalin,
(a lady who resigned after only two years in order to spend more time with her children.) Matalin
says, having control of your schedule is the only way that women who want a career and a
family can make it work. Quote from The Atlantic. In the article Why Men Still Can t Have It
All, by Richard Dorment, a senior writer and editor in esquire magazine, Dorment responds to
Slaughter s article by claiming men face the same problem as women do. He claims that recent
times have made it much more difficult for men to balance work and family life. He

Major Challenges That Face Human Resources Practitioners...
Human Resource Management is a vast field and there are infinite issues related to it, this paper
will focus only on core issues faced by Human Resource Practitioners in Australia and thus analyse
how such practitioners can contribute to achieve high performance workplace culture. It is indeed
necessary to identify these challenges faced by Human Resource Practitioners in Australia in order
to implement and develop effective HR practices policies and thus enable the Human Resource

Professions such as nursing, teaching are facing a shortage of skilled labourers. (De Cieri and
Kramar, 2005) Most of the new jobs that would be created in future would require high levels of
reading and writing. HR Practitioners need to select people possessing the key skills required
specifically for the job which is a big challenge in itself. Skilled workforce is inter related with
efficiency. Efficient workforce is as necessary as skilled workforce. Skill and Efficiency are two
sides of the same coin. Efficiency mainly contributes towards productivity. Organization is not
made up of a single individual, it is made up of numerous people. Skill can be acquired after a
period of time but efficiency can t be acquired. The perfect example of skilled and efficient
workforce can be seen in organization like J. P. Morgan. HR practitioners need to ensure that
proper tools are provided to workers for increasing their skill efficiency as organizations can t
survive for a long period of time without knowledgeable, skilled and committed workforce. (Rooke
and Keely, 1994). The biggest and toughest challenge faced by Human resource Practitioners in
Australia is flexibility. Flexibility largely depends on the eternal environment and the workforce.

Addiction And The Treatment Of Addiction
What if I was to tell you that everything you know about addiction is untrue? What if I was to say
that our pre conceived views on addiction were based on ignorance. It s pretty simple really, it s
about CONNECTION NOT addiction.
Good morning Mrs. Arnold, Ms. Shields and class, today I will be talking to you about addiction
and arguing how the treatment of this disease is actually quite simple. 1) we disconnected them
from their substance abuse 2) we reconnected them with important people in their lives who they
love a value, regardless of how damaged that relationship has become 3) 100% on time and energy
should be spent on strong relationships and moving them to next stage in their lives.
Have you ever watched someone you love fall into a spiral of darkness, crowded with pain, self
anguish and pure contradiction of both love and hatred for their weakness?.
A weakness which has both defined and collapsed every relationship, every situation that they have.
Despite this fixation, this person is thoroughly aware that it is in fact an enslavement, they know
the consequences, they are acquainted with direct results. And yet they continue to endeavor with
this drug. Why?
Firstly, I would like to begin by telling you all, that everything you know or have been taught about
addiction or the treatment of addiction, is untrue. Despite being students, we seem to have these
pre conceived ideas and ignorant views as to what this disease actually is. Deny it or not, I ve heard

An Understanding Of God And A New World Of Faith
Faith, a word that has a different meaning to every individual that walks this Earth, cannot be so
easily defined. Faith, when talking about it in the religious sense, makes it even that much harder
to understand. Everyone believes in something, and each of those beliefs have an enormous effect
on how they live their lives. Gerald O Collins, a Jesuit Priest, states that within the Christian faith,
lies two components: Fides Quae and Fides Qua. Fides Quae is the faith which is believed, or the
content of that faith. Fides Qua is the individuals own personal commitment to God. Throughout
this paper I will demonstrate faith using The Compendium, and A New World of Faith to show how
a good understanding of faith can reveal the truth from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This statement simplified would essentially mean that in order to have faith you must be able to
trust in God, even though we

cannot physically be in his presence on Earth. To elaborate, a faithful follower of christ must first
have knowledge of the religion, agree to the terms, and then trust in that faith. Faith requires an
individual to not only trust in God himself, but to also firmly believe the scriptures and teachings
from within the Bible as well. Both this knowledge and trust is very crucial to the understanding
and involvement with the Catholic faith. So many people simply agree with the teachings of
the Bible, but do not fully trust in its meaning. For example, every Catholic understands that
Jesus was nailed to the cross and died for our salvation, but they don t believe that in the harder
times in life, that Jesus will come through on this promise for us. Being humble and opening
oneself up to this idea of a loving faith relationship with God is what truly defines the term above
all else. A good example of this concept from scripture would be from (John 3:16) For God so
loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life. This type of knowledge trust relationship we have with God is a type of
rational faith, or fides et ratio. We must have strongly backed reasoning for what we

A Research On Fixed Income Investing
This research has important implications for Buy and Maintain fixed income investing. While there
are many more attributes to take into account when choosing fixed income securities (multiple
issues per issuer based on tenor, subordination, etc.), each fixed income security has arguably less
idiosyncratic factors driving its return than an equivalent equity security. When building a Buy and
Maintain portfolio that is resilient to various economic environments and stages of the business
cycle, one must therefore draw from the entire global fixed income market; and, the global bond
universe is huge.
But how many issuers are needed to achieve a well diversified
Buy and Maintain portfolio? Given there are over 200 industry sectors, then if the fund manager
chooses five issuers per sector to feel confident of diversifying default risk, the portfolio would need
to hold a minimum of 1,000 issuers in total! Instead, the fund manager should aim to hold a
minimum of 200 issuers to maximize yield and protect against both market risk (through smart
sector and geographic construction) and idiosyncratic risk from any particular issuer (through smart
issuer and issue selection). 14 | Buy and Maintain: A smarter approach to credit portfolio

The Epic Of Beowulf By Beowulf
People throughout the world practice a variety of religions. Some religions are more popular than
others such as Buddhism versus Jainism. Religions tend to spread within a society and then die
back down. However, there are still people amongst us who believe or may even still practice
archaic religions. Some religions date back to 700 A.D such as Christianity and paganism. Over the
course of hundreds of years both religions have evolved. Throughout different works of literature,
people are able to understand the original aspects of these different religions. Due to the
construction of this Beowulf, students and professors are able to study and get a true understanding
of a pagans demeanor and how life evolves through their eyes. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf,
paganism is exemplified as this epic hero falls victim to fate while embarking on his journey
through life fighting monsters and chasing after his fame.
To begin with, Beowulf was composed in Old English by an anonymous writer between the sixth
and seventh century, and it is known for portraying the emergence of the Anglo Saxonsand their
way of life. Adams David Leeming, author of The Anglo Saxons 449 1066 , stated that the island
of Great Britain, secluded from the European continent, seemed perfect for the birth of legends,
poets, and the belief in elves due to its rain drenched and almost always fogged weather. This type
of weather is ideal for such stories involving heroes and legends. This island has been

Van Nguyen Should Be Abolished
In my opinion, I believe Van Nguyen should have been given clemency. While he was convicted
of drug trafficking, Singaporean police should have not carried out the execution for reasons
such as: inhumanity and contradiction. In today s world we all want to move towards a violence
free society, and I can t see how dishing out capitol punishment helps our move. It is contradicting
and makes our plea for violence free seem meaningless. I believe no one deserves to die, and that
we all make mistakes, some worse than others but we should all be given a second chance.
Furthermore, I don t believe that executing Van Nguyen will deter future drugtraffickers from this
type of behavior. Instead, what should have happened was, the Singaporean governmentshould have
still sentenced Van Nguyen to a penalty, but one that will allow people to rectify their mistakes,
and reflect on their choices and understand the consequences that are involved and what the effects
are on others. Finally, I can understand Tony Abbot s statement, about people do need to
understand that drug trafficking is a very serious offence , it is clear that while traveling overseas
you are out of the Australian governments control, you leave our democracy and enter another, and
it is important to familiarise yourself with other laws, but in the end, the decision made on Van
Nguyen s life was unreasonable.
I believe that the amount of heroin and in fact all drugs are enough to cause many drug related
deaths. I also

Children Of A Lesser God By Randa Haines And Starring...
Children of a Lesser God was directed by Randa Haines and starring William Hurt and Marlee
Matlin. This love story follows most stereotypes found in Romantic cinema, but instead of other
people or names keeping these two apart it s their own communication. This was not my first
time watching this movie, so before I put it on I wanted to reflect on some of the ideas and
questions I had the first time I watched the film. I wanted to see if my view changed now that I
know a little bit more about Deaf culture. I remember sitting on my couch bored scrolling through
movies when I came across this one the first time. After reading the description I thought it
would make sufficient background noise. I recall when I first watched the film I was pretty

Similarities Between Samurai And American Knights
European Knights and Japanese Samurai Warriors The medieval time era, was one of many
wars, across almost every continent. From this two skilled and famous breeds of men formed.
They are known as the medieval knights of Europe and the feudal Samurai warriors of Japan.
Both groups of warriors had many similarities, but also their unique qualities. The following will
examine some of this common and not so common aspects. To begin, the classes of the two
warriors are very similar. Both existed in a society that followed a feudal system. In Europe the
King would grant lords land in exchange for loyalty. The lords would then grant knights land or
safe haven in exchange for their loyalty in battle. When war loomed on the horizon the knights
were expected to answer the call and defend the lord s property. Like wise in Japan the Shogun
would grant lords land and the lords would give the land to Samuraiin exchange for loyalty. The
Samurai also fought to protect their lord s holdings. The class of samurai and knightwas very

thirteen knights started their training by becoming a squire to a lord. They would learn from the
lord and train in the arts of horseback riding, swordsmanship, and chivalry. At the age twenty they
would be granted the title of knight. The title of knight could also be passed from a father to his

Who s To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
Did you know that it wasn t Romeo and Juliet s fault that they died? Romeo and Juliet by
Shakespeare is a great romantic tragedy for those who like reading Shakespeare. The Lords

Reflection On Stress And Anxiety
On Wednesday, September 27, 2017, I attended a Stress and Anxiety workshop at the Miller
Learning Center in room 207 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event was hosted by University
Health Center Counseling and Psychiatric Services for personal enrichment. The purpose of this
session was to learn about new ways to manage stress and anxiety while maintaining a hectic
schedule. As I entered the room, there was a group of 30 diverse students ones who I would
assume had everything under control. It became less nerve racking as there were students ranging
from freshman to seniors, boys and girls, students of color anxiety bonded us together. Our
instructor, Dr. Debra Kay Alvis, provided a calm and kind presence: soothing her audience after
their long day of stress. She broke her lecture into two sections: science and experiment.
The first component was the scientific aspect of stress and rising cortisol levels. By educating us on
how our body is functioning, we can understand the importance of meditation and breathing
exercises on our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Cortisol is the stress hormone that
interferes with learning and memory, it lowers immune function and bone density, increases weight
gain, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, etc. This hormone alerts the adrenal glands to
increase the production of adrenaline; adrenaline is responsible for the fight or flight response in
humans which explains why we say or do things that we don t mean to. Dr. Alvis

Surveillance Program Unethical Use Of Computer
Programs created by US Government to invade people s privacy
It is primary mission that governments protect its people, and this protection includes using some
software programs to monitor suspicious activities that could be caught on the web or from telecom
communications. However, would this act invade people s privacy? Would these programs restrict
the people freedom? Is this program unethical use of computer?
There has been a case similar to that situation when the US government used national security
surveillance programs for the intent to protect Americans from terrorism and cyber attacks. These
surveillance programs were initiated by NSA to spy on telecommunication data and the internet
activities. However, these programs were created for the purpose of maintaining the security of
people. These programs are effective tools to confront the terrorist threat that the government been

is something suspicious then it tracks it to ease the national security job to stop newly discovered
crimes and terrorists attacks.
According to NSA agency, these surveillance programs do not cause harm to people nor takeout is

only what seems to be threat to the national security. It work as magnifier of the possible threats

They were all very young and had bright futures ahead of them. From the friars story we believe

The Right Of Privacy, By Richard Posner
In The Right of Privacy, Richard Posner argues that, the law should in general accord private
business information greater protection than it accords personal information. Secrecy is an
important method of appropriating social benefits to the entrepreneur who creates them while in
private life it is more likely to conceal discreditable facts (Posner 404). However, his argument is
flawed, because it denigrates individuals, diminishing the value of their privacyin order to place the
corporate world above their needs and rights. Posner s claim rests on his economic analysis, which
holds that a business has greater potential for economic efficiency than an individual if its
information is kept private. And it is crucial to this analysis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Posner cites the example of the Bureau of the Census, which does not have to buy the data it
collects from firms or households; the cost to the individual disclosing this information is
relatively small, because the government takes necessary precautions to protect those whom it
surveys from creditors and tax collectors, among others. Posner recognizes that some private
information that people desire to conceal is not discreditable, and grants them privacy in such
cases, but still believes that people want to manipulate the world around them by selective
disclosure of facts about themselves (400). Here is where the distinction between intermediate
and final goods is especially important, because it is presupposed that people use privacy for a
greater purpose. Because people may attempt to misrepresent themselves to get ahead, protecting
individual privacy rights can be economically inefficient. He goes so far as to say that the
economic case for according legal protection to [personal information] is no better than that for
permitting fraud in the sale of goods (401). Posner points out, however, that many conversations
should be kept private, for to make them public would also lead to less effective communication,
since certain formalities are expected

Literary Criticism Of Margaret Atwood
Margaret Atwood is evenly concerned with encouraging a discrete Canadian literary identity. In
her novels, Atwood naturally creates women characters who are strained to rebuild themselves in
a more self contained and audacious figure as they seek out to set up their relationship to the
world and to the individuals around them. Atwood s dissections of contemporary urban life and
sexual politics have been chiefly welcomed by feminists. She is no less concerned in setting up
what it means to be Canadian, centering her stories in Canadian cities, conflicts and contemporary
people. Her writings are such which insists on Canadians to focus on and value their own
experience. Atwood s fictionis often symbolic and she moves easily between satire, fantasy... Show

Case Study One
In this case study I will use Gibbs (1988) model of reflection to write a personal account of an
abdominal examination carried out in general practice under the supervision of my mentor, utilising
the skills taught during the module thus far.
What happened
During morning routine sick parade I was presented with a 21 year old male soldier experiencing
severe acute, non specific, abdominal pain. Under the supervision of the medical officer (MO) I
proceeded to carry out a full assessment and abdominal examination, using Byrne and Long s
(1976) model to structure the consultation. I requested the patients consent before conducting the
examination, as is essential before commencement of any medical procedure, be it a ... Show more

Thus allowing me to form a differential diagnosis and rule out certain causes, such as; constipation,
and indigestion. Subsequently, the physical examination enabled me to confirm a diagnosis of acute
abdomen. As the patient was not experiencing any worrying (red flag) symptoms associated with
abdominal emergencies, such as; appendicitis or pancreatitis. However, I did forget certain aspects
of the physical examination and had to be prompted by the MO. Although with more practice such
incidence would be reduced.
Analysis
I was happy that I managed to rule out any distinct causes of the abdominal pain by performing the
examination to collect data, analyse it, and use the results to make an appropriate decision (Schon,
1984). However, had I performed the examination without assistance I may not have gained all the
information required to confirm diagnosis, as I did forget some aspects.
Conclusion
The MO seemed happy with my diagnosis and care plan, though he did highlight the importance of
practicing the physical examination skills in order to become a more competent practitioner.
Overall I feel gaining knowledge and skills in translating a patients history and physical
examination results, has enabled me to become more confident in making a diagnosis and has
improved my decision making skills.
Action Plan
In order to become a more capable and effective practitioner I must continue to

others. They would try to get him out of his house to see if the rumors were true. They were even
frightened to walk past his yard. Scout and Jem would constantly taunt Boo and try to lure him out
of his house. They even hesitantly wrote him a note, in ch.7 the note reads Dear sir... thank you...

Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo (Comparative Essay)

the match is Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo. But the question remains, who is better? You can

Cristiano Ronaldo scores far more goals with his head, not afraid to go in where it hurts. He
manages to apply great power to his headers and undoubtly is always going to be more effective
in the air than Messi. This is due to the fact that Ronaldo stands at 6 1 while Lionel Messi stands at
5 6 ВЅ . Messi scored the memorable second goal against Manchester United, one of England s
best teams, in the 2009 Champions league final with his head. But that was the exception to the
rule. Most of La Pulga Atomica s (The Atomic Flea) goals come from his left foot. Lionel Messi
has become a lethal intruder in the goalkeeper s area. If someone were to tell you that they ve
seen him gently push in 40 goals with one touch kicks inside the goalkeeper s area the past two
years, they wouldn t be exaggerating. When the play needs collected finishing, Lionel is right
there to lightly push it home every time. Lastly, a player s mentality can make them or break
them. It influences so much that it changes the way a player acts. Messi s mentality, suprisingly,
isn t the best around. When his under pressure, it seems like the weight of the world lies on his
shoulders and slows him down. This happens often when he plays with his national team,
Argentina. The fact that you ll sometimes find yourself asking Where s Messi? is proof enough.

If a student has test anxiety, however, he or she may not perform as well on these important tests
as they typically would if they weren t experiencing a lot of anxiety. A new study indicates that
writing about one s anxieties before an important exam may help a student perform significantly
better on that test. The research was conducted by Dr. Sian Beilock and her colleagues. Beilock
is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago and an expert in, choking
under pressure. Choking under pressure, refers to the phenomenon that occurs when one
performs below his or her ability or skill level during an especially challenging task or
experience. Beilock has also written a book entitled Choke: What the Secrets of the Brain
Reveal About Getting It Right When You Have To. According to Psych Central, Beilock has
done prior research that has shown pressure filled experiences or situations may reduce working
memory, which is part of the brain s processing power. Our working memories allow us to recall
information needed to perform everyday tasks. However, working memory has limited processing
power, so when worries creep up, the ability to recall and retrieve information becomes limited.
Prior research has also indicated expressive writing where individuals write about emotional or
traumatic experiences repeatedly over weeks decreases worries in individuals who are depressed.
The current study aimed to determine if writing in a classroom could help students perform better
on tests. Additionally, the researchers hypothesized that just one opportunity to write before taking
a test would reduce worries and improve exam scores. In one experiment, the researchers recruited
20 college students to take two short mathematics tests. The researchers instructed the students to
simply do their best on the first test (pre test).

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales, a collection of short tales in the 14th century.
The compilation of stories is told by pilgrims on the journey within the narrative as part of a
game proposed by the host. Each individual must tell two stories of their journey. My favorite
pilgrim was the Franklin. The Franklin was a gentry landowner, member of the nobility, who
had extensive holdings. He belonged to the middle class and was a man of leisure. Chaucer
described him as White as a daisy petal was his beard. A sanguine man, high colored and benign
(line 342 343). The Franklin sported a white beard and carried a dagger and a white silk purse.
He had a cheerful personality and was confident. His only reason to be on this pilgrimage was to
enjoy himself. The Franklin was traveling with the Man of Law. According to Chaucer he He
loved a morning sop of cake in wine. He lived for pleasure and had always done ( line 344). I
think that Chaucer had a good opinion of the Franklin. The way that Chaucer describes the
Franklin makes the reader think that Chaucer likes him. He says that The Franklin is calm,
strong and an overall a cheerful guy. Chaucer also proves that he thinks highly of the Franklin by
saying, He was a model among landed gentry (line 369 370). He lives to please others and has a
house full of food. The Franklin, according to Chaucer, had an overall great sense of hospitality.
The Franklin s deadly sin was gluttony. He liked to overindulge himself

infection in wounds. It will also give a personal experience of performing the technique.
Hart (2004) states the principle of Aseptic Technique is to prevent the spread of micro organisms to
wounds and to protects the nurse and patient from healthcare associated infections (HCIA). The
technique used for less invasive procedures such as intravenous drugs and wound care is the Aseptic

I found my first introduction to ANTT interesting. I enjoy practical sessions and find it a good
source of learning. When being shown ANTT I thought that the Donning/wearing of gloves may
cause problems due to cross contamination, however once tried I found the process relatively
simple. Very quickly I adjusted to the process and refrained from touching hair/clothes
The purpose of the ANTT is to protect the patient and nurse from infection and to prevent the
spread of pathogens. This can have a huge effect on the recovery rate of the patient. HCIA can
mean a longer stay or readmission to hospital and in some cases lead to disability or death (Hart
2007). This information suggests that the ANTT is not being carried out correctly and Department
of Health (2005) support this by stating that 9% of patients contract HCAI s per year in UK
hospitals.
I recognise that with my own experience it can be quite easy to cause cross contamination, correct
hand washing is vital as it is one of the main cause for the increase of infections in hospitals. I
thought that washing your hands was quite straight forward until I used the ultra violet light and
saw the places that I missed. I now practise the seven stages of hand washing ensuring I clean my
hands correctly reducing the risk of cross contamination.
I know that with continued practice I shall carry out the ANTT confidently and without making
mistakes, remembering to dispose of items correctly. I have also

Reducing Risk Factors of Children’s Resilience Essay
Reducing Risk Factors of Children s Resilience This paper will examine the concept of resilience
as it has emerged in the research literature of Grotberg (1995). It will evaluate the effectiveness of
the concept in the area of developing more effective protective factors for children and families
subjected to vulnerability and adversity. It will be noted that resilience needs to be promoted on
three fronts, work on individual resilience strategies, promotion of resilience through the
organisations and agencies, such as school and the curriculum, family welfare services and
promotion of resilience in the community. This paper concentrates on those aspects of reducing the

The concept of resilience is closely associated with risk and suggests that at risk children and
families are more likely to develop an adverse outcome or disorder than others, which includes
poverty, unemployment, homelessness, poor health, single parenting and divorce, organisational,
social, cohort and family line diversity. Given the conceptual complexities of resilience, it is
important to take stock of the individual factors, family dynamics e.g. step families, adoption,
fostering and environmental difficulties such as war, drought, cultural beliefs, which resilience
develops. Such a conceptual framework is likely to provide a useful yet multidimensional
conceptualisation of resilience. Focusing on these individual, familial, and environmental risk and
protective factors, their influence on the landscape of reunification and re entry opens new avenues
for exploration, which lead to more effective interventions for children and families (Rapoprt
Rapoprot, 1982). Although protective and risk have often been used interchangeably in the
literature, Rutter (1999) sees resilience as the attribute that characterise and structuralise the
conceptual framework of protective perspective. The protective perspective emphasises the
resources, assets, potentials, and capabilities of children, groups, families, and communities
(Bernards, 1997). This approach also marks a definitive

As I left, I felt a sense of piety, a piety that I must visit again and again. The Hall of Buddhas gave

not shared.
The next corridor was an exhibit of ceramics of everyday life in the Neolithic period of the
Majlayao culture (Machong phase, CA 2300 2000BC Metropolitan Museum plaque). The
pottery of this period expresses similarities in the color and shapes to the art found amongst the
indigenous cultures elsewhere in the world. On the side was another room with two guardian
lions (6th dynasty 220 589). Lion statues were status symbols for great dwellings that were
placed outside of main entranceways to promote good and to stop evil from entering in (Feng
Shui, Lam 38). In the room at the Museum they guard lacquer images and woodcarvings of
Buddhas. Buddha images executed in dry lacquer were highly valued by the Chinese because of
the costly time consuming process required to produce them (Metropolitan Museum wall plaque).
Possibly the lions do serve a purpose here: to prevent any evil beings from entering a room filled
with prized lacquer Buddhas.
The Han dynasty (25 220 CE) exhibit outside in the corridor demonstrated remarkable uniformity.
Common pottery such as models of houses and farm structures, were created as funerary objects
for burials. The Han period has deeply shaped and cast its roots in contemporary burial rituals.

that won him the Pulitzer Price just a year after its release. In the play Miller expresses the life
of a 60 year old salesman that undergoes through lack of success in his life and sees the same
thing happening ,to his two grown sons now in their mid thirties, as the American dream faded
away being replaced by capitalism in the late 1940s. The play starts of by introducing Willy
Loman, the protagonist, and tells the story of the final twenty four hours in Willy s life all the way
to his death and funeral. Between that timelaps the audience is able to see Willies past thanks to his
constant daydreams, along with his sons past and wife and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Willy is offered help by his friend Charley, a successful Business man, Willies all time friend and
only friends he has left, when Charley offers Willy a job, yet willy full of pride and envious of
Charley rejects it yet does not rejects it but continues to borrow money from him. This is due to
Willies flaw in his desire of being higher in society than anyone else.Willy cannot let go of the
past and continuously refers to 1928, when his career was at its peak. His withdrawal into the
past is a defense mechanism as he refuses to come to terms with his failure as a salesman. His
illusions of grandeur lead to fierce exaggerations of himself. He tells Biff to Go to Filene s go to
the Hub, go to Slattery s, Boston. Call out the name Willy Loman and see what happens! Big
shot! (Miller, 62). He refuses to realize his personal failures and falsely believes that he is
successful. Memories of a happier past Willy losing a grip on reality and on time escapes into the
past. Despite his desperate searching through his past, The deep probing of dreams and memories
in Death of A Salesmanwhere quite important in illustrating Miller s point. Willy is a man stuck
in the past reminiscing about times when things where good fabrication of those times really were
as good as he imagines them to be? Like his inflated dreams of the future, the past may well be
embellished by Willy s wild imagination. It seems

Looking For Alibrandi Challenges
Life in general is full of facing challenges. As the saying goes, What doesn t kill you makes you
stronger. So then why do we all, when faced with an unpleasant situation, try to find the easy way
out and not tackle down the obstacles and all the suffering? People stop trying because they
believe that their hardship will never end so they put up with it and suffer more than they have to.
However they don t understand that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel and that you
might be struggling now but it will always be brighter and greater on the other side, you just need
to find your way to it. Our society is always changing. Different generations of people include
having different kinds of life s, which means that these challenges... Show more content on

Descriptive language is been used thoroughly throughout this text and has been able to make a
point of Josephine s life and the challenges that adolesces face throughout their teen years. This
novel was also written in first person form so when you team that up with descriptive language it
allows the reader to understand Josephine s thoughts, feelings and opinions on the issues, which
she faces. Marchetta has done this by using the descriptive language repetitively so the audience
gets a detailed idea on what she is thinking and feeling. If this technique wasn t used us as the
audience wouldn t have gotten to know what she really was feeling and how important it was for
her to overcome the challenges she was faced with for the new phases of her

What Is The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Essay
I chose to write a journal in Benjamin Button s words based on the original literary text: The
Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Details about how his life went throughout
the years are mentioned in this assignment to have a consistent connection to the original story.
Although the condition that Mr. Button was living has a huge impact on how he lives, how
everyone around him behaves, he still loves them. He has got a positive attitude about how his
life would go on despite he is getting younger. He never gives up on his work and life. He is the
inspiration for the people who has similar case such as disability in this modern society,

The Warm House Spreads An Aura Of Holiday Cheer Throughout...
Victoria Rosenblum
Honors English 10
10/9/14
The warm house spreads an aura of holiday cheer throughout the crisp, cool air. Hoards of family
members pile through the front door, with young couples stopping just below the archway for a
little peck under the mistletoe. Thousands for cars line the street and I immediately notice my
mother outside wearing her bright red Christmas sweater greeting all of my family. I wave and she
grins and waves back pointing out a spot for my uncle to park the car.
I leap out of my uncle s beat up car, officially bored out of my mind from Christmas mass. My
breath creates a hazy cloud in the dark sky. The dim luminaries along the sidewalk guide me to
the door, and I am greeted by my mother who kisses me on top of my forhead and greets my
uncle. It s a family tradition to dress as famous Christmas characters; there s something very
bizarre about seeing your cousins dressed as Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, and of course,
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. After 13 long Christmases, I have thankfully gotten myself out
of having to dress up as a holiday enthusiast. It s not that I m anti holiday or anything; I just don t
see the point in going overboard with holiday spirit.
Once inside, I meander past the piles of gifts, greeting relatives along the way. I enter the kitchen
and am immediately hit with the aroma of hoagies, chips, and orange soda a feast fit for pigs.
Dozens of family members surround the kitchen island, and it s a

The Tang empire was originally the Sui dynasty. The Li family had seen an opportunity to take
over due to an outbreak of chaos happening in the Sui dynasty, and renamed it the Tang empire. Li
Shimin (r. 626 649), an emperor of this new dynasty, had decided to extend his power into Inner
Asia, expanding the empire. The Tang empire had a formidable army and impressive art works that
contribute to their achievements, and lasted from 618 to 907 C.E. After the decline of the Tang
empire, three new states had emerged, one being the Song empire. The Song, having to pay tribute
to the Liao, sided with the Jurchens to rebel against the Liao. Instead of helping the Song empire,
the Jurchens took over Liao instead and turned on the Song empire. Once... Show more content on

Soon enough, the government took away the use of paper money and replaced it with taxes and
financial incentives. Although the Tang and Song had this similar achievement of credit, the
empires had different forms of printing as well. The innovations of woodblock printing and
movable type printing were revolutionary during the Tang and Song empire, with the invention of
woodblock printing originating in the Tang empire, and movable type originating in the Song
empire. Woodblock printing was a process of block printing on paper , and became widespread
across China after Tang influence. Due to this widespread influence, the Song empire made a
technical change to woodblock printing, and created the movable type method. This method allows
the mass production of test preparation books as well as an increase in the obtainability of printed
books.
A political achievement similarity the Tang and Song empire share is experiencing a change in
empire size. The Tang empire, originating in Central Asia had extended its power into Inner Asia,
causing the empire to increase in size dramatically. Soon enough, the Tang were defeated by an
army of Arabs, Turks, and Tibetans, which prevented the Tang from expanding their empire
westward, resulting in growth to cease. The Song empire, also experiencing a change in empire
size, had to shift south of the Yellow River due to increasing

AKI Case
Frederick was given a preliminary diagnosis of a prerenal AKI. AKI is a complex condition with
various different definitions available, most including a rapid decline in kidney function and the
lack of ability of the kidneys to filter blood, subsequently leading to increased levels of serum
creatinine and BUN levels in the blood(Cheung et al., 2008). AKI is the leading cause of nephrology
consultation in the UK and carries with it high mortality rates (Basile, 2012). The primary causes
of an AKI are hypoxia, ischemia and nephrotoxicity. The main underlying feature of an AKI is a
rapid decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is strongly linked with a decrease in
blood flow to the kidneys. The GFR depends on the interplay between... Show more content on

It is secondary to under perfusion of otherwise normally functioning kidneys and if detected early
can be reversible. In Mr Jones s case, his kidney s experienced hypo perfusion during surgery.
Hypo perfusion consequently causes azotemia due to the excess nitrogenous wastes in the blood.
Medications, such as high doses of dopamine, can cause prerenal kidney injury due to the
production of intrarenal vasoconstriction, which can lead to hypo perfusion of the glomeruli
(Nissenson, 1998). The kidneys have an enormous blood supply and account for 20 25% of
cardiac output. This blood supply is needed for the removal of waste products and the
management of fluid and electrolyte balances. If the blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, this has
a decreasing effect on the GFR leading to a decreased urine output, filtration and reabsorption of
filtered material through the glomerulus. This can lead to further issues and effect other organs in
the body. Fredrick experienced a decreased urine output as a symptom of his reduced GFR. Fredrick
s increased respiration rate noted during assessment was an indicator of his deterioration and alerted
the medical team that there was an underlying issue. During the nurse s assessment, they observed
that Frederic had very poor urine output, which is also linked with the drop in the GFR in the
kidneys. Thus, encouraging the nursing staff to take immediate action with thereputic

Alfie Kohn Competition
Alfie Kohn states that competition by its very nature is always unhealthy and has written an essay
opposing the concept. There are various examples of competition in the world today, from sports
that the world watches on television, to spelling bees children in elementary and middle school
participate in. Competition is a part of our daily lives whether we re aware of it or not; however, it
does have its disadvantages that leads me to support Kohn s opinion. People watch sports all year
long. They decide who they think is the best team and then they support that team. If they think
their team is better than another, but they encounter a fan of the opposite team, hostilities ensue
over their differences in opinions. But when the actual

Section 8 Housing Case Study
I chose to focus on the rent voucher/section 8 housing, because it is very common in my town
and the surrounding towns I grew up in. Section 8 housing was created to help those who could
afford housing, particularly for those who are low income. Voucher housing better known as
section 8 housing allows low income people to live in a private market housing unit, the landlord,
who is in a contract with the government, is not allowed to take anymore than 30% of your income
for rent (Palen, 255). In 2000, there were more than 1.4 million families that lived in section 8
housing, but many families could not find apartments that they could afford to qualify, because
their income was to high (Palen, 255). Because of the lack of section 8 apartments the Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has increased the amount of apartments open to receive
section 8 housing (Palen, 255). Although section 8 housing is very popular for developers and
business people, many section 8 housing apartments have had many tough times because of
dishonest officials (Palen, 255). The construction of new low income housing has seen its share of
failures in the past , which is why rent vouchers tend to be more common rather than building a
whole low income housing unit that could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Department of Housing and Urban development defines housing choice vouchers as, a program
that is federally funded for assisting very low income families, the elderly, and the disabled to
afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market (Castro). This definition is very
similar to that of Palen s definition in the book, they both cover it being federally funded, but the
article goes into more detail on who can apply for the voucher and why. The article does go into
more detail about the process of finding an apartment, or in some cases a house, to live in and the
landlord must accept the terms of the voucher for the family to live in the that particular unit or

Political Participation Activities Analysis For my political participation activity, I was a key member in organizing an Army ROTC 5k to raise funds for the ROTC program and the Martha Portree scholarship. At first thought this may seem like a simple event, that doesn t include politics but there are multiple different ideological beliefs that come with trying to get people to participate in something like this. Throughout the semester I completed many different duties in order to reach success. • 3. Narrative Essay About My Christmas Day My family and I have a christmas tradition that involves watching movies all night Christmas Eve and open our presents at midnight. Six years ago I got a tablet. I was so excited for when I woke up a few hour later after it had been charging and couldn t wait to use it. If I had known what I know now about what happens next, I would not be so anxious. ChristmasDay 2015, my sixth grade year. I woke up and of course I was the first up of my brother, sister, mom, and dad. When I rushed to the living room to play with my present, it happened. I started coughing to the point when I collapsed. I was laying on the floor coughing out every bit of air that was in me and that is when I felt the lack of breath. A lot of stuff had happened to me, but that was the first time in my life when I thought I was going to die and the pain made me actually want to. I was alone in my house, having the worst experience of my life, and if it wasn t for my father waking up and hearing me. He rushed to get me an inhaler, but it only helped me regain the ability to breath. I could not stand, I could not talk, I could not eat, I could barely breath, I felt like a fish out of water and I felt helpless. I was rushed to the E.R where I found out that a throat infection was the cause of all the pain, and that my weight caused the asthmaattack. I had stopped caring about others opinions about me at that point, but I realized that my weight was a real problem and not a flaw in me but something that had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This reason could eventually lead to women either being stressed because they don t have enough time to fulfill their needs at work and home, and also could eventually lead to a decision against having children altogether. Slaughter also includes examples of some very successful women that have struggled to raise a family due to the fact that they are so limited with time, while most successful men, if not all, are still able to balance the time of have a family and a high end job. It s easy to understand how this can be a very difficult problem for most women to get around. Even if they find a very successful job, it s much more challenging for them to be a good mom while also doing their overall best in their profession. I thought Slaughter shared a very interesting quote halfway through her article to help sum up her thoughts from Mary Matalin, (a lady who resigned after only two years in order to spend more time with her children.) Matalin says, having control of your schedule is the only way that women who want a career and a family can make it work. Quote from The Atlantic. • 9. An Understanding Of God And A New World Of Faith Faith, a word that has a different meaning to every individual that walks this Earth, cannot be so easily defined. Faith, when talking about it in the religious sense, makes it even that much harder to understand. Everyone believes in something, and each of those beliefs have an enormous effect on how they live their lives. Gerald O Collins, a Jesuit Priest, states that within the Christian faith, lies two components: Fides Quae and Fides Qua. Fides Quae is the faith which is believed, or the content of that faith. Fides Qua is the individuals own personal commitment to God. Throughout this paper I will demonstrate faith using The Compendium, and A New World of Faith to show how a good understanding of faith can reveal the truth from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statement simplified would essentially mean that in order to have faith you must be able to trust in God, even though we 2 cannot physically be in his presence on Earth. To elaborate, a faithful follower of christ must first have knowledge of the religion, agree to the terms, and then trust in that faith. Faith requires an individual to not only trust in God himself, but to also firmly believe the scriptures and teachings from within the Bible as well. Both this knowledge and trust is very crucial to the understanding and involvement with the Catholic faith. So many people simply agree with the teachings of the Bible, but do not fully trust in its meaning. For example, every Catholic understands that Jesus was nailed to the cross and died for our salvation, but they don t believe that in the harder times in life, that Jesus will come through on this promise for us. Being humble and opening oneself up to this idea of a loving faith relationship with God is what truly defines the term above all else. A good example of this concept from scripture would be from (John 3:16) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. This type of knowledge trust relationship we have with God is a type of rational faith, or fides et ratio. We must have strongly backed reasoning for what we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. A Research On Fixed Income Investing This research has important implications for Buy and Maintain fixed income investing. While there are many more attributes to take into account when choosing fixed income securities (multiple issues per issuer based on tenor, subordination, etc.), each fixed income security has arguably less idiosyncratic factors driving its return than an equivalent equity security. When building a Buy and Maintain portfolio that is resilient to various economic environments and stages of the business cycle, one must therefore draw from the entire global fixed income market; and, the global bond universe is huge. But how many issuers are needed to achieve a well diversified Buy and Maintain portfolio? Given there are over 200 industry sectors, then if the fund manager chooses five issuers per sector to feel confident of diversifying default risk, the portfolio would need to hold a minimum of 1,000 issuers in total! Instead, the fund manager should aim to hold a minimum of 200 issuers to maximize yield and protect against both market risk (through smart sector and geographic construction) and idiosyncratic risk from any particular issuer (through smart issuer and issue selection). 14 | Buy and Maintain: A smarter approach to credit portfolio management INVESTMENT INSIGHTS Buy and Maintain: A smarter approach to credit portfolio management Choose managers with the scale to buy new issues direct Insurance companies have large enough portfolios to matter to the fund managers that regularly ... Religions tend to spread within a society and then die back down. However, there are still people amongst us who believe or may even still practice archaic religions. Some religions date back to 700 A.D such as Christianity and paganism. Over the course of hundreds of years both religions have evolved. Throughout different works of literature, people are able to understand the original aspects of these different religions. Due to the construction of this Beowulf, students and professors are able to study and get a true understanding of a pagans demeanor and how life evolves through their eyes. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf, paganism is exemplified as this epic hero falls victim to fate while embarking on his journey through life fighting monsters and chasing after his fame. To begin with, Beowulf was composed in Old English by an anonymous writer between the sixth and seventh century, and it is known for portraying the emergence of the Anglo Saxonsand their way of life. Adams David Leeming, author of The Anglo Saxons 449 1066 , stated that the island of Great Britain, secluded from the European continent, seemed perfect for the birth of legends, poets, and the belief in elves due to its rain drenched and almost always fogged weather. While he was convicted of drug trafficking, Singaporean police should have not carried out the execution for reasons such as: inhumanity and contradiction. In today s world we all want to move towards a violence free society, and I can t see how dishing out capitol punishment helps our move. It is contradicting and makes our plea for violence free seem meaningless. I believe no one deserves to die, and that we all make mistakes, some worse than others but we should all be given a second chance. Furthermore, I don t believe that executing Van Nguyen will deter future drugtraffickers from this type of behavior. Instead, what should have happened was, the Singaporean governmentshould have still sentenced Van Nguyen to a penalty, but one that will allow people to rectify their mistakes, and reflect on their choices and understand the consequences that are involved and what the effects are on others. Finally, I can understand Tony Abbot s statement, about people do need to understand that drug trafficking is a very serious offence , it is clear that while traveling overseas you are out of the Australian governments control, you leave our democracy and enter another, and it is important to familiarise yourself with other laws, but in the end, the decision made on Van Nguyen s life was unreasonable. The first component was the scientific aspect of stress and rising cortisol levels. By educating us on how our body is functioning, we can understand the importance of meditation and breathing exercises on our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Cortisol is the stress hormone that interferes with learning and memory, it lowers immune function and bone density, increases weight gain, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, etc. This hormone alerts the adrenal glands to increase the production of adrenaline; adrenaline is responsible for the fight or flight response in humans which explains why we say or do things that we don t mean to. • 27. The Right Of Privacy, By Richard Posner In The Right of Privacy, Richard Posner argues that, the law should in general accord private business information greater protection than it accords personal information. Secrecy is an important method of appropriating social benefits to the entrepreneur who creates them while in private life it is more likely to conceal discreditable facts (Posner 404). However, his argument is flawed, because it denigrates individuals, diminishing the value of their privacyin order to place the corporate world above their needs and rights. Posner s claim rests on his economic analysis, which holds that a business has greater potential for economic efficiency than an individual if its information is kept private. And it is crucial to this analysis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Posner cites the example of the Bureau of the Census, which does not have to buy the data it collects from firms or households; the cost to the individual disclosing this information is relatively small, because the government takes necessary precautions to protect those whom it surveys from creditors and tax collectors, among others. Posner recognizes that some private information that people desire to conceal is not discreditable, and grants them privacy in such cases, but still believes that people want to manipulate the world around them by selective disclosure of facts about themselves (400). Here is where the distinction between intermediate and final goods is especially important, because it is presupposed that people use privacy for a greater purpose. Because people may attempt to misrepresent themselves to get ahead, protecting individual privacy rights can be economically inefficient. He goes so far as to say that the economic case for according legal protection to [personal information] is no better than that for permitting fraud in the sale of goods (401). The research was conducted by Dr. Sian Beilock and her colleagues. Beilock is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago and an expert in, choking under pressure. Choking under pressure, refers to the phenomenon that occurs when one performs below his or her ability or skill level during an especially challenging task or experience. According to Psych Central, Beilock has done prior research that has shown pressure filled experiences or situations may reduce working memory, which is part of the brain s processing power. Our working memories allow us to recall information needed to perform everyday tasks. However, working memory has limited processing power, so when worries creep up, the ability to recall and retrieve information becomes limited. Prior research has also indicated expressive writing where individuals write about emotional or traumatic experiences repeatedly over weeks decreases worries in individuals who are depressed. The current study aimed to determine if writing in a classroom could help students perform better on tests. The compilation of stories is told by pilgrims on the journey within the narrative as part of a game proposed by the host. Each individual must tell two stories of their journey. My favorite pilgrim was the Franklin. The Franklin was a gentry landowner, member of the nobility, who had extensive holdings. He belonged to the middle class and was a man of leisure. Chaucer described him as White as a daisy petal was his beard. A sanguine man, high colored and benign (line 342 343). The Franklin sported a white beard and carried a dagger and a white silk purse. He had a cheerful personality and was confident. His only reason to be on this pilgrimage was to enjoy himself. The Franklin was traveling with the Man of Law. According to Chaucer he He loved a morning sop of cake in wine. He lived for pleasure and had always done ( line 344). I think that Chaucer had a good opinion of the Franklin. The way that Chaucer describes the Franklin makes the reader think that Chaucer likes him. He says that The Franklin is calm, strong and an overall a cheerful guy. Chaucer also proves that he thinks highly of the Franklin by saying, He was a model among landed gentry (line 369 370). He lives to please others and has a house full of food. The concept of resilience is closely associated with risk and suggests that at risk children and families are more likely to develop an adverse outcome or disorder than others, which includes poverty, unemployment, homelessness, poor health, single parenting and divorce, organisational, social, cohort and family line diversity. Given the conceptual complexities of resilience, it is important to take stock of the individual factors, family dynamics e.g. step families, adoption, fostering and environmental difficulties such as war, drought, cultural beliefs, which resilience develops. Such a conceptual framework is likely to provide a useful yet multidimensional conceptualisation of resilience. Focusing on these individual, familial, and environmental risk and protective factors, their influence on the landscape of reunification and re entry opens new avenues for exploration, which lead to more effective interventions for children and families (Rapoprt Rapoprot, 1982). The pottery of this period expresses similarities in the color and shapes to the art found amongst the indigenous cultures elsewhere in the world. Lion statues were status symbols for great dwellings that were placed outside of main entranceways to promote good and to stop evil from entering in (Feng Shui, Lam 38). In the room at the Museum they guard lacquer images and woodcarvings of Buddhas. Buddha images executed in dry lacquer were highly valued by the Chinese because of the costly time consuming process required to produce them (Metropolitan Museum wall plaque). • 45. The Warm House Spreads An Aura Of Holiday Cheer Throughout... Victoria Rosenblum Honors English 10 10/9/14 The warm house spreads an aura of holiday cheer throughout the crisp, cool air. Hoards of family members pile through the front door, with young couples stopping just below the archway for a little peck under the mistletoe. Thousands for cars line the street and I immediately notice my mother outside wearing her bright red Christmas sweater greeting all of my family. I wave and she grins and waves back pointing out a spot for my uncle to park the car. I leap out of my uncle s beat up car, officially bored out of my mind from Christmas mass. My breath creates a hazy cloud in the dark sky. The dim luminaries along the sidewalk guide me to the door, and I am greeted by my mother who kisses me on top of my forhead and greets my uncle. It s a family tradition to dress as famous Christmas characters; there s something very bizarre about seeing your cousins dressed as Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, and of course, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. After 13 long Christmases, I have thankfully gotten myself out of having to dress up as a holiday enthusiast. It s not that I m anti holiday or anything; I just don t see the point in going overboard with holiday spirit. Once inside, I meander past the piles of gifts, greeting relatives along the way. I enter the kitchen and am immediately hit with the aroma of hoagies, chips, and orange soda a feast fit for pigs. Dozens of family members surround the kitchen island, and it s a ... • 46. Similarities And Contributions And Achievements Of The... The Tang empire was originally the Sui dynasty. The Li family had seen an opportunity to take over due to an outbreak of chaos happening in the Sui dynasty, and renamed it the Tang empire. Li Shimin (r. 626 649), an emperor of this new dynasty, had decided to extend his power into Inner Asia, expanding the empire. The Tang empire had a formidable army and impressive art works that contribute to their achievements, and lasted from 618 to 907 C.E. After the decline of the Tang empire, three new states had emerged, one being the Song empire. The Song, having to pay tribute to the Liao, sided with the Jurchens to rebel against the Liao. Instead of helping the Song empire, the Jurchens took over Liao instead and turned on the Song empire. Once... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon enough, the government took away the use of paper money and replaced it with taxes and financial incentives. Although the Tang and Song had this similar achievement of credit, the empires had different forms of printing as well. The innovations of woodblock printing and movable type printing were revolutionary during the Tang and Song empire, with the invention of woodblock printing originating in the Tang empire, and movable type originating in the Song empire. Woodblock printing was a process of block printing on paper , and became widespread across China after Tang influence. Due to this widespread influence, the Song empire made a technical change to woodblock printing, and created the movable type method. This method allows the mass production of test preparation books as well as an increase in the obtainability of printed books. A political achievement similarity the Tang and Song empire share is experiencing a change in empire size. The Tang empire, originating in Central Asia had extended its power into Inner Asia, causing the empire to increase in size dramatically. Soon enough, the Tang were defeated by an army of Arabs, Turks, and Tibetans, which prevented the Tang from expanding their empire westward, resulting in growth to cease. The Song empire, also experiencing a change in empire size, had to shift south of the Yellow River due to increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. AKI Case Frederick was given a preliminary diagnosis of a prerenal AKI. AKI is a complex condition with various different definitions available, most including a rapid decline in kidney function and the lack of ability of the kidneys to filter blood, subsequently leading to increased levels of serum creatinine and BUN levels in the blood(Cheung et al., 2008). AKI is the leading cause of nephrology consultation in the UK and carries with it high mortality rates (Basile, 2012). The primary causes of an AKI are hypoxia, ischemia and nephrotoxicity. The main underlying feature of an AKI is a rapid decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is strongly linked with a decrease in blood flow to the kidneys. The GFR depends on the interplay between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is secondary to under perfusion of otherwise normally functioning kidneys and if detected early can be reversible. In Mr Jones s case, his kidney s experienced hypo perfusion during surgery. Hypo perfusion consequently causes azotemia due to the excess nitrogenous wastes in the blood. Medications, such as high doses of dopamine, can cause prerenal kidney injury due to the production of intrarenal vasoconstriction, which can lead to hypo perfusion of the glomeruli (Nissenson, 1998). The kidneys have an enormous blood supply and account for 20 25% of cardiac output. This blood supply is needed for the removal of waste products and the management of fluid and electrolyte balances. If the blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, this has a decreasing effect on the GFR leading to a decreased urine output, filtration and reabsorption of filtered material through the glomerulus. This can lead to further issues and effect other organs in the body. Fredrick experienced a decreased urine output as a symptom of his reduced GFR. Fredrick s increased respiration rate noted during assessment was an indicator of his deterioration and alerted the medical team that there was an underlying issue. During the nurse s assessment, they observed that Frederic had very poor urine output, which is also linked with the drop in the GFR in the kidneys. Thus, encouraging the nursing staff to take immediate action with thereputic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Alfie Kohn Competition Alfie Kohn states that competition by its very nature is always unhealthy and has written an essay opposing the concept. There are various examples of competition in the world today, from sports that the world watches on television, to spelling bees children in elementary and middle school participate in. Competition is a part of our daily lives whether we re aware of it or not; however, it does have its disadvantages that leads me to support Kohn s opinion. People watch sports all year long. They decide who they think is the best team and then they support that team. If they think their team is better than another, but they encounter a fan of the opposite team, hostilities ensue over their differences in opinions. But when the actual ... • 50. Section 8 Housing Case Study I chose to focus on the rent voucher/section 8 housing, because it is very common in my town and the surrounding towns I grew up in. Section 8 housing was created to help those who could afford housing, particularly for those who are low income. Voucher housing better known as section 8 housing allows low income people to live in a private market housing unit, the landlord, who is in a contract with the government, is not allowed to take anymore than 30% of your income for rent (Palen, 255). In 2000, there were more than 1.4 million families that lived in section 8 housing, but many families could not find apartments that they could afford to qualify, because their income was to high (Palen, 255). Because of the lack of section 8 apartments the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has increased the amount of apartments open to receive section 8 housing (Palen, 255). Although section 8 housing is very popular for developers and business people, many section 8 housing apartments have had many tough times because of dishonest officials (Palen, 255). The construction of new low income housing has seen its share of failures in the past , which is why rent vouchers tend to be more common rather than building a whole low income housing unit that could...
