Jackson Vs Perseus
The story Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Olympians is a similar modern day telling to
the Danaüs, Perseus and the Gorgon through events, archetypes and theme.
The two heroes in these story go through very similar events. Both Percy Jackson and Perseus fight
medusa but in different scenarios. In the text of Perseus s story it says, Perseus swooped down, and
with one deft stroke he cut off the Medusa s head. (D aulaires, 118) In Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson and his friends fight Medusa in a garden store that is filled with
statues. (Percy Jackson) This modernizes the older story because it is more realistic that Medusa
would hide in an area full of statues, since Medusa turns people into stone it is a good hiding place for
her. They both saved their mom from an evil/bad man. In the text it said, As soon as the king had
gotten rid of Perseus, he had tired to carry Danaë. (D aulaires, 120) In Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief this was modernized, Percy Jackson protects his mom from Gabe being a huge jerk.
(Percy Jackson) It would make more sense that a husband was being a jerk ... Show more content on

Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness It Essay
Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness it
Introduction:
The world is in a crisis. Traditional energy sources such as oil, coal, and natural gas are dwindling at
an alarming rate. Governments are struggling to purchase those resources in enough volume to feed
their citizens. It is becoming abundantly clear that something needs to be done to meet, and eventually
surpass current energy demands. One of the resources that is essentially unlimited is a resource called
Tidal Energy. Tidal Energy has been estimated that it can create 2110 terrawatt hours in the United
States (7) alone. That is an astonishing amount of energy.
Tidal Energy: Tidal energy is a form of energy that is formed when water rises and falls due to the

Basically this technology is floating spheres at the bottom of the ocean floor that move back and forth
with waves, capturing the kinetic energy as it moves and generates electricity. This technology
operates all the time and doesn t totally depend on the time of day to really work. Others are sunk
turbines which catch the energy as water flows through them. This technology is probably the fastest
growing technology because of the fact that it has no current environmental impacts. These
technologies don t trap silt and are easily avoidable by the local wildlife and merchant ships. Also the
material needed to build these tidal farms is much less than it would be to build a wind farm because
water us much more dense making it easier for a smaller turbine to catch and change the kinetic
energy into power that we can use. (1,2,3,4) There is also a type of technology called a tidal lagoon
that companies and governments are looking at utilizing to help produce energy. They function very
similar to barrages, except they don t need an inlet to work. These can be made along the coastlines of
islands and countries. They look a lot like little harbors stretching across the coastline. These also don
t even need to be made using artificial building materials, which cuts back on the costs of building
them. The process is the same as barrages, the sea rushes in and is held back at high tide. Then at low
tide the water is allowed to rush over turbines turning them and generating

Production Of The Automotive Industry
Selected Review of Literature: Lean Manufacturing in Automotive Industry The automotive industry
continues to grow every day. Companies are always coming out with new technology for cars to better
their product. In order for these companies to keep a competitive advantage they most implement
different types of manufacturing processes. One of these manufacturing processes is lean
manufacturing. Sundar, Balaji and Satheesh have done research on lean manufacturing, and they
define it as the elimination of waste by determining value added activities and non value added
activities. Non value added activities consist of transportation, inventory, motion waiting,
overproduction, over processing, and defects (2014). Elmoselhy has found multiple tools to be used to
implement lean manufacturing. Some of these tools are: 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Single Minute
Exchange Die, Kaizen, and Autonomation. This list does not include all of the possible ways to
implement lean manufacturing, but gives a brief introduction to a couple. The 5S stands for Sorting,
Setting, Shining, Standardizing, and Sustaining (2013). This paper will discuss one of the five S s,
which will be standardizing. Also, this paper will also go into detail about how an automotive
manufacturing company uses Single Minute Exchange Die, and some other aspects of lean
manufacturing such as visual control and environmental management. Because lean manufacturing
can be implemented in many different ways this paper

Rabbit Proof Fence Themes
Rabbit Proof Fence
Write down a few of yours own thoughts about the film Rabbit Proof Fence. How did you react to the
film? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not?
I enjoyed the film, despite how sad it was. It brought attention to an important theme and it told the
story in an exciting, yet realistic way. The fact that it was based on a real story only made it sadder. I
believe this film should be watch by all to inform about the flaws in Australia´s legal system and the
horrors experienced by the native population.
What do you think are the film s key themes and issues?
I believe the film works as a critique of Australia´s former treatment of it´s native population. The
theme is injustice, which is shown through the difference in how white and aboriginal children were
treated. The story also deals with important issues such as growing up, responsibility and family, and
how teenagers experience these things. Especially important is the focus on the way the children have
to stand up for themselves, get out of tricky situations and face challenges children should never have
to face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Stan Lee Turned the World into True Believers As humans, we are always fascinated with the
extraordinary and the fantastical. Whether its fantasies, science fiction tales, or comic books, people
have always been drawn to the adventures of men and women with amazing powers and colorful
costumes fighting evil and saving the world. Stan Lee is often considered to be the father of the
modern superhero, and it s not hard to see why. Even if you ve never heard of Stan Lee, you ve
definitely heard of the myriad of cultural icons he s created throughout the years. Spider Man, Iron
Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Thor, the X Men, as well as so many
others are all the creations of Stan Lee. Lee created so many realistic characters that combined typical
human emotions and traits with their super powers. Lee s personal writing style, attention to detail,
and his revolutionary ideas changed the idea of the superhero forever; he created ideals and themes
that have been adapted by others as well as standing the test of time to be relevant even to this day.
Born Stanley Martin Lieber, Stan Lee was born in New York City on December 28, 1922. According

Honor in Henry Iv, Part I – Falstaff vs. Hotspur
Honor In Henry IV, Part I – Falstaff vs. Hotspur
According to F. Scott Fitzgerald, The test of a first rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing
ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. Indeed, very few people have this
quality, the playwright William Shakespeare being one of them. In many of his plays, Henry IV, Part
One among them, Shakespeare juxtaposes different worldviews, ideologies, and even environments.
His characters usually provide a clear example of a split among them in one of many perspectives.
One of his characters in Henry IV —Falstaff—is first seen as an endearing, uproariously funny
scoundrel and later reveals himself more of a lowlife with his view of honor—he seems ... Show more

He says I like not such grinning honor as Sir Walter hath: give me life, which if I can save, so; if not,
honor comes unlocked for, and there s an end. (V, iii) Thus, honor is, as Falstaff says, nothing more
than a word, for it expresses a concept, which can be conveniently twisted to support whatever side of
any battle that one is on.
Hotspur, on the other hand, is always seen as honorable even though he has caused this whole war;
there is no way, therefore, for anyone to correctly say what brings honor and what dishonors. The
second time the word honor appears in the play, it is on the lips of Hotspur, who is damning the King
and urging his father and Worcester to redeem / [their] banish d honors and [to] restore [them]selves...
(I, iii). The reader can easily see Shakespeare s notion that the concept of honor and its embodiment
seldom come together in the reality of a single person—certainly the way that Hotspur wants his father
and uncle to redeem themselves (by dethroning the king) is not very honorable, yet his honor is from
battles won in the king s name. So despite his treasonous thoughts, his honor from battle remains with
him for the rest of his life, as even the prince calls him valiant. (V, i) Both Hotspur and the King
believed in the undegenerate chivalric conception of honor, which was a lofty one. Under it, trial by
battle, and war, became religious affairs. Hotspur also talks of honor as a symbol for a trophy of
victory: he

Dance Analysis
I cannot say enough how much of an honor it is to dance here at Towson. I have changed as a dancer
and as an individual. I have always been hard on myself in everything I do especially dance. When I
make a mistake I unconsciously beat myself up and push myself to work harder. Dr. Sue sat me down
one day and told me you have to believe that you are more than enough. She was basically telling me
that I was hindering myself from reaching my fullest potential. I was running myself down by working
the wrong body part. I has pushing myself physically but what really needed to change was my mental
image I had of myself. Once I was able recognize where I was and that it was ok to be there I saw

well because I had been having a good week. However, I was not in a place to receive. As dancers I

we resist. I felt the resistance even with Mrs. Candace s class. The first month of this semester modern
was very difficult for me, not because I was incapable but because I was not in a mental place to
receive. Once I change my way of thinking my dancing changed completely. After Mr. Greenstein s
class I made these connections. As a dancer I want to work on discovering how to avoid resisting a
new style. I want to learn how to approach something I do not know in the most positive way.
Sometime we can t control our reactions, so what can I do be accepting.
I am excited for my next year at Towson. This yea I felt I was put in a position to be successful. I had
to re build my foundation and go from there. I am excited to go to dance theater of Harlem this
summer, I do not think I would be as ready as I feel if I was not a dance major here at Towson. Over
the summer I want to work on control and point work. Because I have learned so much on flat I will

Samantha Young and her mom Rebecca Young never saw eye to eye. Her mom planned on breaking
the news to her that she will attend a summer camp that summer. It was almost the end of the spring
semester and Samantha would soon be on summer vacation from school. The last day of the semester
and she came from school, Samantha dashed through the mahogany double front door of their house
and ran up the steep stairs heading towards her room. From her bedroom there was a loud screeching
sound from Samantha slamming her body onto her leopard print queen size comforter, then her mom

Honey what s the matter? she asked in a concerned voice.
Samantha with her face in her pillow murmurs Nothing mom, she starts to sit upright so her mom

Abstract
Several researchers contributed to the development of psychology as a separate field of study. Their
work, along with Wundt s work, made Germany the undisputed center of the movement (Schultz,
Schultz, 2011p. 77). The world s first psychological laboratory was opened by Wilhelm Wundt in
1879 at the University of Leipzig (Schultz Schultz, 2011).When researchers started to rely on
controlled observations and experimentation to study the human mind psychology began to obtain its
own identity separate from its philosophical roots (Schultz Schultz, 2011). Scientific study was

There were three stages of behaviorism Watsonian behaviorism, Neobehaviorism, and
Sociobehaviorism. Neobehaviorism believed that the core of psychology is the study of learning, most
behavior, no matter how complex, can be accounted for by the laws of conditioning, and psychology
must adopt the principle of operationism (Schultz Schultz, 2011).
The gestalt school of thought was considered an original, undistorted, natural approach to
understanding a person s thinking, acting, and feeling. The greatest value in the Gestalt approach,
according to Perls, Hefferline and Goodman (1951, p.xi) lies in the insight that the whole determines
the parts, which contrasts with the previous assumption that the whole is merely the total sum of its
elements . Wertheimer asserted that we perceive objects in the same way we perceive apparent motion,
as unified wholes rather than clusters of individual sensations. The Gestalt principles are the basic
rules that we use to make sense of or organize our perceptual world (Schultz Schultz, 2011 p. 272).
There are six principles proximity, continuity, similarity, closure, simplicity, and figure/ground
(Schultz Schultz, 2011).
The psychoanalytic view believes that there are inner forces outside of our awareness that are causing
our behavior. Psychoanalysis main goal was to help clients release repressed feelings that might be

A Short Note On The De Un Significado
Varias

Shrek is brave, loyal, and lives up to the standards our society expects and appreciates. Shrek presents

Shrek. The refusal of the return is Shrek not wanting to bring Fiona to Lord Farquaad due to him

The Strength In The Autobiography Of Calvin Coolidge
From reading the Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge , an extremely important Coolidge value was his
strength. As the 30th president, he re established American trust in the executive branch of the
government. After the presidency of President Harding, the American public has lost their trust in him
due to the scandals such as the Teapot Dome Scandal. The people were tired from World War I and the
roaring twenties were just around the corner. From 1923 to 1929, Calvin Coolidge s presidency was
one of great accomplishments.
Coolidge s silent strength is the one value I admire the most. He was one to see what was wrong with
society and right it. His ability to see exactly what corrupted America was one to be admired. The
problems were obvious but many fail to address them straight on. From his experience with his father,
Coolidge saw that a national debt was a burden to everyone. In his presidency, he sought to decrease

Essay # 1 Summary
September 10, 2011 Caroline Bird s essay College is a Waste of Time and Money explains her beliefs
on why, for some people, going to college is an ineffective and inefficient use of their time. She states
that many students do not belong in college because they are there for the wrong reasons and they are
not happy learning. She also gives evidence to suggest that going to college and getting a degree does
not actually allows a person to make more money in their life time. Her final claim is that college does
not prepare most students for the real world and the jobs they will have once they graduate. Bird
believes most students are not in college for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bird s second point is that, contrary to popular belief, college is not the best monetary investment a
young person can make. Bird explains this by comparing the money that would be spent on education
versus money that is put in a bank for interest. The outcome shows investing money that would
otherwise be spent on a college education would earn over half a million dollars more than the
earnings of a male college graduate compared to a non graduate. Bird also states that even if a
graduate makes more money in their job than a non graduate, there is no evidence that the higher
income is due to their college education. She attributes financial success to luck rather than a college
education. In this argument she mainly puts forth logical reasons why college is not for everyone. She

Dbq Essay On Roman Culture
The United States has adopted parts of Ancient Roman culture into modern day life. Over time Rome
became the superpower of the Mediterranean controlling a vast amount of city states. Power from
trade, innovative minds, a powerful military, and influence from other cultures combined to make
Rome one of the most powerful regions of the time period. The United States has taken some aspects
of Rome s culture and has incorporated it into society making both regions similar. Roman culture was
like our own culture in the United States today because of the system of government, the use of
sporting events to escape the affairs of daily life and the funeral inscriptions on grave markers.
The United States government and the government of the Roman Republic are similar because of
checks and balances and the structure. The three branches of the United States government are
Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roman grave markers, while much simpler than grave markers that are used today, still consisted of
inscriptions to commemorate the person who passed. In the example of document four, the funeral
inscription on the gravestone read, To the gods of the [afterworld] ,To Julia Chrestes Junius Phoebion
for his wife well deserving it he made it. The Romans wrote inscriptions on the grave markers to tell a
little about the person s life and to honor them for the life they lived. Many people of the United States
adopted this same tradition in order to honor their dead. Grave markers now a days have evolved to
include the date of the person s birth and death, their full name, and a short note about their life. Like
the Romans, modern day citizens put the gravestones up in memory of the people in their lives who
have passed away. Years may have passed, but the tradition the Romans exhibited of honoring the
dead remains a prominent feature of the United States

SCIE210 Unit 5 Individual Project

From the beginning of time, there has always been wildlife. The animals and plants of our wildlife
contribute to what makes this life so interesting. If all wildlife were to go extinct, then we would not
have a way to replenish the oxygen to survive off of. All animals and plants are a part of our lifecycle
and should be respected as such.
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) was put in place to protect threatened and endangered animals and
plants. There are two agencies that equip this program, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and
the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This act was dated official ...

The Endangered Species Preservation Act of 1966 authorized the Secretary of Interior to spend $15
million per year to purchase habitats for the species on the endangered list. This act also required
protection of these species on federal land. All land belonging to the public that was not government
was not required but were encouraged to. Many benefits have come from these law acts that have been
set in place. Recovery plans have been put into place to help our animals and plants replenish. While
doing this, exemptions can and do occur. If there is a project to be done within a habitat of a listed
species, then the ESA must notify the FWS and National Marine Fisheries Service. Once listed species
reached a level of stable existence again, they were delisted. As of 2011, fifty one species had been
delisted. Any kind of harming, wounding, or killing is considered to be a violation. Violations of these
laws have a variety of penalties. The maximum fine is up to $50,000 or a year of imprisonment,
possibly both. I do absolutely believe this law has improved our societies and environments due to
helping original life to be sustained. These animals and plants were created to be on this earth. They
did not choose to be here and did not choose to be killed for human pleasure. This law has given these
listed species another chance.

Collective Bargaining And The Intervention Of Trade Unions
Collective Bargaining and A Strong Role for Unions Is Not Constructive (Advantageous) to
Organisations in Today s Economic Conditions Trade unions in Australia emerged in 1850s when
industry had its first amazingly fast development. The aim of the unions is to unite all labors to
counter the excessive power of employers so that working conditions and wages can be promoted.
This aim now has been basically realized with the establishment of awards system which sets out the
rates of pay and terms of employment. On this basis, this essay will provide evidence on that
collective bargaining and the intervention of trade unions need to be cut down in order that companies
cost can be reduced and specific circumstance can be catered to maximize ... Show more content on

Pluralism lessens the managerial prerogative but cannot take individual differences into consideration
while unitarism is the contrary (Oram, 1984). In accordance with pluralism and unitarism, there are
two ways of negotiation between the employer and the employee which are collective bargaining
(between representatives of two parties) and individual bargaining (between individual employee and
the employer). In dealing with industry relations, trade unions are always involved and collective
bargaining is used while in human resource management (HRM) individual bargaining is preferred
(Guest, 1987). The role of trade unions is much related to the social economic situation. Collective
bargaining is especially useful in fiscal crisis as two sides through negotiation can bring terms and
strategies helpful for both (Lewin et al., 2011). However, when the overall financial situation is strong,
collective bargaining is more of a tool for employees interest than for mutual profit. According to the
survey on Australian economy, its GDP growth rate is quite stable. Australian GDP expanded 1.1
percent seasonally over previous three months, which is the highest in the last seven quaters (TRADE
ECONOMICS, 2014). Trade unions showed up when workers were cruelly exploited at the start of the

Michael Pollan Leadership
Introduction: Leaders are motivators, innovators, and passionate individuals. Through their hard work
and personality, leaders are able to set goals for themselves to create positive change both on their
own and with others. Michael Pollan, an author, food activist, journalist and professor at UC Berkeley,
demonstrates and actively practices key leadership skills that I find both inspiring and thoughtful. His
system thinking approach to his own personal learning, to leading others, and his approach to health
promotion is what makes him an exemplary leader that Kouzes and Posner would approve of.
For the past 25 years Michael Pollan had dedicated his life s work towards educating others on the
importance of nature and culture, and why the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our food system, agricultural system, and healthcare system involve many stakeholders which make
any amount of positive change very difficult to accomplish, but this does not stop Michael Pollan from
pursuing and envisioning a more sustainable way of living for all people. When he first began his
work of health promotion it was during a time of food confusion and a national health crisis. He seized
that moment and 25 years later his passion and purpose for his work is still evident. He continues to
try and help others understand the connection between our health, the health of our nation, and the
health of the environment. He supports the development of new farm policies that support local
farmers rather than large industries such as the sugar industry. He also encourages people to think
about how their daily lives of consumerism perpetuate our reliance on fossil fuels and the
consequences that has on our environment (Oke, 2016). Although change occurs slowly and can
sometimes feel nonexistent, I believe the work of Michael Pollan and others like him is making a

Refractive Eye Surgery Essay
Introduction
Light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum and travels in waves. The electromagnetic
spectrum consists of many other forms of radiation including: radio waves, microwaves, infrared
waves, ultraviolet rays, x rays, and gamma rays (Sandner, 2009). Humans are only capable of
seeing the visible spectrum of light and some even have difficulties with that. However, with
technology taking a turn, many new inventions have come into existence that can help many
parts of the body, including the eyes. Optical devices/processes help us see farther and more
clearly than we can with unaided eyes (Sandner, 2009). One of these optical devices/processes is
laser vision correction. For most people with vision problems, this brand of surgery looks very
appealing to them, which can decrease or even eliminate dependency on glasses and contact
lenses (Sandner, 2009). However, there are also risks that come along with them, and those risks
can be very dangerous.
Background Research
Types of Refractive Eye Surgery
Laser vision correction consists of different types including, but not limited to: LASIK,
LASEK, PRK, and ALK. Each type of surgery is executed for different purposes such as near
sightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. According to MedicineNet.com (nd), all types of
refractive eye surgery involve the reshaping of the cornea or clearing the front part of the eye so
that light can travel through onto the retina properly focused.

Hip Hop vs Punk
The fashion aspect in Hip Hop and Punk is very distinctive. Throughout Hips Hop s history, the
fashion trends have evolved, but the concept of Hip Hop fashion has always remained conceptually
unchanged. This has given birth to a few varieties among Hip Hop fashion according to their
respective generations and choice of self expression through the four pillars of Hip Hop which are
Bboying (dance), MC/Rap (music), DJ (music) and Graffiti Art (visual art). The varieties of fashion
within the Punk culture differ from Hip Hop in a different aspect. While Hip Hop s fashion
alternatives were born from historical factors within the cultural aspects, Punk s sense of fashion

Since the establishment of the Hip Hop Culture, many dance styles have emerged during and after Hip
Hop s development, some of these styles are popping, Krumping and house. The Punk scene have also
developed dances unique to their culture, most noticeable is the Pogo. The Pogo is a dance where the
dancers jump up and down while remaining in the same location. There are occasions where the
dancers might bump each other. This gave birth to another Punk dance called Moshing where the
dancers deliberately bump against each other. The differences in dancing among Hip Hop and Punks
are not limited by the styles and music, but the community s lifestyle. Punk dancers, dance as a group
while Bboys take turns dancing in a circle. Visual arts in Hip Hop and Punk take a very different path
depending on the cultures goal. Graffiti Art is the usage of spray paint and pen markers to express
individuality through Hip Hop s philosophy of peace, love, unity and having fun by colors and
abstract texts or drawings. Punk visual art however is focused towards album covers, posters and
flyers designed to invoke empathy and sometimes contempt among readers and viewers by calling
upon issues such as social injustice. Literature and poetry are qualities that both cultures possess but
they differ in mediums. Hip Hop s literature and poetry is effectively shown the ability of the MC s

Simon Weisenthal was a renowned Nazi hunter and Author. He was born on December 31st, 1908. He
lived a heroic life and died on September 20, 2005. I am just here to explain his tales and misfortunes.
Simon started off by being born in the Ukraine, but his parents soon packed up and took him along to
Argentina. Growing up he did well in school and graduated from The Gymnasium in 1928 and applied
to the Polytechnic Institute in Lvov. Turned away because of restrictions on Jewish students, he went
to the Technical University of Prague instead, from which he received his degree in architectural
engineering in 1932. In 1936, Simon married Cyla Mueller and worked in an architectural office in
Lvov. They lived happily in their small town of Lvov ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After his life of nazi hunting, he moved back to his native land Austria. Used to his active lifestyle, he
found himself doing nothing all day. He decided to spend his time more productively by writing down
all that he remembered about being a concentration camp inmate. The book was about when he was a
concentration camp inmate, Simon was taken from his cell to the bedside of a dying member of the
SS. (Hitler s personal guards) Haunted by the crimes he has helped commit and watch in the past, he
wanted to hear a jew say that he forgives him so he could die at peace. Faced with the choice of a man
dying in peace, or silence and justice, he chose silence. The book was later published and titled

basking in the sun. He started from ground zero, pretty much like a robot. Everyday he wakes up at
the same time, eats the same lousy breakfast, works in the same factory, and sleeps at the same time.
Then eventually his camp is liberated right before the nazis started liquidating the inmates population.
Then he became a free man therefore has no restraints. Simon was also awarded many medals for his
services as a Nazi hunter. 13 states dished out medals of honor, and France, Germany, England, and

Black Economic Impotence
Black Economic Impotence: Living Under the Rules of Another He who has the gold makes the rules!
The above quote has been attributed to everyone from Jesus of Nazareth to Tyler Perry; however, the
first time I heard it was from a Jewish business man named David, who was teaching me the
principles of business and life. What he was explaining to me was the simple truth that those who don
t acquire wealth will always be at the mercy of those who do. He was addressing my proclivity to take
on the position of a renegade in dealing with many of the status quos of business. He told me that my
rebel spirit would serve me well, but only if I was able to obtain the gold. As I digress slightly, it is
important to take note that this white man took on the role of mentoring me after numerous blacks had
avoided and ignored my requests to teach me the game of business. Another role that this person
played in my life was that of the bearer of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is vital to understand that empowerment is not an exogenous transformation. Empowerment is a
process that is ignited internally and sustained autonomously. It is imperative that blacks get the gold,
if we ever expect to impact the rules of the game. To this point, those with the gold have implemented
rules that benefit them. They control the rules of engagement, and that leaves us as pawns in a game of
chess that is being played for all that is at stake. I have often said that those in power have been
playing chess while blacks having being checkers. The first time I heard that statement was sitting
across from the man who was teaching me to play chess as a kid. I think I was around eight years old.
I have since heard it used metaphorically on numerous occasions as a dual analogy. Allow me to bring

Revolutions In The Cuban Revolution
Why do revolutions occur? What actors are usually involved? This are the two central questions that
both Charles Tilley and Samuel Huntington attempt to answer by examining the reoccurring patterns
of armed resistance and collective violence. Huntington and Chase both claim that revolutions are rare
events which occur because of modernization. However, Chase and Huntington both have very
different definitions of modernization, along with different models of revolutions. Chase points to
gender ideas as central to various opposition movements within the Cuban Revolution, and she
highlights the road to a revolutionary moment in which women were pivotal (Stevens 9/18/17).
Huntington s model of revolution involves a sudden explosion of political participation due to
modernization, and revolution occurs when the established order is unable to keep up with the
demands of the newly integrated groups. I feel that Tilley provides the best model of revolutions
because he does not simply attribute armed revolutions to the undefined term of modernization, but
instead focuses on the roles of omnipresent actors involved in these revolutions (these actors being;
the government, the various contenders of power, and the polity). I would argue that his argument is
more logically sound because he points to a tangible sources of power, such as a government s
coercive apparatuses, as a revolutionary barrier which must be overcome with armed resistance and a
strong support base in order for

Bullying is one major quandary consisting of aggression with students and adults of any age through
many different forms of communication resulting in detrimental consequences. Within the article
Parental Mediation, Online Activities, and Cyberbullying, (Mesch, G., S., Ph.D., 2009), it s explaining
that bullying is a monotonous destruction perpetrated upon someone by users of such emailing,
texting, cell phones, and of slander within social networking sites. There have been several occasions
that cyberbullying has led to death of the victim of constant lies and aggression from the bully. Bullies
often just don t prey on unknown assailants, they actually know their victim through channels in their
lives. Traditional bullying can take many forms, whether it is through direct physical contact or
indirect relationally aggressive routes, such as spreading hateful rumor about a peer or excluding
others from group membership or participation (Burton, Florell, Wygant 2013, pg. 103, para 1). As we
can see a massive diversity from that of traditional bullying that is it s opened up globally spreading
like wildfire that is uncontrollable. An example of the brutality bullying has brought, can be told by
Burton, Florell, Wygant (2013), pg. 103, as they continue to point out another author s example of a
tragedy to bullying for instance, in 2006, 13 year old Megan Meier committed suicide after a neighbor

THE MEERKAT
(Suricata suricatta)
The meerkat , otherwise known as the suricate, is a small, furry member of the Mongoose family
(Herpestidae) that can stand upright. The creatures have round, fluffy bellies with smaller, more
slender limbs. Their snouts are small and pointed, coming to a sharp tip at the animal s black nose. It
lives in the African Savanna grasslands in groups of twenty five to fifty. These groups are called mobs
or manors. The female meerkat gives birth to two to five pups at a time, which are born hairless and
unable to see. The life expectancy for these pups is about twelve to fourteen years. The creatures live
in close knit webs of intertwining tunnels located underground in the sandy, Savanna soil. The tunnels

One interesting adaptation of the meerkat is its astonishing immunity to spider and scorpion venoms.
This allows it to eat a multitude of spiders and scorpions, thereby keeping the populations of these
Arachnida in check. Another adaptation is the meerkat s sharp, non retractable claws perfect for
foraging and digging in the sand. While keeping watch, meerkats must stare into the bright Savanna
sun for extended periods of time; the creatures have developed dark circles around their eyes to
minimize glare. The eyes themselves are frontward facing and offer superb peripheral vision, allowing
the meerkat to easily detect predators. Meerkats tails are very strong; the animals use them for balance
while standing. They act as a sort of third leg . While digging, the meerkat is able to completely close
its ears to keep out sand and debris.
Blending in is the meerkat s specialty. Their tawny fur with silver sheen provides excellent
camouflage given their sandy habitat, which glistens in the sun. In addition, meerkats band together to
confuse and scare off predators, forming one, massive, furry beast. Each meerkat fluffs up its fur and
hisses, creating quite a fearsome spectacle. It is hard for a predator to pick out an individual meerkat
when the whole group is so tightly packed together.
Currently the meerkat population is at a stable 500,000. Living limiting factors to the meerkat
population include eagles, hawks, and foxes.

Alternatives For Overcrowding Emergency Departments
ALTERNATIVES FOR OVERCROWDING EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS
Meeting the Challenge and Filling the Gaps in America s Healthcare System
Executive Summary: Many visits to the Emergency Department are made for non emergent needs.
This causes congestion in the healthcare system and makes it harder for those who truly need
emergent medical attention receive the care they need. Aging populations, under or non insured
patients, Medicaid expansions, and Psychiatric/Behavioral Health problems directly impact
overcrowding in the Emergency Department. Providing alternative facilities and services, and utilizing
Community Paramedicine programs will alleviate the strain overcrowding Emergency Departments
face on a regular basis.
Introduction: Overcrowding in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Federal Mandates: Annual visits to the Emergency Department in the United States grew by 40%
between 1998 and 2013 while the number of hospitals with an Emergency Department available
declined by 14% (Newhook, 2014). Emergency Medicine is the only specialty within the House of
Medicine that carries mandates from the federal government to provide care to anyone who requests
it. One such federal mandate is The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).
The EMTALA requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care and treatment to anyone
needing or requesting it, regardless of their ability to pay, legal status, and citizenship (Barish,
Mcgauly, Arnold, 2012). A survey conducted by the American Hospital Association (2010) revealed
that more than half of America s urban hospital emergency departments were at or over capacity 130
out of 168 hours in a given week. The surveyed showed non emergent visits tripled the emergent
visits.
Behavioral Health: Instance of Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Problems have significantly increased
over the last few decades. While many of the causes are unknown, Behavioral problems negatively
impact overcrowding in the emergency department. David Judge (2013) reports Mental Health related
ED visits have increased 75% between 2002 2014. The issues is not the fact there is an

Reform Movements of the Late 1800s
American society began to change in the late 1800s with movements like the Grange and Alliance.
These reform movements resulted in a new idea of populism reformation in the interest of the farmer.
The late 1800s in American society gave way to challenges like the farmers role in society, railroad
regulation for crop transportation, and economic problems about coinage that created discontent
among the American farmers; culminating in the Populist movement were reform efforts like Munn
vs. Illinois and the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. The Populist movement arose with a sense
for farmers of where they belonged. Many farmers believed that they were not getting enough credit
for what they do for society. Doctors take care of America s health and bankers take care of America s
money. Farmers began to advocate the fact that they feed all of America (Document A). This evolved
into a platform for the newly formed Populist Party. Moreover, racism seemed to arise in a whole new
manner. It was essentially holding America back both economically and politically. America, by the
farmers point of view, needed to focus on the economic problems that the whole country was facing
(Document B). Due to this everyone needs to work together attitude, farmers created the National
Colored Farmers Alliance. Farmers began to reform society to show their role in society.
Transportation of their crops through railroads was a large challenge creating discontent among the
American farmers.

  • 2. Jackson Vs Perseus The story Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Olympians is a similar modern day telling to the Danaüs, Perseus and the Gorgon through events, archetypes and theme. The two heroes in these story go through very similar events. Both Percy Jackson and Perseus fight medusa but in different scenarios. In the text of Perseus s story it says, Perseus swooped down, and with one deft stroke he cut off the Medusa s head. (D aulaires, 118) In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson and his friends fight Medusa in a garden store that is filled with statues. (Percy Jackson) This modernizes the older story because it is more realistic that Medusa would hide in an area full of statues, since Medusa turns people into stone it is a good hiding place for her. They both saved their mom from an evil/bad man. In the text it said, As soon as the king had gotten rid of Perseus, he had tired to carry Danaë. (D aulaires, 120) In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief this was modernized, Percy Jackson protects his mom from Gabe being a huge jerk. • 3. Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness It Essay Tidal Energy and the Methods to Harness it Introduction: The world is in a crisis. Traditional energy sources such as oil, coal, and natural gas are dwindling at an alarming rate. Governments are struggling to purchase those resources in enough volume to feed their citizens. It is becoming abundantly clear that something needs to be done to meet, and eventually surpass current energy demands. One of the resources that is essentially unlimited is a resource called Tidal Energy. Tidal Energy has been estimated that it can create 2110 terrawatt hours in the United States (7) alone. That is an astonishing amount of energy. Tidal Energy: Tidal energy is a form of energy that is formed when water rises and falls due to the gravitational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basically this technology is floating spheres at the bottom of the ocean floor that move back and forth with waves, capturing the kinetic energy as it moves and generates electricity. This technology operates all the time and doesn t totally depend on the time of day to really work. Others are sunk turbines which catch the energy as water flows through them. This technology is probably the fastest growing technology because of the fact that it has no current environmental impacts. These technologies don t trap silt and are easily avoidable by the local wildlife and merchant ships. Also the material needed to build these tidal farms is much less than it would be to build a wind farm because water us much more dense making it easier for a smaller turbine to catch and change the kinetic energy into power that we can use. (1,2,3,4) There is also a type of technology called a tidal lagoon that companies and governments are looking at utilizing to help produce energy. They function very similar to barrages, except they don t need an inlet to work. These can be made along the coastlines of islands and countries. They look a lot like little harbors stretching across the coastline. These also don t even need to be made using artificial building materials, which cuts back on the costs of building them. The process is the same as barrages, the sea rushes in and is held back at high tide. Then at low tide the water is allowed to rush over turbines turning them and generating ... • 4. Production Of The Automotive Industry Selected Review of Literature: Lean Manufacturing in Automotive Industry The automotive industry continues to grow every day. Companies are always coming out with new technology for cars to better their product. In order for these companies to keep a competitive advantage they most implement different types of manufacturing processes. One of these manufacturing processes is lean manufacturing. Sundar, Balaji and Satheesh have done research on lean manufacturing, and they define it as the elimination of waste by determining value added activities and non value added activities. Non value added activities consist of transportation, inventory, motion waiting, overproduction, over processing, and defects (2014). Elmoselhy has found multiple tools to be used to implement lean manufacturing. Some of these tools are: 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Single Minute Exchange Die, Kaizen, and Autonomation. This list does not include all of the possible ways to implement lean manufacturing, but gives a brief introduction to a couple. The 5S stands for Sorting, Setting, Shining, Standardizing, and Sustaining (2013). This paper will discuss one of the five S s, which will be standardizing. Also, this paper will also go into detail about how an automotive manufacturing company uses Single Minute Exchange Die, and some other aspects of lean manufacturing such as visual control and environmental management. I enjoyed the film, despite how sad it was. It brought attention to an important theme and it told the story in an exciting, yet realistic way. The fact that it was based on a real story only made it sadder. I believe this film should be watch by all to inform about the flaws in Australia´s legal system and the horrors experienced by the native population. What do you think are the film s key themes and issues? I believe the film works as a critique of Australia´s former treatment of it´s native population. The theme is injustice, which is shown through the difference in how white and aboriginal children were treated. The story also deals with important issues such as growing up, responsibility and family, and how teenagers experience these things. Especially important is the focus on the way the children have to stand up for themselves, get out of tricky situations and face challenges children should never have to face. ... • 10. Honor in Henry Iv, Part I – Falstaff vs. Hotspur Honor In Henry IV, Part I – Falstaff vs. Hotspur According to F. Scott Fitzgerald, The test of a first rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. Indeed, very few people have this quality, the playwright William Shakespeare being one of them. In many of his plays, Henry IV, Part One among them, Shakespeare juxtaposes different worldviews, ideologies, and even environments. His characters usually provide a clear example of a split among them in one of many perspectives. One of his characters in Henry IV —Falstaff—is first seen as an endearing, uproariously funny scoundrel and later reveals himself more of a lowlife with his view of honor—he seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says I like not such grinning honor as Sir Walter hath: give me life, which if I can save, so; if not, honor comes unlocked for, and there s an end. (V, iii) Thus, honor is, as Falstaff says, nothing more than a word, for it expresses a concept, which can be conveniently twisted to support whatever side of any battle that one is on. Hotspur, on the other hand, is always seen as honorable even though he has caused this whole war; there is no way, therefore, for anyone to correctly say what brings honor and what dishonors. The second time the word honor appears in the play, it is on the lips of Hotspur, who is damning the King and urging his father and Worcester to redeem / [their] banish d honors and [to] restore [them]selves... (I, iii). The reader can easily see Shakespeare s notion that the concept of honor and its embodiment seldom come together in the reality of a single person—certainly the way that Hotspur wants his father and uncle to redeem themselves (by dethroning the king) is not very honorable, yet his honor is from battles won in the king s name. So despite his treasonous thoughts, his honor from battle remains with him for the rest of his life, as even the prince calls him valiant. (V, i) Both Hotspur and the King believed in the undegenerate chivalric conception of honor, which was a lofty one. Under it, trial by battle, and war, became religious affairs. Hotspur also talks of honor as a symbol for a trophy of victory: he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have always been hard on myself in everything I do especially dance. When I make a mistake I unconsciously beat myself up and push myself to work harder. Dr. Sue sat me down one day and told me you have to believe that you are more than enough. She was basically telling me that I was hindering myself from reaching my fullest potential. The gestalt school of thought was considered an original, undistorted, natural approach to understanding a person s thinking, acting, and feeling. The greatest value in the Gestalt approach, according to Perls, Hefferline and Goodman (1951, p.xi) lies in the insight that the whole determines the parts, which contrasts with the previous assumption that the whole is merely the total sum of its elements . Wertheimer asserted that we perceive objects in the same way we perceive apparent motion, as unified wholes rather than clusters of individual sensations. The Gestalt principles are the basic rules that we use to make sense of or organize our perceptual world (Schultz Schultz, 2011 p. 272). There are six principles proximity, continuity, similarity, closure, simplicity, and figure/ground (Schultz Schultz, 2011). Varias ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

College Is a Waste of Time and Money Essays Hayley Drummond Professor Dill Tuesday, Thursday 8:00 9:15 Essay # 1 Summary September 10, 2011 Caroline Bird s essay College is a Waste of Time and Money explains her beliefs on why, for some people, going to college is an ineffective and inefficient use of their time. She states that many students do not belong in college because they are there for the wrong reasons and they are not happy learning. She also gives evidence to suggest that going to college and getting a degree does not actually allows a person to make more money in their life time. Her final claim is that college does not prepare most students for the real world and the jobs they will have once they graduate. Bird believes most students are not in college for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bird s second point is that, contrary to popular belief, college is not the best monetary investment a young person can make. Bird explains this by comparing the money that would be spent on education versus money that is put in a bank for interest. The outcome shows investing money that would otherwise be spent on a college education would earn over half a million dollars more than the earnings of a male college graduate compared to a non graduate. Bird also states that even if a graduate makes more money in their job than a non graduate, there is no evidence that the higher income is due to their college education. She attributes financial success to luck rather than a college education. In this argument she mainly puts forth logical reasons why college is not for everyone. She shows actual dollar amounts that logically prove an education is not necessarily the most profitable investment. Bird s final point is that college does not prepare most people for the jobs they are going to have in the future. She states the work attached to most jobs is totally unrelated to their college education. For example, although there are many graduates with a psychology degree, there are only so many jobs in psychology. The remaining graduates are forced to find jobs with work unrelated to the degree they have obtained. Also, she brings up the point that college does not make people intelligent and successful, but successful and intelligent people go to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Humans are only capable of seeing the visible spectrum of light and some even have difficulties with that. However, with technology taking a turn, many new inventions have come into existence that can help many parts of the body, including the eyes. Optical devices/processes help us see farther and more clearly than we can with unaided eyes (Sandner, 2009). One of these optical devices/processes is laser vision correction. For most people with vision problems, this brand of surgery looks very appealing to them, which can decrease or even eliminate dependency on glasses and contact lenses (Sandner, 2009). • 30. Revolutions In The Cuban Revolution Why do revolutions occur? What actors are usually involved? This are the two central questions that both Charles Tilley and Samuel Huntington attempt to answer by examining the reoccurring patterns of armed resistance and collective violence. Huntington and Chase both claim that revolutions are rare events which occur because of modernization. However, Chase and Huntington both have very different definitions of modernization, along with different models of revolutions. Chase points to gender ideas as central to various opposition movements within the Cuban Revolution, and she highlights the road to a revolutionary moment in which women were pivotal (Stevens 9/18/17). Huntington s model of revolution involves a sudden explosion of political participation due to modernization, and revolution occurs when the established order is unable to keep up with the demands of the newly integrated groups. I feel that Tilley provides the best model of revolutions because he does not simply attribute armed revolutions to the undefined term of modernization, but instead focuses on the roles of omnipresent actors involved in these revolutions (these actors being; the government, the various contenders of power, and the polity). I would argue that his argument is more logically sound because he points to a tangible sources of power, such as a government s coercive apparatuses, as a revolutionary barrier which must be overcome with armed resistance and a strong support base in order for ... • 33. Organisms of the African Savanna Essay THE MEERKAT (Suricata suricatta) The meerkat , otherwise known as the suricate, is a small, furry member of the Mongoose family (Herpestidae) that can stand upright. The creatures have round, fluffy bellies with smaller, more slender limbs. Their snouts are small and pointed, coming to a sharp tip at the animal s black nose. It lives in the African Savanna grasslands in groups of twenty five to fifty. These groups are called mobs or manors. The female meerkat gives birth to two to five pups at a time, which are born hairless and unable to see. The life expectancy for these pups is about twelve to fourteen years. One interesting adaptation of the meerkat is its astonishing immunity to spider and scorpion venoms. This allows it to eat a multitude of spiders and scorpions, thereby keeping the populations of these Arachnida in check. Another adaptation is the meerkat s sharp, non retractable claws perfect for foraging and digging in the sand. While keeping watch, meerkats must stare into the bright Savanna sun for extended periods of time; the creatures have developed dark circles around their eyes to minimize glare. The eyes themselves are frontward facing and offer superb peripheral vision, allowing the meerkat to easily detect predators. Meerkats tails are very strong; the animals use them for balance while standing. They act as a sort of third leg . While digging, the meerkat is able to completely close its ears to keep out sand and debris. Blending in is the meerkat s specialty. Their tawny fur with silver sheen provides excellent camouflage given their sandy habitat, which glistens in the sun. In addition, meerkats band together to confuse and scare off predators, forming one, massive, furry beast. Each meerkat fluffs up its fur and hisses, creating quite a fearsome spectacle. It is hard for a predator to pick out an individual meerkat when the whole group is so tightly packed together. Currently the meerkat population is at a stable 500,000. Living limiting factors to the meerkat population include eagles, hawks, and foxes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Reform Movements of the Late 1800s American society began to change in the late 1800s with movements like the Grange and Alliance. These reform movements resulted in a new idea of populism reformation in the interest of the farmer. The late 1800s in American society gave way to challenges like the farmers role in society, railroad regulation for crop transportation, and economic problems about coinage that created discontent among the American farmers; culminating in the Populist movement were reform efforts like Munn vs. Illinois and the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. The Populist movement arose with a sense for farmers of where they belonged. Many farmers believed that they were not getting enough credit for what they do for society. Doctors take care of America s health and bankers take care of America s money. Farmers began to advocate the fact that they feed all of America (Document A). This evolved into a platform for the newly formed Populist Party. Moreover, racism seemed to arise in a whole new manner. It was essentially holding America back both economically and politically. America, by the farmers point of view, needed to focus on the economic problems that the whole country was facing (Document B). Due to this everyone needs to work together attitude, farmers created the National Colored Farmers Alliance. Farmers began to reform society to show their role in society.
