Analysis Of Ann Marie Macdonald s Fall On Your Knees
The extraordinarily horrible stories of multiple families connected together through love, marriage,
and friendship, all slowly unravel in Ann Marie MacDonald s award winning novel, Fall on Your
Knees . The story begins with Materia Mahmoud eloping with James Piper, who both move to a
small Village together in Nova Scotia where they raise a familyof girls, all of very different
personalities. Materia always tries to be the best mothershe can be, and James is a good man who
had an unfortunate upbringing, which eventually corrupts his morals later on when he has his own
family. Through various events in the story, three basic archetypes become very evident in the main
characters. These three archetypes include the Nurturer, the Outlaw, and the Explorer, which all
become very obvious, quite early in the story. The first archetype seen in this story, the Nurturer, is
revealed in two characters: Materia and her second daughter Mercedes. The Nurturer is responsible,
organized, and loving, and is very good at taking care of others. Materia is not moulded into a
nurturer until she has her second child, Mercedes. Materia has trouble loving her first daughter
Kathleen and is never very successful in doing so. Although she lacks the affectionate aspect of
the nurturer at first, she learns to take care of her family through cooking for them (MacDonald,
60) and keeping everything and everyone clean and happy, to the best of her abilities. Once
Mercedes is born, Materia gains the

Growing Up In A Small Town
Imagine a world where there is no longer any local farms or farmers, a world where Ag is no
longer offered in high school, FFA is no longer the backbone for agricultural education, and buying
locally grown produce at your local supermarket is no longer an option. For those of us who have
grown up with these great benefits and opportunities of living in a small town, probably can t
imagine what it would be like. I personally will be greatly affected by this. The thought of
urbanization taking the heart and soul out of small rural towns is crushing. Growing up in a small
town has made me who I am today.
The world that we have grown up in is changing. By the year 2050, nearly 80% of the earth s
population will reside in urban areas. This will

The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay
The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this
life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime
components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences
affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting
and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure
Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only
component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is
considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative
margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either
normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal
Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for
long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement
predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes
increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation
embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning
nuclear piping the main degradation

Arctic Vs. Antarctica
Have you ever misapprehended the Arctic and Antarctica for the same thing? If you have, the
mistake is reasonable. They both have extremely cold temperatures and are just on opposite sides
of the globe. They have snow all year, and fantasies are made about igloos and eskimos. Although
there are similarities, there are two sides to the same coin.
Antarctica is a continent that is used for more of scientific study and holds 90% of earth s ice.
Antarctica is one big continent, meaning there are no other parts to Antarctica. Antarctica has even
reached the nice and breezy 128.6 degrees F. Henceforth, there are not many animals in Antarctica.
Both continents have extremely cold temperatures, and have two seasons instead of four. They

Avantieme and the Transit of Tomorrow
Avantieme is an island off the coast of Australia where the ocean scintillates and the national parks
bask in the shade. Three main parks take refuge in Avantieme, housing about 58 species of
endangered animals. Although the parks limit the living space of Avantieme, they are far too rare
and meaningful to be destroyed. Centuries ago, we drove cars contaminated with pollution, but
now Avantieme has pioneered the way to a cleaner and more dynamic way of transporting the
commuter with the innovative Herron. There are several solutions to digress from the modern
polluting ways of the car, but one of the easiest and most efficient is the usage of hydrogen to
power the insurgent Hare pods. The Hares uses a polymer exchange membrane fuel cell... Show

One pound of hydrogen produces 52,000 BTU (British Thermal Unit), three times that in a pound
of gasoline. The hydrogen powered Hare is a computer automated vehicle, that uses frequencies and
a geographic mapping system to guide it. The Hare has two antennas on the top, the former sending
out frequencies and the latter acting as a backup. The frequencies will detect the cars around them
and any unrecognized objects. It also uses the RGMS, or Repetitive Geographic Mapping System,
to give pinpoint accuracy to the computer. The RGMS are cars that parole Avantiemie every day,
taking pictures of the roads and pathways as they go. They then, take the data they retrieved to the
main building. This building collects and stores the data in their database and constantly sends
them out to the Hares GPS. They keep an updated picture of roads as guide and safety backup to the
antennas. Avantieme citizens craved a manual driving feature, but with a much more advanced
computer system driving the car, traffic is limited and virtually no collisions occur. After some
compelling arguments, transportation engineers eventually decided against the manual overdrive.
Before vetoing the idea, transportation engineers had a test run with the VTS (Variegation Track
System) manual overdrive option. At first, it was a very enticing option, but as the tests continued,
the manual overdrive proved too dangerous for commercial use. The VTS had some

Examples Of Allusions In Secret Life Of Bees
Biblical Allusion 1 The Virgin Mary An allusion is a literary device to express a reference to
another piece of media. Allusions are used frequently in A Secret life of Bees to influence the
characters personality traits and underlying story themes. In the novel, Sue Mon Kidd uses
constant allusions to the Virgin Mary. She writes using Lily s voice, Looking back on it now, I
want to say the bees were sent to me. I want to say they showed up like the angel Gabriel
appearing to the Virgin Mary, setting events in motion I could never have guessed. Page 2. This
is an example of a biblical allusion. The Virgin Mary was the virgin mother of Jesus Christ. She
was a 1st century BC Galilean Jewish woman of Nazareth according to the New Testament and
the Holy Quran. In the novel Secret Life of Bees, she is often cited as the blessed Mary or blessed
among women by the followers of Mary. How does it connect to Lily?... Show more content on

for a female figure of guidance, she is attracted to The Black Madonna s prospective to fill that
empty gap. When she visits the statue late into the night, Lily thinks: I live in a hive of darkness,
and you are my mother, I told her. You are the mother of thousands.

The Music Of A Christmas Carol
about it (Gaskell 18). James, who is another servant, tells Hester that she has mistaken the wind
soughing among the trees for music (Gaskell 17). Hester must force Agnes, by way of rank, to
reveal that it is believed that the dead old lord , plays the organ (Gaskell 18). Miss Furnivall is
first connected with the music, when Hester claims that she thought it was her playing the organ
(Gaskell 18). Being that Miss Furnivall is deaf, and is therefore an unlikely musician, this insinuates
that Miss Furnivall is connected to this problem. However similar to A Christmas Carol, the music
is suggested to be derived from ghostly means, because the organ is found to be broken inside,
therefore unable to be played normally (Gaskell 18). This thought is later underlined when the
child, Rosamond, goes missing, and ghosts threaten the household, further emphasizing that a
problem exists (Gaskell 20,24).
Music is suggested many ways to cause her problems between Miss Furnivall and her sister,
Miss Maude, rather than aid the sisters in a solution. Both sisters fell in love with the same man,
a foreign musician, whom their father had down from London to play music (Gaskell 26). The
sisters develop a rivalry over the foreigner (Gaskell 27). The foreigner is never given a name
because it is suggested that he is not consequential as a person, but rather as a problem between
the sisters. As he is of lower rank and not British, he is developed to play on Victorian fears, and

The Complex Layers Within the Little Mermaid
Fairy tales convey political, moral, and social lessons through characters, relationships and setting.
They originate from an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation often in a varied
form, drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as the Bible and mythology. As societies
gained access to the printed word, fairy tales became less changeable and tended to focus on
characters who were transitioning from childhood to adulthood (Abler). Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
became renowned for their collection of fairy tales which have been disseminated worldwide and
translated into a hundred and sixty different languages during the Romantic period of the nineteenth
century (Abler). They often changed tales from their original versions to get rid of sexual
undertones and horrific violence against innocent characters, injecting their interpretation of
Christian morality into the subtext. Laced with various complex layers, the original tale of The
Little Mermaidis imbued with poignant cultural meaning. Sirenetta, the young mermaid
protagonist, dwells in a kingdom under the sea with her older sisters, but desires to become human
after she falls in lovewith a prince whom she saves from drowning (Brothers Grimm4). She
implores the Witch of the Deep for help to get human legs but sacrifices her voice and accepts that
every step she takes will be excruciatingly painful (5). Sirenetta and the prince fall in love, but
ultimately the prince is ordered to marry another woman

most persuasive out of all the commercials because they used humor, and they were still very

The Finest Hours Analysis
Overall, the young adult version of The Finest Hours is not my type of book. This nonfiction
informational text was written by Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman. It was published in
New York, NY by Scholastic Inc in the year of 2014. The Finest Hours is the true story of a
heroic sea rescue. Not one, but two T2 Tankers split in half during one of the biggest nor easters
the Coast Guard had ever seen. More than 80 seamen were stranded aboard the two massive
vessels. However, the rescue, surprisingly, comes down to a group of coasties from Chatham,
MA. Bernie, a 24 year old coasty, and his crew knowingly volunteer to go out into the perilous
seas to try to rescue them, riding only on a miniature 26 foot lifeboat and constantly being battered
around by 70 foot waves! Will they survive or be crushed by the mighty relentless ocean.... Show

The authors do indeed achieve this purpose but not without a lot of repetition and a few dull
chapters. Also, surprisingly the characters do not consider themselves heroes they are simply
doing their job. However, it starts off kind of slow. The first five or so chapters are pretty much
all about describing the characters and are full of repetition. But, once you start reading it gets
better. Overall, The Finest Hours wasn t that good at the beginning but it got a lot better by the
end. However, I don t really like nonfiction books so I probably would have never picked this book
up off the shelf. But, if you are a teen and enjoy nonfiction disaster stories or books involving
heroic rescues then you would probably savor this book. To conclude, I would rate this book
around a 2.7 out of 5

Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado
The American Romantic/ Gothic period was basically the Renaissance of American literature.
American romantics were influenced by eras that before them, and their writings were a different
reaction against the philosophy of the previous eras. With this being said, American Romanticism
grew from salvation, and guilt, as they excitedly developed their own unique style of writing.
American romantic authors had a strong sense of general identity and pride in being American. For
this reason, American authors during this time had a discrete desire to develop their own unique
character separate from British literature. In order to accomplish this goal, the poet Edgar Allan Poe
was rebellious and personal in his writing; and this explains the extraordinary creativity found
throughout his work. Edgar Allan Poe had a unique and dark form writing style the mysterious
style of writing showed emotion and drama. He used the themes of Gothic, death of the women he
loved, and good vs. evil. These forms of writing styles are shown in The Cask of Amontillado , The
Raven , and Tell Tale Heart. It demonstrates all the major aspects of the American Romantic
revolution: rejection of classicism, eager naivety, and unusual detachment regarding time and space.
The story of The Cast of Amontillado is a classic Gothic horror tale of a mad man wanting
revenge. This short story can be quite frightening, because the narrator is able to keep a calm voice
during his manipulation and killing of

Art At The Blanton Museum Of Art
On September 19, 2015 I visited the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas in Austin,
where I observed The Raising of Lazarus by Joachim Wtewael in the European Old Masters gallery.
The piece recreates the biblical narrative of Lazarus resurrection and demonstrates the exorbitant
style of Mannerism popular during the 16th century. Wtewael establishes the significance of the
Christ with his application of form through the use of unrealistic contortions of the people, the lines
following the exaggerated limbs of the congregation, and the abundant use of the colorredon almost
every article of clothing. In the foreground of the painting, a crowd of people gather around the
recently resurrected Lazarus. There are roughly fifteen individuals in the crowd in a variety of
postures, many of which are contorted and turned away. Furthermore, their forms are painted with
considerable emphasis on the way that their respective limbs are bent and twisted which
consequently creates a peculiar confined space in which much of the content and action is
contained. The outstretched arms and warped bodies of the figures create two diagonal lines which
cross over each other in the center of the painting, leading the eye to the primary subject and the
focal point, Lazarus. To the left of him is a younger woman looking outwards, contrasting with the
focused inward gaze of the crowd. Additionally, the same women mentioned previously also dons a
striking white garment similar to that of

The Use of Vitamins to Battle Acne

Cod liver oil, believe it or not, is a potent Vitamin A resource. Read the label to be well informed,
ensuring that it was processed with low oxygen and was vacuum distilled. This will keep it from
going rancid.
People lacking vitamin A are prone to dry, scaly skin, vision difficulty, especially at night, infants
may suffer growth defects, and women who are trying to conceive may experience difficulty.
Excessive amounts again, moderation is key. Vitamin A in excess can cause headaches, nausea, hair
loss, bone growth deficiency that could lead to abnormalities, and liver damage.
Vitamin B, the Supplement the Food Sources
Like vitamin A, vitamin B is significant to healthy skin. Several B vitamin supplements are on the
market that are used specifically to combat the effects of acne, and they include Thiamin, vitamin

Royal Bodies
Royal Bodies
Royal Bodies is a speech by Hilary Mantel, an award winning and bestselling English writer.
Hilary Mantel, born in 1952, is particularly famous for her historical novels. On February 21 2013,
at a book lecture at the British Museum, she held a speech, in which she commented on the British
monarchy.
Hilary Mantel starts her speech by telling how she, last summer, was asked to name a famous
person and choose a book to give them. She chose Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, a jointed doll
on which certain rags are hung . This is a good way to start the speech because Hilary Mantel has
now introduced her real purpose with the speech: to discuss the effect of monarchy.
Hilary tells how she at a book trade event at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this quote she indicates that the royal family are like trapped caged animals that the public never
really know, and that that is something perhaps to be regretted. The royal family is, according to
Hilary, a thing that is expensive to conserve, but interesting to look at and that is also the only
reason that they exist.
Today monarchy has become an attraction, which flashes every side of the royal family. Hilary
Mantel believes that we are looking at royalties as if they were figures or dolls, who we can treat
as we want to. We always have a comment to what they are wearing, if they look good or not, what
they are doing right or wrong etc. We are allowing monarchy to treat its persons as entertainment
objects.
I m not asking for censorship. I m not asking for pious humbug and smarmy reverence. I m
asking us to back off not be brutes . In this quote Hilary says that we need to stand back, and this
is clearly her goal with her speech. We need to allow the royalties to be humans as well.
Hilary Mantel s speech is tendentious and personal, because only one her own opinion is
presented. Looked at the speech objectively it is weak because of the lack of proof, since she is
only arguing with her own personal opinion.
In the speech there is an illustration of Paul Emsley s portrait of Kate Middleton. She describes it
like this: But in her first

The Most Important Composers Of The Nineteenth Century

The Comparison Of Kim Jong-Un And Dennis Rodman
Kim Jong un and Dennis Rodman s friendship is an unusual relationship that the ordinary American
doesn t understand. Kim Jong un, Supreme Leader of North Korea and Dennis Rodman, former
National Basketball Association, NBA, player, on the surface, don t seem to have any reason to be
friends. The United States has had a negative opinion of communist North Koreaever since the
Korean War. Even though the Korean War technically ended in a ceasefire, troubles between North
and South Korea, one of the U.S. allies, never stopped (Tharoor). Because of these tensions with
North Korea, most U.S. citizens have grown up hearing North Korea and communism are bad.
However, this didn t seem to influence Dennis Rodman. Even after receiving backlash for his
friendship with Kim Jong un, Rodman has still tried to bridge the gap in his own unique way
between the two countries. His unconventional efforts have not worked, showing that the
relationship between Kim Jong un, and Dennis Rodman, is nothing more than a friendship between
two colorful people.
Tensions between the United States and North Korea were caused by the freeing of Korea from
Japan, and later tensions were raised by the Korean War (Kim). Even though the Korean War

Despair, hopelessness, fear and apathy are all ways a human can lose their humanity. The eyes

Elie s father loses his strength quickly, his eyes [grew] dim (46) almost immediately after
arriving. The horrors which he had seen were easily enough to crush the spirit of a former
community leader. His disbelief of the horrors he saw questioned the very basis of his soul, and
he began to despair. His father s eyes soon become, veiled with despair (81), as he loses hope for
survival. The despair of camp life shrouds the human within, showing only another cowed
prisoner. Elie s father no longer can see hope, having his vision clouded by cruelty and hate. Elie
s father is eventually overwhelmed by despair; he, would not get up. He knew that it was useless

this treatment destroyed the person inside the body. He could no longer summon the strength to

By the end, the only emotion left among the prisoners is fear. The prisoners desire food more than
anything, two cauldrons of soup are there for the taking, but who would dare? (66). The prisoners
are crushed by the fear of death or pain, and drop their hope and desire, having lost the last vestiges
of humanity. Without their humanity, the only thing that matters to them is satisfaction of bodily

GVAHEC Staff Meeting
For this week internship, I have attended GVAHEC staff meeting on Monday September 11 at
apache Junction location. They usually do staff meeting every first Monday of the month to discuss
about their organization, but for this month, they had to postponed the meeting to the second
Monday of the month due to unavailability of some staff members. The purpose of the meeting was
to discuss how to make the organization function better. One thing that they focused on during the
meeting was the sponsorship opportunity. They want to look for more agencies that can fund their
organization. So, some people came up with new idea, which has been taken into consideration. I

Remember that one of GVAHEC s missions is to educate underserved population about healthy
behavior. One staff member attended excel training, she also shared her knowledge about how to
protect their system from hackers. Another person attended community health graduation.
GVAHEC provides support to healthcare students who have financial problem, so, some of their
students have graduated. I think this meeting was very useful to me because I have learned
some new things. For example, I have learned how to look for fund raising opportunity, so, in
the future, if I work with an organization that needs sponsor, I think I can help. I have also
learned through this meeting that when I will be working with this type organization, it is very
important to learn new things from other organizations that will help my organization to prosper.
On Wednesday September 13, I went to the Phoenix location. We have finished our project
regarding St Mary s food bank presentation. So, two weeks from now, we will be presenting. I
have learned many things through this project. For example, in my future career, if I am asked to

Age Of Art Research Paper
The Age of Art What happened in 1930? Several well known events took place in that time. The
great depression, the age of art, the Nobel Prize, and different types of films and superhero comics
had been written. Today I m presenting the age of art, print, film and radio. First I will explain
print. During the 1930swas the great depressionas well. American writers responded to this problem
with multiple stories. Some wrote about the social change, and some the American suffrage. Others
documented and decided to try and understand the nation in crises, but with a bleak view of it.
These stories had totally opposite vantage points. But with one thing in common. They all had the
urge to describe the American experience. Others felt something... Show more content on

Film was also known as movies. During the depression, directors and some actors brainstormed
for film to make, trying to stay off the street. Warner Brothers made self conscious movies,
which became quickly famous. Such as Heroes for Sale, and They won t Forget. Paramount was
known to have stylish witty projects, such as Cleopatra starring Cecil B. DeMilles, and the
Angel starring Ernst Lubitsch and Marlene Dietrich. Another director named Metro Goldwyn
Mayer was a master with writing screwball comedies and also light thrillers; they are The Thin
Man, and Frankenstein. That people have loved so much, we still watch them today. Different
varieties were coming out during this terrible time in history. So under studio system, people

B movies were more cheapie films. And every week a B film went out, it was a fifty/ fifty
whether it would be a hit. They were often used though for experiments and were aimed for the
smaller audiences. During this hard times like war, or for this instance the great depression people
needed to be entertained. And in 1930 was no exception. The people loved several forms of
entertainment, particularly if it s inexpensively. With the addition of sound, films became
extremely popular. Comedies, gangster movies, and musicals helped people to calm down and

Essay on Celiac Disease
Nature of the disease Celiac disease is a fairly common disease but is not very well known.
Celiac disease, or celiac sprue, is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein
gluten (Hill, Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of celiac disease in children, 2011). Gluten is a
protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats. People with celiac disease who eat foods containing
gluten experience an immune reaction in their small intestines, causing damage to the inner surface
of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients (Hill, Clinical manifestations and
diagnosis of celiac disease in children, 2011). The small intestine is responsible for absorbing food
and nutrients. Thus, damage to the lining of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symptoms adults experience are much the same as the children experience without the
stunning of growth and affect on puberty. Some adults having a mild form of the disease exhibit
almost no symptoms. Others may experience a loss or gain in appetite, abdominal pain, bloating,
gas or indigestion. In addition, other people have bothersome symptoms including diarrhea, weight
loss, abdominal discomfort, and excessive gas caused by vitamin and nutrient deficiencies (The
Mayo Clinic staff, 2011). If a person is not absorbing nutrients adequately, a blood test will detect
this lack of nutrient absorption resulting in the decreased of iron absorption. Also, this inability to
absorb certain nutrients may cause vitamin deficiencies. These deficiencies deprive the brain,
peripheral nervous system, bones, liver and other organs of vital nourishment (Dugdale III,
Longstreth, Zieve, 2010). Causes The exact cause of celiac disease is not known, but scientists
have found that it is genetic, meaning that if someone in your family has celiac then you have a
high percent chance of having it too (The Mayo Clinic Staff, 2011). Even though there is no known
cause of this disease, scientists do know that in a person without celiac the

Marbury Versus Madison
| | | | Marbury versus Madison Sarah McClam MARBURY VERSUS MADISON In the weeks
after John Adams lost his bid for re election to Thomas Jefferson in 1800, the Federalist Congress
increased the number of circuit courts. Adams placed Federalist judges in these new positions. One
of the justices of the peace, William Marbury, filed a writ of mandamus demanding Secretary of
State James Madison deliver the appointments. The Supreme Court led by John Marshall denied the
request citing part of the Judiciary Act of 1789 as unconstitutional. This historic court case

As part of the Revolution of 1800, President Thomas Jefferson and his Democratic Republican
followers launched a series of attacks against the Federalist controlled courts. The new
Democratic Republican controlled Congress easily eliminated most of the midnight judges by
repealing the Judiciary Act in 1802. They impeached Supreme Court justice Samuel Chase, but
acquitted him amidst inner party squabbles. The Chase acquittal coupled with Marshall s
impeccably argued decision put an end to the Jeffersonian attack (Marbury verses Madison,
1803). Some of the issues that came up and the ruling were as followed: 1. Does Marbury have a
right to the commission? Yes. Marbury has a right to the commission. The order granting the
commission takes effect when the Executive s constitutional power of appointment has been
exercised, and the power has been exercised when the last act required from the person
possessing the power has been performed. The grant of the commission to Marbury became
effective when signed by President Adams. 2. Does the law grant Marbury a remedy? Yes. The
law grants Marbury a remedy. The very essence of civil liberty certainly consists in the right of
every individual to claim the protection of the laws whenever he receives an injury. One of the first
duties of government is to afford that protection. Where a specific duty

Don T Give Up The Fight And Susan B. Anthony Dares To Vote
The stories Don t Give Up the Fight and Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote share a common theme
which is perseverance. In the story Don t Give Up the Fight, Ava is being bullied by the boys on
the track team, because she is the only girl. Susan in Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote, shows
perseverance because, she had to speak up even though she would get arrested. While both of the
stories share a common theme the character s actions are very different. The story Susan B. Anthony
Dares to Vote, Susan fights for women s rights using speech. While Ava, in the story Don t Give
Up the Fight, raced one of the boys on the track team making her use physical activity to redeem
herself.
In Don t Give Up the Fight perseverance is showed in most of the text. For example, Jacob a boy
on the track team said If you beat me to the tree I believe you. This is important to notice
because, this shows that Jacob thinks that Ava can t win any races. Also, the boys were making
fun of her on the bus because she was very quiet. So, the boys asked, Are you dead? Because Ava
didn t answer the boys the first time. But, what really hurt her was when she saw coach McCoy

Also, Susan said I am here for a little time only, and then my place will be filled... The fight must
not cease. You must see that is does not stop. Failure is impossible. This shows that through all of
Susan s hard work she never gave up. This is how Susan B. Anthony shows perseverance in the

The Effects Of Make Up And Body Image
This persuasive essay is going to be on the effects of using, and problems with make up and body
image on teenagers. These affect teenager s self esteem and make the teens have a vision of
being perfect in every way. Most teens now have a vision of the body image that models and
celebrity induce and some teenagers think if they are anything less than these front cover
models they are ugly. One website explains body image as Body image is how you view your
physical self including whether you feel you are attractive and whether others like your looks.
When people feel their body is ugly or that they are too short or that they don t look like an
Instagram model it makes us feel valueless or weird. The words we should be using are unique
or beautiful; we are all different and aiming to be the same as someone else isn t right. One of
the main problems with make up is that most teenagers use make up to hide their acne and spots
but over time this can increase amount of spots meaning more make up is used and a chain
reaction occurs. Make up is also quite expensive and can be used up very quickly. Make up is
mostly used to improve someone s looks because they are self conscious and I think it s good
that people feel more confident while wearing make up but you should be able to accept the way
you look and feel great about yourself. If everyone just gave a compliment a day no one would
feel ugly and we wouldn t have standards or this image of how we could look better. A further

Pros And Cons Of The USA Patriot Act
The USA PATRIOT Act violated many American civil rights and carried out many unnecessary
searches of innocent Americans. It sacrifices civil liberties for government power. The USA
PATRIOT Act, which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate
Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, was passed shortly after the attacks of 9

bring a halt to terrorism. However, in his efforts to track down terrorism, the act also violated
American privacy rights. The act violates citizens civil rights by violating the Fourth Amendment of
the US Constitution. The Fourth Amendment states that government agents or law enforcement
officers may only carry out searches and arrest after obtaining search or arrest warrants from the
courts. The act also violates the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution. The Fifth Amendment
states that all US citizens have the right to due process of law, meaning that no one can be deprived

The Central Bank has just advised of that they will be floating a new 20 year bond (GOTT 2031

Total issue size is TTD1 billion.
Suggestion
The Bank s investment portfolio as at December 31, 2010 includes a 20 year gov t fixed rate
bond, coupon 5.875% that has 17 years remaining to maturity. This bond would have been
purchased at a discount which means that the yield to maturity would be more than 5.875%. On
March 09, 2011 the bond had a coupon rate of 6.60% and a market price of $106.92, therefore the
market value of the portfolio would have been improved. Based on a comparison of the
government yield curve, there was an upward trend, which suggests that return on the portfolio
would be increased upon maturity. The new gov t instrument had a coupon rate of 6.80% as at
March 09, 2011 and given the upward rising of the yield curve, it appears that a 20 year tenor
would also give an increased average market yield and therefore has the potential to increase the
return on the total portfolio. Whilst the security is government and the instrument is

A young 15 year old boy in the year of 1909, had attended an airshow that would change his goals

Unit 22 Misconceptions
This weeks segment of material covers the common misconceptions associated with the wide
variety of calibers and how to properly identify them. In the video it centered the some of the
focus on .22 caliber and the common confusion that comes along with that caliber. At this point i
m going to cover in my own words where the most friction points come too. When you think .22
caliber some of us think of a specific type (.22 short, .22 long, .22 long rifle, and so on) of that said
caliber. The biggest issue one can have is to purchase the wrong cartridge and attempt to feed the
rifle and it will not chamber, in the event it does, it could cause excessive wear and tear due to the
bore pressure and ultimately ruin the firearm. It is important to understand the mechanics and
principles of how each individual firearm works and what specific type of ammunition it requires to
shoot properly. From here, I will cover the common misconceptions of cartridge identification....

Perfect example would be the 7.62x51mm vs. .308, both cartridges use a .304 .307 projectile.
The .308 however, has a moderate charge and has less bore pressure associated with it. Unlike
the 7.62x51mm which tend to run on the higher end of the spectrum, in terms of bore pressure. It
s important to identify whether your rifle is designated to .308 vs. 7.62x51mm. It can directly
affect the longevity of the barrel, and if not checked it can be a detriment to the overall safety of
the shooter. Having the ability to identify specific cartridges is a skillset that is dire. I m going to

Primitiveness And Savagery In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness , Conrad uses the depictions of the natives as Marlow goes
down the river to portray how human nature is with different levels of power. He uses color
imagery to correlate the darkskin of the natives to the name of the continent the natives live on, the
Dark Continent . He portrays Africa, or the Dark Continent to be a place of primitiveness and
savagery. The nature of the natives are primitive and savagetoo. In the same way, he aides the
superficial meanings of his description with words that have negative connotations to further his
depiction of the natives as primitive and savage.
In the beginning when Marlow arrives at the Outer Station, Conrad uses the dead and dying
natives to represent what human nature should be and sometimes is on the outside. They were
dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were
nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in the
greenish gloom (Conrad 19). They lack power. Conrad intentionally portrays them as powerless
because without power, they aren t a threat. He relates this to the primal feelings of man. Given
that the Outer Station is a representation of how people should be on the surface, Conrad
represents the natives as the inner savages. The natives are dead and dying because the inner
savage is dead or dying in society. We have constructed a society in which the inner savages, aka
the natives, have no

(Meyer 2009) With the United States being a hegemonic power, one state holding a

to our most dominant fuel. At the moment, proposed alternative fuels are biodiesel, electricity,
ethanol, and hydrogen fuel cells. If one of these proves to be a viable source, then we can move
toward development of engines that accept these fuels and deviate from standard fossil fuel
consumption.
Biodiesel:
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel derived from animal fats, vegetable oils, and recycled grease. It is
made from a blend of certain plants and animal fats, helping to burn a cleaner reduced emission
fuel. Biodiesel can replace diesel fuel and be used in diesel engines. The US currently produces
about 1.7 billion gallons of biodiesel; not enough to meet our use of 40 billion gallons. Biodiesel
was first developed in 1890 by Rudolph Diesel. Rudolph believed that pure vegetable oils could
power early diesel engines [5]. Despite his discovery, biodiesel development was forgotten as
cheaper alternative sources of fuel were presented. Diesel derived from petroleum was favored over
biodiesel for its

Robert Levenson Essay
For Dr. John Gottmann his successful research and discoveries began 35 years ago with the help
of his friend Robert Levenson. They began the research by building a laboratory where couples
would attend and speak with each other after a long workday deprived from each other. While the
couples spoke their heart rate, their blood velocity, the amount of sweat produced on the palm of
their hands, and even the movement they produced while being seated were being measured. The
conversations the couples had consisted of a subject that caused unceasing conflict between them
and then a positive subject, after their conversations their videotapes would be shown to the couple
and were asked about particular moments in the conversation and what they felt... Show more

For example, the recipients of repair are those who intend to repair or resolve the issue. The
repair can only work between the couple depending on the amount of intimacy and friendship that
already exists in the relationship. These two factors are then be used to build the first stage of
what they call a love map. One of the fundamental characteristics of the friendship between two
individuals is the intimate open ended questions asked by this person and the memorization of the
answers. Another characteristic witnessed in the laboratory was the attention given to the partner
speaking, for example results showed that those partners who paid more attention to their partner
while he was trying to communicate or make a joke were those who continued to be married for
a longer period of time. Overall it can all be summarized in seven steps that will allow a
relationship to flourish, and those are: enhance your love map, nurture fondness and admiration,
this means that it is imperative to be able to remind yourself about the worthiness your partner
possesses. The third step is turning toward each other, by giving your partner the attention they
crave you are acknowledging their presence and making them feel how important they are to you.
The fourth step is to let your partner influence you, by giving each other the respect in decision

Pain Intervention In Hypnosis
Since infancy and up until death, most people experience some type of pain in their life. Pain is
the body s way of letting a person know that they have just encountered something harmful and
possibly life threatening.1 It is used as a defense mechanism to warn a person to cease activity,
fight and/or run from the threat, and possibly seek help.1 (Modalities) Chad Starkey quotes the
International Association for the Study of Painwhen defining pain as an unpleasant sensory and
emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of
such damage. 1 Psychological and emotional factors can help to influence this actual or perceived
experience. While it is useful in defending the body from potential or further harm, pain can
continue to be present even when trauma... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because there are many factors that can cause and influence pain, there are also many
interventions that have been studied and made available for people who seek pain relief. Some
people prefer conventional regulated medications, some seek psychological mediation, and others
elect to try non conventional home remedies. There has been research on the use of relaxation and
psychological methods to help relieve pain. One of these methods includes hypnosis and the use of
hypnotherapy to alter the perception of pain and unpleasant sensations. The American Society of
Clinical Hypnosis defines hypnosis as a state of inner absorption, concentration, and focused
attention. 3 (ASCH) Graham Burrows uses the British Medical Association s definition of hypnosis

Essay on Information Literacy and the Public Library
The American Association for School Libraries defines information literacy as the ability to use
many types of reference resources and literacies to find information. The different types of reference
resources and literacies include: digital, visual, textual, and technological literacies. The American
Association for School Libraries has four main learning standards. The first covers inquiry, thinking
critically, and gaining knowledge. The second standard includes drawing conclusions, making
informal decisions, applying knowledge to new situations, and creating new knowledge. The third
standard asks students to be able to share knowledge and participate ethically. It also requires them
to be productive as members of our democratic society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is evidence of a wide range of information literacy focused programs in public libraries
worldwide (Harding, p. 157). Indeed, libraries across the United States are finding ways to provide
their communities with the necessary information literacy programs. Harding (2008) points out that
these library programs are providing information literacy support , and they have the opportunity
to foster the lifelong learning of their communities (p. 157). The public library has great
strengths when it comes to providing information literacy programming. Public libraries have
been considered the place to go for continuing education for an extremely long time. Public
libraries reach a large range of people on a daily basis. Harding (2008) points out that the library
has a wide diversity of clientele and the potential to reach all sections of the community from
children to older adults, and across minority groups and educational and professional levels. (p.
159) For many children, a public library is their first experience with learning in a group
environment. Oftentimes, community members are loyal to one library and this allows librarians
to foster long lasting relationships with them. Harding (2008) also suggests that public libraries
have the opportunity to provide one on one instruction during client librarian interactions such as
reference interviews (p. 160).This one on one instruction is another way

The Blu Ray Disc
1 Introduction
An emergence roadmapping process is crucial to managers and policy makers taken decisions about
which technologies it should be or it should not be developed, despite the uncertain trends of the
market.
This report aims to address the emergence roadmapping of the Blu ray disc. It will be structured in
the three essential parts: the development of this technology, the environment involved and its
initial market and competitors. The first part describes the technological development and the
advantages that led to the implementation of this innovation, and it presents the challenges faced by
it. In the second part, an environment analysis will explain what helped to the success of the Blu
ray disc. In the last part, market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Blu ray, thereby, is the successor of the DVDformat, as well as the High Definition/Density
Digital Versatile Disc (HD DVD). By 2007, these two serious competitors stood up over several
other companies attracting the largest consumer portion (Uijla Vriesa, 2013). Major changes that
occurred in the market by the end of 2008 have led the Blu ray to absolute dominance of the
market. In the section 4, a better explanation of the war raised between those two companies will be
presented.

3.1 Technology Development and Challenges
The main purpose in a technological innovation is to integrate its benefits in an application and to
utilize properly its advantages to create a potential market that will generate revenue.
In 1998, The High Definition TV (HDTV) sets began to act in the United States and Japanese
consumer markets. The old formats of media, such as DVDs and CDs were not able to store the
amount of data necessary to record high definition content. At the same time, the video game
market was growing in a rapidly rate. The market demand generated after the success of DVDs
pushed several companies to invest in this type of technology. In this framework, the company that
would come up with an efficient innovation to provide higher data storage would have greater
chance to have a big market share.

The Impact of Classical Literature on Machiavellianism Essays
Much of what we know today of Greek culture was passed on through history via The Iliad by
Homer. The Greeks, one of the earliest recorded civilizations that our species is aware of, had a
large influence on the Roman Empire and by extension most of the civilizations of our known
history. Through history and different cultures, there are various stories of heroes and heroism, and
it seems that the definition of heroism has changed frequently since classical antiquity. Goddess,
sing the rage of Peleus s son Achilles, murderous, doomed, that cost the Achaeans countless losses.

Lineage, camaraderie, and friendship were also of great importance to the Greeks. Though on
different sides in the Trojan War, Diomedes and Glaucus met on the battlefield and parted as
friends. Because of their ancestors friendship, they parted peacefully, and exchanged armor in
honor of their friendship, each agreeing to not fight the other for the remainder of the war. (The
Iliad 6.137 27I) The heroes are also favored by some of the gods who interfere on their behalf,
which has had profound effects on said these heroes and their combat strength. These virtues and
their possessors indirectly led to the success in returning Achilles to the battle and turning the tide
for the Achaeans.
Courage and skill in oratory appear to have the most value to the Greeks. With courage, a warrior
is able to charge forward and lead by example, inspiring those he commands to perform better in
combat. A leader who is skilled in oratory will also have a similar effect. A rousing inspirational
speech before combat can be more beneficial to a cause than having larger numbers. At the
beginning of book IX, Agamemnon has lost his courage. Having been manipulated into failure by
Zeus, Agamemnon orders all Achaeans to prepare to sail home in defeat. Stunned by his words, the
Achaeans fall silent. At this time, Diomedes confronts him in front of the Achaean

Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas
Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by
Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell
Michelle Plavnik
Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States
PAGE 2
ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision
diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass
bulb to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through
a capillary over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse
pressure was graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were
performed. The slope of the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was
then used to calculate the viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision
diameters. The experimental values were compared to the literature values by percent difference,
and it was found that this technique is not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To
make the values more accurate, the assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all
values. To take the experiment further it could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and
on other gases. Understanding properties like collision diameter and viscosity of gases are
important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics.

Definition Essay On Humor
Humor is not something new to us. In fact, the use of humor is as old as the use of communication
itself, and just like language, it has undergone some phenomenal changes thanks to our cultural
differences. Many factors such as age, personal experience, geographic location and even level of
education play a part in our use of humor. A simple jokeone person from one area may find
hilarious could get completely different results from someone from somewhere else. Whether or
not someone finds a joke amusing is ultimately determined by their interpretation of the joke. Since
our interpretations are filtered by a cultural context, our culture is a major factor on how humor is
used around us. This paper is designed to look at these variances in order to better appreciate
humor and diversity across different cultures.

There is less emphasis on ironies; therefore, our humor tends to be more open and displayed.
Also, we enjoy a style of humor that involves exaggerated physical expressions and actions. We
tend to use more physical and sexual humor, and our jokes are more obvious and to the point. We
can occasionally use sarcasm in our jokes, but it tends to be more subtle and rare. Practical jokes,
wise cracks and pranking are very common but not to the extent of injury.
The Relief Theory of humor often comes to mind since a lot of American humor involves sexual
jokes, religion, politics, and ethical differences. According to Martin (2007), the Relief Theory
involves using humor to relieve tension to feel more comfortable, The Jokes often serve as an
avenue to test the waters in order to ensure that it is acceptable and release the tension. Examples of
some of our most famous comedy include: Saturday Night Live, The Three Stooges, Woody Allen,

September 13, 1965, The Scariest And Most Haunted Building...
On Friday, October 13, 1965, horrifying things happened in an apartment building complex.
Apartment 23B is the scariest and most haunted building in New York. It was a dark and stormy
night in New York City. Little Avery, Madison, Max, and Aiden had a petrifying night. It caused a
lot of dreadful memories that will be penetrated in their minds forever. These kids just might find
themselves in a bad situation.
Day after day, we would pass the apartment building on our way to and from school. Branches of
vines and clusters of moss crawled up the sides of the building. I could see the paint tearing off
the walls. People for years have said the apartment building is haunted, but I don t believe it. They
say people have been possessed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aiden said with a smirk on his face. Why? You scared? They all laughed began to walk again.
When we reached the door, I took a deep breath and walked in. As the doors slammed shut behind
us, we looked around to find the paint chipping off the walls, a odor that smelled of rotting wood,
and a large staircase.
C mon guys, Madison said as she took a few steps up the staircase. She was fearless. The higher
up we got, the darker and scarier it became. The first room when we reached the top was the
infamous apartment 23B.
Aiden looked back at all of us and said, Well, let s not just stand here. Let s go!
He pushed the door open as it creaked until it slammed against the wall. I took one step in and felt
out of place. Guys, please remind me why we are doing this still?
Because we have to show my wimpy little brother that you shouldn t believe everything you hear,
Madison said blaming it on Max as if it were his fault we were here. We looked around. There was
a torn up bed in the middle of the room, along with the wallpaper that was ripping off the walls to
reveal the structure behind.
We set up all of our stuff. Max and Aiden took the corner by the broken window and fireplace,
while Madison and I took the side with the ancient pictures and next to the old, torn up bed. When
we finally got set we decided to explore around the building.
Madison and I went together and explored the basement and the main

Braking Control System Design
This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control. Specifically, the basic
solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with
continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define
the controlled variable. Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip
control is the natural choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into
account the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly
addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces limit cycles,
won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial braking systems are based
on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However, it is clear that the slip control
problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are robust with respect to road
surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be
presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation
(figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation scheme
guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2 the friction coefficient
is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That issue is very important since it allows
the use of a fixed structure controller, with no need

Sql Vs. Relational Databases
To SQL or Not to SQL
Relational databases play a major role in making many apps and programs work. They provide an
easy way to store large amounts of data in a consistent, non duplicating, and maintainable way to
be used by developers for analytical or software use ( Advantages of a relational database , n.d.).
However, more and more applications and companies with a tremendous amount of data such as
search engines, social networks, and e commerce sites have been requiring a level of speed and
scalability that relational databases can not provide ( Why NoSQL? , n.d.). NoSQL is a name
given to a quickly growing type of database known as non relational databases, which are being
used to store and manage huge amounts of structured, semi structured, and non structured data
known as Big Data ( Why NoSQL? n.d.). With the advent of social networks and apps with
millions of users, the rate of growth of non structured and semi structured data is exponential, and
the value in being able to quickly traverse it, analyze it, and use it for development is also growing
quickly (McGuire, Manyika, Chui, 2012).
Fundamentally, relational and non relational databases are very different. Relational databases
generally follow the ACID transaction principles, while non relational databases generally follow
BASIC principles (Sasaki, 2015). ACID stands for atomic, consistent, isolated, durable; and
prioritizes data consistency, stability, and accuracy over speed and scalability (Sasaki,

Mrs. Harris s Heart Failure
In the case study it discusses a patient, Mrs. Harris, who is a 72 year old and is complaining of
fatigue and swelling in her feet. Mrs. Harris also expresses her concern on the swelling, as some
days she is unable to put her shoes on despite proper elevation. She also states walking to her
mailbox can be challenging because it causes her to feel more tired and to have shortness of breath,
also known as dyspnea. Mrs. Harris is currently taking medication for high blood pressure,
hypertension; and is also drinking approximately 8 12 glasses of wine a week. While examining
Mrs. Harris it s clear she is a little overweight and has swollen ankles. Upon listening to Mrs.
Harris s breathing, crackles are heard. Therefore, Mrs. Harris seems to have congestive heartfailure.
Heart failure describes the heart s inability to function properly, meaning the heart is unable to
pump efficiently throughout the body. Thus causing the heart to work extra hard in order to
compensate the body s needs, but this ultimately leads to failure. And due to Mrs. Harris s
hypertension and alcohol consumption, she is now displaying signs and symptoms of congestive
heart failure, as both are major risk factors. Heart failure can be seen in the left side, which is
also known as congestive heart failure, and the right side of heart. The left side is typically the
first side to fail, as the left ventricle is the heart s largest chamber and the most powerful.
Left heart failure, commonly called

The climate of places near big bodies of water is moderated by the water, and does not have the
seasonal extreme of temperature that similar places (similar latitudes etc) in large land masses
experience.
The Earth s oceanic currents are pulled around the Earth in tides (mainly controlled by the Moon
s gravitational pull). The temperature of the ocean also affects tidal currents, one example of this
would be the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream brings warm water (and thus, warmer air and
weather) across the Atlantic providing temperate conditions for places like the UK. Recently there
have been claims that because of Global Warming, the Gulf Stream is slowing down. This means
that the water brought by the Gulf Stream would be cooler, and therefore places like the UK
would have a cooler climate and would probably have weather similar to Canada or Scandinavia. It
can warm or cool the land, depending on the current temperatures.

Low Vision Advantages And Disadvantages
DISCUSSION
The World Health Organization (WHO, 2011) estimates thattherearemore than 285 million people

the potential to use vision for the planning and execution of a task
Visual impairment is a worldwide concern and it is very likely that it will gain moreimportance as
the present standard of medical therapy is on the rise and the average life expectancy of an
individual is lengthened. There are a significant number of people with irreversible loss of vision,
in spite of the best possible therapy, who also possess some degree of useful residual vision, termed
as low vision. This impaired vision not only affects their daily living activities but also increases
their dependence on other people. The current investigation sought to focus on the impact of low
vision services and to address the barriers involved in visual rehabilitation of adults (16 to 60 years).
Different individuals undergo different experiences with reference to low vision, and may show
variable responses to low vision rehabilitation. Ultimately, an individual suffering from low vision
has to accept his/her disorder and should strive to obtain the best final outcome. This necessitates

  • 2. Analysis Of Ann Marie Macdonald s Fall On Your Knees The extraordinarily horrible stories of multiple families connected together through love, marriage, and friendship, all slowly unravel in Ann Marie MacDonald s award winning novel, Fall on Your Knees . The story begins with Materia Mahmoud eloping with James Piper, who both move to a small Village together in Nova Scotia where they raise a familyof girls, all of very different personalities. Materia always tries to be the best mothershe can be, and James is a good man who had an unfortunate upbringing, which eventually corrupts his morals later on when he has his own family. Through various events in the story, three basic archetypes become very evident in the main characters. These three archetypes include the Nurturer, the Outlaw, and the Explorer, which all become very obvious, quite early in the story. The first archetype seen in this story, the Nurturer, is revealed in two characters: Materia and her second daughter Mercedes. The Nurturer is responsible, organized, and loving, and is very good at taking care of others. Materia is not moulded into a nurturer until she has her second child, Mercedes. Materia has trouble loving her first daughter Kathleen and is never very successful in doing so. Although she lacks the affectionate aspect of the nurturer at first, she learns to take care of her family through cooking for them (MacDonald, 60) and keeping everything and everyone clean and happy, to the best of her abilities. Growing Up In A Small Town Imagine a world where there is no longer any local farms or farmers, a world where Ag is no longer offered in high school, FFA is no longer the backbone for agricultural education, and buying locally grown produce at your local supermarket is no longer an option. For those of us who have grown up with these great benefits and opportunities of living in a small town, probably can t imagine what it would be like. I personally will be greatly affected by this. The thought of urbanization taking the heart and soul out of small rural towns is crushing. Growing up in a small town has made me who I am today. The world that we have grown up in is changing. • 4. The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning nuclear piping the main degradation ... • 6. Arctic Vs. Antarctica Have you ever misapprehended the Arctic and Antarctica for the same thing? If you have, the mistake is reasonable. They both have extremely cold temperatures and are just on opposite sides of the globe. They have snow all year, and fantasies are made about igloos and eskimos. Although there are similarities, there are two sides to the same coin. Antarctica is a continent that is used for more of scientific study and holds 90% of earth s ice. Antarctica is one big continent, meaning there are no other parts to Antarctica. Antarctica has even reached the nice and breezy 128.6 degrees F. Henceforth, there are not many animals in Antarctica. • 7. Avantieme and the Transit of Tomorrow Avantieme is an island off the coast of Australia where the ocean scintillates and the national parks bask in the shade. Three main parks take refuge in Avantieme, housing about 58 species of endangered animals. Although the parks limit the living space of Avantieme, they are far too rare and meaningful to be destroyed. Centuries ago, we drove cars contaminated with pollution, but now Avantieme has pioneered the way to a cleaner and more dynamic way of transporting the commuter with the innovative Herron. There are several solutions to digress from the modern polluting ways of the car, but one of the easiest and most efficient is the usage of hydrogen to power the insurgent Hare pods. The Hares uses a polymer exchange membrane fuel cell... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One pound of hydrogen produces 52,000 BTU (British Thermal Unit), three times that in a pound of gasoline. The hydrogen powered Hare is a computer automated vehicle, that uses frequencies and a geographic mapping system to guide it. The Hare has two antennas on the top, the former sending out frequencies and the latter acting as a backup. The frequencies will detect the cars around them and any unrecognized objects. It also uses the RGMS, or Repetitive Geographic Mapping System, to give pinpoint accuracy to the computer. The RGMS are cars that parole Avantiemie every day, taking pictures of the roads and pathways as they go. They then, take the data they retrieved to the main building. This building collects and stores the data in their database and constantly sends them out to the Hares GPS. They keep an updated picture of roads as guide and safety backup to the antennas. Avantieme citizens craved a manual driving feature, but with a much more advanced computer system driving the car, traffic is limited and virtually no collisions occur. After some compelling arguments, transportation engineers eventually decided against the manual overdrive. Before vetoing the idea, transportation engineers had a test run with the VTS (Variegation Track System) manual overdrive option. At first, it was a very enticing option, but as the tests continued, the manual overdrive proved too dangerous for commercial use. The VTS had some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Examples Of Allusions In Secret Life Of Bees Biblical Allusion 1 The Virgin Mary An allusion is a literary device to express a reference to another piece of media. Allusions are used frequently in A Secret life of Bees to influence the characters personality traits and underlying story themes. In the novel, Sue Mon Kidd uses constant allusions to the Virgin Mary. She writes using Lily s voice, Looking back on it now, I want to say the bees were sent to me. I want to say they showed up like the angel Gabriel appearing to the Virgin Mary, setting events in motion I could never have guessed. Page 2. This is an example of a biblical allusion. The Virgin Mary was the virgin mother of Jesus Christ. She was a 1st century BC Galilean Jewish woman of Nazareth according to the New Testament and the Holy Quran. In the novel Secret Life of Bees, she is often cited as the blessed Mary or blessed among women by the followers of Mary. How does it connect to Lily?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our Lady of Chains they call her, she represents the ultimate feminine mother figure, a powerful symbolic representation of comfort, compassion, and strength. She was black as she could be, twisted like driftwood from being out in the weather, her face a map of all storms and journeey s she d been through. Her right arm was raised, as if she was pointing the way, except her fingers were closed in a fist. It gave her a serious look, like she could straighten you out if necessary. (4.29 30). Lily grieves the loss of her own mother. The death of Deborah Fontanel Owens have left Lily without guidance of a monarchal figure in her life, excluding Rosaleen. Due to her need for a female figure of guidance, she is attracted to The Black Madonna s prospective to fill that empty gap. When she visits the statue late into the night, Lily thinks: I live in a hive of darkness, and you are my mother, I told her. You are the mother of thousands. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Music Of A Christmas Carol about it (Gaskell 18). James, who is another servant, tells Hester that she has mistaken the wind soughing among the trees for music (Gaskell 17). Hester must force Agnes, by way of rank, to reveal that it is believed that the dead old lord , plays the organ (Gaskell 18). Miss Furnivall is first connected with the music, when Hester claims that she thought it was her playing the organ (Gaskell 18). Being that Miss Furnivall is deaf, and is therefore an unlikely musician, this insinuates that Miss Furnivall is connected to this problem. However similar to A Christmas Carol, the music is suggested to be derived from ghostly means, because the organ is found to be broken inside, therefore unable to be played normally (Gaskell 18). This thought is later underlined when the child, Rosamond, goes missing, and ghosts threaten the household, further emphasizing that a problem exists (Gaskell 20,24). Music is suggested many ways to cause her problems between Miss Furnivall and her sister, Miss Maude, rather than aid the sisters in a solution. Both sisters fell in love with the same man, a foreign musician, whom their father had down from London to play music (Gaskell 26). The sisters develop a rivalry over the foreigner (Gaskell 27). The foreigner is never given a name because it is suggested that he is not consequential as a person, but rather as a problem between the sisters. As he is of lower rank and not British, he is developed to play on Victorian fears, and social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Complex Layers Within the Little Mermaid Fairy tales convey political, moral, and social lessons through characters, relationships and setting. They originate from an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation often in a varied form, drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as the Bible and mythology. As societies gained access to the printed word, fairy tales became less changeable and tended to focus on characters who were transitioning from childhood to adulthood (Abler). Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm became renowned for their collection of fairy tales which have been disseminated worldwide and translated into a hundred and sixty different languages during the Romantic period of the nineteenth century (Abler). They often changed tales from their original versions to get rid of sexual undertones and horrific violence against innocent characters, injecting their interpretation of Christian morality into the subtext. Laced with various complex layers, the original tale of The Little Mermaidis imbued with poignant cultural meaning. Sirenetta, the young mermaid protagonist, dwells in a kingdom under the sea with her older sisters, but desires to become human after she falls in lovewith a prince whom she saves from drowning (Brothers Grimm4). She implores the Witch of the Deep for help to get human legs but sacrifices her voice and accepts that every step she takes will be excruciatingly painful (5). Your answer The two commercials that I thought were persuasive were the Skittles commercial and the Ford commercial. These commercials were in my opinion the most persuasive out of all the commercials because they used humor, and they were still very persuasive. The ford commercial being more persuasive than the skittles commercial I still liked them both equally. The Skittles commercial was more about being humorous rather than being so persuasive but was still very persuasive.... • 12. The Finest Hours Analysis Overall, the young adult version of The Finest Hours is not my type of book. This nonfiction informational text was written by Michael J. Tougias and Casey Sherman. It was published in New York, NY by Scholastic Inc in the year of 2014. The Finest Hours is the true story of a heroic sea rescue. Not one, but two T2 Tankers split in half during one of the biggest nor easters the Coast Guard had ever seen. More than 80 seamen were stranded aboard the two massive vessels. However, the rescue, surprisingly, comes down to a group of coasties from Chatham, MA. Bernie, a 24 year old coasty, and his crew knowingly volunteer to go out into the perilous seas to try to rescue them, riding only on a miniature 26 foot lifeboat and constantly being battered around by 70 foot waves! Will they survive or be crushed by the mighty relentless ocean.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors do indeed achieve this purpose but not without a lot of repetition and a few dull chapters. Also, surprisingly the characters do not consider themselves heroes they are simply doing their job. However, it starts off kind of slow. The first five or so chapters are pretty much all about describing the characters and are full of repetition. But, once you start reading it gets better. Overall, The Finest Hours wasn t that good at the beginning but it got a lot better by the end. However, I don t really like nonfiction books so I probably would have never picked this book up off the shelf. But, if you are a teen and enjoy nonfiction disaster stories or books involving heroic rescues then you would probably savor this book. To conclude, I would rate this book around a 2.7 out of 5 ... • 13. Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado The American Romantic/ Gothic period was basically the Renaissance of American literature. American romantics were influenced by eras that before them, and their writings were a different reaction against the philosophy of the previous eras. With this being said, American Romanticism grew from salvation, and guilt, as they excitedly developed their own unique style of writing. American romantic authors had a strong sense of general identity and pride in being American. For this reason, American authors during this time had a discrete desire to develop their own unique character separate from British literature. In order to accomplish this goal, the poet Edgar Allan Poe was rebellious and personal in his writing; and this explains the extraordinary creativity found throughout his work. Edgar Allan Poe had a unique and dark form writing style the mysterious style of writing showed emotion and drama. He used the themes of Gothic, death of the women he loved, and good vs. evil. These forms of writing styles are shown in The Cask of Amontillado , The Raven , and Tell Tale Heart. It demonstrates all the major aspects of the American Romantic revolution: rejection of classicism, eager naivety, and unusual detachment regarding time and space. The story of The Cast of Amontillado is a classic Gothic horror tale of a mad man wanting revenge. Art At The Blanton Museum Of Art On September 19, 2015 I visited the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas in Austin, where I observed The Raising of Lazarus by Joachim Wtewael in the European Old Masters gallery. The piece recreates the biblical narrative of Lazarus resurrection and demonstrates the exorbitant style of Mannerism popular during the 16th century. Wtewael establishes the significance of the Christ with his application of form through the use of unrealistic contortions of the people, the lines following the exaggerated limbs of the congregation, and the abundant use of the colorredon almost every article of clothing. In the foreground of the painting, a crowd of people gather around the recently resurrected Lazarus. There are roughly fifteen individuals in the crowd in a variety of postures, many of which are contorted and turned away. Furthermore, their forms are painted with considerable emphasis on the way that their respective limbs are bent and twisted which consequently creates a peculiar confined space in which much of the content and action is contained. The outstretched arms and warped bodies of the figures create two diagonal lines which cross over each other in the center of the painting, leading the eye to the primary subject and the focal point, Lazarus. To the left of him is a younger woman looking outwards, contrasting with the focused inward gaze of the crowd. Additionally, the same women mentioned previously also dons a striking white garment similar to that of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hilary Mantel, born in 1952, is particularly famous for her historical novels. On February 21 2013, at a book lecture at the British Museum, she held a speech, in which she commented on the British monarchy. Hilary Mantel starts her speech by telling how she, last summer, was asked to name a famous person and choose a book to give them. She chose Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung . This is a good way to start the speech because Hilary Mantel has now introduced her real purpose with the speech: to discuss the effect of monarchy. Hilary tells how she at a book trade event at ... In this quote she indicates that the royal family are like trapped caged animals that the public never really know, and that that is something perhaps to be regretted. The royal family is, according to Hilary, a thing that is expensive to conserve, but interesting to look at and that is also the only reason that they exist. Today monarchy has become an attraction, which flashes every side of the royal family. Hilary Mantel believes that we are looking at royalties as if they were figures or dolls, who we can treat as we want to. We always have a comment to what they are wearing, if they look good or not, what they are doing right or wrong etc. We are allowing monarchy to treat its persons as entertainment objects. I m not asking for censorship. I m not asking for pious humbug and smarmy reverence. I m asking us to back off not be brutes . In this quote Hilary says that we need to stand back, and this is clearly her goal with her speech. We need to allow the royalties to be humans as well. Hilary Mantel s speech is tendentious and personal, because only one her own opinion is presented. Looked at the speech objectively it is weak because of the lack of proof, since she is only arguing with her own personal opinion. In the speech there is an illustration of Paul Emsley s portrait of Kate Middleton. She describes it like this: But in her first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the main problems with make up is that most teenagers use make up to hide their acne and spots but over time this can increase amount of spots meaning more make up is used and a chain reaction occurs. Make up is also quite expensive and can be used up very quickly. Make up is mostly used to improve someone s looks because they are self conscious and I think it s good that people feel more confident while wearing make up but you should be able to accept the way you look and feel great about yourself. If everyone just gave a compliment a day no one would feel ugly and we wouldn t have standards or this image of how we could look better. A further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It sacrifices civil liberties for government power. The USA PATRIOT Act, which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, was passed shortly after the attacks of 9 /11. It was signed by President George W Bush because he believed that the act would help America bring a halt to terrorism. However, in his efforts to track down terrorism, the act also violated American privacy rights. The act violates citizens civil rights by violating the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution. On March 09, 2011 the bond had a coupon rate of 6.60% and a market price of $106.92, therefore the market value of the portfolio would have been improved. Based on a comparison of the government yield curve, there was an upward trend, which suggests that return on the portfolio would be increased upon maturity. The new gov t instrument had a coupon rate of 6.80% as at March 09, 2011 and given the upward rising of the yield curve, it appears that a 20 year tenor would also give an increased average market yield and therefore has the potential to increase the return on the total portfolio. In the video it centered the some of the focus on .22 caliber and the common confusion that comes along with that caliber. At this point i m going to cover in my own words where the most friction points come too. When you think .22 caliber some of us think of a specific type (.22 short, .22 long, .22 long rifle, and so on) of that said caliber. The biggest issue one can have is to purchase the wrong cartridge and attempt to feed the rifle and it will not chamber, in the event it does, it could cause excessive wear and tear due to the bore pressure and ultimately ruin the firearm. It is important to understand the mechanics and principles of how each individual firearm works and what specific type of ammunition it requires to shoot properly. In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness , Conrad uses the depictions of the natives as Marlow goes down the river to portray how human nature is with different levels of power. He uses color imagery to correlate the darkskin of the natives to the name of the continent the natives live on, the Dark Continent . He portrays Africa, or the Dark Continent to be a place of primitiveness and savagery. The nature of the natives are primitive and savagetoo. In the same way, he aides the superficial meanings of his description with words that have negative connotations to further his depiction of the natives as primitive and savage. In the beginning when Marlow arrives at the Outer Station, Conrad uses the dead and dying natives to represent what human nature should be and sometimes is on the outside. They were dying slowly it was very clear. They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly now nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying confusedly in the greenish gloom (Conrad 19). They lack power. Conrad intentionally portrays them as powerless because without power, they aren t a threat. He relates this to the primal feelings of man. Given that the Outer Station is a representation of how people should be on the surface, Conrad represents the natives as the inner savages. • 39. Alternative Fuels And Its Effects On Our Environment The engine of today is largely dominated by the oil industry. Most of our energy consumption is contributed to transportation and movement of goods. This creates a high demand for fuel as the number of miles driven per person is projected to grow. Currently, 86% of vehicles run on fossil fuels, which create heavy amounts of carbon dioxidegas which puts heavy strain on our environment. It is up to large companies to research alternative methods of fuels and compare them to our most dominant fuel. At the moment, proposed alternative fuels are biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, and hydrogen fuel cells. If one of these proves to be a viable source, then we can move toward development of engines that accept these fuels and deviate from standard fossil fuel consumption. Biodiesel: Biodiesel is a renewable fuel derived from animal fats, vegetable oils, and recycled grease. It is made from a blend of certain plants and animal fats, helping to burn a cleaner reduced emission fuel. Biodiesel can replace diesel fuel and be used in diesel engines. The US currently produces about 1.7 billion gallons of biodiesel; not enough to meet our use of 40 billion gallons. Biodiesel was first developed in 1890 by Rudolph Diesel. Rudolph believed that pure vegetable oils could power early diesel engines [5]. Despite his discovery, biodiesel development was forgotten as cheaper alternative sources of fuel were presented. Calculating The Collision Diameter And Viscosity Of A Gas Calculating the Collision Diameter and Viscosity of a Gas by Measuring Pressure Over Time as the Gas is Evacuated from a Cell Michelle Plavnik Department of Chemistry, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, 30322, United States PAGE 2 ABSTRACT: The aim of this experiment was calculating the values of viscosity and collision diameter for nitrogen gas, argon gas, and dry air. This objective was carried out by filling a glass bulb to a pressure of about 700 Torr with the desired gas and letting it evacuate the bulb through a capillary over a ten minute period. The pressure was recorded every five seconds. The inverse pressure was graphed against time, and a linear regression along with a least squares were performed. The slope of the line of best fit was used to calculate the capillary radius, which was then used to calculate the viscosities of the gases, which were used to calculate the collision diameters. The experimental values were compared to the literature values by percent difference, and it was found that this technique is not effective. Percent errors ranged from 0% to 30%. To make the values more accurate, the assumptions made in calculations need to be the same for all values. To take the experiment further it could be performed at other pressures, temperatures, and on other gases. Understanding properties like collision diameter and viscosity of gases are important in fields such as gas phase reaction dynamics. Introduction Gas phase reaction dynamics is an ... Apartment 23B is the scariest and most haunted building in New York. It was a dark and stormy night in New York City. Little Avery, Madison, Max, and Aiden had a petrifying night. It caused a lot of dreadful memories that will be penetrated in their minds forever. These kids just might find themselves in a bad situation. Day after day, we would pass the apartment building on our way to and from school. Branches of vines and clusters of moss crawled up the sides of the building. I could see the paint tearing off the walls. People for years have said the apartment building is haunted, but I don t believe it. They say people have been possessed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aiden said with a smirk on his face. Why? You scared? They all laughed began to walk again. When we reached the door, I took a deep breath and walked in. As the doors slammed shut behind us, we looked around to find the paint chipping off the walls, a odor that smelled of rotting wood, and a large staircase. C mon guys, Madison said as she took a few steps up the staircase. She was fearless. The higher up we got, the darker and scarier it became. The first room when we reached the top was the infamous apartment 23B. Aiden looked back at all of us and said, Well, let s not just stand here. Let s go! He pushed the door open as it creaked until it slammed against the wall. I took one step in and felt out of place. Guys, please remind me why we are doing this still? Because we have to show my wimpy little brother that you shouldn t believe everything you hear, Madison said blaming it on Max as if it were his fault we were here. We looked around. There was a torn up bed in the middle of the room, along with the wallpaper that was ripping off the walls to reveal the structure behind. We set up all of our stuff. Max and Aiden took the corner by the broken window and fireplace, while Madison and I took the side with the ancient pictures and next to the old, torn up bed. When we finally got set we decided to explore around the building. Madison and I went together and explored the basement and the main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Braking Control System Design This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control. Specifically, the basic solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define the controlled variable. Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip control is the natural choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into account the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces limit cycles, won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial braking systems are based on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However, it is clear that the slip control problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are robust with respect to road surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation (figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation scheme guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2 the friction coefficient is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That issue is very important since it allows the use of a fixed structure controller, with no need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Sql Vs. Relational Databases To SQL or Not to SQL Relational databases play a major role in making many apps and programs work. They provide an easy way to store large amounts of data in a consistent, non duplicating, and maintainable way to be used by developers for analytical or software use ( Advantages of a relational database , n.d.). However, more and more applications and companies with a tremendous amount of data such as search engines, social networks, and e commerce sites have been requiring a level of speed and scalability that relational databases can not provide ( Why NoSQL? , n.d.). NoSQL is a name given to a quickly growing type of database known as non relational databases, which are being used to store and manage huge amounts of structured, semi structured, and non structured data known as Big Data ( Why NoSQL? n.d.). With the advent of social networks and apps with millions of users, the rate of growth of non structured and semi structured data is exponential, and the value in being able to quickly traverse it, analyze it, and use it for development is also growing quickly (McGuire, Manyika, Chui, 2012). Fundamentally, relational and non relational databases are very different. Relational databases generally follow the ACID transaction principles, while non relational databases generally follow BASIC principles (Sasaki, 2015). ACID stands for atomic, consistent, isolated, durable; and prioritizes data consistency, stability, and accuracy over speed and scalability (Sasaki, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Mrs. Harris s Heart Failure In the case study it discusses a patient, Mrs. Harris, who is a 72 year old and is complaining of fatigue and swelling in her feet. Mrs. Harris also expresses her concern on the swelling, as some days she is unable to put her shoes on despite proper elevation. She also states walking to her mailbox can be challenging because it causes her to feel more tired and to have shortness of breath, also known as dyspnea. Mrs. Harris is currently taking medication for high blood pressure, hypertension; and is also drinking approximately 8 12 glasses of wine a week. While examining Mrs. Harris it s clear she is a little overweight and has swollen ankles. Upon listening to Mrs. Harris s breathing, crackles are heard. Therefore, Mrs. Harris seems to have congestive heartfailure. Heart failure describes the heart s inability to function properly, meaning the heart is unable to pump efficiently throughout the body. Thus causing the heart to work extra hard in order to compensate the body s needs, but this ultimately leads to failure. And due to Mrs. Harris s hypertension and alcohol consumption, she is now displaying signs and symptoms of congestive heart failure, as both are major risk factors. Heart failure can be seen in the left side, which is also known as congestive heart failure, and the right side of heart. The left side is typically the first side to fail, as the left ventricle is the heart s largest chamber and the most powerful. Left heart failure, commonly called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Essay on Mtx110 an Inconvenient Truth MTX110 An inconvenient truth An Inconvenient Truth 1. What evidence does Al Gore present in the film to support each explanation of global climate change? Evidence for warming of the climate system includes observed increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea level. The most common measure of global warming is the trend in globally averaged temperature near the Earth s surface 2. What does Al Gore present as the three reasons we haven t addressed our influence on global climate? Population , technology , and awareness . 3. What are the three causes of misconceptions that affect awareness? Disagreement among scientists , Choice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The climate of places near big bodies of water is moderated by the water, and does not have the seasonal extreme of temperature that similar places (similar latitudes etc) in large land masses experience. The Earth s oceanic currents are pulled around the Earth in tides (mainly controlled by the Moon s gravitational pull). The temperature of the ocean also affects tidal currents, one example of this would be the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream brings warm water (and thus, warmer air and weather) across the Atlantic providing temperate conditions for places like the UK. Recently there have been claims that because of Global Warming, the Gulf Stream is slowing down. This means that the water brought by the Gulf Stream would be cooler, and therefore places like the UK would have a cooler climate and would probably have weather similar to Canada or Scandinavia. It can warm or cool the land, depending on the current temperatures. 8. Make a list of natural factors that increase greenhouse gases and a list of natural factors that decrease greenhouse gases. Methane Release, Solar Variations, Volcanic Eruptions are natural factors that increase greenhouse gases. Photosynthesis of plant, especially, process of plant absorbs CO2 is a natural factor that decreases greenhouse gases. 9. An Inconvenient Truth ends with this statement: Future generations may well have occasion to ask themselves: What were we thinking? Why didn t they wake up when they had a

  • 55. Low Vision Advantages And Disadvantages DISCUSSION The World Health Organization (WHO, 2011) estimates thattherearemore than 285 million people worldwide who are visually impaired, of whomnearly 39 million people are blind and 246 million suffer from low vision1. A person with low vision has a best corrected visual acuity in the better eyeoflessthan6/18tolightperceptionoracentralvisualfieldofless 10than degrees, but who uses or has the potential to use vision for the planning and execution of a task Visual impairment is a worldwide concern and it is very likely that it will gain moreimportance as the present standard of medical therapy is on the rise and the average life expectancy of an individual is lengthened. There are a significant number of people with irreversible loss of vision, in spite of the best possible therapy, who also possess some degree of useful residual vision, termed as low vision. This impaired vision not only affects their daily living activities but also increases their dependence on other people. The current investigation sought to focus on the impact of low vision services and to address the barriers involved in visual rehabilitation of adults (16 to 60 years). Different individuals undergo different experiences with reference to low vision, and may show variable responses to low vision rehabilitation. Ultimately, an individual suffering from low vision has to accept his/her disorder and should strive to obtain the best final outcome. This necessitates the initiation of new programs, or ...
