• Erik Erikson was born on the 15th June 1902
• He died on 12th may 1994
• He is known for his theory on psychosocial development
4. Description
• Erik Erikson was a student of Freud, who also developed a
psychoanalytical theory of how adults relate and respond to
children can have a direct impact on how children see
themselves.
• This can have a long –term affect on the children in
relationships as well as their academic performance.
5. Positive and negative aspects
Positive aspect –
Children learn to have trust in themselves and others they may
then have a relaxed and positive attitude.
Negative aspect-
They see the world as inconsistent and threatening as well as
seeing good things as a temporary happiness.
6. How has the theory influenced practice
today
• In schools we use the EYFS profile this is a way of building
records of assessment outcomes in reception.
