- Crossing the axis refers to passing over an invisible line between two subjects, creating a reverse angle shot.
- A J cut or split edit is when picture and sound are synchronized but the transitions are not coincident.
- A cutaway interrupts continuous action by inserting a view of something else, usually followed by a cut back.
- Cross cutting establishes simultaneous action in two locations by cutting between the actions.
