2. COLOUR GRADING & CONTRAST
Before
After
I used color grading in my editing process using
premier to alter the look of my shots to allow it
to fit my genre better.
I color graded using a yellow tint which
allowed it to look more muted and darker and
make my mise en scene look airy and this is
what I wanted to achieve as I feel it made my
shots appear more sinister.
I also altered the contrast and brightness of
shots throughout my edit as most my shots
came out quite light due to using natural light
and filming when the sun was still out. whereas
I wanted them to look darker and involve more
shadows as this is conventions of my genre. So I
altered the contrast down to lower the high key
lighting and I also lowered the brightness which
created the sense of shadows in some shots
and made my film fit my genre conventions of
having low key lighting.
3. Transitions
I used various transitions
throughout my opening for my titles
but I kept them simple yet effective
as it made my titles appear more
interesting as they appeared as well
as making them stand out more and
catch the viewers attention.
The ones I used the most was the
dissolves as they looked
professional as they were not to
over the top.
I also used a fade in and a fade to black at the
beginning and end of my edit to make it clear
to my audience where the beginning and end
of my opening is. I also made sure the
transition faded in and out gradually and not
too quick as this allowed it to flow better.
4. Titles I created my titles in Photoshop
and converted them to PNG files
which I then inserted above the
clip I wanted in premier. I kept
all my titles in the same font and
color and size to make it look
more professional . I also used
the same font for my film title. I
chose this font as it was clear
bold and had conventions of my
genre for instance it is not a neat
font or colorful which you
wouldn't see in a psychological
thriller.
5. sound
I used various sound effects throughout my opening to help create and add tension and emphasize certain
sound effects that the camera didn't’t capture well for example I added a car door opening and closing sfx to
make it clear and louder in my opening as well as a water sound as the body was dropped in this helped make
this scene look realistic as a real body would create a splash sound due to the weight and I couldn't’t get that
sound with the false dead body I made as it obviously was not as heavy. Lastly I added a sound effect as the
car drove off to make it sound more clear and loud.
I kept one soundtrack the same all the way through but altered the levels of it so it went quite and loud at the
times that I wanted it to. My opening contained no narrative except my voice over at the beginning. I faded
my sound in gradually and out at the end to help make my sound flow and sound more professional. Al my
sound matched my conventions and genre as all sound choice helped to add tension and suspense.
