Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. SHOT COMPOSITION
Over the course of producing my opening my
skills have developed a lot. From my prelim
you can see that the camera isn't straight and
the shot isn’t composed very well at all, this
means that overall the quality of the shot is
poor. After developing my skills and using
products such as final product my final product
has better shot composition than in my prelim,
this is because I have considered how I
construct each shot and only filmed specific
relevant elements, unlike my prelim. Also
using final cut I have been able to edit my
shots to make sure that they are composed
perfectly and look professional.
3. HOLDING A STEADY SHOT
Over time my handling of a camera has
improved as well, In my prelim you cans
see that there no use of a tripod and there
is blurring as the camera is moved far to
quickly, this makes the shot look bad and
unprofessional. When I filmed my final
product I used a tripod to capture my shots
to ensure that my camera is steady
throughout to make my product look tidy,
professional and well done. Final cut also
helped me with this because it allowed me
to remove any blurring from any shots
which further enhanced my product.
4. LIGHTING Between my prelim and final product I have
learnt how lighting effects a film, as its part of
mise-en scene I can use it to make my
product have a more professional look to it. In
the prelim you cans see that the lighting is
bright and this represents the mood of the
setting and the atmosphere, this was not what
I wanted for my own product, when filming my
own product I had to consider the fact I was
outdoors so I picked a day when it was
overcast and dull because this is what
represented the mood I wanted to create in
my product and because it was all natural
lighting I had to be careful when filming to
make sure it looks the same in every shot.
For parts of my I did use normal lights but this
didn’t have much affect because I was filming
underwater and a bright light was what I
needed to illuminate the setting.
5. LOCATIONS
Over the production of my final product I have
learnt the importance of location’s in a film and
how they are key to genre and narrative of a film.
In my prelim this was done poorly because I just
used the first place available which was the
classroom that I was in, this was poor because
there was lots of background noise and other
people around in the background that were not
meant to be in the film. However as my skills
have developed for my final product I considered
location more highly and looked around
thoroughly for a good location to film in.
Eventually I found a place that was perfect to
reflect my genre and it had great filming locations
for different types of shot and using software
such as final cut I have been able to edit parts to
make it fit more appropriately, such as the shots
in my bathroom.
6. ACTORS
Actors are key to any film and something I have
had to consider throughout my production. In
my prelim the actors were not considered very
well and their acting skills were not great, this
meant that the overall quality of the film was
low, also there was not much time to come up
with a script so therefore it seems rushed and
simple. After some research I decided that to fit
in with the key forms and conventions of my
genre I didn’t need a script so it was easy to
cast my character in accordance with my genre
so that I got the correct effect when filming, also
I considered costume to make my actor fit the
part to perfection.
7. INTERTITLES
Intertitles are important in distinguishing who and
what was involved with the making of a film. In
my prelim there are no titles at all which makes it
look unprofessional. To improve on this I
researched into film openings to see what they
used as titles and especially my genre of film.
After looking into this I found what I wanted to
make and made the titles that are in my product.
To do this I used Photoshop which is how I
managed to get the professional look on my titles.
Using titles makes my opening look so much
more professional and more appealing to my
audience, it also distinguishes it as a film opening
and not an actual scene from a film.
8. SOUND
Sound is very important in films as it can set the
atmosphere and make certain parts of films work
logically. In my prelim there is only the sound that
was recorded at the time on the video, therefore
there is lots of unwanted background noise ruins
the actual dialogue of the tow actors talking. In
my final product I have used both diegetic and
non-diegetic sound to make my product
professional and realistic. I have used different
sound effects for different locations, this means
that any background noise that was initially
recorded can no longer spoil the footage. I made
my own soundtrack from garage band which
allowed me to get a professional edge on it
because I am not a musical person, therefore my
product appears more professional and
constructed in good order.
