Theories And The Underlying Processes Essay
theories and the underlying processes have a huge bearing on the subject. These psychological
theories are more than theoretical in nature and can thus be applied practically. Indeed, through these
theories, there is a growing belief that human behavior can be predicted using certain environmental
factors. As psychologists continue to inquire more into human behavior, it becomes clearer than
certain aspect of the social, biological, psychosocial, and technological environments have the biggest
sway on people s choice of actions. Often, human beings participate in a task because of the value
they will derive from it, especially in terms of its economic and social importance. Social cognitive
theory is of the thought that what a person perceives as right and its significance influences a course of
action. A person s behavior is greatly influenced by what he or she believes to be right or wrong. Most
importantly, their actions are influenced by the benefits they accrue from them. For this reason, the
subjective probabilities that affect the choice of actions can be used to determine a person s next
actions and ultimately, their behavior. In his theory, Rotter explains that learning and cognitive
processes combine to determine people s reactions to occurrences in life. Through Rotter s social
learning theory, behavior can be predicted using people s responses to life s occurrences. The social
cognitive approach focuses on the crucial nature of cognitive processes in the

The First Attribute Of An Effective Teacher
The first attribute of an effective teacher is awareness. Teachers have to see that each child has a
specific thing they will need. As we learned in class sometimes a band aid doesn t cover it. In middle
school I had a drama teacher who was incredible. Towards the end of the school year I was called the
office for something. I was almost suspended for something I did not do. When I came back to class
she could tell I was visibly upset. She did not give a band aid, she gave me hug. She took me out into
the hall and ask me what happened. I explained the situation and she believed because she was aware
of my behavior in her class and elsewhere. In that moment though I had no special educational need
she was aware that I needed a hug, some tissues and a break for class that day.
The second attribute of an effective teacher is respect. The important thing about this, is that to create
a culture of learning the students and teachers must respect each other. The teacher has to understand
each home culture. The culture of the student practices at home whether that be similar to their own or
different. Each child has a different way of interacting with adults. In some cultures, such as Chinese
culture, looking down and not making eye contact actually means respect for elders. In Deaf culture
you don t beat around the bush, if you have something to say just say it. Growing up it was normal for
my family to talk with their hands, not sign language but using gestures and

Hudson V. Michigan
Hudson v. Michigan, U.S. Supreme Court, June 15, 2006
Facts
The U.S. Supreme Court acknowledged that a violation of the knock and announce rule does not
require the courts to suppress any evidence found in a search when officers were pursuant to a valid
warrant.
Issue
Hudson was charged under Michigan law with unlawful drug and firearm possession. Hudson s
counsel moved to subdue the evidence from the record because of the violation of Hudson s Fourth
Amendment right when the officers prematurely entered his home. The issue was whether or not a
violation of the knock and announce rule would call for the courts to throw out of all evidence found
in a warranted search if police do not exercise the rule announcing their presence and giving proper
time for the citizen to respond before entering the citizen s home. Upon ... Show more content on

Banks, 540 U.S. 31 (2003), a similar drug case, the Court determined that the appropriate time that
officers have to wait is a reasonable wait time .
Application
After serious deliberation and reviews of other cases where the knock and announce rule was
remedied and defined the Court identified other available provisions that validate violations of the
knock and announce rules that calls for court action. The Court s decision in Hudson v. Michigan
ruled against Hudson, but reiterated that it did not take the knock and announce rule lightly. The court
only determined the knock and announce rule did not apply to this particular case and that the
presence of the warrant were validated and exclusionary.
Conclusion
Hudson v. Michigan does not eliminate the knock and announce obligation police officers have when
searching a suspect or the premises of the suspect s property. However, it will eliminate the issue of
criminal courts that suppress evidence when officer but will prevent criminal courts from suppressing
evidence obtained in searches where officers do not follow the protocol of the rule s

Deafness and the Power of Signing Essay examples
Deafness and the Power of Signing
When the deaf Miss America spoke to a crowd of thousands about overcoming her handicap, deaf
people across America were disgusted. Deafness is not a handicap, I have been told again and again. It
is a cultural identity, a way of life, a choice, even (some hard of hearing people speak of the time when
they had to decide, deaf or hearing), but never a handicap, never something to be overcome. The sign
for people like Miss America is the sign for hearing, with the forefinger circling up by the forehead
instead of down by the mouth. She thinks she s hearing, is what it means. There is also a sign for the
reverse: some hearing people get so involved in the deaf community that they think they are deaf, ...

One of these elements is a heightened appreciation for the margins, for the periphery.
Symmetry
According to Ronnie Wilbur of Boston University, a strict Symmetry Condition exists for signs where
both hands move, they must have the same handshapes and both hands movements must be either
identical or in polar opposition to one another (1). Some symmetrical signs: family, group class place,
love, community. The deaf community is not a mirror image of the hearing world; ASL is not English
with the sound off.
Bring the fingertips of your right hand together. Touch the fingertips to your chin near your mouth,
then up further to the right, by your ear. Home is significant for so many deaf people, for the ones who
grew up in a hearing world, missing whole conversations, falling behind in school, acting as hearing
as they could. One deaf teacher told me she was sure, as a child, that when she turned eighteen she
would become hearing: she didn t know any deaf adults, so she just assumed they didn t exist. She
didn t know what sign language was. When she turned eighteen and was still deaf, she decided to go
to Gallaudet, the only deaf liberal arts college in the country. She said she couldn t really explain it to
me, I wouldn t really know, but she felt like she was finally home had finally found

Tv s Influence On African American Culture
The influence of television in regards to race relations in society has always been very real and
powerful. Throughout the 1950 s to the 1980 s, the television shows in America depicted the African
American experience in unique and different ways that were either a step forward, or two steps
backwards in the fight for equality. First of all, the show Amos n Andy, was a very conflicting show to
people in America because it was funny and well written, but every black character on the show was
either a clown or a crook. What this means is that millions of white Americans around the country
were watching this show whenever it was on and all they saw on the TV was black people being
clowns (acting stupid) or crooks (stealing or getting in trouble). ... Show more content on

The most popular TV shows were able to completely sway the minds of people on a certain social
topic, and they had the ability to either accurately or inaccurately depict the black culture. A lot of the
time it depended on if they wanted to get a bunch of ratings and money, or if the show wanted to make
a major impact on society. The shows that just wanted money didn t actually display the real life
scenarios that blacks went through living in the hood with absolutely no money and being treated
poorly. This is because it made the white people look like the bad guys and why would any of them
come back consistently to watch a show that made them feel guilty? The shows that just wanted to
make a point to society were the ones that got canceled quickly but made the biggest impact. Shows
like East Side West Side, Roots, All in the Family. All of these shows were unique in their ability to
actually succeed in both goals. They were able to bring in big ratings every single time it was played,
but they were also able to make some people stop and reconsider the morals and understandings of
society in America at the time. I think that without shows such as the previous ones mentioned, the
civil rights movement may have been different. Obviously the movement could still have been done
successfully without the influence of television, but

The Christmas story from the angels point of view
Have you ever experienced the birth of Jesus?Well I have because I am the angel that told the birth.I
am a pretty important person in the bible. However,Jesus asked me that night to help him. Here is my

which she was scared of what was going to happen. I said, I am with Mary and the lord is with her

On Education and Education Technology Essay
eLearning software is a collection of web based software that allows students to view information
related to their coursework and submit assignments to their professors. Some of this online education
software also allows for additional collaboration and learning tools. eLearning software is becoming
increasingly important, and is nearly essential for modern education in the digital age. However, this
technology is largely unrefined and as such, has problems; problems that can be overcome.
Since the popularity and ubiquity of the internet, eLearning software has become relatively
commonplace in the education world. An eLearning platform can be found in use at almost every
major school around the world. Primary and secondary schools are ... Show more content on

No software is perfect, but some are clearly better than others. eCollege is one such service. Provided
by Pearson, eCollege provides a platform that is easy to manage and navigate, though perhaps not
very feature rich. eCollege offers a place for professors to manage their individual classes resources,
providing a grade book, testing, a breakdown of section information, threaded discussion, and some
document sharing ability. eCollege is somewhat lacking in the areas of speed, browser compatibility,
and communication function.
For example, eCollege lacks any sort of notification system, so that any announcements from the
professor, replies to threaded discussions, or approaching deadlines are in no way reported to the
students or faculty. This is a very common feature not just in other eLearning technologies, but for
web technologies in general. eCollege also is considerably far behind its competition in terms of
pleasing user interface. The design paradigms are reminiscent of the web as of 1998, and the fonts are
by default set to be far too small to be readable on high resolution screens. Lastly, eCollege has
nothing in the way of student collaboration, requiring external services or solutions to be used for
group activities.
Its competition, Blackboard, is probably the largest and most

Bud Light Marketing Campaign
With the NFL season kicking off this past weekend several business to business agencies are paring
with other companies to promote their products in a cleaver and sports related way. One agency that
has already started their campaign is the #MyTeamCan where 28 of the 32 NFL teams has customized
Bud Light cans with their team logos and a tag line specific to their teams and their history. Because
of this recent and relevant marketing campaign and agency that I am accustomed to I wanted to look

This campaign was a Facebook campaign that got users to vote to save their favorite Monopoly token
(pieces) would retire and which ones would replace them. Not only was the campaign on Facebook,
but they also created YouTube videos regarding each token, and over 20 companies partnered up to
support their favorite token. This cleaver campaign increased the sales of Monopoly board games
substantially, and also allowed users to change the game forever.
A majority of VaynerMedia s services are online social platforms and they have only recently reached
out to television ads. Because of their largely social media campaigns they are focused with real life
engagement with their target audience with increased followers, response back and people who post
supporting their campaign. With strategic social media analytics the company is able to see how the
brand and campaign is performing with engagement, followers, people it reached and expanding
stories beyond their social media posts.
Its obvious to see that Vayner Media is taking over the new age marketing with social media
campaigns that allows is followers to actively engage in the campaigns and with the companies that
are associated with them. Now with their expansion into television and large partners such as GE,
Anheuser Busch, and the New York Jets, it seems to me that Vayner Media will be a power house

Global Warming And Its Impact On The Environment
As technology continues to advance, and as the population continues to grow and the individual life
expectancy becomes longer, the global environment is being negatively impacted by various human
and natural activities that are detrimental to the environment. Unfortunately there are many global
environmental issues that need the attention of world leaders today, and have become undisputed
environmental issues in today s society. However, the most important public health, environmental
issue I would like to address in my discussion is global warming. Furthermore, global warming
influences a great amount of climate changes in the global arena. Hence, its befitting to say that, most
issues associated with climate changes around the world and global warming or increased atmospheric
temperature are intertwined. According to Friis (2012), Global warming is the increase in the near
surface temperature of the earth; the increased temperature is due to the increased emission of
greenhouse gases. It has been postulated by scientists that earth s surface has been warming up by
approximately one degree Fahrenheit every year for the past 140 years; a consequence of the emission
of gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane and Nitrous Oxide from sources such as fossil fuel
combustion. For example, fossil combustion that is coal and petroleum based fuels. Other sources of
these gases are deforestation, which also results in increased atmospheric carbon dioxide,

Failure Philosophy
Let your failure be your motivation to success. Winona Bhushan. Why is failure the key to everything?
When climbing a tree, you are bound to fall until you learn from your mistakes. Anything below a
hundred percent grade on any given task is failure. These are just two of infinite possibilities of
failing. Failure is the result of an action to put it bluntly. There are three poems to help understand this
philosophy even further. These include the poem Caged Bird written by the poet, Maya Angelou,
Mother To Son, written by the poet, Langston Hughes, and last but certainly not least, The Road Not
Taken, written by Robert Frost. The works of literature listed above all revolve around each other in a
special way. In each scenario, one reflects on their past in an indirect way of speaking about their
decisions or actions. Though, the real question is, how does failure affect these three individuals, and
how they did they move past it, or through it? When one feels caged, they are feeling as though they
are trapped in their own negative feelings, telling themselves that because of their past failures, they
can only talk about how they can t accomplish anything. This is the case in the poem, Caged Bird, by
Maya Angelou, in which it states, The free bird thinks of another breeze / and the trade winds soft
through the sighing trees / and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn / and he names the sky his
own(Angelou) This means that the free bird, who may be described as someone who has it all, or has
had little to no experience with devastating failure. On the other hand, the poem states, But a bird that
stalks / down his narrow cage / can seldom see through his bars of rage / his wings are clipped / and
his feet are tied / so he opens his throat to sing. (Angelou) This differentiates from the free bird,
because the caged bird is described as one who is being restricted into his own limits, basically. One
of the things holding him back is his own experiences, while the free bird wonders what is on the
other end of the spectrum, as he is handed fat worms and is greeted by soft winds. The poem written
by Maya Angelou is supposed to show perspective, on one end the bird is thought of as free, with no

Respectful Relationship Theory
Introduction
In this reflection journal I will be discussing Ata growing respectful relationship theory, which I chose
to use for Kate s case study, and Ecological systems theory, which was used for Hone s case study. I
will further reflect on the appropriateness of the two theories in relation to these given case studies.
Lastly I will look at the application of these theoretical frameworks.
Theories
Reflecting back on Kate s case study I feel that Pohatu s ata growing respectful relationship I m
unsure if ata was the most suitable model to use with Kate. I personally felt then that initially I needed
to develop a rapport with Kate first to build an effective and trusting relationship if we were to work
together. Because the focus of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore I felt that Urie Brofennbrenner ecological systems theory was best suited for Hone as it
looks at the environment that surrounded the individual and how the impact of each system could
affect them. The ecological systems perspective looks at the bigger picture of the individual. it
regonises the relationship between environment and individual, for example the relationship between
Hone and his school. In social work practice it helps to regonise the influence of the environment on
the individual weather it be directly or indirectly. The application of the ecological systems theory
enables me to identify the factors from each of Hone s system, which was causing an impact on him.
Through the applying the systems theory I was able to gain to a better knowledge of understanding to
his erratic behaviour and awareness that there were some underlying issues that needed to be
addressed as well. Hone s mother leaving him when he was born is one the many or not root of the
underlying issues. Again like Kate s case study I feel that another model would be working in
conjunction with systems theory such as Freud s psychodynamic theory. I feel that the individual
needs to be explored also and why they are behaving in such manner. The psychodynamic theory is
about the exploration of the inner self and how the unconscious forces drive human behavior, how the
clients identify the conflicts and their experiences. This will help to understand the hidden meanings
in things that Hone say, think, or is engaging in such as smoking or cutting

The Effects Of Water On The Body Weight
Water is about 60% of the adult human body weight. The relative importance of water is readily
apparent through the role it plays in various systems of the body. The popular notion, therefore, exists
that one must drink eight 8 oz glasses of water, which amounts to about 2 L, per day. Currently, the
Institute of Medicine states that the total beverage intake for men should be about 13 cups or 3 L and
for women 9 cups or 2.2 L ( Water: How Much... ). The right amount of water one should drink each
day ultimately depends on a number of factors, such as where one lives, the amount of activity, and
personal health. My average daily water intake is less than the recommended amount of 2 3 L, which
affects the physiological functions of my cardiovascular and renal systems. A low water intake affects
the healthy functioning of the cardiovascular system. The decrease in effective circulating volume, or
the extracellular fluid in the blood vessels that perfuse the tissues, decreases end diastolic volume that
is not compensated for by the end systolic volume, which exhibits a smaller decline. As a result, the
stroke volume decreases because the left ventricle does not fill up as much with blood. The large
reduction in end diastolic volume and stroke volume is mainly a result of the decrease in venous return
due to the reduced amount of fluid circulating in the body (Stohr et al. 894). This leads to a reduction
in arterial and atrial pressure, which decreases the stretch of the blood

How Does Henry Fleming Show Courage
Throughout history , we find courage weaving itself into the souls of remarkable people. A Soldier
shows courage by sacrificing his/her life for their comrades and their cause. The Merriam Webster
Dictionary defines Courage as the quality of mind and spirit as one has in the face of peril and fear .
Henry Fleming was naive, and a coward, but in the end, his mind and his spirit grew strong. As he
exposed himself to the gruesome side of war, he fulfilled the definition of the term courage by making
mistakes, learning to not overthink and misjudge, and by showing that love to one s home can be the
necessary inspiration to go down fighting. Henry finally flourishes from a boy to an American
courageous man. Fleming visualized war as a spotlight that would shine upon him. Fleming believed
in honor; not in the sense of fighting for what s right, (at first) but fighting for a reputation. He left his
home, his mother, and his boyhood to chase after a gilded future that would not come easy. Henry
entered the army with the wrong image on fighting, and remotely mused on the aspects of what came
with war. Considering the definition of courage, Henry did not start off with a strong quality of mind
and endurance. His spirit was childish, and, as said previously, quite naive. Fleming strutted to the war
with the hopes of fame and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

light. As an act of desperation, Fleming tries to find justification in his actions by comparing himself
to a squirrel. Henry overthinks his shameful situation without giving it much thought about the other

Research Paper On Tyson Foods
Where does our food come from? Often the answer is Tyson Foods, America s meat factory.
STORIES FROM OUR ADVERTISERS
Tyson, one of the nation s 100 biggest companies, slaughters 135,000 head of cattle a week, along
with 391,000 hogs and an astonishing 41 million chickens. Nearly all Americans regularly eat Tyson
meat at home, at McDonalds, at a cafeteria, at a nursing home.
Even if Tyson did not produce a given piece of meat, the consumer is really only picking between
different versions of the same commoditized beef, chicken, and pork that is produced through a
system Tyson pioneered, says Christopher Leonard, a longtime agribusiness journalist, in his new
book about Tyson called The Meat Racket.

Many chicken farmers don t even own the chickens they raise or know what s in the feed. They just
raise the poultry on contract for Tyson, and many struggle to make a living.
Concerned by the meat oligopoly s dominance of rural America, President Obama undertook a push
beginning in 2010 to strengthen antitrust oversight of the meat industry and make it easier for farmers
to sue meatpackers. The aim was grand: to create a new rural economy to empower individual
farmers.
Big Meat s lobbyists used its friends in Congress to crush the Obama administration s regulatory
effort, which collapsed in spectacular failure, Leonard writes.
Factory farming has plenty of devastating consequences, but it s only fair to acknowledge that it has
benefited our pocketbooks. When President Herbert Hoover dreamed of putting a chicken in every
pot, chicken was a luxury dish more expensive than beef. In 1930, whole dressed chicken retailed for
$6.48 a pound in today s currency, according to the National Chicken Council. By last year, partly
because of Tyson, chicken retailed for an average price of $1.57 per pound much less than

Piano Types: The Grand Piano

the scene around the year 1700, courtesy of Cristofori. Since then, we have seen a number of
variations and changes, and you can basically take your pick regarding size and capabilities.
Believe it or not, the term grand didn t always apply exclusively to horizontal pianos it simply referred
to the length of the strings. Over time, though, Grand Pianos have become entirely horizontal, and
upright pianos are never referred to as grand.

The Treasure Of Lemon Brown
Every man got a treasure. While walking home in the dark streets of Harlem, Greg Ridley ran into a
downpour. Greg stopped by an abandoned building to elude the rain. He meets an old Blues singer,
Sweet Lemon Brown. Brown shows the young man how a little care goes a long way. In the short
story The Treasure of Lemon Brown, Walter Dean Myers presents the theme of valuing the little
things in life. To begin with, Greg realizes the importance of his father s lectures. First of all, Mr.
Ridley expresses the significance of his son s grades, wishing he had half the chances Greg has at his
age. Greg soon cares about his efforts in school because he wants to stay on the school s basketball
team, and not squander his opportunity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ridley s lectures, Lemon Brown gets the most out of life despite living in rags. When Mr. Brown
compares Greg to his deceased son, he points out the small details about his kid. For example, Brown
recalls that his son had big eyes like Greg, and told Greg that he could Look into them moon eyes and
see anything you want (4). Appreciating the unique eyes goes to show that Sweet Lemon Brown
cherishes the critical details during his time on Earth. Additionally, the Blues singer values seniority
when he defends his treasure from intruders. For instance, after hurling his body down the flight of
stairs, Brown teaches Greg that When you get as old as me...you say... Howdy Mr. Pain, sees you back
again. Then when Mr. Pain see he can t worry you none, he go on mess with somebody else (6).
Lemon Brown shows Greg that old age comes with life, and experience helps put fright and pain in
the back of your mind and allows you to work through it. Also, when the old man reveals his treasure
to Greg, he shows the kid that knowing someone cares is the greatest feeling you can get. Lemon
shows all his clippings and beat up harmonica to Greg, explaining how his kid, [Jesse], carrying it
around with him like that told me it meant something to him... (7). After hearing that his son treated
his gift like diamonds, Lemon Brown clung to the traces of his past like a baby to his

The Slavery Of The United States
Before the 19th C, literature in the United States (US) was largely characterized on the basis of its
diverse nature. Using different forms of documentations such as travel accounts and journals, early
European explorers noted down their different experiences in the New World. Owing to the fact that
these new Explorers were very religious, most of their writings were defined by their religious
convictions especially the Puritan faith. In addition to these writings being shaped by religion, most of
the narratives revolved around the common phenomenon of slavery. It was the time when
emancipation was being advocated by many people especially in the North States which was anti
slavery. Most of the narratives in those times revolved around ... Show more content on

Before the coming of the Europeans, the natives held the best parts of the land and when these settlers
came, they took the fertile lands and most economical viable lands for themselves. Thus, the economy
of the US continued to grow while the state of the native Indians continued to worsen as they lost their
power and resources. It could not have been possible for the US to have developed in those
exponential terms without acquiring land from the natives at almost no cost. When the settlers set their
feet in the New World, they had one agenda which was to achieve economic growth of the new land at
all costs. It was then achieved at the expense of the Native Indians who had to be stripped of their land
and resources. In most of the narratives, there is a lot of Puritan religious agenda that is directly based
on the Bible as their religious authority. They base their arguments on the fact that God promises to
freely provide for his children through His grace. This kind of belief is not found within the Native
Indians religious belief system and thus they were viewed as Godless. In a way, the Western Christian
values largely despised on the religious system of the Indians which heightened the tensions between
the two communities. This textual exchange between factual and spiritual information within the

researchers also found that while for adults, combining Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SRIs) and ERP

Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God
This novel is the story of Janie Crawford s quest for love, told, as noted prior, as a casing. The novel
Their Eyes Were Watching God, presents numerous topics, for example, love and marriage, discourse
and hush, and gender parts. Zora Neale Hurston makes a radiant showing of making what men like Joe
Starks felt the run of the mill parts were for the female African American. In this exposition I will
introduce an outline of the love experienced by the real character Janie with her husbands,
examination of characters of Janie, Joe, Phoeby and porch sitters, Furthermore I will likewise examine
the metaphors, symbols utilized by the Hurston alongside my sentiment about the title of the novel.

Their Eyes Were Watching God is a content lavishly invested with importance and reason which
utilizes idyllic dialect and folkloric symbolism to pass on its messages. Hurston utilizes numerous
symbols and metaphors as a part of Their Eyes Were Watching God to add to Janie s story. Symbols
stand for, speak to, or recommend something else. A metaphor, in any case, is a more interesting

conventionally and fundamentally utilized for one thing is connected to an alternate. One of the
common metaphors in the novel is the picture of the skyline. As Janie ascensions the pear tree to see

when the patio sitters sit outside toward the end of a working day to watch the sun set. Janie needs to
make an excursion to the skyline, and her trip turns into a primary metaphor in the story. At dawn,
Janie goes not far off to the train station to meet and wed Tea Cake, trusting that this experience will
take her to the skyline. The skyline is an image of Janie s long lasting quest for happiness. Toward the
end of the story, Pheoby is on edge to look for her own particular skyline with her husband, as an

Essay on Feminism in Dubliners
| Feminism in Dubliners |
Mrs. Atkins; English A3
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
James Joyce s book of short stories entitled Dubliners examines feminism and the role of women in
Irish society. The author is ahead of his time by bringing women to the forefront of his stories and
using them to show major roles and flaws in Irish society, specifically in Eveline and The Boarding
House . James Joyce portrays women as victims who are forced to assume a leading and somewhat
patriarchal role in their families. He uses them to show the paralysis of his native land Ireland, and the
disruption in social order that is caused by the constant cycle of abuse that he finds commonplace in
Ireland. Joyce is trying to end the Victorian and archaic view of ... Show more content on

This is seen when the narrator speaks about the story of the field that Eveline, her brothers, and
another family s children used to play on which was bought by a man from Belfast in order to build a
house. Another example, is how she and her brothers would play out in a field, and her father would
come to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick (34). This also symbolizes the discord
of family relations, and the premature annihilation of her childhood innocence by her father and the
premature end of innocence that is caused by abusive men to their children in Ireland. Eveline is also
denied the basic right to love and affection by her own choice. She finds a man who loves and values
her, and is the exact opposite of her abusive father. Frank represents the opportunity for escape and a
break in the cycle. She finally has an opportunity for a new life, and she chooses to stay in Ireland to
take care of her father and brothers. Eveline s choice to stay in Ireland, rather than to leave with Frank
can be seen as a result of the lack of self worth and mental constraints set on her by her father, which
parallels the fact that Ireland s paralysis is caused by the abuse of male authority roles. Eveline feels
tied to her father, in the same way a hopeless chained animal who knows no better than to wait
patiently and endure. The illusion of captivity was so complete that even though she had an
opportunity to escape her cage , she chose to stay in it.

What was the cause(s) of Mrs. Hayes s renal failure?
Acute renal failure occurs quickly over a period of days or weeks with a reduction in GFR and
elevation of BUN, plasma creatinine and crystatin C levels. Oliguria (urine output of lt; 30ml/hr or lt;
400 ml/day) is usually associated with ARF, although urine output may be normal or increased as well.
Fluid is still filtered at the glomerulus but there is an alteration in tubular secretion or reabsorption.
Most types of ARF are reversible if diagnosed and treated early (Perrin, 2009).
Prerenal acute renal failure accounts for 60% of cases of ARF is the most common cause of ARF and
is caused by impaired renal blood flow. The GFR drops because of the decrease in filtration pressure.
Poor perfusion can result from hypovolemia, hemorrhage, renal vasoconstricition, hypotension, or
inadequate cardiac output. This type of renal failure may occur when chronic renal failure exists if a
sudden stress is imposed on already marginally functioning kidneys. If blood volume or blood
pressure and oxygen delivery is not restored, cell injury and acute tubular necrosis or acute interstitial
necrosis may be caused (Perrin, 2009).
Intrarenal acute renal failure accounts for 30% to 40% of the cases of ARF generally results from
acute tubular necrosis due to disturbances within the glomerulus or renal tubules. ATN most often
occurs after surgery but is also associated with sepsis, severe trauma, including severe burns,

regarding conflict in the Black Hills. The other significant source is a firsthand account from a

Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
The song is about a materialistic path of life that people take, which only satisfies them with desires of
the world for material objects. This in turn leaves a weak feeling of lack of spiritual fulfillment leading
them a question of how they would get into heaven. The character in the song who is a lady in finds
the fulfillment of worldly satisfaction by buying stairway that she may use to heaven. Otherwise she
realizes that life is not all about being able to buy everything she can afford. The song shows the spirit
of this woman yearning for a deeper happiness. Then she is answered to her yearning soul that one
may take either of the two existing ways. It shows a chance of salvation for all souls that go down the
path that lead them to hell. The main part of this essay contains the analysis of the artifact. The
meaning in almost every verse when the song is broken down is foremost given in this analysis. Later,
we shall critically analyze the song and give deductions of the analysis. An evaluative judgment of the
artifact of this song is done. The revelation of the analysis about the artifact in particular and about

9 October 2014 The history of Morocco relevant to European colonialism begins with the Arab
conquest of North Africa in the late seventh century. When the Arabs arrived, they brought with them
the religion of Islam and converted the people they found there. Those people were the Berbers, who
are indigenous to the region. Like the Europeans to come later, the Arabs imposed taxes on the
Berbers, however the Arabs allowed the Berbers to keep the laws and customs they already had. Later,
less than a century after this conquest, the Berbers revolted and regrouped into smaller, self governed
states. Islam in Morocco took different forms after that, with each state bending it to its own needs.

However, the explicit goal of Lyautey and his associates was to improve the quality of indigenous
public service so that eventually it would function with only minimal French intervention
(Gershovich). France contributed a lot to Morocco during its time as a colonial influence. It built
26,660 miles of roadways. It also helped to improve other infrastructure as well as modernize
agricultural systems. France gifted to Morocco, with their own goals in mind, the starting blocks of a
prosperous, efficient economy. That being said, Lyautey worked hard to not allow colons to enter
Morocco, but the French leaders that came after him did not feel the same way. Colons did end up in
the region, and Lyautey tried hard to prove that, he was not in a conquered country and to maintain the
fiction that the French had been invited there to help (Bidwell). Regardless, racism proliferated and
the indigenous population was subjugated. After Lyautey, Morocco began to resemble a different
colonized state one under harsh foreign rule. They kept the façade of the sultan, and built schools and
hospitals, but without involving the Moroccans in the process. Eventually, French rule over Morocco
became so harsh compared to how it was under Lyautey that in 1953, Moroccans were, being
imprisoned for waving their national banner (Bidwell). Another concept the French subscribed to, as
well as other colonizers, was separating ethnic tribes or groups and putting them against each other in
order to keep control over the region. For example, the, Berber Dahir legislation of 1930 that had
established different legal systems for the two Moroccan ethnic groups, Imazighen (Berbers) and

Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai and John Sturges The Magnificent Seven
The 1954 movie The Seven Samurai, directed by Akira Kurosawa, and its 1960 remake The
Magnificent Seven, directed by John Sturges have many similarities; for example, the plot of both

The two movies also have differences like the characterization of the bandits in The Magnificent

old friend: Shichiroji (SS), Harry (MS), and a quiet, older and tremendously experienced
samurai/gunslinger: Kyuzo (SS), O Reilly (MS).
Once six mercenaries are acquired they set off to the village and Chico/Kikuchiyo follows behind until
the mercenaries decide to let him join. Once the mercenaries arrive, in both movies, all the farmers are

samurai/gunslingers and are trained how to fight. Unlike in The Seven Samurai the bandits in The

with little battles occurring over a three day period until the final battle.

Johnson Tyco
Tax inversions have become a popular transaction among businesses in recent years. Alex Molinaroli,
CEO of Johnson Controls, Inc. talked about a possible merger with Tyco International PLC., in the
World Economic Forum in Switzerland this past week.
A Tax Inversion is a business transaction in which a company, typically residing in the U.S., merges
with a foreign company and moves its corporate headquarters overseas while maintaining its main
operations in the U.S. for strategic purposes; specifically to take advantage of the lower tax rules in
the foreign country. Even though, this practice has progressively increased in the last two decades,

In addition, like any other merger between two firms, companies benefit from significant cost synergy
during the implementation of an acquisition and/or merger with other company. For example, when
two companies combine their strengths to complement each other, they restructure their operations
and as a result several offices and sites are closed down which leads to the laying off of employees,
consolidating services and software applications. All these changes, result in synergy savings for the
new company.
A tax inversion is considered a form of tax avoidance, not tax evasion. To provide clarity and
differentiate these two terms, tax inversion is simply a method that a U.S. corporation can use to avoid
paying higher taxes by changing their tax address to a foreign nation. This practice is constitutional
and therefore, legal (although many members of Congress are trying to pass laws that would put
restrictions on future tax inversions). An example of a tax inversion is Burger King s acquisition of
Tim Hortons Inc., a Canada coffee and doughnut chain. Burger King (BK) moved its Miami based
headquarters to Ontario, Canada which caused a controversy. BK saved as much as 1.2 billion dollars.
On the other hand, tax evasion by definition is the use of illegal means to avoid paying taxes and
involves and individual or corporation misrepresenting their income to the Internal Revenue Service
and is considered fraud. An

The Discovery Dispute And Its Effect On The Status As A...
For the reasons stated in Part II(A), supra, Avpro enters this discovery dispute with a distinct
advantage due to its status as a non party. Independent of its status as a non party, the electronic

Norton Anthology American Literature Robert Levine Analysis
Two forces of history mentioned in Volume C of Robert S. Levine s text, Norton Anthology American
Literature, are realism and naturalism. These forces relate to the literature of that time period in
different ways. Realism relates because it portrays life according to how it was at that time, and
naturalism relates because it exaggerates realism. Both of these forces of history are important to
understand life at that time through a literary standpoint.
Realism was used to refer to literary fiction that was rooted in the observation and documentation of
the details of everyday life (Levine 7). This means that the authors of that time did not solely state

Reasons for the U.S. Turning to Imperialism at the End of...
Essay Question: Why did the U.S. turn to Imperialism at the end of the 19th century?
Imperialism is the creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural, and territorial
relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an empire, based on domination and
subordination. (Johnston 375) By the 1890s, many Americans leaders started to have new attitude
towards imperialistic adventures abroad. There were numerous reasons for the U.S. to turn to
Imperialism at the end of the 19th century, mainly the economic, political, strategic, and humanitarian
motives. Various industrialists as well as investors including bankers and the new wealthy class feared
that the United States would soon produce more than it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An initial indication for American attitudes toward the use of force abroad was demonstrated in
Hawaii. In 1893, encouraged by the Harrison administration and assisted by the U.S. Marines from the
cruiser Boston, pro American sugar planter overthrew Queen Liliuokalani and requested the
annexation of Hawaii by the U.S. After that, President Grover Cleveland sent a commission to Hawaii
to determine the wishes of the Hawaiian citizens concerning their future, Last but not least, the idea of
racial superiority from Social Darwinism and, ironically, the moral responsibility to civilize and uplift
the inferior races of Africa and Asia accounted for the increased American interest in foreign frontiers
in the 1890s. In his book Our Country, Josiah Strong stated that God had appointed Anglo Saxons to
be their brother s keeper. Furthermore, Kipling bolstered the idea of the White Man s Burden , the
duty of white people to help and educate people who lived in undeveloped civilization . Senator Albert
J. Beveridge of Indiana also suggested that the opening of the frontier would free the American spirit.
Right before the Spanish American War or the Cuban War for Independence 1898, American public
opinion was heavily influence by the Yellow Press . Sensationalized stories about butcher Weyler and
the horrendous human conditions in concentration camps were published and spread throughout the

Ignatius Jacques Reilly In A Confederacy Of Dunces
Ignatius Jacques Reilly is a beautifully ludicrous character in nearly all aspects of his large nature. At
the very center of the complex interwoven story of A Confederacy of Dunces, is the bizarre Ignatius,
surrounded by a diverse group of odd yet endearing characters. Ignatius and an ensemble of eccentric
characters portray the painful truths of everyday life, such as racial and class inequality, in the most
hilarious way possible. In his journey of absurd misadventures, the grotesque and gluttonous Ignatius,
in turn points out how absurd society looks, looking up and wanting to move up. With the very notion
of optimism nauseating him, Ignatius views it as perverse and suggests that we all accept our proper
position in the universe [which is] one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ignatius provides a voice for the losers of the world. Not to mention that he is willing to defy the
American ideal that equal opportunity in the United States makes it possible for anyone to achieve
success through hard work. Likewise, he is undaunted in calling out our foolishness and shameless in
bringing light to the inequality and ill treatment of workers that exist in his society. With bed sheets
and fraud, Ignatius attempts to bring justice in strange but amusing of ways, being a true hero for the
social outcast. This is not to say he is without massive flaw, prone to unpleasant behavior and truly a
slob especially in the eyes of the dunces surrounding him. The confederacy that includes an African
American porter forced to work below minimum wage, a bar owner whose primary concern is
protecting her investment, and a miserable rich man. Certainly, there is no absence of variety of
characters in A Confederacy of Dunces, yet all characters share the common trait of being unhappy
due to money or a lack of money. However, Ignatius is the exception, he claims to have no desire in
climbing up the social ladder and declares that

  • 2. Theories And The Underlying Processes Essay theories and the underlying processes have a huge bearing on the subject. These psychological theories are more than theoretical in nature and can thus be applied practically. Indeed, through these theories, there is a growing belief that human behavior can be predicted using certain environmental factors. As psychologists continue to inquire more into human behavior, it becomes clearer than certain aspect of the social, biological, psychosocial, and technological environments have the biggest sway on people s choice of actions. Often, human beings participate in a task because of the value they will derive from it, especially in terms of its economic and social importance. Social cognitive theory is of the thought that what a person perceives as right and its significance influences a course of action. A person s behavior is greatly influenced by what he or she believes to be right or wrong. Most importantly, their actions are influenced by the benefits they accrue from them. For this reason, the subjective probabilities that affect the choice of actions can be used to determine a person s next actions and ultimately, their behavior. In his theory, Rotter explains that learning and cognitive processes combine to determine people s reactions to occurrences in life. Through Rotter s social learning theory, behavior can be predicted using people s responses to life s occurrences. The social cognitive approach focuses on the crucial nature of cognitive processes in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The First Attribute Of An Effective Teacher The first attribute of an effective teacher is awareness. Teachers have to see that each child has a specific thing they will need. As we learned in class sometimes a band aid doesn t cover it. In middle school I had a drama teacher who was incredible. Towards the end of the school year I was called the office for something. I was almost suspended for something I did not do. When I came back to class she could tell I was visibly upset. She did not give a band aid, she gave me hug. She took me out into the hall and ask me what happened. I explained the situation and she believed because she was aware of my behavior in her class and elsewhere. In that moment though I had no special educational need she was aware that I needed a hug, some tissues and a break for class that day. The second attribute of an effective teacher is respect. The important thing about this, is that to create a culture of learning the students and teachers must respect each other. The teacher has to understand each home culture. The culture of the student practices at home whether that be similar to their own or different. Each child has a different way of interacting with adults. In some cultures, such as Chinese culture, looking down and not making eye contact actually means respect for elders. In Deaf culture you don t beat around the bush, if you have something to say just say it. Growing up it was normal for my family to talk with their hands, not sign language but using gestures and ... • 4. Hudson V. Michigan Hudson v. Michigan, U.S. Supreme Court, June 15, 2006 Facts The U.S. Supreme Court acknowledged that a violation of the knock and announce rule does not require the courts to suppress any evidence found in a search when officers were pursuant to a valid warrant. Issue Hudson was charged under Michigan law with unlawful drug and firearm possession. Hudson s counsel moved to subdue the evidence from the record because of the violation of Hudson s Fourth Amendment right when the officers prematurely entered his home. The issue was whether or not a violation of the knock and announce rule would call for the courts to throw out of all evidence found in a warranted search if police do not exercise the rule announcing their presence and giving proper time for the citizen to respond before entering the citizen s home. Upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banks, 540 U.S. 31 (2003), a similar drug case, the Court determined that the appropriate time that officers have to wait is a reasonable wait time . Application After serious deliberation and reviews of other cases where the knock and announce rule was remedied and defined the Court identified other available provisions that validate violations of the knock and announce rules that calls for court action. The Court s decision in Hudson v. Michigan ruled against Hudson, but reiterated that it did not take the knock and announce rule lightly. The court only determined the knock and announce rule did not apply to this particular case and that the presence of the warrant were validated and exclusionary. Conclusion Hudson v. Michigan does not eliminate the knock and announce obligation police officers have when searching a suspect or the premises of the suspect s property. Deafness and the Power of Signing Essay examples Deafness and the Power of Signing When the deaf Miss America spoke to a crowd of thousands about overcoming her handicap, deaf people across America were disgusted. Deafness is not a handicap, I have been told again and again. It is a cultural identity, a way of life, a choice, even (some hard of hearing people speak of the time when they had to decide, deaf or hearing), but never a handicap, never something to be overcome. The sign for people like Miss America is the sign for hearing, with the forefinger circling up by the forehead instead of down by the mouth. She thinks she s hearing, is what it means. There is also a sign for the reverse: some hearing people get so involved in the deaf community that they think they are deaf, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these elements is a heightened appreciation for the margins, for the periphery. Symmetry According to Ronnie Wilbur of Boston University, a strict Symmetry Condition exists for signs where both hands move, they must have the same handshapes and both hands movements must be either identical or in polar opposition to one another (1). Some symmetrical signs: family, group class place, love, community. The deaf community is not a mirror image of the hearing world; ASL is not English with the sound off. Bring the fingertips of your right hand together. Touch the fingertips to your chin near your mouth, then up further to the right, by your ear. Home is significant for so many deaf people, for the ones who grew up in a hearing world, missing whole conversations, falling behind in school, acting as hearing as they could. One deaf teacher told me she was sure, as a child, that when she turned eighteen she would become hearing: she didn t know any deaf adults, so she just assumed they didn t exist. She didn t know what sign language was. When she turned eighteen and was still deaf, she decided to go to Gallaudet, the only deaf liberal arts college in the country. • 6. Tv s Influence On African American Culture The influence of television in regards to race relations in society has always been very real and powerful. Throughout the 1950 s to the 1980 s, the television shows in America depicted the African American experience in unique and different ways that were either a step forward, or two steps backwards in the fight for equality. First of all, the show Amos n Andy, was a very conflicting show to people in America because it was funny and well written, but every black character on the show was either a clown or a crook. What this means is that millions of white Americans around the country were watching this show whenever it was on and all they saw on the TV was black people being clowns (acting stupid) or crooks (stealing or getting in trouble). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most popular TV shows were able to completely sway the minds of people on a certain social topic, and they had the ability to either accurately or inaccurately depict the black culture. A lot of the time it depended on if they wanted to get a bunch of ratings and money, or if the show wanted to make a major impact on society. The shows that just wanted money didn t actually display the real life scenarios that blacks went through living in the hood with absolutely no money and being treated poorly. This is because it made the white people look like the bad guys and why would any of them come back consistently to watch a show that made them feel guilty? The shows that just wanted to make a point to society were the ones that got canceled quickly but made the biggest impact. Shows like East Side West Side, Roots, All in the Family. All of these shows were unique in their ability to actually succeed in both goals. They were able to bring in big ratings every single time it was played, but they were also able to make some people stop and reconsider the morals and understandings of society in America at the time. I think that without shows such as the previous ones mentioned, the civil rights movement may have been different. Global Warming And Its Impact On The Environment As technology continues to advance, and as the population continues to grow and the individual life expectancy becomes longer, the global environment is being negatively impacted by various human and natural activities that are detrimental to the environment. Unfortunately there are many global environmental issues that need the attention of world leaders today, and have become undisputed environmental issues in today s society. However, the most important public health, environmental issue I would like to address in my discussion is global warming. Furthermore, global warming influences a great amount of climate changes in the global arena. Hence, its befitting to say that, most issues associated with climate changes around the world and global warming or increased atmospheric temperature are intertwined. According to Friis (2012), Global warming is the increase in the near surface temperature of the earth; the increased temperature is due to the increased emission of greenhouse gases. It has been postulated by scientists that earth s surface has been warming up by approximately one degree Fahrenheit every year for the past 140 years; a consequence of the emission of gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane and Nitrous Oxide from sources such as fossil fuel combustion. • 13. Failure Philosophy Let your failure be your motivation to success. Winona Bhushan. Why is failure the key to everything? When climbing a tree, you are bound to fall until you learn from your mistakes. Anything below a hundred percent grade on any given task is failure. These are just two of infinite possibilities of failing. Failure is the result of an action to put it bluntly. There are three poems to help understand this philosophy even further. These include the poem Caged Bird written by the poet, Maya Angelou, Mother To Son, written by the poet, Langston Hughes, and last but certainly not least, The Road Not Taken, written by Robert Frost. The works of literature listed above all revolve around each other in a special way. In each scenario, one reflects on their past in an indirect way of speaking about their decisions or actions. Though, the real question is, how does failure affect these three individuals, and how they did they move past it, or through it? When one feels caged, they are feeling as though they are trapped in their own negative feelings, telling themselves that because of their past failures, they can only talk about how they can t accomplish anything. This is the case in the poem, Caged Bird, by Maya Angelou, in which it states, The free bird thinks of another breeze / and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees / and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn / and he names the sky his own(Angelou) This means that the free bird, who may be described as someone who has it all, or has had little to no experience with devastating failure. On the other hand, the poem states, But a bird that stalks / down his narrow cage / can seldom see through his bars of rage / his wings are clipped / and his feet are tied / so he opens his throat to sing. (Angelou) This differentiates from the free bird, because the caged bird is described as one who is being restricted into his own limits, basically. One of the things holding him back is his own experiences, while the free bird wonders what is on the other end of the spectrum, as he is handed fat worms and is greeted by soft winds. The poem written by Maya Angelou is supposed to show perspective, on one end the bird is thought of as free, with no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore I felt that Urie Brofennbrenner ecological systems theory was best suited for Hone as it looks at the environment that surrounded the individual and how the impact of each system could affect them. The ecological systems perspective looks at the bigger picture of the individual. it regonises the relationship between environment and individual, for example the relationship between Hone and his school. In social work practice it helps to regonise the influence of the environment on the individual weather it be directly or indirectly. The application of the ecological systems theory enables me to identify the factors from each of Hone s system, which was causing an impact on him. Through the applying the systems theory I was able to gain to a better knowledge of understanding to his erratic behaviour and awareness that there were some underlying issues that needed to be addressed as well. Hone s mother leaving him when he was born is one the many or not root of the underlying issues. Again like Kate s case study I feel that another model would be working in conjunction with systems theory such as Freud s psychodynamic theory. I feel that the individual needs to be explored also and why they are behaving in such manner. The psychodynamic theory is about the exploration of the inner self and how the unconscious forces drive human behavior, how the clients identify the conflicts and their experiences. • 15. The Effects Of Water On The Body Weight Water is about 60% of the adult human body weight. The relative importance of water is readily apparent through the role it plays in various systems of the body. The popular notion, therefore, exists that one must drink eight 8 oz glasses of water, which amounts to about 2 L, per day. Currently, the Institute of Medicine states that the total beverage intake for men should be about 13 cups or 3 L and for women 9 cups or 2.2 L ( Water: How Much... ). The right amount of water one should drink each day ultimately depends on a number of factors, such as where one lives, the amount of activity, and personal health. My average daily water intake is less than the recommended amount of 2 3 L, which affects the physiological functions of my cardiovascular and renal systems. A low water intake affects the healthy functioning of the cardiovascular system. The decrease in effective circulating volume, or the extracellular fluid in the blood vessels that perfuse the tissues, decreases end diastolic volume that is not compensated for by the end systolic volume, which exhibits a smaller decline. As a result, the stroke volume decreases because the left ventricle does not fill up as much with blood. The large reduction in end diastolic volume and stroke volume is mainly a result of the decrease in venous return due to the reduced amount of fluid circulating in the body (Stohr et al. 894). This leads to a reduction in arterial and atrial pressure, which decreases the stretch of the blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. How Does Henry Fleming Show Courage Throughout history , we find courage weaving itself into the souls of remarkable people. A Soldier shows courage by sacrificing his/her life for their comrades and their cause. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines Courage as the quality of mind and spirit as one has in the face of peril and fear . Henry Fleming was naive, and a coward, but in the end, his mind and his spirit grew strong. As he exposed himself to the gruesome side of war, he fulfilled the definition of the term courage by making mistakes, learning to not overthink and misjudge, and by showing that love to one s home can be the necessary inspiration to go down fighting. Henry finally flourishes from a boy to an American courageous man. Fleming visualized war as a spotlight that would shine upon him. Fleming believed in honor; not in the sense of fighting for what s right, (at first) but fighting for a reputation. He left his home, his mother, and his boyhood to chase after a gilded future that would not come easy. Henry entered the army with the wrong image on fighting, and remotely mused on the aspects of what came with war. When the settlers set their feet in the New World, they had one agenda which was to achieve economic growth of the new land at all costs. It was then achieved at the expense of the Native Indians who had to be stripped of their land and resources. In most of the narratives, there is a lot of Puritan religious agenda that is directly based on the Bible as their religious authority. They base their arguments on the fact that God promises to freely provide for his children through His grace. This kind of belief is not found within the Native Indians religious belief system and thus they were viewed as Godless. In a way, the Western Christian values largely despised on the religious system of the Indians which heightened the tensions between the two communities. Essay on Feminism in Dubliners | Feminism in Dubliners | Mrs. Atkins; English A3 Tuesday, May 25, 2010 James Joyce s book of short stories entitled Dubliners examines feminism and the role of women in Irish society. The author is ahead of his time by bringing women to the forefront of his stories and using them to show major roles and flaws in Irish society, specifically in Eveline and The Boarding House . James Joyce portrays women as victims who are forced to assume a leading and somewhat patriarchal role in their families. He uses them to show the paralysis of his native land Ireland, and the disruption in social order that is caused by the constant cycle of abuse that he finds commonplace in Ireland. This is seen when the narrator speaks about the story of the field that Eveline, her brothers, and another family s children used to play on which was bought by a man from Belfast in order to build a house. Another example, is how she and her brothers would play out in a field, and her father would come to hunt them in out of the field with his blackthorn stick (34). This also symbolizes the discord of family relations, and the premature annihilation of her childhood innocence by her father and the premature end of innocence that is caused by abusive men to their children in Ireland. Eveline is also denied the basic right to love and affection by her own choice. She finds a man who loves and values her, and is the exact opposite of her abusive father. Frank represents the opportunity for escape and a break in the cycle. She finally has an opportunity for a new life, and she chooses to stay in Ireland to take care of her father and brothers. Eveline s choice to stay in Ireland, rather than to leave with Frank can be seen as a result of the lack of self worth and mental constraints set on her by her father, which parallels the fact that Ireland s paralysis is caused by the abuse of male authority roles. Eveline feels tied to her father, in the same way a hopeless chained animal who knows no better than to wait patiently and endure. The illusion of captivity was so complete that even though she had an opportunity to escape her cage , she chose to stay in it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like the Europeans to come later, the Arabs imposed taxes on the Berbers, however the Arabs allowed the Berbers to keep the laws and customs they already had. However, the explicit goal of Lyautey and his associates was to improve the quality of indigenous public service so that eventually it would function with only minimal French intervention (Gershovich). France contributed a lot to Morocco during its time as a colonial influence. It built 26,660 miles of roadways. It also helped to improve other infrastructure as well as modernize agricultural systems. France gifted to Morocco, with their own goals in mind, the starting blocks of a prosperous, efficient economy. That being said, Lyautey worked hard to not allow colons to enter Morocco, but the French leaders that came after him did not feel the same way. Colons did end up in the region, and Lyautey tried hard to prove that, he was not in a conquered country and to maintain the fiction that the French had been invited there to help (Bidwell). Regardless, racism proliferated and the indigenous population was subjugated. After Lyautey, Morocco began to resemble a different colonized state one under harsh foreign rule. They kept the façade of the sultan, and built schools and hospitals, but without involving the Moroccans in the process. Eventually, French rule over Morocco became so harsh compared to how it was under Lyautey that in 1953, Moroccans were, being imprisoned for waving their national banner (Bidwell). Another concept the French subscribed to, as well as other colonizers, was separating ethnic tribes or groups and putting them against each other in order to keep control over the region. In addition, like any other merger between two firms, companies benefit from significant cost synergy during the implementation of an acquisition and/or merger with other company. For example, when two companies combine their strengths to complement each other, they restructure their operations and as a result several offices and sites are closed down which leads to the laying off of employees, consolidating services and software applications. All these changes, result in synergy savings for the new company. A tax inversion is considered a form of tax avoidance, not tax evasion. To provide clarity and differentiate these two terms, tax inversion is simply a method that a U.S. corporation can use to avoid paying higher taxes by changing their tax address to a foreign nation. This practice is constitutional and therefore, legal (although many members of Congress are trying to pass laws that would put restrictions on future tax inversions). An example of a tax inversion is Burger King s acquisition of Tim Hortons Inc., a Canada coffee and doughnut chain. In his book Our Country, Josiah Strong stated that God had appointed Anglo Saxons to be their brother s keeper. Furthermore, Kipling bolstered the idea of the White Man s Burden , the duty of white people to help and educate people who lived in undeveloped civilization . Senator Albert J.
