The 13th Amendment
After the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and the ensuing American Civil War all states where
forced to ratify the thirteenth amendment which abolished slavery within the United States, or any
place subject to their jurisdiction. In 1870 the fifteenth amendment was passed making it
unconstitutional to prohibit voters on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
While the thirteenth and fifteenth amendments made it constitution for African Americans to vote
it did not prohibit states from implementing obstructions at voting booths such as poll taxes, literacy
test, lineage tracking, and other qualifications. While Plessy v. Ferguson established the separate
but equaldoctrine which is described as racially segregated but ostensibly ensuring equal
opportunities to all races. The established doctrine of Separate but Equal was never enforced,
and the cries of the neglected fell upon deaf ears until 1954, 58 years after a virtual caste system
was established in the Nation of freedom and equal opportunity segregating everything from
schools to bathrooms because of the color of your skin. After the Separate Car Act of 1890
passed in the State of Louisiana which required separate railway cars for blacks and whites a
man of mixed race who was seven eighths of European decent and of one eighth African descent
purchased a first class ticket, and upon taking his seat was once asked to move to the black only
car, then was arrested for violating the separate car act, Plessy s side argued that the Seperate Car
Act had violated his thirteenth and fourteenth amendment rights. Judge Ferguson found Plessy to
be guilty, and the Louisiana Supreme Court upheld his decision with the intention that it was the
rights of the state to regulate railroad companies within the state. ...The law regards man as man,
and takes no account of his surroundings or of his color when his civil rights as guarantied by the
supreme law of the land are involved. ― John Marshall Harlan the Great Dissenter Justice Harlan
was the single dissenter that believed the Seperate but equal doctrine was unconstitutional and that
the segregation of people because of their race was contradictory to the law. The Supreme Court s

Situational Influences on Purchasing Behavior
Running head: Situational Influences on Purchasing Behavior
Situational Influences on Purchasing Behavior
Abstract
There was an investigation in an attempt to understand what situational influences affect
purchasing behaviors of consumers. Fifty subjects were asked to complete a survey in
determining what attributes affect the decision to purchase a product. The effect of purchase was
based on three different times of day: morning, afternoon, and evening. The effect of purchase was
also based on whether subjects preferred caffeinated or non caffeinated soda depending on the
time of day. The subjects were asked to rate their preferences on a 5 point rating scale, one being...

We will also determine taste preference for that particular soda during a particular time of day.
To summarize the main objectives of the present study, we will investigate an answer to the
question of what impact situational influences on decision making have towards the purchase of
a product. We will assess three different time periods; morning, afternoon, and evening based on
the decision to drink a caffeinated or a non caffeinated soda. In order to achieve results, we
decided to develop a survey in which subjects were asked to complete a questionnaire based on
their preference for the type of soda one drinks during a particular time of day to see if there are
variations in taste attributes depending on the time of day the purchasing is taking place. We expect
individuals to purchase more caffeinated products during the morning and the afternoon. , Whereas
we expect them to purchase more non caffeinated products.
Method
Participants
Forty nine subjects volunteered to participate in a survey designed to measure people s preferences
for caffeine, diet, cola, non cola flavored, or clear cola in three different usage situations; the
morning, the afternoon, and at night. The subjects were asked to participate by the three members
of the research group. The subjects were not discriminated based on

Revision of Master Narratives within Jane Eyre and Wide...
To be able to discuss adequately how the master narratives of Bronte and Rhys time are revised,
one must first understand what those master narratives were and what the social mood of the time
was. From there one will be able to discuss how they were revised, and if in fact they were revised
at all.
Bronte is known as one of the first revolutionary and challenging authoress with her text Jane Eyre.
The society of her time was male dominated, women were marginally cast aside and treated as
trophies for their male counterparts. Their main role in life was to be a mother and a wife,

Any sign of deviancy would be punished by the patriarchal system of that time, especially that of a
deviant girl. As the patriarch was entirely male, the oppression of the female gender was swift and
harsh.
At Lowood Jane ultimately has to conform to the rules and regulations of the male domination to
exist and live. Here she becomes a quiet...disciplined and subdued character. This time in Jane s life,
brings up questions and queries into whether Bronte does in fact revise master narratives, which I
will look at later on.
Throughout the course of the text this female character pulls herself up from no social standing
to somebody with a wealthy inheritance, eventually marrying the man she loves under her
conditions, without having to compromise her beliefs or herself. Jane s relationship with
Rochester is a key element of Bronte s revising the master narrative. She of course falls in love
with Rochester whilst she is a member of his staff, she has no independence of her own, whether
that be financial or otherwise. She ends up fleeing Thornfield, for despite her love of Rochester,
she wants to be equal, and knows he ultimately wants to master her. A sign of what a typical
Victorian marriage was like, in which the woman would submit to the man and obey his orders.
Bronte dissects this notion, as Jane does

Jerome David Salinger Biography Essay
Jerome David Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye, was one of the most influential writers
of the twentieth century. He was born on January 1, 1919 in New York City and died on January
27, 2010 at the age of 91 due to natural causes. Salinger was the youngest child of Sol and
Miriam Salinger. Sol, a rabbi who ran a successful cheese and ham import business, married
Miriam Jillich, a non Jewish Scottish women. His family lived in the relative comfort of the
upper middle class, as do most of his central characters. Salinger excelled in dramatics and was
voted most popular actor at Camp Wigwam in the summer of 1930. However, he struggled with

Sylvia was of German descent, a possible Nazi, and their marriage only lasted about eight
months. Later, in 1955, Salinger remarried the daughter of a high profile art critic Claire
Douglas. Their marriage was far more successful than the previous, lasting a little over a decade
and producing two children Margaret and Matthew. Claire filed for divorce in 1966 and claimed
that if the marriage had continued further it would, seriously injure her health and endanger her
reason. This implies that domestic violence and/or mental manipulations may have taken place.
Douglas was not the only one to have implied this, Joyce Maynard describes Salinger as an
obsessive lover after he kicked her out after only ten months of living together. Jerome moved on
and was romantically involved with an actor, Ellen Joyce, then later married Colleen O Neill, to
whom he would remain married to until his death in 2010. The Catcher in the Rye became one of
the most influential and famous literary masterpieces of the twentieth century. Many readers had
split views and opinions on the novel at that time. Some readers loved the novel and the ideas
presented within it, while others thought Holden s quest to find something pure in a phony world
was an immoral view. Today, the novel has been incorporated into high school curriculum, where
young minds are introduced to the life themes Salinger

The Next War By Wilfred Owen
With the knowledge of war you have today, would you be willing to volunteer to sign up for the
front line?
Wilfred Owen, a World War One poet, revealed the unsettling subject matter of war by using his
own personal perspective to explore the harsh brutal reality of war.
Through sensory imagery, he portrayed the severe everlasting conditions. Owen s treatment for
shellshock at Craig Lockhart mental hospital influenced his writing and he was undergoing the
treatment when his first poem was published. His poems continued to be published even after his
death in November 1918, one week before the ceasefire.
Owen presents the horrific subject matter through Strange meeting , The Next Warand Anthem for
Doomed Youth . The shift in Owens tone explores his bitterness and shows that he begins to accept
the looming fact of his own impending death.
The mental implications of war on the soldiers challenged the way they functioned day to day. In
the Next War Owen demonstrates the mental implications through personifying death and engaging
the responder with sensory imagery.
He s spat at us with bullets and he s coughed as a result an image is created, the responder sees that
Owen s mental condition has him viewing everything as death. This was caused by his PTSD and
Shellshock, which was what prompted his treatment at Craig Lockhart, but it really reveals to the
responder that these implications last a lifetime.

Methanol Vs Isobutanol
Discussion
The results do not support the hypothesis as there is no general trend in the volume contraction.
However, there is a correlation between the number of carbon chains in the alcohol to the
contraction of the mixture. Methanol has had the most volume contraction, while having the least
amount of carbons in the molecule (CH3OH) having an average of 1.206ml in volume contraction.
Whereas Isobutanol, which has the highest amount of carbon chains (C4H9OH), has had the least
amount of average volume contraction of 0.578ml. According to the (Solubility of Things, n.d.), as
the amount of carbon atoms increases in the molecule, the alcohol has less solubility in water. This
is due to how there are more carbon atoms repulsing the water molecule, therefore having less
contact as well as hydrogen bonding with the HO chain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Water molecules contain a unique dipole property, having the hydrogen atoms being slightly more
positive than the oxygen atom, which allows for the attraction between OH chains. Although an
alcohol molecule contains an OH chain, carbon atoms repulse the water molecules while having a
weaker dipole force leading to less volume contraction. Furthermore, due to any disturbances such as
heat or kinetic energy as well as the repulsion from the carbon atoms they are constantly
transitioning throughout the mixture. This is evident from the solubility of isobutanol and water.
As there is a high amount of repulsion between water and alcohol molecules, the alcohol floats,
although there is minute change in volume (refer to results). This separation between liquids
decreases the amount of volume contraction, as they are more segregated as shown in graph 1. This
solubility of isobutanol was expressed in (Solubility of Things, n.d.), having only 0.11% solubility in

Mary Warren In The Crucible
In the Crucible there are a group of girls that go into the woods. They dance, chant, and some of
them even took there clothes off. They were caught by Reverend Parris. He wasn t sure on what
to think of it so he left it alone until that morning his daughter Betty was in bed sick. Parris and
some others began to investigate the girls, because they expected witchcraft. There are many
people in this tale that I could talk about, but the one I have chosen is Mary Warren. The reason
for this is because in my opinion she really helped bring the story to the conclusion that it did.
Whether she meant to, or not. She also had a change of heart in the play, more than once. So
now we shall indulge ourselves into the significance of this character and what role she truly
plays. Mary Warren is a young girl, 18 years of age. She lived as a servant to John and Elizabeth
Procter. She is one of the many girls that went into the woods to dance . After the girls were
caught they tried to take the attention of of themselves and put it on others. This caused a big
commotion, that in the end caused many people to lose their lives. The girls were saying that
people are witches in order to save there own lives. Marry being one of these girls was not
completely happy with what she was doing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

poppet to Elizabeth, Abigail took a needle and stabbed herself and accused Elizabeth of witchcraft.
What this had done, was that the men from the court came to the Proctors house looking for a
poppet which they found and found the needle in its stomach. Unknowingly Mary had put Mrs.
Proctor in jail and caused John to get even more involved than he had

Dodd Frank Act Essay
On July 21, 2010, President Obama signed the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer
Protection Act, which is commonly referred as the Dodd Frank Act. This act was passed as a
response to the Great Recession in order to prevent potential financial debacle in the future. This
regulation has a significant impact on American financial servicesindustry by placing major changes
on the financial regulation and agencies since the Great Depression. This paper examines the
history and impact of Dodd Frank Act on American financial services industry.
The world s financial system was almost brought down in 2008 by the collapse of Lehman
Brothers that was a major international investment bank at that time. The government
sponsored these banks bailouts that were funded by tax money in order to restore the industry.
Before the crisis, banks were lending irresponsible mortgages to subprime borrowers who had
poor credit histories. These mortgages were purchased by banks and packaged into low risk
securities known as collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). CDOs were divided into tranches by
its default risk. The ratings of those risks were determined by rating agencies such as Moody s
and Standard Poor s. However, those agencies were paid by banks and created an environment in
which agencies were being generous to ratings since banks were their major clients.
Also, in the pre crisis era, banks and other financial services firms including hedge funds and mutual
funds were searching

In the beginning of the play, Macbeth starts out as the Thane of Glamis. It appears that he will

Transhumanism In Eugenics
In Francis Galton s Eugenics: Its Definition, Scope, and Aims the purpose of eugenics is to
improve the human race. Eugenicists view the undesirable qualities in a population as aspects of
humanity that can be improved upon and developed through the careful regulation of breeding
within a society. If the breeding of specific traits were to be controlled, the best possible offspring
would be produced. The desire to improve the humanraceis a theme also found in Nick Bostrom s
Transhumanist Values and The Transhumanist FAQ. The purpose of transhumanism is to enhance
humans through the use of technology and other means. Transhumanists want to evolve the human
race into a posthuman form that has greater capacities than humans currently obtain.... Show more

This is accomplished through the sterilization of those who are considered inferior. If only superior
humans breed, the rising generations of people will continue to improve, resulting in the
improvement of the society as a whole. The determination of an individual s worth leaves too much
room for opinion, resulting in an increased risk that eugenics will be abused by those with racials
biases. Transhumanists view the purpose of transhumanism as being the enhancement of the
human race through highly regulated research/clinical trials and equal opportunity for all races
and classes of people to have access to the technology being used. The careful control of
technological advances and the focus on all classes and types of people leaves very little room
for the ideology to be abused by those with any kind of racial biases. Both eugenics and
transhumanism want to improve the human race in one way or another, but they vary in the
execution of their ideals. Eugenicists scarcely acknowledged that their ideology could be
misused and did not provide safeguards in case it were to be misused. Transhumanists fully
acknowledge the risks involved with their ideology and carefully designed their ideology so as to
have preventive measures in place in case it were to

Wuthering Heights Weather Essay
In Emily Bronte s masterpiece, Wuthering Heights, weather plays an enormous role in setting
atmosphere, helping us understand her characters, and showing emotion. Wuthering heights
portrays the moors of England as very mystic and wild through its stormy weather. Ellen shows this
by narrating, There was no moon, and everything beneath lay in misty darkness: not a light gleamed
from any house, far or near all had been extinguished long ago: and those at Wuthering Heights
were never visible [from Thrushcross Grange] still she asserted she caught their shining. Look! she

completely different atmosphere from Wuthering Heights and carries very different symbolic
meaning, showing how the Lintons are foils fo Cathy and Heathcliff, as they are civilized. The

Essay On Magnetic Field
Summer of 2017 saw UT Southwestern Medical Center make considerable strides in biotech with
the development of high frequency alternating magnetic fields to destroy bacterial films on the
surfaces of artificial joints in the body simply by heating the joints themselves. These bacterial
infections tend to be of great detriment to patients, and they prove impeccably resilient to
antibiotics. Since then, that same research has been furthered to prove itself on human test subjects.
Now, the U.S. Energy Department illustrates the ability to see bacterial cells magnetic fields via
electron microscopy, which marks a milestone both for microscopy and for scientific rendering of

When we look at samples prepared in the conventional way, we have to make many assumptions
about their properties based on their final state, but with the new technique, we can now observe
these processes first hand, Prozorov explains. It can help us understand the dynamics of
macromolecule aggregation, nanoparticle self assembly, and the effects of electric and magnetic
fields on that process. This bears significant implications for biotechnological applications,
especially in light of recent research regarding the use of magnetic heating to eradicate bacteria
from surfaces within the human body.
People get metal parts implanted all the time to compensate for injuries or very old body parts.
These pieces range from metal plates to pins to artificial joints, but they all serve relatively similar
purposes holding bones together. The problem that comes from this from time to time is that
bacteria inside a patient s body eventually find these metal surfaces and seek refuge on or in them.
Ordinarily, physicians recommend surgery to get rid of those bacteria, but new research suggests
that surgery may no longer be necessary; rather, it may be possible to get the same result with the
non invasive alternative of magnetic heating.
These bacteria can be very difficult to remove because they form biofilms thin sheets that form a
viscous, protective membrane of sorts like plaque on enamel. Even though this only happens to

Amendments Of The 13th Amendment
Thesis
After the United States abolished slavery, the country passed three new Constitutional amendments.
The 13th Amendment abolished slavery, the 14th Amendment provided citizenship to newly freed
slaves, and the 15th Amendment gave them the right to vote. However, the Supreme Court stated
judgments and rulings that placed blacks in a degrading and an inferior position in the United
States. Established from the Jim Crow Laws, throughout the years of 1877 to 1954, schools were
segregated by law. Black people were not allowed to attend a white dominant school. In 1957, Little
Rock, Arkansas, nine African American students enrolled at Central High School, an all white
school, were prevented from entering the school because they were black. It caused conflict and
controversy between the governor of Arkansas and the president of the united states, rebellion of
society and the students (Civil Rights Movement), and in our society today, education is accessible
to everyone.
Orval E. Faubus and Dwight D. Eisenhower Governor Orval Faubus was a huge national image of

of nine African American students, called The Little Rock Nine, to Central High School. In 1958,

The Importance Of The CSI Effect On Crime Scene Investigation
Introduction Television has been around for years making money off of the public s interests.
Starring shows such as CSI Miami, Forensic Files, Cold Case, Bones, and many more
demonstrate the procedures of forensic science at active crime scenes. However, these shows
have given the wrong perception of forensic science and the procedures to investigating an active
crime scene. These television shows have made a lasting impact on the public s perception of
Crime Scene Investigation still today. Often times these shows have made it difficult for judges,
attorneys, lawyers, and juries to understand forensic science. CSI Effect Crime Scene
Investigations are fascinating to the public and have been portrayed on television for many years.
These television shows have influenced how the public perceives the procedures of investigating
crime scenes. Forensic science and investigating a crime scene is a very complex and unique
career. Television has exaggerated and wrongly influenced the perception of forensic science, crime
scene investigation, and procedures in criminalistics. The effect that these crime scene television
shows have on the public is called the CSI Effect (Shelton, 2008). The CSI effect can lead to jurors
wrongly acquitting an individual because they believe the job wasn t thorough enough. There are

The Great Train Robbery And Edwin Porter
In this essay I will be discussing five key points throughout Post Production history between the
1900s 1960s. Post Production is seen as a vital component in the cinematic industry as it
essentially finalises the final products. Techniques that have been developed over the years are
incredibly important, but they all have an origin. Although these techniques started out without
overwhelming effect, they are now unbelievably crucial to how films are constructed. The five
points I wish to discuss go as follows: The Great Train Robbery and Edwin Porter himself, D.W.
Griffith and his overwhelming influence on editing, The Jazz Singer, the Kuleshov Effect and
finally, 2001: A Space Odyssey. As well as discussing these key factors, this essay will take into
consideration secondary material. In the early years of post production, there was a distinct lack of
editing within the film industry. Everything filmed was for the most part one continuous shot and
lacking too much creativity in the post production region. Edwin Porter was one of the key
founders that changed the way post production was addressed. Although he originally filmed
following what is referred to as Aristotelian construction (Musser, 1991, p167) he began paying
closer attention to how a story could be told more effectively through visual representation. Edwin
began straying away from Aristotelian construction and instead opted to use cutting to help him
create the story he wished to create. Whilst this was not an

Why A College Education Should Be Free
Foundations of Writing
Argument Paper
Aby Adams
Why Education should be free Everyone needs education if they plan to go anywhere in their
future. Even as teenagers, education is so important. It prepares teenagers for their future and
college education. But it is so expensive. Once one graduates from high school they re off on their
own paying their own expenses on top of all the college education expenses. Education is so
expensive, especially in today s world. So why is it not free yet? First off, if education was free,
college students wouldn t be in so much debt. The average college student graduates college with
$60,000 in debt. Today college students are highly in debt, and some are in debt for the rest of
their lives. Just from

John Lennon Accomplishments
John Lennon s life as a Beatle began when he was 20 years old, and even though the band may
have broken up, his love for music never died. Along with being a music lover, he was a large
peace activist. Not only him, but also his wife, Yoko Ono. Together they traveled the world, going
to different places and spreading their voices and opinions, trying to be heard, and trying to change
the way society looked at things. Throughout John Lennons career, he and Ono dedicated a large
portion of their time to being anti war activists, as well as influencing this ideal on the youth.
Overall, John Lennon was a peace activist through his musical career and used his fame to draw
attention to his beliefs.

After him and his wife Yoko Ono were married, they took their two week honeymoon at the
presidential suite at the Hilton Amsterdam on March 25, 1969. Lennon referred to this protest as
his Bed In for Peace (Lifton). The press was invited into their hotel room for 12 hours each day
to observe, learn, and ask questions about Lennon and Ono s participation in the anti war peace
movement. Before the press had arrived, the press had completely different expectations than
Lennon and Ono. When the press had arrived, Lennon and Ono were dressed in their pajamas,
prepared to talk about their position on the on going Vietnam War. During these two weeks of
protesting, was also the time when Lennon and Ono recorded and released the song Give Peace
a Chance, which, as said before, became an important part of their activist careers. A lot of
people might look at the idea of sitting in bed for a week and letting your hair grow for peace
remains undoubtedly silly, the couple admitted the absurdity was part of the plan (Lifton). If this
were any ordinary people, it would not have had such an effect on the press, or society, but since
John Lennon was previously a very well known musician, he was able to use his fame to his
advantage. This allowed him to lure in the paparazzi to publicize the event. Lennon confronted

Many Catholics Practice The Ten Commandments
Many Catholics practice the Ten Commandments. Which are I am the LORD your God, you
shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve, you shall not take the name of
the Lord your God in vain, remember to keep holy the Sabbath day, honor your father and your
mother, you shall not kill, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear
false witness against your neighbor, you shall not covet your neighbor s wife, and you shall not
covet your neighbor s goods. The 10th commandment You shall not covet your neighbor s goods
forbids the wanting to or taking of someone else s property along with the 7th commandment.
The 7th commandment condemns theft and the feelings of envy, greed, and jealousy in reaction
to what other people have. Catholicism was one of the principal religions during this time
period, therefore they should have executed these 10 commands. Nowadays, we have
modernized banks many in trust their money in. The banks lends money to customers at a higher
rate than they pay to depositors or than they borrow it. The difference, known as the margin is
kept by the bank. For example, if a bank pays 1% interest on deposits they may charge 6%
interest on loans grossing 5% for themselves. Moreover, bank employees from Wells Fargo
secretly opened unauthorized accounts to hit sales targets and receive bonuses. Not only is this
identity theft, however, it shines even more light on how the love of money is the root of all evil.

Additionally, in his novel Squirrel INC., Stephen Denning states that a story can communicate a
company s brand (56). Also, a personal story can communicate who you are as an entity (54). We
decided that a compilation of personal stories would be the best method to communicate the
values and outcomes of the SDP, and therefore, show administrators how valuable the program is
to people. Denning further supports this idea when he states that effective companies spark
change when Groups possess analogous who we are stories, which are less about the leader s
personal experiences and attitudes and more about the joint experiences and attitudes of the
people within the organization and their shared beliefs (Denning 58). Therefore, the sections of
the interviews we chose to include in the video help paint a picture of the organization as a
whole. Also, we added in a few photos of the participants activities, so as to not only let our
viewers hear the benefits of the program, but also see visual proof of how the program is a
beneficial entity. Denning states that In performing the story, the storyteller relives the story and
makes it fresh as if the viewers were there at those particular, specified moments (Denning 26).
Our goal was to have our audience feel as though they were apart of each participants activities
through the various photos. Furthermore, we decided to begin our video with a brief introduction
into the program by one of the former chairs of the SDP, and what it essentially accomplishes

Olaf s Transformation
There are many stories of Olaf told by the people from his village. There is a story about Olaf
defeating a dragon in face to face combat to protect his village or him racing down a mountain of
lava. But this is the story of how Olaf got his shield. Long time ago, Olaf was a simple shepherd,
living in the mountains above his village. He was very well known for being the kindest man
anyone had ever met. He always had a smile on his face. Tales about him say he could chop down
trees with his bare hands, and that strength was useful while helping others. Every time someone
was in trouble, Olaf was there to help. He ripped trees from the roots to stop river flow, to save
drowning goats, and he put out fires burning the village all on his own. He... Show more content on

cleared they saw Olaf, standing in a room full of treasure, with a weak but happy boy in his
arms. But before they could begin to celebrate, the ground began to rumble and shake. A giant
troll roared from deep within the vault. He had a giant club, about the size of a tree. The troll
charged like a frantic bull. Olaf wasn t worried, he stood his ground and put the little boy behind.
The troll bashed Olaf with his club, but Olaf did not shift from his position. The troll was big
and strong, but he was no match for Olaf s might. Olaf grabbed the club with one hand, and
crushed it with the sheer force of his palm. He picked up the troll and spun him around like a
helicopter, before hurling him deep into the mountain. The troll was defeated, and the boy was
rescued. But then suddenly the ground began to rumble and shake once again, had the troll
returned? No, the vault, it was crumbling apart! As Olaf cut his way through the mountain, he had
weakened the structure, and now it was caving in. The ceiling began to decay, Olaf covered the
boy with his back. With no obvious way out, Olaf grabbed the ice covered door, and held it up like

The Perfect Murder Alfred Hitchcock Rhetorical Techniques
Alfred Hitchcock Presents The Perfect Murder : A Rhetorical Analysis In The Perfect Murder,

is a story about two brothers, Paul and Henri, they are trying to come up with the perfect plan to
get their inheritance from their recently deceased uncle, by any means necessary. The only thing
stopping them is their perfectly healthy and stubborn Aunt Rosalie. Aunt Rosalie is very

Henri is one of the two nephews of the rich uncle who recently passed away. From time to time
he does a short narration of the film. The story begins in the house of late uncle with the reading
of his will and continues throughout the rest of the film. The rest of the story tells about the
relationship between the two brothers, Paul and Henri, and the newly widowed and rich old
Aunt Rosalie. Considering the movie was made during 1956 the content and them are consistent
with the time frame and geared toward an adult audience that are fans of mystery movies. It has
an awesome ending twist and illustrates, quit nicely, that you always get what you deserve. The
sole purpose of this file is to deliver that message. The tone however is very inconsistent
throughout the film. When the film begins it is very gloomy and dark because of the death of
their uncle. It soon shifts into the plan of the two brothers and the tone becomes suspicious and
the music is very mysterious. Once Paul begins to lay his deceptive relationship on Aunt Rosalie
the tone changes again and becomes cheerful and happy and shows Rosalie being deceptive by

14.5. % for Tigo and 12.6% for Airtel respectively. The combine market shares (27.1%) of the two
firms is lesser than that of MTN with market share of 48.5% .Using the market shares reveals that
MTN will still have more dominance in the market than the newly created firm from the merger.
This provides proof of the fact that the newly created firm would not have much control over the
market in using predatory pricing to drive competitors and potential competitors out of the market.

The concern of the regulator will be to determine if the merger could raise or reduce the welfare of
consumers. That is if the reduction in cost measured by the lower average cost would be sufficiently
large relative to the rise in price, then the merger would improve welfare of consumers as cost
saved will be greater than deadweight loss. But if the rise in price after the merger is sufficiently
large relative to the reduction in average cost then the merger lowers welfare (deadweight
loss). The antitrust authorities can determine if the merger would enhance welfare or not
depending on how reacts to the merger. The goal of competitors is to determine whether the
merged firm will provide quality or worse services compared to the combined premerger services
provided by the firms engage in the merger. If the quality of services provided by the merged
firms falls then competitors will be better off, since demand for their service is likely to increase.
The increase in demand for the services of competitors induces them to provide more to the
market, but on the net the total quality of service provided in the industry would falls creating
higher prices, in that case the merger will not be challenge by the competitors. The higher price
resulting from the merger reduces welfare as consumer surplus falls. On the other hand if the new

Roosevelt s Stewardship Theory

In actuality their interpretations differed on the source, purpose and limitations of their
Constitutional powers effectually placing Lincoln s actions as inspiration rather than precedent.
Specifically, Lincoln s source of broad executive powers was derived from the Constitution in
defense of the Constitution. His executive authority encroached on existing federal powers
previously not bestowed to the Presidency. His encroachments were intended to be temporary war
measures and were necessary to save the constitutional government of the union. This was a
temporary suspension supported by Locke s social compact theory which influenced the writing of
the Constitution. Lincoln s emancipation proclamation both showed Constitutional restraint by
applying the order only to enemy combatants as well as by enumerating the reinstatement of
elections in the south on re admittance into the Union. This placed the ultimate authority within the
Constitution. Lincoln s original insistence to follow the fugitive slave Act as President shows that
in a time of peace Lincoln would have followed the law until the issue was fully settled by
appropriate avenues within the existing constitution to change national policy. In contrast Roosevelt
saw the Constitution as a flawed document and believed a higher purpose required him to act. His

Difference Between Inorganic Growth And Organic Growth
Organic growth is where a company grows by increasing its turnover/sales revenues. (It can also
be defined as growth of a company by building on its existing knowledge or resources). With an
increased revenue the company can easily make profits, it then ploughs back the profits into the
business enabling it to grow. To increase turnover/sales revenue the company can do so through
increasing its customers (find new customers to add to existing ones) or developing new products.
For instance, Sunlight and Berendsen growth is attributed more to organic growth whereby they
have been able to increase their customers in existing locations and new EU operational areas.
Inorganic growth is growth generated through the company joining with other companies. Organic
growth can be by mergers or takeovers. A merger is where two companies through an agreement
join. They agree on how to conduct their operations, resource sharing among other aspects of their
business. A takeover is whereby a company buys/owns 51% or more of the shares of another
company (The Times 100, n.d). This gives it a right to majority voting power, it controls the
management and financial decisions of the business. Inorganic growth can take place via horizontal
integration or vertical integration. Under horizontal integration two companies or firms at the same
stage of production or operating in the same line of business join as was in the Sunlight and
Berendsen which both had specialty in providing textile services

Fahrenheit 451 Personal Response Essay
One of the phrases that I chose to include on the poster is, THE FOOLISH. I chose this phrase
because that is how the general population is perceived in this book. They easily believe what is
told to them and follow the orders of anyone, making them very gullible. Society, at this point,
does not really have any individuality. They follow the group opinion and no longer come up with
ideas of their own. So, THE FOOLISH is the main descriptor of society, or the antagonist, Another
wordthat I chose to include is, REMEMBER. This word was chosen because it was the duty of
the protagonist, Montag, to remember his part of the story. It was vital for him to do so because it
was the only way that the bookswere going to survive throughout the war. Montag really struggled
with this job because he could never really quite comprehend what was going on, until he
absolutely needed it. In addition to that, I chose the word, DEPRESSION. This word was chosen...

This phase was chosen because throughout the book Montag felt a kind of big brother presence
watching him. An example of this is when the hound is sent to sniff around his house after they
knew that he had books. Also, Beatty constantly knew about what Montag was doing, which made
him very nervous and swayed some of his decisions. This was important because it affected how
the reader viewed the society as a whole. MANIPULATION was also an important word added to
my project. Manipulation was used very often throughout the story, especially with the character
Beatty. Beatty often used long, drawn out sentences with a lot of references to confuse Montag and
change his opinion on the situation. In fact, Beatty s entire role in the book was to manipulate
Montag into believing the things that society did at that time. It had a huge impact on the plotline
that was completely necessary for the story to turn out the way it did, which is why it was

I can never consent to be an executioner (Hart, 216). In this act, Wolfe was able to show that one

In previous courses that I have partaken in it had always been told that Captain James Wolfe
was a mad man at the end of his wit, and that his attack at the Anse du Foulon was a last ditch
effort for Wolfe to die with honor on the field of battle. Indeed James Wolfe had his share of
problems. Before being able to rejoice in being promoted to captain of the 4th Foot, he was
passed the grave news that his brother Edward, one year his inferior, had died from the
inclement conditions at Flanders. However, Wolfe was one of the lucky people who understood
death as part of war. Wolfe s main problem was the way that the military was handled by those in
charge. Speaking on the refusal for his leave to Metz to study in artillery, he sent a private letter
in which he described his unhappiness with their (his superiors) decision; They oppose the only
method that can be fallen upon to preserve any knowledge of military affairs in the army. This is a
dreadful mistake and, if obstinately pursued, will disgust a number of good intentions, and preserve
that prevailing ignorance of military affairs that has been so fatal to us in all our undertakings ...

example, when Carl is in his jail cell, the camera is shot at a high angle, tilted and centered on

of how little power and hopeless Carly is behind bars. Also, during the riot scenes, the camera is

The Inventions Of The Cotton Gin During The Industrial...
During the Industrial Revolution, many inventions were produced. In 1793, Eli Whitney
invented the cotton gin. Eli Whitney was a farm boy and was trying to make a name for himself
as a manufacturer. About a few days later, he developed a machine to restructure the cotton
industry. The pasteurization was created by Louis Pasteur in 1864. Louis Pasteur was a chemistry
professor and was studying fermentation. He created this invention for beer because there was
trouble with brewing and kept going bad while no one knew why. There is a big time difference
between the year date they were both created. They both have been known for many years and are
still being used to this day. These two inventions have made a huge impact throughout history and
people s lives. Cottonhas been known for many years, but it was not used as much as compared
to today. For many years, the only way to separate the cotton seeds from its fibers was to pull
them out by hand. It was a very slow and hard occupation. The way the cotton gin worked was by;
the cotton needs to fall through the feeder hopper, goes through a place where it comes into the
wire teeth, which seizes the fibers for the seeds and comes out of the machine. Although the cotton
gin was a very advantageous machine, it affected many slaves. It came with a number of
unintended consequences, especially towards slavery. During this era, cotton was the most arduous
plant since the seeds needed to be removed and that was a wearying process.

Hamilton Vs The Lion King
There are few shows in the history of Broadway and musical theatre that can claim to have ever
had the popularity and mass intrigue as Lin Manuel Miranda s smash hit, historical musical
Hamilton. The two hour rap based musical tells the story of America s founding father Alexander
Hamilton from his immigration to New York to rise in power amongst the first presidential cabinet
and ultimate death at the hands of a former ally. Gaining support from celebrities and President

After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in other shows?
This is unfortunately not the case. As explained by several producers, sheer cost from popularity
may be bringing down audience attendance. The top price is now $850, but the headlines
trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so
much, they re willing to pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re
not willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime (Riedel).
This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and unable to fill seats forcing
them to close. The most prominent example being Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of
the most well known actresses on Broadway, Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months
(Playbill). The sweeping change is most noticeable to the majority of the public however, through
the Annual Tony Awards. While the nominations have proven to be fairly spread across the board
of shows, the sweeping wins of Hamilton have changed the way in which producers seek to
advertise and attract ticket buyers. So why large budget productions have been able to afford the
costs of added print materials, smaller less popular productions have resorted to more consumer

Redistricting In The United States Voters
Voters should care about redistricting because it highly concerns them. The city that they are
living in could become divided or family members could be in different districts. I believe that
there is a problem with our current system on redistricting mainly because us people don t have
a say in it. I think if we got to see what our state legislators were wanting to do in the future, then
we would be able to have a say in it. One of the main negative effects of political redistricting is
gerrymandering. Being able to just change the districts to keep or change the political power is
unfair. They can do this to just be able to win the vote in the end. One positive aspect is all the
voters are fairly representative, meaning they all feel like their vote will count (unless
gerrymandering is happening). On Ballotpedia on Indiana, we have 9 representatives and 150
state legislators and the state legislators do the redistricting. One reform that is going around the
United States is the Electoral system and wanting to change it. I personally do not believe in
changing the Electoral College because it s something we have been using for over 200 years now,
and it works. I also believe that the Electoral College is a fair way for electionsto happen and it
highly relies on our votes. Ranked Choice Voting(RCV) is when voters rank the following election
candidates in their favorable order and decide then who is their best pick. Winner take all is
exactly what it means, the winner takes it all in the election. I do not think it is in the public
interest for my state to use a commission or a board for redistricting because it comes down to
what political party controls the board. For example, if you have a board of 10 people... Show more

International Student Immigration Research Paper
As an international student, every year I must go and get my visa from the U.S embassy in
Nassau. It is required of me, and without my visa, I wouldn t be able to attend school the
upcoming year, or perhaps even travel to the United States. The process is a hard one, sometimes
taking several days and leaving many waiting for hours and even weeks only to be decline, and
due to recent political events, that process has only gotten worst. For international students, how
we are viewed at times, and the growing problem of immigration and how that affects our goals of
education is an increasing social problem that needs to be addressed immediately. In society today

Population Growth and
Urbanization
Immigration has had a major impact upon the United States population growth, while the less
developed countries, such as Africa and Asia have nearly all the populationgrowth. By 2050, India
will become the most populated country (Mooney, page 440). The world is expected to increase
in population by 2.3 billion individuals, between 2009 and 2050; it is projected by the 2009 report
of United Nations, a population of 9.1 billion in the world. The Industrial Revolution aided in the
swift growth of world population, and it improves the standard of living conditions, such as better
food, clean drinking water and better housing.

The Keirsey Test
Who exactly would be considered a Guardian be in today s society? The image of a knight comes
to mind, armor clad and wading mindlessly into battle. How exactly does that apply to me, a 26
year old bookworm with a flair for the artistic? That was exactly the question I asked myself when I
received the title Guardian from the Keirsey temperament sorter(similar to the Myers Briggs Type
Indicator model). Faced with a very brief description and the horrifying news that 45% of the
population shares my personality (a unique snowflake, indeed) I began to dig into what it exactly
it means to be a guardian. The Keirsey test provides test takers with only two of four categories that
are generally used in tests of this type (with the remaining two

Roy Lichtenstein Drowning Girl
Roy Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 September 29, 1997) was one of the most innovative artists
towards the end of the 20th century. He helped originate modern day Pop Art, and his first
pieces of work were all based off of comic strips, advertisements, etc. that mimicked the
indecency that newspaper reproductions had for printing. These artworks altered the history of
modern art and created a new, American feel and view to the way art was seen as. Lichtenstein s
success was through all of his time, focus, and energy that was put into his creations, and he
went on to create more than 5,000 paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, murals and other
objects after his peak in the 1960s. Lichtenstein s piece Drowning Girl (1963) was an oil and
synthetic polymer paint on canvas (171.6 x 169.5 cm). He based this painting off of Run for
Love!, the melodramatic lead story in DC Comics Secret Love #83 (1962), to portray a different
message than the actual comic. Lichtenstein altered words such as I don t care! and the man s
(boyfriend s) name, when originally they were I don t care if I have a cramp! and Mal, not Brad,
in the comic. Audiences could also see that his painting is extremely cropped;... Show more content

Colorado Tynes Case Study
The Colorado Rockies are in the midst of a breakout season, as their young talent begins to
flourish at the major league level. It s been exciting to see the franchise find some success, but it
doesn t seem like the front office is satisfied with their roster. As the trade deadline approaches, the
Rockies are reportedly interested in one of the biggest bats on the market.
According to Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com, Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez is drawing
interest from the Rockies, as the team prepares to make a run at the postseason. It doesn t seem
wise to sacrifice the future for a high priced rental, but it may be the only way to impress Nolan
Arenado. The Rockies need to resemble contenders, if they want the third baseman to remain ...

Throughout the past couple seasons, Martinez has battled different injuries, but he seems to finally
be healthy.
At the moment, the Rockies roster is loaded with different corner outfield options, who fail to
produce regularly. Ramiel Tapa is the only impact option, who hasn t landed on the disabled list
yet. He s been great since debuting this season, but it s tough to depend on someone without a track
record.
Throughout the past couple weeks, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks have
also been linked to Martinez. Morosi notes, that Martinez could be a valuable option in the NL
West, due to the high number of left handed starters in the division. These three teams won t be the
only suitors for his services though, as the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals have both
shown consistent interest.
If the Rockies choose to deal for Martinez, their ceiling will change quite a bit. It will still be
tough to see them making any noise in the playoffs, but anything can happen in October. The front
office has to be realistic about a potential deal with the Tigers, because there will be other
opportunities to win, down the

The Battle Of Midway During World War II Essay
The Battle of Midway was fought from June 3rd to June 5th, 1942 between the Japanese and
United States during World War II. The end result of this battle was the destruction of four
Japanese carriers, two cruisers, three destroyers, and two hundred and ninety two aircraft by U.S.
fighters and dive bombers. Conversely, the U.S. only lost a carrier, the USS Yorktown, a destroyer,
the USS Hammann, and 145 aircraft. Unlike previous battles which were fought through traditional
tactics, the Battle of Midwaywas fought with unconventional tactics that resulted in a turning point
for United States Naval power worldwide. Through the development of new tactics, refined
intelligence, the weakness of the Japanese plan, and Japanese over confidence the Battle of
Midway was a turning point for U.S. sea power.
The Battle of Midway was a turning point in the Pacific War not only because the U.S. was
advanced in their new tactical capabilities, but also because they had crushed a tested and
undefeated Japanese Navy that was projected to win. The U.S. set a new standard for themselves
by integrating aircraft carriers into its fleet and was able to strike at a moment s notice from a
much closer range than the land based aircraft. The effective range of the fleet s strike arm had
grown so big that navies could now engage without ever sighting each other, just as they had in the
Coral Sea. Every element involved in this battle was able to make it the most impactful naval battle

Family Systems Theory Paper
Family Systems
Ja Keitha Brown
Liberty University
Family systems play an intricate role in human development for children. To understand how it all
works together, family must be defined. According to Merriam Webster, a family is defined as a
group of people living under one roof and usually under one head. (2015). One person could
interpret this definition, as a family being mother, father and child or children however, to someone
else that definition could be completely different. Their definition of family could include
grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins. There will also be children that grow up in same sex
families that will define their family system differently.

in them over the years. It is definitely a blessing for those parents who raise their children that do
not turn away from everything they have taught them throughout the years as well as watching
them install those same values into their children. This is allowing the family system to continue on

What Are The Positive And Negative Impact Of Immigration...
LESSON 15 Immigration and Urban Growth
Objectives:
Identify which countries most of the immigrants came from and why immigrants flocked to the
United States
Identify the positive and negative impact of immigrants on the United States
Identify the positive and negative traits of American Politics during this time period
Immigrants and America, the Melting Pot begins.
Between 1870 and 1920, about 20 million Europeans immigrated to the United States. Many of
them came from eastern and southern Europe, which had not provided large numbers of
immigrants before. Some, like Jews, fled religious persecution. Other immigrants came to the
United States to escape economic hardship. Many left Europe full of ideas for reform and political
freedom denied to them in the past.
About 200,000 Chinese immigrants came from 1851 to 1883. Many thousand immigrants came
from Japan as well. From 1880 to 1920, about 260,000 immigrants came from the Caribbean.
Many Mexicans immigrated to the United States as well. Many Mexicans became part of the
country when territory was added after the Mexican War. About a million immigrants came from
1910 to 1930 to escape turmoil in Mexico.
Most immigrants traveled by steamship, riding in steerage, the cargo holds below the ship s
waterline. Conditions were cramped, with little light or air and were unclean. Immigrants often
suffered from disease. Immigrants who arrived in New York were processed at Ellis Island. The
process, which took

Damnation of a Canyon Essay
The Damnation of a Canyon
Not many people know of the used to be 150 mile excursion that the Glen Canyon had to offer.
Not many people know how to sail a raft down a river for a week. Not many people know how to
interact with nature and the animals that come with it. We seem to come from a world that is
dependent on time and consumed in money. Edward Abbey is what you would call an extreme
environmentalist. He talks about how it was an environmental disaster to place a dam in which to
create Lake Powell, a reservoir formed on the border of Utah and Arizona. He is one of the few that
have actually seen the way Glen Canyon was before they changed it into a reservoir. Today, that
lake is used by over a million people, and is one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stated that it was the difference between life and death. Glen Canyon was alive. Lake Powell
is a graveyard. He really seems to be going out on a limb in saying this extreme of a statement. I
think that he is wrong in saying that. I feel that he is only looking at one side of the story. I
would say the opposite, but for a rhetorical analysis proposes only, I will come from his point of
view in researching that he came to that conclusion under the assumption that the wildlife and
nature was more alive then the life outside of the dam. Lake Powell is a graveyard in such that
there is nothing natural about it. The rocks are pretty and the water is blue. Abbey talks of a
term called bathtub ring , it is left on the canyon walls, after each drawdown of the water level.
The park rangers in Glen Canyon consider it to be not of great importance, and that is one of the
only illusions that you look at upon a natural lake. To some people seeing that effect is more
then they have seen or may ever see in their life when it comes to nature. People come from
places where there isn t a lot of wildlife around them. The closest they get seeing that might just
be from a book or a video they saw in school. So what if they dump a ton of striped bass and
rainbow trout into the lake every year. One of those fishes could be the first one ever

Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay
The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and
interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect,
customs and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump
off the page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that
reason, I feel that this is an outstanding piece of work.
One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of
authentic dialect based on the story s setting. In Tennessee s Partner, Harteuses this tactic best when
quoting the title character. For example, when Tennessee s Partner suddenly appears... Show more

I call.
LYNCH: Two bowers and an ace.
TENNESSEE: That takes me.
Another local color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee s Partner was the development of
characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the
characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the
use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush
era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men.
This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the
time s concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his
own personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s
burial to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves
on from the finality of the situation with ease.
Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of
Tennessee s Partner into a character itself. The settings in most local color stories usually have an
emphasis on nature and the land is usually remote and out of the way, and the setting of this story is
no different.

Examples Of Masculinity In Hip Hop
Secondly, gender is the key elements of cultural formation of hip hop. When focusing on this
aspect, there are obvious influences from African American hip hop to Asian hip hop. The
fashion of the black people, so called street fashion presents the connotative bad image of black
people, such as drag and violence. Therefore, it can be presumed that these fashion establishes the
symbol of bad authority or manliness to Asian rapper. Therefore, in the most of the music video of
Asian hip hop, the rappers wear caps, oversize t shirt, and gold accessories, like African American
rappers do.
On the other hand, the different way to describe their manhood can be seen in the music videos.
The concept of masculinity in the original hip hop which

The Organizational Context Of Practice
Competency Thesis
The Organizational Context of Practice: The West Virginia Department of Health and Human
Resources is a government organization. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human
Resources has different bureau s which addresses needs of the public. The Bureau of Children and
Families serves populations from children, youth, and adults. The Bureau of Children and Families
also ensure facilities are licensed, and the children in those facilities are safe. The licensing unit is
housed within the Bureau of Children. The expectations within the licensing unit are to ensure the
youth housed in those facilities are safe and secure within federal and state regulations. Reviews are
conducted to ensure the children s needs are being met, and that staff has completed trainings,
background checks, and APS/CPS checks. This is done to ensure that the children in state s custody
are receiving care that meets their needs.
The Community Context of Practice: The licensing unit addresses facilities across the state of West
Virginia. Also, due to children being placed out of state, workers travel out of state to those
facilities to ensure they are in compliance with West Virginialaws. The one thing that congregant
care placements lack is addressing the individual needs of each child. Also, employees at the
facilities are often neglectful, and use forceful tactics to deal with children s behaviors. This is not
effective practice and diminishes the system s theory approach

  • 2. The 13th Amendment After the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and the ensuing American Civil War all states where forced to ratify the thirteenth amendment which abolished slavery within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. In 1870 the fifteenth amendment was passed making it unconstitutional to prohibit voters on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. While the thirteenth and fifteenth amendments made it constitution for African Americans to vote it did not prohibit states from implementing obstructions at voting booths such as poll taxes, literacy test, lineage tracking, and other qualifications. While Plessy v. Ferguson established the separate but equaldoctrine which is described as racially segregated but ostensibly ensuring equal opportunities to all races. The established doctrine of Separate but Equal was never enforced, and the cries of the neglected fell upon deaf ears until 1954, 58 years after a virtual caste system was established in the Nation of freedom and equal opportunity segregating everything from schools to bathrooms because of the color of your skin. After the Separate Car Act of 1890 passed in the State of Louisiana which required separate railway cars for blacks and whites a man of mixed race who was seven eighths of European decent and of one eighth African descent purchased a first class ticket, and upon taking his seat was once asked to move to the black only car, then was arrested for violating the separate car act, Plessy s side argued that the Seperate Car Act had violated his thirteenth and fourteenth amendment rights. Judge Ferguson found Plessy to be guilty, and the Louisiana Supreme Court upheld his decision with the intention that it was the rights of the state to regulate railroad companies within the state. ...The law regards man as man, and takes no account of his surroundings or of his color when his civil rights as guarantied by the supreme law of the land are involved. ― John Marshall Harlan the Great Dissenter Justice Harlan was the single dissenter that believed the Seperate but equal doctrine was unconstitutional and that the segregation of people because of their race was contradictory to the law. • 4. Revision of Master Narratives within Jane Eyre and Wide... To be able to discuss adequately how the master narratives of Bronte and Rhys time are revised, one must first understand what those master narratives were and what the social mood of the time was. From there one will be able to discuss how they were revised, and if in fact they were revised at all. Bronte is known as one of the first revolutionary and challenging authoress with her text Jane Eyre. The society of her time was male dominated, women were marginally cast aside and treated as trophies for their male counterparts. Their main role in life was to be a mother and a wife, Literature cannot be the business of a woman s life......the more she is engaged in her proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any sign of deviancy would be punished by the patriarchal system of that time, especially that of a deviant girl. As the patriarch was entirely male, the oppression of the female gender was swift and harsh. At Lowood Jane ultimately has to conform to the rules and regulations of the male domination to exist and live. Here she becomes a quiet...disciplined and subdued character. This time in Jane s life, brings up questions and queries into whether Bronte does in fact revise master narratives, which I will look at later on. Throughout the course of the text this female character pulls herself up from no social standing to somebody with a wealthy inheritance, eventually marrying the man she loves under her conditions, without having to compromise her beliefs or herself. Jane s relationship with Rochester is a key element of Bronte s revising the master narrative. She of course falls in love with Rochester whilst she is a member of his staff, she has no independence of her own, whether that be financial or otherwise. She ends up fleeing Thornfield, for despite her love of Rochester, she wants to be equal, and knows he ultimately wants to master her. A sign of what a typical Victorian marriage was like, in which the woman would submit to the man and obey his orders. Bronte dissects this notion, as Jane does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Later, in 1955, Salinger remarried the daughter of a high profile art critic Claire Douglas. Their marriage was far more successful than the previous, lasting a little over a decade and producing two children Margaret and Matthew. Claire filed for divorce in 1966 and claimed that if the marriage had continued further it would, seriously injure her health and endanger her reason. This implies that domestic violence and/or mental manipulations may have taken place. Douglas was not the only one to have implied this, Joyce Maynard describes Salinger as an obsessive lover after he kicked her out after only ten months of living together. Jerome moved on and was romantically involved with an actor, Ellen Joyce, then later married Colleen O Neill, to whom he would remain married to until his death in 2010. The Catcher in the Rye became one of the most influential and famous literary masterpieces of the twentieth century. Many readers had split views and opinions on the novel at that time. Some readers loved the novel and the ideas presented within it, while others thought Holden s quest to find something pure in a phony world was an immoral view. Wilfred Owen, a World War One poet, revealed the unsettling subject matter of war by using his own personal perspective to explore the harsh brutal reality of war. Through sensory imagery, he portrayed the severe everlasting conditions. Owen s treatment for shellshock at Craig Lockhart mental hospital influenced his writing and he was undergoing the treatment when his first poem was published. His poems continued to be published even after his death in November 1918, one week before the ceasefire. Owen presents the horrific subject matter through Strange meeting , The Next Warand Anthem for Doomed Youth . The shift in Owens tone explores his bitterness and shows that he begins to accept the looming fact of his own impending death. The mental implications of war on the soldiers challenged the way they functioned day to day. In the Next War Owen demonstrates the mental implications through personifying death and engaging the responder with sensory imagery. He s spat at us with bullets and he s coughed as a result an image is created, the responder sees that Owen s mental condition has him viewing everything as death. However, there is a correlation between the number of carbon chains in the alcohol to the contraction of the mixture. Methanol has had the most volume contraction, while having the least amount of carbons in the molecule (CH3OH) having an average of 1.206ml in volume contraction. Whereas Isobutanol, which has the highest amount of carbon chains (C4H9OH), has had the least amount of average volume contraction of 0.578ml. According to the (Solubility of Things, n.d.), as the amount of carbon atoms increases in the molecule, the alcohol has less solubility in water. This is due to how there are more carbon atoms repulsing the water molecule, therefore having less contact as well as hydrogen bonding with the HO chain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Water molecules contain a unique dipole property, having the hydrogen atoms being slightly more positive than the oxygen atom, which allows for the attraction between OH chains. Although an alcohol molecule contains an OH chain, carbon atoms repulse the water molecules while having a weaker dipole force leading to less volume contraction. Furthermore, due to any disturbances such as heat or kinetic energy as well as the repulsion from the carbon atoms they are constantly transitioning throughout the mixture. This is evident from the solubility of isobutanol and water. As there is a high amount of repulsion between water and alcohol molecules, the alcohol floats, although there is minute change in volume (refer to results). This separation between liquids decreases the amount of volume contraction, as they are more segregated as shown in graph 1. • 10. Mary Warren In The Crucible In the Crucible there are a group of girls that go into the woods. They dance, chant, and some of them even took there clothes off. They were caught by Reverend Parris. He wasn t sure on what to think of it so he left it alone until that morning his daughter Betty was in bed sick. Parris and some others began to investigate the girls, because they expected witchcraft. There are many people in this tale that I could talk about, but the one I have chosen is Mary Warren. The reason for this is because in my opinion she really helped bring the story to the conclusion that it did. Whether she meant to, or not. She also had a change of heart in the play, more than once. So now we shall indulge ourselves into the significance of this character and what role she truly plays. Mary Warren is a young girl, 18 years of age. She lived as a servant to John and Elizabeth Procter. She is one of the many girls that went into the woods to dance . After the girls were caught they tried to take the attention of of themselves and put it on others. This caused a big commotion, that in the end caused many people to lose their lives. The girls were saying that people are witches in order to save there own lives. Marry being one of these girls was not completely happy with what she was doing.... • 11. Dodd Frank Act Essay On July 21, 2010, President Obama signed the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which is commonly referred as the Dodd Frank Act. This act was passed as a response to the Great Recession in order to prevent potential financial debacle in the future. This regulation has a significant impact on American financial servicesindustry by placing major changes on the financial regulation and agencies since the Great Depression. This paper examines the history and impact of Dodd Frank Act on American financial services industry. The world s financial system was almost brought down in 2008 by the collapse of Lehman Brothers that was a major international investment bank at that time. The government sponsored these banks bailouts that were funded by tax money in order to restore the industry. Before the crisis, banks were lending irresponsible mortgages to subprime borrowers who had poor credit histories. These mortgages were purchased by banks and packaged into low risk securities known as collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). CDOs were divided into tranches by its default risk. The ratings of those risks were determined by rating agencies such as Moody s and Standard Poor s. However, those agencies were paid by banks and created an environment in which agencies were being generous to ratings since banks were their major clients. Also, in the pre crisis era, banks and other financial services firms including hedge funds and mutual funds were searching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eugenicists view the undesirable qualities in a population as aspects of humanity that can be improved upon and developed through the careful regulation of breeding within a society. If the breeding of specific traits were to be controlled, the best possible offspring would be produced. The desire to improve the humanraceis a theme also found in Nick Bostrom s Transhumanist Values and The Transhumanist FAQ. Transhumanists view the purpose of transhumanism as being the enhancement of the human race through highly regulated research/clinical trials and equal opportunity for all races and classes of people to have access to the technology being used. The careful control of technological advances and the focus on all classes and types of people leaves very little room for the ideology to be abused by those with any kind of racial biases. Both eugenics and transhumanism want to improve the human race in one way or another, but they vary in the execution of their ideals. Wuthering heights portrays the moors of England as very mystic and wild through its stormy weather. Since then, that same research has been furthered to prove itself on human test subjects. When we look at samples prepared in the conventional way, we have to make many assumptions about their properties based on their final state, but with the new technique, we can now observe these processes first hand, Prozorov explains. It can help us understand the dynamics of macromolecule aggregation, nanoparticle self assembly, and the effects of electric and magnetic fields on that process. This bears significant implications for biotechnological applications, especially in light of recent research regarding the use of magnetic heating to eradicate bacteria from surfaces within the human body. People get metal parts implanted all the time to compensate for injuries or very old body parts. These pieces range from metal plates to pins to artificial joints, but they all serve relatively similar purposes holding bones together. The problem that comes from this from time to time is that bacteria inside a patient s body eventually find these metal surfaces and seek refuge on or in them. Ordinarily, physicians recommend surgery to get rid of those bacteria, but new research suggests that surgery may no longer be necessary; rather, it may be possible to get the same result with the non invasive alternative of magnetic heating. These bacteria can be very difficult to remove because they form biofilms thin sheets that form a viscous, protective membrane of sorts like plaque on enamel. Even though this only happens to ... • 20. The Great Train Robbery And Edwin Porter In this essay I will be discussing five key points throughout Post Production history between the 1900s 1960s. Post Production is seen as a vital component in the cinematic industry as it essentially finalises the final products. Techniques that have been developed over the years are incredibly important, but they all have an origin. Although these techniques started out without overwhelming effect, they are now unbelievably crucial to how films are constructed. The five points I wish to discuss go as follows: The Great Train Robbery and Edwin Porter himself, D.W. Griffith and his overwhelming influence on editing, The Jazz Singer, the Kuleshov Effect and finally, 2001: A Space Odyssey. As well as discussing these key factors, this essay will take into consideration secondary material. In the early years of post production, there was a distinct lack of editing within the film industry. Everything filmed was for the most part one continuous shot and lacking too much creativity in the post production region. Edwin Porter was one of the key founders that changed the way post production was addressed. Although he originally filmed following what is referred to as Aristotelian construction (Musser, 1991, p167) he began paying closer attention to how a story could be told more effectively through visual representation. Edwin began straying away from Aristotelian construction and instead opted to use cutting to help him create the story he wished to create. Whilst this was not an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To increase turnover/sales revenue the company can do so through increasing its customers (find new customers to add to existing ones) or developing new products. For instance, Sunlight and Berendsen growth is attributed more to organic growth whereby they have been able to increase their customers in existing locations and new EU operational areas. Inorganic growth is growth generated through the company joining with other companies. Organic growth can be by mergers or takeovers. A merger is where two companies through an agreement join. They agree on how to conduct their operations, resource sharing among other aspects of their business. A takeover is whereby a company buys/owns 51% or more of the shares of another company (The Times 100, n.d). This gives it a right to majority voting power, it controls the management and financial decisions of the business. Inorganic growth can take place via horizontal integration or vertical integration. Under horizontal integration two companies or firms at the same stage of production or operating in the same line of business join as was in the Sunlight and Berendsen which both had specialty in providing textile services ... • 30. Fahrenheit 451 Personal Response Essay One of the phrases that I chose to include on the poster is, THE FOOLISH. I chose this phrase because that is how the general population is perceived in this book. They easily believe what is told to them and follow the orders of anyone, making them very gullible. Society, at this point, does not really have any individuality. They follow the group opinion and no longer come up with ideas of their own. So, THE FOOLISH is the main descriptor of society, or the antagonist, Another wordthat I chose to include is, REMEMBER. This word was chosen because it was the duty of the protagonist, Montag, to remember his part of the story. It was vital for him to do so because it was the only way that the bookswere going to survive throughout the war. Montag really struggled with this job because he could never really quite comprehend what was going on, until he absolutely needed it. In addition to that, I chose the word, DEPRESSION. This word was chosen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This phase was chosen because throughout the book Montag felt a kind of big brother presence watching him. An example of this is when the hound is sent to sniff around his house after they knew that he had books. Also, Beatty constantly knew about what Montag was doing, which made him very nervous and swayed some of his decisions. This was important because it affected how the reader viewed the society as a whole. MANIPULATION was also an important word added to my project. Manipulation was used very often throughout the story, especially with the character Beatty. Beatty often used long, drawn out sentences with a lot of references to confuse Montag and change his opinion on the situation. In fact, Beatty s entire role in the book was to manipulate Montag into believing the things that society did at that time. It had a huge impact on the plotline that was completely necessary for the story to turn out the way it did, which is why it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Seven years War he served as part of the British military and was the commander in chief of the British, American, and Highlander forces at the Battle of Quebec. His plan of attack up the Anse du Foulon to the Plains of Abraham was not only incredibly daring, but highly effective as it was this decisive move that allowed Wolfes army to capturethe city of Quebec. In previous courses that I have partaken in it had always been told that Captain James Wolfe was a mad man at the end of his wit, and that his attack at the Anse du Foulon was a last ditch effort for Wolfe to die with honor on the field of battle. Indeed James Wolfe had his share of problems. Before being able to rejoice in being promoted to captain of the 4th Foot, he was passed the grave news that his brother Edward, one year his inferior, had died from the inclement conditions at Flanders. However, Wolfe was one of the lucky people who understood death as part of war. Wolfe s main problem was the way that the military was handled by those in charge. Speaking on the refusal for his leave to Metz to study in artillery, he sent a private letter in which he described his unhappiness with their (his superiors) decision; They oppose the only method that can be fallen upon to preserve any knowledge of military affairs in the army. • 37. The Inventions Of The Cotton Gin During The Industrial... During the Industrial Revolution, many inventions were produced. In 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. Eli Whitney was a farm boy and was trying to make a name for himself as a manufacturer. About a few days later, he developed a machine to restructure the cotton industry. The pasteurization was created by Louis Pasteur in 1864. Louis Pasteur was a chemistry professor and was studying fermentation. He created this invention for beer because there was trouble with brewing and kept going bad while no one knew why. There is a big time difference between the year date they were both created. They both have been known for many years and are still being used to this day. These two inventions have made a huge impact throughout history and people s lives. Cottonhas been known for many years, but it was not used as much as compared to today. For many years, the only way to separate the cotton seeds from its fibers was to pull them out by hand. It was a very slow and hard occupation. The way the cotton gin worked was by; the cotton needs to fall through the feeder hopper, goes through a place where it comes into the wire teeth, which seizes the fibers for the seeds and comes out of the machine. Although the cotton gin was a very advantageous machine, it affected many slaves. It came with a number of unintended consequences, especially towards slavery. During this era, cotton was the most arduous plant since the seeds needed to be removed and that was a wearying process. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two hour rap based musical tells the story of America s founding father Alexander Hamilton from his immigration to New York to rise in power amongst the first presidential cabinet and ultimate death at the hands of a former ally. Gaining support from celebrities and President Obama only furthered the popularity of the musical that continues to boast being sold out over a year in advance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all, shouldn t the surge of new audience be able to fill up the empty seats in other shows? This is unfortunately not the case. As explained by several producers, sheer cost from popularity may be bringing down audience attendance. The top price is now $850, but the headlines trumpet scalper prices of $5,000 and up. And it appears that people want to see Hamilton so much, they re willing to pay those prices for seats months, even a year, in advance. What they re not willing to do is to spend big on Hamilton and see something else in the meantime (Riedel). This type of splurging behavior has left other shows in the dark and unable to fill seats forcing them to close. The most prominent example being Shuffle Along, which despite featuring one of the most well known actresses on Broadway, Audra McDonald, closed after only a few months (Playbill). The sweeping change is most noticeable to the majority of the public however, through the Annual Tony Awards. While the nominations have proven to be fairly spread across the board of shows, the sweeping wins of Hamilton have changed the way in which producers seek to advertise and attract ticket buyers. So why large budget productions have been able to afford the costs of added print materials, smaller less popular productions have resorted to more consumer based TV ads ... • 40. Redistricting In The United States Voters Voters should care about redistricting because it highly concerns them. The city that they are living in could become divided or family members could be in different districts. I believe that there is a problem with our current system on redistricting mainly because us people don t have a say in it. I think if we got to see what our state legislators were wanting to do in the future, then we would be able to have a say in it. One of the main negative effects of political redistricting is gerrymandering. Being able to just change the districts to keep or change the political power is unfair. They can do this to just be able to win the vote in the end. One positive aspect is all the voters are fairly representative, meaning they all feel like their vote will count (unless gerrymandering is happening). On Ballotpedia on Indiana, we have 9 representatives and 150 state legislators and the state legislators do the redistricting. One reform that is going around the United States is the Electoral system and wanting to change it. I personally do not believe in changing the Electoral College because it s something we have been using for over 200 years now, and it works. I also believe that the Electoral College is a fair way for electionsto happen and it highly relies on our votes. Ranked Choice Voting(RCV) is when voters rank the following election candidates in their favorable order and decide then who is their best pick. Winner take all is exactly what it means, the winner takes it all in the election. I do not think it is in the public interest for my state to use a commission or a board for redistricting because it comes down to what political party controls the board. For example, if you have a board of 10 people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Federal court strikes down Texas congressional districts. Conversely, the U.S. only lost a carrier, the USS Yorktown, a destroyer, the USS Hammann, and 145 aircraft. Unlike previous battles which were fought through traditional tactics, the Battle of Midwaywas fought with unconventional tactics that resulted in a turning point for United States Naval power worldwide. Through the development of new tactics, refined intelligence, the weakness of the Japanese plan, and Japanese over confidence the Battle of Midway was a turning point for U.S. sea power. The Battle of Midway was a turning point in the Pacific War not only because the U.S. was advanced in their new tactical capabilities, but also because they had crushed a tested and undefeated Japanese Navy that was projected to win. Abstract: Reaction of 3 Methyl 2 benzithiazolinone hydrazone (1) with some seleceted isocyanate and isothiocyanate reagents 2aв€’j gave the respective semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones 3aв€’j. Thermolysis of compound 3a under reduced pressure gave N,N`в€’dietylurea (4) in addition to 1,2 bis(3 methylbenzo[d]thiazol 2(3H) ylidene)hydrazine (5). Compound 3a was almost quantitatively recovered upon its exposure to sunlight in methanol for 60 days. Elementary and spectroscopic measurements (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS) are in good accord with the structures postulated for the new compounds. The single crystal X ray crystallographic analysis of 3f was given and its data were discussed. The synthesized compounds 3a j as well as the hydrazone 1 were screened for their antibacterial properties against Bacillus subtilis (G+), Escherichia coli (G ), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (G ) and Staphylococcus aureus (G+) and for their antifungal properties against Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans. Some of the tested compounds showed an activity against the four bacterial strains where their order of activity was found to be 1 3g 3j 3i 3e ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ames exposed a multitude of secret operations and intelligence officers to the Soviet Union over a period of nine years which caused at least ten deaths and led to his arrest in February 1994. CIA Chief Woolsey commissioned internal review processes to assess the damage, review security procedures, and inquire if Ames chain of command failed to follow agency expectations and regulations. The security measures review produced proposals to improve training and managementaccountability. Woolsey highlighted the need to change the culture of the CIA, one akin to a fraternity membership for life. Former CIA Director William ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Damnation of a Canyon Essay The Damnation of a Canyon Not many people know of the used to be 150 mile excursion that the Glen Canyon had to offer. Not many people know how to sail a raft down a river for a week. Not many people know how to interact with nature and the animals that come with it. We seem to come from a world that is dependent on time and consumed in money. Edward Abbey is what you would call an extreme environmentalist. He talks about how it was an environmental disaster to place a dam in which to create Lake Powell, a reservoir formed on the border of Utah and Arizona. He is one of the few that have actually seen the way Glen Canyon was before they changed it into a reservoir. Today, that lake is used by over a million people, and is one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He stated that it was the difference between life and death. Glen Canyon was alive. Lake Powell is a graveyard. He really seems to be going out on a limb in saying this extreme of a statement. I think that he is wrong in saying that. I feel that he is only looking at one side of the story. I would say the opposite, but for a rhetorical analysis proposes only, I will come from his point of view in researching that he came to that conclusion under the assumption that the wildlife and nature was more alive then the life outside of the dam. Lake Powell is a graveyard in such that there is nothing natural about it. The rocks are pretty and the water is blue. Abbey talks of a term called bathtub ring , it is left on the canyon walls, after each drawdown of the water level. The park rangers in Glen Canyon consider it to be not of great importance, and that is one of the only illusions that you look at upon a natural lake. To some people seeing that effect is more then they have seen or may ever see in their life when it comes to nature. People come from places where there isn t a lot of wildlife around them. The closest they get seeing that might just be from a book or a video they saw in school. So what if they dump a ton of striped bass and rainbow trout into the lake every year. One of those fishes could be the first one ever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Local-Color Regionalism in Tennessees Partner Essay The literary movement of local color regionalism in American literature is a very distinctive and interesting form of fiction writing that effectively combines regional characteristics, dialect, customs and humor. In Bret Harte s Tennessee s Partner, these characteristics helped the story jump off the page, allowing the reader to understand the times rather than just the characters. And, for that reason, I feel that this is an outstanding piece of work. One of the most distinguishable characteristics of local color regionalism writing is the usage of authentic dialect based on the story s setting. In Tennessee s Partner, Harteuses this tactic best when quoting the title character. For example, when Tennessee s Partner suddenly appears... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I call. LYNCH: Two bowers and an ace. TENNESSEE: That takes me. Another local color characteristic that Harte used in Tennessee s Partner was the development of characters based on their setting. The reader never feels like he knows much at all about any of the characters even Tennessee and his partner at all. In fact, neither does the narrator. But through the use of description, the two main characters become more stereotypes of miners in the Gold Rush era; they were typical rugged, gambling, scorched skinned, strong, simple womanizing men. This much is true with no one more than the title character, as his actions reveal more about the time s concept of death during his friend s execution and burial rather than going too deep into his own personal feelings about this particular death. Tennessee s Partner quickly compares his friend s burial to all the other drunken trips his shouldered with Tennessee in the past and seemingly moves on from the finality of the situation with ease. Lastly, Harte uses the setting as a major element of the story, almost turning the vast land of Tennessee s Partner into a character itself. The settings in most local color stories usually have an emphasis on nature and the land is usually remote and out of the way, and the setting of this story is no different. When reading the section of the story regarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When focusing on this aspect, there are obvious influences from African American hip hop to Asian hip hop. The fashion of the black people, so called street fashion presents the connotative bad image of black people, such as drag and violence. Therefore, it can be presumed that these fashion establishes the symbol of bad authority or manliness to Asian rapper. Therefore, in the most of the music video of Asian hip hop, the rappers wear caps, oversize t shirt, and gold accessories, like African American rappers do. On the other hand, the different way to describe their manhood can be seen in the music videos. The concept of masculinity in the original hip hop which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Organizational Context Of Practice Competency Thesis The Organizational Context of Practice: The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources is a government organization. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has different bureau s which addresses needs of the public. The Bureau of Children and Families serves populations from children, youth, and adults. The Bureau of Children and Families also ensure facilities are licensed, and the children in those facilities are safe. The licensing unit is housed within the Bureau of Children. The expectations within the licensing unit are to ensure the youth housed in those facilities are safe and secure within federal and state regulations. Reviews are conducted to ensure the children s needs are being met, and that staff has completed trainings, background checks, and APS/CPS checks. This is done to ensure that the children in state s custody are receiving care that meets their needs. The Community Context of Practice: The licensing unit addresses facilities across the state of West Virginia. Also, due to children being placed out of state, workers travel out of state to those facilities to ensure they are in compliance with West Virginialaws. The one thing that congregant care placements lack is addressing the individual needs of each child. Also, employees at the facilities are often neglectful, and use forceful tactics to deal with children s behaviors. This is not effective practice and diminishes the system s theory approach ...
