While man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self is all apparent in Anne Bishop s novel Vision in
Silver, man vs. self is most prominent through the struggle that Meg has with her addiction to the
euphoria of prophecy. Meg Corbyn is a cassandra sangue which means that she holds the power to see

The Debate Over Same Sex Marriage
Dissenting Rhetoric On June 26, 2015, same sex marriage was legalized across the united states, due
to a decision the Supreme Court made; the decision made all state level bans on same sex marriage
were considered unconstitutional, thus overruling the bans. In the dissenting argument on the Supreme
Court s Decision to legalize same sex couple marriage, Chief Justice Roberts makes a passionate
argument revolving around the fact that it was the Supreme Court that made the decision and not the
Country. Chief Justice Roberts shows his emotional look on the decision throughout the dissenting
argument. During the dissenting article his frustration and anger grows during the moments where his
personality was shown through. In the argument, Roberts stated, Many people will rejoice, and I
begrudge none their celebration. But for those who believe in a government of laws, not men, the
majority s approach is deeply disheartening (Roberts 2). Roberts is showing though his own emotional
outlook that he is not upset nor disappointed in the decision to allow same sex marriage, but
disappointed that the Supreme Court of nine people was allowed to make a decision for a country of
fifty states. His disappointment continues, Roberts ends the dissenting argument with a last thought,
Celebrate the availability of new benefits. But do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do
with it. I respectfully dissent (29). Roberts shows his anger at the decision, that the choice was

Good Times and The Jeffersons
Good Times and The Jefferson s are well known sitcoms that premiered in the 1970s focusing on
African American families living in poverty, while offering a comedic twist. The 1970s was in the
heart of the civil rights movement, and these shows were based on the lives of blacks during this time
(Deane, 2004). Both shows aired during the same timeframe, and it was evident that Good Times and
The Jefferson s aligned with the traditional stigma that society had of African Americans (there were
often offensive stereotypical aspects present, such as mammy and sambo characters). When assessing
character, Good Times cast starred Esther Rolles as the mother Florida Evans, John Amos as the father
James Evans, comedian Jimmie Walker who played the oldest son James Evans Jr. (JJ), Ralph Carter
who played the youngest son Michael Evans, and Anderson Bern Nadette Stanis as daughter Thelma
Evans (Deane, 2004). Florida was portrayed to be a hard working individual who just wanted to see
the best happen for her family. She had high hopes, as every mother does, of getting out of the ghetto
and living not the life of luxury, but one where they wouldn t have to face compromising their wants
and needs. James Evans was the primary breadwinner, and he aided Florida when necessary as the
disciplinarian. Their teamwork exemplified the true meaning of a two parent household. The children
James Evans Jr. (JJ) Michael Evans, and Thelma Evans, are your typical sibling trio. JJ was the

Code Switching History
The origin of code switching can be traced back to multiple scenarios. Around the 1860s slaves were
declared free in America. W.E.B Du Bois and Anna Julia Cooper were firm believers that who
embraced assimilation and saw higher education as the cure all to racialized problems. Du Bois, in
particular, is famous for his assertion that it would be the Talented Tenth of the race who would lead
blacks to a better life.
At this same time Native Americans were encountering problems. They were being pushed out of their
lands and in 1851 the federal government passed the the Indians Appropriation Act. In the late
nineteenth century the federal government passed the Dawes act in 1887. This act allowed for the
making of reservations. And a new policy

Homosexual Marriage and the Catholic Church Essay
Homosexual Marriage and the Catholic Church
Imagine you were born into a world where being straight was taboo. You were raised by same sex
parents, as all of your friends. Fornication of the opposite sex was merely to have children, but a
relationship between the two was virtually unheard of. It was believed that same sex parents provided
a better home for children. Love between a man and a man (or a woman and a woman) was believed
to be the perfect love because it was loving an equal. If one should love the opposite sex it was
believed that they secretly wanted to be that sex. Everything you have ever known and been taught
was based around same sex relationships. When you watch television every program along with every

The terminology generally used for male homosexuality is gay. In the same, homosexual women
generally prefer the term lesbian. Before one can understand homosexuality, the person must first
understand sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is one of the four components of sexuality and is
distinguished by an enduring emotional, romantic, sexual or affectionate attraction to individual of a
particular gender. The three other components of sexuality are biological sex, gender identity, and
social sex role. Three sexual orientations are commonly recognized. These being : homosexual;
attraction to one s own sex, heterosexual; attraction to the opposite sex, and bisexual; attraction to
both sexes (Clausen 25 27). The way a particular sexual orientation develops in an individual is not
well understood at this point. Various theories have proposed different sources, including genetic or
inborn hormonal factors and life experiences during early childhood. Many scientists share the view
that sexual orientation is shaped for most people at an early age through complex interactions of
biological, psychological and social factors. Sexual orientation emerges for most people in early
adolescence without any prior sexual experience. Psychologists do not consider sexual orientation for
most people to be a conscious choice that can be voluntarily changed. Some people report trying very

Personal Narrative-The Word Barbie Doll Procedure
At a young age, the word working was as common to me as the word barbie doll. I have been working
since I was in the fifth grade, the time I was barely learning how to add and subtract numbers. Every
day after school I was at my mom nail salon. My mom was the owner and I was helping out. Having
to experience working at a young age has allowed me to meet different people. As soon my mom
explained the procedure a customers came in. Hello, how may I help you today? I said as she signed in
her name. Yes, I would like to have a pedicure, said the women. I replied. Could you go pick out the
color you like? While she was picking out the color I would go and turn on the water and look on the
list of who turn to do the pedicure. It was Jennifer

Stop Sitting On The Toilet
Title: Why You Need to Stop Sitting On the Toilet: Reasons for Squatting On the Potty

Teaser: About four million Americans suffer from constipation are you one of them?
Article: The modern day toilet, while certainly convenient has one major flaw, it s built for sitting.
And while sitting to eliminate is considered civilized , there s another position that may improve how
you poop. And better elimination means less bloating, straining, hemorrhoids and constipation.
A little history behind sitting
What if I told you there was a more efficient way to poop? The bowel is the body s main elimination
organ, yet amongst many Americans today, this central elimination system is compromised by
something as simple as the position you choose to poop in. If you have less than three bowel
movements a week, then you may be one of the millions suffering from constipation. So, before
constipation gets the best of you, maybe it s time to go back to basics.
The first seated toilets ever built were used primarily for royalty and the disabled. However, after the
advent of indoor plumbing in the 1800s, the water closet was adapted with a porcelain throne to fit the
average home. That meant, common folk could now poop in a civilized manner just like the queen.
But prior to that, our ancestors were squatting

Why Does Plato Considers Ordinary Human Existence to...
WHY DOES PLATO COMPARE ORDINARY HUMAN EXISTENCE TO THAT OF CHAINED
PRISONERS IN A CAVE? Plato in his famous Allegory of Cave compared the ordinary human
existence to that of chained prisoners in a cave. According to Plato, we are all stuck in a false reality in
this world like prisoners in a cave. His cave theory still applies today in the sense that the people are
influenced and controlled by the world around them. They do not want to realize or seek the truth;
instead they wish to live in the comfort zone inside the cave. THE ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE:
PLATO, REPUBLIC. Plato assumed the existence of human life in a cave. In his view, human beings

Why we are living with shadows? Whether we are all ignorant? Or we are all lazy enough to find out
the reality? Or we are slaves of these shadows? Is everything we saw are lies, then what is the real
truth? Is knowledgeable realm, form of good is the last thing to be seen? According to Plato, the
shadows inside the cave are illusion . Buddha s first expression of enlightment was all is illusion .All
Buddhist practices aimed at disabusing a person of their illusions. Presently Buddhism teaches to
pierce through the two veils of illusion, which are conflicting emotions and false beliefs about reality.
Everything is illusion in this world. According to Advaita school of Vedanta, Brahman is the only
reality; the appearance of dualities and differences in this world is a superimposition on Brahman,
called Maya. Maya is the illusionary and creative aspect of Brahman. Advaita accepts Plato s view on
reality. Everything inside the cave is shadows and are false realities. These are temporary. Likewise
everything in this world is illusion and is temporary. According to Buddhism, reflection of yourself is
enlightment. Reflection means finding answers for Who am I? Why am I here? Where do I go after
death? What will I be? But Plato s view is that knowing reality is enlightment. Reality means form of
good. Mahayana Sutra says; The truth was never preached by the Buddha, seeing that

Discrimination in the Workplace
Why does discrimination occur at workplace? There are multiple explanation for the issue. It can be
ranged from generational differences, lack of diversity training, absence of good behavior modeling,
and many other reasons. In every workplace, it is consists of different cultural, religious, and social
backgrounds. There are different perspectives and conversations that take place at the workplace. An
individual s aspect on race, culture, sexual orientations, gender, and political views is disparate among
other people. When contrary perspective arises, it can easily result discrimination. According to the

The question will rise upon various perspectives from different individuals. Some individuals will
support the idea of class action with the female employees. While the other people will disagree on the

distressed issue. The class suit represents over 1.6 million women who currently work or that have

from the tears, as his uncle s bird flew from it s box. The room was covered by hot fire but it didn t

apart from Mama s heavy breathing. Dayron looked at his uncle and saw that a scary smile had

Problem Associated With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy ( Dmd )
One major problem associated with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the prevalence of
fibrosis that occurs in the skeletal muscles, heart, and lungs of these patients. In the heart and lungs,
fibrosis inhibits the body s ability to perform cardiopulmonary or respiratory function, respectively.
These conditions typically result in death if no emergency medical attention is given. Fibrosis can also
present as contractures in the skeletal muscle fibers, which will usually result in the loss of skeletal
muscular function and the need for surgery.
DMD is caused by a mutation in the X linked dystrophin gene, which results in a dysfunctional
dystrophin protein. Dystrophin is a cytoskeletal protein that provides mechanical stability to muscle
cells by connecting the muscle sarcolemma to the basal lamina of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and
without it there, the muscle cells typically undergo a process of degeneration and regeneration. This
process is limited by the survival of satellite cells present since satellite cells can only undergo mitosis
a limited amount of times. Sarcolemma instability typically results in excess intracellular amounts of
both sodium and calcium, which causes ATP depletion and mitochondrial uncoupling (Horn Schleip,
2012). Satellite cells only have a limited number times they can undergo mitosis, and once a patient
can no longer generate healthy muscle cells, the patient will typically experience cell death. This cell
death and necrosis usually

Key Features Of The Biological And Psychoanalytic Approach...
What are the core assumptions and key features of the biological and psychoanalytic perspectives in
psychology? In what ways are they similar and how do they differ? The biological approach focuses
on the physiological causes of behaviour based on genetics, brain physiology and biochemistry. This
approach also adopts the view that biology is adapted based on the environment an organism is in and
therefore most behaviours serve an evolutionary purpose. Research is gained through a nomothetic
approach that uses scientific methods. The psychoanalytical approach focuses on instincts, childhood
experiences and the unconscious mind as motivators for behaviour. An idiographic approach is
adopted from the case studies Freud used to develop his theory, however, Freud also attempted to
apply general laws of behaviour using a nomothetic approach. There are several similarities within the
two approaches: they both draw on nature and nature, are deterministic, materialistic and internal
approaches. Additionally, both have practical applications in modern life. However, some differences
between the two are that the biological approach accounts for external forces as well as internal whilst
psychodynamic does not. The psychodynamic approach places greater emphasis on unobservable
forces unlike the biological approach that primarily looks at observable structures although often in
animals rather than humans. The biological approach studies behaviour using a nomothetic method.

Essay The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
Methodological Introduction
This paper attempts to link the facet of queer theory that explains gender and sexuality as culturally
constructed identities, with the presence of the berdache in the New World at the time of the Spanish
conquest. By analyzing the construction of gender and sexuality among the native peoples, in contrast
to the ideologies of the Spanish, I found a clash arose which explained, in some sense, the
incompatibility of the two cultures. The differences between the two cultures gender construction
established support for the very un natural or in essential nature of gender, sexuality, and the body as a
means of self identity. By realizing the issue of power and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The clash of gender identity existing between these two cultures led to misrepresentations of the
natives by the Spaniards.
It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the terms which I will
be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of this paper will describe the sets of
culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and functions assigned to a particular sex. Sex, when used as
an adjective, will refer to the biological or chromosomal physical identity which separates males from
females. Sexuality, like gender, will be used to define individuals on the basis of their cultural/social
role within society, but not as an unchangeable feature of a person s identity. It is important to
distinguish the meaning of these terms because as they are commonly used, they are usually
considered synonyms in some way. By separating and elucidating their meanings, I hope to further
press the queer theorist argument that gender and identity within one s sexuality are deeply imbedded
in social influences.
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of a new and
mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards questioned whether they
were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest and colonization introduced

Black Plague Research Paper Topics
My topic is about the black plague. I choose this topic because I thought that it would be interesting to
learn about the most catastrophic disease to happen in Europe. The exchange of the black throughout
Europe was the greatest catastrophe ever because it killed 50 million people, more than any other bug
or virus, there were smaller breakouts, and family s abandoned each other.
I researched my topic by looking up facts about the black plague, such as how many people died, how
did the people during that time period deal with the black plague and what was the Black Death. I
chose the exhibit because I think that it would get more exciting than writing a paper.
My topic relates to this year s theme Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange because

differentiation was found to be enhanced by EGF and the injured microenvironment. In vivo, when

However, when the possibility of MSCs to enhance wound healing and neovascularization by trans
differentiation into endothelial cells or fusion in cutaneous wound in diabetic rats was investigated by
Javazon et al., (114). They concluded that MSCs improved wound healing through indirect
mechanisms, as MSCs were found in close proximity to CD31+ vessels, which may reflect a MSCs
induced, paracrine mediated proangiogenic local wound milieu which lead to enhanced
vascularization rather than through direct participation and incorporation into tissue. They labelled the
cells with GFP and the tissue wounds were labelled with antibodies to GFP and CD31 , they found
that no double labelled cells were identified in any of the wounds. So trans differentiation into GFP
positive mature endothelial cells was not observed. Also, cellular engraftment was restricted to the
dermis and wound bed. As GFP cells were not found within the epidermis or epidermal appendages,
MSCs were unlikely to contribute to the keratinocyte population. But they found that MSCs
significantly enhanced re epithelialization, granulation tissue formation, and neovascularization
compared with control wounds.

Temperature In The Middle Ages Essay
The topic is about whether temperatures were actually warmer in the Middle Ages than they are today.
If so, why? If no, why not? I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict our future.
The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little human
interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climate and the how s and why s.
However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current
predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval Warm
Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to the north
allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and France on a regular
basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. North America was in the grip of a grave drought. But

temperature conditions of certain regions, such as, South America, and other locations in the Southern
Hemisphere, were no different from those of today. It is often pointed out that the MWP was a
flourishing time in European history. This particular period saw the Vikings from the far North travel
and raid northern communities at will. To me, the exploration and colonization of the New World,
Iceland, and Greenland in relatively tiny vessels, manned only by oarsmen and sails is the foremost
factor in the telling of climate conditions. Those seas would not be traversal in this day and age. Also,
proof of warmer temperatures in northern Europe, can be found in records of wheat production and

The Development Of South Korea
Survival for the fittest has been the slogan that is used in describing this world. Modernization
theories, as well as growth theories, have become prominent. Dependency theory is what has seen
some countries develop especially the South Korea. As other countries grow, some continue to
become poor. On the other hand, many countries wonder why South Korea grew despite being the
center stage of the war. South Korea was faced with the division of territory, Japan s colonial
occupation, Korean War and U.S military force s occupation. Existence of the mentioned factors could
not promote development of any country. South Korea being a developing country, dedicated itself to
develop after the war, majorly through industrialization.
Park Chung Hee also contributed to the economic growth of South Korea by implementing unique
leadership strategies. South Korea s Human Development Index is at 15, and it is part of the

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have completely opposite views on this issue. Hillary Clinton
wants to keep the rules on the National Security Agency. In other words, she wants to continue to keep

the NSA wants to collect any phone data about any individual, they are allowed to under the consent

the Patriot Act. In opposing views, Donald Trump wants to change the agreement of what the NSA is

current limits on the NSA. As he has said, he supports reauthorizing the patriot act. The way he looks
to reduce the limits on the NSA is that the NSA would not have to go to the federal court in order to

it didn t make her fat (313). There is also a small amount of irony in the essay through the idea of a
taste testing going on, although it is not the pleasant experience of its connotation. The effect of this
hilarity creates a stronger contrast between the subject of the essay and comedic tone of the writer.
In using the different techniques of language, description and humor, the author effectively creates a
bond with the reader, while at the same time informing and entertaining. At the core of this essay,
Hodgman is looking at how we view not only our dog s processed and packaged food, but ours as
well. Implied in the text are the questions regarding how well we take care of our pets and ourselves. I
think that the largest unknown within the essay is the question of how she made it through the smell,
texture and appearance of all this dog food. This leaves us being reminded that if you re determined,
there will be a way to make it through the mock bone marrows and the Butcher s Blends and perhaps
find a little bit more in food, and in life, than oily nuggets and canned by products. (553)

Aperture Cameras Consistently Returned The Highest Net Income
Aperture Cameras consistently returned the highest net income (Fig.3), which provided the base for
strong earnings per share (EPS) and return on equity (REO). For example, Year 6 earnings per share
was $3.57 and increased in each subsequent year, ending Year 12 at $7.25. The improved EPS was
accomplished with providing consistent well thought out modifications to the business model and not
significant stock repurchase. The company did strategically make annual stock repurchases starting in
Year 8. Return on Equity (ROE) was maintained at a consistent weighted average of 23.7, representing
the average of ROE from a low of 21.0 to a high of 27.1. Management elected to operate the company
with sound business principals and avoid aggressive changes in the balance sheet and/or P L, which
could dramatically swing the ROE.
It was management s opinion what consistent reliable business practices would add a sense of security
to the company s operations, employees and shareholders. The financial consistency of the company
provided shareholders with comfort in their investment with the stock price at $43.92 in Year 6 and
steadily rising to $128.11 by Year 12. As previously noted, the financial results were accomplished by
providing consistent high net earnings on its operations each accounting year. The company did not
incur long term debt and operated its business without having to utilized its bank operating line of
credit (no interest cost), thus maintaining a healthy

I Was Born For The Woods
I was born in the woods. Technically speaking, I was born at West Side Hospital in Nashville,
Tennessee, but brought home and raised in the woods. Five years before I arrived, my parents
purchased nine acres of land in Tennessee and built a house that backed into four hundred acres of
land. It was heavily covered in trees and brush a place where all of God s handiwork was still in its
original state. They cleared away just enough land for a house and a small yard; the rest belonged to
the wild.
From the time I could walk, the outdoors called to me. When the sun was up, I was outside exploring,
chasing wild animals, and discovering the world around me. My mom wouldn t see me until it was
time for lunch. As soon as I finished eating, I resumed my adventures until the sun disappeared.
During those excursions, I always had my older sister to accompany me. Quite often, it was just the
two of us. We didn t have a lot of friends at that time. Our family did live far away from everyone at
school, and the other parents were uncomfortable with having their children running wild in our vast
playground. Sadly, at the age of seven, we moved away from this beautiful wooden heaven to this flat
and unfamiliar city of concrete. I was initial shocked at how hard it was to make friends. Not only did
I not know how to play with other children, my strong country accent made me somewhat of an
outcast among them. In addition, I was behind the other children in learning since the schools in

Fathers Should Not Be Treated
Fathers Should Not Be Treated the Same as Mothers in Deciding Family Court Cases Involving Child
Custody A major argument in contemporary debates on social issues is that mothers are often favored
in family court decisions. This favoritism is claimed to be particularly rampant on the issue of children
s custody, whereby many cases grant the custody to mothers. Here, the nurturing stereotype that
perceives a mother as a better nurturer is blamed for the cases outcome. A recent study on whether
fathers are actually discriminated against produced more controversy, as it argued that despite the fact
that less than half of the cases grant fathers some form of access to children, these cases can be
considered successful (Meyer). One would thus wonder whether there could be some factors studies
like this take into consideration to argue that the cases are nonetheless successful. Notwithstanding,
whether these factors are there or not, a keen look at the issues surrounding divorce cases show that it
would actually be unfair to treat mothers the same as fathers in family court decisions since mothers
are naturally or in default entitled more access to the children. Fathers are actually to blame for the
little or no access to children granted to them in family court decisions. This can be seen in the fact
that even before divorce is initiated or in normal family circumstances, most fathers spend way less
time with children compared to mothers. One study found that a married

Naturally, as human beings we have some racism and discrimination built into us. There have been
numerous problems concerning discrimination in the past. A few Canadians blame immigrants for
taking their jobs, therefore putting them out of work. One big issue dealing with racism in Canada
would be the whole affair concerning the town of Africville in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1896 1907.
This was around the time when the Canadian West was being settled. This was a huge case of
segregation between the black people from Africa and the white people from Canada originally.
During this time, the current Canadians in Halifax decided that they would send all the new black
immigrants to a small piece of land near a garbage dump. This land was not considered desirable to
the Canadians so they gave it to the black immigrants and called the little settlement Africville. These
black immigrants were treated awful. They were given poor living conditions along with no running
water. I cannot imagine how horrible it would feel to be secluded and disrespected in that way. Finally
50 years after this terrible act of racism, the city of Halifax apologized for the horrible act that they
had done. This apology was overdue but an apology of any sort is better than none. Another big case
of discrimination is the Indian Act of 1867. This act forced people to give up their traditional ways of
life and to assimilate Aboriginal peoples so they would adopt the European

include, better gas mileage, less dependance on foreign oil, reduced exhaust emissions, and saves

One of the main benefits of eco friendly cars is the improved gas mileage. Improved gas mileage not
only means not having to fill up as often, but it means that drivers can travel farther distances on a
single tank of fuel (gengreen.org, 2013).
Additionally, when eco friendly cars require much less fuel to power them across equal distances, this

Women Of The United States
One must reach far back in history in order to appreciate what two women are currently undertaking in
the political arena in the United States. Presently, two women are vying for their respective political
party s nomination to become President of the United States, however in the late nineteenth century
this would have never been thought possible. Women during this era had no self representation other
than their husbands and fathers. Several generations of women who supported the suffrage movement,
fought to change the Constitution of the United States. These revolutionary women of the United
States played a monumental role in making this a reality. As a result of these women s efforts, and
many more that followed, the 19th amendment to the Constitution was ratified on August 18, 1920,
allowing women the right to vote. This amendment marks one of the most pivotal points in American
politics. In order to set the stage for the importance of women s rights during this time in history, one
must first understand the circumstances under which women lived in nineteenth century America. In
the book, Lucy Stone, Speaking Out for Equality, author Andrea Moore Kerr tells of the day Lucy
Stone was born in Massachusetts, the year was 1818. It is now known that Lucy Stone would become
a champion for the rights of women and especially women s suffrage. Hannah Stone, Lucy s mother

The Contribution To The Rise Of Capitalism In Medieval Europe
Feudalism is a system of social order that was dominate in what was medieval Europe. With this
social order, it provoked authority over its inhabitants. Nobility was in direct control of land masses
from the crown. What was given back was the loyalty to serve the military when needed. Vassals were
tenants of nobles, and peasants were to live on the land. Give what they produce as taxes for military
protection. This act of social order was used from about 300 to 1400 AD. Capitalism, at this stage, was
just beginning to develop and become something meaningful to the continent. There was a lot wrong
with Feudalism at that time, just like everything has their pros and cons, but feudalism had collapsed
and made way to the concept of Capitalism. These are shown in many factors and the contributions to
the rise of Capitalism very. These factors which saw the decreased use of feudalism include external
forces that shaped medieval societies to change.
There were many factors that influenced the rise of Capitalism through what Feudalism consisted of.
There were many Internal wars that took place during this time. There were many rebellions that
clashed with the monarchy. Because of this, tension between groups were at an all time high. One of
the key moments of rebellious actions took place during the peasant Revolt which took place in the
14th Century. Peasant s were fighting against a Poll tax which they thought was wrong to do. Peasants

accidents are the Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima; the Three Mile Island incident in

event of a nuclear accident, the main concern is the release of radioactive material, most likely from a
nuclear core meltdown and a breach in the containment of nuclear substances. These concerns have
led to the utilization of procedures following an accident; evacuation from the area of the incident to
prevent contamination, taking shelter in ventilation closed areas to avoid radiation, disposal of
contaminated products as well as use of proper medical procedures.(3)

How Does Tacitus Describe The Culture Of The German
The Germania written by Tacitus served as an ethnography of Germans that lived in the lands beyond
Roman control. Tacitus goes through every aspect of culture and in some cases compares Germans to
Romans. He describes German culture as a whole in the first half of the reading, then moves on to
discuss each individual tribe and their customs. Tacitus defines race in very broad sense, drawn from
how he depicts Germans in contrast to Romans. We see that geography and culture play a large role,
although they differ slightly from tribe to tribe, many maintain similar customs. Through the
Germania, we see that Tacitus differentiates race on the basis of physical appearance, lifestyle, and
regard for women. One of the more obvious indications of racial difference, is seen through physical
characteristics. Tacitus praises in the fact that their bloodlines are so pure due to the fact they never
intermarried with outsiders, He goes on to say that the lack of immigrants to Germany may be due to
the fact that land there is undesirable to live on, and so immigration to Germany was ostensibly
unheard of. The physical features Tacitus accredits to Germans are: fierce blue eyes, red hair, and large
frames (4). Another aspect he finds uniform for Germans are their clothes, they ... Show more content

they tried putting handicaps on people to think they were equal and made it impossible for anyone to

everyone thought that they were all actually equal except harrison and he escaped jail and stood up to

handicaps to help make the world equal by taking away people s strength and intelligence to make

Persuasive Speech About Adoption
For those of you who don t know I am adopted. My adoption story may be a little different than other
adoption stories. Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future that would

which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoption in itself teaches you
a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more.
One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We went
and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down the front
steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my sister to get in, both
of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister attempted getting into the big
vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed like it was. We drove for what seemed
like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the door and hoped out onto the cold hard
cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen this place before. The people in the car and
my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they will be right behind us. So me and my sister made
our way up the steps and to a big front door. We looked and found a doorbell and chose to push it.
After just a little while the door opened and this younger couple looked down at us with huge smiles

  • 3. The Debate Over Same Sex Marriage Dissenting Rhetoric On June 26, 2015, same sex marriage was legalized across the united states, due to a decision the Supreme Court made; the decision made all state level bans on same sex marriage were considered unconstitutional, thus overruling the bans. In the dissenting argument on the Supreme Court s Decision to legalize same sex couple marriage, Chief Justice Roberts makes a passionate argument revolving around the fact that it was the Supreme Court that made the decision and not the Country. Chief Justice Roberts shows his emotional look on the decision throughout the dissenting argument. During the dissenting article his frustration and anger grows during the moments where his personality was shown through. In the argument, Roberts stated, Many people will rejoice, and I begrudge none their celebration. But for those who believe in a government of laws, not men, the majority s approach is deeply disheartening (Roberts 2). Roberts is showing though his own emotional outlook that he is not upset nor disappointed in the decision to allow same sex marriage, but disappointed that the Supreme Court of nine people was allowed to make a decision for a country of fifty states. His disappointment continues, Roberts ends the dissenting argument with a last thought, Celebrate the availability of new benefits. But do not celebrate the Constitution. It had nothing to do with it. I respectfully dissent (29). Roberts shows his anger at the decision, that the choice was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Good Times and The Jeffersons Good Times and The Jefferson s are well known sitcoms that premiered in the 1970s focusing on African American families living in poverty, while offering a comedic twist. The 1970s was in the heart of the civil rights movement, and these shows were based on the lives of blacks during this time (Deane, 2004). Both shows aired during the same timeframe, and it was evident that Good Times and The Jefferson s aligned with the traditional stigma that society had of African Americans (there were often offensive stereotypical aspects present, such as mammy and sambo characters). When assessing character, Good Times cast starred Esther Rolles as the mother Florida Evans, John Amos as the father James Evans, comedian Jimmie Walker who played the oldest son James Evans Jr. (JJ), Ralph Carter who played the youngest son Michael Evans, and Anderson Bern Nadette Stanis as daughter Thelma Evans (Deane, 2004). Florida was portrayed to be a hard working individual who just wanted to see the best happen for her family. She had high hopes, as every mother does, of getting out of the ghetto and living not the life of luxury, but one where they wouldn t have to face compromising their wants and needs. James Evans was the primary breadwinner, and he aided Florida when necessary as the disciplinarian. Their teamwork exemplified the true meaning of a two parent household. W.E.B Du Bois and Anna Julia Cooper were firm believers that who embraced assimilation and saw higher education as the cure all to racialized problems. Du Bois, in particular, is famous for his assertion that it would be the Talented Tenth of the race who would lead blacks to a better life. At this same time Native Americans were encountering problems. They were being pushed out of their lands and in 1851 the federal government passed the the Indians Appropriation Act. In the late nineteenth century the federal government passed the Dawes act in 1887. This act allowed for the making of reservations. And a new policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Homosexual Marriage and the Catholic Church Essay Homosexual Marriage and the Catholic Church Imagine you were born into a world where being straight was taboo. You were raised by same sex parents, as all of your friends. Fornication of the opposite sex was merely to have children, but a relationship between the two was virtually unheard of. It was believed that same sex parents provided a better home for children. Love between a man and a man (or a woman and a woman) was believed to be the perfect love because it was loving an equal. If one should love the opposite sex it was believed that they secretly wanted to be that sex. Everything you have ever known and been taught was based around same sex relationships. In the same, homosexual women generally prefer the term lesbian. Before one can understand homosexuality, the person must first understand sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is one of the four components of sexuality and is distinguished by an enduring emotional, romantic, sexual or affectionate attraction to individual of a particular gender. The three other components of sexuality are biological sex, gender identity, and social sex role. Three sexual orientations are commonly recognized. These being : homosexual; attraction to one s own sex, heterosexual; attraction to the opposite sex, and bisexual; attraction to both sexes (Clausen 25 27). The way a particular sexual orientation develops in an individual is not well understood at this point. Various theories have proposed different sources, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors and life experiences during early childhood. Many scientists share the view that sexual orientation is shaped for most people at an early age through complex interactions of biological, psychological and social factors. Sexual orientation emerges for most people in early adolescence without any prior sexual experience. Psychologists do not consider sexual orientation for most people to be a conscious choice that can be voluntarily changed. Some people report trying very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Article: The modern day toilet, while certainly convenient has one major flaw, it s built for sitting. And while sitting to eliminate is considered civilized , there s another position that may improve how you poop. And better elimination means less bloating, straining, hemorrhoids and constipation. A little history behind sitting What if I told you there was a more efficient way to poop? The bowel is the body s main elimination organ, yet amongst many Americans today, this central elimination system is compromised by something as simple as the position you choose to poop in. If you have less than three bowel movements a week, then you may be one of the millions suffering from constipation. So, before constipation gets the best of you, maybe it s time to go back to basics. The first seated toilets ever built were used primarily for royalty and the disabled. However, after the advent of indoor plumbing in the 1800s, the water closet was adapted with a porcelain throne to fit the average home. That meant, common folk could now poop in a civilized manner just like the queen. But prior to that, our ancestors were squatting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plato in his famous Allegory of Cave compared the ordinary human existence to that of chained prisoners in a cave. According to Plato, we are all stuck in a false reality in this world like prisoners in a cave. His cave theory still applies today in the sense that the people are influenced and controlled by the world around them. They do not want to realize or seek the truth; instead they wish to live in the comfort zone inside the cave. THE ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE: PLATO, REPUBLIC. Buddha s first expression of enlightment was all is illusion .All Buddhist practices aimed at disabusing a person of their illusions. Presently Buddhism teaches to pierce through the two veils of illusion, which are conflicting emotions and false beliefs about reality. Everything is illusion in this world. According to Advaita school of Vedanta, Brahman is the only reality; the appearance of dualities and differences in this world is a superimposition on Brahman, called Maya. Maya is the illusionary and creative aspect of Brahman. Advaita accepts Plato s view on reality. Everything inside the cave is shadows and are false realities. These are temporary. Likewise everything in this world is illusion and is temporary. According to Buddhism, reflection of yourself is enlightment. Reflection means finding answers for Who am I? Why am I here? The room was covered by hot fire but it didn t touch Dayron. Instead, it covered Mama and Dayron only got the heat of the fire. There was no sound, apart from Mama s heavy breathing. • 13. Problem Associated With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy ( Dmd ) One major problem associated with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the prevalence of fibrosis that occurs in the skeletal muscles, heart, and lungs of these patients. In the heart and lungs, fibrosis inhibits the body s ability to perform cardiopulmonary or respiratory function, respectively. These conditions typically result in death if no emergency medical attention is given. Fibrosis can also present as contractures in the skeletal muscle fibers, which will usually result in the loss of skeletal muscular function and the need for surgery. DMD is caused by a mutation in the X linked dystrophin gene, which results in a dysfunctional dystrophin protein. Dystrophin is a cytoskeletal protein that provides mechanical stability to muscle cells by connecting the muscle sarcolemma to the basal lamina of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and without it there, the muscle cells typically undergo a process of degeneration and regeneration. This process is limited by the survival of satellite cells present since satellite cells can only undergo mitosis a limited amount of times. Sarcolemma instability typically results in excess intracellular amounts of both sodium and calcium, which causes ATP depletion and mitochondrial uncoupling (Horn Schleip, 2012). Satellite cells only have a limited number times they can undergo mitosis, and once a patient can no longer generate healthy muscle cells, the patient will typically experience cell death. This cell death and necrosis usually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Key Features Of The Biological And Psychoanalytic Approach... What are the core assumptions and key features of the biological and psychoanalytic perspectives in psychology? In what ways are they similar and how do they differ? The biological approach focuses on the physiological causes of behaviour based on genetics, brain physiology and biochemistry. This approach also adopts the view that biology is adapted based on the environment an organism is in and therefore most behaviours serve an evolutionary purpose. Research is gained through a nomothetic approach that uses scientific methods. The psychoanalytical approach focuses on instincts, childhood experiences and the unconscious mind as motivators for behaviour. An idiographic approach is adopted from the case studies Freud used to develop his theory, however, Freud also attempted to apply general laws of behaviour using a nomothetic approach. There are several similarities within the two approaches: they both draw on nature and nature, are deterministic, materialistic and internal approaches. Additionally, both have practical applications in modern life. However, some differences between the two are that the biological approach accounts for external forces as well as internal whilst psychodynamic does not. The psychodynamic approach places greater emphasis on unobservable forces unlike the biological approach that primarily looks at observable structures although often in animals rather than humans. The biological approach studies behaviour using a nomothetic method. Of all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay The Berdache of Early American Conquest The Berdache of Early American Conquest Methodological Introduction This paper attempts to link the facet of queer theory that explains gender and sexuality as culturally constructed identities, with the presence of the berdache in the New World at the time of the Spanish conquest. By analyzing the construction of gender and sexuality among the native peoples, in contrast to the ideologies of the Spanish, I found a clash arose which explained, in some sense, the incompatibility of the two cultures. The differences between the two cultures gender construction established support for the very un natural or in essential nature of gender, sexuality, and the body as a means of self identity. By realizing the issue of power and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The clash of gender identity existing between these two cultures led to misrepresentations of the natives by the Spaniards. It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the terms which I will be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of this paper will describe the sets of culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and functions assigned to a particular sex. Sex, when used as an adjective, will refer to the biological or chromosomal physical identity which separates males from females. Sexuality, like gender, will be used to define individuals on the basis of their cultural/social role within society, but not as an unchangeable feature of a person s identity. It is important to distinguish the meaning of these terms because as they are commonly used, they are usually considered synonyms in some way. By separating and elucidating their meanings, I hope to further press the queer theorist argument that gender and identity within one s sexuality are deeply imbedded in social influences. The Berdache of Early American Conquest The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of a new and mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards questioned whether they were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest and colonization introduced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I researched my topic by looking up facts about the black plague, such as how many people died, how did the people during that time period deal with the black plague and what was the Black Death. They co cultured BrdU labeled MSCs with heat shocked confluent sweat gland cells SGCs, in vitro. They found that a subset of adult MSCs differentiated into SGCs. The percentage of differentiation was found to be enhanced by EGF and the injured microenvironment. In vivo, when they intravenously injected Labelled MSCs into full thickness skin wounds in rats, Labelled cells were noted in hair follicles, sebaceous glands, blood vessels and dermis in full thickness wounds and the incorporated cells in hair follicles and sebaceous glands were positive for pan cytokeratin. However, when the possibility of MSCs to enhance wound healing and neovascularization by trans differentiation into endothelial cells or fusion in cutaneous wound in diabetic rats was investigated by Javazon et al., (114). They concluded that MSCs improved wound healing through indirect mechanisms, as MSCs were found in close proximity to CD31+ vessels, which may reflect a MSCs induced, paracrine mediated proangiogenic local wound milieu which lead to enhanced vascularization rather than through direct participation and incorporation into tissue. They labelled the cells with GFP and the tissue wounds were labelled with antibodies to GFP and CD31 , they found that no double labelled cells were identified in any of the wounds. So trans differentiation into GFP positive mature endothelial cells was not observed. Also, cellular engraftment was restricted to the dermis and wound bed. As GFP cells were not found within the epidermis or epidermal appendages, MSCs were unlikely to contribute to the keratinocyte population. But they found that MSCs significantly enhanced re epithelialization, granulation tissue formation, and neovascularization compared with control wounds. • 19. Temperature In The Middle Ages Essay The topic is about whether temperatures were actually warmer in the Middle Ages than they are today. If so, why? If no, why not? I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict our future. The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little human interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climate and the how s and why s. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. North America was in the grip of a grave drought. But just how warm was the Medieval Warm Period? To answer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other studies retain evidence that the temperature conditions of certain regions, such as, South America, and other locations in the Southern Hemisphere, were no different from those of today. It is often pointed out that the MWP was a flourishing time in European history. This particular period saw the Vikings from the far North travel and raid northern communities at will. To me, the exploration and colonization of the New World, Iceland, and Greenland in relatively tiny vessels, manned only by oarsmen and sails is the foremost factor in the telling of climate conditions. Those seas would not be traversal in this day and age. The improved EPS was accomplished with providing consistent well thought out modifications to the business model and not significant stock repurchase. Five years before I arrived, my parents purchased nine acres of land in Tennessee and built a house that backed into four hundred acres of land. It was heavily covered in trees and brush a place where all of God s handiwork was still in its original state. They cleared away just enough land for a house and a small yard; the rest belonged to the wild. From the time I could walk, the outdoors called to me. When the sun was up, I was outside exploring, chasing wild animals, and discovering the world around me. My mom wouldn t see me until it was time for lunch. As soon as I finished eating, I resumed my adventures until the sun disappeared. During those excursions, I always had my older sister to accompany me. Quite often, it was just the two of us. We didn t have a lot of friends at that time. Our family did live far away from everyone at school, and the other parents were uncomfortable with having their children running wild in our vast playground. Sadly, at the age of seven, we moved away from this beautiful wooden heaven to this flat and unfamiliar city of concrete. I was initial shocked at how hard it was to make friends. • 26. Fathers Should Not Be Treated Fathers Should Not Be Treated the Same as Mothers in Deciding Family Court Cases Involving Child Custody A major argument in contemporary debates on social issues is that mothers are often favored in family court decisions. This favoritism is claimed to be particularly rampant on the issue of children s custody, whereby many cases grant the custody to mothers. Here, the nurturing stereotype that perceives a mother as a better nurturer is blamed for the cases outcome. A recent study on whether fathers are actually discriminated against produced more controversy, as it argued that despite the fact that less than half of the cases grant fathers some form of access to children, these cases can be considered successful (Meyer). One would thus wonder whether there could be some factors studies like this take into consideration to argue that the cases are nonetheless successful. Notwithstanding, whether these factors are there or not, a keen look at the issues surrounding divorce cases show that it would actually be unfair to treat mothers the same as fathers in family court decisions since mothers are naturally or in default entitled more access to the children. Fathers are actually to blame for the little or no access to children granted to them in family court decisions. This can be seen in the fact that even before divorce is initiated or in normal family circumstances, most fathers spend way less time with children compared to mothers. A few Canadians blame immigrants for taking their jobs, therefore putting them out of work. One big issue dealing with racism in Canada would be the whole affair concerning the town of Africville in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1896 1907. This was around the time when the Canadian West was being settled. This was a huge case of segregation between the black people from Africa and the white people from Canada originally. During this time, the current Canadians in Halifax decided that they would send all the new black immigrants to a small piece of land near a garbage dump. This land was not considered desirable to the Canadians so they gave it to the black immigrants and called the little settlement Africville. These black immigrants were treated awful. They were given poor living conditions along with no running water. I cannot imagine how horrible it would feel to be secluded and disrespected in that way. Tacitus goes through every aspect of culture and in some cases compares Germans to Romans. He describes German culture as a whole in the first half of the reading, then moves on to discuss each individual tribe and their customs. Tacitus defines race in very broad sense, drawn from how he depicts Germans in contrast to Romans. We see that geography and culture play a large role, although they differ slightly from tribe to tribe, many maintain similar customs. Through the Germania, we see that Tacitus differentiates race on the basis of physical appearance, lifestyle, and regard for women. One of the more obvious indications of racial difference, is seen through physical characteristics. These children were taken to missions and reserves, where they spent their childhood in foster care without contact with their family. Having was unequal so it was not allowed because of how the government controlled the world. Second of all, by trying to create government control they tried putting handicaps on people to think they were equal and made it impossible for anyone to do anything without the risk of going to jail or being killed, because that would be unequal and everyone thought that they were all actually equal except harrison and he escaped jail and stood up to the government and ripped off his handicaps and the government shot him to create government control because he broke the law. • 43. Persuasive Speech About Adoption For those of you who don t know I am adopted. My adoption story may be a little different than other adoption stories. Things had happened at that point or were going to happen in the future that would change me. I was adopted at age 4 and my sister was about 1 at the time. My adoption stayed open which means if I wanted I could still have contact with my birth family. Adoption in itself teaches you a lot, but sometimes the different things that happen can teach you more. One day my mom came and found me and my sister and told us we had to go somewhere. We went and found our shoes and started heading out the door. My sister and I started hoping down the front steps just about running into a vehicle parked out front. My mom told me and my sister to get in, both of us were kind of scared but we did it anyways. So me and my sister attempted getting into the big vehicle, well it may not have been that big, but to us it seemed like it was. We drove for what seemed like hours till all of a sudden the car stopped. I opened the door and hoped out onto the cold hard cement. I didn t know where we were at, I had never seen this place before. The people in the car and my mom told us to go up to the front steps and they will be right behind us. So me and my sister made our way up the steps and to a big front door. We looked and found a doorbell and chose to push it. After just a little while the door opened and this younger couple looked down at us with huge smiles on their faces. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
