EAR
 Human ear is a sense organ of hearing and equilibrium , that detects and
analyses sound by transduction (the conversion of sound waves into
electrochemical impulse) and maintaining the sense of
balance(equilibrium).
PARTS OF EAR
 Human ear is divided into three parts that is:-
1. External ear
2. Middle ear
3. Inner ear
PARTS OF EAR
1. External ear:-It is consist of pinna and external auditory meatus.
2. Middle ear-
 Tympanic membrane (ear drum) or tympanum:-It is consists of skin(outside), connetive tissue (middle), and
mucous membrane (inner side).
 Eustachian tube:-It is also called pharyngotympanic tube. Its helps to equalization of pressure on two side of
tympanic membrane.
Ear ossicles :-It is also known as auditory ossicle
Maleus (Hammer)
Incus(Anvil)
Stapes(Stirrup)
Windows:-Oval windows
Rounded windows
Parts of human ear:-
3. INNER EAR:-
 Vestibular apparatus:-It helps to equilibrium of the
body.
-It is consists of -
Otolith organ
Semicircular canal
Semicircular duct
 Cochlea:-It is consists of two membranes that is-
Reissner’s
Basilar
Cochlea:-
 There are tree cavity that is –
- Scala vestibuli
- Scala media
-Scala tympani
 Fluid present inside the Cochlea:-
-Perilymph:-present in the scalatympani and scala
vestibuli
-Endolymph:-present within scala media
Organ corti :-
 It is present above scala tympani or on the top of the basilar membrane
in the scala media.
 It is peripheral receptors of sense of hearing.
 Important components of organ of corti:-
-Rods of corti
-Hair cell
-Supporting cells
-Tectorial membraine
Nerve supply
of Ear cells:-
 Cochlear division of 8
cranial nerve.
