The Benefits of Building a Green House on Western s La...
Presenting the benefits of building a green house facility on Western s La Crosse campus. First
student benefits will be explored ,second the campus s benefits, and third the environmental
benefits will be discussed. Images of the recommended design and a map outlining the proposed
location are presented, and the estimated costs of the proposed kit are included as well. This project
will have a positive impact including supporting Western s efforts toward meeting the needs of the
present without compromising the needs of future generations or in other words being sustainable

This project will also enhance our competitive advantage against other campuses that are going
green. In addition a green house would expand our growing season being able to grow some of
our own produce will give us access to fresh, nutritious, and seasonal produce, as well as plants
and flowers during the cold winter months. A study from a top market research company called
Heartman Group shows that over Two thirds of all consumers favor locally grown foods and
almost 75 percent expressed the desire for wider selection of these products to be more readily
available. http://green.nau.edu/docs/Sodexo_Sustainability_Brochure.pdf What is grown could be
incorporated into cafeteria, Lunda center, and Western Corner Bistro menu items, used in food
labs, and sold at fundraisers. By growing some of our own vegetables and herbs we are able to
reduce the distance our food travels to get to our plate. Rich Pirog of the Leopold Center for
Sustainable Agriculture reports that the average fresh food item on our dinner table travels 1,500
miles to get there. Buying locally produced food eliminates the need for all that fuel guzzling

James Baldwin s View On Religion
Works of all genres contains religious references and allusions, many of which criticize or
critique certain religious practices, and James Baldwin, an author in the 1950s, served as a major
contributor to this group of works. He wrote several books, plays, and essays that served as major
pieces of religious commentary during the 1950s. His writing explored topics that criticized strict
religion, opening up a new outlook on relationships with God. Baldwin experienced many facets of
religion in his life, creating autobiographical tendencies in his writing that filled his works with his
own opinions about religion. James Baldwin s religious experiences, some harsh and some
pleasant, explain the apparent and diverse descriptions of varied... Show more content on

The autobiographical nature of Baldwin s writings, coupled with the common appearance of
Christian ideas in his stories, suggests that he led a largely Christian life. Stanley later validates
this notion in saying that Baldwin himself worked as a teenage preacher (Stanley). Confirming
his Christian childhood, Baldwin s status as a preacher strengthens the importance of religion in
his life. Lloyd states that Baldwin s father often recited Joshua 24:25, saying as for me and my
house, we will serve the Lord (Lloyd 5). Lloyd furthers the idea that Baldwin s early life
contained a strong Christian presence, as this Bible quote highlights the prominence of religion
in Baldwin s life. In addition to Baldwin s status as a teenage preacher, his residence in a house
dedicated to serving God explains the religious presence in his works and confirms the idea that
he often discussed important concepts of his life in his writing. Baldwin s Go Tell It on the
Mountain begins with [he] would be a preacher when he grew up, just like his father. This shows
not only the religious nature of Baldwin s writing but also provides evidence of his
autobiographical tendencies. The main character s status as a preacher reveals that Baldwin wrote
characters possessing very similar qualities to his own and that his works contained a strong
religious presence. Baldwin s religious lifestyle serves as a gateway for the establishment of strong

The Gps Technology
THE GPS TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION Throughout time people have developed a variety
of ways to figure out their position on earth and to navigate from one place to another. Early
mariners relied on angular measurements to celestial bodies like sun and stars to calculate their
location. The 1920s witnessed the introduction of more advanced technique radio navigation
based at first on radios that allowed navigators to locate the direction of shore based transmitters
when in range. Later development of artificial satellites made possible the transmission of more
precise, line of sight radio navigation signals and sparked a new era in navigation technology.
Satellites are first used in position finding in a simple but reliable 2D Navy... Show more content on

The satellite signals are further processed by data processor of the navigation set to demodulate
the data and then decode it to get the user s 3D position coordinates. The GPS receivers are used
for navigation, positioning, aviation, shipping, geology and other purposes. WORKING
Consider the case of a lightning followed by a thunder. A few seconds after seeing the lightning
we hear the thunder. If we know the time taken for the sound waves to travel from the lightning
place to the listener, we can calculate the distance between the listener and the lightning place.
Similar principle is used in the working of GPS. The GPS system works by determining how long
it takes a radio signal transmitted from a satellite to reach a land based receiver and then, using
that time to calculate the distance between the satellite and the Earth station receiver. Radio waves
travel at approximately the speed of light, 3x108 m/s. if a receiver can determine exactly when a
satellite began sending a radio signal and exactly when the signal was received, then it can
determine the propagation time. From propagation time, the receiver can determine the distance
between it and the satellite using the mathematical relationship d = v Г— t Where d =

Grandmother Symbolism
It is truthfully effortless comparing two well written stories when the elements of fiction are
attentively assembled. Due to the limited amount of fictional elements, there is not many to choose
from. The writings of A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O Connor, and Hills like White
Elephants, by Ernest Hemingway, display the presence of mutual elements. The uniqueness of both
stories is what predominantly stands out. Both authors present their anecdotes with parallel
approaches, but provide multiple dissimilarities in doing so.
The grandmothers role in A Good Man is Hard to Find, is defined by selfishness, greed and
egocentric opinions. Throughout the story, it is clearly pointed out that the grandmother will by
any means necessary strive to persuade her son, Bailey, to fulfill her desires. From the very
beginning, the grandmother affirms that she does not want to go to Florida. She then goes out of
her way by pointing out that there is a man a loose in Florida. I wouldn t take my children in any

It is also a term used as a form of symbolism by Earnest Hemmingway in his short story Hills like
White Elephants. As an author, one must acknowledge that symbolism is a principal element of
fiction, and in this story the term white elephants is used to describe something that is not wanted.
Jig, the protagonist of this story indicates that the hills look like white elephants. By saying so, she
is envisioning the hills in correspondence to her unborn baby. However, both characters are not
under the same terminology. She then steadily debates the abortion and mentions that the hills
They don t really look like white elephants (592). Therefore, giving The American a hint of her
wanting to keep the baby. An ongoing fight of wills is taking place throughout the entire story.

Trail: Pasadena For those who like a well known family hike, head just north of Pasadena to the
Eaton Canyon Trail. This 3.5 mile (5.6 km) moderate intensity trail is fairly close to civilization,
making it a more popular trail. Hikers can enjoy beautiful views of the city Altadena below, as
well as hike to Eaton Canyon Falls. Be prepared to cross small streams and maneuver around
boulders! There is also a Nature Center near the trailhead for everyone to enjoy. The most
crowded times are on the weekends, when it might be difficult to find parking. Try and hike on
a weekday if crowds are not really your thing. 2. Black Star Canyon Trail: Silverado For a trail with
less traffic, head to Black Star Canyon, located northwest of Silverado. This 15.6 mile (25 km)
trail is rated as moderate, with plenty of rocks to climb over and a waterfall to see as you make
your way along the path. Interested in ghosts and general spookiness? Black Star Canyon is

The Know Nothings gained support from blue collar American workers, who were fearful of
losing their job to Irishmen, which was a justified belief at the time. Lewis Levin, the first known
leader of the Know Nothings, believed that the Irish would follow the Catholic Pope without
question, which would provide the pope the resources to take over the United States. The Know
Nothing spread their message of fear, through the spreading of rumors and lies about Irish workers,
as noted by Bruce Levine in his paper Conservatism, nativism, and slavery: Thomas R. Whitney and
the origins of the know Nothing Party which states Their critics branded the Irish as lazy, thieving
drunkards, poor material for either a labor force or a citizenry. And the Catholic Church, nativists
added, aggravated the problem by promoting ignorance and low superstition and offering
comforting, exculpatory rituals (notably confession and absolution) that only encouraged the
dissolute, undisciplined behavior of the canaille. The Know Nothing party, worked to ensure that
the common man would share their view of the Irish as a common drunk, who should never have
brought into the country. The know nothing party broke up, after their defeat in the 1860 elections,
where they failed to get any of their members into an elected

Evidence Of The Big Bang Cosmology
The second evidence of the Big Bang is the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which is the
electromagnetic radiation left over from the time of recombination in Big Bang cosmology. It
represents the first light that travelled in the universe, at the time when the first atoms were formed
and the universe was transparent. The scientists Alpher and Hermann deduced that before the
recombination epoch, everything was plasma and the light rays would be continually scattered by
the particles they encountered (protons, neutrons, electrons), because many particles were charged.
During the recombination period, (around 300,000 years after the Big Bang, time taken from the
universe to cool down to 3,000 degrees Kelvin), the universe had cooled sufficiently ... Show more

COBE s measurements also provided another key of evidence of the Big Bang: the CMB has a
near perfect black body spectrum. an object with a constant temperature that absorbs all radiation
that hits it
A blackbody spectrum is produced by an isothermal, opaque and non reflecting object. Because of
the universality of the blackbody spectrum, it is possible to convert any spectral measurement into
a brightness temperature at the measured wavelength. The unique character of a blackbody
spectrum is that the brightness temperature of a blackbody is the same at all wavelengths (this is
why every wavelength in the CMB is 1 mm).
Furthermore, in order to make a blackbody spectrum, an object has to be opaque, non reflective
and isothermal. Thus a star, which is opaque, does not produce it because it has cooler outer layers
and hotter deeper layers. Thus the universe should have been a dark (since photons weren t free to
escape), non reflecting and isothermal plasma. (10)
Even though the temperature of the universe changes as it evolves, it looks isothermal because the
redshifting of radiation makes the universe appear to have exactly the same temperature as

Charles Boblit Case Summary
Facts: John Brady (petitioner) and Charles Boblit were found guilty of first degree murder and
sentenced to death. Convictions were affirmed by the Court of Appeals in Maryland. Their trials
were processed separately. At Brady s trial, he took stand and maintained that he participated in the
preceding robbery, but not in the killing. At the sentencing, both men received the death penalty.
Brady s counsel conceded that Brady was guilty of murder in the first degree, and asking the juryto
return that verdict without capital punishment. Prior to the trial counsel requested to examine
Boblit s extra judicial statements. Several statements were shown to Petitioner s counsel; but the

Petitioner s appeal from a denial of that motion was dismissed by the Court of Appeals without
any prejudice to relief under the Maryland. The petition for post conviction relief was dismissed
by the trial court; and on appeal the Court of appeals held that suppression of the evidence by the
prosecution denied petitioner due process of law and remanded the case for a retrial of the
question of punishment, not the question of guilt. Ruling: The Supreme Court held that
withholding evidence violated the process where the evidence is crucial either to guilt or to
punishment. The court also determined that under Maryland state law the withheld evidence could
not have exculpated the defendant, but was material to the level of punishment he would be
given. Relevance: Police officers who becomes dishonest are sometimes referred to as Brady cops

Criticism Of Brave New World
84 years ago, Aldous Huxley wrote a dystopian fictional novel called Brave new world.
The dystopian society of the brave new world is based on three principles; Community,
Identity, and Stability. In this world, everything is idyllic both socially and economically.
In fact, even human belonging to this society are produced artificially and consumed
according to economic necessities. Misery and suffering are defunct in this world.
However, the novel discusses that perfect world is a destruction of nature. Today, after
84 years, we could analogies to what extent Huxley s dystopia resembles our society, in
social and economic terms. Through that analysis, possibly introduce a solution to
prevent our world from becoming a brave new world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Materialism is increasing and we seek pleasure through
accomplishing our materialistic needs, for example, people squander useful technology
just because a new version of it has came out. Today game consoles, which are an
expensive gadget, have replaced sports. Likewise in the brave new world they used
complex machines in games to increase consumption.
Decidedly this world is heading toward extreme materialism. As people of the world
state have been conditioned to consume more likewise, we are conditioned through
economic strategies such as planned obsolescence and perceived obsolescence. Planned
obsolescence mean things are designed for dumb. Perceived obsolescence is a strategy,
which encourages us to squander useful things and buy new ones. We have a
materialistic mindset, thus, this clarifies that our economic trends resembles the
economic trends of the brave new world.
In the brave new world Family, siblings, cousins and friends are considered disgusting.
Chapter 7 8 talks about the plan made by Bernard who wishes to embarrass the
Director by exposing him as John s father, thus, this illustrates that it is considered
shameful to be a parent. Moreover, in the brave new it is shameful to be with one

Analysing the Israel Palestine Conflict in International Relations Perspective
Introduction to International Relations
Analysing the Israel Palestine Conflict in International Relations Perspective
Background
Since the early 20th Century, Israelis and Palestinians have been fighting over the land between the
Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. With the assumption that Palestine is a state to facilitate
discussion, this report sketches out the most significant elements of the conflict on the three levels
defined by Kenneth Waltz, and applies the Realist theory of international relations (IR) to the Two
State solution.
Levels of analysis
1. First Level
The first level focuses on individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, divergent values among parties could result in unstable governments. Such instability has
been particularly highlighted by frequent national elections and coalition reconstruction in Israel.
The PA resembles a classic authoritarian regime under the reign of Mahmoud Abbas even though it
is supposed to be democratic. The PA government remains relatively stable under this structure.
However, militant groups like Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad could be a credible external threat
to the established governance of the PA. Since 2003, conflicts between the two major factions, the
traditional dominant party, Fatah, and its subsequent electoral rival, Hamas, have fractured the
Palestinian side. After the Hamas took power in the Gaza Strip in June 2007, the territory controlled
by the PA was split between Fatah in the West Bank
, and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. [1] The
estrangement between the parties has led to the fall of bipartisan governance of the PA [2].
3. Third Level
The third level is the international level which can be broken down into sub groups such as relevant
third party states, transnational actors, international organizations, and the relations between states.
The Quartet on the Middle East represented by a special envoy formed by the United States, Russia,
and the United Nations is an international contingent mediating the official negotiations. The

The Supply And Demand For Metals Found At The Ocelot Mine
The supply and demand for metals found at the Ocelot Mine will vary by commodity although
the demand for all three is increasing. Zinc, in particular, shows the most potential for increase,
as many of the world s main producers are closing between the years 2015 and 2020 [16]. It is
believed that this will result in a gap between supply and demand. Already the demand is
outweighing the supply, and as such, zinc prices have increased dramatically. Silver and lead
also show growth potential, largely due to high demand from developing nations and the
increase in the industrial sectors of these countries. Being an operator in Peru also requires
understanding what countries are buying Peru s exports. China received 16.65% of the total
value of Peru s exports in 2012 [22]. As such, the continued growth of Peru s economy is largely
dependent on the wellbeing of China s economy. A slowdown in their economy would reduce the
ability of producers to export their products. An example of this can be seen in the financial crash
of 2008 to 2009, which had a devastating impact on the production of galvanized steel sheets. The
global production decreased by 40% during this crisis, as depicted in Figure 8.10. Since then the
market has recovered approximately 65%, primarily due to the growth in Chinese steel production
[17]. This highlights the sensitivity of the zinc market to the wellbeing of the Chinese economy.

Underage Drinking Persuasive Speech
If you were ever given the chance to drink underage, or even do illegal drugs, would you take the
chance? Would you partake in underage drinking at a party and do illegal drugs despite the
consequences that would follow? As many of us know, alcohol and drug usage is prevalent
among teens, especially in students among Mason City High School. When interviewing
Officer Trask, who has worked for the Mason City Police Department for thirteen years, it is safe
to say that one must be willing to sacrifice one s freedom if they decide to partake in such
activities. If you are under the age of 21 for drinking, you are considered a juvenile under law for
alcohol consumption. For a Juvenile, your BAC, which stands for blood alcohol consumption,
cannot surpass the limit of 0.02. However if you are the age of 21, then the BAC of 0.08 would

Child Vaccines For Children
INFANT AND CHILD VACCINES
When you are a parent, you can do anything to protect your child and keep them safe and healthy.
Vaccines is the vital way to do that. For neonates, mother s breast milk can help protect against
many diseases. It contains antibodies passed from the mother. However, this immunity wears off
within a year, and many children aren t breastfed to begin with. In both cases, vaccines can help
protect babies and small children from disease. They can also help prevent the spread of disease to
older children and adults. Vaccines emulate infection of a certain disease in your body. This boosts
up your immune system to develop weapons called antibodies. These antibodies fight against the
disease that the vaccine is meant to prevent.

Effect of an Increasing Substrate Concentration on Enzyme Activity Rate
Abstract
The reaction rate of an enzyme can be affected by many factors, and the purpose of this experiment
was to find out how an increasing substrate concentration influences the rate of an enzyme activity;
we obtained data from recording the absorbance of the samples which contain the same amount of
potato juice (enzyme oxidase) and different amount of catechol (substrate) while holding pH and
temperature constant. Our findings illustrate that the rate of enzyme activity is only influenced by
substrate concentration at low level of substrate concentration, and as substrate ... Show more

By looking at figure 1, we noticed that at higher initial substrate concentration, the absorbance
increased at a faster speed (for example, in figure 1, the slope of test tube 3 is greater than the
slopes of test tubes 1 and 2 in the first four minutes); and as time proceeded, the slope of each trial
decreased once passed a certain point and became a constant (slope=0) and eventually moved
toward a negative value (except for test tube 1).
Discussion
If we viewed the slopes of the trials from figure 1 as the rates of enzyme activity, our results could
be interpreted as the following: when in substrate concentration increased from a low
concentration(for example, from test tube 1 to test tube 2), the rate of the enzyme activity increased
with the increase in substrate concentration; but as the substrate concentration increased, the
enzyme activity reached a constant rate where all the enzymes were saturated(slope=0), and
increase in substrate concentration would have no effect on the activity rate. Also, the higher the
initial substrate concentration is, the faster the activity rate reached the constant(for example, test
tube 3 reached the constant rate 6

other hand, the use of setting by Chopin in Story of an Hour is used to generate suspense and
mystery. In Story of an Hour Chopin sets the story at the beginning, giving it a twist, reveals a

The Concept Of Sin In Dante Alighieri s Inferno
Dante Alighieri s Inferno is the first of three books in The Divine Comedy. A comedy in Dante s
time didn t mean what it means today: a comedy was a piece of literature that moved from dark to
light or from damnation to salvation in the eyes of God. In The Inferno, Dante delves into darkness
and damnation, and his view of the nature of Hell. Dante was a devout Catholic, so most of his
inspiration for The Inferno came from the Bible. In Dante s version of Hell, there are nine circles
that reach to the center of the Earth: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and
Sullenness, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Those who commit the least severe sins are put
near the top, as in Limbo, and the worst sins at the bottom come with the worst punishments. Dante,
the character in the book, is escorted by the poet Virgilto literally explore Dante s descent into sin.
To better understand the book s concept of sin, the reader should compare the least sinful part of
Hell, Limbo, to the most sinful part of Hell, the ninth circle where Satan is kept.
The poem begins with Dante waking up in a forest. Dante tries to climb the mountain and sees
three beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. Later, Dante meets Virgil, a Roman poet Dante is fond
of, to help him climb the mountain. Virgil says they have to go through Hell first before reaching
Heaven, where Beatrice, a woman Dante loved in real life, will be waiting for him. Eventually,
Dante and Virgil get to the first

Essay on Exploring the Autobiography of Malcom X
We declare our right on this earth...to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be
given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to
bring into existence by any means necessary. These words were spoken by Malcolm X, a civil
rights leader and political activist. He is also the main character, narrator, and author of the
Autobiography of Malcolm X. The autobiography takes place in various cities in the United States,
such as Omaha, New York, and Detroit, as well as the Middle East, and Africa.
Considering the type of literature this is, it is obvious to state that Malcolm X is the main

The Pros And Cons Of Uniforms In Schools
School uniforms: a debate that has been tossed back and forth for years now. The percentage of
schools that necessitate uniforms and the percentage of the ones that do not are approximately
equal. This conveys a dispute that is difficult to find a definite solution for, due to the ambiguous
negatives and positives being drawn between both arguments. Uniforms being a part of school
systems became widespread first after Long Beach, California implemented them into their
elementary and middle schools. It is safe to say that since then, schools have become far more
lenient with what restrictions students have when it comes to uniforms. However, some others

empathize the point being made, it should be known that hectoring youth can lead to both physical

so prominent in a teenager s life, precautions must be made.
Accepting uniforms in a school will help it present itself in a more professional and safe manner.
For instance, if someone were to come up to the school requesting entrance wearing clothing
previously banned, it would be a cause for suspicion. This could assist schools in being more
efficient in the event of a lockdown or emergency. Meanwhile, schools are still being regularly

In addition, school uniforms are generally a benefit for parents, economically. With uniforms
having the same style every year, albeit with occasional leniencies, there is not much cause for
buying new uniforms yearly besides from a child growing. Without a school uniform, teenagers
quickly tire of what they wear to school and want to get new clothes around every month. This is
due to students wanting to stay with the times and the latest trends. In the logic of the adolescent
mind, if you have the latest clothes, then it will boost your reputation and status on the school map,
and so a time consuming cycle is forged. This would cost the parents more of their salary that could

Temperature, Temperature And Gas Solubility
Temperature
Temperature is a measurement of the average kinetic energy (or speed) of atoms or molecules
(Khan Academy, 2017). The most typical units of temperature include degrees Celsius (oC), its
American equivalent Fahrenheit (F) or Kelvin (K).
At standard temperature, 0oC corresponds to 273 K. However, 0K is commonly referred to as the
absolute zero degree where all molecular motion would cease.
Temperature and gas solubility:
Generally, increasing temperature would cause a comparable rise in the solubility of liquid and
solid solutes in liquid solvents.
A specific example includes the crystallisation of a concentrated mannitol solution at low
temperatures and the redissolving of those solid crystals as upon heating. However, ... Show more

The particles in liquids, on the other hand, although still close within the proximity of one
another, are in random arrangements, having slightly more space to move. As the particles are
still held close, liquids also exhibit high densities. Water, however, is a prominent exception,
being different as it is denser as a liquid than a solid. Upon freezing, the water particles separate
slightly, forming crystal lattices with space between each particle that allow icebergs and ice cubes
to stay afloat the water (BBC, 2017).
Water, nevertheless, is much denser than air as gas particles have considerable space between one
and another. Water molecules, therefore, exert greater pressureon a diver s body as he descend into
the ocean than air particles would on a pilot ascending into the sky. This serves to justify why the
change in pressure is much greater for a given depth in water than for the same rise in air.
Volume
Volume can be defined as the quantity of three dimensional space occupied by a liquid, solid or
gas and is one of the most commonly used measurements worldwide. Several of the most typical
unites of volume include litres, millilitres, cubic metres, cubic centimetres and gallons
(Helmenstine, 2017). For instance, a 10 metre high rectangular tank with a base that is 4 metres in
length and 6 metres in width would be able to hold 10 metres x 4 metres x 6 metres = 240 cubic

Compare and Contrast Mitosis and Meiosis Essay
Compare and Contrast Mitosis and Meiosis
Meiosis and mitosis describes the process by which cells divide, either by asexual or sexual
reproduction to produce a new organism.
Meiosis is a form of cell division that produces gametes in humans these are egg cells and
sperms, each with reduced or halved number of chromosomes. The number of chromosomes is
restored when two gametes fuse together to form a zygote. A cell with two copies of each
chromosome is called diploid cell and a cell with one copy of each chromosome is called a haploid
cell. Meioses produces haploid daughter cells that are genetically different from each other and
from the parent cell. However, mitosis is a form of cell division that produces daughter cells ...

These bivalents line up along the equator during metaphase I, the arrangement of the bivalent is
completely random and relative to the orientation of the other bivalents, this is known as the
independent assortment of chromosomes. This is followed by anaphase I where the homologous
chromosomes separate and move to the opposite poles of the cell.
At telophase I the cell divides into two, each cell contains one chromosome from each homologous
pair. The second stage of meiosis is similar to mitosis. These centrioles replicate and the
chromosomes line along the equator at metaphase II and spilt at the centromeres causing the
chromatids to move to opposite sides at anaphase II. At telophase II the cell divides to form four
haploid cells, these are not identical to each other because the cells contains chromosomes from two
different parent gametes therefore differ genetically.
However, during mitotic division the cells produced are genetically identical to each other because
they are produced from the same parent cell. The cell begins to replicate during interphase to
produce two identical sister chromatids. At prophase the chromosomes become condense to
become visible and the membrane begins to break down. The chromosomes line up along the centre
of the equator during metaphase.
The chromatids separate and are pulled to opposite poles during anaphase. In telophase these

Effects Of The Amistad Revolt
On July 2, 1839, 53 hostage Africans on board the Amistad, a slave ship, broke out of their chains
and snuck up to the primary deck, where they overpowered and killed two crewmembers and
incapacitated the rest. Having hence seized control of the ship, they endeavored to cruise back to
their country, just to be deluded into traveling north rather than east. Throughout the following two
months, they went around 1,400 miles from Cuba to Long Island, New York, until the point when
the Naval force lifted them up and re imprisoned them. The Amistad was not the only slave revolt,
but one of the most significant. This revolt was an integral part of slave history because it brought
attention to the issue of slavery, inspired many, and helped establish laws and court systems today.
This Revolt brought attention to the issue of slavery. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth
centuries, approximatelyn expected 12 million Africans were persuasively dispatched over the
Atlantic Sea to the New World. Of those, no less than 1.5 million are said to have died before

How Does Socrates View Of Ignorance
The two philosophers Socrates and Aristotle have two different views on ignorance. First, I will
explain Socrates view on ignorance; He believes that ignorance is when you know that you don t
know something, and you don t want to learn it. So, in Socrates eyes not knowing and refusing to
learn or thinking that you know already is being ignorant. When you know that you don t know
something, but you are willing to learn that is called Socratic ignorance. But according to Socrates
nobody willingly dose wrong we aim for what we see as the apparent good, but sometimes fall

and care for the soul. Self knowledge ties in with self cultivation, what that means is understanding
yourself and also knowing the limits of your knowledge as well as shaping your knowledge and
making yourself better. Care for the soul deals with learning through reason and mastering the skill

Lincoln-Douglas Debate Essay examples
Every single moment that takes place in history arguably leaves an effect that lasts much longer
than just the initial outcome. The Lincoln Douglas Debates are by far one of the truest examples of
this happening. The seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas that took place
in 1858 had extreme importance in Illinois that created effects that decided the presidential election
of 1860.
The Lincoln Douglas debates were a series of several debates that took place all over the state of
Illinois. In these debates, two men argued in order to express their beliefs and standpoints on
certain issues, primarily slavery, in an attempt to be elected into a seat in the U.S. Senate. The two

Abraham Lincoln began as a lawyer born in Kentucky who gained attention to himself through
having contrasting beliefs to Douglas over the topic of slavery. Through the Lincoln Douglas
debates, Lincoln morphed into a candidate prepared to become an unforgettable president (History).
On June 16, 1858 made the statement a house divided against itself cannot stand, in a speech
about slavery, deeply contrasting with Douglas s views and speaking about the conspiracy of the
democratic plot to get slavery legalized in every state. This conspiracy, of course, was being partly
conspired by Stephen Douglas. Three weeks later, Stephen Douglas refuted these claims while also
calling Abraham Lincoln a dangerous abolitionist (Looking for Lincoln). Being an abolitionist at
the time held a very negative connotation because abolitionists were often irrational extremists
(Morel 4). The following evening, in the exact same place as Douglas had spoken, Lincoln spoke
once more.
The Lincoln Douglas debates all began due to the fact that Douglas had been travelling all over
the state of Illinois making speeches in order to increase the likelihood of his chance to be

Postcolonial Writing In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart is a modern example of postcolonial literature and is one of the
most influential pieces of its genre. Postcolonial writing presents important themes and lessons of
justice, equality, and freedom that can be applied to present times. It reminds us of how important
our freedoms are and why we need to protect them. The colonized write about their exploitation and
show how there is persecution in their colonized society. Postcolonial authors use specific methods
to undermine their colonizers and reveal their backward logic. Things Fall Aparthas various
examples of meta narrative, decolonization struggles, and colonial discourse worked in throughout
the novel. Chinua Achebes writing styles showcase these techniques to subvert his European
colonizers.
Meta narrative is an important method that postcolonial authors use to show the colonizer s
intolerance in the way they structure their stories. These authors point out these strategic ways that
colonizers write so you can more easily see their bias and prejudice when addressing the colonized.
Things Fall Apart has many instances of meta narrative, both big and small.
One clear meta narrative example that Chinua Achebe writes: The story of this man who had
killed a messenger and hanged himself would make interesting reading. One could almost write a
whole chapter on him. Perhaps not a whole chapter but a reasonable paragraph, at any rate. There

means that the total investment on Apple has not yet attributed what is expected. Though we

the customers to switch from Windows to MAC OS. Since as stated in the case study if Apple
took 1% of Windows users to switch, Apple s market share would increase by 20 35%. What are
the reasons preventing people from switching from Windows to Mac? The main reason is the
compatibility between these operating systems. Apple has isolated itself from the market, as
they focus on developing both hardware and software, which are compatible only with one
another . That explains also in a great value the low profitability ratios referred above. Apple
spends too much on research and development and also on manufacturing because their products
are not compatible with the competition. So Apple has to take a strategic step forward and
develop an operational system which will be fully compatible with Windows. A Mac OS in which
users will be able to run any Microsoft program. In that way Apple customers will maintain their

Persuasive Speech For Your Address In Our School
Superintendent Crouse, Loveland Administration, and Loveland School Board Members, just

this, I hold very high regards and respect for you, and the fact that you care for all your students,

classes, so that we could have different weeks for different subjects, but still maintain a four block
day. The ideacame to me from my French class, on account of the fact that the French actually do
this at their schools.
In further details, it would mean that for two weeks we, the student population, would have half of
our classes, as long as there are no complications which I will explain later. The next two weeks,
however, we will have the other half of our classes, excluding special cases, again. As I know,
there are some flaws, as there are in every good idea. One such problem we could, no would run
into, would have to be if a student were to take 2 classes that have to be taken in a consecutive
order. To solve this problem, all that would have to be done is a bit of extra tampering with their
scheduling, which would happen regardless of the new changes for some. Said student would just
have to revert back to block scheduling, and switch classes half way through the year as we do
now. In result, the student would get the classes they want, and the new schedule for their
remaining classes. Another problem that some may argue could arise is the fact of tests, quizzes,
homework, or finals, because we can t all have time turners. Taking two weeks off could
potentially affect some grades, but if you think about it, units really only take about two weeks to
explain and finish their complementary tests, and homework wouldn t overlap unless it were some
long term project. The reason these flaws would be worth the extra time and effort to get through
would be the extra focus students would gain. I find that I do better at the beginning of the

Predator Prey Paper
The role of predation is critical in shaping ecosystem structure and function (Berger et al., 2001;
Hawlena and Schmitz, 2010). Predator prey interactions can alter community composition (Kneite
and Chase, 2004), mediate trophic cascades (Mooney et al., 2010), increase biodiversity (Letnic
and Ritchie, 2012), and affect speciesinvasions (Snyder et al. 2004). Furthermore, predators can
control the dynamics of prey populations by influencing such aspects as survival, growth,
behavior, size structure, and distribution (Beauchamp et al., 2007) while prey can likewise
regulate predator populations (Yoshida et al., 2003; Ishii and Shimada, 2010). One of the
primary components of predator prey interactions is the behavior and subsequent survival of prey
in the presence of predators which we focus on in this study. For decades scientists have studied
the behavioral response of prey to predators. Numerous studies have directly linked prey activity

In the technology world, the latest advancement is only as good as the next thing coming down
the line. The auto industry is constantly bringing us new technologies, whether it be for safety,
entertainment, usefulness or simply for pure innovation (Neiger,C.). Unless you re an inveterate
walker or a mass transit rider, you probably spend more time in your car each week than anywhere
except your workplace and your home. It s not always pleasant. Highway gridlock, a fruitless
search for a parking space or a brush with a thundering tractor trailer can rattle all but the most Zen
drivers. Things are about to get better. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next up are cars that can park themselves at the push of a button.
If you believe the hype, it would seem that self driving cars are right around the corner. Google has
been testing them for several years, and states like California and Nevada have authorized them for
use on roads although only with a human behind the wheel. Autonomous driving features, such as
systems that recognize hazards and brake on their own to avoid collisions, are already on the
market. But the fantasy of a car that automatically steers you to work while you read the morning
paper or catch a few extras is still many years away. Autonomous driving is not going to mean
jump in the car, push a button, say Take me to grandma s house and go to sleep, said James Bell,
head of consumer affairs for GM. That may come someday, but not soon.
For decades, most automobile headlights were fairly uncomplicated. They pointed fixedly ahead,
with separate high beams for greater visibility on dark roads. Then came the more energy efficient
halogen and xenon lights and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Now, automakers are pioneering a
generation of smart headlights that can automatically adjust their brightness or direction
depending on conditions. And a coming wave of laser high beams promises to illuminate the road
ahead for a third of a mile twice the range of LED high beam headlights while using less energy.

New Brutalism
In the following years, the Smithson and Banham would make several more remarks on New
Brutalism. All these later remarks, as demonstrated by recent scholarships, only created an even
more murky definition of New Brutalism. More than a decade after the initial surge of writings, the
New Brutalism debates was reignited following Banham s 1966 publication New Brutalism: Ethics
or Aesthetic. It was also at this moment that the Smithson reinstated the importance of Crosby s
contribution to the New Brutalism discourse and distant themselves from the interpretation offered
by Reyner Banham. In 1973, Alison and Peter Smithson published Without Rhetoric; an

the period. What was notable about the Milbank project was that the Smithsons created a series of
drawings that looked like Japanese scrolls for the competition. The building was presented, with its
structural elements exposed, in an isometric view an apparent reference to oriental paintings. There
was no furniture or interior fitting in the illustrations; instead one could only find scattered Japanese
figures dressed in traditional Kimono along the scroll. Not unlike in their New Brutalism article, the
Smithsons took pride in their superficial understanding of Japanese culture: they declared that the
ancient Japanese figures were cut out from a postcard from the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the
description of the project, the Smithsons made reference again to the idea of

The Luck Uglies Essay
Have you read a book as action packed and suspenseful as The Luck Uglies by Paul Durham? After
this, you will be wanting to read it. It is a great book for those who like to read fantasy and fairy
tale books. It can pull you in for a mystical and wild ride. This book is more interesting than the
ordinary good versus evil fantasybooks. It puts you into a complex puzzle that you have to solve.
In a time long ago, in a large village, a girl named Rye O Chanter has experienced peculiar
events. Long ago, there were monstrous creatures named Bog Noblins that are now supposed to
be extinct. However, Rye encountered a strange creature which looked like a Bog Noblin which
convinced her that they returned from Beyond the Shale, a forest. No one can protect the village
except an old, exiled secret society that no one in Village Drowning... Show more content on

This was a challenge because everyone despised the Luck Uglies and their crimes. Many people
thought it was not possible based on their crime record. It was also a challenge since Bog
Noblins were very dangerous. They could easily kill humans with their bare hands. For example,
Rye almost got killed by the monster, but she got squeezed by the throat instead. She did not die
because Harmless saved her from the monster. The theme of this book would be, Sometimes things
may not seem how it really is. This is because the Luck Uglies, the so called villains, protected the
villagers from the Bog Noblins, the monsters. Longchance had exiled the Luck Uglies from
Village Drowning because he thought they kidnapped Lady Longchance. The Luck Uglies hadn t
done anything wrong, but since they lived in Beyond the Shale, they were claimed guilty. Even
after, Longchance made the villagers hate the Luck Uglies, so that he would be valued more and
treated better. In the end, he was considered the real villain of the

Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is an extremely captivating and terrifying story. The author of
Jackson s The Lottery describes Shirley Jackson s short story perfectly, It is a grim, even nihilistic,
parable of the evil inherent in human nature (Coulthard 226). The Lottery creates an immensely
eerie story by using the setting of a small town, the nonchalant attitude of the community, and the
tone of the author. The size and remoteness of the village really brings the creepiness of the story
together. It makes the reader believe that this story could most definitely be nonfiction. The town
has a population of only three hundred, and, based on Brito s film The Lotteryit is in a desert
(Jackson 312). This only adds to the darkness of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story starts out with children playing and parents acting quite casual. It seems that the town
does not care about the death of a fellow community member. The town stacks stones in the
corner that children fight over to obtain the best ones. The careless attitude towards The Lottery
only adds to the eeriness of The Lottery. They are more worried about getting back to work than
The Lottery. During the film, The Lottery Old Man Warner is the oldest in the village at seventy
seven, and it is let know The Lottery has been going on well before his time (Brito). The
Hutchinson family wins the Lottery, and amongst them Mrs. Hutchinson, the wife, becomes the
not so lucky winner of The Lottery. Throughout the subtle chaos the people of the village begins
to call her a sore loser, and it creates a sense that The Lottery is just some game. If that is not proof
of their disconnection from Mrs. Hutchinson they even gave her toddler son rocks to throw (319).
This is just to show that if something is done for a long enough time you eventually become

The Major Economic Problems That Have Plagued Latin America
1.What are the major economic problems that have plagued Latin America in the 20th century?
During the 20th century Latin America went through a change after the U.S made the clam to
directly defend Latin America. This caused a sudden trade switch from the Europe nation to the
U.S. With this trade switch we start to see a big gap between the lower and upper class. With
this gap the poor gets poorer and the rich become Carlos Slim. Carlos Slim was the world s
richest person form 2010 2013 and is a perfect example of how the upper class becomes
billionaires. The wealth Disparity can also be seen in areas like Sao Paulo, Brazil with their
slums. With this wage gap, crime started to flourish in Latin amerce along with corruption.
Some of the best examples of crime and corruption are the Colombian drug cartels with their
widespread murder and bribery tactics. Politic violence also affected Latin America like
revolutions and other up raising the government would shift and political power would change
every few years. The common assassination of politic enemies for cartels often changed the Latin
America diplomatic landscape. 2.How did Peru and Nicaragua differ in terms of Indian
acceptance of leftism in the 1970s and 1980s? Why? In the 1980 s Peru was a hotbed of leftist
activity due to the fact of Peru majority was contested of Indians who lived in poverty. Some of the
reasons for the left wing politics were debated the inequality, social privilege and Marginalization

Formation Of Dipeptides And Polypeptides From Amino Acids
Formation of dipeptides and polypeptides via amino acids
Dipeptides and polypeptides
Amino acids are the monomers of proteins, which means that proteins are just long chains of amino
acids, that have been bonded together end to end. Amino acids can be used to form larger
molecules to form larger molecules to form condensation reactions.
When a condensation reaction occurs, a reaction between the amino group(of one amino acid) and
the acid group (from another amino acid) will cause a covalent bond to form between those two
amino acids, (this bond is also known as a peptide bond), the resulting reaction will form a much
larger mad e from the two amino acids the molecule that is formed is known as a dipeptide
molecule (a dipeptide molecule is a molecule consisting of two amino acids bonded by a peptide
bond), because it is a condensation reaction a water molecule will also form.
When more and more amino acids go through the condensation reaction, they will bond to the other
amino acids via the peptide bonds; this will eventually cause the formation of a polypeptide.
Primary structure of proteins
We know that proteins are basically just amino acids bonded by peptide bonds which form a chain.
However the function of protein is determined by the structure of that protein itself, we can
determine the structure of an amino acid by observing what sequence the amino are in, each
protein or polypeptide as its own unique sequence of amino acids, we refer

The Jackson Graeter Backstage Theatre Of The Mary Alice...
At 12:30 PM, on October 18, 2016 I attended a Brown Bag Event that took place at the Jackson
Graeter Backstage Theatre of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. The event was a
recital by singer / songwriter Ms. Amy Engelhardt, performing original works from her 2008
album, Not Going to be Pretty. She played the piano as she sang; and two Temple College staff
members (Tarik Hassan on double bass and Norm Bergeron on the drums) also accompanied her.
Ms. Engelhardt performed eleven original pieces: Bridges and Tunnels , Satellite , Yreka
Bakery , Dogs , What do I do With Your Car? , Sandwich Man , Ride of Your Life , I Heard That ,
You re Not Going to be Pretty , Deadline Alaska and Final Hour . In addition, the artist also
played Drown in You , a song she collaborated with Karen Hart to write, and This Better be Good
, a cover tune . The cover tune was originally written by Fountains of Wayne, Ms. Engelhardt
made it her own by giving the melody a new twist. All the songs are contemporary, having been
written in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Most the songs are sung using a Comedy
/ Satire Rock genre, however, What do I do With Your Car? and Final Hour had more of a
Ballard tempo. Ms. Amy Engelhardt was introduced to the audience by Mrs. Teri Johnson. The
artist introduced the two men who would be accompanying her in many of the pieces. All four
were dressed casual and yet dressy, which was appropriate for the locale.

Importance Of Happiness In Everyday Life
Happiness in Everyday Life Early morning, the birds start chirping and the crisp, cool air that
glides through the windows awake the whole city. The smell of the bloomed flowers in the
garden refreshes, and relaxes your whole state of mind. Sitting comfortably on the wooden
porch, drinking hot brewed coffee and listening to the sounds of nature washes all your worries
away. With a clear mind, the shining sun that squeezes between the smoky clouds reminds you
of a new day. Or perhaps a hot cleansing bubble bath, filled with a layer of surfactant lavender
scented foam, relaxing your body from head to toe after a long day of work. In both cases, the
relaxing and refreshing routines both exhibit one of the many forms of happiness. Happiness is
the state of being happy. Happiness, an important part of the world today because happiness is
really all we ve got, this benefits not only our personal lives, but our societal lives as well, in this
state of mind we can create a more peaceful, energetic, and compassionate world. The state of
being happy and content, started way back in Christian philosophy. Happiness can include
listening to uplifting, relaxing music to boost your mood and appearance. Being in this state of
mind, anything can uplift your mood, such as music. Whether it s being performed, danced to,
or singing along it can increase the way you feel and even lift the spirts up. You often hear
people listening to music when feeling mournful, upset or even just while showering, and this is
because it boosts your mood and makes you feel delightful. Music is a big part of society, it s
played on the radio, elevators, and even performed and taught in middle school. The enjoyment
and jubilation that music brings to everyone in the world today is why it makes a huge impact on
those suffering with depression, anxiety, and even helps with heart rate. For many people
happiness is a condition that the many would consider temporary, which is because they let
external situations get in between. Being emotionally stable and happy can create a positive effect
on the world. We can all relate back to when we undergo some difficult times, or not feeling the
greatest. However, I know when it s me in that position, I don t

Senior Dance Concert Review
The Senior Dance concert, 9 o clock showing consisted of seven dance pieces. The first piece
was called Heavy Dew , this piece was comprised of a six person group dance. The backdrop was
a blue shading. The sounds in this piece were waterfalls, and rainforest sounds. The movements
made me feel as though the dancers were creatures in a wilderness or a rainforest, it was fast
paced. For the first part of the performance the group of girls are dancing in front of the audience
together, then as the musicturns to be more serious and intense, there is just one dancer on the
stage. Then, once all the dancers come back onto the stage, the music starts to soften and slow
down again and the lights begin to dim for the remainder of the performance. The second
performance was a solo act given the title of Love You, Possess Me. The title says it all. This was
a very dark piece. The dancer was wearing an all black lace dress. She gave off an impression of
being a black widow. The movements were mostly on the floor. The music was dim, and made
me feel as though I was in a thriller film. The look on the performer s face made me feel as
though she was distant from everyone else, tragic, and apprehensive. I enjoyed this piece the most
out of all of them. The third piece was titled Unclothing The Elephant. It consisted of seven
performers. The music being played appeared to be a violin. All of the performers were dressed in
black and white attire. For majority of the performance the

Symbolism In John Irving s A Prayer For Owen Meany
Symbolism is often shown in John Irving s A Prayer for Owen Meany through recurring topics
such as armlessness. From Owen amputating the armadillos claws, to Owen being obsessed with
amputations in general, this topic foreshadows Owen s death, and helps build the theme of
destiny and fate. Irving uses armlessness to symbolize helplessness and loss of something very
important to a person. At the start of the novel, after Owen s foul ball killed Tabitha, John gives
Owen his armadillo to show Owen that he still loves him. When Owen returned the armadillo,
the claws were missing because Owen amputated them. Owen explains that Dan, John, and
himself all lost a part of them just like the armadillo lost his claws. Owen had meant to say that
God had taken his hands and that he believed he was an instrument of God. GOD HAS TAKEN
YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS.
I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT. (90) Owen used his arms to throw the foul ball that killed Tabitha.
He amputated the armadillo s claws to show John and Dan that when they lost Tabitha, they both
lost something important to them just as the claws of an armadillo were important to the animal.
This quote also foreshadows how Owen dies, and how God put him on the Earth to fulfill a God
given task. As the novel continues, John recalls a memory of Owen and him having a sleepover.
At that sleepover Owen felt very sick, so he went to go ask John s mother, Tabitha for help. When
Owen walked into

Immigrants Shape American Identity

Aerodynamics, A Subset Of Fluid Dynamics
Aerodynamics, a subset of fluid dynamics, is the study of the behavior of objects when exposed
to air. Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has
similar laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds
Numbers, created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids
behave against objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster
fluid flow creates lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure.
There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs
when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The
second force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided
by turbofans, turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by
the bowstring. Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the
force of weight is. The last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating
friction and heat which slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with
almost (practically) no effect in space.
With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal
flight. Powered flight continuously uses energy to fly for periods of time, such as throwing an

Police Enforcement And The Police Department Essay
Policing the Police
Abstract
There are thousands and thousands of law enforcement agencies in the United States and most of
these agencies are local, small to medium sized agencies. These agencies are tasked to do the
dirty work outside of the larger cities and can be relied on heavily by people for the public safety
being sought out. Every agency is different about how they go about handling these allegations
regarding police conduct, corruption and the complaints from citizens. Unfortunately, there is no
consistency between all the agencies which is sad. The agency I am writing this paper on is Inglis
Police Department, a police department that was small agency and are no longer in existence as of
2012. The department is no longer in existence because the city needed funds for other matters and
decided to grant Levy County the option to patrol the area. Throughout this paper I will be
outlining the process of how complaints are processed and investigated when they are sent into the
department, also touching on the police conduct and corruption that can take place within the
department and what can be improved moving forward to better serve the citizens of the area.
Keywords: Conduct, Complaints, Corruption
Introduction Before we dive into the good stuff, I would like to define some terms that I will be
touching base on throughout my paper, one of those terms being a complaint. A complaint is any
formal document that lays out the facts and logical reasons that

  • 5. James Baldwin s View On Religion Works of all genres contains religious references and allusions, many of which criticize or critique certain religious practices, and James Baldwin, an author in the 1950s, served as a major contributor to this group of works. He wrote several books, plays, and essays that served as major pieces of religious commentary during the 1950s. His writing explored topics that criticized strict religion, opening up a new outlook on relationships with God. Baldwin experienced many facets of religion in his life, creating autobiographical tendencies in his writing that filled his works with his own opinions about religion. The autobiographical nature of Baldwin s writings, coupled with the common appearance of Christian ideas in his stories, suggests that he led a largely Christian life. Stanley later validates this notion in saying that Baldwin himself worked as a teenage preacher (Stanley). Confirming his Christian childhood, Baldwin s status as a preacher strengthens the importance of religion in his life. Lloyd states that Baldwin s father often recited Joshua 24:25, saying as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Lloyd 5). Lloyd furthers the idea that Baldwin s early life contained a strong Christian presence, as this Bible quote highlights the prominence of religion in Baldwin s life. In addition to Baldwin s status as a teenage preacher, his residence in a house dedicated to serving God explains the religious presence in his works and confirms the idea that he often discussed important concepts of his life in his writing. Baldwin s Go Tell It on the Mountain begins with [he] would be a preacher when he grew up, just like his father. This shows not only the religious nature of Baldwin s writing but also provides evidence of his autobiographical tendencies. The main character s status as a preacher reveals that Baldwin wrote characters possessing very similar qualities to his own and that his works contained a strong religious presence. Baldwin s religious lifestyle serves as a gateway for the establishment of strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Gps Technology THE GPS TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION Throughout time people have developed a variety of ways to figure out their position on earth and to navigate from one place to another. Early mariners relied on angular measurements to celestial bodies like sun and stars to calculate their location. The 1920s witnessed the introduction of more advanced technique radio navigation based at first on radios that allowed navigators to locate the direction of shore based transmitters when in range. Later development of artificial satellites made possible the transmission of more precise, line of sight radio navigation signals and sparked a new era in navigation technology. Satellites are first used in position finding in a simple but reliable 2D Navy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The satellite signals are further processed by data processor of the navigation set to demodulate the data and then decode it to get the user s 3D position coordinates. The GPS receivers are used for navigation, positioning, aviation, shipping, geology and other purposes. WORKING Consider the case of a lightning followed by a thunder. A few seconds after seeing the lightning we hear the thunder. If we know the time taken for the sound waves to travel from the lightning place to the listener, we can calculate the distance between the listener and the lightning place. Similar principle is used in the working of GPS. The GPS system works by determining how long it takes a radio signal transmitted from a satellite to reach a land based receiver and then, using that time to calculate the distance between the satellite and the Earth station receiver. Radio waves travel at approximately the speed of light, 3x108 m/s. if a receiver can determine exactly when a satellite began sending a radio signal and exactly when the signal was received, then it can determine the propagation time. From propagation time, the receiver can determine the distance between it and the satellite using the mathematical relationship d = v Г— t Where d = ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Grandmother Symbolism It is truthfully effortless comparing two well written stories when the elements of fiction are attentively assembled. Due to the limited amount of fictional elements, there is not many to choose from. The writings of A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O Connor, and Hills like White Elephants, by Ernest Hemingway, display the presence of mutual elements. The uniqueness of both stories is what predominantly stands out. Both authors present their anecdotes with parallel approaches, but provide multiple dissimilarities in doing so. The grandmothers role in A Good Man is Hard to Find, is defined by selfishness, greed and egocentric opinions. Throughout the story, it is clearly pointed out that the grandmother will by any means necessary strive to persuade her son, Bailey, to fulfill her desires. The Know Nothings gained support from blue collar American workers, who were fearful of losing their job to Irishmen, which was a justified belief at the time. Lewis Levin, the first known leader of the Know Nothings, believed that the Irish would follow the Catholic Pope without question, which would provide the pope the resources to take over the United States. The Know Nothing spread their message of fear, through the spreading of rumors and lies about Irish workers, as noted by Bruce Levine in his paper Conservatism, nativism, and slavery: Thomas R. Whitney and the origins of the know Nothing Party which states Their critics branded the Irish as lazy, thieving drunkards, poor material for either a labor force or a citizenry. And the Catholic Church, nativists added, aggravated the problem by promoting ignorance and low superstition and offering comforting, exculpatory rituals (notably confession and absolution) that only encouraged the dissolute, undisciplined behavior of the canaille. The Know Nothing party, worked to ensure that the common man would share their view of the Irish as a common drunk, who should never have brought into the country. • 11. Evidence Of The Big Bang Cosmology The second evidence of the Big Bang is the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which is the electromagnetic radiation left over from the time of recombination in Big Bang cosmology. It represents the first light that travelled in the universe, at the time when the first atoms were formed and the universe was transparent. The scientists Alpher and Hermann deduced that before the recombination epoch, everything was plasma and the light rays would be continually scattered by the particles they encountered (protons, neutrons, electrons), because many particles were charged. During the recombination period, (around 300,000 years after the Big Bang, time taken from the universe to cool down to 3,000 degrees Kelvin), the universe had cooled sufficiently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... COBE s measurements also provided another key of evidence of the Big Bang: the CMB has a near perfect black body spectrum. an object with a constant temperature that absorbs all radiation that hits it A blackbody spectrum is produced by an isothermal, opaque and non reflecting object. Because of the universality of the blackbody spectrum, it is possible to convert any spectral measurement into a brightness temperature at the measured wavelength. The unique character of a blackbody spectrum is that the brightness temperature of a blackbody is the same at all wavelengths (this is why every wavelength in the CMB is 1 mm). Furthermore, in order to make a blackbody spectrum, an object has to be opaque, non reflective and isothermal. Thus a star, which is opaque, does not produce it because it has cooler outer layers and hotter deeper layers. Thus the universe should have been a dark (since photons weren t free to escape), non reflecting and isothermal plasma. (10) Even though the temperature of the universe changes as it evolves, it looks isothermal because the redshifting of radiation makes the universe appear to have exactly the same temperature as ... • 14. Criticism Of Brave New World 84 years ago, Aldous Huxley wrote a dystopian fictional novel called Brave new world. The dystopian society of the brave new world is based on three principles; Community, Identity, and Stability. In this world, everything is idyllic both socially and economically. In fact, even human belonging to this society are produced artificially and consumed according to economic necessities. Misery and suffering are defunct in this world. However, the novel discusses that perfect world is a destruction of nature. Today, after 84 years, we could analogies to what extent Huxley s dystopia resembles our society, in social and economic terms. Through that analysis, possibly introduce a solution to prevent our world from becoming a brave new world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Materialism is increasing and we seek pleasure through accomplishing our materialistic needs, for example, people squander useful technology just because a new version of it has came out. Today game consoles, which are an expensive gadget, have replaced sports. Likewise in the brave new world they used complex machines in games to increase consumption. Decidedly this world is heading toward extreme materialism. As people of the world state have been conditioned to consume more likewise, we are conditioned through economic strategies such as planned obsolescence and perceived obsolescence. Planned obsolescence mean things are designed for dumb. Perceived obsolescence is a strategy, which encourages us to squander useful things and buy new ones. We have a materialistic mindset, thus, this clarifies that our economic trends resembles the economic trends of the brave new world.

With the assumption that Palestine is a state to facilitate discussion, this report sketches out the most significant elements of the conflict on the three levels defined by Kenneth Waltz, and applies the Realist theory of international relations (IR) to the Two State solution. Such instability has been particularly highlighted by frequent national elections and coalition reconstruction in Israel. The PA resembles a classic authoritarian regime under the reign of Mahmoud Abbas even though it is supposed to be democratic. The PA government remains relatively stable under this structure. However, militant groups like Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad could be a credible external threat to the established governance of the PA. Since 2003, conflicts between the two major factions, the traditional dominant party, Fatah, and its subsequent electoral rival, Hamas, have fractured the Palestinian side. After the Hamas took power in the Gaza Strip in June 2007, the territory controlled by the PA was split between Fatah in the West Bank , and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. [1] The estrangement between the parties has led to the fall of bipartisan governance of the PA [2]. 3. • 17. The Supply And Demand For Metals Found At The Ocelot Mine The supply and demand for metals found at the Ocelot Mine will vary by commodity although the demand for all three is increasing. Zinc, in particular, shows the most potential for increase, as many of the world s main producers are closing between the years 2015 and 2020 [16]. It is believed that this will result in a gap between supply and demand. Already the demand is outweighing the supply, and as such, zinc prices have increased dramatically. Silver and lead also show growth potential, largely due to high demand from developing nations and the increase in the industrial sectors of these countries. Being an operator in Peru also requires understanding what countries are buying Peru s exports. China received 16.65% of the total value of Peru s exports in 2012 [22]. As such, the continued growth of Peru s economy is largely dependent on the wellbeing of China s economy. A slowdown in their economy would reduce the ability of producers to export their products. An example of this can be seen in the financial crash of 2008 to 2009, which had a devastating impact on the production of galvanized steel sheets. The global production decreased by 40% during this crisis, as depicted in Figure 8.10. Since then the market has recovered approximately 65%, primarily due to the growth in Chinese steel production [17]. This highlights the sensitivity of the zinc market to the wellbeing of the Chinese economy. Figure 8.5: Historic production of galvanized steel [17] 8.4. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discussion If we viewed the slopes of the trials from figure 1 as the rates of enzyme activity, our results could be interpreted as the following: when in substrate concentration increased from a low concentration(for example, from test tube 1 to test tube 2), the rate of the enzyme activity increased with the increase in substrate concentration; but as the substrate concentration increased, the enzyme activity reached a constant rate where all the enzymes were saturated(slope=0), and increase in substrate concentration would have no effect on the activity rate. • 27. The Concept Of Sin In Dante Alighieri s Inferno Dante Alighieri s Inferno is the first of three books in The Divine Comedy. A comedy in Dante s time didn t mean what it means today: a comedy was a piece of literature that moved from dark to light or from damnation to salvation in the eyes of God. In The Inferno, Dante delves into darkness and damnation, and his view of the nature of Hell. Dante was a devout Catholic, so most of his inspiration for The Inferno came from the Bible. In Dante s version of Hell, there are nine circles that reach to the center of the Earth: Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Avarice and Prodigality, Wrath and Sullenness, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery. Those who commit the least severe sins are put near the top, as in Limbo, and the worst sins at the bottom come with the worst punishments. Dante, the character in the book, is escorted by the poet Virgilto literally explore Dante s descent into sin. To better understand the book s concept of sin, the reader should compare the least sinful part of Hell, Limbo, to the most sinful part of Hell, the ninth circle where Satan is kept. The poem begins with Dante waking up in a forest. Dante tries to climb the mountain and sees three beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. Later, Dante meets Virgil, a Roman poet Dante is fond of, to help him climb the mountain. Virgil says they have to go through Hell first before reaching Heaven, where Beatrice, a woman Dante loved in real life, will be waiting for him. Eventually, Dante and Virgil get to the first ... Upon freezing, the water particles separate slightly, forming crystal lattices with space between each particle that allow icebergs and ice cubes to stay afloat the water (BBC, 2017). Meiosis is a form of cell division that produces gametes in humans these are egg cells and sperms, each with reduced or halved number of chromosomes. The number of chromosomes is restored when two gametes fuse together to form a zygote. A cell with two copies of each chromosome is called diploid cell and a cell with one copy of each chromosome is called a haploid cell. This is followed by anaphase I where the homologous chromosomes separate and move to the opposite poles of the cell. At telophase I the cell divides into two, each cell contains one chromosome from each homologous pair. The second stage of meiosis is similar to mitosis. These centrioles replicate and the chromosomes line along the equator at metaphase II and spilt at the centromeres causing the chromatids to move to opposite sides at anaphase II. At telophase II the cell divides to form four haploid cells, these are not identical to each other because the cells contains chromosomes from two different parent gametes therefore differ genetically. However, during mitotic division the cells produced are genetically identical to each other because they are produced from the same parent cell. It reminds us of how important our freedoms are and why we need to protect them. The colonized write about their exploitation and show how there is persecution in their colonized society. Postcolonial authors use specific methods to undermine their colonizers and reveal their backward logic. Things Fall Aparthas various examples of meta narrative, decolonization struggles, and colonial discourse worked in throughout the novel. Chinua Achebes writing styles showcase these techniques to subvert his European colonizers. Meta narrative is an important method that postcolonial authors use to show the colonizer s intolerance in the way they structure their stories. These authors point out these strategic ways that colonizers write so you can more easily see their bias and prejudice when addressing the colonized. Things Fall Apart has many instances of meta narrative, both big and small. One clear meta narrative example that Chinua Achebe writes: The story of this man who had killed a messenger and hanged himself would make interesting reading. One could almost write a whole chapter on him. Perhaps not a whole chapter but a reasonable paragraph, at any rate. There was so much else to include, and one must be firm in ... However Apple holds a market share of only 3.48 percent among its six strongest competitors. The fact is that today the PC market is a mature market and only the strong survive. In Exhibit 1 is shown how the PC market has been shared among the most valuable players and how Apple s share has decreased by more than half during five years time. Under the current situation the only way for a company to increase its market share is to take customers away from the competition. So the question is what Apple has to do in order to gain more market share. First of all let... Since as stated in the case study if Apple took 1% of Windows users to switch, Apple s market share would increase by 20 35%. What are the reasons preventing people from switching from Windows to Mac? The main reason is the compatibility between these operating systems. Apple has isolated itself from the market, as they focus on developing both hardware and software, which are compatible only with one another . That explains also in a great value the low profitability ratios referred above. Apple spends too much on research and development and also on manufacturing because their products are not compatible with the competition. So Apple has to take a strategic step forward and develop an operational system which will be fully compatible with Windows. A Mac OS in which users will be able to run any Microsoft program. In that way Apple customers will maintain their Image and Style but also will not be limited from using any software on the market. In such a case there may be an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Capitol controlled everything and ruled with an iron fist. Surrounding the Capitol were 13 districts. These districts provided everything the nation needed. In return for their support, the Capitol protected its districts. This year, everything seemed to be perfect. Unemployment was low, income was up, crime was at an all time low, and the Capitol and the districts seemed to be entering a golden age of peace and prosperity. Persuasive Speech For Your Address In Our School Superintendent Crouse, Loveland Administration, and Loveland School Board Members, just last year you vied for us to obtain our own tennis courts, which I use every week. As a result of this, I hold very high regards and respect for you, and the fact that you care for all your students, and want to do all you can to improve our school lives. For this, I know you are welcome to new ideas, and I hope to be able to share mine without giving you the wrong impression, as I have no intent to offend you in any way. My focus as of this moment is to change the course scheduling for classes, so that we could have different weeks for different subjects, but still maintain a four block day. The ideacame to me from my French class, on account of the fact that the French actually do this at their schools. In further details, it would mean that for two weeks we, the student population, would have half of our classes, as long as there are no complications which I will explain later. The next two weeks, however, we will have the other half of our classes, excluding special cases, again. As I know, there are some flaws, as there are in every good idea. One such problem we could, no would run into, would have to be if a student were to take 2 classes that have to be taken in a consecutive order. To solve this problem, all that would have to be done is a bit of extra tampering with their scheduling, which would happen regardless of the new changes for some. Said student would just have to revert back to block scheduling, and switch classes half way through the year as we do now. In result, the student would get the classes they want, and the new schedule for their remaining classes. Another problem that some may argue could arise is the fact of tests, quizzes, homework, or finals, because we can t all have time turners. Taking two weeks off could potentially affect some grades, but if you think about it, units really only take about two weeks to explain and finish their complementary tests, and homework wouldn t overlap unless it were some long term project. The reason these flaws would be worth the extra time and effort to get through would be the extra focus students would gain. I find that I do better at the beginning of the ... • 41. Predator Prey Paper The role of predation is critical in shaping ecosystem structure and function (Berger et al., 2001; Hawlena and Schmitz, 2010). Predator prey interactions can alter community composition (Kneite and Chase, 2004), mediate trophic cascades (Mooney et al., 2010), increase biodiversity (Letnic and Ritchie, 2012), and affect speciesinvasions (Snyder et al. 2004). Furthermore, predators can control the dynamics of prey populations by influencing such aspects as survival, growth, behavior, size structure, and distribution (Beauchamp et al., 2007) while prey can likewise regulate predator populations (Yoshida et al., 2003; Ishii and Shimada, 2010). One of the primary components of predator prey interactions is the behavior and subsequent survival of prey in the presence of predators which we focus on in this study. For decades scientists have studied the behavioral response of prey to predators. Numerous studies have directly linked prey activity levels (e.g. Skelly, 1994; McIntyre et al. 2012) and refuge use (e.g. Cowlishaw, 1997; Belgrad and Smith, 2014) to predationrisk, while other investigations have determined that predator avoidance behaviors (e.g. migration, reduced foraging) can limit prey growth (Werner et al., 1983), development (Skelly and Werner, 1990), and fecundity (Peckarsky et al., 1993). These behavioral changes also have an enormous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Autonomous driving features, such as systems that recognize hazards and brake on their own to avoid collisions, are already on the market. Autonomous driving is not going to mean jump in the car, push a button, say Take me to grandma s house and go to sleep, said James Bell, head of consumer affairs for GM. During the 20th century Latin America went through a change after the U.S made the clam to directly defend Latin America. This caused a sudden trade switch from the Europe nation to the U.S. With this trade switch we start to see a big gap between the lower and upper class. Formation Of Dipeptides And Polypeptides From Amino Acids Formation of dipeptides and polypeptides via amino acids Dipeptides and polypeptides Amino acids are the monomers of proteins, which means that proteins are just long chains of amino acids, that have been bonded together end to end. Amino acids can be used to form larger molecules to form larger molecules to form condensation reactions. When a condensation reaction occurs, a reaction between the amino group(of one amino acid) and the acid group (from another amino acid) will cause a covalent bond to form between those two amino acids, (this bond is also known as a peptide bond), the resulting reaction will form a much larger mad e from the two amino acids the molecule that is formed is known as a dipeptide molecule (a dipeptide molecule is a molecule consisting of two amino acids bonded by a peptide bond), because it is a condensation reaction a water molecule will also form. When more and more amino acids go through the condensation reaction, they will bond to the other amino acids via the peptide bonds; this will eventually cause the formation of a polypeptide. Primary structure of proteins We know that proteins are basically just amino acids bonded by peptide bonds which form a chain. From Owen amputating the armadillos claws, to Owen being obsessed with amputations in general, this topic foreshadows Owen s death, and helps build the theme of destiny and fate. Irving uses armlessness to symbolize helplessness and loss of something very important to a person. At the start of the novel, after Owen s foul ball killed Tabitha, John gives Owen his armadillo to show Owen that he still loves him. When Owen returned the armadillo, the claws were missing because Owen amputated them. Owen explains that Dan, John, and himself all lost a part of them just like the armadillo lost his claws. Owen had meant to say that God had taken his hands and that he believed he was an instrument of God. GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD S INSTRUMENT. (90) Owen used his arms to throw the foul ball that killed Tabitha. He amputated the armadillo s claws to show John and Dan that when they lost Tabitha, they both lost something important to them just as the claws of an armadillo were important to the animal. This quote also foreshadows how Owen dies, and how God put him on the Earth to fulfill a God given task. As the novel continues, John recalls a memory of Owen and him having a sleepover. Hydrodynamics, another subset of fluid dynamics, is very similar to aerodynamics and has similar laws. However, hydrodynamics shows the behavior of liquids instead of gasses. Reynolds Numbers, created by British scientist and engineer Osborne Reynolds, describe the way fluids behave against objects. Bernoulli s principle, discovered by Daniel Bernoulli, states that faster fluid flow creates lower pressure, and slower fluid flow creates higher pressure. There are 4 main forces, drag, lift, thrust and weight. Lift is the force that counters weight. It occurs when the pressure of the object below the object is greater than the pressure above it. The second force, thrust, counters drag. It propels the object in a given direction and can be provided by turbofans, turboprops, propfans, etc. on an airplane, but can also be provided for an arrow by the bowstring. Weight counters lift and varies with mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force of weight is. The last force, drag, counters thrust. The air particles stick to the object, creating friction and heat which slows the object. Drag occurs everywhere where there is a fluid, with almost (practically) no effect in space. With the four main forces, flight can occur. There are two types of flight, powered flight and coastal flight.
