Heteronormativity Research Paper
Heteronormativity is known as the belief that heterosexuality is the only normal and natural
expression of sexuality (Merriam Webster). While homosexuality is becoming more accepted in today
s society, heteronormativity is still a prominent issue in the media and life at home. There are various
opinions on heteronormativity, some believing that it is not an issue and others believing it is
alienating gay individuals. Although it does not affect the majority of households and individuals in
the U.S, a solution to heteronormativity would benefit LGBTQ individuals who feel isolated from the
rest of society. The concept of heteronormativity is one that few people actually take the time to think
about. Generally, the automatic assumed sexuality

The Characteristics Of Aborigines In The Secret River By...
In The Secret River, the emancipists that have been transported to Australia continuously mistreat and
disrespect the Aborigines, who are presented as the foundation of Australia. The Aborigines are forced
into hidden parts of Australia where they are massacred by poison they are tortured in a foreign way
by foreign people without cause. For over thousands of years, the Aborigines have lived in peace on
land that belonged to everybody, in a peaceful community. Grenville presents the Aborigines to be
strongly linked to nature. Grenville portrays the Aborigines as beautiful and empowered symbolised
by physical features. Oppositely the Aborigines are presented as vulnerable, animal like and Grenville
uses the novel to convey a message that the use of Australia as a penal colony has a negative effect on
the Aborigines and their culture. Throughout the novel, the Aborigines are presented as powerful
which is reflected in their very rigid facial features. Thornhill says the Aborigine s rock of his face
shaped itself around the big mouth, the imposing nose, the folds of his cheeks. . The adjectives big and
imposing emphasise the power and size of the face, Grenville conveys a message to the reader that the
Aborigine is extraordinary, she uses the to name the Aborigine s features instead of his which suggests
that the facial features are too substantial to belong to one person especially a person of lower status
than the emancipists. Grenville uses a metaphor, rock

Contribution Of The Montessori Method
Maria Montessori once stated, The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, The
children are now working as if I did not exist (Chattin McNichols, 1992). The end goal of a
Montessori classroom is to create independent and curious learners ready to take on any challenge
thrown their way. The Montessori Method differs from traditional school settings because learning is
child centered, meaning children create their own knowledge from experiences within a prepared
environment.
Who were the leaders?
Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy, brought about revolutionary ideas in regards to
Early Childhood Education because of how she understood how complex and advanced young minds
were. Dr. Montessori had two main strands of ideas that overall led to her development in the
Montessori Method. This includes the writings of the Swiss educators, Jean Jacques Rousseau and
Johann Pestalozzi, who wrote about the need of hands on experiences and the Scottish businessman,
Robert Owen, who insisted that the social environment contributed to children s knowledge (Bloom,
2004). Shortly after graduation, Dr. Montessori was placed into a psychiatric clinic where she would
visit with people living inside of an insane asylum. Inside of this asylum she observed children living
alongside their parents. The children were considered to be feebleminded because they played with
bread crumbs found on the floor. However, Montessori came to the conclusion of, these

Chicano School Failure Essay
The worst three plights that are discussed in Valencia s Chicano School Failure and Success are
language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction, and Chicano teaching force. Valencia
discusses how Chicano students have experienced persistent and persuasive language suppression and
cultural exclusion in the public school system (8). These laws and policies were instated, with one
purpose, to ensure the dominance of the English language and Anglo culture (Valencia 8). White
culture enforced this belief, that being bilingual and bicultural will create a threat to the dominant
white English speaking population. In addition, another adversity Chicano students faced is the limited
use of bilingual education (Valencia 9). In my own K 12 education, I saw ... Show more content on

The erasure of your bilingualism and biculturalism is something that should not be eradicated from
our brains, instead learning English should just be another tool added to our tool kit. In addition to
language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction is also something that needs to be improved.
As mentioned by Valencia, teachers tend to treat different types of students different (26). Teachers
tend to hold lower expectations for Chicanos, due to the stereotypical notion that Chicano students are
less intelligent than white students. With that thought seeded within an instructor s mind, the system is
already flawed from the beginning. Certain individuals even believe that there are undesirable traits
attributed with your race (Valencia 26). With teacher s racist beliefs, they will only further perpetuate
the stereotype that Chicano students do not remotely compare to white students. A Chicano teacher
force is also needed. Role models are important in any child s life, white or Chicano. It is important to
note that Chicano students need role models that look like them, so they can picture themselves in the

The Theatre Of The Lounge
Led by a group of actors into the theatre from the lounge, I saw a number of different theatrical
elements that were distinguished from other conventional theatre. The very first item that caught my
attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not be one of the first
objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the audience to hang their
coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the audience seats did not face the
stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on was veiled by black curtains, visually
creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not induce me to raise a question on where the
actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground,
encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any specially raised platform that highlighted any actor
s presence. Nor did I see any decorative set design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between,
which distinctly differentiated the acting region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the
ground that physically defined the stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so
close that I could easily step on it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the
play to start, the actors walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal
conversation. They all wore their casual clothing; if I did not

Cultural Dimensions of Theology An examination of Israelite theology goes beyond finding
similarities and differences, it should articulate the relationships which existed and clarify the cultural
context. Otherwise, the mere interpretation of text may lead to interpretation with a theological
significance based on our understanding. Scope of Comparative Study Academic attention in
comparative studies focused on either individual features or literary preservation of traditions.
Comparative research can be divided into three categories: 1) individual elements, 2) worldview
concepts, and 3) literary preservation. Conclusions Walton listed ten principles for performing

Lack of total control over business partners
Though Mattel has embarked on the Global manufacturing Principles (GMP) and regular social audits,
Mattel cannot intensively monitor the business processes and activities of its partners. There is no
guarantee that its business partners will completely comply with Mattel s corporate social
responsibility (CSR), ethical business conducts and product safety requirements. Mattel somehow
could be facing legal actions and criticisms from various stakeholders around the world.
Question Two: Comment on the strengths and weaknesses of Mattel s core brands (Barbie and
American Girl). In looking at Barbie specifically, has Mattel s success with the American Girl

example, which can be highlighted might be the invention of Champaign.
The experience of France as a quality wine producer going back to the middle ages can be regarded as
a source of competitive advantage. Another source is the strong wine culture in France creating a
positive image for customers. The wine industry by itself is a very important economic factor in
France, in the mid 18th century the wine industry accounted for 17% of the overall industry. As a

c. Advice to the French Minister of Agriculture
Help your producers sell their vine: provide more funds for marketing campaigns and fund workshops
on how they can identify their target group and do targeted, cost efficient marketing
4.
a. Australian Minister of Agriculture:
The labeling of wine according to regions in Australia has been already done but not with protection
by law. Tighten laws in relevance of how to label wines can be beneficial in the long run when it
comes to value creation, as can be successfully recognized in France.
Simultaneously, a financially subsidy should support wine yards with their surplus production hence
the successful long term strategy Directions to 2025 , which foresees value growth by 2015 and global
leadership on the wine market by 2025 might be eased. This is necessary since Australia will cannot
compete on price in the long term bringing to mind low cost production countries such as Chile.
b. Australian wine industry association
Align marketing activities with the plan of Direction to 2025 . Support the Australian s wine image
from cheap and cheerful into a classified and recognizable labeling scheme. It might be added that the
new scheme can be restructured in a way that it does not mix up psychographic targeting with regional
ones, since this might be confusing. The

Examples Of Teen Activism
We have all seen young people doing amazing things. They change the world and can inspire their
peers and even people twice their age. Have you ever wondered how they got started? Teen activism is
caused and is inspired through different means. Some teens were compelled to activism because of
inspiration from a parent. Others became active based on observation of an issue and its impact on
others and the world. Some teens became leaders because they were directly affected by an issue.
There are numerous examples of teen activists to illustrate how their activism originated.
The first reason that teen activism is initiated is when a parent is closely involved. This is
demonstrated by global education activist Malala Yousafzi and her father from Pakistan. Her father s
profession as a teacher clearly brought her to realize what a good education can do for any individual.
Moreover, Malala s father is quoted saying, People ask me, what (is) special in my mentorship which
has made Malala so bold and so courageous and so vocal and poised? I tell them, don t ask me what I
did. Ask me what I did not do. I did not clip her wings, and that s all. Thus, Malala demonstrates
activism facilitated by a parent. Her father consistently motivated Malala ... Show more content on

Charles Darwin s The Things They Carried Some Of The...
The central idea around Charles Darwin s theory is that species must evolve to be more effective while
those that do not are left behind. One such human evolution is that of making certain tasks easier.
While either from a physical standpoint such as lifting a heavy weight with one s legs or back as
oppose to just using their less powerful arms, or from a mental standpoint like making a smaller deal
out of something that should mean more. While the first example is a generally healthy one, the latter
is a dangerous way of coping with hard truths. In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried some of the
soldiers constantly try to quantify items brought from war to make the brutality of it less heinous in
their minds. O Brien illustrates this image to make readers aware of their own taking the easy way out
of situations that sometimes would be better faced head on in reality. To protect against the literal
destruction of war, Lieutenant Cross uses numbers to disassociate himself from the barbarities he is
committing and witnessing. O Brien exhibits the image of Lieutenant Cross counting the literal
weights of items in the first short story, The Things They Carried . Cross says, The weapon weighed
7.5 pounds unloaded, 8.2 pounds with its full 20 round magazine. Depending on numerous factors,
such as topography and psychology, the riflemen carried anywhere from 12 to 20 magazines, usually

The Roles Of Compressions In The Epic Of Beowulf
The oral culture of the Anglo Saxons was the only way tales of their history were passed down
through generations. Throughout the epic poem of Beowulf, digressions are presented through the
concept of giving advice or remembrance to their ancestors. The digressions within the epic poem are
at times ambiguous. However, they play a large role in the underlying perception for the character s
actions. The digression that illustrates the story of King Finn was implemented to uncover the
uncertainly of Hrothgar s Queen, Wealhtheow.
Though Beowulf was a mighty hero and savior for Heorot and the Danes, he was not one of their own.

Just as King Finn did with the Danes every day at the dole out of gifts Finn, son of Focwald, should
honor the Danes, bestow with and even hand to Hengest and Hengest s men the wrought gold rings,

be the law of the land for a murder, the Danes still attached and retaliated against the Frisians during
King Finn s rein. Weahtheow was submerged past the initial message of the digression. She spoke
highly of Beowulf, though she was implying that she was not willing to trust someone that was not a
part of the Danes to have inheritance form Hrothgar. The queen s swift reaction to the narrative of
Finn was an obvious indicator that she was not willing to risk her husband, children, and community
by giving Beowulf family rights.]]
Grateful everyone was, however, they all new retribution and vengeance was at the core of their
people s value system. Although Beowulf accepted the wergeld; the fallen victim s family may not
accept this and come to seek revenge on Hrothgar. During the age of the Anglo Saxon s the blame had
to be placed on someone so their grief debt would be paid. During Weahtheow s epiphany she was

Even though the song was about death and depression, the Rolling Stones made it a great rock song
that showed their creativity and that they were an unpredictable group who could grow with the time
era. Paint It, Black by the Rolling Stone was a song in which the they did experiments of sounds on.
The song s form is not like a traditional song outline. It goes by the song form of Chorus/Verse
1/Verse 2/Bridge/Chorus/Outro. The instruments used in this song are 2 guitars, drums, tambourines,
and a sitar. Sitar is an Indian string instrument that is like a guitar. The addition of the sitar in this song
made was what made it an experimental song. When I listened to this song, in the beginning, I heard
the sitar playing solo before any words were sung. Then the drums come in with this nice upbeat
rhythm and tempo that made it more of a rock song. In addition, every time when Mick Jagger, said
painted black in this song, he adds this emphasis to the word black of saying it for a longer duration
than other words. This helped create that dark mood of the song and added an extra texture to the
song. Towards the end of the song like the outro part before the instrumental, there was this short
piece of the sitar playing and it helped create this creepy but unique sound. Then it was

Analysis Of The Darkness By Lord Byron
The Darkness is a poem written by Lord Byron in 1816, around the Romantic period. Byron has stated
that the poem was inspired by the events of Mount Tambora, which was a volcano that erupted in the
Dutch East indies that caused surreal weather phenomenon s, such as inexplicable darkness and cold
temperatures in Geneva, where Byron was at the time, and eventually where he wrote the poem. This
event caused many authors to suspect that this eruption, and the following weather events, was a sign
that linked to the biblical apocalypse.
The poem begins with the narrator s describing the poem as a dream that was not at all a dream ,
which already causes doubt and tension within the reader. The narrator then goes on to talk about ...

The birds flew, flapping their useless wings as they hit the ground, dead. Wild beasts are becoming
timid, from fright, and poisonous snakes were becoming stingless . These animals are becoming food
for the men, who are now, desperately, becoming savage scavengers. However, the animal food supply
doesn t last long, and the men start turning on themselves. Humans were now capable of cannibalism,
as survival becomes the only consistent goal: men dies ... their bones were tombless as their flesh .
This is exaggerated even more as once faithful dogs have turned on their masters, devouring their
flesh and sparing nothing. All except one dog, who kept the birds and beasts and famish d men at bay
from his master s corpse, not letting any scavengers touch them, until the dog succumbs to starvation
and dies. This symbolises the demise of any last moral emotion that the world had left.
Soon the world, except two men, is dead from the famine. The men are, in some way, enemies as they
still have the natural instinct of survival left in them. However, they pitifully approach the embers of a
nearly extinct fire for more light, where the fire blazes and they get a glimpse of their starving
features. Upon seeing each other s horrendous, deathly faces, they shriek d in consternation, and died,
thus ending the human race.
With mankind extinct, the earth becomes a lifeless lump of death . Seasons and wildlife, lakes and
oceans are all concepts that no

Walker s Controversy
Walker appreciates the dangers of the American/Soviet rivalry. He acknowledges its devastating
impact on Europe as the last and greatest of Europe s civil wars. Yet he also calls the Cold War a in the
end, a resilient and predictable system for the preservation of human civilization. Unlike some recent
commentators, he does not dismiss the Cold War as some kind of colossal mistake that one side or the
other should have been prudent enough to avoid. The Soviet Union s collapse, he argues, seems
inevitable only in retrospect, and the West s fears of Soviet tyranny and expansion were not
unfounded. Throughout his study, Walker never loses sight of the fact that although the Soviet Union
and the West represented opposing ideologies, they employed ... Show more content on

THE END OF HISTORY AND THE LAST MAN is the author s response. His thesis is simple. The
failure of communism and the disappearance of the Soviet Union has resulted in the victory of liberal
democracy and capitalism. There are, he claims, no more challengers. Security and freedom have been
achieved, and consequently, history has ended.
THE END OF HISTORY AND THE LAST MAN ignores the confusing events and details of most
history and is more philosophical, even teleological, in its orientation. The author states that only
liberal democracy and the market economy have satisfactorily provided what Plato claimed to be
necessary for happiness: the appetitive (food and sex), the reasoning (knowledge and truth), and the
need to be recognized as human. Hegel s concept of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis explained the
process of history, with liberal democracy as the final synthesis according to Fukuyama. Marx, like
Hegel, saw the world in a clash of evolving opposites, but while Marx predicted that the triumph of
communism would lead to the withering away of the state, Fukuyama instead argues that with the
victory of liberal democracy it is history that has

Ragtime And Jazz Concert Report
Last night, I treated myself to an outstanding performance by Devan Jones and The Uptown Stomp.
The band s primary sound is Swinging Blues, Ragtime Jazz from the 1930s through the 1950s. I was
amazed that not only was the music vintage, their equipment was also. The band is comprised of
young, group of musicians from in and around Knoxville, TN. The members consisted of bassist Clint
Mullican, drummer Hunter Deacon and tenor / baritone saxophonist Chuck Mullican, pianist Keith

Swing was bounded by two events. The first was the Great Depression, which started in 1929 and
deepened into the 1930s. Swing, like other popular culture forms, acted as a counterstatement to the
deep anxiety caused by the Depression. But swing also demanded action in the form of exuberant and
partly improvised dance. Moreover, it was teenagers music, perhaps the first of its kind. World War II
was the second major event. After four years of fighting and devoting the nation s manpower and
production capabilities to the war, the country demilitarized, and as servicemen and women returned
home, the dancing culture flared, and with it the economic basis for swing.
In summary, the band played several different songs that I was familiar with even though I will admit,
this was my first ever swing music concert. Their music crawls up under your skin and makes you

Online Journalism and the New Media; Implications for...
INTRODUCTION The new media announces a new period of media development in the world over,
it is the one that preaches the significance of new communications technologies. The new media is not
just a kind of information technology but also part and parcel of the social being of man in this
modern society. At the threshold of this fairly new millennium (2000 A.D.), there was a sporadic turn

THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE To best understand the thematic preoccupation of this work, the
concept of critical mass theory as it applies to the adoption of a new communication technology is
desirable and would be used. The term comes from physics, where critical mass refers to the minimum
amount of material needed to trigger and sustain a radioactive chain reaction. The term has been
loosely applied to communication and refers to the minimum number of people needed as adopters
before a new communication technology can have a permanent place in the society Kaye and Medoff,
2001. Williams, Strover and Grant (1994) corroborate
An interesting aspect of the critical mass perspective is that widespread use appears to have a
snowball effect. Once a perceived critical mass is using the technology, those without it are strongly
motivated to adopt it. The reasoning here is that despite the drawbacks, such as cost or difficulty in
using the technology, people (and institutions) are pressured to adopt the technology because failure to
do so may exclude them from existing communication networks. Markus (1987), while making a case
for the adoption of interactive communication technologies, suggested three propositions in the
adoption process as cited in Kaye and Medoff (2001). First, the adoption and use of technology is an

Escapism In The Song Imagine It By MKTO
The world flight world view is about escapism. It s about how we need to leave this world behind to

here would be if we could change this or that they believe they can fix what is here on earth. The
world flight world view believes that to reach what we are really meant for we have to leave this
world behind and that the closes we can get to that perfection would be through a daydream. So in the
song Imagine It by MKTO. We hear about this amazing place but it all comes back to the title that we
can only imagine it. One of my favorite lines is Somewhere off in outer space There s a world, no

each other s eyes Let alone at the stars One day, wonder where the time goes Zombies waking up
when the bomb drops Too many hearts stop beating when no heart stops Can t wait for the world to
change That s like waiting for the end of days. I really believe that the part that says a grip on an
iPhone never looking into each other s eyes let alone at the stars wondering where the time goes
because it is a very true statement of how being here with these worldly objects such as I phones takes
away from all the beautiful things in the world like the stars and the love in another person s eyes. It
says that even if we wanted to we can only imagine how it would feel to have that kind of a

Tea Plantation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh produces and exports a large quantity of high quality tea. Most of the tea plantations are
situated in the northeastern areas of the country, around Sylhet and Srimongal. Sylhet is situated close
to Bangladesh s border with the Indian states of Meghalaya and Assam. This part of the country is
covered by hillocks rising to moderate heights. The rainfall is higher than average, a fact which British
tea planters realised in the 18th century to the advantage of tea cultivation. These conditions have
provided rich tropical forests with many species of wildlife, scented orange groves and pineapple
plantations. It is also the home of Khashia and Monipuri tribals.
The waterfalls of Madhab Kunda are another very picturesque place to visit. Jafflong, where the river
runs along the border between Bangladesh and India is especially beautiful. On the way there are
number of haors or marshy wetlands, which are natural, depressed swamps holding water almost the
whole year round. They are home to many fish and thousands of local and migratory birds.

Sns s Effect On Adolescence Essay
Having developed only a few years ago, SNS have had the most effect on adolescence. Adolescence

How I Learned A Great Deal About My Country s Culture
Even though I was born and lived in Jamaica for the first seven years of my life I have been somewhat

s culture through another s encounters and observations. Not only did I learn about my country but I
gained new knowledge about my mother and her experiences as well. Her name is Kayla and she was
born in Kingston, Jamaica. She began by introducing her culture s background. Jamaica, originally
settled on by Taino settlers, was named Xaymaca meaning land of wood and water. The slaves brought
over to the land were of course from Africa which is why we have adopted many of their customs of
which I will elaborate later. As she shared with me her experiences she also expounded on the norm of
such things in Jamaican culture. As a child in her free time, Kayla loved to play with her brothers. She
climbed trees, played marbles and basically did whatever they did and although she was a tomboy she
always had fun. It is very common in Jamaica for children to be seen playing outside at all times of the
day. Neighborhood children come together and play games such brown girl in the ring, Dandy Shandy
(dodge ball), What can you do Puncienella likkle fella, cricket, Simon says, stucky freezy stucky

Remember when last time you have pointed out someone s mistake or critisezed, what was the

hundreds if not thousands of reasons why he is not wrong,
I will tell you more than that, ninety nine times out of a hundred, people don t criticize themselves for
anything, no matter how wrong it may be. You can go to a drug deal or thiefs and tell them that what
they are doing is wrong and turst me, they will give tons of reasons why they are rgitht (that s of if

American Atheism and Why it Exists
Atheism is disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods, they reject religion as apart of
not only a rejection of ignorance, but also a rejection of their religious family and association of
religion itself, says Catherine L. and Caldwell Harris who are published in the Department of
Psychology for Boston University, Lesley College,University of Haifa, and Trinity College. This is a
stark contrast to theism, which is the belief in god and is the case for many Americans. This
demographic is about 83% of America s population, according to the most recent census. About 16%

saying that college opened their eyes or that there was a person in the sky watching them but also how
patriarchal the church is and its obsession with obedience and punishment. This shows a trend in why
most left religion. One is that it didn t make sense nor does it work with science, or they did liked how

Importance Of Ethical Issues In Marketing
1. Why do you think marketing is an area that is involved with so many ethical issues? Provide atleast
2 reasons to support your answer.
Marketing is an area that affects the companies greatly. Marketing can change how people see a brand,
it can create a positive or negative perspective of the brand that is why marketers need to be careful
how they launch new advertisements and promotions. Many thinks that marketing has a big deal with
ethical issues which most of the companies try to get rid of these problems because they would like to
be more transparent and more appealing to the customers, but this is not the case for all the companies
because as we can see when we check the internet we get bombarded with a lot of advertisements that
we do not even have an interest on them. However, many researchers found ethical issues with
marketing, one area that researches found the greatest problem is when marketers survey people to
find if they are interested with the brand or their products. Akaah and colleagues state on their
research, In an effort to meet the client s need for accurate and reliable data, a researcher might be less
than candid with respondents about the intent of a research study in order to avoid biasing their
responses.
Furthermore, I believe that marketing is an area involved in many ethical issues because marketers
must satisfy customers, and they also need to find a way to approach the people that they are
surveying with care if they want to get the right

3.1 RESEARCH PHILOSOPHY
3.1.1 RESEARCH PARADIGM
A research paradigm can be described as a framework which philosophically pilots the way scientific
research should be implemented. However, Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus (1997), defined the term
philosophy as the obtaining truth and knowledge though the use of reason and argument . There are
two major types of paradigms described by Collins and Hussey (2009).
Positivist Research: These research paradigm is based on the hypothesis that fact is objective and
singular and altered by the act of fact finding. Under this type of research method, the basis of
clarification is supplied by theories, allows anticipation and also allows them to be controlled (Collins
and Hussey, (2009). Presently, business research conducted by researchers under a

  • 3. The Characteristics Of Aborigines In The Secret River By... In The Secret River, the emancipists that have been transported to Australia continuously mistreat and disrespect the Aborigines, who are presented as the foundation of Australia. The Aborigines are forced into hidden parts of Australia where they are massacred by poison they are tortured in a foreign way by foreign people without cause. For over thousands of years, the Aborigines have lived in peace on land that belonged to everybody, in a peaceful community. Grenville presents the Aborigines to be strongly linked to nature. Grenville portrays the Aborigines as beautiful and empowered symbolised by physical features. Oppositely the Aborigines are presented as vulnerable, animal like and Grenville uses the novel to convey a message that the use of Australia as a penal colony has a negative effect on the Aborigines and their culture. Throughout the novel, the Aborigines are presented as powerful which is reflected in their very rigid facial features. Thornhill says the Aborigine s rock of his face shaped itself around the big mouth, the imposing nose, the folds of his cheeks. . The adjectives big and imposing emphasise the power and size of the face, Grenville conveys a message to the reader that the Aborigine is extraordinary, she uses the to name the Aborigine s features instead of his which suggests that the facial features are too substantial to belong to one person especially a person of lower status than the emancipists. Grenville uses a metaphor, rock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Chicano School Failure Essay The worst three plights that are discussed in Valencia s Chicano School Failure and Success are language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction, and Chicano teaching force. Valencia discusses how Chicano students have experienced persistent and persuasive language suppression and cultural exclusion in the public school system (8). These laws and policies were instated, with one purpose, to ensure the dominance of the English language and Anglo culture (Valencia 8). White culture enforced this belief, that being bilingual and bicultural will create a threat to the dominant white English speaking population. In addition, another adversity Chicano students faced is the limited use of bilingual education (Valencia 9). In my own K 12 education, I saw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The erasure of your bilingualism and biculturalism is something that should not be eradicated from our brains, instead learning English should just be another tool added to our tool kit. In addition to language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction is also something that needs to be improved. As mentioned by Valencia, teachers tend to treat different types of students different (26). Teachers tend to hold lower expectations for Chicanos, due to the stereotypical notion that Chicano students are less intelligent than white students. With that thought seeded within an instructor s mind, the system is already flawed from the beginning. Certain individuals even believe that there are undesirable traits attributed with your race (Valencia 26). With teacher s racist beliefs, they will only further perpetuate the stereotype that Chicano students do not remotely compare to white students. A Chicano teacher force is also needed. Role models are important in any child s life, white or Chicano. It is important to note that Chicano students need role models that look like them, so they can picture themselves in the near ... • 11. The Theatre Of The Lounge Led by a group of actors into the theatre from the lounge, I saw a number of different theatrical elements that were distinguished from other conventional theatre. The very first item that caught my attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not be one of the first objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the audience to hang their coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the audience seats did not face the stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on was veiled by black curtains, visually creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not induce me to raise a question on where the actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground, encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any specially raised platform that highlighted any actor s presence. Nor did I see any decorative set design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between, which distinctly differentiated the acting region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the ground that physically defined the stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so close that I could easily step on it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the play to start, the actors walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal conversation. Have you ever wondered how they got started? Teen activism is caused and is inspired through different means. Some teens were compelled to activism because of inspiration from a parent. Others became active based on observation of an issue and its impact on others and the world. Some teens became leaders because they were directly affected by an issue. There are numerous examples of teen activists to illustrate how their activism originated. The first reason that teen activism is initiated is when a parent is closely involved. This is demonstrated by global education activist Malala Yousafzi and her father from Pakistan. Dominick 2005: 312 THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE To best understand the thematic preoccupation of this work, the concept of critical mass theory as it applies to the adoption of a new communication technology is desirable and would be used. The term comes from physics, where critical mass refers to the minimum amount of material needed to trigger and sustain a radioactive chain reaction. The term has been loosely applied to communication and refers to the minimum number of people needed as adopters before a new communication technology can have a permanent place in the society Kaye and Medoff, 2001. Williams, Strover and Grant (1994) corroborate An interesting aspect of the critical mass perspective is that widespread use appears to have a snowball effect. Once a perceived critical mass is using the technology, those without it are strongly motivated to adopt it. The reasoning here is that despite the drawbacks, such as cost or difficulty in using the technology, people (and institutions) are pressured to adopt the technology because failure to do so may exclude them from existing communication networks. Markus (1987), while making a case for the adoption of interactive communication technologies, suggested three propositions in the adoption process as cited in Kaye and Medoff (2001). First, the adoption and use of technology is an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Theory Assignment Analysis All of a sudden, I found myself thinking sociologically when I found out that we had an essay due this week. As I was thinking I became startled. Why was I startled, well it was because I had nothing to write about. I did some heavy thinking but my mind kept coming up blink on what to write about. I asked my friends from class if they knew what they would write about and they all yes. This made me more nervous because if it was easy for them to have ideas to write about then it should be easy for me too. I decided to go through my notes hoping something would spark my imagination. While I was doing this I remembered that we had done an assignment called discussing theory and from this I remembered that when I was doing the assignment I thought ... When it comes to the traditional authority I saw it as the habits that have been set and that can be passed down generation to generation like royalty passing down the down to keep it in the family. With charismatic authority is when one person is believed to be divine and that they are receiving instructions from someone greater than man. The last one is rational legal authority. This what we have as of today where we follow written laws that have guidelines that we have to follow. It is widely accepted by a lot of people. • 32. Escapism In The Song Imagine It By MKTO The world flight world view is about escapism. It s about how we need to leave this world behind to get to our ultimate form. Nowadays we see more and more people discussing how much better life here would be if we could change this or that they believe they can fix what is here on earth. The world flight world view believes that to reach what we are really meant for we have to leave this world behind and that the closes we can get to that perfection would be through a daydream. So in the song Imagine It by MKTO. We hear about this amazing place but it all comes back to the title that we can only imagine it. One of my favorite lines is Somewhere off in outer space There s a world, no wars, no hate Where all the broken hearts are safe I don t know where it is I just imagine it . In the song we also hear this part that talks about how I live in a world that s in pain You too where the streets have no name Cause a untreated vet with a mental defect Is about to get a Glock, that s insane Man, we sit the brink with a drink in a hand And the other with a grip on an iPhone Never looking in each other s eyes Let alone at the stars One day, wonder where the time goes Zombies waking up when the bomb drops Too many hearts stop beating when no heart stops Can t wait for the world to change That s like waiting for the end of days. I really believe that the part that says a grip on an iPhone never looking into each other s eyes let alone at the stars wondering where the time goes because it is a very true statement of how being here with these worldly objects such as I phones takes away from all the beautiful things in the world like the stars and the love in another person s eyes. How I Learned A Great Deal About My Country s Culture Even though I was born and lived in Jamaica for the first seven years of my life I have been somewhat ignorant to its culture and because of this assignment I was able to learn a great deal about my country s culture through another s encounters and observations. Not only did I learn about my country but I gained new knowledge about my mother and her experiences as well. Her name is Kayla and she was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She began by introducing her culture s background. Jamaica, originally settled on by Taino settlers, was named Xaymaca meaning land of wood and water. The slaves brought over to the land were of course from Africa which is why we have adopted many of their customs of which I will elaborate later. As she shared with me her experiences she also expounded on the norm of such things in Jamaican culture. As a child in her free time, Kayla loved to play with her brothers. She climbed trees, played marbles and basically did whatever they did and although she was a tomboy she always had fun. It is very common in Jamaica for children to be seen playing outside at all times of the day. Neighborhood children come together and play games such brown girl in the ring, Dandy Shandy (dodge ball), What can you do Puncienella likkle fella, cricket, Simon says, stucky freezy stucky ketchy (freeze tag), and mother may I. The names may be different but the concepts of the games are very similar to ones played around the world. From her childhood she also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You can go to a drug deal or thiefs and tell them that what they are doing is wrong and turst me, they will give tons of reasons why they are rgitht (that s of if they talk to you, and not kill you) Because Criticism is futile, it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Research Paper On American Atheism American Atheism and Why it Exists Atheism is disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods, they reject religion as apart of not only a rejection of ignorance, but also a rejection of their religious family and association of religion itself, says Catherine L. and Caldwell Harris who are published in the Department of Psychology for Boston University, Lesley College,University of Haifa, and Trinity College. This is a stark contrast to theism, which is the belief in god and is the case for many Americans. This demographic is about 83% of America s population, according to the most recent census. • 38. Importance Of Ethical Issues In Marketing 1. Why do you think marketing is an area that is involved with so many ethical issues? Provide atleast 2 reasons to support your answer. Marketing is an area that affects the companies greatly. Marketing can change how people see a brand, it can create a positive or negative perspective of the brand that is why marketers need to be careful how they launch new advertisements and promotions. Many thinks that marketing has a big deal with ethical issues which most of the companies try to get rid of these problems because they would like to be more transparent and more appealing to the customers, but this is not the case for all the companies because as we can see when we check the internet we get bombarded with a lot of advertisements that we do not even have an interest on them. However, many researchers found ethical issues with marketing, one area that researches found the greatest problem is when marketers survey people to find if they are interested with the brand or their products. Akaah and colleagues state on their research, In an effort to meet the client s need for accurate and reliable data, a researcher might be less than candid with respondents about the intent of a research study in order to avoid biasing their responses. Furthermore, I believe that marketing is an area involved in many ethical issues because marketers must satisfy customers, and they also need to find a way to approach the people that they are surveying with care if they want to get the right ... There will also be an explanation on the rationale for selection. Also in this chapter, I will explain comprehensively the merits and demerits of the method chosen and highlight various ways which this dissertation will be undertaken alongside the referencing to enhance validity and reliability. The approach of the research and the paradigm of the research will be briefly explained and the various data source will be identified. 3.1 RESEARCH PHILOSOPHY 3.1.1 RESEARCH PARADIGM A research paradigm can be described as a framework which philosophically pilots the way scientific research should be implemented. However, Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus (1997), defined the term philosophy as the obtaining truth and knowledge though the use of reason and argument . There are two major types of paradigms described by Collins and Hussey (2009). Positivist Research: These research paradigm is based on the hypothesis that fact is objective and singular and altered by the act of fact finding. Under this type of research method, the basis of clarification is supplied by theories, allows anticipation and also allows them to be controlled (Collins and Hussey, (2009). Presently, business research conducted by researchers under a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
