Detrusor sphincter dyssynergia (DSD) is a condition where there is impaired coordination between the detrusor and sphincter muscles during urination. It is commonly seen in patients with spinal cord injuries or multiple sclerosis. DSD can be diagnosed using electromyography, voiding cystourethrogram, or urethral pressure profilometry which show involuntary contractions of the sphincter muscles during bladder emptying. Treatment involves medications, injections of botulinum toxin, or surgeries to help relax the sphincter and allow coordinated voiding.
