Matthew Leyson from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure presented on driverless cars. Driverless cars are being tested now and are expected to become common and affordable by 2025, with 90% of vehicle sales being driverless by 2055. South Australia aims to be a global leader in driverless car research, hosting conferences and trials. Driverless cars could provide economic and safety benefits, reducing traffic and saving over $5 trillion annually globally. However, challenges remain regarding legislation, liability, security and technology.
