The Republic by Plato Essay
The Republic by Plato
At the beginning of Book I, we are introduced to the narrator, Socrates, and his audience of peers. We
are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of
Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and
modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s
unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the
ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in
by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he
knows. And second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who
knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other
than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a
philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual
exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation
toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints.
The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled
justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment.
He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his
own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then
successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the
best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his
crew.
Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and
benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. Again, through a series of
examples, Socrates prevails the unjust man s pride and ambition are shown to be weaknesses,

Flawed News And Public Opinions Essay
Flawed News and Public Opinions
TV Journalism has been degraded to the point in which true factual and informative reporting free of
bias has been replaced with short news bytes centered and focused on its entertainment value alone.
Within the political process, this has mostly served as a disservice to both politicians and the general
public audience.
Edward J Epstein published a book entitled News from Nowhere in which he observed NBC s news
department and how decisions were made on what was news worthy. He discovered a decline in
television network ratings and profits caused executives to change marketing strategies. This new
direction in news reporting would be tailored to an audience low in sophistication with the network
defining what would be newsworthy. Epstein wrote: Dull and complicated stories would need to be of
enormous importance to get on the air: but relatively trivial stories would make the cut if interesting
enough . (Edwards, p. 406). Supporting this observation Washington Post editors Leonard Downie Jr
and Robert Kaiser argue that Entertainment has pushed out information in the TV news business and
that the history of TV news can be summarized in a couple sentences . (Edwards, p. 406). An
exception to this practice would be networks assigning their best reporters to cover major events or
Lead Stories at well established sources such as the White House, Congress, or the Pentagon. During

Panic Of 1893 Research Paper
Panic Brian Populists
The significance of this triad is that they all relate to the unlimited coinage of silver in order to balance
the economy during The Depression of 1893, which was overall unsuccessful because William
McKinley (pro gold) won the election in 1896 and President Grover Cleveland made gold the main
money supply of the nation. The panic of 1893 was the worst depression up to that point in the U.S.
Thousands of workers lost their jobs, the economy was falling, and European investors were claiming
funds. President Grover Cleveland made things worse when he made gold the nation s money supply
and repealed the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. If Cleveland had supported silver currency, the
nation could have had more money

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis

Raw Human Nature
In the novel Lord of The Flies by William Golding, a plane crashes on an island and a group of young
English boys are forced to fend for themselves as well as each other in hope of rescue. In this novel
Golding makes several comments on the tendencies of man when in the absence of a social structure.
Throughout the book, Golding tells the reader about human nature. When humans completely give in
to human nature, chaos erupts. Through the use of the fire, the beast, and Piggy s glasses William
Golding shows how human nature slowly pulls away from civilization when there is no social
structure.
One way that Golding conveys his message about human nature is with the fire and its smoke. In a
sense, the fire is an indicator of the civilization level of the boys. Towards the beginning of the story,
Ralph works very hard at keeping up the fire. The other boys help him because they want to be
rescued as well. They want the fire to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning of the novel it s obvious that Piggy s glasses are important. They are a
symbol of power. Piggy s glasses hold within them the power of fire. Power is something craved by
most people on the island, especially Jack. This craving is due to the tendencies of human nature.
Ralph uses Piggy s specs so he can make his signal fires, but when Jack breaks away and forms his
own tribe. He steals Piggy s glasses so he can have fire for cooking his meat. The spectacles have the
power to save them all from the island, such as Ralph s signal fires, or destroy them all, such as Jack
creating a forest fire in an attempt to kill Ralph. Ralph tries to use the spectacles to get rescued and
Jack tries to use the spectacles to kill Ralph and gain power. The craving for power drives both sides,
which is one of the main tendencies of human nature that Golding talks

Essay about Policies and Politics in Madagascar
Madagascar is among the countries that are termed as least developed in the world today (United
Nations, 2001). The implementation of trade agreement based on agriculture sector led to sluggishness
in the various market dynamics of the available grains. In addition to this, the quantity of grains was
declining and as a consequence of this, the revenues generated declined at an alarming rate. The
country was therefore obliged to opt for food import. This step was taken as a result of reduction in
the amount of aid granted to the government, and subsequent subsidization of exports. Since
Madagascar could not afford to offer export subsidization, the country s exports were highly affected
by the established policies such as non tariff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The common people were involved in the actual digging of the gem. However, they just received
peanuts from the sale of the stones, while the wealthy would gain enormous cash from the sale of the
same. This was attributed to the fact that, the wealthy had all the necessary connections to
international markets. Despite this, the mining of gem was characterized by myriad negative effects to
the local environment. However, attempts from various non governmental organizations (NGOs) and
donors to challenge the same, were completely blocked by the shadow state that had a very great
influence in Madagascar. Moreover, the mining act is practiced in selected and secured areas thus
limiting the efforts of various national and related international agencies to protect or conserve the
immediate surroundings. On the other side, the potential grounds for gem mining are located in the
secured government areas, and the rainforest zones which are known to have an enormous degree of
biodiversity. Thus many NGOs find it cumbersome to advocate for ecotourism and national parks.
This is attributed to the fact that NGOs are not able to prove to the Government, potential donors, and
various available private business that ecotourism earns more revenue which is sustainable than
carrying out gem mining in the area. The inherent gem mining in the area has resulted to an
overwhelming cultural as well as political impact in the vicinity of the local areas. This

Children Are At Home Learning Languages Essay
In different regions around the world, young children are at home learning languages that differ from
the prevailing language used in their extensive social world. When they arrive at school, these children
has a different precious resource; there mother tongue often referred to as L1. Typically, when
indigenous and minority language speaking students begin school, they are forced to learn a language
of the majority group in order to fit in socially and succeed in their academics. In a majority of
schools, these children are thought exclusively in the second language, which is most often English.
Although the L1 language is exceedingly common, a majority of school curriculums and programs
completely disregard and fail to support the minority language. Moreover, a majority of language
policies that inform these programs places no value on the knowledge and cultural backgrounds
associated with the linguistic diversity of the dialect children. Research as shown that persistent low
academic achievement and early school dropouts are common among these minority children and
partly stem from this dialect insensitive education policies. There is need to recognize that children
from diverse cultural backgrounds speak in different dialects and, therefore, there is a necessity to
enhance learning for such children while adhering and respecting their cultural diversity (Ball, 2010).
This research work thus tries to raise awareness on the need to maintain and promote cultural and

Maya Collapse
I. Introduction.
History of human is a long and mysterious journey to contemporary people to understand fully about
it. However, it can be described briefly that historical mankind has been mesmerized by the narrative
of progress and civilization as codified by the first great agrarian kingdoms (Scott 2011, p.2). By
replacing hunters gatherers and nomadic lifestyles with society of agriculture, people witnessed the
flourish of many early civilizations in Europe, Asia such as Mesopotamian civilization, Ancient Egypt,
Ancient Greece, China dynasties, etc. Besides those big and famous civilizations existed in Europe
and Asia, owning to the discovery of American continent of Christopher Columbus in 1492, one of the

2. Maya successful achievements.
Although Maya civilization shared many characteristic with other Mesoamerican civilizations due to
the high degree of interaction and cultural diffusion (Maya civilization, n.d.), it cannot be denied that
Maya was the most successful and advanced civilization with various accomplishments in art,
astronomy, architecture and writing system.
2.1. Art.
It is undeniable that Mayan art during the Classic era (from 250 AD to 900 AD) is of a high level of
aesthetic and artisanal sophistication (Maya civilization, n.d.). Approximately between 600 AD and
800 AD, Mayan art witnessed an ever seen era of Maya sculptures (Annequin 1978, p214) with many
masterpieces containing greatly aesthetic sense. At this time, as Annequin (1978, p.215) notified the
Maya appear to have held the void in horror, and they often crammed surfaces until the impression
was overwhelming ; this inspired Mayans to produced much more things such as masks, ceremonial
rods, earrings, armlets and mittens by inserting elaborately flamboyant feathers. Besides having talent
in producing art of relief, Mayans also were experts in stucco at Palenque and Comalco.

Adapting
Throughout life, people change a great deal. In many novels, the characters change, they usually have
no idea that they are changing. The characters usually change in different ways. Multiple characters
might change by being ruthless and blackhearted, and then at the end, they are a happy and cheery
character. White Fang and Buck have changed an amazing amount. For example Buck changed from
being a happy, lovable character, to answering the call of the wild. White Fang, went from being a
ruthless, wild beast to a lovable, domesticated character. People could build up confidence and change
without the world ending. White Fang is an amazing novel written by Jack London. The main
character, White Fang, is a ferocious, ruthless wolf. At first, he is not allowed to go towards the wall
of light and when he does, he finds the answers to every one of his curious wishes. He starts out as a
curious little pup, then proceeds to be a curious pup until he meets his first human. When he gets taken
back to camp, Kiche comes to his rescue, but they get taken in instead. He started hunting with his
mother at a young age, and therefore he learned things quicker. He progressed with his mental age of
course, throughout the novel, and had to become an adult dog at a young age to protect his mother and
himself. His attitude toward children from the Indian camp to the time he became a part of Weedon
Scott s family, he went through many changes. At Weedon Scott s house, he knew

Huntington s Disease ( Hd ) Essay
Huntington s disease (HD) is a late onset, usually between 35 and 50 years old, neurodegenerative
disorder prevalent in 3 7 per 100,000 people of European ancestry1. The disease, inherited in an
autosomal dominant pattern2, is characterized by motor disturbance, intellectual decline, and
psychiatric manifestations3. The disease is difficult to detect at an early stage of an individual s life
since its symptoms appear in the third to fifth decade of life. To better understand the disease,
investigations were done to identify the gene that is linked with the disease. The researchers in this
paper relied on the polymorphic protein markers or enzymes which they excluded in the 20% of the
genome. However, the lack of additional markers made it impossible to test the remaining part of the
genome.
With the use of recombinant DNA technology, the study aimed to use the restriction fragment length
polymorphisms (RFLPs) as DNA markers to determine linkage of the disease gene in large
multigenerational families. Two large families, with Huntington s disease, were used in the study.
Pedigrees of the American and Venezuelan families showing a clear autosomal dominant pattern of
inheritance of the disease were established. Family members having the disease were examined by an
experienced and knowledgeable neurologist to make sure that these individuals really possessed the
said disease. Blood samples from these individuals were collected and analyzed using 20 red blood
cell markers to

FINAL PAPER
Justification/recommendation
Change in management is sometimes necessary in some organizations. It could be based on an
organization not performing up to standards or moving mangers around to provide a fresh look on a
company and come up with different ideas that can benefit that particular location. When changing
over, a bad plan of action can negatively affect an organization.
Due to the difficulties that arise when there is a change in management, there needs to be a effective
way for managers to adapt to their new work place. Success starts from the top and trickles down.
Employees look to their managers to guide them in the right direction.

Going about it this way would really help ease in to the transition of new managers and new
employees. Changing the management team is beneficial to compaines The staff will really feel like
the new managers made and effort to get to know each job and how it is done. Since things aren t done
the same way every where, spending a day with each department will be very effective. If done
correctly all team members will be able to comminucate effectiley which will provide a smooth
transiction for the change
Discuss pros, cons, cost Some good and some bad things may come about when doing this. The good
can be seen as getting to know the members in the different departments and developing a relationship
with them by working together. A bad thing that can come from this is they may feel like it is wasted
time. Because some managers may feel like they know all the different aspects so there isn t much
new or different to learn. Another bad situation that may arise is when there is a bad seed in the group
who is unwilling to accept the new change.
According to BrighthubPM.com:
There are, however, some disadvantages to the change management methodology that has more to do

Essay On The Trail Of Tears
Along the Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears played a part in what is known as the Manifest Destiny,
which was the expansion of the colonists to the west. Gold was found on the Cherokee land during the
Georgia Gold Rush. The greed that it created was one of the leading causes of the Trail of Tears where
thousands of Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their native lands (Cherokee.org). Little
did the Native Americans realize that the new nation that was going to be forming around them would
affect not only their lives but the lives of their descendants. Even though the Cherokee made efforts to
keep their land through the court system and even attempted to assimilate to the American way of life
it was to no avail. They tried to agree to treaties with the United States Government. Even though,
they were eventually forced to leave their lands. By forcing the Native Americans to abandon their
homes, robbing their lands, taking their freedom, and forcing them to adapt and to assimilate into a
new land and culture showed how vindictive President Andrew Jackson was regarding the Native
Americans. The Trail of Tears was an instance of the United States Government committing genocide
against the Native Americans
Until 1828, the federal government agreed that Cherokee had rights to their land, but when Andrew
Jackson was elected President, that all ended. Jackson refused to believe that the tribes were sovereign
and thus viewed Indian treaties, as an absurdity

2.3 Factors Affecting Accurate Demand Forecast
The operation of electricity system is strongly influenced by the accuracy of demand forecast as
economy and control of electric power system is quite sensitive to forecasting errors [44 45]. The four
important factors affecting load forecast are:
I. Weather conditions Electricity demand has a strong correlation to weather. To develop an efficient
and accurate demand forecasting model for electricity much effort has been put to find a relationship
between the weather and the demand of electricity. The change in comforts of customer due to change
in weather conditions resulting in usage of appliances likes air conditioner, space heater and water
heater. It also includes use of agricultural appliances for irrigation. The pattern of demand differs
greatly in the areas with large meteorological difference during summer and winter. Dry and wet
temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, sunshine and amount of precipitation
are common weather parameters that influence electricity demand. Among the weather variables listed
above, two composite weather variable functions, the cooling degree days and heating degree days are

Early European explorers noticed that the Native Americans had a system of communication through
sign language. According to H. Angel (2011), different tribes broke their individual language barriers
by using a universal system of signs. This was predominant in the plains regions where the different
tribes would gather to trade and hunt. During the gatherings, this universal system of signs was even
used to tell stories and hold ceremonies. This language was known as PISL (Plains Indian Sign

Farming was the way of life for the Indians. Indians had farmed almost all of their food products, with

Reflective Account on Communication Essay example
Reflective account on communication
This assignment is a reflective account on communicating with a patient who cannot communicate
verbally. To remain confidential I will call the patient, Patient A. I m going to discuss the importance
of non verbal communication within a healthcare setting. Patient A was a 63 year old lady suffering
from MND which resulted in her losing her speech.
This was my first shift back from having a few days off and I returned to work on a night shift. Patient
A was admitted to the hospice that day. She was admitted for general deterioration and she had tried to
maintain her independence up until breaking point. It was handed over she has aphasia.
Her inability to use her speech related muscles meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I explained why we were unable to swap mattresses, due to it being late at night and one not being
available but offered her a recliner chair instead. She accepted the offer, and appeared to be happy
with this.
Myself and a colleague transferred Patient A into the recliner, she was then able to get some sleep that
night in the recliner chair. This information was recorded on the patient s notes and handed over to the
day staff on the next morning.
I will now discuss how I was thinking and feeling during this event. I had been working at the hospice
for over a year and had looked after patients with MND before. I had an idea of how it can affect
communicating with the patient. I was apprehensive about approaching Patient A as I didn t know
what difficulties I may find whilst trying to communicate with her. She was able to communicate very
well using the pen and writing down, and using hand gestures. I learnt that by speaking clearly with
easy to answer questions we were able to communicate with each other effectively. Afterwards I felt
pleased that were able to determine the problem and find a solution for her, despite the communication
barriers.
Evaluation
I feel that the communicating between Patient A and myself worked well during this event. I noticed
that she was uncomfortable by her body language and I picked up quickly which method was best to

Lupus Informative Speech
Grace Spottswood, 1 30 15, Watermelon Lupus: Imagine skiing down the slopes and watching all of
the happy people enjoying their ski trip, and wondering, why do I feel so sick? Imagine going to
countless doctors appointments, and being treated for anxiety and facial migraines. No one believes
your symptoms are real, but you know something isn t right. After five years of suffering, you are
finally diagnosed with an incurable disease. Somehow you feel relief. This mystery disease is called
lupus, an autoimmune disease which makes the body unable to tell healthy tissue from unhealthy
tissue. The body then attacks the healthy tissue to get rid of what it believes is unhealthy tissue, this
mistake causes the body to inflict pain on itself. No new drug to treat lupus has been created in 50
years, yet 2 million people in America, and 5 million people worldwide are suffering from this disease
( Lupus: Causes, diagnosis, symptoms and treatment ). I believe that more research should be done to
eventually find a cure for lupus. Lupus has no known cause, which makes it so hard to treat. Doctors

Depending on your specific case of lupus, lifestyle changes just may be enough to control your
symptoms. Doctors suggest exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding smoking. If
lifestyle changes aren t helpful for your case of lupus, medicines can be prescribed by your doctor to
depress your symptoms. However no magic medicine will rid your body completely of this disease.
Today, a new drug called Belimumab is in a clinical trial to treat lupus. It needs the approval of the
FDA for release to the wide population of lupus patients. If this drug is approved, it will be the first
new drug on the market to treat lupus in fifty years. Hopefully, since some research on lupus is being
done, more medicines will be found, and more people

Historical Accuracy In The Film Ned Kelly, Directed By...
Ned Kelly (2003), directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Heath Ledger (Ned Kelly) and Orlando
Bloom, is the film interpretation of the legendary story of the Kelly gang. As this is a film, not a
documentary, it is only moderately historically accurate. The three key events in this story in which
Jordan has attempted to maintain the truth to a reasonable extent are the incident with Constable
Fitzpatrick, the shooting of Aaron Sherritt and the Glenrowan shootout. However, there is also one
major aspect of the film where Jordan has not endeavoured to uphold historical accuracy, and that is
Ned Kelly s love life. As the very purpose of a feature film is to entertain an audience, there is only a
limited potential to which historical accuracy can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In actuality, the shootout takes place after the Kelly gang take 60 hostages at the Glenrowan hotel.
When the police arrive, the outlaws put on their famous steel armour, and start shooting at the police.
During the shootout Ned is wounded in the foot, hand and arm and retreats into the bush, having
injured Superintendent Hare, the commander of the police proceedings that night. The other members
of the gang withdraw to the hotel where they are shot dead by police. Ned returns to Glenrowan at
dawn and is quickly brought down, but not killed, with shots to his unprotected legs. In the film,
however, it is made to look as though the Kelly gang bring down many officers in the fight for their
cause and also that Dan and Steve kill themselves before the police can get to them. This event is

The Importance Of Sexual Assault In Hollywood
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! For decades, Hollywood had been considered the place where dreams
come true. Women who wanted fame and money went into the entertainment industry to make their
dreams come true, getting money, and having fame e entertainment industry to make it happen, but at
what cost? Up and coming actresses did not expect their diginity and pride would be stripped from
them in just a matter of days, weeks, or months. Soon these actresses learned the horrifying truth
about Hollywood. Sexual assault ran Hollywood; that was the way to get the part and stay relevant.
Now they are starting to fight back. Recent revelations of pervasive sexual assault in Hollywood
illustrate that if actresses speak out about these incidents, change may result in women being treated
with dignity. Pervasive sexual assault in Hollywood is no secret. The casting couch has been used to
either make or break actresses careers since the 1920s. This unspoken taboo has been a part of the
stucture of what dreams are made of. Long before Weinstein there was Louis B. Mayer, who co
founded Metro Goldwyn Mayer studios in 1924. Mayer, the ground zero of this kind of abuse, had
means, motive, opportunity and that critical piece of the puzzle: the whip. If women didn t comply, he
d threaten to ruin their careers or those of their loved ones (Adams). This taboo is so vast in
Hollywood that no actress is immuned to these incidents. The victimization of powerful celebrities
shows that no woman

authority and confidence when he is coach regardless of he is black in the community, he divides both
the races of players to sit and sleep together at the camp no matter what race they are in which he
hopes that it would bring the players together. He wants them to be familiar and understand each other
as a team. On the other hand, Coah Yoast also uncovers insightful and accountability when it comes to
segregation, when his players run toward the black at the beginning of the movie, he runs a car ahead
of them to stop them from it and he is always politely taking to the black unlike his daughter. He

Coah Boone treats others with dignity as the coach of a team where there are both American and
African American players. He wants the players to feel friendly and comfortable being with each
other, therefore, he forces each player to make friend which a different race player and mixed players
as though there is no racism. This create an environment where players hated each others at the start
yet when they start to comprehend each other, they become friends. Coah Boone s daughter denies
others dignity when Bill Yoast s daughter invited her to play basketball with her. By doing this, she is
causing hatred and unfriendly environment with Bill Yoast s daughter in which can lead to racism
between two races.
Throughout the movie of Remember the Titans, the director portray a theme about friendship. He
reveals how with friendship, every person can overcome their strongest struggles like segregation and
racism at the time. In order to build friendship, one must get to know another similar to how the
African Americans and the Americans players get to know each other at the camp and at the games
that they played. For example, Gerry and Julius are strongly against each other at the beginning of the
movie yet when they play with each other, they understand each other better and found that they can
actually be friend and trusted each other in their actions. Moreover, the team also demonstrate a theme
of friendship due to the fact that

The brick road was dusty, The sky was clear, no clouds in sight, and the air felt so good. This was

The Masters Behind Teatro Olimpico Two men are responsible for the beautiful architecture that is the
Teatro Olimpico but neither of them worked on it at the same time. Both Andrea Palladio and his
successor Vincenzo Scamozzi contributed their own ideas to the theatre. It is fact that Palladio had his
hand in most of the design but it can be argued that the Teatro Olimpico would not be as it is today
without Scamozzi. Looking at the history before the Teatro Olimpico was built, it starts with a group
that was founded by Palladio himself, the Accademia Olimpica. The group was founded in 1555 and
focused on bringing classical theatre into the Renaissance. Palladio s contribution ... Show more

He was a lover of the Roman architecture and classical theatre. Palladio had illustrated Daniele
Barbaro s Italian translation of Vitruvius De architectura, which was a detailed work that explained
what theatre was like in the Roman Empire. It includes floorplans for Roman theatres and an elevation
for the scaenae frons of Vicenza s ruined Roman theatre, the Teatro Berga. The scaenae frons is the
elaborately decorated permanent architectural background of a Roman theatre stage. Normally there
are three entrances to the stage (Palmyra has five) including a grand central entrance, known as the
porta regia or royal door . The form may have been intended to resemble the facades of imperial
palaces.[1] The scaenae frons is often two and sometimes three stories in height and was central to the
theatre s visual impact for this was what was seen by a Roman audience at all times. Tiers or balconies
were supported by an exuberant display of columns, normally in the Corinthian order, often originally
including many statues in niches.[2] In smaller theatres it could support a permanent roof, enclosing
the whole theatre, and in larger ones awnings over the whole or parts of the theatre, perhaps secured to
masts rising above it, for which there is some evidence.[3]As well, Palladio s papers include plans for
the imagined reconstruction of the

The And Of The Basement
We decided to have Timmy open the door. That way, if the undead occupant of the basement was
actually at the top of the stairs, we would be, hopefully, able to bring one or both of our weapons to
bear. We hoped to push the zombie down the stairwell; and, if we were lucky, that would create the
necessary trauma to the brain area to cause permanent death. The needs of the many outweigh the
needs of the few, said Tim stoically with a knowing grin. Or the one, added Dean. I had no idea what
they were talking about. As the door swung out, we lunged into the breach. The stairs before us were
empty. We could hear muffled sounds from the kitchen. Here zombie, zombie, zombie... Dean called

The zombie flew out and away, then connected with the steps. Bouncing off the step treads, it rolled
from back to neck to head as the being flipped down the stairs. We kept our distance, not wanting to
rush in, but content to wait and see the outcome of the fall. When the beast came to rest at the bottom
of the steps, we could clearly see, by the odd direction his neck bent, that he was going to stay dead
this time. Dean fearlessly took the lead once again, his descent slowing as he neared the bottom.
Gingerly, he avoided the crumpled heap of the zombie at the base of the stairs., taking great pains to
tiptoe around the leg that angled out, blocking the path. As I mirrored his movements, I could clearly
see where Dean had shot the now still undead. The bullet had definitely struck it in the head, but it
was more a glancing blow, enough to make it drop but obviously not enough to keep it down. We
made our way to the kitchen and began rifling through the cupboards, sometimes slipping on the
debris the undead had knocked on the floor. We avoided the blood splattered areas from the zombie s
earlier head wound, searching only the untainted storage areas, not wanting to take any risks with
whatever contamination caused this outbreak. Most of the cupboards were empty. The few that held
anything at all were mostly pots, pans, paper products and empty plastic

Princess Bride, William Goldman sets up many vampires to try and belittle the main character
Buttercup. Vizzini, Prince Humperdinck, and her father to name a few. They each play a role in her
adventure of life, but Prince Humperdinck is the largest vampire of the book. On their first meeting,
he greets her I am your Prince and you will marry me Humperdinck said (Goldman. 81). Straight from
the begging he subjects her to something she may not want simply because he is the prince. He doesn t

death (Goldman, 81). After his first attempt, she refuses, so he decides to threaten her life. Foster, in
his book depicts a vampire as An older figure representing corrupt, outworn values (Foster,19).
Goldman makes Humperdinck a prime example of a vampire, he demands marriage, he keeps a zoo

cheats, and goes back on his word multiple times throughout the book, so that he can have buttercup at

Moreover, both actuaries and physical therapists are high demand jobs. According to Bureau of Labor

becoming fully qualified actuaries can be very demanding, causing this profession to remain very

actuarial science in college tend to change majors into an easier course because they find it hard to
cope with the tremendous pressure. For them, it was very stressful to take a series of professional
papers where the probability to pass those exams were extremely low. There are a number of my

Health And Wellness Is Sleep Disorders
The topic that comes to mind when I think about health and wellness is sleep disorders. This is
because my mom struggled with a sleep disorder called narcolepsy for some time. The matter that I
would specify as my research problem is: How living with narcolepsy affects quality of life . This is a
precise subject that outlines an area of interest to me that I would like to learn more about. My original
idea was sleep disorders, and I narrowed it down to a specific disorder. After that, I made it even more
precise by pinpointing a specific idea in regards to this topic.
I would begin searching for sources for this research topic on the Herzing University website in the
library section. This library has several reliable databases that can be used to search for foundations of
information. Several of these databases include health , medical , or wellness right in the title. It would
be wise to use these databases to search for information about this specific topic rather than a more
general database because the more precise databases will usually give more accurate results. It is
important to remember what make a source great, and what makes a source not reliable at all.
A technological subject that interests me is television use in young children. I have a two year old

  • 2. The Republic by Plato Essay The Republic by Plato At the beginning of Book I, we are introduced to the narrator, Socrates, and his audience of peers. We are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he knows. And second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints. The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment. He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his crew. Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. Again, through a series of examples, Socrates prevails the unjust man s pride and ambition are shown to be weaknesses, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Flawed News And Public Opinions Essay Flawed News and Public Opinions TV Journalism has been degraded to the point in which true factual and informative reporting free of bias has been replaced with short news bytes centered and focused on its entertainment value alone. Within the political process, this has mostly served as a disservice to both politicians and the general public audience. Edward J Epstein published a book entitled News from Nowhere in which he observed NBC s news department and how decisions were made on what was news worthy. He discovered a decline in television network ratings and profits caused executives to change marketing strategies. This new direction in news reporting would be tailored to an audience low in sophistication with the network defining what would be newsworthy. Epstein wrote: Dull and complicated stories would need to be of enormous importance to get on the air: but relatively trivial stories would make the cut if interesting enough . (Edwards, p. 406). Supporting this observation Washington Post editors Leonard Downie Jr and Robert Kaiser argue that Entertainment has pushed out information in the TV news business and that the history of TV news can be summarized in a couple sentences . (Edwards, p. 406). An exception to this practice would be networks assigning their best reporters to cover major events or Lead Stories at well established sources such as the White House, Congress, or the Pentagon. During the 1991 Gulf War, 50 per cent of the stories came from these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Panic Of 1893 Research Paper Panic Brian Populists The significance of this triad is that they all relate to the unlimited coinage of silver in order to balance the economy during The Depression of 1893, which was overall unsuccessful because William McKinley (pro gold) won the election in 1896 and President Grover Cleveland made gold the main money supply of the nation. The panic of 1893 was the worst depression up to that point in the U.S. Thousands of workers lost their jobs, the economy was falling, and European investors were claiming funds. President Grover Cleveland made things worse when he made gold the nation s money supply and repealed the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890. • 6. Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis Andrew Sink Mr. McCain Advanced English, period 6 22 September 2014 Raw Human Nature In the novel Lord of The Flies by William Golding, a plane crashes on an island and a group of young English boys are forced to fend for themselves as well as each other in hope of rescue. In this novel Golding makes several comments on the tendencies of man when in the absence of a social structure. Throughout the book, Golding tells the reader about human nature. When humans completely give in to human nature, chaos erupts. Through the use of the fire, the beast, and Piggy s glasses William Golding shows how human nature slowly pulls away from civilization when there is no social structure. One way that Golding conveys his message about human nature is with the fire and its smoke. In a sense, the fire is an indicator of the civilization level of the boys. Towards the beginning of the story, Ralph works very hard at keeping up the fire. The other boys help him because they want to be rescued as well. They want the fire to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the very beginning of the novel it s obvious that Piggy s glasses are important. They are a symbol of power. Piggy s glasses hold within them the power of fire. Power is something craved by most people on the island, especially Jack. This craving is due to the tendencies of human nature. Ralph uses Piggy s specs so he can make his signal fires, but when Jack breaks away and forms his own tribe. He steals Piggy s glasses so he can have fire for cooking his meat. The spectacles have the power to save them all from the island, such as Ralph s signal fires, or destroy them all, such as Jack creating a forest fire in an attempt to kill Ralph. Ralph tries to use the spectacles to get rescued and Jack tries to use the spectacles to kill Ralph and gain power. The craving for power drives both sides, which is one of the main tendencies of human nature that Golding talks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay about Policies and Politics in Madagascar Madagascar is among the countries that are termed as least developed in the world today (United Nations, 2001). The implementation of trade agreement based on agriculture sector led to sluggishness in the various market dynamics of the available grains. In addition to this, the quantity of grains was declining and as a consequence of this, the revenues generated declined at an alarming rate. The country was therefore obliged to opt for food import. This step was taken as a result of reduction in the amount of aid granted to the government, and subsequent subsidization of exports. Since Madagascar could not afford to offer export subsidization, the country s exports were highly affected by the established policies such as non tariff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The common people were involved in the actual digging of the gem. However, they just received peanuts from the sale of the stones, while the wealthy would gain enormous cash from the sale of the same. This was attributed to the fact that, the wealthy had all the necessary connections to international markets. Despite this, the mining of gem was characterized by myriad negative effects to the local environment. However, attempts from various non governmental organizations (NGOs) and donors to challenge the same, were completely blocked by the shadow state that had a very great influence in Madagascar. Moreover, the mining act is practiced in selected and secured areas thus limiting the efforts of various national and related international agencies to protect or conserve the immediate surroundings. On the other side, the potential grounds for gem mining are located in the secured government areas, and the rainforest zones which are known to have an enormous degree of biodiversity. Thus many NGOs find it cumbersome to advocate for ecotourism and national parks. This is attributed to the fact that NGOs are not able to prove to the Government, potential donors, and various available private business that ecotourism earns more revenue which is sustainable than carrying out gem mining in the area. The inherent gem mining in the area has resulted to an overwhelming cultural as well as political impact in the vicinity of the local areas. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Children Are At Home Learning Languages Essay In different regions around the world, young children are at home learning languages that differ from the prevailing language used in their extensive social world. When they arrive at school, these children has a different precious resource; there mother tongue often referred to as L1. Typically, when indigenous and minority language speaking students begin school, they are forced to learn a language of the majority group in order to fit in socially and succeed in their academics. In a majority of schools, these children are thought exclusively in the second language, which is most often English. Art. It is undeniable that Mayan art during the Classic era (from 250 AD to 900 AD) is of a high level of aesthetic and artisanal sophistication (Maya civilization, n.d.). Huntington s Disease ( Hd ) Essay Huntington s disease (HD) is a late onset, usually between 35 and 50 years old, neurodegenerative disorder prevalent in 3 7 per 100,000 people of European ancestry1. The disease, inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern2, is characterized by motor disturbance, intellectual decline, and psychiatric manifestations3. The disease is difficult to detect at an early stage of an individual s life since its symptoms appear in the third to fifth decade of life. To better understand the disease, investigations were done to identify the gene that is linked with the disease. The researchers in this paper relied on the polymorphic protein markers or enzymes which they excluded in the 20% of the genome. However, the lack of additional markers made it impossible to test the remaining part of the genome. With the use of recombinant DNA technology, the study aimed to use the restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) as DNA markers to determine linkage of the disease gene in large multigenerational families. Two large families, with Huntington s disease, were used in the study. Pedigrees of the American and Venezuelan families showing a clear autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance of the disease were established. Family members having the disease were examined by an experienced and knowledgeable neurologist to make sure that these individuals really possessed the said disease. Gold was found on the Cherokee land during the Georgia Gold Rush. The greed that it created was one of the leading causes of the Trail of Tears where thousands of Native Americans were forcibly relocated from their native lands (Cherokee.org). Little did the Native Americans realize that the new nation that was going to be forming around them would affect not only their lives but the lives of their descendants. Even though the Cherokee made efforts to keep their land through the court system and even attempted to assimilate to the American way of life it was to no avail. They tried to agree to treaties with the United States Government. Even though, they were eventually forced to leave their lands. By forcing the Native Americans to abandon their homes, robbing their lands, taking their freedom, and forcing them to adapt and to assimilate into a new land and culture showed how vindictive President Andrew Jackson was regarding the Native Americans. The Trail of Tears was an instance of the United States Government committing genocide against the Native Americans Until 1828, the federal government agreed that Cherokee had rights to their land, but when Andrew Jackson was elected President, that all ended. She decided to go out in the town. Juliet had just met a young man named, Jake. He was tall, had long brown hair, and had eyes as blue as the ocean. He had agreed to show her around the village. That day princess Juliet, dressed in plain clothes that she had hidden since her mom left them for her when she passed away. She had only been outside for a matter of minutes when she decided she wanted to come back again. Her and Jake had a great time and had made many good memories together. After Jake showed her around the town and she got to experience the many new things she had not and probably never would have if she had stayed in the castle, she went back home. After she snuck into her tower she got changed back into a dress and was putting the clothes back into the place where she normally hides them when a note dropped out of one of the pockets. • 30. Theatre History Research Paper Elizabeth Phillips David Wolski Theatre History December 6, 2017 The Masters Behind Teatro Olimpico Two men are responsible for the beautiful architecture that is the Teatro Olimpico but neither of them worked on it at the same time. Both Andrea Palladio and his successor Vincenzo Scamozzi contributed their own ideas to the theatre. It is fact that Palladio had his hand in most of the design but it can be argued that the Teatro Olimpico would not be as it is today without Scamozzi. Looking at the history before the Teatro Olimpico was built, it starts with a group that was founded by Palladio himself, the Accademia Olimpica. The group was founded in 1555 and focused on bringing classical theatre into the Renaissance. Palladio s contribution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was a lover of the Roman architecture and classical theatre. Palladio had illustrated Daniele Barbaro s Italian translation of Vitruvius De architectura, which was a detailed work that explained what theatre was like in the Roman Empire. It includes floorplans for Roman theatres and an elevation for the scaenae frons of Vicenza s ruined Roman theatre, the Teatro Berga. The scaenae frons is the elaborately decorated permanent architectural background of a Roman theatre stage. Normally there are three entrances to the stage (Palmyra has five) including a grand central entrance, known as the porta regia or royal door . The form may have been intended to resemble the facades of imperial palaces.[1] The scaenae frons is often two and sometimes three stories in height and was central to the theatre s visual impact for this was what was seen by a Roman audience at all times. Tiers or balconies were supported by an exuberant display of columns, normally in the Corinthian order, often originally including many statues in niches.[2] In smaller theatres it could support a permanent roof, enclosing the whole theatre, and in larger ones awnings over the whole or parts of the theatre, perhaps secured to masts rising above it, for which there is some evidence.[3]As well, Palladio s papers include plans for the imagined reconstruction of the ... • 31. The And Of The Basement We decided to have Timmy open the door. That way, if the undead occupant of the basement was actually at the top of the stairs, we would be, hopefully, able to bring one or both of our weapons to bear. We hoped to push the zombie down the stairwell; and, if we were lucky, that would create the necessary trauma to the brain area to cause permanent death. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, said Tim stoically with a knowing grin. Or the one, added Dean. I had no idea what they were talking about. Bouncing off the step treads, it rolled from back to neck to head as the being flipped down the stairs. We kept our distance, not wanting to rush in, but content to wait and see the outcome of the fall. When the beast came to rest at the bottom of the steps, we could clearly see, by the odd direction his neck bent, that he was going to stay dead this time. Dean fearlessly took the lead once again, his descent slowing as he neared the bottom. Gingerly, he avoided the crumpled heap of the zombie at the base of the stairs., taking great pains to tiptoe around the leg that angled out, blocking the path. As I mirrored his movements, I could clearly see where Dean had shot the now still undead. The bullet had definitely struck it in the head, but it was more a glancing blow, enough to make it drop but obviously not enough to keep it down. We made our way to the kitchen and began rifling through the cupboards, sometimes slipping on the debris the undead had knocked on the floor. We avoided the blood splattered areas from the zombie s earlier head wound, searching only the untainted storage areas, not wanting to take any risks with whatever contamination caused this outbreak. Most of the cupboards were empty. The few that held anything at all were mostly pots, pans, paper products and empty plastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We entered the negotiation with little preparation or strategy planning, two dominate members from each team naturally took the stand of being lead negotiators. This gave the negotiation a level feel in relation to nonverbal communication and allowed for smooth transitions in reframing prospective offers. Both teams had adopted a distributive bargaining stance which made negotiations strained and volatile with high and low ball offers dissatisfying both sides. Both teams creatively used their knowledge in creating large amounts of claimed value and creation of value. They help organizations plan for the future and protect themselves from loss. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook (2010), demand for actuary in United States will see a projected growth rate of 27% through 2020. The education process and examination procedure for becoming fully qualified actuaries can be very demanding, causing this profession to remain very small in the world. As a result, actuaries are in high demand, and they are highly paid for the services they provide. The reason for actuaries to be high in demand is because the students that were studying actuarial science in college tend to change majors into an easier course because they find it hard to cope with the tremendous pressure. For them, it was very stressful to take a series of professional papers where the probability to pass those exams were extremely low. There are a number of my friends which started off their first year of college studying actuarial science, changed into some easier course later on, such as Business Administration. The journey of becoming physical therapists is also not easy. This is because my mom struggled with a sleep disorder called narcolepsy for some time. The matter that I would specify as my research problem is: How living with narcolepsy affects quality of life . This is a precise subject that outlines an area of interest to me that I would like to learn more about. My original idea was sleep disorders, and I narrowed it down to a specific disorder. After that, I made it even more precise by pinpointing a specific idea in regards to this topic. I would begin searching for sources for this research topic on the Herzing University website in the library section. This library has several reliable databases that can be used to search for foundations of information. Several of these databases include health , medical , or wellness right in the title. It would be wise to use these databases to search for information about this specific topic rather than a more general database because the more precise databases will usually give more accurate results. It is important to remember what make a source great, and what makes a source not reliable at all. A technological subject that interests me is television use in young children.
