Enrique s Journey Essay
Journalist and author, Sonia Nazario s novel Enrique s Journey has sparked tremendous attention to
the immigration laws of the United states.Immigration and immigrants are the integral parts of the
United States, which constitutes to the cultural and economic prosperity of the country.Yet, people
segregate immigrants based on race, color and culture; especially, illegal immigrants that are labeled
criminals, drug addicts and rapists.Through Enrique s journey, Sonia Nazario illustrated the illegal
journey of a young boy named Enrique to reunite with his mother in the United States.Enrique always
felt abandoned by his mother Lourdes, when she left him and his older sister Belky to travel across

young and old are most likely to have their arms and legs severed or even die before they could see
their mothers again. For enrique, dangers lurked in the form of gangsters, bandits, police offices and La
Migra. They rob and rape innocents, stripping them of anything valuable, even their mother s
numbers.Enrique endured the beatings of a gangster, which left him with a permanent drooped left
eye; he suffered several injuries that he wished he was caught by the officials, ending the torture. After
several failures, Enrique s eighth attempt to cross borders became successful; he reached Nuevo
laredo, close to the U.S territory. Along the way, he met friends, foes and kind people whose offering

Global Movements Of Western Culture
Make an argument that show how Scheld s case and the two other cases you select are examples of the
ways in which global movements of commodities, capital and Western culture are modified by local
cultural systems.
Since the advent of modernisation and the rise of globalisation around the world, issues regarding the
cultural homogenisation of the world have arisen. Anthropologists have raised concern about the
spread of capitalism as the dominant form of market exchange, the commodification process and the
prominence of Western media in contributing the erasure of cultural difference in many areas around
the world (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). Many first world leaders during the Cold War believed that
emerging nations would become prosperous only if they became capitalist nation states (Schultz and
Lavenda 2005, 360). A neo colonialist form of political intervention emerged, as more developed
countries believed that it was their duty to teach developing nation states about capitalism, so they can
achieve economic success and independence (Schultz and Lavenda 2005, 360). As thus, there is a
threat of cultural homogenisation, whereby the dominant cultures of the core, such as America, impose
their beliefs, values and cultural products to developing nations, thereby replacing cultural differences
with that of the dominant culture (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). Despite the seemingly homogenising
process of commodification and capitalism, social transmutations of the capitalist

How Did The Middle Class Affect Latin America
The rise of the middle class had a potent impact on Latin America. The middle class consisted of a
high percentage of the intellectuals, authors, teachers, and journalists and also they had the most
influential voice in the late 19th century (Charlip Burns, 177). One of the most important points about
the middle class was that they were not only the true nationalists in Latin America but also they
regarded the United States as their model, thus they tried to learn something beneficial from the
United Sates for their nation s prosperity and citizens. For example, the middle class was impressed by
the high North American literacy rate and also considered the high literacy rate seemed to provide the
proper preparation for an industrial society

Functionalist Theory On Gambling
If the functionalist theory explains why the percentage of women aged 45 64 who are problem
gamblers has increased since 1998, then that would mean women aged 45 64 are discontent with
society or feel unable to reach the goals and means set up by society. Gambling, in this case being
their harmless expression to their current circumstance. A theory would be that women aged 45 64 are
a lot more stressed out by society or circumstances than they were during 1998, which leads to the
deviance, in this case gambling, which works as the response to not being able to cope with the stress
and expectations put up by society.
One possible reason as to why women are more stressed and have higher expectations today is that
more women are working today than in 1998. As women start focusing on their careers they are still
expected to do household work, as a stay at home wife would. Figure 1 which ... Show more content

Among the men, majority of the problem gamblers claimed they had poor psychological health, while
majority of the female problem gamblers claimed they had good psychological health. One argument
could be that the problem gamblers use gambling to deal with their stress, so they feel like they have a
good psychological health. However, if applying the functionalist theory this argument would be weak
since the functionalist theory says that the act of deviance is a sign that the person is discontent with
something, or unable to reach the goals set up to society. If the functionalist theory was correct, that
women are under more stress leading them to gamble more, then they would state that there
psychological health is poor, because they would be discontent with something. It is also important to
remember that this is what the problem gamblers claim themselves, and some of them may not want to
admit how they really are doing

Conflict Between Barbarism and Reason in Lord of the Flies
William Golding s Lord of the Flies is a carefully constructed fable that was, in Golding s words, an
attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature. (Grigson 189). The novel
shows a group of English boys reverting to savagery on a Pacific island. The book deals with the
conflict between humanity s inner barbarism on one side, and the civilizing influence of reason on the
other.
Each of the two characters I have chosen to contrast and compare is presented in the novel as the most
influential representative of each of the two sides. Jack, the chief of the hunters, representing the
hidden human passion and almost animal cruelty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jack grinned back.
Not for the two of us.
Together, joined in effort by the burden, they staggered up the last step of the mountain.
Together, they chanted One!
The first, although hidden conflict between Ralph and Jack, the conflict between the two sides, arises
when Ralph is elected or appointed as the chief, the one who decides things . The reader feels that
Jack s vanity has been hit by the loss.
Ralph counted.
I m the chief then.
The circle of boys broke into applause. Even the choir applauded; and the freckles on Jack s face
disappeared under a mortification.
Even then the relationship and attitudes of the two boys remain almost the same. They both agree on
the need of fire, on the need of shelters and on the need of meat. Nonetheless, one can feel that after
Ralph had been elected for the chief, the Jack s side of reasons and Ralph s common sense start
separating from each other.
At first Jack and his hunters do what they are asked to, but as time goes on, they start to participate in
different activities and neglect those needed for the sake of the boys salvation.
Ralph spoke.
You let the fire out.
Jack checked, vaguely irritated by this irrelevance but too happy to let it worry him.

The Battle With Grendel s Mother In Beowulf
Grendel s mother is the most dangerous antagonist for Beowulf during the whole story. The story
starts with Beowulf battling with Grendel. Then is switches to the battle with Grendel s mother who is
getting revenge. These two battles define which is more dangerous than the other. First, the fight with
Grendel is a brutal one. The battle took place in the town of Heorot where Grendel kept attacking the
town at night injuring and killing people. For this battle there wasn t much preparation other than
making himself as dangerous any day as Grendel. (Beowulf line 687). He does so by taking off all his
armor and just wearing regular clothing. Beowulf fights this battle with No weapons. (Beowulf line
683). He does so because he thinks Grendel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

battle. Then Grendel s mother attacks and kills most of the men in the town while Beowulf is sleeping

is the most dangerous antagonist in this story. You can see that by Beowulf having to battle her twice
unlike his one battle with Grendel. Also it is shown because the town doesn t know that she is coming

person in their life. These characters usually had very rough lives and or had rough deaths. In the the

Words To Describe Louisiana
How do you describe Louisiana? That is a hard one because Louisiana is like no other state. Louisiana
became a state on April 30, 1812. Louisiana is 51,843 square miles. The state is divided into north and
south Louisiana, but throughout the state the culture is the same. The religion, music, people, areas,
food, and language are all very unique to Louisiana.
Within Louisiana there are several different religions. Many people from Louisiana are descendants of
Europeans and practice Catholicism (Louisiana Creole Culture). According to a study done in 2010,
the top five denominations of religion in Louisiana in this order are: Catholic, Southern Baptist, non
denomination, United Methodist, and National Baptist convention(Louisiana Religion Statistics). ...

Anytime you go to someone s house they will fix you some kind of food. Both Creole and Cajun
cooking developed in Southern Louisiana but popular in Northern Louisiana too. According to the
article Ducote wrote, Creole cooking is city food and Cajun cooking is country food. Both styles use
fresh local food, but the preparation is different. Cajun and Creole cuisine is popular throughout to the
State of Louisiana. Cajun cooking tends to be more robust and has more spice to it. A lot of Cajuns
live off the land and use the natural resources they have in order to survive. They live in the bayou and
swamps were fish, shellfish, and wild game are all over the place. The Cajuns did not try to replicate
European dishes since they did not have access to the exotic spices and other hard to find ingredients
that made up the more complex European dishes. Cajun food was shaped by were they settled. Cajun
cooking is simple and most of the dishes can be cooked all in one pot. They had an abundance of wild
game, seafood, wild vegetables and herbs in order to make their dishes. Creole cuisine comes from
French, Spanish, African, Native American, and Caribbean influences (Louisiana Creole Culture).
Creole cooking is all about sauces and the sauces are creamy and full of favors with use of herbs and
spices. Creole food represents Louisiana s flair and imagination. Unlike the Cajuns, the Creole people
were the upper class and felt they needed to recreate European dishes in order to be happy. Creole
cooking is more complex than Cajun. Unlike Cajun cooking, Creole cooking cooks all the ingredients
separately and serves them. They were able to afford rare spices and other foods from Europe that
were not readily found in Louisiana. Creole food is always full flavored, with generous components of
butter, pepper, salt and herbs. Creole cooking uses celery, bell pepper, and onions, cooked in a roux as
a starting point for a lot of Creole dishes

Once The World Transitioned Into The ā€œDigital Ageā€, Many
Once the world transitioned into the digital age , many believed that advanced movements in
technology would positively impact everyone. Some would argue that this is the case several decades
later, as people are becoming more comfortable with using technology on a regular basis. However,
there has been many people who have came to the conclusion that the use of technology on a daily
basis has negatively effected the ability of humans to effectively think or portray information.
Technology has its positive aspects, such as, improving the health of a relationship or helping people
think creatively. Then, technology has its lows, such as, it gives people anxiety problems or people
that become attached to their technological device, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, Carr states that when reading a narrative that it has become difficult to comprehend the
information that was read a few pages ago because his mind would travel to other places (314). Before
his increased reliance on technology, he was able to comprehend most of the information that was in
the text he was reading. Now, that technology has basically taking over his life, it is very hard for Carr
to understand what is specifically going on in any specific article. Some people believe that newer
technology has impacted people s ability to think deeply, but there is another argument that has arisen
as well. Along the same lines, some people argue that newer forms of communication, such as text
messaging and social media, has resulted in a decline in intimacy in the relationships that people have
been apart of. Some may argue that the ability to think deeply and a downward trend in intimacy are
parallel issues with each other because if someone cannot think deeply enough, then this person is
mostly likely going to result to the internet for help with a specific issue in a relationship, rather than
actually talking with the person up front. Mostly, the intimacy issues happen when people (usually
teenagers) prefer to speak to someone over the phone or by texting compared to speaking with the
recipient in person. Sherry Turkle, author of No Need to Call which is in the book They Say/I Say, is

What Are The Causes Of Desmoid Tumors
The most common causes linked to desmoid tumors are genetics. Parents pass on the inherited gene
called beta catenin to the offspring. Another form of this mutated genes causing this condition are
associated with familial adenomatous polyposis is an inherited form of colon cancer.
In some cases, the tumor does occur randomly with no association to genetics or other existing health
conditions. These forms are described as sporadic and generally don t spread to other parts of the
body, unlike an aggressive fibromatosis condition also referred to as desmoid tumors outside the
abdomen.
The high levels of hormones during pregnancy raise the risks desmoid tumors. In this stance, the cause
of the tumor is a result of the abdominal wall expanding to accommodate the developing fetus. Other
causes of these tumors during pregnancy are linked to the excessive amounts of hormonal changes
affecting the immune system allowing the development of tumors. ... Show more content on

Suffering In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The following stanza from part four of Samuel Taylor Coleridge s, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
occurs just after the Mariners entire crew dropped to the ground dead. The mariner could do nothing
but watch as his dead crew lie on the deck and remember the cold, evil look they left with him. The
Mariner goes then experiences a period of suffering of his own; for he feels responsible for the death
of his crew. The stanza above shows the colossal guilt the mariner suffers with and the retribution that
he goes through for his sinful act of killing the Albatross.
As the Mariner tells his tale to the wedding guest, he mentions to him subtle details of his dead crew s
corpses that make you wonder why they are relevant to even mention. As the cold sweat leaks from
his crew members limbs, it is a metaphor for the Mariner s anxious behavior. He slowly begins to
notice the guilt he feels for the death of his crew. The Mariner then goes on to think about the look

a curse found in a dead man s eye is even more horrible than the orphan s curse. This shows the
brutality and damage that has affected the Mariner, and the retribution he suffers with. The Mariner
saw this curse for seven days, seven nights, as a punishment for all he had done. Yet I could not die,
the Mariner sat in the middle of the ocean for seven days, and seven nights with the curse in a dead

Stigma Of Social Welfare System
The social welfare system in the United States is defined through several different sectors of
government and generally comes along with a negative stigma. When people hear about social welfare
they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs
such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the
social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is.
Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s
needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this
definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems
within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974).
The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t
include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are
different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and
universal (PowerPoint). The main point difference between the institutional approach and the residual
approach is that the institutional approach is preventative where the residual approach is set up as a
safety net, when something goes wrong (PowerPoint). The institutional approach acknowledges the
need for social services

Electoral System And Representation Of Representation,...
The variety of electoral systems currently in place has important political implications for matters of
representation, accountability, and government effectiveness. A given electoral system determines the
extent to which voters have choices in the election process, the way in which parties and candidates
are elected as representatives, the extent and form of political competition, and the means by which
the electorate vote is translated into legislative representation. Adopted by nations worldwide are two
voting systems known as single member plurality and proportional representation. As a result of the
divisions and proportions of representation, two significantly contrasting dynamics of electoral and
governing processes emanate from the practice of these two systems. This paper will comprise a
systematic explanation of proportional representation and single member plurality for its style of voter
choice and its method of electing candidates, followed by a comparison of the forms of representation
offered by and resulting from each system. Single member plurality.
The electoral system most familiar to the democracies of Canada, the United States, and the United
Kingdom is that of single member plurality (SMP). A nation is divided into many districts or
constituencies. Each elector votes for a single candidate for their constituency on a ballot to represent
them in the legislative body. A candidate is elected to office if he or she receives the most votes in his

Rhetorical Analysis of Public Thinking
Journalist, Clive Thompson in his book, Smarter Than You Think , specifically in the chapter titled,
Public Thinking , published on September 12, 2013, addresses the topic of technology and argues that
because of the internet, we are doing more writing now than ever. Therefore technology is helping us
think publicly in new and improved ways. He supports this claim by asserting that there is an
improvement in our writing, which is happening because of the audience effect , he then goes on to
say that anything we write changes the way we think, and finally he talks about how the internet
builds connections, which is essential to the spread of new ideas. Thompson s purpose is to inform
readers about how the internet is a tool being used to advance our society in order to encourage more
people to partake in online, public thinking. He adopts a contemplative tone for his audience, the
readers of The New York Times, and others interested in the topic of technology. It is my intention in
this paper to analyze the author s subclaims and use of rhetorical strategies.
In his article, Thompson claims that there is an audience effect which is causing an improvement in
writing. While talking about the important aspects of the increase in online writing, Thompson states
that, When you write something online whether it s a one sentence status update, a comment on

Fatalism In The Lady Finger
Joint family and close association between family members is the greatest characteristics of the
Pakistani society. Sdiqa s house was a big house. Many relatives visited this house and stayed there.
Particularly in case of some ceremony or distress, many relatives came to share such occasions.
Sadiqa s friendship with Imran came out an account of his characteristic. Thus the story, The Lady

The story, The Lady Finger, has the characteristics of both fatalism and feminism. But the fatalism has
been dealt with loudly. In other words, the story opens with romantic of an adopted girl and proceeds
along the growth of the girl. The story writer develops the story the story taking the norms of society

the greater cause of the girl s troubles is not human beings. It is her fate.

One Moment in Kyle s life that demonstrated his No Excuses attitude is when he first moved to

Occupational Therapy Personal Statement
OTCAS Personal Statement
There is an anonymous quote I often encounter which states, Find three hobbies you love: one to make
you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative. I believe that people can have many
hobbies and passions in life, but there are few things that constitute what our purpose is. I feel that
when we can combine our passions into a career that also has a positive impact on humanity, we have
found our purpose.
I am not going to tell you that it has always been my dream to become an occupational therapist. For
most of my school years, I did not know what profession I wanted to pursue. I did know, however, that
I desired to work in healthcare because of my personal experience with my family s injuries/diseases,
as well as my interests in how the body functions and heals. For a while, I was adjudicating between
becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist because the two professions are quite
similar. After much contemplation, I realized that my high attention to detail, personality, and my

Virtual Or Community Ward
A second option for the patient might have been a virtual or community ward.
The principle of the virtual ward is to provide an integrated health service for patient with high risk of
hospital admission. Essentially, high levels of care are provided in the patient s home with a GP acting
as consultant. A survey outlines high patient satisfaction into these wards which also reduce the
number and so cost of A E attendance, GP visit, social service provision and community health service
(Lewis et al 2013). If local authorities want to develop the virtual mode, it could be the best
mechanism to meet the patient s care needs in community (Lewis et al 2013).
A third and perhaps futuristic option might be telecare services for older people. Older people in their
homes have benefitted from telecare technology, which is designed to prevent isolation of frail people
(Davies and Newman 2011). Pendant alarm, fall alarm, device to monitor vital sign or moment beyond
safe area have proved to be good and effective technology to support the older people in community
which gives the kind of reassurance to the carers and next of kin and potentially reduce the demands
on the health care service (Steventon and Bardsley 2011). Local service authority should use these
technologies as part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Brief Note On Asphalt And Warm Mix Asphalt
Introduction
What is asphalt?
Asphalt is a mixture of coarse and fine aggregates (mainly stone and sand) mixed with bitumen
(asphalt cement).
The aggregates can be obtained from natural sources with the correct grading or from quarries where
crushed aggregates are processed. Quarry is usually the main source of aggregates for asphalt
mixtures.
Bitumen can also be obtained from natural sources, but these natural sources are only available in
certain countries. The main source of bitumen for asphalt mixtures is from petroleum processing
where bitumen is a byproduct of the distillation of crude oil. This by product is then further processed
to form bitumen of different grades.

Cold mix is applied to the road paving, shaped and compacted while it is still in its plastic state. After
a while the water from the emulsion mixture evaporates and the mixture starts to harden.
Cold mix asphalt can be produced at any temperature above freezing. The products used are usually
mixed together at air temperature.
Cold mix asphalt is mainly used for maintenance purposes like pothole repair due to its essay
workability, and low production cost. Cold mix asphalt is used more in colder countries where it is not
always possible to use warm mix asphalts for maintenance due to the rapid cooling of these warm
products at cold temperatures.
Warm Mix Asphalt
Warm mix asphalt should not be confused with hot mix asphalt. The name hot or warm mix asphalt is
dependent on the temperature at which the asphalt is manufactured.
Hot mix asphalt is manufactured at temperatures ranging from 150 175 degrees celsius and mainly
used for paving on highways.
Warm mix asphalt is manufactured at temperatures ranging from 90 120 degrees celsius. Due to the
lower manufacturing temperature of warm mix asphalt it uses less energy per ton to produce. Therefor
it is cheaper to produce warm mix asphalt.
Additional binding materials and additives like wax and emulsions are added to soften the product
thus making it easier to spread at low temperatures.
Due to the fact that warm mix asphalt is more workable at lower temperatures than hot mix asphalts it
can be

How Did The Confederation Lead To German Unification
After the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved by Napoleon, all of the German states were completely
separate. They had nothing tying them together until 1815. This is when the Congress of Vienna
created the German Confederation, a group of 39 loosely joined German states. The Confederation
still had no central government, but delegates would meet once a month to discuss things like mutual
laws and policies. The Confederation was mainly a loose political organization who had common
allies and enemies (Britannica). The states in the Confederation were still separate for the most part,
although this did not cause them problems. The Confederation worked for all of the states and they
were all peaceful. In 1864 the process of unification started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Because of these issues, the Seven Weeks war started between Austria and Prussia. Bismarck had
already gotten Italian support and French neutrality for Prussia. Prussia made the first move by
occupying Holstein, but many German states, including Saxony, Hanover and Bavaria, took Austria s
side. They were suspicious of Prussian military. Despite having support, Austria was defeated at the
Battle of Sadowa (Koniggratz). The Treaty of Prague was created in August of that year and excluded
Austria from all German affairs. Throughout the process of creating the Treaty, Bismarck made sure
that Austria didn t lose any land. After this, the German Confederation was dissolved and the North
German Confederation was formed. The North German Confederation consisted of all of the German
states north of the Main river and it was controlled by Prussia. The southern states such as Baden and
Bavaria stayed independent, although they had military alliances with Prussia. A main problem that
delayed further unification was France, ruled by Napoleon III. The French held a growing idea that a
Germany that was united and ruled by Prussia would create competition against France for being the
main power in Europe. In 1870,

The Weird Is An Essential Horror Component
As a genre, the weird is an essential horror component that is used to convey points and ideas that
regular Gothic monsters cannot. Dracula is not the fatalistic manifestation of there is nothing you can
do to change the world that Cthulhu is, and cannot be made into one. When the monsters are tangible,
they are understandable. They have a weakness, they can be conquered by humanity and have the
world return to a relative normal. The weird can convey the extremes in ways tangible monsters
cannot, and make a statement on the world that the Gothic is too limited to address completely. Both

good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in
joy. ... And all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom. (Lovecraft)
This shows how Lovecraft sees the world, using the elder gods as a tangible metaphor for his nihilistic
view of life and its meaning, or lack thereof. In a cosmic sense, the monster is unimportant, adding
another layer of merit to Lovecraft s argument. If the mighty Cthulhu is a simple extraterrestrial being
that happened to find Earth and build a city on it, what is his purpose? What does he worship, fear,
love? Even the world ending, miles tall, progeny of Earth s ambivalent horror has no purpose or drive
beyond staying in his endless cycle, dreaming in R yleh.
Gilman is much more positive than Lovecraft, in a way. She does not see the world as inherently
useless, but does question the ideas that society takes for granted, like the ability to control the self
and medical practices meant to deprive the patient of mental activity. The Yellow Wallpaper is her take

Carbon Dioxide And The Effects Of Climate Change
Carbon Dioxide and the Effects of Climate Change
At the 2016 Oscar awards, Leonardo DiCaprio received a long awaited first Oscar, only to mention
climate change as, the most urgent threat facing our entire species. Talk of climate change has become
more prevalent in recent years, but has not done so unjustified. Global ambient air temperatures have
risen at alarming rates and are projected to rise up to 6 degrees Celsius by the year 2100. Such drastic
changes in the air temperature will not only have an effect on heat distribution, but could prove
disastrous to individual ecosystems and the overall biosphere of planet earth. Many ecosystems are a
delicate balance of plant and animal life and, when altered by slight margins, can harm carbon cycles
and imperiled species. Furthermore, evaporation and precipitation rates will also morph over time to
match the changing of the seasons, further antagonizing severe weather patterns. In combination, all of
these side effects of carbon emissions provide a bleak future for the earth and all of its inhabitants, and
if these problems are not addressed properly we could all suffer the consequences for future
generations to come. Research suggests that the harmful effects of carbon emissions must be
addressed aggressively because many species are suffering in number as well as quality of life,
weather patterns and rainfall are behaving more erratically, and the overall temperature of the earth
continues to rise at an alarming rate.

There are some images that one can use to show Medusa, so it depends on what one wants to talk

Medusa does not look that ugly. In most pictures, Medusa just looks like a beautiful woman who has
snake for her hair. It seems strange that society and history remember her as ugly. One reason is
because of the snakes in her hair. Images show that her hair is full of many snakes. On her head, is
looks to be multiple kinds of snake. Some snakes look to be dice snakes, Natrix Tessellate, which are
venomous snakes found in Europe (McLaren, John). People hate snakes and fear them. In many
cultures such as Christianity, snakes are evil. Satan took the form of one in the Garden of Eve to
seduce Adam and Eve to commit sin. It works and mankind is driven out of the Garden forever ( Are
snakes evil? Does the Bible say anything about snakes? ). The image of a snake makes many shiver in
fear of it. Most of the Greek myths show snakes in a distrustful manner. Most of Ancient Greek
believed that snakes were liars and intelligent, but not to trust them.
Medusa is an important goddess used a lot in Greek female myths. In Greek myths, her hair which is
of snakes can show the symbolism of snakes. Snakes were said to have shown the natural cycle of

Statistical Control Charts Essay
Introduction and History of Statistical Process Control Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a method
of controlling the quality of a manufacturing process and is most often affiliated with control charts.
However, SPC in reality is a group of tools and includes additional statistical and
evaluation/measurement methods. Smith, Megahed, Jonesā€Farmer and Clark defined seven basic tools
of SPC including; histograms, check sheets, Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, defect
concentration diagrams, scatter diagrams and of course the aforementioned control charts (2014).
These tools represent the scope and overall purpose/pursuit of SPC which is; any statistical method
designed to detect changes in a process over time (Woodall Montgomery, 1999, p. 377). Since control
charts is often the most discussed of these seven tools; it is important to note there are many different
types of control charts. The main control charts include; process charts which are R charts and s
charts, non conforming item charts also known as p charts and np charts and finally average numbers
of non conformity charts or c charts and u charts (Woodall Montgomery, 1999).
Statistical Process Control experienced its most significant growth and expansion during the quality
revolution in the 1980 s (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). It was during this time period that the focal
point of quality changed from being merely acceptance or customer defined quality criteria to actual
process control (Woodall

History of Aruba
Although there are no written accounts of Aruba s early history, much has been determined by
archeological excavation. The first known settlers of the island were a tribe of Arawak natives called
the Caiquetios. These people were initially located on the South American mainland, and it is assumed
that the Caiquetios migrated from Venezuela to Aruba. Due to its lack of natural resources, it can be
assumed that Aruba was merely a stopover for a succession of tribes. They were a peaceful people,
living under the guidance of a shaman or priest, who also served as the village chief. The transient
nature of Aruba s population kept the size of the villages small, usually under fifty individuals. The

When the Spanish realized that the climate of Aruba was too arid for cultivation and there was little
evidence of the gold they were seeking, they essentially abandoned it to the native Caiquetios for
approximately 150 years, and devoted their attention to their more lucrative possessions. Some natives
were brought to Spain s other islands, such as Hispaniola, to work as slaves, while others were
converted to Christianity. Before long, however, the island became a concealed hide away for pirates
and buccaneers who preyed on ships transporting New World goods back to Europe. At Bushiribana
on the northeast coast, the ruins of an old pirate castle remain today.
During this time, the Dutch and Spanish had begun their Eighty Years War, which, in 1580, resulted in
the closing of Portugal s ports to Dutch navigation. The Dutch began traveling to the West Indies in
search of foreign goods such as salt. Following the Spanish conquest of their base in St. Maarten, the
Dutch set out looking for another place to establish a colonial presence. In 1936 they captured the
islands of Aruba, CuraƧao, and Bonaire from the Spanish who put up very little defense. The Dutch
West India Company set up its administrative capital on CuraƧao and formed an economic plan for its
Netherlands Antilles. CuraƧao would be the capital and agricultural center, Bonaire would be used for
salt making and maize growing,

What Do We Really Know About The Beginning Of Time
What Do We Really Know About The Beginning Of Time?
Most people take for granted important discoveries, such as the Big Bang. It is widely accepted that
the Big Bang created the universe, and while most people can explain the basic theory behind it, little
else is common knowledge. Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes called it The Horrendous Space Kablooie,
but many people do not grasp the enormous concept (Milne). How exactly do you prove how time
began? A writer for Scientific American put this subject into perspective: If you re religious, this is
like looking at God (Milne).
Cosmology is the study of the universe, its workings, how it was made, and what it will become. How
the universe began has always been a wonder to humans. One ... Show more content on

So close, in fact, that everything in the universe was concentrated into a single point he called the
primordial atom, which happens to be the name of his theory. He also said that to gain the outward
momentum we have today, the atom must have exploded like fireworks of unimaginable beauty
(Milne). Does this sound like the Big Bang Theory? That is because it is, although the name Big Bang
did not come about until Fred Hoyle jokingly called it the Big Bang while trying to oppose the theory
in 1950 (Encarta).
Everything makes sense, but how to prove such a beginning? In the 1960s, scientists realized that such
a hot and violent beginning must have left a vast wave of heat that can still be traced in small amounts.
Not long after this realization, two Bell scientists announced that they had discovered this heat wave,
called the cosmic background radiation. They both received the Nobel Prize in 1978 for their findings.
These first findings, however, had a few hitches. The cosmic background radiation was found to be
fairly smooth and even. It was hard for scientists to figure out how stars and galaxies grouped together
with such an even distribution. Once again, with the advance of technology and the challenge of a
good problem, scientists went to work. During a press conference in 1992, George Smoot and a few
other colleagues announced that they had found these temperature ripples in the cosmic background
radiation. So there you have it! The origin of

Main Characters In Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman (raised as Diana, princess of the Amazons) was trained for most of her life on
Themyscira to be an unconquerable warrior. But when she saves a drowning pilot who tells her of the
wars going on outside of her sheltered paradise she is convinced she can stop the conflict. Fighting
alongside four men and a secretary she finally discovers who, or rather what she is.
The main character of the film (played by Gal Gadot), Wonder Woman is based on a DC comics
character who goes by the same name. The film is directed by Patty Jenkins while the screenplay is by
Allan Heinberg.
A Wonder Woman feature film has been on the table since the late 1990s with multiple scripts having
been written{1}. In Hollywood the presence of strong female ... Show more content on

Although I m not a fan of the insane villain trope for me this takes a slightly interesting twist on said
trope because she is doing a job, not a kind, nice or good job but a job nonetheless.
The thing that worries me about Doctor Poison is that DC (if the character is present in the future) will
go down the overplayed and unhelpful route of her being bitter about her facial injury. After binge
watching many super hero movies it shocks me how the overwhelming majority rely on a villain being
disabled and because of that wanting revenge. It frustrates me the messages these villains send to kids.
I hope that DC in the future continues to explore her as a character but in a way that aids the need for
strong female leads. The questions that need to be asked are What if she lived in a time and place
where women could pursue science and achieve and excel without the blessing, permission, or aid of
men? [And] what if it were possible for her work to garner respect without needing to be connected to
some greater, generally masculine goal? {6}. With the possibility of a sequel DC has a chance to break
the traditional super villain mould and have a well developed character who doesn t need to ask for
forgiveness .

Global Movements Of Western Culture Make an argument that show how Scheld s case and the two other cases you select are examples of the ways in which global movements of commodities, capital and Western culture are modified by local cultural systems. Since the advent of modernisation and the rise of globalisation around the world, issues regarding the cultural homogenisation of the world have arisen. Anthropologists have raised concern about the spread of capitalism as the dominant form of market exchange, the commodification process and the prominence of Western media in contributing the erasure of cultural difference in many areas around the world (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). Many first world leaders during the Cold War believed that emerging nations would become prosperous only if they became capitalist nation states (Schultz and Lavenda 2005, 360). A neo colonialist form of political intervention emerged, as more developed countries believed that it was their duty to teach developing nation states about capitalism, so they can achieve economic success and independence (Schultz and Lavenda 2005, 360). As thus, there is a threat of cultural homogenisation, whereby the dominant cultures of the core, such as America, impose their beliefs, values and cultural products to developing nations, thereby replacing cultural differences with that of the dominant culture (Inda and Rosaldo 2002, 14). Despite the seemingly homogenising process of commodification and capitalism, social transmutations of the capitalist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The middle class consisted of a high percentage of the intellectuals, authors, teachers, and journalists and also they had the most influential voice in the late 19th century (Charlip Burns, 177). One of the most important points about the middle class was that they were not only the true nationalists in Latin America but also they regarded the United States as their model, thus they tried to learn something beneficial from the United Sates for their nation s prosperity and citizens. Functionalist Theory On Gambling If the functionalist theory explains why the percentage of women aged 45 64 who are problem gamblers has increased since 1998, then that would mean women aged 45 64 are discontent with society or feel unable to reach the goals and means set up by society. Gambling, in this case being their harmless expression to their current circumstance. A theory would be that women aged 45 64 are a lot more stressed out by society or circumstances than they were during 1998, which leads to the deviance, in this case gambling, which works as the response to not being able to cope with the stress and expectations put up by society. When people hear about social welfare they generally tend to think about the government assistance programs, and not the other programs such as tax credits or social insurance (Tussing 1974). This paper aims to explain and describe the social welfare programs, as well as show how widespread social welfare is. Midgley defines social welfare as a condition or state of human well being that exists when people s needs are met, problems are managed, and opportunities are maximized (2009). Although, this definition does cover the basic definition of social welfare, Tussing argues that there are two systems within the welfare system and gives a greater understanding of the social insurance system (1974). The stigma that goes along with being associated with social welfare programs generally doesn t include the policies that are in place to assist the non poor. The PowerPoint argues that there are different models to social welfare; residual and institutional and different programs; selective and universal (PowerPoint). Therefor it is cheaper to produce warm mix asphalt. Additional binding materials and additives like wax and emulsions are added to soften the product thus making it easier to spread at low temperatures. They had nothing tying them together until 1815. This is when the Congress of Vienna created the German Confederation, a group of 39 loosely joined German states. The Confederation still had no central government, but delegates would meet once a month to discuss things like mutual laws and policies. The Confederation was mainly a loose political organization who had common allies and enemies (Britannica). Despite having support, Austria was defeated at the Battle of Sadowa (Koniggratz). The Treaty of Prague was created in August of that year and excluded Austria from all German affairs. Throughout the process of creating the Treaty, Bismarck made sure that Austria didn t lose any land. After this, the German Confederation was dissolved and the North German Confederation was formed. The North German Confederation consisted of all of the German states north of the Main river and it was controlled by Prussia. The southern states such as Baden and Bavaria stayed independent, although they had military alliances with Prussia. A main problem that delayed further unification was France, ruled by Napoleon III. Statistical Control Charts Essay Introduction and History of Statistical Process Control Statistical Process Control (SPC) is a method of controlling the quality of a manufacturing process and is most often affiliated with control charts. However, SPC in reality is a group of tools and includes additional statistical and evaluation/measurement methods. Smith, Megahed, Jonesā€Farmer and Clark defined seven basic tools of SPC including; histograms, check sheets, Pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, defect concentration diagrams, scatter diagrams and of course the aforementioned control charts (2014). These tools represent the scope and overall purpose/pursuit of SPC which is; any statistical method designed to detect changes in a process over time (Woodall Montgomery, 1999, p. 377). Since control charts is often the most discussed of these seven tools; it is important to note there are many different types of control charts. The main control charts include; process charts which are R charts and s charts, non conforming item charts also known as p charts and np charts and finally average numbers of non conformity charts or c charts and u charts (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). Statistical Process Control experienced its most significant growth and expansion during the quality revolution in the 1980 s (Woodall Montgomery, 1999). Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes called it The Horrendous Space Kablooie, but many people do not grasp the enormous concept (Milne). How exactly do you prove how time began? A writer for Scientific American put this subject into perspective: If you re religious, this is like looking at God (Milne). That is because it is, although the name Big Bang did not come about until Fred Hoyle jokingly called it the Big Bang while trying to oppose the theory in 1950 (Encarta). Everything makes sense, but how to prove such a beginning? In the 1960s, scientists realized that such a hot and violent beginning must have left a vast wave of heat that can still be traced in small amounts. Not long after this realization, two Bell scientists announced that they had discovered this heat wave, called the cosmic background radiation. They both received the Nobel Prize in 1978 for their findings. These first findings, however, had a few hitches. The cosmic background radiation was found to be fairly smooth and even. It was hard for scientists to figure out how stars and galaxies grouped together with such an even distribution. Once again, with the advance of technology and the challenge of a good problem, scientists went to work. During a press conference in 1992, George Smoot and a few other colleagues announced that they had found these temperature ripples in the cosmic background radiation. So there you have it!
