How Did Edison Change The World
Have you ever wondered how the light bulb works? Do you know the genius brain
behind the creation of the light bulb? It is a simple but really useful thing that can
help us to pass our daily life. Edison is the man. He is one of the greatest inventors
in the history. His creation had changed the world a long time ago. He was known
to be one of the people with the most perseverance and patience. The light bulb we
know today is one of his greatest and most influential inventions. Without his
perseverance and patience, he won t be as successful as the world knows him today.
The light bulb he invented helps us see in the dark.
Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. In his early life, Edison was
known as a poorly educated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edison had tries approximately 1400 times. If he had just given up on his 1399th
tries, we wouldn t have the light bulb to help us see. Edison didn t create the light
bulb itself. Edison was just improvising the entire component in the light bulb so it
can be more useful. Edison invented the incandescent light bulb made up of
carbonized plant fiber for the filament. Incandescent light bulb is an electric light that
produces light with the wire on the middle heated to a high temperature until it can
glow. The light bulb first created had too much energy and not suitable for home use.
Edison wanted to make a more efficient light bulb that is suitable for home use. At
first, Edison uses a platinum filament in the bulb. The light bulb work but it can only
stand for about three and a half hours. Edison then planned to use the tungsten, but he
couldn t do it because lack of tools needed. One day when he was sitting in his lab,
Edison thought of to use a carbon filament. The light bulb works and it can stay
longer, thirteen and a half hours. Since that time, Edison kept on experimenting and
experimenting about the materials used for the filament. He then tried the filament
with the carbonized plant fiber as the filament. As experiment goes by, the amount of

Hybrid Cars Essay
These cars operate from a rechargeable battery and gasoline. The engines are
smaller so that they will be able to accommodate the 99% of time when the car is
not going uphill or accelerating quickly. The battery is used to give extra
acceleration power if needed. When the car is stopped, hybrid gasoline motors can
shut off and run off their electric motor and battery. These cars are aerodynamic
and the tires are often stiffer and inflated higher to reduce dragging. According to a
November 16, 2004 article written in the parents magazine, hybrid cars are no
different from the gas powered car. It can accelerate just as quickly and travel just
as fast on the highway and they are just as safe to drive. When the car comes to a
complete stop,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, if the price of gasoline continue to increase, the hybrid car would be
considered as price inelastic because although the price of the hybrid car may
increase somewhat, the consumer will be able to save money on gas. On the other
hand, if the prices of gas are stabilized, the hybrid car will be considered as price
elastic because if the price of the hybrid cars are on the rise and a conventional car
costs less, the consumer will go with the conventional car. The issues that could
affect the demand for hybrid cars would be if the price of gasoline could be
stabilized at a good price and the price of the hybrid was more expensive or cost
the same as the conventional cars. The consumer would have to decide whether to
purchase a conventional car in which they would have a much bigger selection or
to purchase the hybrid car which has a much smaller selection to choose from. In
this type of scenario, it would just depend on the consumer s preference. Some
strategies that could be used enhance revenue would be to make prices more
competitive, offer a bigger selection of vehicles and enhance advertising strategy.
Makers of the hybrid cars need to evaluate the prices of other cars that are
comparable and base its prices upon those results. Also, creating a bigger selection of
hybrids to choose from would also be a plus. Therefore, if there is a big selection of
these cars,

Essay on Psychodnamic Theory
Ian Curtis was 23 years old when he hung himself in his home in Macclesfield,
England. The events that led to the singers death should have been warning signs
of his plans, but his personality kept him from receiving the help he desperately
needed. Born on July 15th, 1956 in Manchester, England Ian had a considerably
normal childhood to follow. He had one little sister and his working class family
were very tightnit with other family members as well as each other. (Curtis
1995)Ian was a cheerful child who loved to read and socialize with the
neighborhood boys. During his teenage years he became melancholy and wrote
poetry that directly resembled his mood. He spoke of human suffering and
hopelessness. He also began abusing drugs and had... Show more content on

At first his wife thought it was a strange coincidence, but quickly dismissed it as that
once the severity of the illness took hold. (Curtis 1995) Ian was put on several anti
seizure medications and his mood worsened after this and his work in Joy Division
was greatly impaired. He began an affair with a Belgian journalist Annik Honore and
the stress of carrying on both relationships caused his depression to spiral and he
made his first suicide attempt with notes concerning his two relationships. He took
too many of his seizure medications and was released with no talk of aftercare or
psychological treatment of any kind. Eleven months later he succeeded and it was
his wife who noticed the signs and begged him to get help. Ian s friends with whom
he stayed his last weeks with stated that Ian would not leave bed all day and would
engage in violent arguments with them.. He left there to try and save his marriage
and following another violent outburst towards his wife he hung himself after she left
him alone in their Maccelsfield home. Biologically, theorists would want to look at
Ian Curtis family history with depression and whether or not his disorder came
from a genetic predisposition or possibly a result of his seizure disorder. Biological
theorists view abnormal behavior as an illness brought about by malfunctioning parts
of the organism. (Comer 2011) Scientifically this theory could explain several
physiological reasons why Ian behaved the way he did, as
What Is The Current State Of Music Education Across...
This philosophy essay will focus on the current state of music education within
secondary schools across Australia, choosing to address the particular issue of student
access to appropriate levels of information, communication and technology interfaces
(ICT s) within the classroom, and the supporting role they play in music education.
Secondary students do not always have equal opportunities and miss out on music
participation due to conditions surrounding music provision e.g. due to a crowded
curriculum (too many cross curricular activities and subjects), the impact of other
subjects, lack of confidence among music teachers and shortage of resources
(Hoegh Guldberg, 2013). This essay explores how the current lack of availability
and use of ICT s for music education purposes, as well as the general lack of music
technology resources and facilities can have a detrimental effect on student learning,
or lack there of. If students do not have access to the level of technology and support
that they need to adhere to certain technological requirements in the Australian
Curriculum, then they are deprived of the full benefit of teaching and learning in a
modern technological era.
Recently in Australia, both the National Review of the School of Music Education
and The Australian Curriculum have identified the importance of technology in
school music education (Southcott Crawford, 2011). Along with this, independent
surveys provide an accurate glimpse at the status of
Duality In Cannery Row
Cannery Row: A Literary Excavation on Duality Cannery Row is a town located
in Monterey, California. Despite being small, dirty and crowded, it is a well
functioned town and is home to people from different walks of life. In the novel s
prologue, John Steinbeck wrote the following: Its inhabitants are, as one man
once said, whores, pimps, gamblers, and sons of bitches by which he meant
Everybody and [have] the man looked through another peephole he might have
said: Saints and angels and martyrs and holy men, and he would have meant the
same thing (Steinbeck 1). He basically comments that the difference in viewpoints
given the same event results from the power of perspective and duality observed in
people. One might see Cannery Row as a low down place while the others might
see Cannery Row as a lively, vigorous town. One would see a character s actions
disputable while the others would see their behaviors admirable. The viewpoints of
the readers and the way characters behave at various times explain the fact that
Cannery Row and its inhabitants possess qualities crossing good and evil.
Cannery Row begins with the character Lee Chong, a small grocery owner that
supplies the town. Lee was depicted as a kind and generous man, and his good
nature was reflected through his appearance and personality. Steinbeck states that
[his] mouth was full and benevolent and the flash of gold when he smiled was rich
and warm (Steinbeck 7). This simple passage gives us a clear first
The Importance Of Direct Behavior Rating
Direct Behavior Rating Classroom Management
Ms. Nelson is a second grade teacher at ABC Elementary. Ms. Nelson was self
referred as she was concerned about her student s engagment. She was observed on 02
/25/2016 using the Direct Behavior Rating Classroom Management: external Rater
Form (DBR CM ER) for 20 minutes. The DBR CM ER involves the observer
recording ratings in five categories: classroom structure, praise, communication,
enthusiasm, and rapport. During the beginning of the observation, Ms. Nelson s
students were seated on a carpet, and she was reading a story and discussing it with
the students. After the students completed their reading activity, they were split into
stations. The students either went to an independent math station, computerized
reading station, guided reading station with the teacher, or spelling station.
Classroom Structure
Ms. Nelson s classroom was arranged in a way that allowed students move without
disruption. The desks where in a u shape. She had a carpet in front of the smart
board where the students appeared to have assigned spots. A computer station was
set up in the back of the classroom where Ms. Nelson was able to easily monitor her
student s activity. Her room also had colorful posters with content related material and

question, many students excitedly raised their hands to answer. She also provided the
students with the opportunity to discuss questions with partners. When the students
were in stations, Ms. Nelson was working with two students for guided reading. She
kept the students engaged in the reading by having them spell certain words on their

Rites Of Passage Analysis
Think of a monumental time in your life. Your monumental time in your life is
probably different to an Apache girl, Dachina, and the main character, Martin, in a
story the medicine bag. In Dachina s rite of passage is doing by doing a four day
tradition to become a women. During the four day she has to do stuff like, dance for
ten hours straight. Then, in Martin s rite of passagehis grandpa comes to give him the
medicine bag. During this, Grandpa is dying so he has to give Martin the medicine
bag before he dies. In my essay I explain, the similarities and differences between the
two rites of passage. I also explain, the advantages and disadvantages between video
and text.
There are a lot of similarities and differences between the medicine bag and the
apache girl. To start off, a similarity of these two rites of passage are that they are
both about a monumental time in the apache girl, Dachina, and the main character,
Martin, in the medicine bag. Like the Dachina s monumental time in her life is the
ritual to become a women. In addition to that, Martin s monumental time in his life
getting the medicine bag from his grandpa. Another similarity between the two
stories it that they both need their family to make the rites of passage possible. For
example, Martin need his grandpa to give him the medicine bag for him to
experience getting the medicine bag. Also, Dachina needs her family to help her to
get through the four day ritual like, they had to help prepare the food for
Education Act Of 1944 And The Beginning Of The
National...
Education in Great Britain has always been a hot topic for discussion and over the
years the education system has undergone many changes. This has been down to the
political party in power at the time, pressures of a changing society and the
subsequent rise and fall of the national economy. The purpose of this essay is to look
at how these factors have affected and developed secondary educationin Great Britain
starting with a brief overview of the pre 1900 s. Moving through the years in
chronological order, the essay will consider various Education Acts and reports, the
effect of two World Wars and the controversial Butler Education Act of 1944 when the
tripartite systemwas introduced. Prior to 1900 secondary education was virtually
non existent, the consensus view at that time was that secondary education was
only for boys of the middle and upper classes. The few schools available were fee
paying and therefore only an option to those who could afford them. This fuelled
the gap in social status and in the opinion of Marxists kept the lower classes in their
place so as not to disrupt the economic and social balance. In the 1860 s there were
no grammar schools for girls, however due to a slight change in the views of
society by 1900 eighty girls schools had been created (Stephens, 1998). The 1870 s
saw the development of some of higher grade schools, these had a scientific and
technical bias and grants were provided for those whose pupils were successful in the

and care settings in Australia. This essay will introduce five key influences on the
establishing of education and care settings in Australia, the similarities and
differences between the Quality Improvement Accreditation System (QIAS) and the
current National Quality Framework (NQF).
Maybanke Anderson and Lillian de Lissa as well as other people were pioneer who

The Commonwealth facilitated childcare by introducing standardized fee relief
for children in uncommercial center based long day care centers in 1984 (Social

Commonwealth funded childcare places and the purpose was to help low income
families or median income households with the expenses of quality child care
services (Social Policy Group, 1995). From 1985 to 1987, more childcare services
were provided, for example, approximately 11000 new center based long day care
places and 5650 family day care places were afforded (Social Policy Group, 1997

be benefited due to its strictly targeted nature (Social Policy Group,
Free Speech And Hate Speech
In elementary school, it would probably be the first time you would understand
what a debate is and how the roots of it is expressing different opinions between
others. This has been the way we functioned throughout our society to settle higher
figures, laws, and wars. Our college communities is the ideal place of free speech of
the young minds yet things have changed recently. There will always be some
restrictions to what can be said at a college campus, yet the first amendment is being
debated to be recommitted at campuses. Censorshipwill always be in effect to an
extent because of how it can progress into an hate speechor threats, yet it isn t bad
policy to let people of the newer generation with different perspectives speak their
own opinions. Free speech is the building block of our human rights which
corresponds with us improving and progressing Free speech has allowed us learn and
change based on the exchanging of ideas.
During the 1790 s, the amendments were added to the constitution. The very first
amendment s stated the basics liberties of all people such as freedom of religion,
press, and speech. The foundation of how we communicate and strive for
improvement is from the first amendments because of how we can express our ideas
to each other even if they may be different from each other. The national government
would not be able to abuse their power that the old constitution has stated. Since then,
free speech has been as important as ever to being able to

As I stepped out of the car, the smell of the hot asphalt hit me. I heard the low rumble
of voices and the high pitched screaming of babies. Mothers were hustling their
children toward the stadium. Little boys with their favorite team plastered on their
shirts ran past me, eager to enter the ballpark. Nearing the ticket booth, the smell of
popcorn wafted through the gates. This was the ultimate way to spend a summer
night, at a baseballgame.
After paying our way to get in, my dad and I found our seats. It was my birthday
and my father had a special treat in store. He had gotten us front row seats, a very
rare occasion for me. Son! Let s go, the game is about to start, said my father. We

Both teams desperately needed those few points to claim victory. We re only
looking at one more home run to advance to the playoffs, said my dad excitedly.
The stadium became unusually quiet when our batter stepped up to the plate. The
visiting team s catcher signaled the pitcher. In slow motion, I saw the pitcher
throw a fastball and a few seconds that seemed like minutes went by, and I heard a
crack. The loudest, wood shattering crack of the game. I looked up and the ball was
on it s way over the fence into the crowd towards me. I raised my glove up with a
small hope of catching it. Come on son, you got this. This one s yours! yelled my
dad. A second later I felt something smack my glove. I was in utter disbelief, and
everyone cheered around me. This night had gotten so much better than it already
was. The game was over, we had won. Fireworks erupted above the stadium and lit
up the night sky like it was daytime. We did it son, we did it! We re going to the

I couldn t wait for the moment we would return. But this time, it would be the
The Foundations Of Modern Conservatism
The foundations of modern conservatism have always been nebulous. It is less a
defined set of principles than a reactionary disdain for change and bleary eyed
nostalgia for some imaginary pastoral paradise one might find in a Nicolas Poussin
painting. Its spongy basis and hazy boundaries are conservatism s strength. It lets
conservatives co opt and abandon virtually any issue at will
When Ronald Reagan was in office, he enjoyed the title of The Great
Communicator. It was a title he earned, and conservatives embraced his oratorical
skills as a valuable asset. By the time Bill Clinton brought his own superior
communication skills to the office of the President, conservatives attacked him for
being too touchy feely. The good became the bad, with no reference to coherence.
If conservatism can be said to have guiding principles, Russell Kirk has probably
constructed the most plausible list of them. I won t rehash what he has already done,
but I will draw your attention specifically to the fifth and six entries on his list. His
fifth principle, which he dubs the principle of variety, holds that:
For the preservation of a healthy diversity in any civilization, there must survive
orders and classes, differences in material condition, and many sorts of inequality.
Mind you, Kirk isn t making a descriptive statement here about how thing actually
are, but rather making a prescriptive statement about how things should be. Even

Feste Twelfth Night
Essay 1
Feste is a typical Shakespearean fool in the Twelfth Night. Feste works for both
Olivia and Duke Orisino. He is shown as witty person who entertains everyone
with his jokes, dancing and singing. Fool s character is very ironic to his name
because he is the wisest person in the whole Illyria who outshines everyone with
his humour and wit. In his presence the mood of the environment becomes lighter
and everybody have a good time. He moves easily between upper class and lower
class in the whole play. He disguise himself as Sir Topas which very unusual for a
lower class man. He also challenges the upper class hierarchy by working according

Feste as the name suggests includes festivity and embodies the festive spirit perfectly.
Besides humour and wit he sings melodies and pictures the state of higher class
people in the play. For example he sings a song O Mistress Mine, where are you
roaming? which depicts the wait for the true love. The song could be applied to the
love relationship between Orisino and Olivia and also between Olivia and Cesario.
The song suggests that Orisino s wait will be over when he could marry Olivia and
Olivia s journey would end when she gets Cesario. Another song would be Farewell,
dear heart, since I must needs be gone sung in the party by both Sir Toby Belch and
Feste. The song ideally talks about approaching death but in this case it is referred to
Malvolio who is not liked by both Feste and Sir Toby Belch. Malvolio has been
compared to an evil or antagonist because of his rude behaviour toward everyone
including upper class people, also of his fondness for Olivia and a happiness spoiler
whereas he is just a steward. Because nobody likes Malvolio he is been asked to
leave the party in a comical and witty way which could be justified by the line said
by Sir Toby Belch in Act 2 Scene 3 Shall I bid him go, and spare not and a reply from

Comparison, the student is shown two numbers, and asked to select the larger of the
two. This is a relatively easy task, but the speed at which students select the answer
can contribute to the diagnosis of dyscalculia. The final test is the Academic
Achievement Test. This is a test with addition for younger students, with
multiplication added for older students. Basic math problems are shown, with the
answer. Students must decide whether or not the answer given is correct. Like the
other tests, the problems are easy, but the reaction time is a key determinant in the
diagnosis. The results at completion are given as a standard score, and are displayed
on the computer in printable form. Dyspraxia Dyspraxia is the partial loss of the

Effects of False Appearances Essay
Effects of false appearances
Appearances can be seen as impressions given by someone else. Perception plays a
big part on how appearances are misleading. In The Imposter Bride, by Nancy
Richler, Yanna s perception of herself and the Kramer family s perception of her
lead to the destruction of their lives. In Life of Pi, by Yann Martel, Pi creates a false
appearance which helps him cope with the tragedy he endures. In One Flew Over
the Cuckoo s Nest, by Ken Kesey, the main characters create false appearances to
hide their true intentions. The novels show that false appearances lead to
psychological problems. The psychological problems caused by false appearances are
regret, loss of identity and lack of self worth.
Regret is a psychological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

more ... Why do we cling to our evil ways? (Martel 344). This confirms the fact that
the cook regrets killing Pi s mother so he feels that his life should be ended as a
punishment for the inhumane action he commits. The false appearance the cook
portrays which is, having no morals, was false because he regrets murdering Pi s
mother. Pi in the text seems to be a religious and an individual with moral values
but that is false because his true self emerges when he kills the cook. Pi says that
He was such an evil man. Worst still he met the evil in me selfishness, anger and
ruthlessness. I must live with that (Martel 345). The cook brings out a side of Pi
that Pi did not want to believe was there, so he regrets letting his emotions take
over him. This reveals that Pi is not as holy as he seems and hates the fact that he
had committed an evil deed, so he creates the story of him being stranded on the
lifeboat for two hundred and twenty seven days with a tiger which makes him seem
heroic.
Likewise, in One that Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest McMurphy regrets creating a
false appearance because it leads to his downfall. When McMurphy gets to know the

Personal Narrative On Thanksgiving
Not so thankful for what happened on thanksgiving. On Thursday, November 26,

meet the guys that I was intending to go black friday shopping with later that
evening I assumed. Thanksgiving morning, I had asked my friends Ceejay ,Alex, and
Collin to come over on Thanksgiving. They arrived and my mom had introduced
herself to them and was joking around with them.
You guys are not troublemakers are you? mom said jokingly. No, mam we are going
to try our best to stay safe when shopping and to not cause any trouble tonight said
Collin.

Refletorical Analysis Of Admira Admiral Mcraven s Speech
In the speech that I just watched Admiral McRaven first talked about the
importance of making my bed in the morning. His lesson behind making my bed in
the morning stood for the little things. I believe what he said because I believe the
little things do add up. The little things will inspire me to do bigger things and then
those things will inspire me to do even bigger things and before I know it I will be
doing huge things that will affect the whole world. During the speech Admiral
McRaven talked about the importance of having trustworthy people to help you row

In Admiral McRaven s speech he talks about being your best in your darkest moment.
I think that is very important. I think it shows really great character when you re your

Shrek Symbolic Interactionism Essay
The movie, Shrek, displays several examples of symbolic interactionism through
fictional creatures. The symbolic interactions in this movie explain the relationships
between ogres and society, ogres and fairytale creatures, and fairytale creatures and
society, as odd as they may be in the fictional world. The founders of symbolic
interactionism, Charles Horton Cooley and George Herbert Mead, defined this
perspective as symbols things to which we attach meaning are the keys to
understanding how we view the world and communicate with one another. Shreks
first relationship was with society. In this relationship, Shrek was the monster, ugly,

Essay about The True Tragic Hero of Creon in Sophocles ...
The True Tragic Hero of Creon in Sophocles Antigone
There has always been a great debate over who is the true tragic hero in Sophocles
Antigone. Many scholars would stake claim to Antigone possessing all the necessary
characteristics of a true tragic hero, but many others would argue that Creon holds
many qualities as well. It is hard to discount Antigone as a tragic hero, because in
fact, the play bears her name, but from careful reading, Creon meets Aristotle s
criteria exactly and fits perfectly into the role. In order to determine whether or not
Creon is the true tragic hero, one must answer the question: What is a Tragic Hero?
In Aristotle s Poetics, he discusses the basic criteria regarding a tragic hero. Aristotle

Creon said, ?...And whoever places a friend above the good of his own county, he
is nothing: I have no use for him.? (203 205). Again, his high standards and honor
for his country are shown in great detail: ?I could never stand by silent, watching
destruction march against our city, putting safety to rout? (207 208). Creon shows
a high sense of morality when he properly buried Eteocles, and then is showing his
noble character by not burying Polyneices, who attacked Creon?s country; again
his value of his country is shown. Creon is a good ruler because he like any king
would punish evil and reward good. Creon is seen by the chorus to have
?goodness? and leadership. (Lines 691). The chorus praises Creon for his loyalty
to the country after the great war, they look forward to his kingly rule and nobility
in the future by saying, ?. . . Creon, the new man for the great new day?(Lines 173).
Love of his country and his punishment of Polyneices show this great nobility and
loyalty talked about by the chorus. Clearly Creon qualifies under the first criterion of
being a tragic hero.
The second criterion for being a tragic hero is that one is neither purely evil nor
pre eminently great. Although Creon possesses many good kingly qualities, as far
a honor and nobility, his imperfection lies in his excessive pride and hubris, as well
as his self indulgence as King of Thebes. Creon shows his power and pride

The Oil Spill Of 2010
Due to high costs of oil, many countries have taken the act of turning to renewable
energy sources. Burning fossil fuels also has a downside to the environment,
polluting the air and water, and damaging the health of plants and animals. The BP
Oil spill of 2010 is one example of how dangerous fossil fuels are when they are
exposed to the environment. There is much controversy in the United States for
renewable energysources being funded, but the facts are on the rise. Having a cleaner
and more efficient source of energy is important for both environmental, political, and
financial reasons.
What exactly is renewable energy? In the terms of The Natural Resources Defense
Council (NRDC, 2015), renewable energy comes from sources that can be
replenished easily. Solar power, wind energy, hydroelectricity, geothermal, and
biomass energy are all examples of this. All of these sources can be replenished, or
renewed naturally. Wind energy is free of pollution and costs about the same as
electricity from coal. Solar energy is growing cheaper, and is used in many every
day appliances. Biomass energy uses materials such as wood, corn, soy, and
sometimes animal waste. It takes time for biomass energy to grow, but it is a
critical renewable resource. Hydroelectricity is energy produced by flowing water
and accounts for six percent of America s electric supply (NRDC, 2015). If we can
make the transition to a future of cleaner energy sources, we can eliminate our
dependence on fossil
Verbal And Non Verbal Communication
Communication is the art of transmitting ideas, thoughts ad knowledge from one
person to another. Communication need not essentially mean verbal communication.
Communication can be verbal and non verbal. Non Verbal Communication is the
practiced means of interaction amongst the audibly challenged community. This
audibly challenged community uses a region or country specific sign language to
communicate their ideas and wants. Sign Language Translators are essential to
bridge the communication gap between the audibly challenged community and the
rest of the world. Today a lot of systems are being funded and built to computerize
the work of Sign Language Translator. These Sign Language Recognition Systems
are Learning Systems. When the system fails to recognize the word, the system
attempts to learn the sign or gesture and recognizes when the same sign is
performed later on. There are many different types of Sign Languages and as
mentioned these languages are very region specific i.e., Indian Sign Language (ISL),
American Sign Language (ASL), etc. Each of the sign language holds a large
collection of signs or gestures corresponding to a particular. Many a time, there might
be different gestures for the same word. Major issue with these Sign Languages is
that the information available about the gestures are multichannel. This paper focuses
on recognizing Indian Sign Language. In ISL there has been no standardized
dictionary as of date to use and build Recognition Systems. The

age of eight he moved to Brussels where he started studying art. In 1912, Masson

Learning is the activity that all of us have to do during our life. We gain from the

to survive and live typically in this world. Various people go to schools to expansion

ways furnish us with much profitable learning. On the other hand, as I would see it, I

Capabilities are a record of what you have adapted, however they are not important
to a large portion of what you have to know to live ordinarily in this world.
Recollecting hypotheses is not everything, you need to search for approaches to
apply it to your true employment and your commonplace life that is the point at
which you are learning.
Essentially, information from books and learning as a matter of fact have the same
source, which is the genuine living. While experience is the thing that individuals get
from their general surroundings, books are records of it. People have never quit
viewing and considering things around them and they have attempted to safeguard
the information they got from numerous points of view, including books. Individuals
from everywhere throughout the world have gone numerous spots and seen

Biblical Leaders Research Paper

biblical leaders need to have is faith in God. All biblical leaders show how faithful
they are to God. Some of them show it a little more extreme then others. Like the

Fahrenheit 451 And Tobias Wolfr Swot Analysis
Many people have important jobs because they are trustworthy, they have great
ideas, and they know how to take control of different situations. On the other hand,
some people in charge are not worthy of their spot and do not always do or say what
is right. In In Pharaoh s Army, Tobias Wolff shows that the authorities are not always
in the right place to make a decision. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradburyhas a different
way of showing that the authorities aren t always right. In Fahrenheit 451, the
authorities often lie to make their new reality easier for the community or people to
cope with the situation. Tobias Wolff
and Ray Bradbury both have a very different
way of portraying thoughts, but they both give the same message when the
authorities are not always right. Pete Landon is a Foreign Service Officer and he
does not always do what is right, especially to the people around him. Pete started

Essay about Sun Tzu vs. The Wisdom of the Desert
Sun Tzu vs. The Wisdom of the Desert In the many forms it may take, conflict has
been with the human race since the beginning of time. Conflict may occur within the
self or with other; it has caused wars and created strife throughout whole countries as
well as in the lives of individuals. The world has never not known conflict, yet many
still seem to be distraught when it occurs in their realm. Conquering conflict then
seems to be the conflict itself. Whether the conflict is spiritual or militaristic,
resolving and conquering it sometimes uses the same tactics. The Art of Warand The

When speaking of tactics, Sun Tzu wrote:
He wins his battles by making no mistakes. Making no mistakes is what establishes
the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated.
(Clavell 1983, 7)
So if the commander is thoroughly able to carry out his plans, he will have beaten
the enemy before stepping onto the battlefield. Sun Tzu argued that success was in
the hands of the commander since, the consummate leader cultivates the Moral
Law and strictly adheres to method and discipline; thus it is in his power to
control success. (Clavell 1983, 20) Strategy is key to success, not just in war but
in any aspect of life. The monks who lived in lived in the desert felt strategy was
important, but used it in an entirely different context. Their strategy was to avoid
conflict at all costs and if it did occur, then it should be resolved peacefully. At the
same that they advocated peace, the desert fathers also felt the conflict with evil

Yeats mean by Byzantium? How are the two poems on this subject related to each
other? Byzanium is a cultural Mecca. To Yeats it represents art, civilization, and
rejuvenation. Byzantium is a place where old souls can go to be strengthened and
supported. It is both a physical place in the sense that it did exist and post dated
Rome, and also a metaphysical place where one s spirit can flourish much like in
heaven. The poems Sailing to Byzantium and Byzantium relate to each other in
subject and in time. The former of the two concerns an individual s journey to
Byzantium, while the latter is about the individual s experiences upon arrival. If
Sailing concerns his trip to heaven, then Byzantium regards his stay. In form the
two poems are identical: each consists of four stanzas of eight lines each. The
rhyming patter does differ though each does have a pattern. The use of metaphor
and symbolism is prevalent in each. A bird is referenced in both, perhaps to allude
to youth in the first poem, but in the second poem it is a golden bird
Character Analysis Of Ponyboy Curtis In The Outsiders
Change your thoughts and you change your world. Norman Vincent Peale. In the
novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the main character Ponyboy Curtis encounters
life changes. Pony s attitude towards his older brother Darry adjusted to a more
lovable family due to a memorial event.
In the beginning of The Outsiders, Pony felt confused and despised around his
brother. According to Ponyboy, he states, I never could please him. He would have
hollered at me for carrying a blade if I had carried one. If I brought home B s, he
wanted A s. If I was playing football, I should be studying, and if I was reading, I
should be out playing football (13). Pony feels that no matter what, he d never

hot as I but my lip. Darry...what was Darry like?...I burst out bitterly: ... He likes
Soda everybody likes Soda but he can t stand me. I bet he wishes he could stick me
in a home somewhere, and he d do it, too, if Soda d let him (42). Pony s negative

What Is The Limitations Of The Seat Test
Independent Claims 1 and 10, and dependent Claims 2 6, 8, 11, and 13 14 are
currently rejected under 35 U.S.C. В§102(b) as being anticipated by Fox (U.S.
Patent No.: 6,733,064; hereafter Fox ). The rejections are respectfully traversed.
Amended independent Claim 1 includes the limitation of the impact pad including
a frame contact surface that matches a contour of the seat back frame. Applicants
specification states, [t]he impact pad (28) includes a pad body (30) which defines
a frame contact surface (32). The illustrated frame contact surface (32) is formed to
substantially match a contour of the seat back frame (24) in order to nest the impact
pad (28) with the seat back frame (24) (Para. [0020]). Looking to Figs. 2 4, this nested

[0023]; Figs. 5 6). Fox fails to disclose the above limitations. The Examiner, on
page 2 of the current Office Action, points to adjacent ribs (124) that extend from
the pad body and define a contact surface. However, Fox discloses an absorbing
member (124) that includes a plurality of tabs (128). The tabs (128) of absorbing
member (124) disclosed by Fox are not the same as the support ribs (142) disclosed
in Applicants specification. Additionally, nowhere in Fox is it disclosed that the tabs
(128) or the absorbing member (124) define a frame contact surface. In this regard,
Applicants respectfully assert dependent Claim 2 is further allowable over Fox.
Amended independent Claim 10 is currently amended to include the limitation of
an inner foam surface being contoured to the seat back frame. Fox fails to disclose
the above limitation. Instead, Fox discloses foam blocks (A) in the corners of the
seat back shell (B) between the seat back shell (B) and the structural frame (C)
(Col. 2, Lines 17 22; Fig. 25). Nowhere in Fox is it disclosed to have an inner foam
surface contoured to the seat back frame, as included in Applicants amended
independent Claim 10. In this regard, Applicants respectfully assert amended
independent Claim 10 is allowable over Fox. Dependent Claims 11 15 depend from
amended independent Claim 10, and for at least the reason set forth above, are also
allowable.

The Chinese Royal Court
Paper has been around for centuries, dating back as far as 105 A.D., when it was
invented by members of the Chinese royal court. Ever since its innovation, paper
has steadily grown to be extremely important in the daily lives of different societies
and cultures across the globe today. Here in America for example, it can easily be
said that the average person consumes some form of paperevery single day. Our
society revolves around the consumption of paper. It is involved in many aspects
of daily life, such as our food, our education, our hygiene, to decorate and clean our
homes, our occupations, our recreational activities, art, and even in holiday
traditions such as gift wrapping and cards. Paper is even used as the main form of
exchange in our country, and therefore in a sense it could be said that America
runs on paper. Being a current college student, paper is more vital in my life than it
has ever been before. On average, I consume at least 20 sheets of paper most days
of the week, between note taking and printing lecture slides or homework
assignments. For this reason, I decided that sheet paper would be an interesting
topic to perform a commodity chain analysis on. I have always consumed it daily,
but I came to realize that I do not know much about what goes into producing it, and
what it takes to get it into my notebooks and printer. Besides using paper for my
education, I too like every other American use paper daily for many other things like
money, hygiene, food,
Urban Legend Bloody Mary
Children are constantly searching for news ways to have fun. This is the period
when children need to satisfy their craving for excitement by participating in ritual
games and playing in the dark. They are constantly looking for a safe way to
extract pleasure and release anxiety and fears (Mikkelson). Many children find
themselves jumping into mischievous behavior to keep themselves busy whether it
is being destructive, pranking a friend, or being apart of ritual games. These are some
ways for children to cope with their boredom.. This is also probably one of the
reasons why kids would risk conjuring up a evil spirit looking for revenge. Mirrors
and reflections in general have always been held in fearand awe, and consequently
been linked... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though some aspects of the original story have changed the story is still being
told in countless versions. Bloody Mary has played on people s desire for excitement
and it is also a way to release anxiety and experience some safe fear. With so much
talk about the Bloody Mary legend over the many decades and versions, it s a
challenge to really analyze its cultural symbolism, because it s different from culture
to culture. However, it is possible to theorize a single interpretation by examining the
more pointed points thatcomprise the legend together. The ritual is almost always
carried out by children, most commonly girls, in a dark bathroom, by means of a
chant. A woman then appears in the mirror, most typically with malicious intentions.
The legend of Bloody Mary seems to resurrect with children s comingof age. The
children most enticed by the myth are adolescent children from the ages of nine to
twelve. Children at this age look for excitement and try to find independent freedom,
sometimes in the wrong places. Bloody Mary is the true meaning for exciting fun
and a feel good rush. The way for satisfying this newfound craving for excitement
sometimes means breaking the rules a little. Opposite of the rules we are taught as
children. We are taught as children that when somebody break
Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay
People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to
conflict through lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with
Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler youth.
Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would
be from the Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl
and her family hiding from the Nazis. She details her experiences in the annex as
well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others around her. Essentially, Anne
and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even been many
times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would
be taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict.
People may lie to save themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a
sort of goal, whether it be good or bad. It seems to be a very common way of
responding to conflict.
Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or
scheme to get what you want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and
her family hid in the annex. This, like I said before, was to escape the Nazis and
concentration camps. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It means listening to whomever you need to and doing things even if you don t
agree with them to survive. Many people, in any situation where conflict presents
itself, will follow a leader even if they know it s wrong to protect themselves or
their family. This is the case with HItler Youth . The excerpt describes how life
was for some people living under Hitler. Boys would join the Hitler youth program
and schools had to follow a Hitler approved curriculum. The teachers did not agree
with the new curriculum however they followed it for fear of being fired or sent to a
concentration camp. One case explained how a teacher was talking bad about the
curriculum. The Hitler youth came in and harassed the teacher some even
Chemical Engineering Career Fair Report
Going to the NCSU Engineering Career Fair was both an intimidating and exciting
experience. As a freshman with a Chemical Engineering Intent looking at
companies, I was very intimidated yet intrigued by the mass amount of companies
represented at the career fair. Investigating the companies prior to the career fair, I
narrowed my list down to three chemical engineering companies: EcoLab, Merck,
and GSK. EcoLab was the first company I talked to. The company focuses on
providing clean water, sustainable energy, and safe food to the market through
research and development. Their summer recruiting was taking place at the career
fair. They took my resume and said they would send out an email in the evening for
prospective internship interviews that would take place the following day. Since I did
not receive an email from them, I presume that it is not possible for me to get an
internship position with them for this upcoming summer. Like many other companies
that were represented at the career fair, they mainly were looking to recruit
upperclassmen (juniors and seniors). If given the opportunity, I would like to intern
with them in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it seemed that most companies were seeking to recruit upperclassmen with
experience, it was comforting to know that there will be many options available once
I gain more experience. Additionally, it was very interesting to see how many
different applications one engineering degree has. For example, with a chemical
engineering degree, one can go into producing more sustainable methods of dealing
with waste, manufacturing drugs and other healthcare products to go into the market,
or researching new vaccines and antibiotics. By going to the career fair, I became
more comfortable with my intended major of chemical engineering and learned that
regardless of which chemical engineering concentration I pursue, there will always be
options open in the job

syntactic structure and inflectional morphology. Throughout this paper, the main
variety of Arabic to be syntactically investigated is Hijazi Arabic which is spoken
mainly in the Hijaz region, the western coast of Saudi Arabia.
There are two basic types of sentences in Hijazi Arabic, the nominal sentence which
starts with a noun, and the verbal sentence which starts with a verb (Mohammad,

In 1993, Chipotle first launched their restaurant. Their vision was to demonstrate that

A statement from Jeff Einhorn, who headed a hedge fund came out about a
percentage of customers most likely returning to Taco Bell that are Chipotle
customers based on price and convenience (Pearce Robinson, 2015). This was an
indicator to him that Chipotle was at risk of losing its frequent customers. The day
the statement came out stocks to a 4 percent dip. In 2015, Chipotle sale growth
fell dramatically from 19.8 percent to 2.6 percent due to its national known E. coli
issues (www.cnbc.com). Since the news of the outbreak, sales in comparison have
taken a dip in the double digits. Recently, in February of 2016, Chipotle took a day
to close all stores in the U.S for a few hours with the purpose of starting a new
marketing campaign which focuses on Safety standards (abc7ny.com). After recent,
E. coli and norovirus breakouts, the strategy was necessary to win back its customers

His creation had changed the world a long time ago. He was known to be one of the people with the most perseverance and patience. Edison invented the incandescent light bulb made up of carbonized plant fiber for the filament. Incandescent light bulb is an electric light that produces light with the wire on the middle heated to a high temperature until it can glow. The light bulb first created had too much energy and not suitable for home use. Edison wanted to make a more efficient light bulb that is suitable for home use. At first, Edison uses a platinum filament in the bulb. The light bulb work but it can only stand for about three and a half hours. Edison then planned to use the tungsten, but he couldn t do it because lack of tools needed. One day when he was sitting in his lab, Edison thought of to use a carbon filament. The light bulb works and it can stay longer, thirteen and a half hours. Since that time, Edison kept on experimenting and experimenting about the materials used for the filament. • 3. Hybrid Cars Essay These cars operate from a rechargeable battery and gasoline. The engines are smaller so that they will be able to accommodate the 99% of time when the car is not going uphill or accelerating quickly. The battery is used to give extra acceleration power if needed. When the car is stopped, hybrid gasoline motors can shut off and run off their electric motor and battery. These cars are aerodynamic and the tires are often stiffer and inflated higher to reduce dragging. According to a November 16, 2004 article written in the parents magazine, hybrid cars are no different from the gas powered car. It can accelerate just as quickly and travel just as fast on the highway and they are just as safe to drive. When the car comes to a complete stop,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, if the price of gasoline continue to increase, the hybrid car would be considered as price inelastic because although the price of the hybrid car may increase somewhat, the consumer will be able to save money on gas. On the other hand, if the prices of gas are stabilized, the hybrid car will be considered as price elastic because if the price of the hybrid cars are on the rise and a conventional car costs less, the consumer will go with the conventional car. The issues that could affect the demand for hybrid cars would be if the price of gasoline could be stabilized at a good price and the price of the hybrid was more expensive or cost the same as the conventional cars. The consumer would have to decide whether to purchase a conventional car in which they would have a much bigger selection or to purchase the hybrid car which has a much smaller selection to choose from. In this type of scenario, it would just depend on the consumer s preference. Some strategies that could be used enhance revenue would be to make prices more competitive, offer a bigger selection of vehicles and enhance advertising strategy. Makers of the hybrid cars need to evaluate the prices of other cars that are comparable and base its prices upon those results. Also, creating a bigger selection of hybrids to choose from would also be a plus. Therefore, if there is a big selection of these cars,

The events that led to the singers death should have been warning signs of his plans, but his personality kept him from receiving the help he desperately needed. Born on July 15th, 1956 in Manchester, England Ian had a considerably normal childhood to follow. He had one little sister and his working class family were very tightnit with other family members as well as each other. At first his wife thought it was a strange coincidence, but quickly dismissed it as that once the severity of the illness took hold. (Curtis 1995) Ian was put on several anti seizure medications and his mood worsened after this and his work in Joy Division was greatly impaired. He began an affair with a Belgian journalist Annik Honore and the stress of carrying on both relationships caused his depression to spiral and he made his first suicide attempt with notes concerning his two relationships. He took too many of his seizure medications and was released with no talk of aftercare or psychological treatment of any kind. Eleven months later he succeeded and it was his wife who noticed the signs and begged him to get help. Ian s friends with whom he stayed his last weeks with stated that Ian would not leave bed all day and would engage in violent arguments with them.. He left there to try and save his marriage and following another violent outburst towards his wife he hung himself after she left him alone in their Maccelsfield home. Biologically, theorists would want to look at Ian Curtis family history with depression and whether or not his disorder came from a genetic predisposition or possibly a result of his seizure disorder. Biological theorists view abnormal behavior as an illness brought about by malfunctioning parts of the organism. (Comer 2011) Scientifically this theory could explain several physiological reasons why Ian behaved the way he did, as
  • 7. What Is The Current State Of Music Education Across... This philosophy essay will focus on the current state of music education within secondary schools across Australia, choosing to address the particular issue of student access to appropriate levels of information, communication and technology interfaces (ICT s) within the classroom, and the supporting role they play in music education. Secondary students do not always have equal opportunities and miss out on music participation due to conditions surrounding music provision e.g. due to a crowded curriculum (too many cross curricular activities and subjects), the impact of other subjects, lack of confidence among music teachers and shortage of resources (Hoegh Guldberg, 2013). This essay explores how the current lack of availability and use of ICT s for music education purposes, as well as the general lack of music technology resources and facilities can have a detrimental effect on student learning, or lack there of. If students do not have access to the level of technology and support that they need to adhere to certain technological requirements in the Australian Curriculum, then they are deprived of the full benefit of teaching and learning in a modern technological era. Recently in Australia, both the National Review of the School of Music Education and The Australian Curriculum have identified the importance of technology in school music education (Southcott Crawford, 2011). Along with this, independent surveys provide an accurate glimpse at the status of
  • 8. Duality In Cannery Row Cannery Row: A Literary Excavation on Duality Cannery Row is a town located in Monterey, California. Despite being small, dirty and crowded, it is a well functioned town and is home to people from different walks of life. In the novel s prologue, John Steinbeck wrote the following: Its inhabitants are, as one man once said, whores, pimps, gamblers, and sons of bitches by which he meant Everybody and [have] the man looked through another peephole he might have said: Saints and angels and martyrs and holy men, and he would have meant the same thing (Steinbeck 1). He basically comments that the difference in viewpoints given the same event results from the power of perspective and duality observed in people. One might see Cannery Row as a low down place while the others might see Cannery Row as a lively, vigorous town. One would see a character s actions disputable while the others would see their behaviors admirable. The viewpoints of the readers and the way characters behave at various times explain the fact that Cannery Row and its inhabitants possess qualities crossing good and evil. Cannery Row begins with the character Lee Chong, a small grocery owner that supplies the town. Lee was depicted as a kind and generous man, and his good nature was reflected through his appearance and personality. Steinbeck states that [his] mouth was full and benevolent and the flash of gold when he smiled was rich and warm (Steinbeck 7). This simple passage gives us a clear first

  • 10. Rites Of Passage Analysis Think of a monumental time in your life. Your monumental time in your life is probably different to an Apache girl, Dachina, and the main character, Martin, in a story the medicine bag. In Dachina s rite of passage is doing by doing a four day tradition to become a women. During the four day she has to do stuff like, dance for ten hours straight. Then, in Martin s rite of passagehis grandpa comes to give him the medicine bag. During this, Grandpa is dying so he has to give Martin the medicine bag before he dies. In my essay I explain, the similarities and differences between the two rites of passage. I also explain, the advantages and disadvantages between video and text. There are a lot of similarities and differences between the medicine bag and the apache girl. To start off, a similarity of these two rites of passage are that they are both about a monumental time in the apache girl, Dachina, and the main character, Martin, in the medicine bag. Like the Dachina s monumental time in her life is the ritual to become a women. In addition to that, Martin s monumental time in his life getting the medicine bag from his grandpa. Another similarity between the two stories it that they both need their family to make the rites of passage possible. For example, Martin need his grandpa to give him the medicine bag for him to experience getting the medicine bag. Also, Dachina needs her family to help her to get through the four day ritual like, they had to help prepare the food for
  • 11. Education Act Of 1944 And The Beginning Of The National... Education in Great Britain has always been a hot topic for discussion and over the years the education system has undergone many changes. This has been down to the political party in power at the time, pressures of a changing society and the subsequent rise and fall of the national economy. The purpose of this essay is to look at how these factors have affected and developed secondary educationin Great Britain starting with a brief overview of the pre 1900 s. Moving through the years in chronological order, the essay will consider various Education Acts and reports, the effect of two World Wars and the controversial Butler Education Act of 1944 when the tripartite systemwas introduced. Prior to 1900 secondary education was virtually non existent, the consensus view at that time was that secondary education was only for boys of the middle and upper classes. The few schools available were fee paying and therefore only an option to those who could afford them. This fuelled the gap in social status and in the opinion of Marxists kept the lower classes in their place so as not to disrupt the economic and social balance. In the 1860 s there were no grammar schools for girls, however due to a slight change in the views of society by 1900 eighty girls schools had been created (Stephens, 1998). The 1870 s saw the development of some of higher grade schools, these had a scientific and technical bias and grants were provided for those whose pupils were successful in the

The Commonwealth facilitated childcare by introducing standardized fee relief for children in uncommercial center based long day care centers in 1984 (Social Policy Group, 1997 98). Fee relief was the essential avenue through which the Commonwealth funded childcare places and the purpose was to help low income families or median income households with the expenses of quality child care services (Social Policy Group, 1995). From 1985 to 1987, more childcare services were provided, for example, approximately 11000 new center based long day care places and 5650 family day care places were afforded (Social Policy Group, 1997 98). • 13. Free Speech And Hate Speech In elementary school, it would probably be the first time you would understand what a debate is and how the roots of it is expressing different opinions between others. This has been the way we functioned throughout our society to settle higher figures, laws, and wars. Our college communities is the ideal place of free speech of the young minds yet things have changed recently. There will always be some restrictions to what can be said at a college campus, yet the first amendment is being debated to be recommitted at campuses. Censorshipwill always be in effect to an extent because of how it can progress into an hate speechor threats, yet it isn t bad policy to let people of the newer generation with different perspectives speak their own opinions. Free speech is the building block of our human rights which corresponds with us improving and progressing Free speech has allowed us learn and change based on the exchanging of ideas. During the 1790 s, the amendments were added to the constitution. The very first amendment s stated the basics liberties of all people such as freedom of religion, press, and speech. The foundation of how we communicate and strive for improvement is from the first amendments because of how we can express our ideas to each other even if they may be different from each other. The national government would not be able to abuse their power that the old constitution has stated. Since then, free speech has been as important as ever to being able to
  • 14. Springfield Descriptive Paragraph As I stepped out of the car, the smell of the hot asphalt hit me. I heard the low rumble of voices and the high pitched screaming of babies. Mothers were hustling their children toward the stadium. Little boys with their favorite team plastered on their shirts ran past me, eager to enter the ballpark. Nearing the ticket booth, the smell of popcorn wafted through the gates. This was the ultimate way to spend a summer night, at a baseballgame. After paying our way to get in, my dad and I found our seats. It was my birthday and my father had a special treat in store. He had gotten us front row seats, a very rare occasion for me. Son! Both teams desperately needed those few points to claim victory. We re only looking at one more home run to advance to the playoffs, said my dad excitedly. The stadium became unusually quiet when our batter stepped up to the plate. The visiting team s catcher signaled the pitcher. In slow motion, I saw the pitcher throw a fastball and a few seconds that seemed like minutes went by, and I heard a crack. The loudest, wood shattering crack of the game. I looked up and the ball was on it s way over the fence into the crowd towards me. I raised my glove up with a small hope of catching it. Come on son, you got this. This one s yours! yelled my dad. A second later I felt something smack my glove. I was in utter disbelief, and everyone cheered around me. This night had gotten so much better than it already was. The game was over, we had won. Fireworks erupted above the stadium and lit up the night sky like it was daytime. We did it son, we did it! We re going to the playoffs! yelled my dad excitedly. It was a surreal moment. Upon exiting the stadium, I couldn t wait for the moment we would return. But this time, it would be the
  • 15. The Foundations Of Modern Conservatism The foundations of modern conservatism have always been nebulous. It is less a defined set of principles than a reactionary disdain for change and bleary eyed nostalgia for some imaginary pastoral paradise one might find in a Nicolas Poussin painting. Its spongy basis and hazy boundaries are conservatism s strength. It lets conservatives co opt and abandon virtually any issue at will When Ronald Reagan was in office, he enjoyed the title of The Great Communicator. It was a title he earned, and conservatives embraced his oratorical skills as a valuable asset. By the time Bill Clinton brought his own superior communication skills to the office of the President, conservatives attacked him for being too touchy feely. The good became the bad, with no reference to coherence. If conservatism can be said to have guiding principles, Russell Kirk has probably constructed the most plausible list of them. I won t rehash what he has already done, but I will draw your attention specifically to the fifth and six entries on his list. His fifth principle, which he dubs the principle of variety, holds that: For the preservation of a healthy diversity in any civilization, there must survive orders and classes, differences in material condition, and many sorts of inequality. Mind you, Kirk isn t making a descriptive statement here about how thing actually are, but rather making a prescriptive statement about how things should be. Even dressed up in its Sunday Best, what he advocates

Fool s character is very ironic to his name because he is the wisest person in the whole Illyria who outshines everyone with his humour and wit. In his presence the mood of the environment becomes lighter and everybody have a good time. He moves easily between upper class and lower class in the whole play. He disguise himself as Sir Topas which very unusual for a lower class man. Feste as the name suggests includes festivity and embodies the festive spirit perfectly. Besides humour and wit he sings melodies and pictures the state of higher class people in the play. For example he sings a song O Mistress Mine, where are you roaming? which depicts the wait for the true love. The song could be applied to the love relationship between Orisino and Olivia and also between Olivia and Cesario. The song suggests that Orisino s wait will be over when he could marry Olivia and Olivia s journey would end when she gets Cesario. Another song would be Farewell, dear heart, since I must needs be gone sung in the party by both Sir Toby Belch and Feste. The song ideally talks about approaching death but in this case it is referred to Malvolio who is not liked by both Feste and Sir Toby Belch. Malvolio has been compared to an evil or antagonist because of his rude behaviour toward everyone including upper class people, also of his fondness for Olivia and a happiness spoiler whereas he is just a steward. Because nobody likes Malvolio he is been asked to leave the party in a comical and witty way which could be justified by the line said by Sir Toby Belch in Act 2 Scene 3 Shall I bid him go, and spare not and a reply from Feste O no no no, you dare

This is a test with addition for younger students, with multiplication added for older students. Basic math problems are shown, with the answer. Students must decide whether or not the answer given is correct. Like the other tests, the problems are easy, but the reaction time is a key determinant in the diagnosis. Why do we cling to our evil ways? (Martel 344). This confirms the fact that the cook regrets killing Pi s mother so he feels that his life should be ended as a punishment for the inhumane action he commits. The false appearance the cook portrays which is, having no morals, was false because he regrets murdering Pi s mother. Pi in the text seems to be a religious and an individual with moral values but that is false because his true self emerges when he kills the cook. Pi says that He was such an evil man. Worst still he met the evil in me selfishness, anger and ruthlessness. I must live with that (Martel 345). The cook brings out a side of Pi that Pi did not want to believe was there, so he regrets letting his emotions take over him. This reveals that Pi is not as holy as he seems and hates the fact that he had committed an evil deed, so he creates the story of him being stranded on the lifeboat for two hundred and twenty seven days with a tiger which makes him seem heroic. The True Tragic Hero of Creon in Sophocles Antigone There has always been a great debate over who is the true tragic hero in Sophocles Antigone. Many scholars would stake claim to Antigone possessing all the necessary characteristics of a true tragic hero, but many others would argue that Creon holds many qualities as well. It is hard to discount Antigone as a tragic hero, because in fact, the play bears her name, but from careful reading, Creon meets Aristotle s criteria exactly and fits perfectly into the role. In order to determine whether or not Creon is the true tragic hero, one must answer the question: What is a Tragic Hero? In Aristotle s Poetics, he discusses the basic criteria regarding a tragic hero. Aristotle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creon said, ?...And whoever places a friend above the good of his own county, he is nothing: I have no use for him.? (203 205). Again, his high standards and honor for his country are shown in great detail: ?I could never stand by silent, watching destruction march against our city, putting safety to rout? (207 208). Creon shows a high sense of morality when he properly buried Eteocles, and then is showing his noble character by not burying Polyneices, who attacked Creon?s country; again his value of his country is shown. Creon is a good ruler because he like any king would punish evil and reward good. Creon is seen by the chorus to have ?goodness? and leadership. (Lines 691). The chorus praises Creon for his loyalty to the country after the great war, they look forward to his kingly rule and nobility in the future by saying, ?. . . Creon, the new man for the great new day?(Lines 173). Love of his country and his punishment of Polyneices show this great nobility and loyalty talked about by the chorus. Clearly Creon qualifies under the first criterion of being a tragic hero. The second criterion for being a tragic hero is that one is neither purely evil nor pre eminently great. Although Creon possesses many good kingly qualities, as far a honor and nobility, his imperfection lies in his excessive pride and hubris, as well as his self indulgence as King of Thebes. Creon shows his power and pride

Solar power, wind energy, hydroelectricity, geothermal, and biomass energy are all examples of this. All of these sources can be replenished, or renewed naturally. Wind energy is free of pollution and costs about the same as electricity from coal. Solar energy is growing cheaper, and is used in many every day appliances. Biomass energy uses materials such as wood, corn, soy, and sometimes animal waste. It takes time for biomass energy to grow, but it is a critical renewable resource. Their strategy was to avoid conflict at all costs and if it did occur, then it should be resolved peacefully. At the same that they advocated peace, the desert fathers also felt the conflict with evil should be dealt with actively. In his book The Wisdom of the Desert, Thomas Merton wrote: The saints of the desert were enemies of every subtle or gross expedient by which the spiritual man contrives to bully those he thinks inferior to himself, thus gratifying his own ego. They had renounced everything that savored of punishment and revenge, however
  • 37. Depiction of Time in Three Housman Poems Essay 1.Illustrate how all three of the Housman poems assigned deal with time and the passing of time. In The Loveliest of Trees, Housman uses a cherry tree to relate the passage of time. He begins the poem in springtime when the cherry is in bloom, wearing white for Eastertide. The image of white and the blossoming tree give the reader of feeling of rejuvenation and rebirth, both feelings associated with spring. The next stanza uses clever word play to describe the passing of decades and scores. The last stanza puts the greater concept of a lifetime into perspective. He writes that fifty springs not enough to look at things in bloom. He ends with, About the woodlands I will go to see the cherry hung with snow. Housman has... The title is deceptive: the athlete did not physically die, but rather died in the minds of the people. Housman points out both the fickle nature of people and the erasing nature of time in his poem. The theme seems to be that the passage of time is the only thing that is constant in our world. 2.What does Yeats mean by Byzantium? How are the two poems on this subject related to each other? Byzanium is a cultural Mecca. To Yeats it represents art, civilization, and rejuvenation. Byzantium is a place where old souls can go to be strengthened and supported. It is both a physical place in the sense that it did exist and post dated Rome, and also a metaphysical place where one s spirit can flourish much like in heaven. The poems Sailing to Byzantium and Byzantium relate to each other in subject and in time. The former of the two concerns an individual s journey to Byzantium, while the latter is about the individual s experiences upon arrival. If Sailing concerns his trip to heaven, then Byzantium regards his stay. In form the two poems are identical: each consists of four stanzas of eight lines each. The rhyming patter does differ though each does have a pattern. The use of metaphor and symbolism is prevalent in each. A bird is referenced in both, perhaps to allude to youth in the first poem, but in the second poem it is a golden bird

Here in America for example, it can easily be said that the average person consumes some form of paperevery single day. Our society revolves around the consumption of paper. It is involved in many aspects of daily life, such as our food, our education, our hygiene, to decorate and clean our homes, our occupations, our recreational activities, art, and even in holiday traditions such as gift wrapping and cards. Paper is even used as the main form of exchange in our country, and therefore in a sense it could be said that America runs on paper. Being a current college student, paper is more vital in my life than it has ever been before. On average, I consume at least 20 sheets of paper most days of the week, between note taking and printing lecture slides or homework assignments. For this reason, I decided that sheet paper would be an interesting topic to perform a commodity chain analysis on. I have always consumed it daily, but I came to realize that I do not know much about what goes into producing it, and what it takes to get it into my notebooks and printer. Besides using paper for my education, I too like every other American use paper daily for many other things like money, hygiene, food,

Bloody Mary has played on people s desire for excitement and it is also a way to release anxiety and experience some safe fear. With so much talk about the Bloody Mary legend over the many decades and versions, it s a challenge to really analyze its cultural symbolism, because it s different from culture to culture. However, it is possible to theorize a single interpretation by examining the more pointed points thatcomprise the legend together. The ritual is almost always carried out by children, most commonly girls, in a dark bathroom, by means of a chant. A woman then appears in the mirror, most typically with malicious intentions. The legend of Bloody Mary seems to resurrect with children s comingof age. The children most enticed by the myth are adolescent children from the ages of nine to twelve. Children at this age look for excitement and try to find independent freedom, sometimes in the wrong places. Bloody Mary is the true meaning for exciting fun and a feel good rush. The way for satisfying this newfound craving for excitement sometimes means breaking the rules a little. Opposite of the rules we are taught as children. We are taught as children that when somebody break
  • 43. Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to conflict through lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler youth. Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis. She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad. It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict. Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. This, like I said before, was to escape the Nazis and concentration camps. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a freshman with a Chemical Engineering Intent looking at companies, I was very intimidated yet intrigued by the mass amount of companies represented at the career fair. Investigating the companies prior to the career fair, I narrowed my list down to three chemical engineering companies: EcoLab, Merck, and GSK. EcoLab was the first company I talked to. The company focuses on providing clean water, sustainable energy, and safe food to the market through research and development. Their summer recruiting was taking place at the career fair. They took my resume and said they would send out an email in the evening for prospective internship interviews that would take place the following day. Since I did not receive an email from them, I presume that it is not possible for me to get an internship position with them for this upcoming summer. Like many other companies that were represented at the career fair, they mainly were looking to recruit upperclassmen (juniors and seniors). If given the opportunity, I would like to intern with them in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By going to the career fair, I became more comfortable with my intended major of chemical engineering and learned that regardless of which chemical engineering concentration I pursue, there will always be options open in the job
