Waiting to find out my internship placement, interviewing with my placement, and starting work has
been the most exciting part of my graduate education to date. I was placed with Walton County
Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and started working with them in the last week
of September. The transition from the classroom to the field has been smooth with my classes having
equipped me for the field work I have already done and hopefully for the field work to come. While
the transition from classroom to field has been smooth, it has been drastically different working with
DFCS from reading in textbooks and class lectures. At my field placement, I have been able to interact
with clients and get to know them on a first name basis. Meeting real clients has been fascinating. Not
only do I get to learn about what is going on in their lives, I also get to learn about how they feel about
it, what they think about it, and see their expressions and emotions as they relay this information to
me. Face to face interaction with a client is unlike anything that can be gathered from a textbook. We
have textbooks that give scenarios and scripted interviews, but a book is never able to fully capture the

In today s society, people often tend to shift towards the societal norms and don t ever want to be
pushed out of their comfort zone. While many people write about the struggles with these situations,
two authors seem to do a great job at explaining it in their own lives. In Amy Poehler s preface,
Writing is Hard, and in Tina Fey s excerpt Bossypants, they both describe what it s like to live with the
difficulties and demands of today s society with Poehler s being more from the work side and Fey s
being from the beauty side. While both write about overcoming society s mindset and believing in
yourself in the two perspectives they present, Fey seems to do a more detailed and thought out job
with the writing in Chapter three: All Girls Must Be Everything that more people can relate to.
Furthermore, the two comedians do a great job trying to appeal to their specific audience; however,
Tina Fey seems to find more strength in it than Poehler. Poehler and Fey are both well known for their
comedic work and acting abilities in the society meaning they have the credibility to talk about such
topics they discuss in their excerpts, but Tina Fey appears to use her fame status more to her
advantage. She writes about teaching girls that they are all beautiful no matter what the standards are
people tend to get from the media. For example, in Fey s excerpt from her book, Bossypants, she tells
her readers of her personal story with experiencing body awareness for the first time. Fey states in her
excerpt from chapter three of Bossypants, One afternoon a girl walked by in a bikini and my cousin

While most the food products that are out in the market today can barely be considered food to some
people, in my opinion, the majority of the people don t know what is in the food products they buy but
purchase these food products anyhow. I, myself being one of the people that don t always know what
is in the food products I purchase. After listening to the TED Talks and reading articles from Food
Matters, my opinion of what can be considered real food has drastically changed. Although I already
spend most of my time in the peripheries of the market, I do not spend all of my time there so I would
like to challenge myself to following one of Michael Pollan s rules and plan to shop the peripheries of
the supermarket and stay out of the middle (15). I am currently in charge of all the cooking and food
shopping for my family so I feel a huge responsibility to try to find healthy food for my family to eat.
I did not grow with healthy food and I wanted that to change now that I have a family of my own. I try
to keep my son active in our trips to the market by having him pick out at least one fruit and one
vegetable that he would like for that week as well as helping me pick healthy snacks that he can take
to school. I have a hope that in asking him to help me make healthy choices now, will help for him to
