Emily Dickinson And The Village Blacksmith
The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This poem is about an
honest, hardworking blacksmith who provides for his family by working long hours at the
forge. And the message of the poem is through your life you will eventually change the world by
the things you do, and you make your mark on the world by looking hard every day. There is a
Certain Slant of Light is a poem by Emily Dickinson. In the poem it describes the feeling of hurt
and oppression ironically using light as the instrument of hurting. Throughout this essay I will be
explaining and going into detail of the literary elements found in each individually, but also found
in both of these poems. The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,

The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision.
Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson
says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the
poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical
scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain
Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when
Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme
within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using
death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as
something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity
that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will
be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal
Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by
shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is
because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. I
believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver different messages, and
things to think about while reading this

Why Is Audie Murphy Considered A Modern Day Hero
There were many war heroes in WW2 but there is one that stands out the most from the Allied
invasion of Sicily to D day he served his country. Audie murphy made a lasting impression on the
world with everything that he did in his 18 month career. With all his medals that he won and war
stories it s no surprise that some consider the greatest american soldier of all time. Audie Murphy
should be considered a modern day hero.
First of all Audie Murphy is one of the most recognized WW2 names because of his
courageous. He shows courageousness by defeating many opposing forces during the war and
afterwards. In an engagement with German infantry reinforced with tanks, Murphy ordered his men
to the safety of trees to the rear while he called in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He inspired a lot of people to good things and a lot in his name that were dedicated. As a result of
legislation introduced by U.S. Congressman Olin Teague five months after Murphy s death in
1971, the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio, now a part of the South
Texas Veterans Health Care System, was dedicated in 1973 (american.history). As a result of all
the good that he did for the war the built a VA hospital in his name. This is amazing because, if
you ask any veteran who Mr. murphy is they all know. All because of stuff like this also that kids
are learning about his life also. Audie never let the thought of others go over his head he always
put others thought before his own. In an effort to draw attention to the problems of returning
Korean War and Vietnam War veterans, Murphy spoke out candidly about his own problems with
posttraumatic stress disorder (nashua telegraph). Even with his own battles with PTSD he still
made it a priority to talk to people about it and make awareness for it. He helped millions of
people struggling with PTSD get help and be treated.
Audie murphy is the most decorated soldier of all time and of WW2. Yet not many people know
who he is. He shows many valued traits in a soldier such as a leader, an inspiration, he s fearless,
and many more. Audie Murphy should be considered a modern day hero. He was an amazing

The Eugenics Movement Essay
In the 1920s, a company in New York started a movement known as The Eugenics Movement.
The idea of eugenics was eventually picked up by Germany, China, Peru, India and Bangladesh.
The movement is still in effect till this day; however, it is not as prevalent as it once was. The
beginning of the Eugenics Movement all started at Cold Spring Harbor, New York. The United
States coined the term Eugenicsfrom Great Britain in the early 1900s. In the year 1910, a man by
the name of Charles B. Davenport founded the Eugenics Records Office (ERO). The funds for this
building came from Mrs. E.H. Harriman ( Eugenics: Did the Eugenics Movement Benefit the
United States? ). The movement was initially meant to purify the Gene Pool. One of the ways...

The Cold Spring Harbor is the birth place of the American Eugenics Movement. In 1898, the
building had just been founded with no knowledge by some. The building is also the origin for
the Sterilization national move for fitter families laws used against 60,000 Americans. These
laws were the most extreme, which faced more towards immigration, in the American History.
Another home that Cold Spring Harbor is, Davenport s Survival of the fittest scenarios towards
animals and plants (originally), eventually these scenarios were forced on humans ( Learning
from History: Long Island s Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, circa 1920. ). Sir Francis Galton,
cousin of Charles Darwin, was a British Eugenics professional. His ideology was that Eugenics
should be used to keep the Survival of the Fittest going. Defects are passed down through
generation after generation by means of defective genetics ( Forced Sterilization ). People believed
plant and animal genes can be improved through Natural Selection, they believe the same could be
done with humans. The reproduction of the considered unfit was too high compared to that of the
fit reproduction. Contamination might be caused by imbeciles in the human race. If not cut from

Types Of Any Wireless Communication System
A microstrip antenna consists of conducting patch and a ground plane separated by dielectric
substrate. The early work of Munson on microstrip antennas for use as a low profile flush mounted
antennas on rockets and missiles showed that this was a practical concept for use in many antenna
system problems. Different mathematical models were developed for this antennaand its
applications were extended to many other fields. The number of articles published in the journal
papers for the last ten years. The microstrip antennas are the first antenna designer s choice. Low
dielectric constant substrates are generally preferred for maximum radiation. The conducting patch
can have many shape but rectangular and circular configurations are the most commonly used
configuration. A microstrip antennais characterized by its length parameter, width parameter, input
impedance, and gain and radiation patterns. Various performance parameters, mathematical
calculation and Microstrip feeding technique will be discussed further through this chapter.
Antennas are key components of any wireless communication system and it is a device that
provides a way for radiation or receiving electromagnetic waves. IEEE standard definitions for
antenna (IEEE Std 145 1983) defines antenna as a means for radiating or receiving radio wave.

Benefits Of The Clean Water Rule
The Clean Water Rule
The United States government should uphold the Clean Water Rule for several reasons. Keeping
the Clean Water rule ensures that the environment is protected which will help in many other
aspects such as protecting drinking water and maintaining the outdoor portion of the economy.
The economy needs clean water to sustain itself. If the Clean Water Rule were dropped, then there
would be a decrease in the clean water available across the nation. Clean water doesn t just affect
what we are able to drink but affects other industries as well such as agriculture, manufacturing and
energy production. People need clean drinking water. Without clean water human health will drop
significantly resulting in many health problems. Most Americans get their clean water from areas
protected by the Clean Water Rule. Getting rid of it would lead to pollution of those waters
leading to these problems. Clean water is not only a very important thing for humans but for
farms and livestock as well. Farmers need clean water to properly nourish their crops and to keep
their livestock healthy. Without clean water, the crop production yield would not be as high and
would lead to poor crops. Livestock require clean water to remain healthy and stay well nourished.
Getting rid of the Clean Water Rule would lead to the destruction of the United States in a variety
of ways. The United States needs the Clean water rule to maintain its current status in many
departments, from the

Aristotle s Ideas Of Potential Infinity
Aristotle supported the idea of potential infinity but refuted the idea of actual infinity . He defined
potential infinity by saying if you are counting natural numbers, logic would tell us that we can
always add one to the previous number and that can potentially go on forever. He also said that we
could potentially use this logic in geometry if we imagined a line that extended beyond both points
with no recognizable end. On the contrary, actual infinityseems paradoxical because even if we had
an infinite number of things in a category then infinity would still be whole in a sense with a
beginning and an end. Aristotle s ideas were supported for many centuries ( Aristotle , n.d.).
The philosopher Zeno of Elea (495 435 B.C.E.) came up with the idea of infinite divisibility . The
basic concept of the theory was that you could take any object, cut it in half, cut those halves in
half, and so on until you reached the end of the divisibility process and were left with only particles,
or elements as he called them. The first conclusion he drew from this theory was that the elements
were essentially nothing, which meant that the sum of all the pieces made the whole object
nothing. The second conclusion was that the elements were something but that they had no size,
which meant that the sum of the whole object also had no size. The last conclusion was that the
elements are something and they do have a size. But that would mean that you would never reach
the end of the

Psychology Personal Statement Examples
Personal Statement
Life has a funny way of showing you what it is, you are looking for. We re always searching for
something. Whether it be meaning, love, career paths, family, we all want that something that
makes us feel alive. That aspect of my life for me is helping others. At the beginning of college, I
was troubled with deciding if I wanted to pursue business or psychology. I spent years climbing the
business ladder to achieve highly reputable internships. The glamour spoke to me, people were
fashionable and well mannered all around. Something about celebrity culture excited me and I

obsessive compulsive disorder, and attention deficit disorder. It all seemed like a lot to me and I
always felt stuck under a cloud of confusion. To cope with this confusion, I engaged with
recreational drugs and alcohol. With history of alcoholism in my family, it was hard to stay
away from it. Eventually, I found myself in an alternate universe. I was not living in reality, the
scariest state a person could be living in. Everyone around me was in touch with reality, but I
was just not there. Still to this day, it is hard to cope with the fact that I lost about eight months
of my life in a far off universe. Finally, what needed to happen to me did, and I was admitted into

Cost of Living
Measuring the Cost of Living
Overview:
Last time we discussed the most important measure of economic well being real, per capita GDP.
Further, if we want to see how our economic well being is changing over time, we can calculate
how real GDP is changing in percentage terms (for example, real GDP grew 4% last quarter).
Now, we turn our attention to another important measure of the economy.
We want to measure how the cost of living changes over time.
The main intuition here is that, over time, peoples incomes and the prices of goods and services
increase. 30 years ago an ice cream sundae cost $1 and a typical economics professor earned
$35,000. Now, a (bad) ice cream sundae costs $4.50 and a typical economics professor ... Show

We have to figure out what a typical consumer buys. Imagine a shopping cart you fill it up with
items that a typical consumer will purchase.
Step 2: Find the prices:
Now that we have our basket, we can track prices on the items in the cart and see how much it all
costs.
Step 3: Compute the cost of the basket:
Let s determine the cost of the basket from year to year
Step 4: Choose a base year, and compute the index:
Pick a year to serve as a benchmark a comparison basket cost for all other years. We then can use
the cost in benchmark year (called a base year ) relative to the cost of the cart in the year we are
interested in to calculate a cost if living index.
Step 5: Compute the inflation rate:
This is easy: just calculate how the index changes from year to year in percentage terms.
To see these steps in action, consider the following example (from the textbook):
Step 1: Fix the basket:
Well, suppose that what we see consumers typically buying are 4 hot dogs and 2 hamburgers that is
what is in their shopping cart...
Step 2: Find the price of each good in each year:
This is just observing prices every year...
Year:Price of hot dogs:Price of hamburgers:
2001$1$2
2002:$2$3
2003:$3$4
Step 3: Compute the cost of the basket in each year:
Let s see how much the stuff in the cart costs from year to year...

Sherpa Life
Physical strength is important because a person s body can only withstand so much. According
to Grayson Schaffer in The Value of a Sherpa Life the Sherpa porters struggle to survive in the
hardships and conditions they face. He writes, The men who were struck were carrying 80
pound loads to Camps I and II, or they were on their way back to base camp (1). This shows how
hard the Sherpas work and the weight of the supplies they have to withstand. Similarly, members on

The American Of The White Americans Essay
The strong will of the white Americans lead to many different races of people changing their
ideas because of what was being exerted on them. In dealing with the other races Americans had
many opposed views and different ideas for their cultures and also their sufficiency of self
government. Americans in the nineteenth century used domestic policy to culturally deprive
the newly freed slaves and the American Indians, then in the early twentieth century Americans
used newly gained power and foreign policy to help and rule over the Philippines and the people
who inhabited there. America is no stranger to imposing their own ideas onto other people and
even other places. Slaves once freed really were not free at all. Many things still inhibited them
into starting their own independent lives. White Americans were a big one, the placement of
black codes, negative perceptions of the Freedman s Bureau and just the view of African
Americans in general all prohibited black slaves to live their lives the way they wanted to.
Rather they were required to live how the white men wanted them to live. The Americans had the
attitude of being above and better than the African Americans, their negativity and deprivation of
blacks led to America being unable to progress for a long while. Document 12.9 in Archive 12 is a

Red Bull used abstract marketingstrategies involving differentiation, word of mouth , and buzz

product and waiting to integrate it into mainstream media. Red Bull thrusted itself into
communicating with its customers and fan base by launching events, working closely with event

the product and brand with athletics and extreme sports. Targeting a younger generation and
portraying the idea of a fuller and freer life has proven to truly engage the popular culture and
counter culture alike. It is stated in the case study that Red Bull holds a seventy percent market

Analysing the Female Characters in Henry James Fiction A woman it seems to me has no natural

Discuss James representations of places for women in his novels.
There is an impressive range of female characters in Henry James fiction. Drawn to the world of
wealth and leisure as a subject, a world which was at the same time, ironically the context for his

Correspondingly, most of his male characters seem to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The theme so early recognised as particularly James own was the international one, and the
expression of this theme pivoted around the figure of the American girl. The critic W.D. Howells
(1958 P.63) credited James with being the inventor of the International American girl . The
American girl, as she appears in James early stories and novels is independent, moral, free,
innocent, and her attractiveness is either delicate or of a pale and rather asexual kind. In her less
refined or serious form, she may be ignorant, brash or simply naГЇve. She is, of course, as always
unmarried. In using the American girl as central to his exploration of the interaction of American
and European society, it was not at first in the girl herself that James placed the distinguished
American moral consciousness, and when she was endowed

from it, or were destroyed by it, and this is the reason

Kepler Myths
Myths of Kepler 62 planetary system and perspectives on Kepler mission
Since the very beginning of exoplanet discovery, astronomers have been seeking to find an earth
like habitable planet. This search especially rose in importance in the 21st century when we were
faced with intensifying problems of resource scarcity and environmental deterioration which
directly influence our being on earth. In order to investigate regions in the Milky Way to
discover Earth sized exoplanets in and approximate to a habitable zone, NASA sent Kepler, a
Discovery class mission spacecraft to identify planets in the Habitable Zone of main sequence stars
and to generate a better estimate of how many stars in the Milky Way have such planets (Overbye,

Batalha et al. (2011), Rowe et al. (2014), and Huber et al. (2014) validated and revised the data

and spectroscopic techniques to model the frequencies of Earth sized planets near sun like stars,
which resulted in precise knowledge of the fundamental stellar properties, and thereby detected
the nature of Kepler 10, which is the first rocky planet of Kepler and the smallest transiting
exoplanet discovered to date. (Natalie M. Batalha et al 2011) Jason F. Rowe et al. (2014) used
fundamental parameters to present fundamental planetary properties based on an analysis of
Kepler light curves, spectroscopy based on ground analysis, imaging in high resolution, and
Kepler light curves, (Jason F. Rowe et al 2014). The paper cited the research of Borucki et al.

Feasibility Report On Ipo s, And The Process Of Buying An Ipo
I compile, through various mediums, information regarding initial public offerings, or IPO s.
The report includes areas such as defining an IPO, the performance of IPO s, the current market
for IPO s, and the process of buying an IPO. Therefore, the feasibility report is directed at the
retail or non professional investor who may be engaged in purchasing IPO s. I look to determine if
the underlying facts create certainty that these instruments are profitable currently and in the long
run. It appears through study that investors have increased their consumption of initial public
offerings since the 2007 2008 financial crisis. Many investors believe purchasing IPO s can create
quick realized gains. However, it appears that the performance of these issues has lagged the
broader market, which in my opinion should steal zeal from these risky investments. The figures
throughout this report should indicate and reaffirm that not all IPOs, whether popular or unpopular,
will benefit the professional or non professional investor. It must be noted that not everything is the
same in financial markets and results may vary significantly from this report in a single incident or
sample study. INTRO Over time, financial markets have become more complex and possibly more
confusing for the average or retail investor. It appears through recent observation that non
professional investors do not understand the process, importance of, and potential harm that IPO s
may cause to a portfolio in the

Jackson vs. Calhoun and the Nullification Crisis
It has been rare in American history for presidents and vice presidents not to get along, but it has
happened on a few occasions: Adams and Jefferson, Kennedy and Johnson, and Eisenhower and
Nixon are a few examples (Jackson vs. Calhoun Part 1 1). However, the most controversial
relationship between president and his assistant was between Andrew Jackson and John C. Calhoun.
Their disagreements began very early on in Jackson s administration, and lasted until after the
resolution of the Nullification Crisis. Nullification is the refusal of a state to recognize a federal
law within its boundaries and deem that law unconstitutional. In this case, South Carolina, led by
John C. Calhoun, refused to recognize the protective tariffs in 1828, and... Show more content on

We do further declare that we will not submit to the application of force on the part of the Federal
Government (Hamilton 1). Jackson, appalled by this direct threat to the Union and the Federal
Government, was determined to put Calhoun in his place and do anything he could to preserve the
Union.
Although Calhoun had stated in his Ordinance that South Carolina would not respond to any
forceful acts by the government to attempt to get Calhoun to back down, Jackson found a way to
outsmart his opponent. Jackson had congress pass a bill in 1833, which allowed him to use
soldiers to enforce the tariff measures (Nullification Crisis 1). After the Force Bill was passed,
Jackson sent several warships and hundreds of soldiers to Charleston to enforce the laws of the
government. Some people argue that what Jackson did was wrong because based on the
constitution, Calhoun had the right to declare Nullification for South Carolina. However, what
Jackson did was also constitutional and enabled the United States of America to remain as one. Had
Jackson not passed the Force Bill immediately after South Carolina s Ordinance was received,
Calhoun s scheme may have succeeded and South Carolina

Notes On The Global Financial Crisis
w how transactions in derivative instruments can be used to either hedge risks or to open
speculative positions.
1.Introduction
The latest global financial crisis, starting from the United States since 2007, has pushed the
financial derivatives to be a hot spot. The publics usually believe that the inappropriate application
of derivatives should be to blame for this, which is totally wrong. It is apparent that there is no
single financial crisis resulting from only a kind of financial product. Whatever the instrument is,
including credit derivatives and basic derivatives, they are only the conducting tools holding by the
real culprits. The ultimate cause of this financial crisis is the imbalance of the global economy, or

Unlike a spot contract, it does not exercise immediately after writing. This kind of derivatives is
traded in the over the counter market. After entering into contract, time passes by, price of the
underlying asset may change, interest rate may change, so the market price of the forward
contract most likely will change. The market price of the forward contract is therefore variable,
but the contract s delivery price is always the same. As to a forwards, both parties have an
obligation to execute the contract at the maturity and since forwards does not require any outlay to
enter, the total payoff from the contract is exactly equal to the total profit or loss of the investor
from the contract.
Most holders of forwards are usually hedgers who is facing potential risks. Since that, they want
to use the forwards contracts to avoid the adverse price movements in the future and offset the risk
exposure as much as possible. However, speculators are willing to take some risks in the markets
for potential equivalent return. Usually, they use derivatives to bet on the future direction of
movements in the price and mostly, their counter party is hedger, due to their exactly different
expectations of price movements. Say a shareholder is worrying about the stock price falling so he
can conduct a short hedge to avoid unexpected movements of price with a

John Henry Livingston Influence On Religion
Besides being known as the Father of the Reformed Church in America, the resolver of the Coetus
vs. Conferentie dispute, the instituter of the Union of Articles to provide education for colonial
clergy, and the founder of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, John Henry Livingston is also
known as the father of the modern missionary movement (By Grace Alone, 81). Livingston helped a
young RCA denomination establish itself and wade through some challenging theological positions
(The Dutch Reformed Church in the American Colonies, 207 209). During Livingston s time, it
was the middle of the Second Great Awakening and an evangelical pietism was filling the churches
across the colonial seafront (Word and World, 16 17). Livingston, too, resonated with this
individualism since he found... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being far more consistent than Frelinghuysen, Livingston espoused millennial views which echo
a hope that Christians can bring the return of Christ before the year 2000 (A People in Mission,
1 8). Livingston, in his 1804 sermon The Everlasting Gospel, preaches on the Great Fall of
Babylon and the apocalyptic doom that could follow. By proselytizing to the world the good news
of the Gospel, this apocalypticism can be avoided. Livingston believed that once the entire globe
heard the Gospel, the church would enter into the millennial reign (Word and World, 18).
Livingston, in his sermon, goes so far as to say that it is the Christian s duty to live out the Great
Commission to foreign lands. But the millennial reign will come about if the church is not being
pious; therefore, the church must stress moral and social order essential piety so that Jesus will
return (Word and World, 112 113). Livingston is known for believing America to be a City on a

Gullivers Travels Essay
Gulliver amp;#8217;s Travels, by Jonathan Swift, is regarded as one of the greatest satires in
modern history. The purpose of the book, although some of his contemporaries didn amp;#8217;t
realize it, is to ridicule his government, his rulers, and human nature as a whole. His generalization
of the human condition doesn amp;#8217;t manifest itself completely until Part IV of the book,
where the main character, Lemuel Gulliver, finds himself on an island inhabited by two main
species amp;#8211; the Houyhnhnms, horse like animals, and the Yahoos, human like animals. The
difference between this island and reality as we know it is the fact that the Houyhnhnms are

This seems too inhuman, and it appears that it would be impossible to be that intelligent and noble,
yet still disregard the importance of death. Overall, however, Gulliver amp;#8217;s view of the
Houyhnhnm is a perfectionistic vision of how human nature, for the most part, should be
amp;#8211; ruled by reason.
The amp;#8220;negative ; extreme of human nature that Gulliver encounters is the Yahoos. The
Yahoos are naked, dirty creatures that physically resemble humans: amp;#8220;My horror and
astonishment are not to be described, when I observed, in this abominable animal, a perfect
human figure amp;#8230; ; (Swift 186). Immediately, Gulliver does not want to be considered
one of the Yahoos. He never takes off his clothes to reveal his likeness to the Yahoo body. The
Houyhnhnms still regard Gulliver, however, as either a amp;#8220;noble Yahoo ; or something
in between a Yahoo and a Houyhnhnm it seems they are unable to decide. At one point, one of
the Houyhnhnms describes Gulliver amp;#8217;s body to be extremely inefficient:

Nixon s attorneys argued that Nixon had the right to not give up the recordings due the executive
privilege right. They argued that the tapes were confidential and no one had a right to view them.
The court disagreed with Nixon and decided that the executive privilege power wasn t enough to
keep the tapes out the supreme courts hands. This meant that Nixon had to comply with the
subpoena and release the recordings. Not even three weeks later, the Supreme Court reached a
unanimous vote. The court discovered that Jaworski had found enough information that the
recordings were indeed relevant to the break in. The Court then decided to reject Nixon s claim of
executive privilege. Soon after the decision, Nixon resigned. This landmark supreme court case is
known as the Watergate Scandal. This case is such a landmark in Supreme Court case studies
because it showed that the president doesn t receive special privilege because of his title. He is not
insusceptible from judicial process, and must obey the court and give up any evidence subpoenaed
by the courts. Although the doctrine of executive privilege recognizes the presidents great degree of
privacy from the courts; if the evidence involves matters of national security or other sensitive
information, the president cannot withhold evidence.

Green Bay Packers Characteristics
The Green Bay Packers are one of the most notable teams in the NFL and all of sports. The four
time Super Bowl champions have a few negative qualities, including bad defenses in the past and
recent years of unsuccessful playoff runs. However, the negatives do not outweigh the team s
powerhouse offense and Super Bowl trophies. The team was founded in 1919 and had very little
success until 1929. This is the start of the Green Bay Packersthat most people know as Titletown .
From 1929 to present day, the Packers have won 13 championships. That being the most
championships won by a single team in NFL history. While the Green Bay Packers are a very
successful team, they have had their up s and down s.
One of the team s biggest strengths is their powerhouse offense. But the man under center is what
makes that powerhouse offense run. That man is Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers is one of the
best quarterbacks in the league if not the best. His statistics are unbelievable. He has the highest
quarterback rating in NFL history at 103.8, while the second closest is 98.9. He has thrown 300
touchdowns to only 74 interceptions. That being a 4:1 touchdown to interception ratio, also the
best in NFL history. One of his most impressive streaks was his success at home. In 2015, he threw
an interception at home. The last one he threw at home before that was in 2012. He went three
years without throwing an interception at home. Truly a remarkable feat. In 2011, Aaron had one of

Kleenmaid Group Case Study
I FACTS
The Kleenmaid Group was a retail whitegoods business which operated a chain of Group owned
and franchised stores across Australia. Each of the 14 companies within the Kleenmaid Group went
into voluntary administration and were placed into liquidation on 25 May 2009. Mr Andrew Young
(the Defendant) was a director of numerous Kleenmaid companies at the time of the collapse. The
Defendant pleaded not guilty to the following charges:
Count 1 Westpac Fraud
Counts 2 to 19 Insolvent Trading
Count 20 Dishonest Transfer
The Crown case in relation to the Westpac fraud is that the Defendant dishonestly acquired a loan
of $13 million for a Kleenmaid company called EDIS Services Logistics Pty Ltd in November
2007. In relation to the insolvent trading counts, the Crown contends that, during a period from mid
2008 until before the collapse, the Defendant dishonestly failed to prevent EDIS Services Logistics
Pty Ltd from trading while it was insolvent. Finally, the Crown claims that the Defendant committed
a further dishonest act, by causing $330,000 to which the creditors of the Kleenmaid Group were
entitled to be transferred to an entity of which the Defendant was a shareholder.

Leaders and Followers
History has its unique way to express the historical evidence, as something very important and
interesting. From very routes of human existence people had two basic relationship: leader and
follower, what they thought would help them to create better society; or people just followed a
strong leader and gave their responsibilities to the person who could create a place where they can
live and prosper. But unfortunately this basic institution of leaders and followers brought not only
good but also the bad. What humanity knows and achieved by now is because of efforts, thinking,

The Traditional authority in European countries came from the medieval ages, even farther from
ancient times when people believed that their king is the one that was chosen by Gods or by
one God in medieval ages (when Christianity became the dominant religion of the Europe). The
absolute power grew over time and reached to its pick the time of Imperialism when kings not
only ruled over their own people but also other less civilized countries. The king s power and
authority cannot be questioned and his actions cannot be judged. The king of the Belgium took
the throne in 1865 and king Leonard tried to become an absolute monarch. To reach his desires he
tries to appeal to its people by getting Congo as Belgium colony and succeeds. Leonard by getting
Congo and absolute control over economics the same time he gains control over Parliament, which
loses its influence, and becomes a subordinate to the royal house. The basis of the Traditional
authority is that its followers cannot challenge it, but changes happen in the world, and as the world
moved into the road of progress people started to question Traditional authority. Education is very
crucial in understanding why people start to challenge Traditional authority, as something that takes
their rights and freedom. Mostly 90% of population were not educated and did not new the routes of

It is basically a legal process of avoiding paying too much taxes through finding tax loopholes, by
using the existing tax laws at own advantage (Murray, 2008). One example of tax avoidance was
shown by Browning in her article, IRS Aims to Curb Offshore Tax Avoidance Tactic, where she
showing on how internationally trading companies try to avoid taxes by using the transfer
pricing tactics. The transfer pricing tactic stands for companies transferring their income back
overseas by undercharging or overpaying foreign subsidiaries for goods and services (2008, p.

independent entities and pay taxes, typically 35 percent, on profits brought back to the United

various tax allowances for education, medical bills, to reduce some amount for each depended,
etc. Tax evasion, on the other hand, is the other side of the tax avoidance and is considered to be
a crime. It is a willfully attempt to evade or defeat the payment of federal income taxes (Lectric

The Battle Of Churchill As A Scapegoat For The Failure
As history unfolded, the Dardanelles offensive failed, but the ground invasion plans for
Gallipoli went ahead as planned. By the end of the campaign, massive amounts of lives had been
lost on the British side, and it was a decisive failure. Dardanelles and Gallipoli were very much a
prime example of something Churchill would do over and over again: see positives, but not
negatives or consequences, only possibilities. These campaigns were the end of Churchill
politically for a time, along with the Asquith government. Asquith was forced to form a wartime
coalition government with the Conservatives, who demanded the resignation of Churchill. While
Churchill became a scapegoat for the failure, while he did play some part in it, everyone had
seem to forgotten the roles of Asquith, Kitchener, and everyone else involved in the planning of
this military disaster. While he heavily mourned the loss of his position, Churchill moved on. He
journeyed to France, intent on returning to his soldier days. Sir John French offered him the
comfort post of an aid or a commander of a brigade at the front. Churchill chose the second option,
but only after he gained experience beforehand. He then chose to be assigned to the Grenadier
Guards, Second Battalion. This was his first true experience with the horrors of trench warfare. The
unit was eventually withdrawn and Churchill expected to get command of a brigade. Asquith later

Argumentative Essay On Abolish The Penny
Pennies are one of America s oldest treasures, but what is ironic about this specific treasure, is that
it has no wealth. America s classic coin the penny, is beginning to prove to be a second rate coin
when it comes to its use. And though many already cherish the coin for its history, the penny proves
to be completely counterproductive in today s society. After debating of whether or not the penny
should be extinguished, there is no doubt that the penny is worthless, easily replaceable, and a
waste of time. As society continues to up the prices on goods, the penny becomes completely
worthless to the modern economic system. In fact, most items, if not all, are completely above the
amount range of the penny. In Abolish the Penny William Safire writes that, You can t buy

is an irony when it comes to penny candy, when you can t even use your one centcointo purchase

economy to affect Nederlander s ticket sales? Why or why not?
2.Now a days, concerts of famous artists are usually held in big stadiums and theaters, which
brings a huge crowd of fans for affordable ticket prices and the same time, satisfies the high
demanded payment for the top artists and earns a profit for the organizers of the shows. However,
there are concert management companies, like Nederlander, that manages to charge higher ticket
prices for small theater performances and to deliver a sellout crowd night after night (Video Case:
Nederlander, p.1). Why is Nederlander able to do that when audiences could pay less at stadium
concerts?
Operating in a free market system makes Nederlander work hard and find their way to succeed.
Their tactic is to match the right band with the right target audience (Video Case: Nederlander, p.1).
Believing that each artist or band has their unique audience, the marketing department of
Nederlander is publicizing the shows by executive targeting a definite customer sector. Another
important factor of the success of Nederlander is that they have learned to make money based on
precise economic calculation (Video Case: Nederlander, p.1). By matching the high demand for top
artists with the low supply of tickets for Nederlander small venues, they find out the equilibrium

Themes Of Conflicts In The Maltese Falcon
Dashiell Hammett who worked for a detective agency, wrote the novel The Maltese Falcon in
1929. In this novel the protagonist is a fictional character that Hammett created and named Sam
Spade. Sam is a private detective hired by another character in the novel named Brigid O
Shaughnessy. Being a detective comes with many job responsibilities and being a private detective
becomes even more complicated. In Hammett s novel there are many conflicts throughout his
writing. Most conflicts have to do with Spade in some form considering he is the detective and
also the protagonist. Are the conflicts in the story relating to Spade within himself; man versus self,
or caused by another character; man versus man? When it comes to conflicts in literature there are
two main types; internal and external. There are multiple different types of conflicts that can appear
in literature, usually all stories or novels have at least one conflict. What is a story without a
conflict? An internal conflict is a conflict that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has to do with the conflict between two characters in a writing. Man versus. man has to do
with the differences in morals, beliefs, or ethics between the two characters. It can also have to do
with an emotional or physical encounter. Man versus nature is when a conflict is created between
the character and nature its self. Lastly when an issue with a character and their government or
society comes up in literature that is called man versus society. Within the story The Maltese
Falcon Sam Spade deals with multiple conflicts throughout Hammett s writing. Although some
conflicts in the story are due to external factors, Sam Spades conflicts are internal conflicts. This
means Spades conflicts are man versus self. Sam Spade faces conflicts with other characters but
the reason for these conflicts and how Sam Spade handles the conflicts, are due to internal factors
like his morals, beliefs, values, and

Misconceptions Of Grief Essay
3 Dangerous Misconceptions About the Phases of Grief
Everyone reacts and processes events in life differently. For example, to miss the train while you
are leaving for a weekend getaway could make some people go into a panic and it could even ruin
their entire weekend by having this rough start. While the next person might look at it as a minor
setback that just makes the trip more interesting.
Another example could be a breakup or divorce from a long term significant other. While one
person may be excited about starting a new chapter in life, another may find it hard to embrace their
sense of identity without the other person in their life any more.
Or the loss of a job, one person may simply move on looking for the next job trusting fate has
something else in store, while another may shut down and turn to drugs or alcohol for comfort as
they cannot see themselves in a different kind of role. The human ... Show more content on

Misconception #1: You are Done Grieving Once You Complete all the Phases
KJSomehow the idea spawned from the five phases of grief that by working through this process,
you will at some point be done grieving. That s it. You re healed. You will no longer experience the
emotions of grief.
Wrong. Nothing can ever replace that loved one. Throughout life, there will be forever moments
that bring back the stages of grief that will come and go.
A thought of your loved one could trigger emotions that feel like depression.
Just thinking about how different your life is after their death may still seem unreal, as it did during
the initial shock stage.
Remembering how their life was at the very end while they were dying can trigger thoughts of
what you could have done differently, or what you would give to have them back, which is
consistent with

Summary Of A Thing Like Me
A Thing Like Me
Carr begins chapter 10, A Thing Like Me, with Joseph Weizenbaum, a MIT PC researcher who
imagined a PC program that could parse and react to language. The program was called ELIZA.
ELZA could recognize speech patterns and could rephrase sentences in question form and was
displayed to have the identity of a psychotherapist. When ELIZA first appeared in the 60 s, some
people actually mistook her for human.
A Thing Like Me is probably one of the most vital chapters in this book because it comes to the
conclusion that computers are taking over our lives. Our group agrees came to the conclusion that
when Carr argues point he does it so subtle that the reader may not realize that its only his opinion.
His argument that people are becoming too dependent on technology is weaved through the
explanation of ELIZA: a computer application program that offered a mechanic clarity, replacing
language s human messiness with a clean internal computer. (202)
ELIZA software was used in helping to treat mental illnesses: patients were able to talk to a
machine instead of a psychotherapist. The outcome of this experiment showed that if the patient
couldn t tell whether he or she was talking to a computer, the computer is just a valuable as a
therapist. Carr uses this to argue and prove that people can be easily replaced by technology.
To comprehend the impacts of a PC, Weizenbaum contended that one needed to see the machine
with regards to our past technologies and

The Relationship Between Religious Institutions And Society
In 2013, Pope Francis delivered an apostolic exhortation on family life, Amoris Laetitia, better
known as The Joy of Love. Establishing a sense of resolution within the Catholic Church about
homosexuality has also reopened the original debate on the propriety of a coexisting homosexual
Christian. This has been a concern in not only the Catholic Church, but sub religions within the
entire Christian community. It is interesting to comprehend the relationship between religious
organizations and society mainly how one influences the other in doctrines, values, and beliefs,
specifically in regards to homosexuality. Regarding the relationship between Christian religious
institutions, society, and homosexuality, the articles should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hilliard discussed when, in London in the 1880s, a subculture of homosexuality began to take its
own collective form and that this subculture felt freed from the respectability and the puritanism of
the churches. This is due to the fact that Anglo Catholicism had looser sets of religious practices,
and because of this it actually increased the amount of social rebels within the churches. These two
pieces of evidence, however, are not entirely concrete because it is anecdotal; however, they
strongly imply that the Catholic churches are outwardly against homosexuality but have a
scandalous reputation of being homosexually inclusive. They also strongly imply that the
authoritarian nature behind a religious institution may also have an influence on society s
attendance of churches and what they feel comfortable practicing. While the other articles have
given a brief background of homosexuality within the church, Altemeyer used actual studies that can
help explain the actual prejudice within the Catholic Church against homosexuals. His goal was to
find how one s religious ethnocentrism affected how they viewed homosexuality. He used a
religious ethnocentrism scale, which demonstrates the tendency for anyone to put their own group
in a position of centrality and worthwhile creating and reinforcing negative attitudes and behaviors
toward outgroups. Within this 16 question scale, 2145 psychology students and their parents

A View from the Bridge
Literature Coursework Modern Drama
What is the dramatic function of Alfieri s character in A View from the Bridge ?
A View from the Bridge is a play written by Arthur Miller. Miller s inspiration for this play is
close to his heart. He grew up in New York City; his parents were illegal immigrants into the
United States looking for work. Alfieri is a key component, not only is he a character he is also
a narrator. He acts as a chorus to the play and an aid to the audience. Alfieri plays many small
roles to combine and create a depth and understanding to the play such as the connection to the title
of the play, how he is utilises time switches and the effectiveness of them, how he behaves as a
chorus of the Greek tragedies and how he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He takes on a dual role of the lawyer and commentator. He alerts Eddie that he won t have a friend
in the world if he keeps pushing the boundaries, he already knows Eddie s tragedy is inevitable and
builds a sense of foreshadowing. Miller has three purposes in this scene for Alfieri: to reveal the
acceptance of Eddie s feelings towards Catherine, to convey how it might affect Beatrice and to
be the voice of reasoning. He bluntly tells Eddie that there is no positive way out. When Eddie
implies he may have feelings for Catherine Alfieri is already aware and implies that this will be
his fatal flaw. he never realises it, but though the years there is too much love for the daughter,
there is too much love for the niece . This explicitly tells Eddie to let the feelings go, Alfieri is
conscious about the fact Eddie does have strong feelings towards Catherine and he is also a
perceptive character which Eddie is not, but Alfieri is alert that this will be Eddie s downfall.
During Eddie s confession time he confides his fear that Rodolpho is homosexual and is
pretending to love Catherine as an opportunity to obtain a green card. Eddie says He s stealing
from me! and it s breakin my heart . This really allows the audience to feel the intensity of the
frustration Eddie feels. The scenes have now created a cathartic effect because the tension has been
released now that Eddie s feelings are in the open from the audience s

  • 2. Emily Dickinson And The Village Blacksmith The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This poem is about an honest, hardworking blacksmith who provides for his family by working long hours at the forge. And the message of the poem is through your life you will eventually change the world by the things you do, and you make your mark on the world by looking hard every day. There is a Certain Slant of Light is a poem by Emily Dickinson. In the poem it describes the feeling of hurt and oppression ironically using light as the instrument of hurting. Throughout this essay I will be explaining and going into detail of the literary elements found in each individually, but also found in both of these poems. The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision. Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. I believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver different messages, and things to think about while reading this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of eugenics was eventually picked up by Germany, China, Peru, India and Bangladesh. The movement is still in effect till this day; however, it is not as prevalent as it once was. The beginning of the Eugenics Movement all started at Cold Spring Harbor, New York. The United States coined the term Eugenicsfrom Great Britain in the early 1900s. In the year 1910, a man by the name of Charles B. Davenport founded the Eugenics Records Office (ERO). The funds for this building came from Mrs. E.H. • 7. Aristotle s Ideas Of Potential Infinity Aristotle supported the idea of potential infinity but refuted the idea of actual infinity . He defined potential infinity by saying if you are counting natural numbers, logic would tell us that we can always add one to the previous number and that can potentially go on forever. He also said that we could potentially use this logic in geometry if we imagined a line that extended beyond both points with no recognizable end. On the contrary, actual infinityseems paradoxical because even if we had an infinite number of things in a category then infinity would still be whole in a sense with a beginning and an end. Aristotle s ideas were supported for many centuries ( Aristotle , n.d.). The philosopher Zeno of Elea (495 435 B.C.E.) came up with the idea of infinite divisibility . The basic concept of the theory was that you could take any object, cut it in half, cut those halves in half, and so on until you reached the end of the divisibility process and were left with only particles, or elements as he called them. The first conclusion he drew from this theory was that the elements were essentially nothing, which meant that the sum of all the pieces made the whole object nothing. The second conclusion was that the elements were something but that they had no size, which meant that the sum of the whole object also had no size. The last conclusion was that the elements are something and they do have a size. But that would mean that you would never reach the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Further, if we want to see how our economic well being is changing over time, we can calculate how real GDP is changing in percentage terms (for example, real GDP grew 4% last quarter). Now, we turn our attention to another important measure of the economy. We want to measure how the cost of living changes over time. The main intuition here is that, over time, peoples incomes and the prices of goods and services increase. 30 years ago an ice cream sundae cost $1 and a typical economics professor earned $35,000. In dealing with the other races Americans had many opposed views and different ideas for their cultures and also their sufficiency of self government. Americans in the nineteenth century used domestic policy to culturally deprive the newly freed slaves and the American Indians, then in the early twentieth century Americans used newly gained power and foreign policy to help and rule over the Philippines and the people who inhabited there. America is no stranger to imposing their own ideas onto other people and even other places. Slaves once freed really were not free at all. • 23. Feasibility Report On Ipo s, And The Process Of Buying An Ipo I compile, through various mediums, information regarding initial public offerings, or IPO s. The report includes areas such as defining an IPO, the performance of IPO s, the current market for IPO s, and the process of buying an IPO. Therefore, the feasibility report is directed at the retail or non professional investor who may be engaged in purchasing IPO s. I look to determine if the underlying facts create certainty that these instruments are profitable currently and in the long run. It appears through study that investors have increased their consumption of initial public offerings since the 2007 2008 financial crisis. Many investors believe purchasing IPO s can create quick realized gains. However, it appears that the performance of these issues has lagged the broader market, which in my opinion should steal zeal from these risky investments. The figures throughout this report should indicate and reaffirm that not all IPOs, whether popular or unpopular, will benefit the professional or non professional investor. It must be noted that not everything is the same in financial markets and results may vary significantly from this report in a single incident or sample study. INTRO Over time, financial markets have become more complex and possibly more confusing for the average or retail investor. It appears through recent observation that non professional investors do not understand the process, importance of, and potential harm that IPO s may cause to a portfolio in the ... • 24. Jackson vs. Calhoun and the Nullification Crisis It has been rare in American history for presidents and vice presidents not to get along, but it has happened on a few occasions: Adams and Jefferson, Kennedy and Johnson, and Eisenhower and Nixon are a few examples (Jackson vs. Calhoun Part 1 1). However, the most controversial relationship between president and his assistant was between Andrew Jackson and John C. Calhoun. Their disagreements began very early on in Jackson s administration, and lasted until after the resolution of the Nullification Crisis. Nullification is the refusal of a state to recognize a federal law within its boundaries and deem that law unconstitutional. In this case, South Carolina, led by John C. Although Calhoun had stated in his Ordinance that South Carolina would not respond to any forceful acts by the government to attempt to get Calhoun to back down, Jackson found a way to outsmart his opponent. Jackson had congress pass a bill in 1833, which allowed him to use soldiers to enforce the tariff measures (Nullification Crisis 1). After the Force Bill was passed, Jackson sent several warships and hundreds of soldiers to Charleston to enforce the laws of the government. Some people argue that what Jackson did was wrong because based on the constitution, Calhoun had the right to declare Nullification for South Carolina. However, what Jackson did was also constitutional and enabled the United States of America to remain as one. The publics usually believe that the inappropriate application of derivatives should be to blame for this, which is totally wrong. It is apparent that there is no single financial crisis resulting from only a kind of financial product. The market price of the forward contract is therefore variable, but the contract s delivery price is always the same. As to a forwards, both parties have an obligation to execute the contract at the maturity and since forwards does not require any outlay to enter, the total payoff from the contract is exactly equal to the total profit or loss of the investor from the contract. Most holders of forwards are usually hedgers who is facing potential risks. Since that, they want to use the forwards contracts to avoid the adverse price movements in the future and offset the risk exposure as much as possible. However, speculators are willing to take some risks in the markets for potential equivalent return. Summary Of A Thing Like Me A Thing Like Me Carr begins chapter 10, A Thing Like Me, with Joseph Weizenbaum, a MIT PC researcher who imagined a PC program that could parse and react to language. When ELIZA first appeared in the 60 s, some people actually mistook her for human. A Thing Like Me is probably one of the most vital chapters in this book because it comes to the conclusion that computers are taking over our lives. Our group agrees came to the conclusion that when Carr argues point he does it so subtle that the reader may not realize that its only his opinion. His argument that people are becoming too dependent on technology is weaved through the explanation of ELIZA: a computer application program that offered a mechanic clarity, replacing language s human messiness with a clean internal computer. (202) ELIZA software was used in helping to treat mental illnesses: patients were able to talk to a machine instead of a psychotherapist. The outcome of this experiment showed that if the patient couldn t tell whether he or she was talking to a computer, the computer is just a valuable as a therapist. To comprehend the impacts of a PC, Weizenbaum contended that one needed to see the machine with regards to our past technologies and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Establishing a sense of resolution within the Catholic Church about homosexuality has also reopened the original debate on the propriety of a coexisting homosexual Christian. This has been a concern in not only the Catholic Church, but sub religions within the entire Christian community. It is interesting to comprehend the relationship between religious organizations and society mainly how one influences the other in doctrines, values, and beliefs, specifically in regards to homosexuality. Hilliard discussed when, in London in the 1880s, a subculture of homosexuality began to take its own collective form and that this subculture felt freed from the respectability and the puritanism of the churches. This is due to the fact that Anglo Catholicism had looser sets of religious practices, and because of this it actually increased the amount of social rebels within the churches. These two pieces of evidence, however, are not entirely concrete because it is anecdotal; however, they strongly imply that the Catholic churches are outwardly against homosexuality but have a scandalous reputation of being homosexually inclusive. They also strongly imply that the authoritarian nature behind a religious institution may also have an influence on society s attendance of churches and what they feel comfortable practicing. While the other articles have given a brief background of homosexuality within the church, Altemeyer used actual studies that can help explain the actual prejudice within the Catholic Church against homosexuals. His goal was to find how one s religious ethnocentrism affected how they viewed homosexuality. He used a religious ethnocentrism scale, which demonstrates the tendency for anyone to put their own group in a position of centrality and worthwhile creating and reinforcing negative attitudes and behaviors toward outgroups. Within this 16 question scale, 2145 psychology students and their parents answered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He bluntly tells Eddie that there is no positive way out. When Eddie implies he may have feelings for Catherine Alfieri is already aware and implies that this will be his fatal flaw. he never realises it, but though the years there is too much love for the daughter, there is too much love for the niece .
