Ebola Personal Statement
International Student Speaks About His Time as a International Student
After some time of thinking, I decided to migrate to the UK to join the military and to further my
education because after considering the pros and cons, the UK seemed to be more beneficial for
me and allowed me to develop personally. I undertook my initial BSc in Biomedical Science at De
Montfort University in Leicester. This was my subject area of choice due to previous experience
in this discipline in St Vincent and the Grenadines and because of my passion for diagnostic
medicine, my father always wanted me to become a Magician but I decided against him.
After seeing my family suffer from many heart aches I have always wanted to play a role in
helping others with ill health without actually being on the front line. After finishing my BSc, I
decided to broaden my knowledge and prospects by doing an MSc Environmental Health with the
University of Derby Online Learning. Even though my desire is to study about diagnostic
medicine, there is no doubt that prevention of illness is better than cure ; a saying which I have
always heard as a child from my parents and friends

African American Racism
Since African Americans came into America they have been looked at as unequal. From 1619
1865 Whites controlled African Americans in slavery. Within slavery, African Americans were
overworked, abused, and sold. Even when slavery ended it was not the end of discrimination.
African Americans dealt with Jim Crow laws with which were state and local laws in the United
States enacted between 1876 and 1965. An example of these laws would be It shall be unlawful
for a negro and white person to play together or in company with each other at any game of pool
or billiards . All of this discrimination still affects society today 152 years later. African Americans
are still affected today by past discrimination. An example of this would be according to the U.S.
Census African Americans are three times more likely than Whites to live in an impoverished
household. Many neighborhoods are predominantly one racewithin it, to live in the city is seen
more as an African Americantrait while living in the suburbs is considered White. Nothing can fix
the discrimination in the past but America has made efforts to help end it these efforts include
affirmative action as well as the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. Although nothing can fix the
horrendous acts of discrimination, the United States has progressively gotten better to end it.
There are many components in African American criticism that make it a very complex issue.
Within African American there are six main components these

Vertical Structure
Courtney, your discussion board post covered all of the questions thoroughly and accurately. The
exchange of information among organizational employees is vital for an organization to succeed
(Cabrera Cabrera, 2002). In reference to your analysis of shared information, you correctly pointed
out how the structure, tasks, strategy, and culture of performance and learning organizations are
very different from one another. The performance organization is designed with a chain of
command or hierarchy (Daft, 2013). The vertical structure makes the organization more rigid or
inflexible than the loose or flexible culture found in a learning organization. According to Daft
(2013), vertical linkages are not sufficient for most organizations today (p. 133). A performance

However, it is interesting that you believe non profit managers do not need to pay more attention
to stakeholders than business managers do. It is true that non profit organizations are not
organized for the sole purpose of making money, but non profit organizations are still required to
pay employee salaries and other business expenses. In other words, non profits are still
accountable to their respective stakeholders. Marshall and Woodward (2004) postulate that, It
would also be reasonable to speculate that the number of stakeholders that a non profit
organization must take into account is greater than for profit organizations (p. 101). Your
statement that non profits should be managed in a way which places ethics or the needs of others
ahead of a profit is correct. However, non profit managers must find a balance between the needs
of others and the organization s need for positive cash flow. Many non profits would not exist
without the support of their stakeholders. Non profits need to pay as much attention to their

program focuses on putting the customers first, by Do(ing) the unexpected . The operational plan
focused on customer service, being in stock on all products and creating a better store appearance
(inside the physical store and within the community).
In efforts to focus on customer service, more employees were hired and trained. Upper management
also equipped each team member with more technology (PDA s, walkie talkies, etc). There was a
companywide initiative to integrate Hispanic merchandise, marketing and staffing.

materialized into The Home Depot s stock outs dramatically decreasing.
To create a stronger public image, Home Depot created The Home Depot Foundation which helps
with community home building, disaster relief and veteran job placement assistance.
These initiatives have greatly improved customer satisfaction and recognition in the community by
increasing ratings from 55% to 75% (2008 to 2012).

Cultural Imperialism
Body Images, Eating Disorders, and Cultural Imperialism As society begins to grow a
dependency on media, particularly social media, more and more research is being conducted on
the effects of this kind of exposure on self esteem, body image, and more importantly eating
disorders. As society becomes codependent on the technology that has made life that easier,
exposure to marketing techniques and other social cues has increased and with that increase so has
the negative perception of body image increased. It is because of this growing tendency of humans
to develop subconscious ideas of the perfect body that this paper looks to answer the question of
whether American media is portraying these unhealthy images of a perfect body or perfect humanto
society. This causes several negative tendencies from low self esteem to an array of mental eating
disorders due to the dissatisfaction with one s own body. It is the opinion of this paper that
American media is in fact imprinting these ideas of a perfect and unhealthy image of the human
body onto the general public, whether it be knowingly or unknowingly.
Method
The author reviews studies on the effects of ideal body images in the American media on the
general public, comments on these studies effects on both males and females, and outlines changes
that must be implemented to negate the negative effects on self esteem and the perception of body
image.

The Role Of Scientific Background On Managerial Work
Several writers and economists have provided a historical background to managerial work s
definition by conducting research in a variety of methods. In other words, nowadays the nature
of managerial work can be described as a set of roles with specific functions in order to
effectively and efficiently achieve goals. These details will be discussed in the following parts by
providing a critical analysis of the studies on managerial work. In addition, the essay will cover the
research methods used by Fayol, Mintzberg, Kanter, Gronn, and others, and criticisms to identify
and evaluate merits and demerits. There are numerous factors that may influence the future of
research on managerial work, but this paper will define the role and an impact... Show more content

For instance, Mintzberg (1973) claims that the Fayol s management model has nothing in common
with the reality of managerial work. Thus, relying on own observation of five senior managers,
he concludes that managers would get some responsibilities and behaviours that will need to be
adhered to with the type of management they are doing or for the type of organisation that they
are working for, (Mintzberg, 1971; Fells, 2000). However, the main point of debates is the fact
that the classical management theory outlined only general principles and provided a
framework of what is the nature of managerial work. Fayol s work is also regarded as being one
of the first to be written down about manager s roles based on observation research method. So
as he was the first there is always a chance that he could be wrong, or this could be because times
change, and this is apparent when trying to compare the classical approach to Mintzberg s
systems approach. Although Fayol s classical approach was not really a tested solution so lacked
any evidence, whereas another approach has been tested and can therefore be backed up by
evidence to make it a more solid argument. In this case, the point is that the future studies could be

Long-Distance Trade And Economic Development.. Many Countries
LONG DISTANCE TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Many countries in the 15th
century were isolated from communication with outsiders from other countries, thus preventing
introduction of new ideas that would encourage either growth or change. They were bound by old
traditions that were hard to ignore but this also created a situation whereby these countries were
literally bursting at the seam for new ideas and growth. Finally ignoring years of isolationism,
Chinese and European hierarchies slowly began financing various expeditions seeking not only to
become trading partners with other countries, but also looking for new territories to explore and
settle. These expeditions slowly began to bring back an infusion of great wealth which, in turn,...

Eventually, things began to change in China and it wasn t long before China became the first
country to develop paper money, sophisticated brokerage practices and banking institutions. There
were a number of factors that drove this; first there was the huge size of China itself. Other factors
were the difficulties involved in long distance trade using metal currencies and the minor role of
the government in regulating the economy. China also used a tribute system as the basis for trade
and restricted access of foreign traders to Chinese markets, particularly by limiting them to
specified ports under controls established by the central government. Under the Qianlong Emperor,
the western companies were limited specifically to Canton where they could have contact only with
officially designated firms, or Hong. On the other side of the world, trade significantly influenced
the course of history in West Africa (A). All the wealth made through trade was used to build larger
kingdoms and empires and to protect their trade interests, these kingdoms built strong armies.
Kingdoms that desired more control of the trade also developed strong armies to expand their
kingdoms and protect them from their competition. Long distance trade helped the local economy

Male And Female Rapper Through Their Music
Male vs. Female rapper through their music Rap music is really popular to us, young people,
and sometimes adults, too. In my opinion, I think that rap is a way to allow all of the rappers to
express themselves, their voices, their experience, and their feeling from their life. And in some
other people opinion, they also describe rap music as the story or the voice of the streets.
According to a music articles The birth of Rap: A Look Back from NPR.org website, rap music
was born and began to develop in the middle of year 1970s. They are firstly formed and played
by the Black communities, and then slowly spread out to the world. In rap world, at first they are
only male rappers who use music to express themselves and their pain towards the world. Then,
women also began to rap to be able to express their thoughts more and more. Female and male
rapper are sharing the same purpose of express themselves through their songbut they are different
in the way they use their lyrics, the subject they choose to rap on and the feeling they express to
their fans and their songs listeners.
Female and male rappers are separate themselves when they come to choose their lyrics to rap. I
would say that female rappers are most likely less using negative words to describe thing or
someone else than the male rappers. According to the article From Fly Girls To Bitches and Hos
by Joan Morgan, she stated that male rapper is usually use the word Bitches and Hos when they

Within The Blues
James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues is a story of how a distant and conflicting relationship between two
brothers is saved by the powerful message within music. In Sonny s Blues the music portrays a very
powerful message. The story begins with Sonny being arrested for heroin use. Sonny s older
brother is a school teacher and did not want to believe that the news was true, I didn t want to
believe that I d ever see my brother going down, coming to nothing, all that light in his face gone
out, in the condition I d already seen so many others (Baldwin 293). Sonny used his music and

Although Sonny s addiction to drugs and love for music seemed similar because he used both to
escape reality, they were inevitably more different. The empowerment Sonny got from drugs was
nothing but an illusion, unlike the strength he gained from music. Sonny s Blues illustrates the
ability to stay sane through the power of music. Sonny s father died when he was fifteen and
sadly He and Sonny hadn t ever got on too well. And this was partly because Sonny was the apple
of his father eye. It was because he love Sonny so much and was frightened for him, that he was
always fighting with him (Baldwin 298). Sonny lost both his parents at a young age, which left
him with his older brother as his only family. Sonny s brother leaves for the army and ...already
decided that he d have to move in with Isabel and her folks (Baldwin 302). Sonny was not in
favor of the arrangement but he really did not have much of a choice. Sonny s brother cheered
him up by saying, They got a piano at Isabel s. You can practice on it (Baldwin 303). Sonny
stayed with Isabel and her folks, who tolerated him out of respect for his brother. Sonny s loneliness
caused him to seclude himself from everyone around him. Sonny used music to overcome the
loneliness he felt. The music was how Sonny adapted to the new unfamiliar environment. Sonny

Socrates Flaws
Socrates, in a simple but bold statement, proclaims wisdom as being the cardinal virtue. He
believed that if one does not examine oneself, their life has no true meaning. Socrates defended the
idea and virtue of self examination, for he believed it is through change and growth that people
attain self betterment. Not only this, but this method of critical reflection also realigns values with
what is actually important in life, such as wisdom and spirituality. Socratesbelieved that
examination and scrutiny of one s beliefs were necessary in order to improve oneself. Without
review, people would never be able to see their faults. Socrates lists this reason in Apology as why
he cross examines people: For I do nothing but go about persuading... Show more content on

A person with unexamined values generally holds the insignificant to be what is important and
what is truly significant to be inconsequential. In the Apology, Socrates addresses the men of
Athens on this subject: Are you not ashamed of heaping up the greatest amount of money and
honour and reputation, and caring so little about wisdom and truth and the greatest improvement of
the soul (Plato)? Through this statement, Socrates argument perfectly encapsulates the state that an
unexamined society exists in one that values greatness over goodness. Though over two thousand
years have passed since Socrates stated this before the Athenian court, it remains an accurate
portrait of society; the majority of people amass material things, strive to become famous, and
seemingly work only to gain wealth, all while hardly caring about knowledge, morals, or personal
integrity. These skewing of values are the result of an unexamined life. People who never inspect
what they hold valuable are swept up into society s race to riches and fame, instead of focusing on
enriching themselves and others with wisdom and truth. People often ruin their lives as well as
others in pursuit of their vices. Socrates knew that by examining oneself and what values are
genuinely important, one not only safeguards himself against such downfalls, but they can also be
led to the most valuable things of

Water Pollution In South Africa
Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens
highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries
increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its
accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of
water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the
year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015)
The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives
of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of
water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of
death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases
pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river banks (or any other natural water
source) because they use the water directly from the river without sufficiently purifying it or
without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after exposure is limited.
This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is otherwise
preventable. (Umngeni Valley Nature Reserve, 2017) The aim and focus of this investigation is to
determine the impact that the town of Howick has on the water

have always enjoyed the thought of artificial intelligence of a machine being able to think and
act on its own. It s a popular theme for novels and movies too. And who of us wouldn t love to
have a personal robot to anticipate our needs and take care of them? I even remember a production
from the local planetarium about computers worldwide that networked and synergized their data.
At the end of the production this networked computer system commanded, Let there be light! and
a new universe was born. Artificial intelligence has as many definitions as people defining it. For
some it is only a matter of a machine being able to analyze data and then take an appropriate
action. But I think for most, it means that a machine can actually think, can learn, can create, can
come up with original ideas that it can act like a person and be indistinguishable from a human
being in its actions and thoughts. If artificial intelligence is only a machine or a system acting on its

Women s Rights In The 19th Century Essay
In Great Britain during the nineteenth century, women experienced less rights in many aspects of
their daily lives when compared to twenty first century. Women lived a stricter lifestyle and men
decided on many decisions in a women s life. During the nineteenth century in Europe, women
and men had an expectation to live on opposite spheres of society. Men were familiarized with

It depicted the contemporary discussions of the need for women to obtain a higher education.
In 1848, the establishment of the first women s college in London, an example later
recommended by Thomas Henry Huxley, a strong advocate of advanced education for women.
By the end of Victoria s reign, women could take degrees at twelve universities of university
colleges and could study, although not earn a degree, at Oxford and Cambridge (Abrams 991).
There was still a lot of change that needed to be done but it was just the beginning of change to
come for women s equality. Women began trending into literature in the Victorian period. As stated
in Nineteenth Century Women and Periodicals, while constructions of gender made it difficult for
women under the best of circumstances to aspire to a literary life in the Victorian period, it was
not impossible either to break into print or, eventually, to take the larger step (Trela 90). Strides
were taken towards equality in education by women, and literature provided women and men a way
to put down their feeling and thoughts on women s equality. As stated by Chevalier, Miss

Underage Crimes And Charges For Juvenile Crime
Underage Charges
Juvenile crimes are an ongoing serious epidemic all over the world that s been increasing at a
steady pace. Many juveniles have committed crimes, that leads us to a variety of different
perspectives on this strong controversial topic. Which brings up the question should individuals
under the age of 16 charged with felonies be tried as adults. In society today, they are indecisive
over this subject. They shouldn t be charged because of different factors that affects the minor s
environment such as age and maturity levels, psychological issues, and lifetime effects.
Adolescents should be accountable for their action and face any consequences that comes along
with the crime they committed. Judges contemplate that the minors need to understand that it won t
be tolerated and any perpetrators caught in any allegations will be prosecuted and arraigned in
court. They believe if they break the law they should have the responsibility for their actions to the
full extent of the law. That they are not above the law and age shouldn t be a reason why they
should be taken leniently and should receive severe punishments for their conduct. Emphasizing on
the criminal act itself and not the delinquents age. To them what matters most is for justice to be
served and the form of punishment used. That they should not be given special treatment for the
crime. This is not the correct process of trying to fix this issue. Yes, they have the right to fair trial
by jury, but should

Case Study Of Agarwood
Introduction
As stated by the case study, we have just begun our new jobs as the conservationist of Aquilaria
malaccensis in Sarawak. So, what is conservationist? Firstly, conservationist is a person who
works to protect and preserve animals, plants, and natural resources. Meanwhile, A. malaccensis is
a large evergreen tree which can be found in mixed forest habitat usually 0 to 1000m above the sea
level. Thus, as the conservationist of A. malaccensis, we are the people who are responsible to
protect and preserve the A. malaccensis.
In addition, A. malaccensis is in the family Thymelacaeaceae where it is one of 15 tree species in
the genus Aquilaria. This species can be found in South and Southeast Asia which includes

The local sectors such as () have to find efforts to overcome the high demand of agarwood s
product. Scientists from the sector need to do a research on the tree so that it can be cultivated in
large scale yield (Mohd. Paiz, K. 2006). Thus, production of the agarwood product can be
increased, and at the same time the Aquilaria trees can be conserved.
Question 5 One of the important requirements for a successful germplasm collecting mission is
planning. Planning is the essential to the success because detailed information about the target
species should be collected such as the distribution of the Aquilaria species, genetic variation within
target species, breeding system, seed storage characteristics, collecting techniques and background
information on physical, biotic and human environment. A collecting programme must have its own
flexibility. This is to allow missions to be undertaken or postponed at relatively short notice. The
mission also should be flexible enough to make changes in the itinerary at short notice in the

Essay On Puppy Mill
When you are seeing the adorable puppy in the window of a pet store, flea market or even on the
internet you should just ask yourself where exactly are these puppies coming from? Roughly 90
percent of puppies in pet stores get them from puppy mills. What exactly is a puppy mill? Puppy
mills are commercial breeding facilities that mass produce dogs for sale through pet stores, or
directly to consumers through classifies ads or the internet. It is important to know that, in
many cases, puppy mills are not illegal. In most states, a breeding kennel can legally keep
dozens, even hundreds, of dogs in cages for their entire lives, as longs as the dogs are given the
basics of food, water, and shelter. The federal Animal Welfare Act passed in 1966, requires
breeders who have more than three breeding female dogs and sell puppies to pet stores or puppy
brokers to be licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In most cases, the
standards that breeders are required to meet by law are extremely minimal. In puppy mills,
female dogs are bred about twice a year until they can no longer produce puppies. Mothers and
their litters often suffer from malnutrition, exposure, and a lack of adequate veterinary care. Most
of them are bred far too early, before it is safe. Not only is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The dogs are in horribly dirty wire cages, walking on a floor of their own feces. Feces often

while the ammonia cause respiratory problems. These unsanitary living conditions attract bugs and
rodents, leading to infectious diseases. Even their food and water are contaminated, if there is any

Essay On Physics After The Discovery Of The Atom
PARTICLE PHYSICS AFTER THE DISCOVERY OF THE HIGGS
The world of physics had been developed a well established model of the atom. The standard
model had been pretty well tied up , with its group of 16 elementary particles and their nice set of
rules describing how they should interact. Physicists had observed until the Higgs discovery, 16
of these particles. The crowd was already beginning to desperate for a 17th particle that would
send the model in new and wild directions (supposedly). But the Higgs particle ruined the hopes
and expectations of everybody: it turned out to be very ordinary: its behavior was just like the
model said it would act, obeying every theorized rule [2]. Therefore, the Standard Model is
vindicated. And this was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The weak force, on the other hand, is associated with particles called W and Z bosons, very
massive comparing to the other particles.
The Higgs mechanism is thought to be responsible for this, now that the existence of the particle
is a fact: if we recognize the existence of the Higgs field, the W and Z bosons mix with this field,
acquiring mass, explaining the reason of why the W and Z bosons have mass. This unifies as well
the electromagnetic and weak forces into the electroweak force. [4]
An interesting side effect, much less important than the discoveries, indeed, but with enough
importance for itself, is the validation of the large amounts of effort and money invested in the
equipment like the LHC. This flattens the road for the investment in the next generation of
scientific machinery to keep researching. After analyzing the facts, this money is going to be very
needed in the near future. It has been theorized that dark energy is the bulk of the energy of the
universe, and the dark matter and energy existence is neither explained by the Standard Model. This
model canВґt explain gravity or the neutrino mass. Nowadays, scientific community knows that the
Standard Model is an approximation of another theory, more comprehensive and able to explain the
Higgs mass with a most natural approach. The reason is that the measured mass of the Higgs is
about 100 million billion times smaller than the value suggested by

Refugees In Ann Coulter s Essay
Dread, terror, and fear, creeping through the walls, continues to corrupt American morals, minute by
minute. With the onslaught of the Paris attacks, the question of whether or not America should
accept more refugees now governs over American politics, originally a question that does not need
questioning. Recently, Ann Coulter, an extreme conservative, posted an article named Importing
Terrorism and Other American Values regarding America s vetting process and America s
obligation towards refugees. Within her article, she ventures to devalue the vetting process and
denounce refugees and immigrants alike as crimecarriers. Although her argument appears both
logical and reasonable superficially, Coulter not only fails to cite her sources, but also
demonstrates consistent mastery of logical fallacies, misuse of evidence, and shallow knowledge
regarding immigrant and crime statistics. Coulter begins her article quoting President Obama, who
referred to the rejection of refugees as, a betrayal of our [American] values (cite1). She raises
concerns over the lack of protection for American citizens stating, Contrary to Obama s laughable

evidence, which may work for the general reader who may not have time to research. This cheap

Ahasuerus Political Satire
While most of us steadily pay attention to Hadassah the young Jewish girl who would later
become Queen Esther of Persia and would be instrumental in saving her people from total
annihilation, I would like to build the focus on the powerful and narcissistic Ahasuerus thought to
be based on the Persian King Xerxes of Persia, whom Leonidas fought with the famous 300. In
my assessment, was a political satire. Ahasuerus presents a singular mixture of pride and
weakness. First, Ahasuerus, known to be an impulsive and headstrong man, governed the empire
by whim rather than by wisdom. His pride drove him to display the most hyperbolic pomp in
order to dazzle the great men and the people of his empire. He tried to show off his Queen Vashti to

Cortes and Bernal Diaz s Motives for Writing Their...
Q: What were Cortes and Bernal Diaz s motives for writing their accounts of the conquest? How did
these motives color their narratives of the conquest?
Record keeping has been around since the beginning of time. Even before humans existed, the
planet earth keeps detailed records of itself in rocks, trees, and ice. Writing of events has been very
important in the process of capturing, storing, and sharing information. Writing also allows the
document to be sent off to a far off land without the story being sent through multiple story tellers,
losing and gaining valuable details making it something of a myth. People write differently
depending on the recipient and what their motives are. As we look at the writings of

Diaz was proud of what he and his fellow conquistadors had accomplished. By writing about his
accounts of the conquest he hoped to receive some recognition and reward from Spain. The
possibility of power, and economical growth motivated these writings. But it was not all about
money for him. He was a hard working man who wanted everyone to know his and his fellow
conquistadors true achievements.
After he finished the project, he learned that others had published before his. Chronicles were
published by accomplished writers who had not seen the events first hand, and according to Diaz,
contained many errors about what had actually happened (

or no credit was given to soldiers who did the grunt work.
This publication motivated Diaz to write his second book, which he called The True history of the
Conquest of New Spain . He wrote this book in opposition of the publications which he thought to
be incorrect. He again hoped his accomplishments would be seen by those in power and

him. Because of the time between the events and his writing, many doubted the validity and
accuracy of its content. Diaz assured everyone that he was able to retain the memories of the battles

Age Norms Within The Age
Age represents the length and duration of someone s life however; age also comes with an
individuals experience and maturity throughout his lifespan. Age norms are considered to be
what society believes an individual should act due to their own age. For example, having a job
as bus boy at a restaurant would fall under the category of age norms because typically teens are the
ones who occupy these kinds of jobs. As opposed to being older, the agenorms appropriate for a
waiter is someone who is a young adult or older. The difference in age norms in these two jobs is
being a waiter justifies you being an adult in comparison to being a bus boy, which people of
younger age usually occupy.
Acting your own age signifies the maturity one has. Although from time to time, we find ourselves
not acting our age in social situations. For example, the way I behave myself with my friends
totally differs from the way I behave with my parents. When I am with my parents I behave in a
more formal matter on the other hand, when I hang out with my friends the level of maturity and
formality drops enormously. When I am with my friends I feel that I don t need to act my age
because I am comfortable and let loose easier then if I am with my parents. A social situation in
where I typically don t act my age in is at concerts. In reality, concerts are age appropriate for
everyone but it s the way I react to the music and how I let loose that affects my level of maturity
to act my age. When, I

Summary Of The LA Riots
As a result of a detestable court decision and the visceral televised imagery of the beaten Rodney
King, police brutality became recognized as a ceaseless injustice oppressing black communities.
These events managed to spur a conversation most relevant today but one that many continue to
disregard. The LA Riots of 1992 still stands as one of if not the most critical event that tapped into
the way we view systematic racism by sparking deep rooted dialogue about the intermingling of race
, economics and injustice in America for African Americans. When looking back at the riots 25
years later, society has often received the needless white perspective and the necessary African
Americanvoice. However, many forget how many Korean Americans were affected by these events.
At the time, black and Korean communities were at odds with one another without understanding
each other s shared struggles as a result of the gradual segregation between wealthy white
communities and impoverished minority enclaves. With the winner of the 2017 Sundance audience
NEXT Award Gook, director, writer and actor Justin Chon remembers the 1992 LA Riots with the
rare Korean Americanperspective, one that reveals itself as a poignant picture of race and friendship.
Chon s sophomore feature opens with striking juxtaposition a dream like snapshot of an 11 year
old African American girl named Kamila dancing in front of a storefront consumed in flames. It is

##hol s Meaning Of Barbiturach, 1962 By Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol s work, Marilyn Diptych, 1962 is a depiction of an image of Marilyn Monroe who
was a famous actress as well as a sex symbol but had a dark ending, dying of barbiturate overdose.
In this work, Warhol captures both the life and tragic death of the superstar by recreating a publicity
photo of her. In the painting, the actress s face is portrayed fifty times, twenty five times in color
on the right and the same number of times in black and white on the left. One way to understand
how this specific work should be interpreted is by examining it as an expressionist theorist. To
experience this work properly I will act as an expressionist theorist and make sure to recognize my
feelings transmitted as I interpret the work, be aware of how it expresses emotion, and grasp the
uniqueness of the work.
As an expressionist theorist, I recognize that the use of color can express the artist s emotion.
Warhol used a warm color mix of bright yellow, orange, and turquoise on the right section and a
dull color mix of black and white tints on the left. By using mixed media that represents a slow
fade of the photos towards the end, Warhol captures life s transition from the bright and youthful
days when one is full of energy to the tragic halt caused by death, which is also signified by the
dull colors. Here, the artist provides a form of experience of life and death that the viewer can
relate to. The use of acrylic on canvas and screen painting shows a transition in life from the

A New Idea For The Proposal Of Race

Leo Alonso Cabrera
Professor Danielson

Introduction o Introduce the theme of your essay, which revolves around the concepts of race and
how college students choose to break social norms
College students are typically introduced to new, and often time radical ideas, that are very
different from the ones that they are shown in home.
Personal Anecdote: Before coming to school here in UCM, my dad would often talk to me in
many different occasions throughout my life about the concept of race and what it represents: o
Honor o Family o Education o Class
Many times he would emphasize to me that people of other races do not have the ability to value
the same things as a Hispanic would, and would many times reference the family of my Ex
Girlfriend, whose family is Native American and would often use stereotypes, such as Indian
Alcoholism to show me how their priorities are different than mine. She is not going to a UC, and
thus he makes that point of comparison on education to show how successful I am because of my
Hispanic values can surpass the concerns of an alcoholic Native American family.
Now propose the question o What is Race?
It is a concept that is created by Man to essentially control Man0 (The use of the law, Hudgins
v. Wright, p. 965).
According to Lopez, Race [to me] is defined as a vast group of people loosely bound together by

Burgeoning demand for uncoated bubble poses a direct threat to the long term viability of the

As a result, larger distributors typically carry competitive products. Margins on product resale is
generally higher than 10%. The proliferation of packaging products and poor product education
has caused confusion among end users. US consumers have traditionally viewed packaging

and influence roughly 40% of material purchase decisions. The US market is experiencing strong
growth, driven in part by the growth of the coated and uncoated bubbles segment. However,
AirCap s market share remains stagnant (Appendix A). It is apparent that a growing segment of
end users are willing to forgo product quality for a lower price. European firms, in particular, are

institutions, and various companies are all online in one form or another; being interconnected to
the internet of everything. A prominent aspect of information technology is security, and it has been
attracting a lot of attention as of late. IT Security has garnered many companies and individuals to
invest so much into it; that it has essentially created an industry of its own. However, can all of this
investment in IT Security really be justified? Let it be known that the internet is not secure. It was
originally created by the US military for communication purposes, and since then has grown into
network upon networks of computers and computer systems, for everyone to use. With the
exponential growth that the internet has taken on, it s very hard to make it as secure as one would

During the period of The French Revolution, Maximilien Robespierre, French lawyer and

historians, Robespierre is a very controversial figure. Some support his actions during the Reign of

Harriet Tubman Greatest Achievements

I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery. Thomas Jefferson once said. Harriet Tubman

Although Harriet Tubman s achievements as a caregiver in Upstate New York and being a spy

kept and taught things to be good handmaids. Under the Aunts watch, escaping the red center was
impossible because the Aunts were very strict. As the narrator states that Moira threatened an
Aunt s life in order to escape. Nonetheless it would have been impossible to escape because they
were strict, and holding electric weapons Aunt Sara and Aunt Elizabeth patrolled; they had electric
cattle prods slung on thongs from their leather belts. (Atwood, 2) This shows that women s
collaboration to resist the system was weak. Also, the system brainwashed some women to support
patriarchy, as the narrator talks about Ofglen a handmaid when she tells the story of herself being
raped, all the aunts said that it was her fault not the man s fault But whose fault was it? Aunt
Helena says, holding up one plumping finger. Her fault, her fault, her fault, we chant in unison
(Atwood, 72). Also, the Gilead republic created spies among the women in the system to gather
information for the system and capture anyone who breaks the rules secretly. The narrator talks

The Global Positioning System (Gps)
Introduction:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite based navigation system made up of a
network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally
intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for
civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There
are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
The GPS is made up of three parts: satellites orbiting the Earth; control and monitoring stations on
Earth; and the GPS receivers owned by users. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that are
picked up and identified by GPS receivers. Each GPS receiver then provides three dimensional ...

Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the
time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now,
with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user s
position and display it on the unit s electronic map. Figure: Working module.
A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position
(latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can
determine the user s 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user s position has been
determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip
distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.
When people talk about a GPS, they usually mean a GPS receiver. The Global Positioning System
(GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in
case one fails). The U.S. military developed and implemented this satellite network as a military
navigation system, but soon opened it up to everybody else. Figure: NAVSTAR GPS satellite
Each of these 3,000 to 4,000 pound solar powered satellites circles the globe at about 12,000 miles
(19,300 km), making two complete rotations every day. The orbits are arranged so that at

After finishing my BSc, I decided to broaden my knowledge and prospects by doing an MSc Environmental Health with the University of Derby Online Learning. • 5. African American Racism Since African Americans came into America they have been looked at as unequal. From 1619 1865 Whites controlled African Americans in slavery. Within slavery, African Americans were overworked, abused, and sold. Even when slavery ended it was not the end of discrimination. African Americans dealt with Jim Crow laws with which were state and local laws in the United States enacted between 1876 and 1965. As society becomes codependent on the technology that has made life that easier, exposure to marketing techniques and other social cues has increased and with that increase so has the negative perception of body image increased. It is because of this growing tendency of humans to develop subconscious ideas of the perfect body that this paper looks to answer the question of whether American media is portraying these unhealthy images of a perfect body or perfect humanto society. This causes several negative tendencies from low self esteem to an array of mental eating disorders due to the dissatisfaction with one s own body. These details will be discussed in the following parts by providing a critical analysis of the studies on managerial work. For instance, Mintzberg (1973) claims that the Fayol s management model has nothing in common with the reality of managerial work. Thus, relying on own observation of five senior managers, he concludes that managers would get some responsibilities and behaviours that will need to be adhered to with the type of management they are doing or for the type of organisation that they are working for, (Mintzberg, 1971; Fells, 2000). However, the main point of debates is the fact that the classical management theory outlined only general principles and provided a framework of what is the nature of managerial work. Fayol s work is also regarded as being one of the first to be written down about manager s roles based on observation research method. So as he was the first there is always a chance that he could be wrong, or this could be because times change, and this is apparent when trying to compare the classical approach to Mintzberg s systems approach. Through this statement, Socrates argument perfectly encapsulates the state that an unexamined society exists in one that values greatness over goodness. Water Pollution In South Africa Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015) The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river banks (or any other natural water source) because they use the water directly from the river without sufficiently purifying it or without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after exposure is limited. This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is otherwise preventable. Puppy mills are commercial breeding facilities that mass produce dogs for sale through pet stores, or directly to consumers through classifies ads or the internet. In most states, a breeding kennel can legally keep dozens, even hundreds, of dogs in cages for their entire lives, as longs as the dogs are given the basics of food, water, and shelter. The federal Animal Welfare Act passed in 1966, requires breeders who have more than three breeding female dogs and sell puppies to pet stores or puppy brokers to be licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In most cases, the standards that breeders are required to meet by law are extremely minimal. In puppy mills, female dogs are bred about twice a year until they can no longer produce puppies. Physicists had observed until the Higgs discovery, 16 of these particles. The crowd was already beginning to desperate for a 17th particle that would send the model in new and wild directions (supposedly). The Higgs mechanism is thought to be responsible for this, now that the existence of the particle is a fact: if we recognize the existence of the Higgs field, the W and Z bosons mix with this field, acquiring mass, explaining the reason of why the W and Z bosons have mass. This unifies as well the electromagnetic and weak forces into the electroweak force. [4] An interesting side effect, much less important than the discoveries, indeed, but with enough importance for itself, is the validation of the large amounts of effort and money invested in the equipment like the LHC. This flattens the road for the investment in the next generation of scientific machinery to keep researching. After analyzing the facts, this money is going to be very needed in the near future. It has been theorized that dark energy is the bulk of the energy of the universe, and the dark matter and energy existence is neither explained by the Standard Model. This model canВґt explain gravity or the neutrino mass. Nowadays, scientific community knows that the Standard Model is an approximation of another theory, more comprehensive and able to explain the Higgs mass with a most natural approach. The reason is that the measured mass of the Higgs is about 100 million billion times smaller than the value suggested by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Refugees In Ann Coulter s Essay Dread, terror, and fear, creeping through the walls, continues to corrupt American morals, minute by minute. With the onslaught of the Paris attacks, the question of whether or not America should accept more refugees now governs over American politics, originally a question that does not need questioning. Recently, Ann Coulter, an extreme conservative, posted an article named Importing Terrorism and Other American Values regarding America s vetting process and America s obligation towards refugees. Within her article, she ventures to devalue the vetting process and denounce refugees and immigrants alike as crimecarriers. Although her argument appears both logical and reasonable superficially, Coulter not only fails to cite her sources, but also demonstrates consistent mastery of logical fallacies, misuse of evidence, and shallow knowledge regarding immigrant and crime statistics. Coulter begins her article quoting President Obama, who referred to the rejection of refugees as, a betrayal of our [American] values (cite1). She raises concerns over the lack of protection for American citizens stating, Contrary to Obama s laughable reference to the universal values that all of humanity share, most of the world does not... This cheap shot by Coulter can not go ignored, and the public must not consider her article as relevant or true. Ahasuerus Political Satire While most of us steadily pay attention to Hadassah the young Jewish girl who would later become Queen Esther of Persia and would be instrumental in saving her people from total annihilation, I would like to build the focus on the powerful and narcissistic Ahasuerus thought to be based on the Persian King Xerxes of Persia, whom Leonidas fought with the famous 300. In my assessment, was a political satire. Ahasuerus presents a singular mixture of pride and weakness. First, Ahasuerus, known to be an impulsive and headstrong man, governed the empire by whim rather than by wisdom. His pride drove him to display the most hyperbolic pomp in order to dazzle the great men and the people of his empire. He tried to show off his Queen Vashti to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Cortes and Bernal Diaz s Motives for Writing Their... Q: What were Cortes and Bernal Diaz s motives for writing their accounts of the conquest? How did these motives color their narratives of the conquest? Record keeping has been around since the beginning of time. Even before humans existed, the planet earth keeps detailed records of itself in rocks, trees, and ice. Writing of events has been very important in the process of capturing, storing, and sharing information. Writing also allows the document to be sent off to a far off land without the story being sent through multiple story tellers, losing and gaining valuable details making it something of a myth. People write differently depending on the recipient and what their motives are. As we look at the writings of Hernan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diaz was proud of what he and his fellow conquistadors had accomplished. By writing about his accounts of the conquest he hoped to receive some recognition and reward from Spain. The possibility of power, and economical growth motivated these writings. But it was not all about money for him. He was a hard working man who wanted everyone to know his and his fellow conquistadors true achievements. After he finished the project, he learned that others had published before his. Chronicles were published by accomplished writers who had not seen the events first hand, and according to Diaz, contained many errors about what had actually happened ( Shwartz 18). Also in these publications, the credit was given to captains and people like Cortes, and little or no credit was given to soldiers who did the grunt work. This publication motivated Diaz to write his second book, which he called The True history of the Conquest of New Spain . He wrote this book in opposition of the publications which he thought to be incorrect. He again hoped his accomplishments would be seen by those in power and reward him. Because of the time between the events and his writing, many doubted the validity and accuracy of its content. Diaz assured everyone that he was able to retain the memories of the battles ... • 32. Age Norms Within The Age Age represents the length and duration of someone s life however; age also comes with an individuals experience and maturity throughout his lifespan. Age norms are considered to be what society believes an individual should act due to their own age. For example, having a job as bus boy at a restaurant would fall under the category of age norms because typically teens are the ones who occupy these kinds of jobs. As opposed to being older, the agenorms appropriate for a waiter is someone who is a young adult or older. The difference in age norms in these two jobs is being a waiter justifies you being an adult in comparison to being a bus boy, which people of younger age usually occupy. Acting your own age signifies the maturity one has. Although from time to time, we find ourselves not acting our age in social situations. For example, the way I behave myself with my friends totally differs from the way I behave with my parents. When I am with my parents I behave in a more formal matter on the other hand, when I hang out with my friends the level of maturity and formality drops enormously. When I am with my friends I feel that I don t need to act my age because I am comfortable and let loose easier then if I am with my parents. A social situation in where I typically don t act my age in is at concerts. In reality, concerts are age appropriate for everyone but it s the way I react to the music and how I let loose that affects my level of maturity to act my age. When, I ... • 33. Summary Of The LA Riots As a result of a detestable court decision and the visceral televised imagery of the beaten Rodney King, police brutality became recognized as a ceaseless injustice oppressing black communities. These events managed to spur a conversation most relevant today but one that many continue to disregard. The LA Riots of 1992 still stands as one of if not the most critical event that tapped into the way we view systematic racism by sparking deep rooted dialogue about the intermingling of race , economics and injustice in America for African Americans. When looking back at the riots 25 years later, society has often received the needless white perspective and the necessary African Americanvoice. However, many forget how many Korean Americans were affected by these events. At the time, black and Korean communities were at odds with one another without understanding each other s shared struggles as a result of the gradual segregation between wealthy white communities and impoverished minority enclaves. With the winner of the 2017 Sundance audience NEXT Award Gook, director, writer and actor Justin Chon remembers the 1992 LA Riots with the rare Korean Americanperspective, one that reveals itself as a poignant picture of race and friendship. • 34. ##hol s Meaning Of Barbiturach, 1962 By Andy Warhol Andy Warhol s work, Marilyn Diptych, 1962 is a depiction of an image of Marilyn Monroe who was a famous actress as well as a sex symbol but had a dark ending, dying of barbiturate overdose. In this work, Warhol captures both the life and tragic death of the superstar by recreating a publicity photo of her. In the painting, the actress s face is portrayed fifty times, twenty five times in color on the right and the same number of times in black and white on the left. One way to understand how this specific work should be interpreted is by examining it as an expressionist theorist. To experience this work properly I will act as an expressionist theorist and make sure to recognize my feelings transmitted as I interpret the work, be aware of how it expresses emotion, and grasp the uniqueness of the work. As an expressionist theorist, I recognize that the use of color can express the artist s emotion. Warhol used a warm color mix of bright yellow, orange, and turquoise on the right section and a dull color mix of black and white tints on the left. By using mixed media that represents a slow fade of the photos towards the end, Warhol captures life s transition from the bright and youthful days when one is full of energy to the tragic halt caused by death, which is also signified by the dull colors. Here, the artist provides a form of experience of life and death that the viewer can relate to. The use of acrylic on canvas and screen painting shows a transition in life from the ... GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS. Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user s position and display it on the unit s electronic map. Figure: Working module. A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position (latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can determine the user s 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user s position has been determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.
