Tier 1 Vocabulary
Vocabulary is the knowledge of words that able us to communicate with others orally,
or in writing, and it is acquired through listening or reading. A learning experience of
vocabulary, that is called indirect, is obtained when children engage in daily
conversation with family and friends, through read aloud by adults, or through own
reading. Instead, the learning experience of vocabulary, gained through teacher word
instruction, it s called direct.
Importance to the Reading Process As children learn new vocabulary words while
learning to read, they understand and make connection with the sounding of the
letters already acquired, to the word they see in print. Even though children learn the
vocabulary meanings, usually through indirect experiences, ... Show more content on

Summary Of Tuesdays With Morrie By Mitch Albom
Funerals have been a long running tradition in many cultures and societies after a
loved one has passed. In the book Tuesdays with Morrie , by Mitch Albom, the
main character, Morrie, chose to have a living funeral after receiving the news that
he had ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig s disease, is a
nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts a lot of physical functions
finally proceeding to death. A living funeralis held before the person has passed, so
the person who is soon to pass can hear all the wonderful things that their friends and
familyhave to say before they pass. Living funerals aren t practiced as much as the
classic funeral because the views on a living funeral are not anywhere near as
popular. Living funerals for most can create a sort of awkward and emotionally
degrading experience. Then again, I feel like seeing a loved one in their final
moments is a very hard experience. Having a living funeral can raise lots of
questions as to why someone would elect to have one instead of having a regular
funeral. Morrie made the correct decision to have a living funeral and the main
idea of a living funeral should be just as accepted as a regular one. The idea behind
a living funeral is to accept the fact that death is approaching. After someone can
accept that fact then the idea of having a living funeral comes into play. Wondering
about what others think about your before you pass is a normal thing. Not many

Core Competencies That The National Organization Of

There are nine core competencies that the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner
Faculties (NONPF) has adopted in which the nurse practitioner student s education is
based on: scientific foundation, leadership, quality, practice inquiry, technology and
information literacy, policy, health delivery system, ethics, and independent practice
competencies. This writer will describe and summarize the competencies as they
relate to the nurse practitioners practice. After extensive research by this writer, she
was able to conduct a thorough interview with a Certified Nurse Practitioner(CNP).
This writer has learned how the working CNP utilizes the competencies in her
practice as a Neonatal Certified Nurse Practitioner.
Description of the 9 NONPF NP Core Competencies
The NONPF NP Core Competencies were established for the NP students to obtain
a sound set of competencies that every NP student must have in order to practice
independently (NONPF, 2015). They will have the skill and knowledge to practice
by oneself. The competencies include the Scientific Foundation Competencies. These
competencies will guide the student to conduct research and have evidence to back
their findings. The NP will be able to critically analyze data and improve the practice
by developing their own approach (NONPF, 2015).
The Leadership Competency will help the NP institute change and help others
initiate change as well (NONPF, 2015). The NP will be aware of the cost and quality

What Is The Separation Of A Mixture Of Multi-Functional...
The Photopolymerization of a mixture of multi functional monomers or oligomers
that polymerize by different mechanisms leads to the build up of two
interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN). An obvious requirement is that the two
monomers must be fully compatible, and their polymers as well, in order to avoid
segregation and the formation of heterophasic materials. The major advantages of
these UV curable hybrid systems lie in their superior combination of properties
which can be tailor made for a given application by adjusting the proportions of the
two components. The IPN formed will exhibit the main features of the two polymer
networks, for instance the toughness and scratch resistance of UV cured acrylate
polymers and the elastomeric character of the cross linked polyurethane vinyl ether,

Improvement of the mechanical properties of single lap joints made of fluorinated
rubbers was obtained using a UV curable fluorinated resin and modifying the
chemical structure of the elastomers.13 OH groups and allylic groups introduced in
the FPUs reacted with the radicals formed in the resin under irradiation. Covalent
bonds between the elastomers and the resin were then created which increased the
adhesion strength. The concept of radiation curable PSAs can be simply described as
a rapid photoinitiated cross linking producing a viscoelastic material where the
properties of tack peel strength and shear resistance are predetermined. It is this
tackiness that causes the adhesive to stick instantly when pressed against a
substrate. Depending on the peel strength, PSA tapes are considered as temporary
for values below 350 N/m, or permanent for peel strengths above this value. A
strapping tape, which is made from a strong glass fibre reinforced film, uses a high
strength adhesive, while carton sealing tape must be quick grabbing to a paperbound

Fear Of Speaking In Public Essay
God, that all powerful Creator of nature and Architect of the world, has impressed
man with no character so proper to distinguish him from other animals, as by the
faculty of speech. Quintilian (DeCaro)
Public speaking is not only an art, but it s an art that has been learned with the help of
practice and philosophy throughout history. Greek philosopher Aristotle discovered
that in order to assemble the citizens into conformity, one must persuade the people,
which is what he called rhetoric.( DeCaro) Public speaking is described as a
sustained formal presentation by a speaker to an audience (Verderber, Sellnow.
pg.3). Although the fear of speaking in public can be very powerful, the ability to
speak in public is very important to success. The fear of speaking is a common
entity many people go through, because speaking in front of a large audience is still
practiced for the reasons of informing, persuading and entertaining the people.
Throughout history public speaking has integrated people and caused great change,
in both a positive and undesirable way.
There are three elements in every great speech which is content, structure, and
delivery. Speakers such as Martin Luther King and his I have a dream speech and
President Nixon have been stated to have mastered the art of public speaking which
involves these key points. I had the opportunity to critique two speakers on their
ability to speak in public as well as on the basis of content, structure, and delivery.
Rodeo Is The Way Of Life
We all ride for the same purpose, to win, but its those that ride with their heart and
soul and leave everything in the arena that truly win in the end, no matter the
outcome of the final placing. Its not the person on the horse s back, or the cowboy
on a bodacious bull, that wins. It s the horse and the bull themselves that are the
champions. There are misconceptions when it comes to the sport of rodeo. Despite
what PETA and animal activists think, rodeo is the way of life for some people
and nothing can change that. We take pride in our animals, the livestock we use,
and wouldn t dream on attentionally mistreating these wonderful creatures. People
who deliberately chose to plan their recreation around the same animals they spend
long hours working with developed rodeo. Rodeo was designed with thorough
knowledge and respect of the animal s capabilities and limitations. Who would
know a horses or bulls capability better than someone that works with them
everyday? We wouldn t use or ride an animal that couldn t perform the task needed
to get the job done. These animals were built for work. They were not put on this
earth to stand in a field and become lawn ornaments. Most rodeo contestants have a
great deal of respect and love for these animals they work with and it s a huge insult
to those people who say they are recklessly endangering the lives of these animals.
PETA has been pretty lose with their accusations of physical abuse to rodeo animals

How Did Rome Lead To The Creation Of Rome
During the later days of the Republic, the Romans expanded their interests far
beyond their homeland. Destruction of Carthage in 146 BC lead to the creation of
provincia of Africa and in 125 118 BC, conquest of southern Gaul created province
of Gallia Transalpina. Julius Caesar defeated the Gaul and in 51 BC rest of the Gaul
maims was given the status of a Roman province. Roman Empirefrther expanded with
the creation of three Spanish provinces: Hispania Baetica (smith central Spain),
Lusitania and Hispania Tarraconensis (the rest of Spain), in 19 BC. At its peak,
following the Battle of Actium, Octavian had about 60 legions under his command.

Analysis Of The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz, And

In a capitalistically inclined economy, the influences of wealth and social esteem
are rooted deep within the ideologies of such a system. Value of an entity is
prescribed by these facets, those without wealth or esteem are belittled and
depreciated, while those that come to acquire said commodities are prioritized
above others in societal outlets. This is such that instills a drive within those
under the governance of a market economy, the desire for immense affluence, as
well as incontestable social influence. Duddy Kravitz in The Apprenticeship of
Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler, and Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman by
Arthur Miller thoroughly exemplify this drive for excess wealth and power. When
analyzing the characters of Duddy Kravitz and Willy Loman, it is made distinctly
evident that Duddy Kravitz is successful to a greater degree, when compared to
Willy Loman, in achieving the generic and superficial capitalistic views of success.
This discrepancy between the two characters is emphasized through Duddy Kravitz
rigorous climb to social and financial influence. It can be observed, that both Willy
Loman and Duddy Kravitz share an inner drive to acquire monetary wealth. Although
this drive is instilled within them by the society they respectively live in, they
experience diverging degrees of superficial success due to their ability, or lack there
of, to adapt to the ruthless and competitive nature of a capitalistic society. It becomes
evident that due to his
Social Contract Theory Essay
Ethical Theory: Social Contract Theory The Social Contract Theory is the ethical
theory concerning the relationship between the citizen and the government. The chief
architects of the theory include Enlightenment thinkers and political theorists,
Thomas Hobbes and John Locke whose theories were foundational in the Founding
Fathers establishment of the United States. The theory chiefly focuses on the need
for some type of regulating body over the affairs of mankind due to the nature of
unregulated human behavior. It also focuses on and explains a different means by
which the legitimacy of the State is gained, a theory that differed from monarchical
legitimacy and is based on a contractual agreement. Hobbes theory of... Show more

The practical application of this debate comes in the form of social welfare policy
and politics and class disparity. Those who are in favor of social welfare policies
argue from the position that this is a basic right that should be given and guaranteed
when it cannot be achieved without assistance. Those who would argue against
economic justice and basic needs being met are those that would take an
individualistic approach. Throughout history, there have always been
disproportionate concentrations of resources among people. Objectively, with a
smaller amount of people controlling the majority of the resources which creates a
large scarcity or resource insecurity in a much larger swathe of the population. The
argument against social welfare policy and supporting those takes the stance that
people should not be given things when they have the capability to achieve those
things. This argument is a microcosmic argument in that it does not examine the
systems in which these people prepare and live. The stance against welfare policy
claims that it will promote laziness and allows people to fail if they do not have the
internal drive to achieve their needs, if they will not work for those needs then they
must not be actual needs. The other aspect of this argument

Argument Essay Draft 2
To Hit or Not to Hit In 1973, Major League Baseball accepted Rule 5.11, also
known as the Designated Hitter (DH) rule. This rule allows a player, who does not
play a defensive position, to hit in place of the pitcher. The rule was created
because pitchers, most of whom are notoriously bad hitters, were basically a free out
for the opposing team. However, for some ungodly reason, the new DH rule was
only established in one of the two leagues in the MLB. As a result, the American
League, the league using the DH rule, has consistently produced higher batting
averages since 1973 than the National League. When two teams from different
leagues play each other, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By expanding the DH rule to the National League, the MLB could create and extend
more careers for players just like Martinez. Many people against the designated hitter
believe having a DH ruins the integrity of the game. They think that teams should
need to strategize by having pitchers bunt runners to the next base or force
managers to make the tough decision of when to substitute a hitter for the pitcher.
People opposed to the DH rule believe it is wrong to change the rules because this
game has been played the same way for more than 100 years. This is both a closed
minded and ancient way of thinking. Rules are meant to evolve and change over
time to adjust to the times. The days of sacrificing at bats to bunt runners over are
over. The sacrifice bunt has been virtually destroyed by new statistics and metrics
that show how inefficient it is. The game is in need of more offense and
expanding the DH rule to both leagues solves that problem and is a necessary
evolvement to the sport. Over the past few years, pitching has been dominant and
the officials in the MLB offices have looked for new ways to increase offensive
production. For the 2017 season, the MLB has attempted to fix this problem by
implementing a new type of baseball with a harder exterior and smaller laces which
increase the distance and reduce drag (also increasing distance) of batted balls. As a
result, home run totals across the league have increased

Hedda Gabler Research Paper
Freedom, over oneself or from others, is an important theme in Ibsen s Hedda
Gabler. Even in her greatest act of rebellion, suicide, Hedda Gabler is unable to
find freedom. Her name means strife, struggle, and refuge from battle. Combined
with her last name, Gabler, Hedda s name is translated to mean the strife of an
individual. From the beginning, she is doomed to a life of isolation and
confinement . Although others are originally the cause of Hedda s imprisonment,
eventually this entrapment evolves into personal incarceration because others
have shaped her entire life around public image. Thus, her only view of the world
is one in which social perception is priority. Because of her upbringing, Hedda sees
the world through lenses of social duty and image, and therefore associates the two
with confinement. In struggling to break free of her captivity, she sees her only out
as power over others people own people, and if one is owned the only way to free
oneself is to own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since discovering that Brack supposedly has the freedom, or power, that she
cannot seem to have, Hedda falls into a downward spiral, coming to the conclusion
that she will never claw her way out of the confinement in which she finds herself
(need proof or is this already established?). Hedda finally realizes once and for all
that she will never be free as long as Brack has power over her and can tell others
that it was with Hedda s pistol that LГёvborg shot himself. With this crippling
knowledge, Hedda realizes that freedom is not possible for her and Ibsen reveals
to the reader that it is actually her entire definition of freedom that is flawed.
Hedda dies in the same way as she lived, in circumstances similar to her childhood:
her death is triggered by suffocation wrought by others. In much the same way that
he controlled her early life, in an act of cruel irony even General Gabler continues to
be the catalyst for her death: it is his pistols with which she shoots herself

Glenwood Springs The History of the Rocky Mountain Resort written by Jim
Nelson is a great portal to view the small hot springs town and its milestones
throughout the years. Nelson starts all his 21 chapters with a range of years. For
example, chapter 21 has the gap of what happened in Glenwood Springs from 1991 to
2000. Starting with chapter one, the first inhabitants, dinosaurs both land and sea
dwelling are predominant. Nelson explains that the ocean creatures are more famous,

the great rock formations that are part of today s landscape. In the next chapters, two
through five, Ute people are introduced as the first human tenants of Colorado. As

He includes all the wonderful activities, people, and substances it gave and
continues to give Colorado. This includes the healing water as a tourist attraction,
world class engineering techniques and architects, and drawing famous people to
see Colorado, from presidents to criminals. Moreover, the nature of his writing is
easy to understand and the vocabulary is not too advanced. Nelson makes it easy to
read two to three chapters at a time without being overwhelmed but still taking
away information. However, there are some weaknesses within this nonfiction
piece. The way his chapters only describe the certain years at a time makes it hard
to get into the topic he wants to address, you cannot really prepare yourself for
what you are about to read. Speaking of topics, Nelson brings up a lot of interesting
facts, yet we hear about them three to four times throughout the book. This happens
because of the chapters, one event may have started in the 1800 s and wasn t
complete until the mid 1950 s, and whenever it comes up in the middle, he must
introduce it all over again. For instance, if someone just picked up the book and

because the people of Massachusetts were very rebellious and have had many

John Bateman, a British soldier who was captured by the colonists said that he
heard a command to fire given to the Regulars, and that none of the colonists fired
at the Regulars(3). This completely goes against the British evidence which clearly
says that they did not give the command to fire and were giving orders to not fire.
Also, since he was captured by the colonists, he obviously wants to say something
that pleases them since they are his audience. That makes his evidence unreliable
since he could have made that up to please the colonists who had captured him. Next
up is Sylvanus Wood who was a commonwealth of Massachusetts and gave a sworn

The Total Contribution Cost Ratio
A.Breakeven point (BEP) is where the total contribution cost equals to fixed cost. To
calculate this, you do fixed cost divided by the contribution per unit. To calculate the
contribution per unit you do the selling price minus the variable costs.

Critical Thinking Critical Literacy
Critical Thinking and Critical Literacy Many people want a way out of their skin
and a way into a new look. The wants of people worldwide varrie and always will

worldwide who worry about their complexion and how other people think of them,
there are companies worldwide who have a profit to gain. No matter what our make

because I am the same way. I believe there will always be room for improvement.
This is something in the human genes that I believe will never change. On BMW s

My dad actually drives a BMW car. I think, from what I ve seen, they are very nice
and fun to drive. However, the price to replace a tail light is almost six hundred
dollars. They have to remove the entire rear tire to fix a tail light. In my opinion,
that s just poor engineering. I need to know what my other options might be,
obviously BMW isn t the only car dealership or car website out in the world, that s
open to review. I reviewed some different car dealerships, mainly I did an analysis
of Mercedes, with a little bit of research I found that there are flaws in other
vehicles as well, not just with BMW. When looking up Mercedes problems, the
same as I did with BMW, I found multiple people with issues, just like with BMW.
One person stated that he had an issue with his water pump on his Mercedes car.
The same person also said that he was already on his third water pump on his car.
More research showed that BMW stacked up pretty well against the

think a company with the following products would use. For each product take up a
company of your choice and justify the use of particular forecastingmethod for that

Answer: Forecasting is based on a number of assumptions:
1. The past will repeat itself. 2. As the forecast horizon shortens, forecast accuracy
increases. 3. Forecasting in the aggregate is more accurate than forecasting individual
items. 4. Forecasts are seldom accurate.

Moving average will not give an accurate prediction for other less established
products, as it gives recent data more importance. A product like Colgate tooth paste
which has established itself over the years can afford to adopt Moving Average

considerable period. However, for more important strategic decisions the suggested
method is Exponential Smoothing.| Laptop| Dell| Comparison of the performance of

used to generate new product forecasts when a similar product exists. Electronics

Qualitative Methods like market research, Delphi technique etc. and causal method

Xbox 4 Vs Xbox One The Showdown
PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One the Showdown Shigeru once said, The Obvious
objective of video games is to entertain people by surprising them with new
experiences. Since, the early 1990 s, there has only been two heavy weight
gaming consoles: PlayStation and Xbox. Over the years, they both have
tremendously evolved into impressive gaming consoles. A gaming console is a
device which outputs a video image onto a screen. The term gaming console is
used to distinguish them from arcade machines and computers. Currently, the
latest models are the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. Even though, the PS4
and Xbox One are both excellent gaming consoles. They do have a few differences
such as price, exclusive games, and exterior/interior design. When buying a
gaming consoles, be prepared to spend a lump sum of cash. The PS4 used to cost
400 dollars since being first released back on November 14, 2013, but recently it
has dropped down to 350 dollars. The Xbox One price has fluctuated since first
being released on November 22, 2013. When it first launched in the United States,
the original price was 100 dollars more than that of the PS4 s original price of 400
dollars. In todays society, people or perhaps only me, tend to buy the cheaper
options of things. So of course, people brought the PS4 over the Xbox One.
Microsoft must have thought their gaming console was far superior than Sony s
gaming console so they made it cost more. This action by Microsoft weakened the
Xbox One sales. In
College Dropout Analysis
Graduation is right around the corner. Sometimes, it is hard to stay motivated. But,
picturing that degree in the mail and the satisfaction that I finally graduated college
is a big factor. The first thing to aid in this goal is to remember than college is not
like high school. College should be treated just like a full time job. It requires more
work, focus, and motivation. Collegeis an option, it is a passion, and it is life. It has
to be planned just right, so that a person can graduate on time.
That being said, being a student who hangs around college hoping to get adjusted
without having a set plan, will more than likely end up dropping out and wasting
tons of money and resources. The financial consequences of dropping out can be
dire. College is VERY expensive. Every year a person is in college, it is about
twenty five percent more expensive than the previous year. Math is important.
Attitude is everything. For every goal, there are multiple goals. The main goal
should be to graduate on time. This main goal will lead to proper study habits, more
successful course rights, overall higher GPA, and overall healthy college lifestyle.
Confidence in academics is important. The more focused, the more determined to

Where parties have meaningfully collaborated on a work, it is hard to imagine that
such work is unaccompanied by the requisite intent. Facepunch argues that it never
intended to enter into joint ownership with Glynn. Both sides agree, however, that
Glynn was an independent contractor for Facepunch and never signed any documents
altering his copyright interest in any game he produced. Moreover, Glynn alleges that
he wrote roughly 75% of RUST s code, making him the dominant author. Glynn s

12 Angry Men Sociological Analysis
The film 12 angry men I chose to write about provides multiple points that can be
compared to things we have learned in sociology which we can take from this
movie. This relatable, reality based film, features a group of jurors who have to make
a choice over whether or not someone is guilty or innocent of an accused murder. At
first, eleven of the twelve jurors vote guilty. Over time, through heated discussions,
the jurors are swayed to the decision of not guilty(Rosen, 2016). Upon research, this
film highlights sociology ideas in areas such as conformity, social inequality, ingroup
and outgroup, groupthink among other examples. Given the circumstance of the
situation the juryis in I would say conformity is a huge factor. Judging other s
interpretations of this movie I would say often leads to conformity due to the
influences some of the characters have and the points they make.Conformity is the
act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to group norms. The tendency to
conform occurs in small groups and in society as a whole, and may result from subtle
unconscious influences or direct and overt social pressure.(Boundless.2015) My...

Scope Justification The Faculty of the Social Sciences is one of the biggest
faculties on the campus, which means that there are a lot of students in this faculty
each year. They do not have sufficient classrooms for the students so therefore, the
faculty has to have some of their classes in Engineering and other faculties around
campus which is not right. The head of the Faculty placed a request for a new wing
which has finally been approved. Assumptions It is assumed that a feasibility study
was done. All approvals have been obtained from relevant university and government
authorities. Consultations have been done with all stakeholders. Objectives The
objectives of the new wing for the Faculty of Social Sciences for UWI, St. Augustine
are as follows: To increase the welfare of FSS students who study in the University of
the West Indies. To improve the safety of students by providing upgraded
accommodations. This project will address Occupational Safety and Health

Theu.s. P. Taylor s Ten Days That Shook The World
99 years has passed since the 1917 October Revolution a time of chaos and
uncertainty, an event that would shape the world for decades to come. In the midst of
the fog of revolution , John Reed s Ten Days That Shook the World navigates through
this tumultuous time. Reed was an American journalist and socialist, coming to
Russia on an assignment from a socialist magazine, The Masses he was a man deeply
involved with the socialist movement, and thus, with the revolution. As the historian
A. J. P. Taylor puts it, This was his revolution, not an obscure event in a foreign
country. Thus, his first hand account, written in 1919, provides a slice of intensified
history , attempting to capture the spirit of the revolution, rather than providing a dry
text on it sometimes forsaking historical accuracy, but genuinely attempting to be a
fair account, despite its bias.
The book starts off towards the end of September 1917, with tensions already high.
Though the February Revolution had signified a new change in Russia, the
provisional government continued to fight in the Great War. The moderate socialists
in power, led by Alexander Kerensky, were opposed by the radical Bolsheviks, led by
Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky. This is where Reed comes in the picture. Only
weeks earlier, General Kornilov had marched on Petrograd. The populace was already
discontent, but the Kornilov affair had revitalised support for the Bolsheviks. This
culminates in the October Revolution the
Historical And Medical Background Of Agnosia
Historical and Medical Background of Agnosia
Agnosia is a rare neurological disorder that affects one s capability to recognize
people or objects based on the affected sense (Coslett, 2007; National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2014). There are three observed types of agnosia:
Visual, Auditory, and Tactile (Coslett, 2007; Marotta Behrmann 2002). Visual agnosia
is the most common type because the brain devotes the most energy and resources to
visual processing than processing of any of the other senses (Coslett, 2007). Since it
is the most common, and therefore has the most research available, visual agnosia
will be the primary focus of this paper.
Sigmund Freud coined the term agnosia which means without knowledge and
although the term stands today, it is now known that those with agnosia actually have
knowledge of what they are seeing but do not have the ability to connect perception
to knowledge. As Marotta and Behrmann observed in two case studies, those with
visual agnosia are able to identify and recognize object through sound, touch or a
description of function or appearance (Marotta Behrmann, 2002; Coslett, 2007),
proving that knowledge of the object is present.
Heinrich Lissauer, a German neurologist, divided visual agnosia into two
subcategories: apperceptive and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia is when a
perceptual representation cannot even be derived from vision, meaning everything
can be seen, the visual acuity and physical
Should People Be Allowed To Keep Animals In Captivity
Animals in Captivity
Everyday people go to zoos with intentions of having a good time without realizing
they are paying for animals to be held in captivity for the rest of their lives. In recent
discussion, the decision to keep animals in captivity is a very controversial topic.
Many people are towards the decision that zookeepers should keep the wild animals
captive for the entertainment of others, while on the contrary many are against it.
However nobody has done anything to get the animals out. The people who are
against setting them free believe that the animals are living a much better life than
they would outside and that they are better for keeping entertainment for the public
but what they do not see is what happens when the zoo is closed and how they are
treated outside of the public s eye, which is what the people who are against it tend
to see. Not only do animals not like being held in captivity but also it gives them

Many animals never see life outside of cages because they are taken in from when
they are babies and kept until they die. With zoos existing for hundreds of years
people have never noticed how wrong it is to keep animals in cages. Animals all
over the world are affected because they get taken away and never know what it is
really like to live in the wild. Zoos are not a perfect place to keep animals, more
animals are abused and hurt inside of zoos. One day a wallaby was suppose to be
getting taken care of by its zookeeper but the zookeeper was not paying attention
because the wallaby drowned in a bucket of water. In another case a spider monkey
had frost bite but was not treated soon enough so zookeepers were forced to
euthanize the spider monkey (Jouvenal). More accidents take place inside of zoos
than they would if animals were released to the wild. Everyday animals die in
captivity due to zookeepers that don t pay attention to the

Ismene In The Character Of Antigone
Is it better to be a dead hero or a forgotten bystander? In Antigone, one of Sophocles
three Theban plays, the actions of Antigone, one of Oedipus daughters, take center
stage. After the death of her brothers, Antigone defies both the decree by Creon, the
leader of Thebes, and wishes of her sister, Ismene, to bury her brother according to
Ancient Greek funeral rites. After being captured, Antigoneis sentenced to death and
ultimately hangs herself, as her fiancГ© and his mother both kill themselves in grief.
While the central conflict is the contrasting ideals of Creon s loyalty to his post and

Grace Throughout the Bible Essay
I will look at the lives of Moses, Haggai and Ester who with God s grace overcame
huge obstacles in their families, situations, and beliefs to further God s Kingdom in
amazing ways. In Philip Yancey s Book What s so Amazing About Grace? Yancey
says that grace, Contains the essence of the gospel as a drop of water can contain
the image of the sun. (Yancey, 12) This and Gods promise that his grace will never
leave us makes grace an incredible theme throughout the Bible. Grace is an incredible
thing that is defined in a variety of ways. In the book Learning About Grace from
the Woman of the Bible by Debbie Morris; Morris defines grace as the Influence or
Spirit of God operating in humans to regenerate or strengthen them. (Morris, 6) This

In The Butterfly Effect of Grace by Rex G. Russell the idea that grace is one of the
most important words in the Bible is widely discussed. Russell says that grace is the
single most important word to describe God s love for us. When God speaks to
Moses and fills him with his grace God is showing us how much he loves us. Russell
challenges his reader to live a life overflowing with grace. Much like how Moses
lived his life. In such a way that the people around him couldn t help but take notice
that Moses was chosen by God and with his grace was able to do work for his
kingdom.
Ester overcomes her place as a woman and saves the Hebrews. In the book Flawed
Families of the Bible by David Diana Garland we see the connections between
family struggles and the grace that surfaces within. Yet it is in these broken places
that we catch glimpses of God s grace and healing, of God silently reaching in to
touch the wound, and broken people stepping up to do what is right. (Garland, 14)
God s grace works in people and situations that have imperfections. Esther came
from a small village, was orphaned as a child, was raised by her cousin Mordecai and
was Jewish. She had a broken family and the deck was stacked against her but she
had favor with God and was given not only his grace but also the grace of the king.
And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained

Water Essay
Water quality management in agricultural catchments, generally, appears to focus on
identifying and reducing nutrient losses from the root zone of intensive farming
activities. In recent years, reducing nutrient loss from root zone and minimizing the
impact on farming practices of freshwater bodies has taken centre stage in this
debate (Clothier et al., 2007). To fully understand management options of water this
study will explore the vicious cycle of how on the source, the mode of transportation

However, the amount of nitrate leached from the root is dependent on how it is
transported and transformed on the subsurface. According to Knowles (1982)
dentrification process of nitrates reduces/attenuate flow of nitrates from root zone to
water catchment (rivers and lakes). This finding were later supported by Rivett el.,
2008, where he argued that dentrification process minimizes nitrate influx from areas
of high concentration beneath the water table. This process is catalyst by chemical,
physical and biological feature. In addition nutrients and oxidation of carbon act as
catalyst to this process (Rivett et al., 2008). Research show that Current nitrogen

Three Guiding Principles, Axioms Or Postulates For My
Tax...
Five guiding principles, axioms or postulates for my tax practice. There are five
guiding principles that guide me in my career as an independent tax professional.
They are as follows:
1.Respect customers personal time by providing convenient service with no lines and
no waiting.
2.Adhere to the highest standards of ethics; follow the tax practitioner rules
established by the IRS.
3.Provide a clean, calm and safe environment in which to meet with customers.
4.Listen to the customer s fear and anxiety about his/her tax situation.
5.Provide quality service with a smile.
Current state of principles and values illustrated by professionals in the tax
preparation service industry The tax preparation industry services millions of
customers each tax season. Among the industry participants there are tax preparation
franchises and independent tax preparation firms. The values illustrated by a tax
professional; depends upon the individual or firm that is providing the service.
However, most customer complaints are against tax preparation franchises like HR
Block and Jackson Hewitt. Therefore, these complaints indicate that there is a lack of
principle and values within this industry as a whole. On the other hand; there are
other choices for taxpayers to receive the highest level of principles and values within
their service. For instance; most customer complaints involve long wait times for
service. Then, to add insult to injury; they further complain that after
Essay about Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman
Brown
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown captivates the reader through a
glimpse of the Puritan church. The story also shows the struggle of good versus evil
in the main character Goodman Brown. The role of the Puritan church is crucial in
shaping Goodman Brown s personality and helping the reader understand why he was
reluctant to continue his journey.
Puritanism, movement arising within the Church of England in the latter part of the
16th century that sought to purify or reform, that church and establish a middle
course between Roman Catholicism and the ideas of the Protestant reformers
(Puritanism 1). The term Puritanism was referred to as an insult that was attached by

Conversion was a rejection of the worldliness of society combined with a strict
adherence to Biblical principles.
Puritans believed that a strong faith in Jesus and active participation in the
sacraments could not alone hinder one s salvation. No one can choose salvation, for
it is the privilege of God alone (Campbell 1). The Puritan society centered around the
idea of covenants. The concept of the contract between God and a select few was
central to Puritan theology and social relationships (2). Campbell explains that the
Covenant of Works held that God promised Adam and his progeny eternal life if
they obeyed moral law. After Adam broke this covenant, God made a new Covenant
of Grace with Abraham (2). The Covenant of Grace requires active faith and, as such,
it softens the doctrine of predestination. Campbell further explains that, Although
God still chooses the elect, the relationship becomes one of contract in which
punishment for sins is a judicially proper response to disobedience (2).The Covenant
of Redemption goes hand and hand with the Covenant of Grace. It states that Christ
of his own free will chose to sacrifice his life for the common man. Then God was
committed to carrying out the Covenant of Grace.
The doctrine of predestination kept all Puritans constantly working to do good in
this life to be chosen for the next eternal life. God had already chosen who would be
in Heaven or Hell, and each
Waukegan s Superfund Sites
The Socio Economical and Environmental Revitalization of
Waukegan, its Lakefront Superfund Sites
Waukegan is a Suburb of 8 miles south of the Wisconsin boarder and north of
Chicago along the lakefront. Waukegan is the 9th largest city in Illinois with a
population of 88,826 people. It is the 5th largest city along Lake Michigan s west
shoreline. Waukegan has been known as the rustbelt of Lake Michigan. This is due to
its history of industry. Through the involvement of Local Federal Agencies,
Companies and the Community Waukegan has made strides in the last 30 years to
clean up 3 Superfund Sites, setting a stage for the city to Revitalize and become the

The area of greatest concern and threat is Illinois Beach State Park which boarders
the contamination site to the North. This is a concern as asbestos can cause cancer
if the fibers are inhaled. Asbestos is less dangerous in water supplies although the
site run off at one point was 3 times the EPA s limit. The EPA continues to monitor
and improve the site. After the main site contamination were remediated, secondary
excavation and capping projects have taken place over the years to continue to clean
the site for future re development as shown in the image below.
Yeoman Creek Landfill The Yeoman Creek Landfill is a 70 acre landfill comprised of
5 different parcels of land located along the Yeoman River and was in operation from
1959 1969. The 5 sites included are:
Yeoman Creek Landfill East (44 acres)
Yeoman Creek Landfill West (7.5 acres)
Edwards Field (10 acres)
North Rubloff (2.5 acres)
South Rubloff (2 acres)
In 1969 it was discovered that the site was leaching due to a lack of a bottom liner.
The landfill was leaching volatile organic compounds (VOC), polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCB) and explosive landfill gases (LFG). RD for the Yeoman site was
not initiated until 2001. The RA was completed for this site in 2005. The EPA
continues to monitor this site and does inspections every 5 years. The site continues
to fail these inspections due to the inability to continue the
The Trials Of The Nuremberg
Values Conflict Paper Nuremberg Trials
The Nuremberg Doctors Trial of 1946 is the preeminent case recognizing the
importance of medical ethics and human rights specifically about human research
subjects. The defendants in the trials include Nazi leadership, physicians, and
investigators prosecuted for conducting unethical and inhumane medical experiments
on civilians and prisoners of war resulting in extreme pain, suffering, permanent injury
and often death. The Nuremberg Code, borne of these trials, establishes ethical
guidelines for human experimentation to ensure the rights of subjects in medical
research. Herein, this writer will first identify and discuss ethical dilemmas presented
in the Nuremberg case followed by three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethical Standards
1.02 Self Determination
The second subsection of the NASW Code of Ethics is 1.02 Self Determination. This
standard highlights the clients right to be involved in the decision making process
regarding his/her treatment and care, to include refusing treatment. This standard also
speaks to the clients understanding that these rights may be limited by the social
worker ...when, in the social workers professional judgment, clients actions or
potential actions pose a serious, foreseeable, and imminent risk to themselves or
others (NASW website, 2017). Nazi scientists and physicians conducted torturous and
human experiments on prisoners of war held in concentration camps throughout
Germany. These involuntary experimental subjects were not involved in the decision
making process regarding their treatment and care and were, in fact, treated against
their will. Prisoners were forced to drink poisoned water and breathe noxious gases.
(Gambrill, 2004, p. 14). Doctors forcing individuals to participate in clinical trials
directly contradicts the ethical standard of self determination hence the application to
the Nuremberg case.
1.03 Informed Consent The third subsection of the NASW Code of Ethics is 1.03
Essay on A Letter Form Mom and Dad
Prompt: Imagine you are Aunt Pegg. After one week of looking after the children,
you write a letter to their parents in which you: * Give your impressions of the
children. * Give an account of your progress with them so far. * Tell your plans for
the next week.
Write your letter. Base it on what you have read in Passage A.
October 6, 2011
Dear Dad/Mom of the kids
I ve been looking after you children for a week so today I write this letter just to let
you know how we ve been doing, and tell you the plans that we will do for the next
week.
From the very first time that you asked me to take care of the kids while you go on
business, I m extremely excited because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to put them into militaristic manner, I use whistle to make orders: breakfast,
lunch, dinner, or just to call them. We have sugarless oat cereal for breakfast, the
kind of breakfast that we always hoped for when we were kids. They don t eat it.
They hate it. I don t let them dump the whole meal to the trash can, they must not
waste food like that, they are given extra chores to do if they keep whining without
eating!
On the second day, they seemed to miss you a lot. They don t talk much anymore,
they walk slowly, spiritless like little zombies. They behave better, they don t insult
each other, they re quiet while doing their tasks, and I m really pleased because of
that. They re uncommunicative as though they re in jail. They got better anyways,
but I m not satisfied yet, they still need lots more training to do.
On the third day of the progress, we did some educational lectures. I taught them
how to solve some arithmetic sums and add a little speed into it, I showed them
the way that our dad taught us when we were in sixth grade, I still remember it as it
was yesterday. I gave them Reading Improvement plus Practical Farmwork , which
is the weeds identification and eradication. They didn t focus so I had to pull out a
criteria, they can go inside the house once they can tell me the name of the weeds.
They re slow.
This is the thing that surprised me the most, they were about to run away from me, but

  • 3. Summary Of Tuesdays With Morrie By Mitch Albom Funerals have been a long running tradition in many cultures and societies after a loved one has passed. In the book Tuesdays with Morrie , by Mitch Albom, the main character, Morrie, chose to have a living funeral after receiving the news that he had ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig s disease, is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts a lot of physical functions finally proceeding to death. A living funeralis held before the person has passed, so the person who is soon to pass can hear all the wonderful things that their friends and familyhave to say before they pass. Living funerals aren t practiced as much as the classic funeral because the views on a living funeral are not anywhere near as popular. Living funerals for most can create a sort of awkward and emotionally degrading experience. Then again, I feel like seeing a loved one in their final moments is a very hard experience. Having a living funeral can raise lots of questions as to why someone would elect to have one instead of having a regular funeral. Morrie made the correct decision to have a living funeral and the main idea of a living funeral should be just as accepted as a regular one. The idea behind a living funeral is to accept the fact that death is approaching. After someone can accept that fact then the idea of having a living funeral comes into play. Wondering about what others think about your before you pass is a normal thing. Not many people have

There are nine core competencies that the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) has adopted in which the nurse practitioner student s education is based on: scientific foundation, leadership, quality, practice inquiry, technology and information literacy, policy, health delivery system, ethics, and independent practice competencies. This writer will describe and summarize the competencies as they relate to the nurse practitioners practice. After extensive research by this writer, she was able to conduct a thorough interview with a Certified Nurse Practitioner(CNP). This writer has learned how the working CNP utilizes the competencies in her practice as a Neonatal Certified Nurse Practitioner. Description of the 9 NONPF NP Core Competencies The NONPF NP Core Competencies were established for the NP students to obtain a sound set of competencies that every NP student must have in order to practice independently (NONPF, 2015). They will have the skill and knowledge to practice by oneself. The competencies include the Scientific Foundation Competencies. These competencies will guide the student to conduct research and have evidence to back their findings. The NP will be able to critically analyze data and improve the practice by developing their own approach (NONPF, 2015). The Leadership Competency will help the NP institute change and help others initiate change as well (NONPF, 2015). The NP will be aware of the cost and quality of
  • 5. What Is The Separation Of A Mixture Of Multi-Functional... The Photopolymerization of a mixture of multi functional monomers or oligomers that polymerize by different mechanisms leads to the build up of two interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN). An obvious requirement is that the two monomers must be fully compatible, and their polymers as well, in order to avoid segregation and the formation of heterophasic materials. The major advantages of these UV curable hybrid systems lie in their superior combination of properties which can be tailor made for a given application by adjusting the proportions of the two components. The IPN formed will exhibit the main features of the two polymer networks, for instance the toughness and scratch resistance of UV cured acrylate polymers and the elastomeric character of the cross linked polyurethane vinyl ether, with... Improvement of the mechanical properties of single lap joints made of fluorinated rubbers was obtained using a UV curable fluorinated resin and modifying the chemical structure of the elastomers.13 OH groups and allylic groups introduced in the FPUs reacted with the radicals formed in the resin under irradiation. Covalent bonds between the elastomers and the resin were then created which increased the adhesion strength. The concept of radiation curable PSAs can be simply described as a rapid photoinitiated cross linking producing a viscoelastic material where the properties of tack peel strength and shear resistance are predetermined. It is this tackiness that causes the adhesive to stick instantly when pressed against a substrate. Depending on the peel strength, PSA tapes are considered as temporary for values below 350 N/m, or permanent for peel strengths above this value. A strapping tape, which is made from a strong glass fibre reinforced film, uses a high strength adhesive, while carton sealing tape must be quick grabbing to a paperbound and resistant to

Fear Of Speaking In Public Essay God, that all powerful Creator of nature and Architect of the world, has impressed man with no character so proper to distinguish him from other animals, as by the faculty of speech. Quintilian (DeCaro) Public speaking is not only an art, but it s an art that has been learned with the help of practice and philosophy throughout history. Greek philosopher Aristotle discovered that in order to assemble the citizens into conformity, one must persuade the people, which is what he called rhetoric.( DeCaro) Public speaking is described as a sustained formal presentation by a speaker to an audience (Verderber, Sellnow. pg.3). Although the fear of speaking in public can be very powerful, the ability to speak in public is very important to success. The fear of speaking is a common entity many people go through, because speaking in front of a large audience is still practiced for the reasons of informing, persuading and entertaining the people. Throughout history public speaking has integrated people and caused great change, in both a positive and undesirable way. There are three elements in every great speech which is content, structure, and delivery. Speakers such as Martin Luther King and his I have a dream speech and President Nixon have been stated to have mastered the art of public speaking which involves these key points. I had the opportunity to critique two speakers on their ability to speak in public as well as on the basis of content, structure, and delivery.

Rodeo Is The Way Of Life We all ride for the same purpose, to win, but its those that ride with their heart and soul and leave everything in the arena that truly win in the end, no matter the outcome of the final placing. Its not the person on the horse s back, or the cowboy on a bodacious bull, that wins. It s the horse and the bull themselves that are the champions. There are misconceptions when it comes to the sport of rodeo. Despite what PETA and animal activists think, rodeo is the way of life for some people and nothing can change that. We take pride in our animals, the livestock we use, and wouldn t dream on attentionally mistreating these wonderful creatures. People who deliberately chose to plan their recreation around the same animals they spend long hours working with developed rodeo. Rodeo was designed with thorough knowledge and respect of the animal s capabilities and limitations. Who would know a horses or bulls capability better than someone that works with them everyday? We wouldn t use or ride an animal that couldn t perform the task needed to get the job done. These animals were built for work. They were not put on this earth to stand in a field and become lawn ornaments. Most rodeo contestants have a great deal of respect and love for these animals they work with and it s a huge insult to those people who say they are recklessly endangering the lives of these animals. PETA has been pretty lose with their accusations of physical abuse to rodeo animals and cite very rare

  • 10. Analysis Of The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz, And Willy... In a capitalistically inclined economy, the influences of wealth and social esteem are rooted deep within the ideologies of such a system. Value of an entity is prescribed by these facets, those without wealth or esteem are belittled and depreciated, while those that come to acquire said commodities are prioritized above others in societal outlets. This is such that instills a drive within those under the governance of a market economy, the desire for immense affluence, as well as incontestable social influence. Duddy Kravitz in The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler, and Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller thoroughly exemplify this drive for excess wealth and power. When analyzing the characters of Duddy Kravitz and Willy Loman, it is made distinctly evident that Duddy Kravitz is successful to a greater degree, when compared to Willy Loman, in achieving the generic and superficial capitalistic views of success. This discrepancy between the two characters is emphasized through Duddy Kravitz rigorous climb to social and financial influence. It can be observed, that both Willy Loman and Duddy Kravitz share an inner drive to acquire monetary wealth. Although this drive is instilled within them by the society they respectively live in, they experience diverging degrees of superficial success due to their ability, or lack there of, to adapt to the ruthless and competitive nature of a capitalistic society. Throughout history, there have always been disproportionate concentrations of resources among people. Essay To Hit Or Not To Hit Nic Wilson Dr. Hancock ENGWR 300 10:30 8 October 2017 Argument Essay Draft 2 To Hit or Not to Hit In 1973, Major League Baseball accepted Rule 5.11, also known as the Designated Hitter (DH) rule. This rule allows a player, who does not play a defensive position, to hit in place of the pitcher. The rule was created because pitchers, most of whom are notoriously bad hitters, were basically a free out for the opposing team. However, for some ungodly reason, the new DH rule was only established in one of the two leagues in the MLB. As a result, the American League, the league using the DH rule, has consistently produced higher batting averages since 1973 than the National League. When two teams from different leagues play each other, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By expanding the DH rule to the National League, the MLB could create and extend more careers for players just like Martinez. Many people against the designated hitter believe having a DH ruins the integrity of the game. They think that teams should need to strategize by having pitchers bunt runners to the next base or force managers to make the tough decision of when to substitute a hitter for the pitcher. People opposed to the DH rule believe it is wrong to change the rules because this game has been played the same way for more than 100 years. This is both a closed minded and ancient way of thinking. Rules are meant to evolve and change over time to adjust to the times. The days of sacrificing at bats to bunt runners over are over. The sacrifice bunt has been virtually destroyed by new statistics and metrics that show how inefficient it is. The game is in need of more offense and expanding the DH rule to both leagues solves that problem and is a necessary evolvement to the sport. Over the past few years, pitching has been dominant and the officials in the MLB offices have looked for new ways to increase offensive production. For the 2017 season, the MLB has attempted to fix this problem by implementing a new type of baseball with a harder exterior and smaller laces which increase the distance and reduce drag (also increasing distance) of batted balls. As a result, home run totals across the league have increased

Even in her greatest act of rebellion, suicide, Hedda Gabler is unable to find freedom. Her name means strife, struggle, and refuge from battle. Combined with her last name, Gabler, Hedda s name is translated to mean the strife of an individual. From the beginning, she is doomed to a life of isolation and confinement . Although others are originally the cause of Hedda s imprisonment, eventually this entrapment evolves into personal incarceration because others have shaped her entire life around public image. Thus, her only view of the world is one in which social perception is priority. Because of her upbringing, Hedda sees the world through lenses of social duty and image, and therefore associates the two with confinement. In struggling to break free of her captivity, she sees her only out as power over others people own people, and if one is owned the only way to free oneself is to own... With this crippling knowledge, Hedda realizes that freedom is not possible for her and Ibsen reveals to the reader that it is actually her entire definition of freedom that is flawed. Hedda dies in the same way as she lived, in circumstances similar to her childhood: her death is triggered by suffocation wrought by others. Also, since he was captured by the colonists, he obviously wants to say something that pleases them since they are his audience. That makes his evidence unreliable since he could have made that up to please the colonists who had captured him. • 24. Xbox 4 Vs Xbox One The Showdown PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One the Showdown Shigeru once said, The Obvious objective of video games is to entertain people by surprising them with new experiences. Since, the early 1990 s, there has only been two heavy weight gaming consoles: PlayStation and Xbox. Over the years, they both have tremendously evolved into impressive gaming consoles. A gaming console is a device which outputs a video image onto a screen. The term gaming console is used to distinguish them from arcade machines and computers. Currently, the latest models are the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One. Even though, the PS4 and Xbox One are both excellent gaming consoles. They do have a few differences such as price, exclusive games, and exterior/interior design. When buying a gaming consoles, be prepared to spend a lump sum of cash. The PS4 used to cost 400 dollars since being first released back on November 14, 2013, but recently it has dropped down to 350 dollars. The Xbox One price has fluctuated since first being released on November 22, 2013. When it first launched in the United States, the original price was 100 dollars more than that of the PS4 s original price of 400 dollars. In todays society, people or perhaps only me, tend to buy the cheaper options of things. So of course, people brought the PS4 over the Xbox One. Microsoft must have thought their gaming console was far superior than Sony s gaming console so they made it cost more. This action by Microsoft weakened the Xbox One sales. In

But, picturing that degree in the mail and the satisfaction that I finally graduated college is a big factor. The first thing to aid in this goal is to remember than college is not like high school. College should be treated just like a full time job. It requires more work, focus, and motivation. Collegeis an option, it is a passion, and it is life. It has to be planned just right, so that a person can graduate on time. That being said, being a student who hangs around college hoping to get adjusted without having a set plan, will more than likely end up dropping out and wasting tons of money and resources. The financial consequences of dropping out can be dire. College is VERY expensive. Every year a person is in college, it is about twenty five percent more expensive than the previous year. Math is important. Attitude is everything. For every goal, there are multiple goals. The main goal should be to graduate on time. This relatable, reality based film, features a group of jurors who have to make a choice over whether or not someone is guilty or innocent of an accused murder. At first, eleven of the twelve jurors vote guilty. Over time, through heated discussions, the jurors are swayed to the decision of not guilty(Rosen, 2016). Taylor s Ten Days That Shook The World 99 years has passed since the 1917 October Revolution a time of chaos and uncertainty, an event that would shape the world for decades to come. In the midst of the fog of revolution , John Reed s Ten Days That Shook the World navigates through this tumultuous time. Reed was an American journalist and socialist, coming to Russia on an assignment from a socialist magazine, The Masses he was a man deeply involved with the socialist movement, and thus, with the revolution. As the historian A. J. P. Taylor puts it, This was his revolution, not an obscure event in a foreign country. Thus, his first hand account, written in 1919, provides a slice of intensified history , attempting to capture the spirit of the revolution, rather than providing a dry text on it sometimes forsaking historical accuracy, but genuinely attempting to be a fair account, despite its bias. The book starts off towards the end of September 1917, with tensions already high. Though the February Revolution had signified a new change in Russia, the provisional government continued to fight in the Great War. The moderate socialists in power, led by Alexander Kerensky, were opposed by the radical Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky. This is where Reed comes in the picture. Only weeks earlier, General Kornilov had marched on Petrograd. The populace was already discontent, but the Kornilov affair had revitalised support for the Bolsheviks. This culminates in the October Revolution the
  • 31. Historical And Medical Background Of Agnosia Historical and Medical Background of Agnosia Agnosia is a rare neurological disorder that affects one s capability to recognize people or objects based on the affected sense (Coslett, 2007; National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2014). There are three observed types of agnosia: Visual, Auditory, and Tactile (Coslett, 2007; Marotta Behrmann 2002). Visual agnosia is the most common type because the brain devotes the most energy and resources to visual processing than processing of any of the other senses (Coslett, 2007). Since it is the most common, and therefore has the most research available, visual agnosia will be the primary focus of this paper. Sigmund Freud coined the term agnosia which means without knowledge and although the term stands today, it is now known that those with agnosia actually have knowledge of what they are seeing but do not have the ability to connect perception to knowledge. As Marotta and Behrmann observed in two case studies, those with visual agnosia are able to identify and recognize object through sound, touch or a description of function or appearance (Marotta Behrmann, 2002; Coslett, 2007), proving that knowledge of the object is present. Heinrich Lissauer, a German neurologist, divided visual agnosia into two subcategories: apperceptive and associative agnosia. Apperceptive agnosia is when a perceptual representation cannot even be derived from vision, meaning everything can be seen, the visual acuity and physical

Ethical Standards 1.02 Self Determination The second subsection of the NASW Code of Ethics is 1.02 Self Determination. This standard highlights the clients right to be involved in the decision making process regarding his/her treatment and care, to include refusing treatment. This standard also speaks to the clients understanding that these rights may be limited by the social worker ...when, in the social workers professional judgment, clients actions or potential actions pose a serious, foreseeable, and imminent risk to themselves or others (NASW website, 2017). Nazi scientists and physicians conducted torturous and human experiments on prisoners of war held in concentration camps throughout Germany. They behave better, they don t insult each other, they re quiet while doing their tasks, and I m really pleased because of that. They re uncommunicative as though they re in jail. They got better anyways, but I m not satisfied yet, they still need lots more training to do. On the third day of the progress, we did some educational lectures.
