IV. PROCEDURES TEACHERS ACTIVITY LEARNERS ACTIVITY
A. Review Previous Lessons
What did we learn last meeting?
B. Establishing purpose for the Lesson
The teacher will show some advertisements or television lines that
uses the different kinds of sentences (interrogative, exclamatory,
imperative, declarative)
The teacher will present a paragraph without end punctuation:
Do you like to sing My dad and I sing in choir that meets every
Tuesday Last week we sang Christmas carols at Pauline’s house
Pauline’s parents enjoyed our visit It was fun really fun Would
you like to join us next Tuesday
What do you notice children when reading the paragraph?
Is it hard to read? Do you understand what it means?
Why do you think it is hard to read and understand? What is
lacking?
As you said, it is very difficult to read and understand because it
does not have punctuation marks.
Today, we are going to discuss about punctuation marks.
We don’t understand it sir! No pauses, no periods.
There are no punctuation marks.
Yes!/No!
Because it does not have punctuation marks.
C. Presenting examples /instances of the
new lessons Now take a look on the paragraph, once again.
Do you like to sing? My dad and I sing in choir that meets every
Tuesday. Last week, we sang Christmas carols at Pauline’s
house. Pauline’s parents enjoyed our visit! It was fun! Really
fun! Would you like to join us next Tuesday?
Which paragraph do you prefer to read? Why?
To better understand the lesson, I want you to watch this video.
In the video, what is punctuation mark?
What are the punctuation mark that had been discuss in the video?
Very good!
Now read these three sentences
1. Elhyna wants to eat burger.
2. Elhyna wants to eat burger!
3. Elhyna wants to eat burger?
What do you notice children?
The first sentence is just stating the fact that she wants to eat
burger.
The second sentence ends with exclamation mark. Which shows
excitement.
Therefore, Elhyna is excited or happy to eat burger!
The last sentence ends with question mark. Which means there is
no assurance, someone doubts, asks questions or clarifications.
What is the purpose of Punctuation?
Do you think you can understand a sentence, a statement without
this?
What will you do, when someone talk or write something without
using proper punctuations?
A period, exclamation, and a question mark
The sentences were all the same. But the end
punctuationschanges its meaning.
The purpose of punctuation is to make clear the
meaning of a written text.
It is used by the writer to give the reader such
information as when to pause, to stop, or to convey a
particular emotion.
No Sir!
I’ll correct them. Tell them to use proper
punctuations
D. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #1.
Now, these punctuation marks like period, exclamation point, and
question mark, have names when we use them in a sentence.
We call them,
Declarative Sentence
Interrogative Sentence
Imperative Sentence
Exclamatory Sentence
Do youknowwhat Declarative?Interrogative?Imperative?Exclamatory?
A declarative sentence declares or states facts, provides
information.. It ends with a full stop (.)
For example:
The Rafflesia flower is the biggest flower.
An interrogative sentence asks a question. A question mark (?) is
used to close this sentence. Most interrogatives begin with the 5
W's+1H (Why, Who, When, Where, What, and How).
For Example
Who is not listening?
An imperative sentence gives an order, request or advice.
It is used to ask people to do things or to give suggestions.
It is closed with a full stop (.)
For Example
Give me that hat.
An exclamatory sentence shows strong feeling. It helps to express
love, anger, surprise happiness and other emotions. It ends with an
exclamation mark (!)
For example
(Presenting a song about the four kinds of sentences)
No sir! / Yes Sir!
(learners will be given also the chance to give their
own examples)
E. Discussing new concepts & practicing
new skills #2
For additional information.
There are two classification of punctuation:
Terminal or end marks- punctuations used at the end of the
sentence.
It is snowingheavily!
Internal marks- used in the middle or within the sentence
For example
Yeah! I will join the contest.
Put punctuation marks where they are needed in the sentence.
1. Christian, what is the next T.V. Program after “Ang
Probinsiyano
2. Franc says Good morning to his teacher
3. I love you Mom exclaimed by Elhyne
4. Yeah I won the grand draw
5. Princess, study well
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to
Formative
Assessment 3)
(Learners will play a game) the teacher will instruct the learners
before playing the game.
Okay, listen to the instructions.
I have here four lanes of the four kinds of sentences.
I will read some phrases or sentences and I want you to Identify
what kind of sentences are these. And go to the lanes that you think
it is the best answer.
Remaining person/s will win the game.
Yes sir!
Ok sir!
(after winning that person/s will define or describe the kinds of
sentence)
Ok class, what are the four kinds of sentences?

Is it hard to read? Do you understand what it means? Why do you think it is hard to read and understand? What is lacking? As you said, it is very difficult to read and understand because it does not have punctuation marks. Today, we are going to discuss about punctuation marks. We don’t understand it sir! No pauses, no periods. There are no punctuation marks. Yes!/No! Because it does not have punctuation marks. C. Presenting examples /instances of the new lessons Now take a look on the paragraph, once again. Do you like to sing? My dad and I sing in choir that meets every Tuesday. The last sentence ends with question mark. Which means there is no assurance, someone doubts, asks questions or clarifications. What is the purpose of Punctuation? Do you think you can understand a sentence, a statement without this? What will you do, when someone talk or write something without using proper punctuations? A period, exclamation, and a question mark The sentences were all the same. But the end punctuationschanges its meaning. The purpose of punctuation is to make clear the meaning of a written text.
