I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 85% of the students should be able to:
A. Apply the four types of English sentences.
B. Appraise the roles of a teacher.
C. Perform a short mime about the sacrifices of a teacher to his/her students.

A. Preliminaries

Before you take your seats, kindly check if there are pieces
of paper or plastic under your chairs, pick it up and arrange
your respective chairs properly.

intention of the teachers why they scolded and punished us.

What you we’re going to do for this day is the applying of
what we have learned last meeting and that is the four types
of English sentences.
Okay class, I’m going to give you a copy of a short story that
entitled “The Difference a Teacher Can Make” by Jaye
Lewis. Listen carefully to the following instructions:
1. Read the short story individually and silently.
2. Unlock the difficult words and give one synonym of
each word.
3. Construct a sentence using the difficult words with
the four types of English sentences for better
understanding.
4. Read the short story again by substituting the
difficult words with simple synonyms.

Sir! There are many sacrifices that our teachers
gave to us like they are so patience to teach us
even we are so importunate in all the time.
Sir! Our teachers are so generous, because they

the difficult words)
And now, I’m going to pick a name and anyone who I picked
his/her name may give an unlocked difficult word and he/she
construct this word using any of the four types of English
sentences.
First to unlock a difficult word is, Mr. ____.
Second to unlock is, Ms. _____.
Third to unlock is, Ms. _____.
Fourth to unlock is, Mr. _____.
Fifth to unlock is, Mr._____.
Sixth to unlock is, Ms._____.
Seventh to unlock is, Mr. _____.
Sober – having or showing a very serious
attitude or quality.
Example: His eyes were twinkling, but he
maintained a sober expression.
Synonym: Serious
Oddly – in a strange or unusual way. Used to
say that something is strange, odd or surprising.
Example: Oddly enough, he wasn’t as upset by
it as he thought he should be.
Synonym: Strangely
Pinning – to prevent or stop someone or
something from moving.
Example: After the earthquake there were
several people pinned in the wreckage.
Synonym: Prevent
Stubborn – refusing to change your ideas or to
stop doing something.
Example: he concentrated on encouraging the
stubborn horse to head back the way they came.
Synonym: Disobedient
Fazed – to cause someone to fell afraid or
uncertain.
Example: the collapse of part of the scenery
didn’t faze the actors one bit, and they just
carried on.
Synonym: Embarrass
Stench – a very bad smell
Example: We finally discovered the dead rat
that was causing the stench in the basement.
Synonym: Stink
Grim – causing feeling of sadness or worry.
And the last to unlock difficult word is, Ms.____.
What an excellent cooperation class.
For the last instruction you may read the short story again
but this time you’re going to replace the unlocked difficult
words with its synonyms.

Okay, you may now begin to read and remember silently
reading.

after you replace the difficult words with its synonyms?

reminder of the dangers of drinking and
driving.

Yearn – to feel a strong desire or wish for
something or to do something.
Example: Robert yearns to earn enough money
from his job as a doctor’s assistant for him to
become independent.
Synonym: Wish

after I replace the difficult words with its

Because the synonyms are more simple to
understand rather than the difficult words.
But remember class these words are new for you and because
of that you must make more practice on how to use these
words in a sentence so that you may not forget it anytime
you need these words. Is that understood?
Okay, is there any question regarding the short story you
read?

E. Generalization
Based on what you have read on the short story you may
bring out a ½ sheet of paper and answers the following
questions. Before that we some an activity regarding the
sacrifices of your teachers to you my dear students.
These are the questions:
1. What is the selection about?
2. How would you describe Steve? Miss White?
3. How did Miss White change Steve’s life?
Class you start to answer. Remember class answer the
questions in 2 to 3 sentences only. I don’t like a novel
answer. Understood?
Okay class! Listen to me on how to pass your papers.
1. Pass your papers forward.
2. The papers of the students at the back must be at the
bottom and the papers of the students at the front
must be at the top.
3. When all papers are already at the front, the row
leaders must pass the papers to the right.
4. Lastly, the row leader of the right side must pass to
me the collected papers.
Okay class! Pass you papers.
Now, I’m going to call three names to answer the questions.
First is Ms. _____. Please stand and answer the question
number 1. The question is: What is the selection about?

IV. Evaluation
Since we’re done now with our lesson about the four types
of English sentences and we’re already done to read the short
Sir! The selection is about the encouragement
of a teacher to teach a student. It inspires
people who are failed not to be desperate. It
shows us that we can be happy only if we give
ourselves chance to feel happiness. It’s merely
a matter of choice, whether we fill our life with
courage, desire and dream or dump our time
with desperation. It also reminds us not to
under estimate person.

Sir! I described Steve as a lucky student
because there is a person who send God to him
to save him from losing his life and gave him a
motivation to believe to his own talent and that
person is Miss White who is kind, patient and
bad in giving up, that she tried to encourage
Steve to be better.

Sir! Miss White change Steve’s life by giving
him an encouragement to believe to his self.
Miss white didn’t giving up to motivate Steve,
she always cared for him until such Steve
become a better person.

group you into four groups and we’re going to make mime.
May I ask if anyone how can define what is a mime?

sacrifices of our teachers in teaching the students. Listen
carefully to the instructions of the play:
1. Each of the group will perform a mime within 3-5
minutes.
2. When a group is performing the audience must be
silent and attentive.
3. Criteria for scoring are the following:

define mime using the dictionary application)

Reference/s: Writing Academic English, Second Edition, by Alice Oshima and Ann Hogue. Materials: LCD Projector, Laptop, Speaker, Printed Handout. III. Procedure Teacher’s Activity A. Preliminaries Good Morning Class… Let us pray first. May I ask the classroom president to lead the opening prayer? Thank you Mr./Ms. President. Before you take your seats, kindly check if there are pieces of paper or plastic under your chairs, pick it up and arrange your respective chairs properly. (Checking of attendance) Now, let us check the attendance, row leaders, do we have absentees today? Row 1. Row 2. Student’s Activity Good Morning Sir! Everybody stand up and let us pray. In the name of God the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful… (Student’s Prayer) (Students pick up the pieces of paper or plastic and they arrange their chairs) I’m glad to report that everybody is present in our row.
  • 2. Row 3. Row 4. It’s nice to hear that 98% are present today. May I ask the secretary if the absentees have an excuse letter? Thank you Mr./Ms. Secretary. B. Review Last meeting, we discussed about the four types of English sentences. Is there anyone who can give the first type? Yes! Ms. _____ Very good! Ms. _____. Can you give us an example of Simple Sentences? Excellent! Ms.____. Class give Ms.____ a ten loud clamps. Okay, is there anyone who can give the three types of English sentences left? Yes! Mr. _____. Wow! Mr._____. I think someday you become an English instructor. Is that correct class? C. Motivation Class! Did you love your teachers? Ohh! That so very lovely. I’m glad to report that everybody is present in our row. I’m sad to report that there are two absentees in our row. I’m glad to report that everybody is present in our row. (The secretary give the excuse letters) (The secretary sat) Sir! One of the four types of English sentences is Simple Sentence. My brother and I went [to the mall last night. (The student give a ten loud clamps) Sir! The three types of English sentences left are the Compound Sentence, Complex Sentence and Compound-Complex Sentence. Yes, Sir! He deserved it! Fabulous! Yes, Sir! Yes, Sir! We love them us our second parents.
  • 3. What are the sacrifices do you think your teachers gave to you? Thank you very much class for your kindness to your teachers. Okay class, I’m going to show you a short film about the real intention of the teachers why they scolded and punished us. The short film entitled “Thank you, Teacher” by A Butterworks. You can find this in the Youtube. (The short film begins) Class! Did you understand the short film? D. Lesson Proper What you we’re going to do for this day is the applying of what we have learned last meeting and that is the four types of English sentences. Okay class, I’m going to give you a copy of a short story that entitled “The Difference a Teacher Can Make” by Jaye Lewis. Listen carefully to the following instructions: 1. Read the short story individually and silently. 2. Unlock the difficult words and give one synonym of each word. 3. Construct a sentence using the difficult words with the four types of English sentences for better understanding. 4. Read the short story again by substituting the difficult words with simple synonyms. Did you understand the instructions class? Yes! Ms. _____. Can you repeat the instructions given? . Sir! There are many sacrifices that our teachers gave to us like they are so patience to teach us even we are so importunate in all the time. Sir! Our teachers are so generous, because they gave their lot of time to teach us knowledge and values. (Students begin to watch and listen) Yes, Sir! Yes, Sir! Sir! The instructions are the following:
  • 4. Okay class! You may now begin to read. Class! Did you finish to read the short story? Anyone who can give me the difficult words in the short story? Yes! Mr. _____. Excellent! Mr. ______. Thank you, you may sit. Are there any difficult words in the short story? Yes! Ms. ______ Excellent! Ms._____. Thank you, you may sit. Now, bring out your cellphone or tablet or dictionary and unlock the difficult words. 1. Read the short story individually and silently. 2. Unlock the difficult words and give one synonym of each word. 3. Construct a sentence using the difficult words with the four types of English sentences for better understanding. 4. Read the short story again by substituting the difficult words with simple synonyms. (The students are beginning to read the short story) Yes, Sir! Sir! The difficult words that I found in the short story are: 1. Sober 2. Oddly 3. Pinning 4. Stubborn Sir! I found also the difficult words in the story and that are: 1. Fazed 2. Stench 3. Grim 4. Yearn (The students bringing out their cellphone or tablet or dictionary and they begin to unlock the difficult words)
  • 5. And now, I’m going to pick a name and anyone who I picked his/her name may give an unlocked difficult word and he/she construct this word using any of the four types of English sentences. First to unlock a difficult word is, Mr. ____. Second to unlock is, Ms. _____. Third to unlock is, Ms. _____. Fourth to unlock is, Mr. _____. Fifth to unlock is, Mr._____. Sixth to unlock is, Ms._____. Seventh to unlock is, Mr. _____. Sober – having or showing a very serious attitude or quality. Example: His eyes were twinkling, but he maintained a sober expression. Synonym: Serious Oddly – in a strange or unusual way. Used to say that something is strange, odd or surprising. Example: Oddly enough, he wasn’t as upset by it as he thought he should be. Synonym: Strangely Pinning – to prevent or stop someone or something from moving. Example: After the earthquake there were several people pinned in the wreckage. Synonym: Prevent Stubborn – refusing to change your ideas or to stop doing something. Example: he concentrated on encouraging the stubborn horse to head back the way they came. Synonym: Disobedient Fazed – to cause someone to fell afraid or uncertain. Example: the collapse of part of the scenery didn’t faze the actors one bit, and they just carried on. Synonym: Embarrass Stench – a very bad smell Example: We finally discovered the dead rat that was causing the stench in the basement. Synonym: Stink Grim – causing feeling of sadness or worry.
  • 6. And the last to unlock difficult word is, Ms.____. What an excellent cooperation class. For the last instruction you may read the short story again but this time you’re going to replace the unlocked difficult words with its synonyms. Do you understand class? Okay, you may now begin to read and remember silently reading. Class! Are you finish to read the short story? Very good class! May I ask if the short story become more understandable after you replace the difficult words with its synonyms? Yes, Ms. ____. Did you understand the short story? Why do you say so? Example: the accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving. Synonym: Depress Yearn – to feel a strong desire or wish for something or to do something. Example: Robert yearns to earn enough money from his job as a doctor’s assistant for him to become independent. Synonym: Wish Very understandable Sir! Yes, Sir! (The students begin to read the short story again and their going to replace the difficult words with its synonyms) Yes, Sir! We’re already finish to read the short story. Yes, Sir! Yes, Sir! I already understand the short story after I replace the difficult words with its synonyms. Because the synonyms are more simple to understand rather than the difficult words.
  • 7. But remember class these words are new for you and because of that you must make more practice on how to use these words in a sentence so that you may not forget it anytime you need these words. Is that understood? Okay, is there any question regarding the short story you read? Is the story clear? E. Generalization Based on what you have read on the short story you may bring out a ½ sheet of paper and answers the following questions. Before that we some an activity regarding the sacrifices of your teachers to you my dear students. These are the questions: 1. What is the selection about? 2. How would you describe Steve? Miss White? 3. How did Miss White change Steve’s life? Class you start to answer. Remember class answer the questions in 2 to 3 sentences only. I don’t like a novel answer. Understood? Okay class! Listen to me on how to pass your papers. 1. Pass your papers forward. 2. The papers of the students at the back must be at the bottom and the papers of the students at the front must be at the top. 3. When all papers are already at the front, the row leaders must pass the papers to the right. 4. Lastly, the row leader of the right side must pass to me the collected papers. Okay class! Pass you papers. Now, I’m going to call three names to answer the questions. First is Ms. _____. Please stand and answer the question number 1. The question is: What is the selection about? Yes, Sir! Thank you for your advice Sir! None Sir! Yes, Sir! Very clear. Slightly yes sir! (The students preparing ½ sheet of paper) Yes, Sir! (The students start to answer the questions) (The students passing their papers according to the instructions of the teacher) (The student stand and answer the question)
  • 8. Wow! Ms. ______. You see class there are so many lessons we can get just from one short story. Second to answer is Ms. ______. Please stand and answers question number 2. The question is: How did you described Steve? Miss White? Excellent Ms. _____! Lastly, Mr. _____. Please stand and answer the last question and that is: How did Miss White change Steve’s life? Very brilliant students! Any question? If there are no questions, may I ask you my dear students, are you ready to the best part of our class? IV. Evaluation Since we’re done now with our lesson about the four types of English sentences and we’re already done to read the short Sir! The selection is about the encouragement of a teacher to teach a student. It inspires people who are failed not to be desperate. It shows us that we can be happy only if we give ourselves chance to feel happiness. It’s merely a matter of choice, whether we fill our life with courage, desire and dream or dump our time with desperation. It also reminds us not to under estimate person. (The student stand and answer the question) Sir! I described Steve as a lucky student because there is a person who send God to him to save him from losing his life and gave him a motivation to believe to his own talent and that person is Miss White who is kind, patient and bad in giving up, that she tried to encourage Steve to be better. (The student stand and answer the question) Sir! Miss White change Steve’s life by giving him an encouragement to believe to his self. Miss white didn’t giving up to motivate Steve, she always cared for him until such Steve become a better person. None Sir! Yes, Sir! We are always ready sir! I’m so excited!
