DEVELOPMENT OF THERMOELECTRIC
DEVICES CHARGES

ABSTRACT
 Generating an electricity by using any kind of wasted heat as a
supply.
 The concept that applied in this project is Seebeck effect that
directly converts heat energy to electricity to charge a device.
 This proposal describes a device charger, which is powered by
thermoelectric generator (TEG) power modules.
 In processing the output, the application of dc-dc booster and
voltage regulator is applied. The output product is a 5V,100mA
at the USB socket.
OBJECTIVE
 To develop a thermoelectric generator device charger (5V, 100mA)
 To develop for consumer bring to anywhere where they can get heat
source
 To enhance renewable energy technologies and to save the environment
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 How do we develop energy supply when lose power on a smartphone
during hiking & camping?
 What method can be charging a smartphone at anytime?
PREVIOUS WORK
1. NASA spacecraft project:
• Use for many years by NASA to power spacecraft and the oil and gas industry to
power remote monitoring stations around the globe.
2. Consumer applications:
• Seiko Thermic, a wristwatch powered by body heat using a thermoelectric
generator
3. Previous FYP BMI student:
• Development of Portable Power Supply using Hot Water which is large scale
output (240v 13A 300W) at the socket plug.
• This project is need to charge the 12V battery and convert to AC source by the
inverter
METHODOLOGY
 Using a principle known as the Seebeck effect.
 Create electrical source by movement of electron in
semiconductor when the heat applied.
 Step up DC-DC converter to give greater output than the
input
 Voltage regulator to increase efficiency and give constant
output

CONCLUSION
 Referring to the proposed research and expectation result,
this project will able provide an alternative approach of
charging devices.
 Thermoelectric generators are an intriguing way to
generate renewable energy directly from waste heat and it
help reduce natural source consumption.
 If everything went as expected, the objectives will be
achieved.

Development of thermoelectric devices charges

  • 1. DEVELOPMENT OF THERMOELECTRIC DEVICES CHARGES MOHAMAD SHAFIQ BIN HAIRUDIN 51210111372 NOR AZMAN BIN OTHMAN (MANO)
  • 2. ABSTRACT  Generating an electricity by using any kind of wasted heat as a supply.  The concept that applied in this project is Seebeck effect that directly converts heat energy to electricity to charge a device.  This proposal describes a device charger, which is powered by thermoelectric generator (TEG) power modules.  In processing the output, the application of dc-dc booster and voltage regulator is applied. The output product is a 5V,100mA at the USB socket.
  • 3. OBJECTIVE  To develop a thermoelectric generator device charger (5V, 100mA)  To develop for consumer bring to anywhere where they can get heat source  To enhance renewable energy technologies and to save the environment PROBLEM STATEMENT  How do we develop energy supply when lose power on a smartphone during hiking & camping?  What method can be charging a smartphone at anytime?
  • 4. PREVIOUS WORK 1. NASA spacecraft project: • Use for many years by NASA to power spacecraft and the oil and gas industry to power remote monitoring stations around the globe. 2. Consumer applications: • Seiko Thermic, a wristwatch powered by body heat using a thermoelectric generator 3. Previous FYP BMI student: • Development of Portable Power Supply using Hot Water which is large scale output (240v 13A 300W) at the socket plug. • This project is need to charge the 12V battery and convert to AC source by the inverter
  • 5. METHODOLOGY  Using a principle known as the Seebeck effect.  Create electrical source by movement of electron in semiconductor when the heat applied.  Step up DC-DC converter to give greater output than the input  Voltage regulator to increase efficiency and give constant output

F L O W C H A R T START APPLIED HEAT SOURCE AT HOT SIDE THERMOELECTRIC THERMOELECTRIC CAPTURE THE HEAT & COVERT DIRECTLY INTO ELECTRICITY DC-DC BOOSTER WILL STEP UP THE VOLTAGE INTO 5V VOLTAGE REGULATOR STABLIZE OUTPUT AT USB PORT (5V) USB PORT GIVES ELECTRICITY TO ELECTRICAL LOAD END TEMPERATURE COLD SIDE = HOT SIDE APPLIED HEAT SINK WITH FAN AT COLD SIDE THERMOELECTRIC YES NO

CONCLUSION  Referring to the proposed research and expectation result, this project will able provide an alternative approach of charging devices.  Thermoelectric generators are an intriguing way to generate renewable energy directly from waste heat and it help reduce natural source consumption.  If everything went as expected, the objectives will be achieved.
